Starting point is 00:01:25 Quarterback on office, Blue 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's he at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifferts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam?

Starting point is 00:02:50 It is Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday, January the 29th. I'm Matt Jones here in Lexington, Kentucky at the KS Bar and Grill with Ryan and Drew. Shannon is in Louisville. You can give a shout on the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line 859-2-80-2-80-22-87. A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-7-4-4 in this edition sponsored by the T.J. He'll make them pay. We haven't seen you in a while. I haven't seen all of you in a while.
Starting point is 00:03:19 I made the drive this morning. Yes. How was it driving over from Louisville? Well, I was going to say, first of all, we're at KS Bar. I know a lot of you in Lexington, like haven't left your house. So come on out today. Have lunch. See us, come to dinner. Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Just get out of your house. I will say, having made the drive, you guys in Lexington have handled this storm much worse than the people in Louisville. It's about snow removal. Yeah, I mean, just there's so much more stuff everywhere. Like, you all have a lot more ice and snow everywhere. Like Louisville at this point, like my street, which is very much, it's basically clear now. Really? I mean, outside of, you know, there's piles.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Yeah. But the street. And you're on a side street. And I'm on a side street. You guys still, you know, you guys got some work to do here, Ryan. This is why you need to be on the city council. A lot of work in my neighborhood, Drew's neighborhood, all these neighborhoods around town. They haven't got to it yet.
Starting point is 00:04:16 We had a snowplow guy called the pre-show. He's like, yeah, you're complaining we're not got your neighborhood street. You're also going to complain when we plow the snow on the end of your driveway. So get a shovel and dig the way out there. Yeah. I ain't doing it. Talking to you, Ryan. What?
Starting point is 00:04:29 No, I think he was talking to me about. getting a shovel, get out there and clean the snow myself. I don't, you're not making any sense. What are you talking about? Yeah, I mean, that was just gibberish. He was saying what? He's saying, all you people call and complain about us not getting the neighborhood streets. Okay, I understand that sentence.
Starting point is 00:04:46 You're also the first people to call and complain when we push the snow up against the end of your driveway. He said, get a shovel out and shovel it yourself. Oh, he's, you were acting, okay, I thought you were saying you told him to get a shovel, which I wouldn't have made any sense. All right. Well, I'm just saying, I mean, I'm not blaming anybody. I'm not blaming a snow plow driver or the city council or you specifically, Ryan. I'm just saying, just in general, having now been in both cities, this city is a lot more messed up than Louisville is.
Starting point is 00:05:17 And Louisville got more snow, but you all may have gotten more ice. So maybe that's it. It's an adventure. Once you get on a main road, you just have to go straight. There's no turning lanes. Like if you want to go left, there's just piles of snow. It's like, well, I guess I'll have to keep driving straight. find a way out of here or you'll just be driving in your lane we'll just turn into a
Starting point is 00:05:33 mountain of snow and you have to stop and get over so you're still getting through it so you all just so you know in lexington it's worse so just go to louisville if you want uh but either way it's nice to be here with you guys uh how was the colonoscopy uh which one i knew which one the one you had yesterday oh that one well the night before i had one without anesthesia watching kutucky play vandy oh he was late for that he set that up okay i thought that one through it was great Had a great time, actually. You did have a great time. Honestly, that's the best sleep I've had in 10 years.
Starting point is 00:06:04 I would go back tomorrow if it didn't cost me so much. I'm not kidding. Do they do weekly? Can I get a subscription? I will say, it is the best 15 minutes or 20 minutes, whatever, of sleep. The only negative for me coming out of it was the first thing I saw was Ryan's face. Because, you know, that's not, when you come out of a deep sleep, you're like, is Ryan in my bed? And then he realized he's there being nice.
Starting point is 00:06:28 But yes, it is the best sleep in the world. I'm pro-colonoscopy. Did you have a bad night before? Oh, no, no, the prep. Everything was easy. I didn't think that was as bad as people said. Everyone's liars. You know what?
Starting point is 00:06:39 Not eating for 24 hours. In fact, there was a moment during the Kentucky game where I rewound an Olive Garden commercial and watched it again. Abby's like, we've got to get you food if you're just watching all of them. We leave here. We had to go get a cheesy burger. I'm glad he played that, though. I was so disappointed.
Starting point is 00:06:54 The anesthesia changed. I was immediately fine. They even told me Ryan had something different. I was excited to be dumb and want cheeseburgers. Yeah, I feel like mine went away pretty quick, too. They must not give you the loopy stuff anymore. Ryan was a big topic, by the way. Everyone there was talking about Ryan and cheeseburgers
Starting point is 00:07:12 and the day we did the show. Did they give me some extra strong anesthesia or something on purpose, maybe? Or maybe it just the way it goes into your brain. Because you remember, you saw me. I was fine, basically. I picked you up. I could not believe you were moving around that well, talking coherently. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Walked in your half-fler. You got a good brand of health. I did. I will encourage people to go. I won't lay out my, I won't show you all my photos, but, you know, they said I should come back more often. That's a good thing to know ahead of time. Okay, that's good.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Nothing serious, but, you know, I'm glad I did it. There you go. I will show you the photos if you all want. I mean, I was hoping so. 859-280-2287. Well, I'm glad that you're good, and, you know, it's been, it's been weird, but we've been a part. It reminded me of the shows during.
