Starting point is 00:03:05 Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-2-80-2287. Text machine is 772-774-5254. People were mentioning friends of celebrities that were friends. What about Shannon are George Clooney and Brad Pitt that good of friends? I didn't know they were friends at all.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Did you either? I think just because they were in a couple movies together. Doesn't mean your friends. Yes. I think it's hard. What about Steve Martin and Martin Short? They seem like friends. I think they're friends now.
Starting point is 00:03:46 I don't know if they were friends growing up like Matt Damon and Ben Affle. Yeah. Well, maybe not. If I'm 9-280-2287, let's talk just a little bit. about the national title game last night. I don't want to talk about it because it bums me out that Indiana is going to have a national championship. It is certainly however deserved.
Starting point is 00:04:06 You could argue one of, maybe not the best, but one of the best college football performances ever. What's better? What is better? Well, I mean, I was making the argument that if they won that game by a huge margin, then you would have to put them up there because some of the best teams won by huge margins. I think the LSU team with Burrow, the Miami team with all those guys in like 1998 or
Starting point is 00:04:33 whatever, maybe one or two of those Sabin Alabama teams. But this is definitely in the conversation. And you also have the number one future pick. So it's not like you got just some yokel. But it's Indiana football, though. I mean, LSU Alabama comparing that to Indiana football. I don't think there is a comparison. But that's, yeah, but the question is who's the best team, not what's the best story.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Indiana is the best story ever, and it's not even close. Yeah. But the question is, if they were to play, who's the best team? And I think that's a little more unclear. But I will say, Drew, I'm very jealous of Indiana fans. I saw a picture of Signetti's first game in Indiana. Did you see that? There was no one there.
Starting point is 00:05:13 You have the crowd shot. They had more fans in Miami than Miami, which is kind of unbelievable. I mean, it wouldn't be. if you're a Hoosier fan, when would there have ever been a better time in your sporting life? There's not. I wish we could just take the Indiana logo off because otherwise they're so likable. Like, how can you not like Mendoza? Not just that awesome run for that touchdown, but every time they interview him,
Starting point is 00:05:41 it's like he's a robot that's been trained how to say all the right things in the media. He did. He did cuss a little bit. It slipped. But if it just wasn't the stinking Hoosiers, there's a little bit. so much to like about them. That little logo does take away from it. But I was happy for Mendoza, not Indiana, but he's a likable guy. And I'm glad he got to punch it in. I was actually rooting for them over Miami, even though it is our basketball rival. I thought he said a bad
Starting point is 00:06:07 word. He wouldn't say that. There's no way he said, I must have misheard him. Did he actually say? He said it. Wow. I think he said like, rhymes with Chuck. I think he said it. I thought I heard that. There's no way that guy says that. They let it go. Yeah, they did. It didn't bleep it. It didn't even It didn't even acknowledge it when it was over. So it is an amazing story. I think it's the most amazing accomplishment in college sports, and it's probably up there with one of the most amazing accomplishments in sports. It also, Ryan is going to get a lot of coaches fired,
Starting point is 00:06:39 which is there's going to be a lot of people who are going to see what Kurt Signetti did in Indiana and go, well, why can't we do that here? Right. So I think Signetti is going to be somebody that many years from now, people find a way to send to the door because they're not able to accomplish what he has. You know, I'm super happy Indiana 1. And the reason is, because at 1130 last night, my 84-year-old dad called me because he was so excited thinking this would never happen. All my childhood friends are sending me text messages.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Can you believe we won? Can you believe they did this? I used to go to Indiana football games. No problem getting the ticket. You could sit wherever you want because there was no. nobody there. The worst college game I ever saw, Kentucky beat Indiana three to nothing over here Commonwealth State. Back in the 90s, yeah, I remember. It was the worst game ever. And when Kentucky had the longest losing streak in America, you know who they beat to break the streak?
Starting point is 00:07:37 Indiana. So that's why it's just crazy for all of us in Kentucky to know that Indiana is now atop the college football world. But you're happy about it? I'm happy because it made my dad happy, made my friends happy. So I'm happy for them. Yeah, I'm not happy, Shannon. I mean, I acknowledge what they've done, but I don't like their glee. I, you know. But you don't see that and go, well, that could be Kentucky. Kentucky can do that now.
Starting point is 00:08:04 That gives us hope. It's interesting because it's like if you grow up in a small town, Shannon. Think about this. Let's say you have four friends and you all play the lottery, all five of them. And me and you play, but then our friends, Boomer, Coomer and Doomer play. Um, Um, um,
Starting point is 00:08:22 he's not winning with that name. But the, and then one day we get, we get a message, Coomer has won the lottery. Right. And Coomber now is the toast of the town. He gets him a new house,
Starting point is 00:08:34 uh, gets a boat. He's traveling. And Coomber is living the life we always wanted to live. But, so we're happy for him kind of in theory. And it also means it could happen to us, but then it didn't.
