Starting point is 00:03:26 This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Friday, October the 25th. I am Matt Jones here. Live at 46 Solutions in Lexington Green, right off Nicholsville Road. You can give us a shout to the Clark's Pubit Shop phone line, 859-2-80-2287.
Starting point is 00:03:50 A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-7-4-254. This edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. You call T.J. He'll make them pay. We are at 46 Solutions, a Lexington Technology Company that does IT support, cybersecurity, and audio video. This is where you get your, like if you got a man cave or a woman cave and you want TVs and you want sound and you want all that, you go here. They've done that for you, Ryan, and this is the place to go out here in Lexington Green,
Starting point is 00:04:18 46 Solutions, and Mitch ain't one. How are you doing? Yeah, this showroom here, I like to say, is like the Walt Disney rule of audio and visual setups. You say you like that often? Oh, I like it on the commercials I cut for them. All right, I got you. On the commercials. I just thought the way you said it, you say it like wherever you go.
Starting point is 00:04:38 You don't do that. I did casually say that to a couple of friends here. I said, thanks for coming to Walt Disney World. Well, that seems like they enjoyed that. Drew, it's nice to see you this morning. I always love this remote as well. Yes, we have a big weekend. Cats in Auburn tomorrow night.
Starting point is 00:04:54 745, a big game. My guys at 46 Solutions, you can't talk in the back, all right? If we're going to do this show, y'all go outside if you're going to talk. Not even a minute that he's scolded. I'm going to our sponsor. I'm glad to be here, but you can't be talking during the show. Shannon, big game, Kentucky and Auburn, have to make sure we get, keep the people and football into the fans, the fan base into it and get a victory. I feel good about the game tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:05:21 I said this last week before Florida, but I just feel like, you know, Auburn's struggling. They're two and five. This feels like a game that you have to get, especially if you want to be bowl eligible. Well, we're struggling. We're three and four. It feels like going in the wrong direction. I mean, this is the kind of game, you lose this game. I think you lose the fan base just in terms of for the rest of the year.
Starting point is 00:05:39 I think everybody's already so locked in to basketball. The fan base will just stop paying attention. I don't even want to think about what the crowd will be like for Murray State if we lose this game. To me, this is a massive game just in keeping people engaged honestly. Yeah, I think a lot of our football fan base kind of teetering on that right now. So if you lose this one, that means you're 0 and 4 in SEC home games. that's not acceptable. I think this program has elevated itself
Starting point is 00:06:06 where you should not go winless in your four SEC games this year when three of the four were very, very winnable. Two and nine in the last 11 SEC home games, which is a really, really bad setting. So we'll talk about that game. Also, you know, basketball, everywhere I go, everybody wants to talk about the, you know, you win by 71 points, that'll end up happening.
Starting point is 00:06:29 But I did want to bring up one thing. we were talking with Mario before Mario was angry this morning Shannon I haven't seen Mario I haven't see Mario be this angry in a long time he was angry and it was nice he was angry because he was taking up for us you know we put out that video yesterday of us really me trying to pick out the 15 players that used to play at Kentucky that are now playing somewhere else so we tried to put out that we put out that video and it was us you know
Starting point is 00:07:00 Not knowing some of them. Me being surprised that some of these people were still in school. Mario was really angry at the people online that kept calling me personally a casual. That's a big insult these days. That just means like your life isn't obsessed with Jordan Birx? It's along the same line of being mid. Okay. And then not being a ball noer, which I don't really know basketball.
Starting point is 00:07:24 So I'm here to say, you're right about both of those. I don't know anything about sports, but that's not why we're standing here, right? We're standing here because we're entertaining. But you weren't supposed to laugh at that like it wasn't true. You're sitting in this chair, sweater vest. I know that you at least have to be entertained. You left your job to come here today. But it did occur to me when I saw those comments.
Starting point is 00:07:56 A, it was nice of Mario to be. angry about it. And if you make Mario mad, you've got to be pretty... It comes Mario. Yes. It does. I like that. It becomes Mario. You also... They're right about one thing, which I was thinking about. The two people I couldn't name were Jordan Berks and Joey Hart, both of which were on the team last year.
Starting point is 00:08:16 And that occurred to be, Ryan. Last year was probably the most disconnected I've felt from UK basketball personally in a long time. since like 08, 09, sort of the last couple tubby years. I don't know that I paid a, that was Billy. 06, 07, I was doing the blog, but honestly, the team, you know, that was, I loved Wu, but it was just hard to get into. I remember Jordan Birx and Joey Hart, but I realized I really didn't know as much about
Starting point is 00:08:49 him. And while I loved Reed, Rob and Antonio, the team as a whole was so frustrating to me and the situation was so frustrating that I was probably the most distant. disconnected just as a fan that I've been in a while. And I think that whole thing sort of showcased me that. Like, yes, I remember Jordan Berks and Joey Hart were on the team, but no, I didn't really remember anything about them. And that's, like their faces?
