Starting point is 00:03:11 Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. We have some breaking news, Shannon. Running on a! Florida safety, Aaron Gates, transfer. is committed to Kentucky. He was their starting safety last year, got hurt at various points during the year. But just reading about him, was very talented, just had a hard time staying on the field,
Starting point is 00:03:37 but he will be coming to the University of Kentucky. Take the place maybe Jordan Levitt who graduates. You got Ty Bryant coming back. So maybe those are your starting safeties right now. You're ready in the back field. There you go. So that's, I think, their fifth guy they've taken in the portal. So the woman's name is Brunay Brown.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Not Barron Brown. No. And Brunay Brown, Shannon, here's what I did. I went online and I just searched the first video I could find him. Okay. Yeah. And I'm just going to play you. This is her on a podcast.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Have you heard it? I've listened to three seconds. And then I was like, you know what? I want to hear it on the, I want you to close your eyes. Okay. And see if you could hear Mark Pope saying this exact thing. What? That's not been easy.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Because we went to. some hard places, but I don't think we'll ever talk about anything more important than this. Because it's not fear that gets in the way of us being brave with our lives and our life. It's the armor that we reach for to self-protect when we're afraid. And the hardest work is being aware
Starting point is 00:04:37 of what is my armor when I'm afraid. Is that ultimatum? Oh, shit, no. It's a train. Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm gonna dump that. You have to dump the end. Whoa. Wow, Brunet. Pottie Mouttymouth. Come down, Bray. Brinay.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Mark Pope would never say that. Mark Pope would never say that. word Brene, but now the rest of it sounded like him. Yeah. Fear is the armor that keeps the truth from like the rest of it sounded like him. So you have to go get your armor to protect yourself. Now potty mouth Brene. Wow, Brene. Brenet's going to get us fine. Well, you got it though, right? You caught. Yeah, I got it. You got it. I hit the button. Yeah. Brenne. Bray. Pottie mouth. How do people seem to like Brene. My mom seems to like Brene.
Starting point is 00:05:18 That did sound like something we just heard Mark Pope say last night on his coaches show. Doesn't exactly scream Kentucky basketball. No, it doesn't. Okay, a couple things here. First of all, I wanted to get your take on my New Year's resolution. Okay, what is it? Made a New Year's resolution. So I was looking the other day and I hit my 2000th contact in my phone.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Nice. And I thought to myself, I have all these contacts. How many of these people do I really keep in touch with? Uh-huh. And the answer is not 2000. Right. Probably more like 50. So I thought, okay, one of two things needs to happen.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Either I need to be more proactive at being nice to people in my life. Or I need to not have them be contacts in my phone. Right. If you can't have some interaction with a person where you do something nice for them, then why are you kind of keeping them around? Do you know what I mean? Yeah. So as part of a resolution to try to like be more giving to people I care about,
Starting point is 00:06:21 I was like, you know what I'm going to do is every day I'm going to randomly pick a contact in my phone and do something nice for it. Very nice. And if I feel like for whatever reason, I either can't or I wouldn't know what to do, then Shannon, there's no reason for them to be in my phone. Delete. Just delete. Yeah. Because there's some people that just aren't in your life anymore. Right.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Or maybe you just don't like them. That's most of my contacts. Yeah. So I've done one a day, starting with the letter A. and I pick a different person with each letter. Uh-huh. I think I'm going to be on, today I'm on F. But it's actually been very nice.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Five people so far. One of them is a really good friend of mine that I just don't hang out with a lot, so I'm going to dinner with them next week. Very nice. Somebody that I have, you know, has worked with me over the years, but I probably didn't feel like I'd been as appreciative to them as I should.
Starting point is 00:07:18 I asked them what their favorite restaurant was and bought them a gift card to the favorite restaurant. Wow. And a couple of people I just wrote and said, hey, how you doing? Have it talked to you in a long time. And it's been very rewarding. And I hope to keep it up for the rest of the year. I think it's a good.
Starting point is 00:07:32 And then I've deleted some people. I've deleted like three people because I didn't even know what I would write them. And Shannon, if you don't even know what you can write someone, then why are they in your phone? I have names in my phone book that I don't even know who they are. Like, when did I even put them on? I don't even know like what? Exactly.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Who's that? And so, you know, why? not just so it's actually been and now we'll see if I'm able to keep it up but it's actually been pretty good you know there's going to come a moment and it may already happen where you reach out to one of your friends and they just just that simple gesture you're making may make a difference in their day in their life well that's obviously you don't right yeah maybe going through some things and maybe you reaching out maybe getting together with them is just just what they needed in their life so good for you so uh second thing last week I had to do a little photo shoot I was hoping we were going to
Starting point is 00:08:20 talk about this. For ESPN. They wanted me to take a couple photos. Yeah. I showed you the two. What are you laughing at? Go ahead. I showed you the two that came out of it.
