Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-2802287.
All right, I want to talk a little bit about I've announced with this made this morning.
For those of you didn't see, Kentucky Sports Radio today, there was a merger.
Wired, Cats Illustrated.
And by we, I mean KSR, the website, which I no longer own,
but I still own the name, KSR on Three Sports owns the website.
And because I own the name, when they do stuff like this,
I have to be a part of it.
I was happy to hear the news, Justin Rowland and Jeff Drummond,
who are names you probably, if you follow Kentucky,
no, they'll be joining KSR.
I have a long explanation on the website about kind of what's going to happen.
Long story short, House of Blue, which is the Cats Illustrated main place, will join KSR, but will remain separate so that they can, the people there get to have their own little community.
So there'll be the KSR community and the House of Blue community.
Justin and Jeff will work on House of Blue, but then Jeff Drummond will do baseball for Kentucky for KSR.
If you're a message board person, you can learn more about all the details there.
I wanted to give a more big picture thing
because I'm a big person about history.
Okay?
So let's just do a quick history of covering Kentucky sports.
Kat's Paws was obviously like the first major fan site.
It was print.
So I'm really starting with the internet.
All right.
So when the internet first comes online, Kentucky fans gather,
the first place Kentucky fans gather were AOL forums on America online.
Did you know that?
No, I didn't know that.
The America Online Kentucky Forum, which Jeff Drummond was one of the main people that did.
He was like 20 years old.
Wow.
And that big was like the first place on the internet where Kentucky fans gathered to talk about Kentucky.
America Online Forum.
Then a number of other small sites got created.
One was called Kentucky Sports Report.
Right.
I remember that one.
I discovered that site online.
line in like 1998 while I was at Transylvania.
There was Wildcat Faithful.
There was something called Wildcat Nation.
There was something called Alliance Sports, Kentucky.
All of these various, like, fan sites popped up.
I remember in college getting on logging in, creating my account, McGlore 52 on Kentucky Sports
Report.
And I was like, look, there's all these people talking about Kentucky.
How exciting.
I was involved with that.
You were on Kentucky Sports Report?
I gave him reports, yeah.
Wait a minute.
You gave reports to Kentucky Sports Report?
Yeah, if we had something in the newsroom at Channel 18,
we'd put it on Kentucky Sports Report because Larry Vaught got me involved with it.
I remember you being on it.
I didn't know it was because you were reporting.
You were the reports.
It would have been Kentucky Sports without you.
Yeah.
And Shannon, he added the reports.
I didn't know Ryan was a contributor.
I didn't either.
We try it so hard to get them to write for our website, but he wouldn't do it.
You guys never asked me to write.
He had already reported everything.
A lot of reports.
So all of these sites exist.
So in the late 90s, early 2000s, early 2000, it's kind of a free-for-all.
And people are creating blogs and all this.
And I go, you know what?
I want to create a blog.
And I create Kentucky Sports Radio.
And so for many years, there were all these different sites.
then starting in the late 2000, like 2007, 2008, 2009, things started to consolidate.
You had some of those sites I just mentioned went away.
Katz Paws became the official rival site.
And that was the major site for a long time.
Cats Paws.
I had Kentucky Sports Radio.
And that kind of became the second major site.
and then there was a site called kentucky dot scout.com.
I don't even remember that one.
That one's gone.
Over the years, it was kind of me and the cats paws, me and the cats paws.
Well, I don't know what happened.
Cats paws leaves, goes out on their own,
and Cats, what was Cats Balls becomes Cats Illustrated.
My point is to say, now Cats Illustrated is joining KSR.
And what I think is exciting is 30 years of Kentucky fan interaction online, literally 30 years going back to the UK America Online forum all the way through the various iterations.
And there have been more.
I mentioned some of the big ones, but there were many, many others.
They all kind of condensed into these two entities.
that are now one entity.
And Kentucky Sports Radio, KSR,
has now in many ways become
the last thing standing
from 30 years of Kentucky fans
finding themselves on the internet
and discussing and like celebrating the cats with each other.
And I am really proud of watching that history
because I've been a part of a lot of it.
I wasn't there at the very beginning, but I was pretty close.
And watching all of that business develop and all of those communities develop.
And now you kind of are with one.
And it is neat, Ryan, to see all that history, including Jeff Drummond, who was there at the beginning,
to all come together in this moment where you have Tyler, Drew, Justin Rowland, Jeff Drummond, etc., in one place.
You should be proud.
You know, you guys are kind of the last.
one standing, you know, who I never would have thought back in the day that
Katz Paws would be the guy that would come into you, thought it might be the other way
around, but you guys have withstood the test of time.
And now Jeff Drummond, like you said, man, he's got his finger on the polls just as much
as anybody in this, in this market.