Starting point is 00:09:13 Yeah, for instance, like their faces, that does sort of show. I really had become disconnected. Do you think other folks have been like that? I think a lot of folks been like that, myself included. I would even start, my disconnection started probably after COVID. It seemed like every year after that, I got a little more disconnected from this team and this program every year because of what was happening between us and the coach. You know, we have been disconnected. He kind of pushed us away from the program.
Starting point is 00:09:37 I told you that lady at Memorial Coliseum the other night said, hey, glad to see you guys back around here again. I thought that was a pretty good, you know. That reminded you that you don't go a lot. Well, we weren't necessarily welcome, I think, around there. And to be fair, I mean, since COVID, what's really been worth remembering? Not a lot. So it's kind of, I mean, you look at the 15 or 15 guys. we mentioned, I mean, like, let's just talk what they did here.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Okay, so Lance Ware, I think he was kind of beloved here. How about Lance? We got into that. Yeah, I mean, there was, I did really like Lance. I felt like he put his energy into the team. I felt like there was a lot about Lance that I really like. But you look at the other guys on that list. Z had that amazing night.
Starting point is 00:10:21 I'm partial to DJ Wagner. I want him to succeed. But you go back to some of those other guys. I mean, Bryce Hopkins didn't. really play a whole lot here. It is, you know, Cameron Fletcher, all those guys. I don't know. I feel like that that was a group of Kentucky players sort of destined to be forgotten. Like, do you think in five years, I worry that a dude who actually was good here, Trey Mitchell, do you think people like don't mention his name? Olivier Saar was in the NBA, and I don't know that people
Starting point is 00:10:50 ever even think about him being here. I just, it's nice to kind of, I don't want to say, erase that error, but that's an era where I just don't think people will remember a lot of those guys like we do dudes from the past. We started naming guys, and you mentioned a couple of Damien Collins was on that list yesterday. If I didn't see his LSU jersey, I don't know if I would be able to pick out who that was. Some of those guys matured. Collins looks huge. Yeah, Collins looks bigger. Devin Askew kind of looks like a different person. Some of those guys Dante Allen shaved his head. Yeah, they just gone through a period of life where they look different. But nevertheless, it'll be interesting to see.
Starting point is 00:11:27 there are, I think, gaps in UK fans' knowledge where they don't necessarily, there aren't a lot of memories that stick out. Again, like, think of Tubby's last two years. And I love Tubby. But what do you remember those last two years of Tubby teams? Who do you remember playing for those teams? I mean, I can give you a few, Bobby Perry, Woo, Shray Thomas. But I don't think people remember most of those.
Starting point is 00:11:57 those guys, right? And I do, I do wonder if these last few years are going to be like that. Like, if we were to pull up that 0-6-07 roster, how many of the guys do you think you would remember? And you were covering the team, man. Well, I would know all of them just because I was like go for it. Oh, you mean, you're on top of my head? Yeah, if you're so smart. I thought you were, I thought you were going to show me a picture and say who you just, no, wait, man, I think he said, what did he say, Shannon? He said he knew the roster. He said he knew all of the roster. Come on. Let's see what you got.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Okay, that's what you said. You didn't say you were very confident. Are you a casual? Are you men? Can you name this roster? If I see a picture, I guarantee I can name them one of them. I'm not giving you the picture. All right, give me some names.
Starting point is 00:12:40 I gave you a couple of them. I gave you Bobby Perry, Wukosh Orbsuit, and Sharray Thomas. Now, name me the other players from the 0-6-0-17-Tubbies last year. Okay, I'm not sure if it was the 0-6 team or the 0-17, but I like Shigari-A-Lean. Shigari-Lean, not on that team. All right. O-for-1. Jared Carter?
Starting point is 00:12:58 Jared Carter on the team. One. Okay, I'm trying to go to the big guys. Bernard Cote. Bernard Cote, no. No. Robbie Moss. Robbie Moss, his last year, gone.
Starting point is 00:13:12 Wasn't there either. He's one for four. Oh, Dwight Perry. Dwight Perry that year was on the team. Now, that's a good pick. I'll say that's a good pick to get Dwight Perry. Most remembered for Chet for accidentally starting an NCAA tournament game.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Michael Porter. Wow! You remember, now I didn't think you'd get that one. Michael Porter, okay, you're doing good. You got about four or five more. Gosh, I'm trying to think who in the heck the cards were. Big names. Yeah, you're missing some easy ones.
Starting point is 00:13:48 All right, I'm giving up. I can't have dead space. Ramele Bradley. Oh, yeah, Ramele and Joe. Joe Crawford. Yeah, Ramele and Joe. Randolph Morris? Yeah. You've somehow. named the obscure players and forgot the good ones.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Jody Meeks. Oh, Jody Meeks would have been a good one. Derek Jasper? Yeah, I forgot about Derek Jasper. You started at the 12th seat. Yeah, you literally named Jordan Birx and Joey Hart and forgot Reed Shepard. And Rob Dillingham. And then the final one you missed from Anchorage, Alaska, Ramon Harris.
