Starting point is 00:01:00 I'm Mungaishitigular and I'm back with a new season of my podcast, Skyline Drive. This time I talked to scientists, biopunks, crumudgeons, blues owners, super seniors, and Goa's top cryotherapy lab to try to understand this obsession with living forever and what it means for all of us. And I get into a bit of trouble along the way. I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. To make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know.

Starting point is 00:02:39 Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Wednesday, July 1st, moving to the second half of 2026. And it is unpopular opinion day. Usually one of the more fun shows of the year. Clark's Pump and Shop phone lines 859-2802287. A Vision Autoglass Text Machine is 772-745254.
Starting point is 00:03:02 in this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. If you call T.J., he'll make them pay. Here's the deal. You today have permission to call in and give your unpopular opinion. And the rules are very simple. I prefer it to be about UK sports or the state of Kentucky. But it doesn't have to be. It can be about anything that's not politics or offensive. And the second one is because I want you to be kind. And the first one is because I don't want to listen to you all argue about immigrants. Okay. So 859-280-2287. The phone lines are open. Get in here and give your unpopular opinion. You can write them on the text machine 7-7-2-7-4-5-25-4, but I would prefer that you call in and I look forward to hearing them. We're going to get to ours as well. Should be exciting, guys. Good to see you all. Good morning. How are you as well? Before we do that, though.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Couple things. USA plays in the World Cup tonight. Excited? Maybe. I'll step in. Very excited. What was that answer? Maybe. Like, why not just be excited?
Starting point is 00:04:13 It's the USA playing in the World Cup. What is the caveat? What else you got to watch? Ask me again. No, you've already ruined it. I'm excited, Matt. All right, then you go ahead. The knockout stage has been awesome these first two days, and I'm excited.
Starting point is 00:04:27 We're going to be a part of it. We've only won one knockout game in like three decades. Yeah. I'm ready to see what we can do. And you saw the stadium in Mexico. It was like, right, brer, bra, and like, everybody, like, that was a crazy atmosphere. They say stadium Azteca. And now maybe we'll have something like that for us as well.
Starting point is 00:04:45 I know the Spanish broadcaster always better, but did you hear the call of that first goal? It's incredible. There's nothing better, like a broadcast in sports. He's been doing that for a long time, that guy, right? Andreas Cantor, how do I know his name? I just, that literally just pulled that out of my head. because I remember when he did, I want to say that he sort of bounced on everyone's radar in like 94 with the World Cup.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Right when you think he's going to cut off his goal, he adds 30 more seconds. It's unbelievable. But I can't wait for us to be a part of that tonight. So we're going to do our unpopular opinions. I do want to start with something and then just move on because like it went viral last night and I really didn't mean for it too. But I feel like because it did, I need to need to address it, which was. So, yes. James Mitch Barnhart's last day. And I thought it was very nice that all the various sports
Starting point is 00:05:37 like did their little thank you Mitch most, right? Like basketball did. I think pretty much every sport did it. And many people that worked there did it. And I think the university did it. And I thought all that was very nice. Because look, he's been there forever. And for a lot of these people, he's been their boss. And I think he's their friend. And from all I've kind of heard, I think he is an amazing boss. So like I support all that. It's what. you should do. Remember I say when people die, you should say something nice about them. When it's their last day, especially if you worked for them, say something nice. Give them their flowers. That's right. But I would think a goodbye post would be the easiest thing
Starting point is 00:06:20 in the world to do, right? You were amazing. Bye. Thank you. Thank you. Love you. Going to miss you. Shannon, I would think when you give a goodbye post, it should primarily be about the person you're saying goodbye to. Yeah, not other people. Yeah, there's no reason. Just make it about the person. You're the main character today. Yes, that's main character energy. Right? Just do that. But some people can't help themselves. And I want to be clear, I'm not doing this to call this person out. I'm going to be honest with you. I was talking with Drew before. I don't even know who this person is. I've seen his name on emails for many years. I'm sure I've met him. I'm sure I've met him. him, but I, when I saw his face, did not know who he was.
Starting point is 00:07:09 You said you do know. Yeah, not well, but if we see each other, we say hello. We're cordial. I do not know him. So this is not about him. He may be and probably is a wonderful dude. And I do not want you to take this conversation to be like, go attack this guy. He's fine.
Starting point is 00:07:28 You know what? Everybody makes mistakes. So yes, they do. Water under the bridge. Sand over the water glass. whatever other analogy you want to use. Okay. Grease on the skids.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Grease on the skids. Feather breaks the camels back. Whatever. It's a straw, but it's okay. Okay, whatever. But if a straw could do it, feather could do it too. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:07:52 He writes in his post a lot of very nice things. He says there are hundreds if not. So this guy's name is Chris. There are hundreds, if not thousands of examples I could give you of why Mitch Barnhart and everyone in our department is crying. today as he walks up. Very nice stuff. Yes. Paragraph one is about Barnhart. Paragraph two is about all the good things he does. Now we get to paragraph three. Paragraph three, if I were his editor, I would have said,
Starting point is 00:08:15 okay, now close. Sincerely. I love you. I love you. If you ever need anything, you know where to go. Here's his paragraph three. You'll never hear our popular local radio show talk about all the good things this man did because it doesn't. match their agenda. It would kill them to admit the many lives he changed with his championship standards, kindness, or for flowing heart of gratitude, service to the institution, and universal respect he had across the industry. You'll never hear them opine on the top 10
Starting point is 00:08:50 finishes in the Directors Cup, national championships and SEC titles, or the Hall of Famers of all 23 sports who come back to this place year after year directly into the culture he has created at UK Athletics. I will be forever indebted to Mitch Barnhart. Thank you. You're the best. That's how he ended it. The closing paragraph was about KSR. I think it's the longest of the paragraphs too. It's pretty close. It's the longest of the paragraph. It has multiple sentences. It has. It's actually the most poetic thing he wrote. Like, what? That's called catching astray. We caught astray there. Again, I don't even know that, like, somebody on the text machine was like, did you see this?
