As a matter of fact, it's only happened 13 times since 1990 in UK basketball. sides this year. So four on this team, but only 13 on the other 35 years teams. ones. Okay. So there, so those were some of the questions. And Shannon, you and Drew, Shannon especially, you might have done very well. That's right. Yeah. It's much easier with Google. It is much easier with Google. 859-280-2287. Let's start with the game tomorrow. Games at noon, early game. Hopefully the people in Knoxville will be asleep and will not show up. It is an early game against the Vols.

We have won three of the last four there, and in all three of those games, I think we thought we had zero chance of winning. We have won down there with teams that we have no business winning with. We won with that CJ Frederick Antonio Reeves. when we lost, I think, three straight and then went down there and won. We won last year. I think did we win with Reed and Rob? Reed had a big game. The COVID team that couldn't beat anybody won down there?

The COVID team. It's actually five out of six. Five out of six in Knoxville. When I was a kid, I've said this many times. The only time I ever saw Kentucky play was in Knoxville because that's where I would go with my grandfather. And we always lost every single time we went. Now it's becoming like a home court. Drew, does it extend tomorrow?

I'm not ready to commit to a side, but I believe that Kentucky is going to be at it. Even though I have lots of worries about this team like everyone else, you just said it. The way they've played in that building, the last five out of six. Last year they went down there without Lamont Butler or Andrew Carr in one. One year they went down there without Severe Wheeler, Kays and Wallace gets in foul trouble. That was when Frederick has the game. They've just been able to string wins down there together when people least expected. I mean, they were an 11-point underdog, a 13-point underdog, and won both of those outright.

So I think Kentucky will be in the mix. I think the only time we've lost down there recently was the second Oscar team. I think besides that. It was a year before reading Rob. Yeah, the second. We have won since COVID, even though it feels very disappointing since COVID. We've won down there every time except the second Oscar team. What do you think?

I just got to hope that the way they found themselves in the second half against LSU, that carries over. You know, you can't afford to get down on the road, you know, and then some of these SEC tournament games, SEC regular season games, and come back and win it. You just got to continue that. Don't get down. It's at noon. Maybe we'll wake up faster than they will. I don't know.

But how do you feel about it, though? I'm not on a dream. I'm not ready to commit yet for a win. Me neither. So no one's committed. They're 10-0 at home. They almost lost the double overtime a couple of nights ago to Texas. They are 10-0 at home, but I think it's a little bit of a misleading stat

because they could have lost a couple games at home against teams that aren't great. I will note that every time we've won down there, a random person has come off the bench or something in play. Well, last year, Trent Noah had a big game down there. You may remember this was the game a few years ago that Antonio Reeves broke out. He had not even been playing. And then he went down there and he and C.J. Frederick both had big games. I think Reed played really well down there.

And at that point, hadn't played a ton. That was kind of a game that got him spurred. Everybody was talking about Dalton Connect. And Reed went down there and got 27. Yeah. We've had a lot of games where guys have kind of stepped to the forefront that haven't been the biggest player up until that point. Is there someone that it could be today on our team tomorrow?

Is this, I mean, Trit Noah hasn't played at all. Does he go down there? Maybe get some minutes and, you know. I have mine. This is an easy answer. Y'all buckle up. It's a Yelovich game. Yellovich.

Get ready. Get ready. We almost saw more Yelovich in Baton Rouge. He had, what do you play, like 15, 20 minutes. He played 20. Did well in his first starting role. I think he takes another step forward in Knoxville. They have a lot of size, too.

They're big dude, really Moreno, Garrison, all the guys will have to throw some bodies at Carney. I mean, he's a unit. He's one of the best big guys in the SEC just size-wise. Yeah, they have Cardi and then their freshman that had all this hype, Nate Ayman. He played really poorly in the non-conference, but has started to look like the star rye that people thought he'd be in the last three or four games. I mean, he had been maybe the biggest disappointment in the country as a freshman, and he really has started to turn it on.

Yeah, the overtime against A&M, he scored like their first eight points in the first overtime and second overtime. He kind of just took over. You got that Gillespie dude that runs their point. He's going to be a load to kind of handle, but they're kind of guard heavy. They kind of rely on those three guards out there. The good thing is they don't put up a lot of points in general, and that's something that we don't either. So, Shannon, that might be a way for us to be able to win. I just think this game on the road is critical to get off to a good start, and we've seen the team struggle so much the last, well, really all season.