Starting point is 00:07:57 during COVID where we were always in a different spot. And we're going to actually have some more of those over the course of the next couple weeks. But I've enjoyed the last few shows. I think it was a good mix. And that led to, I wanted to bring up, you know, we're basically used to on this show over the last few years. The, how well, we've been very fortunate. We've won the ratings in Lexington for like. 13, 14 straight years, right?
Starting point is 00:08:31 But sometimes you get these moments that are very cool. And yesterday, we found out that the last ratings period was the best ratings in the history of this show. And our bosses said maybe the best ratings in the history of any show they've ever seen. These numbers are complicated, but for the first time ever, we won every demographic. were the number one show beating not just sports shows but music country music rap pop all that stuff in every demo people people 18 to 49 women 18 to 49 men 18 to 49 and then seniors
Starting point is 00:09:11 people etc and in men 25 to 54 which is the sports demo 40.3 rating which just so people know I remember the first time we got a 10 people saying saying sports shows don't get a 10. And then when we got a 20, people saying, that's ludicrous. That's probably the highest rating in the country. And the last ratings period, we got a 40. A 40. And women, we won women 18 to 49.
Starting point is 00:09:43 I had a national radio executive write me and go. There's no sports show. Maybe in the history of sports that's ever won women 18 to 49. So I just say all that to thank you. I want to thank the listeners. I also want to thank my man, I think Mario had a little bit to do with this. I really do. I think Mario putting this on social media was the exact hope for bringing him in.
Starting point is 00:10:04 I think that had a lot to do with it. But mostly I want to thank all the listeners out there because the success of this show is just ridiculous. And we thank you. The numbers are absolutely insane. I mean, nowhere, anywhere in a country, does a sports talk radio show get numbers like this? Talk Radio does not beat country music. music and we when we had a 20 I think they even had a little party for us little celebratory yeah we'll see if they have it they should send us on a trip for a 40
Starting point is 00:10:31 40 my good I mean the only shows that in history have ever gotten something like that is like at its peak in some parts of the country Howard Stern would have gotten that that's really the only the only thing so I remember when we got the 20 thinking well we'll never do better than that and and now you get this it's just it's crazy it's really crazy so thank you to all those folks church Congratulations to you guys. Well, no, you're on this show, too. I'm aware.
Starting point is 00:10:58 I still want to give you congratulations. It gets in my head of like, does that mean when I'm in a grocery store and like I see some of earbuds? Well, here's what that means. If, at any, for people who listen to the radio, two out of five people are listening to the show. That's crazy. That's absolutely crazy. That's absolutely crazy. There's a lot of options out there.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Yeah. Two out of five people are listening to this show. That's crazy. I mean, it is crazy. So when you go to the grocery, yes, you see five people. Two of them like you. I'm just going to start fist bump, and I'm at home. Yes, three.
Starting point is 00:11:33 Yeah, just fist bump five people. Presumably two of them will fist bump you back. The other three may call the authorities, but you get two out of five. And these ratings don't include podcast listeners. Does not include. So that's another thing. Doesn't include podcast. Doesn't include those of you that listen on streaming.
Starting point is 00:11:52 So those numbers are probably. It's just people who listen over the air. Yeah. So you add the streaming in the podcast, it's going to be even more stupid. So anyway, I don't want to just spend the whole show patting ourselves on the back. But we were very happy about that. And, you know, now we can celebrate as we get ready, Drew, you and I and Mario next week to go to the Super Bowl. We're going to talk a little bit more about that later in the show.
Starting point is 00:12:19 And, Ryan, you will be here. Yeah, my Broncos let me down. in the snowstorm in Denver. I was pulling for them. So I could tag along with you guys. If you drug me with you, I was going to go. He's not going to drug you. Well, I wasn't going to drug you.
Starting point is 00:12:31 I'm not going to drug you. I feel like I would have just taken you and hopefully you would have enjoyed it. I know I think your comrades are very happy. They're not driving out to San Francisco. Yeah. I wonder how happy they're going to be that we still don't have a place to stay for Friday and Saturday. You know, high crisis is just going to go up. Austin Moss is still out there.
Starting point is 00:12:48 I'm going to end up. We're just going to have to do something I don't like. We're going to have to probably. slum it a little bit and stay in a place. I'm going to have to share room with someone. I don't like that. Just remember San Francisco slums are... So where...
