What?
Time out.

Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
I'm Matt Jones and my voice...
Wow.
...is hanging on.
Yeah.
Hey, I'm being a trooper.
Yes, you are.
Trying to go.
I'm not even really that sick, but I lost my voice.
It's game day. You got to get going.
And I learned my lesson a few years ago.
Don't drink six gallons of water, Shannon, to try to make it happen.
Yeah.
And also don't give all your topics to rhyme because he'll blow through them in the first five minutes of the show.
That's exactly right.
The Clark's puppet shop phone line is 859-2802287.
A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-745254.
And this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office.
You call T.J. I'll make them pay.
I'll do as much of this show as I can.
And then if I can't, I can hand it to you guys and you'll be good.
Right?
You don't feel bad.
It just sounds bad.
I don't really feel bad, but I lost my voice.
I couldn't even talk last night since it's actually an improvement.
Yeah.
I don't know what it was.
Well, it's that time of year, my mom always to say, the croup and the crud,
kind of gets in your chest and your lungs and your sinuses and just kind of stays there.
Yeah.
I don't know if that's it.
I just don't have a voice.
So this happens to me about once a year.
When you talk as much as I do, Drew, at some point, your voice says, all right, I need a break.
So I'm taking a break this evening, but I thought I would try to get through this show.
Yeah, such an exciting time playing South Carolina.
They're one of the teams in the conference.
Can't miss a show like this.
Four games left.
This is our second to last Tuesday of the season.
An important game.
Very important.
Very important.
I mean.
Could lose four in a row.
We haven't done that in like a billion.
years.
And like, to make the tournament a big game.
I mean, I think if they win this game, they're in the tournament.
But if they don't, it's on the table that they're not going to make it.
Yeah.
I mean, it's, it's, they might still make it even if they lose.
But I think if you were to, let's say, go into the tournament with seven straight losses.
You think the NCAA is going to be.
Not going to look favorable.
You think they're going to want to reward that?
No, not at all.
They say they don't consider the recency bias there, but they would.
And we just wouldn't have, not that we're just loaded with excitement and optimism as it is.
I mean, how could we even get up off the mat if we lost seven in a row going into March Mains?
Are you worried about this game?
I'm worried about every game, to be honest.
Me too.
That's how I am too.
That's what stinks.
This used to be like you wake up and you're like, all right, let's go kick their teeth in and have a fun night.
Now, even as a seven-point favorite, you're kind of like, uh-oh.
This could go wrong.
Yeah.
Like you got your guard up at all times, which is new for Kentucky fans.
Yeah, I mean, it's an interesting question.
Have you had any game this year in the SEC that you've come into 100% confident we were going to win?
In the SEC, probably the answer is no.
I thought this might be the game until South Carolina put 97 on Mississippi State on Saturday.
Probably the only one I was like that for was Mississippi State at home.
and then they got up a dozen
in the first half.
That was supposed to be the easiest game.
I mean, I remember Ole Miss specifically.
You were nervous about that game.
I was very nervous about that game.
And, you know, he played his close for some of it.
I felt good about Auburn.
It's the first time I bet the UK money line in a while.
That didn't work out for me as we now.
This one tonight, I mean, they should win,
but it's just in the back of your mind
how bad it would look if they don't.
Yeah.
Well, the game is at 7 o'clock.
Pre-game show will be at 4.30.
Kentucky is a five and a half point favorite.
Kind of a small number.
Which jumped.
What is it now?
Seven and a half.
Okay.
Yeah.
That feels more right to me.
So maybe some people got the early Kentucky pull.
I mean, South Carolina, who have they beaten in conference?
They beat Mississippi State.
Only got three wins.
I think Oklahoma.
Also bad.
In LSU, they beat the three bad team.
So they haven't beaten anybody good, which is all the more reason we have.
to win. I mean, if you were to say who are the four worst teams in the conference, those would
be the four, and that's who they've beaten. You know, we went down to LSU, thought that was
going to be a road win, took a last second shot from Malachi to get that one. I just think this
one also kind of smells of a trap game. It's not. There's no trap. We're down, like, trap is when
you win three or four. There's not a trap. There's no reverse trap. It's not a trap when you are
on a three-game losing streak. It is a you've got to win.
And any team in the conference that has a pulse has destroyed South Carolina.
When they lose, they lose big.
Florida almost beat them by 50.
I know Kentucky's not Florida, but I mean, South Carolina has some horrible loss.
There's a lot of like 10 to 15 points in the SEC games they couldn't win.
