Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio.
859-280-2287.
Text machine 772-745254.
One person writes, Matt, I think you and Shannon are perfect for
relationship advice.
You all have zero divorces.
The number one cause of divorce is marriage.
Correct.
That's right.
You can't get divorced if you never get married.
That's exactly right.
Zero divorces.
That's right.
Between me, Shannon and Drew.
So like, I mean...
I've gotten a thousand guys.
Yeah.
Good job.
I know.
Billy yet.
Mario.
Although Billy is getting married, so.
But he's still good until August, right?
He can still give advice until August.
Then after that, we've got to cut them off.
But yeah.
I think it makes it makes complete sense.
I understand.
One person writes, Matt, I know when Arkansas wins, it's tough for you because everybody
retweets that video.
Do you root against them?
Yeah.
I mean, I don't hate them, but I root against them for sure.
I had to get Billy crap on the pre-show over.
saying I'm happy for Calipari winning. I'm not happy for Calipari winning the
SEC. Look, so there are different kinds of people with Kentucky fans with Arkansas.
So if you're a person who is like, it doesn't matter one way or the other, I can
appreciate that. They're not necessarily a rival. If you're somebody like me who wants to
see them lose, obviously I understand like that. I do want to see them lose because a, they're
SEC team that is in my opinion, someone that I just, I've always kind of not like them.
They're not on Tennessee levels, but they're close.
And then, you know, there's a personal part of it, which is not personal to Cal, but just
personal to the, I just get tired of looking at the Arkansas fans.
Like, the moment Arkansas wins a game like that, I know, like, I can't go on social media
for 48 hours because it's just going to be Arkansas fans yelling.
I do not understand the Kentucky fans that pull for Arkansas.
I know a couple fans that I'm actually friends with who actively like, it seems like now almost like Arkansas more than Kentucky.
I don't get that at all.
I don't get that.
I think that's actually kind of weird if you do that.
If you like them more, if you want to say, I mean, Billy says I'm happy for Cal, okay, I guess, if you want to be.
I mean, I understand people, I have good memories of him.
But there are, when I see our Kentucky fans like where going get them, Cal, that'll show them.
I mean, you live in Kentucky.
It would almost be like, you know, rooting against the United States just because you don't like who the current president is.
I mean, when the USA played the Dominican last night, I don't like our president.
I'm still rooting for the USA.
That's my team, you know.
And so I don't understand the I'm going to root for Arkansas.
and not the team that I'm a part of, Drew, it just doesn't make any sense to me.
That and whatever you think of Cal, when he kind of says, like, I'm moving the headquarters,
you don't want Kentucky to fall off because then it really does look like it was all Cal.
You want Kentucky to play well and say, no, it wasn't just you.
You were obviously a big part of it, but Kentucky was, it's Kentucky.
So when he goes and has success, it kind of adds some value to his argument there,
or that line he was saying when he first left.
Cal's always been in his best, Ryan, when he has a great point guard.
even the teams here.
You go look at the really great teams.
We had wall night.
2012 is a little bit of an exception.
Teague was good, but that was, I mean, Anthony Davis was a special guy.
But then you go with Tyler Ullis, Fox.
I mean, when he has the point guard, he's really good.
And he's got the point.
He's got him now this year.
So I'm not surprised they're good.
But I don't understand a Kentucky fan rooting for him.
I just don't.
So that you can say what?
I don't like Mitch or it was Matt Jones's fault.
Like, what does that a conundee?
You're just cutting off your nose to spite your face.
And for all those fans you're talking about, the Kentucky fans are kind of pulling for
Arkansas.
Their argument is right now, that could have been our roster.
That could have been our team.
It could have been.
It could have been.
I understand.
But so what?
It's not.
I mean, I get, well, first of all, I don't know if it could have been.
He would have gotten a Cuff here, but like Trayvon Brazil wouldn't have been here.
I mean, you know, it wouldn't going to be the same team.
But, okay.
He's not here.
Do you, Shannon, do you spill your days crying?
over spilled milk? Nope. Not one time. You clean up the milk and move on. You move on. And the
issue for me now is, is Mark Pope the right guy? It's not, it could have been Cal. There's nothing
worse than sitting. Have you guys ever had a friend that cries over an X for years?
I have. Oh, yeah. You at some point have to go, okay, hey, time's not returning. You got to move on.
And so that's kind of, you know, that's how I'm about it.
And then, of course, you get the people who will say, Shannon, the, uh, are you
rearing him off my yet.