Starting point is 00:08:48 And we have to watch Coomer rub it in our noses. Are you going to be still happy for Coomer? Are you going to be like, man, Coomber, get out of you? It depends on if Coomber wants to get me some of that money, which I assume Indiana is not going to be giving to Kentucky any money. I know, right, yeah. When you put it like that, it's a little different, I guess. But I still think that, you know, that could be Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:09:09 We can get to the playoffs. It takes a big person to cheer for Coomber. Yeah. I think like Ryan would cheer for Coomber. Yeah. Shannon, you would not cheer for Coffered. No, only if he gave me money. I would be.
Starting point is 00:09:19 I'd be trying to steal this ticket. So I do think there's a little bit of that, Ryan, with me. I feel like, though, Indiana has almost earned it. They beat what? The Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon twice, and Miami. Yeah. I mean, it's crazy. No, it's not a fluke at all.
Starting point is 00:09:37 And the argument, Shannon, for why it would be the best, would be that run, right? That you say you beat Oregon twice, Alabama, Ohio, State, Miami. That's a pretty good group to take down to win the whole bunch. Yeah. And Alabama just manhandle them. Alabama wasn't even recognizable in that game. Yeah. Well, congrats the Hoosiers.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Let's just get this over with. Put stupid truth on. Oh, yeah. Truth is ready. He's ready to go. Oh, no. Truth. Hello.
Starting point is 00:10:08 How are you, truth? Hey, man, how you doing? I want the first thing, man, I always want to know how your dad doing because we constantly pray for him every day. And that's the same thing. No more reason I want to. to call it because you're still my friend and family. I love your mother
Starting point is 00:10:26 and I love your father. Thank you very much, sir. All right, man, let's get too business. Let's get to this. First thing, man, first thing, business about, man, I was in South Carolina last Friday
Starting point is 00:10:40 and I went to South Carolina because a lady passed away and I meet this lady she said, I heard your voice before. I said, where is? on the radio and she told me I thought I was the truth but I end up they didn't
Starting point is 00:10:56 have a minister due to her funeral so I came to 11 hours and I done the funeral so you were just coming to the funeral to go and you ended up being the minister? Yeah cause man I'm the reason why
Starting point is 00:11:12 you know people discriminate because people of the sex get married and they was judgment so the lady died December 28 so They couldn't find a preacher. My school was my friend. So you, a gay wedding and you, you did the service for them because they couldn't get anyone else.
Starting point is 00:11:32 That's very nice of you, truth. Well, that's good, man. Yeah, and I thank God for that. But let's get back to our. Before we get to the Hoosiers, let me ask you this. What's your message to couples? Like if there's a couple listening here and you were to give some truth relationship message advice, what would it be? Matt, here's how I look at that.
Starting point is 00:11:55 I leave it up to the individual because I'm not the judge. And I just, I don't, I'm not a judgmental person because I feel like that people, if you love somebody, it's between you're and God and you know what, you know you can't make me as a thoroughbred, so you got to match them up. So if you want to marry a meal, you marry me. If you want to marry third bread, you want to marry thoroughbred. So that's where I look at it. This is an inspiring message for your wedding, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Yeah, exactly, right? Yeah, truth, I think we should refine that message. I don't think anybody out there wedding wants to be called a mule. Well, see, you got to look. If you're a mule, you don't want a mule-faced woman. I don't think you're going to talk about male-faced women at that. I don't think, I mean, I think in most weddings I've been to that they are not describing in detail the faces of the women in terms of animals. No, I'm talking about the.
Starting point is 00:12:50 attitude. You know, when you talk about, if you're a third bread, you don't mention a miss a third bread. A third bread running in the derby, a new carry out logs. Right? Are you following this? I'm trying. I'm trying.
Starting point is 00:13:05 You got to match them up. What is your go-to Bible verse for your, for your ceremonies? John 316 for God so low the world. He gave us. I mean, that's a great one, but I think everybody knows that one. also really doesn't have anything to do with marriage. Do you have one for marriage? So he that found a wife, found a good thing, and obtained favor with the Lord.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Proverbs 1822. Wow. There we go. This is why, like you. Not one man. There's not a meal there either. Proverbs 1822. He who finds a wife.
Starting point is 00:13:41 He finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. You got it exactly right. Man, man. Listen, you're not going to, listen, I'm going to talk about Indiana. Listen, let me tell you something, Matt Jones. I have been, I've been an Indiana fan for 62 years. I have seen the SEC beat up on me, and I have cried and I cry. Last night, I went to sleep, Matt, Jones.
