Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:01:14 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep. My mama want you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:01:30 What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The story I've told myself can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. This Mental Health Awareness Month,
Starting point is 00:01:55 tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the world, work to become whole. This podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. One of the biggest misconceptions about buying a home right now is that you have to wait for the perfect moment, perfect rates, perfect timing, perfect market. The truth is that moment doesn't really exist. A lot of buyers pause because of headlines or assumptions, but every situation is different. Race change. Market.
Starting point is 00:02:31 shift and personal goals matter just as much as what's happening nationally. That's why talking to a local lender can be so valuable. When you contact stock the mortgage, you get paired up with a local lender. That lender will give you your options. That lender will explain the situation. You can ask your own questions. That's what it's all about. Get into the closing table as simple and as easy as possible. Our friends at Stock the Mortgage focus on helping people and understand their options, whether you're ready to buy now, later, or just starting to ask questions. There's no pressure to make a decision, just a chance to get real information and a clearer picture of what's possible. Sometimes the smartest move isn't waiting, it's getting informed.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Visit stockton.com today to learn more about your options. NMLS 8259 Equalty Lender, NMLS Consumer Access.org. Some support for Billy's idea, some not. One person writes, Matt, Billy's doing a good job. I like that he stands up to you. That's good. One person writes, Billy has way too much confidence.
Starting point is 00:03:33 I need to go into my life with Billy confidence. Yeah, I'm just trying to bring ideas to the table. Get a new job. Get a new job. What does that mean? Just the networking NFL. Yeah, no, no, no. They get a new job part.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Why do you keep wanting to get a new job? Why are you trying to get away from here? Oh, it's not about that. It's about fulfilling what I've always wanted to do and working with the NFL. And I'm getting to do that this year with you guys. I mean, you're doing it right now. You're currently doing it with us.
Starting point is 00:03:59 You literally work with the NFL at this moment. Yeah, that's great. This hotel room, they got it for you. I know, and we're going to Radio Row. But I don't think it's a coincidence. You keep saying that you are looking for another job. I don't think I'm going to be here for the rest of my life. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:18 But can I give you just a little tip as a mentor? Yes, please. Do you consider me at all a mentor? I do. Don't look at your people you're working with. and tell them you want another job. That's not, they don't, people don't like that. I mean, I'm fine with it, but, like, our bosses probably don't want to hear you say you're looking for another job.
Starting point is 00:04:40 I think the whole networking bit with the NFL is recognized at this point. It's not like I'm saying, I don't want to work here anymore. One of those things, Drew, unspoken is better than spoken. I kind of feel like we brought him to his new, for him to leave us. Yeah, I mean, like, you don't look at, like, we just got here, and you're already trying to go upstairs and meet other. don't understand that people look for advancement. It's that you don't like call up your boss and go, I'm looking for advancement. Will you send me out to meet other people, Shannon, so that I can go somewhere else?
Starting point is 00:05:11 Is there a good chance? Right. Yeah, Billy, are you serious? I mean, are you going to be stuck out there in San Francisco? Look at this. Look at this. Just leave them in San Francisco. It's an interesting strategy.
Starting point is 00:05:23 I'm just saying it's, I'm just as a strategy. I think it's a fair piece of advice to not say to the person that helped bring you here. I can't wait to meet people to work somewhere else. For the same company, just with different people. Yeah. Specifically not with the people that are in your hotel room right now. I'm going to put my feet on your bed now. 859-2-80.
Starting point is 00:05:49 It's just an interesting strategy. 772-7-7-4-25-4. Savannah Guthrie's mom and her dad met. on a blind date at a UK basketball game. Wow. Who knew we had all these connections with Savannah Guthrie's mom? Who knew? Isn't that wild?
Starting point is 00:06:05 A blind date on a UK basketball? That's a risky blind date. You've got to sit there for a couple hours. I guess you don't have to talk a lot. It's a long-time commitment. You think a blind date to a UK basketball game? Well, clearly it worked for them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Do you think that? Remember, we sent back in the early days of KSR, we sent two couples on a blind date to a UK. basketball game. That's old school. We played the dating game. We played the dating game. We had two, we played the day two
Starting point is 00:06:35 times. We had somebody, a woman, two women came in and they had to pick the date based on callers on the phone. And they did. And then they went out. And we, you know, they have eight kids. No, neither relationship worked. I think one of the couples,
Starting point is 00:06:53 I think maybe one of the couples went out a couple times. Had fun. One of the couples was not a good match. And I remember you and I looking at the game, and it looked really awkward. So we didn't do it again. But I do think it would be a good, I actually think it wouldn't be a bad game to do during the summer or something to play the KSR dating game.
Starting point is 00:07:13 I don't think that's a bad first date. I mean, people go to movies. They can't talk to each other. I think that's the worst first day. I mean, you could argue a UK game's not a bad first date because there's something happening. If you all don't hit it off, you can talk about that event. So, like, even at dinner, you're having, like, nothing's going on except the two of you. Get caught in a lot of small talk at dinner.