Yeah, it's your fault.
You specifically.
You weigh, you way, overestimate my power.
Right now, we can't even get our whole group credentialed at the SEC tournament.
Amen.
That's true.
All right.
I don't get the.
the power to run coaches off.
We only got two of the four credentials at the SEC tournament.
But also, let me just throw another little note on this.
If you have a coach who is so worried about a radio host that they can't,
then they can't coach here, right?
I mean, you can't, you can't.
By the way, I don't believe Cal's that guy.
But if you do, then you can't coach here.
Because if I don't, if I'm not here, somebody else will be.
And I'll go ahead and tell you, I don't know if people have looked at the Kentucky media landscape,
but there's a lot of people that are a lot harsher than I am.
I would argue, especially in today's, I mean, Jerry Tipton was a reporter that won a Pulitzer Prize,
Ryan, for bringing down Kentucky basketball.
Yep.
This idea that a dude on the radio who wants Kentucky to win every game is running a coach off is just ludicrous.
But some people still hang it.
Hang on to it.
I don't get near the fan backlash that you get,
but the Arkansas fan somehow found me
and I was getting a bunch of stuff.
So I started messing with them yesterday.
I was sending out these...
Oh, no.
What did you do?
I sent out like a tweet said something like,
what's the common denominator between Patino and Calo Perry?
Kentucky beat both of them.
And all their heads were exploded.
Just started something like that.
We losing?
You thought you got them with that?
I did.
I just paused.
Were you just like,
oh, burn Arkansas fan?
And I got you.
I just wanted to mess with a little bit and just sit back and just watch it every their heads explode.
Yeah.
Oh my God.
Yes.
Their heads did explode?
Yes.
Yes.
Medically impossible, but it happened.
Wow.
I didn't know.
So they don't even exist anymore.
Ryan said or exploded.
Yeah.
Did Ryan slay them?
I think he did.
Slay them.
I don't know.
Did Ryan slay them?
I don't know.
Slade.
I think he slayed.
What do you make of it?
Because, Drew, you get some of it too.
I mean, I get more of it than anyone.
But you probably get the same.
get the second most of, you know, you ran them off.
What do you say to that?
I'm completely unbothered by it because their arguments are usually wrong.
Like people saying we would have his team, do you all remember he tried to raise a million
in NIL and got to 48,000?
Where's that money, by the way?
People weren't giving him 22 million here.
Like, I feel like a lot of people have rewritten the last few years of his time here at Kentucky.
Part of the problem that we weren't good is he wasn't getting those guards.
We were getting the severe wheelers instead of the Darius A Cuffs.
he was five and six in the SEC tournament when he left here had five losses in the last six tournament games when he left here also i want to chime to this earlier i got to get this out i am not listening to bruiser flint who got here in the year 2020 talking about wronging people in lexington they didn't win anything when he was here so when he's talking about the fans being sad when he was here but you got here in 2020 and didn't get out of the first weekend of the tournament and didn't see the weekend in national so i don't want to hear anything about who's wrong and who from some of that crew i totally agree you know who did cal
wrong, Bruiser Flint.
You got paid over half a million
to not win here.
Part of the problem was his assistants were
worthless for the last few years.
Okay? That is,
that's part of the problem. At his
peak, when he had John Robic
and Kenny Payne and all those guys in Orlando
Rowland, Dwayne Peavy,
they were a net positive. By the end,
it was just Bruiser Flint hanging out
at Jeff Rubies. Junie's gun.
So if you think
anybody did Cal wrong, Brewser
look in the mirror. You're the one that did him wrong because you didn't help. You took a spot
of somebody that could have worked. And that's all I have to say about that. I brought him up,
not to shoot him, but all these comments were getting yesterday, these are not, it's not real life.
When you're telling me, Cal would have done this, Cal would have done that, he had chances to do that.
That's why it was over here because he wasn't doing that. So a lot of this stuff that was on
Twitter yesterday, I just kind of rolled my eyes at it and be like, whatever fantasy land you
want to live in, good for you. But the rest of us are moving on in the real world.
before that call, by the way.
One person also writes, Matt, I don't think your mechanical bull ride.
No.
Oh, my.
Let's please talk about this.
Give us a chance.
I thought it was really good.
I thought it was really weak.
It was so weak.
It had it on like kitty level.
Like 1.5.
They wouldn't put it.
No, they had it on two.
It was between two and three.