Starting point is 00:09:34 I went, and so then I go, well, should I respond? And I, you know what? Shannon, I can't. Can't help yourself.
Starting point is 00:09:40 You got to. You know, there was, maybe if it wasn't for the Nats. Half of his goodbye was Mitch to Mitch was about us. Why is half your goodbye about me? First of all, you're lying.
Starting point is 00:09:52 We've said all those things. You have to listen yesterday. Literally, we said them all yesterday. Yesterday. Drew brought up the director's cup. We brought up the National. championships. We said every sport was better. We talked about how kind he was. You related to all the student
Starting point is 00:10:10 athletes. Yeah, his loyalty to going to every game, not missing anything. You said he went to every game. There's a video that Mario put up yesterday about it. You don't even have to go into the archives. You just needed to turn your radio on yesterday. But this is a perfect example of why the Barnhart communication era fell apart in the last few years. and there's a lot of people in that picture and some of those people I really like and some of those people whisper would say we like you all because they weren't allowed to like us in that office
Starting point is 00:10:45 correct like everyone in that photo I'm feeling with all of them I didn't know him but like you know Evan Crane and Tony and and Cammy slacks slacks like we like them but you know what if you want a symbol
Starting point is 00:11:03 of why the Barnhart era had to end. That's the post right there. So petty that even in the man's goodbye, you couldn't stop from airing your petty grievances. That's why it had to end. That is the work. Literally, if you were to go to a PR class and go, how do you not do PR, you would do that.
Starting point is 00:11:27 You would write that message. You would in a goodbye post take a shot at the media. So that the day after Mitch Barnhart leaves, the conversation will not be about how great Mitch Barnhart is, but it will be about you. That's what you did. That's how bad you are at this. I'm sure you're good at the other parts of your job, but that's ridiculous. Now, I don't think, I don't lie, just leave him alone. Like, I'm not, I need to say this and we'll move on.
Starting point is 00:11:57 But that is ridiculous. I'll also note, and again, man, do whatever you want. but the title of the post, Shannon, was, thanks for everything Mitch Barnhart, you'll always be my athletic director. You have a new boss. Starts today. Starting today.
Starting point is 00:12:15 What a slap in a face to the new guy. You have a new boss starting today. And you've already said, yep, you'll always be my athletic director. Can you imagine that? Welcome. Welcome, J-Batt. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:31 You know, I mean. How does that make you? Kimville. It had, you have to be like, uh, hello there, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:39 it is, but it is symbolic of why it fell apart at the end. The leadership and, and look, I'll say all the night, everything he says in there about Mitch is true. But here's the other thing. They became so insular,
Starting point is 00:12:57 insular, so ready for warfare. and so filled with personal grievances that they forgot that their job is PR. Their entire job is to get along with the media. How in the world? And to help the university get good press. How in the world do you write that? Like, how do you write that?
Starting point is 00:13:23 I mean, it clearly shows how they feel internally. The thing it gets me, it annoys me so much when they talk about our agenda. None of us have an agenda. We barely talk before the show starts. we want Kentucky to win everything. It's not like we sit around and try to come up with how we can tear down UK. We're all UK fans that want UK to be the best. And let me ask you, what's your agenda?
Starting point is 00:13:41 Your agenda is you can't even say goodbye to your athletic director without taking a shot at us. It would kill us to mention it apparently. Except we mentioned it yesterday and we still stood up later in the day. Like he said, his first two paragraphs are good. His third would be about J. Bat. Like, okay, now I knew era's underway. We're excited to get started. If you give Mitch his own thing, I wouldn't, I mean, you could have maybe put, I wouldn't have mentioned bad at all.
Starting point is 00:14:07 The shot at us could have been a completely separate tweet if you really wanted to take a shot at us. Or if you were good at your job, you just wouldn't do that. Absolutely. You wouldn't do that. And he got roasted for it. I kind of hate that happened to him, but you know what? You're in charge of PR. Did you not see that coming?
Starting point is 00:14:24 There are a lot of replies. I mean, that's, I hope, and I think. think this, let me say this. I am very optimistic about the future. I think there is going to be a new perspective. I'm confident about this. And I think you're going to see this play out over the next few months. I think you're going to see a completely new perspective in the way the athletic department engages with people. And I have some knowledge on this. It's coming. And I think there's going to be a completely new perspective on how PR works. And it's coming. And it's needed. And if you don't believe it's needed, here's what I would say.
