Starting point is 00:02:54 Welcome back to KSR. This is not Matt Jones. This is Drew Franklin with Ryan Lemon and Nick Roush and Shannon the dude. However, I think we do have Matt Jones. Shannon, am I seeing this correctly on our call screeners? He's on there. Long-time listener, first-time caller. Oh, Matt. Where are you calling us from?
Starting point is 00:03:11 I'm about to leave D.C. and I, before I left, I had to take a second to talk about yesterday, or excuse me, Sunday in that game. Because Drew, I know you appreciate this. Probably all you guys do, watching that game and watching Duke losing. person has to be one of my three or four best sporting memories on kentucky of my life maybe honestly number one it was absolutely joyous being in that building watching the duke hearts break and before it kind of gets out of my mind while it's still there i had to call and share it because i i have never in a non-kentucky sporting event jumped higher than i did on so we've all seen
Starting point is 00:03:59 the many reactions in every angle you can possibly watch, was the arena? I mean, just the change. It was amazing. It was amazing. I mean, both games, like on Friday night, the Duke St. John's game had an awesome crowd and a lot of tension. You know, the Duke Yukon game, probably for about 30 minutes, the first 30 minutes was just kind of, because Duke had a big lead the whole time. But in those last seven or eight minutes, you could kind of sense that Yukon had a chance. to come back. It was electric and it was probably, you know, half Duke fans, half Yukon fans, so it would go back and forth and back and forth.
Starting point is 00:04:38 And just as a neutral party to sit there and be in that. And then when they get that steel, like I was on press row and I stood up. I couldn't, I didn't even make myself stay down and I jumped. And I don't think that's allowed. I don't think they were, you know, but I wasn't the only one. I mean, I watch, I and Eagle jumped from broadcasting the game. It was, it was absolutely electric. And then looking around and seeing Yukon people losing their minds and Duke people crying.
Starting point is 00:05:11 I'm amazed they didn't get more shots on TV of the, of like tears and the sadness was just absolutely wild. We're not big Yukon fans around here, but it was weird cheering for them. Did you kind of have that same feeling too? I couldn't help it. I couldn't, I mean, I couldn't help it. Like, I hate Yukon, but it was awesome. And then I think because it was so unexpected, like, you know how in big sporting moments now, everybody has their phone out, but that really didn't happen because I don't think people
Starting point is 00:05:39 expected that play to occur like it did. So it was everybody who's kind of wrapped in the moment. And then when it was over, the security, I don't know if they just, if everybody broke contain or what, but there were just people on the court everywhere. and Bill Murray is out there. He's dancing with the Connecticut band. And it was just electric. But this was kind of what was awkward but also fun.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Well, not fun. It was just awkward. So everyone is with the Yukon people on the floor. And Duke then has to go into their press conference. So their press conference is kind of back and kind of hard to find. And when I get back there, there's Cameron Boozer and John Shire. And you may have seen I took a picture. picture. Boozer's eyes swelling up. Shire is sitting there and there's only, I mean, Drew,
Starting point is 00:06:32 Ryan, you guys have been to those press conferences. There's normally at the NCAA tournament, what, 60, 70, 80 people, something like that at those press conferences? Yep. There were maybe six people in the room because everybody was out on the court with Yukon. So I walk in and it's like everybody's almost expecting you to ask a question because no one's there. And of course, it's also sort of sad and boozer's crying. And everyone's just looking around going, who's going to ask a question? And no one ask a question. And it was like being in the most awkward group therapy session, but with no one wanting to speak, it was so uncomfortable. I took that picture and just had to leave. It was like it was really uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Also like the ESPN asked for permission to use your photo. You tweeted that screenshot yesterday. Yeah, I like you to meet your social media intern. Yeah, well, of course, no one knows I work there, including. I mean, I don't know if the bosses do, much less the social media intern. So I did like to ask me for permission. I mean, that picture, I realized as soon as I'd taken it, that was a pretty amazing picture with his eye swelling up like that. And then as I walked out of the press conference, you know, the Duke locker room was right there.
Starting point is 00:07:44 And you could hear dudes bawling outside the locker room. And, you know, the only time I can remember something like that was 20,000. 2010 when Kentucky lost, that locker room was kind of like that. But this was just, I guess it was because it was so sudden. And, you know, the AD of Duke, this woman and John Shire, they're hugging and kind of like trying to console each other. It was both the height of elation and like the worst sadness you can see right next to each other. Any other stories from rubbing elbows with the Zagorias and the Goodmans and the Norley?