Starting point is 00:14:08 This is true story. I woke up at 9 o'clock. I have to pinch myself and said, God, did Indiana win the state, win the national championship? What did God say? And I looked at and turned on TV, and guess what? They show it. But, you know, you know what makes me, you know, when you talk about people, about being passionate with fans, you're a passion UK fan.
Starting point is 00:14:33 I am a passion by IU. You know, people say, and I like Kentucky. I like Louis. Because we live in there. But I'm passionate for Indiana. I was happy for you. I was happy for you. You won the title.
Starting point is 00:14:48 You deserve to be happy. And now that I know that you do weddings, when people write me and say that they need a wedding venue or a wedding, you know, somebody to oversee it, I'm going to send them to you, okay? Well, I don't marry everybody. I'm going to be honest with you now. I knew these people. I'm not a good friend, but I don't marry everybody. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:15:15 That would marry everybody. All right. Well, thank you very much. I appreciate it. Thank you. I got one more thing to say. No, that's plenty of things. You were up for seven minutes.
Starting point is 00:15:22 That's plenty of things. You like Lenny like J.C. Pinnett and you got picked up. There you go. Classic truth. That is truth right there. He calls it to talk smack about Indiana and didn't even get to it. Would you want to be in a truth wedding, Drew? Oh, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:15:42 You would. 100%. I was locked into everything you was saying there. I still didn't even know what I was listening. I don't know what he said. But I was locked in. I don't know. Again, I don't listen to a lot of wedding ceremonies, what they're actually saying.
Starting point is 00:15:55 It's usually about the, you know, we will walk hand in hand. I don't see. But I don't hear Muleface a lot at ceremonies. But maybe you just do it a different way if you're the truth. Do you like that you were able to have them on that long and not even mention Indiana football somehow. You distracted them. That was the goal. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:16:14 Let's go to Matt. Matt got about a minute. Hey, Matt. KSR crew, how you guys doing this morning. Doing good. I've got two things, and I'm going to hang up and let you talk about it. I'm actually loving the stretch that we're in right now with the basketball team. I think that they're showing some fight.
Starting point is 00:16:34 They got fire in their bellies. I think they're jelling right now. And if this is going to be their identity for the rest of the season, this was my second thing. Everybody wants to throw out that generic comeback cats. I'm calling these cats the rally cats. And how awesome would it be coming out of a hat bomb? The fan base in the arena, they turn their ball caps over to the rally caps,
Starting point is 00:17:02 show this team that we're behind them. Go caps. But the basketball team doesn't wear caps. And you're saying the fans. If you're wearing a hat, show up with your hat on. But I'm not going to call the team the rally caps if they don't have caps. That's just would be for us. The rally cats, I think is what are you saying?
Starting point is 00:17:24 Rally cats. You wear your rally cat. And the people in the crowd turn your hat inside out when they come out at halftime. Yeah. I'd do it if we had cats that we had on our head. And we were the rally cats. Cat heads. Yeah, I would like that.

I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. and we don't know when we've done enough.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:19:36 And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:19:54 Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across.
Starting point is 00:20:23 When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:21:18 Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. It's about once a year we get calls saying, what are we going to call this team? It's been a regular feature since the, what was the Domain, Devastation Incorporate. That was a great name. Devastation Incorporated was the one many, many years ago. So it's now, they've won a couple games, so we get this. You said during the break, Shannon, someone called and suggested.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Guy called in, didn't want to be on the air. and now I know after he gave me his suggestion, which is, I think, the worst name I've ever heard for a team. He said, we should call them the second half-a-bables. That's awesome. Worst name I've ever heard. I don't know what made him think that's a good name
Starting point is 00:22:05 or idea. Half-a-Bals, right? Stop it. Stop leaning into the second half-a-bables. The second half-bables. There's no ring to it. Here come the second half-a-bables. Or all the old teams had un, we could be like
Starting point is 00:22:18 the un-first halfables. There we go. That works? The second half-a-bables is the worst name ever. Okay, what about the second half-path? That's even done. It's like a half-past. Clawback cats.
Starting point is 00:22:36 That came up on the post-game show. Clawback, okay. We got this fascination, we got to give every team a nickname. I hate it. But if we're going to give one, how about second-half cats? No. I like that. One person writes, Matt, I use you guys to decide what I'm going to think on issues of national importance.
