This is Drew Franklin filling in for Matt on a new edition of Kentucky Sports Radio. It is Wednesday, December 31st, New Year's Eve, the final day of 2025. And I am here with my good friend Ryan Lemon. We just keep showing up for work. But today's a little different.

Ryan's letting me drive the show. Ryan's been very busy lately. He's actually filled in for me a couple times. I was supposed to do two post-game shows and end up having to sub-out mid-game and call you in. Then this week it is just the two of us as the rest of the crew is on vacation. So I thought, you know, you hosted Monday and Tuesday. I'll take a little bit off your plate. I know you're excited to get into the new year.

show of 2025 because you're ready to get it in the rearview mirror and move past it and get into 2026. Been ups and downs for a lot of us this past year. So 2025, sayonaro, baby. Get out of here. Get out of here, 2025. More downs than ups, but still a decent year overall. But I look forward to a few bourbons tonight around midnight to close the door on that.

He's been on the show every once in a while, but really not kind of in a guest role. Remember the one time we were doing the show downtown, he just happened to walk by.

There's J.P. Blevins, why'd you come join us for a minute? So J.P. will be here. He was really involved with Coach Cal those last couple years. with the NIL and trying to get involved in that end of it. So he's got a different perspective on a lot of this. He does. Very successful post-basketball. You know, yesterday you went with the Twin Tower lineup.

Had two seven-footers. Joby Hall would have loved that show you did yesterday. Now we're bringing in a guard to help our roster with some reminiscing on old Wildcat memories. I think people like Willie in the first hour and wound and second hour. Two completely different personalities, but yet both very likable guys. People, you know, some people said after the show, I named my cat. Willie. I laid my cat, Collie, because of Willie Colley's time. Both those guys were beloved by our fan base. And speaking of Willie, I see you're wearing that nice hat he gave us, looking good on you. Is that one that I can just expect to see you wearing all the time?

It's the one I'm going to leave in my car, so, you know, and I'm going to wear it. I won't wear it, but a bad hair day, I'm bringing it out. I also got my manny t-shirt on you gave me yesterday. Yeah, look you. Myritty t-shirt. You got two free things yesterday, and you're already wearing both of them. Not a surprise. This pullover came from Dane Key, so it's... What about the pants? Do I even want to know? Gift from Yoga Girl. Okay, there we go. Shout out yoga girl. Also, shout out.

We have a good crowd here today for Wings Day, KS Bar and Grill. I went around the room asking them where they're all from, thinking we'd have a lot of variety. We have two tables from Marion County. Yes. I think they rode together. Shout out Ham Days in Lebanon, one of our favorite stops over here. I am the hog-calling champion of Ham Days right now. I have the trophy to prove it.

No spoilers, but that could pop up on our memories of 2025 later in the show. Then I went around the rest of the room and everyone else is just local, including just right down the street. So we have a lot of Lexington and Marion County in the house today. Yeah, their first two tables were Marion County. Next two tables were like, oh, we're by Palomar. Like all Palomar is coming to show today. But, you know, this is a good day. In the end of the year, the year starting next year, we want to start fresh,

because next year could be a whole new ball of wax with the NIL. Oh, wax. Yeah. I think it's an old phrase. I like that. With the NIL coming around, all these changes, basketball, football, new coach. So, I mean, the 2026 has a lot to look forward to, I think. Yes, in 2025 was a big year of change.

I gave you homework assignments. I did. I got my homework done. We did lots of show prep. I sent you. I wanted your top five football memories. Yes. Top five basketball.

Yes. Top five KSR. Yes. And I forgot to include this, so maybe we'll do it on the fly, but other UK things, you know, volleyball being a big win. The non-football basketball. Sorry, I'm dropping that on you now. We'll do it the second hour.

Okay. But remember that, if you will. I got my homework ready. I did my assignment. Oh, J.P. Blevins, confirmed. Look at that. Breaking news. Wading on J.P. Blevins will join us at 11?

At 11 o'clock. Okay, we'll talk a little bit about his time with Tubby. He had some big moments. His time is a high school legend around here, Metcalfe County. Committed to Rick Patino when he was like a sophomore, and then Patino leaves. Tubby brought him, kept you in that class.