He does.
And, you know, when I started the website, it was really about business.
Well, it was initially about fun and then slowly became about business.
And I realized, look, there's all these sites where you have to pay will be free.
They made a big difference.
We'll be free.
And at the time, the economic model of the internet, it worked.
People spent a lot of money on internet advertising, and we were able to flourish.
And everyone else, we kind of left everybody else in the dust.
It's now become full circle that because of social media, it's harder to just be free.
You have to have a free component and a paid component.
And now we will be both the biggest free.
and the biggest paid component,
which is like just business.
It's just how you have to do it now.
But Drew, you've been there for a lot of this.
You kind of started in like 2009.
So it's crazy to see all of these 30 years of things come together to one place.
It is crazy how much the landscape has changed.
Even before the news today, and you know,
you all don't go all the time, but you walk in these press conferences and it's like,
who are these people?
but then the one's still standing.
I mean, Jeff Drummond's still at all of them.
In fact, I love to work with Jeff.
He's one of them.
I don't have a lot of friends in media, but when I go to things,
always friendly with Jeff.
Love to work with him.
I know Justin's not local.
I don't know him as well, but glad to add them.
But just seeing how much has changed,
but we're just still logging into the same thing.
It's different.
It's added more people.
It's gotten much better.
But I remember when I started almost 17 years ago,
and you know, we got made fun a little bit,
laughed a little bit.
People didn't think we'd be there very long.
We're still here and still growing.
Frat boy journalism,
I used to call you guys.
you guys coming in. Well, you were that shit, and it was kind of like him whining about the woman in Jacksonville. I'm sure Ryan secretly didn't like you guys. Of course he didn't like it. He was a real news guy. Not you guys. Listen, when I first started, there were 50 people at every press conference. They didn't think I should be there. It was very controversial the first time I got a press credential. People were very mad. They said, you are not a, you should not be here. What's a blogger? Why are they giving him a credential? And now,
essentially it's the last one standing.
Yeah.
What you should be very proud of that.
And the ones hanging on are doing the blogging thing.
And the ones hanging on have just done what we've done.
Yeah.
And there's a whole new generation of kids, and I saw this at the game Saturday night.
I don't know who any of them are.
There are all these kids.
They're all 21 to 27, and they're all trying to make it,
and they're all doing their own thing.
And I wish, it's funny.
Now they attack us the way I use.
used to attack the mainstream media, but I wish them the best.
Like they're trying to fulfill their dreams too.
Yeah.
So, you know, I'm not going to do to them what people did to us.
We had a couple of them just attack us on Friday.
And I got mad.
And then I also thought, well, I probably would have done that back in the day.
So instead I wrote them private notes and was like, hey, just so you know, like, I'm here
to help you.
I'm not trying to fight with you.
But it's funny how it comes full circle.
from me typing in McGlore 52 and from Jeff Drummond logging into AOL in 1995 and now
you get to this right now.
Jeff had a way for people to get off the phone so he can comment on sports.
I have a question.
So there for a while was like Rivals and Scout.
Where are they now in the business?
I don't know if Scout even exists.
Rivals is now part of On 3, so that's gone.
Yeah.
And then I think 24-7 sports still exists.
which what is left of the cat's paws is there.
Gotcha.
So that's kind of the landscape.
And then the Herald leader and the Courier Journal exists,
but they're not nearly as many people read that as used to.
To nerd out, we already had great baseball coverage the last couple of years,
but Jeff is going to step in and help with that too.
I think baseball coverage specifically is going to have a huge bump with he and Luckett
sharing the beat this year, and it's going to be a good season.
So, you know, everything's getting better.
Roland will be a big asset too, but I'm excited to see baseball get even more coverage with more people.
I totally agree with you about that. Wildcat, Corey, go ahead.
What's up, man? I was just going to say, Ryan Lemon 30 years ago would have been mad at Mario for asking more.
Heck, yay, would have been mad. Ryan would have been doing, he would have been one of the people online complaining about that lady, Corey. You know it.
Yeah, and another time, got to give more Pope credit, running the offense to Morino.
Moreno, if I said right, Malacan.
Just Malacan.
Just Malacan.
Marino.
Marino.
He looked like Amory a little bit, Matt.
I don't know if it was talking about on a post game, but we did a lot of just sending it to him and then running cuts off of him.
I ain't up.
I appreciate to call.
They did a lot more playing through the post.
They played through Moreno some.
Did it a couple times with Garrison.
Did it a couple times.
Like, they played through the post a lot.
They also played through the post with Cam at the post who would then kick out.
and then he would run out for three.
I just thought it was so much more movement in the offense.
So the question is, is that because Lowe was not out there?
I think it was happening anyway, but I think that just exacerbated it even more.