Starting point is 00:07:35 And a lot of, and if you don't hit it off, you're just kind of there. A basketball game, you could talk about what's happening at the game. So actually, Drew, I may have come around. Maybe UK basketball is a good first thing. When I first said it, I was questioning it, but I think it's perfect. I mean, it would help that they're interested in the game. I wouldn't, like, go get someone who hates basketball and take them. But if you're both a Kentucky fan, I think it'd be great.
Starting point is 00:07:54 You like what's right in front of it. view you're talking a little bit but there's not too much pressure to sit there in time let's look at what home games are left i'm trying to see if i want to do this you get on the snack we're going to be gone we're going to be gone for the next these two games then the georgia the 17th that's a tuesday so that's a let's see saturday the 28th vandy at home 2 p.m does that feel like a blind date game 2 p.m. blind date yeah a little early in the day's just lunch on date but if it goes well.
Starting point is 00:08:26 Yeah. Could morph into post-game show and then dinner. But the heartbreak, if you get a goodbye hug at four in the afternoon, I feel like that would sting a lot. All right. Well, what's either that or it's going to be Tuesday. I'm not buying tickets to Kentucky, Florida. That's too expensive. I'm not paying for somebody else's first date on that.
Starting point is 00:08:41 I mean, the Georgia game seems like a good date. But that's a Tuesday night at 9 o'clock. Right around Valentine's Day, three days later, right? You know, Valentine's Day didn't go well for you? Tuesday, Georgia at 9 o'clock, or Vandy on a Saturday. at 2 o'clock. I might have my Saturday free, though. What?
Starting point is 00:09:00 I might have my whole Saturday free. I don't think people want to go on a blind date Tuesday night at 9 o'clock. So I'm just going to say Saturday 28th against Vandy, we will contemplate a KSR blind date to the UK Vandy game. I think this needs to happen. That time we did it.
Starting point is 00:09:19 It was so fun when we had it. It was fun because I remember the one guy. The thing I remember about that is the one guy that go, So the question was, what would you do to woo this woman on a first day? And I think the guy that won said go to a UK basketball game, which is how we decided to send them to a UK basketball game. But one of the guys that lost goes, I'll take you to Applebee's, and let you order whatever you want.
Starting point is 00:09:43 However, man. And that one didn't win. I remember that being one of the options. I feel like that should have won. I still see one of the women that do that sometimes. I'll see around Lexington. I know the guy who did it a little bit. Maybe we can set them back up.
Starting point is 00:09:56 As long as Shannon's involved, so the woman will show up. One person writes, Matt, I have to say, I know you all joke about it, but I really need Mark Pope to stop using the word special. He says special all the time. He's even ruined the word specials meaning for me. I can't say special to my wife about her cooking or really anything, because Mark Pope says it about everything, including the dinner he has at night. We have to stop saying,
Starting point is 00:10:24 special. It is becoming a curse. He does it all the time. Yeah. And if everything's special, nothing special. It's hard to understand what you're telling me. If everyone on the team and every scenario is special, then nothing is actually special. Yes.
Starting point is 00:10:43 Every time you're asked something, it's special. The nothing special. Correct. Same thing with beauty. Not everything. Beautiful, extraordinary, and special are his words. Why do you think he does do it a lot. It's definitely a personality thing.
Starting point is 00:10:55 I believe last year he even mentioned that his wife has asked him to stop. His wife asked him to stop saying beautiful. Beautiful. Which I think then led him to do special. As long as he, she probably doesn't want him to stop calling him or her beautiful. Yeah. Well, I think she probably was like, stop calling me what you're calling Andrew call.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Yeah. He did say Trent Noah has a beautiful body last year. Yeah, I mean, he was probably like, please don't look at your wife and use the same terminology is you'd use Trent Noah's thighs. Please don't do that. And in life, I mean, that's a good trait to have, being optimistic and everything is sunshine. But, you know, as the basketball coach in a competitive environment and, you know, times aren't going well, people have serious questions or looking for answers, it does worry you out a little bit when everything is just picture perfect when we know it's not. And probably a crutch for him without even knowing it, right? I mean,
Starting point is 00:11:47 I say Shannon's name a thousand times every pre-show. And that's because. No, it is probably a little bit of verbal crutch to say it. But it is, he does say it a lot. I think it does. Also, I think it's fair to say showcase his optimism. Yeah. He has a lot of optimism. Do you have optimism for the rest of this season?
Starting point is 00:12:06 I don't know what to think. I mean, the turnaround from last Tuesday to Saturday in Fayetteville, I don't even understand how they did that. I knew that Cal and Arkansas could lay an egg. I didn't think Kentucky could fix their own problems from Nashville to Fayetteville. So now my brain's like, well, is it permanently fixed? Or was the high emotions of the game carrying them? Are they going to take a step back next week?
