Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Starting point is 00:03:15 859-2802287. This segment sponsored by P-Rats, locally owned and operated appliance, furniture, and mattress store that has served the area for over 75 years. Even after 75 years, P-Rats keeps getting. getting better with age. Being voted the best appliance retailer in the bluegrass the last six years in a row. Unlike the big box stores,
Starting point is 00:03:34 our P-R-R-R-R-T-R-E-R-E-R-T-S-E-R-T-S-E-R-T-S-T-S. Go to P-R-A-R-T-S dot com. It's P-R-R-A-R-T-S. Nobody beats a P-RATs. That's exactly right. A couple things here. We got folks on the phone I want to get to, but I do think it's worth noting.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Officially, yesterday, MTV, stopped showing videos on any channels. The video era has ended on MTV. It's kind of sad because we were all at that age when we grew up when MTV kind of exploded. I remember you custom home on a Friday night to watch Friday night videos, and then when MTV came on like, oh my goodness. Shannon, what is this? What do you think?
Starting point is 00:04:17 Well, I didn't even know that they were still running videos. Well, they still had other channels. They had like five or six channels of videos, like MTV hip-hip-hop, MTV 90s. But I can't think of another channel that was like four. its time, in its time, the channel to now, like, nothing. Like, people forget it to even on the air. When I was a kid, I watched two channels. ESPN
Starting point is 00:04:35 and MTV. That was it. Yep. We wouldn't have had to have any other channels. In high school, I would watch ESPN MTV. We all grew up that MTV era. I read a book right at the end of last year. I highly recommend Q the Sun, which is the history of reality TV and they talk a lot about the real world, but they also
Starting point is 00:04:51 talk about the influence MTV has had. Okay, so with that in mind, before video, like go away forever, I will ask you, what are the five most iconic music videos of all time? Before we pick them, let's just do some contenders. Okay. All right, contenders, most iconic music video of all time. Thriller.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Got to be. Okay. Okay. Okay. Teens got to be on it. Yeah. Okay. B'en-er-en-er-uh.
Starting point is 00:05:23 What else? Well, for my era, that video. take on me because it was like half cartoon half real and the real people morphed into cartoons that was so incredibly awesome part of it might be their first video they played chanin and that money for nothing yeah the dars because it was the first ever video no no you're thinking of uh radio kill video killed the radio sir you're exactly right you're exactly right um what else brittney spears uh hit me baby one more time yeah that's probably got to be on the That's got to be on there because everybody knows it and everybody, the schoolgirl thing.
Starting point is 00:06:01 I feel like gangstice paradise was big for its time, too. I think it was a big one. It was like it was on all the time. Let's see. Maybe if you want to pick a hip hop one, is it going to be like nothing but a G thing? Yeah. Because we all can see like Snoop Dogg Dogg waking up and he gets out of bed, one, two, three, and to the four. Snoop Doggy Dog and Dr. Dre is at the door.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Keep going. I mean, I could. But I'm not going to. We've got to be missing a couple. No, there's a bunch. What's Madonna's biggest one? Like a prayer. Like a prayer.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Vote. What about the one with the guy, Robert Palmer and the girls? Oh, yes. You know what I'm talking about? The women are like... Might as well face it. You're addicted to love. And they're playing the guitar behind him.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Is that the one he's doing that on? I thought that was the one that he was doing it on where he's... Well, that was a very iconic image. What else? You mentioned Madonna. There was a couple of her videos got banned from MTV. Oh, yeah, some of her videos were very saucy. I know we're forgetting people.
Starting point is 00:07:02 Gene and the bottle was good. I love Jeannie in the bottle. But I don't know if that's on the list. Well, anyway, people can put it on. Because I want to pick the five. I think without question, oh, November rain. Yes, that's a good one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:20 So I think without question, you've got to have Michael Jackson Thriller. smells like teen spirit and I'm going to go ahead and say November rain because that was like this epic performance of a video There's got to be a Madonna one She helped skyrocket MTV with her video And there needs to be like a rap one
Starting point is 00:07:37 Because all it was at the end was rap and boy bands So Well yeah like I want it that way Was on constantly I want it that way was on there too Or by bye bye All the small things blink 182 was on there all the time 1.92. All right, well, people can have their suggestions. Who's up first?