Starting point is 00:08:33 Yes. What did you think? I'm not posting them. Okay. Just for the record. I'm not going to post them. Can we be honest? I mean, if you want.
Starting point is 00:08:42 The one picture, the headshot is like something would be in your senior yearbook in high school or on your Tinder profile. I didn't. Not the one. They took it. That's not the one they want to represent, I think, a sports talk radio host. And actually, that would be the one you would use if I wrote a motivational book. Exactly. You got your head resting on the palm of your hand.
Starting point is 00:09:00 Wouldn't that be the one if I wrote a Brunee Brown book? Is it that the picture they would use? How to Find Your Armor by Matt Jones. And you open up the jacket and there's your picture on the inside cover. Yep. Your hand in your head, smiling, cheesy smile. Your Tinder profile pictures is what that is. And what's the other one?
Starting point is 00:09:17 The second one is you. That's Matt Jones. You got your hat on. kind of got your knee up, you're kind of leaning in. That's the Matt I know. I don't know Tinder profile, Matt Jones. I know the other one. Well, they're both good pictures.
Starting point is 00:09:27 No, no. The second one's good. The first one's cheesy. I actually hope they use that one because that's the worst one. Why? Because it likes me look like a kind person. Like Ryan said, it kind looks like something that would be like, you know, when you go to get your senior pictures, that's one that they would use.
Starting point is 00:09:43 Like, hey, can you put your palm of your hand right there on your chin and kind of look like your... Like your pontium. I kind of feel like they're going to use that one. Oh, no. I hope so. It's a good picture. Don't get us wrong. It's just not a sports talk radio.
Starting point is 00:09:57 That picture doesn't scream sports talk radio to me. It screams. It means I'm ready to single and I'm ready to mean. That's the most likely to succeed in the year book. That's not what I won, by the way. What did you win in high school? Brainiac? I think.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Bob won most likely to succeed. Yeah. I think I won most studious. You felt like you got a little resentment towards Bobob on this. So Bob Bob was going to succeed and has. Yes, he has. But studious is not the one you want. In other words, biggest nerd.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Exactly. That's not the one you want. Well, because the only way they can find you was on your beanbag chair in your library. But I'm a perfect example, though, of you can be the, like, I was a huge nerd. Like, this was sad. One of my friends passed. away or somebody I went to high school with. We weren't close, but I knew him. It passed away just
Starting point is 00:10:52 this week. And when I saw that, it made me sad. Because, you know, you know, have you had people in your class die? I know, it's very sad. It's something kind of sobering about it. Like, you think about them, but you're also like, that person is my age. You know, he died and I was thinking about the last time I saw him, which was like 10 years
Starting point is 00:11:08 ago. And he was like, he came up to me and he goes, the fact you talk about sports for a living is a craziest damn thing I've ever seen. I was like, yeah, you're right. They knew you as nerd boy from Middlesborough library. Well, they knew me as like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:27 I mean, remember, they would send me to the library to read because I'd ran out of classes to take. Yeah. And so he was like, I can't, we goes, we all just can't believe it. We love it, but we can't believe it. So, anyway. I'll tell you what, I was voted in my senior year. What's that? Best school spirit.
Starting point is 00:11:44 I can see that, though. I can see that. You would have school spirit. I totally could see that. Did you win something, Janet? I don't think I won anything. I was too mediocre to win anything. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:54 Did you win something, Mario? Yeah. You just won most likely to post Thirst Trap on Instagram. Who's DG? What's up, DG? Hey, guys. Just want to hear y'all's thoughts. I was scrolling through X last night and seen an interesting stat that Kentucky Hoops had posted
Starting point is 00:12:12 that projects us to go 16 and 15 and 7 and 11 in FCC play. Yeah, that's bad. You know, I think for sure that what you're doing in the present is what you're going to do moving forward. But let's just say that we do do that. And moving forward, we don't get any top recruits. I know you've spent multiple times you don't see a world that Mark Pope doesn't come back for year three. But what does that kind of do for the state of his position going into year three? Is it kind of a make or break year?
