Starting point is 00:03:20 Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-2802287. Text machine is 772-7745254. All right, so we're going to take calls a bunch here in the second hour, but I also want to talk about a couple things. Shannon, I went to Zach Bryan and Kings of Leon on Saturday. I heard, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:42 You know, that's not normally my thing. A lot of parts of it aren't my thing. Don't know either of those two. I mean, I know who they are, but between in the three and a half hours that they played, I knew three songs. I knew, uh, Jack is on fire.
Starting point is 00:03:59 And then what's the other one I know from Kings of Leone? Use somebody. I'm a huge. Somebody. I knew those two. So during those songs, I was, yeah. And then on Zach Bryan, I know he's very famous. But I only think, the only song I knew was something in the orange or whatever, right? I'm not sure what that one is. Yeah. Yeah. That one. And like, Max, Max and Miles kept saying to me, you know this one. I'm like, no. I didn't know any of them. Which is crazy because in listening to him, I don't know why I've had such an aversion to him for so long. I've almost. like intentionally not listen to him. But I don't really know why. He's fine. Here's my Zach Bryan review.
Starting point is 00:04:42 I thought he played his first concert in Pineville. He said. In Pineville? In Pineville. He said he was in the military and he met a guy in the military who's like, you need to sing for a living. And the first place he got booked was Pineville. Really?
Starting point is 00:04:57 And so he said like he has this great affinity for Pineville. And then I remember Tyler Childers has a song about Pineville. How did Bell County? Yeah. Right? But Zach Bryan was like Pineville, Kentucky. This is my first which was crazy to me. I'm the only one that screamed. There was clearly
Starting point is 00:05:14 no one there from Pineville. Now he's huge. Now he's huge. He's actually, when he played his fast song, Shannon I really liked. Right? So he, like his first half of his concert was where like fast songs. And when he played, I thought they were good. I thought his band was good. He was good. He had
Starting point is 00:05:33 a stage where he would look at all four sides, so he would rotate around, which I thought was nice as a singer. His slow songs, they all sound the same to me. It felt like Shannon he played the same song for an hour straight. Well, that's for the females, right? Okay, that was my other table. I couldn't believe how many women. First of all, is his core fan base, like 15 to 18 year old girls? Definitely young women. But I mean like, they, like, I was amazed how many parents were there with their kids. Is it the male version of Taylor Swift? Maybe.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Because it felt like it was all people my age and people in high schools. Really? And no one in between. Huh. That's what it felt like to me. Now, I didn't see everything. And then there were some people like old guys there for only Kings of Leon. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:06:26 Who are like, what do I do during Zach Brine? So Max and Miles and Miles were kind of like that. They were just there for Kings of Leon. So because of all that, Shannon, this is my point. Zach Brian was fine. I might actually listen to him more than I have. It was maybe one of my best efforts of getting out of a concert. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:46 I heard about this. I'm supposed to give you crap about you leaving early. No, I looked at him and I said, look, I'm here for you guys. Right? Max has been here in Australia. I haven't seen you in forever. Love Miles. I'm like, I'll do what y'all want.
Starting point is 00:07:00 But I would suggest. suggest. Leaving now. We don't leave right now. We go watch the last two songs next to the gate. And then get the heck out. So I guess he finishes with the song called a revival. And when he starts that, I'm like,
Starting point is 00:07:19 we should already be in the car. All right, does you ready? Make our break. So we go, we leave. Thank God. Did you see the stories about what happened after? People were stuck down there until two and three in the morning. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:07:35 Because the U of L's not used to those crowds at the football stadium. They don't usually get that many people for the games, Shannon. So is it at the football stadium? Yeah, and there were more people than are at the games because there were people on the field. So the field was full and all the stands and the infrastructure around that campus just cannot handle that. And I could tell like Uber's. Apparently Uber just like, Uber just was like, no more. We're done with you all.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Uber tapped out. Uber tapped out. So we got one. We walked to the Denny's and got one there. But I had friends who said they were down there at 2 a.m. Couldn't get out. But you foresaw what was coming. You know, I have a six cents about this stuff, Shandand.
Starting point is 00:08:18 I mean, WrestleMania will always be my best one. Oh, yeah. We left during the event. I mean, WrestleMania was such a traffic disaster that the governor lost his reelection for it. People were there like the next afternoon. day. But the report that I got from Mac says Matt literally just talked about exit strategy from the moment we entered. That's a little of an exaggeration.