Starting point is 00:07:58 Let's go to Ben. Ben. Go ahead, Ben. Hi, guys. Appreciate you taking my call. Just wanted to call in and kind of talk about basketball a bit, but, I mean, this can't go on much longer. I mean, what message does it send, you know, to the college basketball world if we accept this, you know, I don't think this team labeled any tournament, much less the NCAA tournament. We've got no recruiting, no energy, bizarre interview. views. You know, he finally started the correct lineup last night, but not on his own accord just
Starting point is 00:08:32 after there was buzz about it all week. You know, so post lost, and, you know, that's proven by the statistics and the eye test both. Yeah, I mean, I understand. I appreciate the call. They did start the right lineup. We weren't, we didn't get behind in the first segment. We did get behind as soon as we put the reserves in, but it was 6-6 on the first timeout. That was better than it's been some games. So he started the right lineup. We really haven't talked about the lineup he finished the game with. Yeah, I mean, I didn't like that they didn't have quaintance.
Starting point is 00:09:06 First of all, let me just go through. Diabate for the second straight game was a huge part of the bickery. Yes. Which is why I don't think he was playing at the end. Mario was sitting on the floor since I mentioned he's arguing with everybody. You said Mario he's arguing with everybody. And the caller just said a minute ago he was arguing with Pope. He's arguing with everybody.
Starting point is 00:09:27 And he did it against Alabama too. And I don't want to throw the kid on the bus. I don't think we lost because of that. But he did not play well. And he argued with everybody the play that sticks out to me. And Dame Bradshaw, who I think is a really good analyst, pointed it out. They had a high low with Moreno. Yes.
Starting point is 00:09:44 Diabate doesn't throw him the ball and then yells at him. Waited too long to throw it. waited too long, and then yelled at him. I think there's a lot of that. I think there's a lot of people, there's a lot of frustration, I think, amongst the team about Diabate. And so then he didn't play the last six or seven minutes. Did not. But Garrison, to be fair, Garrison Moreno were playing pretty well,
Starting point is 00:10:06 even though they made a lot of errors down the stretch. I just don't know, with a minute to go, 53 seconds, where they called timeout and set up a play, and they put the ball in Brandon Garrison's hands to initiate the offense, and then he threw it away. Yeah. I just don't know if that's the right move to make at that time with Brandon. The Aerosmith, Alicia Silverstone videos. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:27 Uh-huh. Crazy. Is it crazy? Oh, man, I had such a crush on Alicia Silverstone. She was huge in that time. What about, what was the one with Chris Isaac with that woman on the beach? I don't want to fall in love? No, it's wicked game.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Oh, wicked game. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right. Yeah. I love that woman. I don't even know who that is. But as a kid, I was in love with her. Do you even know her name?
Starting point is 00:10:51 Who was that? I'm trying to think who it was. Yeah, I don't either. Black or white with Michael Jackson. Oh, that was great. Where the people morphed into each other? Yes. You know,
Starting point is 00:11:01 Tyra Banks was one of those. This band wasn't big, but I think one of the more iconic videos, Shannon, was that Jamiriqua video. Oh, yeah, he was on like the treadmills. Yeah. You know, do you remember that? I remember that one. Virtual insanity.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Virtual insanity. I mean, that song and that band doesn't really matter, but that video was a very, at the time, sort of thing. Janet Jackson walking down the beach. I knew you were going to say Janet Jackson. I knew it. I would have predicted any amount of money you were going to say Janet Jackson. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:11:31 Drew. Drew, go ahead, Drew. Hey, guys, longtime fan here. Been following you guys, KSR specifically since I was in high school. I'm tired of talking about the same things every week, really. it's just getting redundant for me. I'm going to throw something else at you guys. A little game of would you rather.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Do you rather win pretty much all year, maybe five losses on the season, make the tournament and lose in the sweet 16 or before, or have a season like we're having now, somehow sneak in with a 10 seed like Matt said, and make a run into the elite eight or final four. I really can't decide. I want to win, but I also can't. Yeah, I mean, I will always.
Starting point is 00:12:14 tournament success. I mean, the example you would say is like, would you rather have the Oscar year we lost to St. Peters, or would you rather have the Harrison Twins year where we get to the championship game? I'm always going to take the Harrison's year because, you know, when I'm 90 years old, and I appreciate the call it, I'm laying on my deathbed, and to the extent I'm thinking about UK basketball. At this point, however, you know, the world may have burned up, and I may just be, but let's just say that it exists, and I'm thinking about UK basketball. When I'm thinking about the things that were the best,
Starting point is 00:12:51 that 2014 run's going to be up there. I can't remember much being more exciting than those games against Wichita State, Louisville, Michigan, and Wisconsin. So I think ultimately the tournament success is what I'm always going to pick. Yeah, you definitely take that. That's that 2014 run. We don't remember, I don't remember a lot of the struggles they had during the regular season. We remember that March Madness run.
Starting point is 00:13:11 So if he's asking me which one I'm taking, I'm definitely taking that. Real slim, shady. Good one. Because they had all the people that look like him. Look like him. Yeah. Run DMC, walk this way. Yep.
