Starting point is 00:02:24 perfect rates, perfect timing, perfect market. The truth is, that moment doesn't really exist. A lot of buyers pause because of headlines or a sales. assumptions, but every situation is different. Race change, market shift, and personal goals matter just as much as what's happening nationally. Now here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Text Machine 772-744-5-254. We are here at the KS Bar and Grill. It is just open. Where are you from, ma'am? Lexington. Nice to see. Came up from Orlando.
Starting point is 00:03:45 All right. Well, good to see you. Came from the cold to Lexington in the summer in February. Yeah, well, interesting. It's okay. 859-28027. What were you doing there during the break? I got some real estate stuff going on.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Just trying to take care of that. All that good. Is the market moving? Market moving. A good time to buy. Go to Stockton Mortgage. Cameos, selling houses. You're kind of a hustler, aren't you?
Starting point is 00:04:10 I do want to say this. I have a moment. If you would have listened to the True Crime Radio show when you left KS Bar last night, you would have been up to date on the... On 94.5? On 94. I bet the listeners went up.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I bet the listeners for the mixed 94-5 true crime show. What time does it come on? 10 o'clock. It was perfect. We were leaving the restaurant right at 10 o'clock last night. I got to listen all the way home. So what's the update? Well, they updated us on the airport.
Starting point is 00:04:36 The El Paso Airport. I knew about the party balloon. Okay. But the Nancy Guthrie thing, they found two black gloves, like a mile and a half from the house. And they think maybe they might be associated with the crime. Okay. So what does that do for me? Well, they're just giving you an update.
Starting point is 00:04:51 They're asking for all the neighbors from like January on January 11th on or something. Look at the ring cameras. See if they've seen anything. I can't believe they haven't caught this guy. Yeah. I mean, it feels like they have every... Or is it a girl? Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:04 I can't believe they've caught this person. I really can't. I mean, we have the... Everyone looking for them. You would think like they'd have them, and they don't. So, kind of a surprise. 8.59-280-2287. Did you like the, Drew, the documentary short that came out?
Starting point is 00:05:20 CBS has been doing a documentary about UK basketball this year. They've had all access all year, and it's going to come out, the day between the final four and the national championship. So that Sunday afternoon is when it will come out. Video looked cool, didn't it? I enjoyed the clips. I hope that whiteboard's okay. Yeah, show Mark Pope punching the whiteboard,
Starting point is 00:05:45 which he said I think he heard his wrist on or whatever, right? Big knock there. I would tell him maybe next time I find a target behind the whiteboard and punch through it. But still, like seeing that fire, I'm really going to enjoy the most of the conversations. it looks like, you know, the guys, their apartments are driving around, and they're talking through the beginning of the year and how it felt on their end. I'll admit, though, it's not lost on me. The only other time we did this was the NIT year.
Starting point is 00:06:09 So I don't, it's answering some questions from early in the season if we believe in that jinx. But overall, I'm excited to watch it. I think they probably decided to do this, Ryan, because they thought we were going to be really, really good. And then we weren't. So do you think it will be more interesting to see us? go through the ups and downs, or would you, like, do you think it actually, I mean, you know, were they in the locker room for the Louisville game?
Starting point is 00:06:35 See, as a fan, I want to see this behind-the-scenes stuff. What happened at Louisville? What's been happening behind the scene? Do they really like each other? Do they hang out with each other? I'm hoping they get into some of that, and I think one of the sound bites of Motega in the trailer, he says something like, people saying we're fighting with each other? What are they talking about?
Starting point is 00:06:50 Yeah, he's like, they said, I fought somebody in the locker room. You know, he's acting like, what? But that was said quite a bit. Do we ever have a definitive answer as to what happened in that locker? Well, I wonder who has creative control of this. Like, if UK can't, I'm sure UK does to agree to it, but it'd be nice if someone that didn't care how it looked, the producers was like, this is exactly what happened right here. And whatever it is, we'll take it from there. Yeah, you know, well, they did one of these before besides the NIT year.
Starting point is 00:07:18 So we did it the NIT year. Then they did it Oscar's second year. Do you remember that? Like they did this Oscar's second year. year and when they lost, they just didn't think it was interesting enough, so they threw it away. They were sending a crew to Oscar's family and didn't even get there before Kentucky was out of the tournament. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:39 That's right. So they, uh, no, or was it, so it was Oscar's first year? It was year we lost St. Peter. Yeah, because they were sending a crew all the way to follow his mom and like how she's able to watch it. And they didn't even, I don't even think they got boots on the ground. So, yeah, they interviewed me like six times through the course of that year. And they were doing it about Oscars.
