Let's talk a little football for a second.
Will Stein plays tonight against Indiana.
Are you all, are we quacking?
Are you for the ducks?
I mean, we don't...
Indiana is a great story, but it's still Indiana.
I can't root for Indiana to win a national championship.
I think that would hurt me if Indiana
wins the national championship. They're fun to watch. They're a great story, but I cannot root for
Indiana to win the national championship. What about you? All my family and friends are pounding
that chest. They've never been Indiana football fans in their life. Now all of a sudden,
they're all Indiana football fans. But you know, you take that name off the jersey. They ran Ohio State.
They ran Alabama. They won at Oregon. No, they're good. Look, they're legit. I think,
you know, they played Oregon up that beat them on the road. At Oregon. You know, they're clearly,
good. Signetti is like
smug, so smug.
Oh, yeah. Well, but he did say
Google me and everybody
mocked him and like now his
Google was even better than it was before.
I mean,
you know, I think it's the best
coaching performance. I think you can
make a strong argument as the best coaching
performance in the history of college football.
Yeah.
And the argument is
before he got there, they've been
awful for 50 years. He
turned them around in two years.
And at a time where people are stockpiling talent on NIL, he didn't even do that,
and they still won.
I mean, they got some guys, but most of his players came from James Madison.
Like, he just brought a group of kids from James Madison, moved to the Big Ten, made the
playoffs, and then in the next year has a shot at the national championship.
It is an amazing story.
He's smug.
He looks like an evil genius over.
on the sideline.
I kind of like, oh, man.
But you'd want him on your side.
I would.
And I'm conflicted here because it would be nice to have a coach coming in who just
won a national title.
But I look at Indiana, and I think Kentucky football, because I think if Indiana can do this,
Kentucky can do this.
So I'm kind of torn on who to cheer for tonight.
Indiana, the rev share world.
Because, you know, it's very complicated.
And we're at a live show, and I don't want to.
bore people, but I've spent a lot of time thinking about the RevShare NIL world and like looking
at it from a legal perspective and also looking at it from a business perspective. There has never
been a moment in the history of Kentucky football except maybe in the 50s where Kentucky's got a better
chance to be good than now. You know, NIL in basketball, it's a little different. Basketball in
in NIL, I think you're going to see halves and have-nots separate quite a bit. But in football,
because every team is getting $17 million, every team, you got a better chance to be a bad
program and be good than in history. Go find you a good quarterback and then spend the rest
that money and just get good players around them. You can be Indiana. You can be Indiana.
So I find Indiana kind of inspiring.
But in tonight's game, we got Will Stein on the other side.
And I see it as like a win-win.
Because if Will Stein wins, then we're going to be able to say,
we have the coach of the offensive coordinator of a potential national championship.
If Will Stein loses, he can get his ass back to Lexington and finish this roster out.
It's a good way of looking at it.
Because part of the problem is we got a bunch of commitments right at the beginning,
and now he's not here, and it's becoming a little harder.
So I kind of see it as a win-win, right?
Whatever happens tonight, we can spin to make good for us.
There's no doubt it's a win-win.
If they do win and get to the national championship game,
and if they win the national championship game,
we probably should feel lucky.
We got him when we did,
because other teams will probably be coming after him hard.
Well, whether he wins or loses,
I've been told he's in my – this game is in Atlanta.
Atlanta, right, Peach Bowl.
Whether they win or lose,
I'm told he's coming to Lexington for –
like they got a lot of people coming here Saturday.
that he'll be in Lexington Saturday, win or lose.
And then Sunday goes to Miami, or excuse me,
I think he'd be here Saturday and Sunday,
and then Monday goes to Miami to start the prep for the national championship if they win.
So this weekend coming up, as you're watching for UK,
I mean, this is a big sports weekend at UK.
You've got UK basketball against Mississippi State.
The women, they lost last night.
They did.
Not a good performance.
But they play Oklahoma a five versus six Sunday in Memorial Coliseum.
I don't know if people realize.
how big that game is. It's in Lexington, Sunday in Memorial Coliseum.
But it also is a football recruiting weekend.
They got a ton of guys coming this weekend.
And Will Stein will be here either for good or for a couple days before the national team.
I love to have a camera crew following him around.
Does anybody have a busier schedule than Will Stein having to try to balance being the O.C.
at Oregon and head coach here in Kentucky?