Starting point is 00:12:44 Yes. And that scenario you just laid out. and that scenario you laid out it'll be a make or break year I appreciate the call they'll have to kill it in the portal and there will be skepticism all summer and it'll be a very high pressure year for Mark in that scenario you lay out
Starting point is 00:13:02 I think we're going to make the tournament we'll talk more about this tomorrow because our game is tomorrow night I was looking at the schedule I think tomorrow night is huge yes it is I think tomorrow night is huge and I think Saturday night's huge but I think tomorrow night is huge
Starting point is 00:13:17 cannot lose that game. Not at home. Not to Missouri. The schedule sets up to where if you can win these home games, you're probably all right. But there's not a ton of opportunities to steal them on the road because our road games are hard. Yeah. But there's not a ton of times you should lose at home. But one you could lose is Wednesday. And we can't. Half to win Wednesday. Wednesday night is huge. Yes. We'll talk more about it tomorrow. Mike, go ahead, Mike. You know, man, all that word selling last night, you know, I was just like, give God, because I listen for the basketball stuff. And the quote that stood out to me more than any of those, because I'm kind of like those,
Starting point is 00:14:00 you know, those players, I'm probably tuning out when he's going on and on with that crap. I can't even understand. But he said nobody was going under the screen. He did say that. Well, no, he said they're not coaching anyone to go under the screens. Okay, I thought he was saying they weren't going under it. I was just like, man, does he even? I think, I think, now, I mean, somebody can show me that I'm wrong,
Starting point is 00:14:25 but I think he said they didn't coach them to go under the screens, which I hope is correct. If he said they don't go under the screens, then I'm with you. That would drive me crazy because they do it all the time. But I think he said they don't coach them to go under the screens. But one more thing, you know, they were talking. A lot of people say the pieces. don't fit, which kind of maybe, but I actually think he's just playing the wrong pieces,
Starting point is 00:14:51 because if you look at the two best stretches that this team's had, it was the second half of that Indiana game and the second half of that St. John's game, and he let the guys play that should be playing, man, and they went on 16-0 runs, 17-0 runs, and that, I mean, that was good basketball. You might be right. I think that's a fair point. Appreciate the call. When he played in the Indiana game, it was Low O'A, Aberdeen, Garrison, Quentin, no, Garrison
Starting point is 00:15:23 who? Diabate. Probably. And then in the St. John's game, it was Low O'A Williams Diabate Quainton. When he played those lineups, we were really good. So how can you only play that lineup one minute?
Starting point is 00:15:41 the other day against Alabama. That second line up you talked about. I don't know. I don't know. JC. What's up, J.C.? Hey, Matt. The only thing I could think of him
Starting point is 00:15:54 not starting is Jalen Lowe and why he wouldn't say it, I don't know, but let's just say, all right, Jay Lowe is still healing. He needs to heal as much as possible. He's doing better, whatever.
Starting point is 00:16:09 But there is a world in which we go up 10-2, and what we're doing on the floor looks like we have an advantage and he just sits Jalen low and doesn't play yeah but because that's really what he wants to do but how does
Starting point is 00:16:26 I don't understand if he didn't play him in the game at all that argument could make sense to me what he said but how does coming in the game I know but how does coming in the game four minutes later help his recovery because he had to because he had to play him.
Starting point is 00:16:44 So you're saying if we were winning, then maybe he could not play. There's a world we could beat somebody without judging off. I see what you're saying. You're saying maybe then they wouldn't have to play. Okay, fair enough. I just know, and I appreciate the call, we've played four major conference teams this year.
Starting point is 00:16:58 And when Jalen Lowe has checked into the game, we've been losing all four of them. I don't know how that's positive. Maybe that guy is inside Pope's head. Maybe that's what Pope's thinking. We're going to try to get as many minutes as we can with Jalen Lowe on the bench, to kind of protect him as much as we can, put him in when we need it.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Maybe that is. Maybe that is what they think. P. Rats is a locally owned and operated appliance, furniture, and mattress store that served the area for over 75 years. Starting point is 00:21:15 When Jacob met Levant, this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? Starting point is 00:21:53 One person writes, Matt, did you hit your book? 52 books in a year ago? Yes. Did you? I did. You were kind of a scrambling. The night before. Did you really?
Starting point is 00:22:05 Yeah. Yeah, you were scrambling to get 52 in. So I got him in. I'm going to, I'm actually ranking. them one to 52. Yeah. And then I'm going to put them out. I might do that today, if not later in the week.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Because I don't want to, some of them I wouldn't recommend, but like the top 15 or 20 I would. So I'm going to put them out so people can have already started year two. I'll rank my books I read last year also. Go ahead. Let's hear them. I don't think I got to one. Great list. So you didn't even get one.