Starting point is 00:07:56 year we lost the St. Peter's and they're like, well, I think Taita might have had a sick relative that they went out and interviewed too. Yeah, so that was probably just lost money. Shannon, do you think it's a jinx to do a thing like this? No, but I do wonder, though, how much it did have an effect on, like, and somebody brought this up in the pre-show, like some of the slow starts that we've seen, you know, with cameras up in your face constantly before the game. I wonder if that had any effect on how they played. Especially the guys not used to any of this. You know, Oway, some of those guys lived it last year, but if you're brand new to the Kentucky basketball experience, and there's a camera crew in the locker room, I could see how that would impact you a little bit, like a Cam
Starting point is 00:08:33 Williams, who came from Tulane, and suddenly you have CBS all access everywhere. I mean, maybe, but I don't know how that would affect the on court when the game starts. I mean, the cameras are on you when the game. Just to say the lead-up with the ritual, you know, like some of these guys like to be in their zone, but yet you get cameras in your face the entire time. Maybe. And Cam Williams even said himself, it took a while to get comfortable going up a level. I can see why cameras and everyone around you in your face could play a role into you getting settled in. The only thing I can compare it to, Shannon, was when we had those cameras around. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:03 And it was weird for like a day, but then you get you, then you almost kind of forget their day. But you would tell people, hey, act naturally, but then people just, they can't because you got a camera in your face. It's hard. But you get over, at least for me, I got over that pretty quick. I was like that at first. But you kind of get over it, in my opinion, pretty quick because, like, you forget they're there. watching everybody else, obviously just like, you know, acting differently than there were people that act. You definitely could see there were people who turned on and acted on when the
Starting point is 00:09:34 camera was on. So you think you'd be able to tell is, is Pope acting or is he really mad punch? Pope's not acting. Pope wouldn't be acting. Pope wouldn't be acting. I think Pope would, it'll be interesting to see. I would love to see if we can actually learn a little bit about what happened in some of these things. Yes. But I also kind of think maybe we won't. Also, I want to finish strong so we can enjoy it. I mean, if we fizzle out and have a bad tournament loss, it obviously won't be nearly as exciting to follow the journey. I really want to finish this year on a good note.
Starting point is 00:10:03 There was the one player they followed for once. Was it a Brandon Boston they were following? Yeah, that was his own thing, though. Did that ever come out? No. It could have on his personal. That was like a helm and his buddy situation. The Big 12 is going to play their Big 12 tournament on a glass floor.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Remember the glass floor that we had for Big Blue Madness? They're going to do that for the Big 12 tournament, so to make it more exciting, they're going to have the, so they can put the graphics of the teams, and they're going to make it a whole thing. I like this a lot, assuming nobody gets hurt. I like it a lot because the conference tournaments for the major conferences, people can kind of think they don't mean anything. They mean something to me, but for a lot of people,
Starting point is 00:10:48 I think it's a cool thing to do, and it'll make me maybe a little more likely to watch it. like the Big 12 glass floor? I guess there's no risk involved or they wouldn't do it, but it seems like playing on a glass floor, you're taking a risk with an ankle or a knee or something slipping and falling. I guess... As long as they tell me it's safe,
Starting point is 00:11:09 which I would think they would not do it if it wasn't safe. What they're telling me is that their conference tournament is boring, so we've got to figure out a gimmick to make people watch. I do think, though, conference tournaments can be boring. on you know i mean if duke plays carolina we care about the kentucky games but i mean does anyone get excited about the big 12 conference tournament and the thing is the big 12 is probably the best conference this year it's got kansas got arizona texas tech iowa state i can see why you would say okay we're boring we need a glass floor that's what they're saying we're boring maybe but let's
Starting point is 00:11:46 but let's say they do i mean like maybe you're saying that but then you're saying that but then you're trying to remedy it, right? I'm excited to see it. I have two concerns. One is I want to hear a player talk about not just injuries. Like, are there dead spots? Like, you're just dribbling on something completely different than Hardwood. They've dribbled your whole life.
Starting point is 00:12:03 I wonder as a player if it just feels different affects the actual, like, game flow. And then my biggest concern, and I know we're heading this way, they're going to put so many logos on that thing for basketball game. I mean, they're going to sell every spot on that they can. That's a good point. Yeah. I hadn't thought about that. But I still for it.
Starting point is 00:12:22 I think it's better off for stuff like Madness, where you can do like a shooting contest where spots pop up and flames and all the graphics, and you can't really do that in a live game. Well, we'll see. I like the idea of trying to make something cool in a comment. And I think a conference tournament is an interesting way to start it. A major one, because like I said, chances are very low that somebody's going to be playing to go to the tournament.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Maybe, but it's unlikely. Someone at Rupp told me when they were installing the one for Madness, They dropped one of the panels and broke it and it did not go over well with the LED people. Like they have extras. Like, hey, let's be careful with our glass panels. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like. Who's next, Shannon? Bob and Jamestown.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Bob and Jamestown, 859-28027. Go ahead. Matt, tomorrow night, 9 o'clock, ESPN's going to showcase the last unbeaten team that hadn't played anybody. My alma mater, Miami University of a while at Millette Hall. 9 o'clock tomorrow night Yeah, I saw that I'm thinking about next Friday night going to the Miami of Ohio game
Starting point is 00:13:28 if they are still undefeated. So we'll see what happens. But yeah, they are on ESPN tomorrow night so they're being undefeated at the world will get to see them. But in the following week, they go to UMass for probably their toughest game at UMass. Yeah, all right, well, we'll see.
