Welcome in to the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's postgame show.
I am Drew Franklin in downtown Lexington.
It is after midnight.
And we all just watched Kentucky lose a fourth straight game to South Carolina,
losing 35 to 10 down in Columbia.
an absolute embarrassing performance by the Wildcats
in a game they needed to win to get some life back in the season.
I'm here with Billy Routledge.
Billy, I'm hosting this show for the first time.
Lucky me.
Couldn't get Eastern Michigan.
Couldn't get Toledo.
Matt leaves town goes to South Africa.
Assigns me South Carolina game.
I think, yeah, you know what, that'll be fine.
What could possibly go wrong?
35 to 10 could go wrong.
And I have a feeling a lot of people are going to want to talk about the future of the program.
I will say tonight's game,
started off all right.
Scored early, 65-yard drive on the opening drive.
Seth McGowan ran a 20-yard TD in to go up 70.
We're feeling good.
Kat's got a little momentum.
We're dreaming dreams.
And it all went downhill from there.
Four turnovers in the second quarter, including back-to-back defensive scores.
A complete meltdown.
Kentucky had three points in three quarters after completely losing the wheels on everything in that second quarter, Billy Rettage.
starting the game.
I actually fumbled a little bit.
Tennessee, Mississippi State goes long.
I am struggling with the app.
I completely missed that opening drive.
Missed the McGowan touchdown.
I'll log on just in time to see South Carolina score.
I should have just gone to bed.
Should not have seen what happened after that point because it was completely ugly.
You missed the only good part of the game, Drew.
It's good to see you.
I'm sorry it's under these circumstances.
It's normally Ryan that gets the post game after a bad log.
But your debut being another loss to South Carolina is not the best place to start.
Not at all.
I should have just gone to bed.
And speaking of putting something to bed, I'm sure a lot of you all are going to have thoughts on Mark Stoops tonight.
If Twitter is any indication or any of the messages I'm getting or anything online on KS board,
it is not pleasant around Mark Stoops after the cats lose.
What is that?
14 out of 16 SEC games now, Billy.
I think it's like 13 out of five power four games.
Yikes.
I know it's, what is it, seven straight conference games now and one and 11 in their last 12.
Yeah, I mean, we could do this all night.
Ugh.
He hadn't scored two offensive touchdowns in any of their 10 SEC games under Bush Hamden.
Just an ugly night in Cutter Bowley's first start.
He did not look good, had the two interceptions in that second half meltdown.
On that first one, Billy, he gets sacked by Dylan Stewart.
You fumble, you think you're just going to take the big loss.
Pete cannot fall on the football.
How do you not fall on the football there, Pete?
Real it in.
It hits his belly, pops out to the side.
Next thing you know, South Carolina is going the other way for a touchdown.
You get the ball back and what do you know?
A tipped interception going the other way.
That was night night, 14 straight points from South Carolina.
It was all downhill from there.
Two touchdowns in 45 seconds for the Gamecocks.
And actually four complete turnovers in the second quarter for Kentucky.
If you count the fumble at the end, it was a disaster.
and you wanted to see Kentucky respond, right?
Well, only 91 yards after the first two drives in that game.
So it was not Mark Stoops or the offense's best night tonight.
Well, we want to hear your comments on the game.
859-280-2-8-7.
I'm guessing there's probably already people calling in Billy.
We also want to hear what you think about Mark Stoops
and what the future looks like there.
What can Kentucky do?
We all know that he has the leverage in that favorable contract he was given by Mitch Barnhart.
It's like a top 10 salary and football.
football. He's owed, what, like 38 million if you were to fire him any time soon.
I think that's the buyout. Yeah, it's doing 60 days. I don't know how you get that deal,
but even if you were to do it, what do you, hand it off to Brad White. But I'm sure a lot of you all have
thoughts on that. It was a big disappointment tonight. He really needed to beat either Ole Miss two
weeks ago or South Carolina to have a shot at getting things back on track and getting back
to a bowl game this season. We all know what the schedule looks like from here. Georgia, Tennessee,
Texas, then you go to Auburn, maybe Florida is something. But that point,
who knows.
But tonight, even though it was on the road,
it was one of the games that you really thought could be winnable
to get things back on track.
Yeah, that's what I was going to say.
I mean, when you look at the schedule ahead,
this was the vulnerable SEC team that you needed to take advantage of,
possibly steal one on the road.
And it's the worst that it's Shane Beamer celebrating.
I mean, ever since Stoops talked about the dances and the sunglasses,
it's not been a good record against the Gamecox.
You have the seven out of eight from 2014 to 2021 or whatever,
but now a loss four straight.
I mean, if we can look at Vandy, we can now say Kentucky is unequipped.