There are people who will tell you that when we started shooting poorly at the beginning of the year,
the staff became convinced we have to run a different offense because we can't shoot.
And it just didn't work for the personnel that they had.
And now they're going back and saying probably, we're going to,
have to run the offense. We were going to run and we better hope we learn to shoot.
Yeah. I think that's kind of what it's going to be. We're going to run the offense that I run
and let's hope we learned to shoot. That's the way I think they're going to have to do it.
They were so fun last year, as we saw, Amari could bring it up the court and that five out,
Amari could hit anyone with a pass. I know Marino and Garrison, they got a little bit of that.
Looking back, Amario Williams was a unicorn. And now with this team, Pope needs to get back to
having a guy on the block and running things completely different because the five out with
this group. It just didn't work. It just didn't work. Donnie. Go ahead, Donnie.
Yes. A few things. First time caller from Madisonville.
Who are? Hey. Shout out.
So, first, Colin Chandler, his shot looks awkward this year compared to last year. Forget the
technology. We got 20 assistant coaches figure out what he's doing wrong. He made three. He made
I think he made three.
Am I right?
Do you make three threes?
He was on one of the few guys that actually hit one against Missouri, too.
Yeah, I think it's, hopefully that's turning around a little bit.
What's your next thing?
My next question, my next one is Brenda Garrison.
Whenever Elway's got the ball, if he will work to get open,
O'Way can hit him with his eyes closed because he's played with him so much.
And my third thing is, in football, Will Stein, we have got to have a dude on the defensive line.
They know that.
They know that.
I appreciate the call.
They've got, they've been trying to get one or two.
Those are very expensive guys.
But they, I do think that's a position that they are, that's one of the ones along
with wide receiver. They're trying to get a final
piece. Start the new year off strong by taking care of yourself
and that includes your skin. Prioritize your skin health rind, whether it's
persistent acne, fine lines or a spot you've been meaning to check. We've talked
about it. Are you going to get that checked? Yeah, I got this spot on my face. I
got to go get checked out. Well, how about the Kentucky Skin Cancer?
Sir. Don't forget to check it out. Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.com. Go see one.
You need to go get that checked out.
Yeah, you were worried about me the other day.
I am worried about you. That's why you need to go to the
Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.com.
We'll take a break.
Very back.
KS.

The question is, how do you conquer them?
On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them
and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't
feel like you don't feel like.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.

Welcome back to Tughey Sports Radio.
UK women got their second top five win of the year last year.
Very good.
First time in the history of UK women's basketball, they've won two top five games in a season.
They beat Oklahoma at home in front of a great crowd, you know, drop the game in Alabama,
but then come back and beat number five Oklahoma.
Huge win for Kenny.
Brooks. Yeah, kind of thriller. They were tied, I believe, at 57 late in the game, and Jordan Obie scored four straight points to give Kentucky the win.
Fourth quarter defense. Oklahoma didn't score for like the last four minutes, so pulled away late.
Clara Strach, another big game. She's just, we don't talk about her enough this year for how good she's been.
Had another double double. They're just looking so good there. And, you know, if you're going to drop one and then win that one, I'm fine with the results of dropping Alabama.
Then showing you can contend in such a hard league. You talk about, you know, the toughness of Jalen Lowe, man. That Tony Morgan was cramping
up. She could hardly walk up and down the floor, but she
stayed out there doing everything she could to stay on the court.
It was a great atmosphere there. I thought about going, but we had the
NFL stuff with all those playoff games yesterday, so I didn't.
But I heard it was awesome in there.
It sounded like it was awesome. Just watching it on the broadcast.
Yeah. A big win.
It should move into the top five now. You're sixth. You beat the fifth ranked team.
But you lose. Just take their spot, though. Come on. Just give it to them.
I'm finalist. I hope they move up.
UK baseball, by the way, preseason rankings came out today. They're 18th.
Nice. Very cool.
Somebody wrote, I saw one of the guys at D1 Baseball,
said Kentucky might have the first or second best starting rotation in college baseball.
Wow, really?
They got some transfer from Houston, Shannon, who can like make the ball go,
oh, really? Like that?
Yeah.
Well, that's not a pitch. Anybody can hit.
You can't hit a pitch.
So he's just going to have a no-hitter every game.
It's going to be crazy.
He's got electric stuff.
I'm excited about the baseball program.
I think he played at Houston, and now he plays for us.
Nice.
So, by the way, going at the basketball game Saturday, very cool Rupp's Runts were there.
Pat Riley gave a speech to the crowd.
It was neat.
I talked about on the post game show, all these little kids coming up and getting pictures with them.
I thought that was really cool.
