Starting point is 00:02:35 Sometimes our biggest decisions, without us even realizing it, aren't driven by what we truly want, but by what will prevent us from feeling lonely or being alone. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So by age 11 or so, at least 70% have a phone. I'm Dr. Joy, and this is therapy for black girls. We spend our surviving middle school run getting into what's happening inside your kids' brains. the group chat and their friendships and what you can do about it. Your child is not doing this on purpose.
Starting point is 00:03:11 That's the kind of perspective we've been pulling from the psychologists and psychiatrists who studied this for a living. Listen to Therapy for Black Girls on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, what's up on Tony Gonzalez? And I'm October Gonzalez, but you can call me Toby. We want you to join us on our new podcast, No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez. We get real about marriage, parenthood, sex, divorce, and all the nitty-gritty stuff we all think about,
Starting point is 00:03:38 but just don't say out loud. You're probably just going to be some rich guy and he's going to whisk you away. Well, this is awkward. Listen to no safe words with October and Tony Gonzalez on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Comedy Off Broadway and Lexington
Starting point is 00:03:54 welcomes Renee Fawkes, September 25th and 26th, then catch Jamie Lissau, October 1st through the 3rd, and don't miss Dustin Nickerson, October 9th and 10th, Comedy of Broadway, opened in downtown Lexington in 1987 and they're still bringing the best and stand-up comedy to the area 39 years later.
Starting point is 00:04:13 For tickets, call 859-271 joke or visit Comedy Off Broadway.com. Comedy off Broadway. This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports
Starting point is 00:04:29 Radio Tuesday. September 29th. I'm Matt Jones here in Lexington. You can give Shown and Clark's Pubbit Shop phone line 859-280-2-87. We're going to do an Ask Anything Tuesday. Tomorrow I have a special, like, what people are going to call about, little basketball preseason. But today isn't to ask anything.
Starting point is 00:04:51 And, you know, there's stuff to talk about, but I would like, like, regular or even off-the-wall questions, whether it's basketball or other things, 859-280-2287, questions, not just statements. All right. What if someone has a couple statements before a question? I'm okay with that. As long as they don't go too long. A Vision Autoglass Text Machine is 772-7754. In this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, you call T.J. I'll Make them pay. Ryan is out today. So I have Drew Shannon and we brought in Billy to sit in there. Billy gets to go up to the big chair.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Nice to see you, Billy. Yeah, thank you for having me. You were complaining during the break there that Shannon argues with you too much. Is that what you said? I was reading a text I got on our KSR pre-show text line that they were upset that Shannon has to argue about every. You all do argue a lot. Like they argue. Do they mean on the pre-show or on this show?
Starting point is 00:05:46 On the pre-show. You all argue a lot. Like you two argue more in one hour than the three of us, Drew, do in two hours. And even more than the arguing when you get one on this show or vice versa, they are quick to put all the blame on the other one for whatever we're talking about. Yeah, it is weird because like you two. if you didn't know better, you two would think you all like hate each other. Well, we're both radio guys. We're here to entertain. So that means not having the same opinion on every single topic. I mean, what a boring show, what a boring, boring show
Starting point is 00:06:18 would be if everybody agreed with everything? What a boring world we would live at if everybody agreed on everything. Well, I don't disagree with you about that. I think that's, it's good to have disagreement. I had a guy write me yesterday on the text machine. I would pull it up, but it's deep in the text machine. And by the way, 7.72, 7754. And he wrote, Matt, listening to you all talk about wearing makeup disgusted me. That's the last straw. I'm not listening anymore. And I was like, I understand just deciding you don't want to listen. But what a weird last straw to talk about people on television wearing makeup. Because every person that's on television wears makeup. I guarantee you there is some
Starting point is 00:07:04 on TV they adore. Watch nightly in there. Our president, he said I had Trump derangement syndrome. I mean, do you don't think he wears makeup? Like, have you seen, like, that's not a natural color of his face. Like, that's, like, it's makeup. People wear makeup. And I hate it, by the way.
Starting point is 00:07:22 I don't enjoy it. But, like, it was such a weird line to draw, you know? Of all the things we've done, that's the one. Like, if you were putting on makeup to go to the supermarket, that's one thing. We're talking about wearing makeup for TV. Yeah. Everybody wears them on TV. Yeah. Literally everyone. But I just found that like just to be a weird like that's it. That's it. I'm done. Now, yesterday, Mario and Ryan did a television commercial shoot with Milan and Zoom for what? Was it for Clark's Pump and Shop? All right. Come on over here, Mario. For Clark's Pump and Shop. And what's the premise of the commercial? So basically I play like a playground bully, like on the court. And I asked, what a bully.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Who's the casting director? I'm going to throw up on you. You play a bully? You're not really a bully. You're too nice. I played it well, though. I think I did. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:19 So you play a bully. What does Ryan play? Ryan's like another character who he wants next. So he's like on the sideline. Yeah, he wants to play in the game. And then what do Milan and Zoom play? They pop up. So they basically spoof into the camera.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Like, it's kind of hard to explain. So it's like. So it's a very in-depth movie. Yeah, you can say that. You can say that. Yeah. It's like a Christopher Nolan thing. It's going to, in a commercial of 30 seconds, it's going to blow your mind.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Yeah. Yeah. They magically appear like once Clark like adds them in there. And then they play us. All right. So once Clark's pumping, then they come and shop. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:59 Now, do you, how did it go? It went well. It was fun, man. It was like 3.30 to 730. So it was a long time. Yeah, it was a long shoot. Did you have your own trailer? No. I didn't see a trailer. Okay. Were Milan and Zoom nice? They were super nice. They were super nice. They're very excited for the season. Zoom didn't know it was going to be on TV. So he kind of had to learn that. He was kind of surprised. He was like, this is going to be my first time on TV. Wait a minute. Zoom didn't know that a TV commercial was going to be on TV. I'm worried about his ability to run the team. Also, Zoom said he's never been on TV. Was Washington never on TV? Well, not live. Not once, though?
