Starting point is 00:02:50 Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Tuesday. March the 3rd. I'm Matt Jones here in Louisville, Kentucky, where I'm, I'm, in a studio by myself. I've got Shannon in the studio next to me. Ryan and Lexington. Ryan and
Starting point is 00:03:07 Drew are in Lexington. Hello, fellas. How are you? Good morning. How are you, sir? I'm lonely. I mean, I come in here. I have to look at Mario and his cream sweater. And then that's really it. 859-2802287. It's Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. AVision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7525254.
Starting point is 00:03:26 And this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. If you call T.J. He'll make them pay. it is the final road game of the season for the cats. They are going to be in College Station, where I went to a game, I guess it was four years ago, and it was awesome. And we came back and won, and now Kentucky has a chance to continue their hot winning streak
Starting point is 00:03:50 and win the game at 7 o'clock tonight before they play Florida on the weekend. Ryan, this is a game that the beginning of SEC play looked like, oh no, but they're not. but A&M, like a lot of teams we've played, is on a long losing streak coming into us, not playing well, chance to steal one this evening, even though we didn't against Auburn and Georgia. Yeah, A&M's lost six of the last eight, but back in January, they were like they were the team to beat. They were in first place.
Starting point is 00:04:17 They started so hot start conference play, high in the rankings. Now they've kind of just turned, Bucky ball has kind of hit a brick wall, it seems like, here late in the season. Yeah, Drew, I think we got a real shot to win this. is kind of played itself, if not on the bubble, at least one of the lower seeds. They kind of need this game. But I feel like we have a shot. I would say, again, guessing spreads, you may know, is A&M like two and a half point favorite?
Starting point is 00:04:46 You nailed it. Nailed it, two and a half point spread. Look at this. I didn't do well with the spread against Vandy, but otherwise been pretty good at those this year. I like our chances tonight, Drew. What about you? I do too. They're in desperation mode.
Starting point is 00:04:59 I think in the last bracketology, they have one of the last buys. So they're in, but they still would like to get a few more wins. And it's their senior night down there in College Station. Oh, wow. But otherwise, they've lost six out of eight. They play that Bucky Ball style. But if you can get them away from it, they don't have much of a half-core defense whatsoever. Some teams have –
Starting point is 00:05:19 So what is Bucky Ball style? People all say that all the time. What does it mean to – A lot of threes, a lot of layups, like Alabama, basically. Okay. That's what they call Bucky Ball. And press and shoot threes. So how do you think we...
Starting point is 00:05:33 Turnovers of the story tonight. Now, we like that in terms of, we like getting in transition, which can happen. How do you think we handle the press? That's not something we've seen a lot this year. Well, now that we have AOC, I'm not too concerned about it anymore. Aberdeen's being a great job at point guard. I mean, he's, what would your stat you said yesterday? The last four games, he's got like one turnover.
Starting point is 00:05:54 16 assists, one turnoff. That's amazing. For a guy that is really a two guard and had the different. develop into this point guard. So, yeah, bring all the smoke. I like my AOC back court. Bring all the smoke. Of an AOC, even in Texas? Yeah. Oh, AOC in Texas. That's probably, that's her stomping grounds. AOC showing in Texas. For people who missed the show yesterday, that's Aberdeen O.A. and Chandler. We're not making a political seat. It's Aberdeen O.A. and Chandler, the three-headed goat, AOC. So that game is at 7 o'clock. Our pregame show will start at 4.30.
Starting point is 00:06:27 There's a lot going on. So let's start. Let's start with the piece of, if not concrete news, at least reported news. Drew, Jack Pilgrim yesterday reported, Jaden Quaintence is back working with the team with the goal of playing in the postseason, which of course would be next week. He says he didn't say he would play, but that is the goal. This comes after yesterday where I think we all dismissed the idea. that he would play. So what do you think about that, Drew?
Starting point is 00:07:03 You think there's a chance he plays, or is it like he's going to work out, but probably not going to play? What do you think? I'm still pretty skeptical just because the calendar. He hadn't started practicing yet. He's close to starting practice. And, I mean, they're going to be going to Nashville a week from today. So how many really practices are left in the season?
Starting point is 00:07:24 So I like that he's trying. I like the attitude. and if he can give him some minutes, I think that will be great. I know some minutes I would like for some people to take. But just mathematically, if you haven't practiced yet, I mean, the postseason starts next week. I just wonder how conditioning-wise and how ready he can be when we only saw four games of him.