So they're fortunate to have three wins against the very bottom of the standings,
but any team that's, you know, decent has put it on them pretty good.
859-28027.
Text machine is 772-7525254.
All right.
So, cats got a win.
I'm nervous about it, but I still feel relatively optimistic.
Yesterday, during this show, we did a poll where I said pro or con Mark Popes post game about the refs.
And during the show, I think I said it was like 60, 40 pro.
That probably moved a little bit.
And I would say it was like 50, 50 in the end.
Was it?
maybe 55-45-45 pro in the end, which was interesting to me because most of the reaction online
was con, but I think there were a lot of people who liked it.
Now going forward, you know, he made some strong comments about the officials, etc.
Do you think it has any resonating impact?
That's clearly the message he had behind the scenes because we heard the players mentioned it
posts on Instagram. I wish
he would also
focus on a lot of their flaws in the game, but
maybe that attitude of we got hosed on
the road, and now you're going right back on the road.
They've got a little anger and
really felt they got cheated and we'll use that as
motivation tonight. Overall, though... But what about with the
officials? I don't
think they do that. You don't
think they do that? I think it'll impact with the...
I think the team will use it as fuel.
But overall, I still think that's just putting a
band-aid on Kentucky's bigger
issues here. If it's talking about
officials. Officials don't try to
cheat the other team. They make bad
calls. You don't think there's any
way in which certain officials
have biases
towards certain
teams, individuals,
coaches, players. You don't think that's possible. I think
there's definitely some bias, but he's not
got that guy that's not going to make that call
just to try to get Kentucky to win. He just made a bad call.
You mean try to get Auburn to win?
Yeah. I just thought he had a
think he made a bad call in that in that situation.
Yeah. I think that exists
places. I don't think that will linger from
Auburn to this. I mean, if anything in the
reps are like, this is Kentucky out South Carolina
playing for like Wednesday conversations
here. Sitting carrying a lot of
weight for the conference overall. So I don't
know how much bad blood will be on their side.
Well, that led to a conversation
when we talked about that yesterday. You remember the
one guy wrote, I think his name
was Jonathan, and said that
it was KSR's fault
that there were bad.
calls, which has continued the theme of about three years that there are people who blame KSR for stuff.
But then we actually got Shannon yesterday some blame for something non-basketball related.
Oh, really?
Which was our conversation about gout and shingles.
That's our fault that people have gout and shingles?
No, not our fault that they have them.
I don't have gout.
But how we discussed it.
Oh.
So I think it's worth noting because some people wrote me actually really nice criticisms.
Not like you stink and liberal, you and your calming friends should move to Massachusetts.
Not that kind of stuff.
But like, Matt, I love you, but think about this.
And their general theme was, when you all talk about stuff, you should know what you're talking about.
And so these people were like, you were asking if shingles was content.
You should know before you talk about it.
Well, I just want to explain for a second the premise of this show.
All right.
I don't know about you all, but I kind of hate radio TV shows where the host acts like they know everything.
I get accused of that sometimes, but I don't really think that's fair because I don't even know how to like change my oil.
Or change in airfield.
Or hang a picture.
Or hang a picture.
Like, literally, I don't know any of that.
And I acknowledge that.
But one of the things I've learned is that when you have a show, when you don't know something, this audience collectively knows a lot.
Yes.
Right.
Almost anything we talk about, there are going to be experts out there.
So if I throw out a topic and we don't know, right?
and we talk about what we don't know.
inevitably someone writes in and explains what it is.
Has the answer.
Right.
Happens all the time.
And I think that's good.
Yes.
I think that's good radio.
So on the shingles and gout conversation,
I said what I think is objectively true.
Those are words that sound.
Eiki. Very icky.
But there are diseases that people may have, and I genuinely did not know what they are.
Right.
We had an open forum about open discussion.
So we got a bunch of conversations.
One of the things I learned, Drew, I didn't realize how many people I knew have had shingles.
Okay.
People you knew.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
And people you are.
I'm not going to.
I saw one in three people will eventually deal with it according to the internet.
One in three people will have shingles.
Yep.
That means one of us is.
full-blown case.
One of us is going to have Shilowitz.
No, if you throw the five of us in Billy and two of us are going to have it.
Not in.
Who's most likely to happen?
Ryan, without question.
I'm probably the leading candidate.
I will say he's older though and has already passed, you know, he's got a few years
where he hadn't had it yet, past 50 when it really starts ramping up.
Can drink it a lot of calories?
Oh, it doesn't start.