Starting point is 00:08:23 landers of the world? I mean, you were with just the national media. Yeah, I mean, those people, you know, for so long have hated us, but the national media, a lot of them, not necessarily those guys you mentioned, but just a bunch of people got together and watched the Saturday night games. And it was fascinating to hear, you know, to hear them talk about who's going where, what coaches were good dudes, what coaches weren't, you know. Ron, you would have liked what random coaches, you know, might have mistresses. Like you like, you like, learned everything. Go on.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Goodness. I'd like to have been there. Yeah, I mean. Hey, Matt, going back to the game for just a minute. You probably didn't see it in the moment, but what did you think about Danny Hurley essentially headbutting the referee? Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:09:07 I didn't see that in the moment. How crazy is that? That is nuts. I don't know. I guess he was angry at him, but that was so weird. And I loved, my favorite moment of the entire thing is the Duke announcer asking for a technical.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Like, is there anything more? Is there anything more Duke than after that moment, him getting, the announcer asking for a technical for a guy running on the floor? I mean, I thought that was one of the, that might have been the funny. That's the most Duke thing that could possibly happen. And it also confirmed, you remember there was a story earlier in a week, Drew, that said, is Duke still hateable? Oh, yeah. The answer is, of course, yes.
Starting point is 00:09:49 I mean, America celebrates when Duke loses more than anything else. I don't think there's anything else in sports that people universally celebrate more than Duke losing. And you could feel that on Sunday. I thought I was kind of proud of you, you know, that they jumped out such a big lead. You didn't leave. You stayed. Got to witness one of the greatest offenses ever. I stayed because I wasn't, like, personally invested in it.
Starting point is 00:10:15 And also, you know, it was a – so Stanford, Steve. that Scott Van Peltz guy. You guys know who that is. Huge dooky. He is a huge duke. And his seats were next to mine for most of the time. He went down on the floor for the last few minutes. So I wasn't with him when the shot went in.
Starting point is 00:10:36 But I sat next to him in the other games and just getting to know him and listening to him. He is an awesome dude. Like he's, you know, a lot of times you meet these people and they're not as nice as you hope they are. He's an awesome dude and listening to him, tell stories and stuff. That was great. But yeah, he was, he is a big duky, and I know he wasn't, he wasn't the happiest at the end. I keep refreshing their podcast because I want to hear his pain and his voice. Like, I want all of the Duke pain.
Starting point is 00:11:02 That was just, you know. It was incredible. You're up closer than normal for these games. Do you, is Hurley a psycho all the time? Like, do you see it or is it just when the cameras show it? I went and, so my seats weren't great for the media part. But when the Duke, St. John's game ended, I went and just kind of sat behind the UCon bench just in a regular seat.
Starting point is 00:11:27 And he's a psychopath. You know, for three years, I was in the student section at Duke for Shoshchowski, and he was a psychopath. And Cal, you know, for all the thing about Cal yelling, Shoshchewski yelled a lot more than Cal, but Danny Hurley yells more than all of them. And Danny Hurley, I'm amazed he doesn't get technicals all the time. but they also, the referees seem to laugh when he yells too, so I don't know why that works, but he is a psychopath.
Starting point is 00:11:54 But I will also say when you sit up close, especially the Duke-Uk-Con game, St. John's maybe not quite so much, but especially the Duke-U-Con game, you could see kind of how far we were away from actually really being good. Like the stuff Yukon runs is crazy. Like, they run so much offense. I mean, Duke, to some extent, they just kind of overpower, like Cameron. Boozer just sort of backs people in. But Yukon runs so many sets and so much motion.
Starting point is 00:12:24 And, you know, if you miss one cut, they score or get an open look, you get a sense of how much better those teams kind of were than us this year. And you can really see that when you're up close. We hope you enjoy the rest of your trip. We're doing our best here. I'm trying to keep Ryan reeled in as best I can. I'm trying. We're having a great time with Nick Rouse here.
Starting point is 00:12:47 Can you reveal what you're doing next? or you just ought to take it some time away and bounce around. I'm actually just kind of using it as a chance to recharge. And I wasn't going to call in, but like I did. There wasn't, I can feel it kind of, I don't know, you know, it's not in the moment anymore. And I just definitely wanted to share. I sit there and think of like the top sporting moments where I was in the arena.
Starting point is 00:13:11 And the 2008 Ryder Cup is is right there. But this one is right there with it. Part of the problem, Ryan, is a lot of Kentucky's great moments. I've been outside of the arena because I've been too nervous. You didn't get to witness it. You talked about one soccer match you were at when your trip were like the home team won a big game or something. Maybe talk about that. How that awesome that was.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Yeah. At the Euros, I went to a couple of soccer games that were like that. You know, I've been to the Tour de France, the Masters. But I don't think anything has ever produced that spontaneous moment of surprise. like that because it went you know it's kind of what happened with the oh way santa claire game where it just it happens so quick and you didn't really have a chance to process it that it made it it almost even crazier in the moment except in this case it was to win the game and to go to the final four so yeah it was it was awesome and thank you guys and ritt nannic thank you all for
Starting point is 00:14:09 filling in i just wanted to check in all right enjoy the rest of your week off i appreciate the call all right see you up you just appreciated matt's Yeah, I was waiting for that moment. Yeah. Felt pretty good to appreciate the call. Good here from Matt, though. It was crazy. They're going to be playing that replay forever, and he will have been there for it.
Starting point is 00:14:26 I'm a little jealous, to be honest, that he was there. First of all, I thought the Friday night games were awesome. Oh, yeah. Then he goes back for the Sunday game. Rick almost got him. Rick almost got him. I can't. I still don't even know how they came back.