Starting point is 00:07:43 Yeah, I mean, I'm not skeptical of the report. I think that's what they, what people want to be out there. I just, I guess let's just be very. simple about it. Will he play a game at Kentucky again, Ryan? Did anything change? Yesterday, you said no. Does anything change your mind today to yes? I still feel like it's no. I mean, Jack Pilgrin wouldn't have put that out there without good information. But man, like Drew said, we're in March. March Madness is to start. You don't just kind of run some experiments here in March. You've got to go out and win the game. So my vote would be probably maybe get back
Starting point is 00:08:21 on the court to do some drills, but he's not going to play. Yeah. I mean, I tend to think no. But I also think that there is, they want people to think that he's trying, and I understand that. I think probably there might have been a little internal regret, Drew, about the dad post this weekend. You think that's maybe part of it? That, if you want to have a conspiracy theory, some mock drafts came out yesterday. Yeah, and he had gone down quite a bit. I thought he's had the right attitude all year. Now, I think when he came back and swelling came up and he wasn't used the way he kind of wanted to probably shutting it down.
Starting point is 00:09:01 But if he's going to try, I completely support it. I just think you're at the end of the year where it just seems impossible for him to make a return having not practiced. You think it would have much of an impact? Like, I feel like Cam Williams can come back and it would be an impact. Jane Quaint's, I mean, it's certainly okay, but I don't think that's really the issue for Kentucky going into the postseason. If I were to say to you, you could snap your fingers magically and get someone back, wouldn't you take Cam Williams? I think you would because Jaden Quaidens would probably just give you maybe, what, five, six minutes a game. How much impact you'll be able to make in that short a run out there?
Starting point is 00:09:41 But Cam Williams has something that we do not have. The tall winged one wing, Drew, for me, I think Cam Williams would have a bigger impact. And even if Williams didn't even have much of an impact. That's just a position where you need more bodies where if he gave you any minutes, it could help out overall where I still want more minutes for yellow bit. There's Biggs I want more minutes from right now. So I think they're more desperate at the slot Cam Williams could help. All right. So then the other thing is I, you know, I don't know how you do this, how you say this right?
Starting point is 00:10:16 I think there's a decent chance that there could be some big Kentucky athletics news today. if we follow the script of what always happens, it would be announced at like 1205. Yep, right over the show ends. That's generally speaking what happens. I like how Mario turned around and looked at the clock. Still the first segment. We're not to 1205.
Starting point is 00:10:42 First segment's always 10 to 10 to 1020. Let me ask you. I put out, we have not. as a group talked. I put out the thing last night on a KSR plus that I was hearing something would happen. Have you guys heard anything? We haven't talked about it. So let's see, on your own, have you heard anything? I've not. I've kind of hoping maybe you'd tease us a little bit about what you think might actually play out. I don't like teasing you're not. That's weird. Don't ask Matt to tease you. Please don't ask me. I'm not going to, I have no interest
Starting point is 00:11:19 in teasing you, Ryan. No. So you have everything. What about you, Drew? I have heard something that would be on this timeline, but I did not hear it as recent as like yesterday to be on high alert. But I haven't been anticipating something. Yeah. Some reasonably soon. So, you know, I mean, the question. Well, I mean, I think it's an important conversation. And since I think it's going to come out. at 1205, but I also want the person to be able to make his own timeline. So I'll just say, I think that there's likely to be an important transition coming. And I'll just leave it at that.
Starting point is 00:12:06 And if it does, I think it's, I actually think it's the right time for it to happen. And I think it would be a big deal for Kentucky Athletic. So I'll just leave it at that because, you know, it is what it is. And I can't, I think I was going to say it, Shannon, and then Ryan used the word tease. Yeah. Then it got weird. It got awkward. And then it felt like it got weird and I just need to change the subject.
Starting point is 00:12:32 Yeah. Maybe we should go on extra coverage like we did with the Julius Randall. Wasn't Julius Randall? No, it was Harrison Twins. Harrison Twins. We went, no, actually, you're right. It was Julius Randall. We went long.
Starting point is 00:12:44 Harrison Twins. We came back on the air in the after afternoon. Yeah, that was an afternoon. We did a special episode where we said first they split the zygote and now they're splitting defenders. The Harrison twins are back. So we'll leave it at that. I would just say, I think there could, I do think there's going to be news this week and it could happen as soon as today and this afternoon. Now, let's go back to Texas A&M. Drew, do you tell people, you know, the Bucky Ball thing, why is it stopped working? You think my general view that when you're a pressing team like that, the novelty just wears off and people figure you out? That and their top 20 and a bunch of stats, like threes, three's attempted, forcing turnovers. But I think they patted their stats a lot earlier in the year.