Did you hear him talk about?
Did you hear it?
He did, I think WDRB went down to the Beach Bowl.
and they interviewed him specifically to talk about what he was doing.
And it was interesting.
He said that when he was in Lexington, that was his full thing
because the team was taking a break.
Then when he went to Oregon, he was like,
I spend all of my day preparing for this,
except I have a set block of time that I deal with the Kentucky stuff.
And he said, I take that block out of time out of sleep.
Got to find it somewhere.
So he didn't say how many hours you're sleeping, but he was like,
I have a routine schedule and it includes this much sleep.
It now has like an hour and a half less because I do the UK stuff during that.
It's amazing.
He's able to do this.
Get this team ready to play in the semifinal of the National Championship Football Series,
and yet you're still got to rebuild your whole brand new team as a brand new head coach for the first time,
thousands of miles away in Kentucky.
Meanwhile, if I'm Oregon, I'm going, wait a minute,
we're about to play for a national championship game.
You're in Lexington this weekend.
Let me tell you one thing I am impressed about with this new regime.
I mean, I don't know Will Stein at all.
We had him on the show.
I've never talked to him besides that.
We've talked to his mom, gave some great cakes.
Ryan ate them all, but otherwise it was fine.
I'm probably going to go by there today just so I can actually eat the cake
that you're supposed to be given to me.
But here's what I can tell you about the way they're organized.
It is, and this is, I think, a positive.
This is not a criticism.
It is a top-down organization.
What I mean by that is I wanted to bring on either the OC,
the defensive coordinator, or the head of recruiting.
I wanted to bring him on to debt because I was like, look, let's get some football news.
I talked to the UK people.
They said, Will Stein has said, until I'm there, no interviews with anybody.
I want to get there.
We all need to be on the same page talking on the same message.
I respect that, actually.
I think that's good.
I mean, I think it's good to kind of, you know, the whole staff hasn't even been together yet.
I think it's good to do that, and even though I'd love to have one of them on, Ryan, I actually think it shows organization.
I am really, really, really, really impressed by this group's organization.
We talk about analytics.
They are taking every player, and they are taking every player on the UK roster and every player in the portal,
and they are assigning them a value.
and they are saying
Ryan Lemon is a
$225,000 player
and I'm
going to offer him $225,000.
Now I'm not going to tell him he's a $225,000
player. Maybe I'll offer him
200 and hope he signs for less
than his offer. And maybe
I'll agree to give him
$250. But if he comes in here
and asks for $300,000,
I'm going to say no, and if he
doesn't like it, okay.
Go to the next guy.
That's the way it goes.
And Kirk Herb Street last night, I don't know if any of you watched the post game to the game.
Kirk Herb Street was advocating for just that system.
He said, I want you to look at the four teams that are playing in the semifinals.
All four of them looked at guys who wanted more money than they would pay and said, buy.
And he was like, that's what you have to do.
And from what I've talked to with people at Will Stein's program, Ryan, I think that's what they're doing.
When he spent the weekend here two weekends ago, they were very successful,
I think, in that getting the guys they wanted to get and go after.
If you're telling me this is another big weekend, he's got a lot of guys coming in.
I expect we'll probably get a lot of commitments first and next week.
And so when you've seen some guys leave Kentucky and you wonder why, that's the answer.
They evaluate them as being worth X amount and they wanted more.
So take Hardly Gilmore.
I think UK wanted Harley Gilmore.
but they thought hardly Gilmore was worth an amount of money and Louisville decided we're going to give him more than that money and they said you know what we like your hardly Gilmore but we can go find a fool Gilmore not a hardly Gilmore and we can pay them the same amount of money and Shannon I think that's why he ends up at Louisville I wonder though if you'd be willing to negotiate more with a top tier player like at best of the best of guy that they really really want I mean they answered I was told by some of the
that would know, we will overpay for studs because you win with studs.
And I think that's what they'll do.
I think they will overpay for a quarterback.
I think they probably paid a lot of money for that center from Baylor.
They're like, you've got to have a center that's really good.
I think they probably will overpay for a receiver or something like that.
But they're like, and I think maybe Todd Bryant did really well, just from what I'm hearing.
I bet Willie Rodriguez did pretty well.
But I think they're like, we'll pay for five or six studs.
But the rest of everybody, we got to get value.