It's 16th in the conference.
Mississippi State looked good today, took Tennessee down to the wire.
Kentucky was rolling there for a while, but we have absolutely fallen to the absolute bottom of the conference, inexcusable, can't win a conference game.
I don't really have an SEC capable quarterback right now.
Bowley on the road didn't have it.
Some people there even mentioned that one point, Bo Allen and Zach Calzata were throwing it around.
never really came in the game.
But you're now 2-0-2 in the conference.
You got no QB.
The run game actually looked good tonight.
If there's a bright spot, we mentioned McGowan early on with that game.
He ended up with 112 yards, two touchdowns.
He's averaged about six per carry.
He has seven touchdowns this season, Billy.
That ties Benny Snell for the most to start a season at this point.
So he looked good, but other than that, no help whatsoever.
Yeah, and normally Brad White's defense has not been good this year.
They ranked 16th out of 16th in total defense in the SEC this year,
averaging or giving up 400 yards a game.
I mean, it's just not been Mark Stoops football this year or the last couple years.
They got a big sack on Sellers.
That looked nice.
Other than that, he had about 100 rushing yards,
including one play in the third quarter where it felt like he broke five tackles in the backfield,
goes for 20 yards in a first down.
Sellers didn't throw a touchdown, but 11 for 14, 150 passing yards,
the 100 rushing.
you know, he's he's one of the best
quarterbacks in college football.
Hadn't had a lot of help this season.
But for the first time, South Carolina scored three offensive touchdowns
on Kentucky's defense.
So you got that going for him too.
Hey, at least the punt returner.
He didn't have a touchdown.
You got that going for you.
There's another highlight.
Glad we can give them some momentum to build on.
It's just ridiculous.
Where are you at now, Drew?
I mean, they showed no life in the second half.
It's just demoralizing.
You want to see some progress being made,
but it seems like there was none.
I picked South Carolina to win,
but I thought Kentucky would be in it at the very end.
I thought we'd have another close game.
You know, one of those, as Luckett said on the pregame show,
first to 17 wins.
I did not have, you know, 35 to 13 or whatever.
It ended up being just an absolute disappointment.
And we want to hear from you all all about it.
I know it's lightened up.
859-28027.
It's after midnight.
We'll let you talk.
Billy and I will keep giving our thoughts.
We're in downtown Lexington,
staring out over these beautiful cities from the beautiful city from the eighth floor.
Does this window open, Billy?
It doesn't.
good. That's good because not in a great mood tonight.
But we want to hear from you all. We'll take a quick break and get to the phone lines.
859-2-80-2287.
This is Drew and Billy on the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's Post-Game Show after Kentucky's embarrassing loss to South Carolina.
Welcome back in to the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's post-game show.
Drew Franklin and Billy Rutledge, downtown Lexington, and after midnight after Kentucky loses 35 to 10 to South Carolina in a very disappointing outcome for Cutter Bowley's first career.
road start. I mean, Billy,
just how does he not fall on the ball? How does
Pete not just fall on it? You punt
and you're still in it. Completely
changed the game. Yeah, it was right
there. I don't know. Just pick it up. I don't know.
Pete seems like he's doing a good job for the most part,
but that was a big miss.
Does your opinion on Cutter change at all, or
is this a tough place for a
freshman to start?
I was hoping he would look better, obviously,
but he was also, the offensive line
didn't do any favors. What was he? Sacks six times.
Six times through two interceptions.
two fumbles.
Pressured all night.
I mean, he didn't look good,
but one of the interceptions was tipped.
I'm not putting all of this game on him.
It was just all systems failure
outside of McGowan looking pretty good.
Let's just go ahead and get the phone line
and see what some of our callers have to say.
Who's up first?
Zane is up first.
Zane, you're leading off.
What do you got for us?
Hey, Drew.
How are you?
Tired and disappointed in the cats,
but we're here having fun.
Yeah, man, I feel you.
So I've just got a couple things.
One, I've lost all hope in this program.
I'm speechless about stoops.
I never thought it would come to this.
I love stoops.
He's done awesome things, but we've got to fire him.
He's got to go.
Two, Jagger Burton, it's awful.
He's, he was, why two sacks happened.
And then Jordan Love it.
have to have a better safety than Jordan
love it. And I'll hang up and
let you talk about that.
All right. Thank you. Appreciate the call.
Not a good night for the two Kentucky boys.
We've seen those names.
Planned for Kentucky for a long time. Needed both
of them to make a big jump this season.
It looked all right in the early games,
but not good tonight for either one of them. Jagger
especially. He was a big part of the
offensive line problems as they were just getting
after Burton. I mean, South
Carolina's got a pretty good front, but they're
banged up. Dylan Stewart's a generational talent.