Starting point is 00:12:30 It's the inconsistencies that are so bad. But I at least feel confident that they'll be in the tournament. I admit I had worries about that for a while. That was a huge win. We should have some postseason life as far as the record the rest of the way. It could be anything. If we win the night, I won't feel really good about it. Because we'll find a way to win a couple more games.
Starting point is 00:12:49 But we need to win a night. I mean, like, it's one of those things where, If you win tonight, if you lose tonight, you lose everything that you got from the Arkansas game. Right? Because this is a quad three game, I think, tonight. So this is like the kind of, you know, I've been in those media, in the selection committee things. And they care about two things. Give me really good wins.
Starting point is 00:13:11 And did you have really bad losses? And we really don't have a chance on the schedule for a really bad loss left except tonight. tonight could be the one really bad loss that would make the NCAA go now wait a minute yeah you still have south carolina schedule that's on the road making it a lot tougher i mean even like georgia coming in a row people think of georgia's not very good they score a billion points george is good this year i mean the NCAA will forgive you like you look at our resume right now the the biggest negative to our resume is going to be margin of loss at this point it's really not the losses it's going to be how much we lost some of the
Starting point is 00:13:49 these games by. But this is one that if they want to keep you out, they could point to and say, you lost to Oklahoma at home. One win, Oklahoma. So that's why you got to win tonight. Who's up next? Pickle ball, Paul. Paul, go ahead. What's going on, fellows? I'm glad to see Billy finally made the travel team. And I thought you were from Eastern Kentucky. But you may not anymore after he told us he's trying to leave. What'd you say? I'm really surprised you're complaining from the hills. I thought. thought you were from eastern Kentucky. I thought you were used to that. Yeah, but I don't climb the mountains. I mean, first of all, even in eastern Kentucky,
Starting point is 00:14:27 I don't know if there's hills this steep. I mean, there are hills that are much higher, but it's what's crazy about these are this, how steep they are. This particular spot we're in, I've never seen like it. I've never seen a residential street with a steeper hill than the one we walked up last night. I got two comments on Cal on the Arkansas game. Much of us for watching in the other than I am surprised I was watching as bad as they'd been playing. But with four minutes to go, I made the comment that I always complained about Cal that I didn't think he was a good game coach. Never did. I didn't dislike Cal, but I think it's a good game coach.
Starting point is 00:15:02 And I said, we'll see what happens here. And, of course, nothing changed with Cal. He made the own changes and got beat. And the second thing I'll comment on and let you all hang up and listen is if I was a gambling man, I would have lost a fortune on Wagner going to Arkansas. with Kyle. And the other night, he sat there on a bench and watched again. And I think he has to be a huge disappointment his whole career.
Starting point is 00:15:27 But Mortis said that, I cannot believe no more than he played at Kentucky, why he followed Cal to Arkansas. And I'll hang up to listen to. Yeah, I was surprised. I appreciate the call. I was surprised he did it after last year. I mean, I kind of wasn't surprised he went there. But now he stayed another year.
Starting point is 00:15:43 And, you know, I don't know what will happen in his senior year. You think he comes back for a third ride at it? I want, because Cal, that's his, I mean, he's basically like a father to him. I wonder if Cal knows that I can pay him a lot of the Tyson money that he's probably not going to get anywhere else. And that might be DJ's best bag of his career as being at Arkansas. But if I'm DJ, I don't, like you said, coming into this year, I don't know that I would have run it back. He's got to be, and I hate this because he seems like a good kid. He's got to be one of the more disappointing players of the Cal era.
Starting point is 00:16:16 just in terms of how highly he was ranked. Because even a guy like Scow was disappointing, but he's played and he's still in the NBA. I mean, he's played, you know, he made a lot of money. Like a DJ just has not happened for him at all. Well, that class, he was the number one point guard and Aaron Bradshaw was the number one center and both of them are still trying to just get minutes in college as juniors now.
Starting point is 00:16:38 That was a huge disband. Justin Edwards was the number one small forward. Now he's in the league, but we didn't get to see that. So, I mean, they got the top three players top player at three positions, and two of them look to be a pretty big bust, at least the college level. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Justin played well in the NBA the other night. But Justin Edwards has worked out. But we didn't get that in Lexington. But DJ Wagner just has not worked out and is not going to work out. Like it's not like there's a potential there we haven't seen. I think it's just he is what he is, and that's unfortunate. I've wondered if the Cowell connection, he was pretty good at getting guys in the McDonald's game that were probably on the fringe,
Starting point is 00:17:10 probably rated a little higher because it's history. I wonder if Cal and the Wagner name. Did you hear it? Somebody made the McDonald's All-American game yesterday that's ranked like 97th, and it's because he plays high school with the guy that runs the committee. And people were like, maybe this whole thing's a little bit of a sham. Big news for our listeners in the Hoosier State. Cornbread Hemp is now available at Fresh Time.