Starting point is 00:14:16 Raised Ramon Harris. So. Perry Stevenson wasn't on that team? This seems to, yes, he was. Perry Stevenson. What about Mark Krebs? Did he, was he that? Mark Krebs, not on yet.
Starting point is 00:14:26 The last one. the final sort of end of the bench guy on that team, the Curry Flurry. Mark Curry was on that. Wrong Mark. Mark Curry was on that team. So anyway, I do wonder if the last couple of Cal teams in 15 years when the younger people are doing some version of this show in space, if they will be able to remember some of these guys that we had this year. We already admit we forget Isaiah Jackson played on this team.
Starting point is 00:14:51 I know he's playing well, but Cason Wallace is another guy that I kind of forget was here, you know? Yeah, Isaiah Jackson is the NBA player that will be the most obscure. I mean, he has been, in 50 years, when you're talking about first round NBA draft picks, Isaiah Jackson will be the hardest one for people to remember. And I loved him that year. I wanted to play more, but it was the COVID year. They weren't good. Everything was just so weird.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Some people were checked out dealing with things, and he had a decent season, gets picked, and goes to the Pacers, and we forget about him. Mario, don't put that performance online. People will be mad at Ryan. You'll be mad again. No, look, he's mad at him. Look, come here. Come here.
Starting point is 00:15:28 I want you to get on, because you always come off as a nice guy. One of you all give him. Well, you got go over there. Go over that side so that it's easier to get to. All right. You never get mad. Like, you never get mad. Why were you mad?
Starting point is 00:15:41 I just feel like it got misunderstood. Yes. That was the main thing. I mean, there was a little bit of it that was playing up for entertainment. Yeah, that's part of the show is the entertainment aspect of it. But I felt like, you know, people use social media to put negative stuff out. And that's not the way I look at it. What do you think social media should be for?
Starting point is 00:15:59 Because you're kind of a positive guy. Positiveity, informative. You want to inform people and then entertain people. Well, if you make Mario mad, Drew, then you've made people mad. So I appreciated him taking up for us. Yeah, that was a bit. See, that's a ride statement. If you make Mario mad, then you make people mad.
Starting point is 00:16:15 But I wonder, it was nice to come in here and you were, you were like ready to fight somebody. So I appreciate that. No problem. All right, there you go. Give Mario a round of applause there. 859-280-2287. Do you all feel like we win Saturday night? Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:16:34 I don't feel great, Bob. Yes, yes, I do. You know, my brother's wife and his daughter both went to Auburn. So I hear a- brother's wife and his daughter. Okay. Yeah. So I hear a lot of the Auburn talk.
Starting point is 00:16:47 Sister-in-law. I think they are as disappointed in Auburn as we are in Kentucky. So I think it's a huge game for both teams. I mean, they've lost five games. already. They're struggling. So I think it could be a rock fight with both teams knowing they have to win this game. I just wonder if Auburn fans feel as confident as I would about playing Auburn for Auburn playing Kentucky. Does Auburn think that they can beat Kentucky? I think they're down too. I mean, I think both these are the two most frustrated fan bases
Starting point is 00:17:18 in the SEC right now. I mean, Alabama's are a little frustrated, but that's a little bit of like you're a little spoiled at Alabama. But these are probably the two most frustrated fan bases. And the loser of this game is going to be the most frustrated fan base in the SEC. So my hope is we're able to get the victory. 859-280-2287. We are here at 46 Solutions. KSR, with our mid-level basketball knowledge, we'll be back.
Starting point is 00:17:46 This is, KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the Internet long. It lost its mind. Starting point is 00:18:04 and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with So many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
Starting point is 00:19:01 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Starting point is 00:19:18 Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
Starting point is 00:19:51 And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
Starting point is 00:20:12 he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, We dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone. It's Ryder Strong and Will Fidel from PodMeets World. And now the Pod Meets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV,
Starting point is 00:20:59 who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. So yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some Survivor.
Starting point is 00:21:18 I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Yeah. Just because we... Yeah. We'll be recapping the big conclusion of the 50th season from the final attempts at gameplay to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of ha who, ha, who, ha, who.
Starting point is 00:21:33 Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune into Pod Meets Twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to PodMeets Twirled on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff, like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:21:56 This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here. at 46 Solutions. You know, 46 Solutions has an audio video showroom. You come out here. They'll help you tell you how to remodel your home with the top-level technology. That's right here at 46 Solutions.
Starting point is 00:22:39 One person writes, Matt, the reason I like your all's show is I feel like it's real. I could totally see you telling those people to be quiet, and that's exactly Matt Jones. He does it on airplanes. I said it with love. I was completely with love. I mean, they're wonderful people. I just, you know, you can't talk. It's a show.
Starting point is 00:22:58 I noticed we've done several shows here, one of our favorite spots, but I notice there's an outside area this year. I don't think that's normally there. I think that might be for some conversations. It's like when they have the room at the airport where you can just throw your kids in there and they go screaming. I'm for that. Let them have that room, and then everybody else doesn't have to do it with.
