Starting point is 00:03:14 Welcome into hour two of the first episode of KSR of 2026. Drew Franklin driving the show here with Ryan Lemon beside me after we took a little day off during vacation season. Yeah. But we're back today to recap all the news. A lot of news. Ryan Lemon, almost called you Nick. Rouch, who was to my left. Hey, that's me.
Starting point is 00:03:33 We've had a lot to get to. I want to hear more from the callers on the Clark's Pumpachop phone line, 502-802-8-287. 859. Did I said 502? Yeah. Did I do that earlier, too? I didn't catch it. I think I did because I'm getting the A-Vision Glass.
Starting point is 00:03:47 You've programmed that damn number. See? A-Vision Glass text machine, 502-7, 36-35-80. 35-60. My goodness. What is going on? Let's just start from the top. Welcome in, Hour 2, KSR.
Starting point is 00:04:00 True Franklin here with Ryan Lemon and Nick Roush. It is the first show of 2026. Took yesterday off to celebrate the new year. Watch a lot of football. A lot of football. But now we're recapping the news, things like the Bowley Transfer. We had to wait a little bit too long into the show to talk about the women's basketball win. I apologize again, especially to our caller, who called us on the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line at 859-2-2-8-7.
Starting point is 00:04:23 There we go. Hey. And you can text us on the A-Vision Glass text machine, which is in Ryan Lemon's hand, 5027. 35, 36, 80. Have people been texting you? We haven't been using it. We say it, but we haven't been going to it too. You may ask you a couple of them?
Starting point is 00:04:36 Yeah, fire a couple off. Yeah, yeah. What are it? Do we lose Willie Rodriguez with Bowley leaving since their roommates? I heard a week ago, I don't know, before Christmas that things were looking good for Willie Rodriguez's return. And then I also got that relayed to me again two or three days ago. So it seems like they have him locked up.
Starting point is 00:04:58 And if you watched any of the. the Oregon game, they liked to throw to their tight ends. Kenyon Sadiq. He had a couple. I don't know what the final stats were, but I think on the first drive, the Titans had four receptions of their six pass plays. Did Kenyon Sadiq any time touchdown? He did not. I lost a little money on the draft king's app. The crown was not mine on the Sadiq touchdown, but he was a big part of the offense.
Starting point is 00:05:18 There was one play in particular two where I forget who, it might have been Lewis Reddick, who's, oh, Kenyon Sadiq's right there. Dante Moore's got to throw it. He's wide open for the touchdown, and instead he got sacked. That's all right. I was thinking of you. I had three touchdown scores in the Rose Bowl, so it made up for my city-closs. You want to just talk a little college football playoffs?
Starting point is 00:05:35 Also some pretty big news yesterday. I'd love to talk about it. Let's talk about it. There are four games. That's how the playoffs work. One New Year's Eve. Guys, I got to admit, I'm just going to hand off the first game to you because I was at dinner during this game. And when I got there, not complaining because I had a great time, but I did not have eyeballs on the television.
Starting point is 00:05:52 I thought I might. Turns out I didn't. So Miami, I know they went up 14-0. I was doing some phone checking. Saw the replay of the replay. the big interception return, but you are going to have to kind of take this one for me. How was Miami able to pull off the upset? Well, I do think part of it is in these four games, you saw the importance of good kickers
Starting point is 00:06:11 because Ole Miss doesn't win without their kicker. Ohio State, they have a chance to make a field goal. It was a very makeable field goal right before halftime. That would have made it a seven point game. And ultimately, it felt like they needed those three points down the stretch in a bad way. I know Miami ended up pulling away, but the violence from all four games was what stood out to me. And Miami in particular, that's the, the ACC is, it's a league that,
Starting point is 00:06:43 I mean, Stoves would just put them in a freaking locker every year on Duke's Mayo or whatever bowl game it was, right? Whether you're playing NC State or Virginia Tech, it's like, Andrews. Louisville for a long time. Oh, yeah, like we're just going to beat you up up front because you can't compete with this. Mario Cristobal has got dudes on both sides of the trenches and they got after Ohio State, they made them one-dimensional
Starting point is 00:07:02 and really Julian Sane just didn't do the throw it to number four play enough. Like Jeremiah Smith, just every play, just throw it to him. And they didn't do that enough. They ended up losing. And really the other thing I had from this game is, Ryan, did you see any of Michael Irvin on the sidelines? Was he there? I did see some Michael Irvin there at the game.
Starting point is 00:07:23 They didn't show him enough on the brink. broadcast. Wow, I didn't catch that. Maybe it was Ray Lewis there, too? They didn't show... I think Michael Irvin needs some cornbread hemp. We might need to calm down to some little. I think he's more of an upper than a downer.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Okay, I like when they show McConaughey once and he does the hookum thing. It was too much Michael Irvin. Yeah. In the BTA celebration, like that, that was lame before it ever even started. I mean, I'm not one to tell Michael Irvin what's cool and what's not. Clearly, he's been much cooler for me for me. much longer. But that is, him putting a jersey on a gatorade cooler and just beating it.