Starting point is 00:14:38 I still know. The best part of, like, there's so many layers of the onion to peel back from Duke's loss. We just keep getting new ones. The fact that Duke has, had a video three weeks ago on their social media channels of John Shire coaching up the exact same end of game situation and they couldn't execute. I mean, all they had to do was just sit there and hold the ball or I don't know, call a time out, literally do anything except turn it over
Starting point is 00:15:07 and I just, I just couldn't stop laughing. I mean, it just, I felt like Jeff Baccaro after he sees a big Kentucky touchdown where you just kind of got a giggle, I was cackling after Duke got taken down in dramatic fashion. Before we take our next break, Shannon, I looked up and I saw our guy, Brett, has just been on hold forever. I cannot leave Brett on hold any longer. At this point, it's on me. So, Brett, what's up?
Starting point is 00:15:31 I just had a few questions. I always was a football dude until the mid-80s. I hope Will Stein gets us going. I'm grateful for Stoops getting us to be noticed and stuff. but I think Stein's going to take us to the next level. But I had a basketball question, too. I can't understand how Jalen Cratens is going to be picked in the top 10 when he only played two games and his knees still swelling.
Starting point is 00:16:05 And it's obvious that he would have made a difference in our season if he'd have been on the floor. And I was just wondering maybe Mo Williams, maybe that's why he brought him in too to try and talk this guy into coming back because his money value would do nothing but go up if his knee heals up. And I don't see why they don't bring Rondo in because they said when he was in the NBA that he was perfect that he would make a hell of a coach someday on his X and O's because if you notice some of the plays that we ran,
Starting point is 00:16:41 it didn't seem like we had any plays. He just threw the ball and said, go at it. So I think it would make a big advantage. And so well, he got busted from marijuana. I'm pretty acceptable nowadays anyway. And that's all. That's all. Thanks for hanging on so long.
Starting point is 00:17:00 And I don't know, were we good there, Shannon? Was there? No, we're good. Yeah. Okay. I thought I heard a word. It was kind of muffled there. On the Rondo thing, sure, we'd all of them.
Starting point is 00:17:09 We also have to remember Rondo made $100 million. in his career and some people might not want to go work. I can't speak for Rondo, but if I had 100 million, I love Kentucky basketball, I would be sitting front row watching and not behind the season. Being a coach is a terrible lifestyle. It's not, this is not fun what they're doing. It's 365 days a year. You don't get any days off.
Starting point is 00:17:30 They would be miserable. So I would not be chopping at the bit to do it. I would also say too, Gene Quains isn't on any mock drives that I'm seeing. He's slipping. He's still first round, but he's not projected. lottery as he was. I mean, what a terrible year for him to do this because this class is loaded. The top 10 ain't changing.
Starting point is 00:17:48 But he'll still be a top 20, 25-ish pitch. He worried about him. CBS didn't have him in the first round and ESPN doesn't have it. I worry about him because all these teams will do their own physical checks and if that knee is still not healthy or if he did re-injure it this season, it's just going to drop him even farther. Oh, he's going the wrong way.
Starting point is 00:18:03 But a proven team, like I'll just say the thunder. Someone will take a gamble on a guy who could just come in and be an elite shot block or something like that. But there's no doubt. he's sliding based on how this year went. I mean, he would definitely get taken in the second round because those picks don't mean anything. You can hit a potential top 10 guy.
Starting point is 00:18:19 It'd be a good year to be drafting in the NBA. A lot of good players out there. Yep. We're taking another break. It's good hearing from Matt Jones and DC about the game and our guy Brett there. Sorry, am I crazy? I thought I heard something on that.
Starting point is 00:18:30 I thought I heard something. Okay, just making sure. Make it sure. His phone broke up. So I was like to be to be. I thought Shannon dumped it. I think his phone dumped it for us. So we're all good there.
Starting point is 00:18:40 We'll be right back after this break. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Starting point is 00:21:30 What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or, wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio. Drew Franklin here with Ryan Lemon, Nick Rausch,
Starting point is 00:21:49 and Shannon the dude. You know, the final four is coming up, and so is prime time for your skin. You didn't think I was going that route, did you, Nick? No, you got me. I've been moisturizing, though.
Starting point is 00:22:00 I got some on. Got a little vitamin C serum on, too, wear your sunscreen. Got to take care of your face. You got to wear the hats, too. I wore the hat while doing some yard work over the weekend. It wasn't a big enough hat.
