What happened on the horn, Rick? What was that horn? I don't know. I had nothing to do with the horn. It sounds like you had something to do with it.

Starting point is 00:07:11 I heart radio. American soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming. Ramos sending on to Ernie. Score at the chip. I'm Todd Ramos. I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, inside American soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
Starting point is 00:07:35 I'm not worried about Polisic. I'm not worried about balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team.
Starting point is 00:07:53 It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tabramos on the IHeart Radio app, podcast wherever you get your podcast. Talk to Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-2-80-2287. The text machine is 772-7-7-4-5-254. No idea if this is better or not. What do we think? It sounds a little better, but still terrible. But you know what? This is going to be what it is because this is I-Heart Radio and this is the way it goes. We are back after vacation and ready to rock.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Ryan, so back what I was saying. Thank you very much for filling in. while I was gone. I did two days. Drew did two days and then Billy did a day and did a great job. I heard he did a great job. I was glad to. I'm always proud of Billy. And, you know, Jack and Nick, thank you to them for coming in as well. Yeah. And I want to thank the folks here at I heart for being ready when we came back, Drew. That's exactly how all things go. Well, the first day you were gone, I hosted it. I had to do the first segment by phone without a co-host because of being a technical difficulties. So it's been a week. It's been a great time. Well, all right. So the national
Starting point is 00:09:16 Championship is tonight. Right. Portal starts at midnight tonight. And since I was gone, I wrote down like a million topics. A bit. Because I have a lot to say. We were gone for a long time. I do want you to notice I came in today with a Michigan hoodie because we have to have
Starting point is 00:09:34 Michigan win tonight. We have to. As much as I enjoyed watching Yukon beat Duke live in person, we have to have Michigan win tonight. We cannot have Yukon win seven titles in 20. 27 years. So Michigan, who hasn't won a title since what, Rommel Robinson in 1987? It was 89. 89 over Seton Hall. You're exactly right. We need them to win tonight. I don't even particularly like Michigan, but I think if you're a historic college basketball person, which
Starting point is 00:10:05 those of us that love UK are, we need a victory. If Connecticut wins, it's their seventh title. That's more than Duke. That's more than North Carolina. And breathing down our neck. in Kansas. I mean, seven in 27 years is kind of an amazing thing. The Yukon situation is an unbelievable situation. So in the last 27 years, Drew, they've made eight final fours, but they've won seven of them. Yeah. That's amazing. Or well, they've won six. They will have won seven if they win tonight. They've also, though, during that time, Drew, missed the tournament nine times. Had some early exits even when they made it. It's so weird. And it's crazy that in that spans since 99, I mean, they have seven to our one.
Starting point is 00:10:49 I mean, seven in that window is nuts for anyone with three different coaches. That's. And three different coaches. I mean, they haven't won tonight. So let's right now they have six. Yeah. But they very well could win tonight. I mean, they're a six and a half point underdog.
Starting point is 00:11:03 People are acting like it's certain they're going to lose. I feel like there are a cockroach that does not. I mean, I don't know how you can say certainly they're going to lose. They're not intimidated by anybody. They've proven that. And, you know, Rick Patino's got to be sitting back saying, man, I just destroyed this team in the big end finale. They lost to an 11 win Marquette team right before the tournament. That's right.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Forget about that. Marquette team that only won 11 games beat them just before the tournament. I mean, that's crazy. Now, Michigan, on the other hand, there are people saying that if they win, it's one of the greatest teams ever. I don't buy that, just for the record. I mean, they're storming through the tournament. So in that respect, it's very impressive. They could have like one of the great tournament runs of all time,
Starting point is 00:11:45 but I'm not willing to yet say that they are, you know, the best, one of the best teams of all time. Maybe not one of the best, but one of the best to watch. I mean, they're fun to watch. You enjoy watching them?
Starting point is 00:11:54 90 points a game. They're, you know, throwing alley-oop dunks and scoring every which way. They are, to me, they're fun to watch. Well, I want to preview that game a little more as we get closer,
Starting point is 00:12:02 but let's talk about kind of where Kentucky is. All right, so since I've been gone, we have announced, on players, which I think a lot more will come tomorrow. But we have announcements on player Jasper Johnson, Brandon Garrison, transferring. Right.
Starting point is 00:12:20 Not a surprise on either one of them. What were we going to say? And Jaylon Lowe, that, I think, happened. Maybe that happened the weekend that I left. Any of those three surprise you? No. We fully expected Jalen Lowe to leave because they were pursuing other point guards. Jasper, I expected him to leave because it didn't go away with him this year.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Brandon was the one guy I thought maybe, Pope loves him so much, it appears, maybe he might stick around. I agree with Ryan. Of the three, I could have seen Brandon Garrison coming back, but I didn't expect Lowe or Jasper. I think when we played the percentage game, we had Jasper at one. I had three. That's true.