Starting point is 00:22:54 That's a good idea, by the way. Use the four of us. What do each of you four think we should do about Greenland? So I guess the options are, nothing, be like it was. Invade them and end NATO with an invasion of Greenland. or reach a deal where we buy it and give all the citizens $100 to $150,000 each. And we have to hope that they actually vote for that. Which are any of those three, what would you do, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:23:29 Well, Greenland has already made it very clear. They are not for sale. So take that off the table. So now we either do nothing or we invade them. And I would not ever be for just invading a country just because we want them. So I think you do nothing. and you let Greenland be Greenland. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Was Greenland bothering you? No. I mean, to me, this is no different from Russia just trying to overtake Ukraine. We're just going to come in and just take your country because we can. I mean, if we do this, China will overtake Taiwan. Russia will take Crimea and they'll go, well, you did it. So I do think that's an issue. What about you, Ryan?
Starting point is 00:24:07 Would you be willing to give any money? You know, I'm almost 60 years old. And now once in my life. life. Not one time have I ever thought to myself. I heard somebody say, hey, we should probably do something about Greenland. Never has it come up in my thought process, never come in any conversation. Greenland's never bothered us. Leave them alone. Do nothing. All right. So that's two votes for that. Drew. I just didn't realize that we were so perfect over here. We could worry about other places. I kind of feel like we should work on ourselves before we stop shopping around. So I say let's look inward at
Starting point is 00:24:42 America and fix that and let Greenland be Greenland a little longer. We don't need other distractions and other things to worry about. We got plenty of issues here that need to be fixed. Yeah, New Year, New Year, new you need to focus on yourself, right? Like there's no reason. There's no reason they're trying to worry about outsiders. Yeah, Shannon, we need to look in the mirror and say, what do we need to do for ourselves? Yeah, I mean, I'm good with just letting them be who they are.
Starting point is 00:25:04 Let them be who they sell, as where I would say. Be proud of who you sell, Greenland. Exactly. Yeah. Well, all right. So it's 4-0 do not invade Greenland. The Kentucky legislature has started. One of the things that is up is banning all player props for college games.
Starting point is 00:25:24 For it or against it? I'm definitely against it. We're on the road sometimes. We get in those states where we can't do our player props. It always ticks us all off. So I'm against it. Let it happen. I like where it is now.
Starting point is 00:25:37 There's no unders. It's only overs. I mean, if they want to bet on themselves to go get an over. I mean, you're already trying to do your best. So I wouldn't take them away, but I understand why you don't have unders because that's where guys are able to cook it a little bit. I kind of agree with you. I think the way it's developed to where now there's no unders works for me. I mean, it's not the worst thing in the world if you lose player props.
Starting point is 00:25:59 But I think it also misses the point, which is then all those player prop bets will just go underground and they'll be harder to track. So, I mean, they're not going to go away. So, you know, it kind of is what it is. What about you, Shand? I like the player props, but I'm kind of with Drew, you know, do the overs. Like he said, if you want to bet on yourself to do the over, then it's fine. But you're not going to just go out there and purposely tank to win a bet and scam everybody. The problem with the overs is now the sports books can make it a little higher because there's not an other side.
Starting point is 00:26:29 So that's the only negative of the overs. That is the negative. There's only one thing to bet on. They can move the numbers a little bit. It doesn't balance out. Did you see the two hockey goalies fight yesterday? They skated from each end of the ring and met in the middle and fought. With all their stuff on?
Starting point is 00:26:48 Yeah, they had their stuff on and they got to fight. The sharks and the panthers. You need to see the video. One of them took off from the other end of the room and just came down. I was like, I guess I have to fight you. Because everyone on the team was fighting. And, Shannon, I guess they felt like they had to fight too. So I don't know that they interacted with each other the whole game.
Starting point is 00:27:04 They're on opposite sides of the eyes. Yeah, you're talking trash all the way on the other end. Right? I think they just were like, our teammates are fighting and we have to fight. And maybe we like each other, right? Maybe we have a heated rivalry. But we still have to fight because that's what we have to do, Drew. I always see this is like they're the like the final boss for each team.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Normally they'll just let the other players fight. But when it's time and it's gotten so big, it's like they lock eyes. Like, all right, here we go. We're the heavyweights. And that's what you're coming to watch anyway. You want to see a fight. You don't care about the scoring. Yes.
Starting point is 00:27:37 But I could also see like if you were. and if you played with like a Ryan Lemon who's always fighting or Brandon Garrison and you were the goalie and you're like I got into this to be a goalie and I did not get into this to fight people and now because of you I have to go and fight
Starting point is 00:27:52 and Brandon Garrison you always make me fight in all these games and if I don't go fight you can see how that might be annoying you look like a feline as we talked about earlier so you got to go fight right you got to go fight you don't want to be the one guy on the team that doesn't fight I wouldn't want to be Ryan would be that guy for this team he would get us
Starting point is 00:28:09 into fights all the time. And I'd go, do you mean I have to go punch Rich Eisen? Really? And the answer will be yes, because Ryan did it. Who's next? Todd. Todd. Go ahead, Todd.