Starting point is 00:08:04 While holding his pants up. Very just. Well, he's got to be 60, right? Or close to it? Yeah. I'm going to say he's 60. I mean, he was playing for the Cowboys in the, he was at the end of his career in the late 90s. That was 30 years ago.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Yeah. I'm going 60 on Michael Irvin. But he's a big part of the production. I did catch that much. He was. He's kind of a little less Michael Irvin. with Miami, does he just travel with the team? It's fun.
Starting point is 00:08:26 It's just, there's like a line of like, you could have way too much Michael Irvin. Yeah. And they gave us way too much. Just dial it back a little bit. Like him on the sidelines where he's, his legs, he's on a knee and he's all stressed out. That's funny. The belt out, I don't need the belt out. It's just too much.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Leave your belt on. Ryan, don't tell us about your belt on New Year's Eve. But you mentioned you'd gone to bed early. Were you able to watch this one? I saw it was the fourth quarter. I mean, really, that's why I saw him cut to Michael Irvin between every play over there. In Ohio State, they had a chance, but if Ohio State gets a stop, they get the ball back, they can go down the wind. Instead, Miami was just like, we're going to run it down your throat.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Yeah. Which makes for a fascinating matchup for the next game because they're going to take on Ole Miss. That was a one of the, I like that in the playoff now. We're basically batting 500 on great games versus awful ones. Yeah. Well, in the, you know, Wednesday and Thursday, whatever today is, we had the upset that we just named. We had a shutout. Yep. We had a Texas Tech couldn't do anything.
Starting point is 00:09:34 That was just a whooping. And then we had finally a thriller last night. We'll just go chronologically. Okay. I didn't see Wednesday night. I was out ringing in the New Year. Yes. I was locked in all day yesterday.
Starting point is 00:09:44 Oh, yeah. If I watched a snap or missed a snap in any of those games, I don't know if I did. I was in my chair with my computer locked in, cotton bowl, or excuse me, orange bowl. yesterday afternoon, Will Stein. He let it off right at noon. I'm glad we got to write to our Will Stein game. I did too. More of a defensive performance from Oregon.
Starting point is 00:10:02 They were moving the ball early. As you said, the offense was looking good with the tight ends. They just, a few coaching decisions, leaving some points on the board. Laining's not punching it in. Go for it, guy. And I'm of the belief if you're going to be a go for it guy, just always be a go for it guy.
Starting point is 00:10:15 And they did, I mean, they left a lot of points on the board. But it didn't matter because Texas Tech's offense couldn't do anything. It looked terrible. It made me think. I haven't watched a lot of Texas Tech just being honest. It couldn't get a first down. It couldn't get a first down. Got in the playoff to begin with.
Starting point is 00:10:29 Well, some of it is because Big 12 defenses are terrible and they were able to just run on people. But they've had quarterback injury issues and I think more than Baron Morton was hurt a little bit yesterday. It kind of looked that way. But there was a point where Oregon was plus two in the turnover margin in the first half and it was only up three nothing. That's how good Texas techs defenses.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Like that defense is awesome. They are legit. So shout out to Oregon for finally capitalizing on that. Scorns of points. You know, I selfishly was like, just get me, give me Will Stein here full time. But now, like, and part of this, because I didn't think Oregon was good enough to win it all.
Starting point is 00:11:03 You beat Indiana, you can win it all. I mean, Indiana, they play murder ball. I mean, Signetti looks like a new Sabin, and it's terrifying. Well, do we worry? You know, we're not, I'm not putting a ring on Willstone's finger yet, but let's just say they finished the job.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Motivation is a big part of our brand around here, as we saw last year. Yeah. Motivation was a big word. Uh-huh. I don't know that I want him to already have a ring. You know, he's going to want to go get his own, but I want that hunger. I want him to get close and taste just a little, but not finish it.
Starting point is 00:11:31 So he can come finish it here in Lexington. You know, we need the college game day story. It's the Marty Smith sit down. And Will Stein, he remembers being in that tunnel and watching the confetti fall. And he said, I got to get back here with Kentucky. And they're going to play that feature right before the cats are in the college football playoff. It's going to be awesome. All roads lead to Lexington.
Starting point is 00:11:53 That's just what he's waiting for for his national championship. They're moving on. Yeah. Good look for Oregon. You mentioned Texas Tech. It felt bad they weren't going to help. That front seven was rocking Oregon early. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:05 But it wasn't as bad as Alabama got rocked in the Rose Bowl in the afternoon. I mean, that was my buddy, Adam Walker, could convince me that. Me too. Kail and DeBah and Little Obama were going to get it done, right? Because DeBore wins those games. He's awesome. as in matchups, top-twin matchups. And it could have been a big moment for Indiana.
Starting point is 00:12:29 The other part, too, I watched all of those teams with buys get beat. So my brain, I was a little like, oh, no. Oh, and six. They were 0-and-6 to that point, and then Indiana just, oh, steamrolled him. Bama benched Tass Simpson. So it got so bad they pinched their quarterback. He probably should have slid on that player. Oh, no doubt.
Starting point is 00:12:49 He got hammered. Got fumbled and. shattered his ribs. I was doing a rollover bet where I bet on Miami to cover. I rolled it over to Oregon. And it came time for the third rollover. Now his numbers getting a little bigger
Starting point is 00:13:02 than where we started. I told myself, soon as Oregon ended, go bet Indiana minus seven. Just do it. It's a lot of points, but just do it. But when I got to the app,
Starting point is 00:13:11 it was seven and a half. That half point changed everything for me. But here's the thing, too. Indiana should have been like 12 and a half. And we just, it's the stupid logos, man. I know it. I open.