Starting point is 00:12:54 He had a little more faith. But I think we all believe he needs a fresh start somewhere. I'm not surprised. I mean, Jasper John, well, let's start with J. I think Kentucky has just decided that he can't be the certain starting point guard. not even because how he plays, I just think a durability slash fit part of it. You know, there's been a lot of talk about sort of chemistry and all that, and I want to get to that when we talk about the behind the scenes thing.
Starting point is 00:13:27 But I do think certainly early in the year, the Jalen Lowe, it just wasn't working from a chemistry perspective on and off the court. I think that got better, actually, as the year went on. but it just didn't make sense to bring him back and be the certain starting point guard. And if you're Jalen Lowe, you're not coming back to back up somewhere. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:47 So like basketball guys may say Lowe is such a ball dominant point guard. It just didn't work with what Pope tries to do. But I mean, to be fair, he only play like four games. I mean, I do think when you make broad judgments about how he played, he only played a handful of games.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Yeah. So that would be hard to know. But I also understand why you wouldn't want to rely on it. So he's gone. Jasper Johnson. I'm sad to see it, but it just didn't work out. Didn't work out. It just didn't work out.
Starting point is 00:14:15 And I don't blame anybody, but it didn't work out, right? Isn't that the takeaway? Yeah, I mean, you know, they're saying that people thought in his head, maybe he'd want to give it a redo it, Kentucky to prove he can do it, but I just think he's best suited with a fresh start somewhere. Pope's offense with all the ball movement. Jasper's more of a guy that kind of needs to be in control a little bit and go get his own buckets. He was a lot like Jay-loh.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Yeah. in some ways. I mean, Jalen Lowe's maybe more of a traditional point guard. Jasper's more of a score. But it's the same issue in some ways, right? That and this year, and I worried about this going to the season,
Starting point is 00:14:47 but he just doesn't have the size to go into the SEC. And, you know, he can't even get to his own spots, can't really defend. We got to later in the year, he couldn't even bring the ball up the court. So I just think a reset would be good for him overall. And, you know, there's no other people that have been very critical of them.
Starting point is 00:14:59 But I think 99% of the fan base is rooting for him in his next stop. You obviously huge fan. supporter of the kid known him a long time. Were you sad to see the news or do you think it's the best? I was sad because it just didn't work out here for him. And I know he wanted it to. I know his family wanted it to. It just didn't work.
Starting point is 00:15:16 He's recruited to come here as a two guard, got forced to be at the backup point guard. I want him to succeed somewhere. I think there's bigger and better days ahead for that kid. I got disgusted by some of our fans what they were saying online after he announced he was transferring. I mean, it's embarrassing, has some of our fans reacted to that. I agree with you. I feel like I keep saying I want to talk about that.
Starting point is 00:15:39 But the online thing is a different. At some point, we have to say, we've got to stop acting like 30, 50, 100 people online is the representation of the fan base. I'm kind of tired, to be honest, of a big blue nation being like, well, there's 100 loud people online. So Kentucky fans stay. You're never going to be able to get people online to be nice. Correct. Right. Like, that's just not going to happen.
Starting point is 00:16:03 That's how we live today. That's how the world is today. And the social media platforms, that's a whole other issue. that, like, to me, is a big issue in society, but it stinks. And it does stink for Jasper, especially a Kentucky kid who wanted to play here. And it seems like an awesome kid. It stinks it didn't work. But it also didn't work.
Starting point is 00:16:26 And I don't, I mean, am I wrong? No. It didn't work. He's one of those guys I wish could do a do-over. I think-I don't disagree with you. Yes. Maybe it could have worked in a different scenario. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Yep. But it didn't work this past year. It didn't work. And I hate that. Me too. I hate that it didn't work. I wanted it to work, especially with that family. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:46 We wanted it to work. But it did. Now, Brandon Garrison, two years. I actually think people will remember him more fondly because of the last couple games. That's me. I'm in the camp. Yeah. I mean, the Santa Clara game and then one of the SEC tournament games.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Wednesday at the SEC tournament. Like, we'll have some good memories of him, right? It was BG time occasionally. That was just the BG experience. I mean, going back to his first year at Kentucky, he had some amazing games. At Oklahoma, he was like guarding everybody, guarding all five spots. When he first got bench from Reno this past season, he played his best game coming off the bench.
