We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes,
Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's he at?

Now, here's Matt Jones.
Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio Friday, February the 20th.
I'm Matt Jones here in Lexington, Kentucky.
We are at the studio with Ryan and Drew.
Shannon is in Louis.
as is Mario. You can give us a shout. It is Friday. Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. Rare Friday,
not at a remote, but we're not. So we are here. 859-2802287. A Vision Auto Glass text
machine 772-745254 in this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. If you call T.J., he'll
make them pay. Drew came in here with such a happy gift for me. Yes, it was. This is the
the Converse
1996
UK shoes
the denim's
converse with a box
that says
Untouchables 1996
you said they only made
96 of the box
96 boxes
and I have one
and so now I will treasure this
like as a shoe thing
I guess Oneness
gave this to me
so thank you to Oneness
and these shoes
this is what the 96 team wore Ryan
and now I can walk
around and act like I played on the team.
You and Drew had a good discussion.
Some people don't want to wear them. They're keep them fresh.
You're like, there are shoes. Wear them.
Yeah, I mean, I have, I counted.
I now have 300 pairs of sneakers.
Oh, boy.
That's a lot.
That's too many.
That's 600, according to math.
That's 600.
Yeah, that's 600 individual shoes.
Let me do the math for you. That's 600.
But I wear them all.
Including I have a couple that are worth a lot of money.
But I'm like, what's the point?
What's the point to have and choose if you don't wear?
Right.
People keep them fresh and even keep them in the box.
But why?
I don't know.
It's like buying a painting and putting it in storage.
Yeah.
I understand that they can be worth money.
But Shannon, as I've said, just buy stock.
If you don't want to look at it or wear it.
Yeah.
I'm even like that with Burr.
carbon collectors.
Yes.
I agree with you.
Why are you looking at it?
I can fill it up with tea.
If you're just keeping it to keep it,
well, why did you get it?
Just buy a stock.
True.
Let it work for you.
You wore yours.
Yeah.
Now, I was saying I regretted walking through KS Bar's kitchen in them.
There are certain areas where they need to be a little more conscious.
Rainy days, I try not to wear my best shoes.
You know, common sense stuff.
Yeah.
No, I will not wear white shoes on rainy days.
Things like that, yes.
I completely swayed on rainy days.
But shoes like those are kind of special.
Do you wear them just on special occasions?
I wore them to the Georgia game.
It was not special.
Yeah, you've already jinxed yours.
Like this, I would wear to like the SEC tournament.
Okay.
Right?
Like I will or something like that.
But yeah, I'm going to wear them.
Now, I will keep the box.
Normally I throw the boxes away, which also takes away their value.
People want you to have the boxes.
Right.
When you sell them, resale.
I'm not keeping Shannon 300 boxes in my.
house? What am I going to do with 300-bike boxes? Well, if you buy that new house, you could have a
whole room, just a shoe room. A box. Well, no, I may have a shoe room. But a box room. But I'm not going to
have a box room. But I will keep this box. In this case, the box is maybe more valuable than the
shoe if they have a lot of the shoes. Look underneath the box. Got all the players' jersey
number on the- Yeah, got all the players in Jersey number. Let's do a quick Ryan Limit test.
All right. This is the 96. You tell me what player was each jersey. Here we go. Double zero.
Tony Delke.
Three.
Alan Edwards.
Five.
Wayne Turner.
13.
Oh, come on.
I know 13.
I know 13.
Naze Muhammad.
Nazi Muhammad.
15.
Jeff Shepard.
21.
Cameron Mills.
23.
Derek Anderson.
24.
Antoine Walker.
25.
Anthony Epps.
32.
32.
Oh.
32.
You got it.
You're doing it.
Let's go back to that one.
All right.
33.
Ron Mercer
40
Walter McCarty
41 Mark Pope
43
43
and then 51
52
51
I think I know who 51
I know 51 for sure
32 43 51
you have a chance
to be perfect
now I want you think who you've forgotten
Yeah I'm trying to think
I can think of the three players you've forgotten
So 32
43 51
One still around Lexington a little bit
I know 30 games.
I know 32.
You know 32.
Come on, you got this, Ryan.
32.
Jared Prickett?
Yeah.
43 and 51.
Can he do it?
Oliver Simmons is one of them.
Okay.
Which one?
I'm going to say 51.
Yes.
Now, who's 43?
Oh, my.
Can he go with a clean sweep?
43.
Oh.
Going once.
He's not getting this.
Jason Lathrim.
Look at this.
Jason Lathrim.
Look at this.
Is that it was?
Ryan Liven.
I slept to the Holiday Express last night.
That is really impressive to get all that whole team.