Starting point is 00:13:02 It's like a grid. Where do we stay away? Is the wharf you stay away from the wharf or no? Or the wharf, okay? Because I was... They have a great Applebee's in the wharf. I would happily stay in the wharf. So the wharf we could do. Yes. I haven't been in about four or five years. All right. Well, there were a couple places in the wharf. You know, parts of Oakland, I probably would rather not stay in.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Well, I'm only staying in Oakland. I'm more upset. We'll talk about it later, but I saw Mario and Billy went shopping yesterday without us, and that hurt. Because I'm getting excited like you, and they're off doing side quests with themselves. Billy looked hilarious yesterday. See, Billy, here's what's happened with Billy, Shannon. He got the rub from getting the slutton, I mean, strutton with Sutton. Yeah, that's a different conversation.
Starting point is 00:13:43 I think it was different show. Strutton with Sutton. He got the rub from that, and now he's trying to go retro and wear all this old year. He's soaking in all this attention. He can buy this stuff and then resell it if he really wanted to. Yeah, he's now doing the whole retro thing. I understand. We got our invite to the parties now.
Starting point is 00:14:03 We got VIP access to the Sports Illustrated in the shack party. Okay. I've already figured out my outfits. I've got my fits. The clubbing shirt coming out? Clubbing shirt. Well, it's a crucial part of all. Does the clubbing shirt have a hoodie?
Starting point is 00:14:18 That's the base layer for all outfits. Yeah, I had to add. to add to the club and share. Well, you're going to share? Well, no. It'll come out. Come out in the photos. You don't want a person to reveal their stuff.
Starting point is 00:14:29 But it's also, some of this is going to be off camera. This is going to be the boys not producing content. Like, I'm not showing what happens at the shack party. Or at the Applebee's at the Wharf, Mario. The shack party's just us. I saw the shack party invite list. This is how I know I'm old. The people performing, I didn't recognize it.
Starting point is 00:14:46 T-Pain is one of them. You know T-Pain. Oh, I didn't see him on there then. T-Pain's on the list. I'm so bad. And then the Sports Illustrate party, we get the chain smokers and ludicrous. Ludo. So, Mario's excited.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Billy's excited. Billy told me his dream, his entire life has been to go not to the Super Bowl, but to Radio Row at the Super Bowl. I was like, really? He goes, yes, I've wanted to do it my whole life. And I'm like, well, you're going to get to me. You guys are going to do your show from Radio Row? And we are, our set is right in between the NFL network. network TV show set and the Pat McAfee show set.
Starting point is 00:15:25 So it'll be NFL network TV, cover zero, Pat McAfee. Rubbing shoulders. So I think there's a really good chance that we, like Shannon, we may end up boys with Pat McAfee. What are you going to do this? I don't like him at all. Tell him Max Duffy says hello and show him. I plan on talking to him about Max Duffy if I get a chance.
Starting point is 00:15:48 I'm taking up for Max with him, but that's where our. set is. Are all those guys getting up at 6 a.m. and doing radio before they go to Radio Row or just us? Yeah, we'll be up early. Our show will be 7 a.m. local. Oh, my goodness. Billy will be 6 a.m. local. So, you know, when we went to the Republican caucus, I was not convention. Convention. I was not excited to go. But then we went to Radio Row. Those are some of my favorite shows we've ever done. Well, this is like that, except instead of, like, Herman Kane walking around at sports people. It's sports people walking around. How cool is that? Remember we had Herman Kane on? And then he died. Who's the other big name guy we had on?
Starting point is 00:16:22 Sit down and talk to us. Don King. We did see Don't King. I don't know. Dan Rather. We got Scott Bayo. We got Scott Bayo. MC Hammer.
Starting point is 00:16:32 MC Hammer. Bunby. Yeah. Boyce to men. Lester Holt. Yeah. We saw all these people. Tucker Carlson.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Tucker Carl. I have a picture of me with Tucker Carlson, which I don't want nowadays, but there's a picture of me. We look like we're friends. You introduced me to him. I had no idea who he was. For all I knew, he worked at the arena. Wolf Blitzer? The NBC Today Show pulled out the thing where I said,
Starting point is 00:16:56 I have any idea what's going on. I'm just here to see Rascal Flats. The fact that you ended up in all those pictures. For those of you that are newer listeners, I would argue, oddly, our best shows were the Republican and Democrat Convention and the Iowa caucuses. I think those might be the best shows we've ever done. I agree.
Starting point is 00:17:18 And like I said, I wasn't looking forward to those trips, but ended up being super, super radio, fun radio. Yeah. And we just saw that picture of you taking a picture of Matt Bevin with Drew behind him. That was a great moment, too. Kentucky gave their electoral votes, and in the picture was Matt Bevin, Mitch McConnell, Andy Barr, and Drew. Yeah, well, they needed me.
Starting point is 00:17:34 I'm a Kentucky. And Matt Bevan is staring at a lot of you. Oh, Matt Bevan had a look like, if you screw this. That's what he looked like. 859-280-2287. We will take a break and be right back. Talk a little Pope. This is KSR.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it
Starting point is 00:19:08 and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:19:24 And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue 42.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. podcast. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you to hear more.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back Sports Radio. We're having like old man memories here. Good stuff. Good memories of the past.