Starting point is 00:13:23 That was one of the first big breakout videos, wasn't it? California love Tupac. Yeah. I'll tell you one, they played a lot. Meatloaf. No. I would do anything to love. This song is horrible.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Wow. That one seems to read. That's the first one you've had a big reaction to. You don't like meatloaf? No, Shannon? No. I don't like the musician or the food. You don't like the food either?
Starting point is 00:13:47 Anything about meatloaf is awful. Okay. Wow, so you hate both the musician and the food. Don't get me meatloaf. Don't want to hear it. Don't want to taste it. I feel like meatloaf is a grandmother food. It is.
Starting point is 00:13:59 I love me some meatloaf. It is. Of course you like meatloaf. Yeah. Who makes meatloaf that's not a grandmother? Cracker barrel. That's grandmother stuff, though. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:08 I mean, Cracker barrel, I think that people working in the kitchen are all grandmothers. Yoga girl makes a great meatloaf. That's my favorite thing she makes. Does she just cook for you all the time? Yeah, a lot of the time. Is that why I keep her around? Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:14:26 I'm kidding. Oh, sweetie. I saw that, I saw your visceral reaction, man. I saw your reaction. So people say to me, Matt, how come you're not married? My man over here, this is why this is why this will be the third Is because he says things like that Oh, sugar booger, I'm kidding
Starting point is 00:14:48 That's also not a sweet name Sugar Booger No woman wants to be called a sugar booger Yeah, I'll probably pay for that one Yeah By the way, people are all using that picture of me In the hat and sweater now As like a meme
Starting point is 00:15:04 Uh-huh, I don't care, I like that picture Yeah I think it's good The real photo of you is good The memes are now getting really hilarious Put a big beard on you So I only had a big beard on you One of you had like a hippie haircut on you
Starting point is 00:15:17 That's fine I think the funniest one was the first one The one with the little kid That was good too I thought that was the best one Had they picked that one to be your profile pick I don't know I don't know I haven't heard
Starting point is 00:15:29 I kept waiting for Tom Hart To make some of reference about those photos too last night Well how's he gonna reference that I don't know he's pretty good at that kind of thing All right. Who's next? Dustin. Dustin. Go ahead, Dustin. Yeah, this squarely falls on Pope's shoulders.
Starting point is 00:15:44 You cannot make Otega O'Way the centerpiece of your team. I mean, don't get me wrong, he's our best player. However, last year I told my friends, I'm a buddy. Adi's year I was better. O'A is a poor man, Michael Kidd, Gilchrist, and with Mitch Barnes, this is his fault as well. JMI things. Pope can't recruit.
Starting point is 00:16:05 This is Barnhart Tyre. What's the deal on him stepping away? Is that true? Well, I mean, I still believe my bet is still that he does. You know, I think it's one of those things that maybe me saying it makes him more resilient to stay. I don't know. But I still think it's more likely that he does. I mean, the contract says what it does.
Starting point is 00:16:28 The contract allows him to start stepping away right now. I also think it's just the right time. There's so much transition happening at UK. I still believe it's the right time. I've taken some heat from the folks at UK for saying that, but I still believe it's the case. And so I still think he will, and I honestly still think he should. So with the basketball season going south a little bit,
Starting point is 00:16:51 is he more of a guy that wants to get out now, either getting's good or we'll try to see it resurrection? There's a part of Mitch, I think, that would think, I've got to stay here and leave the ship correct before I leave. I think so too. I think he's that kind of guy he wants to leave his legacy with everything on solid ground.
Starting point is 00:17:08 Yeah. The reality in Kentucky right now, if you can't find affordable child care a place to live, it's hard to take jobs and businesses can't grow. We're short tens of tens of thousands of child care spots
Starting point is 00:17:19 and parents when they can't find child care, they're forced to cut hours and leave the work force. We are trying to tell Frankfurt at the Kentucky Chamber, fix this. Go to Opportunity Startshere.com to add your name today.
Starting point is 00:17:32 Opportunity Starts Artshere.com to add your name today with the Kentucky Chamber. Little thing to watch, I don't know if it means much, but somebody filed a bill yesterday that would force Kentucky and Louisville to play eastern, western, northern Murray State and Moorhead in, quote, as many sports as possible every year. What if they made us play them every year in basketball? All those schools? That's what the bill says.
Starting point is 00:17:59 I'm going to play in one. I need a lot of the list. It was only the public schools. I'm okay doing one a year. You can't force them to play five. Can't. You cannot force those schools to play all five. That would be, they would have to vote that now.