Starting point is 00:17:23 So he had his highs. I just think Pope invested too much in him and kind of believed in him more than Brandon was capable of being consistent. Like Pope brought that guy back to start on this team. Pope thought he would be the start. And you have to remember what Brandon's role needs to be a bench guy. What Pope envisioned this team be? I think was Jaylen Lowe at the point, Otego away, Mo Diabate and Brandon Garrison,
Starting point is 00:17:47 and then someone at the three. Maybe Chandler. I mean, at times I think he thought Noah might be that person. Right? It didn't end up working out. But he thought Garrison was going to be a starting center. And Garrison just, Ryan, didn't improve enough, I think, for that to make sense.
Starting point is 00:18:05 So honestly, I think it's better for him and for the team that he's probably in the portal too. Like you said, though, my memories of him will be nothing but great now because what happened in the SEC tournament? Well, yeah. Really? I kind of hate to see the guy go. Let me ask you a question. If Ryan Lemon was in charge of the roster. Yes. Because you've already said you wish Jasper would have a do-over. And you wish Brandon when your memories are great. Would you just keep everyone? Like if you were the GM, would you keep this entire roster and basically run it back without O'Way in Aberdeen and add two people? Well, I got to add two dudes.
Starting point is 00:18:40 I got to get dudes because I'm not losing. I mean, we had two dudes. And we weren't losing them. But we had two dudes and we weren't good. But I'm going to get two better dudes. You're going to get better dudes than a... I'm worried about finding better than those two. No, but I do think that's important to like think about.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Yeah. This team didn't work. If you brought these guys back, it wasn't going to work. And actually, I guess we could even say, say our top four dude with Low and Quaintons, and then O.A. and Aberdeen, those were our four top dudes. We lose all four of them. Yeah, but Quaintains didn't play.
Starting point is 00:19:14 I mean, I, you know. With Garrison, whatever they paid, it was in the millions. If he's coming back, you have to sit him down, be like, we're not paying you a fraction of that this year, and you're the seventh or eighth man. In that case, we'd love to have you back. But in Brandon's side, he can't accept that
Starting point is 00:19:28 because he could probably go out and get better. Yeah. But I don't think UK can, you can't run this back. You can't. Look what happened. But you're saying like you want to run it back. Well, I feel a fondness for these guys, for sure. I feel a fondness for Brandon now after what he did in March Madden.
Starting point is 00:19:43 I don't know why I just do. But you can't both, but I get it, but you have to make decisions. Like you can't just go, this didn't work, but I feel fondness, so I wish it worked. If you're the GM of the team, are you bringing these guys back? Low Garrison and Jasper. Are you bringing them back? It's a, it's, you can't, this is not, to some extent, this is not a touchy-feely. We all, like, if it's touchy-feely, we all want him back.
Starting point is 00:20:14 We would all love to see all these guys do, but you have to decide whether you're bringing these guys back. I don't disagree with any of Pope's decisions here. Do you? No. Okay, so you do agree that we should have gotten rid of. From a coaching perspective, I'm just saying, yeah, just my personal beliefs that I wish Brandon would come back and be our reserve off the bench, that guy. Not a starter. We got to go get a big man starter with Malachi.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Brandon's our guy off the bench. Yeah. Well, I think Drew's right. That wasn't going to happen. So now, we don't know about Noah. I haven't even heard his name mentioned. I mean, I don't have great scoop on the whole team or anything, but I've heard a little bit about each person.
Starting point is 00:20:53 I've not heard a peep about Trin. I haven't either. Have you? No, nothing. Nothing. I have no idea if he's thinking about coming back or not. I mean, I think these guys, if they're, the good thing about the portal entry, having been two weeks after the end of it, remember last year, well, that wasn't like that. The portal was already open.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Already open. These guys know now, or at least very close to know. I mean, if someone's definitely leaving, I think we're going to find out tomorrow. Yeah, I think so. Because they're going to have their name in the mix. Exactly. They're going to want to be like early on getting the mix. So like, Noah, I think we know tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Let's just go through. Do you think he comes back? No. But you don't know. I don't know. Okay. What about you? I'll say yes, because I've just made up a scenario where he wants to keep wearing the jersey and he'd make more money here than anywhere else.
Starting point is 00:21:43 But, you know, if he wants to go get shots and play a lot of minutes, he doesn't need to come back because I don't think that role is going to be there for him. I have no idea. Yeah. But I'm just going to guess, no, but it's a complete guess. Diabate. By the way, well, I have a strong opinion what I think this is, but go ahead. I don't think he's coming back.
Starting point is 00:22:00 I have no idea, but I just feel like. he's going to probably just chase a bag and get money to go somewhere else. I think Diabate is strictly negotiation. I think it's going to be, I think that's probably going to happen one way or the other today. I think UK would like him back. I think he probably would like more money than UK wants to pay right now, and it'll just be whether or not they can get an agreement. That's simple, and we'll probably know tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:22:24 I kind of agree with that. If you'd asked me in January, I'd heard he was really interested in the second year, of course, it would still have to come down on the negotiating table. But now I think Pope with all these guys has to look at him, be like, look, we paid you a lot of money last year, and you're probably not going to get that dollar amount this season. And if they want to agree to run it back at a lower rate, then you'll see it. But I don't think many of them will agree to do that. Chandler. That's a tough one, man.