Starting point is 00:21:29 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-7-7-4-5-254. One person writes, Matt, you used to always talk about fighting with your bosses at the radio a lot. You don't do that as much. Does that mean you get along? Yeah, for the most part, they basically leave us alone. There are hiccups. There have been hiccups here and there, but not like it used to.
Starting point is 00:21:51 to be. I mean, like, it used to be, it used to be tough. Last year, year and a half, it's a bit a lot better. They kind of, they kind of just leave us alone unless a crisis comes up. We had a boss that was wanted us to work on our QM. How's our QM these days? That was a great moment. That was the first time we ever got over a 10. And I went to Earl and I go, we got over 10. And he just looks at me, QM needs to grow. I was so mad. I like Earl, though. He played the NFL. I don't know that. I don't you know that or not. He played the NFL. Yeah, that's right. All right. So Mark Pope, big topic of conversation nationally after yesterday. Paul Feinbaum went on television, stared into the screen, Shannon, and an exciting show. Oh, I'm sure. And said that he wasn't sure,
Starting point is 00:22:33 he thought there might now be questions about whether Mark Pope could do this job. Colcubach and Greg McElroy had me on this morning to talk about whether or not Pope could do the job. So clearly this is becoming a conversation. I think probably because You know, this is the time people start focusing on college basketball because the NFL is about to end. So a lot of people are going, well, wait a minute, let's watch college basketball this week. And then Kentucky's on against Vandy and they lose by that amount. And people, whoa, what's happening? Locally in the fan base, I feel like that's also happening.
Starting point is 00:23:05 On his pregame show last night, he said he still thought, and when I heard this, I thought Drew's going to love this. We could still do very special things this year. I'm trying I need a mental break from Prescott I still ever recovered from him saying the first half against Ole Miss was amazing and beautiful and then we get the quotes Tuesday
Starting point is 00:23:27 it's okay to say things aren't going well you can say that no one's going to be like oh no do you think this team can still be really special no I don't no not really special a little special I tried to not be negative during the five game win streak I still felt like I was a little bit of luck in Fools' gold the way they won a couple of those.
Starting point is 00:23:47 I didn't want to be a downer, though, because it was fun watching them, but I just don't see this team accomplishing much. Are they going to make the tournament? Still projected as a seven seed. I still see them having a big game and maybe one in one that they weren't supposed to, which would go a long way. I think you have to win, though. I ease them into the tournament.
Starting point is 00:24:04 I think you have to win, I think if you assume they beat Oklahoma and South Carolina, they're still going to have to win two games where they're probably going to go into it as an underdog. Where are the two wins? The easiest two would probably be Georgia at home, Vandy at home. That's probably your path to 18. And maybe Tennessee at home, although they're playing a lot better. But that's probably, Ryan, your easiest path. I want to believe.
Starting point is 00:24:31 I want to, and I thought they'd finally figured it out in the five-game win streak. But then we went right back to that team that I don't like. I just, this is not a one-off thing. This has been happening all season. Well, they'll just look like they have no clue. what they're doing offensively, especially. Did you really just say you think Vanity's going to be the easiest way? I do because I actually think we should, yes.
Starting point is 00:24:52 I mean, again, I didn't say easiest, but what's easier? The two games against Florida, at Arkansas, at Auburn? Florida looked horrible the other night at home. They did, but I don't think you can judge these things game to game. I think it's a big, I still think on paper we don't match up poorly with Vandy. Now, I mean, we might, if it does seem ridiculous, I understand what Chishin's saying, to lose by 25 and go, hey, that's the one we, can win.
Starting point is 00:25:14 That's the easy one out of the game. But I do think that game shouldn't have been like that. Bigger picture, okay? Just Mark Pope in general. Are you confident that in five years we can have contended for a title with Mark Pope as the coach? I mean, ultimately that's the question. Put this year aside.
Starting point is 00:25:40 The question more is a bigger picture. Can you win a title with Mark Pope as your coach at Kentucky? I think if we were here yet last year, we would have said the answer is definitely yes. Do you still feel that way? I'm going to say no. You don't. I mean, I don't even know if we're going to have a team next year. And then I think you don't have to be the Cal Patino type just screaming.
Starting point is 00:26:04 But you got to have a little dog in you. And I had several people I knew at that game. West Kentucky people down there texting me nonstop. Pope has not raised his voice once. Hope has not talked to the players in the huddle. And it's things like that that worry me more than injuries, even recruiting. It's like, does he even have the capability to fire people up? What about you?
Starting point is 00:26:22 Because when they're saying he hasn't even, he's not even speaking to them and they're down 20, or he hasn't raised his voice, that's the time you should be chewing them out. I'm hanging on but barely. I'm starting to question it for the first time, I think, since the vandy game, I really am starting to question whether. Why was that game the one that did it? Because I think it's not just the fact they lost, it's how they lost. and it's happened again and again and again this season.