Starting point is 00:09:39 Not once? He didn't think, so he knew this, he didn't think this was going to be on television. He did not know it was on TV. All right. He learned that when he got there. Come film this commercial. It's not going to be on television. That's your boy.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Are y'all getting close? Yeah, you got, like, you, so you shoot it. Yeah. Ryan was wearing his little tiny thigh-hugging shorts. So Ryan, I guess they gave him that. They told him to pick out like an outfit, and he picked out. like his shorts and his jersey from high school. And then he's another character.
Starting point is 00:10:06 So he spoofs in and then zoom in line. How long is this commercial? 30 seconds. There's a lot to teach people within 30 seconds. Okay. But you like them. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:18 They're great, man. They're great. Are you asking if I like the players? Yeah. Yeah. They're great. Okay. Do they like you?
Starting point is 00:10:24 I don't know. Maybe. I hope so. They always give you a hard time. They think that you ask too many hard questions, don't they? Yeah. They're always giving me a hard time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:33 When I see the players around you, they're always messing with you. They were making fun of my shoes yesterday. Oh, what were you wearing? During 11s, Gamas. Oh, what's wrong with those? They said that it's not like playground worthy. You're not supposed to wear them at the playground. Oh, that's probably true.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Yeah. Well, I'm looking forward to that commercial. I bet we'll see it air during a lot of games this year. Yeah. And, well, congratulations. Is this your first commercial? First one, yeah. Wow, good.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Well, it's nice to know. It was nice to have known you before you became a superstar. Stop. Don't start. All right. Well, thank you very much for that, Mario. That is exciting, isn't it? Very exciting. And I like the connection. You know, we talk about everything getting better, and these are U.K.
Starting point is 00:11:10 football players than I, or basketball players than I, NIL deal, and they wanted Ryan Lemon to be a part of it of all people. So it's, it is bonding that bridge, so to speak. Milan requested Ryan to be in it. Maybe that was a Clark's pumping shop decision. But, hey, that's good. Looking forward to it. Those shorts couldn't get any shorter.
Starting point is 00:11:27 I know that. They could not. Oh, buddy. Those are. And the jersey. Yeah. I could have shown up. throwing some shots up if they wanted Mario.
Starting point is 00:11:33 He took enough shots at media madness. It's still a talking point in our group chat. Steven's dream was to take a three in media madness and just... Billy didn't even contemplate not shooting. The moment he got the ball, he shot and you shoot it like a Polish shot putter. Like you throw it from your shoulder and it goes way high in the air. You got to shoot to score. You do.
Starting point is 00:11:58 I was trying to lead the team to victory. And none of neither of those things. things happened. You didn't score and you certainly didn't win. We did win. We did win. So I think I did something right. The formula worked. That's true. All right. So yesterday was basketball, media day. I didn't get to go because of the ESPN show. But did you go? No, I was with you doing cover zero. Oh, that's right. We were doing cover zero. They did it. They were like immediately after our show. Yeah, I watched the press conference. Didn't seem like a whole lot of news except the injury plague continues.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Jerome Morton with a knee injury and they said they were going to have to see what it was. I heard that. I didn't like that. That sounds like could be bad. Not positive. What is that? Five injuries?
Starting point is 00:12:48 We didn't have madness. We have Cam Williams injured, Trent Noah injured, Milan was injured, Jerome Morton and Frank was injured, although they did say he's back. He's just now ramping back up, yeah. that's six injuries before anything before one thing has happened you know at some point like only the 49ers have more injuries than us like Billy at some point don't you worry about that I mean why is
Starting point is 00:13:18 that we keep having all these injuries you think they have brittle bones or something Matt do we need to get an ankle doctor back in the building like I mean I don't listen I don't want to say it's a small sample size so like I don't want to say well it's a trainer or anything or I I don't know, but Shannon, like that's, that feels like too many to be random, doesn't it? What are we doing in practice to have all these injuries? I mean, I don't know. You know, we were talking about the Gillespie area when he had these guys just diving all over the floor. I don't think Pope's doing that, but it seems like something's not right with these injuries.
Starting point is 00:13:50 If we don't have Jerome Morton, that back court is very thin. It's already thin, but full strength. Yeah, I mean, that was shocking for Pope to sit down and start me today like that. I mean, I don't think there was a whisper of that out there anywhere. I mean, people were just stunned that there's another injury. The football team has played four games and has a shorter injury report than the basketball team that has not done anything. You know what? That's a really good point.
Starting point is 00:14:15 That is crazy. There have been top ten teams. In football than in basketball. And football has played four games. I guess Alabama and Texas A&M. And the entry report is longer on the other side of campus. I don't know, man. I know I keep saying this.
Starting point is 00:14:33 It just feels like if it weren't for bad luck, Mark Pope would have no luck at all, gloom, despair, and agony on me. Like, it just, he can't get a break. But I also don't know what they're deciding and what they're doing. But when you go one by one, I mean, Frank kind of came in hurt. Frank's just been hurt.
Starting point is 00:14:52 I mean, Milan's a finger. Does the strength and conditioning? It's never the same thing. And I don't know the Morton thing very well. I'm diving on the floor. I don't know. Yeah. But I mean, they all seem pretty fluky.
Starting point is 00:15:04 It's crazy. And then, okay, so I need, here's what I don't know. What is Sleepers media? I don't know what it is either, but occasionally. But what is it? Sleeper is a fantasy football site. So what is Sleeper's media? Is that fantasy?
Starting point is 00:15:20 I'm guessing. I'm guessing. I'm guessing. Okay. So I just had a video pop up. And let me just say, I have no idea. I'm giving no credibility to this beyond it's a talking point. All right.
Starting point is 00:15:31 So Sleepers Media says that the buzz in college basketball recruiting circles is that that Lewis Uveho. And he's the seven-footer. Yeah, great shot block. He looks like second coming of Nerlin's got the timing, the link, all that. And people thought Kentucky might lead. They were in the middle. There's four or five teams.
Starting point is 00:15:56 And he just visited and it went well. He visited, Shannon. I don't want you to go look at the picture that they took with the I didn't like that picture Did you see the picture? Yes, yes Why?