Starting point is 00:13:21 the app with intentions of hitting Indiana minus 7. I see 7 and half. I took Bama. Luckett, you're a part of that too with your excitement and calling you out. But there were other people on KS. Bores. There's a lot of Bama talk and at the last minute I went Bama. That proved to be wrong and we learned in a hurry
Starting point is 00:13:37 that was wrong. They were never in that game. Not only did they steamroll Alabama their last game they steamrolled Ohio State. I mean they put these two premier programs and like Nick said it's just a logo thing. You can't believe in Indiana because it says Indiana and the other logo says Ohio State and Alabama.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Indiana is like legit, dominating these top programs. That's your old team, Ron. How do you feel? You know, you grew up watching Indiana basketball. I did. I was going to play for point guard for Bob Knight at one point in my life. You wanted to be like Coverdale or who was it? Cheney.
Starting point is 00:14:08 Which one did you want to be? Calvert Cheney? Which one were you dreaming of being? Steve Alford. Steve Offer. There we go. Wasn't sure if it was Tom Coverdale or that Luke guy that went to Iowa. Coverdale.
Starting point is 00:14:18 But, I mean, you know Indiana well from there. Did you ever, ever, ever dream of a day where the football program would be just whooping everyone? No, and that's why it's got to give programs like Kentucky a little bit of hope. Hey, man, if Indiana can do it, loading up on the transfer portal, getting the right people, getting the right coach, getting the right staff, if Indiana can do it, if Vanderbilt can do it, why can't Kentucky do it? We've got a new coach now, bringing a new staff. This is where it's going to start. I think the important part to note, too, about Indiana and Texas Tech is Texas Tech is doing it with oil. money and there are going to be schools out there that just they they they pay a lot of money to get
Starting point is 00:14:56 their players indiana has money but it's kind of like the money that everybody's working with they just have the right guys i mean the offensive line was the roseball MVP yeah right they just gave the whole line yeah like it's like you all you kicked all the ass you get to be the MVP so that's why to you mean to your point ron like there is optimism that you can make it work if you get the right guys. If you make the right evaluations, if you got a hungry coaching staff, which, you know, there's a lot of young guys.
Starting point is 00:15:29 This is their first big opportunity. Got to go prove it. Yep. Prove it in the SEC against a difficult schedule. And then you got just SIG over there with the straight. He finally smiled with like 20 seconds left, but they're up 30 and he looks like he's mad at the world. And I love it.
Starting point is 00:15:44 You can just tell what a good coach he is. Oh, I love that. I also in the nightcap because Kirby Smart has a little bit of that that psychosis to him right the aggression that game was
Starting point is 00:16:04 one of those that you're just like imagine anything being better than football because it was Ole Miss went up 10 points with eight minutes ago and blew that lead I mean Gunter Stockton just kept taking hit after hit, deliver and throws.
Starting point is 00:16:20 It was unreal the resiliency that Georgia showed. But Trinidad Chamberliss, that dude, whatever, if we could bottle up whatever that is that he was on for that stretch right there. He looked like Joe Burrow out there. That sort of, I'm in the zone and nobody can get in my way. He was unreal. That last touchdown throw he had. and Georgia, Georgia, you did everything right.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Ole Miss kind of penalized their way to let you go tie the game, but then you let Trinidad get one more shot deep, and you gave up a 40-hour pass. You trade field goals in the last minute. I thought old miss early, they just kept shooting themselves in the foot. For one, I wasn't big on going for two that early in the game. That's true.
Starting point is 00:17:08 They don't get it. That throws off the math. You're already talking about this is going to cost them the end. Then I don't know if you saw right before halftown, as a Kentucky fan. That looked very familiar. Oh, yeah. Right in bounds.
Starting point is 00:17:18 He cuts in and you're like, what are you doing? And field goal range. Even their coach, I felt bad for him because he can't throw the player in the bus, but at halftime, they're like, how did you not get a field goal off? And he's like, well, the plan was to run out of balance, but their player cuts in and they can't get the fill goal unit on the field. I love that. It was also Sean McDonough who had the Kentucky games when they were just terrible at the end
Starting point is 00:17:39 of halves. And he's like, can you believe? What are they doing? And he's calling out Joe, Judge. and Charlie Wise Jr. The plan there. And it's like, oh, man, really, really putting their feet to the fire. And at that point, it's a two-person.
Starting point is 00:17:52 I think it was nine points. You're already thinking about their two-point conversion they miss. Now they're leaving three on the field. You're already the underdog, Ole Miss, without your head coach, thinking there's no way they can pull this off, leaving four points on the field in the first half. But then... Especially against Georgia.
Starting point is 00:18:06 Right. Georgia's a team. It's been here before. And if you watched them all year, there was some playing with fire there. But you could say, they were playing with fire, they were going to get burnt, or you could say, well, they've proven that they can win close games and that they're comfortable in these situations. And that was kind of bearing out down the stretch.