Starting point is 00:08:43 But probably halfway through the Zach Bryn's stat, I started talking exit strategy. You did that when we were at the Hershey Park. You said, okay, Ryan, you can listen to five Def Leopard songs and that's it. We're out of here. You get first five and then we're leaving. There is one of those, what's the commercials you turn into your parents? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:59 There's one about leaving early to beat the traffic. Planning the strategy as soon as you enter in the stadium. I do that. But people thank me after. I'm going to say it paid off. When Max and Miles were at the bar wanting to meet ladies, who were they thanking? Yeah, I mean, it depends on how much does. They wouldn't have been at the bar.
Starting point is 00:09:18 The last two songs really mean. Who cares? Revival. Go buy the CD. Look it up on YouTube. Watch it in the parking lot. Jeff. Go ahead, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Jeff All right No Jeff Go to Will Hey there I'm not trying to To tell anybody What to do
Starting point is 00:09:40 But Kentucky basketball Is currently 40 to 1 To win the national championship And if they get all these dudes That thing is going to go
Starting point is 00:09:49 To 10 or 12 to 1 And you can either Cash out And take the profit Or if they don't get any of them You can cash out for 90% of your Original bet
Starting point is 00:10:00 And you're really not out anything So You know I'm not saying I'm just saying. I actually don't. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:10:06 I mean, I don't hate that if it's really 41. I mean, you will never get Kentucky 40 to 1 before a season ever. Now, you know, we're still a long way. We have no commitments yet. But, yeah, if you felt confident that you were going to get these two guys and you wanted to have some fun, why not? He's right. They get those two guys.
Starting point is 00:10:25 It's going to drop way down to 10 to 1, 12 to 1 or something. So you got a chance to maybe make a little cash right now. Yeah. All right. I'll take it. 859-2-80-2-827. A couple open lines. Let's go to Chris.
Starting point is 00:10:35 Go ahead, Chris. Yeah, hey, fellas. How's it going? Good. So my question really is kind of, okay, so we're talking a lot about the recruits. Big news on campus today. We have the best fans in the world. We also are passionate, and that tends to come out in bad ways.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Do we think that if we manage to land Stokes and Rob Wright, that we quell some of the Pope hate. Of course. I think, I think, I mean, some of it will still exist because it's the internet and there's not any human being on earth that won't get some criticism on the internet. But, of course. But yes, I do think, well, okay, let's just use the people on this show. You have levels of skeptics on this show.
Starting point is 00:11:29 I'm oddly not the least skeptical, even though I get probably the most. grief about it. I would say Drew, who's not here, is the most skeptical. I mean, I'm not the most tactical. Sorry. And I think he'll be all in for next year. Yes. I think you'll be all in for next year. Shannon, will you be all in for next year? If they get stokes alone. So I will be too. Now, you know, I'm probably not going to be hanging the banner like I did in my mind last year. but I am going to be like, all right, here you go, Mark. You got your squad. Go do it.
Starting point is 00:12:08 That's going to be my view. And I would say that's probably going to be the view of most of the fans. Yeah. Appreciate the call. I don't think people are going to, I mean, I don't think people are going to be guaranteeing success. But I do think people are going to have some confidence now that, like, it can happen. Just me.
Starting point is 00:12:30 I already feel it. These guys haven't even committed, but I just feel like the fact that they're on campus has got me thinking that, okay, they're moving in the right direction, doing things they need to be doing and try to rebuild that roster. Do you think my first frustration,
Starting point is 00:12:41 Shannon, with that first caller, made everybody scared? Maybe so, because somebody just called in and I said, KSR, what's your name? And they hung up. And they ran away and screamed. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Yeah, maybe I was a little harsh, but also he was trying to kill my vibe. That's right. Buzzkill. He was trying to. to, you'll find it. Don't force it. It rained on my parade, but that's like a 1930s trade. Either way. If you're one of these recruits, though, can you look at the banner boys and go, nope, I'm not going there after they went through all the trouble of getting bed sheets and linen?
Starting point is 00:13:18 Well, clearly the coach is like if they brought them by and FaceTime the guy. You can't say no to those guys, can you? You're Stokes or Rob Wright? And they seem like nice guys on the phone. Sigma Kai in the house. So now if Donnie Freeman What's the Sigma Kai chant? Oh, I don't know. You're asking the wrong people. I was going to give a Sigma Kai.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Should have asked them while they were on the phone. Sigma Kai chicken thigh. Something like that. I guarantee it's that dumb. All the fraternities ones are that dumb. But if Donnie Freeman comes to campus this week, you know they're going to drive him by and show him his banner. Do you think they're driving Stokes?