It does, but you're more likely as you get older.
And Ryan's older, he's already, you know, he's beating it a few years already.
If you drink Frappuccino every morning, does that give you like more chance to get gout?
I got to see Ryan's breakfast this morning, Shannon, thousand calories at least.
I feel like there's some gout mixed in there somewhere.
Oh, no.
You should see.
He got a chocolate croissant for breakfast.
Yes, delicious.
For Ryan.
Chocolate croissant.
What about that is breakfast?
Breakfast of champions right there.
Got you started on the right day.
And that's pure sugar you're drinking.
Just chai and soy milk.
You didn't put your sugar in it.
No.
Is that chai sugar-free?
Probably not.
But I don't think it has as many calories as you think it is.
According to Google, sugar causes gout flare-ups.
That's why I don't have it.
You're going to get it.
So we would say Ryan is most likely.
Probably so.
Leading candidate.
He probably has it right now.
It doesn't even know it.
See, that's a venty.
The regular size has 42 grams of sugar, so a little more than.
The regular is 42.
60 to 70?
60 to 70 grams of sugar.
And then your chocolate croissant.
Probably sugar-free.
It is a Tuesday.
I don't know if the calendar matters,
but that's one of the days you try to really...
Most people don't see Tuesday as the day they really pack sugar on.
Weekends get a little out of control.
In the early week, you try to get back on track before you losing it.
Anyway, my point was in having that conversation,
I think the audience went and learned more about it.
I did. I did too. I was shocked how many people wrote me and said they had had shingles.
And now I know it's more common. So my point about the shingles and the gout is just to say there were people like riding me, many of which were nice saying, you all need to not discuss things you don't know. If we do that, Shannon, there's no show.
We'll just sit in silence and look at each other for two hours every day. You'll just be listening. You'll just be listening.
to me recite the law.
Yeah.
Nobody wants that.
That's one thing I love about this show.
We're just like four guys sitting around a table just discussing whatever comes up that day.
We were just discussing it.
And also just so I'm just trying to let you in on my, when I put something on the sheet,
I know that some of the time it's going to make Ryan look stupid.
And some of the time it might make Shannon angry.
Or it might make me look stupid because I can't do basic things.
That's the entertainment.
Yeah.
Right.
That's why we're doing it.
So there's no reason to get upset about it.
Like, that's why we're doing it.
And now we know that Tyrese Halliburton has shingles.
Yeah.
We know I didn't realize how many people had gout.
And we also know that you can look up and learn more about it and try to keep it from it.
One in three people having shingles.
It's a lot. According to the internet, which doesn't tell lies.
I always tell people, because we do zero show prep.
I mean, a lot of times it's like...
You do Z. I do show prep.
No, but I mean, like, we don't sit down as a group and plan the show.
No, we each do our individual, stay on topics.
I mean, we don't sit down and talk about the show.
I always say sometimes it's like a game show when you take something that's not an obvious topic
and I don't even know, you throw out something and we're live on the air.
We got to react.
That's a goal.
So anyway, so if I, if we upset you about one of those, I, I probably, I promise
Unless it's not intentional. It's just how
we kind of do this show. Imagine getting upset over gout.
Oh. There's not a topic we can
discuss that someone
is not mad at me about. You're liberal?
Stinking liberal. Thank you. We'll take a break. We'll be right back. KS.I.
Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.

Life throws hurdles big and small.
The question is, how do you conquer them?
On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions.
To talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that can't.
keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't
belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ledecki.
The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile,
that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
At our level at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Like, I can do anything.
I can do anything.
Because resilience isn't just about winning.
It's about showing up, even when it's hard.

That's the only way.
people R.H. Shannon, no.
I never even heard a gout until this song.
Yes, but this is
an excellent song.
When's the last time
a comedy album?
Everyone R.H.
had this album, right?
Did you have it, Chairman?
I didn't have it, but I was well aware of it,
but I didn't have it. Well,
I felt like everyone but Shannon had it.
Do they still do those?
Do they still put out comedy albums?
or is it all like Netflix specials now?
Yeah, I feel like it's all Netflix stuff.
Probably streaming, it's a little bit different, you know?
It's not the same person's having a physical copy of a CD.
Yeah, yeah, I guess that doesn't happen as much anyway.
One person writes, Matt, it's nice of you to do a tribute show today to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
With your boys.
That's not very nice.
Did you see his workout video with Kid Rock?
Most ridiculous video.
In administration that every day does something weird.
The workout video of Kid Rock in RFK is top three.