To get Jason Lathrim, I knew Jason Lathrim.
I didn't think you were going to get Jason Lathrim.
See, I didn't know his number.
I was just trying to remember who was on the team.
That's, Shannon, you got to admit.
Very, very impressive.
That's really good for this guy.
I think you should give him the box for doing that.
No.
It's impressive.
No, but I am proud of it.
You see like he doesn't know
basic living facts
but he can name
every number and player
from the 96th.
It's that big brain.
Ryan Laman's big brain.
I was going to get him a pair of shoes, but they didn't have an eight.
So I'm sorry, Ryan.
It'll make baby sizes.
They're like these are basketball shoes.
Is that what you wear?
Eight and a half or a nine usually.
I can probably squeeze in an eight.
He wears an eight.
Sorry.
Well, listen,
you get one segment without me giving you
a hard time. That was really good. Okay. That's fair.
Jason Lathor. When's the last time you thought of Jason Lathor?
Today.
Well, that's true. But before that, I was talking about the breakfast.
Just a minute ago, Matt, did you not hear me say his name? And like I thought it wasn't for
sure if Prickett counted because I don't think he was really on the team that year.
Didn't he redshirt that year or something? No, he played. He did play that year.
Yeah. It wasn't that his senior year?
Maybe it was Shepard. Shepard. Redshirt. Shepard Redshirt. It was it was it was Prickett's
year year.
Well, well done.
859-28027.
He's in that brain mode because we did trivia last night.
Our team didn't do very well.
Yeah, you didn't.
But that's okay.
You know, not everybody knows.
The question that I was surprised,
people didn't do better was in the Cal era,
who's had the best free throw percentage
for a season, the top eight?
So, Shannon, you and Drew were not there.
Yeah.
Let's quickly do that.
Best free throw percentage for a season.
Let me give you a hint about season.
Duran Lamb had a really bad freshman year free throw.
Excuse me.
Had a good career, but both seasons was like ninth.
So he didn't end up in the top eight.
So that's a little hint.
Who's the top of it?
Well, I know the top two.
It's Emmanuel Quickly and Tyler Hero.
Tyler Hero shot 93.7%.
And Emmanuel Quickly was like 92%.
And they were on the same team.
So, I mean, that was a pretty good free throw shooting.
Yeah.
All right, so you got that. Those were the top two.
Chan, you do.
Do you want a take a stab?
Antonio Reeves.
Antonio Reeves is third.
So you just got the top three, which is very well done.
Top three, Drew and Shannon, combined to get.
Now, it gets a little hard.
There's one more, I think,'s pretty easy, and then it gets a little harder.
I got one I'm confident in.
Tyler Ulyss is four.
You guys got the top four.
This is the smartest this show has ever been.
We just know free throw shooters.
Free throw shooters and numbers from the 96 team.
All right.
Now, five, six, seven, and eight.
One of them, I think's easy.
I actually think five, six, seven kind of hard.
Eight's pretty easy, I think.
See, we only got five of eight.
Is Jamal Murray on there?
Jamal Murray's not.
Sorry, just go ahead and give it.
Just go ahead and give it.
Tyree smacks.
Tyree smacks?
Well done.
Seven.
A lot of people don't have Tyreys Macs.
Read is eight.
Okay, now still, good stuff.
Five and six are the two hardest ones.
Yeah.
Five and six are the hard ones.
Five shocked me.
Six, I might have got him.
I feel like it's going to be a random like Derek Willis or something.
It's a good guess, but no.
Five or six is Julius Mays.
Okay.
But five, I had no idea that he was this good of free throw shooter was Darius Miller.
Yeah.
If only we'd just talk to him a few days ago.
I had no idea that Darius Miller had a top five UK season.
Remember being good.
Wouldn't have had top eight.
I probably could have guessed 50 names before saying Julius Mays too.
He just came.
I would have gotten Julius May.
I mean, I don't know if I'd have gotten even the top eight, but Julius Mays,
underrated play, because the team was bad and people, like, because Nerlin's got hurt
and Julius Mays kind of was the best player on that team, we have a view of him like he wasn't good.
But he was good.
He was supposed to be like the six man on that team.
He was.
And he ended up having to be the best player.
Leading score most of these.
leading score and people were not sort of used to that.
Well, even Corey Price said he only got three of the eight.
It's hard.
It is hard.
It is hard.
We got five of the 80.
He said he got three of the eight.
All right.
We're going to go preview the game, play Auburn on Saturday.
We also will take your calls.
I never know when to do things like this, but it's on my mind, so I'm just going to start
with it.
I want to just take a second ending this segment and note my sadness about the death of Wes
Rucker.