Starting point is 00:22:35 I don't even think I cracked open a book. Hmm. Even. I saw like, it said the average person reads four a year. Yeah. Ryan and I are bringing down that average. I read 52. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:47 So, Shannon, did you read a book? I don't think I did. Okay, so three divided by 52 is 17.3 amongst the three of us on this show. That's how many I read, 17.3 on average. I got to 52. I had to do a lot of reading in November, December, because I got behind. So you already started for this year, though? I'm reading two books right now.
Starting point is 00:23:10 I'm doing. How do you read two at the same time? How do you keep them straight? It's actually, I think my mind has been corrupted by the phone that I can't just read one. I almost need to go back and forth in the same way that people need to flip channels. So I tend to read like one fiction and one nonfiction at the same time. And you're able to keep it straight. Yeah, because one of them is real and one of them's not.
Starting point is 00:23:31 And I have a general ability to remember which one is real and which one's not. This fascinates me. Do you read one a night or you kind of flopped at the night? It's hard to read one. No, no. in the same night I'll read them both. You will. I tend to read nonfiction while awake, fiction to help me go to sleep.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Generally speaking. You could read one earlier in their evening and then when you go to bed, pull out the other one. Generally, that's not always hot works. In order to catch up, Shannon, I cheat a little bit towards the end. I only read short books in December, like 200 pages. Oh, they still count. So I can catch up. Have you seen these people that can like speed read?
Starting point is 00:24:11 I'm like, there's no way you're taking in that information. They just go. I can't speed read, but I read very fast. But they just touch the page and know what it says. I couldn't do that. I couldn't do that. Yeah, I couldn't do that. I don't know how people do that. Tiani Key, Kenny Brooks said last night, will likely be back before the end of the season.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Yeah, good update from him on his coaches show last night. We've been talking a lot about Pope on his coaches show, but Coach Brooks said that they don't know, not for sure win, but does expect her back by the end of the season. Did you see Michigan State, Tom Izzo, Shannon, they kicked out former player Paul Davis from the game for yelling at the refs. Yeah. And Paul Davis kind of was like playing it up,
Starting point is 00:24:53 trying to get the crowd to boo the ref. And Tom Izzo came on the floor and yelled at Davis, get out. Yeah, probably not doing them any favors by yelling at the ref. Which Kentucky player would be most likely to get kicked out of a game from the crew? crowd. See, I don't think DeMarcus would because I don't think he would get that. You need somebody who's that.
Starting point is 00:25:20 No, I mean, I think he cares, but I don't think he would like, I don't think he would do that. You almost need somebody who, like, is coming to a lot of games and, like, switches from player to crazy fan. Does that make sense? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like somebody that probably has to be somebody for. It probably needs to be somebody from Kentucky or somebody who goes to a lot of games. It's kind of what I would think. I have an answer.
Starting point is 00:25:48 Richie Farmer. I was thinking, Richie, but I don't know. Does he get that fired up at these games? Oh, yeah. You should see the text he sends during the game sometimes. Okay. I could see Richie losing it on a riff. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:58 Do you? I didn't thought about Richie. That's a great answer. I was thinking Sean Woods. That's a good call too. Yeah. Although, do you think he's that passionate about the game, about being a Kentucky fan? I think he is. I think he's become that since he's come back to Lexington.
Starting point is 00:26:16 One question. There's a guy who used to play at Kentucky named Jonathan Davis. Yeah. I keep seeing these videos of him on social media with Alan Cutler. And he's mean to Mark Pope. Yeah, actually I heard him on Cutler show yesterday. Why is he so mean to him? He was cooking. He was like, look, what does he do now? He's like a financial advisor, financial planner. Well, he seems very angry. Yeah, he was very critical. So maybe it's him. I could see it being him.
Starting point is 00:26:46 Because I haven't thought about that guy in a long time. I liked him when I was a kid because he wore glasses when he played. And I had glasses. Good call. Man, he gets angry, doesn't he? He got mad yesterday. Cutler just let him cook too, and he was very critical of a lot of things. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:03 Josh, go ahead, Josh. What's up, guys? Hey, first off, Darren Feldhouse. Good call. I went and saw him. That's a lot. A really good call. That's a really good call.
Starting point is 00:27:13 I saw his son at the King of the Bluegrass, and the only people I heard in that gym was his brother, which is the head coach in Darren Feldhouse. That's your answer. He's scary. You win. You win. That's the answer. He is more likely than Sean and Richie. Darren Feldhouse is a great answer.