I didn't know you're supposed to wear blue jeans when you work out.
I've been doing it wrong all these years.
How about he jumped into a cold plunge in blue jeans?
Who wore blue jeans?
Robert Kennedy.
Have you not seen this?
Have you not seen this video?
No. They're like in a cave.
You know, doing a workout?
They're drinking milk together.
Robert Kennedy is clearly like he's buff.
Oh, yeah.
But Kid Rock's not.
If I'm Kid Rock, I leave my shirt on with Robert Kennedy.
So they both had their shirts off.
So Robert Kennedy has his shirt off in jeans.
And then he does a cold plunge in the jeans.
At one point they're in the sauna.
They bring the exercise bike in the sauna.
One of them's planking.
One of them's on the bike.
I mean, it was very...
Was that heated rivalry, the TV show?
It was very like homoerotic in the way that they did it.
It was very strange, didn't you think?
I actually thought it was fake for the longest time because I couldn't believe that they would
put that out there. I'm like looking real closely to see if the AI messes up at any point,
then nope, I just surrender to the fact that it was real.
Working out in jeans, when I go to a gym, which granted, does it happen a lot.
When I see somebody working out in jeans, my thought is that person might murder someone.
If you work out in jeans.
The one of the chug the milk was really bizarre too.
Yeah.
Yeah, they did.
They chugged milk.
Like, if you want to have some whole milk, how bad it, I might have a glass.
It was weird.
They were like chugging it in the pool.
I'm with you, Shannon.
That was one of those like, whoa.
Why did they do this?
I don't know.
Maha.
Maha.
Make America jeans again.
Maja.
Jerry, go ahead, Jerry.
Hey, Matt.
You know, you actually guys are talking about people that not being able to get into Canada.
And one of the things I used to do, I worked for airlines and operations, is I had to go over the Canada list every night with all the crew members that couldn't go to Canada and make sure they'd have somebody in eligible going to Canada.
And that's a real deal.
I mean, you'd be amazed at what they won't let people on Canada for Canada for Canada for.
Somebody told me they will not let you go to Canada if you've had a DUI.
Is that correct?
Yeah, DUI.
That's amazing.
I don't know how many.
There are people listening to us right now who probably at some point in their life had a DUI, which is awful.
But like, people make mistakes.
I don't know if they know they can't ever go to Canada.
But from what I understand, unless you get an exception.
you can't go.
It's called rehabilitation.
And you've got to pay for an Canadian attorney.
It's about $5,000.
And then you pay a fee,
and where from like $280 to $1,200 based on the crime.
But the funniest crime I ever heard of
that somebody could get good can't for was we had this one slide attendant
who was a real rebel back in her college days of Berkeley in the 60s
who got arrested for indecent exposure at a protest.
And they wouldn't let her into Canada for that.
Wow.
Well, thank you, Jerry.
I appreciate it.
I mean, I didn't realize Canada could be like that.
I mean, I got detained at the Canadian board.
Yes, you did.
They're all so well behaved there.
Everybody in Canada.
They never got detained for laughing at a fart.
They didn't blame.
I mean, that's not a joke.
It's true.
Drew was there.
I got yelled at for two and a half hours by a Canadian Mountie.
Mounties fart too.
Apparently not.
Not a joke.
Don't do it at the board.
border. We've talked about that before, but Drew, that was a crazy couple hours.
They're strict, yeah. They do that for a fart. I believe the DUI thing.
Yeah. Imagine it's been many, many years. You're taking your family to see Niagara Falls.
You just have no idea. You get to the border. They're like, oh, 1994 shows you did this.
Honey, why can't we go to Canada, dad? Well, your mom exposed her breast in 1997.
And so you're not going to be going to Canada. Turn around and going home.
That's right. Joey, go ahead, Joy.
Hey man, how y'all doing?
Doing good.
I was just calling in, man.
I was going to say I've had shingles and it's horrible.
It's absolutely miserable.
That's what I've heard.
Anyways, I like Pope, dude, but do you think at the end of this season he's going to have to let some assistance go and hurt some feelings?
I mean, obviously it's not working out great for him and I get the injuries and everything.
You know, somebody asked that on the postgame show, and I appreciate the call about, you know, sometimes when things,
having gone great, people want to change the staff. In football, that's something that always
happens. People want to change the offensive coordinator, defense coordinator.
My problem, Drew, is I don't know what on this staff, what these guys do. I know Cody Figer
is big on game plan. I think Michael McLean is too. But I don't know what they all do. So I don't
have strong feelings about the staff because I'm not really sure what each of their job
responsibilities is.