So for those of you that don't know, Wes Rucker was like a massive Tennessee
Volz reporter, 43 years old.
He, in my opinion, it was the biggest presence covering Tennessee sports online, especially
on Twitter.
If you have ever engaged about Tennessee on Twitter, you know who Wes Rucker is.
he was the most passionate Tennessee reporter because he was a fan reporter and he was a Tennessee fan
that you could have and he passed away yesterday unexpectedly in a car wreck he was riding and for those
of you that know Knoxville he was riding on the interstate there there was a traffic backup and I guess
a bunch of cars chain reaction and he he was killed it really
just breaks my heart. I mean, his story is tragic. He has a wife. First of all, he started on a fan
side, rose up, has had a bunch of different jobs. He had a stroke a little while back, had to
reteach himself to walk, has a four-year-old who the four-year-old had a lot of health issues
and that he's been dealing with that for years.
He has a second child, his wife is pregnant with a second child now.
Oh, no.
He just posted about it the other day.
We became friends over the years.
I went back last night and looked at our DMs.
Our first DM was before the Kentucky, Tennessee football game in 2010,
with me asking him to come on a new KSR back then.
That was back when we first started.
We'd only been on the air month.
Um, we, the best way I can describe it is that we were like internet friends.
You know, you have some of those.
Sure.
We talked all the time on the internet, whether it was DMs or sometimes text messages.
We only met a handful of times in life, but we shared a lot of similar interest, um, similar views.
We both knew what it was like to deal with fan bases that sometimes would get mad at you.
Um, and we would talk about that.
And he's just a, he was just a really great guy.
And he loved Tennessee the way we love Kentucky, like loved it.
Would yell about the refs.
Would yell about times he thought they were wronged.
Would take up for them in the media.
And he, yesterday, I was watching the women's hockey game.
And I got on Twitter.
And the first comment I saw was him celebrating the women's hockey gold medal win.
That's how he was.
He posted on Twitter more than anybody I know.
Yeah.
He posted that at like three.
30.
Got in his car to drive home and died at like,
I want everybody to pray for his family,
his wife,
he has a child,
another child coming.
I can't imagine what they're going through.
He's a great guy,
great reporter,
and just a great Tennessee volunteer fan.
And in addition to thinking about him
and praying for him and his family,
Also, man, just appreciate life.
He was posting about a hockey game,
and he was killed less than an hour later on his drive home from work.
Life is fleeting, and you never know what's going to happen.
So prayers to Wes Rucker, my friend, and his family.
We'll take a break and be right back.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,

We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves.
Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear.

And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you
hear on earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash will get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers
why he got the ball.
Like, after you go through a training camp
with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,

What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth.

Welcome back.
Techie Sports Radio 859-280-827.
Text Machine 772-7-7-4-254.
In some world news,
Supreme Court just struck down Trump's tariffs.
So that'll be chaos.
Because, you know, they raised all his money
and now they're going to pray to have to give it back to people.
How do they even know how to do that?
That must have just happened because it wasn't any of my news reports I listened to in the morning.
It wasn't on 94-5.
No, no, 94. It wasn't on the pre-show.
Didn't hear it, no.
So, yeah. So, I mean, do we even know it really happened for sure?
Well, if it's on the internet, it must be true.
Yeah.
But if it's not on those shows.
It's true.
If Shannon and Billy didn't talk about it, it ain't happening.
That's a good point.
Yeah.
Good philosophy to have.
Yeah, since it didn't happen, I'm not sure if it's real.
UK and Auburn play tomorrow 830 night game.
Amazing day at college basketball tomorrow.
Michigan and Duke playing a rare non-conference February game.
Let me say, I'm going on record as I have every year at this time.
Kentucky should play Louisville in February right now.
The week or two after the Super Bowl should be when Kentucky plays Louisville.
That's what college basketball should do.
They should have a array of non-conference games this weekend.
They have won, which is Duke and Michigan.
That'll be a great game.
That might be one of the most watch games of the year.
it probably will be.
It should be.
Yeah.
And then I think what, Arizona plays, like it's one versus three.
It's Houston.
It's like a final four.
So it's like one versus three and two versus four.
Wow.
And then when those are over, we play.
Play Kentucky.
We play Auburn.
We're a two and a half point underdog at Auburn.
Auburn just lost at Mississippi State.
They've lost like a five in a row, I think.
Lost five in a row.
That's kind of how Georgia was, but we lost at home.
Yeah.
We're a two and a half point underdog.
tell me we're going to win Saturday.
If we win Saturday, it's almost like the Georgia game didn't happen.
I'll tell you whatever you want to hear.
Yeah, we'll win.
Sure, I'll tell you.