Starting point is 00:13:32 They're ranked high in scoring offense. But they had like four games in the non-conference where they scored like around 120 points. And they didn't play a great non-conference schedule, which was also a lot there on the a puzzle easier too. So I think they're getting into the tougher competition. Yeah. And that's also why they're on the bubble line and the body is because they have these, they don't have a ton of losses, but they didn't really play a ton of good teams in the non-conference. They opened the SEC with like LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State. So they were seven and one in first place for a long time, but even kind of with the non-conference,
Starting point is 00:14:08 I think they were doing a lot of their work early and now they ran into all the buzz sauce. Yeah. All right. So let's talk about what happens if we win. Okay, if Kentucky were to win, we are now 10 and 6 in conference. Let's say we go to 11 and 6. All right. If you're 11 and 6 in the conference, you have a chance to not only be a 6 seed, but I think you have a chance if you were to upset Florida to be like a 5 seed, which really would be amazing when I thought if we lost a couple, like three games ago, we'd be on the bubble. you win the night you're probably going to be a five six seed in the SEC tournament which gives you a path potentially to make a run you win tonight you're guaranteed that
Starting point is 00:15:01 that 20 win season that we've talked a lot about over the years you win tonight you go into this game against Florida with some momentum a chance to pull off an upset a chance to maybe even depending on what happens in the Arkansas games, if you were to beat Florida, you could get all the way up to a three seed in the SEC tournament, which is crazy if you think about it. This is a game with a potential to really, like, you've kind of made it to where you've got a puncher's chance in March, but now you have a chance to have a puncher's chance after having a good seed.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Ryan, this could be a huge victory for Kentucky if they could get it. Which is just crazy. It's been such a topsy-turvy season. This time last week we're talking about trying not to play on Wednesday in the first round of the SEC tournament. Now we've got a puncher's chance to maybe get it up with the three-seed in the SEC tournament if they can pull off these two wins. I worry that the game is almost bigger for Texas A&M though, isn't it? Like they need it for their... It is. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:16:04 People can get nervous sometimes, Drew, they stand up for their big shot. and then we can come in and they play nervous and next thing you know we win the game. Yeah, you could say the same thing last Saturday. They were at home playing Texas. Yeah, a team they should beat. I don't remember the points spread. I assume they were slightly favored and you know you lose that one. So they've already had their back against the wall a little bit.
Starting point is 00:16:28 They've lost six out of eight games here recently. So I still like Kentucky coming into this, especially as hot as Kentucky played last Saturday. And they've played well on the road a lot of times this year too. Yeah, well, 859-280, 2287. We'll get you ready for Kentucky A&M. We will take your calls. I'm in studio so I can see the names, Shannon, so I can pick people that look like they would be fun to talk to
Starting point is 00:16:52 and then save Bob and Jamestown for a time at the very end. Or never. Yes. Poor Bob. Yes. Leave them on hold for two hours. Yeah, let me also say this, by the way, on my scuttle butt. If it's not today, that's okay.
Starting point is 00:17:07 But I'm hearing could be today. But I do think this week. Stop teasing, Ryan. Will you? It's just, it's just what I'm doing. He's just over here. It's just, it's just, it's just, he's right here. And I can't help it.
Starting point is 00:17:23 We'll take a break. Be right back. KS. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened.

The question is, how do you conquer them?
Starting point is 00:20:24 On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions. to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WMBA standout, Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
Starting point is 00:20:45 It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs, Gabby Thomas, and Katie Ladeke. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. That's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
Starting point is 00:21:04 At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:21:29 859-2-80-22-87. Text machine, 772-7-4-5-254. What person writes, Matt is the announcement that Amy McGrath is a mother, a fighter pilot, and running for Senate. No, that announcement's been made many times every time. Although you don't see as many commercials. No. No, not be used to. Now, Nate Morris.
Starting point is 00:21:51 No, I know that name. I didn't know who that was six weeks ago. Well, that's why they do it. I would. But like I said yesterday, Nate, calm down. Just, I'm trying to watch the game. Every other commercials, him or Andy Barr, back to back sometimes. Even on YouTube, I'm just trying to watch a music video.
Starting point is 00:22:08 I know. I don't hear about any ofors. I would vote against both of them just on principle. Leave me alone. See, I'm that. Those people exist and I'm one of them. The more you bother me, I don't, you could be the perfect candidate. If I get tired of seeing you during my games, you're out.
Starting point is 00:22:21 I'm going to the next person on the ballot. You're out. That's right. You can have too much of you on my television and Nate is already there. Nate. text machine 772 775254. One person writes, Matt, if you're not going to say what the news is, why do you even talk about it? Because that is what content is.
Starting point is 00:22:41 You talk about something and then let people, you know, let people know something could be happening. And listen, like, if you want just the facts, sir, then go read the newspaper. And there's not a lot of you that do that. Like, unfortunately. So that's that's just conversation. I'm just, you know, it's, and there's also when it happens, I'll tell you as well why, why that's the case. So that's why. And like, as I said online last night when I wrote it, you know, Ryan, you and I come from an era like speculation is part of what's being fun about sports, right?