Starting point is 00:26:45 Roster construction, poor grade. Coaching this year, poor grade. Offensive execution, poor grade. There's a lot of things to be negative about. So for the first time to answer your question, I think I'm really starting to question it. I'm willing to put this year in a, well, first of all, Shannon, what's your answer?
Starting point is 00:27:01 Can we win a national title with Pope? Yeah. No, I don't think so. All right, so there's two people know you're a maybe. I'm not as negative as you all, but I'm, moving in a negative direction. I'm going to put this year just in the can.
Starting point is 00:27:19 I mean, I still think we can make the tournament. You make the tournament, you win a game or two. But this year is a disaster in a lot of respects. They did a lot of things wrong. They constructed this roster poorly. Pope, I don't know what's, Pope has been through like the eight stages
Starting point is 00:27:36 of mental anguish through the year. It's been really bizarre just watching him this year. I'm going to put it to the side because I'm just going to say, look, this didn't work, right? I'm more worried about next year. I was talking about, I don't know who's on the team next year. I mean, if you made me say, Matt, give me one human being on this planet that's guaranteed to be on that basketball team next year. Reese Potter. I'm not, why?
Starting point is 00:28:11 Why? The only person, I mean, I would have high confidence in Moreno, but I wouldn't guarantee. I don't think you can guarantee one person on the basketball team next year. So next year, I think we all agree, is going to be a make-or-break year for him. You can't lose your whole roster and have no one set up right now in January. There's a bunch of nothing on the- That's what makes me nervous is I have no idea who's going to play for Kentucky next. year or if anyone is well that's take a call's very back ksr tj smith personal injury attorney call tj he'll make them pay now more of kentucky sports radio presented by stockton mortgage here's
Starting point is 00:28:59 matt jones welcome back tucky sports radio text machine full of uh people shannon with a lot to say one person writes this is 859 200 i'm not going to read the other numbers okay well these days you all will learn to listen to me i said it when he was hired that it was the wrong call. We should learn to listen. We should always listen to 85, 9,200. First of all, he's the only person that said that was 8,59, 200.
Starting point is 00:29:25 There were other people that said it. Matter of fact, almost everybody said it the night that happened. I tweeted it, and I still left it up. And then we all kind of flipped. And we flipped because... He played out of our fills is what he did. He got in our fields, but also, I started to believe, like, I
Starting point is 00:29:41 talked to myself into it. Now, I don't think that's necessarily wrong. We got caught up in the BYU highlights, too. Some of those YouTube videos make them look like the greatest thing that's ever played basketball. That YouTube video did look good, I will say. But I also don't listen. He was the coach at that point. What good does it do to sit here and say, well, there's no way this is going to work?
Starting point is 00:30:00 Also, people don't know. I mean, sometimes you think a press conference, like, who could do worse at a press conference than Liam Cohen did? Do, oh. And they're in the playoffs, right? Nick Siriani sounded like he had been dropped off a planet of weirdness, and he won the Super Bowl. Do ball.
Starting point is 00:30:18 And then there are guys who come in and kill the press conference and don't win. Like, you never, I mean, on some level, you never know. And I feel like what he did last year was pretty amazing, considering what he had up again. We had to build a roster in two weeks of staff and do with that team did. Well, they also made the Sweet 16. I mean, one of the things, now, this is the case for everybody who goes, well, he's going to, he shouldn't be here.
Starting point is 00:30:39 I think all those people have got to slow their role. one season is over. We went to the Sweet 16. This season is not even close to over. Now, we don't necessarily think it's going to go great, but what if they make the tournament and he goes to Sweet 16 again? It's going to look ridiculous for people to have said he should be let go at that point, right? Yeah, and I don't have faith in him, but you can't just start firing people every two years
Starting point is 00:31:04 or what's ever going to take the job. We also owe, like, Mark Stoop's $900 million. We're trying to build an Appleby's out at the football stadium. I hope that's what it is. Even good in the neighborhood. But, I mean, we're trying to build, like, we owe $20 million in rev share. Like, we owe a lot of money to stuff. So we can't just be, like, just firing everybody at the drop of a hat.
Starting point is 00:31:28 So let me talk to you about something that Jack Given said this morning on Tom Leach. And it goes along what we're talking about with Pope and coaching. He says it's been happening in practice. He said, you know, he goes to a lot of practices. It's like he was kind of alluding to they don't practice hard, they don't prepare the right way. to me that's more on the coaches, I think, than the players. I trust Jack. He sounded so sad Wednesday on the radio.
Starting point is 00:31:47 He did. He did. And I trust Jack. Jack says that. I think he's 100% accurate. And if that's accurate, that's not good. Mark has some splaining to do at the end of the year. And I will do whatever I can to get him on here to have it. And he needs to answer.