Do you believe it?
I'm to the point.
I can't set an expectation or even my brain.
I can't even like predict or even think what it'll be because they're so unpredictable.
The moment you think they've turned a corner or put something behind them, you have a game like Georgia.
I'll say I'm hopeful we have a turnaround like we had Vandie to Arkansas.
is like short rest.
They got right on a plane and went to Fayetteville.
And I mean, those were night and day different games, just days apart.
So I'm hopeful they can do that.
But as far as expecting it, God, with this team, who knows what will happen.
But they've shown that they can put a dud behind him and quickly fix it, even on the road in the SEC.
And this is a team that's lost five in a row.
They've got Kishon Hall, who's awesome.
He just had 29 in a loss.
He's the guy you got to stop.
Right.
He is there.
He's kind of the straw that stirs the drink.
We're used to playing Bruce Pearl, a guy who's always been, was a great tactician.
This is Stephen.
Stephen Pearl.
Right?
You know, my theory, Shannon, the sons of really talented people are rarely as talented.
Yep.
Look at Petino.
Look at all of them.
I mean, we've talked about this before.
In all walks of life, it is very rare to have a father that's very successful.
And then the son be as good, usually much worse.
Doesn't mean Stephen, like Richard Petino's okay, but he's not Rick.
I don't think Stephen is Bruce, but will he beat us tomorrow?
They're like Auburn's as unpredictable as Kentucky as they went into Florida and won at Florida.
I think they're even more unpredictable.
They have a wild variance of scores.
Yes.
You know, I mean, they had some games in non-conversory that lost back 45 and then they won by 20 against somebody good.
Arkansas, they killed Arkansas.
Beat Arkansas and won at Florida and then they lost five in a row here.
But we beat Arkansas and Tennessee twice.
This is another team like Georgia, though, that's very desperate for a win.
They're fighting for their tournament life.
They have to win to go to the tournament.
I mean, because they already – don't they already have 10 losses?
I mean, this will be our 10 loss if we lost.
Yeah, yeah.
They might even have 11.
I think they have 11, actually.
Like, they're running out of time.
They got a win.
We need to win, they got a win.
So is that scary you?
Georgia had to have a win.
They got it.
Now Auburn's got to have a win.
They're a little hungry.
But I wasn't expecting.
to win this game. I actually kind of
had this as a loss.
But once we lose to Georgia, now we kind of
need to win it again. Auburn is 14
and 12. Wow.
Yeah, I mean, I don't, but they have really good
wins. So like they have a little, but I don't know
that they have a ton. I don't know who they finish the season
with. Do you have Auburn and the rest of their schedule?
We got it. Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU.
All right, so they have easy teams coming up. And then Alabama.
So if they, they don't, maybe they don't have to win this one if they can
win that Oklahoma LSU O'Mist stretch.
But still a pretty important game, and it's at home.
I'm sure they'll have a big crowd.
Yeah, Stephen Pearl pretty much said as much.
Like, they're backs against the wall.
They have to win this one.
Kentucky needs to win this one.
I don't think it's the end of the world if they don't.
But I worry about it kind of falling apart a little bit.
All that goodwill and excitement you built up winning eight of nine.
If you have that bad loss to Georgia, this would be three in a row, another game that you could win.
I worry about it, start to unravel as the schedule.
gets harder and the weeks get shorter here
as we get close to March. Now, I mean, I've said to
you that, like, I don't think
Kentucky is starting to go to the tournament. And some
people have pushed back on me on that.
I think they win one
more. They're probably good.
You know, they just did that thing,
which I've done before, the little mock
selection thing in Indianapolis.
They stopped it for like
eight years. They just restarted.
And they did it yesterday. And Kentucky ended up
a six seat in it.
That's a little higher, and I thought they would be.
Me too.
but you read their schedule.
Ours is a little different.
Yeah.
You know, ours is at A&M, Vandy, Florida, this.
It's a different game.
Ours is a different schedule.
Well, Ken Palm predicts them to go four and one and us to go one and four the rest of the year.
Yeah.
So there you go.
So for one and four makes, what, 18 and 13?
And I think 18 and 13 probably get you in.
But like...
Not guaranteed.
I think you got to make sure you win one in Nashville, right?
And you'd have that record having lost six of seven in the year.
I think they would take that into account.
They're not supposed to, but you've got to think they do.
If you've got to head-to-head two teams.
You've got to think they at least look at it.
So I do think, though, you win this when you beat South Carolina Tuesday, you're probably five.
Back on track.
Yeah.
So big game.
830, though, nighttime.
Tom Hart, though.
Tom Hart.
Two games in a row.
Tom Hart and Jimmy Dyes.