Starting point is 00:16:10 Why? What are they doing? I don't know. It's not as bad as when we wore those little construction vass. Had the little plastic shovels. Why was he hugging like? Showing him some love.
Starting point is 00:16:22 I don't, I didn't like it. What is? You know, can we not just pose normally. Do you want to bring the shovel back? I don't know. The shovel worked because that guy went to Arkansas and followed them. We laughed in the moment. Maybe we should have had a shovel. All right. But anyway, that guy, Sleepers Media said that Kentucky pushed hard for a commitment
Starting point is 00:16:48 while he was here. And in the process may have pushed so hard that it pushed him away from the school. Now, I see Sleepers Media, and I'm like, I don't know what this is. So I assume this isn't true. And then I texted like the one person I know who's kind of besides Jack that's like really involved in recruiting and they text me back and go 100% correct. The only thing I know is...
Starting point is 00:17:11 And that worries me. Does Mark Pope come on too strong? It's a little too hard too early. Yes. Sometimes that can happen Shannon like when you're dating. You and I have a relationship advice. People can come on too strong. Yeah. Initial. You got to show them that you're interested, but not like the world's going to end if I don't have you on my team.
Starting point is 00:17:29 I mean, you can't look at them and go, let's have a baby. Yeah. First date. Like, you have to, you have to. He's into it. Go to dinner first. Yeah. I mean, like, you don't want to go between the dinner and a drink after, be like, all right, our children, what are we naming?
Starting point is 00:17:47 And I worry when I, like, so when Sleepers Media says it, I'm like, I don't know who these guys are. This is nothing. But then when I kind of got it confirmed, and then the picture. And I just, I, oh. Sleepers media, I don't know much about them. Occasionally they pop up on the board, and they are one of those things that are looking to poke and troll. Oh, they like to poke? Definitely like to poke.
Starting point is 00:18:06 Okay. But then I'm not saying they're wrong here. And they said that that was correct. I'm with you. I'm not saying they're wrong. Because then all of a sudden as soon as he left, he added a bunch of new schools to his list. It's not even like a big list. That's never a good sign either, Billy.
Starting point is 00:18:19 As soon as they leave the visit, they're like, I'm visiting four more schools. Right. I figured Keegan Brown would be the guy negotiating with these players, but it sounds like Mark Pope is still doing his thing with. I'm not sure he's not one to negotiating, but I just I want it to work. But we knew this. We know he's a little.
Starting point is 00:18:43 Can we not just take normal pictures? I didn't see the picture. What is the picture? Where did I find the picture? Just look at the picture. And you'll see what I'm saying. I will be right back. The long loading times.
Starting point is 00:18:59 The glitchy video calls. That's your house asking for better internet. Switch to Bell Pure Fiber, Canada's most reliable internet awarded by Open Signal from 70, $25 a month. Price guaranteed for two years on a two-year term and auto pay credit. Visit bell.ca for more details and to check availability. Bell, connection is everything. Lisa? We should tell them about our new show. Oh my God, Lexi. We have a new podcast. It's called Don't
Starting point is 00:19:31 Lie to Me. I'm Lexi Iwano. We're two best friends, 22 years apart, but so close at heart. And I'm Lisa Di Giulio, the old one, which means we have wildly different references, occasionally different opinions and at this point in my 50s I've lived it all. I'm not going to get anyone fighting. That is wild. I learned that about you today. Now in my 30s being the founder of new shoes, good taste is my business and I've always got something to say. If men were just honest about this, they would be so much more peace in the world. We're going to talk about dating, relationships, beauty, getting older, and a little wiser. We're best friends, but we don't always agree. Because you told us how accommodating you are.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Obviously, I would do what I think I could do to fight to fight, but there's only so much fight I can fight. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Liar. Listen on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:20:32 I don't really care. I'm Lacey Mosley, author, actor, stand-up comedian, creator, and host of Scam Goddess Podcast. The True Crime Comedy Podcast. all about robbery, fraud, and those who practice it. Each week I bring on incredible guests like Conan O'Brien, Iowa Debris, Lamorne Morris, and Nicole Beyer. Ooh, I scammed them.
Starting point is 00:20:52 What? I can talk to you for an hour. You're a generational yapper like me. That's why I had to make yapping a job. And the scams run the gamut. I'm talking about scams from the 1800s all the way up to today. I also warn you and keep you safe against scammers. Call your grandparents.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Tell your parents to stop clicking on links, please. And now you can catch full episodes of my show on YouTube. If there's a scam, I'm here to protect you. And I'm also here to laugh with you. So if you like fun, if you like comedy, and you like learning and protecting yourself from criminals, start listening to Scam Goddess on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, this is Kylie Breakman. Angel Geratana.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Jeremy Colhane, Patrick McDonald. And we're the hosts of the Artists on Artists on Artists. on artist podcast. The improvised character comedy podcast where each week a new panel of artists discuss their craft. Join us for a panel of wellness influencers. What I try to do is faux journal. I don't know. Have you guys heard of faux journaling? Yeah, it's reading. It's called reading. So you're, so we don't like to use that word anymore. Okay. A panel of New Yorker cartoonists. Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class? No. I've been dying too. I'm so sorry. I'm seeing a a reading of Sadako and the Thousand
Starting point is 00:22:12 Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14th. That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30. No way. You have to come to the last bookstore though. Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday.
Starting point is 00:22:29 A panel of Eurovision participants. And we do a little Halloween sometimes. Does the Pope dress up? He winks on Halloween. It's right up next to the microphone. I hear you get all the live. tear the eyelashes hit each other. You never seen Italy so quiet
Starting point is 00:22:44 as when the Pope gets up to wink on Halloween. Listen to artists on artists on artists on artists on artists on the IHard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. By age 11 or so, at least 70% have a phone. Middle school is a different world than the one we grew up in.
