Starting point is 00:02:56 It is game day, ladies and gentlemen. Kentucky and Santa Clara, the NCAA tournament, tips off this morning as the cats get started on their journey. Why not? Starting point is 00:03:40 depending on where you are. But we are excited this morning. Katz with an early tip-off in a big game. Ryan, we spent all day watching games yesterday. We spent all day talking brackets. We just looked at the status of all of our brackets here. right now and now it's time for Kentucky to actually play. When I woke up this morning, when I got in the shower,
Starting point is 00:04:03 and it kind of hit me like, wait a minute, this is it. It starts for us right now. We've been, like you said, watching everybody else play. Now it's time to put our uniform on and go out and play. Yeah, by the time you get home from work today, for those of you that maybe are either on your commute or just got in, unless you're skipping work to watch the game, which you should be. Why not?
Starting point is 00:04:22 I mean, I can't imagine what you're doing this afternoon that's better. But unless you're doing that, when you get in your car to go home today, Kentucky will either be in the round of 32 or the season will be over. Like we're in that mode. Yes. And it's exciting. Yesterday we spent most of the day at the arena. Right. Ryan and I got there right after UK finished practicing because we were doing the show.
Starting point is 00:04:50 But then we watched, I guess, some of Iowa State, Tennessee State, Purdue. Queens. All those schools were right there, and we got to watch them do whatever it is they do. I bought a $6 chocolate chip cookie. He's really mad about that, Shannon. The chocolate chip cookie was $6. But part of me wants to go, like, this is what, when you buy things at sporting events, they cost too much. That's part of it.
Starting point is 00:05:17 It's a syntax, Ryan. Yeah, it's a syntax. That's exactly right. Any chocolate chip cookie over $3 that blows my mind. But you also understand you didn't have to pay for it. Yeah, the fact that you bought it, I mean, it kind of says that it's not. You didn't have to get it. That's the market for it then.
Starting point is 00:05:33 The thing was, I will say this. I didn't know they were $6, Shannon. And I just took one and walked away. Oh, wow. Well, five years ago. Quickly. Okay. I need to take a little moral high ground.
Starting point is 00:05:45 All right. Normally the media food doesn't cost money. Okay. And apparently it is on the house the rest of the week. But it was just the first day. But I didn't know because normally we've never had to pay. By the way, I've always thought it was weird that the media got free food. My entire life, I've been like, why do they give us food?
Starting point is 00:06:05 So I actually am one of the people not complaining about this. But I walk over and there are cookies and sodas. And I was like, oh, okay. And it looked like a big nice chocolate chip cookie. Big knife. So, Shannon, I took the cookie and I took the soda and I sat down. And an hour later, Ryan comes over. and goes, can you believe they charge $6 for this chocolate chip cookie that I got?
Starting point is 00:06:29 And I went, well, he didn't charge me. We're all looking at you. Like, what? And he said, how did they not charge? And then I realized that there was a guy there to pay, and I just walked past him and didn't know. He doesn't care. And he clearly didn't care. So now I have a moral quandary.
Starting point is 00:06:44 Right. I already got the cookie. You already ate it. But I'm probably on video having stolen a cookie. The cookie monster came in. I was the cookie monster. So I walked back and I looked at the guy and said, I took a cookie. I didn't know that we charged.
Starting point is 00:07:02 Then he goes, well, we do charge. And I was like, all right, here's $6. So I went back and paid it. You did. You did go back up and pay for it. But Ryan was very upset. But anyway, after we had our $6 cookie, Mario was there for the UK stuff, players. Kentucky, to the extent there was any news, Kentucky had a full practice.
Starting point is 00:07:24 We watched Queens, Purdue, Iowa State, and Tennessee State, and they did kind of what people do. They run a few drills. They shoot. A lot of shooting drills. Just a shooting, like, you know, it's not really a real thing. And I think last year, that's what Kentucky did for the most part. But this year, I did find it interesting. They did five on five.
Starting point is 00:07:46 They were the only team all day that went up and down the court five on five. and I thought that was, I actually kind of like that because I've always thought, this always felt like to me it was a wasted hour, you're on the court, you're playing with the balls, and guys just kind of stand around and goof off. I was like, well, why wouldn't you take it seriously? It looks like UK, because I don't think they did that last year, so I do think UK took a different strategy.
Starting point is 00:08:11 I've never, ever seen a team do that. I think I have a full out five-on-five practice of this little, it's like 45 minutes is all to get on the court like that. So for Kentucky, though, you know, maybe, a month or so ago. You heard Pope talk about how they change things up with their practice routine, try to make them ready and not fall behind early in these games. Well, did you like that?
Starting point is 00:08:28 Because I actually did. I think it may be a good move on his part to try to get them more focused and ready for the game today. Yeah. So I thought that was an interesting, and it wasn't just Mark Pope's philosophy. I do not think they did that last year. I don't remember anything doing it. Are you worried about their legs at all, though? No, come on.