And I actually think we're in Kentucky, that's the way you do it.
So I don't know enough about it.
Do the other like high profile, high powerful teams, is that how they approach it?
They kind of go out and spend on a great receiver, a great running back.
So I think that's a good question.
So like Ohio State has the money.
They can pay for everybody.
Okay.
So that's what they're doing.
So Ohio State's going to pay for everybody.
but other schools like us
Louisville what they're doing is
they're paying for like
15 guys or 17
and then the rest of the team's going to be
whatever whatever
and maybe that works as long as you don't have injuries
or you don't get any butt
by the way that's what Mark Stoops did
Mark Stoops did that
we paid last year probably
we paid our starting lineup
quite a bit of money
and some of those starting line up
ended up not even being in the starting line because they weren't good.
Correct.
And our second string did not, we were not deep, and you saw the result.
So this philosophy of going out and get the studs.
I think the idea is, there's two different philosophies.
Pay six guys a lot and pay 45 guys market value.
The second philosophy would be pay 17 guys a lot and then just fill the rest of roster
with whatever.
I'd rather have six really good players.
I think that's the way they look at.
I think the way they look at it is.
Give me a great quarterback.
Give me a great receiver.
Give me a couple great offensive linemen.
Give me a great edge rusher and maybe a great guy in the secondary.
And let's roll.
Let's go.
And I think that's kind of what they're doing.
And we'll see if it works.
But I think that.
But according to Kirk Herb Street, that's kind of what these teams that were playing in the national championship are doing.
So it seems like a good.
Yeah.
Load up on your best players.
and let the market.
Let it see what happened.
Who's up next?
Bruce is up next.
Bruce, go ahead, Bruce.
I have a rumor control question
and then a music video you guys forgot.
A rumor control question is,
does the JMI NIL deals,
does it guarantee certain players,
basketball players specifically guaranteed minutes?
That's why our lineups have been different.
No.
I've not heard of any deal guaranteeing anyone any minutes,
and I would be shocked if that existed.
I don't think that happens.
Okay, and then the music video,
you guys forgot to add to your list yesterday.
You remember when Dave Fleming was in that video with Laura Bell Bundy
and he was loading the drinks up in the back of the truck?
That's not very nice.
That's not very nice.
That was a good music video.
I was a good actor.
Yep.
I loaded a cooler into a truck.
to a hooler into a truck and uh it was it was a lot of people still talk about it so that was way back
early in the ksr day that was uh laura bell bundy a friend of mine and she put me in the video and
i she wanted me to ride a horse and i was like i don't think that's a good idea uh because i'm
too tall for a horse you ever been on a horse uh well i got up there and like they kind of
but she wanted me to like gallop she wanted you
to gallop or the horse.
Yeah.
Well, I guess it would have been the horse galloping.
Yeah.
And I was like, I don't want to do that.
That's not for me.
You don't want to get thrown from one.
Here then, take this cooler and put it in the back of the truck.
Yeah, so then they got me the real work.
Here's the next manliest thing we can do.
Pick this cooler up and put it in the back of a pickup truck.
And I think I did that very well, don't you?
Yeah, very well.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Oh, come on, you can do better than that. Welcome back. There we go.
There we go. Here at Cornbread Hemp in Louisville. 8.59-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, do you think we've missed out on players by Will Stein having to play for Oregon?
Yes, I think we have, but that's part of the deal. I mean, that's when you hire the guy, you know that that may end up happening.
But yes, I do think that has, we've lost a couple probably because of that. But that's part of the
I'm okay with that because let's play this out.
Let's say however many years from now, Kentucky is in the playoffs and he's about to go to another school.
You know that you have somebody that's loyal enough to stay there and finish out the season.
That's true.
Unlike what Lane Kiff did.
Unlike what happened with Lane Kiffin.
You think Lane Kiffin breed the big sigh of relief last night when Ole Miss didn't win without him?
He lost $250,000, but he also, I mean, it would have been a bad sign if they were able to win without him.
It's true, yeah.
I think I would have rather than win and take the $250,000, though, for free and get a ring.
I kind of secretly think he was kind of hoping they would lose.
He could make him not look so bad because if they were winning without him,
he wants to be the savior.
He wants to be the guy.
They already beat Georgia without him.
Yeah, I mean, they beat Georgia without him.
So I don't know.