Starting point is 00:13:51 I think they would. That's why we should have a reporter on the scene. See, if I was the, if I was the colonel, that's what I would use. I would send someone. out there and just sit on the sidewalk and wait wait for him to drive by or the TV stations what have they got to cover I'm sure they're probably out there today doing it yeah let's go to uh Trevor go ahead Trevor hey guys uh that first caller had a little bit of a sound of a negativity in his voice
Starting point is 00:14:19 and I think today there is no room for negativity today's a huge day for Kentucky basketball and so my question and more maybe even of a request hypothetically, let's say Rob Wright and Tyron Stokes are driving around in a car and the radio is playing, or they're somewhere on campus. And they're listening to AM radio. Yes, okay. That's right. Or somebody could send them this. Could we get maybe a 60-second good old-fashioned Ryan Lemon just pump up?
Starting point is 00:14:49 No, I want them to come here. I want them to come here. This would be one for like a Chester. Yes. Like this would be a good Chester. message to Tyron Stokes and Rob Wright about the sort of feeling
Starting point is 00:15:06 Shannon of Kentucky basketball yeah right and why they should come here Ryan gets a little aggressive sometimes Ryan gets a little aggressive and I don't trust him not to talk about things that would freak them out you need to know Ryan right yeah yeah that your intro to Ryan cannot be a motivational you have to know that deep down he's good hearted
Starting point is 00:15:24 exactly you don't know that though the color crosses like crazy so what are the best ways outside of in aisle money. You probably would like, I mean, they're young guys. So sorority houses. Like if they, nice for Sigma Chi,
Starting point is 00:15:40 it'd be nice if the sorority houses. That would be good if they put them up. Right there on. I don't know what the, what are the sororities? I bet they have Tridelt, right? What else?
Starting point is 00:15:50 Is there something with a pie? Kappa delta. All right. I guess that may be. But my point is that would be one. Then I would want, I think like, somewhere where they eat
Starting point is 00:16:01 where they were taking them to lunch or something and then have it. I know the football recruits used to love when Vince would walk them into KS Bar and everybody, because Vince used to, he would call me in advance and he would say I got six guys coming. I appreciate the call, by the way.
Starting point is 00:16:21 And I would get on the microphone and I would say, all right, here's who's coming. When they walk in, Vince would walk in first. And if you've been there during the game, everyone would cheer. He would bring them in for a pregame basketball crew. Uh-huh. Right?
Starting point is 00:16:34 Yep. I wish we could have a moment like that. Although these guys, you know, would they like it or not? But like Rob Wright at BYU, he'd have to like, guess he doesn't get that. Correct. Stokes may get, have gotten it in his life, but Rob Wright's probably never gotten that. Yeah, here we are in April. It would be tough to try to relive what it's like when you walk into a place and during basketball season or football season.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Yeah. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage. Stockton Mortgage, you know, the spring buying season is hot and heavy right now. If you're thinking about buying this summer, now's the time to get pre-approved. So we can hook you up with the loan officer of Stockton Mortgage. They can get you through the process of getting pre-approved. And it's really important because you get into a multiple offer situation. If you hand that pre-approval letter, it gives you more weight in the negotiation process.
Starting point is 00:17:16 So give them a call. They're easy to work with. Stockton.com, NMLS, 8259, Equal Housing Lender. All right. Is that good? Yeah. What are you wearing? St. Louis Cardinal baseball shirt.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Looks good. That you're reds, my cardinals both stink. That doesn't look like one they would have given you. I think my mom bought it for me. Okay, that's fine. I knew you didn't buy it. We'll take a break and be right back. KSR.

Starting point is 00:18:55 and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid?

Starting point is 00:20:03 This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:20:23 Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep. My mama want you to weigh better. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Yeah, the whole crowd did sing this.
Starting point is 00:20:48 I'm kind of a sucker, Shannon, for when huge crowds, especially stadium crowds, sing a song with the artist. Right. Yeah. I think it's kind of beautiful. song is good. So even though I didn't, I mean, I've heard this song, but I didn't really know it. When everybody was singing this, it actually was, you know, you get kind of chill, Shannon, when you do that, right? Yeah, even if you don't necessarily like the song, hearing everybody sing that. And I hate to admit
Starting point is 00:21:16 it like when it comes to sports, but Kansas with the Rock Chalk Jayhast has the best thing. The haunting. Like Tom Petty, learning to fly has become my favorite song of his because I heard the version where he was singing it in Gainesville at Florida Stadium and the crowd then takes over and sings for him and he almost sings accompanying the crowd and it's it's become my favorite song of his and I always liked it but like that version just sends chills up my spine, Shannon, you know. So now you're a Zach Bryan fan here and go out and out by all of his albums. I mean, I don't, I will, if I knew the names of the songs I heard, I will listen to the fast ones. but the slow ones
Starting point is 00:21:58 honestly at one point I looked at Max and I'm like how long is this song and he's like these are like three songs It's like medley Yeah because they all just kind of sounded The same to me after a while But that's fine I mean people loved it People were loving it
Starting point is 00:22:15 And I also have to give a shout out to Cardinal Stadium Had the best pretzel I've ever had Really best pretzel Well you know me I hate lines Yeah yeah I ain't standing in any lines The lines were atrocious for everything. The only line that had no
Starting point is 00:22:31 things were Ben's pretzels. Because all they had was pretzels. I think it was Ben's pretzels. Shout out to whoever Ben is. They were doing a good job with those pretzels. Surprised it wasn't a line then. People didn't know they were that good. I was my own dinner that night. It was pretzel.