Starting point is 00:23:14 It was the Lexington Rotary Club met here at 8 o'clock this morning, and Crystal moved them outside before we started doing our show. The Rotary Club. Remind me what Rotary Clubs do. Is that like... I think you just go to the website. Rotary.com. I'll tell you what they're due.
Starting point is 00:23:30 I just know every town has a rotary club. I just don't always know what they do. I've always wondered what that is too. I mean, I still love our rotary auction. Did you all have those in your town? No, I watch... I bid on things in the Hopkinsville one every year. Maybe that's the one I was watching.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Yeah, Hopkinsville is on TV. You can stream it. That's what it was. Thank you to 46 Solutions for giving us this megaphone like this. I like that. You can take home. They're giving it to all the people here. And then I'm going to give UK tickets away.
Starting point is 00:23:55 And they also gave us this beautiful cut out of Ryan Lemon, for those of you who didn't see it. It's beautiful. That's a little embarrassing. You had a body double, though. Why didn't you use your own body? I thought that was his body. It looks like my body. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:24:11 One person writes, Matt, my buddies and I play the can you name the roster game all the time. It's harder than you think. Like, take the 2012 and 2015 rosters. Can you name those? All right, well, let's do this real quick. 2012, I think I can do a pretty good job. All right. You get, start with the starters.
Starting point is 00:24:31 You get Teague, Lamb, Gilchrist, Davis, Terrence Jones, Darius Miller, Kyle Wilcher, Eloy Vargas. Because I always would type his name wrong, W. Loy, Vargas. Remember, I would always get too excited, and I would just type W-L-O-I with exclamation points. Jared Poulson was on that team. 20 Beckham was on that team good call Brian Long did he appreciate being here was on that team Sam Malone was a victory cigar Todd Lander Todd Lanter was on that team am I missing anybody you already said Dron I'll just say it again Dron Lamb just so I can
Starting point is 00:25:13 say his name here let me just I'm I just pulled it up oh we forgot one anybody remember the one we forgot huh Stacy Poole Jr. Stacey Poole Jr. Stacey Poole Actually, we forgot two. Good call on Stacey Pool. Who's the other one? Anybody? Actually, two we forgot. John Hood.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Oh, sorry, John. For a Kentuckian. Madisonville that everyone in here forgot. And then I don't think anybody would know because he didn't play, but he was actually on the roster. Does anybody know who was on the roster but was sitting out? The point guard in the next year. Ryan Harrow.
Starting point is 00:25:50 Yeah, Ryan Harrow. Okay. 2015. Let's just do the platoons. Harrison Twins, Tray Liles, Willie and Carl, Ulyss, Buker, Poitris, Marcus Lee, Dekari Johnson, Derek Willis, and Dominique Hawkins. And then I don't, it's hard for me to remember which walk-on was on during that time. Lanter, I think, was, I think Lanter was 12 to 15. Todd Sam and Brian were still there, I believe.
Starting point is 00:26:21 So they got, boy, you have got. Those guys got a run, didn't they? They got 12, 13, 14, and 15. That's a heck of a run for those walk-ons. Anybody else? I think you nailed both rosters really well. Yeah, but I don't remember Joey Hart. I'm sorry about that.
Starting point is 00:26:35 But, you know, I think we looked it up one time. John Hood played with more future NBA guys than anybody. That's right. John Hood was 10 to 13. So John Hood played with all of those guys. Yep. Got a heck of a run. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:26:49 By the way, the UK guys started in the NBA. you know, not the best. I mean, Rob and Antonio didn't get in. Reed, I watched Reed play. You know, they got so many guys. They got like 12 guys. So I think it's going to be hard for him to get maybe as many minutes as many minutes as we hoped. But, you know, some of the other guys are in great spots. And Shay Alexander drew, maybe one of the favorites for the MVP. Well, last night in the draft Kings, what do you call it with the big million dollar bonus? I rolled the dice with Julius Randall. Had it until the very end. I missed it by like. a point. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:27:23 He had a big game, yeah. With Luca and Shea and Yokich and all those guys playing, I didn't think many people would get Randall, and I was in the mix until the very end. He had a great game in Minnesota. So one of the things I do like to do on this show is use collective intelligence. I have a problem, so I subscribe Shannon to the NBA League Pass so that I can watch our guys all over.
Starting point is 00:27:43 Right. But I don't know what it is about being in Lexington. But I don't know if you all realize this. In Lexington and Louisville, they have three different teams that are our official. home market. Oh. So, I know where you're going with this. So here's the problem.
Starting point is 00:27:58 I subscribe to it, and then I have YouTube TV. The Pacers, Cleveland, and the Grizzlies are all considered our home market. Now, I don't consider any of those our home market. No. But all three are our home market. And I cannot physically figure out how to watch those games. Now, I don't care about those teams, but, Brian. I can't figure out how to get those three because you're in the thing.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Now, if you have DirecTV, you have those channels, but let's say you don't, you don't have those channels. How do we have three home markets? It annoys me, because especially Memphis, Ryan, I'd actually like to see Plet. I guess is the other option just go to KS. Bar because we can get them there? If we can't get them at home? I mean, we're not open at midnight on a Tuesday. Like, there are times I want to watch them play, and you just can't. You can come to my house.