I think he probably wanted them to lose deep down.
He would never say it, but I think he did.
NFL playoffs.
Let's make some draft king's picks.
Go to draft kings, use a promo code KSR, make your draft Kings bet.
Bet five win $300 in bonus bets.
Let's go through them.
Six games.
Rams at Panthers.
Who you got?
I think the Rams win this one.
I'm going to Panthers.
Really?
They've been surprising people this year.
Yeah.
By the way, this is the only time I can ever remember in the playoffs, six games.
I think in any game, anyone could win.
I don't think that's ever been like that before, but I do think it is this week.
I'm going to take the Rams.
to win, although they do go to the East Coast.
It's a relatively early game, et cetera.
Saturday night, that's Bears Packers.
You know who I'm going to pick, but this is huge for both you and I.
It is.
During the Kentucky game.
I know, right?
So what are you going to do?
You're going to watch it?
I'll probably watch Bears Packers on my iPad and watch Kentucky on TV, but go ahead.
Packers are struggling.
They've got a lot of injuries.
Jordan Love is back, though.
I'm going to say the Packers win.
I can't pick against the Packers.
I know you got the Bears.
I kind of think the Packers are going to win, but I'm going to pick the Bears,
just because I'm not going to pick against my team, but I'm worried about it.
What about you?
Man, the last time they played, I still don't know how the Bears won that game.
That was an exciting, fun finish to that game when the Packers and Bears play each to win in overtime.
It's in Chicago.
But we haven't beaten the Packers ever three times in a year.
Really?
Because we've never beaten them in the playoffs.
We've only played them twice.
We've only played the Pack.
Think about that.
We've only played them twice in the history of the NFL.
So we've never beaten them three times.
We would have to do that.
I'm taking the Bears. Bears at home.
Bill's Jaguars in Jacksonville.
Who you got? Liam Cohen.
Yeah.
Liam Cohen and Josh Allen.
Yep. It'll be tough on the road for Buffalo, but I'm still going with the Bills.
Battle of the Josh Allen's.
I can't believe Jacksonville's done as well as they have.
Buffalo's still to me a team to beat. I'm going to Buffalo.
I'm going to take Buffalo, but, you know, they keep winning.
They do.
I mean, they keep winning. 49ers Eagles.
I hate the Eagles, but I think at home they're just too good at home.
I'm going to go with Philadelphia.
Both teams kind of under a chance.
achieved this year, I think, but the 49ers need to be kind of found themselves here lately.
49ers been hurt all year.
Like, they, did you see the conspiracy theory about that?
No.
Their practice facility is next to, like, a power station.
And there are people online who think the power station causes their players to get hurt more
because of, like, radio electrical.
I'm serious.
I like a good conspiracy theory.
Go read this.
The 49ers fans are buying it.
Like they were, because they've had like a disproportionate amount of guys get injured in practice.
I'm just telling you, I don't believe it, but I'm telling you it's out there.
Anyway, who you got?
Who is the team?
49ers and Eagles.
Oh, I already said.
I already picked the Eagles.
All right, I'll take the Eagles since they are at home.
The Sunday night game, Chargers at Patriot.
Patriots have had a great season, surprisingly.
I think they keep it rolling.
I think they win.
I'm with the Patriot's all.
They had a great year.
Drake May's done great things.
I'm going to take the Chargers to win on the road.
It's my Matt Jones' upsets pick of the week.
And then finally, Steelers, Texans, Monday night football.
It's going to be a good one.
Aaron Rogers got him to the playoffs.
I think he at least wins one game.
Texas has got the best defense.
I'll take Houston.
I can't believe they beat the Ravens' other last weekend, so I'm going Texan.
By the way, we found out yesterday we got official word.
We're going to the Super Bowl.
Mario and Billy back there very excited.
I talked to men to letting us stay until Sunday, but we do have to fly out
before the game.
I'll like going to send you there but not let you watch the game.
So we're going to be there Tuesday through Sunday, probably watch this game on the flight
back.
Is there at least a good party on Saturday night?
Well, that's what I was going to say.
Okay.
They don't know this yet.
But we have a listener to this show.
I am amazed at the listeners to this show.
I got invited and I didn't end up going because I just, it's too many people.
But I got invited to go to the show.
the official New Year's Eve ball drop in Times Square because the person in charge listens to this show.
It is from Kentucky.