Starting point is 00:22:47 You know, if he's thinking about going back home for a couple years and playing. Do we have any proof that he's thinking about going back home beyond random internet account saying it? I don't think so. I don't expect him to leave. I don't think they could afford him. I, he's here. Yeah. Like, why do people think, and again, can things change?
Starting point is 00:23:05 But what is the evidence that he's not here? Like, I just keep people keep saying, well, his wife or the, how do people know that? I don't know. Like, what are you talking about? Also, if you want to play basketball for your life, you're not going to be living at home ever. They're going to be bouncing around a lot. I mean, I will tell you, when I was in D.C., all the national people think the Chandler deal is done. Like that he's here.
Starting point is 00:23:29 here. Good. A couple people asked me, like, you know Chandler's back, right? And I said, well, I haven't heard that. And they go, yeah, his, I mean, they were like, his people all say he's back. So, I mean, I would love for him to say that publicly. It would be nice, wouldn't it? But I don't know where all the angst online has come from Chandler. I kind of tried to research yesterday. Why do people think he might go to BYU? And I think it's just because he's Mormon. Like, I don't, I don't know that there's any other evidence beyond that, is there? And people keep saying, BYU. He grew up a fan of Utah, like the Utes.
Starting point is 00:24:03 So, like, if anything, maybe you look at the Uts, but they can't pay. I mean, Kentucky's going to take good care of Chandler. I mean, he's going to be a big piece of next year. And I think he trusts Pope and everything that's out of here. So we think he's back. I would be pretty surprised. Moreno, I'm going to look at you because you have acted like you knew. You have had been like sneaky snake dancing with Moreno all year.
Starting point is 00:24:23 I think he's back. Yeah, I think some things. Oh, so you haven't been that confident before. Maybe right before you left. I think I'd heard where things were going to happen. They're going to keep him. They're going to make sure they keep him. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:33 So I think what's going to happen with Moreno, he will enter the draft to go through the combine, but with every intention of return. Coming back. So unless he went to the combine and was told you're a lottery pick, he's probably back. So I think people should expect him to go through the draft process. But I think with the experience,
Starting point is 00:24:57 expectation he'll be back and if he and assuming he comes back to college basketball, Drew, I think he will be playing. I agree with that and I think you should go through the process. We saw for years guys do that and come back. I mean, old age just did it last year. So I think Marino should do that. I don't hope fans won't overreact to it because I don't think he'd get
Starting point is 00:25:13 the feedback he'd want to leave right away. I expect him and so I do think people should prepare themselves for that announcement. Okay. But don't jump off the bridge. And that's good though. But that's good. But I think It is unless all of a sudden he's a lottery pick, I expect him to be back. So Moreno, Chandler, Mason Williams, who I'm going to admit I know nothing about,
Starting point is 00:25:34 except that he's Moe Williams son. And I don't know. I've never seen him. I don't know who he is. I'm glad we have another Williams that we need a lot of Williams's. It's the most popular last name in America, as you would know if you went to Matt Jones Trivia. Oh, I didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:25:50 Yeah. Top 10 last names in America. It's like Williams, Jones, Smith. Rodriguez, Garcia. What were the others? Do you remember? Huh? Did you say.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Lemon was not one of them. I was Williams, Jones, Smith, Garcia Rodriguez, and then there were five more. But anyway, Williams is actually number one now. And you know it by our roster. What about Cam Williams? Don't know. I know Kentucky wants him,
Starting point is 00:26:18 but I think it's completely up and near. I think that's the one the people around the program are the least clear about. I think that will honestly be determined today's a big day. Today is the day that as I understand it, the guys that are on the roster now, it's like a you make a deal or not today. And really I think that's Cam Williams, Mo Diabate and Trent Noah. I don't have a sense of what Trent Noah's situation is. I do think when it comes to Cam Williams and Modiabate, Kentucky would like to have those guys. And
Starting point is 00:26:55 but it's going to be about if the two sides can come to an agreement. And they may like to have Noah too. I just haven't gotten, I don't know about Noah. I just don't know. And Williams and even Diabate with the position they play, they're probably looking at Pope like, hey, you're getting tired of Stokes or not.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Like Cam Williams is probably going to leave if they load up on the wing and go get a star. So, I mean, Cam especially probably has to fill out what UK is going to have in front of him and how much he'll have to compete for that job. So I have a, I feel confident that. Moreno, Chandler, Mason Williams. Is Hawthorne?