Starting point is 00:28:54 I get all the games. We won't talk about how. You illegally streamed. The FBI shows up. It's just a little gray area. The first year I bought League Pass, and it's been corrected. They had the Titans as my home market, and we couldn't get it in Lexington. This is the only reason I gave you $250.
Starting point is 00:29:09 I mean, I get the Reds being the home market. But who in the world thinks of Cleveland as our home market? If you don't have a team in your state, it should not be blacked out. I get the Reds. I understand that. But everybody else, to me, it doesn't make any sense. Who's up next? Ross.
Starting point is 00:29:25 Ross, go ahead, Ross. The, I don't think the Ansley-Almanor shooting is a fluke. I feel like yesterday. Take us off speakerphone, first of all, so I don't sound like you're in your bathroom. All right. Now, go ahead. That's my favorite part. Let me try to figure out.
Starting point is 00:29:52 All right. I wasn't on speakerphone. All right. Sounds better. Go ahead. Okay. All right. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:29:59 So the. the Almanor, it sounded like y'all were surprised that he could shoot. So I did a little bit of digging, which I think might be the first time that's ever been done on him. He was number one in shooting in his conference last year, and three-point, like three-pointers made, which was surprising. Well, mine just comes from having gone to two things. The blue white and then the open day, and then we had another practice we went to. He just wasn't as good as shooters arrest him. But if he shoots like he did last night or two nights ago, he's going to be great,
Starting point is 00:30:37 and he will see minutes. The times I'd seen before was not. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back to Tegi Sports Radio. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:30:55 Text Machine is 772-744-5-254. One person corrects me that Antonio Reeves played last night. He didn't play in the first game. He played last night 0 for three, so hopefully he'll make a couple shots going soon. And then we missed E.J. Floreau. How did we forget our guy, E.J., he's one of my favorite people. How did we forget him? We owe him an apology.
Starting point is 00:31:17 We owe E.J. and apology. Love E.J. Remember when he dunked on Julius, I think it was Julius Randall in the blue-white game? Yeah, that's right. And he was a great dunker. He was like the kid, Kareem Watkins, who could get up the other, you know, a couple years ago and won the dunk contest. You were gone, but E.J. was around a lot for the La Familiar stuff this summer. It's really good to see him and some of those guys back supporting their team.
Starting point is 00:31:37 He was good guys. He was his dad that built this track program where we ended up with all these people in the Olympics and all that. That was E.J's dad that was able to do that. One person writes, Matt, I really love the show, but. Uh-oh. Here we go. Here we go. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:31:54 I really love the show, but I do think the critics have some value in what they're saying. You don't know enough specifics about football or basketball for this platform. Don't you think that you should give the platform to people who do know basketball and do no football? Just hand the show over to somebody else. What a suggestion? Here you go. I got mouse feed. Well, first of all, I think most of the people that always claim,
Starting point is 00:32:22 we don't know the specifics about sports, they think they know a lot more than they do as well. None of us really know sports. All you got to do is spend some time with football coaches when they break. Watch Peyton and Eli and Belichick talk about football and then tell me how much we know about it. Like it's a whole other thing. But secondly, the last sentence there, Drew, I think, is very telling.
Starting point is 00:32:44 You should give this platform to somebody else. My argument would be someone else should go earn a platform to be able to do. it. If you want to be given a platform, I mean, we weren't given a platform. We just went and took it. So I think that's probably what someone else should do. Believe me, we know what we don't know. Which is everything. Which is everything. If you listen to me with Ian Fitzsimmons last night, he asked me at the beginning. He was like, so what do you think about Navy's quarterback? And I went, oh, he's a good guy. Like the way he serves. So we represent the common panel. If you want somebody to break down the X's and the O's, they Nobody wants to hear that. He was like, and I think he realized I didn't know, and he's like, you know, Blake Horvath.
Starting point is 00:33:27 I was like, oh, yeah. Blake, good quarterback. And he also has to do his military service. And at the same time, that's really hard. How many times have you had to fake your way through some of those interviews? I was listening to the other day they brought you on and talked about the ACC with you. I was listening to that conversation. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Yeah. The answer is 90% of them. There you go. See? Yeah. I mean, they brought, we had to interview Damien Woody last night. And, uh, strong thoughts about Damian Woody. Well, no, no.
Starting point is 00:33:55 I mean, well, he's a, he's like a commentator. So that's, you just talk whatever. But in the pre-show meeting, the guy goes, so, uh, what do you want to ask Damian Woody? And I was like, well, what does Damian Woody want me to ask? I don't have a whole lot of strong opinions, Ryan, about what Damian Woody says. I look at it as we all learn together. We're learning as a group.
Starting point is 00:34:15 It's an educational show that we're all just kind of learning about things of cool along. You learn about what's happening in the news during here. That's my favorite. part about the show. Brian learns about everything that's going. I mean, he thought our guard was Robbie Abreu the whole summer. So I will, I think we do know newswise, we're going to out two running backs. We are out two running backs, Chip Trey and him and Demi Sumo Carme, all both out for the game.