And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough,
Starting point is 00:19:15 Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely.

Starting point is 00:20:37 I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Listen to help from hypocrite as part of the Mike Coulthura Podcast Network available on the I-Fart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. Text machine, 772-774-5-254. Washington Post takes away its sports section today. Wow. Probably, like, maybe one. the best place in history to produce big-time sports journalist over the years. I mean, Tony Kornheiser started there, Michael Wilbon, David Aldridge.
Starting point is 00:21:54 I'm sure there are many, many more I can't think of. But, I mean, that was, you know, along with the New York Times, the two big newspapers in America just shutting down at sports desk. That, I think, about Sports Illustrated, is gone to nothing now. I mean, some things that were just so long you'd go to and trust them. Well, that doesn't exist. and some others are down to nothing. It's interesting, though, the Washington Post and the New York Times were basically both
Starting point is 00:22:17 the two biggest newspapers in America. And the New York Times has flourished, and the Washington Post has just falling apart. Why do you think that is? I think the Washington Post, I think when Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post, he ruined it. Like you can't, when these people that come from a world of just making money only take over these things, it can just completely fall apart if you miss the culture of why something works. You know, you have to know why. And I think that was probably a big part of it.
Starting point is 00:22:50 I think rich people when they're, when they've had a lot of success in one thing, they think they're good at everything. And I think sometimes that doesn't work. One person writes, man, I'm surprised that you're being so calm about Billy wanting to leave. It doesn't seem like your style. Well, I don't think Billy really realizes this is said with love, Drew. Billy sometimes doesn't realize how he comes off.
Starting point is 00:23:14 But I have grown to be fond of him. So I forgive the way he comes off because I don't think he means it. You know what I mean? And as you said, it's very normal to want a network. This is the Super Bowl of all things. I even saw a video of young Billy like pretending he was doing an NFL call when he was little. Oh, that's video of you doing that? Marissa posted it yesterday, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:36 So like this is a dream. I get it. But I wouldn't be like I'm in a hurry to do. That's actually very cute. She posted it on some on her social media. Yeah, like her story or something on Facebook or Instagram. And it's like you as a child. That's pretty sweet.
Starting point is 00:23:48 But you also, and this has been like since the first day I met you, you get in your own way, but you don't do it out of malice. You do it out of excitement. And so like I, it doesn't upset me. Well, don't be upset. It is tongue and cheek when I say this networking things. I can't wait to meet these people. but it's not like I have a resume,
Starting point is 00:24:11 but I am excited. But he does have a digital business. What's on the QR code? What happens there? You don't get your resume? My name, my email, my phone number. I don't think you get my CV, Shannon. You got to sign up for it, though.
Starting point is 00:24:23 I have to upload that. Okay. Yeah. You're just trying to get pre-show guests. That's what you should say. You're networking to bring guests onto the show you already have. I'm just saying to you, like, you just have to think. about how it's how
Starting point is 00:24:41 things come off to people that don't already know you you know what I mean? Yeah but also people assume they know me and they think that I'm gonna stop talking actually I'm not gonna say what I'm gonna say self-aware is their best interest
Starting point is 00:24:57 yeah he just pulled the plug on his own statement that says he's already taking the advice he's like you know what my delivery doesn't feel right right here are you serious It's starting to take the advice. Some exciting news for the, I believe, third time in history. KSR was named the number one midday show in America for its market size.
Starting point is 00:25:23 So congratulations to everybody. Last year, I think we were in third. So things really, we improved in the last year. Got up to number one. We are the top 20 list. I tweeted it out. we're number one even though Lexington is the smallest city on the list, which is the thing that always makes me the most proud.
Starting point is 00:25:43 If you look at that list, everybody, every single person on that list is from a city with an NFL, NBA, or Major League Baseball team, except us. And yet we're ranked number one. It's very exciting. I think this is the third time. In the old days of this show, we would play the show that was ranked one ahead of us and then mock it, Shannon, to say we were better. Yep.
Starting point is 00:26:12 I like that we beat the really big show, which means we're the really, really big show. We're bigger than them. Yeah, second place was the really big show in Cleveland, which is here. So maybe we should go up to them and go. Oh, they're here. We should go up to them and go, hey, how you doing? We should take a platform over to them and stand on the tall part. How you doing here?
Starting point is 00:26:33 Number two. Number two, the really big show. But actually, you know, I think it's very, very cool. And it's a testament to power of this audience. And we've had a lot of really good news in the last couple weeks about how the show is performed. But this is just so people know, the people that vote on this, this is the industry like peers nationwide. I still don't know how they know. How could they know?
Starting point is 00:26:58 I don't know, but it had like the votes, too. It was a pretty big win. We had a big margin. Big gap. Big gap between us and second. 26 votes. We had the most first place votes and a big gap between us. And so they always send this thing out every year when you win.