We got an invite for the four of us.
The person who is in charge of throwing Shaq's party on Friday night and the Sports Illustrated party on Saturday night has invited us and given us VIP status for both events.
Listener to this show from Kentucky.
That is awesome.
So you four are going to be VIP at a Sports Illustrated party?
That Sports Illustrated party, I've seen it before.
That is the party.
Like, that's the one you'll see, like, Tom Brady making out with Alex Earl.
So you might see Mario with, like, Tate McCray or something.
He's going to be like, a Papparazzi over there with this camera.
They're going to be like, who's this guy?
And Billy, you talk about a dude who's going to be awkward during it.
Like, what are you going to wear, Billy, to the sports illustrated party?
He's got a pair of cock.
What?
You're going to be past stress.
Better than Mario?
I don't know.
Mario's a sharp dresser.
I'm looking forward to seeing that.
These two have already got a robbery going on.
I want to see if they can, like, you know, want up each other on the dress.
So we are excited.
We found out we'll be doing our podcast from, we will be doing our podcast on the NFL network studio.
Oh, from Press Row.
They have two studios, one for TV and one for radio and pocket.
And we're going to, we're going to be there.
It's very exciting.
I want to do our show here there, but we can't because it's in California, so it's 7 a.m.
And it won't have opened yet.
So it doesn't open until we can do it.
Well, Ryan and I will be living vicariously through you guys there at the Sports Illustrated.
We're looking at Mario's Instagram to see what inspirational quote he's going to give us from the Super Bowl party.
The Shack party, by the way, is like an electric music party.
I hate that kind of music with a passion.
So I don't know how long I will stay at that one.
but I will at least go.
Don't forget your clubbing shirt.
Oh, the clubbing shirt's getting worn every night.
We'll take a break and be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio, here live at Cornbread Hemp,
where they have their manufacturing facility.
You can get a tour of this first of its kind in America.
You can just come by and see it.
It's state-of-the-art production facility, USDA organic hemp products.
You can learn more at cornbreadhimp.com.
We are here.
I see people all have their bags, where they got
their cornbread hemp goods.
It's always nice to be out here in Louisville
and see all the Louisville
the Kentucky fans who live in Louisville.
If you're a Louisville fan,
you now basically have Kentucky's football team
from last year.
They've signed now six guys
who played for Kentucky last year.
Kind of odd to me.
I didn't feel like we were that good.
Right.
Did you get any clap back that a couple of those guys
are Kentucky kids played a high school ball
right down the road from Lexington
and packing bags and going to Louisville?
I mean, I haven't.
Like, let them, look, I mean, these are all guys that came here to Kentucky because of Vince.
Yeah.
Right?
Like, every single guy who has signed with Louisville was a dude Vince recruited to UK.
So I'm not shocked that with Vince at Louisville, one of the things that makes Vince successful is he keeps relationships with people after they go to another school.
That's how we got one deal.
That's how we've got a lot of people over the years.
So, I mean, I'm fine.
with it. I just don't understand if you're Louisville like none of those we weren't good.
Yeah. If you're bra, I'm going, wait a minute. Those guys lost. Why do I want those guys?
A lot of those guys didn't play. And the ones that did play, we weren't good. So I'm just kind of
surprised they've taken so many of our guys. Shows their loyalty to Vince though.
Yeah. You know, he's a great recruiter. I think Vince is probably smiling, you know, put a feather in his
cap and taking these kids away from Kentucky just to bring him to Louisville.
All right. I have a question for you. You know, uh, so, you know, you know,
when players go to games, some teams have dress codes, some don't.
The NHL used to have a dress code that in order to go to a game,
you had to be wearing a blazer and tie.
And then some players complained, and now in the last three years,
this past year, excuse me, they said, okay, no more dress code.
Teams can do their own dress codes.
And there was a story that some teams are asking their players to still dress.
and some teams are letting them go rag-tag.
And they did a study.
The teams that have dressed up to go to games
are having better seasons than the teams that have no dress code.
So Ryan Lemon, let's say you're the coach
of a college football, college basketball, NHL, whatever team.
Are you making your team show up to the game in their dress?
I saw one player said,
we wear anything to practice, but we wear suits to the game because we're going to work
and it helps us be focused.
What do you think?
Yeah, I grew up in that era where even in high school.
We all wore the blazer when my dad was the coach.