Starting point is 00:34:41 So Jamirian Wilcox is going to get his first start. There's a really good question of who's behind him? Who's playing? Patterson. That's a pro. Patterson's hurt too. Tom Leeds said this morning, though, Patterson may play. All right, so we're going to have two true freshmen out there playing running back.
Starting point is 00:34:58 Let me tell you how surprising this news is at least to some. On Draft Kings, two days ago, you could have bet Jamiriam Wilcox to plus $2,800 to score two touchdowns. A guy sent me, he bet it. I don't know if he had inside information or whatever. Now, Draft Kings has offered him to cash out. his $25 bet for $150 and the game hasn't even started yet. Wow. They literally have been, they've already offered him six times his bet to cash out,
Starting point is 00:35:32 and they haven't even had the game yet. How big a deal is it that Kentucky Drew is out there two top running backs? I'm pretty worried. First of all, good for that guy. The moment I saw the injury list, I went to draft king, it was already gone, just missed it. Tried to get some too. But yeah, I'm worried about it.
Starting point is 00:35:46 Wilcox duct tape his shoes to his legs, take it up to the knee. I mean, he's going to have to have a big game. I'm excited to see what he can do. He's been great when he gets an opportunity. He has a good average. But a whole game against Auburn, which has a good run defense. I'm worried they're going to throw it a little bit, and as we've seen, that hadn't gone well either. Do you think they play Gavin some?
Starting point is 00:36:06 Wimson maybe as kind of a pseudo running back? Yeah, that's I was going to say. He may get a lot of touches just for that reason, just to get some fresh legs back there. If Wilcox and Patterson can't carry a lot of the load, Wimson, especially to get close to the end zone, he's probably going to get a lot of carries. It's going to be, I mean, Auburn's the kind of team you can run it on. So this is like especially a game where, boy, you'd love to have some of those guys. Are you surprised, Drew, that they're both out?
Starting point is 00:36:33 I'm a little surprised, especially, you know, they both were playing at the end of the last game. It's a little surprising to me. They're out. Especially both. I mean, that's a big hit. In Auburn, you look at their record. I think Stoop said this earlier in the week, and he got mocked a little bit, but it's true.
Starting point is 00:36:49 Auburn's a good football team that just hasn't won. They've had a fourth quarter lead in two, maybe three games. Three of their losses are by Georgia pretty well. Three of their losses are by one possession. We've got to look in the mirror a little bit. Kentucky gets killed at Florida, gets killed by South Carolina. Auburn's really been in most of their games. They've just had too many turnovers and haven't been able to punch it in in the red zone.
Starting point is 00:37:09 They haven't been getting the points. It's kind of similar with Kentucky's offense. They can move it. They're just not scoring. Yeah. A couple open lines, 859-2-80-22-87. I'm going to give you all something that when I say this, this ain't going to be available even in a day or two.
Starting point is 00:37:23 This is a little secret. Draft Kings is going to make a special bet that comes out Monday, but the odds are almost certainly going to be worse at this time. Kentucky basketball is right now on Draft Kings, plus 3,000, so 30 to 1, to win the SEC, not even to win the national championship in basketball, the SEC, 30 to 1. Now, I'm not saying we're going to win the SEC, but you don't think if we did this 30 times, we wouldn't win it once? 30 to 1? I already bet it. It says under review because
Starting point is 00:38:02 it pays out so much. It hasn't even been accepted yet. Oh, it hasn't even been. I've already bet it. I mean, I've never seen acts required bet under review. Bet under review. The odds are so long. Like, they can't believe you're actually doing it. Right there. I already bet it. wrong with this guy. Plus 3,000, I'm in. Plus 3,000 for this Kentucky team. I mean, Alabama's the best team in the SEC. Okay, we play them twice, though. We have a similar style to them. But Ryan, let's take Alabama out of the mix for just a second. Is it crazy to think we can be better than the other teams in the SEC? I mean, preseason, sure, Auburn, Tennessee, maybe I put them ahead. But is it insane to think we could be better than those other teams? Not insane at all.
Starting point is 00:38:45 and I don't know how good we saw they can shoot the basketball, playing modern basketball, playing the way they play. Is it still 30 to 1? Still 30 to 1. You're under review and he's not. Maybe mine with it. I bet a few, maybe it's gone through since. But I sent it to a lot of people last night and said, this is going to be 6 to 1 after we beat Duke in a week. Let me tell you something.
Starting point is 00:39:03 I'm serious. It's 30 to 1. On Monday, they're making it the KSR bet, and then it's going to go down because a lot of people bet. 30 to 1, right? I'm not saying, I'm just saying, I feel like 30 to 1. to one. You will never, ever, ever get Kentucky basketball 30 to one to win the SEC. Ever. Probably never again. I bet it's never been offered that ever in the past. Probably true. And I think this team is way too good to get 30 to 1 to win. We're 35 to 1 to win the
Starting point is 00:39:35 national championship. How are we 30 to 1 to win the SEC? Did the line move at all? No. No, it is still 30 to 1. It will. Because of the after, if you're the, if you're the, if you're the, you're listen on podcast, it might have already done it. But right now, 30 to 1, that's pretty good. Who's up next? Terry. Terry, go ahead, Terry. Hey, guys, I'm glad you segwayed into the running back injuries.