Starting point is 00:27:15 So we'll get one of those. And yeah, we'll probably see a lot of these people when we go over here. So that was very good. And so congratulations. And thank you to Ryan, Shannon, Drew, and everybody that's on this show. It's in Mario, Billy, et cetera. It's great stuff. Yeah, and even though Ryan's not here, we got a green text from him.
Starting point is 00:27:36 He got to see the news. He was excited this morning. So we got to enjoy it with Ryan via text. Via green text at 6 a.m. Who's next, shit? Matt. Matt. Matt, go ahead, Matt.
Starting point is 00:27:49 Hey, guys. Congrats on the news there. I also wanted to mention I was in San Francisco several years ago. said at a hotel called the Sir Francis Drake, which I believe is now the beacon. Anyway. Just 30 seconds. Go for it.
Starting point is 00:28:13 They've got a cougar bar on one of the top floors. Probably more for Mario than for you guys. But worth looking at... Is that like... Is it really called that? No, no, it's got another name, but it's where all the cougars gather, I guess, a cougar den. Oh, okay. Well, I appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Well, I've seen that, I've seen that them prey on Mario before, so I could see. I'm pretty sure we walked by this last night. It's like literally right here. So we'll watch Mario. By the way, on the contest we won, beat 70 other shows across the country. Wow. So congratulations. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Be right back. KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back.
Starting point is 00:29:09 It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-2-80-2287. The pregame show tonight will start at 630 Eastern on KSR, on WLAP, HAS, etc. It will be live from the bar. It will be Ryan, Jack Pilgrim, and Ramell Brad. So if you've never met smooth, you should come to the bar for the pregame show tonight. Go on by. He'll be there.
Starting point is 00:29:34 And then we will host the post game show late at night here from San Francisco. I'm very much excited about that. So if you stay up tonight, you will hear us late at night doing the post game show from here. I think we're going to watch it somewhere at a bar at one of these places. And then we'll do the show. So it'll be probably 1 a.m. or for those of you, 1230 or 1 a.m. for those on the East Coast, but it'll still be like 9.3010 for us. Yeah, I like the road trip postgame shows. It's more of a group collaboration. We're usually at a random place
Starting point is 00:30:07 plugging things in just shortly before we get started, and they always end up being fun shows. So we will do that tonight. But 630 at the bar, so if you're going to the game, go on by there, and you can meet Ryan, Jack, and Ramell, who is excited to be on there and talk to the fans. 859-2-80. 2287. Are you rooting Drew for Miami of Ohio to stay undefeated? Kind of. You know, I don't feel that strongly about it. They're not like some lovable team that I'm rooting for. But, you know, there's a talk of could Arizona do it? You know, there was Kentucky years ago. I would love the absurdity of Miami of Ohio being the one that actually runs the table. I think it would be really funny if it's Miami of Ohio, just because that's such a random team to run the table, Miami of Ohio.
Starting point is 00:30:53 I don't like, they didn't play anybody in the non-conference. They didn't schedule one good team. They worked for them. They're in the conversation. They couldn't have imagined this was going to happen. It feels like every game of theirs is close. Like they win every game at the end. That's why even if they aren't to do it, it wouldn't even compare to some teams that came close like Kentucky,
Starting point is 00:31:13 but just the fact that they would be able to say it. Sure. Let's have the chaos. So I'm contemplating when we go back. I'm contemplating going up and go into a game. Easy draft. I just think it would be kind of, I've never been. into Miami of Ohio game.
Starting point is 00:31:25 We played them in the Sweet 16 ones. Did you know that, Shannon? We played Miami of Ohio in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. What year was that? You remember? That was 19. Well, actually no. It was 2000 or 2001.
Starting point is 00:31:42 I feel like I remember that. Or maybe 99. The thing, actually it was 99, I think. The thing I remember about it is Jamal McGlore knocked their mascot out. The mascot. Yeah. You don't remember this? The Red Hawk. The mascot fight. See what year we played him. It was when Wally Zerbiak was on the team. So they had Wally Zerbiak and he was really good. I think it's 99.99.
Starting point is 00:32:05 99, yeah. So it was halftime and we were beating him by like 12. And as he ran off the basket, the mascot ran in between as the Kentucky team was running off. And Jamal McGlore could have gotten out of the way. Instead, he just Shannon chucked the mascot with two hands and threw him into the ground. I feel like you're a fair game at that point. If you get in the middle of it. I do, too. I mean, the mascot, he was, to use the phrase, he was roadkill.
Starting point is 00:32:30 He was. That was a slug fast, too. 58 to 43 was the final. 58, 43. Yeah, Wally Zerbiak, you know, he was like one of the best players in the country that year, and he just couldn't score. Tubby just completely shut him down, and he could not score. And we beat him up.