Starting point is 00:27:32 Yes. One more thing. Because Pope looks so confused on the sideline. Sit O. Sit him. Benching. See what happens then. bench pope oh oh to go away i think oh to tagga o'er o'clock so here's the thing about otega i appreciate to call them
Starting point is 00:27:48 most people will tell you in the and pope acknowledged there were big time arguments during the game saturday uh-huh and i told you that on the post i had a friend who said they were yelling at each other all the time generally speaking the names you hear as being the ones yelling a lot are otega and diabate not at each other just at everybody uh-huh but i still feel like those two guys bring it most of the time. I've never thought there's a lack of effort on either one of their parts, ever. But they are definitely two of the guys chirping. But it's not necessarily at each other. It's just they're the two of the main ones. Is this a Debbie? Debbie. Hi, Debbie. Hello, how are you guys this morning? So yesterday I said that Stephen Wilson said there ain't a lot of
Starting point is 00:28:39 Debbie's anymore. Do you agree with that? Well, I find them everywhere I go because everybody keeps calling me somebody else. Are they under 40? Are they under 40? No. So Stephen might have been right. I have to agree with most of them we're over 40. I am over 40 as well, so yeah, I can totally, I can agree with that. I just have 30 seconds. I want you to make your point. Go ahead. Okay. I have a two-part question.
Starting point is 00:29:09 with Mitch's tendency to drag out making coaching changes and things are going bad. How long do you give Pope to get it right? And the second part is, if he doesn't get it right before Mitch retires, do you think the new AD will take care of it? Let me, it's a long answer. Let me do it after the break. All right, Debbie, thank you very much. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Be right back. KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J., he'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented, by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Eminem. Yeah. Eminem had a lot of hits. Do young people, Mario, like Eminem?
Starting point is 00:29:52 Like, did he, did people care? Like, I don't think people were us how big, I don't think younger people would realize how big Eminem was. Would you say Eminem, Shannon, was the biggest rapper during his day, at least until, I mean, I don't keep up with modern music. But like in our day, he said, Stars, yeah, like, what, late 90s, early 2000s? Yeah, I mean, he was bigger just in terms of as a star than even like, you know, Tupac, biggie. Snoop was pretty big, too.
Starting point is 00:30:24 Snoop had like the longest staying power. He did. He did. Did you see Stoop calling the basketball game last night? I saw him interview Steph. Steph Curry going into the game or something. Snoop called the basketball game last night, the Warriors and Clippers. And as Steve Kerr got kicked out, you got to hear him.
Starting point is 00:30:40 He's like, tell him, Kerr, give him Kerr, there you go, Kurt. Like, you got to hear it. It's great. Stoop is everywhere. He's going, Eaglewood's here. And I don't think Steve Kerr's from Englewood. But he was good. He's everywhere.
Starting point is 00:30:55 Just a little. One person wrote, are you guys only saying the unforgettables were hotheads? No, because I actually have a better answer even than Derhamfeld. Oh, you do? Which I'll give in a second. Okay. But I just realized, I do think all. four of the unforgettables were kind of hotheads.
Starting point is 00:31:13 That's why they're unforgettable. That's why people loved them. They gave their heart and soul. But don't you think all four of them were kind of hotheads? Rank the hotheads of those four. Well, I'd probably said, Feldhouse one, Woods, two, Richie three,
Starting point is 00:31:26 Felt House, Pelfrey, four. See, I would have even... So when they were playing at UK, I would have maybe put Pelfrey one. You think you would have? But now I do think he's probably... I don't know. him or Richie's the bottom.
Starting point is 00:31:41 Yeah. It's either Darren or Sean for one and two. For number one. That's not the answer, though. There's one better than those guys. Cameron Mills. You know what? And he's got a loud mouth, too.
Starting point is 00:31:54 He'll be able to hear him. Cameron Mills. He's the one most likely to get kicked out. He goes to all the games. And if Dave Baker was on the court. Oh, God. Forget about it. Can I tell you something before I answer Debbie's question
Starting point is 00:32:09 that I heard yesterday that blew my mind. What's that? Now, I can't confirm this, but this is now pretty much being universally agreed upon by the internet. Okay. So, do you know, you know Erica Kirk? Yes. Charlie Kirk's wife. Widow.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Widow. Yes. Do you know who she dated for a year and a half? I saw that. Cameron Mills? George. Josh Harrelson. Really?
Starting point is 00:32:36 Yeah. Did you know that? No idea. I had no idea. When he was playing for the Knicks, they dated each other. And then when he went overseas, whatever country he played in, people in that country called her the first lady of that country. I guess there's pictures of the two of them together that she scrubbed off the internet.