Starting point is 00:13:47 I didn't know that was your own. alma mater, but go, what is it, Red Hawks? Red Hawks. Yeah. Appreciate it. I'm a coached by Frank Martin. Frank Martin stands in their way of an undefeated season. I didn't know.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Scary news, Shannon. Running on nah. The newest guest on the Andy Beshear podcast is Rick Patino. And in his interview, Rick Patino says for the first time that he knows he should have been fired at U of L. He admits that. Admits he should have been fired at U of L. For so many years he was like, I knew nothing.
Starting point is 00:14:27 It was not under my control. I don't think he says he knew something, but he's basically, I think, taking responsibility of it was under my watch. Is he growing up right in front of our eyes here? Better late than never. Yeah? Well, I mean, you might as well do it at some point, right?
Starting point is 00:14:40 Yeah. The question is, will you listen? Are you going to tune in? Yeah, I'll listen. I think it's very short. It looks like. It's like 33 minutes. I feel like I can get through that.
Starting point is 00:14:49 In that case, I might listen. I got to drive. We'll be a little behind on my Andy podcast. We've got to drive to Radcliffe tomorrow. I'll listen to it. Apparently talks a lot about his time at Kentucky, tells Richie Farmer stories. That kind of stuff I love when he talks like that,
Starting point is 00:15:03 back in the day. Yeah, I think I would listen to it. Did you see the picture he tweeted last night of all those guys at dinner in New York? Who, Rip Petino? Does this guy not look like he cloned John Caliperi and made him sit by him? Oh, my goodness. That does look like John Calaparian.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Let me see that. He's like, I miss being. near cow. I have to have a carbon copy of cow to go to Rouse with me. Okay, so this is under at Real Patino. That's his account. That looks like AI John Cali Perry. It's like he ordered a clone of cow that he
Starting point is 00:15:31 wants to just take around New York. Look at Steve Mascello with a scarf. Yes, Steve's looking like big money there. Wow. The cow clones are incredible. That really does look like a close up right there. It looks just like him. Man. Timu John Calapari. No, that is Timu Cal.
Starting point is 00:15:48 That, people say people look like somebody. That really does. And he made him sit by him. Team Mucal. Who's next? Let's go to Josh. Josh, go ahead, Josh. Hey, I just want to say three things. I went to the Arkansas game.
Starting point is 00:16:03 That was electric. That was super fun. Oh, you were in Fayetteville? You were in Fayetteville? I was. Oh, that's awesome. Yeah, well, we traveled down there. That had to be great. Yeah, it was. Yeah, I bought about 50 bucks from the Arkansas fan, but, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:19 and then Tennessee sucks number two and then number three I don't know if you've seen this but in the Oklahoma game Brandon Garrison got pushed down going for rebound and when he got up he called the Oklahoma person
Starting point is 00:16:34 of a female dog basically I did not say that but that doesn't shock me that Garrison may have done that well yeah being at that Arkansas game would be great I appreciate the call I can't think of many games that would have been better to be at
Starting point is 00:16:49 Yeah, it'd be safe when you go to a road environment like that. But I think that place is talking about Garrison. Pope immediately ran on the floor. That's when he like immediately ran out there, kind of calm him down a little bit. Like within a second he was there. Dude, Garrison will get going. If you have cold mornings, dark commutes or winter weather, stop by Clark's pumping shop, they'll brighten your day.
Starting point is 00:17:08 They make it easier and cheaper with the Clark's reward apps. They got coffee, cold weather comfort. Nothing is better on a cold Kentucky morning than a hot cup of coffee with Clark's fresh beans. They got drive-through, they got pizza, drinks, ice. It's all there, and there's a Clark's pumping shop near you. And remember when you shop at Clarks, you're supporting people who care about the bluegrass.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Clark's pumping shop, return, refresh, refuel. We'll take a break. Canada just scored to lead for the first time in the Olympic hockey game. We'll be right back. KSI. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athletes themselves.
Starting point is 00:17:59 Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants.

Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
Starting point is 00:18:52 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app.

Starting point is 00:19:49 What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:20:10 If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Georgia accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives show. I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real House Wise franchise. the drama, the alliances, and the T, everybody's talking about.
Starting point is 00:20:44 As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this. At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Tegie Sports Radio. Drew just showed me this. There's a documentary coming out on Netflix about a murder in Louisville.
Starting point is 00:21:17 It's called Murder in Glitterball City. What do we know about it? What do they call it? 2010 murder. Body of James Carroll. He was killed in his mansion on 4th Street. In his mansion on 4th Street. South 4th Street.