Really the whole Pope era. Yeah. We have not started well. Now, to be fair, we've been a good second half team, but we have been, we've got to stop doing that. You can't get down, I think, in this atmosphere, you know, when the fans get into it, that's a tough road to come back from. Yeah, this is the Food City Center. It's no longer Thompson Bowling. We're 2 in the Food City City City.

Whoa. After they made fun of Kroger Field for years, they went and named Thompson Bowling, the Food City Center, and we're undefeated there. I learned something, by the way, on the trivia, I did the eight places that sell the most groceries. Some of them you would guess, Walmart, Kroger, Target. at Costco. Eighth is food line, and I didn't even know there were still food lines. I've never heard of a food line. You've never heard of a food line?

No, where would I find a food line back in the day? Like everywhere? I feel like Tennessee had food lines. The fact they were all over the south. I think it was a southern thing for a long time. So they're making more luxury suites, they're putting more stuff in the luxury areas,

and then if you sit in the worst parts of the stadium, basically the very top behind the goal, now you have seatbacks. Is that how you read it? Yeah, they're adding a lot more seatbacks to the, upper level. One thing I like they're doing, I need to see it in action is a lot of pro stadiums have like standing areas. They're going to kind of create a table. You can be social. I love that when you go to game and your friends are in another part of the area. Like, hey, meet me in the end zone. UK is adding kind of a form of that. That was of all the things they're

adding. I think that's the most that can impact a lot of people that aren't just, you know, in the, in the luxury areas. Yeah. I mean, when I looked at it, I've kind of been, I mean, I still think like we've got to find a way to get Wi-Fi. Although, to be fair to them, the cell phone service is a lot better in that stadium than it used to be. It used to be when you were going that stadium. It was just a dead zone. You couldn't use your phone. You can, for the most part, use it.

It might not be able to send video, but you can, for the most part, use it. But now I sort of read all the changes as Ryan. They've got to continue to do stuff to make money. And so it is luxury stuff to try to continue to increase revenue for this new era of paying players, etc. Yeah, you want people to come to the game. and, you know, the crowd has been diminishing over the years. Now you're going to make it a better experience. Well, but, I mean, it's a small, for a small set of people.

I mean, it is for these luxury areas. And, I mean, the seatbacks at the top, I do think, help. I think it helps. That's where I sit a lot of times up there. So now a lot of times I would let her stay at home. Were you in the luxury seats or the nose leads? Let's, let's pause right there. You tell me you sit at the top.

You want to look at these five people here at Wilde, You want to look at these people and tell them that you sit at the top. Josiah's here. He'll tell you how many times we set up there because he got a player pass, and that's where they put the player's recruit pass up there. Okay. Ask him. I feel like I remember a lot of sitting like fourth row, Drew, with the keys.

They're also adding to the, I don't know who sponsors it now, Keenland, whatever, that middle area at the 50. They're adding more seats into that where there's a big standing area. It's said they're going to try to put more seats into that.

I love that idea. That's still on the high end of fans. Let's talk about football for just a second in terms of players. The sort of period to make decisions is ending quickly, right? When does it end this weekend? Today. Today. So today is kind of commitment day.

Kentucky had over the last two or three days, Kentucky has had three wide receivers here. I think there's an offensive lineman here. edge rusher. A lot of people think this wide receiver from LSU might Washington. Yeah, he's been on campus already. He may commit today. They had a couple people coming in on the 6 a.m. flights today into Lexington, but I think you're going to have a really good idea of what Kentucky's roster is, Drew, at the end of the day today. Definitely. Stein's done a great job to this point, and even the national conversations around it are kind of blowing my mind how excited people are that are neutral parties. But wide

receiver is still a concern. You've got pass blockers and guys who can throw, but he hadn't added too many that can catch yet. And Washington can be that guy. He was a huge recruit. Goes to LSU, had some injuries, some other issues. He was Oklahoma first, right? Originally in Oklahoma committed. In LSU. I mean, that's a, I think it was a top 200 guy. That could be your wide receiver one. He was on campus yesterday. Who knows? Maybe they convinced him not to leave. I don't know how far that went, but that's the one to watch. Would you say, Shannon, I would argue that the Will Stein recruiting era. So, like, if you're going through the things a new coach has to do,

they have to do well at the press conference, check. Yes. Right? I think they have to have their mother make good cakes, check. Yes. Yes. His mother makes the – I'm still going to try them. I'm telling you, I can see why Ryan ate the entire first box.