They would not put it higher than that unless like you, you know, you were able to
really good. And I thought I did really well, Shannon, didn't you? Oh my goodness. What were you doing
grabbing the bull's butt? You can't do that. You can't grab the... Says who? Are you not allowed to
grab the butt when you do it? Do you know the official rules of Roneo? Have you ever seen a guy
get up on a bull and grab a butt? You're supposed to hold on with one hand. I try not to look at that level of
interaction. You bailed out. You bailed out. Why did you bail? No, actually I did. I did. I did not bail.
I was about to fall, and then rather than get my, I was, I was on my way to fall.
People think I, like, bailed.
I didn't bail.
I was about to fall.
And then I kind of, I did kind of move my leg like, I'm about to fall.
I don't want to fall head first.
It was the worst dismount ever.
Bailing.
Is that what you called that?
I thought it was really good.
I mean, I heard a lot, I heard from a lot of people that talked of really good.
I will give you credit.
You got up and did it.
Comment section was rough.
Yeah.
It was.
Let me ask you a question.
What did people want?
Did they think I was going to be good at it?
Did anyone out there think I would be good at it?
No.
No.
You know, four, you know, four.
Gangly, unathletting.
Did you, at first, I don't say, get stopped.
That's not necessary.
I don't think anybody thought I was going to be good at it.
No.
They thought you got last longer.
Did people just want to see me get hurt?
Like, what did they want?
Effort.
you were fatigued you were fatigued that was the third game i will say what you did with your
off hand to that bull would have made it a wild ride with a real bull you're not supposed to place your
hand there a real bull would have thrown you off real quick with that hand placement he would
have bucked even more yeah that's probably true the hand doesn't go there the problem was i think
my friend cori went first yes and he did that and i was like oh that's a good idea yeah
Corey did do it before you.
So Ryan, I would blame Corey for this whole thing.
Totally.
Yeah, but you didn't bail.
You kind of just gangly, lazily fell off.
Stop with the gangly.
I don't think you need to add gangly to the phrase.
You only have to go eight seconds.
You weren't too far off.
You made it 1.8.
I didn't want to do it.
I didn't want to do it.
I really didn't want to get hurt because I knew I had a big weekend ahead.
And I don't know.
I heard a lot of people say,
It was really good.
I don't know if I did.
No, no effect it was true.
Who's up next?
Mike.
Mike, go ahead, Mike.
Mark Pope.
I'm not trying to be mean, but what I mean by that is like at Florida game,
they played exactly the way they had to play for us for win.
And, you know, he's made us furious over the first two years with his substitution
pattern.
Why not pull a guy out when he's taking a dumb shot that left him back in?
You know, because I feel like,
you knew they were going to win the rebound in battle.
So, of course, they've got more possessions.
If you take dumb shots, that's just the same as turnover, man.
And they stood around.
And we lost him.
He lost him.
He's right about that.
He's right about the first part of that, Drew.
Florida did play in a way that would give us a chance.
We just couldn't seize it and take advantage.
Yeah, Florida, I honestly, the way that game started,
where we were up 12, 4, you know, I think we scored 4.
no, we didn't score first because they never led.
But they got that early gap.
And I'm like, oh, God, they're going to run us out.
But when Kentucky tightened, it was pretty close to the rest of the game.
Florida did not play off well offensively.
Kentucky just could not make threes.
At one point in the second half, only Diabate had made threes.
He was two for two and the rest of the team was 0 for 12.
And even if you're defending Florida well, if you're shooting like that,
you're still not going to have a chance.
And if they had just made a few more shots, that could have been a different story.
The door was open there.
Totally agree.
Now, part of it was because they were three for 20 from three.
So, I mean, both teams, it was a tough game to watch.
He was brutal.
Oh, I said next to the guy who had no dog in the fight, he was just leaning over like,
this is the worst basketball game I've ever seen.
It was an awful game.
Another foul.
Another foul.
They went like 10 minutes with only one field goal.
So, I mean, you had a chance.
We just didn't play well enough to do it.
In Kentucky right now, you can't find affordable child care or place to live.
You can't get a job.
And we're short tens of thousands of children.
child care spots, and nearly 97% of local leaders says housing is an issue in their community.
Without both, the economy in Kentucky will struggle. Add your name as a way of telling legislators in
Frankfurt fix the basics, child care and housing. Kentucky's workforce can then actually work.
It's Kentucky Chamber. Go to Opportunity Startshere.com. That's Opportunity Startshere.com.
We'll talk more about this. And the women's bracket is out. Kentucky playing very close by.
We'll deal with that. Right for this on KSR.