Starting point is 00:21:31 So that's old Louisville, Shannon, right? Yeah, right down the road. There's some big houses. Yeah, there's some huge houses back there, some beautiful houses. So he was murdered in one of those? Based on a book, A Dark Room in Glitterball City. I've never heard it's called Glitterball City. Who calls Louisville Glitterball City?
Starting point is 00:21:49 First I've heard of it. I thought you all would have that answer. But who calls Louisville Glitterball City? Why would... Never one time heard of it. You ever heard that, Shannon? Never. No.
Starting point is 00:21:58 Why would it be called Glitter Ball City? Or are they saying like his house was Glitter Ball City? It's not making it clear what Glitter Ball City is. I'm trying to figure that out. I've not heard Glitter Ball City. Ball City in reference to Louisville before. Okay. Well, but a good Louisville, old Louisville murder mystery.
Starting point is 00:22:15 That's probably a good watching. I'll probably hear him talk about it on the true crime radio show tonight on Mix 94.5. Probably so. James Vanderbeek died from Dawson's Creek. He was our age. He was young in his 40s. Yeah, Colin cancer. He also was in the I don't want your life.
Starting point is 00:22:35 That's how I know him. Mox. You won. Friday nights. Varsity Blues. No, Varsity Blue. I don't want your life. I don't think I've ever seen the movie.
Starting point is 00:22:43 I just remember that. Dawson's Creek was huge. I never watched it, but that whole, what's the song? I don't want to wait for time to be over. That came from that one. Were you a Dawson's Creek person, Shenz? No, I know who he is, but I never watched it. You never seen Varsity Blue?
Starting point is 00:23:02 I don't think I have. I've seen that clip, but I don't know that I ever actually, Is that the one with the whip cream? Yep. Okay, then I've seen that. Yep, yep, yep. Also, I do. That's a scene I do remember.
Starting point is 00:23:15 Yeah, I'm going to remember one. That would be it. That's the scene I remember. Paul Walker also on that. They've had some young deaths from that cast, but that's a movie I saw many, many times. One is into Dawson's Creek, but Varsity Blues is a classic.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Very sad, though, in a reminder, because he had colon cancer, right? A reminder to get the colonoscopy, which you just did a couple weeks ago, because that's really sad. and he was, you know, he was, I think, 45 when he was, when he was diagnosed with it. I didn't know him. I didn't watch the movie, but it is just sad at a time of a young person dies way too young, so I hated to hear that.
Starting point is 00:23:47 A lot of kids, too. UK baseball starts their season tomorrow at UNC Greensboro. Oddly, games not on TV this weekend. I don't know why. So you can listen, though, on WLAP. Worldwide Todd Harris will be live streaming the game for UK baseball fans. He texted me that, too. He's going to stream it on something.
Starting point is 00:24:05 Yeah. He's going to hold up a phone and stream. The whole game. You want to watch UK baseball this weekend? Well, his son's in the rotation, right? Yes, Leighton will probably be pitching. So they, Kentucky's ranked preseason top 25. I think I kind of want to get into the year this year.
Starting point is 00:24:22 I hope it's not too cold when they start playing the home games, but we have apparently a rotation. We got a dude from Houston who can throw like 141 miles an hour. Wow, that would be a record, you know. That's what makes it exciting. Tyler Bell's back. He's like unanimous first team all-American infielder. He put on some size. He's going to be one of the best players in the country. And worldwide Todd Harris, who you've heard us talk about for years. His son is in the rotation.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Layton. He's, I think, the Saturday or Sunday starter. They use him for the graphic. That's when you know your big deal when they're putting you as the face. Do you think this fan base, I feel like this fan base follows baseball quite a bit more. I mean, we have two writers now covering it for KSR. Are you excited about that? the season. I am. I mean, they're coming off the, you know, the first ever trip to the college world series. They're making a deep run in the NCAA tournament year after year after year. You have to be excited about it, especially when you talked about, like you said, this rotation is supposed to be one of the best in the SEC. They're weak in rotation, so good luck to them.
Starting point is 00:25:19 They're going to be playing the scrappy stuff. Their weaknesses, they worry if they have enough hitting, so they're going to be doing all the stuff they used to do. That's all right. I think they're going to have a good year. I've really gotten into them the last couple seasons. I feel I feel like it's a little early. Like it snuck up. on everyone, and I hate that it's not even on TV this weekend, but once they get a little farther in the year and have these home games in Lexington with some good weather, you'll see you out there a lot.
Starting point is 00:25:42 It is crazy to me that there's snow on the ground and we're playing baseball. In North Carolina, I don't feel like that's far enough north. A high school baseball opens next week in Kentucky. Here? Yes. They're playing high school baseball here next week? Next week, they open up next week, yep. My goodness.
