Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:02:49 Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Monday. March the 5th. I am Matt Jones here on a rainy day in Lexington. We are in studio. We're traveling this week. Washington today, Louisville tomorrow, KS Bar Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Special location Thursday. And then Friday at Paul Miller Ford and Lexington with a host of stars, right? Yeah, Malachi Marino, Jasper Johnson, and Sissy Cakes. Yes. So think about who all is going to be at the show Friday. Oh, Malachi and Jasper are going to be there? Yes. I didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Yeah. And then Sissy Cakes. Sissy Cakes. The Lexington debut of Sissy Cakes. well. I can't wait for breakfast. Is it bad that I'm more excited about sissy cakes than the players? Malachi Moreno was at the bar.
Starting point is 00:03:43 He was. After the game, we passed. Literally, as I left, he got there. And when he left, I got there. Really? Crutch said, you guys literally just missed him. He showed up right after you left, and I showed up right after Malachi left. Yeah, I heard his crew was having a party.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Yeah. On the patio was still there partying, but he was going. Yeah, so anyway, we, 859-280-2287 on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, A Vision Auto Glass Tax Machine, 772, 7745-254, and this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. We're called T.J. He'll make them pay. We're all here this weekend after a great week. Great weekend of basketball.
Starting point is 00:04:22 You had Kentucky win. You had high school and regional and high school district finals. Cala Perry fought Todd Golden, which I thought was exciting. And as far as how everything worked out, pretty good for Kentucky for the postseason. All the teams that kind of were where they were in the bracket, they all tended to lose. We won, Drew, so good weekend for the cats. It's a great weekend. Sunday we'll get to, not the best, but Saturday, perfect day in Lexington.
Starting point is 00:04:50 Like the weather was great. That 2 p.m. time slot is such a good time for Saturday game because you get the downtown's got a little bit going on before, then everybody out after. And then to finally just have a complete game and win like that. I know Big Blue Nation is still thrilled. Two days later. I know I am. I haven't been there. Yeah, two is good. I will tell you I like as a restaurant or four. For me, basketball, football, I've decided the sweet spot is night games because people just come all day. And then basketball, the sweet spot is four because you get before and after. Two is good, but four is better. And we get four, I think, this Saturday is. In Florida
Starting point is 00:05:26 is at four. So that's good. How awesome was it to sit back and watch your team play and not be anxious or frustrated, just enjoy the game, watch your team play well, and have a big win, and then it just kind of carried out through the whole weekend. Everybody had a little pepping. What about the win? I mean, Kentucky not only won, but controlled the game from start to fishing. That was the old, you know, the prime Kentucky basketball SEC home game. Get an early lead and just kind of control it the whole time.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Never, after a certain point, they never got closer than 10. Pretty much the rest of the game. Maybe got to seven a couple times, but that's it. Yeah, Vandy led like three to two, and then for the next 38 minutes it was all Kentucky. I'll admit I had my guard up, even with like five minutes left. I did too. It made me think of you and I sitting there watching Kentucky Indiana in the Sweet 16. And I was like, you know, they could hit a three here.
Starting point is 00:06:21 And you're going to win. Shut up. He got mad at me sitting there. I feel like I felt like that a little bit on Saturday. I probably had a little more negative energy than I should. Even though I had a blast. I kept thinking, oh God, at any moment. But, I mean, just a fun day, especially Chandler started off with five threes in the first half,
Starting point is 00:06:37 two in the opening minutes, really set the tone and made it a fun afternoon. Well, there's a lot of things. I think this Kentucky game, Ryan, they did about everything you would want to do to have success with this team. Yes. Came out and hit threes. Chandler hits threes, which immediately opens the floor for people. Immediately. It opens the floor to O-Way for driving lanes.
Starting point is 00:06:58 It gives Malachi the ability to go one-on-one in the puck. instead of always getting double-teamed. They get out in transition. So they come out shooting three as well. Then excellent defense, especially early. I'd say the first 25 minutes of the game was the best defense they played all year. Oh, I agree. And I think Malachi kind of set the tone.
Starting point is 00:07:20 And they pushed him around down in Nashville. He came out and he hit first. They ran a play for him right off the bat. And he was not showing. And I watched your yellow vitches and your garrison sliding their feet and doing well. Diabate, they go to the bench, which has worried us all year, and then Jasper and Garrison and Diabate, they basically keep the lead the same when they're in there. And in the second half, I think they even extended the lead when they were in there exactly
Starting point is 00:07:48 what you'd want for the bench. Yeah, Oway and Chandler are the highlights of 23 points apiece, but I think that group surviving that wave there. I didn't love Chandler sitting when he was on fire. but you know I got worried that's that stretch that's hurt them so much but that group especially with jasper hitting a three and garrison kind of kept himself in check he had a few moments where his eyes got wide but he didn't have a couple of those yeah even Noah didn't hit a shot you know he ended up going the whole month without a bucket but he had a few big defensive plays in there too so that that group did well in
Starting point is 00:08:18 keeping the league and then Aberdeen I thought was great especially at the start of the second half kind of had his little run where he controlled it and then really from the middle of the second from the 15, 13 minute mark in the second half on, O'Way just had a great game. Aberdeen, again, no turnovers. It's amazing to me that point guard he's become. I didn't see that coming. 16 assists and one turnover in the last four games.