Starting point is 00:32:56 They're scrubbed off the internet, but you can see the replies where people replied to them. Called them a cute couple. About their relationship. Apparently dated for a long time. I had no idea. I had no idea. And I know Jorts or at least knew Jorts pretty well. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:14 No clue. He came in and set with us to do a show around that time. So, Shannon, did you know that? No, I had no idea. Jorts and Erica Kurt. Gene Shorts, real end in the ladies. And so like there was a video about it and the person didn't know who Jorts was. Yeah, I saw that.
Starting point is 00:33:34 And was laughing that they called him George. She kept calling him Joshua Harrell. She kept saying she dated Joshua Joshua. Which we've never once called him Joshua. Never, haven't we? Just for the ladies, I think. It's Joshua. She thought it was funny that they called him George.
Starting point is 00:33:49 My picture is a, that's a Joshua picture. That's a Matthew picture. Yeah, see, the hat is Matt. That's Matthew. The other picture is Matthew. Matthew Harper. This is Matthew Hoppa. The hat is Matt.
Starting point is 00:34:02 The holding my chin is Matthew. Please don't let him use that one. Why? No, we want them to use that one so we can make fun of it. But you told me you thought it was good. For your Tinder profile, your high school senior. But you think that doesn't make me look like a good sports. No.
Starting point is 00:34:19 Ryan's trying to be nice. Ryan, say what you really mean. Looks like a little weenie. We need a weenie. That says I'm a weenie. A little weenie head. No, it says I'm the intellectual. Now, I'm sure the ladies would love that photo.
Starting point is 00:34:36 You look very good. cute, handsome. Guys are like, I can let's that guy talk about sports. So don't use that one for sports. Correct. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:44 So if ESPN picks that one, veto. What the one you got to have on? They gave me like seven. I vetoed like two of them. Oh, God. So you actually approved that one? It was better than some of the other ones.
Starting point is 00:34:55 I gotta see the other ones. Some of the other ones were even more that way than that one. I got to see the ones that didn't make the cut. Now, he did kind of show us a couple of you're standing up. One of those was pretty good. Yeah, that was like action shot, though. I don't think they're going to, they needed one for like, that's got to be, well, one of these has to be my head shot.
Starting point is 00:35:11 We mean action, doing what? I'm just standing against the wall laughing. Okay, I got you. Yeah. Yeah, the action is he's standing up laughing. That's a good action. No, it's me playing baseball. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:35:29 The question about would, would Mitch fires Pope? No, he would not. I see no scenario Pope were to lose his job at the United States. this year. None. But now, if they didn't have a good year next year, I could see it. I think you're right. I think regardless what happens this year, next year three would be the make or break year. But there's not, do you agree, no scenario he would lose it. I don't. I can't. I can't. And the kinds of things that would do it are not things Mark Pope would do. Correct. So I don't, I just, I can't see a scenario.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Cody. What's up, Cody? Hey, Matt, how are you guys doing today? Good. Hey, I had a football recruiting question if you're taking those. Go for it. So I've been keeping up on the quarterback situation, and I saw where Cutter looked like he was headed to Arizona State. Yes. And it felt like their quarterback might have been the top guy in the portal. And there for a while, it felt like Kentucky was that decision.
Starting point is 00:36:25 But as of last night, I don't feel like that's the case anymore. And it looks like more of Notre Dame's backup. Correct. And I'm wondering, are we seeing another? their JMI deal problem? No. No. I think that might have something to do it. I think it's worth noting. I appreciate the call. There is still, and I still have many questions related to the JMI deal as it pertains to basketball recruit. They're still unknown to me.
Starting point is 00:36:50 I've still asked for an interview or to at least talk to those folks that hasn't happened. I think it could happen in the next couple weeks has not happened yet. So I am just putting pause on my JMI basketball questions. They have not been answered for me one way or the other. I, however, do not think JMI is an issue for football. And I could explain why, but that probably would take a podcast and I don't want to end the show with it. I'll just say this.
Starting point is 00:37:19 The football players, especially the ones that come to Kentucky, don't make as much money and don't have the leverage the basketball players do, because we're not recruiting the top 10 kids in America. True. So our issues about NIL, to me, are basketball issues. I think Kentucky, while we don't have as much money as like Ohio State, Oregon, we've got enough to be good. And I do not think that JMI will have an impact.
Starting point is 00:37:52 The only situation it ever could is like an elite, elite quarterback. And I think the only time that could have happened was Leavitt, and I do not think Leavitt didn't end up here because of that. So to answer your question, I do not think it is at this point an issue at all in football. Remains to be seen about basketball. I agree with you about Levin. I mean, when Lane Kiffin's calling you at LSU
Starting point is 00:38:19 and Miami's calling you that they're in the final four of the playoffs right now, you're going to listen. I think we would have gotten him over Miami. Yeah. I think LSU and Lane Kiffin were just the one. And then I think he also wants to figure, like wanted to explore all options. And Kentucky, they didn't want to end up in musical chairs without a chair. True.