Although it didn't work Tuesday.
You know, the Auburn can be a tough.
place to play when the big teams roll into town.
They are going crazy in there when Kentucky seems to struggle down there at times.
When they're really rocking, that's as good if not the best atmosphere.
It is.
When it's really going.
And don't you think it'll be that way?
Yeah, but remember, one of the things we did well at Tennessee and at Arkansas was keep
the crowd out of it.
Even at Florida, after the beginning of the game, we kind of did a good job.
The crowd never really went nuts, like got nuts, nuts.
And I think that's maybe the nicest arena in the,
SEC. Oh, it definitely is. But there are times, you know, when Bruce had them rolling, it would be
on fire, but they can they can lose interest. And if you can go in there and throw the first
punch and take a lead, maybe that crowd kind of starts doubting and looks at a six loss in front
of them in a row. Yeah. Well, we'll see. They haven't been scared about playing on the road.
No. We match up okay with them. I mean, I think people are used to having Auburn having these
guys that are impossible for us to stop. That's really not what this team is like. Kishon Hall
is really good.
That would be a good Diabate matchup.
That's Diabate.
This is another big Diabate game.
You know, we've done pretty well.
Please don't put Garrison on him.
Although I'm watching Garrison,
remember the belt to ask last year?
Play that clip for Garrison the whole way to get him fired up.
Yeah.
Tom Hart, by the way, was on the interrupted podcast yesterday.
It's a good weekend listening for you.
It will be good.
I did an hour interview with him.
He talked a lot about Kentucky and think people really like it.
Take a break.
Be right back.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
You do this most Fridays and it still makes me happy.
I've told that many times, Shannon, I used to get in my car at 5 o'clock.
There was a country station in Lexington that would play a version of this song
that had all these like, whee-h!
All these sound effects.
Yeah, I could play that one.
Play it. I loved it.
And you can only hear it at 5.
You know, this is before you could just hear any song.
And my friend Duncan Cavendall and I would always try to find something to go drive to at 5 o'clock because we liked it so much.
You know, they play like and all this stuff on Friday.
And I was like, it's Friday now.
Yabababadoo.
Yeah, yeah, doba do.
If you find that, that'll make me happy.
I probably haven't heard that in 20 years.
All right, we'll do it next.
Now I just want to get to the next second.
And we'll go to the phone.
859, 280, 2807.
Text machine.
You're a little slow on the text machine.
machine today. Not as many as usual. 772, 775-254.1 person writes, Matt, give me the layman's
stupid terms of what the Supreme Court did. So Trump put all these tariffs on other countries,
which actually we pay for, but he put them on goods. But then he did it under what's called
the Emergency Powers Act, which gives the president, like in times of an emergency, some ability to go
around the regular Constitution, right?
Right.
So like if we're under attack,
president has powers under emergency powers to do stuff that otherwise he would need Congress to let him do.
He was saying these tariffs are an emergency.
I have to do it right now.
And the Supreme Court was like, no, it's not an emergency.
If you want to do tariffs, you have to do it the way the Constitution says, which means Congress has to pass it.
It's not an emergency.
So you can't do it.
Essentially, that's the very basic.
So it doesn't mean he's,
can't do tariffs, he just has to get Congress
to agree to him. And he didn't
do that. He just did it on his own.
And they're gone effective immediately?
Yes. But then the issue is they've collected all this money.
Like $150 billion
in tariff money.
Well, they didn't say in the opinion.
But somebody who's had the money taken from them is going to sue
want it back. And want it back. And that's where
it could really like, if they've taken in all this money
and then they have to pay it all back
but the court doesn't address
whether they have to pay it back.
Would they win?
Try to get their money back?
I mean, I would think the answer is yes.
I don't know how you can say
that he illegally took it and you don't have to give it back.
So we'll see.
That'll probably come up in the future.
Hopefully it's all just sitting in a nice little tax account.
I mean, we can remember.
They've probably already spent it
at which point, you know.
Just send it all back to everyone.
So, I mean, it's a big deal.
It was the, if you listen,
to the arguments, though, this was what was going to happen.
Two of the three justices
Trump appointed voted against him.
Voted against him. Yeah.
And they're right, because
the Constitution's pretty clear. So what was the
final? Six-three.
Six-three. Yeah. You know, there's nine justices.
That's right. Right.
Constitution.
Jason Lathrim? Great math.
Justices. If Jason Lathrim
was a justice. Wow.
Let's go to Will. Go ahead, Will.
Will. All right. No.
Will, let's go to Taylor.
Yeah, how are you doing, Matt?
Good, what's up?
Hey, I'm curious about to see NIL.