I'm kind of the same way.
We don't really get any access.
Don't see a practice.
I don't really talk to anyone.
We know something needs to be corrected in the game planning and how they get these
starts.
But as far as they need to make changes, I wouldn't know who'd even point a finger at because
I don't have, I don't know what each of their assignments are.
I mean, the change needs to be a GM.
That's the change.
First change.
And if he does not get a GM, he and Mitch deserve a team.
ton of criticism. I tend to think they will, but I think if they're going to do it, it's got to be
in the next couple weeks. You know, we had heard there was this job posting. It's now not online
anymore. Does that mean they've hired somebody? I don't know. You know, or does that mean they
decided not to hire someone? I don't know. Or promote one of their current guys up. They did at one point
have a job posting online, but I don't know what became of that. So,
Well, even though the portal is not really until April, in two weeks the regular season ends,
and that's when people are really having a lot of conversations.
Maybe it's not official.
I'm in the portal, but people know at the end of the regular season what their intentions are,
at least whether they want to leave or look at somewhere else.
Yeah, I mean, I feel like they have to.
For me, they have to more than anything else to get a different voice in the room.
Because it's clear what they're doing is not working.
Yeah.
In recruiting.
So even if you end up just having a different voice that's outside.
of his circle, I feel like that would be positive.
Very positive.
Yeah.
859-280-20287.
We'll take a break.
Great back.
KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J.
He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
It wasn't just that he was wearing jeans shit.
It was also jeans with a shirt off.
Yeah.
We had to show you his physique.
Well, he's got to, I mean, how old is he like, is he like 70?
Yeah, I mean, he's got.
He's in amazing.
shape to be 70 years old.
Yeah.
Maybe I need to start drinking more milk.
Ugh.
I'd rather be on the sauna.
I'd rather be unhealthy.
I do like saunas though.
You ever spend any time in a sauna right?
I hate it.
Why?
I can't breathe in there.
But you don't feel better at the end like you've sweated out all the toxins.
I've not stayed in long enough to sweat out any toxins.
I can't breathe.
I get out of there.
I don't like it.
Not at all.
With my asthma and stuff, I can't do it.
Can't do it.
Can't do it.
What health, like, what sort of healthy things do you like to do?
Do you have to do yoga?
Did a lot of yoga.
Yeah.
Have you done yoga?
Well, she's tried to get me to do some.
Do you like it?
I can't hardly.
I'm so stiff.
It's hard.
But that's why you do yoga.
I know.
Is it over time it'll get better.
Like when I started doing it a few years ago, I could barely do anything.
And then, like, a year later, the woman was like, look at how much better you are now that you
could see it.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, she had a video of my first day and then show me.
She played it.
It is good about it.
Oh, the first day.
That was when I was like in the worst shape of my life.
And I was like, I looked like a beached whale trying to do it.
But then I got a lot, but I haven't done it recently.
I got to get back to it.
But yeah, so you don't like yoga.
Do you like lifting weight?
Oh, no.
Definitely not.
Running.
No.
Walking.
I walked the dogs in the spring and the summer.
But that's just like to use the bathroom.
That's not exercise.
Yeah, we make a little loop.
You need to get serious about it, though.
I mean, really, if you get older, you need to start a thing something.
Yeah, I mean, the flexibility is, I mean, like, they have studies that say one of the biggest things that determines life expectancy is your flexibility.
Because the more flexible you are, the likely, more likely you are to keep moving and to keep doing things.
And if you become inflexible and it starts to hurt to move, then you will do it less, which will, of course, hurt you.
Yeah.
I was, I guess I probably.
should have known this, but after like a yoga thing one time, the next day I couldn't believe
how sore I was.
But that's the point.
Yeah.
And then you do it the next time and it won't be as bad.
Hopefully.
And you can find like, I mean, it's probably not as big a deal for you, but I find it peaceful.
You like distract like you're not on your phone and there's no outside.
I mean, you can just stare out in the space.
That's one thing you are good at.
You and parent, you do goat yoga or something one time or hot yoga?
No, it was a goat yoga.
It was hot yoga.
Very different.
Goat yoga is goats crawling.
on you. I don't even get that. Drew, to me, that seems like the stupidest thing in the world.
It's very popular. I don't know if we haven't Lexington, but I've seen it. It's big in Nashville. Yeah, Nashville. Did you guys bet Kansas like I told you?
100%. Yes, I did. Thank you very much. I think Shannon and Drew picked Houston. I was on the coogs.