Absolutely.

Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect.
We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.
He felt destined for greatness.
So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back.

The largest tax investigation in American history.

It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,

Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

A lot of messages about the bull ride on the text machine.
One person writes, Matt, had you head on the cowboy hat,
would have had to check to see if it was you or Chris Ladoo.
Thank you very much.
Nobody knows who Chris Ladoo is.
I don't know.
Who is that?
He's the guy.
I think he used to be a bull rider.
Then he had a country song that was really big.
I can't remember what it is.
Garth Brooks references.
No, Garth Brooks references him in a song.
Worn out tape of Chris Lidu.
Remember that?
Sure.
There's a song.
Look up their lyrics, Shan.
There's a song where he goes,
worn out tape of Chris Ladoo.
I can't remember what it is.
But I think he was a bull rider
and a country music singer.
And I can see why you would have thought that was me.
One person writes, Matt, I appreciate that you do the ads
for the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center and getting early checking,
but I don't feel like you had to check that part of the bull
for early checking.
That's not nice.
That's not nice.
Why would they say that?
You do need a real.
screening, but I don't know that I wasn't what I was trying to do.
They do say you want to get to know your bull before you ride it, but you know, maybe not
that well.
You could at least put a rubber glove on first.
It's just not very nice.
Do you find that song?
What's the song?
We're not much too young to feel this damn old.
Yeah.
You can play that.
And then I can't remember what the Chris Ladoo had one.
I know he had one big hit.
I'm fairly sure.
I'll find it for you.
in that 90s country thing.
One person writes, Matt, I lasted longer on a mechanical bull blacked out at my senior year
sorority bar crawl with two other girls on the bull than you did.
Like I said, it was like a kitty level.
It's barely moving.
I did have a couple of women write me and say they found me drew much less attractive
after being on that bull.
So I don't think that one's going to go anywhere on the profiles.
You did follow through with your promise.
I did.
I did.
The UK baseball team swept Alabama.
How about that?
Good start to SEC play.
Three and O against an Alabama team that was kind of supposed to be middle of the pack of the SEC.
So that's a good start, Ryan, for UK baseball.
Yeah, to sweep them right out of the gate like that, a team that was ranked.
So now they're up to number 15 in the rankings this week that just came out.
So off to a hot start for UK baseball.
They get up to 15?
Yeah.
The two teams they lost to were like, what, Evansville and was it
Moorhead or Murray?
Yeah, it was random.
But they really didn't play anybody in the non-conference.
But beating Alabama, Drew, that's a great start for the team.
Yeah, a huge win.
They've won 13 in a row.
Longest in the nation, I think.
Yeah.
I mean, Moorhead got you on opening day and you had the other one you slipped up on.
But otherwise, they've turned a corner.
Tyler Bell being back huge.
And then Nate Harris pitched six squirrels.
sitting yesterday. So they had a big Sunday.
The women's team is a five-seed.
They did not get to host. A little controversial in women's basketball land.
I looked at a lot of the national commentators felt like Kentucky should host.
They will go to West Virginia.
They play James Madison where Kenny Brooks used to be the coach.
And then if they win, they would play West Virginia in a road game.
I think that's a lot of people had projected Kentucky.
to play West Virginia to be the four and West Virginia to five, but the games being Lexington.
Instead, the games is in Morgan Town, so they will have to win a road game, Ryan, assuming they can get past James Madison in the first.
Yeah, I feel like UK hoops. They feel like they kind of got, you know, looked over a little bit and kind of got the hosed a little bit of thinking they were going to host, especially if they won a couple games in the SEC tournament.
But Kenny Brooks, he's in the James Madison Hall of Fame. He's their winningest coach ever.
So it's a good little storyline, I think, for that opening round matchup.
Yeah, hopefully we will do more about that game as we get closer.
I believe that game will be Saturday.
So Kentucky, the game is the first game on Friday.
It is at 1215 on Friday.
We will have the game at KS Bar a weird time.
It is the first time since 2011, Kentucky or Duke hasn't played one of the primetime CBS night sessions.
Now, I find a lot, you know, everybody says, they continue to say,
oh, Kentucky, we're not marquee anymore.
It is completely fair to question Kentucky's success over the last few years, et cetera.
But I did find this interesting.
CBS, the way they broadcast games is always fascinating to me.
They, when they're doing the Thursday, Friday of the NCAA tournament,
they will always put the games that are on CBS.
They put on CBS the ones they feel like will rate the best.