Starting point is 00:08:48 It's a fatigue. It's 45 minutes. I mean, come on. Back-to-back days. The Sienna guys yesterday didn't make one sub the whole game. Five guys played a fall four years. Did you know that? Shannon, didn't make one sub the entire game.
Starting point is 00:09:01 So, I mean, now, granted, they got tired at the end. But I, not at all. I liked it. I think we watched all day, and I probably pointed out six times, Ryan, where the ball bounced high on somebody. Yeah. Like, you can watch it. So I think getting used to that is good. Beneficial.
Starting point is 00:09:19 So it's good. Maybe that's where we're going five-on-five up. down the court to help you become more used to that basketball. I think that's why you do it, at least to me. So then in the locker room, they open the locker rooms. It's always been unique to me that the NCAA tournament is the first time you can go, the SEC and the NCAA tournament where the people are allowed in the locker room. You know, UK, and UK is not the only school.
Starting point is 00:09:43 I think every school in the SEC does this, other conferences, I don't know what their policy is, but you're not allowed in the locker room during the season. Right. You used to be Yes, I remember that I never was part of that Was that your era? Yeah, when I first got here
Starting point is 00:09:56 Petino in 96 You could go in the locker room After the game and talk to the players So I do think there's a period Of getting used to that for players I don't know if I think Those locker rooms should be open But regardless of whether they should or not
Starting point is 00:10:11 They are Right So you have to get used to it Again, we weren't there Mario was there Did you think Mario the players look loose? Loose? No?
Starting point is 00:10:24 Well, that's a little shaky. What? They were joking around a lot? Okay, that's good. Mario interviewed all the players asked them what it meant by get money. Touch money. And they all looked at him like, I actually thought it took guts for you to do it
Starting point is 00:10:39 because that seems like something an old white guy would ask and you are like one of their peers. And you asked. But they explained it. Yellovich was the best. Yeah, Yellovich was like, I don't know. I honestly, I don't know if you're in with that bout. I just say it, but I don't know what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:10:54 Yeah. I just do it. I like that. So, but I'm glad the players were lose. I mean, overall, I don't know that there's much you can glean from yesterday, but, but it occurred. Then you have the Pope press conference thing. I, we just, people discussed, including me online quite a bit, you know, I don't want to, the games today.
Starting point is 00:11:15 There's no reason to go into it. might be a conversation for next week. His comments about the Yaxel thing. I don't want to get too distracted on it because it's game day. And so ultimately, let's focus on the game. But regardless, we are now ready for Santa Clara and how we're feeling. I'll say just one thing. If he had talked to the media after the pairing, they would have asked that question five days ago.
Starting point is 00:11:38 We would have to deal with it the day before the game. It is an example of why you should have the press conference Monday. Yeah. Or right of the parent. Then you wouldn't have gotten asked about it at the game. Day before the game. Yeah. So Santa Clara, how do we feel?
Starting point is 00:11:51 Like I said, I kind of woke up this morning in the shower. Like, wait a minute, this is it. You woke up in the shower. Why were you sleeping in the shower? I was in a big blue slumber. You woke up in the shower? Did you see Shannon, by the way, what he wore when we walked out the house for dinner last night? And that wasn't, he wasn't trying to be funny.
Starting point is 00:12:08 That is what he came out of the house in. Very snug. Now, granted, we weren't going to somewhere nice, but he didn't know that. He had no idea where we were going. And we walked out, and you said that was Dane Key's jacket. It was Dane's jacket. And all the young kids, they pull their hoodie up over. But it doesn't fit.
Starting point is 00:12:26 And especially doesn't fit when you put the hoodie on. Yeah, it was all kind of crunched up. I hadn't stretched out yet yet. You know, I'd just put it on and trying to get my pitch. Can you imagine walking out of the house like that, Jane? I can see manboob. I can see nipple poking through. Like, there's a whole lot going on there.
Starting point is 00:12:41 I mean, I'm not a great dresser. I understand. Like, I wear hoodies and hats. and so I'm not, I get it. But I give Ryan credit. Like you, there may be no person more comfortable in who they are than you. You know what I mean? Like there is some value to that.
Starting point is 00:13:01 You just, you are you and you are fine being you. I don't care. You don't. You really don't. And people say they don't care, but they can't. Of course they do. Like people will say, I don't care what people. people think, but then you can tell by the things they do.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Yeah. Whether it's a woman or a man, they're doing stuff because they want to look like, you know, anybody who like jacks their truck up in the air and then says, I don't care. Come on, dude, you care. I care. Like, we all, like, I think most people, you really don't care. That's how you should live life, right? You know, just every day live life and be happy. Life's too short, not to be happy.