Starting point is 00:22:09 We need a bigger hat because you got to take care of your skin, That's right. Tailgating, patios, sunshine before tip off, out your yard with your hat. It all adds up in skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in America and also one of the most preventable. At Kentucky Skin Cancer Center, they offer full body skin checks and treatment for all types of skin cancer. Right here in your community.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Don't wait for a timeout to take care of yourself. Schedular screening today at Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.com. I highly recommend the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center. We went to the one where were we? Was that Owensboro, Boeing Green? Got the phasia treatment. It was wonderful. In Powderly, Glasgow, Franklin, Owensboro.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Call 270842-1999 or visit Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.com because the best one of the season is catching it early. We heard from Matt in that segment. Also, we had a, I think maybe a submission from social media. Is this the A-Vision Twitter following? Yeah, well, it's the at Vince Mero Twitter or the coach? I've heard of him. I've heard of him. Coach Meryl.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Yeah, Coach Merrill. Surely he wasn't. He tweeted, it's been 30 minutes now, but when we were talking about Vince Marrow, he tweeted LOL, fake news, hey, buddy, we're not done yet. The next one is going to have you turning your heads, go carts. It's probably not about us, but you know, Nick, he did hit you with the hello Nick Roush. Hello, Nick Roush. It could be a shot this way. It could be. let's be real. You think the dog's listening? Yeah, yeah. It's okay. Hey, Vince. I hope it's going well.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Good job. Yeah, you got him now, but it's a long way to go till Saturday day. His tweet to you from the sideline during the Louisville Kentucky game. It was, I was dying laughing in that Wolverville press box. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe.
Starting point is 00:23:56 But I could, though. I knew it was going to come at some point, but I just didn't know. During the game. During the game. From the sideline. That is only one of the... He fired off multiple.
Starting point is 00:24:08 But you know what? If you get the win, you deserve to take the victory lap. So you can take the victory lap for now. But that's what... I don't think people outside of here understand how intense this rivalry is going to get. You have two coaches who were quarterbacks at the same high school that both went and played at U.S. There are coaches from UK and U of L on both staffs.
Starting point is 00:24:34 That's right. They got a switch. Like the recruiting coordinator just kind of switched. Yeah. Chase Hikey and Pete Nock to just change jobs. Do you think they, they're about the same size? Do you think they were just like, here's my UK polos? Give me your Louisville polos. You think they did that?
Starting point is 00:24:46 Yeah, it's like a jersey swath after a basketball game. But like that is going to make it ultra competitive. There's a lot of really talented players in this upcoming class. And to be frank, Louisville has more of them right now, right? With Brown. I know Oron, Westmoreland. That was a kid. I mean, recruiting sites had articles written of him committing to Louisville, and he flipped to Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:25:09 So that was a good one for a nice little notch in the belt for the cats, but there's still some other big ones out there. There's a wide receiver from Northern Kentucky who is committed to play baseball to Louisville. Like he committed to play baseball at Louisville when he was not even in high school yet. Kentucky's recruiting for football. He's a good player. But it's going to be very intense between these two programs away from the field. and then when it gets on the field, it's going to be fun. How many close Kentucky Louisville football games can you remember? They've been pretty lopsided here lately.
Starting point is 00:25:42 It was the time that Lamar fumbled. Did you remember that? Did you see him do the Hysman? Hey, man, Lamar Fumbled. Yeah, he did the Housin and he fumble. That was a close game in Louisville loss. There was one close game with Charlie and Joker, and it was the worst football game ever played.
Starting point is 00:26:00 It was like watching the U.FL. It was fumbles all over the place. Kentucky won that one, and then Stevie got loose, but most of them have been pretty well upside. I think we're going to get a highly contentious battle. This would be a year. It would be fun to have the Governor's Cup first of the year, just from a, like, crap talking. The juice would be so high. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:26:18 We don't need that. We can save it to the end of the year. We can wreck the card seasons and then have that juice flowing for that Alabama game in week two, which I got to say, just prepare for a lot of people to predict that upset this summer. Okay. Is that a trendy pick with DeBold? going the wrong direction? He is bad in his first kind of big games. We saw what they did to Gus Malza in Florida State last year,
Starting point is 00:26:42 a terrible Florida State team. And then the year prior, they laid an egg on their first time away from Alabama. So you get this big stage. You got a fun offense. It's the time that that can really get people saying, we've been telling you, Will Stone's the next big thing and it's just beat Alabama.
Starting point is 00:27:01 You know, like instead of having McDonough making fun of Kentucky for not being able to get a playoff before halftime, that was fun. They will be talking about how high-powered this offense is. Is it going to be enough to do it? I'm going to predict it because why the hell not, right? Like, cats are going to beat the Crimson Tide in Week 2. We're going to be storming the field. It's going to be outstanding.
Starting point is 00:27:22 I can't wait for it. Just go ahead. Make sure you're there for that week two game. And hell, why not? Week 1-2, Youngstown State. Watch the cats put up 50 points. Feed the studs. Let's go to Moni real quick before.
Starting point is 00:27:31 next break, Shannon. All right. Hey, Monty. Hi, Monty. What's up? Hey. Hey, first time, long time. Wow.
Starting point is 00:27:42 I got kind of a fun, unique story about the Duke, Kentucky game back in the day, kind on the hills of Matt. So the time that that game was going on, I was playing for a state championship at Freedom Hall. It was the exact same time of the game. We were playing University Heights. So while we're playing that game, we don't have any idea what's going on. and crowds going nuts when nothing's happening.