That's a heck of a class. See, if I can remember. It was Tashon Prince, Desmond, Allison, J.P. Blevins, Todd Tackett. Boom, you nailed it. Those five. I know that because, Ron. Ryan Lemon at 5 a.m. this morning, I was doing show prep.

5 a.m. I woke up, and you know sometimes you wake up and you just know, this is one of the, I'm just up. It was still dark. I rolled over. My phone said 4.59. I thought, let's just go and get a head start on the day. And I did a lot of J.P. Blevins research. You did? That's why I'm glad he's here. Good. So before the sun was up, I'm online reading about J.P. Blevance. That's why I can confirm that was the recruiting class. And I have some stories from J.P.'s past that might even blow his mind. Very cool.

So I'm glad he followed through. Otherwise, that hour and a half of my coffee would have been wasted. Totally wasted. But I do want to talk a lot about New Year's Eve to get a start. It is New Year's Eve. You were supposed to bring the party for the hats. Oh! No?

Next time, we'll get them next year. This is your year reminder for next year to bring those. But I just want to learn about how Ryan Lemon celebrates your favorite traditions. First and foremost, I think our audience would like to know, and we all have a pretty good guess. Will you even be awake at midnight tonight? Oh, I'll be awake. May not make it much past midnight. but we're going to Rodney's.

I swear I was going to guess. Rodney's for a free meal. Rodney's for New Year's Eve and then going to Thanksgiving for Friends House, play some games, maybe sing a little karaoke, maybe get my New Year's Eve kiss and then go to bed. So you're the partying type. For about 10 straight years, the New Year's Eve party was at my house. I hosted it. So we were up until three, four, kicking people out at five in the morning a lot of time.

So let's just go ahead and let's just go to Ron's Lemon's house party. You don't do them anymore because... We're old. Don't old. Okay, not too old to go out and party. No, we don't get your free run. I don't want to host it. Don't want to be people staying at my house until three or four in the morning.

Let's say it's 15 years ago. Okay. Is that far enough back? Yes. When was it maybe the wildest? I want to know the peak of the New Jersey parties. 15 years ago? I walk me through.

I just walked into your house. It's about 8 o'clock. I brought my own bottle of cheap bourbon and wine. What am I looking at? There was a... I guess I should not use the names, protect the innocent. I understand. And times have changed.

We've all different friends, different relationships. I get it. You have to use names. So, you know, there's a good friend of mine that I worked with at Channel 18. Her name would say we'll call her Harry Joe, Harry Mo. Okay. She'll love that. Who could that possibly be?

Brought the little test tube bottles of Alabama Slamma. Okay. And those ended up vomited all over my floor, all over my bathroom, in my kitchen sink. It was, ended up being an all. awful disgusting evening after the Alabama slamas were concerned. Were multiple people participating in this vomiting? Yes. And then they ended up spending the night.

What were they spiked? Did she poison them? I don't know what they were in. I stayed away. I don't even remember if I even had one. But I know a lot of people tasted them as they came back out later on that evening. Were you on cleanup duty since I was? Yes, I was on cleanup duty in my plants outside.

Oh my goodness. This is not where I expected this to go. But then again, I kind of did. It was everywhere. So what's the food spread at a Ryan Lemon-N-N-N-Yer Z party? Do people potlock bring our own or do you provide the meal? I think it's just a lot of alcohol, no food whatsoever. It's just, you know, you're coming at 9, 10, 11 o'clock.

You know, you've already eaten. You're coming in for the after-party. So I don't think we ever had any food ever at all. So you're cleaning up food all over your house that they had eaten before, and then they brought it and bombed up. Yeah. The Red Alabama Slim has stained one of my carpets upstairs where it got people threw up. It was bad.

I can see why you cancel these. Now you go to other houses and do this. Did you participate in any of the traditions? Anything in particular that you had to have out of certain food or drink? No. Maybe certain music. No. You just want everybody to come black out and throw up and go out.

No, yeah. We celebrate, you know, Eastern time, Central Time, Mountain Time, Pacific Time. Then by that time, it's usually everybody's ready to go home and get out of here. Pacific time also. Yeah. I got one more New Year's East story. Please tell all of them. This was the millennium.