Starting point is 00:28:20 Hey, a long-time listener, first-time caller. Who up? The gentleman that called earlier about his friend Jerry, I have no idea who that guy is, but I do know Jerry personally. I live here in Louisville, and Jerry was an absolute great guy. But there's a little second part to that story. A mutual friend of Gary. You're going to have to go quick.
Starting point is 00:28:44 I'm going quick. Mutual friend of ours lives in Knoxville, big UK fan, has season tickets on the floor at Tennessee, left the game, texting happy, had a medical emergency. Is in the hospital. Please say prayers for John Thompson. All right. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:29:00 We will do that. We'll take a break. Be right back. It's KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:29:13 See, Nirvana was on it early. That's right. They were on it early. They knew this could happen. Greenland or Mexico. Honestly, well, we may do that too. Honestly, it's been, it is such a hilarious circus to when things come out and then people immediately defend them.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Now, somebody writes, Matt, are you proud of Scott Jennings who's having all the success on CNN and started on your show. On one level, yes. Like, he's the most popular person on CNN now. But, like, all he does is, like, be a smarmy, like, right-wing guy. And I know he doesn't think those things. And so it's like, Shannon, on the one hand, I can appreciate his wrestling healed him, you know? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:58 But on the other hand, I think this stuff matters, whereas wrestling doesn't the same. so I don't, it's frustrating when I see. But with that said, like I remember him in that gold closet doing the shows at WLAX. Yeah, you know, when it's a, you know, shtick for what you're doing on the air to try to be an entertainer versus what you really believe. It's all stick with him. And it's all stick with most of these folks. And that's what makes me frustrating. One person writes, Matt, what does Drew think about the Robert Sala hiring and what do you think about the Bears?
Starting point is 00:30:33 I'll let you go first. Looks like you're going to hire handsome Robert Sala as your coach. Are you happy? Yes, cover zero listeners. No, he was my pick the last week just because I didn't like the other picks. I will say I wish he was an offensive coach with Ward and the weapons we have. He's a defensive guy, so he needs to go get a good offensive coordinator. But overall, I support the hire and we dodged a lot of the ones I thought they might do.
Starting point is 00:31:00 You were really worried about Mike McCarthy and Mike Daniels. I would have taken Mike McDaniels over Mike McCarty. I didn't want McCarthy, Nagy, a lot of these head coaches I've already seen lose. I wanted, even though Saul lost the Jets, I'm at least going to say it was the Jets and I'm going to believe in him. Do you have hope now? I mean, like part of that being a fan is having a lot.
Starting point is 00:31:20 Calm down. No, absolutely not. This is the Tennessee Titans. I'm just watching players. All these teams that have turned it around. I mean, the Patriots, the Bears, the Cs, Hawks, the Broncos, all these teams have turned it around in a year. You could be next. Yes, Amy Adams does not, Amy Adams does not own any of their teams. Amy Adams-strunk,
Starting point is 00:31:44 worst owner in sports. So we will probably trade Ward or release him with about three or four years from now because the moment we have someone that's good, it's like, oh, they're washed. Let's get rid of them. Even Kevin Byard, a safety is making plays for the Bears. We were like, oh, we can't possibly put this guy in the game. He's too old. That was two or three years ago. there are guys all over the league that were on the Titans just a couple years ago that we let walk. He's a little worked up, Shannon. We need new ownership. New ownership.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Our buildings crumbling. The Bears lost. Would you say, Ryan, where's that rank amongst the best passes of all time? Dude has no conscious. What he did against the two Packers games and at the end of the game in the Rams the other day, unbelievable that pass he threw running backwards. He ran 30 yards in the wrong direction, Shannon. Wrong direction.
Starting point is 00:32:36 I said no blinking way when he said what happened. I was like, there's no way that happened. And then it's a perfect pass in the end zone. Yeah. No conscious. How are they defending that? Like, what was that other guy doing? He must have just been.