Starting point is 00:18:24 I thought the one question I had was on third and goal from the five. Do you try to go, do you try to throw it to the end zone, or do you just run the clock because Ellis Hughes out of timeouts? Only leaves them with 30 seconds ago or whatever. They tried to go for the win. I can't, go for the win. Yeah. I think that's the right idea.
Starting point is 00:18:43 50 seconds, all you got to do is tackle them in bounds and you probably win the game. They went one high and it cost him. That guy got beat deep. Trinidad made a perfect throw. He did. He did. It was a perfect throw. And then easy field goal for Carnaro.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Former West Kentucky Hilltopper, by the way. He's awesome. He's so good. He's really good. Although I secretly wanted him to, that would have been the most college kicker thing ever. Right. They talk all broadcasts about how awesome this guy is. just for him to pull it and sit in an overtime.
Starting point is 00:19:16 But there was one second left, Ryan. One second left. So the poor stage crew. Set the stage up, break it down. Bring it out again, get ready to move it off the field again. I think Pete Golden got three Gatorade baths. It just kept dumping Gatorade on them. Ryan, what do you think about Elaine Kiffin getting half a million for Ole Misses win?
Starting point is 00:19:35 I think it's not my money. He's watching Kentucky beat up on Kim Malky and Williams and the LSU women's basketball. Before the night's over, he's got a half million. Counties, he's Benjamin. Just sitting in the stands, Counties Benjamin. Earned, given. You know, before we shift gears, I love the fact that the college football playoffs are final four. There's no Georgia, no Alabama, no Ohio State, no Michigan, no Clemson. These teams that have dominated over the recent years.
Starting point is 00:20:02 It's Miami, Oregon, Indiana, and Ole Miss. I kind of love that. And of all the SEC teams, it's the one that Kiffin left to go win a national championship. That's true. Now they, unlikely still, but of all the teams to be the one left standing. That adds to the chaos we've had. We'll have a little more chaos here on KSR. Oh, yeah, you like these transitions?
Starting point is 00:20:23 This is great. What am I doing there? We have more ball games today, too. More bowl games today? Somebody's getting a mayo bath today, folks. Love the Mayo Bowl. Rick tells me there's people on the phone lines. We'll get to that.
Starting point is 00:20:31 We'll be right back. This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Starting point is 00:25:57 This show's flying, Bob. We've had a lot of news. A lot of news. I haven't forgotten. I still have your top moments from 2025. Well, you know, we still got next segment. You get them ready. Well, you texted me Tuesday night.
Starting point is 00:26:09 You have it ready. We'll just run through yours. First, we need to run through some calls. I've had people waiting. Rick tells me they're still on the line. I don't want to lose them. So let's get to the phone lines. Rick, who's up first?
Starting point is 00:26:18 Got Joe up first. Joe, thanks for calling in. Thanks for holding. What's up? Quickly, a couple of comments. Coach Skinner, good luck as he put together his volleyball team for next year. There's no reason why him in Nebraska and Louisville will go at it head to head. And good luck to Coach Skinner against Bush Baum-Kelly.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Not my favorite coach in the world, but she's pretty damn good. So good luck to Coach Skinner. And secondly, Nick, on recruiting, is Ohio still going to be a priority in West OD, Mississippi? It's the junior colleges in play when it comes to Coach Stein. Thank you. Goodbye. Appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:26:57 Good to hear from you. It is good to hear from Joe. Haven't heard that voice in a while. The junior college thing was, it felt like Stoops was using it to break glass of in case of emergency. They're just not as prevalent now that the transfer portal is around. So I don't anticipate that. Stein has hired a couple of assistants who were previously at Ohio State.
Starting point is 00:27:19 So while I don't think that it's going to be the same volume that we saw with Vince and the Youngstown gang when Mark Stoops was here, I do think they still will be recruiting Ohio. This staff has a lot of connections to Louisiana and Texas, so that will probably happen. But the other part, too, the DMV area, defense coordinator, Jay Bateman, has a lot of connections there. So I think what we're seeing, the term analysts used to get thrown around a lot, Drew, remember that? We had quality control analysts. Well, now they just are assistant position coaches because they can recruit. They just can't go visit places. Well, we got Zoom now. Yeah. Like, coaches don't really hit the road anymore. That's not like a huge thing as it once was. So basically,
Starting point is 00:28:04 the way the staff is being structured, you got a lot more people recruiting than just Vince. Because there for a while, it felt like it was just Vince recruiting. Um, so you you should have players kind of from all over where it's not going to be, you're not going to be so reliant on just one place. And the other part of it, too, you've got to get some guys from Kentucky. Is that 27 class? Kewan Hall from Cal is really good. There's a couple kids at Atherton that are really good.
Starting point is 00:28:28 So the state has some pretty big time players that are coming up in the years right down the road. Who's next, Rick? Super Dave is next. Super Dave. Not just any Dave. Super Dave. What's up? Hey, guys.
Starting point is 00:28:41 How y'all doing? Hey, Nick. just a fellow DeSales grad. I want to say, Happy New Year to everybody. And I wanted to change it a little bit. I know we're in the middle of the football playoffs and the NFL playoffs and all that.
Starting point is 00:28:54 But what do y'all think's going to happen tomorrow at Alabama with the basketball team? Oh, shout out. I appreciate the call. Yeah. Also in my notes, in Alabama preview, because we do return to basketball tomorrow. I think it's been forever since we've seen him play.