Starting point is 00:15:01 say. Think about what a disaster the last three months of the Barnhart era were. You took an AD that was universally praised for being awesome. And somehow we bungled it so much that what people are going to remember is him trying to get that, is that contract at the end. That's bungled. Yep. And then things like this. I think it's going to be better. Matter of fact, I know it's going to be better. This stuff like this won't happen, I think, in the future. But on the way out, they gave us a goodbye that reminded everyone why we have to have a transition. So I wish that dude the best. I'm sure I'll run into him sometime. Probably won't be the most, you know, regular conversation. But what I do is say how I feel and to some extent represent some of
Starting point is 00:15:59 the fans. And that comment, come on, man. I'll just leave it at that. My unpopular opinion was you could have done that differently. Actually, it's probably probably, there are even people in the prize like, I don't even like KSR and this is wrong. Yeah, there are people who are like, Matt Jones stinks, but come on, man. Anyway, all right, 859-28027.
Starting point is 00:16:22 We're going to do unpopular opinions, a lead off quickly with some of ours. and then we got folks on the phones. I'm looking forward to hearing them. Remember, no judgment. Right. Unless you say something out of line. But I'm going to try to be no judgment. Even to us?
Starting point is 00:16:40 No. But to the callers. 859-280, 2287. I've got three. Hopefully you all have some. We'll take the calls. Be right back. KSR.
Starting point is 00:16:48 An IR Radio Experience. Weekend gold tickets to Ilsoni. One, two, three. Montreal with Dom Dala. Chris Lakin Friends, Woolly, Deadmouse, above and beyond, subfocus, and more.

Starting point is 00:17:24 Welcome to Savara Football, the sweet and spicy on and off the field. I'm Daniela Durand, and this is where we get to know the people behind the game, like never before, the pressure, the fame, and everything that happens when the cameras turn off. Enjoy conversations with guests like Marlbartra.
Starting point is 00:17:42 What you like Marlite Dorles or Gassiz. Sure, that Ikech, Gilles, Guilla Casillas, Puyol, and I Piquet. In Ervalencia. Yeah, in the last days, the fact that always the people, it's more in the parties at the tars. But the dream of being a footballist, that's, the truth. Sharon Escobar, Pollo Diceño. You're not with me a road.
Starting point is 00:18:01 You're viral with this. You're viral? I'm going to be there. I'm a message. Nothing more of the salutes. Federeira. If you do says, no put a legy, tell you zampas.
Starting point is 00:18:11 I'm not sure. And I love. I like. An applause. I'm really more. Listen to Zawara football on the Aege Radio app, Apple Podcast, or whatever you get your podcast. I'm Mangashit together,
Starting point is 00:18:28 and I'm back with a new season of the podcast, Skyline Drive. This time I'm diving into a rabbit hole of peptides, organoids, blood, blood, blue zones and brain replacement to try to understand what this longevity obsession is all about and what it really means to live forever for all of us. I learned about some rad science. I can make a brain for you and then we can test what draw is the best for your brain, as opposed to his brain.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Here are some hard truths. I would expect Indians to age faster, but I did not expect it to be almost. a four to five year acceleration. And get myself into a world of trouble. I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works.
Starting point is 00:19:17 I don't know. Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The Declaration, which is full of these beautifully rendered, sentences and paragraphs about enlightenment ideals, does also have this darker history to it. it. Why is it important for the darker part of the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution?
Starting point is 00:19:46 Why is it important that Americans know about it? Well, if we don't understand the full context in which our nation was founded, we won't understand the full context in which our nation now finds itself. I'm Rebecca Nagel. Gohien, Dawadol, Jeleke, Leighette, Lé, citizen of Cherokee Nation. Are you guys big chiefs fans? Hell yeah. This is First America, the true story of how the United States came to be, and how we got to this present moment.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Listen to First America on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I ain't working. Welcome back to Tegi Sports Radio. All right. We each have a bunch of them. We're going to do one at a time. Okay. Real quick.
Starting point is 00:20:38 I'm going to go with mine first. I'm going to go with my maybe least controversial of my three, but one that I do believe. I think NIL has made college sports better. I don't think it's a mess as much as people think. I mean, it's a mess for the coaches and the A.Ds, but for fans, the sports better. The only sport that arguably I think maybe has some issues that really need to be addressed is college football, but college basketball is better. More teams are good.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Not only do you have the games, but you have the games. excitement of the off season. College basketball is in people's conversations more. And the quality of play is a lot better. So while I'm not against some rules, I actually think NIL's made it better. Not just for the players, I actually think the product is better. And we are talking about college sports more often. And if these coaches are stressed and they don't like it, go do something else. We'll find another coach.
Starting point is 00:21:34 Yeah, a couple of steps away, but most of them have ridden it out. Because so it can be stress. I'm sure it is stress for those doing it. But I actually think the NIL era. I don't think college sports is a disaster. I actually think it's better. Drew, what's yours? Kind of in the same line.