Starting point is 00:08:43 I didn't see that coming from him. That's an amazing stat for him. 16 assists, one turnover in the last four games against playing 35 minutes plus a game. And then he also can hit the shot when he's got the open shot. So he has surprised me probably more than anybody this whole season. Is he number two on guy you want to take a three? I mean, it's Chandler and then him, right?
Starting point is 00:09:03 No doubt. No doubt. And he's hit some timely ones, some contested ones. You know, Oway, he's been knocking him down when he gets open looks. But Aberdeen's had some big moments where he's hit him too, especially in the last game where he had back-to-back on a 10-0 run. I mean, he's had some at key times in games. So I thought he had an excellent performance.
Starting point is 00:09:23 I was ready, you know, I was ready to. to kind of square up for Brandon Garrison when they hit him in the face. I was like, listen, you know, me, you and BG, sometimes, sometimes we can, I can get frustrated, but you know what? You're my guy. I'm going to roll with you. I mean, I got in the stance. I was ready.
Starting point is 00:09:39 You were in the stance. I was in the stance, Shannon, because that was a dirty hit. He hit him in the face after the whistle. Is that, I'm about to take your picture stance you were in? Oh, no, no, I was about to, to, you know, watch. I was in the onesie-to-zzy stance. BG can probably fight his own fight. You can say that, but I mean, I was there.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Yet he's back. I was more ready to fight than Todd Golden was against Cal Perry when he pulled the guy in front of him. We'll talk about later. I can't wait to talk about that one. But I was, you know, I was taken up for him. Haven't been there, that was a cool moment because we all have had frustrations with Garrison. He's kind of been a little bit of a punching bag for the fan base this year. But when he almost got his head knocked off, 20,000 people stood up just like you just did with their fist.
Starting point is 00:10:24 ready to defend him. That was the loudest moment in the game. So I found myself also, this is the bad part about being friends with Tom Hart. Okay. I decided, Tom Hart needs my point of view on this, even though he's calling the game. Because I'm listening to Hart and Bradshaw and they're looking at the replay and at first they just keep going, well, I mean, it's to his face, but it was intentional. But I'm sitting there going, it was after the whistle. That's the point.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Leave aside He hit him in the face It was after the whistle That wasn't even the And I felt like they didn't know Yeah So I just picked my phone up And I was like Tom Hart
Starting point is 00:11:03 It was and then I capitalized After the Whistle And then about that time I know I'm behind the action Then Bradshaw or Hart One of them goes Well this is after the whistle And I had just sent the text
Starting point is 00:11:19 And I was like They're gonna think I'm stupid now Because they've already said I don't think a lot of the Kentucky players even saw it either. Otherwise, I think there would have been a bigger blowup than what there was. Good point. Has he been there, it didn't look nearly as bad until you got on your phone and saw that slow-mo camera angle where you see his neck. But people didn't realize the foul happened.
Starting point is 00:11:37 The other guy committed the foul. Nickel. Nickel. And then the poop was after. They should have kicked him out. It's after the whistle. You can't be doing it. It's bad enough if he didn't play.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Yeah, Shannon's right. I didn't think about that. The other players really didn't react. I guess they didn't see it. They may not have seen it because they had stopped. Like they were supposed to because of the whistle. It didn't help. It was just a few seconds after that phantom leg kick on Chandler.
Starting point is 00:12:00 So Chandler gets called for just barely sticking his leg out. And then Garrison loses his head. I almost sent a text to Tom about that. Wow. Because Bradshaw was like, well, that's his, you know, that's not his normal follow through. He kicked farther. And I wanted to be like, what are you talking about? That's the problem with having access to those people, to those guys.
