We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, A, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Dude. Hey, Rhett, my mama want you to weigh better.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.

Welcome, everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio.
I am Matt Jones, Thursday, April the 9th here in Lexington, Kentucky,
and you can give us a shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, 859-2802287.
A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7474.
5254.
And this is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office.
If you call T.J.
He'll make them pay.
It is a virtual remote.
It is.
We were going to be in person and then technical difficulties and other things made it impossible.
So this is our KSR Bowling League remote.
Let's go.
Yeah.
So for people who don't know, the KSR Bowling League is back.
It's back.
It's back.
Starting April 29th through July 22nd, you can bowl with.
your KSR friends and in a bowling league, all levels, sizes, abilities.
Yes.
Are allowed to play.
April 29th is the first week.
If we get a 36 team sellout, they'll have over $10,000 in prices.
Oh, wow.
We got to get that.
If we have the seller.
Yeah.
But otherwise, there'll still be prices.
It's been sold out in the past.
It has.
Now, you can pay weekly.
So if you can't come every week, you could do the weekly.
Or you can do an entire 12-week package.
It's at Southland Bowling Lanes.
You can learn more at KSR bowling.com.
Now, we've done this in years past.
Yes, we have.
And then after COVID, we did it a couple times.
It wasn't completely, everybody's schedules were weird.
But this summer, we are going to do it,
and we're going to have KSR teams.
Remember in years past, we had Vince Mero.
Yes.
And other people show up.
Hopefully we could have some of the new football coaches come during the period.
That'd be cool.
We have to ask them, obviously.
If not, all of our various KSR community will be out there.
The football coaches are going to take us bowling, so we should take them bowling this summer.
I like the thought process.
I do.
So KSR bowling.com, the first meeting night is the 22nd, and that's like just to kind of practice and meet.
And apparently they'll have pizza.
Their pizza is really good at Southland Bowling.
Oh, and there's, in April 22nd, it's free bowling.
Oh, there you go.
for people who are going to be in the league, and it starts on the 29.
So in years past, we've had crazy team names.
Sometimes people made uniforms.
The betty boobs are always there.
Oh, the betty boobs.
So KSR bowling.com, I would suggest for the ladies of KSR group, you all should get a team.
They definitely should get a team.
The guys, if you want to do it, young, old, KSR bowling.com, I'll be at the first one,
and we'll have someone there at all of them.
And I'm going to go to a few of them this year because I need to practice my
practice your bowling.
Yeah, because you, first of all, you need to hush.
You were the worst of the group.
Drew said Drew is pretty good.
I was usually second.
You were the worst.
We'll get Tom Leach.
Remember when Tom Leach?
I had a great time with Tom.
I spent the whole time just asking Tom stories.
I didn't want to bowl.
Yeah.
Coach Mign Geon played with us one time.
Coach Migno, I bet we could get him again.
And I've been watching Born to Bowls, so I feel like I'm ready.
I feel like I'm guppy troop over here.
You bring the new baby.
Of course.
I don't think you pick up the ball, though.
Probably won't let her bowl, but surely she can eat a little Southland's pizza.
Now, so Brian's not wrong.
That's some of the best pizza in Lexington.
It's really good.
So KSR bowling.com, check it out.
We'll be talking more about this show goes on.
Now, you, we're going to talk a little bit later about the Masters,
but for people who don't know, we had mentioned on our podcast yesterday interrupted,
that Drew is required to name his baby the first name of whoever went.
the mask. Yes. Required as in, I told Abby, that's what I want to do. And I'm sure she's fine with it.
A girl. Yes. At this very moment, the leader is Jose Maria Oletabal. Which is the one I wanted from the
beginning. So Jose Maria, I think you could even drop Jose. Yeah. Maria Franklin. I like
Jose Maria. Jose Maria Franklin. I am rooting for, he's got, what's he? He's in his 60s. How old is Jose
Jose's got to be 90? I joked for a month that he's going to be the winner and I'm going to have to
name her Jose Maria and to see that he's leading this morning makes me happier than anything.
Jose Maria Franklin.
Like Scotty, no, Rory, no.
Got a little roll to it.
I kind of like it.
Jose Maria and who's in second?
Oh, I have to pull that up.
Hopefully, Siwu or Hedekke or Ludwig.
Siwu, Franklin would be another really good one.
Sam Burns.
Sam, that's, no, no.
Samantha.
Yeah.
Sam.
Too normal.
I kind of think Sam would be pretty.
Let's go, Akshay.
Come on, Akshay.
