Those people are starving for banter.

This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee.
Starting point is 00:01:14 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:01:31 Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. There's no doubt about it.
Starting point is 00:03:03 A couple of legends in these parts, Ron Lemon. Legends in these parts and legends in the state. Got to be the best father-daughter duo ever. Ever. Ever. Two-on-two tournament. I know who I'm behind. So first of all, Anthony, you know, congratulations to you.
Starting point is 00:03:16 New boys basketball coach down the road in Campbellsville High School. So congratulations, Anthony. Yeah, not really new. I kind of took a hiatus, took a two-year-old high-aidst to Northern Kentucky University. And then I'm lucky I was able to come back. host a home. Postal home. So, you know, Central Kentucky is always going to be home to me.
Starting point is 00:03:35 And you can go anywhere in the state, but when you're in Central Kentucky, everybody to make you feel like you're at home. So I'm glad to be back. Michaela, what are you doing now then? So right now I'm, I work local. I work over in Springfield. I'm a supervisor at Inowac. And then I'm actually back playing a little basketball.
Starting point is 00:03:51 I just, this is my first season back in a couple of years. But I'm actually playing on a semi-pro team called OPP Swish. We're based out of far eastern Kentucky, Inez, Kentucky, Martin County, right there on the West Virginia line. It's a first year program, but we're already making big time noise, and I got a game Saturday, actually. Nice. Nice. Well, I know you did a little coaching there for a little while. You're at Woodford County.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Is that still something maybe in your future? So, yeah, coaching's always going to be something that I'm interested to do, and hopefully another opportunity of two coach does come around eventually. But if not, you know, right now I'm focusing on playing, so I'm a player right now. I'm not coaching anybody. I'm a player right now. Well, while we have both of you, a couple of legends in men's and women's basketball in Kentucky, I want to ask about the current state of those places
Starting point is 00:04:37 because both places just got new coaches. Michaela, I'll start with you. What do you think of the hire they made with Kenny Brooks, got a new Memorial Coliseum coming in? What about that excitement around your program? Oh, yeah, very excited. I feel like we needed a culture change, and Kenny Brooks is the man.
Starting point is 00:04:52 You know, coming from Virginia Tech, I knew Coach Brooks from the far side. You know, a couple of my friends played at Virginia Tech for Coach Brooks. So a lot of respect for him. I'm excited. I actually get to meet him next week. I'm going up next week to meet the players, meet Coach Brooks, and just be back home.
Starting point is 00:05:07 And so I'm very excited for the girls program. George Amora is a dog. She's a ball player. You know, then you've got your Kentucky kids that still part of the team, Cassidy Row and stuff like that. So I'm very proud of her for sticking it out and not transferring like some did. And, you know, obviously it's always go blue, so I wish my girls the best always. Are you jealous, though, they're shot it up the place a little bit after you're gone.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Probably get some air conditioning. It's nice. It looks good. The jerseys and stuff. The swag. The swag is way more prominent in social media check off now than it was when I was there. But, yeah, they're doing it at Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:05:38 What about you, Anthony? You know, they rolled out the bus when they rolled in your old teammate, Mark Pope, to come and take the new job here at Kentucky. Yeah, that was great. Unfortunately, I had to miss it because I was in Pittsburgh for A.U travel basketball tournament. But to bring the bus out was unbelievable
Starting point is 00:05:55 because it took me back to 96. Oh, yeah. we roll it in there and then to see Pope come out. And the crazy thing is to have 20,000 people for a press conference. Yeah. You know, that was unbelievable. And I get what we did. You know, Cal walks into Arkansas in the arena with the 3,000 fans and Barthard was like,
Starting point is 00:06:14 let's show them what it's really about. So we come out with 20,000 fans and show them that nobody who's leading the team, Kentucky always going to be Kentucky. And it's bigger than one person. And very, very excited for what Mark Pope is. being back is going to do for the alumni to bring everybody back close together. I know they had a big gathering yesterday at the practice with the law familiar in the UK team going at each other. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make that as well because I was out trying to play golf.
Starting point is 00:06:44 Just my new hobby playing golf, so I got together with some of my friends, came out to Rosewood, played 18 holes. And I'm just very excited not only for Mark Pope, but for the common will. I think we all needed to change. Kyle tremendous at what he did for the 15 years, but I think everybody needed a change and changes. Sometimes it's good, and, you know,
Starting point is 00:07:09 everybody wanted Danny Hurley, everybody wanted this, but I think Ms. Barnett had Mark Pope in his back pocket and did a great job with that hire. You weren't able to make it that day because of prior commitment with AAU. Yes, basketball still keeping you busy. But what was the group techs like, all those guys on the bus. I mean, they had to have been just as shocked as everyone else there about that turnout. You know, leading up to him being hired, I think Antoine Walker that came out of the blue
Starting point is 00:07:38 said, I think Mark has a shot at this job. And you know, everybody's like, nah, Mark probably not getting this job. You know, he's going to get Danny Hurley. He's going to get this person. Baylor's coach, you know, everybody else was mentioned. But I'm very, I'm happy that he got. one of our guys. You know, when you play at the university, you always want to see your guys come back and have an opportunity to lead. And, you know, Mark's the winner.
