Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Ask anything Tuesday. I'm going to go to the phones here in a second and give people a chance to ask, you know, anything. Shannon, you were giggling the whole time Vince was on there. It's really cool that he came on, though. I don't think many coaches would do that from, like, your biggest rival. I don't either. And I, you know, a couple of, most of you have said it was good.

Some people complain in. I would say, oh, come on. Completing about what? Get over it. It's funny. It's funny. It is. And like, you know, Vince is, I appreciate him doing it.

And by the way, I have asked to have the UK staff on. My hope was to over the course of the next couple months introduced all the staff to the team. I do, or to the fans, I do hope that will happen. But as of yet, they've said, no, there's nothing you can do about it. I would argue that it is much better to do this and to introduce people than not. But everybody's got a different perspective on that. But I actually, plus I like giving him a hard time.

And we called it randomly. So I thought it was great. Yeah, just cold called him and he answered. I look so nervous the whole time. Ron's just happy to get the heat off of him. It's true. Now I need somebody who knows more about who's in these recruiting. He said they didn't lose anybody to Kentucky.

I don't believe that's true. But I also didn't. What? But I also don't want to, like, I didn't want to name individual players. I don't think it's fair to those players. So that's why I was kind of, that's why I didn't do it. If I was UK sitting there, I'd call you and have Pete knocked on right now, like almost. Okay, we're going to back that.

That's what I would do to. But I do think we will get them on eventually. But see, you never know what's going to happen on this. That's why I love live radio. You don't know what the next thing is that's going to happen. And it was good. You were giving him crap. He was giving you right back to you a little bit.

Joel Nardi has Kentucky where in the Bracketology? He just put it out. I believe, let me pull it back up some right. We're a 10 seed, if I'm not mistaken. A 10. But the bad part is we're down in the bubble section. we're one of the last four buys, but we're already, we're bubble talking. We're not even up with the other teams.

We should be bubble talking, to be honest with you. I mean, like our resume is a bubble resume at this moment. All right, let's, I do this every year because it's always good to see how much we all know pop culture. The Golden Globes. They were card Sunday. Sunday. I thought the woman, Nikki Glazer, I thought she was good on the monologue. I thought that was a big get for her being a host.

She did a good job. I thought she did a really good job. They were funny. All right. I'm going to give you the winners. Okay. Best drama. Hamnet.

Never even heard of it. That's the first time I'm hearing this. Hamnet is a movie about, I don't know if you knew, when Shakespeare wrote Hamlet, during the time he was writing it, his son died, whose name was Hamlet. Oh. And in Gaelic, I guess Hamlet and Hamlet are kind of the same name. Okay. So it's about how the death of his son inspired.

Hamlet. And that was the winner. That was best drama. Best comedy. One battle after another, which is not a comedy. I don't know how's that a comedy. Not a comedy at all. Not a comedy at all. Great movie. In my opinion, best movie I've seen this year, maybe the best movie I've seen the last couple years, but not a comedy. Never heard of it. It's Leonardo DiCaprio. You've seen the ads for that. He's like, his daughter gets kidnapped and he like wants to go save her. It is considered one of the best movies. It's not funny. I I appreciate it. I don't know why. Kidnapping. That's so funny. I don't know why

that it's a comedy. I mean, it's got some funny lines. But it's not a comedy. But anyway, it won. Yeah, okay. Best animated motion picture. Did you see K-pop demon hunters? I didn't, but I'd love to. It sounds wonderful. No, it's big. It's huge. It's huge. It's like the biggest thing. Did you not know that? No, I did not. It was like half of the Halloween costumes in my neighborhood.

Yeah, everybody was a K-pop demon hunter. You don't keep up with anything. No. Best cinematic achievement. This is the new ward than they're given for like blockbusters. And it was sinners. Did you ever see that? Didn't see it. It's good.

Did you ever see it? Did none of you see it? I've seen like one movie in three years. Any of these movies are. Sinners is really, really, really good. You ought to see it. And then let's go, do you want to go to the television part? Let's see.