Starting point is 00:12:20 So I held myself from that. He did do a left vocal cord, right vocal. chord drop. He did. I don't know. I didn't hear them as they were happening. I guess they were so subtle. I didn't hear the left. He did a Bath County Meat Shower. I did hear that one. I did hear that one. But that was what do you think of that call? That's a stupid call. Horrible call. The kicking leg out thing, that's supposed to be when you kick it to the side or even when you kick it under when they think you're trying to hurt him. That was just, he was just moving forward. It was kind of his natural shot. I mean, sure it was out a little bit, but not worth an offensive foul. And I felt
Starting point is 00:12:50 bad. It robbed him. I think you would have been seven of nine at that point. Yeah, he hit the shot. That's right. If he had made it, maybe he goes for Jody Meeks and tries to get for the 10. And being in Rupp, when they blew the whistle, we thought, or at least I thought he got fouled and it was an and one. So we had the emotion of, my goodness, a four-point play to what the, was that? How hot has he been in the last couple weeks, though? Chandler is just on fire.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Did you see that Doug Schaill's doing the game set the record for most games? I did see that. Past John Clockerty. I asked John Clockerty. And, you know, I remember my grandfather with John Clockerty. The old school fans did not like John Clockerty. You know, the whole going at it with SEC refs must be in my blood. Because I remember he hated John Clockerty and Don Rutledge.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Oh, another good name. Anytime you know a rap by name, it's not good. It's not good. For a good reason. We know what, Pat Adams and Doug Schell? Although it wasn't Doug Schall Saturday. It was that guy who called the kick. I don't know his name.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Doug Sheldley didn't get in the spotlight much on Saturday. See, I liked how they refed that game until those couple plays. Didn't call a lot of fouls. They let them play. And I actually thought it worked out. I thought it made the game a lot more entertaining. Yeah, he had Bauer and Jared and Will Howard with him. See, I don't know those guys.
Starting point is 00:14:08 I think in my family, he was definitely clockerty like everyone else's. Then when he left, they're like, well, we got to be mad at someone. And Tony Green had a long run. Tony Green did have it. And I really like Tony Green. I became friends with Tony. And then Tony kind of shifted to Doug here in the last several years. Tony doesn't do it anymore, does he?
Starting point is 00:14:25 No, no. So we have, who are the ones we know now? Joe Lindsay. Joe Lindsay. He, yeah, I don't like him. Yeah. Doug Shows. What's the one that looks like Shannon?
Starting point is 00:14:36 Sermons. Sirmons. I don't think he's in SEC that guy. I feel like we only see him in the tournament. He was doing some other SEC games, but he hasn't done our games this year. I don't, probably because he looks like Shannon. He doesn't even look like me at all. Like nothing like me.
Starting point is 00:14:49 He looks kind of like you. Sometimes I wonder if you guys have even looked at me before when you say it's like. But I think it's weird how many people you look like. Let me tell you, I don't even bring up. The text machine gets free Shannon the dude looks like this guy a week. Yeah. You have a lot of them. Because I'm so handsome.
Starting point is 00:15:07 There's a lot of handsome men out there. That's what it is. Yeah. Yeah, I think it's just because you have a look. I feel like you have a lot of extended family. I mean, who's the one that was the one that was the most Shannon? Sermons is up there. It was a singer, a rock and roll singer that looked dead on Shannon.
Starting point is 00:15:27 I don't remember who it was. And to be fair, the Mr. Rogers puppet is. Well, you look like howdy-duty. See, you always bring that. It's so mad. Why does the Mr. Rogers puppet make you so upset? Because you say I look like a puppet. It's a good-looking puppet.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Which puppet were we talking about, though? The handsome one. The handsome one. I actually think it's a woman. Was the king, is it a king on there? No, not the king. Calm down. I can't remember which puppet it was, but it was a puppet.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Lady Elaine? Lady Elaine. I don't know which one it was. I don't know if it was. But I remember when they sent it. Anyway, so who else? You got Doug Sirmin's Courtney Green now we know. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:08 Because of the one game. Courtney Green does not look like me. No, Courtney Green does not look like you. I'm just draft. I'll tell you, I can't think he was name. I missed the high stepper so much. He's still around college basketball. He doesn't do us, though.
Starting point is 00:16:21 But he was so fun. Yeah, 859-28027. Text machine is 772-774-5-254. We will take a break and be right back. This is the KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,
Starting point is 00:16:40 and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode we're cutting through the noise. Starting point is 00:17:41 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:18:23 Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman, catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world. He doesn't look back. Ferrari's and Lamborghinis, private jets,
Starting point is 00:18:45 meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion-dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history.
Starting point is 00:19:08 You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that
Starting point is 00:19:40 shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WMBA standout, Kate Martin and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
Starting point is 00:19:59 An Olympic champs, Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning.
Starting point is 00:20:22 It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Welcome back. Taking Sports Radio 859-280-2-807. See, the only problem with winning is more listeners, less phone, no phone calls. It's easy thing because, like, you people,
Starting point is 00:20:53 I do think the listenership oddly is the same or up if we win. But when it comes to interaction and calls, winning, like, it's just, I guess, the natural thing. It's something to remember in the comment section. when people are raging to get something in the comment section most people if they're happy just go okay it's good but when they're mad they post something so if you just look at the comments you go getting lit up no it's most people are like oh that's good yeah we won not as many phone calls when you win even on twitter like if i look at my replies when we win nothing to complain about
Starting point is 00:21:28 nothing to complain about but it was nice it felt like lexington was happy Saturday I even went out I don't go out and I even went out. We went to KS barb. We got there at 8 o'clock still kind of buzzing from the wind earlier. Did you get wild? No, no. I just went to dinner at, what's the name of the place? 310.