What now it feels like, Shannon, I've been saying for a year and a half, don't bet against Bill self, Kansas, Monday night at home. And it felt like, you know,
yesterday that became a thing.
You heard it everywhere.
Yep.
It had a big graphic.
They popped up during the games a whole time.
Have you ever seen that before?
That was just my internal thought.
I didn't realize it was a whole thing, Shannon.
Well, I should have been betting it.
I would have won a lot of money.
Oh, and it was over quick.
Like Houston got up like 113 and then Kansas just blew them out.
Yeah.
They're up 20.
They're 41 and 0.
41 and 0 now on Big Monday.
On your bills.
They have not lost on Monday night at home since
2001. And they play three or four games a year on Monday night home. They haven't lost Drew
since 2001. I think they're abusing the system here. We've got to stop this. They've figured
out that teams just cannot turn around from a Saturday game, get to Lawrence, and be ready.
They already have the whistle and the crowd. Adding that travel aspect is just too much to
overcome and it needs to be stopped. They shouldn't be allowed to do anymore. If I was Houston,
I'd be really upset about that schedule. Yes. Because they played at Arizona
on Saturday and then had to play at Kansas on Monday.
Before the Arizona game, they were at Iowa State.
That feels unfair, doesn't it?
Yeah, Iowa State, Arizona, Kansas back to back to back.
On the road.
Do teams ever just have, if they're on a road swing,
just have to go straight to Lawrence from wherever they were?
I mean, I don't think so.
But that's not fair to make them play at Arizona and at Kansas,
which even at the beginning of the year they had to know that would be like
their two hardest games.
That Arizona game may have been in Houston.
Okay, but then that's less unfair.
The point still stands, though.
You got to, you know, shut off from a Saturday,
potentially a late-night game.
And the very next morning, you're off to Lawrence to go get cheated by referees.
Oh, cheated.
I made the mistake of betting on Kansas on a Saturday instead of a Monday.
Oh, no.
It's a month.
They only play well on Monday.
By the way, KSR Parlay Saturday,
half point from hitting.
And it was a BS.
It was the Alabama LSU.
Alabama was up nine.
LSU got a meaningless layup at the buzzer.
And it was a seven and a half point spread and they won by seven.
Also remember the same game, UK parley, I cooked up that they didn't use.
Would have won.
Another winner.
Lou.
Kentucky covering the three and a half, Chandler, 10 points and the under.
Wow, that's crazy. Chandler did cut.
It feels like Chandler played awful and he still had 10 points.
Yeah.
Lou, go ahead, Lou.
Yeah, Matt, a long-time listener up in Indiana.
I'm a UK alum.
Shut out.
I followed UK basketball for a long time.
Can you hear me, okay?
Yes.
Okay.
Just a couple comments.
I'm really losing, I'm not alone, I'm sure,
I'm kind of losing interest in the current state of UK basketball.
A couple comments in regards to that.
I was thinking the other day as a lot of,
long-time listener as listener and a fan, I'm not sure which would be a worst ending for
UK basketball this year.
If they don't make the tournament, the NCAA tournament.
If they don't make the NCAA tournament or if they get in the tournament and they lose
the first game.
No, they got to make it.
There's nothing better about missing the tournament.
I mean, like, what good's going to happen from missing the tournament?
I mean, we've only missed the tournament historically, like three times in 50 years.
So, I mean, adding a fourth year to that is not.
I mean, I can see you saying, well, if we lose in the first round, I mean, what did we really get?
What my answer would be we got another NCAA tournament because I have ingrained in my head the years we didn't make the tournament.
And if you think about it, two of the three years we didn't make the tournament,
one was the COVID year, one was the year we were going on probation.
Right.
So you're really, the year, the Nirlins, in one, we had a devastating injury.
Yeah.
Our best plan.
So this would be the first year that we wouldn't have made the tournament with literally
like no excuse.
I mean, I guess we have a couple smaller injuries.
But so I want to make the tournament.
And a preseason top 10 ranking too.
Yeah.
I want to make the tournament.
Right.
Well, yeah, I mean, I do too.
I'm just saying from a feeling standpoint as a fan,
is it going to feel worse, any worse to, like, get in the tournament?
I think, though, the thing is, if we get to the tournament,
and I appreciate the call, sir, thanks for listening.
If we get to the tournament, Drew, I think we can win a game or two.
Like, I don't think it's crazy if we're a 10 seed that we could beat the 7
and give the two a game, right?
No.
That's all we want is something to look forward to.