Starting point is 00:23:01 I'm Dr. Joy, and this is therapy for black girls. We spend real time on it in our surviving middle school run, bringing in a child psychologist and a psychiatrist who's raising two black girls of his own to talk about what's really going on with our kids right now. So it's literally physiological and neurological and psychological and psychological chaos happening all at the same time. We got into group chats and gaming, friendships and bullying, and how to tell
Starting point is 00:23:26 the difference between healthy monitoring and the kind of surveillance that erodes trust. There's belonging. You could think of belonging as I can be myself and I can still be accepted. And then there's fitting in. Spitting in says I have to change who I am in. to avoid rejection. Then we turn the conversation toward the fathers, sitting down with therapists' cure gains on black fatherhood and what it means to raise a daughter through this stage. You don't have on shorts, so you can't do flips,
Starting point is 00:23:52 you have on the dressy up across your legs. That's the range of this run, from screen time to identity to the fathers doing the work at home. You have to get off her device, but the reality is there's a lot of life out there that we don't want you as your adults in their lives to miss out on. This has been our surviving middle school run, brought to you by the people who spend their careers thinking about exactly this.
Starting point is 00:24:14 I'm Dr. Joy. Listen to Therapy for Black Girls on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Self Care September is here, which means it's time to rethink what self-care actually means. Yes, self-care can be a long walk. It can be in everything shower. It can be putting your phone on Do Not Disturb. But sometimes it's actually about sitting with the uncomfortable stuff. And understanding your patterns, your boundaries,
Starting point is 00:24:38 finally figuring out while you keep doing things that you swore you would never do again. I'm Gemma Spag, the host of the Psychology of Your 20s podcast, and each week we unpack the psychology behind the experiences that shape your 20s, from relationships and friendships to money, anxiety, confidence, attachment, just becoming more comfortable with who you are. Unlike the quarter life crisis, which is depicted as the collapse, the quarter life reinvention is the expansion and growth of something. When we develop the ability to be happy by ourselves, nobody else can take that from you.
Starting point is 00:25:10 So this self-care September, don't just take care of yourself. Get to know yourself as well. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Brett Coleman. And I'm Trevor Sycambe. Have you ever watched a game and wondered what really made the difference beyond the final score? That's exactly why we created NFL Pro. Got a man wide open.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Every week, we use exclusively. exclusive next-gen stats insights and NFL content to break down the biggest stories, matchups, and moments from around the league. We go beyond the box score to uncover the numbers, the tendencies, and details that help explain what actually happened on the field. Fires it out in the flat to Barclay, who beats one man, spins past another, leaps over at third. And don't worry, this isn't just a show for stats experts.
Starting point is 00:26:03 We use advanced analytics to help tell the story behind the game. turning the numbers into insights that every fan can understand and enjoy. So whether you're a casual fan learning more about football or a hardcore fan who can't get enough analysis, our goal is to help you see the game in a whole new way. If you've ever wanted to know why a playwork, how a matchup was won, or what most fans missed on Sunday, NFL Pro delivers insights you simply can't get anywhere else. Listen to NFL Pro on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your punch. Yes.
Starting point is 00:26:46 Welcome back, Tughey Sports Radio 8,5928027. I want to be clear. I don't know. Look, look, I don't know if the sleepers thing. By the way, did you ever see that movie, Shannon? That's like Brad Pitt. It's a hard movie to watch, but it's a great cast. A lot of people in it.
Starting point is 00:27:06 A lot of great, like really good actors. Brad Pitt and I think Matt Damon's in it and like. Kevin Bacon. Yeah, it's an awesome cast. but it's not a fun watch. But anyway, I don't have any idea of what they're saying is true, except I'm just, I also will use my mind and go, all right, he leaves the visit, he adds other schools.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Then you start hearing these chatter, and then the guy I talked to said it, and then like, and then the picture. And like, it's just, pictures doing a lot of work for you. I saw the picture. That was something. Okay. Don't act like I'm ridiculous. I don't.
Starting point is 00:27:44 I don't think you're ridiculous. Look at that picture. Would you take that picture with someone you don't know? No. No, I would not. Even weirder when you're trying to get them to go to your school. No. I don't know if I take that picture with you guys.
Starting point is 00:28:01 So anyway, and then, all right, so people are writing in about the injuries. And by the way, it's Ask Anything Tuesday. 859-280-2287. Got a couple open lines.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Give a shout. One person says, Matt, do you think we need to change the practice floor? I mean, you know, they always said the turf in New York would, in the football would hurt people's legs. Maybe. Surely we have a floor that's up to standard. I don't know. One person says, Matt, it's Annabelle.
Starting point is 00:28:29 It's your fault. This started two years ago. Now, that's the opinion I can give behind. You laughed at Annabelle's face. I have apologized to Annabelle multiple times. Damage was done. You didn't mean it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:41 Do it to her face. Get that doll in here. Do we bring her back? Bring the doll. I'll look at that stupid doll and say we are. I'm sorry. Stupid. Will you stop it? That's not a sincere apology. You can't call somebody stupid and then say I'm sorry. Yes. Someone else just got hurt when you said that.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Look, if there's an injury now that's in the next 48 hours, I'll go find that damn dog. And I'll go up to it and I'll, whatever, right? I'll take that picture. Okay. There we go. That's the one thing. I think they can undo all of this is Matt making me recreating that picture with Annabeau. That's the key. It can't be the practice floor though. I don't think it can't eat.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Bring your non-slip shoes. But it is an absurd amount of injuries we've had. It is. Some of them, we are signing guys with injury history. And that I don't give you much for. That's true. But this and Milo, there's still been plenty of ones that have occurred at UK. I mean, the Blue White game, which by the way, you mentioned we're not doing that this year. So we're not doing the Blue White game.
Starting point is 00:29:40 I get it. If I were him, I wouldn't play. I mean, you literally lost your point guard in blue white game this year. Now, I would say that's like just bad luck because, you know, you practice every day. So, but just for vibes, I understand they're going to make it an open practice. I think you're going to have a hard time selling tickets to an open practice. Yeah. But nevertheless, because we had one for free. But I still, I understand why he's doing that. I get it. I do. If it's truly for injuries, I get it, especially with how last year went. On the other side, I do wonder, like, are you capable of all these things? We didn't have a camp
Starting point is 00:30:13 because you just didn't get it together. We didn't have foreign trip because you didn't get together. So they did do the hoops and heels. Yeah. None of us went because it's women. I do wonder, if you went to that, I have found over the years that you can get the vibes of a team from that, including like the mood of the coaches.