Starting point is 00:38:41 Right? I think that's a big thing. Nebraska, the reason Will Compton was so mad is he's worried it's musical chairs and they didn't end up with a chair. Yeah. That's why, you know, they had the Elon quarterback on campus. He's a potential backup. Well, he may still come here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:55 as the second string. As right, as a backup. But they needed a starter and they didn't want to get out of it without one. Dave, go ahead, Dave. Yeah, getting back to Pope and some of the stuff, he says it's kind of puzzled. In the last week or so,
Starting point is 00:39:15 he said in an interview that the reason he didn't start low was that he didn't want him in the initial scout for the other thing. I don't understand that. Not like he's a secret weapon or anything. Yeah, exactly. I mean, you don't think Nate Oates, scouts, Jalen Lowe? I mean, like, he's our best player.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Everybody's going to scout him. And the second thing is, I don't understand. In the post-game interview, when they asked him why Cam Williams didn't play more, he said that Cam needs to take better advantage of the time that he gets. Well, he was eight of ten from three in the Bellarmine game. I mean. I'm with you. I don't understand that either.
Starting point is 00:39:54 And then the second half he came in and immediately hit a three. Yeah, I agree. I appreciate that. The scout answer does not, that doesn't pass a smell test for me. I mean, you don't think they scout the dudes on the bench? You don't think they know Jalen Lowe is going to play? I mean, I'll say this. If our scout doesn't include the other team's six-man, it ain't a very good scout. Very true. Ring in the new year with a new ride at Don Franklin. Starting point is 00:44:43 Welcome back, Tuggy Sports Radio. Got some breaking news, Shannon. Rani-na-na-na-na! Tuggy added another commissue. Commitment, Tennessee offensive lineman Max Anderson has transferred to Kentucky. No idea if he's good or not. Does it say he's a guard or a tackle? It says he's an interior offensive line.
Starting point is 00:45:05 So that's the way they do those now. They just say interior. So the man, they got two of the five. They lost all five of them. They got two. Played in 15 games in the SEC. Yeah. He played right guard, left guard, and center for the balls.
Starting point is 00:45:21 Four-star recruit. Okay, so our centers from Baylor, pretty good program. This guy's from Tennessee, pretty good program. Yeah, rebuilding the offensive line. Yeah. Which they need. Absolutely desperately need. So there you go.
Starting point is 00:45:36 I don't, again, don't know. He was a red shirt flat freshman last year played in 15 games. So there you go. Really? We were bringing in guys from New Mexico State and Illinois State. In his recruiting class of 2024, he was the number of, Number 18 interior linemen in the country. I trust them.
Starting point is 00:45:56 Sounds like a good player. Yeah. You know, I do a lot of it. Interior linemen. Well, that's kind of my specialty in evaluating. That's what I thought. What does he do well? You want to break it down for us?
Starting point is 00:46:07 Well, I think is the way he can, you know, he blocks. Yeah. That's good. It's always important. Footwork. Uh-huh. Yeah, that's good. Arm length.
Starting point is 00:46:14 Uh-huh. Yeah, very important. They want T-Rex arms. Yeah, pancakes. I saw where Jagger entered the NFL draft. Good for him. I hope it works. Hope it works out for him.

Starting point is 00:46:58 let's do Louisville Duke Louisville's a one and a half point favorite at home tonight against the Duke Blue Devils Ryan who you got I cannot pick Louisville I don't like Duke but I can't pick
Starting point is 00:47:11 I'm picking Duke to not just cover win the game Shannon I think I'm agreeing with Ryan I would take Duke money line on this one especially if McHale Brown's not plan. I'm going big on Duke.
Starting point is 00:47:23 Yeah. Cal Brown's not playing. How's Louisville the favorite? I know they're home, but like... They just lost to Stanford, right? Does Duke have somebody out, or are they healthy? I don't think so. Duke's only lost one game. I mean, Louisville can win, but how are they favored?
Starting point is 00:47:45 I'm... Matt Jones, Lock up. the week. That's my Matt Jones pensive pose from that's my guru pose lock of the week. You got your hand resting in your head resting in your hand. Am I wrong about that?