Best TV drama was the pit. Okay, I'm watching the pit. You like the pit? Season two just started. Just, season two just started. I feel like you would. like that. What's about? Max? It's about a pit. No, it's, uh, it's about an emergency room in Pittsburgh.

With, uh, Noah from ER is the lead. Oh, I've seen that, I've seen that advertised. Okay. Uh, best comedy, the studio, which is on Apple TV. It's, I've seen that really good. I enjoyed that one too. I thought it was hilarious. Seth Rogan is in it. Another strikeout for me. It's good. I'm going to read you the comedies and drama. Have you even heard of these shows? Okay. The diplomat. No The pit you had heard of pluribus

No Severance Yes I've heard of that but I've not seen it Slow horses No White Lotus you've heard A lot of Apple TV on the list Abbott Elementary

I've heard of that The bear Bear Bear's a comedy I don't think so But it's nominated Yeah I like the bear But it's not a comedy

Yeah. So you're not big on any of us. No. I've seen the Bears, the only one I've seen. All right. And then finally the best anthology series. How many of these have you heard of? Adolescence, which one?

No. That's on Netflix. That's a big one. It's about the guy, 13-year-old boy that kills like a classmate. Well, it sounds wonderful. What a family moment. I don't think it's a family show. Okay.

All her fault. Nope. The Beast in Me. Nope. Black Mirror. Nope. Oh, I've heard of that one. dying for sex.

No. The girlfriend. No. None of them. What do you do all day? I don't watch, sit around and watch TV. I don't believe that. What do you do at night?

Last night we watched the Texans and the Steelers. Did you hear that? He just started it with We Watched. Yeah. You watch TV every night. Games. Yeah, there are games on every night. What do you do in like April, May, June, July?

What do you watch then? Baseball. So do you watch sports like every single night? I watch it ahead of something. I did watch Stranger Things. I'm down in the last episode. Here you go. Okay.

Let's just hip on that trend. Yeah. All right. I do have a show that I enjoy. I think you would like. Okay. It's called Traders. All right.

It's like a reality show where you're just supposed to pick out the traitor. I think you would like it. I think it's really good. You're good when you're- It's like Survivor, but it's in a castle. And they vote people off and they, I think you, I think you, would like it. Could you watch the mole back in the day where they're trying to find the mole? It's kind of like that. Trying to find the trader. You're good about when you refer a show to me,

say you'll like this, like the James Garfield show. You know, there's a good. Did you enjoy that? I really like that. I think you'll like traders. I think it's the kind, it's just campy enough. And you could figure out like, what would I do if I was Ryan Lemon on there? Okay. Traders. There's a new season starting now. I'm still on the first one. I'm just picking it up. But I think you will. What platforms is it on? Peacock. Peacock. Donna Kelsey's on the new one. Spoiler alert.

I know you're excited to see that. Who's Donna Kelsey? We've got to get you up on pop culture. Travis Kelsey's mom. Oh, okay. She's on the show? Yeah. They get celebrities.

A lot of celebrities. Gotcha. I just think you would like it. I just feel like it's the kind of thing you would enjoy. All right. You've been good at it when you refer a show to me that I like. Yeah. Succession.

You're keeping up with all the trends. I don't believe you just watch sports. Does yoga gal just watch sports? She does. Yeah, no. She watches like you all watch. I have a show. There's no way she sits and watches you watch basketball every night.

She would prefer to watch it more than me sometimes. Interesting. Yeah. I wouldn't have thought that. Andrew, go ahead, Andrew. Hey, guys. Thanks for taking my call. So two things, one about basketball, one about football.

The one about basketball is I kind of saw the Jalen Lowe surgery coming. I said something to the text machine. after the St. John's game. But I was an assistant to my high school's athletic trainer, my senior year of high school after I got my EMT license. And one of our seniors sustained a similar injury where his shoulder popped out of socket. And this one was worse than Jalen Lowe's injury because of his shoulder.