But other than that, the line still should have been much better than they were tonight.
They just got absolutely shredded.
Yeah, and South Carolina's line is banged up.
So you would hope Kentucky was able to take advantage of that a little bit,
but gave up 35 points and Lenora Sellers was able to do pretty much whatever he wanted.
The stat about Kentucky not scoring more than two touchdowns
in any of their SEC games under Bush Hamden, that's pretty bad.
A little depressing.
I mean, we knew it was going to be low scoring.
You had to, you know, hold South Carolina some three and outs,
forcing turnovers.
You didn't get that.
But this offense just is not showing any signs of life.
Well, there was a good play call on a, was it fourth down,
third or fourth down early in the game.
Rodriguez goes for 53 yards.
But, I mean, some questionable stuff.
They did a double reverse.
Yeah, what was that?
First down.
Like, let's just get two or three yards and make it easier for our guys to get a third down.
I thought got a little reckless at the end of the first half with the laterals.
That's a little risky at that point because at any moment could have been
another South Carolina non-offensive touchdown.
That was wild doing the first half.
Who's up next?
Let's go to Matthew.
Matthew, what's up?
Hey, fellas.
I just want to, I'm in Columbia right now,
trying to find an Uber home from the stadium,
but beyond disappointed in the play call that I saw tonight.
I mean, I don't understand why Bush Hamden,
the double reverse, not running the ball enough,
we had two turnovers tonight that made absolutely zero sense.
Took us out of the game.
Took us out of the game.
We had a chance to actually, like, be competitive and win.
When we were up 10-7, I thought, oh, there's zero chance Kentucky's going to fumble this.
And sure enough, we have a bad fumble, and then we have a, I mean, that pick six was awful, too.
I mean, the old analogy of if it hit you in the hands, you're supposed to catch it.
But it hit Kendrick Law on the hand.
But obviously we know that ball was not even catchable.
It was just disappointing, to say the least, because all of us have so much faith in Kentucky.
I mean, this football program, it can go places, but it's not going where we need it to go.
That's all I got for you, fellas.
I appreciate your time.
We appreciate the call.
yeah we've now brought up that reverse a couple times there's been some plays so far the season that
really angered a lot of fans you can go back to taking the safety against Toledo
whatever that the reaction in the end yeah with cutter that fake pitch on fourth down a couple weeks ago
and then tonight you have a third and five and you do that little handoff to Gilmore you're in
scoring position end up making the 42 yard field goal but it's like they were playing for field goal
and weren't even trying to score there when you need to get aggressive so another night of
frustrating play calling. You know, Corey Price
is a great job, but after losses,
there are some demoralizing stats that he can
highlight, and one of them was this is Kentucky's
longest SEC losing streak
since September of 22nd of
2012 to September 13th of 2014.
We've literally gone back
to the beginning of the Stoops era with the
amount of games that they're losing in the SEC at this point.
I remember sitting way at the top,
Team Patrick section, I think,
232, something like that
at the top of Kroger Field of that Vandy game
when we knew it was over and the bleachers were
completely empty. This doesn't feel like that, but it's starting to feel pretty close.
And I think those bleachers might be pretty empty next time Kentucky comes around coming back home.
You know, we go to Georgia next week. Got that going for it.
Georgia coming off a loss, Billy. That's exciting.
Then Texas. Oh, yeah. Right.
That's fun. Who's next on the phone line?
E money is next.
E money. Nice name. What's up?
Hey, Drew. It's E money here.
You know what? I'm not going to sit here and talk about how much money the craft
spent on this offensive line and how much money we spent on Shiaz's fate.
Six, six, seven, three hundred and fifty pounds can't fall on the ball.
But Kurt, boy, he looked scared.
He did.
We appreciate the call.
I thought he looked comfortable when he came in and Krogerfield even said that several
times.
How oddly, even though he's the second year guy, he looked to be a little more composed
than Zach Kalsata, but the, uh, the rooster crows.
and the 80,000 under the lights at Williams-Brice
got to him and many others tonight.
Right, everybody's got a plan until they get punched in the mouth
or you get punched in the tailgate lot after the game.
Like our pal Ryan Lemon, it felt like Cutter got punched pretty early in that game
and really never recovered, which is strange because, you know,
we heard all about Cutter making strides in training camp
and being comfortable in the offense, but that's a tough environment for the kid.
Mark Stoops didn't get punched, but he did trip over a yardage marker before the half.
Saw that.
In real time, I thought he got hit.
I was worried about, you know, some injury, but then they slow it down and he actually tripped getting out of the way from getting hit.
But he bounced right back up.
Bit of a stumble.
McGowan launched a football at a South Carolina fan right after the first touchdown.