Akshay. Well, we will be keeping up with the leaderboard to see. So this is going to be an Ask Anything Thursday. I've got topics, but like none of them are except for the first one really all that extensive. So it's portal season. It's also off season. It's a good chance to ask anything. 859-280-2287. Phone lines are open. I can see them. Rick's ready to answer. You got that trigger finger ready, Rick? You betcha. All right. So there you go.
I love Rick's pause, but excitement.
859-2-80-2287.
But before we do that, I guess the big news is Colin Chandler is in the portal.
He is not going to play for Kentucky next year.
Early reports seem to suggest he went into the portal with a do not contact me,
which I like that.
I'm in the portal, but leave me alone.
I'm on airplane mode.
So that means that he knows where he's going.
And all indications seem to be that it is.
to BYU his home place, even though he grew up a Utah thing.
I was told, and I'm not the only person, other people have said this,
that the assumption had been that he would return amongst UK people.
I think UK staff actually was building a roster with the idea he would be back.
I was told 10 days ago that they thought they had a deal with him.
But apparently, last year, BYU came in and said,
we will give you an increase of money to come here.
And the increase was not significant enough that Colin did.
Gallen was like, well, I think I'll just stay here.
But this year, I think this is one of those things where you just throw,
he threw out a wild number and then they said yes.
And then he went back to UK and UK was like, we, we just, we can't do that.
It would have been an amount of money I am told that would have been the second most
they have paid for a player.
I can do the math to kind of think of what that is,
because I think I know what the highest paid player made.
But, you know, I really wanted him to be here.
I think he's really good.
I think he has a lot of value.
I like Colin, but I don't think he has enough value to be the second highest player,
which depending on who Kentucky gets,
might have made him the highest paid player this year.
There are only a couple guys I think Kentucky's looking at that they would pay more
than they paid their top guy last year.
And if that's so, you can't pay Colin that amount.
So even though I wish he was here,
and I think he'll be really good,
I get it.
What about you?
Yeah, I mean, I obviously wanted Colin to stay.
Last night we turned out the lights on the fan club,
refunded everybody's membership dues.
We're closed.
I wanted him back bad.
I know he's not perfect.
Sure, he can be a better dribbler,
could create a shots better.
But I think about all the winning plays he made late in games.
I mean, the three against Tennessee stands out, but there were several others.
And then his three-point shooting will be hard to replace.
So I think he's going to be, they're going to miss him a lot,
and he would be hard to find somebody to fill that spot on the portal.
However, I like that Pope isn't budging and overpaying for guys now.
I think I like Pope standing his ground and saying, look, I would love to have you,
but I'm not paying that.
I think last year what would happen is these guys would say this, and they would just do it.
And I think this year they're like, all right, you're worth this.
If they'll give you that, then okay, I guess.
I mean, I would guess this is just, there are reports out there.
I can't confirm this is the number.
All I can confirm is second most money.
But there are reports out there.
I think Jack Pilgrim said he asked for 3.2.
I would say, just as a guess, UK was interested in paying him.
It's a guess, but I'm just, I think an educated guess, 1.7, 1.8, maybe two.
I mean, you can't just pay over a million dollars.
extra or it'll hurt you with the other people you got to go get.
So I get it, right.
I'm like everybody else.
I'm kind of shocked, a little surprise because every time we talked about who was coming back,
the first name we always always said was Colin Chandler.
But they need to spend their money and go get dudes.
No disrespect to Colin Chandler.
They need to go get guys better than him.
You don't think he's a dude?
I don't think he can be the dude you're looking for if you're trying to improve yourself
next year.
I don't think he can be your best player.
Yeah.
Can he be your second or third best player on a really good team?
Yes, he can. But I believe he would have been.
I think they still got to go out and get, like I said, all due respect, a couple guys better than him.
And that's what they need that money for.
I think you're probably right.
Yeah, this will be fine if Pope goes and just get someone that can fill that spot.
Well, I said he's replaceable on the court.
I mean, he's very good.
He's not going to be easy to replace.
You might find somebody worse, but he is replaceable.
But I'm bummed because you're right.
He was very clutch.
I mean, he made a bunch of big shots last year.
I mean, there were timely steals.
late in games. It led to O'way getting game winners. I mean, I know it was one-off thing, but that
passed a Marino was insane. I mean, he can't expect him to do that all the time. But, I mean,
he made a lot of memorable plays that helped Kentucky win some tough games. And I think that'll
hurt. And Pope talked a lot about retention after the season. And he specifically named
Yellovich, Moreno, and Chandler, and two of the three are gone. So in Pope's mind,
a month ago, I think he thought he'd have those guys back. But when that number gets put on
the table, I can understand why Pope says, look, man, I can't do that. So when those guys
leave, the question
is going to be what are they
replaced by it? I mean, ultimately, I don't think
you can judge in the portal era.