Starting point is 00:32:50 He gave up on the play because he didn't even believe that, you know, they could get it there. They could get it there. And then they lost, which was a shame. I mean, he had a chance through an interception. But it was a great year. So I'm very happy as a bear. fan. You don't want to lose in the playoffs, but I'm happy. Now, counter that to Josh Allen,
Starting point is 00:33:07 who, you know, looks like this was his year and he didn't do it. What did you think, Shannon of all the crying from Josh Allen at the press guy? Yeah. I mean, wha. Cry about it, right? But I think they probably did have a little bit of an argument on that play that was called an interception that should have been, I mean, isn't that like the tie goes to the runner? You think he caught it? I thought he did. I thought he did. I thought. thought that he did. It's hard to say. Yeah. It's a judgment call. Did you think he caught it or did you think it was an interception? By the rule, I thought it was interception. Now, I might have some disagreements with how they
Starting point is 00:33:42 complete the catch, but we've seen that a few times, even though it stinks for Bill's fans, I think that wasn't an interception. Yeah. Of course it was interception. Just in general, let me say, I think the rules people do a relatively terrible job because they come on there and they get it wrong 33% of the time. And While I do appreciate them explaining what the rule is, sometimes they'll look and they'll say, Shannon, like, he didn't catch it. I'm looking at them catch it. Right.
Starting point is 00:34:10 And I just get mad at him. I'm like, who died and made you the rules king on television? Right. Yeah, they're wrong a lot, like you said. I think they're wrong quite a bit. Yeah. Maybe they need a new rules guy on there. Well, you know the rules.
Starting point is 00:34:24 James stratatory. I feel like he does college basketball, too. I don't know how he can know both. He does the NFL and college basketball. Nobody knows that many rules. He knows ball. Yeah. He's got one guy.
Starting point is 00:34:36 They're like, you're going to learn the balance beam. And you're going to learn how to score. Who's next? Nick. Nick, go ahead, Nick. Guys, hey, shout out to Shannon. I think I heard meat in the middle plays. We went to the radio break.
Starting point is 00:34:51 Man, I think it goes over people with head. You kill it on the music a lot, man. Like that was a, after the hockey story, that was perfect. Thank you. He's the best. Yeah. Quick question about football and basketball. when I look back through the history of Division I sports,
Starting point is 00:35:06 very few teams that have done it successfully on both fronts. We're in a different era, but Florida comes to mind. Like thousands, that was insane. I'd be fun to be a Florida fan. Can we do it on both fronts, football and basketball? That's my question. I mean, I do think you can do it now. You know, this is going to be a conversation I'm going to have with Will Stein,
Starting point is 00:35:25 hopefully on the air. Appreciate the call. I consider the new in football. Now, basketball is a different situation. I think basketball, it's still up in the air how this stuff is all going to go. But in football, you're going to have $16 to $8 million. Every team is going to have it. And they're going to have to spend it.
Starting point is 00:35:44 So every team is going to get some good players. And we've never seen that before. We've never seen every team in Power 4 be able to get good players. Kentucky is going to have some guys that they get over the next few years that are better than the guys they normally get. but I think the question is going to be if you spread the stars out at all the other schools, then the question is going to be who manages the back 75% of their roster the best. And Drew, I think that's where Kentucky can really make an impact.
Starting point is 00:36:15 We probably won't get, we'll get stars. They might not be Alabama stars, LSU stars, etc., but they're still going to be stars. But then can we manage that money on the back end better than these other schools do? And there will be teams that have it all figured out where they're doing in both, maybe not competing for an actual championship in both, but being very successful. Hell, just a week ago, Vanderbilt's men's and women's basketball teams were undefeated. They were combined 33 and O and their football team was knocking on the door of the
Starting point is 00:36:45 playoff, and that's Vanderbilt. So some of these teams... But their AD though, it's a business woman. Yeah, some of these teams will figure out how to sustain it. They brought in a woman from the world of business. Not somebody Ryan who grew up in athletics departments. This is somebody, they brought in a woman from the world of business. business to run the athletic department.
Starting point is 00:37:02 Some Vandy fans are like, oh, she didn't play anything, and she's ended up making that athletic department better than it's ever been in its history. I think it's going to be that kind of thing. I think you're going to, our next president, our next AD might be somebody that doesn't really know anything about sports, but is a number pusher. Has to be. And these general managers that the teams are hiring has to be the same type of guy, not just be able to eye talent, but to put a value on that talent.
Starting point is 00:37:30 Don't overspin for people. Spend it the right way and develop your roster. I mean, these football teams are going to have to be Dave Ramsey, Shoeh. You're going to have to rip up things. Unless you're somebody that has a collective that can give you $8 or $10 million more than the rev share, and some of these schools do, it's going to be who balances this money. Now, on the basketball side, it's a completely different situation. On the basketball side, we don't have $16 to $18 million in rev share.