Starting point is 00:22:47 But it was very good. I can see why you like Zach Brian. He's got that voice kind of that. I just spent 20 minutes saying I don't like it. I've never heard any of his music. I'm saying I'm surprised you don't like you. Oh, surprise you don't like. Yeah. I think it was because everybody would always, when he came up,
Starting point is 00:23:03 they were like, this guy's just like Tyler. And then I heard a song and I was like he's not really like Tyler. And so then I just decided I didn't like him because of that. But maybe it's not fair to him. Although apparently people keep right in me and saying he's not a good dude, but I'm not making judgment. I don't know the person. Kirby, go ahead, Kirby.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Hey, good morning, Matt. What time, long time calling. Hey, been going back and listening. other show so all this stuff going on. Who do we depend on on Facebook? KSR, Kentucky Insider, Katz Coverage, who do we follow there? Yeah, I don't know what
Starting point is 00:23:39 the last one you said is. I mean, obviously I'm going to say KSR. Cat coverage. Yeah, I don't know what that is. KSR would obviously, I mean, would be the one, here's what you have to be careful with. There are people out there, and I'm not saying that about any of these people
Starting point is 00:23:59 because I don't know who you're talking about. But there are people out there who will see other information, not confirm it, put it out, and then people take that as a confirmation. And then sometimes you have to go, well, where did the original piece of information even come out? I will tell you this. Right. I only know the standard for me, Jack, Jacob. I can't speak for Ryan because I was in Europe or when I was in Amsterdam, he took a different strategy.
Starting point is 00:24:26 but I'm not putting it out with confirmation unless I know it's happening. And that's why I often won't put stuff out. Everybody else does because if I don't hear it, I'm not going to do it. And one more thing. I've been going back in your information on that blueprint thing. I was going to ask that question a few weeks ago, but that was great. And I've been looking on the Kentucky website. I think it's something awesome and everything.
Starting point is 00:24:54 It looks good. go to college sports like that. I didn't know. Wait just saying before you go that, I didn't know that on your Twitter, Ryan, there's a place where people who don't know you can write messages. Did you know that? No.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Like a request? Yes. I didn't know that was there. So I just looked at those the other day. And it's got a lot of people I wouldn't want it. But then there's like a lot of people I might have wanted to talk to that have written me in there. And I didn't know. And one of them was the CEO of that blueprint wanting to explain what it was.
Starting point is 00:25:24 So maybe he will get him all. at some point to do that. But go ahead. What's your next thing? Yeah. The one more thing was on Jeff Goodman on X other week, he listed these prices for top 25 portal players, big man, point guards, wings. Big man was 4 to 5 million, point guards,
Starting point is 00:25:40 three to four, wings 2 to 0.5 to 3. And I mean, I'm old school, but yet you've been saying, you know, people can lose jobs and people fire and people move on. I've been agreeing with all that stuff. But the one thing with some of these contracts, say like an older Kurt Cousins, he's going to the Raiders with an
Starting point is 00:26:01 incentive package. These kids have never made this money before. Yeah, but so what? So what? Do you start bringing in college players, I know, but do you bring in these college players based on incentives? But you can't do any of those things until you were, look, I am for all things that they do in the NBA, NFL, baseball. That has been refined over 90 years, and those contracts make a lot of sense. So you're right. Kirk's Cousins gets all these incentives. But here's the problem. And it's a good question. Why can't they do that in college basketball? Because we still will not accept that these kids are employees. The schools do not want these kids to be employees for a variety of reasons. Because of that. No, I think they need to be employees. Then once they do that, then you can have a collective bargaining
Starting point is 00:26:48 agreement and you can do the things like you're talking about, sir, have multi-year contracts and have incentives. All of those things are possible, but you have to treat them as employees. If you do not treat them as employees, under current law, it's the wild west of capitalism, right? So I will use this argument not to get political, but I do think it's important. A lot of times people say, I want the government to stay out of the economy, right? A lot of people say that. Sure. And I understand why they say it.