Starting point is 00:27:30 He's the name that hasn't come up. I assume he, I don't know. Is he, I think he'll be looking around a little bit. What about Yelovich? I haven't heard anything about Yelovich. No, if I had to guess, I'd say he's leaving. I would guess. I don't think you can run it back with him as a starter.
Starting point is 00:27:44 So it's like I said with the other guys, it's like, hey man, if you want to be second dude off the bench and take a pay cut, we'd love to have you. What's the story about him playing basketball against a group of students? Yeah, it's not a good look. They were, Yellovich Hawthorne and Potter went to the Johnson Center and lost a picket again. Well, were they trying? Well, that I don't know. I don't know why they said it.
Starting point is 00:28:00 They said it into a microphone. Just don't tell people you lost. We never would have known. It's a dude from the colonel. Yeah, but they admitted to losing. A dude from the colonel sticks his nose into things. Who is that? He looks like he's like 13, but he's always interviewing people and being like,
Starting point is 00:28:14 he'll like come up to a person and be like, are you pro choice or pro life? Do you like nerd gummy clusters? Like, whoa, those two questions have nothing to do with the. Yeah. is a reporter. I wish our players would have just not admitted that, though. So they admitted they got beat. Yes.
Starting point is 00:28:27 At the Johnson Center. Yeah, keep that one to yourself. All right. Well, Tycock catch up. Hopefully this is sounding good. Rick, is it? It sounds pretty good. All right, we'll be right back.
Starting point is 00:28:39 All right. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280 2287. Text machine is 772-75-25-4. All right, so while I was gone as well, we had a documentary about the UK basketball season, right?
Starting point is 00:28:55 The least important thing, but the one that I heard, at least from you all, is that they showed my apartment, my old apartment. Am I correct about this? It did. Looks like the kitchen's been redone since you live there. So that was my apartment on the documentary.
Starting point is 00:29:12 It's definitely been updated since you lived there. So apparently where Colin Chandler lives now. With his wife. with his wife. That's where I lived. That's your old place. So now I feel like we can say this, right? Can we say this now?
Starting point is 00:29:27 Yeah. So I lived there for a while, and then I got replaced by Oscar. Not Oscar Combs. Yes, by Oscar Combs. They moved Oscar Combs in there. No, I left, and then Oscar Sheewe lived there for, a year. About a year and a half maybe, wasn't it? And then I didn't know what happened after that
Starting point is 00:29:54 and you all told me in the documentary that now Colin Chandler lives there. I've known all year that Colin lives there. Why have you never told me this? I have told you this. I think we told you one time, yeah. For some reason it didn't process. So Colin Chandler's in my own place. So how did it look on the documentary? Look clean. Did it have all the mirrors? Mirrors were there. But they've hung some pictures. Oh, I didn't do that. Yeah. Maybe it looks like someone might. of run a vacuum. No. The kitchen looked good, but yeah, it goes right up the steps.
Starting point is 00:30:24 It has so many mirrors. I didn't see 300 pairs of shoes all on the floor. Place looks good. Well, good. Looks real good. Well, now I want to see it. It's a famous apartment complex. Yeah, wow.
Starting point is 00:30:35 So that was, Doron and I lived in a lot. So yeah, for people who don't know, that apartment complex, Drew has lived there. Duran Lamb. Because Drew got his old mattress. Yep. I lived there.
Starting point is 00:30:48 then Oscar replaced me and then now Colin Chandler is there and if you want to go way back when I lived there Rodney Dent lived a couple doors down Rodney Dent lived there okay lot going on over there like going on across from the Applebee's
Starting point is 00:31:02 yeah but well that's exciting so tell me about the documentary I've seen clips online but I haven't gotten to watch the whole thing because I was in the airport flying when it was on good it kind of gives a person who's not a Kentucky fan
Starting point is 00:31:17 it gives you an idea what being a Kentucky fan's all about. You know, the lows, you're pretty low, the highs are pretty high. My big takeaway was that whole Gonzaga series where they showed the fans booing our team and how Pope kind of almost got choked up talking about it after the game. So I saw that clip. With Todd Harris. Worldwide Todd Harris yelling at the guy. Go get him, Todd.