Very historical moment, you know, to be these guys pushing 80 years old out there
in one of the most beloved teams in our history
of Kyle UK basketball
and it was so nice to see how the crowd responded to
him like you said guys were bringing their kids
down to get their pictures taken with some of their idols
and Pat Riley's still has such swag
he does
yeah yeah
he just loved to have that swag when you were
80 years old and good to see
as many out there were but then when Pat's addressing
the crowd he's like thanking the fans he's like I realize
most of you weren't even here
to watch us but we thank you
yeah I didn't get they didn't play
his speech, but everybody talked about how awesome it was.
Like, he got emotional.
He did get emotional.
You know, he hasn't, I don't know that he's talked a lot here.
You know, sometimes he didn't even come for a long time.
I even said that.
I never got a chance to thank you when I left.
That might have been the first time he's really talked to the fans.
To me, since I've been here, I think this is just like the third time he's ever even
been here because, you know, usually he's involved with.
Well, he's coaching or GME or something like that.
Right.
So I'm glad they gave him a chance to kind of address the crowd a little bit.
It was awesome.
Yeah, very nice.
Cindy, go ahead, Cindy.
Hey, thanks for taking my call.
A couple of things.
On Saturday, we were sitting behind the student section, behind the eruption zone.
My friend saw Will Stein hugging this really big man.
They were like, something's going on.
Then the student started going crazy.
Well, my friend ran out to the end of the aisle, and she said,
I'm getting my picture made with this guy.
She said, I've got no idea who he is.
So we have a great photo of her hugged up with Bo Barnes,
and it was so good to see Will Stein engage with the crowd
and to see the cats play hard and bring home a win.
And I'm very happy that we were there.
Well, let's talk about the Bob Barnes thing,
because I think it was awesome, Cindy.
You explained exactly what happened.
I appreciate the call.
So Bo Barnes is on his visit, okay?
And I heard from some folks at UK that were maybe like,
hey, you know, maybe we should get the students to know Bo Barnes is here.
So before the game, Shannon, you know, I don't know any students.
Josiah.
There you go.
Well, he wasn't there.
He was there.
Well, I didn't see.
He would have been good to know at the time.
But I kind of went to the front row there and Shannon, I was like, hey, there's this guy named Bo Barnes.
What does he look like?
Don't know.
But he's probably on your phone.
Yeah.
Right.
He comes out, start chanting.
You know, like, bo, bo, bo!
That's a heck of a chant.
It'd be good to what else you're going to chant?
Bo, Barnes.
Bo, Barnes.
Or how about?
Bo, boom, boom, bo, bo, bo, bo.
Or you could do like the caliperia, just,
Bo!
Yeah.
So anyway, now, I don't know if they did when he came out.
I'm not sure if they realized it was him.
Probably not.
Okay, but they might.
You don't know.
You weren't there.
Well, you just said nobody knew what he looked like.
Well, but maybe they looked it up.
Okay, so point being, Will Stein and Bo Barnes end up standing right next to the student
section, right over there where Mitch Scowls during the games.
You know what I'm talking about?
Right in front of the bitch.
Yeah.
And Bo Barnes apparently whispered.
into Stein's ear, I'm coming here.
Will like, I think they thought it was possible, but they didn't know for sure.
And he like celebrates, like jumps and hugs it.
Well, the students all see it.
And apparently then Will looks at the students and goes, he just committed, Bo Barnes.
And then the students go crazy.
And of course, all the stadium or the arena now sees it happening.
And it all happens right there.
It was a spontaneous moment that unless you were sitting right there in the student section,
apparently you wouldn't have seen.
I'd already left when it happened, but that was, that apparently occurred.
I love that moment surprising him.
Also, this is a huge recruit.
It wasn't just one guy on your list.
This is, well, it might have been the player you mentioned earlier, top recruit out of high school.
But to do it in Rup Arena like that and get the reaction was awesome.
I think you even gave Mitch a little dapp.
Yeah, and in terms of portal now, it's hard to get surprised because they have to work out these deals.
But I think from what I understand, talking to people,
they were genuinely surprised.
They didn't expect him to say that at that moment.
Mid game.
It makes me wonder where in the game.
Was it like the Hunt Brothers Pizza Cam?
Was it the Snackwitz cam?
I think it was the Snackwards Cam?
Was it Moni, Moni?
We saw Moni and decided I have to be there.
He just couldn't stop tapping his feet.
He's like, oh, this is fun.
See, that's like one of those spontaneous things.
That's kind of a cool moment that happened at the game.
Yeah, you said a spontaneous moment, but it was scripted perfectly for him to do that
at that moment at the game.
It wasn't scripted.
Scripted means it was planned.
This was spontaneous.
But for him to go up to coach say, I'm going to commit right now here at the game, I'm telling him.