Starting point is 00:18:13 That's half your non-conference schedule. I mean, that's half your basketball schedule. So you can't do that. We'll take a break right back. KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,

Starting point is 00:19:33 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch life becomes about wins and losses Steve Burns, Dustin Ross because you find it important to be a good person

Starting point is 00:20:18 On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions. To talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that can't. keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs, Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke.
Starting point is 00:20:49 The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Starting point is 00:21:17 podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across.
Starting point is 00:21:50 When Jacob met Levant this went to a billion-dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, Just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:22:23 TV? See, I feel like this is definitely one. Nothing. And your chicks for free? Yep. This is certainly one, in my opinion. I feel like this was like it had the little tech and everything, and it was one.
Starting point is 00:22:38 I got a couple others. Okay, go for it. Freedom, George Michael, where he's not even in the video. It's all the supermodels singing the song. I actually don't remember that one. That just feels like one you would remember. It's pretty iconic. What about the White Snake video with Tonic?
Starting point is 00:22:53 That one definitely, where she's on the car. Yes. Yes. It's not surprising, Shannon. He picks all the slightly, you know. Say warrant cherry pie. Yeah, I mean, I'm kind of surprised he didn't. That was next.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Let's go. Some more in here. Seal, kiss from a rose. I feel like they did show that one a lot. That was a big one. Let's see. I've got... I wonder what the most played video ever on MTV is.
Starting point is 00:23:20 That's a great question. I don't know. Somebody may be able to look that up. That would be a good question for trivia, right? Don't you think? Top videos ever on MTV? I'm trying to think of the ones where they're like, can image a moment from them.
Starting point is 00:23:33 So, like, I can image like Beastie Boys sabotage. I can see what they look like when they were doing that, Shannon. You know what I mean? Yep. And MC Hammer can't touch this with the Hammer pants. Oh, yes, that's a good one. Yeah. That's a good one.
Starting point is 00:23:46 According to Google, you want to know the most played video of MTV and MTV History is Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel. That felt like the one. I think that's a good one. I can also, like, Billy Idol white wedding. Yes, another good one. Yeah, these are old. Black hole son was the freakiest music video.
Starting point is 00:24:03 Black hole son scared me. Yeah, I didn't like it. The way their faces all morphed and all that. One person writes, Matt, you're an hour and a half into this. You still haven't said anything about what happened in Minnesota yesterday. I'm going to mention something on that, but I'm going to give people notice so that they can, if they don't want to listen, not get mad. Because I actually have a legal way of looking at it. But I'm going to wait.
Starting point is 00:24:27 I'll do that. I'll do that next segment. So you can run away if you don't. want to hear that. Okay. I think that's fair, right? We talk about what's going on in our country. It's definitely a big topic. Did you see the tennis player who entered into the professional tournament and had never played tennis? What? I already love this story. I don't even know where it's going. Have you seen this video? No. Best video on the internet. You got to look it up. It's a women's tennis tournament. It is a professional tournament. It is like a,
Starting point is 00:24:55 the way the tennis tour works, there's like six or seven tournaments every week somewhere around the world. The big ones are there, but then they're also little ones. Yes. And sometimes everybody outside the top 10 plays in the little ones too, right? It's one, I want to say it's in India, but it is a professional tournament. And a woman enters, and if you watch the video, it looks like she doesn't, she doesn't know where to serve from.
Starting point is 00:25:19 She doesn't even know the rules. No one has written how she got in the tournament. How do they allow that? You've got to watch the video. She can't hit the ball. She somehow scored three points, I think, because twice the other person double fault. I don't know why you would double fault. Why don't you just dink it over the net?
Starting point is 00:25:37 That's true. She can't hit it. But watch her try to serve. She misses the ball once. Well, you know, we all got behind the breakdancer. This is different, though. The breakdancer clearly had break danced. I don't think this person had ever played tennis before.
Starting point is 00:25:53 How did she get into the tournament? I don't know. Shannon, are you watching it? I'm watching it right now. She's hitting it like it's bad. mitten or something like she's not even she swings and misses the first time drops the ball hits her foot picks it back up and then like just barely lobs it over the net does it look like she's ever played no and she's in a pro tennis tournament so you need to see the video
Starting point is 00:26:17 anybody in there apparently what it's it's yeah i want to know how she got in do you think they just like somebody didn't show up and they were just like anybody here want to play and she stepped in hold her hand up she held her hand up hey you over there grab this racket i got a racket i'll play It's an unbelievable video. Who's next? Dan. Dan, go ahead, Dan. Matt, give me some context.