I think everybody thought this was a possibility. I mean, I know you, I'm sure you said there were a lot of people that thought it would happen. He just wanted to try to play through it. And I think after the third time he heard it, he felt like he had to have the surgery. I think if he just took a few games off, you know, despite everybody not wanting him to, I think he would have not needed the surgery

because the guy that I'm talking about, he delayed his surgery kept getting delayed, and even his baseball season after the football season ended, he got injured in our exhibition games. But everything I've heard, and I appreciate the call is he was going to have to have the surgery anyway. And, you know, the fact that he played, what, five or six games and got hurt three times suggests to me it was going to keep happening.

And if he played one more game, he would, he lose his red shirt. So, Ryan, I think it makes complete sense he would do it. Yeah, like we said earlier, man, a tough kid to play through that knowing surgery was coming, and still tried to tough it out and give us as much minutes as he could. but now's the time. I mean, it happened again and you play one more game. You lose your year of eligibility. Get it done for the kid.

We'll miss him, but you've got to get it done. And nobody likes to look at it this way, but that's probably not a guy we're going to be watching the NBA. And if he can double dip on NIL, he's got to look out for his own situation. I think that's an important part too. He's probably not an NBA player. So if he gets two more years of college, I can understand why he would do. It could be more money than he'll ever make. Isaac, go ahead, Isaac.

Hey, guys. So I know with all the news around Jalen Lowe, it's a sad time around the basketball. But I feel like we have success when we run our offense through the four like Pope has done in past or through a big man. So I was curious for you all. If you could bring back a four from recent years or just any past team, who would you bring back to run this offense and save our season? Amari Williams. But if I don't get Amari Williams, I appreciate the call.

who is a four that could step out and shoot but also could kind of pass. Who's our best passing big that we've had besides of Morrie Williams? I was going to say Patrick Patterson. He's going to. He came to mind for me immediately too. Actually, Patrick Patterson would be great under Pope's offense. I like that call. And he added the corner three in the NBA, but if we could include the corner three that he got so good at, he'd be perfect.

I think that's a great pick. Patrick Patterson's really good. He would be perfect in this office. 100%. Yeah, 859-280-2287. I was going to go to Amy, but Amy's not there. So let's go to Dennis. Go ahead, Dennis.

We've done some great receiving. Will Stein end to the receiver position is warning. Yes. So has that kid committed yet to Colorado? It was RPMing that way. Let me see if he's actually done it. Yeah. So from what I understand, and I appreciate the call,

they were still trying to get the more kid from Texas. Did he come in? A lot of picks for that, but I don't think it's official yet. And basically yesterday, he told the UK, I still need more time. And I think they kind of decided to do what they did with Sam Levitt, where they said, look, if you decide you want to come, let us know, but we got to look at other options. And I'm told they have one sort of elite option, but they don't want to release the name because they don't want other schools to know who they're looking at.

And then they've added, remember, they got the kid from LSU that came over, and I think they're going to add a few more others. But I think it's fair to say they don't have that elite wide receiver yet. I think that's a fair, fair thing to note. And what the Cam, was Cam Miller the one of re-signed? They lost one Miller, but they got, they kept DJ. They kept DJ, lost Cam. Hardly Gilmore went to Baylor.

Cam went to Old Miss. So they kept DJ, and then they brought in three or four other guys. Did you see the ad this morning, Ryan? You know him. Brock Hoffman's coming home. He's a depth piece, but that's a Lexington kid that UK didn't consider, I guess, where was he before, Louisville? Yeah.

Just one year at Louisville. But he comes from a Kentucky family. Ryan, I know his dad didn't like seeing them have read for a year. No way. He committed this morning. He's more of a depth piece, not by any means more or something like that, but they need that in the receiver room. Yeah, played it Sarah, won the state title.

at Sayer kind of had a great state championship game spent last year at Louisville and got on the field. So he got on the field against us. Like we're turning a punt one time. So kid can play. So that's a good little. It's Sayer, but he had video game numbers at Sayer, his senior year. To one of the top kids in state. What about Eric Daniels?

That's a good one. Not a great shooter, but in terms of the passer and hitting the ball, kind of the way that Amari played. I would take Patrick Patterson actually came to mind too, even though I didn't say it. But right behind that I had Terrence Jones. not a great shooter, but I would love to have them on this team. No, Terrence Jones would, well, I mean, Terrence Jones would be great. I don't know, I don't consider Terrence a great passer, but he could go get a bucket. Oh, without question.