I'm told that Will was surprised.
Yeah.
Now, you know, I wasn't, I didn't, but I'm told he was genuinely that they thought it could happen,
but they didn't know it was going to happen in that moment.
Very cool.
During the game.
During the game.
Like it was during a timeout of the game.
Perfect.
Get the crowd involved with it.
The students were there and they were going, boom, boom, boom.
Actually, I don't know if they did that.
That's what I was hoping they would do.
8-9-2-80-2-87.
Take a break.
Be right back.
T-J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T-J.
He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Tegi Sports Radio.
I don't know, for people out there,
there's going to be a lot of people that will care about this announcement
and they might not know the K-H-S-A-S-A scoreboard,
which is where you would get the scores, Shannon, of all the game.
basketball and football.
Yep.
Rye Hurds.
I always said Ryehards.
I'm not for sure exactly how to pronounce it.
R-I-H-E-R-D-S dot com.
But you could link it from the K-H-S-A-A website, right?
Yes.
It is shutting down.
You just bummed me out.
In June.
This is where people got the high school scores for like 25 years.
You news directors, that's where you got the score.
We got a score.
Girls basketball, soccer, baseball, they had all the scoreboards on there.
I can't believe it's going to disqual.
it's going to disappear. And the history of years past, it's all right there.
All gone.
Come on, man.
There's just some website.
As you say, when one door closes.
I mean, if there's some website that would go by a website.
Get that.
Yeah, but I don't even know.
How do you even run that thing?
I mean, I'm not going to spend Friday nights putting scores up.
You got to call people.
Say, what was the score of your high school game?
Somebody had to report it.
Because sometimes they would even have the box score.
It would be very detailed.
Yeah, they would.
He's right.
Not all of them would, but some would send in the full box.
They'd say, but not going to do it anymore.
Bummer.
You just bum me out.
No, no.
I mean, but maybe there's a website that could go for it.
But I mean, who's doing all that work?
It ain't going to be me.
AI.
Ryan Lemon.
There you go.
Kentucky SportsReport's at.
What else is he doing on a Friday night?
What are you doing, right?
Yeah, he's doing PA work anyway somewhere.
He might as well.
Yeah, and you're not getting paid to do a George Rogers Clark tennis match.
This would be a better.
gig for you. You'd be good show preps when Matt
asked you, the high school. Who won? You already put them
all out. You already know. You can sit there by the phone. You can talk to all those people as they
call in. No, he wouldn't get them off the phone. They'd start
talk about something from the 90s. You'd have to text
because you would take forever. I feel like you'd be good at that.
Man. The Ryan Hurds.
Ryan Hurds. See?
We're on to something here. What a bummer.
Yeah. Well, apparently, that just got
announced today, too. I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Ray Davis, first team all-N-fell.
Oh, can we do better than that?
Nobody's clapping.
All right.
There you go.
First time someone's been all-in-fell first-in-fell from Kentucky since Dermani Doss.
Was it really that far?
It's gone that far.
He was for kick returning.
Yeah, right.
Yeah.
Has not been a first team all-pro from Kentucky since Dermani Doss.
There are two all-pros that have been on this show.
Don't forget the other one.
Devin Key, also named All-Pro.
Devin Key, All-Pro.
Congratulations.
So two of the six special teamers have been on this show.
Were you expecting that?
Well, he led the NFL in special teams tackles.
Like, he almost made the Pro Bowl because he led the league and set the Denver Broncos record for special teams tackles.
I hadn't kept up with that close to.
But when that Broncos graphic popped up with their all pros and I saw his picture, that's how found out.
I was stunned.
I know he's been playing well.
But first team all pros is another conversation.
Maybe you can go to the Super Bowl.
don't think I'm going to try
Don't think I'm going to try
You mean not try
He's not going to try
He really doesn't want to go
You guys won't take me
I want to go have Dante take me
Don't think I'm going to try
Don't dare me to try
I'll say this
How about this
I'm going to make a deal with
Okay
If
Devin Key makes a Super Bowl
Yes
Say it
We'll road trip out there
Yes, you can come with us.
Say it.
Instead of flying.
I don't have to go to your special fancy parties.
And then Shannon doesn't even have to go.
Good.
He can do a road trip without having to go.
I would not have to go.
But I'll welcome you to go.
If Devin makes it, we'll drive, we'll make that our road trip and you can go.
Well, thank you.
That's very sweet of you.
And that would be fun.
Get on the road, drive to San Francisco.
I'm out on the Broncos now.
We were so excited about our flight.
It's for you.
Let's go Broncos.
We owe it to Ryan.
Yeah, you do.
And then you can.
can sleep.
We'll let you...
Sleep with Mario?
No, Billy loses his room.
You get to share the room with Billy.