Starting point is 00:30:33 If you went to that, 859-28027, I'd really actually like to hear how it went because we didn't go. It wasn't a massive crowd from when I saw the pictures, but they also didn't really advertise. you know, but I would be interested in seeing how that went. Definitely. Because that's like the one thing they've really had this summer. I used to emcee that quite a bit.
Starting point is 00:30:53 And when I did, when the vibes were good, Billy, you kind of were like, oh, okay. Yeah, it's an event where you can learn some small details. You know, the open practice. Hopefully Mark Pope doesn't set the tone. Quite the same way he did with the media the other day. You guys aren't giving that one up. I would have loved to have been there because it must have been bad. if you'd been there.
Starting point is 00:31:14 Talked about it. I wasn't there. You were there, Billy, right? I was there. We've heard Drew. We don't mean to just hound on it, but it was bizarre. We've heard Drew and Ryan's take. I was shocked.
Starting point is 00:31:23 And then it was very awkward in the hallway for 25 minutes. So he like pushed you all out. Two or three times, Drew. And Jerry Tipton. And Jerry was not stopped talking. It'd be like Bob and Jamestown taking a call at a remote. So Jerry was Bob and James town. And Matt was Mark Pope was mad in that situation.
Starting point is 00:31:41 After Pope was the maddest when we got our curt words. Jerry kept talking. Jerry then kept talking. I was like, all right, Jerry, can't save you at this point. That's kind of funny. All right, Andy, go ahead, Andy. Okay, so I got a hypothetical here. All right, here we go. Okay, so it's for all y'all. Your co-host is getting ready to be convicted of a crime that he did not commit, and it's getting ready to go do prison time and do two years. You have the opportunity to save them. Only thing you have to do is get a tattoo of the college team you hate the most. Are you doing it? All right. So I know that he's innocent. You know he's innocent. And how big is this tattoo got to be? I mean, it's got to be visible
Starting point is 00:32:34 on your arm. If it's like, if it was Drew, yes, I would get the tattoo. I would get to keep Drew from two years of prison, I would get hit, I would get like a UT or Louisville tattoo. Yes, that's friendship, right? Right. Yeah, I think you got to do it. I would do it, Drew. No, no, no, no, I'll write your letters. What?
Starting point is 00:33:00 I'll write you letters. Oh, you're letting me go to prison. I'm just kidding, because you said that. No, I would do it because there's an out. After two years, just cover that thing up with something else. That's exactly. We'll get something else. I'm completely with you.
Starting point is 00:33:12 I would do it. I would do it for all of you all, except Billy. And it becomes a little story to tell. No, I would do it for you, Bill. I would do it for you. Well, thank you. I don't know if I'd do it for Shannon. I think it's okay.
Starting point is 00:33:21 See, I can always tell. I think he'd appreciate the break, honestly. Sean. Well, then you'd lose your job because the pre-show would fall apart. Sean, go ahead, Sean. Hey, guys, I was reflecting the other day on callers. Oh, callers of the past and present. And I was thinking, I always thought fake Randy Savage was a very underrated caller.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Me too. Which leads me to my questions. Which leads me to my questions. we all do another callers bracket and if so do you think Sean once read tickets at least warrants a 16th?
Starting point is 00:33:53 I appreciate the call. Listen, back in the day, we took a lot more callers and we had a lot more regular callers in part because we had a lot less listeners. Oftentimes it was just me and Ryan for a long period on the show.
Starting point is 00:34:09 And so like we had more room for that. We do a lot more topics So we don't take as many. You know, I like having callers. But like I understand a lot of people don't want to hold for a long time. And I get it. And I think that's part of it. So it's a balance.
Starting point is 00:34:25 But. And a lot of our callers have died. Which I don't mean to put that out. That makes it all right. It's true. A lot of the characters have passed. One of them's on the phone right now. We'll be right back.
Starting point is 00:34:38 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. I would get a tattoo to keep you all out of prison. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:34:52 There's some people I get a tattoo to have them be in prison. Me too. Actually, there's not. I'm not a vengeful person at all. 59-280-2287. Text machine is 772-744-5-254. One person writes, Matt, I can't find the picture. Where is it?
Starting point is 00:35:12 I hope it's buried into history. No, it's on Twitter. KSR. KSR Twitter account. We weren't supposed to say that. Whoops. Billy does that all the time. He does.
Starting point is 00:35:25 That's okay. I remember how Ryan one time said my source was Mike Pratt when I specifically said, don't say who told me this. Remember when he was later and he goes Mike Pratt? Remember when Billy said that the OVW show was going to be on Netflix? Yes, that's right. You broke the Netflix show. Even though I had a signed a lot of it.
Starting point is 00:35:42 a contract to say. I will say it. You literally had me in breach of contract with Netflix and BBC. Well, I did feel bad about that one. If you remember, we're at Kentucky branded and I had never, I don't think I said another word that segment, Shannon. I think I took the show from there. Yeah, I was not, not happy at all. We got to play something here. You saw, you saw the USC. You saw the Oregon, Dante Moore get hit. Yes, gross. Awful hit. Apparently, he's okay, which is good.
Starting point is 00:36:18 Not sure if he's going to play again this year, but he's okay. Awful, awful hit. Dude gets up, he celebrates, etc. So you thought this story like couldn't be worse. And then they just put out the video of the USC radio call of it. Now, I'm all for radio calls should be Homer. Oh, definitely. Like we want Tom Leach rooting for Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:36:43 You want to feel it. I like when Jeff Piccoro argues with the officiating. Everybody agrees you want your home call to be Homer. Am I right? Yes, yes. But there's a difference between being Homer and denying reality. This call, now remember, if you've seen the play, you know how egregious it was. Here was the USC call of it.