Starting point is 00:28:04 And then so the first time I ever actually got to watch that game was with Sean Woods. He took me, we sat down at his house, and I got to watch it on video with him. And that was the first experience I had seeing that game. Oh, what an amazing memory. Sorry I put you up against a hard break there, but it's good to hear from you. We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J., he'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:28:24 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. I am not Matt Jones I am Drew Franklin filling in for Matt on KSR with Ryan Lemon Nick Rouse and Shannon the dude guys I'm in trouble
Starting point is 00:28:37 I messed up a little bit Oh no That was my guy Monnie I know Monnie And I set him up for failure The hard break was too close Hard break waits for nobody I knew when I went to him
Starting point is 00:28:47 We're cutting this a little close Maybe it's just a question He had a story Had to cut him off That's my guy It never fails Anytime you give somebody like 30 seconds They're the person on hold
Starting point is 00:28:56 Who's got the longest story Well I was going to be a good story. I love Monty. I've heard a lot of people talk about that state championship game at Freedom Hall while Duke was playing Kentucky in the NCAA tournament in 92. And the more it went on, people would leave their seats during the state championship game, go up to the concourse and watch the game that was on the concourse TVs. And they would scream and yell. At one point, the referees and the players on the court stopped and looked up because they couldn't know what, they didn't know what was going on.
Starting point is 00:29:23 They didn't have any idea what was happening at that time. It's wild. I got to send them a little note or something. Tell him, come to call back. feel bad. Call back, boy. I'm sorry about that. I set you up for failure. Clark's Pumachal phone line. 859-2-8-8-7. Let's go to John real quick, knock that out, so I'll make him wait and do that again. What's up, John? Hey, guys, what's up? What's happening, guys? We're just hosting a radio show. What's up? So, listen, I know news kind of broke out that Florida's 7.9 center is entering the transfer
Starting point is 00:29:54 portal. What do you think about any chances in Kentucky might get him? I think that would be a terrible idea, John. Have you watched him play basketball? He doesn't really move well. If he was good enough, he would have played Florida. I mean, he's a sight to see. I've not done my homework on him. Yeah, if he was good, he would have played.
Starting point is 00:30:12 I mean, Florida, they were a good team. If he was good enough, he would have played. Yeah, appreciate the call. No, it's, when he was at Ropp, I made a point when there are warm-ups. I went and stood his club. I mean, I didn't walk out on the court and, you know, go back-to-back with him. but I wanted to get as close as I possibly could. It is unbelievable how tall that guy is.
Starting point is 00:30:31 It's amazing whether it was the VCU or someone who they were playing the NCAA tournament and a 6-8 guy was standing next to him and looked like me standing next to him. Crazy. But he just doesn't. He doesn't get around well. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:30:43 No, that's fine. He can go play at a smaller school and be good there. True. Yeah. Like you remember Kenny George? He was at UC Irvine, I want to say. There was also another guy for UNC Asheville.
Starting point is 00:30:56 was a big guy. That might have been Kenny George. I don't know. You get all the Giants mixed up. But yeah, he can go somewhere else. Taco, Taco was at what? Taco was at UCLA. Man, that would have been a, that would have been an all-time Duke-Loss. Because Taco Fall almost beat Zion. That was a second round back in 2018. But hey, you know what? It's going to be, it's going to be hard to top the Duke Ross on Sunday. That was chef's kiss. Taco played in the Celebrity game. I lost our game this year. I feel like that's unfair. I mean, like Kevin Hart plays in that game. I can't have Taco Fall out there. That's where he is in his journey now.
Starting point is 00:31:28 I mentioned earlier I want to talk a little TV. Yes, you did. Got a few TV things going on, A, have you, anybody on neighbors? We keep signing the homework. I started watching. I'm on episode one where they're debating. What do you think, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:31:41 Yeah, it's crazy. They're going back and forth between the neighbors that are out kind of in the desert and then the fighting over the beachfront property. I like it. I'm hooked. So I'm in for the rest of them. So many people warn me about episode six, though. We even warned people on this show.
Starting point is 00:31:58 I hadn't seen it yet. I kept putting it off. I watched it a couple nights ago. You can't warn people enough for episode six. Are you kidding me? There's more minutes with nudity than minutes without nudity. It's at a nudist colony. So it's just, that's just the episode.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Wow. That's right up Ryan's alley. Brace yourself. I can see Ryan living there. I can see right over there. What's possibly going wrong there? I'm just warning you all. Episode 1 through 5, great.
Starting point is 00:32:23 Episode 6, I don't know. It's on you. You've been told if you want to watch it, it's entertaining. There's just a lot happening. Morning's out there. There's a lot happening. There's a lot happening. There's a lot going on.
Starting point is 00:32:34 But last night, I watched Paradise, season finale. Are you all Paradise people? That's the one where the president likes Kentucky basketball. I like the people in Paradise. We don't have the Hulu at our house, though. So that's why we have not seen the Paradise. Well, I'm going to be very careful not to spoil it because nobody likes that person. I like that guy, though.
Starting point is 00:32:50 He was in This Is Us. Oh, yeah. I can't think of his name, but he's one of the main people. Yeah, yeah, he's good. But I just need anyone that's on the same wavelength with me, the way this show wrapped up, I feel like they wrote it for me in KSR. There's just a big, there's a thing, there's a crossover. We already collided with Kentucky basketball all the last season.