Starting point is 00:32:49 But somebody's got to, there's got to be video online. Oh, it exists. I feel like it's been on KSR not even that long ago. Yeah, McGlor just nails him. But I think it's cool that a mid-major's got a chance to go undefeat. Yeah, another storyline for the NCAA tournament. I can get behind that. You know, Drew, you've done a lot of odd jobs in your time.
Starting point is 00:33:07 You ever been a mascot before? One time my boss in college told me he wanted to go to me to go to campus in a frog costume, and I said, respectfully, there's no chance in hell I'm putting on your frog costume. What business that was a frog? Anderson Communities What's Anderson communities? They got apartments in Lexington. So he wanted you to be...
Starting point is 00:33:29 Yeah, I worked in the office. Okay, but wait a minute. I'm still trying to understand the connection. It's an apartment complex. What does you be in a frog? That's like their mascot. So I worked in the office. By the way, the three people that worked in the office,
Starting point is 00:33:40 you appreciate this, we're Corey and Derek. It was just the three of us running the show. Oh, really? It's a great time. Until they wanted me to go to campus dressed as a frog. So was the assumption that if you walked around in a frog costume, people would want to rent the apartments? I think I was supposed to hand out,
Starting point is 00:33:55 maybe come look at the apartment. Get it on their radar. Let me ask you, was it a cool frog costume or was it like that when we went to the Republican convention that guy in the Superman costume? Oh, it was much better than that. I will say they invested in a good frog costume. It was just, at that point in my life,
Starting point is 00:34:10 I didn't feel like getting in a frog costume and going to standing at the student center. If that UK frog were a mascot, I would definitely wear that. The one that we were talking about last week. No, a normal mascot would be great. You get a scholarship. But this was big and heavy.
Starting point is 00:34:22 This was like what you would, if there was a college team called the frogs, this is what it would have been. You do get a scholarship. You miss the joke. What? The frog costume. What about it? There was a plush frog. Do you not remember this just a few days ago?
Starting point is 00:34:36 The collectible? It had it up. The well and down frog. Okay, sorry. I got you. I got you. I understand. Thank you, Shavin.
Starting point is 00:34:43 I appreciate that. No, this is a good frog. I just did one. Does Anderson communities? Does that still exist? Yeah, I believe so. Their neighbors to Kayas Bar. I worked over there. I can't even think of the name of the place now.
Starting point is 00:34:52 I mean, maybe you could still recreate this. You know what? I have changed. You're about to be a dad. About to be a dad. I don't know what that has to do with. All right, if they need me, I will revisit the frog conversation. They need to call you into service. It had like a big headpiece. It was a big frog. It would have been hot. I would love to see you be a frog and hand out things for Anderson communities.
Starting point is 00:35:15 I think that would be good. My number's still the same. I'm sure they have it on file somewhere. Who'd be who's next? Justin. Justin, go ahead, Justin. Hey. Hey, what's up? First time, long time.
Starting point is 00:35:28 Who are? What's going on? So I've watched three games this year, and that is three that we lost. One was Alabama. One was Don Gaga, and one was, I remember the other one, but it was not good. And the three I've missed are Arkansas, LSU, and Tennessee. So I'm wondering, do I stop watching this season? Wait a minute. So you've watched three games.
Starting point is 00:35:52 you've missed three games. What has happened the other games? Have you been? Well, I watched them, but they weren't as excited. Okay, so you've watched more than three games. So you're saying you've missed three games that we've won in big ways. I would suggest tonight's a game to watch. If I were you, I would not watch Saturday's Denham game against Tennessee
Starting point is 00:36:12 just to ensure us a victory. Okay, but my mom's a Tennessee fan, so. Well, after the game, you can still, I'm not asking you to not communicate with your mother. I just think you don't need to watch the game. And my dad's an Alabama fan, so that one hurt. That is weird. You can find new parents, maybe.
Starting point is 00:36:34 Tennessee Alabama fan produces a Kentucky fan. That's weird. Colin Chandler said he saw the denim uniforms, and he said they are 100% fire. Oh, 100% fire. Nice. You know, we were wondering why or the dark, I still don't know which they're going to
Starting point is 00:36:53 wear, but I'm confident that the dark exists. That doesn't mean Saturday they'll have them. But if they do wear the whites on Saturday, I wouldn't give up on seeing dark. I got more confirmation that more people, again, I say confirmation, I can't say for sure, but more people saying that Mark Pope is planning on wearing a denim suit. I just, we'll see. I feel like the jerseys and the shoes and the excitement's enough, the denim suit, we're getting a little, like, remember Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, the VMAs?