And over the years, they've done kind of the same thing.
They would put either Kentucky or Duke in the first session in the day or either Kentucky or Duke at night.
And that has been the case forever.
Now, Kentucky, Duke will be in the first session on Thursday, in the early things on CBS.
We will be in the early session on Friday.
Kansas gets a night session and then Michigan gets a.
night session. But the reason I think that's important is, even in a year that has been so
frustrating for us, and even in a year where we go, oh, Kentucky basketball is slipping,
even then Kentucky against Santa Clara is still one of the four sessions chosen for CBS.
And that has been that way, we have been on a CBS session. I think it's 14 of the last
15 years.
So I do think that's important as it feels like sometimes we need to rebuild the Kentucky
fan-based confidence.
Even in our bad year, they're like, you know what?
When it comes time to who we're putting on CBS, Drew, we're putting the Kentucky Wildcats
and we're putting the Duke Blue Devils and they do it every single year.
Yep.
We're still in the conversation and nationally.
It might be the case that people want to watch us lose, but all it matters is that people are
watching.
It's still one of the hot brands in college basketball.
It's a little early. I know people hate it's during work hours, but Pope's big on routine.
I mean, we just played three early games in the SEC tournament.
And then you've got Santa Clara, their bodies are 915 for them.
So I don't hate the spot.
Yeah. And there's something good, Shannon, about you win the early game.
And then you can watch the rest games in the night and not be stressed.
There you go. Yep. You get that out of the way.
And then you just get to watch all the games and hang out.
That's the best part about it.
This is it.
Worn out tape of Chris Lidoo.
We'll take a break.
Barry Beck's KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio
presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
What is this?
This is Chris Ladoo, the Cowboys hat.
Wow. This is not the one I was thinking of.
Oh.
This one's got 15 million views, so I thought this was the one.
That one's got 15 million views?
Yeah.
Wow.
Yeah.
I've never heard this.
So this is Chris Ladoo.
Yeah.
Yeah, this is terrible.
I remember the one I was thinking about, Cadillac Ranch.
Okay.
That was the one.
We can play that in the next segment.
I think that was, that's a better one.
This is my new favorite song.
Do you like this one?
She is laughing the whole time he's playing this.
It sounds kind of awful, but that's all right.
Yeah, it is.
You're very happy about this song.
It makes me smile.
20.
I don't know.
one person writes Matt when I saw your mechanical bull video I could have sworn it was
Luke Perry in 8 in seconds you know it wasn't that great no I don't know if that was
what they said that's what they said it's right here on the uh it's right here on the
tech machine somebody said it was shelvin from big bang theory okay I'd stop with you you and
you're I don't want to hear from you our text machine says something different yeah I saw you
chip ice we have some breaking news oh runy-n-n-na-na-na
Alabama Guard, Aidan Holloway, who's the team's leading score,
was arrested this morning by Tuscaloosa Police in charge with first-degree possession of marijuana
with over a pound of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp.
What does that mean?
I don't know.
I've never heard that.
A tax stamp.
I don't know what that means.
A pound of marijuana.
Shaden, you're my go-to marijuana expert.
Is that a lot?
Yeah, that's a lot.
that's intent to distribute.
Like how many people does a pound of marijuana suffice?
Depends on if we're talking like a moral person.
If everybody was smoking once, yeah, if everybody was smoking once, how many people does a pound
of marijuana do?
That would last us for a year.
You'd have quite a bit.
So we've heard.
So we've heard.
Yeah, allegedly, if you smoked it every day, that probably would last you a year.
A pound is a lot.
That's a lot.
That's a distributable amount, you're saying.
Look, I don't deal in that business, but allegedly, I'm not judging.
I'm just asking you how much it is.
I feel like that's a lot.
A pound is a lot.
All right.
And failure to affix a tax stamp.
Drew, look that up.
I have no, even with my law background, I've never, I don't know what that means.
A tax stamp.
Is that on the drugs?
I'm guessing it's like a state thing.
And if you have so much, you need to prove that it's, you know, for medical reasons.
or whatever you're doing.
Is marijuana legal in Alabama?
I would have been surprised if it was.
I didn't think he's trying to Google that on the fly.
But I'm guessing it somehow makes your bag of weed legal.
Whatever you're doing.
So now, do you not play him in the SEC and the NCAA tournament?
I mean, Nate Oates has shown with the one guy that he would play him no matter what.
You think they play him in the first game against Hofstra the Pride?