They're really good. They genuinely are really good. Then you need to do well in your first recruiting class. I think double check. I mean, they've basically, and they've done it in what Mark Stoops won with. We got the best offensive line of any team in the portal. Three out of the top five. Nobody in the portal, nobody in the country did better on the offensive line than we did.

Now, Drew's right, the one issue is wide receiver. Hopefully they take care of that today. But I think as far as Will Stein up until this point, granted we haven't played any games, I think he's done amazing. And let's keep in mind he was doing a lot of that while he was also the, the offensive coordinator for Oregon in the playoffs. So that multitasking is off the chart. It really is unbelievable.

Mitch Barnhart said yesterday, when I envisioned what it would be like if he had to do two jobs, Ryan, he said he's done it twice as good as I thought he could. He's killed it. And that's credit to his staff, too, the guys that were hearing boots on the ground doing stuff when he was out in Oregon. Sloan's bringing maybe this guy from LSU. I'm sure he had a relationship with him. The offensive tackle we got from Tennessee, Sloan had a relationship with that guy.

So those guys are doing their job, too. You've got to give them a lot of credit. I mean, he's gotten a lot of excitement. Now, of course, they're going to play probably the hardest schedule in the history of UK football next year. But we'll get a little honeymoon period, kind of like Pope the first year, you know. No, I agree. I think he gets, but I think we're going to be competitive. Do you?

Oh, absolutely. Especially seeing these national guys that I trust in, let's do for a long time, talking about how they believe in Kentucky. When this program's done well, we've either had star quarterback or great offensive line. Florida came back, led by eight in the second half, but then Kentucky's women come through at the end, get the victory, and now 17 and 2 riding on the season. But that was a tough win last night. You know, we were playing trivia. I know they got such a big lead. I kind of lost track of the game.

You came by and you said, they're behind. LSU had scored, I mean, Florida had scored 35 points, I think, in the third quarter alone, just went nuts in the third quarter to retake the lead. But Kentucky's women get it. The Kentucky women, I watched all of that game while I was kind of letting everybody do the trivia. you, they do have a hard time guard people. But people have a hard time guarding them. They have such a hide advantage.

They can score and they make threes. So they get beat off the dribble a lot, but they find a way Drew to come back on the other end and get offense. And some of that's, yeah, go inside where we have a stack of towers in there. I know last night Keyes been injured and Clara Strack had a little foul trouble, but Tony Morgan had another huge game. I know when they signed her, it's big shoes to fill with Georgia Amor going pro, but she's had an excellent start to the season, halfway through the season, I guess.

They were coming out slow starting, and he had him in warm-ups. It sounds like a shower. But I do remember they did this for a while to try to keep his team from starting so slow. Not five-on-five half-court, but they were trying to do something during pregame warm-up. Trying to trick them into thinking the game already started once the game starts? I think you're thinking about what they do with horses. I don't think that's exactly the same thing. But I think it would be hilarious. Like while teams are getting ready for the national anthem, Kentucky is playing a basketball game.

They're like, National Guard, I need you to move over. We still got to go to 10. You know what? I don't hate it. Let's try it out. I mean, obviously, what we're doing is not working. Let's play full speed. I want guys hands on their knees at the jump ball to start the game because they're already sweating and tired.

Analytics are good, and I'm pro-analytic, but sometimes your eyeballs, just use those and they tell the story. And when you have guys giving half effort, that doesn't show up in whatever formula you're putting into your iPad. And I think after a while, Pope just had to look up and see, this isn't working. I just got to play the best dudes and ride with them. What was the story that Jack said about Diabate?

There's some internet scuttle butt that Diabate was late to like the film session on Monday. Yeah, so there's some talk that maybe Diabate got binged because he missed or at least missed part of film study on Monday. I have to say I've been very disappointed with Diabate, not even so much as play as just actions. I got sent some quotes yesterday that I hadn't seen, which were Ryan about Diabate at Alabama. Nate Oates throughout that year in Alabama going,

if we can just get Diabate to focus, if we can just get Diabate to keep his mind on the court. Like all these quotes from when Nate Oates, this has obviously been a consistent problem with him that I really didn't know. Obviously, we all see it. They just play better when he's not out there. He had, what, two good games where he squared like 20 points, one of these early games this season.