If the Quaintiffs doesn't play,
does he get paid in a lot of money?
Almost certainly, yes, unless they wrote the contract to say
he had to play a certain number of games,
which I have to think did not happen
because I don't think Quaintance would assign that.
So generally speaking, yeah,
he would be paid regardless.
Yeah, I was just curious if you're sitting on the bench making money.
I would guess.
No problem.
I appreciate the call.
I've not seen the contract, but I would assume, Drew, that he would not have signed a contract
that was contingent on him playing if he was hurt or whatever.
I'd be surprised without were in there.
Guy coming off ACL, if Kentucky had put that in the contract,
I think he would have found a school that wouldn't have had that.
in the contract. I am not, I don't know what you think. I am not upset that they rolled the dice on
that. It was gravy. I don't think they were ever thinking that it was certain he was going to be
a piece of this team. Remember, they recruited four other big guys. Right. So I don't mind them
rolling the dice and seeing if it could work. Do you? No, and I don't want to be mean.
I'm almost more worried that the starting center of the plan was Brandon Garrison in the beginning
in Quaitance was just like extra.
You know, originally the starting five had Brandon Garrison and Trent Noah were in the plan.
I think that was the plan.
Yeah.
No, it definitely was the plan.
At least until Quaintons could get back and you could see what he had and then maybe Marino
surprised you did.
The bigger issue is not that Quintons didn't play.
It's that we didn't get improvement from Garrison.
and everybody thought year or two under pope
he would take a big jump up like he said
a lot of his year or two people do
yeah so I don't
I think that was a much much bigger deal
there's the injuries you can't control
but there's also the plan he had before the injuries
the way those guys look now looks like that
wasn't a great plan from the beginning either
no I have a theory about Quentin's
uh oh
this is just my opinion
uh oh but I think he's re-injured himself
in some capacity why else would they just completely
shut him down the knee continues
to swell and they want to protect his NBA stock.
So you think it's not just swell and you think he might have gotten hurt?
I think he may have re-injured something and that's why this is played out the way it has.
He set the last game in the DJ stand, Shannon.
Yeah, but even on the bench.
He was in the DJ.
I took a picture of that.
It was all three of them, though.
It wasn't like he picked that spot.
But why did UK put them in the crowd?
They were like three rows off the court nowhere near their team.
Oh, UK put them there.
Well, I guess.
I mean, they didn't just go pick that seat.
It was him, Ken Williams and Lowe together, like nowhere near the team.
It's like that point.
So it wasn't just claims.
They were all over there.
All three were there.
But I took a picture and even asked the guys next to me.
I was like, why do they sit them way over there?
They're like not even part of any of it.
I just like in the crowd with the students.
His knee has been swelling for so many weeks.
It's too big to physically sit on the bench.
So they have to move them over to a different section.
So I was, you know.
Austin.
Go ahead.
Austin.
Yeah.
They shouldn't.
They should put them up.
Because it's the natural instinct is people blame.
And they're on their phones, and I'm blaming them.
I mean, they're not, you want to at least be close enough.
Maybe they can say something to a team.
They were behind, like, the guy controlling the, not just the DJ, but, you know,
the Rupp Arena headset.
It looked like media around them.
They just had them in a crowd of people.
Austin.
Go ahead, Austin.
What's up, guys?
First time, long time.
Who are?
What's up?
So, as much as I hate to say, I don't want to believe it myself, but do we think that
Quaintance even wants to come back this season?
Well, I mean, there's no way for me to know the answer to that.
I genuinely believe you shouldn't disparage people's character unless you have evidence to do it.
And I don't have any evidence that Jaden Quaintance is anything but a good kid.
I've had two conversations with him.
They were both very pleasant.
He seemed like an awesome guy.
So I'm not, I think I understand why people would ask that question,
but I don't know any evidence to think he's like just not wanting to play.
I can understand why people think that, but like I don't,
I'm not going to say that unless I know it and I don't know it.
You see, you know what I mean, Austin?
Yeah, yeah.
And then is it even possible for, say, if his knee is injured so bad,
is there a possibility of him coming back next year?
I mean, there he is, but he won't.
I mean, and he shouldn't.
I appreciate the call.
I mean, we saw what happened when he came this year.
He shouldn't.
Even though he's not playing, he still projected a lottery pick, right?
He'll probably get picked 8 through 13th, and he should go.
Yeah.
That's what he ought to do.
He might be the highest non-freshman picked.
Probably will be.
Yeah, most projection he is.
Yeah.
He'll probably be the highest non-freshman pick.
So he should go.
I don't know.
There's no reasonable.
argument why he wouldn't go.
I guess though do we have to undergo some
physical stuff beforehand?