Starting point is 00:13:38 And I said, can I take your picture? I didn't spring that on him. And Shannon, he was like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let me pose. I was trying to pose. Just stand there.
Starting point is 00:13:46 No, I just wanted you to stand there because you, that's what you look like. Anyway. But you saw all the ladies, like, lining up when they saw me. Well, they dressed like that. Shannon, there was a woman at dinner. Mario and I agreed. Might be the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life. Oh.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Okay. Oh. I have ever seen in my life. Uh-huh. She walked by, and, like, Mario and I completely agreed. That might be the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. And Ryan goes, want me to talk to her? Brian doesn't care.
Starting point is 00:14:16 No. I can help you guys out. But I actually think he would have. Oh, yeah. Did you? No, no, because I'm not going to bother this person. Oh, the most beautiful woman in the world, you won't talk to her? Come on, man.
Starting point is 00:14:25 No. No, well, first of all, did you see who I was with? Yeah, it makes you look better. Maybe so. But I just love the confidence that you even thought one would do that. I was going to tell her a joke that Jimmy just told us at the table or something. Yeah, the man who hosted at the restaurant. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:42 Ryan just came up and told, or Shannon. just came up and told dirty jokes the whole night. And Ryan wanted to lay one of those on her. Yeah. And what I thought was interesting is you walk up to a table full of strangers. This is like a 70-year-old man. You walk up to a table full of strangers just start telling jokes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:58 How do you know they're going to be okay with it? I think. Because you see, Ryan. You don't care. And he doesn't care. And so it must be okay. He literally the whole night just kept coming up and telling dirty jokes. Like really dirty jokes.
Starting point is 00:15:11 Once we can't tell our mothers. No. And I go, man, I'm trying to eat. Anyway, all of this to get you prepared for the St. Look, Santa Clara game. Great pregame stuff. When you see the Santa Clara team, we're bigger than them. Bigger.
Starting point is 00:15:27 We're stronger than them. Stronger. We're fast. Faster. Now, they might be able to shoot better. But the way Texas A&M played St. Mary's, if you watch that game, which ended up being a low-scoring game, that's what Kentucky needs to do. Yep.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Texas A&M just out-athleted and played them. you know, and that's what Kentucky needs to do today. The defense that St. Mary saw last night and what Santa Clara will see today is something they've not seen all year long. They just don't get that athleticism. They don't. But if you watch the Miami of Ohio game, if you
Starting point is 00:15:59 watch the VCU game, if you watch the high point game, the common denominator in all those games is they got the other team to play their style. They got the other team to not do their advantage, which was athleticism side. Mark, Mark,
Starting point is 00:16:14 And Mario and I were watching Gonzaga and Kennesaw State. And they had that Graham E.K. Who, Kansas State had no chance of guarding, but Gonzaga went long stretches without giving him the ball. And, like, you cannot play their style. So for Kentucky, they've got to, like, play their style, get the ball, get to the basket. Don't just settle for jump. Like, do the things that they're good at.
Starting point is 00:16:39 And then I think they will be okay. Yeah, you attack the basket, man. You take advantage of your strength. If you got strength inside on the defensive end, you know, you put that athleticism you're talking about. They've not seen anything like that before. So put a lot of pressure on the basketball. Duke and Sienna was the same way. Duke gets into a shooting contest with Sienna.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Next thing you know, they're down 13. But in the second half, they just locked them down defensive. And what? Did Sienna score 18 points or something in the second half? That was it. Some tiny amount because Duke was like, all right, we may not be shooting well, but we're going to make sure you don't school. And that's what they did.
Starting point is 00:17:12 And Kentucky has to do. some version of that. If we play Santa Clara's game, then we give them a chance to win. We have to play the way we play, and then we should be okay, as you saw in the A&M St. Mary's game. We saw teams do that to us. It come out, be physical, pushes around. That's what we need to do to say that's what we need to do now.

Listen to help from hypocrite as part of the Mike Cultura podcast network available on the I-Fart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, Tegi Sports Radio. Great day of games yesterday.
Starting point is 00:21:32 Yesterday was why we love the NCAA term. You know, last year, very few upsets in the first round. People kind of thought, all NIL portal, does that mean that stuff's gone? It was great. You know, still the last top four seed to lose. Losing the first round is Kentucky. Did you know that? No.
Starting point is 00:21:51 Yeah. But nevertheless, it was a lot of fun yesterday. Like, that is what it's supposed to be. Last night, we all cuddled up to watch St. Louis and Georgia and your boy, Cream Abdul-Jabbar. Dude, Cream was killing people. He was killing it. Let's go over the games real quick. Cream, I love seeing.
Starting point is 00:22:07 I feel like a proud pop-up. You know, I say a lot that I gave him that nickname. That's a little misleading. Like I gave him the nickname. I saw it. Somebody like commented it. And then I just go, that's a great name. And I started calling him.