Starting point is 00:27:23 You want to know what the economy would look like if there was no government? Go look at NIL in college sports. Because there are no rules, sir. There's no protections for the athletes. There's no protections for the colleges. There's no protections for anybody. It is literally free market capitalism at its most pure. And so I would say, I want there to be rules.
Starting point is 00:27:45 But until you call them employees, I think it's going to be impossible to have rules that will withstand courts for the most part. Yeah, I agree with that because, I mean, it's like Jaden. Nothing against Jaden last year. But if he didn't play, he shouldn't have made that much money. But like you said, he's not an employee, so it's not incentive based. So I get it. I'm just trying to figure out, you know, how do you base a big man at $4 to $5 million?
Starting point is 00:28:12 Yeah, I don't know. And I also would say Jeff would know more about those amounts. I appreciate the call than I would. I do think Ryan, I always will think the numbers are somewhat exaggerated because as we've talked about both sides, the school and the player and the agent, they all have incentives to exaggerate. They want to inflate that number because they help them when they do go to the negotiating table. But do I think guys, there are guys who will get four or five million dollars? Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:38 And there might even be one or two on campus. Right now. So we'll take a break. Be right back. KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Here's Matt Jones. Yeah, the crowds went nuts for this one, too. Yeah. Shend, these guys just look like regular dudes. Like, they did not look like rock singers to me. Yeah. They just look like guys you'd see on the show. Like, it looked like I could be up there. You know, because a lot of times you see musical acts, you're like, well, that dude's a lot cooler than I.
Starting point is 00:29:15 Right. Get all the tattoos and the leather. Oh, he's like, okay, yeah, I couldn't do that. But, like, I looked up there and I was like, if I knew how to do any of these things, I could be up there with those guys. There you go. Well, I mean, half of us, though, look in the part. But they don't look apart. They just look like guys.
Starting point is 00:29:30 Well, they found success on. Because they look like a bunch of 40-something-year-old guys, which is what I guess they are. People love them. I was just surprised they were opening up for Zach Bryan. It's sort of a... Well, Zach Ryan, I think has a song with him. He came out and sang with him on a song. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:43 That's why that's the connection. That's like an odd combo Kings and Leon opening. for Zach Bryan. One person said, let's be honest with ourselves. Matt, you didn't like Zach Brian because people were telling you is like Tyler Music or Tyler Childers and you feel like you found his music. And that made you, yes, that's a good call. Text of the day if we used to do that.
Starting point is 00:30:03 I didn't find Tyler, but I feel like I did because I saw him right before he broke out. Lots of people in Kentucky saw him for. I did, though. But this guy, I think, has that kind of that Tyler sound a little bit. Not exactly, but it's a little. In the ballpark. In the ballpark. I had Rich Eisen on ESPN yesterday.
Starting point is 00:30:19 Yeah. That was very cool. If you get a chance, the Matt and Myron hour three, you could download. We interviewed him, and it was great. He talked about what it was like to work at SportsCenter in its heyday. Talked about radio a lot. I geeked out a little bit. He acted like he knew who he were.
Starting point is 00:30:39 And I enjoyed that. As somebody who grew up, you know. Was he one of the originals? He wasn't one of the original. He said he came on in 96 or something 95 with, he was kind of the Stuart Scott partner. Yeah. So like that second wave. He's kind of wave two.
Starting point is 00:30:54 You got wave two. One is like Dan Patrick, Keith. Well, you got like Chris Berman and those guys. Then I think wave two is like, you know, Keith Oberman, Dan Patrick. Then I think there's another wave that's Stuart Scott, Rich Eisen, Scott Van Pelt. Kenny Maine. Kenny Maine, I think is more than the first one. along with like Craig Kilbourne.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Yeah. I think Eisen's in the kind of Stuart Scott, Scott Van Pelt, Charlie Steiner was in the original group. I've never met Rich Eisenman. Everybody says he's a great guy. Did he come across that way with you guys? Couldn't have been nicer to us. I mean, again, it was on the radio.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Yeah. And he was like, look forward to seeing you guys soon. And I was like, you haven't seen me the first time. We've never met. Are they bringing him back to SportsCenter too? see me soon. How about seeing me the first time? Well, he hosted it last night. They did a throwback edition.
Starting point is 00:31:53 Okay. And they used the old graphics. Yeah. Did the old intros. You know how they used to make intros with like puns and stuff. Oh yeah. Yeah. He did one of those. You should hear. It was funny. He like voiceover and, yeah, it was cool. I didn't watch all of it, but I watched a few minutes. I thought I saw something when he was going back to the Sports Center desk. I didn't know what it was about. Yeah. So it was, it was, uh, from Iron and I both, we were kind of, you know, It was kind of nice. Yeah. I saw you retweeted something where somebody called you and Myron the best show on the radio.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Yeah. I mean, Shannon, you should retweet. Yeah. Yeah. We'll retweet. I mean, it's one that people who say it about Kentucky, that's very nice. But we'll have a lot of people say it. But most people don't even know I'm on.