Did you happen to see that?
I did.
I think the fan might have given the shot to bird back McGowan's way.
Caught that on TV.
There's a big fight over the ball, too.
I mean, I guess Kentucky was trying to get their ball back after McGowan chucked it at the guy.
But I don't know.
Somebody's got to ask him what he was thinking.
Kentucky was trying to get the ball?
Yeah, Kentucky was trying to get their ball back, kind of like Louisville earlier today, if you saw that highlight.
Well, you know, touchdowns are so hard to come by when you get one.
I guess you got to commemorate it.
They might paint that ball up and put it up in the office.
Where's my bell I'd ring it for you.
Who's up next?
Pathew is up next.
Pathew, all right.
That's new.
What's up?
Gentlemen, I just can't help but feel hopeless and dejected for our program right now.
Look, I know SEC football is a different animal, and I really hate making comparisons from
you know, Kentucky football to basketball, but it just seems like this football regime has
become so similar to the last few years with Cal, you know, Vince Merrill being the Robich
or Payne to Stoops. And I just feel so apathetic towards our program right now. I just want to
get your guys thoughts on where do you think we can go? Obviously, we know the financials.
We cannot fire Stoops. We can't afford that. Where do we just go from here? I'm going to hang
up with your response there. Thank you. I appreciate the call. I agree with the basketball
comparison.
Usually try not to do that, but it does have that same feeling.
Even this offseason where he kind of went quiet, didn't want to make headlines.
Remember, Cal was real G's moving silence like lasagna.
A little light.
Yeah, I remember I'm not doing the media this summer.
We're so good.
I'm staying quiet.
Kind of felt like we had a little of that from Stoops this off season.
Didn't want to make a headline, yeah.
Now the apathy's setting in.
You're not winning games.
You should win.
The only difference is basketball, just by the nature of the sport.
you get the tournament where like an Oakland can happen.
You know, football, you don't get that clear, this is it.
But losing this many SEC games is getting pretty close to an Oakland or a St. Peters.
He'll never have that exact, you know, it ends moment to a, you know, 15 seed.
Basketball is set it and it's not set up that way.
But when you can't win an SEC game, that's getting to be just as bad.
Yeah, and I'm sure Stoops would love aerobic.
I don't know if you put Liam Cohen in that role,
but he's been trying to find an offensive coordinator to stick.
And Bush Hamden just doesn't say.
seem to be the right guy. But, you know, what does Mitch do? This is the all-time winningest coach
in Kentucky football history. The $38 million buyout doesn't seem like he's rushing to get
rid of the guy at this point, right? Well, we know he's not quick to fire anyone. And even he said
this is a one-year blip. It is not a one-year blip. We're all seeing that. There are people
on the scene that said Mitch didn't look very happy over on the sideline tonight. I mean,
I can't imagine he would be happy. You know, Mitch gets into these games just as much as anyone.
but he does have a mess on his hands because I think we can all agree.
There's not much hope in the program.
I mean, maybe Stoop surprises us somewhere,
but if we're all being honest,
it does not look like this season is going to end well whatsoever.
Yeah, and you mentioned apathy.
Matt's talked about that before.
It feels like people are going to start turning the page to basketball here pretty soon.
What, Big Blue Manus?
What, two weeks away?
Yeah, it's right around the corner.
Jared Lorenzen used to hate it when this would happen.
He would say people would just flip the switch.
I'm afraid that'll be coming up.
Let's get another call
for we take a break.
Yeah, Jerry's next.
Jerry, how about it?
Oh, yeah, thank taking my call, but I think it's time to move on from us, too.
He's just, he should never buy the office coordinator back,
and then right now it's just in disarray.
And I love my football, but, man, it's just time to move on.
Jesus Christ, we're a vampire batting this year.
We're not going to win the SEC game.
And that just kills me, man.
because, you know, you got Vanderbilt doing what they're doing,
and right now we cannot, we cannot get out of our own way.
I mean, seriously.
I mean, I love Carderbody, man, but evidently, man, he's just not the answer.
I mean, God bless his soul, but what we're going to do, I mean, Drew, just tell me.
I mean, we got to move on.
I mean.
You're doing it right now?
Are you waiting any longer?
Are you doing it right now?
No, yeah, no.
I think he's shepard right.
now.
I think you should move right now.
God bless the soul.
I think right now you've got to fire him like Oklahoma State Divagndi.
You've got to move on.
And to right, take the team over and next year maybe bringing in the Dup, Tulane, whoever,
but this football team right now is just in disarray.
Do you know that?
You should watch the same game.
It's horrible, man.
It is.
I appreciate the call.
I don't disagree.
I mean, the numbers are bad.
We could sit here and read these ugly stats all night long.