Starting point is 00:08:04 I play with him. I know what he's going to give. He's going to be about the Commonwealth. And that's the biggest thing for me, make it about the people that pay the money to come and watch our kids play. Now, Michaela, during your dad's senior day at Rupp Arena, he walks out holding
Starting point is 00:08:20 little Michaela Epps in his arm on his senior day at Kentucky. Corey Price retweeted that picture today. I mean, you were born and bred to be a Kentucky Wildcat. There was no doubt where your path was going to go. You know, I did take off. I did go offset a little bit, and I did have a verbal commitment to Louisville when I was very young. And I'm glad that we switched back to the blue.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Yes, you know, that's a decision and a choice that I made. Me and my family made when I was real young. And, you know, I do not regret the decision to flip back and stay in Lexington and go in Lexington and wear the blue for my four years. I don't regret that at all. What was the pressure like, though, with your dad being a legend? I think I remember reading a story or doing an interview with you. You might even like Candace Parker in Tennessee just for a little bit.
Starting point is 00:09:01 We'll ignore that too. But I'm sure the community was all about pushing to the UK. Was there ever a time where you thought it might actually be different and you would step out? I know you had the verbal commitment, but was that seeming pretty serious? You know, it was just one of them things. You know, my dad is my dad. I've always respected him for what he did, but there was never no true pressure. You know, nobody ever pushed me.
Starting point is 00:09:20 My family, my mom and my dad never pushed me. My community really never pushed me. Of course, everybody whispered and wanted to see that because we all thought it would be pretty cool. Yeah, but there was truly ever no pressure, and I'm grateful for that also because at the time I was a young kid. And of course, you know, just the influence of your peers and your family members, you know, you can make decisions in that regard. But, you know, I made the decision sold out of the heart. Like, you know, that's my goat. He's one of my goats.
Starting point is 00:09:43 So, you know, I wanted to be like him. So I had an opportunity to be like him. So I took that. And I appreciate that. And just to say this, I had a great career. But if I'm balancing my careers at UK, I'm going to give it to McCalla because she's one of the top five players to ever play at the University of the school. Yes, absolutely. Definitely.
Starting point is 00:10:02 No doubt. And it's great to know that coming from a very small town, I got here a little late today, but I got to see those softball girls come up after winning the state. So it lets people know that you can't make it from a small town. You don't have to travel off to a big city to make it. You got two people up here that went off to the next level. Got a lot of successful people out here watching today that we know, and we know how successful they are. So it was just great and an honor to be able to come back.
Starting point is 00:10:34 But to sit up here with the goat of ladies' basketball, you know, she say I'm her goat, but she's my goat. Both of you guys want you to talk about this. What is it about this community in Marion County and the pride and the basketball? ball tradition that makes it just something special. There's just some loyal people out there, man. There's some people out in the crowd right now that have, I've seen these faces for years.
Starting point is 00:10:58 The same faces, you know, that was cheering for me when I was at Marin County, the same faces that was sharing for me when I was at Kentucky. So obviously, if they cheered for me, they cheered for him. So, like, these people are loyal. You know, there's some real loyal people in the city. And, you know, my hat tips off to everybody. You know, like Jim Reed back there, that's my guy. That's my guy back there.
Starting point is 00:11:16 He's been around for a long time, a lot of respect, a lot of love. You know, there's just a lot of people in the community, man, that, you know, once we get involved in something, you know, they will back you, they will rally you. And I've always loved and supported Marin County and I've rep Levinan through and through. Ryan mentioned, you know, that senior night when you had the cheerleader uniform, your little baby. But tell us about some of those first memories actually getting the basketball in your hand here in Marion County. Do you have a lot of places to play? I mean, what was growing up like before you became the star you were in Lexington? I just growing up around here was fun.
Starting point is 00:11:45 You know, I played Little League basketball. And back when I grew up, it was a thing that. where you played. And the more points you scored, he was in the paper. So, you know, I wanted to see my name in the paper every week. They don't do that, but they really don't do that anymore for the kids in Little League. But, you know, growing up, that was one of my biggest things. You know, I was in Little League and I wanted to see my name in the paper. And then, you know, I started playing middle school basketball in the, in the fifth grade, you know, and then high school basketball in the sixth grade. You know, I did seven years of high school basketball. So
Starting point is 00:12:12 they gave me nothing but opportunity to play basketball in Marin County. And, you know, there's not a lot to really do around here. You've got to get to. get outside and get yourself involved in something and basketball was just my way out. You know, we can't, you might remember this, but when you were in the seventh grade, I was working at WKYT, we came down and did a story on you because Anthony was an assistant coach when you were starting varsity as a seventh grader, and we talked about how every day you came out and practice, you looked up and there's your dad's picture in that team photo of state championship picture. I mean, it meant something to you.
Starting point is 00:12:41 No, absolutely. You know, like I said, he's my dad, so he's always been around and then to go to Marin County and just see it every day, you know, he was really great. in his respective era and you know I was a part of a magnificent team one of the best to ever do it if not the best depending on who you ask you know to ever do it in the state of Kentucky so you know it was definitely a different sense of motivation you know like my dad was that guy so I wanted to be her you know I just want to keep that going yeah and take go back to that 2013 team was just an unbelievable team you had Michaela you had Kyvin you had Patrice you had Logan Hazelwood you had Haley Howard but it all really rounds around one guy you had Trent Milby who was the head coach of that team and he's at Burrell now doing great things. He needs to be a
Starting point is 00:13:26 Division 1 head coach. I don't know what these 80s are doing. They're missing out on a basketball mind. It's unbelievable. But the thing that I love the most about coaching with them is he held them all accountable. McKellie didn't get no days off for practice Kyvin and they get no days off
Starting point is 00:13:42 because we was looking at a bigger prize and that was to win another state championship to bring it back home to Marin County And it was just great to have 20 years difference from 93 when we wanted it as the boys playing in front of 20,000 people at Rupp to her going to Western Kentucky and winning for the girls selling out of the rent to bring it back home. There's not a lot of community that can say that they want a boys and a girls state title. I guarantee you there are very few families that have a dad and a daughter both win state titles at the same school. So ladies and gentlemen, I know you're very proud of these two. It's given one big round of applause.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Anthony Epps and McAeale Eps, the pride of Lebanon and Marion County. Thank you both. That was great. Appreciate it. We'll take our break. We'll come back. We've got a lot more coming up on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game.

Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:15:37 Come on out. Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, Brett, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. There are times when the mind becomes a difficult place to live. This is David Eagleman with the Inner Cosmos podcast, and for Mental Health Awareness Month,
Starting point is 00:16:06 we're dedicating a series to understanding the mind when it struggles. I'm joined by doctors, researchers, and those with lived experience. We'll talk with singer-songwriter Jewel about anxiety. I started living in my car and then my car got stolen. I was shoplifting. I was having panic attacks. I was agoraphobic. And making it through hardship.
Starting point is 00:16:28 To be present is a learned skill. And it's hard to be present. We'll talk with John Nelson about clinical depression and the brain implant that saved his life. What I learned is that procedure made me happy because I'm disease-free. And we'll talk with leading experts like Judd Brewer about anxiety.
Starting point is 00:16:48 and John Hirschfield about obsessive-compulsive disorder and the science of how the brain can change. This is a month of deeply personal and honest conversations about what happens when the brain goes off course and what we can do about it. Listen to Inner Cosmos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:17:13 Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio live in downtown Lebanon. Marion County Day here. As we celebrate the end of the summer concert series, our thanks to Lebanon tourism and Johnny Elder Law Office, Johnny Rockets. We just finished Rocker. Johnny Rocker, what I say? Rockets. Johnny Rocker. That's the Burger Place.
Starting point is 00:17:31 We just finished that interview, Drew, with Anthony Michaela Epps. It's just like yesterday. We could have talked to them for an hour. Do you notice I hopped up and just started asking Anthony questions during the commercial break? Asked him about their old uniforms, the old Converse denim. Well, I love the question you asking about the group chat with all those 90s. guys and they were talking about whether Mark don't get the job. No, they're not going to get the job to Mark Pope.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Now, you heard Mark Pope talk about that is that is lit. That group chat has been lit since he took over, since he took over. And we've heard about the 96 group chat for a long time, but I'd say that's going to be really fun to follow for them as the years go. I wish you could get in it? I'd like to sneak in. Maybe just add a little random number in there. You know, there's always a group text. You're like, well, I don't know that 8-5
Starting point is 00:18:13 number, and you just keep talking. Maybe one of us could sneak in and be there, they're outsider. Johnny Rocker just said that's the first live interview Anthony McAale Epps have ever done together. First one was right there. How is that even possible? That's really cool. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:26 How about that? Ron Lemon, bringing people together and making history. Well, our thanks to Lebanon Tourism and Johnny Rocker for helping us set that up. I like hearing Michaela's getting back and playing, too, with the Eastern Kentucky program that just started up. I saw that was announced, and she's going to be a big part of it. And I want to say this about McAleaps. You know, that one season, over half the team left UK. She didn't.
Starting point is 00:18:49 She stayed. She honored her commitment, and she stayed and played, and I've always respected her and admired her for that. And you're talking about putting a team on your back? Yes, she did. That was certainly a big year for Michaela when a lot of her teammates went on to try their opportunities. And then how about a verbal commitment to Louisville when she was younger? I'm sure that. I wonder how that went in the household.
Starting point is 00:19:07 I actually had forgotten that she had verbally committed to Louisville and then switched it to Kentucky. We'll just edit that out of the podcast. Edit it out. 859-2-287. That's a Clark's Publishop phone number if you want to call and get a board. We've got a couple lines open. We'll take some calls here in this next couple of segments coming up. Starting point is 00:19:23 Yeah, I was going to tell you who this segment was sponsored by it. Why don't you tell us who this? If you don't have to. No, I want to tell us. We're certainly sponsored by Draft Kings. You know, July, a little slow on sports, but we got the open going on right now. UFC 304 is coming up. Starting point is 00:20:15 I got a question for you guys. You know, you're on social media, they've always got these lists. Top this, top this, top that. Well, they had a list of the top sports moments in each state. Ooh. Top sports moments in each state. I will run around this building if you guys guess what they said was Kentucky's top sports moment. Come on, Drew.
Starting point is 00:20:38 I want to see Ryan run around this building. I know he threw me off, though, because it makes me think it's going to be something obscure. I would have had some guesses, but the way the way packaged it makes me think it's let's talk it out probably not a derby winner right i mean that's exciting for us but that's not the end of the triple crown so probably not a horse race but you would think that maybe secretariat yeah record that still stands might be that i was that was actually going to be my guess is that it that's not it was it like a high school sports moment that we're not think not a high school tiger woods at valhalla that's another good one you would think that's a great sports moment
Starting point is 00:21:10 that wasn't what they picked not basketball though not basketball not baseball not Rider Cup? Not football. Not golf. All right. What are you got? Not horse racing? Dude, I was shocked. But then after I say it, you may understand. They consider it the greatest boxing match in the history of boxing when Muhammad Ali beat George Frazier in the rumble in the jungle. And since he's from Louisville, they gave that moment as the greatest sports moment in Kentucky. I want to throw a flag. Yeah, I thought it had to happen in the summer. state of Kentucky. No. That's how the game was presented I think. No, you guys didn't follow the
Starting point is 00:21:52 instructions. You said greatest in the state of Kentucky moment in Kentucky history. The rumble of the jungle didn't happen in Kentucky. No, it didn't happen in the jungle. I'm still confused that I'm very confused about this thing. But do you agree though? It could be in the argument. No. No. If it's the greatest moment in Kentucky history then it I think it would have to be in Kentucky. What if it's by Kentucky in? Doesn't matter. It wasn't that's a different category. It has to be in the territory of Kentucky. Now I don't feel as bad for not thinking of it. Well, I was shocked.