Starting point is 00:32:04 This is not worked. And the not playing well and the not playing hard. You know, sometimes, guys aren't as good as you thought, but you can play hard. Yeah. You can play hard. You can play hard. I think there's only one, I'll be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:32:19 There's only one player on the team that I think has played hard all year, and that's Aberdeen. He gets you, not played well. Not played well all year, but I think he's played hard all year. And to some extent, I would even say Malachi as well. Everybody else, their effort fluctuates so much depending on the situation. I do feel like Aberdeen plays. hard all the time, just not always well.
Starting point is 00:32:44 And Malachi, I think, plays hard. Some of these other guys, man, I don't know what you're going to get for him on a given day. So what was your take when Jimmy Dyke said during the broadcast? He said, one thing you can say about Kentucky tonight, they're getting blown out, but they're playing hard. I love Jimmy. I don't know what the hell he was talking about. Are you watching the same
Starting point is 00:33:00 game? I don't know what he was talking about. Even Pope said they didn't play hard. I mean, I think Jimmy was trying to say something nice, because he knew 90% of the people watching are Kentucky people, but I don't know what he was talking. I think that's it. Jimmy was doing his best. I'm trying to find anything positive to say here.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Yeah, it didn't make sense to me. Who's up first, Shannon? Let's go to Noah. Noah. Go ahead, Noah. Hey, Matt. Thank you guys for taking my call. It's Wednesday, Noah. Appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:33:27 I had an idea. I called on the pre-game show. Shannon seemed to like my idea for it, so I thought I'd give it up to you guys. We've had a little bit of, like, I don't know, at the beginning before the year started the whole controversy a little bit with the BBN United with, like, being able to pay,
Starting point is 00:33:43 what seems to be pretty sumptuous about the money to be able to get these little incentives and fun things which do seem fun but also at the same time like so what's your idea so my idea for it is why not have a I don't know how much money probably a good amount but for someone a random fan to be able to come in before as a pre-game uh go to have before their game go to the locker room with players and give them the speech of their lifetime to actually Because that would be a horrible idea. Because if you gave a bad speech, appreciate the call, or we lost, people would be mad at you. I don't think that's a good idea.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Like, I'm all for fan experience, but there comes a point that, no, I don't want you, hey, everybody, let's have a contest. You get to be president for a day. No, no. Let's not do that. I like Wingsday, Noah. That's one of the worst ideas I've heard in a long time. I mean, Day Wings Day, Noah.
Starting point is 00:34:41 I love it. I think for a fan to be able to go in there and have a passionate pep talk speech, sometimes maybe that's what they need. Oh, wait, me, you think this is a good idea. I think it's a great idea. How many times have you thought, man, I care about this game more than what I feel like the players do here? But don't you think the players would laugh at you? Would, like, they would.
Starting point is 00:34:59 Don't you think the players would just roll their eyes when you went in there and started? They apparently have a bad attitude to begin with. Maybe your pep talk would change their opinion. Okay, I'll tell you what I'll do this. No, I'm not doing a pep talk. No, no, no, not you. Okay. I didn't say, here's what I'll do.
Starting point is 00:35:15 If we don't play well against Arkansas Saturday, next week, I will allow like three random fans to call in and give the pep talk they were going to give. And we will collectively decide if we think that would work. I like that. I like that. I like it. Or I might even go further.
Starting point is 00:35:34 I might have Mario go and film someone doing it. if they're really like film someone giving the pep talk there and then we could see if we think that would want i'm telling you is some dude walked into that locker can you imagine bob and james town walked that in and tried to give a pep talk is he wearing that jacket yes see what would happen most of most people would get in there see the team and buckle and uh or they would be overly confident and it would be bad also this is what we're trying mark pope for what are we talking about mark pope needs to be doing this that's true he should already be firing. By the way, we don't see a lot of videos of the pregame and halftime speeches.
Starting point is 00:36:13 We haven't seen one since the Auburn game last year, and it still lives in my head when he was going over a spreadsheet. That's what I'm thinking. If you do 30% of this, that gives us a 1.7 point advantage for possession. Now, if you do 75% this and hold them to 10% that, and then Bruce Pearl was just running through a brick wall. I think it's way too much analytics right before game, man. Just go out and just play ball. You know the assignment. You know this kind of report. Just go out and play. If they're going to do analytics, can we do the analytic that does not have us take all the starters out four minutes into the game and look at a 10-0 run for the other team?
Starting point is 00:36:47 That would be a pretty good move, I believe. That analytic has not worked for a year and a half. Right. Who's up next? Emily. Emily, go ahead, Emily. Hello, congratulations to y'all on your ratings. Thank you, female listener of KSR.
Starting point is 00:37:02 I just wanted to call in today. This is a little off topic, but to pay tribute to a really awesome Kentucky Wildcat fan, Mr. Don Ringstaff. He's in the KHSAA Hall of Fame for many things, basketball player and as a coach. He's kind of a local legend in western Kentucky, Livingston County. But even more than that, he was just a legendary human being. So I just wanted to call in and pay a little tribute to him. Did he pass away? Yesterday.