Starting point is 00:23:18 It's who's going to be the coach? What is the time with the most listeners to KSR? Mostly our listeners stay the same during the year. but the one thing that will always spike it is a coaching search. Absolutely. That's the thing that people care about the most. And now portal season is becoming like that. Are we going to get this guy?
Starting point is 00:23:39 Who's Ryan going to guarantee that we're getting that we don't get? Because people, I think, like Drew speculation and what's going to happen. That's part of being a fan. It wouldn't be that fun if we just all turned off the TV when the game's rover and just waited until the next time they'd, You can do that. You can do that, but I don't think that's as much fun. Now, before we go to the phones, Mark Stoops has a new job. I saw that. Mark Stoops is going to become the new special assistant at Texas. He will, it's hard. He will be, I guess, a consultant, which is what they're kind of doing now for former coaches as they kind of have a stop off in between their jobs. Texas has a bunch of those guys. Ryan, what do you think about Stoops in Texas? is, by the way, does not get rid of any of the salary obligation we have towards him.
Starting point is 00:24:32 I know people ask that question. I don't know if he's getting paid or not, but I've been told doesn't change the amount UK will owe him. Yeah, that's the first question I had. Is it affect the buyout for Kentucky? But apparently it doesn't. But it tells me he's not done with coaching. I mean, I really thought maybe he might write off in the sunset and have his bourbon
Starting point is 00:24:49 business. But he's obviously kind of still, his heart is still maybe being even a head coach again someday, I think. And those jobs, Drew, they can be very different. It can be a job where you're there full time. You're essentially a member of the staff. It can also be a job where you're there during the season and you're just doing game prep. Like every consultant job is different. Some of them are intense and some of them are less intense and I don't know which one this will be. So I don't know what type of consultant it is. But I'm happy for Mark. We play them this year. So that'll be of weird seeing him on the other side of the field but I'm happy for him that that will help
Starting point is 00:25:28 him get towards uh you know getting back into the business yeah we won't have to I don't think we play until next year so he didn't go to a direct we don't play him this we play Oklahoma that's right yeah yeah um I figured he might do this I was actually looking for him to do Georgia being so close he is to Kirby but I think Texas is a good fit on Texas's end I completely know why they went got Stoops. They're 0-and-3 against Georgia since being in the SEC. And Stoops, even though he never got him, his defense has played Kirby pretty well most years, and then even played Texas over time last year. So you bring him in to self-scout your own team and to help maybe get you over the hump
Starting point is 00:26:08 if you happen to run into Georgia again. I mean, it's funny how different the world would be if they had just converted that one of the touchdown against Texas. No doubt. I mean, he can. Mark Stoops might still be here. He might still be the coach here if they had scored right there. Were you surprised that he took this position?
Starting point is 00:26:25 Not really. I mean, I don't think he's like, I don't think he's like permanently moving from Lexington still. Now, if I hear he's moving to Austin, he's like full time joining the staff all the time, then that might surprise me a little bit. But I think he'll do the job where he's there during the season and practice. But I think his base, Ryan, is still going to be here. Well, like I said, just keep these fingers out there.
Starting point is 00:26:53 Maybe he, you know, next year he'll be a head coach somewhere else. I think he'll be a head coach again. I do. I don't know when, but I think he will. And I hope he is. I'll root for his team wherever he goes. Isaiah, what's up, Isaiah? Hey, Matt.
Starting point is 00:27:06 Listen, I just want to quote Mark Polk and say, I am motherbly being excited. I'm so optimistic right now with the news of Cam and JQ possibly returning. Do you think they will? I mean, you're optimistic. Like, do you feel like that could happen? or do you think it's just chatter? I think it could and maybe he's not like super impactful
Starting point is 00:27:28 but on a game to game situation matchups and everything if you ask JQ go get a stop I mean he's a defensive monster. I think he could help us in that way Jack Pilgrim talked to Malachi's brother last night on sources say
Starting point is 00:27:43 and I thought it was a really good piece I encourage everybody to listen to it. Did he say Malachi was going to come back? That's what I want to know. I think it's possible. But what I thought was very... Possible is not an answer. We know it's possible.
Starting point is 00:27:59 Anything is possible. What did he say? I didn't get to hear it. Well, basically with JQ, he's just saying, you know, every game. Not JQ, Malachi. Malachi. Sorry. And then, of course, we lose him, Shannon right there.
Starting point is 00:28:17 So wishy-washy. Wow. What a cliffhanger. What going on there? I learned nothing from that. his phone didn't work. I got excited. What did Michael Moreno say?