Starting point is 00:29:08 The Bellerman game seemed like it was a month ago. Yeah, we're up against our hard break. I appreciate the call. We'll do our Alabama preview with Ryan Lemon's best of 25 in the next break here. Before we go, I did have one news item. I meant to get it in the first hour. There was a shooting near KS Bar yesterday. WKYT is reporting now that two people have died. Three were shot, one's injured. It's the parking lot we share with other buildings. Just want to let everyone know it's unrelated to anything with us or any of our people. We're watching the news like everyone else. That happened yesterday. We're thinking about the two loss and the one that's still injured,
Starting point is 00:29:41 but I want to put that out there. We'll be right back. It's KSR. Here is not Matt Jones. This is Drew Franklin here, filling in for Matt Jones. He will be back tomorrow for the early morning pregame show, Ryan Lemon. 9.30 a.m. for the pregame show in the morning.
Starting point is 00:29:55 People forget. Yeah, people forget. There's basketball still going on. Quite the drought. It's been like 10 days already since the Bellarmine game. Huge road trip tomorrow going to Tuscalo. We're going to talk a little bit more about that game, getting you ready for it here before this show ends. It's flying by.
Starting point is 00:30:10 I think I overproduced. because I'm not long-winded like Matt. I'm talking fast because I had two pots of coffee, and we still haven't even touched half the stuff we were going to get to today. Better to be over-prepared. That's right. Than under-prepared. Let's get right to what really matters because we didn't get to it Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:30:26 Your top moments of 2025. Am I doing Stockton mortgage? Well, I was going to say this edition is presented by Stockton Mortgage. You know, Drew, from our Stockton family to yours. Thank you for trusting us to help you to help you with your home this year. We wish you peace, joy, and comfort. for this holiday season. It's very sweet, wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:30:44 Very sweet. You know, this season, the best gifts don't come with bows. They come with keys. Stockton Mortgage makes homeownership possible with a variety of programs to fit your goals. So learn more at Stockton.com. Just go to Stockton.com. NMLS 8259, Equal Housing Lender, NMLS, Consumer Access.org.
Starting point is 00:31:00 If your New Year's resolution includes a new home, we're ready when you are. Stockton mortgage helps you in 2026. There you go. Yeah. So, yeah, thank you, Stockton. Happy New Year's Stockton. for timing purposes, so I don't mess this up again. We push it off until Monday.
Starting point is 00:31:13 You texted me your top five football and your top five basketball on Tuesday night for the year. Yes. We won't add ours. That'll take forever. So we'll do your top five. And Nick and I, because Nick made a list on the website, he's ready to go. I have my list right now. We'll add honorable mentions that you don't do.
Starting point is 00:31:30 But we'll just get Ryan's top five football moments of 2025. You can either count down from five, start at one. You have the floor. Okay. I'll go backwards. It's five to one. Okay. Media Day with Big Pete.
Starting point is 00:31:43 Ooh, she has Pete. Great, great, great moment for KSR and Pete. It was. That thing went super viral. I think ESPN even shared it on their social media change. Bees of no nation. And it was a lot of fun. Yeah, I got to know him kind of personally.
Starting point is 00:31:55 So that was number five. Okay, I like that one. Number four. Ty Bryant decides to come back. I think that's huge. Wow. I think he's a local kid. Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:04 He's a local kid. I think he had one guy on defense. He had to bring back. It was him. He had one guy. offense you had to bring back, it was Cutter Bowley. All right, so 50%. They're hitting 500. That'll get you in the Hall of Fame. Get to the Hall of Fame.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Number three. Tie two. Great leader. It's good to have that during your transition. Beating Auburn at Auburn. That's my now number three. And then number two, beating Florida at home. Those back-to-back wins, highlights of the season, obviously. And my number one moment, Will Stein introduction. I think that's the easy, easy number one for me. All right, I'll add a few quick wins. We'll call it the five more from Drew.
Starting point is 00:32:35 I'll do four. I'll just add a few. It kind of goes with Auburn. But I really enjoyed Calzada and Garrett getting their money, right? It wasn't the best look for our team and our fan base, but once it had already happened, what can we do about it, but embrace it? And I enjoyed people taking the money to the games, fake money, the guys doing it on the sidelines. So I'll add Calzada versus Garrett, get your money right. I would like to add Vince Merrill wearing his sweatpants inside out at a little football practice. I didn't think that would be number seven.
Starting point is 00:33:08 Whenever I need a good laugh, I just, I look up Vince Merrill sweatpants and there they are. Just what goes inside out, flapping on the wind. Well, I had hello Nick Rous on my list. Can I just combine it? Vince tweeting you during the little game. I didn't like that we're losing. I didn't like that Vince gets to talk as trash. Trust me, if I could write the story myself, we're doing the trash talking.
Starting point is 00:33:29 But he kind of like Calzada. Since it's happening, I did take a little bit of satisfaction of joy in him dunking on you. Vince has always been a content machine. but the last year, it was just one after another. And the, you see the hat I brought today? You like this UK toboggan?