Starting point is 00:21:50 What did you think of it? I liked it. What kind of food is? Like Caribbean food. I liked it. They got some duck fried rice. They just put ducks in there and fried it. And it was good.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Bout buns. Yeah, we got one of those. It was a lot of it was a half. It was a happening crowd. Way more happening. And then Sunday, I went to my first probably in 20 plus years kids basketball game to see my friend, hubby and Sarah's son play. Was Max getting buckets? Max was getting buckets.
Starting point is 00:22:20 Oh, there was a kid. Chan, look just like me. Glasses taller than everybody else. Dorky. Getting buckets, though. I think he was the only player in double. digits. Was he really? Yes. And I was, even though he wasn't on Max's team, was kind of cheering him on. Yeah. So to the Warriors Big Man, whatever your name is, I know you're three or four inches taller
Starting point is 00:22:47 than everybody else. And that can be awkward right now, but you just remember you're getting buckets. Yeah. And one day you could be hosting on the radio. When they took him out, they'd see on the bench and read a math book or something. Maybe. But he had a left hand. Yeah? Yeah. I was, I mean, I was for Max's team, but I was kind of like, you get, you get yours. I understand. Bowcut, haircut, haircut. Yeah. Hovey had said there's a dude that looks like you.
Starting point is 00:23:12 And he did. And he did. I will say after the game, though, they told me something. I have concerns about this. You know Southland Christian Church. Right. Do you know Southland? A lot of people.
Starting point is 00:23:25 I guess their minister, Shannon, got up at Lent and said, for Lent, I want you all to take some meat. take the media, news and sports, and just as a way of cleansing for Lent, turn them all off for however long Lent is. That's why we weren't getting any calls in the first segment. And so someone came up to me after one was like, all the husbands got together, and they asked what they missed the most, and they were all saying KSR. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:24:00 Now, she was like, so I just want you to know if you've seen a dinner. in your ratings, the Southland men and women are sad. We don't get to listen to you right now. Now, presumably, if they're hearing this right now, they're cheating. They don't listen to sinners. They're cheating. But I don't like this Southland. Like, in theory, do I like the idea of tune out the noise for 30 days?
Starting point is 00:24:23 Sure. But that can't include us. Not this noise. I think they meant like new. That's right. Fox News, CNN, tune that out. There's always an exception to everything. We're the exception.
Starting point is 00:24:35 But she said it. She was like these men and women at Southland, they're like, they're missing it. I like the idea you find these guys like hiding the garage in the dark listening to KSR in the corner. So listen, there's one of you all at Southland hearing. Listen right now. Feel free to tell the others. It's okay to skip. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:24:53 I won't tell your minister. We wouldn't tell you to not go to church. He's probably not wearing a suit anyway. Yeah. I won't tell him. And dear Southland minister, It's Lent. Make them give something else up.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Why did you say you had to give up this? Yeah, I don't like this. I don't either. We've done shows with Southland in the past. Yeah, I spoke at their men's conference. It's great place. So, for those of y'all, they're cheating, I promise you I won't tell. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:25:21 All right, let's go to Jacob. Go ahead, Jacob. Hey, guys. Good morning. My top three, personally, KSR, Kentucky Wildcats, and then my kids. We should flip the order. Let's put the kids first and then go from there. Oh, my bad.
Starting point is 00:25:42 I got dyslexia. Great game Saturday, man. Great game. What do, as far as, I mean, we've seen what Florida did against Arkansas Saturday as well. What are odds of Florida coming to rub and us getting a win? I mean, if we play like we did Saturday, we're going to be hard. They're not high, but it's not impossible.
Starting point is 00:26:03 appreciate the call. I mean, I would say you play that Kentucky, Florida game in Rup three times we'll win one. I think they would win two of three. I think we would win one of three. I generally, I mean, I think you've got a 33 to 40 percent chance. And I think that's pretty good, to be honest with you. You're in line with Kim Palm. It gives them a 31% chance. Okay. And I know better than the computer that it's going to be wild. Your analytics are just a little sharper. Yeah, because I hear the, I hear when the computer does. Really? They hung with them for the whole game in Gainesville except that start. We're Lee busted a few threes.
Starting point is 00:26:39 They got up by 10, but then Kentucky just kind of stayed down the same amount for most of the game. If you can play a complete game, anything like you did against Vandy. Yeah, they're more capable of winning it. The key is against Vandy. First of all, how about the stats that Vandy shot 73% from 2? Yes. And we still won by it. Easily.