Starting point is 00:32:35 On a national level. Yeah, they don't know who I am. So if somebody says that, that's the easiest way. That's like, okay, another thing they do in concerts. They all mention the city. Uh-huh. Yeah. Louisville, you're the best crowd we've ever had.
Starting point is 00:32:49 That's the cheapest pop in the world. Right. Yeah. So if you tweet me and say, this is the best show. Yeah. Although he tweeted that. Didn't he tweet that was one of the best shows or best towns he's ever played was Louisville? He said during the concert, this is the best crowd I've ever had.
Starting point is 00:33:05 And I was like, whatever. And then he tweeted it after it was over. So if you say it, yeah, he probably says that every town he goes to. But to tweet it though, now it's on record. Because you can't tweet it about. every single people will go, wait a minute, dude. A little insincere. So I could see it.
Starting point is 00:33:20 I mean, people were into it. Yeah, he's big. Started, was it the Mountain Laurel Festival concert or something? No, he was playing in a bar in Pineville had bars. I didn't either. I just thought they had the floco in the subway. And I guess they also have a bar. Jeff, go ahead, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:33:39 All right, let's try again. Second guy's a good golfer here with the Mulligan. I just think we make our own luck in this world, and I see Pope changing his luck, bringing in Kagan with the roster, very intentional shoot past dribble guys that have been on our list. The new fanatics deal, hopefully we can leverage that for Stokes. And then you've got the energy and the swag of Mo. And I think we clean up this week.
Starting point is 00:34:07 I think those are really good points. I mean, we'll see about Keegan Brown. I don't know anything about him. Mo Williams brings a swagger and a coolness that this staff. didn't have. I appreciate the call. I'll use, I use this example, uh, with, with somebody yesterday I was talking to about this. Mo Williams is this staff's Mario. And I'm serious about that. We needed to be a little cooler. Mario makes us a little cooler. Mark Pope needs to be a little cooler. I think it's fair to say Shannon not the coolest dude in the world. Mark Fox not the
Starting point is 00:34:46 coolest dude in the world. Cody Figer, not the coolest dude in the world. I'm not the coolest dude in the world. You bring him Mario adds some young cool factor. Mo's not as young, but he's just, if you remember him from, he just has a swagger to him. I mean, he's just got a thing that's probably helpful. That may have been a weakness this staff needed. And that connection he's got with Stokes, I'm sure added to his ability to bring him down to campus for a visit
Starting point is 00:35:12 this week. Without question. Joella, go ahead, Joella. Yes, ma'am. He rode in this morning on a flight with Tyler Stokes, and he was just a very kind young man. Tyron Stokes. Tyron Stokes, yeah. Don't call him Tyler, but... So you were on the flight, okay? See, this is what I love Shannon.
Starting point is 00:35:41 This is BB and is its best. They're on the flight. Where was the flight from? Well, no, I'm assuming he was on my flight. I got a picture with him here at Bluegrass Airport. but we flew in from Atlanta. We had flew in from Atlanta. Joella, can you send us the picture?
Starting point is 00:36:00 Oh, sure. Okay, I'll tell you what, you're going to hang on at the end of this call, give Shannon your number, or Shannon will give you a number to text it to, okay? Okay. I'll be glad to, but yes, I'm really excited. I got to meet him.
Starting point is 00:36:15 All right, well, good. And so what did you say to him? I just, he was taking a picture with a, another lady and I didn't even ask for a picture but he came over and took one with me and he didn't even ask for a picture he just walked up to you and gave a picture he he he walked up to me because I had offered to give a picture to the lady who took a lady's picture she actually she sat beside him the whole way home gotcha and so I said I'll take y'all's picture and then he just came over and took one with me it did a selfie with me well you could you know you could have just
Starting point is 00:36:50 taking a picture, Joella, with a future NBA number one pick. Imagine if you had a picture with LeBron as he got off the plane in high school or Anthony Davis. No, this guy's got a picture with Joella. A little jet laid. We left from Hawaii yesterday, so I'm a little bit jetline. That's all right. But let me tell you.