Oh, this was a big one. So from 1999 to 2000, remember, we all thought the world was going to shut down. We thought the banks were going to falter. We had to go take money out of the ATM the day before because we all thought the country was going to shut down at midnight on that January 1st, 2000. So I did the sports that night at Channel 18, got off the set, and the party was not at my house yet. It was at somebody else at my friend's house in Palomar, of all places. Shout out Palomar. I think three of our tables here from Palomar this morning.

from channel 18 to palomar on new circle road going probably and i'm not kidding you a hundred and twenty miles an hour wait hold on you don't have to confess this well i got you're a role model for our for the public that we have we have children here they're youth listening i know it was 120 because the police officer told me it was 120 oh boy all right he said what are you doing i'm like i'm trying to get to my house for the millennium to celebrate new years with my family and everybody's waiting up on me my boys are waiting up on me he actually let me go and i've seen that guy since then and I thanked him profusely. He could have gotten me, I could have been thrown in jail, I guess.

Reckless driving, speeding. But yeah, I got pulled over on New Circle Road going about 120. Even after he pulled me over, I still made it by midnight on the millennium. You know what I was up this morning, thinking about what we could talk about. And I thought, I bet Ryan's got some good New Year's stories. I didn't expect utter chaos. It's just people vomiting all in your home. Yeah.

You tripling the speed limit on New Circle Road. Is it just the purge? What should we expect tonight? Well, you know, now I'm almost sick. 60 years old. Tonight is dinner, New Year's, kiss, go to bed, go to sleep. I know your feeling of trying to get there to watch the ball drop. As I'm showing here today with you, we have a hard work ethic.

We work on holidays. Oh, absolutely. And I used to work at Kroger. Yes. The courtesy clerk. Actually, I was all the jobs. I was even assistant dairy manager. Which Kroger?

Put me at the car wash, produce. Which Kroger? Madisonville. Oh, in Madisonville. Okay. Yeah, we only had one. Got you. It had a number.

Island Ford Road. Whatever everyone would call it. Third shift stock. I did third. You scan. If you came to that U-Scan, you went through me. All, you had to prove. But two years in a row working New Year's Eve, I think we closed maybe 11, had to finish

my duties, get my carts in, you know, straighten the green beans. You get the storefront looking good. And maybe not 120 on New Circle, but breaking some speed limits to get there, walking in right at 1159 as everyone has already been partaking quite a bit. Yeah, I made it. And, you know, stayed a little out of trouble. Not many as wild as you. I've been to Vegas, Nashville, a couple big cities for New Year's Eve.

But nothing like what I think you've been putting on. On all of our big trips, we've never been on the road on New Year's Eve, I guess. Actually, we do, which is part of our next segment. I have more New Year's Eve memories with KSR. Okay, good. I can't believe you don't remember some of them, but then again, I understand why you don't remember them with the way you've been behaving on the holiday. I mean, there are stories that probably can't be told that happened at my house on those New Year's Eve party. Oh, I got another good one.

Okay. I just thought of this one. Please. Again, I will change the name to protect the end. Let's just call him Rante and Don, two of my buddies. Do we need the earmuff our Marion County friends here? It was like four degrees outside, and we decided to go out, take our clothes off, be in our boxer shorts, sit on the tailgate of a truck, and sing the, what's that song?

Dan Cummings deal, that song. Let me tell you one more. Yeah, let me tell you how I feel. That's it. Yeah. Yeah, it was a Dan Cummins vehicle, so we thought it would be a good idea to do that and send it to them the next day. And how'd that go? I don't think it went over very well.

Well. Was that a tequila, bourbon, or were the Alabama slammers out? And maybe the time I was making margaritas with bourbon. Okay. Well, for those stories and more just like those, I think we have a lot more to unpack there. Let's pull back more layers of that onion with Ryan's New Year's Eve stories. Again, we've got friends from Marion County, Lexington, and my good buddy, Ryan here, as the rest of the crew takes vacation. As we've mentioned earlier in this week, they just left us all with. Four of them at one time. We got mad at a mystery location.

Yes. I did a Zoom with him for an hour and a half. Didn't know where he was. He wouldn't tell us. So he's up to something. He was on ESPN radio yesterday here. Yeah, he's still doing those obligations. Just took a break from here.

Shannon's still in Panama City. Yes. I ran into Mario yesterday, so he hasn't gone far. I stayed here to work after the show. I was just sitting here typing, and Mario came in and taking pictures for social media. I thought, aren't you on vacation? Yeah, he's on vacation this week. He said, well, I need a picture of a buffalo wrap.