You hate it, but it's stood the test of time. That's true. That's true. Derek Willis, I like that one as a four. Yes. He would be, Derek Willis would be a great player from Mark Pope. Definitely fits in that.

stretch four, sit in a corner all day and just bombing all that. But also athletic. Yeah. Derek was a lot more athletic than he got credit for. But how about this one? so somebody named SEC Mike. I think that dude loves to kind of troll Kentucky. We've met a few times Rouse goes on his show. They're all SEC, but they have a Tennessee lien,

especially he's got a guy in there. He's some Tennessee guy. So he ranked the SEC head coaches in football. He has Will Stein last. 16th out of 16. Now, that's one thing. So he puts out this tweet

and guess who retweeted it just minutes ago who Vince Mary I was going to say that I was going to say that there's nothing to do with you my goodness well even when he did his hello

Nick Rouse tweet it was a reply to something that had nothing to do with the game like he sought out Nick and just typed it yeah I think that's going to be there's got to be real bad blood there like it's not like he was joking with us but it's clear there's real bad blood

between that. I believe Vince, when he says, the old staff, he was still very close with him and will always be close with him. But like this new staff, he admitted, he didn't even know Will Snyd. He didn't know these guys, so he's going to come after us. Yes. Guess how much, Shannon, it costs to park at the national title game? Oh, God.

This is in the official parking lot at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium. $100. Yeah. I've already told these guys, what if I told you that right now a parking pass in the Hard Rock Stadium is 747. I would say I'll watch it at home. No thanks. I'll Uber there. A half mile down the road at private establishments that have parking, they are selling their parking for $200. $200 to park and then walk a half a mile to get to the game. I don't care where it is. It better be the gates of heaven that I'm parking my car in front of her for $700.

What would you do, though? Like, let's say your team was playing in it and the parking was like that. And let's just say you couldn't take an Uber. Would you just walk from as far as you could? Would you take a bus? Well, if it's within 50 miles, I can do it. Anything outside that. I don't think I could.

$747. You know, if it's Kentucky and we're all in a big Palmer Ford Bronco, we're all chipping $50. We're still not getting to $747. Let's see. we're going to need to have 15 people in the car. Everybody's got to pay a hundred bucks. A hundred bucks a piece for each of us?

Well, we still need a... Well, I mean, if we throw in Billy and Mario, we got six. Yeah. We got six. We got to pick up two people on the street. We would do it. I would not do it. I just, on principle, I'm not paying.

I don't like paying the $30 a day at the airport in Cincinnati. Dude, in Bill, Colorado, when we paid for that parking garage that was free, the next one. I'm still mad at Drew. That was the funny thing. That was like $50 to park in Vail. And then one right next door was free. And the one right next door was free. Drew was like, trust me, this is the one right here.

It's like $50? You sure this is the one? Oh, God. It said free. We're supposed to go right. We went left to drop the ball there. Yeah, sure. Kentucky Gas, man. Go ahead.

Hey, guys, what's going on? What's up? So, well, Tom, you know, since this is a ask anything day, I had an idea for a couple segments or a whole show, whatever you think. Some of my favorite shows y'all have done is like when you do role playing. I just think it's hilarious when you all do that. So, you know, in the spirit of talking about recruiting like we have been and everything,

we got so many great recruiters in Big Blue Nation, you know, the hard time that they've given to Mark Stoops overtime or, you know, the hard time they've been given to Mark Pope. So I would like to hear, like, people call in and give their recruitment speech to you. Well, let's not even do the call in. Let's just try Mr. Lemon. I appreciate the call. Ryan, let's say you had the job of being, let's just assume the money is equal between

Kentucky and another school. I want you, don't try to be funny. Just what would be your recruiting pitch to a. kid to pick Kentucky, let's say, over Duke and North Carolina. So we're doing basketball? Basketball. When it comes to college basketball, there is Kentucky, and then there's a big drop off to everybody else.

And we want you to be a part of this something special. We've got you at the top of our recruiting board right now. You're the guy we want to help build around. But they want me at Duke, and in the last decade, at least since I've been alive, Duke's been better than Kentucky. Those days are over. Those days are over, and we're coming, and we need you to be a part of it. 10 and 6?