Starting point is 00:37:37 Okay. Yeah, yesterday. Well, God bless him and you and his family and friends. And I appreciate you calling and we'll be praying for all of them. I just want to say for anybody who likes Kentucky basketball history, look him up. His stats are awesome. And you can find those at westkwibasketball.com. And what's his name again?
Starting point is 00:38:02 Don Ringstaff. Don Ringstaff. All right. Thank you very much, ma'am. I appreciate it. We, in addition to that call, we had a lot of calls yesterday of people sending me their UK merchandise. Yes. The weirdest one was the one that I retweeted today that looked to be UK bloomer women's underwear.
Starting point is 00:38:24 And it said, I am behind the wildcats on the bug. Oh, yeah. First of all, you don't see that cut of underwear quite very much anymore. Yeah, and did a woman's in that or a man? I think it was a man that's in it. That's another thing. Why do you have that? Why do you keep it around?
Starting point is 00:38:43 Why do you have that? They don't particularly look to be clean either. Yeah, that's the other thing. They're a little dirty. They're a little bit. They could at least use a bleach. Ryan's next dare is to put those on. But that is an amazing thing that was at some.
Starting point is 00:38:59 point made. I'm behind the wildcats. I've never seen those and I don't really care. I saw the tweet. I've seen it. They have accompanied diapers with them? They weren't accompanied. That was different.
Starting point is 00:39:11 The UK diapers. I've seen UK diapers before. I've never seen that. In fine print with the copyright, it says 1963. Nineteen sixty-three. Wow. So they were making UK women's underwear in
Starting point is 00:39:26 1963. This guy still got a parent. And that got kept it for 60 years. Wares them every day. Lucky underwear. Wow. We find out he wears those for every game for his lucky underwear. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:40 Why are we putting it on him? He just owns them. That's one step closer to wearing them. Start the new year off strong. Taking care of yourself. That includes your skin. Prioritize your skin health, whether it's persistent acne, fine lines, or more. You deserve glowing, slug.
Starting point is 00:39:56 from the Kentucky Skins Cancer Center, locations in Bowling, Glasgow, Owensboro, Franklin and Powderly, visit online, Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.com. That's Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.com. Don't wait months to see a dermatologist. Get the skin you need at Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.com. We'll take a break. Be right back here at KS. Bar and Grill.

Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing
Starting point is 00:41:36 and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:41:51 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:42:26 Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rec, my mama wants you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:42:51 Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, Help on the internet. Help! Somebody, please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian, and recently, I've become quite the helper myself.
Starting point is 00:43:06 And on my new podcast, hope from a hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. Listen to Help from Hypocrat as part of the Mike Coutura Podcast Network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Radio, why you got your... Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:54 Ryan, I like random sports from around the world that gets your soul pumping. You love it. All right, so let me explain to you what happened yesterday. I need to give you the context. Okay. All right. The Champions League, you know what that is? That's where the best teams from all the countries play each other.
Starting point is 00:44:08 Like a tournament. Playing a tournament. But it's like a thing where you have pool play first. Okay. So now you play eight games. Yesterday was match day eight, which means like you're in or out after this one. Do or die. The top teams move on.
Starting point is 00:44:22 The bottom teams go down. They all play it once so that you don't know what everybody else is doing. All right. So Benfica is in Portugal. They had had a poor qualified, and they were playing Real Madrid at home, the best team. Everybody's all right. And they needed to win, and everybody was like, well, they're not going to win. So they play the game.
Starting point is 00:44:44 They're winning three, two, an extra time. But crazy results are happening everywhere else. And because of the results, they need to not only win, They're celebrating because they've won, but they realize, no, winning is not enough. We have to score another goal. We have to win by two. They don't find out the announcers and the viewers at home, and I'm watching this, no, they need to win by two, but you can tell they don't know.
Starting point is 00:45:11 They're basically holding the ball, Shannon. They're like, we've already won. What a great win. And then all of a sudden, you can tell with like a minute left, someone tells the coach and the players, we've got to score another goal. and you see the panic in their face. All right. There's one play left.
Starting point is 00:45:28 They're winning, but they bring their goalie, and they tell him, come down here. We all have to, we have to score another goal. So there's one play. If they score a goal, they move on, if they don't, and they're playing the best team. Let me throw in another thing. Their coach is Jose Marino. Jose Marino is a legendary coach. Used to coach Real Madrid.
Starting point is 00:45:50 Oh, boy. used to coach Benfica's rival in Portugal. He calls himself. Can you imagine someone calling themselves the special one? That's his name for himself, Shannon. He calls himself the special one. I like a wrestling gimmick. He is, but can you imagine if, like, you know, I don't know, Bill's self was like, I'm the special one.