Starting point is 00:26:59 They shot 73% from 2, Shannon. Maybe they should have shot more twos and, last three. Well, they're more of a three-point shooting team, but unfortunately they couldn't hit them. Yeah. Yeah. On Saturday. They played good. I mean, they missed some open ones, but we also did a pretty good job contesting at the line. Yes. It's just crazy. They waxed us down in Nashville. We looked awful. And then they come here and erupt and it's the exact opposite. We look good and they looked awful. If Kentucky plays like that, though, they can beat anybody if they play like that on Saturday. The tall kid in the game. Yeah. What did you do? Oh, you know, he'd get fouled all the time.
Starting point is 00:27:32 So he's big. But the refs don't call it. They're biased against the tall guys. I felt for him. You knew that you experienced that back in your day. Now, when he shot free throws, he wasn't a great free throw shooter, but he had the left hand.
Starting point is 00:27:46 Yeah. But it was tough because Hubby and Sarah right there, I don't want to root against their kids' team. Playing against him. I like that the tournament had seven professional, like the names of the teams. Seven like NBA teams. It was like the Warriors, the Celtics, Lakers.
Starting point is 00:27:59 And then Hubby and Sarah's kids' names, they were just the hurricane. which is not an NBA team. Franchise team. And they had a color scheme that was completely different. I like that. You know what? We're going to be the Chicago Bulls.
Starting point is 00:28:14 We're just going to be the, you know, avocados. Why not? But the people get into it, me. Oh, yes. I tell you what? Where do they find the referees for the kids games? Yeah. Oh, Kraft.
Starting point is 00:28:27 I would not want to be one of those guys. They, I'll tell you this. I watched them. they had no care in the world. They just blow the whistle. Somebody'd say something. They'd just look at them and then hand a kid to bowl. I coached a seven-year-old team one season and I had a few moments with refs. They need to hear it in that league too.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Did you? Yeah. I was hearing stories of people who got, who got wanting them. They were telling me a story of the youth basketball league or football league there. The police had to escort a coach out of the games. It happens? Wow. You had to defend your kids.
Starting point is 00:28:59 They're getting... Defend them against what? If they're getting hosed by the wrong? You got to let them know. It doesn't matter if they're seven years old. You think the refs have a bias towards either the Warriors or the Hurricanes? Yeah, I had a big moment when I was coaching Hudson Automotive. Oh, you coached Hudson Automotive.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Championship game. Wow. Well, we at Walter's pharmacy would have taken you down. We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J., he'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:29:30 All right, so if we're looking at the people that look like Shannon, Doug Sermon, he looks like old Shannon. They could definitely be brothers. They definitely could be brothers. And then what's the name of the singer you all just showed? It looks like the lead singer of Over the Rainbow. I think his name is Joe. Joe. Over the Rainbow.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Everybody just Google in Turner. The Rainbow Joe. First of all, their Google searches are going to go way up. Yeah. Over the Rainbow. Oh, wow. Joe. And his name is Joe?
Starting point is 00:30:00 All right. I'm going to look. This is what he looks like now. I don't think, I don't think Shannon looks like this. No, no, he doesn't look like that.
Starting point is 00:30:06 That's him today. No, well, the old picture. There you go. There you go. That's Shannon's headed towards. Oh my goodness.
Starting point is 00:30:12 That's Shannon. That's Shannon. Wow. I can't see it. My good. Shannon. Oh, Joe Lynn Turner.
Starting point is 00:30:24 Joe Lynn Turner on over the rainbow. Joe Lynn Turner. Now, dot the one that he's ball. But where he has hair before he goes bald. That looks like female Shannon. Holy cow. That's the closest of anybody I've ever seen look like Shannon.
Starting point is 00:30:42 That guy's dead on. Joe Lynn. No. Joe Lynn the dude. 859-280-2027. One person writes, Matt, what about the nicknames that people came up for AOC for Aberdeen O.A. and Chandler? So O-Way said he was calling the Aberdeen-O-Way-Chandler group the three-headed goat. And first of all, do you like that name?
Starting point is 00:31:10 I do not. Yeah, I don't really either. It doesn't really go off the tongue. No. And there's not really something you want to be unless we're talking about greatest of all the time. I think that's what he means, though, greatest of all times. Greatest of all times. There's only one.
Starting point is 00:31:23 And there are no three-headed goats. No, there's a two-headed goat, but not three. So I didn't love it, but you know, that's what they like. And then someone called in the show, Shannon, and said, what about AOC? No, I'm sure you loved that one. I thought excellent. Yes. But I don't know if that's going to be embraced by the fan base.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Most of our fan base probably not going to. I don't know if AOC is going to quite hit. Probably not. But I mean, they could, she could come be the Y on Saturday. I'm sure. I don't know how well that would work either. In a different time in American history, maybe you could have done this. that. I think people wouldn't have, people won't, won't like it as much, as much now. Um, so
Starting point is 00:32:04 Lent is 40 days. 40 days. Yeah. 40 days of no KSR. Yes. Now, there are people who are saying to me that, uh, they think Southland didn't mean KSR. This person told me that there were a lot of people, like a lot of people who were taking it as chaos. Tune out the noise. Now, I will say this about, I understand like Easter is when it is. Right. I get it. But, it's March. That's when a lot of people tune in. Are you telling people to tune out basketball in March? I guess Lent started when we're in a little dark spot.