Starting point is 00:26:39 I'm a retired minister, and I'm a big-time listener, have agreed with you most everything you've said through the years. But there's this thing, and your mom's going to seminary, it's called cultural context. We interpret the Bible. We use cultural context. I think you and many of our fans are missing the context here. we keep talking about this $22 million, but somebody do a percentage of the minutes
Starting point is 00:27:06 for the players who are getting the most money, and particularly those that haven't played Harley all year. Yeah, that's a totally fair point. That's a totally fair point, sir, but that's partially still, though, about what you decide to do. I mean, there are some people who've made the argument. You shouldn't be paying your ninth, tenth, tenth, 11th and 12th man as much money because you're not using them and you should have used that more
Starting point is 00:27:33 on the top eight. You see what I'm saying? Yeah, but that's easy to say now, Matt. It is. You're right. It is. I mean, Quayton's last night. My goodness, I was right under the basket when he had a chance to grab the ball. Twice he had the ball taken away from him. He's not in game shape and they're just not being able to play together. I just think every, Everybody is trashing him. Matter of fact, one of your writers even referred, Jack, who I love, referred to some of the players might even be mercenaries because they're taking the money. And I just think we're getting into character issues. Yeah, I don't like that.
Starting point is 00:28:10 I agree with that. You don't want to get into character. I agree with that. Yeah, we're so jumping on him right now that he deserves a chance. He deserves the benefit of the doubt. And I was coming back in the game last night, listen to the show. when you say things like, you know, Mark does not understand the kid. He doesn't understand what he's doing.
Starting point is 00:28:30 I mean, honestly, Matt, he knows more in his little finger than you and I will ever know about that. Of course, but I mean, I want to use your phrase cultural context, okay? Does he know more than you and I? Yes. But that's ultimately not the question. The question is, does he know more in the game than Dennis Gates, who he's playing? How does he match up with his? Did he record is the first three years?
Starting point is 00:28:54 Dennis Gates's first year. Let me take up for Dennis Gates. Dennis Gates' record his first year was one in 17, and he just came in and got Missouri's first win ever in Rupp Arena. That's an amazing turnaround. Well, that wasn't his – I don't believe that was his first record of Missouri. His first three years were 55 and 46. Nate Oates for the first year was 61 and 36, first three years.
Starting point is 00:29:21 We've got to give this guy a benefit of the doubt and get him through the season. He'll have to suffer the consequences. It's a fair point. Totally fair point. But again, the comparison is not me and Mark Pope. It's Mark Pope and Nate Oates. We'll take a break and be right back. KSR.
Starting point is 00:29:36 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. So I think we would all agree thrillers number one. Got to be. Is November rain number two? Smells like teen spirit.
Starting point is 00:29:53 I could go with smells. like scene spirit either one either one or i could go with november rate i think they're two three in one order do you agree shannon probably so yeah and i think i could go a lot of different ways of four or five some other suggestions tom petty don't come around here no more with the uh because that was wasn't that the alison wonderland one oh yes it was yeah that was i think a really good one um i think madonna's got to be on the top five corn with the bullet you know shannon was the bullet one. Freak on a leash.
Starting point is 00:30:26 And then share on the battleship. Yes. Right? Yeah. That's pretty high. Turn back time. That's an iconic one. I think it's tough after the top three.
Starting point is 00:30:36 I think those are a very solid top three. I agree with you. Madonna's got to be on it. But which one of Madonna's is like the most iconic? Is it like a prayer? Like, excuse me, like a virgin? You know, there were so many that, you know, MTV would count down to the debut of her or Michael Jackson's video.
Starting point is 00:30:53 You have to, you know, 24-hour count. down. Yeah, I don't know. I feel like those three, I think, are also solid. But then after that, I don't know. Okay. So now, if you don't want to hear this, turn it off for three minutes and then you can come back on.
Starting point is 00:31:07 I do want to talk just one second about what happened in Minnesota because it's, I think, a really sad tragedy. And I hate the way we talk about this stuff now. I posted last night a couple times, one of which I took down. because even I didn't like my own tone about it. But, you know, you watch, we've all seen the video. We don't really know what happened before or after it, but we've seen the video. It's awful.
Starting point is 00:31:37 It's a tragedy. And I wish that everybody who had a take on it, and there are a lot of takes to have, would just acknowledge that to start with. It's an absolute tragedy. Somebody died, and I don't think it was necessary. Whatever else you want to say about it, it wasn't necessary. she should not have pulled like she should have stopped there was no reason for her to drive it but she also didn't need to be killed in my opinion both those things can be true right you can say
Starting point is 00:32:06 that she made a mistake in driving but you also can say i don't know did he did she need to be killed you can also say that both people involved made mistakes but that also doesn't necessarily mean they're the worst person in the world right Like, I think it's an absolute shame that there were leaders of our government out there calling her a domestic terrorist. You don't know this woman. 30 minutes after it's over, the Department of Homeland Security leader is out there calling her a domestic terrorist. Shame on you. You don't know her.