I mean, it doesn't matter. He'll be getting paid for it.
True.
You know. And if you're Kentucky on the other end, you can't rely on him
another year. You can't.
You know, I don't know that they were relying on him this year,
but you can't do it again.
To defend him on wanting to play, I don't know what he's
thinking now, but I'm pretty confident that around that
window of the St. John's game, he and his dad
were both pushing to hurry up and get out there, and the staff
was holding him back. He and his dad wanted to play.
two or three weeks before they did.
I can at least say in December he was really wanting to get out there.
That might have changed.
I don't know what it's between his ears now, but at the time, he wasn't running from it.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night bases on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball, like,
After you go through a training camp with that, I said,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, guys?
This is Clever Taylor the 4th.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show,
I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave.
at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue of 42.
Hey,
my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.
Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHard Radio app,
Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
It's so dumb.
This is so dumb, Shannon.
Yeah, but you love it.
Why did I like this so much?
Got you ready for the weekend.
It was just so stupid, but it would make me think.
Okay, no more class.
You know, this makes it sound old.
But, you used to not just be able to hear any song you wanted.
You used to have to call up the radio and, you know, hopefully DJ played your song for you.
I like this song and I didn't have a George Jones CD.
so like if I knew at Friday at 5 o'clock I could hear this song
that you could get your cassette out and tape it oh I did that
when I was growing up top 9 at 9 in the Knoxville radio station
that's how I had I probably in Middlesbrough I have 30 cassette records of top
nine at 9 and I would record just to get the song oh here we go now I can have boys
to men into the road without having to go to Radio Shack yep and by the
single right before Napster.
Oh yeah. And then when Napster came, it was like the world had changed.
Oh, yeah. You mean you can get every song? You can steal any song you want. Like any song you
want at any time. How's the, and then Metallica shut it down and I was like, I hate Metallica.
I can understand why they didn't want it though. I do too, but I was like, Metallica,
aren't you supposed to be like, F the man? Like, what do you do it? Some people still haven't
forgiven Metallica for that. They're effing with their paycheck. Yeah. They didn't like it.
Exactly right. I hated you'd see the end of your favorite music video or no, you just miss it on a countdown.
It could be days before you could see it again. It's like, oh, I just missed it. You mean top,
I'm going to have to listen to Top 9 at 9 again tomorrow? I love the top 9 at 9. You saved all your
cassette tapes? You still have them? I mean, at some point my mom may have thrown them out, but I had
them for a long time. And then, you know, you switched to CDs. And then it was just over.
Then you were kind of on your own after that. It'd be fun if you pull.
one out from the 1980s
to see what it was that I like.
I'm sure shy if I ever fall in love is on there.
Because you're a lover.
If you wanted to see a dude
whose mind was blown
through yesterday, you should have seen Ryan at the bar
during trivia when they were showing the skiing uphill.
Oh, we finally got to see it in person.
It was live the minute we all walked in for trivia
last night. It was live on the big screen.
It was on there, yes. I couldn't
They're going up a mountain and it's like a maze.
They're going through like some kind of little maze to get up there.
But I was like, Shannon, look, they're skiing uphill.
I've never seen it.
Remember where I explained to you that you could ski uphill?
It's a dumbest thing.
Then they take their skis off.
Why is it dumb?
Because they go, they walk, they ski up a mountain, take their skis off, go up a flight of stairs,
put their skis back on, go up the mountain some more.
Yeah, can we get a chair lift to take us up the mountain to see a lot easier.
That's the sport, though.
The sport is who could ski uphill the fastest.
I mean, I could say why are these five people trying to put that
ball in that thing. That's dumb. I mean, it's
true. It's exactly right. Every sport is stupid if you
look at it like that. Like the only sport
that really makes sense is like running.
Everything else or even running. Like,
why don't you just get in a car? Like, I mean, you
could do that for, you could do that for any sport.
But who's the person that said, let's make them ski up
a hill, go up a bunch of stairs, and ski up
swimming floor. I said this to you yesterday.
They ski up a hill because in
real life, people have
to ski up hills.
To get from one place to another, it's
easier to ski than to put your feet in the snow.
and they sink. The ski glides on the snow. So if you're walking through snow, think about how hard it is to walk through snow.
If you knew how to ski, it would be easier to ski than it would be to walk. So why they put the flight of stairs right in the middle of it?
Well, that's just to make it a game. The stairs are a weird addition. I will grant you that.
They make them go around that little maze when they're going up the hill. Well, why does the dog show make them jump over the wall?
It's just part of the event. It's just part of sports. Like sports are to challenge you to do things.
I had never seen that until yesterday until last night. Skining is at least something.
that has a practical use in life.