Starting point is 00:33:46 It's good-looking head. Well, there's a story behind it. I actually got it at the Governor's Cup because, you know, the first one I grabbed, it was a Bucky's hat. And people were roasting me because it was red and we're playing Louisville. And so this is the game at Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:34:02 So this would be two Governor's Cups ago. And so I'm sitting on the sidelines and I see Florida's defensive coordinator. now, Brad White. And I'm like, oh, yeah, people are really ragging on me about the hat. And he's like, let me get you a new one. So while he runs off to go get me this fun little hat, I run into a few more people on the sidelines, and I'm chit-chatting. And that's what I learned that Vince was going to Louisville. And I think the part that's tricky about all of this stuff is sometimes if you say something out loud, it won't happen. And that's what we're dealing with right now.
Starting point is 00:34:34 and I initially didn't want to say anything about it at all until the following day people who should not have known were asking me if I knew. I was like, all right, I got to put it out there. Well, you know, KSR, fake news, they're just making stuff up. We just had the timing wrong. They were waiting until later. And then when June came rolling around, I saw Vince the day before it happened. And that was like a wait, so you're being serious this time?
Starting point is 00:35:00 And he was being serious as a heart attack, ended up going the Woolfell. And we could sniff it out. We could sniff out that he was leaving. He was the canary in the Stoop's coal mine. We could feel it coming. But he's just like, well, but there's not a coaching position. How is he going to go over there? And they maneuvered it around to get Vince.
Starting point is 00:35:18 You know what? I don't know what his job is over there now. I don't know what his official. He's the GM. I don't really know what he's doing. But hey, you know what, Vince, you got to flex. You got to wear your carnal red. And you got out before everybody else got told to leave.
Starting point is 00:35:31 So, you know, he was, he made. the right decision. And I had weird timing since I was in Mexico on my 40th birthday and at, you know, 1 a.m. in the morning. We're feeling pretty good at that point. We just start calling random people on our phone where we scroll and you have to call him. I called Vince Merritt at 1 a.m. from Mexico
Starting point is 00:35:48 the night before he left. Had no idea what was going on. I just want to talk to him say hi, part of a little drinking game we were playing. Didn't answer, but little did I know. He probably thought, why is Drew calling me at 1 a.m.? How does he already know? He's trying to get a quote in the middle of the night? No, Vince. I was just with the boy.
Starting point is 00:36:04 at the bar in Cancun and we landed on your name. I'm looking forward to, you know, we got a little more time pass, but there's going to be a fun story time podcast with that, the old regime. Motivated Mark Stubbs at ACC Media Day. There's a, there's a longer story behind all that. That was a very interesting day. We gave Vince more credit there for our top five moments. He went top five basketball?
Starting point is 00:36:28 Let's get top five basketball. All right. The open practice that Pope had for the media and their families. Okay, just a few months ago. That's number five on my. That was a lot of fun. Touch your heartstring. You can expand a little bit more.
Starting point is 00:36:38 You don't have to go that fat. What did you like about it? You took Josiah? I took Josiah, you know, and he is a big, wide-eyed, you know, getting to see these guys up close and personal in a practice setting is just something we're not privy to, and not only did I enjoy it, he really enjoyed it. Got his picture take with Coach Pope, so it's kind of a good father-son moment for me. And at that point, we still had national championship dreams.
Starting point is 00:36:56 Amen, yeah. Some of us still do. I don't want to poopo your dreams if you're still dreaming that, but at the moment, we didn't know anything yet. Number four. the Colin Chandler Dunk. Oh, wow. You're over here preaching to me.
Starting point is 00:37:08 It's one of the few times I've got up and jumped up out of my seat from a play during the game, and it was out in no doubt. So that's number four. So the whole year, I mean, this includes all of SEC play last season. Yes. SEC tournament. Yes. I've got three more.
Starting point is 00:37:23 Well, I believe it, but you got Colin Chandler making the cut. Yes, Colin Chandler duck. This is my top five moments. All right. Number three, beating Illinois in the NCAA tournament to get to the Sweet 16. huge. It's a lot of fun. It was a great one. Number two, Lamont Butler's game against U of L. Coming back injured, 30 points. What do you hit? It wasn't 25. Yeah, that's 2024. That was December.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Oh, yeah. Only SEC games last year. That got me. Well, the number one was Otega's game winner in the SEC tournament. Again, I was there with Josiah. That was just an amazing game to watch firsthand, so that was my number one. How about I'll help you out? We'll throw Lamont out. That was number two. I was number two. How about OA's other buzzer bidder?
Starting point is 00:38:06 At Oklahoma. We'll throw it in. I almost put that in my list. There you go. It's in there now. He scored the final 18 points for Kentucky and 21 of the final 23. That's... At Oklahoma?
Starting point is 00:38:14 Yeah. That's amazing. The other part, too, about his shots, they were basically mirror images of one another, just off balance, throwing it up. Like, how are you doing this, Otega? It was unreal. Unreal. Great moments.
Starting point is 00:38:31 Great moments. Yeah. Oh, go on. You got more? Before you go to the break, I got my top five KSR moments. Yeah, we'll get to those two. I was going to add a few more basketball. The win at Knoxville, which they seem to do a lot lately.