Starting point is 00:32:38 Now, maybe I don't know her. Maybe something, I don't know. But, like, maybe it's just a woman who made a mistake. She was protesting. She, like, parks in the middle of the road, and maybe in the heat of a second, she makes a mistake and moves her car when she should. It doesn't make her a terrorist. Like, come on, have some sympathy. I give credit.
Starting point is 00:32:57 I actually saw some members of government not doing that, including the Tom, the borders are, who I've never really liked. He actually said, I don't want to say anything because I don't know enough about it. Good for you. That's the kind of thing you should say, right? Also, though, the cop. You know, my side is very quick often to indict these people, the ICE guy. I think these ICE people need more training.
Starting point is 00:33:20 I've talked to people that say they're putting some people. in these ice rolls real quickly that don't have the training for it. I talked to some people in law enforcement yesterday who said they teach law enforcement. Don't ever come from the front for that very reason. For that very reason. But you know what? He might have gotten scared and in the moment did something really stupid. Or that he regrets.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Or maybe he didn't. I don't know him. But you know what? Nobody else does either. So I would just say, now from a legal perspective, I posted a thread about how it will be in terms of, interpreted legally. Read it. A lot of people argued with it, and I was like, look, you may not agree with it, but this is the legal question. The standard and the Supreme Court just changed this
Starting point is 00:34:02 last year. The standard is, was it necessary and reasonable in the moment objectively? Doesn't matter what the officer himself think it's objectively. Now, you can watch that video, and you can have different conclusions. You can think it was reasonable or not based on your own conclusion, but that's the legal standard. And each shot has to be legal. Meaning, so I watched the video. In the first shot, I could see how he thought he was going to be hit. Do you need to kill the person?
Starting point is 00:34:34 I don't think so. But I'm not an officer. I can't say that. I don't deal with that on a day-to-day basis, you know. But then the second and third one from the side, I think it's a lot harder argument for him then. They're already driving away. But it also happens in a millisecond, right?
Starting point is 00:34:53 So I can't have a powerful strong force. I see people online, they're like, he's a murderer. She's a terrorist. We've got to decide what kind of country we want to live in. Do we want to live in a country where we just immediately see something and just decide that the other person is just awful? Or do we want to say that is an awful thing that happened? And there's a kid out there that doesn't have a mother, and there's this video, and it's awful.
Starting point is 00:35:24 And we just go, can we just take a step back and say, do we want to do this for the next 50 years? Just go at each other all the time? Or can we go, man, that's unfortunate or bad. How do we stop things like this from happening in the future? That's just my take on it. And I felt like I wanted to say it. Well said. Did a good job.
Starting point is 00:35:45 From a legal perspective, now just strictly law. He's a federal agent. If the state were to decide to charge him, and I have no idea if they would, it would get removed to federal court. So it would not be in state court. It would be in federal court. The standard would be, was it necessary and appropriate? Also, you have the situation where the president, people say, can the president pardon him? No, it would be a state case.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Murder's a state case. But it would be in federal court, and there's a legal standard. There's an opinion. The Supreme Court just released last year. about this very issue, a conservative Supreme Court that actually made it used to be cops, federal agents could avoid being charged ever in state court. Now that's not true anymore. Sometimes again, people see the Supreme Court, they go, well, they're conservative. They actually made it easier for officers to be charged last year. I think in the end he won't get charged,
Starting point is 00:36:40 or if he does, it'll get dismissed for a variety of reasons that if you ever see me offline, I can talk about. But it still is a tragedy, and our leadership, shouldn't get up and call the dead woman a terrorist when she just got murdered. I just, that's my take on it. But I'm also not going to say that the ICE agent, that it was crazy to do it because, I mean, he probably was scared too. The reality is ask anybody in law enforcement who's dealing with ICE, they'll all tell you the same thing.
Starting point is 00:37:07 These people are not trained enough. They're putting these people on the job after two or three months, and they're not trained enough. And I had a friend say to me recently, he predicted this. He said, this is going to happen. These people are not trained enough. And I think you saw that yesterday. How can you give somebody a gun and put them in that position if they're not trained properly?