Starting point is 00:25:59 I want to talk about Tyler Bell. He was a second round draft pick out of high school and he turned it down to go to UK because he said I bet on my I'm betting on myself well it looks like it's been working out for him yeah all right first home games Tuesday more head so we play here next week yes wow and then I think maybe a late
Starting point is 00:26:19 basketball game that night maybe what did you say no six oh it was supposed to be in the 60s Tuesday well perfect timing there we go perfect timing who's up first Robert or next Robert go ahead Robert Hey yeah I think I know why they called it Glitterball City Okay
Starting point is 00:26:36 There's a fun fact Louisville makes like at one time Or still does makes most of the Disco mirror disco glitter balls And I'm assuming it has something to do with that I don't know if it was somebody who owned the company That made them or something I have heard that
Starting point is 00:26:55 But I didn't think it was Louisville I remember when I was doing my book Hearing that there was a town in Kentucky that made all the glitter balls. I wanted to say it was like, but you're saying it's Louisville. Well, if I remember right, at one time it was in Louisville,
Starting point is 00:27:12 they may have moved to New Albany and moved back to Louisville, but if you look it up by, you know, who makes all the glitter balls, Google that way, I'm sure that would probably connect the dots. Okay, all right, I appreciate the call. I've never heard that.
Starting point is 00:27:25 That's kind of a fun fact, but I've never heard that. There's a glitter ball city walking tour in Louisville. There's a glitter ball city walking tour in Louisville. There's a glitter ball. city walking tour. Well, here, the text machine usually has these answers. Somebody will know why they call it
Starting point is 00:27:38 Glitter Ball City. All right, here we go. I have an answer. Okay. From Disco Ball's Wikipedia page. They are mostly made in Louisville at Omega National Products. So we are the... Louisville is the Glitter Ball City.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Even now. Why are we never heard of this? I don't know. Louisville is the world's largest manufacturer of disco balls, there are even more disco balls made in Louisville than in China and Japan, which are second and third. Omega claims to have made 90% of all disco balls. Wow.
Starting point is 00:28:11 And there was a resurgence in disco balls in 2020. So they say you can't bring manufacturing to America. Apparently you can so long as you're making glitter balls. I didn't know they were still made on Baxter Avenue. Look at that. Well, again, that's right up the street from here. Wow. Go get a disco ball and just hanging in here.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Who knew? Who knew? All right, who's next? All right, Steve up next. Steve, go ahead, Steve. Hey, guys. Glad y'all are finally getting rid of the snow up there. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:28:41 About 40 seconds. Okay, yeah, I think the key to Saturday's game is Gellovich. We've got to get a big game out of him with his size. We may even have to go big with all three bigs in at the same time. Yeah, there are some teams have had to do that. I think that would really hurt us if we have to do it. But Yellovich is a dude who can shoot and also be a big. And that he will be.
Starting point is 00:29:07 I agree with you. He actually is huge on Saturday. All right, guys. Well, good luck and go catch. Thank you. It's going to be a tough, tough matchup. We're here at KS. Mar and Grill. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:29:19 Be right back. Stucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. I'd never heard of this song, Shannon, until six months ago.
Starting point is 00:29:35 And then on TikTok, I found a Zach Top cover of it. Everything that's glittered is not gold. And it's great covers. I like Zach Top a lot. Then I found on TikTok, I got to send this to you, Shannon. I don't know what was happening. They got like every big country music star in the early 80s to sit in a circle and sing together. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:29:56 I haven't seen this. It's like Merle Haggard, well, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Ricky Skaggs. It's got George Strait. Like, they're all sitting in a circle. Was Dan Seals there? And Dan Seals is there. And Dan Seals sings this song, and they all sing the chorus with him.
Starting point is 00:30:16 Really? And it's kind of awesome. It does sound awesome. And I think this song is actually really great. Do you know this song? Oh, I know the song, but I don't know the story about them. I may, Shannon, during the next, I may send you, maybe you can play it in the next break. The version, it's, it's, it's, it's a lot slower than this version, but they're all just sitting in a circle singing together.
Starting point is 00:30:39 I didn't, I don't think that happens now. We need to bring that back. All the big country singers just getting a circle and dot, I think Emmy Lou Harris is sitting there. Like, it's all these big famous people. I'm picturing them on the floor. Were they in chairs? I'm seeing them all just sitting around on the ground with guitars. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:52 No, they're all sitting in like a semi-circle with guitars. it's just it's kind of cool. So we need to bring that back. 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, what is Ryan doing for his woman on Valentine's Day? Well, I told you I already gave her the most romantic gift I've ever given anyone on Valentine's Day. I bought her tickets to go see the Houston Rockets play the Indiana Pacers because she likes Reed Shepherd. Kind of hard to top that one.
Starting point is 00:31:15 I'm already kind of in for the couple years now. So you're not going to do anything, that's what you're saying. We're going to dinner. On Saturday? Saturday night, yeah. Because Kentucky plays at three. Kentucky plays at three. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Post-game show will be, I'll end it at like 730 or 8. Do you have a reservation? I do. Do you want to say where? Or do you don't want the paparazzi to show up? Well, it was tough, so we're going to try a new place. You should be eating by yourself, really. Yeah, he should, but we still haven't gotten that yet.