Starting point is 00:37:11 I told him, I said, go UK. We got a sign. We got a sign. Good. Well, I like, hang on, and then you can send Shannon the picture, and we'll go from there. Okay. All right. I appreciate. How about that? Humble brag. We just flew in from Hawaii. My picture was focused on. That was the kindest lady and she was excited and she's sending a picture and you're going to call her a humble bragger. Why would you do that? What is with you today? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:37:40 Yellovich. Yeah, that was not good. Joella. That was not good. What is that with you? Who peed in your cheerio? Oh, I can't say that. I get to say it. You don't. I'm a probation. Who did that? Why? Why are you in such a... It's Monday. It's great day. All right. Shannon, when you get the picture, let me know. We'll verify if it's him. Bluegrass. Go ahead, Bluegrass. Oh, Lord, fellas, you might have caught me at the wrong time. I'm taking a shower. All right. Let's go to Dave. Dave, go ahead. I'm not taking calls from naked men in showers. Dave, go ahead, Dave. Great call on your part.
Starting point is 00:38:22 Matt, listen, hear me out real quick, okay? I kind of feel like when you were talking about, you know, folks calling out the fan bases, you were kind of calling me out because I make some comments, but just hear me out real quick. The frustration that you had with the first caller today is the same thing that I get every time I open a post. And I'm not saying the entire fan base. We have a wonderful fan base, but we have the largest number of knuckleheads that
Starting point is 00:38:50 have something negative to say about anything of any fan base in the country. That's why I get so frustrated. I agree. To some extent, I agree with you. I can't read the comments to my posts. Like when I wrote that Trent Noah was coming back, the comments to my post on Twitter, honestly, we're shameful. But you also have to remember it's like 20 people,
Starting point is 00:39:15 most of them are anonymous, and remember the piece of advice I've said many times. that I have to remind myself all the time. If you are a happy human being, would you go on Twitter and reply to a person and be a jerk? Because if you were happy, you wouldn't. No. So that means that person isn't happy.
Starting point is 00:39:37 And so let's just hope things get better for them. With that said, though, I understand what you're saying. Like, but you just don't read the comments. Find the UK fans that bring you joy or the media. and follow those people and just try to ignore the others. Because I get it. But I get why that would be frustrating. Yeah, I think, and I think what really frustrates me is there was a point in time when I would have thought there's no way that what people say on social media would actually have a detrimental effect on whether or not kids would want to come here.
Starting point is 00:40:09 But you know what? Those kids and their families, especially in this day and age, everything matters. Everything is now. I mean, everybody reads everything. I get that. You're right. I appreciate the call. I think the thing is, though, I just don't want, I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:40:26 I don't want the message to be we do it and other people don't because the other people do it too. But it can be depressing. Like yesterday. So much good news. I just didn't read my comments for 10 hours. I was like, I'm going to be in a positive move. That's better. Be like on KS board where there are some negative people, but there's more people having
Starting point is 00:40:48 real conversation. There's a group chat. Somebody put me in that's got a lot of fans that are really excited. And they're kind of fun, right? So I'm not going to be, like once I see the sense of gloom and doom, and that's probably why I jumped on that caller earlier is why be doomy today? If we don't get either of these guys, then be doomy. But right now, we got the number two quarterback in America and we got the two best players
Starting point is 00:41:13 we've had visit here in the Pope era are both here. We need to be celebrating, having a party today. But the guy said, like there's just a couple knuckleheads. Just ignore the knuckleheads. All right. If you're paying a premium for roadside assistance, getting gouged for phone insurance, doctor visits, co-pays feeling more expensive, take advantage of blue vantage checking from UK credit union.

It helps you get ahead. Blue vantage checking from the official credit union, the University of Kentucky, UK credit union. Additional fees apply. membership eligibility required insured by NCUA. You have the picture, right?
Starting point is 00:41:52 I sent it to you. That's him. That's him, right? Yeah. There she is. And she's got a Hawaii t-shirt on. There we go. That's definitely him. He's got braces, right?
Starting point is 00:42:03 Does he have braces? Are you sure, Mario? Because I don't want to put this out. That's him. I want to put this out and it not be him. On the other pictures, he doesn't have braces. Are you sure he has braces? Maybe he just got it.
Starting point is 00:42:17 That him? That's him. You promise? Maybe he just got braces. I text Joel real quick and ask her if she's okay if I put that up. Will you do that? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:42:29 All right. We'll take a break. Be right back. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened.

And we're still chasing it.
Starting point is 00:43:49 And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Starting point is 00:44:50 Have a great day. I heart radio. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:45:06 This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at. better. What? Where's he at? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:45:28 Listen to the Cliverts show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Yeah, you know, yeah, that was it. That's Mark Pope. Right now to Tyron Stokes. You somebody like him. Yes, well, we definitely could. So I posted the picture. This is, that's of Joella and Tyrant. Stokes and Joella's Hawaii T-shirt. What a nice woman.