Starting point is 00:21:50 I do not mind at all when a player transfers. And in most cases, I would have transferred to Colin Chandler, Travis Perry, Brandon Garrison. I don't see that as disloyal. And if I were in their shoes, I probably would have done the same thing. You think Colin Chandler should have transferred? Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:22:04 Why? Just put yourself in his shoes. You're from Utah. your whole family's there. They offered more money. You've been here two years and haven't really gotten near the team's goals. I mean, if I'm not from Kentucky
Starting point is 00:22:16 and didn't grow up a Kentucky fan, I would absolutely go back home for more money and to try another shot when I've given a place two years and just didn't get to where I wanted to go. Also, like with Garrison, I feel like fans, like they'll want to run a guy off because the team was ninth in the SEC
Starting point is 00:22:30 and then when we run them off, it was like, he was never a cat. I never understood that. I never understood that we didn't want you, but we're mad you. So there's not one player, Denzo Aberdeen, you name them. There's not one player that's left that I think was disloyal. I still consider them Wildcats.
Starting point is 00:22:44 And in most of their cases, I would have done it too. Okay. Right. I'm kind of on the same line with Drew. My first one is, I think Jasper Johnson's going to be an NBA player. I think him leaving, he's about to blossom. That is an unpopular. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 00:22:57 You think he's going to be an NBA player. Shannon, write that down. First round pick? Maybe not, but he'll be an NBA player. He's going to go to Oregon. What does NBA player mean? He gets it. How many games does he have to play?
Starting point is 00:23:11 Will he play 50 games in the NBA? I'll be like, you know, like... Will he play 50 games in the NBA? Yes. Okay. Yeah. All right. I think his new home in Oregon is going to give me a breath of fresh air.
Starting point is 00:23:22 He's going to find his shot again. They do have clean air up there. They do. All the trees. Yeah. Okay. All right. There you go, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Do you want my sports related one or non-school? You can be whatever you want. All right. I'm going to go out and left philip with this one. My opinion is that every time you go to get your driver's license renewed, you should also have to take the driver's test again. Every time. Every single time. We've done a version of this where you've got to be over 70. I see too many young people that do not know how to drive, do not deserve to be on the road.
Starting point is 00:23:51 You should have to get it renewed every time you go with your license. You should have to go take the test again. Don't you think that would be a huge hassle if everybody has to take the test every five or ten years? It's also a huge hassle every morning when I drive to work with people who shouldn't be on the road. Okay. I like that. I'll read you my first one from the text machine that I really liked. Matt, my unpopular opinion is Texas Roadhouse Cinnamon Butter is not nearly as good as regular butter and the rolls are better without it. It's very specific. But I like Texas Roadhouse Cinnamon Butter.
Starting point is 00:24:23 I didn't know anyone didn't like it. It's the best thing I think they serve, the rolls and the cinnamon butter. Because the only reason I think people go and this person's like, I don't want it. Get it out of here? It's unique. It's kind of their thing. Yes, I like flavored butter I do too
Starting point is 00:24:38 And virtually all flavored butter is good Oh, patties in Western Kentucky Flower Pot bread with strawberry butter Doesn't get any better than that Why don't more people do flavored butters? Why do we do regular butter when flavored Butters are better? Questions to keep me up at night? You can't do better than Texas Roadhouse.
Starting point is 00:24:54 They've already maxed out on it Well, not according to this person. All right, here we go. Ross, go ahead. Hey, guys. Okay, just go. Just unpopular a lot. Popular opinion, good. Just roll.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Oh, my opinion. The Super Bowl is the most overrated sporting event. The hype is not worth the game. The fan thing and everything before is fun, but the game itself is way overblown to the hype it receives. I don't disagree with that, actually. I appreciate the call. I don't, and I'd be careful because the ESPN has the Super Bowl this year, and I think they're sending this out.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Don't you do a podcast about? We also do a suit where we're there for a week. I think the pomp and circumstance of the Super Bowl is. Super Bowl is awesome. Yes. I had a lot of fun out there. But the game itself, here's a little secret. Most of the media flies home during the game.
Starting point is 00:25:47 Yeah. Like 95% of the lead up, but then they leave during the game. We flew home during the game. We were in the airport during the game. Very few times it ended up being going down to the fourth quarter. Yeah. How many classic games have there even been? I mean, the last two have definitely not been good.
Starting point is 00:26:04 I guess we had O.T. Patriots, Falcons, when it was third, when they came back. Yeah, right. There was that Cardinals' Steelers game where I think they scored on like the last play. Don't bring up Titans Rams. Titans Rams. Well, three years ago I went to OT, I think. But the last two have not been entertaining.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Patriots Giants when that tired dude caught the bonny's helmet. That's true. All right, I like that one. Eli, Eli, what's yours? Oh, boy. All right. My unpopular opinion is that the Facebook marketplace has been a net negative on the truck market. I was, I was looking at a marketplace yesterday. This dude had a 2001 Tacoma with
Starting point is 00:26:47 140,000 miles listed for 20 grand. He said it presents like a 30,000 mile truck. But you don't have to buy. But you don't, but you don't have to buy. So why is it? Yeah, but I'm saying like five, seven years ago, you could look on there. I got my first car on there. But now it's as worse as a dealership. It's, it's just horrible. It sucks. You can't. Everybody's overpriced and everything. All right. And their price galsing. I like it, Elon.
Starting point is 00:27:15 Very specific. I appreciate the call. I like when people go very specific. And the Facebook Marketplace truck section is a negative is a very specific complaint that I like. That's like a world I've never even dipped a toe in. Have you ever been on Facebook Marketplace? Yes. I don't even know how to do it.