I mean, I do think this is a team that has the ability to punch up
and beat a team that's better than them.
We also could play the 7-10 game and lose by 15.
They could lose tonight in South Carolina and then come back and beat Vandy or Florida at home.
You're exactly right.
They could lose tonight at South Carolina and then come and win Saturday at home.
Yep, against a Vandy team that smoked them last time.
That could happen.
Will, go ahead, Will.
Hey guys, thank you for taking my call.
I got to give props to Shannon.
He is the man.
I think I had to call him four separate times because I was having phone issues.
So I appreciate you, Shannon.
I was just going to say one thing I did want to comment on.
You guys were talking about a few minutes ago.
I have been denied entry from Canada.
They are very picky on who did.
Yeah.
So I had, I believe at that time, I think all I had was maybe a shoplifting on my record.
And my car was not in the best shape, but they denied me because they said I would break down and they didn't want me trapped in their country.
What do you know, I broke down enough?
No, that's a bad car.
That's a bad car when they say, we're worried you will break down in our country.
That is a bad car, sir.
Yeah, well, I've had one of them.
I actually have one that's been in the shop for about 13 months.
So, you know, that's my luck.
Well, I just want to just
Say something about this game
I think the cats are going to win
But I don't know if we cover
It's going to have to go to a lot of paint
I think we're going to win
Probably close
And I also just want to say one thing
Okay, that's two things
You don't get to keep adding things
All right
You guys too you get me
And it ties everything in to my last call
So I believe
Auburn and South Carolina
Are slowly becoming bigger rivals
In basketball
Auburn is beating us
I appreciate the call.
South Carolina is not a rival in basketball.
It's not.
No.
Name your most wonderful South Carolina basketball memory.
It's actually sad how close they've played us lately, but that doesn't make it a rivalry.
They've won more than they should.
What is our biggest win over South Carolina?
I remember losing some games in South Carolina.
Yeah, that's the thing.
We don't even think about the wins because it's expected.
The only game I can remember that was a good win against South Carolina was on the
road when Cal got kicked out.
Oh, yeah.
At the very beginning of the game.
And Tyler Ullis and Kenny Payne coached.
And we won.
And Tyler Ulyss threw a lob off the glass for Marcus Lee to stuff it.
And after the game, he's like, I would not have done that if Cal had been sitting on the bench.
Yeah, that's the only real South Carolina game I could even remember that we won.
Maybe other people can remember others.

One person writes, Matt,
you're going to watch the State of the Union tonight
to hear your boy.
No, it's during the Kentucky game.
I feel like that's happened a few times in the recent years.
It's made me very happy.
I like it.
I like the counter-programming.
But let's say Kentucky weren't playing.
I mean, there's...
No distraction.
You tune it in?
Well, I have to do some cleaning.
some tidying up.
Yeah.
Gotta get that chair out of your kitchen.
I think they should show it on ESPN and put the game like in a little box on the corner.
One person writes, Matt, what do you think about the women's team, hockey team, not going to the White House?
Well, you know, I've always been consistent on this.
I would go to the White House either way.
But I also understand why the women's team's not by what he said in the locker room where he was like, said to the men's team.
Well, he didn't call the women's team when they won.
And then the men's team, he said, like, well, I guess I have to invite the women to.
So I can see why they'd be like, I don't want to go.
I don't blame the men's team for going.
There's people saying they shouldn't go in solidarity with the women.
They ought to go.
I mean, a lot of these dudes, this is their, like, best moment of their life.
So I'm fine with them going.
I would go if I was on the men's team.
But I understand why the women wouldn't want to after he kind of made that remark.
Yeah, I can see why they're standing up for the rights.
have he treated it that way?
Yeah, I mean, he was just, he was trying to be funny,
but when you didn't call them.
And they won first.
And they won first.
And then you say, like, oh, I guess I got to invite the women's team.
I can see why they'd be like, well, we don't have to go.
I would go if I were them, but I understand why they wouldn't.
Yeah, whoever's in office, I don't see the teams, whether Super Bowl,
NCAA, whatever, I don't see that as any political endorsement or anything.
That's just part of you winning something big in America.
You get the White House trip.
Yeah.
Shannon, I hate to tell you this, but
Fazoles.
No.
No.
No.
Are you sitting down?
The two longest
open Fazoles in Lexington are both closing.
The Richmond Roadway.
Which was the original.
Was that the original?
That was the original.
That's where Greg Punk Gorman was the first ever breadstick boy.
You always throw that in.