Starting point is 00:40:00 And I know I'm 62, and I come from a time when you played. I don't care if you were hurt. You played. You played the game. So I just don't understand the logic of a chip train him. he waits all this time to play. He plays 10 plays, and now he's out again. It makes no sense to me.
Starting point is 00:40:20 I watch Max Harrison do a pick six against Ohio strut into the end zone. Let me say something about Max Harrison, though. I don't know about Chip Train him. I mean, I don't know. Max Harrison, his situation, he has to miss. Okay, it's not a football thing. So I don't want to get into it because the kid deserves privacy. but that's not a football thing, and he has to sit out.
Starting point is 00:40:46 He has no choice. And it's not in trouble. It's just a health issue that has nothing to do with playing football. And so that's why I would not put him in that mix. So he's probably done for the year, you're thinking. I mean, I thought Chip Traynham was probably done for the year. He may be now. He may have just wanted to try it.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Harrison, I would be surprised if he plays again, but let me just say, the kid has no choice. Okay, so, like, I just want to leave it at that. But I don't think it's fair to put him in that mix because his situation is very different. Okay, and then so our game plan for tomorrow night, and I'm trying to be a little bit funny, but if you're going to depend on Wilcox, he can't keep his shoes on. So are we going to throw – we're going to have to throw tomorrow night because – Well, I mean, I guess right. Of a running back situation.
Starting point is 00:41:40 Yeah, I appreciate the call, Terry. I get, if Patterson plays, then I think you've got two guys. It looks like Bush only really wants to play two guys. That's what he's done most of the year. It's probably okay. But if Patterson doesn't play, I don't know. Gavin whims it. I don't know who else it would be, right?
Starting point is 00:41:54 And Terry mentioned me have to throw it. Well, that's the one strength Auburn has, is their past defenses. Like, they're one thing they've done pretty well this year. It's the only thing that Auburn's been pretty good at is stopping the past. So in some ways, it's not matching up for us the way we would want. Yesterday we taped Fade this, I wore Shady Raid the whole time. I would just look over you and just start laughing.
Starting point is 00:42:16 It was just so ridiculous. We're indoors downtown, and you're just rocking the... I don't know what made me do it, Shannon. It was just a weird thing. What's your style? Do you go to the Wayfares? Do you go to Aviators? Do it all.
Starting point is 00:42:26 I'm more than Aviator. Aviator, but you can go to Shady Raes, an independent American-owned company started right here in Kentucky, whether you're running, fishing, biking, whatever. Starting point is 00:44:03 And we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you here on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:44:21 And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:44:41 And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the play.
Starting point is 00:45:03 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it up.
Starting point is 00:45:33 out real quick. Oh, yeah. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone. It's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World. So, yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by, um, our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some Survivor.
Starting point is 00:46:16 I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Yeah. Just because we... Yeah. We'll be recapping the big conclusion in the 50th season from the final attempts at gameplay
Starting point is 00:46:25 to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of... Ha, who. Ha ha, ooh. Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune at a pod meets twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes.
Starting point is 00:46:37 Listen to PodMeets Tworled on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:47:02 Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. A rep. My mom won't want you to be. way better. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:47:22 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. This is the time of day when they bring out the food from Penn Station and then everybody goes and eats. So we, you know, I lose everybody's attention for a minute. As soon as the food comes out, I understand. 859-2807. I hope you moved as soon as I said that. Draft King's already taking it off the board. It's like they're listening. How did they already take it off the board?
Starting point is 00:47:50 That means so many people bet it. They were like, wait a minute. What's going on, Ryan? So, Kentucky, if you were to go there right now, they have all the other SEC teams, but based on one comment, Ryan, they've already taken Kentucky off the board. I missed out.
Starting point is 00:48:04 I waited to the commercial break, and it was already gone. Can't wait until the commercial. We had some people, somebody in here got it in, right? Somebody on Twitter said there's too. So some people got it in. They all pushed Drew's pending bet through, I think. Yeah, mine's through.
Starting point is 00:48:16 So everybody's through, but if you're not through now, it'll be interesting to see it. At some point they'll put it back up. It'll be interesting to see what they put the odds for. Yeah, it'll be, I think it's going to be, we may have completely ruined the market in like four seconds. So I apologize in advance. Shannon, I thought you'd like, well, maybe not like this story.
Starting point is 00:48:33 It's probably not the most positive thing in the world. but Kenton County, a principal in Kitten County, who was a principal of an elementary school, now he's a principal of Scott High School, or going to be the principal of Scott High School. He has been suspended, and he's under review for allowing students to use a beer bong at his house. Yeah, you can't be doing that. 16 and 17-year-old, I think it was guys that they were like partying, but at his house, beer-bonged with students allegedly. Do you think that's something that'll get you in trouble?