I don't think you can judge losing
guys until you see who replaces.
If you replace them with somebody equally as
good or better, then what difference does it make?
But if you're replacing them with somebody worse, then it
mattered. So really, we won't know
for a while.
Right. And then we'll find out at that point.
BYU obviously went out and wanted
to get Colin Chambers. Well, they lost their whole
team. Yes. So this is just, this is
just me just guessing.
I think BYU probably offered Chandler about what Kentucky did,
but tried to sell come home.
And then they lost their whole team.
Yeah.
And when they lost their whole team, they went,
well, we got to have a team.
Extra money to spend too.
So then they came and then up the A&T quite a bit.
Yeah, right.
And entering the portal yesterday for them,
he'll be one of the most expensive guards.
But they had like three other people.
And then DeBonce is leaving.
You know, that was a big part of the budget.
Also, part of this is when you overpay everybody last,
year and they come back to the table this year and you're telling them they're going to make less,
you can't expect them to take that.
Yeah, I mean, that's exactly right.
Like if I'm, if I'm mowing your yard for $100 a week and then I show up the next week
and you're like, I'm going to pay you $50.
I'm probably not going to mow your yard.
I mean, it's not paying you $100.
It's true.
You got a big yard though, but I mean, they paid them so well last year that those guys have
an expectation that they would get that or more and Kentucky can't do that again.
You don't want that level of yard.
You got a big yard.
I have a little push mower.
It would take me a while.
Call it 75.
And access to the pool.
Deal.
Okay, I'm in.
Maybe that was a bad analogy, but I'm saying overpaying all these guys last year.
You're saying Mark didn't want to give Colin access to the pool.
Exactly.
But paying them, and this goes for everybody on the team last year, you paid them so much.
You're having to tell them to kind of take a pay cut to come back.
One thing we know is that Derek Johnson was wrong on Pope's ability to relate just to Colin.
Yeah.
So what do you say, those people that are saying that it just goes to prove Pope cannot relate to anybody in the locker room,
especially the one guy that they thought he was connected with?
I don't think anything to do with relating.
I think it was all just money.
First of all, if Pope couldn't relate to anyone in the locker room,
then no one would have come back.
Yeah.
Two guys came back, right?
So this is the modern college basketball.
Now, do I think some coaches can get people to stay maybe easier than others?
Yeah.
And maybe that wasn't Pope last year.
But ultimately, I'm confident that when it comes to Colin,
It was a money thing.
Just think about it like this.
Let's say that you live in Minneapolis,
and you worked when you were in TV for a Minneapolis TV station that you really like.
All right.
And you had developed co-workers you like and that you love Minneapolis, right?
And they're paying you $80,000 a year.
Got an apartment with a nice kitchen.
Then in comes WLAX and says,
we'll give you $80,000, come back to Lexington.
And you'll go, yeah, but I've kind of built a life here in Minneapolis, right?
Yeah.
Like my coworkers, like my job.
I don't think I'm going to do it.
And then the next day they go and come,
once you come home and it's $150,000.
Sign me up.
You're going.
I'm going.
That's enough.
Yep, that's enough.
And so I think that's kind of what this was.
Yeah, I don't blame him at all one bit for wanting to go home.
especially taking that kind of money that's reported.
You can go home and get more money.
Yes.
You do it probably.
Absolutely.
And like said,
anyone that think,
you know,
Pope lost this,
I'm on Pope's side.
If it's truly,
Chandler just had a price,
they can't match because last year got,
little carried away with the money.
I'm glad we're working with the better budget this year.
And I don't blame Chandler,
by the way,
for taking money.
One of the things I see a lot is people go,
you know,
you're being selfish or you just out for the money.
Y'all,
everybody would do the same thing.
Yes,
they would.
I mean,
they would,
especially when you're like at an age
where you haven't made a lot.
Maybe when you've made a lot of money,
you don't care as much about things.
But like, there's no certainty Chandler's a pro.
No.
Right?
There's no, he's also older, you have to remember.
He's, he is fifth year senior age.
And he talks about starting a family.
He's already married.
He's just more mature than a college kid uses.
That's right. He's got a wife.
And bills?
And, yeah.
And a mortgage.
So, you know, I mean, sometimes you got to make it while you can.
I don't blame him for doing it, doing it either.
I don't really blame any of these guys for doing it.
Like, you get one chance in life.