Starting point is 00:32:38 It was before the Vandy game. Maybe they thought they were going to ignore a bad finish for Kentucky basketball. Even if you're just a casual, like this is the time. I agree. So. Maybe there's a loophole. You can't listen live, but you can listen to podcast. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:32:53 I didn't get the rules. I think a lot of them are sitting in their car hiding, lying to people. Yeah, I understand. Let's go to Nancy. Go ahead, Nancy. Hey, Matt, guys. Okay, so great game on Saturday. I was able to, my language didn't get quite as bad on Saturday. Good. I have a question. So my son works for Butler. When I watch the Butler games, they always comment like, well, they've lost their point guard. They've lost. Do they ever say that
Starting point is 00:33:21 about Kentucky? I mean, we've lost three good players. Yeah, they do. They do. I think you just like probably like it goes like when you watch Butler you're watching them for the first time most it's probably Butler's only on TV a handful of times of the year so that they don't think they're on there on a lot yeah they're on a lot I'm just saying I'm
Starting point is 00:33:42 I think they say sorry I think they say I think they talk especially about Jaylen Lowe being out quite a bit they mentioned him a lot maybe not Cam and Quaance but I feel like they mention a lot especially when they show Aberdeen they'll say well you know he wasn't supposed to play his position etc.
Starting point is 00:34:00 Right, I do hear that. So does that affect our seating? I mean, will that affect, you know? No, because they're not playing. I mean, the term, one of the things the committee does, Nancy, is they are seating the team that you have when the tournament starts. So. Okay. So the fact that we lost those guys will not help us.
Starting point is 00:34:21 They will seed the team that's going into the tournament. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Well, thanks. And I love your show. Listen all the time.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Okay. Appreciate it. Yeah. I mean, they're very adamant about that. So, you know, we won't get credit, I guess, for guys being hurt because those guys are not going to play. So it won't matter. And when you're looking at Kentucky right now with the way Aberdeen's playing, you're not like, wow, they're one point guard away. You know, Lowe should be there.
Starting point is 00:34:48 No, he's playing pretty awesome. He is. It might not even change anything if Lowe were healthy. Yeah. Let's go to Casey. Go ahead, Casey. Hey, fellas, good morning. I just had a pause with a couple things.
Starting point is 00:34:59 So Tom Hart killed it on Saturday. He is such one of us. I love it. He's doing Tuesday nights game as well. Yes he? Oh, that's exciting. So, but then the second thing I had, everybody has to go listen to that postgame show
Starting point is 00:35:14 because it was incredible. Like, I never laughed out loud as hard as I did with UK fish names. I did get it. I did get it. I did get a great day. Appreciate to call Casey. I did get a little giddy. Because a woman called in and said she had an aquarium where she named all the fish after the UK players on that team.
Starting point is 00:35:38 So there was a Tayshan and a Keith Bokens. And I was like, well, was there a Gerald Fitch? And she said, yes. And I said, did you call it Gerald Fish, which led to people calling in and writing with puns of UK fish players? And I thought of you, Drew, how you would have been great. I mean, we had cod lanter. Oh, I was just doing cod in my head. You know, there were a lot of John Walleye, Nate Sestuna.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Oh, that one's my favorite. Nate Sestuna, I thought it was maybe, was maybe, I liked, I liked anchovio Reeves. Some deep ones. They were good. You probably already did something with jelly and yellow of it. Was there a jellyfish? No, we, I couldn't, people couldn't make it work. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:26 That's where my brain went too. You have to like make it work. You had, some of them were just playing on the gill. I'm trying to think. There were a lot. And they kept coming in and I, oh,
Starting point is 00:36:37 the Harrison Fins. And every time they would come in, I would get giddy and I would start laughing at Billy and I couldn't finish the show. Shark Cubs? We had Patrick Sharks. Oh, okay. That's a good one. And as they came in,
Starting point is 00:36:52 I just, I started acting silly. We needed one of those post-game shows. you could get giddy and talk about fish, not worry about your team playing bad. Joe, go ahead, Joe. I didn't hear the post game. Did you guys get any salmon malones or salmon boo? We're not doing it this show.
Starting point is 00:37:10 All right, that was for that show. But yes, that was salmon came in on a couple of them. I didn't think of salmon malone. But again, that doesn't work because it's Sam. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. It's not my take, but you're Shannon.
Starting point is 00:37:31 looks like sermons. The better half insists every single game that Bradshaw calls. He sounds like Collinsworth. And I always thought that was a little bit there, but Collinsworth is a little bit more, you know, hash, sounds like he's half stoned. In this past game, she said half Collinsworth,
Starting point is 00:37:52 half Drew Franklin. And I think she might be on to something. I'm not sure. Just throwing it out there. Do you think he sounds like either of those guys? I appreciate the call. I haven't thought that. I do think he's very good, though.