Starting point is 00:48:01 Am I wrong? Stop thinking about my picture. I'm asking you about the game. They got the dude's going to have the best player in Boozer. They're playing really good. Level's coming off a loss. Their best player's out. One person writes, Matt, I don't know
Starting point is 00:48:17 if you saw all the rich people in the world went to St. Barts for New Year's. Would you all like to have been there? Did you see this? I did not see this. Apparently of the 100 biggest yachts in the world. Okay. So presumably 100 of the richest people in the world, right?
Starting point is 00:48:35 All right. 46 of them were in St. Barts this weekend. 46 of the 100 biggest yachts in the world. Wow. We're all in the same place. So like all these tech billionaires, Tom Brady was there. Was he?
Starting point is 00:48:50 He was dancing with Alex Earl, which like Brady's my age. Alex Earl. I don't know. What she? 23, 24. But they were all cozy. That was the place to be.
Starting point is 00:49:03 And then we ended up going and getting the Venezuela president and they all got trapped there. Did you see that? I didn't know that. They closed the airspace. So they're stuck there. Well, they finally got to go. But for like 48 hours, they were all stuck.
Starting point is 00:49:17 There's some great videos online. of rich people freaking out because they're not allowed to fly home. Even Leonardo DiCaprio was getting the Lifetime Achievement Award from this film group and he had to miss the ceremony because even he couldn't get out.
Starting point is 00:49:32 Wow. These guys are used to fly and whenever they want at the minutes noticed. And they couldn't. And people were going crazy. So would you like to have been there with all those rich people? Sure.
Starting point is 00:49:43 You say that, but don't you think you would feel like you didn't fit in? Of course I would, but I want to be there. How do they know what your net worth is? Oh, you think they would think Ryan's a billionaire. Just because he's there. If you're in that company, you have to have money to be there. But what if you can't get on those yachts?
Starting point is 00:49:58 Like all these yachts are there and everybody's partying and you're sitting on the beach, like going, hey, what about Ryan? Well, I definitely looked the part of a millionaire. Oh, for sure. So I think they'd see that. Oh, let's bring that guy on our yacht. He needs to come in. You think they would bring you on the yacht? Yeah, and have some champagne and caviar.
Starting point is 00:50:14 You think they would? Yeah. I think of all the people there. The supermodels, the celebrities, you think they would invite you on? Supermodels would see me get very thirsty. They would not. They would not, I don't think. Especially if I take my shirt off and I'm flexed on the beach.
Starting point is 00:50:30 They get dehydrated. Matthew, go ahead, Matthew. I hate to be the one to tell Ryan this, but I don't know any millionaires that have holes in their socks, but I'm not one. That's true. It may not. And these were billionaires. Oh, yeah. But go ahead.
Starting point is 00:50:47 But no holes. They might not even have socks. That's exactly right. Matt, you should stick to volleyball scouting. Your interior offensive lineman vocab was a lackluster. Well, what should I have said? But what I really... All I know is pancakes, so I guess you got...
Starting point is 00:51:04 Okay, got you, yes. And I don't even know what a... By the way, our new center, our new center from Baylor, ESPN named one of his blocks last year, the pancake of the week. Oh, they did. So we have... Mr. Pancake. But go ahead.
Starting point is 00:51:19 Blueberries or chocolate chip. I don't know. It was very popular. What I really wanted to call and say is I know we all love Mo D and we all love Jane Quatance, but I just don't know how we play those two together on offense. They're both just big bodies. They require, you know, being the paint to bang, get offensive rebounds.
Starting point is 00:51:38 And we talk about floor spacing and shooting. And I don't see how those two guys help either of those things when they're in together. I think it's fair question. That's just what I would have a completely fair question. I appreciate the call. Completely fair question. and I wonder the same thing. It worked against St. John's because they can't shoot either.
Starting point is 00:51:57 But does that work against a team that puts up 90? I don't know. Probably not. So that goes back to the roster being poorly constructed. But while I agree with that, that's not an excuse for when we don't play defense and they should be able to play defense at least. Maybe we'll struggle scoring, but we shouldn't give up 90. That's a good defensive lineup if you got those two guys down.
Starting point is 00:52:19 In theory, that's a really good. That's how we want to get St. John's was our defense. The St. Johns couldn't score either. So I think that's a fair question, but that doesn't explain the problems against Alabama. No. If we lose 78, 71, because we can't score, then I think you bring that up. When we give up 90 and give up open shot after open shot, that ain't because we're playing Diabate and Quaintons together. That's when I thought Yelovich would be a guy that could come in and shoot the threes, but he's 0 of 10.
Starting point is 00:52:46 Who even remembers if he's on the team? Yeah. I mean, forget he's on the team. So, all right, well, thank you folks very much. Fun show. We will see you tomorrow at KS. Barr. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy,