Starting point is 00:33:10 A couple weeks ago, he's doing the big speech about empires and dynasties falling. And then he says, but don't get me started on Kentucky basketball. I thought they were done poking me, but no, the finale last night, they had one last big poke. I've got to be careful not to give anything out for my fellow. Paradise fans. It just came out yesterday. But the major KSR crossover on that show, and I love that show. Nick, one show that you're losing, TV Gene. My other TV topic, big news in the horse racing community. Yeah, yeah. What's going on? So the sport of horse racing, it's in a very transitional period. And it's very healthy on big race days, and it's very healthy if you have lots of money.
Starting point is 00:33:55 it's not very healthy for the average Joe's like me. The guys who like to just show up, you know, make $10 bets, right? Pop on the TVG. Oh, they're at Gulfstream. Andy Bean Cohn, like says this 12. The ones looking good at Sharpen Pack. I'll put two across on it. And hot damn, it came in a second.
Starting point is 00:34:15 We're winning some money, right? Like the casual fan experience has not been great, particularly the CAWs. Don't get me started on the CAWs. computer assisted at wagering. It's the worst. They're taking money out of our hands. Yeah, we don't want to confuse Ryan on that. Yeah, yeah, it's the worst.
Starting point is 00:34:33 But what's happened? TVG has been around since 99. Actually, start in Louisville. They tested it for a few years. And they're like, oh, this is working. We're going to give it to everybody. And it's been in business ever since then. They show all of the races, all the time.
Starting point is 00:34:45 It's Horse Racing's network. Fan duel took it over a couple of years ago. They started sprinkling in some Kay Adams, a little bit of Boogie Cousins and Michelle Beatle. And on Friday, they said, We're done sprinkling. We're done with horse racing. Fanduil TV, we are pulling the plug on TVG.
Starting point is 00:35:01 They will be at the Triple Crown events this year. They're still going to be at Keenland. But once this year's Triple Crown and Breeders Cup is all over with, they're taking the hosts out and then it will go black next year. More than 100 people are losing their jobs. It sucks for those people, but it mostly sucks for a very specific demographic. It's my dad's demo, right? There were people on the message board who are like,
Starting point is 00:35:25 I'm going to have to break this news to my father-in-law who watches TVG every day and has no idea just happening. Yeah, because you go to the bar, it's on the TV at the corner. Oh, three o'clock at a bar, someone, if it's not already on, you're getting, can you turn that to TVG? Yeah, because why not play a couple races at O'Con?
Starting point is 00:35:42 Right? Like, it's fun. And to take that away, it's awful. It's awful for the sport of horse racing for the terrible, like you're removing this gateway to it. Now, I will be somewhat optimistic that Fox owns a lot of rights to, like, NARA, so they get all the Saratogas. They do Churchill Downs meet. They also did the Arkansas Derby last
Starting point is 00:36:06 Saturday. So Fox, like, they're playing motorcycle racing on FS2. They could just take some rights to some of these other tracks, like they get about Keenlin, and they could make essentially a new version of TVG, which will probably happen. But it just, it's one thing to casually flip on and watch is another thing to have to seek it out. And so, like, how does that affect the overall betting handle? Like, it's bad. It sucks for the sport. And I love it. Horse racing is my, you know, obviously my first passion is Kentucky football, but it's my dog. Horse racing, I get to just have fun. I get to go. You're in a derby hat right now. Oh, yeah. Derby. I'm, we're shopping for Derby. Hire. Rees my Super Bowl. Part of the reason we bought the house
Starting point is 00:36:46 in the neighborhood we do is so I can walk to Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May, okay? I love It is so much fun to just have the program out with the whole day of races ahead of you. It's so exciting. You don't have to be a high roller to enjoy it, but the way that this sport is trending, they're making it to where you have to be a high roller. And that sucks. Like, that's not a good business model to just abandon your regular fans. And this is another step in it with Fando Poole on the plug on TVG after 27 years.
Starting point is 00:37:14 Good punch. Big news around Kentucky to the horse racing community. What are they going to watch at Thoroughbred Cafe on the East Town Road? Thoroughbred, man. We need to go there soon. I know, but it was on 24 hours a day, all day long, every day. Nick's the most fun time. Nick likes to be able to walk to Churchill Downs.
Starting point is 00:37:28 I miss walking to Thoroughbred every day. I always enjoyed in my younger days coming home from the watering holes at about 1 a.m. And then just randomly picking a Japanese horse to win a race. You get the whole crew on it. Like, it's so much fun. You have no idea what you're doing, but it's like, hell yeah, let's watch a horse race. I bet a pick six one time. I think I had one eye open when I was putting the bed in.
Starting point is 00:37:50 Squinting making sure. It comes down to the last race. I am not making this up. Every horse was wearing the same silk. I didn't know which was mine. And that wasn't because it was late. Like the Japanese horse racing, they're all just wearing a black silk.
Starting point is 00:38:02 No numbers. I was like, what is going on? I don't even know which horse is mine. But I loved it. And we're going to miss that with TV. We are. We are. Keenland, opening Friday?
Starting point is 00:38:10 Coming up. New Paddock? Heck yeah. That, the new paddock looks pretty, pretty nice. I know, you know, people get weird by change.