Starting point is 00:38:02 I really think Dame Bradshaw's a really good announcer. I think he's great at it. I think he makes observations that are dead on. To me, he's going to be, he's, if, you know, he doesn't have the biggest name, but to me, he's going to rise and be one of their top guys. He and Slay both are former Vols that we've started to like because of their broadcasting careers. Slay's going to be, Slay's going to be one of the main ESPN studio.
Starting point is 00:38:30 guys sooner rather than later. And it's, I agree with you. What's amazing about Kentucky basketball is as good as we've been over the years. We've never really produced a great commentator on the national scene. We've never real, even on the SEC network, they've given guys chances. And it just, they just have not had a guy connect. Yeah, they gave Tony Duck a chance, Antoine Walker a chance. I mean, Mashburn is doing that one show.
Starting point is 00:39:00 Actually, no, Mashburn's pretty good. I didn't think Mashburn would be great, but I think he's gotten good. I think he's good with Bruce Pearl, but we don't ever see him because he's on the Big 12 games. Right. I like Larry Connolly back in the day. Larry Connolly. Yeah, that's a long time ago. But yes, he was very good.
Starting point is 00:39:19 I've had other people say that Drew sounds like Dane Bradshaw. Really? Yeah. First I've heard that. Rex was pretty good. Yeah. But Rex, you know, talk about not sticking to sports. I mean, that's a guy who was not going to stick to sports.
Starting point is 00:39:33 But I thought Rex on our pregame show was amazing. He was good. When he was around the team those couple years. Yeah, he just got into the political little too much and they couldn't. Yeah, they just couldn't do it. Starting point is 00:44:12 Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. All right, somebody sent me a screenshot of the Southland Minister of the things people had to tune out of their life for these. All right. They've got it listed? Yeah. So see if any of these apply to us. Cultural commentators. Probably yes.
Starting point is 00:44:32 No, no, not us. We talk about the culture. We're not in this setting. Not for Lent. So you're saying we are a cultural commentator, but not enough of one to... They meant other ones. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:44:46 Political commentators. Not really on this show. No. I mean, I think they mean 94-5 from 7. Yeah, that's 94-5. Mixmas. All right. News organizations.
Starting point is 00:45:00 I mean, we kind of qualify in all the... these, but not really. Well, that's why you can't push into one. This one, I think this one, this one is going to get us. Shannon. Yeah. Podcasts that aren't about Jesus. Well, that's us.
Starting point is 00:45:14 We can talk Jesus though right now if you want to. We can do a Jesus segment. Pro. Sponsored by Draft Kings. Pro Jesus. I'm pro Jesus. You know what? I got no problem.
Starting point is 00:45:22 I think you should get a contract extension. You should. Yeah. Big fan, actually. Influencers, YouTube personalities, and internet pastors without churches. Well, we're not an internet. pastor without a church. That's right. We don't even claim to be. So I could see how you could see that and say.
Starting point is 00:45:40 Like three of those five. But we're not like one. You know, we're a little bit of everything. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. So I don't think you can just put us into one category. We're for God, though. But we're definitely a podcast. It's not about Jesus. It's true. I think that might be the one that gets us. Yeah. All right. I understand. I appreciate the sentiment. I just feel like we should have gotten. the parentheses except KSR. True. We'll talk to him after Easter.
Starting point is 00:46:07 During March Madness. All right. If I'm not, what about the Jaden Quentin's dad comment? You know, his dad has been kind of vocal more than once. It was just pleasure while things have gone with his son and UK. This was like right as the game was starting. Yeah, yeah, it was. I had heard a rumor that he'd moved out of Lexington like a month ago, and so I just think that it's, uh, I think he's, of course now I can't find the comment.
Starting point is 00:46:33 But it leads me to believe that he is definitely. The comment was essentially what all the same people didn't see it. It was something like. Y'all pushing narrative. Y'all pushing y'all and he was talking to some fan. Yeah. And he was basically like, Jane came back even when the coaches didn't want him to come back. And yes, he had swelling.
Starting point is 00:46:55 And then like, I. He doesn't go out. He doesn't hang out. All he does is rehab and ice. That's what he said. Yeah. But he was clearly not happy. And that's not been the first time.
Starting point is 00:47:03 Right. You know, you know my view. Parents shouldn't be chippin. I mean, doesn't do you any good. Doesn't help your son-in-ball. Doesn't help your kid. Doesn't help you. It never helps. And the chert back at a fan like that was, I think it was a bad look.