Like, he's exactly right.
Basketball has no practical use in life.
We just created it out of nothing.
But there are people in parts of the world that have to ski to get from point A to point B.
Well, certainly used to.
I don't know about now.
But certainly, without question, there was a time that if you lived in those places and you needed to go somewhere, skiing was much easier than walking through snow because you would glide on the top of the snow.
I couldn't quit watching it.
I'm like, you've got to be kidding me.
He was.
That's why his team didn't do good.
He was just focused on the...
You had a Winter Olympic question last night.
Yeah, the eight original sports.
That was a good question.
And what's interesting about the eight original sports is, for the most part, it was all things those people had to do in life.
Sometimes they actually had to ski jump.
Not for distance, but like to go from one ledge to another.
So they'd have to take off and jump and then land.
Jump and go to a Walgreens?
I don't know if it was a Walgreens, but they had to do something.
Lee.
Walgreens.
Lee, go ahead, Lee.
Yes, hi.
Okay, I am in Auburn, and I come down every time the UK plays here.
I'm from Kentucky, True Blue.
But I have family here, and my nephew and I use his season tickets,
and I have the best time.
That is the best place to watch a ballgame.
It really is.
It is great, yeah.
It's great.
And everybody is so nice.
I don't think I've ever bought a Coke myself or popcorn,
because if they see me with my blue on, they'll say,
oh, I'll get that for you.
They've just always been super nice.
Wow.
Of course, I'm a little lady, so I guess I have to do with it.
Yeah, it is.
And as a retired teacher, one thing I admire, when they play the national anthem,
you can hear a pin dropping there.
Every kid turns around and faces the flag.
And, I mean, it is just very respectful.
And I've always thought that was just amazing.
So, but anyway, I'm in Auburn.
Yesterday, it was in the 80s.
Today, it's going to be 75.
It's nice to be out of the snow and the zero.
So I just want to say, I enjoy.
You better yell loud.
And when we win, I hope to hear a go big blue.
chant, all right?
Absolutely.
And everybody around me knows me now because I come every year, and they're all super good, too.
So they even clap sometimes for a good UK play.
So I just have the best time, and I enjoy yourself.
You must be very sweet then.
Well, Lee, thank you very much.
I appreciate it.
Let's go to who is that?
Aaron, Aaron, go ahead, Aaron.
Yeah, these NIL deals, do you know if there are performance bonuses built into these
or if they can do that?
I mean, they can.
I have not heard, again, because there's no collective bargaining agreement in college sports,
I think these contracts can say whatever they want, okay?
Would performance bonuses be a way to motivate a little better, do you think?
I'm going to say this.
I feel like I've said it a lot, but I'm going to say it again.
If you're having to put performances bonuses in to motivate your guys, then you're screwing up to begin with.
These other schools are motivated.
These other schools are motivating their guys.
These other schools are motivating their guys fine.
No, I've not heard of any.
I'm not saying there aren't any,
but I haven't heard of one yet by any school.
Our problem is not money.
Our problem is our guys are either not good enough
or playing with energy.
These other schools are doing fine, right?
Arizona has one loss.
The leash has to be short.
Why?
Arizona's doing it?
If Arizona can pull it off, why can't win?
I'm saying the leash, I'm saying the leash for this kind of performance to be acceptable has to be short.
Okay, well, that's a different point.
But I appreciate the call.
But these other schools, you know, there's just this tendency in the NIL area to go,
it's cause the money.
These other schools are handling it.
And by the way, there have always been.
dudes who didn't care.
Yeah.
There have always been
dudes that didn't try hard.
There have always been dudes that were lazy.
Like, that's always happened.
So it's easy just to go well,
maybe if we, you know,
look at the NBA All-Star game over the years.
They kept trying to motivate those guys with money,
money, money, money.
They still couldn't get them to play.
And then in this last game,
for whatever reason, they just played.
They got into it.
Maybe it was because of USA versus World.
I don't know.
But they were into it this year.
guys are either going to be into it or not.
I think our guys for the most part have been motivated.
But they do take plays off.
But there have been kids for years taking place off.
That's college kids.
There are high school kids making no money that take plays off.
And there's been things you can fight over in the locker room since it's a meet
time from a parking spot to a girlfriend to whatever.
Exactly right.
Like the problems we see have always existed.
They're just in a different way now.
We'll take a break.
Hour number two.
I got something funny from Louisville, but we'll be right back.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman

And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments.
If we didn't talk ever again, I was part of.
You just understood.
That's how personal it got.

he's like,
you know, I love you, dog.
You know, it's all love.
This was just playoffs.
This was just basketball.