And I'm like, surely you have a photo somewhere of a Buffalo Rap that you could have just done this from home. But nope, still working hard on his vacation. Although he told me he's going to Atlanta. Big trip to Atlanta. Okay. I don't know if that's a top secret. Sorry Mario, but maybe a boy's trip. I don't know.

I hope so. He's got a vacation. He might as well use it. So he is going to step away even though I call him working. And Billy, I think he's off. What's he doing? I think they were spending some time in Oldham County with his family. Family time here, Marissa.

I've also seen Billy doing a little cover zero. and then this morning on the way over here, I turned on the pre-show, like I always do, part of my morning routine. And Billy was mid-sentence talking about Severe Wheeler looking good at Big Blue Madness. And I know they're both off, but why were they playing a show that was talking about Severe Wheeler? Well, that was their first ever show. You may have missed the beginning of it. Okay, I did miss the very beginning.

It really threw me for a loop. Yeah, their first ever KSR pre-show. They replayed it this morning. That was an interesting pick. Now it makes more sense since their first one, because after they were talking about Wheeler looking good, they debated if I guess it was Tai Tai Washington or C.J. Frederick would be the better three-point shooter. C.J. Frederick.

And how Caliparry's State of the Union in madness was getting a little stale, and he used the teleprompters. Oh, I do remember that. That's what I was listening to on the way in. Now it makes more sense that it was their first show. I just thought they drew one out of the hat because none of that was topical. Earlier in the show, they were talking about Will Levis. They had just played Georgia and football, and Will Levis had a good game against Georgia. That's one of the games that kind of got him drafted.

Pro Scouts thought he did so well against the Georgia defense. They were talking about that game. Some of these best-ofs are a bad look. I get nervous when we do them. I wish we'd just play elevator music. The Washington, D.C., of us at the White House, which honestly is my favorite show that we've done because of how uncomfortable that was,

with you doing the McConnell personation in the press room. I don't think there's been anything in my life that's made me that uncomfortable. It was a full room of people we recognized from television. The president was about to come out, and do some state of something on the fly. It was being scheduled that morning for an hour later. And we did live KSR from that tiny room, and you ended the show, not in your inside voice or your library voice,

doing the McConnell so loud in front of these CNN, Fox, all these personalities. I remember what it was over? I'm kind of looking around, and they're all kind of side-eyeing me and looking at me a little bit. You know, like, what is this clown over here trying to do a little bit? But then I saw a couple of them kind of laugh. So I figured, okay, it must be okay. The impersonation must at least made a couple people laugh. Well, the reason I brought that up for a best-of is because we use it often because it's so funny.

But in that best-of, you ask me, you say they're thinking about Lynn Bowden playing quarterback. And I just go off about how it is the stupidest idea of all time. It will never work. Why would we possibly put a wide receiver at quarterback? I think I call the coaching staff idiots. And we play that about once a year, and we all know how that actually ended once Lynn Bowden was quarterback. So these best-up shows sometimes have some pretty bad takes locked up in them. Yeah, I've heard one that we were all making our preseason predictions on stuff.

And, like, we had Kentucky football at 9 and 2 and 8 and 3. Was that last year? Last year. Yeah, I think Matt at Shady Ray's has a clip out there that he'd like to delete if that turned out. Rick, I hear we already have some callers that want to celebrate the new year with us. Let's go to the phone lines. Okay, got Mike up first. Mike, thanks for calling in.

What's up? That's right. Uh, uh, you was talking about Alabama slammers. I've heard of them. My granddaughter went to the University of Alabama, so, uh, y'all do realize any liquor when you drink it, when it goes down, it don't taste near as good coming back up. No, doesn't, you know.

Uh, what happened in 2025? That was good. Rich Brooks is gone. I mean, I hate to see anybody lose your job. Mark Stoose. Yeah. Kentucky or Stoop, yeah, Kentucky needs to win some football games. That's just all it is to it.