Starting point is 00:38:16 But like this one, church or dance, when they make changes. They're like, what's the biggest thing we can put in here? Keenland, this, it fits the... We're Elliot. The aesthetic.
Starting point is 00:38:26 Yeah, yeah. Here's another thing. A little Keenland tip. Big Keenland days. Not as fun as just the random Wednesday when it's cloudy. Oh, that's the time to go. Oh, yeah. And you just walk wherever you.
Starting point is 00:38:38 Early Sunday. Oh, yeah, that's nice, too. But like the Saturdays, it's a lot. Yeah. I mean, you know, they're time and place for everything. But I'm, uh, I like to, I like to, yeah, I've got to go to election. for football on Thursday. It might be a little late getting back. I got a flat tire out there on Versils Road, I'll be there in about six hours.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Enough time to watch three races. A few more TV movie things. Ryan, our guy, Steve Zahn, just put out a movie. You were telling me about this. I didn't know this. I tried to go. He had a big two-night premiere over here at the theater. The theater. It's called She Dancees. He made it with his daughter. Nice. So that's a big thing going around in this community right now. We're rooting for Steve. Hope that goes well. You know, I'm getting pretty close to my my Girl Dad era. So that's one I have on my radar, but also wanted to let everybody else know that
Starting point is 00:39:24 Steve's got a big project out there that they should go check out. So is he in it or is he's directing it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So he's in it with his daughters. Yep, he wrote it. Cool. She's, I guess, getting into her act. I don't know her career, but she's young and they did that together.
Starting point is 00:39:35 So that's cool. And then I also have a confession. Yeah. And my wife was like, are you sure you want to say this in the airwaves? Oh, boy, Babby's warning you must be good. Well, my favorite person to make fun of is me. I do it all the time. I love making fun of myself.
Starting point is 00:39:49 And I've been doing something lately that I feel like needs to get roasted. And I just can't keep that secret inside. So you're having a little therapy session here right now. Yeah. I just need you all to know that I'm doing this and I want all your arrows in my direction. Because I deserve to be shot with these arrows. So I mentioned I love me some paradise. Yes.
Starting point is 00:40:07 Finish that last night. Can't recommend enough. Same with neighbors. But there's a show I've been watching every night. I binge four seasons already. And I started season five last night and I'm hooked. and you all, if I gave you a thousand guesses, you wouldn't get it. But I'm here to tell you all KSR.
Starting point is 00:40:25 I watch the joy of painting with Bob Ross religiously. Oh, yeah, I've seen that. Yeah. You know, but I mean, I sit down and like knock out six episodes in a sitting. It is. And to be honest, I think he's painted the same picture every episode. But it is, it is kind of like my zen. He's just got this, that tone.
Starting point is 00:40:43 Yes. In the happy dreams. God, there's like 30 seasons. I'm knocking them out consecutively. By the end of the summer, I will have seen every episode of The Joy of Painting, and I just need people to know that I have that going on in my life. Because I'm not, you know what? I am proud of it.
Starting point is 00:40:58 I am proud of it. You should be. As dumb as that is. I, uh, you're admitting something. If that's an admission and confession, then I'm willing to confess too. It's been out of my wheelhouse a little bit, but I had a run of about three years where that was the bedtime. We're popping on some Bob Ross before we go to bed.
Starting point is 00:41:14 Because you're right. the voice, so soothing. Yes. You fall asleep and then you wake up and it's still on. You're like, oh, I want to see him finish this painting. Oh, he's still on that same tree. Yeah. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:41:25 There's plenty of them out there to run through to burn and turn through. If you're working, you're at your laptop, you just kind of look in the background like, oh, a tree looks kind of nice. A lot of snowscapes. Yeah. A lot of mountains. The best part is when he cleans his brush, you know, he does like, do you, knock it and he always laughs.
Starting point is 00:41:41 He's like, what is wrong with you guys? I like when he brings out the animals at the beginning. They'll have like a chipmunk and his frock it. So I turn. What does the matter with you? Well, it's, I love that Drew.
Starting point is 00:41:56 Drew expected everybody to make fun of them. We're like, oh yeah, we love the joy of painting. I found a community. I feel seen. I feel seen right now. Well, it started,
Starting point is 00:42:03 you know, sometimes I don't sleep very well. So I would take my cornbread gummy after I've watched the show so I want to watch. And I would turn that on. And most of the time I'd be asleep within five minutes because of tone. I mean, he hadn't even gotten to the clouds or finished the blue sky yet. But here lately, I've been really into it.
Starting point is 00:42:19 And instead of falling asleep, I'm knocking out like four episodes a night. The fact that you're binge watching it now makes me really concerned about you. I tried to be asleep by 11 p.m. last night. At 2 a.m. You're still watching my wife? He tells you what colors you need to have. Oh, my goodness. I have fully expected you all to make fun of me.
Starting point is 00:42:38 Shannon, thank you for seeing me. Do you realize there's 405 episodes? so you've got some work to do still. Yes, and the one I watched last night, Season 5, Episode 1, titled Mountain Waterfall, came out six months before I was born. Oh, no, there's... In January, 1985.