Starting point is 00:27:35 You've been on it? Yep. I've tried to sell stuff on there. For some reason, people actually. people will act interested and then never come to get it. Oh, okay. Like I can say I've got a bike for sale. Okay, yeah, sounds good.
Starting point is 00:27:48 I'll be there tomorrow. Never show up. And this always happens. I don't know why. See, I don't even know. So how do I get to it? Is it on the front page or Facebook? Yeah, on Facebook.
Starting point is 00:27:58 Yeah. It's just on the menu. They still have pokes? I don't know. I think they did. Yeah, someone poked me recently. I get poked all the time by somebody. It calls this show regularly.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Oh, I mean, you get poked all the time? A collar? I'll tell you during the break. They poke you regularly? Regularly. Not that guy. Is it Andy? No.
Starting point is 00:28:18 It's not Andy? I'm so interested in this. So they just poke you regularly? Kentucky Joe. Kentucky Joe pokes you. All the time. Oh, he does me too. Don't feel like you're special.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Well, no one pokes me. I don't get poked by Joe. I think everyone should go on Facebook and poke Ryan. Oh. You ain't poke back. I can promise you to you get blocked. Oh, you can just get in a poke war. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:28:40 Facebook truck marketplace. Take it astray. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Is this something surf?
Starting point is 00:28:56 Oh, man. Yes. Wow. I can't believe I just came up with that. How do you know that? This song was massive for like six months. Wow. I don't know how I came up with that.
Starting point is 00:29:07 Not a surf. I almost said Shakira. serve. Nope, not a serve. Popular. Yeah. If you listen to Cover Zero, I gave my thoughts on Shakira. She's not written me yet. What about G-Love? I'm more wanting Shakira. They still need time to listen. We'll give him a few more days. Yeah. New episode of Cover Zero's out. Check it out.
Starting point is 00:29:26 By the way, a lot of people are writing text machine saying Kentucky Joe pokes them. Does he just sit around and poke people all day? I guess he does. He's a poker. Keep your head to feel worse than I'm not getting it. Yeah. Yeah. The statement is sponsored by Bringing in the Green. Debbie Green, who does bring in the green, said most businesses don't actually have a marketing problem. They have a strategy problem. They have people doing social media, events, email marketing, but nobody has stepped back and say it's working.
Starting point is 00:29:53 That's why Debbie does bringing in the green. Most of the ad companies that have really succeeded on this show have worked with Debbie. If you have a business and you want to find the marketing roadmap that works for you, go to bringing in the green. dot com slash ksr and she'll give you a free consultation bringing in the green dot com slash ksr i love debby she literally the the businesses that succeed on our show most of them use her yep at bringing in the green dot com slash ksr by the way bringing in the green reminds me there was an old gospel song uh see if this is the name of it shanan look this up bringing in the sheaves i think that's an old bringing in the sheaves yep it is
Starting point is 00:30:36 There was time about Bringing in the Sheaves I was going to play it next segment But I mean I think No you can play I don't think that's my See I can just sometimes Like not a surf and bringing in the sheaves
Starting point is 00:30:48 Or just in the back of my mind I can't remember anyone's name Including all my neighbors who I've met And I still don't know their name And now it's too late to ask You can sing bringing in the green In that tune Well when you call her you can sing bring
Starting point is 00:31:03 A lot of good ones are coming in the text machine big debate about Texas Roadhouse Butter. I didn't know this is debatable. Yeah, it's not debatable. Yeah. One person writes, Matt, my unpopular opinion, ESPN Radio is the Dollar General of Radio. Hey. Hey.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Well, it's not going to be, if you think that, it's not going to be like that anymore. There we go. Stay tuned. Just wait until August 3rd. One person writes, my unpopular opinion, making all your guests wear brown is a good thing. Oh, that is highly unpopular. That's the first one. Billy's burner account.
Starting point is 00:31:42 You think that was Billy's burner account? Unpopular opinion. Kentucky should only hang championship banners. It makes me mad that we hang final four banners. Agree or disagree. I'll disagree, but I get it. If you want to be the gold standard, that'd be the way to do it. But, you know, I like the final four banners.
Starting point is 00:31:59 When person writes, Matt, my unpopular opinion is, I love Ryan. But when he knows the players, he goes to. far in taking up for them. Well, that's your unpopular opinion, my friend. Well, of course it is. I mean, that's, that's, that's not a good comeback. That's a burn. That really wasn't a very good comeback.
Starting point is 00:32:20 Just wait. You want to try again? Hey, eat it, dude. Got it. I don't think that one was great either. Trash talking with Ryan. One person's unpopular opinion. Tyler Ulysses is overrated as a UK point guard.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Get out here. Oh, shut up. Now, wait a minute. You're supposed to be able to give these opinions, no judgment. Oh, that's right. He was a really good player, but let's be real. He was a backup on a good team, and when he was in control of the team, we lost in the second round.
Starting point is 00:32:51 He got him to the second round. Well, Jamal Murray was on that team, too. That was it. That was it. They had two players. He's a SEC player of the year. Do you think if Tyler U.S. was six-two, people would have have the same affinity for it.
Starting point is 00:33:05 Is it part of it because he's short? It helps, but to be, I'm bringing in his size, he was the defensive player of the year. He was. And the player of the year and was lights out from three went open. It's a little hard to create because of his size, but when he was open, it was going in.