Because you only on the road, 99% of the time, Shannon's my roommate.
Well, we all have single rooms, but I'll tell Billy if the Broncos make it, you're
staying with Billy.
I mean, that's pretty amazing from Masters and Station to the Super Bowl.
I got to be there, man.
That's really mean to Billy, because Billy has to be up at 6 a.m. out in California to do
the pre-game.
But Ryan will help him.
Ryan will help him.
I'll carry whatever equipment you need me to.
Okay.
You're working for.
us that week. I am. Yep.
I'm setting lights up. I think that'll work. They'll save
the NFL money. Because
they need it. Why aren't we saving the NFL money?
How about you all pick
me and Mario and Billy up at the airport when you get there.
No, Brian's coming. We'll go. It'll be fun.
Great content. Brian, go ahead, Brian.
Yeah, man. Thanks for taking my call.
I'll tell you, there's one sudden change
I've noticed. I think it's fixed a lot of things
that actually started in the Missouri game.
Obviously, we finished bad,
but I believe it started in that game.
and it's carrying over.
One, they took the center and they moved him to the short corner.
Yes.
It's almost like a four and a half out.
Yeah, they took the generally it's a four,
although sometimes they have Moreno at the five and he would do that.
But you're right.
Generally speaking, yes.
So they took either the four or the five like you were talking about to that short corner,
which actually gives open drives early on in the shot clock,
and then they don't work it back to the post until they need a shot at the end.
but I do believe it's allowed Yellovich and other players like that pass that he was able to make
the give and go with Brandon Garrison where he passed up the three and then even Denzel Aberdeen
his decision making has changed over the last couple games I think so I totally agree by switching that offense
switching that offense has allowed Yelovits to play it's put Aberdeen in a more comfortable spot
I think it's been great for everybody except maybe Diabate yeah I think you're right I love
I agree because in Diabate, he even changed, starting shooting threes again.
That's not his game.
No, it's not.
I appreciate the call.
I think that's probably the best way to play to get the best out of this team they can,
although it probably means not playing Deerbate as much.
I think I'm fine with it at this point.
When they weren't being physical or fighting early in the year, you needed them.
They've picked that up a little bit, and it's not just that he can't shoot.
Some of his passes have been awful.
And he just, when he gets the ball, he heads.
down and just throws it into the backboard.
And he doesn't really have touch.
So it ends up either being a miss.
Sometimes he draws a foul, but he does it.
You know, it is what it is.
And he's a grump.
I love that clip in the Indiana game.
He is.
I'm not trying to be rude.
He's just a grump watching.
I mean, he's just always, he's always barking at somebody.
The clip, I think it was Cody Feger.
There's just a clear divide between what they're trying to do and what he's trying to do.
I think he even yells lip reading like I'm just trying to play.
basketball or something like that. He's just not
fitting in to whatever they're trying to run.
Austin. Go ahead, Austin.
Hey guys, thanks for taking the call.
So this is the first game I got to go to
on Saturday this year and the first
one in the Pope era.
But for the first couple minutes
when we were falling behind, all the
offense guys were just kind of standing still.
And then once he got them moving, doing that
weave action, that's where everybody got
open and we got open looks. And I think
that we still have better athletes than
90% of the teams that we're playing.
It's just the execution.
So if we keep that going,
I think that's the way to move forward.
And then on the football side,
Will Stein has got me more excited than I've ever been for football,
so much so that I'm looking to sell everything I want to try to get season tickets
and begging my wife,
even though we don't have to make it happen.
You may not have to sell everything,
but I'm excited too.
I appreciate the call.
Bo, Bo, Bo, Bo.
Somebody just sent me a picture.
This is Bo with a woman in the crowd.
Look at how happy he's.
Oh, that's probably the collar we had.
That's where I heard that call. Look how happy she.
That's awesome.
What about Bo C-A-T-S?
Yeah, Bo, pick the cats.
Try that out.
I like mine.
I didn't want to say one more thing.
Yes.
I turned in the post-game basketball show, not to hear you talk about Mississippi State
because I knew you'd have to be, you were excited about the Bears.
Okay, so I'm going to do that right after the break.
Yeah, we don't have to do that.
We're going to talk about the Bears.
We've got to talk about Shannon's Packers.
Did Billy play the clip of me celebrating this?
morning.
Billy recorded me through.
I was connected for the postgame show and Billy was able to record me watching the final
play.
We got to hear that.
You can bring him in there.
I think it's on his phone.
We played it on Cover Zero last night.
859-280-2287.
Let's see.
Let's do what.
Don Franklin.
Is that what I want to do?
Sure.
Yeah.
Because I want to talk about my friends at Don Franklin.
Because they want to talk about me.