Starting point is 00:22:23 Ran with it. So he gives me credit for it and Wikipedia does. But I actually wasn't the technical person, but I was probably the person that made it famous. But there was some, there's actually some listener here is probably the first one to have said it. But it's taken off. And you know, now they just keep adding to them. Milk Chamberlain, Larry Nerd, Larry Blurred. I saw Kevin McPale.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Yeah, that was a good one. Shaquille Opemeal. You know, we kind of make fun of the guy. No, he's not making fun. He's awesome. But he's a good player. The dude can play. Shannon, like he is, and he's beat up.
Starting point is 00:23:00 Yeah. He's got, like, bruises, and he's got, he's like me. Like, I'll just get in the shower, and I'm like, where did that bruise come? He looks so unathletic, but somehow he always makes big plays and big shots. And he's a great passer. Great passer. So, I mean, they killed Georgia. Ran him off the floor.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Killed her. Like, Georgia. What, I mean, why Georgia even come? Yeah. Like, they got destroyed. Then you had high point. That's the moment of the tournament. It is.
Starting point is 00:23:31 That's the moment of the tournament. They're down eight. They come back. They win. Their student announcers screaming is the high. I mean, that's the star. That's the best story so far. That's the best story of the tournament so far.
Starting point is 00:23:42 those student announcers. You got the one guy who gives a great call, and then the other one just looks like he's having a heart attack. He doesn't say a word in the whole video. I love that, though. Yeah, the excitement. Like, he doesn't say a word. No, he's just very animated in his reactions.
Starting point is 00:23:57 He's just like, wha. And the first guy is going, first guy makes a great call, actually. We'll play that as the intro to the next segment, Shannon. Because that's amazing. Then Sienna legitimately looked like they could beat Duke. Yeah. That would have been the biggest upset in the history of the tournament. Yeah, Duke's overall number one seed.
Starting point is 00:24:16 Yes. Dominant team all year. Because I think Virginia was the number one overall seed, but it's Duke. Siena beating Duke would have been the biggest upset, I think, in the history of the tournament. And they led them most of the game. Most of the game. And then Duke came back and won. Then you had, what, VCU?
Starting point is 00:24:34 VCU beats North Carolina. Another game. They were down 19 points in the second half. It's the largest NCAA tournament comeback in the second half ever. Wow. That was a fun game to watch also. Yeah. Can I go back to the high point game just one minute?
Starting point is 00:24:48 Talk about the dude to hit the game-winning shot. I mean, what has to be one of the most amazing stats in basketball history? He had not made a two all year, and he hits the game-winning shot on a two. Baller, right? I mean, talk about clutch. Going into the game, he had 68 made threes and zero made twos. Zero. He was saving it for March.
Starting point is 00:25:12 And then he gets the layup, and you could tell as he was shooting, and he was like, I've never done this before. Does he even do layup lines? I don't know how this play works. The game winning shot to win the game is your first two all year in the NCAA tournament. That's crazy. That's crazy. But it's awesome. Yep.
Starting point is 00:25:31 Like, that is an awesome moment. And, of course, John Caliperi now can go to the Sweet 16, having beaten Hawaii and High Point. Oh, I didn't realize that's if they play next. He got the same thing in the SEC tournament. He did. He got the exact same draw on the SEC tournament. You don't have to play anybody. He had to play, what, Old Miss and Oklahoma to go to the Sweet 16th?
Starting point is 00:25:53 He's doing something right. He's living right. Now, I mean, part of it is you get a seed that allows that to happen. But that's the thing about that four or five matchup. It's the hardest second round game unless an upset is pulled. And there's a decent chance of an upset. So when you're a four or five, you've got a chance of that happening. Like it just happened right here.
Starting point is 00:26:14 And it happened for him. So they play Cal is going to get the Sweet 16, having beaten Hawaii and High Point. See what I did there? What? See what I did there? That's what he said. You see what I did there? Dogs bark apart cars.
Starting point is 00:26:28 You forgot to hammer that last nail in my coffin. That's right. From Little Rock to Jonesboro. Yeah. You know, they don't poop in the Ozarks. What? Like that's what he's going to do But that's all right
Starting point is 00:26:41 You know I guess they they earn that What else did we see yesterday? TCU Tom Crean Yeah Dude don't bet against Tom Cream He picked that for you With that said bet against us I picked the KSR parlay Shannon
Starting point is 00:26:54 Yeah Got every leg wrong Well because you went against the point spread You need to go money line I don't like the point spread It's hard to do the money line though In the first round Because the spreads are too big
Starting point is 00:27:04 But got If you faded me And you bet against me in every spread you would have won. Are you having won again today then? We're putting one out. I think they should, Draft King should just put the opposite of what Matt says out. The anti-KSA are. It's really strange.