Starting point is 00:37:21 Is that what he's going for? look is it real thick denim i hope so i hope he's just logan's of lexston i hope he's planning on recreating the justin timber lake 2000 v ms that would be i think it was bedazzled that would be
Starting point is 00:37:37 uh great again it reminds me shan to win patino wore the white suit yeah it was ridiculous but they won that's the thing you can't you can't lose you can't come out there in a denim suit and lose you will be a meme
Starting point is 00:37:51 you would literally you cannot Rick won so the white suit ended up kind of being like kind of being badass because they won you cannot come out there in a denim suit wearing what is it the Canadian tuxedo and then what about when you sweat through that I mean how heavy would that denim be it can't be a real
Starting point is 00:38:11 like thick denim I wouldn't think it's got to be skinny jeans or something it reminds me like you get those yeah those jeans that are real heavy that people have Can you imagine having that on your body and it being hot? And it's Tennessee. There's going to be photos everywhere. If you don't win, they're going to have a blast of like,
Starting point is 00:38:29 look this guy in a denim suit when we went into Ruppereen and whipped them on denim day. Yeah, you can't do that. What person writes, Matt, what age people are we talking about going on the first date for the basketball game? That's a good question. What do you think would be the right age to put people? You think like 20s, 40s, 60s? I like out of college. When we're not going to do college,
Starting point is 00:38:56 or even young just out of college, you probably already went on a date at Rupp recently. I'm thinking someone that might not do it as much. You're thinking like late 20s and 30s, 40s and 30s, 50s and 40s, like, what do you think? Like, what would be the... If I could pick. I think the older people are going to be much more hesitant to do it.
Starting point is 00:39:15 So I think you have to go young for people to feel like, why not? Right. Either one extreme, like 70, looking for a new love. That would actually be really sweet. I think our chances of making a match would be bigger if you got up to 60s and 70s. Don't you first of all have to find a bachelor or a bachelorette and then match them up? I don't think we'll have a hard time.
Starting point is 00:39:38 I think that... Depends on their age. I mean, we were much less popular back then. We had a ton of people want to do it. I mean, ultimately, it's about can you get the women to do it? They'll be guys. I'm not worried about the guys. Can you get the women to do it?
Starting point is 00:39:52 So maybe we'll just say what women want to do it, and then based on the age we get, then we'll pick the bachelors. Maybe the ladies of KSR can, they can, amongst themselves, see if they have any candidates. We can. Or you can even have somebody that's not in our world do it, but then have KSR people try to woo them. I think that's what we did last time.
Starting point is 00:40:13 I think it was two women that were not, like, in the KSR world, they came on not really knowing what to expect. and then you got it. Whatever the age, whoever it is, it's going to work. I'm with Drew. I kind of wanted a little older, though. I want somebody looking for a second or third chance. That's the other things we could do both.
Starting point is 00:40:30 One seven-year-old and one-30-year-old? Yes. Blind age. Not together. Oh, okay. You made two different couples. Yeah, two different couples. Okay.
Starting point is 00:40:38 I'm not trying to try. I'm not doing a Belichick. I'm not doing a Belichick. I agree. What did you think about the Belichick's wife, that party? Jordan. Jordan throwing him a party on the Hall of Fame Day. I heard you and Myron talked about this on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:40:55 I think I side with you. So I think it's sweet that she's doing it. I actually think it's sweet. Yeah. I think it's sweet that she's throwing him a party instead of the Hall of Fame. Like imagine if we had finished 50th in Barrett Media, but when we get home and Ryan had decorated KS Bar for us for... He would do that.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Yeah, that would be... That's what Jordon did for Bill. Tell me about stock to mortgage, Bill. Well, it's a great time to buy, guys. And maybe you're like wanting to... to buy in the spring? Well, don't wait till then. Do it right now. Start in February. Planning ahead now can simplify buying later. Well, he did look at the script, something Ryan doesn't often do. We'll take a break. We'll be right back. This KS. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Starting point is 00:45:37 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live in San Francisco. So for folks wondering, we're going to be, we tape our cover zero podcast at 1045 a.m. Pacific, which is 145 Eastern. It's not live, but Mario will be taking pictures of us with all of the guests today. A lot of big ones. Terrell Davis, Christian McCaffrey, Bryce Young, busing with the boys. We got a lot. I am I'm struggling to figure out what we're going to say but we're going to make it work you and I we're both we're both dressed to the nines you're wearing to the fives we're wearing Steve McNair
Starting point is 00:46:22 t-shirt of course I got to got a got to rep Steve McNair at the Super Bowl like nice fleecy kind of hoodie and we're ready to go I'm wearing a UK hat you're wearing a D hat and are you excited to be on the NFL set this is the one day we can get to be on the set. We're not on the couches. We're on the sets. It's a big day for us. Yeah, and it's also our best day of guests, so it's like we're jumping right in. There's no warming up and preparing. We're getting
Starting point is 00:46:48 there and it's on with, I think Terrell Davis is first. I like busing with the boys a lot, big fan of both of them, but I know we're going to have to give them a little Will Stein business. I know that'll be a big part of the conversation, but looking forward to all of them. Big gets we have today. Yeah, so it'll be fun. And
Starting point is 00:47:02 Mario's going to be getting content from the, be a lot of famous people there today. Are you excited? Is there anybody you want to meet? I wouldn't say anyone in particular. I'm just the whole experience. I'm very excited to get in there.