To high school games.
Otwell Miller's wore the Otwell Blazer, and he still got one in his closet.
But man, in this day and age, I don't know if you can force guys that are making millions of dollars.
Well, you can.
They're doing it.
I would not be that coach.
I'd be the guy.
You say wear whatever you want.
I think this is one of the dumbest rules in sports.
Really?
Why do you have to dress up to show up to a game to put on an oversized shirt and a helmet if you're a hockey player?
And skates.
So why do you need to be wearing a blazer and tie just to walk into the arena?
I don't think it has anything to do with how you perform on the eyes.
I'm a surprise you.
Yeah?
I'm pro dress coat.
Wow.
Prodresco.
And again, this is what I wear.
Says the guy who wears a hoodie every day.
This is what I wear most of the time.
But here's the reason.
I agree with the idea that there are certain things you do that there's a professionalism involved.
I've talked about this a lot.
I don't think, like, John Federman wears a hoodie to the Senate.
Boo, dress up.
Like, that's a job where you show professional.
I don't want to see the President of the United States looking dressed like me.
I want to see the President of the United States dressed well.
Similarly, when I go to church, I've talked about it.
I don't like when ministers are up there in jeans.
I don't like it.
Now, if people in church are wearing jeans, I'm okay with that.
But like the minister, you're speaking to people, right?
Same thing.
You're walking into a game.
You are representing your franchise, the city.
Especially in the pros.
College, I don't care as much about.
But in the pros, I like it.
I hear you on the priest and on the president,
but we can't compare a president to a hockey player.
I think a Detroit Red Wing is the same as the president of the United States.
You think so?
No, probably not.
It is a little different where the head coaches, they all wear the suit and tie.
I know this is like, I think these coaches, I kind of don't like these coaches in pullovers.
It's weird.
Granted, it is weird.
Like we let baseball coaches wear uniforms, which I think is dumb.
But I kind of think the coaches, you know, he's right.
In hockey, they still wear suits.
But in basketball, now we've kind of gotten away from that.
And I kind of like the suit.
You know, Pope wears the suit if he goes to what?
he would call like, you know, an important place.
But now imagine you're playing a Pope and he's playing at your arena and he's wearing a
pullover.
Now I feel disrespected.
That's true.
You don't think my place is good enough to wear a suit.
He is saying like I'm in Starkville.
Yeah.
Exactly.
Yeah.
There is a little bit of that.
Who's next?
One more thing.
The NBA guys, it's become like a fashion show as they walk into the arena with what
they're wearing that night coming to the game.
Yeah.
On my team, I would say we, at least, whether it's suits or not, we at least don't dress
like slops.
That's what I would do.
That's what I would do.
I hope I-heart has like a dress code next week.
Radio's different.
Who's next?
Stephen is up next.
Stephen, go ahead, Stephen.
Hey, Matt, long-time listener, first-time caller.
Who are?
What's up?
Hey, I was thinking about your conversation with Ryan yesterday
and talking about the Kentucky team going six and 12,
so it got me to thinking.
This is Kentucky's 93rd year in the SEC.
So over the last 92.
seasons, how many times has Kentucky finished with a sub-500 record in competition?
That's a great question.
I have no idea.
Do you have the answer?
I do.
Okay, so 92 seasons, how many times have we had a sub-500 SEC record?
Let's take a guess before you give me the answer.
I don't know the answer.
What do you think it is, right?
I'm going to go eight.
All right, Shannon.
Ten.
So let me just go through my lifetime.
We had it in the conference.
COVID year, we, I don't even think we had a losing record the New Orleans year.
We didn't make the tournament, but I don't think we had a losing record.
We did not have it last year.
We had it the year right before we went on probation.
We had it probably Rick's first year.
No, maybe we were 500.
So I'm going to say like five.
What is it?
Three.
Three.
Wow.
Wow.
Okay. Wow.
The 66-67 season, 88, 89, and 2021.
Well, I picked two of the three.
I didn't know the 66-67.
So one more thing, Matt, before I go off.
So since the 48-49 season, Kentucky has consistently played double-digit
SEC conference games.
So since 48-49, we have won at least eight games.
So if we only win six this year, that's another record.
I don't think Mark Pope.
Oh, wow.
So wait a minute.
You're saying we've never won less than eight games.
Correct.
Since the 48, 49.