Starting point is 00:38:42 That was pretty improbable. We were short-handed. Trent Noah came in, had a big game. He had a big three. I'm not mistaken, that's when Trent hadn't been playing in a while. He might have gotten in like the Vandy game before that. But that was the closest thing we'd call a Trent Noah breakout. Going there and beating a top 10 team in Knoxville,
Starting point is 00:38:58 something they've done several times. It's where he got the Mountain Mama nickname. That's right. But actually, I think that was the game that was at home. But, you know, it's hard to remember all the wins over Tennessee. I mean, we don't have to talk about the losses. I would like to add the Wheatabix. That was just fun.
Starting point is 00:39:15 That's good. I mean, it wasn't like good to eat, but it was a fun. I wasn't eating it out of my pocket. Indianapolis, we were talking about it's not good to eat. I had it for like every meal. It's like the most Kentucky fan-based story. You know, no one else would care. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:29 But it's like, well, we've got to buy this British cereal. Of course we do. Everybody went out and tried to find it. I was irrationally angry at Weedibix the company for not acknowledging us. I thought about flying over there to headquarters and be like, is anyone awake here? Because whoever's in marketing has the biggest opportunity that will ever fall in their lap. And then like two weeks later, the tournament was over. Florida's our national champion.
Starting point is 00:39:51 And they're like, Amari Williams likes Weidabix. Totally dropped the ball. They totally dropped it. I also would like to give Mark Pope a shout out. he was on the ball. He sent Jack Pilgrim home from the Peach Jam because his wife was going under labor. He said, Jack, leave, go. And Jack made it back with a couple hours of spare before his second kid was born.
Starting point is 00:40:13 So, you know, just totally normal, right? I used that recently, you know, Peach Jam, it's in Augusta. My babies do Masters weekend. And I told Abby, I was like, Jack went to Augusta and drove back and made it. Why don't I go to the Masters? And if it happens to happen, there's already an example here. Jack did it. He's fine. I can do it too.
Starting point is 00:40:33 Yeah. That was a hard no. Very, very hard no. I also have Jackson Robinson at Mississippi State. Oh, yeah. That was good. 27. 27 points.
Starting point is 00:40:43 Kind of one of the last moments, maybe the last moment, we really got to see the best Jackson Robinson before injury took him out for the rest of the year. Just so many stinking injuries. Got cheated from him. Yeah. Ryan, what are your best KSR moments? Because I have a personal favorite. Okay. I'll go in reverse order.
Starting point is 00:40:59 I have like 20 of these. Number five. The donuts show at my house by my pool, where you guys made me eat a bunch of donuts, and I threw them up. That was... Okay. Number four? Great memory. The Taden Lorenzen Show.
Starting point is 00:41:11 We did at Fort Thomas Highlands. Taden joined us. You were just coming back. You just lost your friend, Mani. It was kind of an emotional show. That one meant a lot to me, I think, and I appreciated that. Thank you. Thanks for including a show where I cried on the air.
Starting point is 00:41:22 I appreciate that. The Whiskey Thief Halloween Show. Oh, your costume was incredible. Well, we had a huge crowd. We were all dressed up. It was just kind of a good. little vibe, I think, and it was a lot of fun. The weather was great, so I had to put that on the list.
Starting point is 00:41:35 And we really didn't know that was you in the Didka Cont. We weren't playing that up. All of us were like, is that, I think that's Ryan. When I walked in, Shannon said, oh, Mike Ditka's here. Wait a minute. Who is that? Yeah, that was real. Is that Ryan?
Starting point is 00:41:47 That wasn't exaggerating for a good story. We weren't sure that was you with that slick back here. Okay, my top two. The pregame show we did in Indianapolis before the Tennessee game. Rocking. Remember it was kind of that outdoor venue and it was packed people up and down the sidewalk, people packed inside. That was a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:42:04 The game didn't go very well. Matt's parents were there. Matt's parents were there. I had weedibics in my pocket. Yeah, you're eating pocket weedabics. That and Milwaukee, I'll add, you know, it wasn't quite tin roof, but at that little market we went to, unless that's your next one. No.
Starting point is 00:42:19 Number one was the London tornado show. We did it on a Monday morning after the tornado hit, I think, on a Friday night. Talk about emotions. It was, man. That one kind of hit hard with me. It kind of resonated, and we got to see it firsthand. and we'll meet some of the victims. It was a...
Starting point is 00:42:33 That's where I know our show means something when we did like the Sandy Hook tornado show and the flooding show down in eastern Kentucky. That London tornado show meant a lot to me. Yeah, we had already seen the images at that point. I think Pope and some of the players that already gone and helped. Until we really got down there.
Starting point is 00:42:46 To see it firsthand. Just see how far it extended. Yeah, I won't forget that. Let's take a break before we add ours. I'm already up running and cutting it close here. But Nick and I'll have a few more. We still have that Alabama preview. Yeah, robust Alabama preview.
Starting point is 00:43:00 Transfer Portal update. States. We'll do that now. Levitt entered the portal with a do not contact tag. Do not contact. Miami and Oregon are also in the mix. Who coaches it at Oregon? Well, I'm not heard of him. We'll keep watching the portal. Get to Alabama. We'll be right back for one more segment with Drew Ryan, Nick Rosh, and Rick in Studio.