Starting point is 00:47:23 And it was like right before the game. As far as like, Quitance, I mean, he's not going to play here again, right? I mean, I haven't expected him in well over a month on the tweet age. just an incredibly long tweet. As soon as I saw it, it's like, well, you know, my readers and pause everything I'm doing to read this. But I get his dad, that's the nature to defend your son, especially he's getting a lot of it online. But I just, as you all have said, with parents and putting that out there, it just, you're just asking for. It never makes it back.
Starting point is 00:47:50 No, it's got like 350,000 views, a lot of engagement. I mean, you know, it's not the best. It's hard to say a parent. Don't defend your kid. Yeah. But it never works out in this setting. Yeah. Doug, go ahead, Doug.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Yes, Matt, I have an observation, then a question for the group. For myself, one reason I don't usually think about calling in after a big win like Saturday as because I prefer to listen to what you guys have to say. I've heard that. I appreciate it. Thank you. And the question for the group, you mentioned a while ago the good commentators. Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:31 Who is your least favorite commentator? I have one and it's not even close to the rest. Who's that? Rafferty. Oh, really? You don't like Rafferty. Why is that? Well, he does that growling thing he does all the time.
Starting point is 00:48:46 And then he gets choked on his fleam and keeps trying to talk and you can't make out a word he's saying. I've never noticed that. All right. Well, I appreciate the call, Doug. You know, I actually think college basketball is, appreciate it. is kind of blessed with good commentators. Like I'm trying to think of who does Kentucky games for the most part. Our three ones, we get Billis and Jimmy Dykes the most.
Starting point is 00:49:13 Jimmy Dykes probably the most of color commentators. And then probably Billis second. And then we get a lot of Dame Bradshaw. We've had a few games where we had like Damien Fishback. I thought he was. The guy we had, the guy that I don't want to be mean. The guys we had. for the South Carolina game. Yeah, I was going to say the same thing.
Starting point is 00:49:35 That guy goes going, that's what they need to do. They need to score in the paint. He said that 20 times. Yeah, is that Perry Clark? Perry Clark. Yeah, probably could move Perry Clark to a different conference. Former South Carolina assistant. I know. He was a lot. With Kevin, Fitzgerald. Yeah, the other guy's fine, but Perry Clark was a lot. Fran Frashella does a lot of SEC games, but he doesn't do our games. It was Rodney Terry. Wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:50:01 it that wasn't the one. It wasn't Perry. Whoever did the South Carolina game. Rodney Terry. He's saying it was Perry. Yeah, it was Perry for South Carolina. Either way, that guy's not the best. Fraschilla's okay. I like Fran, fine. I don't have guys that really annoy me like back in the day, do you? No, not really. I mean, I was never a big Bill Walton fan, but then it kind of grows on you a little bit. He's probably not going to do anymore. Yeah, but I didn't like him doing games, but then any more he did it, the more it kind of grew on me a little bit. I mean, play by play, I'm going Tom Hart. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:33 Then Ion Eagle. We don't get a lot of Iron Eagle games, but I love Iron Eagle. You're looking like Dave Fleming. But we never have him. No. So I don't really know. We used to always have Sean Farnham, but we don't have him anymore. They put him out on the West Coast all the time.
Starting point is 00:50:48 We get Carl Ravich all the time with Jimmy Dykes. You really like, you like Carl Ravich. I think he's great. But yeah, I don't think there's anybody bad right now. Do you? Not really. And to be honest, I'm at the game for home games and I sink with Tom and Jack almost all the time unless it's Tom for a way of games.
Starting point is 00:51:04 We're actually kind of blessed in the college basketball. I think everybody's pretty good. Let's go to Mark Anthony. Go ahead, Mark. Good morning, Matthew, Ryan, Drew, and Shannon. Hey, fellas, that three-point shot, column was fouled. I don't see it any other way. I mean, how you take a three-point shot, end up on your backside on the floor.
Starting point is 00:51:26 How are you not a foul? Nonetheless. And the foul against B.C. he liked to took his head off. It was hard to see from the first few angles they showed, but when they showed it from behind him, he liked to take his head off. And it was real funny I thought when Doug Shows
Starting point is 00:51:45 walked up there to make the announcement to the crowd. Oh, yeah, that was great. And everybody booed, and he was like, give me a second. Hold on, hold on. And just give me a man. I appreciate the call. was definitely because it was Doug Schault. Everyone was booing and he was like,
Starting point is 00:52:04 just hang on. There's another paragraph to my answer. I love that. That was really funny. Crowd wasn't waiting. Like I said, that was coming right off the Chandler thing too. So the crowd was already hot, even up by double digits. So Doug got it pretty good in that moment. Yeah, he did.
Starting point is 00:52:19 They were expecting Shows. This is probably reversed the call and not calling a flag or fowsel. As he said that everybody jumped on him. But to the question, I think my perfect thing would be like I'm Eagle, Bill Raftery, and Tom Hart as like the host coming in and out. That'd be good. That's what I would love. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Come back. Hour number two, this is KSR. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel helped an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform?