You got to, you do have to look out for yourself if you're these kids.

Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,

Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.

Yeah.
Yeah. Welcome back, Techies Sports Radio.
KSR Bowling League, you get four bowlers on a team.
You also can have four subs.
So if everybody can't come every week because vacation, etc., you can get subs.
But your team will go every week.
There's the handicap leads, which means it's your actual score based on a 230 minus your average times 90%.
I didn't know there'd be math.
There's a lot of math.
Yeah.
I'm out.
Yeah, I don't know what that means.
But they'll just tell you if you win or not.
Oh, it does it for you.
You don't have to sit there and do the math yourself,
but us on the radio show on the fly.
We've had people,
you guys know this,
been in every league from the first from day one.
They keep coming back for this league.
Well, I better see them back at this one, too.
KSR bowling.com,
get going.
All right, so somebody wrote,
this is a good question.
Matt, what do you guys think?
Think about the four teams in the final four.
Arizona, Michigan, Yukon, Illinois.
Does Colin Chandler start for any of them?
Wow.
Does not start for Michigan.
probably doesn't start for Illinois
or excuse me for Arizona.
I don't think he starts for Illinois.
Might start for Illinois, but might not.
Yukon.
Him and Mullen's kind of a lot.
Probably not.
That's an interesting way to look at it.
Yeah, it is.
You know, that's the first time I thought of it like that.
This year's Colin Chandler
probably does not start for any of the Final Four teams.
Now, you look at the Elite 8 teams, he probably would start for Iowa,
probably would have started, I don't know if he just,
he probably would have started or played for Tennessee.
He won us that Tennessee game when he started guarding Nate Amen.
But no, I mean, that's a fair point.
Four teams made the Final Four.
We want to be in the Final Four.
Does Colin Chandler start for any of those teams this year?
Probably not.
Now, would he have started next year?
I don't know.
But like, you've got to think,
the four teams that replace them, would he start for them?
I do think he's due for a big leap next year.
We thought that this year.
I think he made a big leap.
I think he's going to continue to go.
No, that's true.
He did.
I think there's a lot to be in a way for two years and getting your footing back.
That's why his freshman year was kind of started slow and he turned it on right at the end of the season.
It'll stink if he averages 17 a game and he's second team all Big 12 next year.
That'll stink.
It will, but the hope is Pope goes out and we have something we love and we're enjoying.
Did you rhyme that on purpose?
The hope is Pope.
Yeah, I have hope and Pope.
All right.
Well, good.
We do need some booms.
Let's go get some booms.
We need some booms.
A lot of negativity.
I need a boom.
Usually big booms come when I'm distracted.
I sign for my house at one and I'm meeting people all afternoon.
Normally good news comes when I'm not close to my phone.
One to five o'clock, I'm not going to be there.
There you go.
That's the time.
UK, you want to put one.
to me, one to five.
We've been zooming. Now let's start booming.
Let's start booming. Let's zoom in more booming.
All right. Freebird, go for it.
Hey, guys, just sitting here taking some time off watching Andy Griffith.
Question for it.
Of course. That's how you know. Are you retired, Freebird?
No, I'm taking some time off from a major surgery.
Okay, well, good, nothing better than resting with Andy and Barney. Go ahead.
Oh, yes.
Out of the final four teams, you just mentioned,
If we're playing them at their prime, who beats us by 30, who beats us by 15?
Keep it short and sweet.
Michigan, well, okay, are we playing our best?
Is it their best versus our best?
Their best versus our best.
Michigan destroys us, 20 at least.
Arizona, 15, 15 to 20.
You con, I think we could be competitive with, but probably lose 8 to 10.
Illinois, I think we could beat Illinois,
but they also could destroy.
For Illinois, it's all whether or not they're hitting threes.
So if it's their best versus our best, they beat us by 10.
But there are many more worlds we could win games against Illinois
because they can go cold sometimes, Drew, and not be very good.
Yeah, they could go cold.
They have a lot of size that would hurt Kentucky.
But no, I mean, we're distinct underdogs against all of those teams,
if that's your point.
Well, distinct is a good word because, you know, we got to get something.
I don't know what's worse.
Right now when we were on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Yeah, I appreciate the call.
I think that's a little dramatic.
It was worse when we were on the death penalty.
Couldn't even watch the games.
Michigan and Arizona were the only two teams in the tournament.
I thought there's not a scenario we can beat them.
I think anybody else in a given game, you could have beat them.
But you also could have gotten run off the floor.
I don't think there's a way we beat Michigan or Arizona with the way they played.
The way Michigan and Yukon played each other in that championship where they were just getting away with fouls and playing so physical.