That's right. We appreciate the call. Thanks for calling in. Yeah, Rich Brooks has been gone about 16 years. I think he met Mark Stoops there. He was happy about that ending in 2025. That was one of the big changes. And these Alabama slammers coming up again, we heard from our friends here,

That's when Andy Cohen and Don Lemon lose their mind intoxicated on the air. No, they will be intoxicated at about 7 p.m. That's true. That goes as usual. But tonight, in New York, we have a double. ball drop. What? Did you know there's a double ball drop? No, why? They are dropping it, raising it, and dropping it

again. Why? We have a new ball. We'll talk about that in a minute. Brand new ball. It's the ninth one since 1907. Oh, wow. Colorful, different shapes. Yeah. All kinds of stuff to learn about that. But at 1204, we're celebrating America being 250. The ball is supposed to

do something crazy. I don't really know there. Some technology. It's going to be a surprise while they drop red, white, and blue confetti. So we're going to Celebrate 2026. Get your kisses in. Do all that. Don't kiss for more than three minutes because we got to get right back into place and do it all

again at 1204. And what happens at 1204? The new ball drops at 12. As far as I know, you know, you could double check this with some actual sources and get better details. But my understanding is we're doing the traditional ball drop. Yes. 12 o'clock.

Yes. But with a new ball. Okay. Waterford crystals, but they're different shapes. Maybe you can do some colors. Might play music. Might have Alexa capabilities. I don't know the specifics, but it's a new ball.

12 o'clock, we count down from 60, the usual, kiss, da-da-da. But at 1204, it goes back up, and we do it all over again for America. You're just looking at me like I'm making this up. This is true, per the internet. I still don't understand why we're doing it twice. Well, America is turning 250. Did you know that? I did know that.

Yep. So some group has decided, while we're all together and focused, and we have all this confetti, let's just celebrate again. Doesn't really make sense to me either, but that's what we're doing. I've just completely put your head in a pretzel. You have to pace yourself now.

You have four extra minutes of not vomiting in the bushes to celebrate America at 1204. So there are people standing in line right now wearing the adult diapers so they don't lose their spot peeing their pants all day long out there waiting for the first ball to drop. Four extra minutes. Speaking of those people in diapers, I pulled up the Times Square Live feed yesterday They have one of those Earthlink, whatever, where you can just watch it at any moment. There are already people out there. Yes. That is the craziest thing.

They stay out there all day. I love New York. I even will go mix it up in Times Square a little bit. Christmas time, I'll go in there and elbow around at Macy's if I have to. But the Times Square crowd, I want nothing to do with it. It looks like mayhem. No bathroom, no food. You know, you put whatever you can in one drink and carry it around,

Wow. But I am not shy about my love for Dateline. I think I watched three episodes last night. I watched an episode last night. I just put on that live channel, whatever is that. I do, too. I'll jump into the middle. I don't need to know their history.

He's talking about Alabama's got the leading score in the conference who suffered a leg injury a week ago, but in Pope's comments yesterday, Pope is planning on seeing him. I think Nate Oates is kind of hinted that we'll see him.

So on Saturday, we'll get the SEC's best in Phylon. How do you think they should match up with him? He's 6'4 guard shooting like over 50% from the field and 40-something percent from three. He's lighting it up. You'd think probably Aberdeen will probably get the first assignment on him. They may trade him and Otega off on it because he is the best offensive player in the conference right now. So you've got to pay special attention to him. Can't let him go off for 30 against you.

No, and he's very capable of it. A lot of people thought he was going to go pro last year. He was considered kind of fringe first-round pick, and he shocked a lot of people by coming back to Alabama. So he's been an absolute stud. You know, O-Way was the preseason player of the year, and we hope he'll still get to that point as the year goes on. but Falon's been the story so far.

Alabama, they've got three or four losses of all the good teams, and he's played well throughout the year up until that injury against Kennesaw State. Last, what, three or four game we've seen the shades of the old Ottega coming back, you know, where he's like you brought it up to start of the season. Just get the ball and don't hesitate, go straight to the basket. He's doing that more often now, but he's also become a better defender. So I think, you know, Phelon may see both Aberdeen and Otega both on him. Yeah, yesterday Pope had a press conference.

Not too newsy. He talked a lot about Alabama. It was to preview that. But he also said they've had like practiced three times in 36 hours. They're getting in the two a days. It might even be a, yeah, that's a two a day and another half a day there. So they're really getting after it, even though it's quiet to us fans behind the scenes. They're putting in a lot of work.