Starting point is 00:31:36 That's the best part of the whole documentary. But, yeah, I mean, first of all heard us on this show over the years talking about worldwide Todd Harris. And you're probably like, who's worldwide Todd Harris? And we said, you know, he's worldwide because like Worldwide West, he's. everywhere he's everywhere well he ends up in the documentary because the guy booing worldwide todd harris is on the floor challenging to a fight he's saying get out of here if you're not going to cheer up at the team no he was like bring it on i got a quarter zip i have a quarter zip you want some we need more todd harris is like that keeping the fan base
Starting point is 00:32:08 in check uh it did pope did get emotional he did i actually thought though pope the clip i saw where he was talking about fan negativity. I actually thought he gave a really good answer because he was basically like, obviously we don't like it, but they care and that caring is important, which I think is exactly what you should say. Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:27 I don't think fans should boo. We said that at the time. I think booing is bad. At the same time, it was a unique situation. All those fans had gone there. They lose by 35. I was there and it was expensive to go. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:41 And so, but I liked, I think Pope handled that. answer actually very well. But I also can't lie that I laugh that worldwide Todd Harris is on there screaming. Get out of here if you're not going to cheer for the team. You know, we know Todd. We talk to him all the time. He's never mentioned that that he got in a screaming match. I didn't know he's going to be on CBS until, I mean, he probably didn't think that that
Starting point is 00:33:03 that was going to end up on the documentary. Was there any news that came out of it? Was there anything that, like, did they, what do you say about the Louisville thing? If you're a Kentucky fan that sat down to learn something, you didn't get anything. I mean, they blew right over the Louisville game. Pope is an interview talking about it. He kind of doesn't. He gave the same answer he did then.
Starting point is 00:33:23 Just kind of said the guys were too hyped too early. I mean, I said they were like fighting John with fans. John's fans, but we knew that at the time. He said that then. If you were looking for some real answers, it didn't have anything. They didn't really have anything. No. Was there anything good from the Santa Clara?
Starting point is 00:33:38 Like a celebration video. I enjoyed that because they showed Otega and his mom embracing after the game. Oh, that's cool. That was kind of cool. The Oetega Angle with his mom, they did a couple times. They're really kind of cool. But after the Santa Clara game, they got to have a moment back. Is there anywhere to watch it? I watched it on, because I didn't watch it live.
Starting point is 00:33:54 I watched it on Paramount app. Oh, is it on Paramount Plus? I just pulled it up on demand. I didn't have it recorded me. Well, I'll go watch it. I'll just see how my apartment's driving. There was also Michael and Malachi on the couch. You could tell they were setting up the LSU games.
Starting point is 00:34:06 It was cool going back in time. They were talking, and then they go straight into Baton Rouge with the Malachi, late in her shot. That was cool. Tom Leach was interviewed a lot. Tom did a good job. But overall, like, if you sat down, like, I'm going to get some answers about this year. If you were tuned in all year to what was going on, you didn't learn anything new.
Starting point is 00:34:21 Okay. It was still pretty good, though. I would love this. I'd like to see it and see what that's like. Now, the other thing, so you have to understand. I went to the Duke, Connecticut, all those, St. Johns, all those games in D.C. I was there on Sunday. then like the rest of the week I was doing some things but I was just pretty chill and then I'm sitting there on Thursday eating lunch and you know I always have my phone and I was like I'm gonna have lunch I'm having lunch with a friend turn it upside down and then I turned it over and you know had like 10 phone calls and I'm like the tweet went out what is this and then I see the tweet has gone out about me
Starting point is 00:35:11 and Myron potentially taking a job at ESPN Radio. What was weird is it didn't feel like UK fans had seen it. It was like media people. And then I think later that night, maybe Oscar retweeted it. That's when the Kentucky fans saw it. And that's when the Kentucky fans saw it. But like I had dealt, had to deal with a day of it where it didn't feel like Kentucky fans. Did you all see it?
Starting point is 00:35:36 I don't think I saw it till that evening. I had people send it to me. kind of like, hey, what's this? But it wasn't like an overwhelm. Like my phone didn't blow up. I mean, just a few people texted. That was a really weird thing because I've never had that happen where like something gets out and I had no idea that it was coming. So then, of course, like everybody's right.
Starting point is 00:35:58 So I just wanted to say, I didn't say anything about it because really there's nothing to say. Right. Like I think that story said that we were. are like leading candidates for this job, I don't know. I mean, if they say so, I don't know. I, I don't know. I mean, we've had conversations with ESPN and, you know, we'll see. There's nothing that I, there's nothing I can really say. It was one of those like, oh, well, no one told me. So I don't know, I don't know, to be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:36:43 Now, what I can say with confidence is no matter what happens with that or with any other particular job. By the way, I've been up and considered a lot of jobs over the last 10 years, including with a number of companies that you know and I just have decided not to do it or maybe they've decided not to do it. So, but the one thing I can tell you is this show will continue with me on it no matter what. Okay, no matter what I decide to do or what someone asked me to do, we'll still be doing this. Now, could it change in terms of time of day? Yeah, it could, depending on what happens. But it will still be around and it will still exist and it will still have me on it. but I know I've had since Oscar tweeted it 500 people write me and go are you going to say something
Starting point is 00:37:38 I don't really have anything to say because the story said I was the leading candidate but doesn't mean you have the job and I found out I was the leading candidate from the story you think ESPN leaked it out to somebody I have no idea I mean it didn't come from me I know that didn't come from I would very highly doubt it came from myron because myron's at the Final Four, and all of a sudden he gets people like, and he's, where's this coming from? He's just trying to write about Dusty Man. And I called me and was like, did you say it? And I was like, no, I thought you said it.