I mean, that was a fight.
We wouldn't have stood a chance in that.
No, no, Yukon's better than us, but Yukon lost to like Creighton and Marquette.
Like, they could have been beaten.
Oh, yeah, they have some bad losses.
They have some bad losses.
But that's physicality we wouldn't have been able to stand with in that championship game.
Fake Jamal. Go ahead, sir.
Gentlemen, how are you doing?
I'm good. What's going on?
Is this fake Jamal?
Jamel? I've heard. Yeah, this is fake Jamel.
From like 20 years ago, fake Jamel?
From like making you mad about things I blog.
Yeah. I know that voice. There's a voice from the past.
Hello, old friend. How are you stranger? Like that's from your long time ago, KSR website. What's going on?
Not much, guys. I was, I've been engrossed.
in the technical field, and I have been experimenting with AI.
And I know now, especially with Colin Chandler, leaving the team,
I'm thinking that UK is going to need some more analytics help.
Now, I know they have that one thing.
What was it called Blueprint?
Y'all were talking about that yesterday.
Yes.
So I have developed another tool that I am calling chat, CBG.
What does that stand for?
Let me show you the result.
What I've done is I've taken...
You've got 40 seconds, Jamel.
You've got to make it quick.
All right.
I've taken a former coach,
ingrated all his knowledge into an AI database,
large language model.
And now I'm going to ask him
what his assessment of the team was from last year.
Hang on second.
Add two.
And it says,
As Chad, CGB says, they just weren't tough enough.
Oh, Billy Gillespie.
Coach Billy Gillespie.
It took me a second, but it took, well, they weren't tough enough.
Fake Jamel, it is nice to hear your voice again.
I hope you're doing well.
Doing great.
I'm so glad that you guys are still kicking it, and I'm really proud of y'all's success.
Thank you, Jamel.
Appreciate it.
Well, that's a 15 years ago.
blogger. Like 2009. No kidding.
We'll take a break. Be right back. KSR. He was
the Gillespie. Welcome
back, Tegi Sports Radio.
You know,
you got to go. Like, Ryan,
you didn't even know who fake Jamel was, right?
I had never heard of him. So he
definitely was before my time in 2011
because I didn't know who this guy was.
Yeah, that was way back. That's way back.
Way, way, way back. At the SEC tournament,
we were sort of going through
who are all the people that have ever written
for KSR? And like, we
couldn't come up with all names. We did mention him.
He wrote for a long time.
Did he really for the website?
Yeah, he was kind of like the writer for the nerds.
It was fake Jamil Martinez.
He did.
And he would make people really mad, but some people really liked him.
He had like a very cult following.
It was just, it was a different time in the internet, you know.
He was even before me.
Was he before you?
I mean, we crossed over a lot.
I worked with him a lot, but he started before me.
So, you know, I was the first writer and my friends.
I'm trying to figure out who the first person that wasn't me.
that I added. Were you before
TJ?
No, TJ was before me.
So I guess maybe it was TJ.
Yeah.
TJ was probably the first one.
And then we had all his blogger content.
Oh, no, BT.
I think he's the first.
See, we always forget BTI.
It was he was the first.
That's why I got to stand up.
He was the first because he was working on the radio show that rate.
So yeah.
Wow, that was a blast from the past.
859-28027.
It is Asked Anything Thursday.
So let's just go to Joe.
Go ahead, Joe.
Hey, Matt.
I had a quick thing hit my head the second I saw Colin enter the portal,
and that was the Ted DiBiase theme song,
and that iconic laughter that he used to have.
Yes.
Yeah, I mean, I hate it.
I was, you know, on the bandwagon early with Drew.
Here's my question.
I'm fearful that, yeah, Pope's doing the right thing,
that, you know, we're not overpaying for him because as much as I'd love to keep him,
I think he can be replaced.
But are we doing the exact same thing with Tyron Stokes?
Are we going to overpay for a guy that's just not going to fit, even though he...
Well, I mean, that's a great question.
I mean, I appreciate the call.
If we get Tyron Stokes, I think everyone's going to be really happy.
Number one ranked recruit, we haven't had the number one player in America since Scow?
I think Scow.
Is Scow the...
I mean, how many times did we...
get the number one guy in America. John Wall
was the number one guy in America.
Anthony Davis was.
Carl was, wasn't he?
No. I thought Carl was. I thought Carl was.
Anthony Davis was number two
on one of the sites, too. He wasn't even a consensus.