Starting point is 00:37:28 Because I think the government has said, we got to do this immediately. We've got to do this immediately. And they've just put – now, this guy may be somebody who's been in office for a long – or so I don't know. I don't know about this person. Yeah. But, I mean, I think every police officer listening will tell you, they tell you, do not get in front of a car that's moving or that could be moving.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Approach from the side. think about when you've been pulled over do they approach you from the front no they approach you from the back or the side yep and ice has a internal policy don't fire it moving cars unless you think you're going to be run over and then you can determine from the video
Starting point is 00:38:02 whether that was a reasonable thought I think you could see it either way depending on how you look at was there another weapon involved with the driver today that I've not heard there was but again I don't know but I've not heard there was she was blocking the road
Starting point is 00:38:15 from what I understand. It is sad. 859-280-20287. Now you can turn your radios back on. Who's up next? Let's go to Donnie. Donnie. Go ahead, Donnie. Hey, Matt, thanks for
Starting point is 00:38:29 taking my call. And the shooting in Minnesota, you're right on. I mean, you're just dead on everything you said. Getting back to the basketball team, there's a number of issues, problems. To me, as a fan,
Starting point is 00:38:51 the main issue with this team is we don't have the players to go deep. When this team was constructed, I don't know. Someone should have said, who's going to score? We don't have the players that can score.
Starting point is 00:39:13 I think they thought they did. I mean, they thought they did. did. They clearly don't, but they thought they did. I mean, remember Pope would talk about how well they shot in practice and all that? He's clearly abandoned that, by the way. They don't even try to set up for threes anymore. So, you know, Matt, you, yeah, it's constructed mainly, not all of them, mainly of role players. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:39 You just can't win at this level with role players. You've got to have somebody that can score the basket, and you can go from one to ever how many down the lineup, and there's just no one other than no way that can score, really. Well, I think Lowe can score, but I appreciate the call. How many people on the team do you think you would classify as a scorer? Two? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:09 If you're being generous, too, I think always a scorer. I don't think he's the greatest shot creator, but he's also shooting 63% on layups. Yes. And he was your best three-point shooter last couple games. He did make a couple big ones. He did. Kim Williams, I think, is a good shooter when you get him open.
Starting point is 00:40:25 Yeah. I thought Colin Chandler and Trent Noah were good shooters. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. They haven't been this year. I think you're right. I think this staff thought they had Williams-Noa Chandler, top-level three-point shooters, and then right below would be O.A., Aberdeenian, and Low.
Starting point is 00:40:40 I think they thought those guys would still be good enough three-point shooters to carry you. Did you hear Dane Bradshaw said Kentucky has the worst efficiency split between playing good teams and bad teams than any team in the country? I'm not shocked. It doesn't surprise me. That's one of those things that the analytics also are how you feel. You know, it feels like we play so different when we play somebody good versus somebody bad. So look, here's the question I need to ask you.
Starting point is 00:41:09 Are we just not very good? Yeah, we're not very good. I mean, is it bottom line? I think the bottom line is we're not very good. Yeah, I think it is. I don't think we're very good. And the question that remains is, are we not very good eight seed, seven seed,
Starting point is 00:41:32 10 seed, or are we not very good missed the tournament? That's kind of what's left to be. If you had to predict right now, do we make the tournament, what seed are we if we make the tournament? If I had to predict right now, we're on the bubble all year, and we play in the first four because we're Kentucky and we play in Dayton. I can get behind that.
Starting point is 00:41:55 I've always wanted to go up there. I think that could be fun. That would be good for you? I could definitely get behind that. Go up to Dayton. That would be my prediction. If I had to predict right now, that would be my prediction.
Starting point is 00:42:08 We're kind of on the bubble all year and then we get in at like 19 and 13, win one game in the SEC tournament, lose the next one. We're 19 and 13, they put us in in Dayton, and we play, like, Utah State. Are you on, like, that 11 line, like the play-end game? And then you're on the 11 line,
Starting point is 00:42:29 and then you'd have to go play a 6 or something in the next round. But first, you'd have to win in Dayton. That's my prediction. I'm going to write that down as my prediction. Ring in the New Year with a new ride at Don Franklin. She was from thousands of new and certified free-owned vehicles. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on.
Starting point is 00:45:26 Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs, Gabby Thomas, and Katie Ledecky. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win. more gold medals. Starting point is 00:47:08 8992-28027. Text machine 772-7524. Thank you, a lot of people writing in for the most part, good comments on the thing. By the way, I also, I like to hear in these situations from, like, law enforcement officials because I always think they have an interesting perspective. I think a lot of people, again, on my side of the aisle,
Starting point is 00:47:29 just tend to look at them as in the enemy. I think that's a huge mistake. And a lot of times, especially under anonymity, a lot of those folks will tell you, you know what? Like, nobody understands if they don't do this job, but they will also say privately, Sometimes people mess up, too. Like, that's just how it is.
Starting point is 00:47:47 And so I like when people have a reasonable conversation about it. One person wrote me and said, that's it. I'm done with you. I'm not listening anymore. I warned him, Shannon. I did say you have a, I did warn him. You warned him. He's listened.