But outside of that, he's kind of been a non-factor in most of our games. He just needs to be a guy that comes off the bench and gets rebounds play defense, which is exactly what Nate Oates did with him. We paid him a lot to be something bigger. And as we've seen, when he tries to do something with the ball, he just not skilled. That three he took wins and aides. I mean, he shoots the ball, Shannon from three, like from his belly butt. Yeah.

And then he like pushes it up and I just I never think it's going in. And then the thing with the teammates too, it doesn't seem to be just bickering with teammates. Coaches too. Yeah, with that said, when we hit the game winning shot, nobody ran on the floor faster than him. Very true. I mean, he was he was out there celebrating and out there with his teammates quicker than anybody else. So, I mean, there is, you know, there is that as well. Who's next?

Donnie is up next. Donnie, go ahead, Donnie. When I'm sitting on the couch in my living room, watching Diobonte take a three, I just, I pull my hair out. And I love Pope. Don't get me wrong. But, golly, I would take him out of the game and I would burn his ears going to the bench. But he, it's a big of course.

God. But anyway, well, anyway, what I would do on the quick, on the slow start, I would take the starting five out, and I would burn their ears on the way to the bench. You're big on the ear burning. One more comment, Matt, and I let you go. And it showed its ugly head again the last game. I hope these guys are listening to this, the ball players. My gosh, we act like we've never seen a pick in basketball.

Here's what I would say to them. All the players switch on. Every pick, switch on every pick and go from there. Yeah, well, I appreciate the call. I think Pope probably doesn't want them to switch on every pick because you can get some mismatches. But I thought they were better. Now, LSU just hit a bunch of good shots, too, in that second half.

I mean, first half, they had open looks. Second half, they hit some, you know, they hit some good shots. The problem was we were so far behind. We're here at Wild Eggs. Great food. One of the most crazy things I can ever remember, Rod Winkler, a legend, mostly a heel legend of the KSR era. You may remember in 2014 when we played at Arkansas and someone tried to fight Aaron Harrison after the game, a student named Rod Winkler. He came on the show when it was the next day.

he gave the famous, he a man like you a man, like I'm a man, and then, oh, you got it all wrong. Yep. You've heard those drops. If Shannon was in studio, he would play them. Rod Winkler tried to fight Aaron Harrison in 2014. Yesterday, part of the college basketball gambling scandal, 20 people in the FBI investigation that were arrested, one of them was Rod Winkler, age 31, who at the age of 19, tried to fight Aaron Harrison at a UK basketball game while a student at Arkansas, and now 12 years later,

the scandal that brought in 17 college basketball players across the country, Ryan, includes Rod Winkler. Is that not amazing? There's that picture of him squaring up against Aaron Harrison, and I thought it was just so crazy at the time he came on the show the next day. This is even crazier. He pops up seven years later in this scandal. What year do you think it is?

I just said seven. It was 14, Ryan. Let's do some math. It's 2026. It's good. It's good. It's going to be double digits. Got to be.

12. 12. So it was 12 years ago. I have to say, somebody sent me that, and I was like, what are the chances it would be the same guy?

Then I saw he was in Little Rock Arc. I can't believe it's the same guy, Drew. I spent, I think I pulled an all-nighter at that time, photoshopping him on different stuff. We had him on the show. And then I closed my Rod Winkler book and didn't think I'd ever open it again.

I didn't think Rod Winkler would ever our lives again. Then we get this big scandal and right there is his name. How is it, Shannon, that you can have two different things in your life with no connection. Yeah. That are such big stories that you are in the middle. Neither of them good. You tried to fight a player and now you might be going to federal prison for trying to fix college basketball games. Well, at least we know he knows how to you know he's a big college basketball fan? That's true. Yeah, life is wild, huh? I mean, that guy, we, we, we know he knows how to be in prison. We know he's in prison. We're in prison. We're in prison. We're in Yeah, life is wild, huh?