Starting point is 00:33:20 You look at his accolades, best numbers of any, any UK point guard. This was a no judgment. We're just defending Tyler U.S. Wade, go ahead, Wade. My popular opinion is that of all the virtuous qualities you could have, loyalty is the worst one. It kind of goes with that last texture. But I think it's complacent, irrational faithfulness.
Starting point is 00:33:47 It's not something like real friends call each other out. I have the example of UK coaches, Stoops and Cal. How many times did they fail or were worse off because they were too faithful to their players or coaches? That's an interesting point. Wade, I appreciate to call. Wait, are you married? I'm just wondering. Is Wade married married? I am married. That's faithfulness. That's not loyalty. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:10 Make it a distinction. All right. He was prepared for that question. Wait, that was what you were ready. I appreciate to call. I actually think I value loyalty quite a bit. But he is probably right that loyalty hurts efficiency. But I value loyalty over efficiency. But when you are in a public job, you could make a strong argument that efficiency needs to value, be over loyalty. So like if you're the governor, you're the president or you're the coach of a public thing, you can't just hire your friends.
Starting point is 00:34:45 Whereas in life, in a private business, if you want to, that's okay. You know? The sports example is pretty good too. Yeah, no, I mean, he's right. A guy that's done a lot of good things for you, ride them too long. Yeah, both stoops and Cal and one could argue. Mitch had all the same issues. We saw with Cal, you stick with some of these players just too long because he was so loyal to
Starting point is 00:35:04 him. Andy, go ahead, Andy. My unpopular opinion is that the value of getting a good education is extremely overrated, specifically high school and up. You don't even need a high school. Andy's like, you don't even need a high school diploma. Just start in middle school and just go work. No, no.
Starting point is 00:35:29 I think I think that the coursework needs to be different. It's like you take the, uh, the subjects that you have like in high school for the, for the average person, algebra, chemistry, reading shakespeare as far as literature, all that stuff. The average person does not use that. I don't think that's wrong, Andy. I don't think that's wrong in the, in the examples you're using. But what I think school does for you more than anything and education does is
Starting point is 00:35:59 teaches you to think and then you can apply that to other walks of life. Like I went to law school. There's very few things from law school specifically that I remember, but it taught me how to think in a way that helps in other worlds. You see what I'm saying? So it's not like you're going to really use Shakespeare, but what you learn by you reading Shakespeare, you might use in something else you do. I agree that it does help, that some of those subjects can help you.
Starting point is 00:36:29 but as far as being required, I think that the things that need to be required, you should probably have some kind of test and kind of find out, you know, what your interests are. They used to do that. Maybe like vocational stuff. Yeah, I appreciate the call. They did that when I was a kid. You would take like the little vocational test.
Starting point is 00:36:48 Did you all do that where it would say like you should be a whatever? I probably got rid of that because they were like you're sending people down pass and that's not. But I think we took that. I understand what you're saying. I would say the vast majority of the most successful people in the world are highly educated. Not all, okay, but the vast majority. And people will be like, well, Mark Zuckerberg dropped out of college.
Starting point is 00:37:13 Yeah, but he was clear, I mean, he was already in Harvard, so he's clearly already pretty smart. You know, with that said, though, I do think, you know, as AI takes a lot of technical jobs, people who can do practical things become more valuable. You know what I mean? like people who can fix my blinds. HVAC guys. I'm serious because you're not going to be able to get. So,
Starting point is 00:37:35 so I mean, I think there's a balance. Tom, go ahead, Tom. Hey, Matt Jones. My, I want to start with, I love Kentucky, comma,
Starting point is 00:37:47 but I think Kentucky is the most, I think Kentucky is the most cookie cutter school in the power four based off of four things. One, we're just named after the state. Two, our colors are one of the most overused from just being in America, right, blue, red and white. Mascots were the most overused using, no, no, no, we don't have red, but we have blue and white. But our mascots most overused are wildcats, bulldogs, tigers, and eagles.
Starting point is 00:38:19 And really, like, I might be too close to the, like, source on this, but, like, I don't know what our traditions are, right? The closest that come to us, and maybe that's where you debate it, but the closest that come to us are Georgia, Arizona, and Mississippi State. Georgia, and this is actually for you. So you thought about this a lot. You've thought about this a lot. Let me ask you. So you think you're saying we are too generic.
Starting point is 00:38:45 All right. So if you're going to have a popular opinion, part of what you need to do is create a solution. So if you're in charge, Tom, what's your solution? Well, first of all, I'm pushing Cates if I'm J. Batch over here, you know? Like I think that just to tie with Georgia. You want us to just be the Cates? Well, I think we should be the Wildcats, but we should be like Cites, you know what I mean? And then that's just to tie Georgia.