That's right, the guy that went to
well, I mean, he would. Yeah, he was
still. Yeah, I mean, Avery Bradley was ahead of
John Wall and one. I think you can pretty regularly
though say that Wall was
one, Davis
was one, and then Scow.
Those are the three we've had. So, we're
We haven't had one since Scow.
So if you get that kid, there is a sense of like Kentucky's back in this.
But then there's also a sense you've put a lot of money in him.
I mean, he'll end up being, I think if Tyron Stokes is going to end up being the,
one of the top three NIL deals of all time.
Right now it's probably A.J. DeBonsa, Yaxil, and then Stokes will be right there.
I don't know what the order will be.
So if you get him, you're acknowledging that that.
You have given that amount of money, which is going to be a huge part of your cap.
Oh, yeah.
But where we are at this point in our program in Pope's career, he needs that.
Is it worth it?
Well, that's my question.
So is Tyron Stokes worth three Colin Chandler's?
Or let's just say, under his current price, two Colin Chandler's.
Would you rather have two Colin Chandler's or one Tyron Stokes?
Stokes.
You can get other channels.
Let me put a different way.
Would you rather have a Colin Chandler, a Diabate, and a Yellovich, or Tyron Stokes?
I just think for the perception of the program, he's got to get that number one stud high-profile guy to say, hey, we still is Kentucky.
Because I think if you get Tyron Stokes, you will pay for him what you paid for Chandler-Yelovich Diabate combined.
line last year.
With Stokes, I'm picturing him walking across the stage is the number one pick with the
Kentucky logo everywhere.
And I think Mark Pope needs that to get a little swag back around Kentucky and proving he can
have prospects.
I'm going to do it even better because this is what it is.
Okay.
This is what it is.
Because I'm trying to think, because you've got to have two other people on your roster.
So I'm going to use the money from last year versus what I think Stokes would cost
and ask which one would you rather have?
Okay.
Would you rather have a Stokes?
a Yellovich and a Noah
or would you rather have
Aberdeen Diabate Chandler
so you get Stokes
Noah Yellovich
Aberdeen Diabate Chandler
I'm going Stokes for everything that comes with
I mean we want to be on the commercials again
we want to be cool again
Stokes even if he doesn't really gel well
with Pope and maybe you don't go to the final
whatever maybe it doesn't work out
there's still a layer that he brings that those are
I just want people to also realize Stokes may cost, for instance,
O.A. and Aberdeen cost together.
I just think at this point in his career. I mean, I'm just being real. Like that,
that may be, that may be what it is. They were just paying to be cool again with Stokes.
And he's very good. Don't we need to win? We need to win too. But, I mean, you can win with him.
I'm not writing off as a winner. I agree. But we need to be cool again.
He's going to be that price. He will join Dibatza, A.J. DeBonsa and Daxil is the most expensive players.
Now, there might be some kid in the portal this year that joins that amount.
We'll see.
If you got the money, you got to do it.
You got to go get him.
You got to do it.
You do.
Go ahead, Brett.
Hey, Matt.
Yes.
We're seeing it on Twitter yesterday about Aberdeen and him entering the portal.
I hear that where I was reading that he has to enter the portal in order to put in for that waiver.
And there's a possibility that he'd come back.
Any truth to that?
I don't think that's true.
I don't think he would have to enter the point.
to ask for a waiver.
Do you?
I think it's backward.
If his waiver gets granted, he would need to have already been in the portal for teams to be talking to him.
Yeah, I think that's right.
So, yeah, so he would need to be in the portal to even get to talk to another.
He doesn't want to get granted a month from now and he's not in the portal.
Yeah, in theory, I guess he could come back, but I have not heard that that would happen,
although I would welcome it.
But I, but I, that's, in theory, though, I think for him to even be able to play college
basketball next year he had to
do the waiver
and in the room portal. He had to do both.
Gotcha, got you.
So, appreciate to call.
Let's go to Bobby. Go ahead, Bobby.
Good morning, gentlemen.
Good morning. A little off topic here,
but you guys' high school football coverage
is awesome, huge fan.
A good friend of mine before all the
conference tournaments started, passed away.
He was the first running
back to score a touchdown for Perry
County Central High School. His name was Ricky Beatty Jr. And he was a mountain legend.
Thanks for the call. I appreciate it, guys. Well, thank you. God bless Ricky Beatty,
Jr. And if we're going to talk about high school football legends, we also should note
Ryan Lemon that appreciate the call. Thanks for letting me.
I'm trying to help you there. I know who it was. Larry French passed away. Give his resume.