Well, I don't know if they do or not.
You can ring in the new year with a new ride at Don Franklin.
Choose from thousands of new and certified pre-owned vehicles.
There's one for you, five-year parts warranty, blue collar off-road grit.
They've got that.
Or if you want a luxurious ride, try Don Franklin Auto.com,
schedule a test drive and pick it up at a local store.
It's Don Franklin Auto.
They are driven by family.
We will make fun of Shannon's Packers for blowing it.
And my bears are barren down and grate in cheese.
That's next.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.

From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context and ask the questions everybody wants answered.

Life throws hurdles big and small.
The question is, how do you conquer that?
On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them
and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WMBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki.
The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me.
And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Like, I can do anything.
I can do anything.
Because resilience isn't just about winning.
It's about showing up, even when it's hard.

Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio.
I was just saying to you guys, they have this new technology now if you have clear
when you fly, like you don't have to show anything at the airport.
You just literally just you walk up, give your face and your end.
People that fly all the time.
Why isn't everybody doing it?
They've got it in New York.
I think they have it in Cincinnati.
It's a little scary, Shannon, that like they can just like look into our eyes and they
You got everything you need?
Yep.
Like they know you've booked a flight.
They know everything about you from your facial scan.
And it makes it to where in New York and Cincinnati, it takes me one minute to get through.
Which is convenient, but you hope it doesn't ever like malfunction or screw up and just start letting people in.
That's true. And that's exactly right.
And also one day when everyone has it, it won't be as convenient anymore.
But for right now, when nobody has it, it's literally one minute.
So like, you know, when you get on a plane, you have to show your boarding pass, show your ID.
the guys to look at it now, none of that.
You just,
and you're in.
But what's the say it won't send you to Dave Fleming's game and won't send Dave Fleming to your...
Nothing physically makes you get on the plane.
You still choose your plane.
Just scan through there.
Okay, I didn't even think about your stupid Dave Fleming.
This is what I get for trying to, like, treat your concern for real.
This camera technology tells me a lot about what they know about us.
I just did this this weekend.
I had a hat pulled down.
I looked nothing like myself.
My head was lowered.
I'm like, there's no way they knew that was me.
They knew they do.
I also like, well, I'm not going to get all conspiracy theory.
But you know, I don't know, they're going to have, they already do have a record of all of us.
But I saw one of the things they said like, you know, you see all these videos.
I'm not trying to argue about the ICE videos.
I have my opinions, but who cares?
But like you'll notice all these officers are now like,
taking pictures of everything.
There's a theory that like it's just to have a phone record of everybody.
What everyone drives, what everyone's face, like in one system, which they probably can do now anyway,
but still it's like a little, there's going to come a point like you'll be able to find anybody's anything.
Sure.
Which I don't think is good, Shannon, but I think it's just reality.
I feel like you pretty much already can.
You probably, you can find addresses, phone numbers.
Yeah.
I mean, Google.
Whatever happened to good old privacy.
Right.
Zero privacy.
There's zero privacy.
I saw Instagram had a big leak.
Millions of infos out.
I'm like, good.
Add it to all my other leaks that have happened in the last couple years.
I get a little thing.
I don't know if you,
I'm subscribed to this like security service.
And they'll be like,
your blank has leaked on the dark web.
We're just leaking everywhere.
And I'm always like, what do you want me to do about that?
Like when they tell you your social security numbers on the dark wind,
what are you supposed to do?
What's I'm not supposed to do?
Like, go to dark web and go leave me alone?
Like, what are you supposed to do?
I don't know what you're supposed to do.
I'd rather not know about it.
Yeah, I mean, there's nothing I can do.
Don't tell me that.
Too late.
Can't change it.
Yeah.
See, I just go to the dark web and write it myself.
That way I don't have to worry about these concerns.
Here's everything I have.
All right, bears win.
What a victory.
Unbelievable.
What a victory.
One of the great comebacks in the history of football.
The best Bears win since we won the Super Bowl 40 years ago.
And it was two Shannon's Packers.
Favorite parts.
One, God and Stan's Great and Cheese.
Loved it.
Okay, but here's the thing, though.
That means that guy walked around for hours with a block of cheese in his pocket.
I agree.
That's weird.
Totally weird.
Totally weird that he carried around a block of cheese and got greater through security.
How do you do that?
You can bring a greater into a stadium and the NFL?
I can't bring anything into a Reds game.
Right.
And this man can bring a cheese grater and a block of cheese into the game.
What do you think of the coach in the locker room saying, blank the Packers?
I'm fine with it, man.
I mean, obviously, I don't like the Bears, but I go for it.
don't care.
It doesn't bother me.
So I was pacing.
You got to think about the timing here.
The post game show is about to start.