Starting point is 00:45:54 And just seems like. New braces and everything. Yeah. See, we have some breaking news shit. Uh-oh. Hang on. Running a-na! Jalen Lowe has committed to Georgetown in D.C.
Starting point is 00:46:11 You think it was because he saw him beat us in that game? And he was like... I tried he didn't get to play in that game. He just watched it, didn't he? Yeah, he did not play that game. He didn't play that game. Because that was we were like, well, I mean, we lost to them, but we didn't have Jaylon Love. I hope they'd have designed their offense. It's perfect for him. I actually think that's perfect for him.
Starting point is 00:46:29 I mean, like, that's a perfect school for him because he can, he can shoot a lot and he can run the, I actually think that's a really, like a smart, a smart choice for him. He's definitely a ball dominant point guard. Yeah, and so he needs to go to a school that's cool with him doing that. Yeah, I think if I'm him, that's, that's, that's, that's. a really good choice. So I wish him the best. By the way, before I go to these calls, the weather's warming up. Days are getting longer. Golden Hour's calling cornbread-infused seltzers. I have a ton of them in my house because they send them to me and Max and Miles clearly enjoyed them.
Starting point is 00:47:06 Four winning flavors, flavors, 30 calories or less per can. Open to cornbread bread and let the golden hour feeling wash over you. It's cornbread hemp. We will, just so you know, on my, on KSR, KSboard, Twitter,
Starting point is 00:47:34 I also put up a Threads account yesterday. You got up on threads. KY Sports Radio. I mean, I had it, but I actually posted a couple times. Okay. So we'll put news out on all those things today. Just keep hitting refresh today. I think this is a refresh day.
Starting point is 00:47:50 Seems like it has been a while to have one of these days where you're just constantly refreshing to see something hit. Yeah. All right. Let's go to Tim. Go ahead, Tim. My girlfriend describes me to people that she doesn't know as he's the type of guy that likes to call talk radio shows. And I don't think that's a compliment. You know, maybe she doesn't mean it like that.
Starting point is 00:48:10 Maybe she doesn't mean it like that. And she's listening. No, she means it like that. But she listens, right? You know, and when I tell her, too, you know, when we started dating, she didn't know the difference between the basketball. ball and a football and she didn't understand why every football player didn't want to be the quarterback. That being said, Matt, so let me, let me, flying him in commercial is an awful look where I'll
Starting point is 00:48:32 assure you that he flew to Lawrence, Kansas, private, because there is no airport for 300 miles. I don't think you're allowed to fly guys in private, are you? And he had to pay his own ticket on this one, right? Yeah. So, first of all, regardless, though, but they couldn't do it. He had already taken an official visit, and that's actually. one of the only rules the NCAA enforces is one official visit per school.
Starting point is 00:48:57 Let me ask you this. Under Cal, we had the auto collective with Bluegrass Motorsports, and I'm thinking we don't have that anymore because what these kids, let's not fool ourselves. They are seven months mercenaries, and right now, it is about the money. So this kid $5 million in cash. I don't think you have to worry about it. So this kid $5 million in cash and say, here's what we offer, here's $3 million, and here's what Kansas is offering. That's the difference.
Starting point is 00:49:22 Yeah. I appreciate the call. They don't, they, the car thing, yes, they used to get to drive cars back when they couldn't get money. But now the car company's just give them the car directly, as you saw with Jasper Johnson's truck. So I don't think the car part is, is an issue. Clint, go ahead, Clint. Oh, first time caller.
Starting point is 00:49:45 Who I? Who I. I got a buddy. I would call him a cow guy. That's what he refers to himself. Marcus Pope is what I call him. How many studs does Mark Pope have to land this week to make him have a little hope in Pope?
Starting point is 00:50:04 Well, I appreciate the call. I think he's got to have at least one, and I think if he has two, your buddy should have hope. And remember, for all the talk about CalVerc. versus Pope. Cal's been a 30-some-year coach. Pope's been a handful of year coach. Cows made it one farther round in two years than Pope. First year they made it to the same place. This year he made the Sweet 16. We made it to the round of 32. Pope beat him once. Cal beat him once. Their overall record is very similar. Very similar. One difference is that they won the SEC tournament
Starting point is 00:50:46 title, that's really the biggest difference. So, you know, I'm not going to act like Pope's done everything we hoped, but it's not like comparing to Cal is kind of silly. All right. Be watching the news. Tomorrow, maybe we know, maybe we don't. It's an exciting day today. Exciting 24 hours. We'll see you later. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Starting point is 00:51:15 Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman helped make you funnier. Starting point is 00:52:42 I heart radio. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clifford Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