Starting point is 00:31:44 But go ahead. Have you been to 310? Oh, I love 310. Big 310. But it used to be called Table 310. Yeah, changed ownership, kind of kept saying. Got rid of the tables? The address.
Starting point is 00:31:55 Big 310 fan. They eat standing up. They recently just changed their vibe without really telling anyone, which is fine. It's started a great time, but I walked in and just a little different. What's 310? What's 310? I don't know what it is. It's a restaurant. It's a name their restaurant.
Starting point is 00:32:07 Where is it? Over by Cheapside and. Okay. So you're going to a new restaurant? Yeah. You're going to wear something fancy? I'll probably, you know, put on my expensive jeans and a nice little. I like what do you bring out the expensive jeans.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Well, you know, they're $500 pair of jeans. I won at the John Caliperie fantasy camp. They only come out for special occasions. The blue Delta jeans I forgot you won those I did You won the calipari jeans The year before they gave everybody all expense
Starting point is 00:32:33 paid trip to Las Vegas And the year before that was Armani suit Armani suit And you got a pair of jeans I got a pair of jeans Good jeans though right $500 pair of jeans
Starting point is 00:32:42 We're good at the bow buns I hope you enjoy it It's really good in them too Okay not necessary Who's up next Let's go to Joseph Joseph go ahead Joseph Joseph
Starting point is 00:32:55 things here. What is going to take save the basketball season this year? And what does Pope have to do in the all season to get fans on board for next year as far as as your food? I think fans are on board next year regardless. I mean, you know, Kentucky basketball, Kentucky football, the fans sometimes have to be sold on the season. I think Kentucky basketball,
Starting point is 00:33:19 can you think of a year ever that Kentucky basketball fans haven't been excited going in the year? No. Even the 1916 year, we were all jacked up. I mean, let's think about it. What is the last year that Kentucky fans were not excited going into the season? I don't think I have one.
Starting point is 00:33:40 There's nothing else you talk yourself into it. Yeah, exactly. That's exactly right. I think you talk yourself into it. Maybe one of those last year or two of tubby. Maybe. But I still think people get into it. I don't see any scenario where fans are not excited about next season, rallying around the team.
Starting point is 00:34:03 You know, maybe if they just completely bomb in the portal and don't get anybody. But if they do that, then they're going to be bringing a lot of these guys back, and so people will know the players. We talk ourselves into it every offseason, get excited about the upcoming season. I think even like Billy's two years, we're excited going into the season with the roster he had. It just didn't work out. So I think your answer may be right, one of those last two tubby years. make a prediction here. There are 13 guys on the team, three of them can't come back. O.A., Aberdeen,
Starting point is 00:34:34 and let's just assume Quaintance is going to the draft. So that leaves 10 players on the team that are scholarship players. I'm going to throw Hawthorne as the 10th. Let's leave Reese Potter out just because we haven't seen him at all. So 10 guys, how many of those 10 guys are playing for Kentucky next year? Without saying names, just the number. Of the 10 that could return, how many come back? I'll say five. Five. Let me count in my head who I've got.
Starting point is 00:35:06 You've got one, two, three. I'm going to make them four, five. I'm going to say six. I'm going to say six of the 10. Come back. What about you? I was going to go four, and I was almost getting ready to say three. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:35:21 I was close for four than six, if that helps. I'm like a 4.5. Okay. You think it could just be three. I think it's possible. Okay. That's interesting. All right, what about you, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:35:31 Yeah, I thought half. So five is what I would guess. It's interesting to think. I mean, I won't make you all go. I'm going to, I'm going to take as a given that Moreno, Williams, and Chandler, and Hawthorne will be back. So I'm taking those four. I think we're going to pay Moreno. So pay him.
Starting point is 00:35:54 We'll pay. They'll find it. They're not going to let a consider. Kentucky kid that's been like here. They're not going to let him get out. I would be, I mean, maybe I'd be wrong, but there'll be local business. It's no, local businesses will step up for him.
Starting point is 00:36:08 I'd say, I feel good about. Yeah, but that wasn't, no offense to Travis Perry. He hadn't shown what Michael Moreno is shown. I don't think there was the pressure to try to keep him. So I'm going to say those four, yes, for sure. And then. Then it gets a little dicey. then it gets more dicey.
Starting point is 00:36:27 I'm going to say they find a way to want to and do keep two other guys, but I would not be certain what to. But if you made me go, all right, Matt, go all in on who the other two would be. I would say Noah and... I think Yelovich is an interesting. That was going to be my next one. Yellovich. Or low.
Starting point is 00:36:54 I don't know what they're going to do with it. I don't know whether they want him. So I don't know. People might not like my take, but take the emotions out of it, recruit over everyone except maybe Marino. Go get the best in the portal. Sorry. You would recruit over Cam Williams, though.