Culture hadn't gotten much better.
I mean, you've got a player of court cases right now.
Schedule's not getting any easier.
Doesn't look like you have a quarterback that's ready to win any SEC games this year.
But Louisville down a little bit today, they came back one.
They're undefeated.
You're going to go win at Louisville the end of the year in the Governor's Cup?
I mean, do we just count down to Tennessee Tech in November?
Is that the one we circle on the calendar?
Yeah, I didn't think about it until Jerry had just said it.
they're not going to win an SEC game this year?
I mean, what's the best chance?
I would say Vandy, but they're ranked.
Florida at home probably.
Florida? But you got to keep your team together to get to Florida.
That's in November.
I mean, it could get a lot of ugly between now.
I'm not for firing coaches mid-season.
I don't think that accomplishes a lot.
But, I mean, the way Jerry put it,
what game are they going to win in the SEC after performing like that?
After not winning one last year.
Well, they beat Ole Miss.
Excuse me, yeah, home games.
But yeah, I mean, it's just, I don't want to put this loss on Cutter, though.
Like, that's what I was a little afraid of when it comes to throwing a guy out there in a hostile environment,
but he did not look good by any way.
He did not.
But it was never supposed to be cutter this season at all.
You went and got Zach Calada so that Cutter could be next year.
You know, not completely defending Cutter here, but he's not even supposed to be in the spot
because you went out and got a quarterback that's supposed to be one.
It's supposed to be a year away anyway.
Well, this is fun, Billy.
I'm having a lot of fun tonight.
Let's take one more, and we'll take another break here.
Let's get another one here.
We'll talk a few viral moments to.
try to smile a little bit, even though it's hard to smile right now.
Will is next.
Will, what's up?
What's going on, guys?
You know, here's the thing.
I mean, you know, whether Cutter is supposed to be in that or not, let's be honest,
Calzot is not any better.
It's got to be all on Stoops, and I try to put myself in Mitch's shoes.
I mean, he's got the hardest decision to make here ever, because I know him and Stoops are boys,
but let's be honest, we could talk all night long about all these terrible statistics
that are around Kentucky football and Stoops,
and something has got to be done
because, listen, I'm friends with a lot of Louisville fans,
and we are just the complete laughing stock of football,
and nothing changes year after year.
You know, Stoops, we give him another chance.
He says, oh, we've got to get back to work.
We've got to get back to work and practice all these things.
Nothing ever changes, and as Kentucky fan,
I can speak for the whole fan base,
and I know you guys as well,
it is so old.
Something has to change.
Thanks, boys.
All right.
Appreciate the call.
An update on the ball.
I'm seeing online that Lenora Sellers said that McGowan hit his grandfather with the ball.
Of all people to hit, we're hitting Lenores and Sellers' grandfather.
And I took that personally.
Yeah, I'm seeing pictures.
They gave his grandmother the game ball because we hit him.
Of all the people in the stadium, I don't feel like we should be hitting people's grandparents.
Outscored 35 to 6 after that play?
Oh, just added to the list.
Well, we'll have more fun like this talking about Kentucky's loss to South Carolina, 35 to 10.
It was an opportunity to get a win.
13.
Don't short change them.
3513.
Oh, I keep saying 10.
Yeah, whatever.
3513.
That makes it much better.
An opportunity you had to get a win to try to get back on track, try to head to a bowl game,
and you completely lose it all in the second quarter with the turnovers.
We'll come back after this break.
We want to hear from you, 859, 280, 2, 287.
It's Drew and Billy up late.
on the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's Postgame show.
We're right back.
Welcome back in to the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's Postgame show,
also known as group therapy for Big Blue Nation,
as we're all up late after Kentucky loses 35 to 13.
I kept saying 10, Billy.
That was rude of me taking away three points from Kentucky.
I apologize.
I did that a few times throughout the show,
but it's late, and I'm just as upset as anyone else.
But I do apologize.
Got to get the final score, right?
That's like the bare minimum of this job.
No, I understand.
I understand.
There wasn't a lot to enjoy about that game.
I don't get to listen to the TV broadcast, though.
Did Tom Hart say anything interesting or funny?
You walked right into my next topic.
First of all, shout out to the kicker.
We still have kickers and punters.
They had another big game.
That's another thing.
You mentioned we're going back to 2012 with that streak.
We're also going back to Kentucky just being known for good kicking and good putting.
That's kind of where we go.
Everything else is a mess, but we can boom the ball.
Tom Hart, yes.
He at least kept us entertained.
I was trying to keep up with the references.
I had heard there would be a lot dialed up for this game
because it had been a while since we've heard Tom Hart.
But right away, I heard him say something about pump and shop.
Shout out to Clark's.