Part of history.
It is.
It's hanging up.
they it's closing and then the one on uh nicholasville road in zandale closing i think those
were the first two wow the one on campus has been closed a while the one on broadway has been
closed well luckily i live in louis we still have our fazoles here just because you let the tonians
to support your fazoles like you should close the original one i mean when i think of fazoles i think of
that one on Richmond Road. That was the one. That was the one with the breadsticks and the
happiness and the joy. I tried to help them out. Sampler platter. Hey, I would have endorsed them
years ago. We could have stopped this from happening. We could have brought them on this show.
You think you would have, I think my voice on this show, spreading the joy of Fizzolese to everybody
would have saved their company. By the way, Mario got his first endorsement. Have you heard about this?
No, what did he get? Mario got his first endorsement. As he described it to me, it's a goat farm.
A goat festival.
So Mario is doing ads for a goat festival in Louisville.
The goat man festival.
Is it called goat man festival?
There is a goat man festival.
Oh, the New Lou Bokfest.
So what's that to do with goats?
They have goat races there.
Okay.
They do have goat races?
Yeah, I think so.
So the New Loo Bok Festival.
I don't know what that means.
But Mario's cutting his first ad today.
He's very nervous.
He wore his glasses.
Dressed up.
He's dressed up.
You don't seem very excited.
What's wrong?
Okay.
He's serious about his Bach Fest.
Like this is going to be, this is the start of a whole new life for you.
Look what it's done for Ryan.
That could be you.
Mario's going to be running with the goats.
Mario gets the goat festival.
New Lubach.
There they are running with the goats.
Oh no, you do run with the goats.
Yeah.
That's Mario.
There's a big history there.
The whiskey thieves on nanny goat.
Strutt, his name of the street.
So explain to me what happened, Shannon.
Do people run with goats?
Yeah, I think they have goat races, but the people kind of, I think, encourage the goats
and run alongside them.
Oh, that's great.
Mario, you can run with a goat on nanny goat strut.
If you're going to be the endorser, you've got to go all in.
There's nanny goat strut.
This is a big step.
If you do a good job on this, next thing you know, you'll be doing horse racing.
You're going to be doing dude wipes.
I mean, you're going to be doing all kinds of stuff.
That should be me, dude wipes.
Actually, you should be doing that.
Well, good luck.
I'm excited.
It's your first endorsement.
Very, very exciting.
Let's go to Jacob.
Go ahead, Jacob.
Hi, good morning.
Matt, I hope you feel better soon.
I wasn't expecting to talk about gout today,
but it's an incredibly painful disease.
I've had broken bones that are less painful.
But I've had two quick questions.
How concerned are you that the JMI deal,
which may have contributed to the struggles with high school recruiting,
will that possibly have similar harmful effects on the team's ability
to bring in players to the,
transport portal.
And then secondly, given popes like a parent dissatisfaction with NIL and the current
recruiting environment, you think it might be possible if he might decide to leave to go after an
MBA job where it can just focus solely on coaching and player development.
No to the second one.
I don't think he would get an NBA job, even if he did.
On the first one, yeah, I'm concerned about it.
Let's see what happens.
That's my view.
You know, see what happens.
I think you have to be concerned with the way it's played out.
I mean, the way it's played out, you have to be concerned.
But let's see what happens.
I mean, I think, appreciate the call.
This is the, this transfer portal season to me is the ultimate test of can Mark Pope recruit in this new environment.
Remember, this is the first official, complete rev share.
Yeah, right.
So let's take a step back.
The portal's been open for a few years, and NIL has been a few years.
But before, you could just sort of blank check it and you could get one donor to write a check.
Now, this is the year where getting real NIL deals and having companies on board and all of this, this is the first year that really matters.
This year.
with this high school class and this transfer portal.
We've already struck out on the high school class.
And it has been at best awful.
Yeah, we have zero people.
And at worst, a complete disaster.
All right.
Now here comes the portal.
People who want to defend what's happened so far will go, look, we're focused on the portal.
I don't believe that because they tried to recruit these people,
but nevertheless, now you get the judgment.
Can Kentucky and Mark Pope recruit in the RevShare era?
That's the million dollar question.
They haven't proved it yet.
This is the first test.
And we have failed step one, high school kids.
So now it's transfer portal.
And if we get to June and we miss all our top targets again,
well then the question's been answered.
Yes.
And it's just who deserves the blame,
which we'll have to wait and see.
But yes, April and May, for me,
is huge about the future of Kentucky basketball.
We'll take a break.