Maybe they sit him in that game just because he's.
think you should handle hostry without him? What's going to change between that game and the next one?
I mean, he was arrested for first degree possession. That's not, I don't know.
Here's a little more insight on your marijuana amount.
Okay. Please, please give it to me.
A single pound can produce over 1,000 joints.
Oh, my goodness. So when I said that the four of us could probably smoke all year on it, we'd probably be right.
I mean, I could agree with my.
thousand. So that is
a lot then. And that's not
just guessing, you wouldn't say
that's a personal use amount
of marijuana. No. No, no.
God around with a pound. Maybe in for the whole team.
Here's the thing. I mean, these guys are getting paid money.
Why are you doing that? Why do you need
to make more money? Why do you need a side hustle
of selling marijuana? Well, that's true. I mean, you can say, well,
why are you smoking? It may just because he likes
it. But why are you, there's no need to
if you're Aiden Holloway, I don't know what his NIL
is, but it's probably enough to not need to sell
weed on the side on the street corner.
No. And if you are, at least put your tax sticker on it for Friday out loud.
I mean, what are we doing here?
Fix it. That's the real outrage, Shannon. No tax stamp. I always affix my tax stamp.
Especially when I'm driving up with a pound of marijuana.
When Shannon has a pound of marijuana, he goes in, puts two tax stamps on it.
Sometimes three.
Who's up next? Rees.
Reese, go ahead, Reese.
Hey, man, I wanted to stick with this Calipari divorce analogy.
Kentucky's obviously a 10 out of 10 program,
and Cal cheated on us with a lesser program
and paid us $35 million to get out of the buyout.
And his hair plugs and going to the gym
is getting a top three-point guard that he's ever had
and starting Malik Thomas over DJ Wagner,
and he's still a four-seed.
So I don't think it's fair to say that we lost the divorce.
I think even if we settled for a youth pastor
that's not exactly doing it for us,
we can move on eventually and not have to pay that buyout.
Did you say a youth pastor?
He did.
He did.
It's not very nice.
I don't think your analogy is terribly wrong, though, on the cow part.
I appreciate the call.
I mean, Drew's right.
We both, I remember Drew and I both saying when this happened,
he will have another run at Arkansas.
He just will.
He's too good of a coach.
I mean, no one, one thing I've never said is that he can't coach.
I've always taken up for his coaching.
I think he makes boneheaded decisions.
I will note, I mean, Old Miss was the 15 seed, Drew,
and they almost lost.
and they almost blew it in class didn't foul up three like all the things that they do
they almost did it again but but they did win and he deserves the spoils for that he does
and yesterday listen my team had already been home for two days i'm not hating there and i'm not
but they had uh brazil go four for five from three wagner went three for three if those guys
do that they'll beat anybody acuff yeah he shows up every night he's unbelievable but his
Cal's secondary players played out of their minds on Sunday.
I think that also really helped him get over Vandy.
And that takes them to another level if those guys can do it consistently,
but I don't think they can.
If they shoot 14 of 24 from 3, which is what they were at one point,
I don't know what they finished.
Then they're going to win it at all.
I mean, like, that's an amazing.
I don't care who shoots 14 for 24 from 3.
That's a, you know, that's a great amount.
And what are you going to do?
Who's next?
Mark.
Mark, go ahead, Mark.
Hey, what's going on, Matt?
Hey, I'm one of those kind of crazy people that I'm a UK alumnus.
I'm a big fan.
But actually right now, I'm taking a hiatus away from the cats for, I'm going to say three years because smart poke won't make a pass next year.
And I'm going to tell you the reason why I'm doing this.
I actually think we needed more of a reset between coach and fan relationship.
And Kyle had shut it down.
The divorce was needed.
Cal had shut it down.
He was just doing things to piss off the fans right now.
Yesterday what he was saying, Al doesn't say anything.
without knowing who he's affecting.
And I'm going to tell you the reason why I feel, and I think the fans
cut in my way, I look at getting what they deserve.
They're trying to sell Mark Pope to us, and he kind of came in with the Jim Jones,
drank the Kool-Aid, hey, we're going to get name on the front of the jersey.
We want to the number nine banners, all this.
He just went right about one thing.
He did get his number nine.
He got the number nine seed in the SEC kernel.
But you're talking about...
Let me ask you a question.
Let me ask you a question.
When you say you're taking a hiatus from the fan from the game, what do you mean?
I mean, like, clearly you're listening to the show.
I don't hear of.
I don't.
I don't.
I love the show.
I love the show.