Starting point is 00:37:13 Every single position I'm offering the best player and seeing what happens. Yeah, I disagree with you there. I like those three that I feel really good about. I think you bring those guys back. Now, you go and maybe try to get guys better than them, but you try to bring it. Like I like that Lowe tried to play, but I think you go into this offseason
Starting point is 00:37:30 trying to find the best point guard in the country. And you do that just about every single spot on the roster. But if our guys entered the portal, let's say Moreno, Williams, and Chandler entered the portal, they would be top 25 guys in the portal, all three of them. Yeah. So you've got them. Don't let them go.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Some of those other guys I'm not disagreeing with you on. But those three guys would be ranked in the top 25 in the portal. Don't you think? I think so. I think Trent's going to be interesting. He's playing a lot now, but I'm sure he was unhappy in the middle of the season. Yellovich is a guy who's starting now,
Starting point is 00:38:05 but I can see the fact that he could return home through his home country and play professionally. Yeah, he could. Or, yeah, there's a lot of things he could do. Who's next? Terry. Terry, go ahead, Terry. A couple of entertainment things in a basketball take.
Starting point is 00:38:18 Did you know Dan Seals was the, in the group, England, Dan and John Ford Co. in its soft rock days. Never heard of that group, so no, I did not. I know Shannon knows them. And I got a show recommendation for you guys, especially Drew, because I think he likes these ten of things. It just came out in January.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Do you have a killer? Say that again, you broke up. What was the name of it? Memory of a killer with Patrick Dempsey, McDreamy. He's like a, he lives a double life. All right. Good. Write that one now.
Starting point is 00:39:00 And as far as the Florida game, Florida game, you look at who they've played their last five games. I'm taking nothing away from Florida. They're playing great, but they haven't exactly been playing teams that are defensively strong. And they're not going to continue to beat everybody about 30 points. That's got to end at some point, and it might as well be Saturday. Pying up a listen. Thank you. Appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:39:24 Yeah. I mean, that's, we'll see. I think that's a game Saturday that's either we're really competitive and in it or we get blown off the street. What will the spread be you think when it comes out? Florida by eight and a half. I was because they're close to 10. I'll say nine and a half just to be different. Yeah, somewhere around there.

We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.

Listen to D.E. deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. See, I think this is really cool. Is this the one with all the country guys? They're all sitting around, like a semi-circle and they're singing. I think I like this song too, Shannon, because he does the thing you know I like with the voice. When people go, yeah, like when John Anderson died, I always like when guys change.
Starting point is 00:44:28 their voice from high to low or whatever really quick. It's had to be a long time ago because Roy Clark's in this video. Yeah, Roy Clark is in it. Who's long dead. Yeah. So, yeah. It's kind of cool. I want to see the video, though.
Starting point is 00:44:42 It's on TikTok. On TikTok. Yeah, on TikTok. The TikTok. 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt Drew is correct. About how we should approach the portal. Your approach will be making the same mistake we've made the last two years and not
Starting point is 00:44:53 getting guys who were the dude at their last school. Chandler and Cam don't fit that. bill. I understand that philosophy, but I also think, you know, we can't get everybody we want. We saw that in the last portal. You know, there's a lot of guys we wanted that we didn't get. So part of what I would ask is if Cam Williams goes in the portal, what schools are going to want it? I'm going to say Michael Moreno and Cam Williams will be wanted by everybody. Malachi. Well, I was saying, I'm sorry, Malachi Moreno and Cam Williams. And Colin Chandler, I think we be wanted by most people.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Maybe not everybody. So if you have guys that everybody wants, then I think you want to keep those guys. Now, some other of our guys would only be wanted Drew by some teams. But I think those three guys, with the exception of maybe Duke because they've got so many people coming in,
Starting point is 00:45:50 I think everybody would want those three guys. I like Cam Williams, hope we keep him. But if there's a star out there that I think you've thrown a bag, I mean, we still haven't seen Cam Williams' potential. Maybe he never hits it. Maybe. And a lot of it is how this year ends. If they don't make the weekend of the SEC tournament and lose first meeting in NCAA,
Starting point is 00:46:06 then are those guys all going to be hot portal targets? Malachi is going to be hot. Malachi is the one where you think you got a lot of it. There's no way. And Pope can't lose Malachi Marine. Agreed. Like he cannot lose him for any reason. I consider him one of the stars that you would go out and chase.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Like I wouldn't recruit over him. But I would look at everyone else and say, hey, I'm calling people. We'll figure it out. but I have to go out and find the best. Yeah, I'm hearing that a lot like what you said. Your texture was just saying that last year they went out and got six man in Aberdeen, six man in DeBate, six man in Cam Wayne. They didn't necessarily go out and get a dude.