That was intentional.
He said Kentucky was up by three biggins.
Love that for our guy, John.
He said something about a safari and seeing penguins.
I assume that was related to Matt in South Africa.
There was getting sucker punched outside the stadium comment.
He even got the sucker punched him.
I mean, my man was on fire.
I love that.
Not to tell on him, but maybe he asked for any requests.
Let's just say maybe that happened hypothetically.
And I said, my guy, Mani used to always say, you can't do that after penalties.
So there was a flag.
And I heard a you can't do that.
So KSR listeners got the full Tom Hart experience tonight as the game was just being absolutely miserable otherwise.
Well, that's funny to hear.
You know, broadcasters have to flip that switch in a blowout and just kind of grubes.
asked for notes and Tom's notes were to text through and ask.
Maybe. I didn't say he was texting during the game. I said if he were to text
during the game. They are the best though. We have our Tom connection. I know Cole a little bit,
don't really know Jordan, but just objectively leave aside the KSR sings. They call a good game.
They somehow, they couldn't really polish this one up very well for me, but typically I love having
them on a call. I'll give you one funny thing while we're talking TV. So the game had to start on
ESPN News because Tennessee and everything. And
they switched it over, but if you weren't paying attention, it just switched over to pillow fighting
on ESPN news. And I happen to think that was more competitive than the game that we saw
in South Carolina tonight. I'm glad you brought that up. I thought that was my TV. I mentioned at the
beginning of the show that I missed the McGowan touchdown. I feel like I'm pretty tech savvy,
but it's like, here's your code. Go to ESPN.com slash watch and I'm throwing my remote and I finally
get it on. And it did out of nowhere. I'm looking at my computer and I'm sitting there and my wife's
Like, did you change it to pillow fighting?
I look up and I'm like, I've lost my mother.
How did this happen?
So that wasn't, that was everybody and everybody problem.
Yeah.
Just add it to the list of whatever the hell was going on early in the game before it really fell apart.
Maybe I should have left it on the professional pillow fighting.
We should have left it on it.
All right.
Let's get some more calls in.
Dale is up next.
Dale, what's up?
I got a question for you at the end, but me and you, we're going to fix Kentucky football in 90 seconds.
You ready?
Let's do this.
You got it.
All right.
You can put the timer on, Billy.
Let's roll.
Right now.
Set the timer.
I'm going to interrupt you at 90.
Here we go.
Go.
Number one, if I miss Barnhart,
I don't let Mark Stoops get on that plane to fly back to Lexington.
You'll get yourself a Hertz rental car and you drive back from Columbia to Lexington.
You drive your ass back, Mars Stoops.
Number two, make Brad White the interim coach.
If he does a good job, you hire him.
If not, guess who would love the coach in the SEC?
Mr. John Gruden.
I'm not a big summer offhand and I'm not getting on that bandwagon,
but let's give Brad White a shot.
Mark Stoops, your time is done.
And then as long as Brad White agrees,
the fire Bush Hampton is the OC.
Hey, you already got Eddie Grant on staff.
He's been an proven offensive coordinator.
How could it get worse?
Let Eddie Green run the offense.
You know, he did everything good with Lynn Bowden, right?
Perfect.
You got to figure it out.
One thing I got, one thing I got.
one thing I got to ask you, Drew,
how about Madisonville North Hopkins
6 and 0 baby?
Can they finish out the season undefeated?
And I'll hang up and listen for your answer.
Beautiful.
That was exactly one minute.
You had 30 more seconds to fix UK football,
but it sounds like you've already thought that out.
And thank you for shouting out my Madisonville Maroons.
Billy, look, this is the first time I've smiled
since I finally got the game on from the professional pillow fighting earlier.
So thank you for bringing a smile to my face with that contribution to the show
because the maroons are hot.
You didn't smile during the Ryder Cup today or the Titans game tomorrow?
Oh, yes, I get to watch my O-N-3 Titans tomorrow.
And then after that, we get to watch my wife's Dallas Cowboys.
I just got inside and start kicking trees, just to add more pain.
So his way to fix Kentucky football was to fire Stoops, make Brad White the interim and make Eddie Gran offensive coordinator again?
I think he wants Brad White to fire Bush Hamden.
Let's put it all on Brad White, and then he wants Eddie Grant.
Yeah, I don't know.
He's thought about it.
Let's get another call in and see if they have solutions.
About Joe and Bama.
Joe and Bama.
Big win for Bama today.
What's up, Joe?
Yeah, hey, Drew.
Just a couple of things, man.
You know, living in Alabama for the last 15 years,
there's a different kind of football when you watch it on the multi-view on YouTube.
When you're watching Alabama, Georgia,
and you watch Kentucky, South Carolina side by side,
it almost went minute for minute for the game to halftime to everything.