Starting point is 00:22:21 I was shocked, too, when you told me. First thing I thought of was really what you said was Secretariat, I think, made me win in the Kentucky Derby. It might be the greatest sports moment in state's history. Gotcha. No. I was confused by the assignment. I thought we were doing things in the bluegrass. It wasn't in German for crying out loud.
Starting point is 00:22:38 It was normal. Now I've got a little trivia question for you. 859-2-802-287. I've got a couple lines open. if you want to call and get on board before we get J.D. Shelburne on at the bottom of the hour. We've talked about this before, but then somebody did a study about how many baseballs does Major League Baseball go through in one season. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:22:58 Well, you get what? 30, is it 30 teams or 32 teams? 32 teams, right? Okay. Is it? Is it? I thought it was 30. Okay, whatever.
Starting point is 00:23:06 Maybe it is 30. Regardless, a ton of baseball is just in a single day for each team. What would be your guess? I'm going to do some quick math here. Oh, you're getting the calculator out? Let me put the calculator out. Oh, Drew, what do you think? Did you say these game only?
Starting point is 00:23:22 In a game. How many baseballs they go through in a major league baseball season in a game? I've done no math. I'm just going to say a number 80,000. Oh, I was going to go way higher. I was thinking like two or 300,000. Shannon, you're the last. I don't know how stupid that guess is, though.
Starting point is 00:23:38 Like, it could come out and be a ridiculous number. I'm going to go $259,000 and $200. you're going to be shocked how many 900,000 almost a million baseballs 900,000 baseball and I got to thinking about that's a lot but any more if a ball get scuffed
Starting point is 00:23:55 throw it out any foul ball out you know anything that the pitcher doesn't like something on the ball out yeah and then there's that guy that sits over by the dugout and he puts a little sticker on it authentic encates off this and takes authentic
Starting point is 00:24:12 Yeah, authenticates that the ball was in a big league baseball game. So they probably do go through 900,000 baseballs in a season. I guess so when you start looking at how many games there are 162 games, 30 or maybe 32 teams, we don't know. But, yeah, that's pretty impressive. I thought I saw something at the Bats game where you could buy a mystery ball. It's a game-used ball, but it could be like any foul ball throughout the season, or it could be somebody's like, you know, a big moment at home run, a walk-off. But that's part of it is like you for the mystery, but you get a game used ball.
Starting point is 00:24:46 And they sell that at minor league games. By the way, we have a listener. He goes by the name Richie, last name Farmer, who says his name was Joe Frazier, not George Frazier. I call it George Frazier. The sports moment in Kentucky game, I think, we need to redo. George Foreman, Joe Frazier. I'm telling you, I read the question correctly. Best moment in Kentucky sports history.
Starting point is 00:25:10 That's what it was. Best moment in Kentucky sports history. I don't know. I don't think that one can count. All right. Reed Shepard. He was drafted third. Somebody put out a graphic that in his first two summer league games,
Starting point is 00:25:28 he has more points than the number one pick and the number two pick combined. He's the third pick. He has a higher field go percentage than both the number one pick, number two pick. Hires three point percentage. More steals. Then those two guys combined. Drew, the more and more it goes on, the more and more it looks like they made a mistake by not taking him number one.
Starting point is 00:25:50 Yeah, usually you've got to see how the season goes. I think both of those places are already like, uh, we messed up. Yes. Olivier's brother, Alex Tsar. Yeah. What do you go? O for 15 in a game a few days ago. He took 15 shots and none of them went in.
Starting point is 00:26:06 You know what I could do? I could take 15 shots and make none of them. go in. And I can do that right now and take 15 shots. I'd say that game alone, and we're pro Alex Arr. He was Olivier's teammate. He's got a little big blue in him. But I've already seen enough of that pick versus Reed Shepard of what they're doing in Vegas. Reed Shepard is already, I mean, he has to go on and put to the better competition in the NBA, but they're already calling him one of the best Summer League league debuts in a decade. Got Trey Young and John Morant tweeting about him. That just doesn't happen a lot at the NBA
Starting point is 00:26:34 Summer League. Yeah, still very early, but right now Houston looks like the big winner of the NBA So, yeah, I think based on what we've seen so far, and again, it's just a few games that he should have been the top pick. And let's think about this for a second. This is a guy that wasn't supposed to play at all, barely this year. Was he going to get off the bench? Is Richie going to play? Is Reed going to play was going to be the new thing? And then he came off the bench and I think exceeded our wildest expectations for him.
Starting point is 00:26:59 Maybe ESPN will stop covering Brony and talk about him a little bit. You did Reed stats versus the top two picks. I'd like to see Reed's just exposure on ESPN. versus Bronny's because Reed's the one playing all the good basketball, but anytime I check up Summer League stuff, go to Instagram, it's, look, Bronny passed it. And the guy caught it. And Dad's still courtside.