Starting point is 00:37:07 He did not try to slide feet first, and Stevens went in helmet first, but he kind of ran into Dante Moore, who ducked into that hit. I did not see him put his feet out first. I saw him dive forward and not give himself. He's laying feet first. He is now because they spun him around. I want to see the replay. Here he goes down into it. Yeah, not a feet first slide, more of a knee slide.
Starting point is 00:37:33 It didn't look like targeting on the replay to us. Wow. What game are you watching? He argued that he spun him around. And then I love the guy. Well, first of all, I love the guy goes, he's laying feet first. He's doing his best. He's trying to help the guy.
Starting point is 00:37:52 And then he goes, well, he got spun around. Then they show the replay and he goes, well, it was knee first. Which, by the way, still, same rules would apply. Unbelievable. And if you were to watch the video, the color guy just looks at the camera like, he nods no like I don't agree with this I do not agree with this I know this is going out to the world I am not agreeing the cameras to the side at no point are they acknowledging there's a camera and then he turns and looks straight at it nods his head no like I'm not a part of this that dude I've never seen someone ignore reality more yeah well unfortunately we see that a lot with these homer broadcasts
Starting point is 00:38:29 maybe athletic departments are very critical of any criticism that they get at all but he said they he dove head first that is just a blatant lie. He was trying to blame more. Yeah, but you're listening to the radio, nobody knows, right? Yeah, if you're listening to radio, you're like, oh, he must have divot head first and got flipped around. He's laying feet first, man. And your own partners, looking at the camera
Starting point is 00:38:50 trying to save himself, like, I'm not a part. Yeah. Then after the game, Dan Lanning, the coach of Oregon, he did like a Shug Knight Welcome to Death Row. Did you see that? I didn't see Lanning's reaction. So, So Lannin, you remember many, many years ago, Shannon, when Shug Knight came out and was like, if you want to be a rapper and not have the producer all dancing in the videos, like, he was making fun of Puff Daddy.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Right. Right. And he was like, if you don't want to, then come to death row. Dan Lannning did that after the game. He was like, if you want to come and win football games, come to Oregon. If you want to go to concerts and see Chris Brown, go to USC. But if you want to win, go to Oregon. And then he just gets up and walks out.
Starting point is 00:39:37 I did see that now that you mentioned it. That was kind of awesome. Yeah, I guess there was a Chris Brown concert before or after that game. Okay, got you. Yeah, so it was a direct shot to this scene. He must really not like Lincoln Riley to say that, you know? Not at all. Yeah, a little swaggy Dan.
Starting point is 00:39:51 It was. That was definitely a welcome to death row. For sure. Yes. And got to defend his guy there too. I know that was more about just the two programs, but you could see why I wasn't holding back in his comments after what had been. I'd be mad too. I mean, look, they got one of the best
Starting point is 00:40:04 quarterbacks in the country, and he's knocked out, may not play all the rest of the year because of a dirty hit. And the guy was out celebrating after the dirty hit. I'd be mad, too, if I was a couple. I was thinking Will Stein finally gets a noon game where we can go home, sit on the couch. He's probably watching Oregon and Dante Moore and his quarterback. Who he loves. Yeah. Yeah, that's got to be tough. Chris Brown concerts are pretty graphic. Well, thank you for that edition.
Starting point is 00:40:25 I don't know if you've seen that. I don't know if you've seen that, but that is a little weird. Okay. We got Wynonna here. Yeah, we're different. Chris Brown. We got a Wynona, J.D. Shelburne duo. Let's go to Kevin C. What's up, Kevin?
Starting point is 00:40:42 Hey, Matt. I got a question thing. Let's do it. Okay, I've always been a fan of sports photography. And if you think about some of the more iconic images, like Jordan jumping from the free-go line, Willie Maze's basket catch, O'Dell Beckham's catch. All the images are of the athlete just shy. completing the play, like a peak of the jump of a don't.
Starting point is 00:41:05 So you know where I'm going. Is there an unwritten rule among sports photographers that they're not going to publish or make a big deal of the photo if they don't complete the play? Because if not, I want to hire the nearest photographer having to meet me up a wind dot. I'm going to jump from half court. And then act like you made it. I like that. That's a good idea. He is right, though.
Starting point is 00:41:26 The most iconic photographs are usually right before you do the deed. right so it's like Jordan in the air because you know what happens after because you know what happens after right you know the couple of exceptions Ali was after he had knocked out and he's saying get up
Starting point is 00:41:45 yeah right but in general he's right that is like right before what is the most question here for you on asking what is the most iconic UK photograph of all time either in a game or out of a game
Starting point is 00:41:59 let's just think And text machine, 772, 775254. Not video, picture. A couple that come to mind. It's not in a game, but Anthony Davis with the basketball. That one came to mind. Okay. That one's pretty iconic.
Starting point is 00:42:15 I have one more like that. Okay. Mashburn squeezing the ball. Mashprin squeezing the ball. That's a really good one. Yes. That's a really, really good one. Cameron Mills is shot?
Starting point is 00:42:26 Yeah. Well, are you, I was thinking like Padgett Pads of flexing after the shot. My grandparents had that framed in their house. You're right, though. There's the Cameron Mills pumping his fist, but I think of that more as the video of it. There was one that was in our I-Heart bathroom that stared at us every time we used the bathroom.
Starting point is 00:42:43 So that's the iconic one that had all the famous media photographer. So that's the shot from that game in like Wilbon and Cornheiser and all these people are sitting on Press Row. That's a really good one. Lupica, it's like kind of an iconic group of people that were there watching that game. It's a screen grab, but Uly's bleeding at Louisville. I like that one. Uly's bleeding. There's another one that's like that of Willie
Starting point is 00:43:09 yelling at Montrez-Harrell after he had stood over him. There's a really great still photo of James Young going up for that dunk against Yukon. He's in the air. I like the photo of Bogans and Fitch popping their jerseys in Florida. That's a great one. That's a really good one. Bogan's and Fitch holding their jerseys up because the photo, like you can see the fans yelling.
Starting point is 00:43:33 It's not a Kentucky one, but I always think of the Marshall Henderson and all those old Auburn people screaming at him in the front row and the old man. That's a really good picture. Like, I'm trying to think of older ones. Jack on the cover of SI in 78. Yes, and he's golden shooting over Duke. He's shooting the shot. You're exactly, that's a good one. There's the one, I want to say it's the Fab Five, or maybe it's the Rupp's Runtz.