Starting point is 00:27:22 I think there's something to knowing too, there's not too much about it. I know more about college basketball than any sport, and it's the worst thing I gamble on. I don't know anything about the NFL. And I've won our pick contest eight straight years. I don't know anything about it. In college basketball, I feel like I know a lot. And I, the ESPN Radio bracket pool. Myron Metcalf is the college basketball reporter, and he's in last.
Starting point is 00:27:50 I do think there's a part of this that you, like, there is. You're in first place in our pool. And I just, you don't know anything. And I just went through and picked it in like five minutes. Well, Ryan picked the Parlay. He's in the 96 percentop. And he doesn't know anything. Just picked it.
Starting point is 00:28:07 You don't think about it too much. Just pick on impulse. Maybe that's the key. He's a state or an Airbnb, not even a holiday inn. I know. So I do think the NCAA tournament, I don't even know why I tried to pick these games. So do you have your parley already today? Yeah, I gave him one, but I mean, I wouldn't bet it.
Starting point is 00:28:23 It's mine. Yeah. I might bet it if it was the exact opposite. I got every game wrong last night. How many games were on it? Well, I mean, I actually made money yesterday, betting, because I bet on high point to win. So I hit that parley early in the afternoon. I hit the early one, but at not, every game wrong.
Starting point is 00:28:40 Can you get every game wrong? Takes skill. Yeah. So if we do that again, if I'm 0 for 8, that would be pretty impressive. We'll take a break. Be right back. KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. I love these dudes. I love how excited they got. I love that the one guy, you don't hear the, the guy's voice because he ain't talking and uh just just an awesome set of excitement i've heard it a dozen
Starting point is 00:29:36 times and still got chili bumps right there these are students right there's students at high points yeah it's very cool because they don't have regular radio broadcaster so that their students do the game that's fantastic that way i wish uk i wish all colleges also had a student broadcast yep i bet they they don't do it clark's puppet shop makes it easier and cheaper with clark's rewards app download the app turn points every time you shop save on fuel during cold weather mornings it's Clark's Pump and Shop, drive-through, drive-in, pump-in shop, family-owned and local, Clark's Pumpin Shop, return, refresh, refuel at Clark's Pumpin Shop.
Starting point is 00:30:09 859-2-80-2287. Text machine, 772-7-4-5-254. Virtually every text or mini-text or wanting to talk about Pope's comments. So let's give it one minute. I think Pope had reasonable things to say in some ways about, the current media environment.
Starting point is 00:30:32 He also used it as just a chance to air grievances. It was odd for me that he did it in that moment. Yeah. Because it was Yaxel. The quote from Yaxel was from him. It wasn't from some anonymous source. He always brings up these AI images about, like,
Starting point is 00:30:46 when his stories about his wife and all these things, which that's just random people on the internet. So here's what I take from it, less the specifics of, This has just been a tough year, I think, for Mark in terms of communicating the way he wants to communicate with the media and with the public. And it would be interesting during the off season to see, like, why did that happen? And how can that get better? Because it's very rarely a good idea to have that tension.
Starting point is 00:31:18 And I'm not really sure who Mark's bad at in some ways, you know? And I wish that that weren't the case, and hopefully that it will get better. It was weird because it was Mark's story of the head. Harold asking him a question about the AP. Like, it wasn't random people on the internet in their underwear. It was like the most, the biggest journalist in terms of journalism that there is at Kentucky. It's been a weird year. He's been weird about Mark and the media.
Starting point is 00:31:44 Going back to what he talked about at the Louisville game. In Michigan State. Michigan State game. There's just been a lot of them. It's just been odd. It's just been an odd, you know, again, it's not a huge deal, but it's just been odd. And I hope, again, like if we have a good weekend here, a lot of that stuff goes away. Yep. Yep. You win these two games. You win today. And you win Sunday.
Starting point is 00:32:07 And a lot of these sort of secondary things that have been in the conversation, they just kind of melt away. You're right. Right. So that's why I hope it happens for him, and I hope it happens for our fan base, because a lot of the stuff we worry about will no longer really matter. If you just win. If you just win, who was it? Just win, baby? Was that? Who said just win, baby? Parcell, Dicka. Am I being Bill Parcells? Who was it, Shannon? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Some coach just said just win. The NFL coach. I think it was Bill Parcell. Al Davis. Al Davis. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, that's it.
Starting point is 00:32:43 Al Davis. Another example, by the way, of the sun is always worse than the day. Oh, exactly. So anyway, win today. Yep. Win Sunday. And we won't be talking about it. Now, one thing is, granted, we're not far from,
Starting point is 00:32:57 Kentucky, but we've seen almost no Kentucky fans. No. I saw a handful of them walking out of that practice yesterday. Yep. But other than that, none. Do you think that gets better today? I do. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:10 The time that Kentucky's been here, the crowd has always kind of flooded the town. So maybe they came last night for the game today at noon. Or maybe they're driving this morning because it's not very far. Yeah. But I was struck, like, at the practice, there were more, I would say, there were more Purdue fans than Kentucky fans at that. practice yesterday. A little odd. A little odd.