Starting point is 00:27:18 I mean, I'm seeing Jeff standing up on every great play that Reed's made. Brian hit his first three yesterday. Reed hit his first three a week ago. It hit 10 seconds into the game. That's Larry from Lebanon right there. Longtime caller here at WLAP, Larry from Lebanon. There he is. We'll take our break.
Starting point is 00:27:32 Come back. We've got another special guest to join us here. We're live in downtown Lebanon. Marion County. Country Concert Series wraps up a week from tomorrow. We've got the superstar on. We come back here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Hey, man.
Starting point is 00:27:44 You're the grand finale down here in the summer concert series in Marion County. So I know you've been great about playing all across the state representing Kentucky and the UK. So you're going to wrap it up here in the summer concert series in Lebanon a week from tomorrow. Listen, man, Shannon the dude kicks it off, and we're going to finalize the concert next week. I can't think it's two better Kentucky guys to kick off and end the concert. We're pretty tough to be there.
Starting point is 00:28:10 J.D. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise.
Starting point is 00:28:25 Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games,
Starting point is 00:28:42 from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the Iheart radio app,
Starting point is 00:28:55 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, guys? This is Clifford Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show,
Starting point is 00:29:06 I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:29:27 What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. There are times when the mind becomes a difficult place to live. This is David Eagleman with the Inner Cosmos podcast, and for Mental Health Awareness Month,
Starting point is 00:29:51 we're dedicating a series to understanding the mind when it struggles. I'm joined by doctors, researchers, and those with lived experience. We'll talk with singer-songwriter Jewel about anxiety. I started living in my car, and then my car got stolen. I was shoplifting.
Starting point is 00:30:07 I was having panic attack. I was agoraphobic. And making it through hardship. To be present is a learned skill. And it's hard to be present. We'll talk with John Nelson about clinical depression and the brain implant that saved his life. What I learned is that procedure made me happy
Starting point is 00:30:26 because I'm disease-free. And we'll talk with leading experts like Judd Brewer about anxiety and John Hirschfield about obsessive-compulsive disorder and the science of how the brain can change. This is a month of deeply personal and honest conversations about what happens when the brain goes off course and what we can do about it. Listen to Inner Cosmos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You're obviously a very big Kentucky fan.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Anyone that follows you on Twitter, social media knows that. But, you know, when you're out touring and things, it probably lines up with games, probably hard to follow. How do you keep up with a basketball game when you're on a stage somewhere? on a Saturday night. You got any fun tales of maybe running off to stage and checking a score or anything like that? Yeah, a few times. You know, a lot of times I have my phone, usually down on the monitor. I'll kind of peek at the score every now and then. I try not to book shows when there's games, and sometimes my schedule just sometimes has interference on that. But I'm a die-hard Kentucky fan, and I've got to tell you guys, listening to your show last year towards the end of our heartbreaking
Starting point is 00:31:38 season really helped me kind of cope. I mean, I thought for sure the team, team we had this past year was going to do something special, and we just didn't get it done in the end, and I listened to you guys religiously for weeks to help me get over that disappointing season end. So, you know, I'm die-hard at the core, Big Blue all the way. That was group therapy for all of us, Gene. It was his group therapy for all of us.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Now, during the commercial break, Shannon the dude was reminiscing how he said he struck you out in high school baseball. JD and I go way back to his Spencer County baseball days, My Bull at East Baseball days. And now you're big time, J.D. You're down in Nashville. How's that Nashville life? It's going good, man.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Man, we had a lot of good times playing ball. I don't remember the strikeout, but maybe. Who knows? I don't either. I don't either. I just make stuff up. Yeah. We had a lot of good times playing ball against each other.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Man, Bullitt East. We played the summer, you know, fall ball. And we got in high school and played. Some of my best memories as a kid is playing sports against our district rival. It's so much fun. You know, now music's the biggest part of my life. And it's neat to be able to go back and play shows and see people you play ball against like yourself and other folks along the way that played against me.
Starting point is 00:32:52 So Nashville's good, man. It's crazy. My real estate agent I talked to the other day said 150 people moved to Nashville today. I can certainly believe it. Wow. That's why it's crazy busy down there. We're hoping to stay in Nashville a little longer next March if they'll have us. You know, it's been quick trips down there on these Friday.
Starting point is 00:33:09 Are you able to go to the SEC tournament when it makes it down? Oh, yeah. You know, the last five or six years, Cala Perry has given me tickets to the Vanderbilt games. So I've been going to the Vanity game. Now Cal has shipped the Arkansas, and I guess I won't be going to Vanderbilt games anymore. But I've really enjoyed that. You know, I'm surrounded by Tennessee fans here in my neighborhood. So it's just been, it's been terrible.
Starting point is 00:33:30 You know, I've been flying UK flags on the back porch and the front. And so I have been enjoying that. So I do hope to see the SEC tournament last. a little bit longer these last few years. I'm hoping Pope can change that. J.D., this is Billy. Now, Shannon the dude's the singer of our group, but one thing he's never done is sing a national anthem. I want to know if you've sang a national anthem, and how does that compare to the pressure of maybe a show that you've done before, if you've done one before? I've done many national anthems. I've sing it rough a couple times.