We've had the injuries. The injuries kind of hurt us this year, so we're going to get past that. But we need you. You're the one that's going to help us get past that. Duke is 15 and 1. Yeah, but you go to Duke, you're not going to get the minutes you're going to get here. I'm the best player in the country. Yeah, but you're still going to have to share minutes because they're going to fail this year.

We're going to succeed. So we need you to be a part of this. Like I said, you're at the top of our board. Nobody else is, we're going after you. We have bourbon. We have horses. I'm under 21. I'm 17.

They're just people on the internet. There's a subsection of people on the internet who love to complain about KSR who do not listen to the show.

Which took me a while to learn. But if you're complaining about a show you don't listen to, like it happened a lot during the CalParia. People would be like, all you do is blast Calapier. I go, do you listen to show? No. Well, then, how do you know? I'd be like Ryan reviewing the Golden Globes. He didn't listen or watch any of them.

Hey, Ryan. How good is Hamnet? Don't know. You didn't see it. Did a breakfast food? It is. You get it at Waffle House. The other thing about this is too.

Vince is still our friend. You can still have a friend that goes to a rival school. Well, every single person listening has a friend who is like a Louisville fan or a Tennessee fan, like everybody. and then they get mad if you do. Like pairing gets that all the time from Louisville people. How can you be friends with Matt Jones? And he's like, there's literally a Kentucky friend sitting next to you.

Like you're literally, you're married to a Kentucky fan. You know, but it's because they don't see people in the public eye as real human beings. So, you know, I, but of course, with that. said, though, I brought it back because I thought it would be funny, and it was funny. And I like Lizzie. It was interesting hearing him kind of on the receiving end of trash talk because he's not used to it because he's always the one that gives. You know. If you didn't hear that part, you think we just had Vince on to brag on him and praise him.

But one of the things it's taken me a long time to learn since I've been doing this is that people in the public eye are human beings. Let me give you an example. You know who has been, who has asked me about how my dad is doing. doing more than any person, literally any person on earth. Who's that? Tom Crean. Tom Crean. Tom Crean text me every few days and ask me how Larry is doing or sends a Bible verse or sends like

it's one of the kindest things I've ever seen. I barely know him. I've done two ESPN bracket shows with him. I'll probably do another this year. But otherwise, I don't really know him. And yet, and he doesn't just ask him, how's he doing? He then, like, follows up and talks. Tom Crean.

I'm just saying, like, I would have never thought that about Tom Crean. I didn't think he was a bad guy. I just didn't really know him. And he did. As crappy as Dan Dockich can be publicly sent me an amazingly nice note. That's awesome. Like, you, like, these people, people are actual human beings.

And I think sometimes it's easy to forget that. It's very easy to forget that. So Vince is the same way. If you saw him out in public, by the way, there's a writer I really like. His name is George Saunders. He's one of my favorite authors. He's got a new book coming out in a couple weeks. He did a podcast.

I listened to it. And when he was talking, Ryan, he sounded like something I would say. He goes, you know, over the years I've gotten like these angry emails. And he goes, I have this weird. habit where for whatever reason those are the people I write back. And I was like, Shannon, I know that. Yep. Yep. I'm like that too. That is you. And he said, but I've learned almost unfailingly if I write someone back and say, hey, man, why'd you say that? Not being arguing, just like, why did you say that? They inevitably apologize or say, hey, you know, I didn't

mean that. I'm having a bad day. I'm having a bad day. It's like somebody told me years ago. If you're mean on the internet, chances are things aren't going well for you. Like you, you were telling me today. Tell everybody what you told me this morning about your future child. You said something happened last night that hadn't happened before. Oh, it feels unrelated to this. But the reason I'm saying this is I'm at a point where I can like feel a baby. Like, did that we're talking about like the kicking and like I can, you know, actually feel

that there's a real baby in my wife's stomach. But you looked. It was so cool to see you this morning. I've never had a baby. But you came in like beaming about the fact that for the first time you felt like your baby. This is Drew Franklin like doing shots in the bar and Yeagermeister. I was shopping for strollers in Miami last week. And you, Miami, I'm like just a proud dad.