Starting point is 00:42:53 31 seasons. Yeah, you get a long way. You'll get there. God, I love the encouragement. And you know what? It's like a support system here. Drew, when you finish all 31 seasons, you and I can go with Stephen Peak up to Muncie,
Starting point is 00:43:07 Indiana, we can go to the Bob Ross Museum, and we can experience the joy of painting, and we can create our own landscapes for the KSR YouTube channel. Should we start a Joy of Painting Podcast? No. We can't describe what he's painting. I did not expect the reaction to be this. I hope I'm being made fun of because I can't believe I'm doing it, but I'm into it.
Starting point is 00:43:28 That Bob can paint, man. I am really upset about all three of you guys. I'm waiting for a plot twist when he paints like a person or an automobile because right now it's just trees and mountains for five seasons. Trees and clouds. I have to get that off much of us. Drew, you like conspiracy theories. Have you heard the conspiracy? theory that Bob Ross is actually a murderer.
Starting point is 00:43:45 I have. I don't believe it. Painting all the scenes of where the bodies are. I'm just saying it just took a dark twist. See, a big conspiracy theory guy, huge. That one I can't get behind. That's a lot of scenes of murders. 400 of dead bodies. Well, just check the mountains, trees and the waters because that's where they are.
Starting point is 00:44:05 I can't, I have to go to a break. I can't believe I confess that. I don't want to open more. But thank you for seeing me, Nick Rosh and Shannon. We'll be right back. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,

If you were thinking Nick Rouse is on today, I'm a little late, but I'm going to tune in now and see what they're saying about that new offensive line or what that defense looks like.
Starting point is 00:47:39 I'm sorry we were caught up in the joy of painting. but that's what we're doing around here. And y'all got a man crush on Bob Ross. I didn't say about man crush. I just, my man's got a true talent. What's the talent? Painting. And these paintings are awful.
Starting point is 00:47:53 And talking. Awful. Now you're just hating. Now you're just hating. Show me. I want to see a Ryan Lemon painting. Yeah. Well,
Starting point is 00:47:59 he has not painted cast the first stone. I do feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, saying that in the microphone getting it out. Now I can go home and finish season five. And you have full support of two of your guys. I think Nick's going to come over. We're going to have some bourbon. I've got a few episodes.
Starting point is 00:48:14 It's a great last way to enjoy your time before parenthood. And baby time takes up all your time. Just enjoy a painting. That's right. And we do have more football talk to come. We had a lot going on with Mo Williams. Matt called in. Roush is back on Thursday.
Starting point is 00:48:27 We'll get more into it there. There's plenty of time to talk football. Yeah, we'll get to it. So we didn't mean to completely gloss over football. But time flies when you're doing this, you know? I had to talk a little TV there, right? Well, like Nick said earlier, it kind of gets lost in March madness. You know, you forget about it.
Starting point is 00:48:44 Okay, basketball's over. Let's turn our focus to see what's going on on the football field right now. It's also exciting, but at the same time, it is just practice. So like, you know. Practice. Practice, right? They're having like real scrimmages? Not until Saturday.
Starting point is 00:48:58 The first one will be the Saturday. All right. Shannon, let me make sure I check all my boxes here. You have one more read force, right? Who's the segment brought to us by? Yeah, our friends at Shady Ray's, you know, stop over, paying for expensive sunglasses, you can go to Shadyrays.com. They've got tons of five-star reviews.
Starting point is 00:49:14 It Shadyrays. They have premium polarized shades that are tangle-free. They won't get stuck in your hair. And you can get it all at Shadyraise.com. They have locations in the summit at Prince Farm. I don't have the copy in front of me. The Summit at Prince Farm, you can go there as well. Shadirayrace.com for all of your shady rays needs.
Starting point is 00:49:32 Especially with the sun out now. Do we have time to get to Tanner real quick so I can get through all the collars? Sue Tanner. What's up? Hey, Drew, I apologize to you guys touched on this. I got caught accidentally working during KSR hours. But I just wanted to get a BSA to Big Blue Nation and specifically Mark Pope who might be on Facebook tomorrow. If you're looking at any Kentucky news, just keep an eye on that calendar date.
Starting point is 00:49:55 Take care, boys. Go catch. All right, thanks, man. Appreciate it. Remember, if you see it on Facebook, just because it has a picture, it's not real. I had to have that talk with someone again yesterday. Look at you too, Ryan. It's too easy.
Starting point is 00:50:08 to be deceived because it is like, looks like it's definitely real. And there's a lot of negativity on there. Yeah. Tomorrow what we got, is Billy our sports filling? Billy our sports is driving tomorrow. Yes. So me, you, Billy and Shannon. And then Nick's back with us on Thursday and then Friday will be possibly at a secret location.
Starting point is 00:50:24 I have no idea what Billy has dialed up for us, but we're excited here from Billy and the rest of the crew will be here. We'll be a KS bar tomorrow for Wednesday. We'll be a KS bar for Wednesday. So check it out. This is a fun one today. Nick, come back Thursday. We'll do more football talk.