Starting point is 00:39:12 I've always been big on Go Cates. I actually, you know, I like that one. Any other suggestion? That's just to tie Georgia. Then we got it like, and then your, you're, you're, I've listened to you for over. a decade and you're just trying to create a tradition is you can't it's got to be like it it you can't just make it happen right so I really don't have solutions but like that doesn't change how much I love Kentucky you know what I mean appreciate the call unpopular opinion I get it I think I
Starting point is 00:39:46 disagree with you but I understand where you're coming from when you first said that I thought well that's a ridiculous call but he's right we do kind of have a generic nickname Kentucky, I don't know what else you want us to call ourselves. Like Old Tucky or New Jersey's college just calls itself Rutgers. I guess we could call ourselves Kraft. Right about money. Maybe we will. But it's not crazy.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Okay. This is what I like. Unpopular opinions. We'll do more next. An IR Radio Experience. Weekend gold tickets to Ilsoni. One, two, three. With Dom Dala, Chris Lakin friends.
Starting point is 00:40:25 Wooly, Deadmouse, above and beyond, subfocus, and more. With flights from Porter Airlines, three nights at Residence in downtown Montreal, and $1,000 cash. Enter for your chance to win at iHeartRadio.ca. Ilsonique in Montreal, every day you enter is another chance to win. Welcome to Sabara Football, the sweet and spicy on and off the field. I'm Daniela Durand, and this is where we get to know the people behind the game like never before. The pressure, the fame, and everything that happens when the cameras turn off.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Enjoy conversation with guests like Marpartra. What you like Marlito Oraldes or Gassillas? Sure. Ikech, Gilles, Gilles, Puyol, and I-B-Kee-E-B-Kef. In Ervalencia. Yes, in the time, the fact that always, the fact that's always, the world, in the parties, at the tars, but the dream of being a footballist, is, the
Starting point is 00:41:22 really that. Sharon-Sobar, Pollo, bison. You're not with me, Rode. You're viral with that. You're viral. You're viral. I'm going to send a little bit of a few menacekita. Federeira, if you say, no I can't elect.
Starting point is 00:41:35 Tell us, sampas. I'm not sure. Oh, I'm not so. I like. An applause. And many more. Listen to Zawara Football on the Aege Radio app, Apple Podcast, or whatever you get your podcast. I'm mangish it together, and I'm back with a new season of the podcast Skyline Drive.
Starting point is 00:41:56 This time I'm diving into a rabbit hole of peptides, organoids, blood boys, blood, blood, blue zones and brain replacement to try to understand what this longevity obsession is all about and what it really means to live forever for all of us. I learned about some rad science. I can make a brain for you and then we can test what draw is the best for your brain, as opposed to his brain. Here are some hard truths. I would expect Indians to age faster, but I did not expect it to be almost a,
Starting point is 00:42:31 four to five year acceleration. And get myself into a world of trouble. I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. To make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know. Listen to Skyline Drive How to Live Forever on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Mainstreamed media is full of cruel depictions of the unhoused, stories that shame and blame and paint the unhoused as a monolith.
Starting point is 00:43:02 The Enhous is the podcast that's changing that. I'm Theo Henderson, creator, and host. And for years, I've created a space where the unhoused and their advocates can tell their own stories. In the last few months alone, I've interviewed unhouse parents, immigrants, mutual aid organizers, veterans, the LGBTQTIA plus community, and the policymakers who make the laws that impact the unhoused existence. Weedian Houses a two-time Webby and Signal Award-winning show
Starting point is 00:43:32 with many exciting guests on the horizon. Tune in this week for my interview with Dr. Jill Wichler, a street doctor turned influencer whose work with the unhoused community has made a huge impact online and in her community. Listen to Weythian House on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Oh, listen this. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:43:56 This sounds like my childhood. Here we go, Ryan. Bringing in the sheaves. Bringing in the sheaves. We shall come rejoicing. Bringing in the sheaves. How great is that? Awesome.
Starting point is 00:44:17 It'd be great on the podcast where people can't hear the actual music. Like you, though. And they just hear me, Acapella. I don't know. Someone really going to bring that up? Like a lawsuit that we played that? This is the right told me.
Starting point is 00:44:29 I know. They still big on this. I think he's long gone. Yeah, if he sues. He's from the grave. He's from Tennessee. Give me a break. Don't you load it takes you right back to sitting in those old churches and when the country churches? Yes.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Love it. Sunday afternoon, my mom going, now we're going to homecoming at Old Yellow Creek Baptist. Mom. Yay! I just want to go home and read a book. The NFL's on, Mom. Sorry, Binghamtown. 8-9-280-22-87.
Starting point is 00:45:00 One person writes, unpopular opinion. Older people are more likely to be rude and disrespectful than younger people. There's some truth to that. I actually think that I actually think that's true, sort of. I think online, the rudest people, the rudest people are either like teenagers or old people. Yeah. Older people are much meaner online, especially old men with sunglasses on. Old men with sunglasses.
Starting point is 00:45:29 But in general, old people, I think. younger people can be rude and disrespectful just because they're snotty, but older people, some, mostly men, I don't get this from women. I don't know a lot of older, older mean women, but older men get in their minds that they're right about everything. And if you don't have their opinion, you stink. And now, it's not everybody. But if you were to do a chart of the meanest people, most of the meanest people would be in
Starting point is 00:46:01 the older 50 plus male demographic. Do you agree with that? I can get behind that. Also, if you see clips of someone yelling at a customer service place or in a restaurant. Well, not sometimes a woman, though. Those are Karen. Well, I'm just saying it's usually an older person that's in there causing the scene. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:20 Now, don't get me wrong. Young people will also be awful. But I don't feel like there's awful to strangers. Is it because we get? But older people also can be the nicest. I feel like they get to. streams. When you get to be old, you're either insanely nice, or you're kind of stuck in your ways and mean. Is we get to the point in our life, we're like, I don't really care what you
Starting point is 00:46:42 think. Yes. And that can make you mean. I'll say whatever. Yeah, that can make you very mean. I agree. I can't wait to get there. Unpopular opinion, malls are better than online shopping. I agree with that. Go in and get to see everything. I mean, you have to deal with people, but Get to touch it. You get to touch it. Get to see if it actually fits. And see how it looks like I went into Allo there at the summit. And if I had just bought it online, I think my shorts would have shown too much thigh.