Starting point is 00:37:56 We have like $3 to $4, which means, Drew, the NIL thing is how we're going to pay for 75% of our roster. And so how we manage that, how we negotiate that, how many donors participate. Those are going to become massive factors in basketball success even more than actually picking the players. Like, can you get the resources to compete? Yep, and it'll take more help than just head coaches trying to do all this, which reminds me of something I meant to say in the Will Stein conversation. yesterday he said basically I can't imagine doing this without a general manager you couldn't
Starting point is 00:38:34 you know we've all debated that Stein said yesterday you cannot coach this day and age and not have help with your business side of things and that's why I think basketball will have to add it and the teams that are successful will have all that extra help and admit that coaches can't take all this on yeah that's everybody's going to have to give up a little power and I think this is the way to do it and it seems like the way the Will Stein sort of setup is is it looks to me like it will work, but there's going to be a lot of different styles, and we're going to see which one works.
Starting point is 00:39:06 And within 15 years, probably everybody will be doing the same one, but whoever figures it out first, I think has a chance to pull in Indiana and make a run. They figured out, Indiana figured out that in the NIL era, having a group of players who've played together might be the ultimate inefficiency that you can take advantage of. Now, what will that be in an era where you can pay everybody? We'll find out.
Starting point is 00:39:33 And by the way, there's also Ryan like a third as many people in the portal this year. Did you know that? I didn't realize that. I thought the portal was completely packed. I found that actually kind of interesting. Wow. There are less people in the portal this year than last year. So does he think just teams are making an effort to re-sign their current players?
Starting point is 00:39:48 I think they're retaining people during the year more now. And I think you're just seeing more of it. And it's smaller windows, so people do it quicker. Start the new year off straw with taking care of yourself. And that includes your king women. Where I did blue guys skin center, didn't we? Yeah. Yeah, do draft kings or Don Franklin.
Starting point is 00:40:05 No. I need Kentucky State Chamber. Well, let's do, let's do draft kings. You go to draft kings, bet five win $300 of bonus bets. We've not been on a roll. We'll start turning around. And I say we might as well, Drew, turning around tonight. No time like the present, right?
Starting point is 00:40:21 Absolutely. Vandy at Arkansas. 9 o'clock, the doors go on the road to see Cal and the Hogs. Who you got? Go ahead. I'm going to take... Arkansas is a one and a half point favorite. I'm going to take the hogs at home,
Starting point is 00:40:36 even though Vandy's legit. Their start wasn't some fluke. They're one of the best teams in the conference. Vandy, to me, is really good. That little Tyler Tanner, their point guard, is awesome. But Arkansas is tough at home this year. It seems like I'm going Arkansas at home. Arkansas, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Yeah. I kind of feel like Arkansas is going to win. I can't pick Arkansas, though. Give me Vandy on the road. At a boy. They've lost their last two. They get back on track. I'm surprised this is only one and a half.
Starting point is 00:41:03 I would, this is going to be my put it down, lock it down, strap it to the floor and dance with it, lock of the week. Yeah, that means Vandy's going to win. No, Arkansas is going to cover the one and a half. There's no way Arkansas does not. No way. No way. Mark the tape.
Starting point is 00:41:24 No way. This is the lock of the year. Lock of the year. It's the lock of the year. Yeah, double down, triple down. Come on. That's the lock of the year. John Calipari at home against Vandy.
Starting point is 00:41:33 This is a lock of the year. They're going to pig suey your little dorky protractors. And they're going to beat them. They're going to beat them by like 13. Okay. If you're wrong, I'm going to save this. I've got receipts. Then save it.
Starting point is 00:41:47 It's the lock of the year. I don't say things that are locks that aren't locks. God, I hope Andy wins. So I can play this for you. You can play it tomorrow. Here's a reality. in Kentucky right now. People can't afford child care a place to live. If they do
Starting point is 00:42:02 that, the jobs and businesses can't grow. That's why the Kentucky Chamber is taking on this crisis. When parents can't find child care, they can't go to work. When they can't find housing, they can't be in the place where the jobs are. That's why our legislators in Frankfurt have to fix the basics, child care
Starting point is 00:42:18 and housing, so Kentucky's workforce can actually work. Visit Opportunitystartshere.com. That's our Opportunitystartshere.com to learn more. Lock of the week, lock of the year, Arkansas. We'll be right back. Last night, a blown call changed a game.

And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Starting point is 00:43:41 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing, and we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:43:58 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:44:12 Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.
Starting point is 00:44:32 He felt destined for greatness. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history.
Starting point is 00:45:08 You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:45:36 Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. Final segment, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859280, 2287. Tomorrow we will be at KS Bar and Grill for the game, but also for our show.