Last coach, Middlesbrough. Yeah, we went down there with Max and Max to his
team when Larry French was a coach
down there, but he kind of made
the name for himself in South Central Kentucky
won a couple state titles. He was at Boyle
County. Just a great guy to work with.
I mean, the sad thing is he just
retired after this past season.
And I passed away a couple months later.
So rest in peace. What are the guys did he
coach? Lincoln
County, I think, maybe, but definitely
Boyle County for a couple years more than a state title.
Middlesbrough. I forget where he went after
Middlesbrough. He went somewhere after that.
Yeah. Well, God bless his family
and the Johnson Central Beatty player that they just said.
News story said he was at Mercer County, Mead County, Lincoln, and Southwestern also in addition to the schools you already named.
That's awesome.
Great man.
He was a titan in the field for sure.
Good news for folks in Wisconsin.

We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?

And then April 29th, the league starts and you go, boom.
Like your sound effects have been great today.
I'm really good.
Did you enjoy doing the It's the News podcast?
I did.
You know, it started very serious with some news going on in the world,
but it ended with a lot of laughter.
Yeah, it's very few shows where you can start by breaking down the war in Iran,
but then end up with some of the things Drew said at the end of the podcast.
I'll just let him want to spoil them.
But not a lot, not a lot of shots.
you'll see that can make that run that can kind of hit all of those notes in one thing.
So it was me, Drew, and Billy.
It's on the interrupted by Matt Jones feed.
It'll also air tonight on WHS.
Highly recommend, you know, sometimes you walk out of these and you go, okay, well, that was
all right.
This was one he walked out.
And I was like, that's really good.
And I enjoyed it.
We even have Mario's attention.
Nice.
When I do interrupt it, if Mario pays attention, then I know it's pretty good because
Mario kind of glazes over serious topics and he was into this one.
I take a lot of pride in making you and the guys.
laugh and Billy hitting the bell yesterday.
He hit the bell twice. He got two bells.
Two bells. I've never had that happen
before. I feel like I'd won some kind of prize.
Memphis has announced they are going to put a FedEx jersey patch
or FedEx patch on their football and basketball jersey.
They become like the third college to agree to do that.
I looked at their patch. It's pretty prominent,
which of course leads the question of, what are you going to do
inevitably when Kentucky sells a patch on their jersey?
and it would not just be a patch on their jersey.
It would probably be the case that every time you bought a UK shirt,
it would say, you know, whatever on it.
Cole.
If it was licensed UK apparel would have to have that.
I don't have to.
I'm just saying, though, I can see a world where that happens.
It'll probably start with it being on the jersey.
So what are you going to do?
Are you going to be upset if the first time we come out in a football or basketball jersey,
it says Clark's Pumman job.
Or Morgan and Morgan.
That'd be, by the way, that would be my leader in the clubhouse.
Yeah, that's true.
I think Morgan and Morgan, if you were to sit there and go,
what are the betting odds on the first patch that ends up on a jersey?
Yeah, that's a good question.
What businesses do you think are our leader?
I'm going to go, what are the three most likely businesses?
Morgan and Morgan, friends of coal.
Those are your first two.
What would the third be?
A lot of their partners are local.
I think you need a national brand.
It's going to cost a lot of money to do that.
But both of those would have a lot of money.
So I'm thinking big, big.
Central Bank does a lot.
Do you think that's central banks enough?
I don't know.
They do an awful lot of advertising.
It's a national.
FedEx would want to be on Memphis because FedEx is a worldwide brand.
Man, Morgan Morgan's a great pick.
I don't think UPS could do it because it's in Louisville and U.
U.S. fans would get mad.
UPS will do it for Louisville
Possibly.
Yeah.
Public storage.
I think Louisville would be, I think Louisville would be
or Planet Fitness.
They love some Planet Fitness over there.
Well, yeah, the guy that started playing fitness is a little.
The cartoon drawing of us and KSR.
Yeah, we don't have that money.
I think once we get the public storage lady involved.
Oh, storage.
We just got to recruit.
You just say storage.
Yeah, public storage.
Kentucky Public Storage.
I think the two leaders in the clubhouse are friends of coal
and Morgan and Morgan.
I think if you had to make a bet, you'd bet on Morgan and Morgan.
I mean, they're everywhere, you know.
When people, I've been pushing back a little,
when people say, but the name on the front of the jersey,
I've been saying lately, is about to have a patch next to it as a company on it.
So remember that when we're talking about the sacred cloth.
I don't think it'll be this year, but it's coming.
It's definitely coming.
Kevin, go ahead, Kevin.
Yeah, I just wanted to make a couple comments here.