Starting point is 00:43:58 of Rupp is in front and the players are, it's Rupp's fronts, I think, and the players are behind him. You know what I'm talking about? That's a good one. There's got to be one from 96. I'm not placing it. Anything that stands out from... Well, the Sports Illustrated cover is Antoine Walker Duncan, but it's not a great. I don't think that's a great photo.
Starting point is 00:44:16 I can't think of anything from that year that just jumps out as a photo. How about Pope holding the 96 title coming off the bus at the Big Blue Revival? Slow down. Yeah. I mean, that's okay. Big. I won't downplay that moment. That was wild. We had grown men crying in there that day.
Starting point is 00:44:33 Yeah, it would be interesting question. 772. Are there any football? 774. Okay, I was thinking football. Cash Daniel with the water bottles. Cash Daniel was the water. It's not bad.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Is there a still frame of that? Oh, yeah, I guess that was more of a video, but I'm sure there is a still frame of it. Lamar fumbling. Stevie Johnson's sticking his tongue out. I don't remember the video of the picture, though. He does do that. The tongue out? Remember we had those little cutouts on a possible.
Starting point is 00:45:01 Oh, that's right. He did have the little tugout. Stephen Johnson. You're talking about Stephen. You said Stevie. It's right. Stephen Johnson. That's a good one.
Starting point is 00:45:09 Well, Stevie Johnson has the, he did a pose after LSU. Yes, he has that way he does the thing. Oh, this is good. Let's see. We'll think of others, I'm sure. Because I know there's a lot. Oh, Mark Stoops punching the ceiling out at Missouri where he's crowds out. That's a great one.
Starting point is 00:45:25 That's a great one where they're holding him up in the air. punching the towel. That's a really, really good one. Good call. I like that. Cornbread hemp.com. I don't know why this topic is making me. I think I was just keep thinking about that Pope picture and I need something to get it out of my brain.
Starting point is 00:45:39 So these other ones are helping me. Cornbreadthip.com. Cornbread's brand new margarita-seltzer is here and we already wish it came in a pitcher. Starting point is 00:46:04 Thank you very much, baseball. Let's go Braves. This team right here. Braves has preempted me. So I have two days off. And I kind of hope it goes to a game three because then I have three days off. I want that for you, but also I want to get Phillies behind us. Yeah, this is great.
Starting point is 00:46:17 I did get a day off, still get paid. Come on. Heck yeah. Just keep playing baseball. Just be a Braves fan now. That's right. Come back. Well, no, I'm for three games.

And I'm Lisa DiGulio, the old one, which means we have wildly different references, occasionally different opinions. And at this point in my 50s, I've lived it all. Now in my 30s, being the founder of new shoes, good taste is. is my business and I've always got something to say.

We're best friends, but we don't always agree. Because you told us how accommodating you are. By age 11 or so, at least 70% have a phone. Middle school is a different world than the one we grew up in. I'm Dr. Joy, and this is therapy for black girls.
Starting point is 00:50:38 We spent real time on it in our surviving middle school run, bringing in a child psychologist and a psychiatrist who's raising two black girls of his own to talk about what's really going on with our kids right now. So it's literally physiological and neurological and psychological and psychological chaos happening all this end up. We got into group chats and gaming, friendships and bullying, and how to tell the difference between healthy monitoring and the kind of surveillance that erodes trust. There's belonging. You could think of belonging as, I can be myself and I can still be accepted,
Starting point is 00:51:09 and then there's fitting in. Spitting in says, I have to change who I am in order to avoid rejection. Then we turn the conversation toward the fathers, sitting down with therapist Keir Gaines on Black fatherhood and what it means to raise a daughter through this stage. You don't have on shorts, so you can't do flips, you have on the dressy up across your legs. That's the range of this run, from screen time to identity to the father's doing the work at home. We have to get off her device. But the reality is there's a lot of life out there that we don't want you as your adults
Starting point is 00:51:39 in their lives to miss out on. This has been our surviving middle school run. Brought to you by the people who spend their careers thinking about exactly this. I'm Dr. Joy. Self Care September is here, which means it's time to rethink what self-care actually means. Yes, self-care can be a little.
Starting point is 00:52:01 long walk. It can be in everything shower, it can be putting your phone on do not disturb, but sometimes it's actually about sitting with the uncomfortable stuff and understanding your patterns, your boundaries, finally figuring out while you keep doing things that you swore you would never do again.
Starting point is 00:52:44 So this self-care September, don't just take care of yourself. Get to know yourself as well. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Brett Coleman. And I'm Trevor Sycamma. Starting point is 00:54:13 Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. Mr. Belding Dodge, Shannon. Dennis Haskins, age 75 years old. I love Save by the Bill. I'm sad to see that. Yeah. I think everybody around our age watch Save By the Bell. Dude, Saved by the Bell is if you're 42 through 50, like everyone has a, like
Starting point is 00:54:33 Like, we love Saved by the Bell. Everything about Saved by the Bell. I mean, we know the characters. You got Zach, Slater, Screech, Kelly, Lisa, and then Jesse. Mr. Belding. Jesse blew our mind when she then went to showgirls. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Still can't believe she did that. Mario Lopez now on Access Hollywood. I guess he's the most successful one that came from that show, wouldn't you say? Surprisingly, yeah. I think that's right. Because the other one would be the Zach, whatever. his name is. Yeah, Mark Paul Gossler.
Starting point is 00:55:05 He was on Franklin & Bash, a show I did enjoy quite a bit. I'm a big Franklin and Bash guy. Yeah, I'll tell you an interesting thing about Mr. Building, Dennis Haskins. He would call ESPN Radio. He had the hotline. Oh, wow. And he would just call shows all the time. Called Matt Meier in a couple times.