And what's amazing is we play two more games this year than we've ever played.
We play 18.
We've only done that in the last three years.
So you're telling me if we lose, if we win less than eight,
it will be the worst conference season.
in the history of UK basketball?
Correct, because we've always at least won eight games.
Wow.
I appreciate the call.
That's an amazing stat.
And it is, I mean, that's what, 7 and 11,
and that is definitely on the table.
I mean, it's not, 7 and 11 is on the tape.
That could happen.
And that would be, well, the COVID year,
we didn't play as many games.
But wait me, he's saying we did win eight games in the COVID year.
Because that's right, we played a full conference schedule.
We didn't play as many in the non-conference.
So they only won nine that year, or nine and 16.
Yeah, he may be wrong about the COVID year.
But regardless, it would be either the worst or second worst.
Now, that's a perspective right, I hadn't thought about.
And in fact, they're 0-2.
I mean, they'd have to go 7-9 from here on out to finish 7-11.
That makes you that game tomorrow, like you have.
have to win tomorrow.
Well, no, I mean, look, we haven't even really talked about that game tomorrow night.
If they lose tomorrow night seasons, I'm not going to see, it's over, but it's over.
If you lose tomorrow night with the schedule that's still to come.
Those are your two easiest games.
And you've lost twice at home to Missouri and Mississippi State.
It's not good.
Because then you've got to go on the road and get some major upsets to even offset those two losses.
Yeah, I don't even want to think about if they lose them.
depressing. No, I mean, I really don't.
Like, our pregame show,
tomorrow, by the way, starts at six.
We'll love everybody to come out. We'll be at the bar.
Yeah, come out before the game. Let's, let's eat, drink,
and be merry because for if we lose,
tomorrow we will all die. I mean, like, there is a,
if you, like, you can't,
you can't lose that game tomorrow night.
But that stat is very sobering.
It is. If we've only had a losing season
in Kentucky basketballing conference, three times,
ever one cow year Eddie Sutton and one Rupp year and this is the fourth and there were
extenuating circumstances in all those years right I mean COVID probation probation the
year after rups runs I don't know if there was an extenuating circumstance there but it
didn't work out clearly and we're staring at that possibility being in the four season
right now in the face.
Well, I don't like thinking about that.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
We're here at Cornbread Hemp.

On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,

From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.

Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki.

Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio, here live.
All right, I got a question for you all.
By the way, the caller was right.
Even in the COVID year, we won eight SEC games.
We only won one non-conference game.
Went eight and nine in the SEC and then went one and six.
seven in the non-conference.
I forgot how bad that year was.
In the non-conference, we lost to North Carolina, Kansas, Louisville, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and Richmond that year.
Who's the team we beat?
Who did we beat?
More hate.
More hate.
Oh, wow.
We still won eight conference games.
That's pretty impressive, actually.
All right.
I just saw this.
Sports Business Journal just released the 100 most watched television broadcasts of 2020.
Okay.
85 of them were NFL games.
What?
85 of the top 100 TV broadcast of 2025 were NFL games.
Let's see.
Nine were college football games.
So that means 94 of the top 100 games were either, or top 100 television events,
not even just sports, were either NFL or college football games.
So now I ask you, what were the six?
television broadcast besides football that were the most watched things in America last year.
Can you get them?
All right.
2025.
So this includes like?
It concludes anything.
I would say state of the union?
State of the union was in the, yes, that's one.
Five more.
Go, Ryan.
It's your turn.
Something with Taylor Swift.
Something with Taylor Swift?
A behind the scenes documentary.
member of behind the scenes documentary.
I don't watch real TV if it's not a sporting event,
so I don't have any idea what else was on.
There is nothing with Taylor Swift.
I'm trying to think if there's one really popular show,
but I don't think that there's one show that's popular enough
to be in the top 100.
With their finale to like a Survivor or a reality show?
Anybody want to guess these two are not doing well?
Saturday Night Live Reunion, not on the list.
That's a good guess.
Jake Paul Fight, not on the list.
What?
The Oscars is one of them.
Okay, so now that's two.
Okay.
We have four more.
What?
Stranger Things, no.
World Series Game 7 is number three.
World Series game seven.
The what Stanley Cup?
No.
Anyone else?
The Derby is one of them.
It's in this city.
How do we not get the derby?
guys, that's our state.