Starting point is 00:33:29 But again, we're close, so you don't have to make the, we'll see what it looks like here in a couple hours. Who's next, Shannon? Sam. Sam. Sam, go ahead, Sam. Hey, guys, how's it going? I'm about 30 minutes outside of St. Louis.
Starting point is 00:33:43 See, there you go. There's an example, so hopefully that's right. Yeah. I just wanted to talk about how some of our fans are a little doom and gloom, and you guys kind of just mentioned this, but it's not, I'll use your line. It's not crazy that we can win two basketball games. games. No. It's not crazy that we can win three. It's not crazy that we could win three. I mean, you know, I think beating Michigan is asking a lot, but it is not crazy to win three.
Starting point is 00:34:08 Go ahead. Yeah, I mean, seven Cs, eight Cs make runs every year. We have Otega Oway. It's not like we have a bunch of bombs out there. We've got good players with tournament experience that are old guys. So, I mean, it's not crazy. I'm not expecting us to go to the championship or anything, but people are acting like the season's over. We've got all summer to complain. Let's get excited and go win a few games. I'm with you. Just win, baby. Look at yesterday. I appreciate the call. Just win. Texas plays BYU. Okay, those are two power conference schools, an SEC versus a big 12, five seed difference between Texas and BYU, and Texas controlled the game and won basically led the
Starting point is 00:34:50 whole game. Yeah. SEC over a big 12 school. There's a five seed difference between, you know, Kentucky and Iowa State. Texas A&M. SEC School plays a West Coast Conference School in St. Mary's, controls the whole game and wins. That's what we have to do today against Santa Clara. When you have better dudes than the other dudes, you should win the basketball game.
Starting point is 00:35:17 Take advantage of your strengths. Like you said, I feel like we need three guys. If Otega and Aberdeen show up like we think they are, who's the third guy? Is it going to be Chandler? Somebody's got to step up to. Maybe that third guy. What's your biggest worry?
Starting point is 00:35:29 Because I have one. What's your biggest worry? Well, we mentioned how their three-point percentages similar to ours, but they shoot like about twice as many as we do. If they get hot and just start bombing them in from everywhere, then we get discombobulated and try to do too much and try to play like we don't know what we're doing like we have at times when we get behind like that.
Starting point is 00:35:46 That's my biggest worry. My worry is you cannot fall behind by double digits in this game because it will be harder for us to come back. Because they have, they shoot so many threes. that if you get down 11, it's going to be hard because all they got to do is hit 1, and it kind of makes it even, this is a game. I don't want to see us having to dig a hole. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:08 Because that, I think, would make us then play a style that's what they want, where we're out there jacking three. We don't play that very well. We don't really, I mean, we rarely play that well. Yeah. So we cannot kind of continue our path of all of a sudden we're down 12, and the whole game we're sitting there trying, and we cut it to 6,
Starting point is 00:36:26 and we're like, okay, and then they hear three and it's nine. Like, we can't do that. We've got to be right. A&M yesterday was the example. Texas against BYU was the example. They came out and they led early and they just kept that lead through out the game. I think we went it on the defensive end because of that. Get that lead and then lock them up on the other end of the floor.
Starting point is 00:36:46 859-28027. Who's next? Adam. Adam. Go ahead, Adam. I totally agree with you on filling out brackets. I last year had a pool of about 20 family members, and me and my father-in-law are really the only ones who follow college basketball. It was, you know, my two youngest sons, eight and five, came in ahead of me.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Yeah, I mean, on the ESPN radio, when Myron is in last, and I am like in eighth out of 15 and we're the only ones that watch it and the people that are winning are people who I know don't even watch the sport and you're like well what are you supposed to do you know yeah it's insane have you seen the movie
Starting point is 00:37:38 The Hangover? Yes there is a scene in there that Bradley Cooper looks at Zach Galaphnakis and is like are you really wearing that as they're about to go out in the town like are you really wearing that
Starting point is 00:37:52 That's what I did with Ryan yesterday. I feel like that's you and Ryan. Yeah, I mean, I appreciate to call. You're being very sort of considerate in your comparisons if I get Bradley Cooper. But I do think Zach Gallifanakis in that movie has a little Ryan in him. I thought he went to me. I was Bradley Cooper. No, you don't.
Starting point is 00:38:09 I look like Bradley Cooper. No, you do not. You do not. I'm Zach Gallifanakis. Yes. Grow a beard and it's you. I will say, though, when you don't pull the hood up, it doesn't look quite as fast. There was something about the hood and the tightness that combined to make that.