Starting point is 00:33:59 I'm actually singing the anthem at the Brewers' Dodgers game in Milwaukee next month. I'm really excited about that. My mom always told me to start low when you're singing that song. high. By the end of the song, it's just going to be a train wreck. And so it's a very nerve-wracking song. I don't know if Shannon's done it, but I did see the performance on TV the other night. I was pretty disappointed in it. I knew something was wrong when I heard a performance. But it's a very nerve-wracking pass to do, but I enjoy doing them. Now tell us then about the concert you've got coming up here in Lebanon, a week from tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Yeah, so this Friday, or next Friday, be playing 11 in Kentucky for their summer concert finale, play 8 to 10. Looking forward to playing Lebanon. The last time I played there, we headlined the Ham Days back in 2015. So it's been a long time, so I've been to Marion County. I'm looking forward to getting back to the concert series and seeing the folks. I was on the cover of the tourism bag years ago, and that helped me meet a lot of tourism directors over the state. So it's always been great to come back to do these all-town concert series.
Starting point is 00:35:09 I'm just looking forward to doing that. Well, J.D., we appreciate it, man. Good luck. I mean, I know you have a great crowd here because, like I said, you've been across the street representing Kentucky very well. So, man, we appreciate you spending some time with us, and good luck the rest of the way on your career. I appreciate it, man.
Starting point is 00:35:24 Shout out to Kentucky Joe for that little story we reminisce. And also shut up in Lerringen. Was that true? Did you name your first guitar after Kentucky Joe? man I probably did I don't remember that but listen every time every time Kentucky goes around listen every time Kentucky Joe's around he makes me smile every time he's a living legend I'm so glad that
Starting point is 00:35:47 he calls into the show he makes me laugh every time love it very cool keep flying those flags in Tennessee we know all the big blue south of the border we can get amen amen JD show big battle applause for JD we down here thank you JD back in 11 in a week from tomorrow on the wrap up the summer concert series he put on a show before the Reds game we all went to last year. He might have even done the national anthem of that game. Did I think about it.
Starting point is 00:36:08 Yeah, I've seen JD a few times out about. So we finally got back on our KSR parlay yesterday. How are we doing, Drew? We don't talk about how we're doing. That's a Victor Hovlin problem. He's ruining everything. But the Open is going on. The parlay's not doing well, Drew?
Starting point is 00:36:25 It's not over until it's over. We have till Sunday. But John Rom, we picked him. He's doing well. Oberg, he's doing all right. So there's two? We need, Hovlin could be doing a little better, but, you know, we built that the top 30 parlay. Billy tried one of those when you were gone.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Those have been pretty fun with golf, but I will give some British Open updates for anyone who cares, because Justin Thomas is our leader. Is that right? Kentucky guy. Louisville. Yeah, low scores, not like Valhalla, everybody was shooting 20-something under, but right now in the clubhouse, Justin Thomas at 3-under is leading the British Open. So good for him, might even, might go back to betting a little bit,
Starting point is 00:36:59 add a little live bet on Justin to finish job. But good getting up and watching golf at 5 a.m. this morning. I'm one of the crazies that checked in at Royal Trune. Well, good to see that Justin's playing better. I think he had a round that almost broke the course record in the Scottish Open just last week, and now he's leading the open. So maybe he's found his magic again. Yeah, we wanted him to get that one home course, the PGA.
Starting point is 00:37:19 That would have been nice. But, hey, anytime Justin Thomas is up in a major, we're rooting for him. And he's not won this before, right? No. Not the British. No, just the PGA. It's a PGA. But if you want to do your own parlayer, I'll go back.
Starting point is 00:37:31 on Justin, you know, Draft Kings, you can do it on there too. There we go. 859-2802-287. That's our Clark's Pubbyshop phone number. I have another trivia question for you guys. Oh, okay. Another social media thing. What do you think was Kentucky's fastest growing city in
Starting point is 00:37:45 2023? Corbett. You say Corbett? Yeah. All right. Drew? Fastest growing city in 2020. Large city.
Starting point is 00:37:53 Oh. Large city. Well, Corbin would count because the fastest growing city was Pippa Passus. but that was a small town. So who was the fastest-growing largest city in Kentucky? I think it's about to be Elizabeth Town because the world's largest factory is just swallowing up everything in that part of the state. I don't know if you've driven by that. But for this exercise, I'm going to say Georgetown, Kentucky, Bob.
Starting point is 00:38:16 All right. Billy? Yeah, I don't know. Factory is a good call, though. Maybe Bardstown? Is that a bad guess? What is it? You want to redo your guest, Drew?
Starting point is 00:38:25 So I was right, wasn't I? Elizabeth Town. I thought of 2023 might have been a little early. I knew the boom was coming, but yeah, it's got to be around that gigantic plant. I see driving through there. If you've not driven past that, it's like a whole city is going up there along the I-65 south on the way down to Bolling Green. It's unbelievable. And I go to Nashville, Western Kentucky, semi-frequently, so I kind of feel like I've seen it, you know, driving by every month or two, see it grow.
Starting point is 00:38:51 It's growing fast and just keeps getting bigger and bigger. It's truly something unbelievable to see on the side of the highway there. It's a Ford battery plan, right? That's what's going up out there. massive. So final, final guess here, Elizabeth Town? Guess what? That's the right answer. Elizabethtown, the fastest growing in LARCity in Kentucky in 2020. All right. We'll take our final break. Come back, our final segment, 859-280-2-287. Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin, Shannon the dude, Billy R Sports. We're right back
Starting point is 00:39:15 and wrap it up here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee.