Starting point is 00:48:06 Mike, I apologize. I'm doing my best here. Let's chat. Well, I'll tell you what, that's all right. I sure appreciate you all. Ryan and Drew and Nick. First of all, let me tell Nick I was one of the fellows Saturday morning at Wagners for breakfast. Really enjoyed talking with you.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Pleasure. Get that out of the way. A couple things. First of all, I watched the women's game and after we won the game, the next best thing was watching those LSU fans with their blank looks on their faces.
Starting point is 00:48:37 Oh, it was beautiful. They were so excited. Absolutely. And the next thing is that about color, color, boy, I really like him, but I want the best player at every position we can get and I want the best quarterback
Starting point is 00:48:51 that we can get. And that's the bottom line as far as I'm concerned. Boom, that's the right attitude. And we appreciate you hanging on and calling in. You ran in him at Wagner's? Yeah, Wagner's pharmacy. Is that a good time? Oh, great time.
Starting point is 00:49:06 Great breakfast. It's like a little old. Stapel kind of thing? Yeah, right next to Churchill Downs. Good breakfast, joy. Everything you do is right next to Churchill Downs. I'm pretty sure you would live in Churchill if they'd let you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:15 Yeah. It sounds about right. But now it's too nice. I can't afford it. Too fancy for our type. And I need a more seedy area. You know, give me, give me good all downtrodden race track.
Starting point is 00:49:26 Yeah, I'm going to add a few seedy moments to Ryan's top five. All right, let's do it. One I have is very recent that I want to make sure it's included in our 2020. It's probably the best radio show that's ever been done. Oh, yeah. Was it just maybe in this room a month ago?
Starting point is 00:49:40 Oh, the fire alarm show. Could there have been fire alarms going off? I know Matt hated it. It was so great. For those that couldn't see us, I was over here with a blank eating grin. I can't say it on radio.
Starting point is 00:49:49 But I just need people to know that when KSR is an utter chaos, I have this smile that you cannot wipe off my face, and it was on my face that day as Matt was yelling at the fire alarm right. Well, he wanted to get out of the studio and go do it somewhere. You and I are both like, no, this is radio gold. I wanted more firearms. It also had Will Stein's mom. It was Will Stein Day.
Starting point is 00:50:09 That's true. Being the correspondent at Sissy Cakes. That's right. So I had to throw that one in. It's also when Matt, you can tell the tone he has when he's going to start one of those monologues. And he's getting ready to do it for Stein. that's when the alarms start and you can just feel it you can feel it it takes me back to the old Eric C. Con show from a long time ago.
Starting point is 00:50:30 Best ones. Just built and built and built. You can't, you can't manufacture that emotion. It's great. I was, I was cackling driving back from the introductory press conference to listen to that podcast. So was it was Amy and Matt show? Was that this past year also? We got to get you on 2025.
Starting point is 00:50:47 That was 2024. Good on that list. A few more quick ones. You weren't there. our trip to Buffalo and on those covers zero. That was Billy's first road trip. We had the suitcase, the vegetables, me keeping him and Mario from fighting. The shoes, too.
Starting point is 00:51:00 The shoes? Yeah, yeah. Sharp dress man. Max left this year. Remember he came to Kentucky branded. I wanted to include that. I had a little tear giving Max hugs on the air. I enjoyed my Drew Palooza, a little selfish, a little self-centered there.
Starting point is 00:51:12 You all left me. You killed it that week. You gave me lemons and I made lemonade, thanks to all the guests on that. And I also want to include when we had Archie Goodwin on. And he talked about how much that meant to get to talk to the fans. It was supposed to be previewing TBT and then turned into a big moment for Archie, so I want to include those. I'm glad you didn't get punched after that TBT moment because it happens sometimes
Starting point is 00:51:32 when you mix it up with the folks down on 64. They don't punch very hard, though. Very weak-minded individuals. Yeah, that one week we had Archie Goodwin and Khalil Whitney. They both kind of got to open up. And you could tell, man, they were some repressed feelings. They were getting us talk about for the first time ever. And our house shows.
Starting point is 00:51:49 We went to Shannon's house. Yes. We went to the arcade in northern Kentucky. Oh, that was a good show. The zoo where I left my jetty with some zebras. I wanted to include those. Now we have a minute left. Let's do our Alabama pregame.
Starting point is 00:52:00 Okay. Kentucky plays Alabama tomorrow. Noon. ESPN. KSR pregame show. Matt Jones is back 930. We'll be right here getting you ready for that game. Alabama, how quickly can we do this? They shoot lots of shots.
Starting point is 00:52:11 Lots of shots. They're third offense in America. Third best offense, third in threes. But this year they block shots. They're third in the country and blocks shots. Look out for that. They'll get it going to both. Both ends. Three losses this year, but they were top five teams. They lost Purdue,
Starting point is 00:52:24 Gonzaga, Arizona. They beat Clemson, beat Illinois, St. John's. SEC's leading score of the Baron Phylon. Almost went pro last year. He's back getting 21 points in game. 55% from three, or 55% from the field, 42% from three. It's a Nate Odes team. We know exactly what it is. They beat us three times in a row. Never happened before. 96 points in each one of those games. Listen, the women showed us how it's done. Let's go get a win on the road to start SEC play. Ryan, thank you. Nick Rouse, thank you.