Starting point is 00:46:05 So we'll be there from 10 to noon. Pre-game show starts at 4.30 for all of you coming to the game. Then on Saturday, we're actually opening early for served breakfast for Ole Miss. Breakfast with the Rebs. Game is at noon, so we're going to open at 9. Our pre-game show starts at 9.30. So come out and have breakfast before you go to the games. Ryan should be a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:46:25 We've said it many times. Our breakfast is really good. So I was going to get excited when we open up early to have breakfast for a noon tip-off down at route. Yeah, this may be the only one this year, I think. That's a home noon game. So it's your chance to get breakfast at Wimbledon. Same thing as breakfast at KS. Bar. 899-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:46:47 One person writes, Matt, what did you think of Bob in Jamestown with Mario? I thought it was excellent. clips drew were great bob and james town dressed just like i'd hoped mario was sufficiently freaked out by him without being scared uh there's a great video he put up later in the weekend of him interviewing other people besides bob the loony tunes that were there uh i think it was excellent part of me was a little jealous i wouldn't trade places because the tennessee game was so fun but the moment i saw bob's outfit i thought oh i should be there in person
Starting point is 00:47:20 with the tassels i don't even know where you get a leather jacket with tassels But then I saw Mario and Paul at Bourbons and Bubbles that night. And I asked, you know, do you believe in aliens now? And they said they actually believe in aliens less than they did. So the speaker did not do his part of the experience. I would have totally imagined that the library across the street from the church in Brooklyn, Ohio, would not do a lot to change people's view about aliens. It seemed like everybody that was there.
Starting point is 00:47:50 Everybody in the church. Yeah, everybody that was there had like seen U.F. foes or something. Like everybody he interviewed. One person said they even saw a UFO that day. That day. Before they walked in. One of the odds.
Starting point is 00:48:02 Yeah. And I saw that. And I felt bad. I felt like Mario was doing elder abuse. It's some of those questions. You should not, some people should not be on camera. The woman who said she saw an alien earlier today, Shannon,
Starting point is 00:48:16 I thought was one of those people maybe shouldn't be on camera. A bunch of cooks, but, you know, looks like he at least had fun. Fun. We got some great videos. So if you haven't seen it, it's on the KSR, all the various accounts, and then his personal Facebook, there's a lot of stuff there.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Who's next? Let's go to Joe. Joe, go ahead, Joe. Hey, guys. Enjoy the show. As you guys keep me company as I walk down 38 between Rosemary Beach and Cetrest, about 55 degrees of sunny down here. But anyway, not to rub it in.
Starting point is 00:48:49 Got a comment about Kentucky basketball first. I think they all knew and half time of them was. very game that low win coming back. So that said, they define their roles, left rotation, DA became the point guard. Now we've got two six five guys a guard with O way that are just senior. They're tough,
Starting point is 00:49:10 tough as now. So I look for us to have a really, really good season from here on out. I hope so. For me, for me it looks like they drew, have the guys that are playing in the right position. that some of the lineup issues have been worked on.
Starting point is 00:49:29 The issue now for me is consistent effort and playing intelligently. Do you agree with that? Absolutely, I agree with it. Go ahead. You have the floor. No, go ahead. I'll go ahead. I don't want to downplay what Aberdeen has done,
Starting point is 00:49:45 but I'm curious if he's turned a corner or did he just get red-hot for a week? Because, respectfully, that's not the Aberdeen we've seen all year. If he's really turned a corner, and I'm sure he's not going to be perfect, the field again or probably not then yeah I think they really have something here but I still need to see they've been so inconsistent in these wins I still don't know what this team is I mean I'm happy they won and the comebacks were awesome but if you're asking me to go out make some big proclamation that they're going to be you know something's jumping into another tier go win a bunch of games I'm
Starting point is 00:50:14 I'm still not there yet because I they still haven't answered some questions that rob doster is the argument that rob doster said Ryan to on field of 68 which is okay so this team now is what it is. Jalen Lowe's not coming back. Quaintance may not either. And so like now everybody knows what they are. They can just learn what they are and just go. Is there something to that? I think there's something to be said about that, especially for Aberdeen. Now he knows what his role is. He's the point guard. He's not looking over his shoulder. He's not getting moved over to the two. And when Jasper came in, Jasper didn't have to look over his shoulder. He knew he was the guy. I think it does allow them to kind of settle him and just play ball. Yeah. Well, we'll see. I, I'm not. I'm not negative about the future. I just, I honestly have no idea what's going to happen. I think if they can beat Texas and Ole Miss, I'll feel pretty good about getting to the tournament. But any given game, I have no idea what's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:51:10 But that'll make the tournament the season at least exciting. And thank goodness they came back and won these last two. Appreciate all of you listening. We will be at the bar tomorrow. Don't forget. And let's get a victory. Go Cats. Wednesday against Texas. It's been Kentucky Sports Radio.