Starting point is 00:47:19 I've been seen at the background on ESPN and NFL Network. Just being amongst them, being a part of something that big is what I'm most excited. One particular person. I've seen Mario flip out two times in my life. One was for Kevin Harlan and one was for Gilly, whoever that is. He's here, by the way. Confirmed Gilli in Sanford. Oh, look, he lit up.
Starting point is 00:47:39 I meant to tell you already, Mario. I meant to tell you, sorry. Oh, so he's guilty. So the question is, who'll be the next one? Because he'll flip out. Mario's not afraid to geek in front of somebody. So he'll flip out. Yeah, I don't know who will be here.
Starting point is 00:47:54 I guess I could have answered. We talked about this last night. I watched Good Morning Football a lot. You really like Peter? No, no. Kyle Brand. Yeah. I mean, I won't like fanboy, like Mario, but I would be excited to meet him.
Starting point is 00:48:05 I've been watching him every morning for several years. Who would make you really excited to meet today? I saw Gruden's walking around here. That would be a big one. That would be you want to be a gruden. Yeah. But I also don't want to freak out too much, Matt. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:16 Because you're trying to find a job. No. No, I'm happy where I'm at. And let's not forget. We've got to tell everybody that Ryan said hi. You got to tell everybody Ryan said that. I don't think there's anybody that I particularly want to meet. There's just some people I haven't seen it a long time.
Starting point is 00:48:29 Like, I haven't seen Dan Arlofski since COVID. So I'd like to see him. I think he's here. so that would be good. I like to see the part of my take, guys. I haven't seen them in person in a long time. Do you think Field Yates will get in your business today at all? I'm going to go to take Field Yates' chair,
Starting point is 00:48:50 just as a push to pullback. I'm going to go, you're in my chair, field. Take his chair and give it to Darlington so I can watch him spin it on his face or whatever he does. Oh, he does do the spinning thing. We need to feel and get him to spin something. Actually, that's my answer. That's what I want the most is Darlington to spin an object on his head.
Starting point is 00:49:06 And then, you know, I don't know. The problem is I don't know people. Even the ESPN, I don't know anybody. So, like, I think. There's a lot of bears walking around. Current bears. I mean, my main ESPN boss, like the person that decides my fate is here, and I've never met him. You've never met him.
Starting point is 00:49:26 No. He's like the big guy, like the big guy, ESPN. I'm supposed to meet today, and I've never met him in my life. apparently is a regular listener to my Sunday show, never met him one time. Are you going to hit him with the, it's me? I met all the people under him, but he is the, he's the main guy, Dave Roberts's name. I've never met him, and I'm going to meet him today. So.
Starting point is 00:49:46 So, a big day. Yeah. I was on the elevator here with someone that plays for the Lions, but I didn't know who he was. I didn't want to be like, hey, what's your name? But he had just got a delivery of a bunch of Lions gear. It was clear he needed to be wearing Lions gear, and I almost said, who are you? Yeah. But that would have been weird.
Starting point is 00:50:00 Well, this hotel we're at is where everyone's staying. So that's kind of cool. We're running to people. I'm excited. Today is, we've joked about Billy, but today is like a culmination for a lot of stuff we've worked for. This afternoon will be a lot of fun. You'll probably hear, assuming we beat Oklahoma tonight,
Starting point is 00:50:17 you'll probably hear a giddy postgame show. Well, let's do it right now for Draft Kings. Go to draftkings. I use my promo code KSR. Bet $5 win up to $200 in bonus bets. Kentucky is a nine and a half point favorite at home. against Oklahoma tonight. What are you thinking? You know, it's been fun winning
Starting point is 00:50:37 games and having Colin Chandler make winning plays, but I miss a good Rupparina blowout. I guess Mississippi State is the last team. They really piled it on. So I'll say they do that tonight. Have a fun night, win big. They cover the tent. Cover the tent. All right. I think it's going to be a little closer than that.
Starting point is 00:50:53 We underestimate Cal's ability to lay an egg in big games sometimes. So I think Kentucky wins, but Oklahoma will cover. Yeah, I'm going to say Kentucky's 77 70. So not cover, but when. I look, I mean, always two for two in Oklahoma games.
Starting point is 00:51:11 So I don't know why he wouldn't do another one. Does Brandon Garrison have a moment where it's, he needs to. I don't think he gets a technical or anything this game because I think he just, since he just got one. So I think he won't, he won't do that this game. But it wouldn't surprise me. A lot of content coming your way. There'll be a cover zero later. pregame shows at 630, post-game show tonight.
Starting point is 00:51:34 Thank you all very much, and thank you for making us the number one midday show in the USA. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio live in San Francisco.