Starting point is 00:38:11 So anyway, we'll see. Well, after Oscar's tweet, like Drew said, we got a bunch of people asking us worried about what would happen to this show. This show will, the only reason I'm bringing this up is I do think it's important for people to know, this show will still exist. I did hear through the Great Vine that Louisville Media was like dancing that this show was going to go away. Well, you're going to have to stop dance.
Starting point is 00:38:38 There are no more dance. I mean, you can dance if you want. We will still exist. And if you're not careful, we'll come up against you. Yeah, watch your time slots. Remember, like, y'all have avoided this time slot over the years. Well, we'll just come to you if you want because that could be what ends up happening depending on what time of day you're on.
Starting point is 00:38:57 I feel like we can probably just knowing you eliminate a 6 a.m. KS.R. morning drive situation. I think that's fair. Just knowing you a little bit. I think it's fair to say it won't be on before this. I'm not a big getter-upper
Starting point is 00:39:13 early in the morning. So if you're trying to guess, I can be fair to say it won't occur before 10 a.m. We're all behind you. We support you. There's a great, could be a great opportunity for you in Myron. we'll follow you wherever you go. If you go to one in the morning,
Starting point is 00:39:27 two in the morning, six in the morning, we'll follow you along. Well, that's nice of you. Are you speaking for everyone? I'm speaking for everyone. Ron's the most worried person I know. I will say we did,
Starting point is 00:39:38 Drew, we did a Zoom. I wanted to tell everybody myself. Yeah. What was going on. And we zoomed the whole KSR group. And it looked like Ryan was going to poop his pants. He's just worried.
Starting point is 00:39:53 Ryan had a look. Ryan had a look of terror. Why didn't you just, because we didn't do that until Friday, why didn't you just call? You seemed so, I could tell on the call. You've got my phone number. Yeah. I didn't want to bother you on vacation.
Starting point is 00:40:09 I know we'd talk when you came back. I've just said to say my prayers. Can I tell you my favorite part of the Zoom? Yes. When Ryan had to leave early to do a radio hit and he couldn't turn off the Zoom. It reminded me the old, remember the old Periscope days? That was great. Rick, let me ask you a question.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Let me bring Rick on. Shannon's out this week. Rick, if you were on a Zoom call and you needed to leave, what would you do? I'd probably say I need to go poop. That was not what he needed to do. Rick, would you say, though, like, I'm going to go, and let's say you couldn't get the Zoom to turn off. What would you do?
Starting point is 00:40:49 Oh, geez. Make a sign and put it in front of the computer and say, we'll be back in a few minutes. Okay, here's another thing. Just turn your phone off. That's what I ended up doing. I couldn't find the eject button. Ryan was just like, how do I get out of here?
Starting point is 00:41:05 What do I do? And I was like, just exit the phone call. And you're like, I don't know how. Just turn the app off. Like you were freaking out about how to get off the, you literally, any phone call, you can just hit the power button. I thought on the Zoom call there would be like a red button to get out of here. It says leave.
Starting point is 00:41:22 And I didn't have it. I wasn't there. I had your five faces on my screen in no other place. It was a throwback to the Periscope days for the long time, KSR people, and you could never turn off your periscope and you would just be hitting your phone. That is true. I guess I did that. Grilling season is here and you could stock up with Noche Linda Farms beef.
Starting point is 00:41:39 How good is it? Well, here's a recent Google review. Five stars is absolutely deserved. From the start, the customer services have been amazing, and that alone made a great impression. Having tried the burgers at KSpar, I purchased a sampler box, and it was amazing. amazing. The quality is apparent. I can't imagine buying from a grocery store ever again. And I've started a monthly subscription. It's really that good. And it's Noche Linda Farms. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Starting point is 00:44:45 Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:45:04 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
Starting point is 00:45:20 we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court,
Starting point is 00:45:36 and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio 859-2-8-2-287. If you have questions, the text machine is 772-7-7. 745-254. I'm glad to answer more comments. Got to get people back in the text machine flow. One person writes, Matt, what players do you think from the portal are interested with us?
Starting point is 00:46:03 I honestly don't know. We, I'm going to have conversations this afternoon where I think by tonight I'll have a better idea of who's Kentucky is going after. I haven't gotten to have those, but I think I'll have them tonight. So I think I'll have a better idea. The only person I know, and I don't know if he's entered the portal yet. Has the kid from Syracuse entered the portal? The point guard? No.