Starting point is 00:28:26 Because by the way, I think, Drew, that's the most important thing for next year. Are you getting Malachi Moreno back? Moreno and Chandler. Promise me they come back. And that's a great head start for next year. And Moreno, well, both of them, but Moreno especially, his phone's going to be ringing a lot. Because there's not a lot of those guys that'll be coming back to college basketball. So I don't know, they've already been having these conversations behind the scenes.
Starting point is 00:28:49 If you haven't got it done, lock it up soon so there's no temptation once this season ends. They're kind of underpaid for him last year. They're going to have to overpay this year. They did underpay. That's fine, though. Do it. You can't let a kid from Scott County get out of the state and go somewhere else.
Starting point is 00:29:06 If he goes to the draft, that's one thing, but you can't have him go to another college. We'll take a break. Be right back. It's KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by. by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Welcome back. Yeah, we're not going to Austin, but we're going close. Well, Stoops is. Oh, that's true. Yeah, this is for Stoops. This isn't for you. Why do I, why do I, why do I, why do I even question? You're right. I should have, should have known. Shannon knows. 859280-2287.
Starting point is 00:29:42 All right, so tomorrow, we're going to have on Cash Daniel for a little bit. He's got wrestling on Friday. OVW is in Lexington Friday. Shannon, are you wrestling? I have no idea. But if Cash wants to rumble, I'll get in there with him. I'm here. I'd heard it might be Cash versus Shannon.
Starting point is 00:30:03 If he wants some, he can bring it. I know every trick in the book. He's probably weighs 125 pounds more than you. Yeah, but he doesn't have much between the ears. He's a little dull. Oh, no. So I can outsmart him. It only takes three seconds to win.
Starting point is 00:30:19 Oh, no. Yeah. Well, you're going to throw salt in his eye and hitting him behind. All right. So we have. So, but it's not just Shannon and Cash. I believe, Ryan, Willie Collie Stein is going to be there. Yes.
Starting point is 00:30:32 Yeah. Who else? How does that Willie fight him? Khalil Whitney is going to be there. Yeah, there's a chance. There's going to be several former UK football and basketball players there for like meet and greets. So that's Friday night. Where is it Friday?
Starting point is 00:30:46 I should know this. The alumni center. So Friday night at the alumni center. So Friday night at the 11-in-sitter, OVW, good chance to bring out your family, and there will be lots of former UK players there. Cash will be wrestling. Shannon is going to get beat up, and then there's going to be Willie and other people there, and they may even be involved in somehow. I don't know. I'm going to probably stop by and yell at some people.
Starting point is 00:31:10 So that is Friday night if you're looking for pre-Florida game entertainment. also Friday our remote at Don, excuse me, at Paul Miller Ford, we will have sissy cakes there. Sissy cakes makes their debut, Drew, in Lexington, Friday at our remote. Looking forward to that one. A lot going on at that remote. Had that on the calendar for a while, and I will definitely be skipping breakfast Friday morning so I can eat as much sissy cakes as possible. And some of those guys are going to be at the remote, right? Jasper and Malachi. Jasper and Malachi. Yes, they'll be there.
Starting point is 00:31:44 Do you know how happy Ryan's going to be that Jasper is there? Both my boys are there. Your sons. So Jasper and Malachi will be at the remote Friday. So a lot going on in Lexington on Friday. Jasper Malachi during the day, Willie Cash, Shannon at night. I would love to see that poster. Just with those guys and then there's Shannon going, hello.
Starting point is 00:32:07 Then Alex Blueground plays in Saturday night in Lexington. We're 10 roofs, Lexington Saturday. You're at 10 roof Saturday night? I might as well to stay in Lexington all weekend. Yeah. Oh, I may make a 10 roof appearance. What time do you play? Seven.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Seven till about 10.30, I think. Oh, the game's at 4, though. All right. I could do the post game show, though. Come on. True. Let's go. You know, if we win, I might go do the post game show outside 10th.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Wow. You should do that. If we lose, I'll come after. But that would be funny. All right. Well, that is an exciting weekend. might be social for the first time in a long time. The high school regionals start, well, I think one of them started,
Starting point is 00:32:51 but a lot are tonight, Ryan. Games all over the place. You and I are going to go with Mario. Drew, I haven't heard if you're going yet. Are you going to the 13th? I'm unable to go. I'll go to Middlesbrough, but can't make the game. All right, so that was supposed to be a surprise show, but well done.
Starting point is 00:33:06 Let me drop it. Oh, my bad. There we go. Did you get it? Yeah. Okay. It reminds me to take it out of the podcast. Take it out of the podcast.