That's a whole different kind of football.
I realize that we don't have the same players.
I realize that we are getting into the room of apathy here.
But I think the last caller's right.
If you want to keep any attention on this football team for the rest of this year,
you've got to make a change now.
And it has to start with the offensive coordinator and the head coach.
I know there's people out there that can coach differently.
I just think that the coaching staff now with the money that they're making is not hungry.
They're kind of done.
everybody's rumored that Mark's going to retire early.
You know what?
Just let it happen.
I don't know about John Gruden.
I think that's a pie in the sky wish.
But I know there's a coach out there that can bring this team some fire like Mark Stoops did 15 years ago.
But if you want the fans to stick with it now, what I saw on the television has a change.
It's regardless of the players.
It's regardless of the play calling.
You cannot run sideline to sideline and expect to go to the end zone.
You've got to go north and south and stop.
this side to side, flip the ball backwards, and try to throw for a seven-yard completion,
and then overthrow the tight end. It just is monotonous. I had season tickets when Bill
Curry was there, and I thought then it was going to be better, but it has done nothing.
So, you know, the football job is probably like the basketball job. You got a 10-year window.
You need to get it done and get out of the way.
All right. We appreciate the call.
Billy, I think people are a little fired up.
Well, I agree about the John Gordon. That's probably a little extreme.
Probably a big wish.
But, I mean, teams like Indiana and Mississippi State should show you that it can be rebuilt in a year.
With the transfer portal, you can make a competitive team.
It shouldn't take a decade any longer.
So that's another thing that works against Stoops here.
And it's, what, you're 13 and some of it's just like operational.
Like you're the longest tenured coach in the conference.
Why can't we get a play?
Why are we burning timeouts before punts and extra points?
Oh, this is fun.
This is fun show.
Is it always like this?
It's not always like this.
I don't see,
I don't get to hear the post game show usually.
I'm still at the press box.
So I'm not hip to all these callers.
These are like new people to me.
I know there's like stories you hate kids or something.
Is that a thing?
Well, you know, the kids aren't usually up this late.
So that's maybe the good thing about these night games, Drew.
But we've heard this from the collars a little bit this year already,
kind of waiting for the word that's been used tonight,
apathy.
to set in when Kentucky plays
tougher games, but
South Carolina was winnable. This was a team that
got blown out by Vandy, lost to Missouri,
not playing well, a bad
defense, and Kentucky just wasn't able
to take advantage.
38 million, it's a lot of money, or whatever
it is, 38-ish. Is it really that much
money anymore? It's like 75%
of whatever's left, whatever
that exact number is, due in 60 days.
I mean, he was about...
That's not in the ATM, right? Just put
your pen in and pull that out. You have
come to some kind of agreement. At some point, if it truly keeps going this direction,
Stoop's got to consider his own legacy, and maybe even he will sit down at the table and work
something else. That was going to be my next question. I mean, Rich Brooks once said that Mark Stoop
should have a statue here at Kentucky. I mean, do you feel the same way after the final four,
the last four years of the group? There is a YouTube video of me going around Krogerfield
talking about a Mark Stub statue four or five years ago. So, I mean, I can't say that's
crazy for Rich Brooks. I was going around asking people too.
My how times change.
Yeah.
Let's get another call.
Austin is next.
Austin, what's up?
Hey, men, gentlemen.
First off, Billy comes to my first point about Indiana, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, all them are.
I think you can say that Mark Stoops is the only one who can be a coach Kentucky and have success if all these smaller schools like us are top 25 and doing pretty well.
Number two, kind of the biggest point I guess I wanted to make is I know his biosephibank.
I think he also said 38 million.
And for a while, you'd say agree that that's probably not attainable.
However, this week I got a email, shout out Mitch Barnhart for the emails,
an email that they asked for advice for a $34 million stadium renovation coming up.
So I guess my question is, if his buyout so unattainable,
how do we have the money for a $34 million renovation for kind of small stuff?
off like stadium atmosphere.
I feel like winning is the best way to fix the stadium atmosphere.
So yeah, that's my question.
Can you guys kind of explain why we have that money if we can't afford a buyout?
Hang up and listen.
All right.
Appreciate the call.
Thanks, Austin.
Guess the answer there.
There's a big difference in building new infrastructure and adding experiences that will
last several years and then just handing you got money to go away.
Yeah, then you still got a higher coach.
Like, hey, you haven't done a great job.
here's all the money we have for you to just leave.
Just to leave.
That's a tough check to write.
Then you still got to pay for a new coach and coaching staff.
And then you don't have the renovations to your stadium that you're hoping to make an entertainment district out of over the next five to 10 years.