Starting point is 00:46:31 I haven't seen it yet. Freeman. Yeah, Donnie Freeman. I don't know if he hasn't entered the portal, then I didn't say that. A big one just hit the portal during the break, though, to watch. Blackwell from Wisconsin. Kentucky wants him, but so does everybody. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:44 So I think, like, Duke's going to want him. I don't know if we, I don't know if we'll get it. but I think the kid from Syracuse, I'm fairly certain they're very interesting to him. Freeman? Yeah. And Blackwell, there's, you know, all the internet rumors are spurring saying Kentucky's prepared to make him a rich man
Starting point is 00:47:01 if he wants to come here. And I mean, he still has to make that decision that is one to watch. He might be the best guard in the portal now. Yeah, he would be your, he, I just heard Freeman's name this morning. What positions he play? He's more like a guard forward, big forward.
Starting point is 00:47:15 Can he shoot? That's what I want. Are there people that can shoot? No, he can't really shoot. Well, good. That's what we need. And then Caden Lewis is in the portal. He can't really shoot either, but I know a lot of players want him.
Starting point is 00:47:24 Yeah. He shot 56% from the free throw line. That's crazy for a guard playing. He shot 56% from the free throw line. Starting every single game. I'm out. A Caden Lewis? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:35 Yeah. I'm out. So I do think I'll have a better idea on that stuff. On that stuff later. One person writes, Matt, I listened to you yesterday on your show with Myron with Tim Welsh. He sounded like you all fought the whole time. No, but that was unique doing a show with that guy. Yeah. I liked him a lot. He's a nice guy, but he's like, I couldn't tell for a long time if he, if he liked me. Just argumentative a lot? No, I just think like he's a coach. And you know how coaches
Starting point is 00:48:09 are, like they take up for coach? Like, we had to argue. I would encourage everyone to go listen to the last 10 minutes of hour one yesterday. Okay. We're talking about Gino R. E.M. And I went back and listened to it this morning. And it was a little more tense than I realized in the moment. In the moment, I thought like we were just playing around. And then when you listen back to it, you're like, oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:48:34 But we had a good show. We interviewed, I interviewed Jim Calhoun yesterday. Oh, wow. That's on hour three. And he said, like, he said a word. that you can't say on the radio, but he said it. Really? Yeah. I don't see it doesn't surprise me from him coming from.
Starting point is 00:48:50 He never does interviews, but he likes Tim. So he did it. And so I interviewed Jim Calhoun, Karam Butler. Like, we had a, we had all kinds of people. But go back and listen to our Gino Don Staley comment. By the way, what did you think of that? It was a bad look for Gino. I thought he came across as a sorry whiny loser.
Starting point is 00:49:09 So did I. What's wrong with you, Gino? Like, he kept wine. I was watching the guy. game live. And when he did that third quarter interview, I was like, dude, what is up with you? And then at the end, by the way, have you seen the clip from the other side? You can kind of read their lips? Well, you can read their lips. Don Staley's sitting there going, I will kick Gino's ass. And I believe she would. I believe it.
Starting point is 00:49:32 I would put money on her in that fight. I wouldn't mess with that woman, would you? No, I'm all in on Don Staley on the side. Gino. And of all people, shocked me coming from him. And then he apologized to the staff, but not her. I mean, that was our argument, me and Tim Welsh. He was like, well, he apologized to the staff. And I said, yeah, but he didn't yell at the staff. He yelled at Don Staley. Yes.
Starting point is 00:49:54 You didn't say her name. And he was like, well, that includes the Don Staley. I was like, come on, Tim. Tim. And he didn't, he's not going to, he didn't want to criticize him. And so it was. You know, he came off as a sore loser. Gino, obviously one of the, maybe the best women's college coach of all time.
Starting point is 00:50:09 But from here on out, when I hear his name, I want to think of him yelling at Don Staley. Yeah, my jersey was. Stay torn! Well, your own player tore the jersey. I was all for Don Stap. Me too. I kind of wanted the fight. And she was like...
Starting point is 00:50:25 Oh, she would have killed him. She was like, she said I will kick his ass like 10 times. Yes, she did. You know what Myron said on the show? Myron said, Gino's lucky that they held Don back. Because there were some people that would have come out of the crowd without a social security number after.
Starting point is 00:50:44 I was like, okay, South Carolina. I wouldn't mind, listen. But I'm like, Gino, I hate looking at people wine. You've won 12 titles. And when he beat her last year, it's all this big hug and this love fest. He's always like that. When he's getting his butt kicked, you know, he's throwing a fit. Yeah, when they win, oh, you're a great team when they lose.