Starting point is 00:33:17 All right. Ryan and I are going to the 13th region tournament on Wednesday night to see 13th region games. You excited about that, Ryan. We fell in love with the 13th region tournament a couple years ago and they let us do some color commentary and play-by-play down there. I love it. I love the fact of where it is at the arena, the Corbin Arena. You told me that Pineville even won the district for like the first time ever. Pineville hasn't played in the regional tournament since like, who knows?
Starting point is 00:33:42 They're in it in Bell County, and we're going to go both. How about that? So we will be in Corbyn Wednesday night. I like how they bring those big coal trucks out at the entrance for the players for Regent 13. Remember they'd run through those with the lights. They run through the coal trucks. It's a big setup. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:56 So we will be there Wednesday night. All right, let's go to Todd. Go ahead, Todd. Hey, man. I were just touching up on what you and you were talking about, having JQ back or Cam Williams. And, I mean, if I wouldn't anyone come back, it'd be the lottery pick. Jade and Quaiton, I mean, Cam Williams, I mean, our guards are playing
Starting point is 00:34:18 so good right now. It'd be nice to have more, but But we have four bigs. We have four bigs for two positions, and we really have three guards for three positions. I get that, but I mean, the less I see of Brandon Garrison, the better. Yeah, I mean, I know what you mean, but, like, we have really no consistent reserves in the back court. Don't you think having one would be?
Starting point is 00:34:42 be helpful? Yeah, you're right. I mean, let's just get them both back. All right. Shannon tells me that you call with fake names, Todd. He's accusing you of that. Is that true? The first time I called, the first time I called was the post game of Texas, and there was like
Starting point is 00:35:01 three Michaels. And I was like, well, I'm just going to say my middle name. So that's what I did. All right. Does that satisfy your question, Shannon? Well, I mean, he's not the only one. A lot of people seem to have identity crisis when they call in. Because the thing is, when people call, we can see your name.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Yeah, and I ask you what your name is, and it's like, oh. But we can see it. Yeah. Like, it comes up. I'm Fred. And then the name that comes up is Mike. I'm like, well, did you used to be Mike? Are you Fred?
Starting point is 00:35:29 Or who are you? Do you know who you are? Yes, I do. I'm putting 100 on Cash Daniels on Friday. See? I like that. Now, you're Todd, I'm on your side. I'll just come out and say my name's Todd.
Starting point is 00:35:42 I'm not really shunning. Let's go to Howie. Howie, go ahead to Howie. Yes, sir, Matt. I just wondered if you had any thoughts or ideas on when Mitch Vonhart might retire. I mean, things can happen. Maybe this week or next week? So, 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:36:07 Text machine is 772-774-5-254. I think what will be interesting whenever it is that Mitch Barnhart were to make a decision to leave. I think, Ryan, the real question is what comes next, right? I mean, to me, that's the question. Do you hire within? Would they already know who the person's going to be? Do you do a search around the country? To me, the day Mitch Barnhart leaves, and I think Mitch Barnhart has done an amazing job at Kentucky over the course of his career,
Starting point is 00:36:39 but the day he leaves, the main question to me is, okay, what's next? I think the day he leaves, you take a minute to celebrate what has been the longest serving AD in UK's history and a very successful one. And then you go, okay, but what's next? That to me is the most important question. Yeah, not just the longest AD in UK history. He's the longest AD currently in the South Eastern Conference. He's had unbelievable success.
Starting point is 00:37:05 That's a big chair to fill, whoever they go out and hire. You know, when Sam Newton left, they did hire with him in Larry Ivy. Then when Larry Ivy left, they went outside and got Mitch. So it seems like almost you need to bring somebody from the outside for a breath of fresh air a lot of times, but not this time. He's done a great job, getting set in the table.
Starting point is 00:37:21 What do you mean not this time? I think this time he's done such a great job set in the table. Maybe one of his people within would just be able to step in and continue what he's been able to do. That's what you would do. Yeah. Well, when that conversation comes, we'll talk about it. Let's go to Derek.
Starting point is 00:37:37 Go ahead, Derek. Hey, Matt. Just calling with the fact related to that thing last week with the Scotus. Dot net guy or whatever in the poker games. Yes. There's a movie called Molly's game. I've seen it. I've seen it.
Starting point is 00:37:54 Yeah. And Peter Parker, I guess, Toby McGuire, I guess he's one of the main characters. They're referencing in that movie. So I wonder if this guy played me role in that. But secondly, I was just going to ask, are you going to watch the World Baseball Classic? I think I will. I mean, I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:38:10 I never totally understand what the World Baseball Classic. Like some of the guys play. Some of them don't. But I do think when you get a big game, when you get like Japan versus the United States or the Dominican Republic versus the United States, I do find it very entertaining. And so, yeah, I'll probably watch it. I don't think any of the Reds are playing.