I just like it's your person. And I think sometimes people forget that. So Vince is a person and I actually still find him entertaining even when he does dumb things. Well, you've become really good at that when people will say something kind of mean and hate for personal you just there's never private message not in public privately like when I watch people be I'm not going to mention

people in politics but the meaner somebody is in politics the more I'm sure they're having them they're miserable in their personal yeah right because why would you be mean if otherwise and that's their escape because there's not really consequences like there's no consequences on your out on whatever's on this timeline on the internet right and that's why I think it's cool you do it you do it retweet them when parent and I went out Friday night in Louisville, Shannon, the entire

Right. Which is kind of true, though, about Leonardo DiCaprio. He's very famous. But tell me something about his personality. Like, besides him dating models, do we know anything? about him really.

Yeah, because he doesn't go on like talk shows and yeah, I mean, we don't know what he's like as a person or even what he thinks. The only thing I see on like social media is he's got a black hat pulled over his eyes like hiding from paparazzi. So that's a good question. So use him as the base. Is there anyone more famous than him, Shannon, that we don't know anything about? Because most famous people now they're like overexposed and you know everything about it.

Yeah, I mean, I'm sure there's somebody. We sit here and thought long enough, but we don't have time to do that. I can think of one that like, I can't think. I don't really know much about Eddie Murphy. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like, I feel like he's very,

very famous, but like he never, you never seem anywhere. He doesn't go on. He doesn't do interviews. He just occasionally shows up and does a movie. Because most of these celebrities, they want to go on these talk shows to kind of expose their.

Who else? Yeah, they got to promote stuff. Like anybody else you can think of that, like, is really famous, but you just don't know. Shannon the dude.

well no i mean if people on the show he's the one that people know the league uh-huh but i mean he's not quite as famously yeah leonard no i'm close i mean pretty much i don't know i just think that's an interesting thing like who i feel like you know something about almost everyone but he is he is maybe the biggest movie star and i don't know anything about him except occasionally shows up on a yacht yeah just naturally to be a celebrity you need to be in the conversation. So you almost have to be old because you almost have to become a celebrity before you needed to be on social media and all that stuff. So you almost have to be old for this. Yes. Because younger people, I just don't think they grew up on social media. They grew up with everything

out there. So like musicians, like what about musicians? Is there a music like like back in the day Prince was mysterious. Very mysterious. Unless you're Myron, then you're going to go to his house for a party. Yes. Myron did do that. But besides Prince, I mean, there just aren't, I don't know,

I haven't really seen Peggy people giving him the down the road. I think people for the most part kind of understand. I mean, I haven't seen a lot of criticism of him doing it. Well, on social media, there's people giving him down the road. but my concern is the kids help. Yeah. Well, on social media, I think anybody can get criticized. I agree.

I think it makes, for me, it makes perfect sense that I agree. His health is the most important thing. And as far as Larry's doing okay, I'm just because I think, you know, he's kind of a private person. I'm not, like, given regular sort of updates just for his own privacy. some people get in their own head I actually remind myself nobody cares nobody has their own life that they're living right no one is thinking about whatever goof or whatever I've done no one is thinking about it yeah I think people sort of think that they are the same thing centerpiece of other people's thoughts. I think social media makes you think that too because people can comment on your day. But like in general, you could go through your days and probably you're not in anyone's mind. Not for more than a few seconds. Not for more than a few seconds. Because they're all worried about them what they're doing. They got their own anxiety. Yeah, they got their own thing like going, what are people thinking about this?

That's one reason I don't like Facebook because they put all this long paragraph about something and they feel about it's important in their life. Are you, I can't remember. Are you on Facebook? I'm on it. I don't think, do you follow me? Are we friends? It took them a while to get on.

But I want to make a comment about the defense change that I noticed, and it's probably been brought up. They did a great job. They did a great job. And I think it's a great thing to build on. all the good teams out there. You see Connecticut, all of them, even I think St. Johnson-Patino used to do it. You take away the three and make them make a hard two. I totally agree.