Starting point is 00:38:50 You told me about Rondo's kid? He's an eighth grader. He started a point guard for North Laurel. He had 19 points at half time last night. That's wild. Finished with 25 as they won their first opening round game. 19 at halftime. 19 and half time.
Starting point is 00:39:04 In eighth grade. An eighth grader. Dominated. So there really haven't been any upsets in Sweet 16. I guess North Laurel beating Warren since. That was probably an upset. Yeah, for sure. Marshall County won yesterday.
Starting point is 00:39:16 North Oldham. North Oldham won yesterday. George Rogers Clark. Yeah. And then I don't remember the other one. Grayson County beat Taylor. Grayson County beat Taylor. That's right. Yeah. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Shannon and I had a big night, or big afternoon yesterday, which we need to talk about. Yes, we do need to talk about it. And then more, as we get you ready, it is the Kentucky Select Chevy Dealer's KSR pregame show slash KSR regular show slash Mario was late this morning. This is Kentucky SportsRate. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:41:21 I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:41:46 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, Brett, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker.
Starting point is 00:42:10 Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know, there's a lot to break down. Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives show.
Starting point is 00:42:33 I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the team everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game.

To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Pierre Rondo Jr. We may have accidentally said North Lorre. He plays at North Oldham. I had several people said we accidentally said Who's we? By we mean you?
Starting point is 00:43:24 I don't think it was me. No, I just said North Laurel won. I didn't say Pierre Oldham. Yeah, I didn't think we messed up. Pierre Roddo. Several people said we said it wrong, but he plays for North Oldham. I mean, I wouldn't shock me. Yesterday, Shannon and I did our relationship podcast.
Starting point is 00:43:38 It is on the interrupted feed. I would say to you, if we lose today and you want to cheer yourself up, listen to it. If we win, do it a celebration. Shannon and I answered 15 questions from listeners about relationships. And I think Shannon we help people. I think we saved the world yesterday with that podcast. Helped everybody's relationship.
Starting point is 00:43:57 And I want to pay you a compliment for a show called Interrupted by Matt Jones. You didn't interrupt me one time. Wow. Not once. Well, I did have somebody say who would have thought how far Shannon and Matt have come since the first show that they're now doing shows together on relationships. Only took us 15 years to get there. Yeah, but we finally did a show together, just the two of us. I enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:44:16 I think that's a good niche for you and I. Yeah, it was a lot of fun, really enjoyed it. What are you laughing at? Because I was sitting over there on a couch, listen to you guys do this show, about to jump off the chair because I want to, you guys are four years old and never been married. Yeah. I've done it twice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:33 I've been through the, it means you're better. You need to listen to the podcast. It sounds like you should be listening to us. Yeah. We have a combined zero divorces. Yeah. I mean, you got, pal. When it comes down to it, you're going to be the man of the house whenever she tells you to do the laundry.
Starting point is 00:44:50 That's how life goes when you're married. Do the laundry. What are you talking about? We didn't have any questions about laundry. We had questions that were important, like about, you know, when you know you have the one and whether or not you should stay in the sleep in the same bed. You know, all kinds of good stuff. All kinds of good stuff. And we did sensitive topics.
Starting point is 00:45:12 in sensitive ways. You know, the text machine is where people have been writing me their feedback. It's been amazingly positive. And a lot of women liking it, hearing the man's perspective. Listen, if you want to do your own one, do it. I don't know what. I adore you, but why would anyone listen to you? I can see a woman listening to a man's perspective, but she's still the boss.
Starting point is 00:45:39 See, it's lines like that, Shannon. Yeah. No alpha. He's beta, Shane. Exactly. There's got to be some balance, Ryan. He's got to get some balance. You got to have a little, I mean, you know, I have a beta side.
Starting point is 00:45:54 You saw me on the bull. Yeah, that was very beta. But there's an alpha side too. You know, you got to mix and match. I did enjoy your conversation on libido. Yeah, I mean, well, we handled it sensibly. It's a fair question that comes up. in relationship.
Starting point is 00:46:12 It does. Someone asks, you know, what if at a stage of your life, you each have different libidos, and Shannon and I, that happens to people. Oh, I definitely happens to people. And you have to, uh, and we fixed it. Who's up next? John Short. Oh, well, perfect.
Starting point is 00:46:27 Perfect. John Short, go ahead. Okay, dokey. Y'all are great Americans. Thank you very much. Welcome. We're going to win today about 10 Begins. That's probably we lost last night.
Starting point is 00:46:41 We're going to beat James Manson Martin, but 25 bigons, and we're going to win in baseball tonight. Our offense and defense will be ready. We need to lead the nation offense and defense and steals and assist. That's right. If you do all that, I think you've got a good chance to win. Thank you, John. The baseball team did lose last night to Ole Miss.