Starting point is 00:47:09 But when you try it on, I'm like, I don't need that much thigh. Like imagine we're buying our brown suits online. We don't even know if they fit. Exactly right. We could try them on in person. Exactly. Maybe I'm old for that, but I agree. Travis, go, Travis.
Starting point is 00:47:23 Yeah, first time caller, by the way. Who are? My unpopular opinion is I'm glad Grove Street Party is going away from Kentucky football. Okay, why is that? I just, it reminds me of Stoops ball, and don't get me wrong, we have some good seasons. But even when we were winning, it was kind of hard to watch. 15 points a game, 150 yards, kind of hard to watch. Okay.
Starting point is 00:47:48 So I'm ready for like excitement. Yeah, I think that would be unpopular, but I do think you had to have people that agree with you. I like that one. Appreciate it. Jackson, go Jackson. 859, 280, 2287. My unpopular opinion, and this isn't, I don't think, a big, a proper opinion, but mainly it's something to do with history of Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:48:11 And so I'm going to fight against anyone who claims that history needs to be, like, stay forever and not change. The fact that we wear only white jerseys at home games for basketball is the stupidest thing ever. We are big blue nation. Why do our fans wear blue to the games? go to a home game to watch our team walk out in white. That feels like the dumbest thing to me. Why can't we just wear blue as our home jersey?
Starting point is 00:48:36 Appreciate the call. What do you think, Drew? Used to be a rule is not now. Right. Do you don't have to get permission still? No, you just tell the team which one you're wearing and then they have to adjust. I'm still good with the white at home. I like the road blues.
Starting point is 00:48:49 I think our blues look better than our whites in virtually every sport. So I kind of agree with this guy. I thought he was going to get too. he wanted to wear like black home jerseys or something once in a while. But you're allowed to wear colors. You just have to tell the other team so that they can, but it used to be you had to wear white. That's not true anymore.
Starting point is 00:49:07 More teams seem to be doing that. The home team wearing the road jerseys. One person says one for Drew, but that his group chat crushes him on. Forest scum is Tom Hanks' worst movie. The script is ridiculous. The running scene does nothing for the movie but add time. And Tom tanks didn't have to do anything but talk slowly.
Starting point is 00:49:24 See, people just say that's trying to get under his skin. that does not phase me at all. I hear it all the time and I know they're just trying to poke me. Forest Gump is the best movie. The only Joe is trying to poke you. Well, there's people who put it on the board. My friends text it to me. But you swear by Forrest Gump. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:38 It's top, top two for sure. I think Forrest Gump is an entertaining movie, but I don't think it's like a classically great one. But I do think it's entertaining and it's rewatchable. And it teaches us history. Maybe a little. Although it taught me that we could run into the reflecting pool. And apparently that's not true anymore. We need an updated version of Forest Carolina.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Yes. Tyler, go ahead, Tyler. Hey, guys, first time, long time. Who? My unpopular opinion is that Mark Stoops is overrated. He's a mid-head football coach who played a boring style of football and was only successful here because the SEC East was the worst that had ever been. With Tennessee, Florida, and South Carolina, all having some of the worst stretches on that program history.
Starting point is 00:50:20 And he still only produced one winning SEC record that wasn't vacated. and if he was that good of a head football coach and Blue Brood Flograms would have come after him longer. Well, I appreciate the call. Thoughts? That position does exist out there. I mean, I think it's unpopular, but there are people who believe that.
Starting point is 00:50:37 See, I'm complete opposite. And I think he's one of the best coaches we've ever had here. Did things I never thought was possible. Got a 10-win season. But we only have one SEC winning record ever. It is the SEC, and we are Kentucky. The fact that we even had a winning record, I think it's pretty impressive.
Starting point is 00:50:51 Brandon, go ahead, Brandon. My unpopular opinion is the Power K is ugly and we'll bring back a lot of bad juju. My thing to represent this would be that it was used from 1975 to 1996 and, of course, was removed after Bill Curry was fired. In that time of 21 seasons, we were 18 of those seasons. We were 500 or less in wins. And I just think it's a bad juju idea. All right.
Starting point is 00:51:23 I appreciate the call. The first few of those years, they were really good. Yeah. But in the end, they were not. So there you go. Good stuff. Well, we got one more hour. The four of us have some still on our own. We got Billy's counties.
Starting point is 00:51:37 Things are rolling. I may wait and do him tomorrow because this is kind of rolling. 859-280-2287. We'll take a break. Be right back. KSR. 150 years ago, they were hunting us down to kill us. And now they're hunting down immigrants to deport them. This is First America, the true story of how the United States came to be, and how we got to this present moment.