Starting point is 00:46:41 Yeah. I just saw so that would remind you of the portal list last year. Not as many dudes, right? Like a lot of guys are staying at their schools. So the guys you get, I mean, did we have, what, the third or fourth highest-ranked portal class? Now, you're right, the difference between recruiting sixth men and best players at their school, I think, is an important difference. But, you know, Donovan Dent was the number one point guard. He was the dude at New Mexico.
Starting point is 00:47:09 Right. He's not been very good. So I think, I don't think Mark Pope, let me, I'll finish with this. Mark Pope is not a coach who I think you can turn his whole roster over and he's great at that. You know, I think you, I think having dudes getting their second year helps. Really hadn't helped with Garrison. lot but I think you help with O.A. I think it help with Chandler. So a third year to me with those guys would be good. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:47:36 Shannon. Shannon. Shannon. Go ahead, Shannon. I want to give a shout out to the trancy, men and women. Both of them are leading their conference. The men are sitting at 15 and 8. 12. Oh, no. What happens with these people's phones? Is that us or them? Shavin? That's them. Okay. Well, I'm sorry. Shout out to the trancey. Trancy and he Yeah, shout out to Trancy.
Starting point is 00:47:59 I would like to, who's good in high school basketball this year? Did I see that, like, is Davis County number one? Davis County's got a kid named Moss who's being recruited like by, I think Maryland's even recruiting him, like some major kids. St. X has got maybe the best sophomore in the story. He is the best sophomore. Who are like the five best teams from the staff? It's really good.
Starting point is 00:48:17 So Davis County, St. X, Coving and Catholic, who else? Madison Central's really good. Matt Central's the best team around here for sure. They got Feldhouse's kid. Darren Felthouse's kid is going to Belmont. Is there anybody good in the mountains? I'm sure there are.
Starting point is 00:48:32 Let's just go ahead and say Middlesbril's good. I don't think they're very good. One of the North Laurel, they're all right. I guess I could look at the KSR top 25. I just feel like I haven't heard as much about high school basketball this year to know who's good. Who's next? Charles. Charles, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:48:51 Hey, Matt. I just want to let you know. I go to the Kentucky singles dance. every year, every Sunday night, and they give away, they raffle off two tickets to the UOVL game or $100 in cash, and everybody takes the money, even the UOVL fans. Is that right? Yeah, I'm the disc jockey. He tries to keep it secret, but I go up and ask them, and even the UL fans, they want those tickets.
Starting point is 00:49:17 That's great. What is the Kentucky singles dance? Yes, it's at the Moose Lodge every Sunday night in Fagan Bush Lane in Louisville. Oh, wow. So it's all single people, and do people really dance? Oh, yeah, usually dance. I think my dad goes to this. Wait a minute, your dad goes, Shannon? I think he does. He always talks about the Moose Lodge on the weekends in Louisville.
Starting point is 00:49:40 The Moose Lodge? I knew nothing about this. So the Moose Lodge in Louisville has a singles dance. How many people go, sir? Oh, man, I don't know. It's a pretty good crowd. The parking lot's pretty full. It's a lot of women. men usually it's a 50 and up crowd like the old jim porter's crowd and is it men like what's the men to women ratio uh there's probably a few more women than men because the women
Starting point is 00:50:04 wow so i can see why your dad goes shannon the one thing is he's not single oh but but there's a few of those there sir i want to thank you all right this sunday night they're having the KSR and Matt Jones night. So anybody just mentioned Matt Jones or KSR and you get in free. Okay. You may have been doing that as an ad, although I will say, I think it would be interesting to see
Starting point is 00:50:34 the Moose Lodge Sunday night. I think I'm going to go one night just to see what's going on there. Oh, I bet that it might not let me in. I might be too young to get in, but I'll try. I bet there be some boot scooting. By the way, the best ones. Coming to Catholic, Davis County, Madison Central, St. X. Jefferson Town,
Starting point is 00:50:50 George Rogers Clark, McCracken, Ballard, North Oldham, North Laurel. There you go. Terms will start per in a couple weeks. It feels like some different names there this year as well. All right, Draft Kings. We're going to go with our hockey team is played. USA hockey, go to Draft Kings. You can promo code KSR, Bet 5.
Starting point is 00:51:10 You can win up to $300 in bonus pets. We play Latvia at 3 o'clock. Who you got? These colors don't run. Latvia is going to be scared of, the United States. We're taking United States. I'm also at the Kentucky Wildcats. That's our pep talk.
Starting point is 00:51:26 I might go Latvia. Yeah, let's not have you talk in front of the... I wouldn't fill in the miracle vibes there and then build up. Well, we're that heavy favorite, so hopefully we can win. You got the United States or Latvia? I think I'll go with the U.S. All right, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:51:41 Latvia. No, I'm just kidding. Marga. Let's go. America. That would be a big heel move to pick Latvia. Watch the Chukukuk. Chak. The what? Chishu.
Starting point is 00:51:53 Tick. Tchuk. Chalk. To Chuck. Brothers. They're good. Good luck, Chuck. Good luck.