Starting point is 00:47:00 At Ole Miss. The three games series started yesterday, so, yeah, it was a Thursday, Friday, Saturday series. Yeah, hopefully we can get them back today. I want you to read Bob and Jamestown's text to you. Okay. Because, you know, Miami of Ohio once, I was going to let him, Shannon, call the show. He's ready. And he didn't.
Starting point is 00:47:18 No, that's okay. He's here. He's here. We gave him the chance. Here's what Bob and James Town. Do the short version of what he said to you yesterday. So I was texting him yesterday. He said Matt was going to let you come in, call in first, and talk.
Starting point is 00:47:28 He says, Ryan, I was in a garage getting exhaust work done on a street-legal Chevy Copo Camaro drag car. I crossed four rivers and two snowstorms to pick it up in almost. hall. I want to hear more about it. Okay, there's more. Ryan, I'm ready for spring, and it has sprung. The weather is absolutely gorgeous today.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Ready to put top down on that 700-horsepower Copo-comero convertible and let it fly. Our local sheriff did the out-of-state vehicle inspection personally on this bad boy. Wow. That's our boy. That's great. You don't want to talk to him?
Starting point is 00:48:05 By the way, it's get, no, it's game day. It's game day. And that is... You gave a chance to talk about Miami, Ohio. He's talking about his new Chevy command. Do you think they have any chance against Tennessee today? Oh, that's today. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:18 They shoot like they did the other night, man. They can't beat anybody. They were bombing them from everywhere. Well, it would be the perfect... Wouldn't a perfect day be we win, and then they beat Tennessee? Yes, Miami Ohio beats Tennessee. Which would open up the possibility of us playing them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:31 You know, if we beat Iowa State, they'd be Virginia. I mean, it's a long shot, but like... What you say? Every year, a first four winner wins? Well, I said every year a first four winner wins their next game. But that's already happened. Texas did it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:48:44 You know, Texas did. I think something like since the first four started, I think every year but won, one of those teams has won their next game. A first round game? Yeah. So that's one of the things I always look for. I ended up, I picked Texas to win the game against BYU because I thought that would be. What do you think, Maine of Ohio has a shot today? Nah.
Starting point is 00:49:05 I mean, they have a shot, but I would pick Tennessee. Yeah. But they have a shot. Yeah. Nate Amen is back and looked good in the SEC tournament. What do you think about the fact that UK Santa Clara is the most bet game in the tournament so far? I don't know if you know this or not, but a wise philosopher once said, we don't just move the needle.
Starting point is 00:49:23 We are the needle. But do you think that's because, I mean, the spread is two and a half. I mean, there's clearly a lot of people betting against us. Probably a lot of, I mean, obviously a lot of people. It went down to two and a half? Yeah, it opened it two and a half. I thought it opened it three and a half. And then it went to four and a half, and now it's back to two and.
Starting point is 00:49:38 That's what I bet. I bet it two and a half. Yeah. I mean, there's a world where we do what A&M did to St. Mary's, and we just win by like 14. Because we're just better, stronger. But then there's a world where we get behind and with three minutes to go, the whole crowd's going to root against us. I mean, everybody there that's not a Kentucky fan. We're rooting against us.
Starting point is 00:50:02 We'll be rooting for Santa Clara, including all the Iowa State fans that are there. And they'll be a bunch. They play the second game. the second game. There'll be a bunch of Iowa State fans there, and they will be rooting against us. Yes, for sure. I'm really curious to see how the crowd is.
Starting point is 00:50:17 Like I said, usually when Kentucky's been here, St. Louis, you know, Kentucky fans kind of feel all those Western Kentucky Kentucky fans come over to St. Louis, not that far of a trip for them. Yeah. Well, KS Bar, you can come watch the game there. I expect a big crowd and hopefully a happy crowd there. We had good crowds yesterday, but this is different.
Starting point is 00:50:36 This is a, you know, We'll talk a little more about this in the last 30 minutes, but this is a massive game for Markup. It's a massive game for the fan base. It's a massive game for Otega Owey, who ended up having one of the best two-year runs in UK basketball history. You know, I think it's a massive game for some of these guys about whether or not they're going to come back. I talked to somebody yesterday who I think really knows and says there's a lot of these guys that just don't know. Yeah. They said that, like, I think there's a really good chance we have Chandler.
Starting point is 00:51:08 There's a really good chance we have KM, but for a lot of the rest of the guys, they don't know. For real. Like, not just saying that, they really don't know. This could be huge in terms of determining that. So there's a lot on the line today in one basketball game against a team we barely know. 859-280-2287. We'll take a break. Be right back.
Starting point is 00:51:29 It's Kentucky Select Chevy Dealer's KSR pregame. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