You have two more.
Billy's got two of the four.
Anybody?
The Grammys?
Come on.
What does this show about?
Sports.
What would it be?
The national championship game is one of them,
college basketball,
and then one more,
which would be unique to last year,
the inauguration is the other one.
Those are the six non-NFL and college.
football, the inauguration, the State of the Union, the Oscars, game seven of the World Series,
the NCAA finals, and how about the Kentucky Derby?
Nice.
People forget about the Kentucky Derby gets massive ratings.
Interesting, all of those events, even the sporting events, Derby, NCAA title game,
and World Series, no NBA games.
No NBA finals games are part of.
Now, granted, I don't think this, did the series go seven last year?
Usually, actually, it did go seven, so shockingly, that's not on there.
So, NBA doesn't move the needle.
That's interesting.
Not as much as the others.
Who's up next?
Mark is up next.
Mark, go ahead, Mark.
Hi, I got a question.
I remember some comments that about Trent Noah and,
anyway, that from the movie The Matrix, do you remember that movie very well?
I mean, I remember it exists.
I don't know how it applies to Trent Noah.
Okay.
There's a point where he goes to be evaluated by the Oracle,
and she says, you've got the gift,
but it seems like you're waiting for something.
And some of our, I don't know, it just seems like that's what's going on.
I mean, it's hard for me, Ryan, to know.
Is Trent Noah like, is he not playing well?
Does he not have confidence?
Is he not very good?
I don't honestly I really don't know the answer do you no I think it's a big mystery
he was starting when the season started he got hurt when he came back he seemed like he's never
the same but he's not even played the last three games he's not even taking his warm-up off
yeah that's what he's waiting for he's waiting for playing time but I mean to be fair he
played he played a lot in some of those early games and did not play well so I mean do you
just abandon that I mean I think he's still a good shooter I think you got to go back to
him and give him a chance
Yeah, I don't know.
I will say, if you look at the Kentucky teams through the years,
I felt like most of the years I have a pretty good handle on them.
This one baffles me.
This one baffles me.
I don't know why we're so bad.
I really don't.
You got the talent.
I know why we're not great because we don't have a lot of guys who can get their own shot and we can't shoot.
But we still shouldn't be this bad.
I mean, we shouldn't be just standing around in.
mud like we seem to do a lot of the time.
I don't understand why we're this bad.
I don't either.
And when you're struggling to shoot the basketball and shoot the three, why not give him a chance?
I don't understand how he's not played.
Why did Jasper not have one minute in the game?
You're not going to get over the Jasper with him.
I just don't understand how that you can leave him on the bench like that.
Well, that one's going, of all the things that have happened when it comes to recruiting next year,
the minutes that Jasper has not gotten, that's one I think's going to stick.
So, all right, Cats and Mississippi State, 830 tomorrow night.
Pre-game show starts at 6.
We'll be at KS. Barr.
Shannon, what do we think is going to happen?
Kentucky's going to win.
They have to win this game.
So I think that they win 83, 71.
If you're looking for an MVP, I'd like the obvious answer is O.A.
He goes for 14 or 15 every game, so I'll take O'A.
You know, Josh Hubbard is still sharpshooter from Mississippi State.
There's no way he's still there.
Yes, he is.
My goodness.
Josh Hubbard.
He's been there since the Clinton administration.
And he always does well against Kentucky.
He always has been a cat killer.
I'm a Shannon.
Kentucky wins the game.
I think it's another low-scoring game.
First one to 71 may win.
The rule of 71 back in place.
I'll go 72-68 Kentucky, and I'll take Quaiton.
Come on, man.
He's got to do something, right?
Last year, the game in Starkville was really a big game for Kentucky.
They won.
You may remember that was the famous one where Mark went into the stands afterwards
and met the Kentucky fan that was in the wheelchair and went up.
I thought it was a, that was a really cool Kentucky moment.
I'm hoping we get this vibe back.
I mean, the only positive I saw from Wednesday is that Mark Pope seemed like he was back to being himself
and not kind of the way he'd been before.
I'm going to say Kentucky wins.
I think it's going to be ugly.
I think it's going to be not fun, but I'm going to say 7570.
And Kentucky does what they didn't do against Missouri and finishes it down the stretch.
wins, at least I hope they do, because if they don't, it's not going to be good.
Thank you all very much.