Starting point is 00:40:17 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Wreck, my mama want you to weigh better. What? Where's she at?
Starting point is 00:40:38 Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, everyone. It's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World. And now the Pod Meets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Stars,
Starting point is 00:41:03 traders, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. So yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show. I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some Survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it?
Starting point is 00:41:23 Yeah. Just because we? Yeah. We'll be recapping the big conclusion in the 50th season from the final attempts at gameplay to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of, Ha, ooh. Ha, ha, ooh. Again, we are experts.
Starting point is 00:41:37 So make sure to tune in to Pod Meets Twirled for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to PodMeets Twirled on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, our final segment here live in downtown Lebanon. Marion County Day, our thanks to the Lebanon Tourism, who brought us over here, Lebanon Tourism. What are you laughing about this text? I'm getting. about the stray cat. I got quite the dilemma going.
Starting point is 00:42:05 I got a stray cat that has showed up at the front porch. And Sarah, I made the mistake of giving it water. Well, now she thinks that it's our cat. And I go, this is a stray cat. I asked around, asked the neighbors. They said, no, this is a cat that's been running up and down the street. It runs out in the field. It catches mice.
Starting point is 00:42:22 You know, it's been around the street for like three or four years. Well, yesterday the cat disappears. It comes back with a collar on. And apparently one of our other neighbors, a few doors down, has claimed this collar. They've claimed him. I get this text. Hey, she's named it Gene.
Starting point is 00:42:36 It's got a name now. Gene the cat. And she says, hey, it's been napping in our driveway. Don't hit Gene when you come in. And I just texted her, this is not our cat. And she's texted back. I can't help that he chose us. So she thinks that the cat is choosing us.
Starting point is 00:42:52 It's not our cat. I don't want the cat to go hungry. I don't want to not have water. But it's not our cat. It's not our responsibility. It sounds like it's your cat. It's not my cat. It kind of sounds like your cat.
Starting point is 00:43:02 I think you're going to lose this fight here. I think the cat and Sarah is going to win this one. Congrats on Gene. Make sure it's got plenty of food. Don't hit it. It's sleeping on the sidewalk. I'm going to need plenty of cornbread hemp to get through this cat fiasco. And if you're ready for a self-care summer full of fun and relaxation,
Starting point is 00:43:18 cornbread hemp will take care of you with all of their extra strength, full-spectrum Cbteroom CBD gummies. This is the strongest one they've ever had. And you can get it right now at cornbreadhemp.com with extra strength, 100 milligrams of CBD and 4 milligrams of freedom. whether it's aches, pain, sleepless nights, cats showing up at your house, whatever it may be. Starting point is 00:43:45 You know, there's no other place I'd rather be in the world right now than, of course, Lebanon. But if I had a second place this weekend, it would be Pittsburgh, because you know what's going on? Oh, don't tell me, it's the pickle fast. Picklefast. Pickle fast. Is it really? That's right. That's right.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Fun weekend that we had there. We drank some pickle beer. It was awful. We met Tiley, Texas. Matt said, I know more than the internet. It was a fun weekend that we had a very memorable trip to Pittsburgh. I walked around downtown Pittsburgh with my bald head painted black that whole night. That was all part of the same day.
Starting point is 00:44:16 I bought jars of pickle juice at a gas station to practice the chugging contest. That's right. But then somebody was sweepie and needed a nap, and we didn't get to go down to Pickle Fest. Was that me? No, it was the driver. We got the hotel. Matt needed a nap. He was like, ah, we don't need to do it.
Starting point is 00:44:30 What am I chugging pickle juice for? I'm practicing. I'm amped up. Let's go. Now, that's the place that looked like it should have been torn down about 10 years ago that we stayed in. And it had, like, bunk beds. If I remember correctly, there was two bunk beds, so a bed for each, all four of us. And we're all sitting there taking a nap and a run together with bunk beds.
Starting point is 00:44:46 When I was supposed to be becoming the legend of Pickles Town, what's it called? Picklesburg, yeah. I think we got to go back. Maybe a redemption tour for you. I knew about the event. I didn't know you were training for it. Oh, he trained. Are the pickles still not in his backseat from the road trip?
Starting point is 00:45:00 sure they are. No doubt. That's the first Airbnb. We joke about the Airbnb's a lot. That's the first one where I thought one of us might leave with a bullet wound. Yeah. Across the street, they were boarded up. Yeah, that was not a good area to be in.
Starting point is 00:45:10 Not a good area. But, you know, we were there. We survived it and meant for good stories. Yep, should have been demolished. I think there may have been a bullet hole or two, actually, in our siding on the Airbnb. 859-2802-287. We've got to call her on. Is that what you said, Ian?
Starting point is 00:45:27 Caleb, go ahead, Caleb. Hey, guys. How's it going? How are you doing? I'm doing pretty good. So, admittedly, I live in Whitley County, and I heard it's Whitley County Day. And admittedly, I'm a podcast listener most of the time, so I don't get to listen to the live show a lot.
Starting point is 00:45:42 One of my athletes called in, and I'm an assistant coach for the archery team, you guys mentioned from Cumberland. Yes. Nice. Yeah, we gave them a shout-out. 16 national champions and have only been in existence for 12 years. Yes, sir, yes, sir. So how do they get 16 championships in 12 years?
Starting point is 00:45:59 You've got a men's title and a women's title, I guess? No, we typically go with the overall team title, but we have three different styles that we shoot, similar to track and field. We have a 3D archery that's shot in the fall, indoor archery that shot in the winter, and then outdoor archery that shot in the spring. There you go.