Starting point is 00:38:32 But, Drew, will you watch the World Baseball Classic? Yeah, if the Americans get in a big game, I will. Sometimes I come off as a baseball hater, but it's just the length of the season. Any playoffs or any meaningful game, Olympics, something like the World Baseball Classic, I'll absolutely tune in. Yeah. I'm
Starting point is 00:38:47 I've already looked. Like, the Reds are probably winning 110 games. Oh, really? Based off what? Well, I mean, the lineup. I mean, they're hitting. Oh, are they?
Starting point is 00:39:02 Matt McLean had two McBangs last yesterday. He needs to have have a rebound from last year. Yeah. Yeah. You're basing this off spring training. Oh, so spring training is crucial. Yeah. So you probably got those hits off a guy that was in double A ball. Yeah, but he hit it so hard.
Starting point is 00:39:20 Well, you know, this is the summer of Ellie. Oh, yeah. Leading into the, to the rise of Sal. Do you know what their win total is on draft kings? 108? No, you should definitely bet it if you think it's going to be 108. It's 81. So, I mean, you got a big cushion there.
Starting point is 00:39:39 That's a 500 season. Oh, over. We're winning. Dodgers need to watch out. They've got all kinds of guys. They've got Brady Singer. You've got to watch out for him. I've got all the bobblehead days.
Starting point is 00:39:55 They're having a Harry Potter day. I'm skipping that one. Stop overpaying for sunglasses. If you're tired of buying expensive sunglasses, only to lose or break them or worse, you don't even wear them. Shady race. Independent American-owned company started right. here in Kentucky, premium polarized shades for every activity.
Starting point is 00:40:11 Every member of the family can find their perfect pair. It is Shadyrays or Shadyrays.com. Go to check it out. Kentucky Company with the best sunglasses, Shady Rays. We'll take a break. Be right back. KS.I. Last night, a blown call changed the game.

Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different

So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey.
Starting point is 00:42:38 I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud. Starting point is 00:43:21 On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WMBA standout, Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you,
Starting point is 00:43:45 but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs, Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to
Starting point is 00:44:04 fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:44:27 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. We have some breaking news. Rani Na-na-na-na! There we go. It took a minute. Yes, it did. John Pelfrey has been dismissed as the coach of the Tennessee Tech basketball team.
Starting point is 00:44:48 They are the first team to make a change here in the college basketball season. They will not be their last. Sad to see that, Ryan. He's not done very well there. That is a very difficult job. But Pelfrey is out at Tennessee Tech. I haven't followed Tennessee Tech. I guess I assume they must have had a bad season.
Starting point is 00:45:06 But, you know, when he was at South Alabama, he was as a high. the name is anybody. Then he goes to Arkansas. Didn't have any success. Assistant coach again for a long time. Got this second chance to be a head coaching job. So he's running out of options, I think. I run out of time to maybe finally win a good head coaching job. Yeah. Sorry to see that.
Starting point is 00:45:23 I like John. But, you know, you got a win. And you're right. He did a great job to start his career. But Drew, since then, it really hasn't gone very well. You know, Kentucky beat them by 50 this year. Maybe some responsibility. Maybe. maybe a little bit on UK.
Starting point is 00:45:40 I doubt that was really the game that did him in. But yeah. It was cool. He got that moment to come back here at UK and have that, even though the season didn't going well for him. That's too bad. One person writes, Matt,
Starting point is 00:45:54 you and Shannon should know that you guys were the topic of the Southland group text yesterday. Oh, really? Someone admitted to listening, although everyone else said they didn't. And so everyone is wondering what you said even though they can't turn it on. Yeah, we may need to do, you know how in,
Starting point is 00:46:15 you know how Shannon, when we're in war in places, back in the Cold War, we would like send radio signals into Russia with our propaganda. Yeah, yeah. We should do that to the church you're saying. Yeah, I don't know how you do that though. How do we send like Morse code to the Southland church members about what's going on? Yeah. They could read the transcript of the show that would be the same, would it? That's listening. Oh, that's interesting. It's not, because everything on there said listen.
Starting point is 00:46:45 Yeah, if you go to the I-Hard app and go on there, you can read the transcript of the show. That's interesting. Yeah. I also heard through the Great Vine, the Southland Minister is a U of L fan. I've never booed a minister, but I think we should move on. Now, I'm sure he's a wonderful guy. But you think that could have something to do with it, Drew, going into Mars? Yeah, I got to be careful here.