Starting point is 00:46:12 That's what he does. So he's on the sidelines. This is all a set up. Now, this is in Spanish. You don't even know what they're going to say, but you don't need to know. This is in Portugal, Benfica, one play. The goalie is the one they kicked the ball to. Here's what happens.
Starting point is 00:46:30 Turn it up. There you go. Graziez, Portando, champions. If that doesn't make the hair grow, goosebumps grow up, that's what sports is. The goalie gets the header to win the game, and they move on. watching live might have been one of the most exciting things I've ever seen. You've got to look at the video. It's on my Twitter.
Starting point is 00:47:43 The stadium loses their mind and the special one starts pumping his hands towards the crowd. I don't have any idea what you said, but I got caught up in the moment. And you can hear the crowd, man. The crowd loses it because the crowd had celebrated earlier. They thought they were going to get this amazing upset and then they realized with like a minute left, oh no, it's not enough. and then they get it and they have that moment of joy. I would have given anything to be in that stadium.
Starting point is 00:48:10 It looks like absolute bedlam. And from just a soccer standpoint, that was a deep free kick into a crowd. Like everyone was packed into that box and the goalie of all people. The goalie gets it. Of all people, the goalie. If that goes out of bounds, the bullet whistle, everybody goes home. That was literally the final second. Shannon, they showed the goalie had played soccer for nine years as a professional.
Starting point is 00:48:32 He had never one time touched the ball on the other. other side of the field. Oh, he makes it even better. There's a perfect shot right off the side of his head. Right off the side of his head into the goal. It's pouring rain, and you've got to see it for the special one. I mean, the special one is, you know, he's talking all this trash because it's his former team. I think the goalie can call himself the special one now.
Starting point is 00:48:53 If you've only crossed midfield once and you scored an extra time to put your team into the championship league. It's pretty, it was awesome. I'm telling you, it was, and I just happened to have it on. It was great. That was one of the coolest things I've seen. Yeah, you get caught up in the moment. I have no idea who these teams are, but you just get caught up in the moment.
Starting point is 00:49:10 I love these call of the goal. It was awesome. I love that now all the Spanish announcer just say go and just do it for 30 seconds. That's great. You don't need to know Spanish. The passion and their voice, you can't help but smile and get excited. I think, by the way, Tom Leach should do that. He should just, like when Malachi made his shot, just go.
Starting point is 00:49:26 I think I would enjoy it. Who's up next? Connor. Connor. Connor. Go ahead, Connor. Hey, guys. Thanks for taking my call.
Starting point is 00:49:34 Congratulations on the ratings. You all totally deserve it. It's my favorite show. Real quick, I live in Pavell, Arkansas. Pray for me. All me and my buddies are crazy Razor Pig fans. They'll be going with me to this game this weekend. Yeah, good luck.
Starting point is 00:49:50 I will be thinking about you. Yeah, it's going to be a rough one night. I went to the Oklahoma, Arkansas game down the street the other night. The wild game, Arkansas, to the hole a lot, man, when they can't hit the three. That A-Cuff guy is real good, so I feel like we really need to have Aberdeen on him. Yep, I was just going to say, pray for me for that game, but also I'm driving up for the Oklahoma game next week. I saw there's snow coming through Lexington.
Starting point is 00:50:17 Is that true? I don't know. Next week's snow? Is that what they're saying? More snow coming. I think Wednesday. Wednesday and Thursday, I believe. I saw that.
Starting point is 00:50:26 And then we play Oklahoma on Wednesday. So there you go. Yes. Well, be careful. I appreciate the call. We'll be in San Francisco. You can handle the snow. I am like this guy.
Starting point is 00:50:39 I think we need to pray for everybody. This team Saturday could be ugly. Do you think you give us any chance? I give us a small chance. Cal can lay an egg. Arkansas does not scare me one bit except for A-Cuff. Cal doesn't scare me. That entire roster doesn't scare me, but A-Cuff is special.
Starting point is 00:50:55 I've watched him a lot this year. He's a badass. He's good. He's one of, you know, we talk about how Cal's teams are good. When they get the point guard, they got the point guard. He's real. It's probably your SEC player of the year, and he can drive.
Starting point is 00:51:09 He hits threes. His assistive turnover ratio is crazy. He plays defense. But you have a party here. Cala Perry versus Ryan Lemon. Bring it on Cala Perry. A watch party Saturday night. Knock his butt down.
Starting point is 00:51:20 I'm going to you. I'm expecting you to bring us home a victor. Okay, we got it. It's packed the place. Let's get it going in here. It could be exciting day here at KS Bar and Girls. It's going to be a part of it. Wasn't that exciting here Tuesday night when we love.
Starting point is 00:51:30 Like, that's not a... People come out at night. Nine o'clock. And then you're down about 20. And then we're down about 20. Well, it's good to see y'all. Got to get out. Got to get home.
Starting point is 00:51:41 Did they have school today? No. Still no school. No. We'll take a break. Barry Beck's KSR. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, NL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