What do you think these, I guess, you know, when they evaluate a player,
is worth, do you think they take into account the jump that they're going to make?
Of course.
We all agree that.
Yes.
I think these, we talked about the system that football and women's volleyball are using,
basketball may or may not be using it, but any system worth its weight is factoring in
likelihood to be better.
I'm sure that's true.
Okay.
All right.
That's good to know.
Secondly, I'm in the camp of we should have retained Colin Chandler.
I think he would have made a jump.
And then, you know, obviously coming back, he knows what it,
he knows what it feels like to play for Kentucky.
And then you got to ask yourself, what if we don't get somebody equivalent in the portal?
I mean, we may be going after studs, but there's a lot of woodbush going out.
Would you be okay with a, we would have had to pay him an amount of money where he would have needed to be our second best.
player on the team. Would you be okay building a team where Colin Chandler is your second best
player on the team? I think he has the ability to be the second best player. So if that's the case,
then yes. But I may be in the minority. No, no, but yeah, I appreciate the call. But that's what you
have to ask yourself. Kentucky, I think, was appreciate the call. They were willing to pay him to be the
third or fourth best player on the team. He wanted money that would be to be the second best player.
that's kind of the way I envision it.
It's like you wanted to give me maybe even fourth best player money.
He wanted second best player.
So the question you have to ask yourself is,
do I think Colin Chandler could be the second best player on a Final Four team?
Because we're trying to build Final Four squads, right?
And you just have to decide for yourself what the answer to that question is.
John, go ahead, John.
Yeah, I have three questions.
If you had to guess, how much money is our NL budget?
Well, I mean, that's hard to say because of the way the money's.
I would say we probably will have a top seven budget in the country.
As for what the raw dollars are, I think, I'm not sure.
But I would say if you're ranking programs, last year we were probably in the top three.
This year we're probably going to be top six to seven.
Okay, so like 18 to 20 mil in that range?
Again, I think a lot of these numbers are fake, but if you want to use the fake numbers, then yeah, something like that.
Okay.
So the team next year looks like it's going to be Cam Williams, Malachi Moreno, Trent Noah,
and that center from San Diego State, like it's June or something.
I don't think we have any idea.
Yeah, I don't think we have.
Oh, you mean how much have we spent so far?
Again, raw numbers are hard.
I appreciate the call.
I would say of Kentucky's potential budget that they have,
we've probably spent 30% of it, 25 maybe.
There's a lot of money still out there to go get guys.
But now they've got to get them.
You have all the money in the world.
People don't take it.
And this is the time.
Yeah, so I think we've probably spent 30% of the money.
I think Malachi took a discount.
Malachi's making much more than he made last year,
but I think he took a discount as to what he could.
could have gotten.
I believe that's true.
And I think Cam's probably being paid very similar to what he got last year,
which I think he was a steal last year.
So I actually think they've,
if you're looking at,
have they been efficient,
I think the answer is so far yes.
Now let's see what happens with the rest of it.
Roger, go ahead, Roger.
Yeah, thanks for taking my call.
I was curious, are they going after that center for Georgia,
that's surreal and whoever they get next year,
do they have the coaches to improve those players?
Well, that second question, I'm not sure.
I appreciate the call.
I would hope so.
I don't think they're going after Sommeto.
It sounds like he's like, it's what, Arkansas and Miami?
Yeah, Jay Lucas might be swooping in and taking him from Arkansas.
I hope he does.
Because he was a do not contact.
He was a do not contact.
So like he apparently thought he already knew.
Everybody assumed he was going to go to Arkansas, right?
But now there's some chatter that Jay Lucas may have gotten him at Miami.
He played well against us this year.
That's for sure.
Like he played his best games against us.
You think he's a cow kind of player?
I think Cal didn't have a lot of just big, massive.
No, he didn't.
I don't know.
Nirlins, by the way, was the number one overall record.
Was he?
So that's another one.
So we had Walt Davis, Nirlins, scowl.
So in a course of seven years, we had the overall number one four times,
and Carl was number two.
So we had one of the top two players, five of those years.
And then the other year, we didn't have a number one,
but like Randall and the twins were both in the top eight.
or seven. Well, Cal's last recruiting class that the fans hurt had three of the top five at their positions.
They had three top five players with Edwards was number one wing. Bradshaw was the number one center,
DJ number one guard, and then you had Robin Reed. Yeah, we forget that the three highest rate
players in that class all kind of were disappointments. But remember, fans hurt the recruiting there.
I'm not behind any of that. Number one class.
Number one class. With three of the top five players. Probably Cal's second best overall class was that year.
just didn't pan out.
Yeah.