I mean, that guy, we only know his name for those two reasons. So more details of that scandal came out. 17 different teams involved. The details of the scandal are insane. I don't know how these people did not think they were going to get caught. There was one instance a guy placed a $545,000 bet on Kent State Buffalo first half line. Nothing suspicious about that at all. First half line.

How did they think they weren't going to get caught? One of them was a Southern Miss basketball game, $275,000 on Southern Miss to cover, placed at a Kentucky casino. Saw that one on there. I mean, there were some wild bets. Drew, you know, I understand that there are people who think there's too, like gambling's too much a part of sports.

I get it. I actually think I can understand that. argument. I also would say to you, though, however, the reason this stuff gets caught is because it's legal. Like, that's why it gets caught, because when you make a $500,000 bet on Kent State Buffalo first half, it raises some people going, what? I love that we jump right to $500,000. I would maybe ease into it a little bit. You know, maybe go like a couple of hundred at first. Let's not make it too obvious. That's the thing. You know they're in a group like, all right, guys. Small bets. Spaceout. Ohio, Illinois, and then one guys in Kentucky, like $500,000 on Kent.

Busted. Buffalo first. Is the thought process of these guys are going to bet on these minor mid-college games, maybe slide it by, nobody's going to notice? Oh, no, I think the theory is, well, first of all, it would be fit. The theory would be it's easier to fix games where people aren't paying attention, right? So if Kentucky is playing Arkansas, the game's on national TV, if one guy's just dogging it, you can tell, right?

But who's watching Kent State Buffalo? Right. Nobody. Nobody's watching it. It's easier to get access to the players. And the federal prosecutor said every player in the report had not gotten an NIL money. So part of it may be, look, these guys aren't making any money. Cut them in.

You're trying to cut them in. I'll also note, Rod Winkler is not the only name from Scandals Past. Antonio Blakeney, who Drew mentioned yesterday, does anybody remember where his name ended up? He was one of the two recruits that Ketina. a pal tried to get hookers for him. Oh, one of him real bad. Yes. He was one of the two Katina Powell recruits.

Was Antonio Blakeney, the famous blonde hair, blue eyes, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That was for Antonio Blakeney. So these two crazy names from the past, Drew, come back in this college gambling report. Yeah, there's not that many people named. What was it, 20, and we know two of them, a little bit of a connection to? personally, but we remember them from the past. Yeah, Blatney's got a wild journey. He's probably going to be going away for a while.

He'll have plenty of time to write a book. I would like to know what all he did throughout basketball, other than playing basketball. Even though college basketball's got a lot of the attention, the biggest money parts of the indictment were in Chinese basketball. And they quoted one of the gamblers in a phone call they had recorded. He said there are only three things assured in life. Death, taxes, and fixed.

Chinese basketball games. Wow. I kind of want to watch some Chinese basketball just to see how blatant it is that they're cheating. Death taxes and fixed Chinese. I'll also say a guy in Idaho bet $350,000 on a Chinese

basketball game. That in and of itself, you should be arrested for stupidity just for placing that bet, I would argue. Yeah, even if you didn't have any intel at all, you were just picking one that you shouldn't live amongst us if you're putting $300,000 on a Chinese basketball. Who's next? Cadence is next.

Cadence. Go ahead, Cadence. Yeah, so I did read that report yesterday. I thought that was the craziest thing I think I've ever read in my life. Chinese basketball is definitely like not something I think I've bet on. But anyway, I do want to say that Will Stein has done an absolute great job in this portal. I think if we get Nick Anderson, we have potential. maybe be an eight and four team like not trying to over each standard well i'm feeling i'm feeling good yeah if they get nick anderson that's a great that's a great wide receiver get for

them i still think they're probably a little short by the way i got asked i appreciate the call about when he first came here i said that i thought they were going to bring four to five organ guys that i think was the original plan i had one of the people on the staff say we think we'll get four to five Oregon guys. It doesn't, at least as of yet, they haven't gotten any. I kind of wonder, Ryan, if maybe Oregon said, hey, since we're letting you stay here to call this and all this, maybe we don't steal our players. Do you think that might have?

I haven't talked to anybody to get the update, but. I'm with you. The feeling was I think he was going to bring several guys with him in that. I do wonder if maybe there was some conversation during that leading the playoff of, look, man. Could be. That could be a bad look because they haven't done that. We'll take a break.