Starting point is 00:46:17 There you go. Very good. Congratulations to you guys, and that's what they're now, University of the Cumberlands Archery School. Very good. I appreciate the phone call. I had one more Cumberland's fact.
Starting point is 00:46:29 I forgot University of Cumberland's. Let's not forget in 1916 when they played Georgia Tech in football. 222 to nothing. To this day, still the most lopsided score in the history of college football. I should add that Cumberland was the zero. Georgia Tech was the 222, but that is a record that I doubt will be touched. Even if it's in 1916, how do you score 222 points in a football game? I would shut down the school immediately.
Starting point is 00:46:55 No, I think I don't condone fighting, but if someone's running the score up that much, you just take the pads off and say we have to fight. I'm not going to let you beat me 200. I'm not going to be talked about 100 years later as the worst loss ever. Well, as we've seen earlier in the show, Drew and Shannon and Billy are horrible at Kentucky trivia. But tonight we have UK trivia night at KS Bar and Grill. And the reason I want to talk about this, somebody's got to come and beat Corey Price.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Corey Price came in when we did it last month and he just killed it. Beat second place like by 10 points. It wasn't even close. Corey. And, of course, Kelle. who writes him down. Kelly thinks she's part of the team. All she does is write his answers down. We need somebody to come in, a team to come in and beat Corey Price tonight for UK trivia tonight. It's kind of like Stump the Schwab. Everybody's playing against one guy.
Starting point is 00:47:41 Uh-huh. Do you think, uh, you think Corey's, is you playing fair? I mean, too. I know he's good, but I mean. I think he's more than playing fair. And I even, when I wrote the question, try to write him really hard to try to stump him. Still, he killed it. So I've written him again for tonight. Well, if you stump him, how do you think that anybody else is going to get the answer? Well, that's a good point. Did you write the questions like the Muhammad Ali question? Mahmahili question was worded appropriately.
Starting point is 00:48:08 I think you guys were just poor trivia people. They couldn't figure it out. That'll be fun. I'm going to get by there, too. Be a fun night of that. UK trivia tonight at KS Bar at 7 o'clock. If you want to come on out and join us. And again, as we said, the summer concert series out here at Marion County in Lebanon.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Shannon started it. You guys had to, you played the Ham Days. You've played in summer call. You've played twice down here. They got a really great setup, great sound system. I was bragging on that to the guys earlier today. They're going to have good buddies brewing out there, bouncy houses for the kids. You can go to visit LebanonkY.com to get all the details on that.
Starting point is 00:48:41 Very good. Now, you guys, you know, we haven't even talked about it, but, you know, the Summer Olympics are coming up. Are you any interest at all? Oh, I love the Olympics. And I like the things you think I would watch, that's not what I'm watching. I like the obscure sports. I'll watch gymnastics. I'll watch any of it.
Starting point is 00:48:56 just, I like the Olympics. I like it all. I mean, of course, watching the Team USA basketball, that's the phone and golf, those sports, but I really love this stuff I wouldn't normally watch. Yeah, I'll watch some of it. I've been keeping up with the basketball team, as Drew just mentioned there. There's also a talk, I think, of next time we do the Summer Olympics, they're being baseball. You've got to be for baseball, being a part of the Summer Olympics, right? It is, isn't it? I don't, I don't think. I don't know if this year. I don't think it is this year. We're not doing it this year.
Starting point is 00:49:24 No. Not this year. But what isn't nowadays in Olympics? Flag football. Skateboarding is in it now with three on three. Obviously the UK has got a lot in track and fields. We'll be following that. I always like watching the swimming. I don't watch swimming ever, but if it's in the Olympics, I'm watching as much as I can.
Starting point is 00:49:42 I think like the mayor in Paris swam in the river to calm the nerves of all this toxic waste that's been in the river that people are going to have to swim in. Have you seen that story that was the big controversy that all the water that they're using to swim in was like. like poop water basically. Oh, well, I didn't know that, but I heard like there were no air conditioners in the dorms, and so all the athletes are bringing their own poor. All the Americans are bringing their own. There's like cardboard beds. We always hear this for the Olympics, how poor the setups are, but I'm excited to watch it.
Starting point is 00:50:11 What's Ron Lemon's favorite Olympic sport? I like you. I remember when Michael Phelps was swimming in 08 in the Olympics, I watched every event of swimming. I know nothing about swimming. I never competed, but it was, you just want to watch greatness. Some like Simone Biles this year in gymnastics. Yep. She's the greatest ever.
Starting point is 00:50:27 So I'll probably want to make sure I watch her when she's doing her thing. Yeah, hopefully a lot of Kentucky fans tune in for Sidney McGlockham, though. I have a feeling she'll be one of the main stories of this Olympics. Simone Biles and Sidney McLaughlin are the face of the women's U.S. Olympic team, it seems like. You see them in all the commercials. And Bam and the guys played well in another exhibition game. Bam had a really good game.
Starting point is 00:50:47 I'm looking forward to see what they do when they go up against the world and the real thing. Every time I see a box score, it's Anthony Davis and Bam out of Bio. Davis had six blocks. last night in the game so still doing exhibition games but two more of those and then we go on to the actual games Davis needs to be the starting center Joe Bede all you guys I love you but Davis has been proven he's he's ready to play in this one so a big shout out big thanks to the John A elder law office Johnny Rocker call the Rocker for free consultation or visit John A.elderlaw.com