And I'm watching the end of the game.
So I'm trying to keep up with Billy giving me the time cues, but I'm also pacing throat.
But I'm connected to the post game show.
So Billy can hear me.
And so I'm trying to not be as wild as I normally be.
Because normally I'd be yelling like, get him!
because I knew Billy could hear me.
But Billy did catch this is the moment
where the Bears make the final play, Drew, to win the game.
That was me just in my house,
screaming after the Bears get the final play.
I'm telling you, that's why I tuned in to the postgame show
to hear you go crazy about your Bears win.
I was really worried that I was going to have to watch the final plays on the air.
And what if they would have lost?
I would have been awful.
You would have been used to it.
He's a Bears fan.
Yeah, I would have been used to it.
But what an awesome win.
Great environment.
We were talking about how fun would it have been to be there?
Soldier Phil looked crazy.
I mean, to help being the Packers, who've had your numbers forever now,
was it there, I won two against Green Bay in the playoffs.
To have that home game, that opportunity to finish the job the way they did with that comeback,
couldn't ask for a better win.
And I don't think y'all are done.
Talk about the Broncos going to San Francisco.
I'm excited to see your Bears in San Francisco.
So the Broncos go to San Francisco, Ryan goes.
If the Bears go to San Francisco,
I'll get my fingernails done.
Oh my.
Wow.
I did see that.
His fingernails painted.
Yes.
No, I will.
I'll go get, what do you call that?
A manicure?
Yeah.
But what do people do when they paint things on their fingers?
Get the nails painted?
Yeah.
I will do a thing if the Bears make the Super Bowl.
I got a good spot number.
No, no, no.
I'll do like he does where he's got all the little, like I'll get like a little bears thing on it.
Well, you can get B-E-A-R-S on one hand on your fingernails right there.
So if they make it before we go, I'll do that.
I'll tell you one thing that was very cool after the game.
The Bears fans didn't want to leave the stadium.
I know.
It looked so fun.
Why would you want to leave?
It was like, what, 12 degrees or whatever it was, and they did not want to leave the stadium.
That's why you don't have a dough.
That atmosphere with the cold at night.
Like, you don't get that inside.
That's true.
That needed to be outside for that to happen.
Brad.
Go ahead, Brad.
Yeah, man.
This is first time, long time.
Who are?
I missed the first half of the show, so I apologize if you all have touched on this.
But at the game Saturday night, Seneca Driver, the number one tied in in the state was there.
And him and Will Stein had a pretty cool interaction there during one of the halftime things.
So I thought that was pretty cool.
And second thing, I've heard a lot of people talk about OA, possibly a lot of times maybe taking some plays off
for maybe not being the best team player and all that.
But being there at the game, man, I don't do that at all.
Nobody tries as he does.
Nobody gives as much effort as him.
I mean, they were throwing slobber knockers at him, and he was just still just eating up.
I agree with you.
He's been great since SEC play.
I think you should.
I appreciate the call.
He's been great since SEC play.
I really do.
I think he's been excellent.
Code Po.
Go ahead, Po.
Hey, God bless, guys.
I'm glad you're out of full force again.
I wish Kentucky could be.
I wanted to ask,
Ryan would probably be
if he's heard any scuttle buddy,
probably be the best one to answer this.
There's a Keithley kid out of Martin County.
As a sophomore last year,
he averaged 37 points a game at Paintsville.
But he's in Martin County this year.
He's averaging 35.
I'm going to go to you.
Po, quickly, give me a question.
quick.
Well, are we looking at him?
All right, what do you think, Scuttlebutt?
I think they brought him in just for a visit,
but I think he's getting recruited by Morehead Eastern those schools.
You think that swings up being what he does?
Probably, yeah.
All right, let's go to Draft King's promo code KSR, bet five.
You can win up to $300 with the NFL playoffs bet on Draft Kings tonight.
Steelers and Texans.
Ryan, who you got?
Texans.
I can't believe the Steelers snuck their way into the playoffs.
I'm going Texans.
Even though they're at home.
Texans.
Getting three points.
Well, three road teams won this weekend.
What do you think?
I'll take the points.
They're getting a field goal at home, Pittsburgh.
I'll say Aaron Rogers has one more playoff winning him,
even though that Texans defense is so good.
Yeah, I think Pittsburgh at home.
I think Rogers gets it done.
You're giving me three.
I'm going to take the three and I'm going to take the Steelers.
So I'm the only guy going to Texans tonight.
Yeah, I think the Texans can win the game.
I think they're better.
But you're giving me three at home on a Monday night in Pittsburgh.
It's going to be cold.
It's going to be cold.
I took the points at home with your bears.
That worked out.
Road teams are hot this weekend.
All right.
Thank you all very much.