I'm taking from Kentucky basketball.
They can't, right now this year, they can't lose enough for me.
Because I want, I want the fans to see kind of realize that, hey, things weren't as bad as we really thought.
Granted, hell has shut a game.
Well, no, that doesn't make sense.
Hang on just a second.
That doesn't make sense to me.
Because if you, I don't understand how you can have the people.
position that it was time for Cal to go, but the fans need to be punished for not realizing
what they had.
Those two things don't work for me.
I think they do, though.
I think they do.
The simple fact, it doesn't matter.
And it's easy.
People say he went so many years.
That is true.
But this guy did give a lot to this program.
Now we got a guy now who's a stake well-tillsill.
But you agree that, but you agree that it was time for him to go.
he got tired of everyday Joe's or basketball
Bennies, as he called,
tell him to tell him what he thinks.
And the man is a Hall of Famer.
I mean, you can see what you want to say about.
Okay, but wait a minute.
Now, you keep saying inconsistent things, though.
You're right, there were basketball bitties telling him.
But you yourself, just two minutes ago, say he had shut it down and was not trying.
Didn't fans have a reason?
Isn't it reasonable to complain about that?
That is reasonable.
But part of the reason is he didn't get any support.
They cut his legs out from money also.
True?
Well, no.
First of all, when you say support, hang on just a second.
When you say support, there are two different kinds of support.
There's the support that comes from the university,
and I think there were some reasonable complaints that some of that wasn't there.
But part of it was part of the head coach's job is to have relationships and to be able to get donors involved.
And in the last few years, Cal refused to do that.
That's on him.
That's really not the administration.
He can cow down.
He didn't cow down to people.
And he didn't kiss the ring of the crafts and all of the people.
When you say cal down, it's not, forget about, listen, everybody always focuses on the crafts.
And the crafts, you know, you don't have to, like the crafts, you don't have to talk to, like, I politically couldn't be more different from him.
But as people, the crafts give more to Kentucky than any one.
All right.
And we'll always, but they're not the only ones.
Hang on.
They're not the only ones.
Cal had lost donors all up and down the board.
Everybody focuses on two people, and I really don't think that's fair to them.
He had lost donors all up and down the board.
Right.
I see what you're saying.
Hey, can I get one more thing, and I'll leave you alone in this.
We talked about – and one of the big things we complained about Cal,
modern offense, it's amazing when you have good players, how modern your offense look.
Artisals average in 90 a game, shooting like 39% from 3% percent.
We never would have saw that here at Kentucky
because he wasn't going to get the support
because he wasn't going to get all the other players
that he needs to come up behind the age.
You got to stop with the support.
Calipari was losing in these games
before NIL even existed.
Okay?
Like Calipari was, we went 13 and
we went whatever it was, 13 and 19
or whatever our record was during COVID
before NIO and before the portal.
So I just don't even want to hear that.
It was crazy then though, Matt.
Duke was terrible that year too.
I mean, everybody, I mean, it was crazy that you
I appreciate the call.
I will say, and I appreciate you listen to the show, and that's good.
But that mindset is one I do not understand.
This idea of I want to teach the UK fans a lesson.
You are a UK fan.
I'm going to use a political analogy.
I get really mad when my fellow Democrats want bad things to happen to the U.S.
because they don't like Trump.
That doesn't help us.
Like that doesn't.
Why would you want that?
You shouldn't want that.
You should want us to do well, even if you don't like the guy.
Same thing with Kentucky.
Like, do you, how could you not want us to succeed to teach us a lesson?
Like, I'm not in school.
I don't need to be a tall lesson.
I want to win.
I don't, I don't get that.
And he's called many times.
He's a good guy, but I don't get that.

He must have had the script today, Shannon.
He was ready.
He was ready.
It's March.
Normally, he's like, oh, where was I going to look right here?
He had it this time.
I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Okay.
Turn him at form.
I did have a request.
Somebody came up to me in Nashville and said,
can you ask Ryan to please get new jokes?
So maybe you should get like a joke book.
And stop cussing.
Why don't we find him a joke book?
Yeah.
Just five new jokes and stop cussing.
And no more sex talk.
That's what I'm asking for from Ryan, at least through April.
Inconsistency.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise.

From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down,
give you context and ask the questions everybody wants answered.

I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across.
When Jacob met Levant this went to a billion dollar fraud.

I do like this song, Shad, right?
This is like,
You have been tired and a bear.
Sounds familiar, but I don't know if I've ever heard this one.
home at the Cadillac Ranch.