Starting point is 00:55:22 What's going on here? He would call, he listened to ESPN Radio all the time, and he would just randomly call. And he was one of the few people they gave the hotline. I feel you got to give Mr. Belding the hotline. Mr. Belding had the hotline. And he would just make normal calls. He wouldn't be like this is Mr. Belding. He'd be like, this is a guy.
Starting point is 00:55:39 No, he'd just be like Dennis and be like, The Eagles are going to win tonight. Going to Dennis at Bayside. But he's like known as one of the ESV. Like I wouldn't be surprised if today, throughout the day, people mention it. Because like he called all the shows. I'm trying to pull it up.
Starting point is 00:55:56 You all might remember. I got absolutely hammered with him on 4th Street Live in Louisville. He did an appearance. What was that club in Louisville? he did like an appearance but then we just went out together. Yeah. We had the one that was angels and devils or whatever. What was the name?
Starting point is 00:56:11 Godfathers. No, no, no, no, no. I got to find this photo. All right, so let me give you some of these. Speaking of photos, let's do some of these. Ashley Judd Hockey Post. Oh, of course. Iconic.
Starting point is 00:56:20 Is that the most famous Kentucky photo? It's on the Mount Rushmore. It's got to be, I think you could make a strong argument. That's the most famous Kentucky photo of all time. And she didn't even play here. definitely didn't play hockey. Yeah. I mean, I think that's, how about McGlore
Starting point is 00:56:37 stabilizing Wojo's neck? That's a good one. That's a really good one. I have that one because I love it so much because I love Maglore. The Aaron Harrison shot that was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, it was kind of taken from behind a little bit. Cousins Call Me.
Starting point is 00:56:52 It's a really good one. Yeah, that's a good one. Let's see. You had Ashton Hagen's with a brick of cash next to his ear? That was a good one. A few others on Snapchat that we don't have to bring up. Yeah, it's true. We're going to do it.
Starting point is 00:57:06 That's a different. We had a really iconic one that everybody remembers if you saw it. I don't think that one. Yeah, some people were putting that on the text machine. I'm sorry, I'm not putting that one there. There are a few moments that had a photo. They're more about the actual thing. But like cow kissing ligands, that ended up being a photo,
Starting point is 00:57:23 but I think more of the actual video. Benny Snell on his knees after he broke the Yards record at the Citrus Bowl. We have that one up in the bar. that's a really good one Brad Calaparries Err not given tattoo I know the photo I know the look on his face
Starting point is 00:57:40 in that photo That's how we all found out Levis L's down After a touchdown Yep there's a lot of good Lsdowns Levis hurtling Louisville There's one of those two Vince Meroe eating Fritos
Starting point is 00:57:53 Yep I can see that one too I think it's a video But that's a good one I like these. There's a lot of good memories here. Oh, okay. Older people would say this.
Starting point is 00:58:06 Goose Givens in the cowboy hat with Rick Robey and Mike Phillips. That's a famous one that older folks will remember. Good stuff. Let's go to Casey. Go ahead, Casey. Hey, I would think of the 2012 after the championship game, the team photo. They're all messing up cows hair. Yeah, that's a good one.
Starting point is 00:58:27 That's a good one when they're messing up cows hair. I like that. Owen. Hey, you all were talking about previous callers before. The guy that said owie when you stubbed his toe, that's Will in South Carolina, if I remember correctly. Yeah. Whatever happened to him, didn't he go to A&M and he was like an analytics guy or something like that? Owry. Owry. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, just one of those that just kind of disappeared. Yeah. If he's listening, I encourage him to call back.
Starting point is 00:58:58 I'm going to the LSU game in two weeks. I think I'm sitting in the LSU section, which I'm not sure how that happened, but do we have any updates on like checkerboards or what are we doing? They have it. I don't know what it is off the top of my head, but they do have it. By the way,
Starting point is 00:59:19 I appreciate the call. It is now kind of official that will be the Power K game. They have K on the center of the field. I want to talk more about that. We'll save that for the second hour because I do want to talk about what all was that. Lindsay, go ahead, Lindsay. Hey, first time, long time. Who are?
Starting point is 00:59:37 What's up? So I went to Hoops and Hills this year. I have been all three years of Pope and then I went several years with Cal. I always think it's fun. Last year was kind of slow. It wasn't as organized as well, but this year was definitely better. Okay, good. The guys were practicing when we came in,
Starting point is 00:59:58 And so we were doing other things. You kind of couldn't watch a whole lot of what's going on. But it was a lot of, like they did intros of the guys, and all the guys went down the line and told a female that has been inspirational to their lives. Most of them were their moms and heartwarming stories. And then this year was a little different. Based on your armband, you either went to, like, the practice facility, or it was in Memorial.
Starting point is 01:00:24 But you went to the practice facility, or you stayed in the gym, or you went somewhere else. And so my mom and I stayed in the gym. So the guys rotated around the areas. And so there was, I think, four tables at a time until you could get in line to get in line with some of the, you know, get their pictures and signature, that kind of thing. So that was good. They were still kind of long. You weren't able to see all the players.
Starting point is 01:00:48 But like I was. But did you like the guys? Did you like the guys? I did. Yeah. They were all super nice. Most of them I had to ask. I was like, what is your name?
Starting point is 01:00:58 And a lot of them were like, what's your name? I mean, listen, between me and you, I'd have to do the same thing for some of them. Like, don't worry about it. Like, I still have the same issue. And that's going to be probably how it is in this portal air. Well, thank you very much for letting us know. Yeah. Appreciate it.
Starting point is 01:01:16 Yeah, it was a great time and I go every year. All right. Thank you. I have a few contributions real quick. A photo made me laugh. Angels Rock Bar. That was the place. Sully's is where I was with Mr.
Starting point is 01:01:26 Go ahead. It was Angels Rock Bar where I'm at right now, actually. That's right. It was a studio. The photo of the two guys holding hands and jumping with football two years ago. Someone sent me that as an iconic. That was so terrible. That was my random laugh you all heard while she was talking. Someone sent that.
Starting point is 01:01:43 That was good. Davis's Block against Carolina. Definitely. That's a really good one. All right. We'll take a break hour two. Lisa, tell them about our new show. We have a new podcast.