Starting point is 00:49:09 Yes, I mean, you shouldn't be doing that as a parent anyway, especially the principal of the school. Now, again, I don't know this is much of a defense. Yeah. He's now the principal of the high school. However, when he did it, he was principal of the elementary school. I don't think that makes it any better. I think it almost makes it worse.
Starting point is 00:49:29 You know? You think that makes it worse? Yeah. I mean, and he didn't, I just wonder, like, what parents are thinking sometimes when they allow their kids to have these types of parties. You know, like, everybody's got a phone. No, no, but this is that. I don't think this is necessarily on the parents. This is the kids went to the principal's house.
Starting point is 00:49:46 Yeah. But the parents may not know that they even were there. So that's not normal. I mean, when you were 17, did your parent know where you were all the time? Well, I wasn't hanging out with the principal. I can tell you that. Well, that's what I was going to ask you. I mean, that's why I wanted to bring this up.
Starting point is 00:50:01 Well, okay. We obviously were not going to name names. But did you have teachers at your school that drank with students? I mean, I know of one at my school that did. Not with me. I didn't drink. But like with, I do know. It's not like a creepy like dating way.
Starting point is 00:50:23 Just occasionally there would be people who'd be like have a beer with. It may have happened at my high school, but I didn't run in those circles. So you. So there was definitely one at mine, were there one at Euros? Oh, yeah. Say, Ryan. I think it happened. My point is I'm not excusing it.
Starting point is 00:50:40 It's terrible behavior. But I think it happens a lot more than people realize. I don't know. For some reason, the story resonates more than me because it was a principal. Okay. That guy's supposed to be a leader and somebody you look up to. Was there one at your school? I'm sure the kids do look up to them.
Starting point is 00:50:59 You know, this show is broadcast in Madison. I love the Maroons. Had a great time there. Had a few suspicions. You don't have to say who it is. We're not going to say who it is. We had some teachers that liked hanging out with the high schoolers. Yeah, I think.
Starting point is 00:51:12 That's just weird. It's very weird. I agree with you. It's weird. It's very weird. But I just think, like, I think this happens at the high school level more than people. I think when it happens, at least when it was odds, it was like people were, people were about to graduate high school.
Starting point is 00:51:27 And it was like, hey, congrats. you're bad. It's one time for the road, you know, that kind of thing. It wasn't like a regular occurrence, Ryan, but I think it did, I think it did happen. It seems like most times the teacher has a child that is the same age of the kids that are coming over and having the partaking. It was not the case in Mach in the school, but you think that's what happens most of the time? I think most of the time. That's a good point. I mean, the principal doesn't have a, you know, a girl that's around that age. To me, it's a stranger if he doesn't have any kids.
Starting point is 00:52:00 That's what I was going to ask. Does his kid have friends over and they're just in the basement and he's upstairs letting him do whatever? Do he invite the students over? There's a, the allegation and there's a picture where the principal has the beer bong in his hand. That's not a good look. No, not at all. And none of the kids are his kids. I don't know. I didn't look at that level of detail.
Starting point is 00:52:20 I'm not sure. I don't know. But he has the veer bong in his hand. Even if he's the parents, there's a difference between like, okay, if you all stay in tonight, I'll look the other way and hey guys here's a beer ball that's for 16 year olds I mean it's jail time yeah I mean it's not good
Starting point is 00:52:41 I'm not I'm not I'm not saying it who's up next they're clear oh okay 89028027 I may have there were a lot of teachers who just who just completely put it in let's our defense our defense was terrible against Florida especially
Starting point is 00:53:00 considering what they've been, really all year, really the last few years. Do you expect that to get better on Saturday? Yeah, I hope so. We were all so high on our defense, and, you know, I brought it up a friend of mine who's a defensive guy, said, stop patting them on the back. Vanderbilt carved us up. We gave up a 90-yard drive on the opening possession. We couldn't stop them on third down.
Starting point is 00:53:18 And then the defense goes against Florida, a team that has struggled all year and gave up 48 points. So maybe there's, we're not just should be looking at our offense issues. Maybe there are now some issues on defense. Yeah, adding to my worry, Florida, Lagway had seven completions for, what, 34 each? I mean, he only threw deep balls. Auburn, that's what they do. They throw long, and they do it well. So with Max being out and how we looked a week ago,
Starting point is 00:53:43 I hope that secondary in those corners figure out how to shut that down. Yeah, I mean, we've been pretty good about stopping the big play. That's been probably the thing on defense that really Stoops teams the entire time he's been here. That's been the thing they're the best at. They kind of make you beat them underneath. well, that did not happen against Florida. I mean, to me, I just don't want to repeat that. When I was on Cole Kublich's show and McElroy didn't know who I was,
Starting point is 00:54:06 Cole Kublich did say he was like, watching the tape of that Kentucky game, that did not look like a Mark Stoops team. It looked like a completely different football team on defense. And he sort of said to me, what's going on? Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