You don't know this one.
I don't think I know it.
I remember this one.
I don't think it got big.
But maybe when Garth sang that song that mentioned him,
then this kind of reappeared.
Yeah.
Garth mentioned you.
You got to put out a song after that.
I mean, that was when Garth was like Garth.
You know, I mean, massive.
This very rarely happens.
But a text message came on the text machine that made me giggle the entire break.
Shannon was like, what are you giggling?
I just hear all I get here is you laughing.
What's going on over there?
So 859-49-492 had a text message where he says,
Matt, you're saying if everyone is smoking one,
how much does a pound of marijuana do is one of the funniest things you've ever said accidentally?
That does sound like the least personally.
That sounds like the nerdiest thing a person could say.
If everyone smokes one marijuana,
how much
what was the quote
how much does a pound do
I don't really
that's fair
that's not a very
reminds me of
a 40 year old virgin
he says how many pots
have you smoking
that is like a how many pots
have you smoking
I'm not
how many pots
I'm not really a drug person
so I can't
I have to rely on my experts
which
on this show
that's an expert
All of you are more expert than me.
Not me.
Like everyone involved with this show, except I don't know what Billy's situation is, but all the rest of them.
Ryan, that's not true either.
Oh, it is definitely true.
I've been to Denver with you.
And then that's like the one of two times I've ever took a gummy.
Gumby barrel of lemon.
Well, that's two more than me.
So there you go.
So there you go.
What are you guys cops?
What are we talking about here?
Something we've got to tell that Denver story.
That's funny.
Well, that one's...
Your tolerance was impressive.
Shannon has to prove that.
We have two really good...
Vegas and Diver's story.
Yeah.
The singers,
Josh Hopkins short film,
won the Oscar last night.
How about that?
Nice. KSR.
I say Josh Hopkins.
Josh is very big on like,
I just had, like, I was just like at one of the producers,
not...
But still, he should claim it.
And it tied with that.
French people kissing saliva movie, right?
They, it was only the seventh tie in Oscars history.
So two different things, one, because it was a tie.
Do you think they should have a tiebreaker if two got the same amount of votes?
And there's like 4,000 people that vote, and the fact it ends in a tie is pretty incredible.
So we're going to have a-
I don't even know what, which, yeah, I don't think you could have a tiebreaker really,
because then you'd have to tell people that there were the two that tied and then
why drew with the other three people show up, right?
Right. So I think you just give it a tie. So congrats to the singers on Netflix.
Yeah. Congrats to Josh, who wrote, produced, and singing it. I think he even ran the camera.
Can't wait for you get your trophy. Way to go, Josh. No, we all talked about it a lot.
You know, he recommended it. It really was really good. I hope people listen to us and watch it.
It's only 20 minutes. It's 20 minutes. Everybody's got 20 minutes in them.
And Channon, did you ever watch it? No, but I'm going to. I've got to go back and watch it.
Really good. It's 20 minutes.
And now it's an Oscar winner.
And congrats and congrats to the French people with saliva as well.
Who's up next?
Just go to Terry.
Terry, go ahead, Terry.
I'll piggyback a little bit after something you said in the opening of the first hour.
What drives me crazy about our fan bases, they're going to be worried about Santa
Claire.
They're going to be worried because they can hit some threes.
I've seen him play several times.
They're like anybody else.
They'll get no credit when we win.
And they'll get no credit when they win, yes.
No, not so much that.
Let's say Santa Clara wins.
Oh, Post's got to go.
You can't lose the Santa Clara.
We're Kentucky.
I mean, that's the mindset that they have.
Now, I will say, yeah, Iowa State's good.
I get it.
But I don't take Santa Clara for granted.
If we were playing Doss, I'd be worried.
But if we get by them, Iowa State's not Michigan.
That can be beat.
I mean, I've seen them play bad.
But I will say one thing, I'll let you.
go as far as our run being long.
Oh, we can't have another game like you had against Florida, or we're done.
I'll hang up and listen.
Totally agree.
I think everything you just said is 100% accurate.
We should beat Santa Clara.
And if we don't, it's a failure.
But Iowa State can be beaten.
We're not going to be favored, and we shouldn't be.
But they can be beaten.
They are not Arizona.
They are not Duke.
They are not Michigan.
They are a beatable team.
And then Virginia and Tennessee, if we were to get to the next round,
They are beatable.
We got a chance to have beatable teams, which is what I wanted.
And now you actually have to go and do it.