Starting point is 00:47:10 I don't want to say anything inappropriate. But yeah, that does raise some concerns. Also tuning out a Kentucky show this time of year. Yes. With your Louisville leader, Fishy. I'm just saying. During Lent, I'm not saying. Speaking of Fisci during Lent, I walked by like five Catholic churches on my walk Friday night.
Starting point is 00:47:32 You want to talk about something they love. They're fish fries on Fridays during Lent. Those are parties. in Louisville. I walked by literally, maybe not five, but three or four, and they were Shannon. There were people everywhere. I'm not even Catholic. I go to the fish fries just to party with them. During Lent? Did you go this week? No, but I have in the past, pole tabs and beer and fish. Come on. Man. It's fun. I've never been, but they talk about it like at spring break. Yes, they do.
Starting point is 00:48:02 But what, like, is that, I'm for it. Like, have a good reason to have fun, but is that, does that Easter related. It's like let's do pull tabs. Was that in Isaiah? Did I not read that verse? Yeah, Jesus was big on the lottery back in the day. Love the lottery. Good gambler. Yeah, well, anyway, the fish looked good. I almost went in like... It's in the New Testament. You should look it up.
Starting point is 00:48:28 Well, I don't have that one, but I'm for it. The newest testament. Okay. Austin. Go ahead, Austin. Hey, Matt, can you hear me? Yes. Hey, I wanted to comment on the JQ potential return. And I just, I have a quick,
Starting point is 00:48:47 you know, a couple points I wanted to hit him. Quickly, quickly. Yeah, number one. So like, you got a guy and listen,
Starting point is 00:48:55 I'm all for it. If he wants to come in and contribute and help the team win, I'm all for it. But you've got a guy who theoretically hasn't done anything in what, month and a half, two months.
Starting point is 00:49:09 And then he comes into a game. game just out of nowhere and is expected to perform at a high level, right? And it's going to be against a really good team. So like, I'm with you. That's why I don't think it's a really good team. That's why I don't think it's going to be that big thing. What's your second thing real quick? Yeah. So like, you know, within that rotation, like you put him in and really it's just, it just needs to be for Malachi to get like a little break and then putting him back in because in the reality, he's just not going to be used to the defensive rotations. I agree with you.
Starting point is 00:49:42 I appreciate the call. That's why for me, Cam's a bigger deal because what he does is not as easily replicate. Let's go to Ben. Go ahead, Ben. Hey, Matt. So I just want to say with all the Jane Quentin's talk, I agree with the Cam Williams idea. But my question is, what's the chance that Jane Quatins could return next season for a while?
Starting point is 00:50:05 Zero. I would think zero. I would think zero. Really? He will get picked in the first round. and if he's already been injured once, Drew, I just don't know that you can risk it again. Would you?
Starting point is 00:50:18 No, no, no. And he slipped a little bit on like a mock draft, maybe two yesterday. But he's still in that lottery conversation, even if he's sliding a little bit. I mean, someone will definitely take him in the first round. He had a chance to go fourth or fifth. Now he might go 10th through 15th.
Starting point is 00:50:37 But I would be shocked if he got taken after that. You still take it. Yeah, if you're Jaden Quaidant, you still go, if you're 10 to 15, you slip a little bit, but you're still going to take that. That's what I would do. Let's go to Matt. Go ahead, Matt. Hey, guys. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:50:55 First time caller. Who I? I live in Louisiana, and I've got some friends that I work with or heading over to college station tonight, and I wondered if you got there taking their son for a birthday. Yes. I believe he's 12 or 13. And I wonder if you guys had any advice for some first-time fans going to their first game at college station. Well, first of all, first time, road game is the most fun if you win. And remember, if we win, if you go down to the next to the UK bench,
Starting point is 00:51:23 usually the team and the players will come out and greet the fans and you actually can get some pretty good access. So if we win, do that. As far as College Station, it is hard to park there. So make sure they get there early and there is a place that everybody goes. And you probably need to go early to get there. It's like burgers and barbecue. It's like the campus spot probably four or five blocks from the arena.
Starting point is 00:51:47 It'll be a lot of people, but the food is really good, and it goes quick, and I wish I could give you the name. Somebody will give it to me on the text machine, but somebody told me that place, and I highly recommend it. I can't, I can't, somebody will write it for me, but it is, and I appreciate the call. It can be hard to park there because it's on campus and it's kind of like hidden, we're not hidden, but it's just, it's not an easy place to get in and out of. So just be prepared to get there early and probably walk. People who have gone down there said Texas A&M fans are the best in the SEC. They are.
Starting point is 00:52:20 Yeah, they were good when I was there. And I was there, like I said, 22, I think. And it was a blast. 859-280-2287. We will take a break. Come back. Hour number two, a lot to get to, including what's the SEC tournament look like for Kentucky. Be right back.