Starting point is 00:48:03 He probably wanted to hear it anyway. Probably. Yes. Draft Kings tonight, Miami and Ole Miss. Go to draftkings.com program code, user code KSR, bet five went $200. It is the Fiesta Bowl. There's a guy named Barstool Mincy.
Starting point is 00:48:20 Do you know who that is? That's our new quarterback, isn't it? Minchie. His first name's not Barstall, though. His first name is kidding. Barstle Mincy is a – he's a Barstool guy. He's an Old Miss fan. He was supposed to be on this show.
Starting point is 00:48:34 I asked him to come on this show for the Kentucky Old Miss game last year, and he asked me how much I was going to pay him, and I was like nothing. But he – they've been following. him on the way to the game. It's been very funny, so I've been watching that. But Miami and Ole Miss, Miami's a three and a half point favorite. Who you got? Miami's came in as what, the 10 seed. They kind of may have been on this glorious run. I didn't think Old Miss is going to be Georgia, so I'm going to go with Miami. Carson Beck and Miami going to the finals. Shannon? You know, I'm pulling for
Starting point is 00:49:03 Ole Miss. They don't have a head coach. I hope that they make it to the championship at least. So I'm going to say Ole Miss wins it tonight. Give me Old Miss. I'm with Shannon. Give me Old Miss. If you're giving me three and a half point, So I'm getting the points And I don't Miami obviously won a big game Against Texas A&M But they haven't been great
Starting point is 00:49:22 I mean Louisville beat them Yeah right So I'm going to go with Ole Miss I think they I think they go I go with Ole Miss And I think the winner of the Indiana Oregon game Is the national champ I just really hope that Michael Irvin's there tonight
Starting point is 00:49:36 And I hope he somehow they can show him on during the game You don't like when they show Michael Irvin Well I didn't even know if he was there last game Did they show him? him and Ray Lewis? You don't like that? Michael Irvin gets way into the game. I mean, I thought you would like that.
Starting point is 00:49:50 I thought you would like a fan that is that passionate. Wouldn't you like, like if Kentucky's playing in the national championship game, wouldn't you like to see DeMarcus Cousins and Tashon Prince having that kind of emotion? I actually would. Yeah, exactly. Like they care. Doesn't that matter? I think it does matter.
Starting point is 00:50:09 Yes. Especially Michael Urban. I like Michael Irvin's. I mean, he's clearly. like mugging for the camera. Like, I mean, clearly. Yeah. But I also like, like, a dude that's a fan on his knees, like, Shannon, I do kind of like it.
Starting point is 00:50:21 Do you not? That's all right. Michael Lurvin's a little bit over the top. Yeah. Maybe you have something to do with that booger sugar that Ryan was talking about earlier. He has a past. Oh, sugar booger. All right.
Starting point is 00:50:33 Who's next? Josh. But you're both taking Old Miss to cover. I don't know if they win, but I think it's going to be a very close game. Josh, go ahead. First time caller. Who are? So my question is, do you think that it is a combination of recruiting from Mark Pope that we can't really get players into the basketball team or the JMI NIL bill?
Starting point is 00:51:01 Well, I mean, that's a very complicated thing that we've talked about a bunch. I think I said, and I'm going to keep doing this, I want to learn a little bit more about it before I comment. I think whichever one it is, I think it's probably always going to be a combination of a lot of things, but they don't have players for next year, and it's a big deal. And so, but as to what I would put the primary blame on, I want to, I should know more about how it works in the next 10 days, and I want to know that before I comment. I need to, like, follow the advice I gave earlier and learn a little bit more. I mean, there's the KSR website report out there.
Starting point is 00:51:39 I think the report was correct. But I also think it's important. I'm going to try to learn. Before I take a strong stand, I want to know a little bit more about it. But I have thoughts, but just give me a little bit. So my concern is, why are we seeing to be getting good football recruits with the same JMI restrictions on football? Because football and basketball are very different.
Starting point is 00:52:05 Because the short answer would be football, we have 16 to 18. $18 million of RevShare to give away, and the vast majority of our players, the vast majority of our football players can be paid with that. So we don't need to dip into the quote-unquote NIL pool very much. Our basketball team, RevShare, is between $3 to $4 to $5 million. That's like one and a half players. So the NIL is a huge, it's a much larger percentage of your basketball roster. than your football roster.
Starting point is 00:52:43 Does that make sense? Yep, sure does. Appreciate the call. So Will Stein can just use the football refshare and get the vast majority of his players. They have to dip into the NIL for basketball, and that's why the NIL matters a lot more in basketball. Makes sense.
Starting point is 00:52:58 See again, if I explain it to you, you explain to the common man. That's right. Thank you very much for coming out. Tomorrow we're at Cornbread, Hemp, and Louisville. We'll see you later. It's been KSR. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guide,