At some point, there is an equation.
I'm not the one to do the math on it.
But you have to weigh in what you will lose if people truly stop showing up like they're threatening to and probably will if this doesn't look better, especially at home.
they're lucky people have been engaged as they have been with the home losing streak for what it takes to go to a game anymore.
I think the crowds have been pretty good this season so far.
I know it's been two non-conference games and just Ole Miss.
But if you go down to Georgia and get whoop next week gets pretty ugly after that.
I wonder what the crowd will look like.
We know it'll mostly be burnt orange and orange for the Tennessee and Texas games.
And the season ticket holders were already paying more for less home games and fewer tailgating spots.
and just not good timing with all that stuff with the year ahead.
Got to consider what you'll lose.
Let's get another call in.
Justin.
Justin, thanks for calling in.
Hey, thank you guys for taking my call.
I appreciate it.
I was actually at the game tonight,
and really the two points that I just want to make is like,
you know, I'm super appreciative of, you know, what suits has done here.
And, yeah, I don't know if you fire a mid-season.
I don't think that's great, just with a huge buyout.
But, you know, I think it's time to move on.
at the end of the season and um you know again like the guy that i guess two 10 win seasons here like
hasn't been done you know like like drew said at the beginning of the show like i was and the
the empty bleachers that oh oh 40 lost to vanderbilt whatever it was 13 14 years ago um you know and
the second point i want to make is like you know at the game tonight like i i feel like it's pretty
tone deaf for the you know for uk athletics to send out that survey to take a season season
ticket holders of like, hey, like, what can we do, like, entertainment district and all this, like,
restaurants and, like, like, in Columbia tonight, like, there's 85, 90,000 fans for a team that's
0 and 2 in the SEC, and they're going nuts, you know, for their football team and, like,
students are around the lower bowl and, like, it's an unreal atmosphere. So, like, you know,
like, it would be great to have Kroger Field like that, but I just, I don't know, like, I don't know,
like, I don't know if we'll ever get to that point. So, you know, just really frustrated.
Again, appreciative of what Stoops has done. But, you know, at the end of the year, I think it's
time to move on. But, yeah, it's just, it's going to be a tough bill for it's all year.
Not that it matters, but how did, how was the Kentucky crowd tonight? Did we have a decent
showing for that debacle? Yeah. No, yeah. You know, after the first quarter, like, our
section was buzzing, you know, like, we were right behind the band and, like, I'd look up.
felt like the whole section or two or three sections that we were around was like full of
Kentucky blue and that's that was crazy like we go up 10 to 7 up end of the first quarter and like
we're running the ball really well and that was everybody was like it was feeling really good and then
second quarter happens and you know it feels like for some reason we felt like cutter needed
to do like some sort of air raid type thing instead of just trying to ground and pound you know like
what Eddie grand might have done or something you know um but I you know I thought the crowd
was for UK at least.
I thought there was a ton of buzz around and optimism and that lasted 15 minutes, you know,
and second quarter happened and it just kind of went downhill from there.
And so, you know, I'm not frustrated with the, you know, student athletes or cutter or anything
like that like you guys have mentioned.
But I don't know why we didn't just try to keep running the ball.
You know, I thought we could have kept doing that until at least, I don't know,
the third, fourth quarter because we looked really impressive on that first drive, second drive,
you know um but yeah i think it's you know it is what it is all right well we appreciate the call
glad you survived williams brice aside from the from the game haven't heard any reports of
any sucker punching or anything down there billy so far so good on that but the night is young
uh mentioned missing the first drive that when we look so good yeah because i was fighting with
my tv trying to put in that dang code to make you use your phone for you know the QR on the
it was it was a whole thing and then you end up watching the pillow fighting
as we've discussed. So I text
Nick Rausch, who's down there. And I was like, hey,
saw we scored, but I completely missed everything.
And he just sends back in like all caps. Kentucky
ran it all over their faces. So I get excited. Like, maybe we have
something in that second quarter.
Four turnovers in one quarter. That's impressive work.
It is. You got to really want it to turn it over four times
in one quarter, one quarter.
It is. You're right. But let's take that second quarter completely away.
Kentucky still loses this game 14 to 13, I believe.
So all that's made,
about the momentum and what happened in the second quarter,
Kentucky still got beat in the rest of the game.
And if you were looking for any response when they came out of the halftime,
what do they do?
They go.
Actually, they didn't.
South Carolina didn't score in the third quarter.
Had a little defense show up there.
I'm glad they showed up because we needed them more,
especially in that first half.
But yeah, they go like punt.
They go 11 yards and kick a field goal because they were able to get that fake punt
didn't convert.
And then there was like immediately three and out again.
Not what you want to see.
Does they even throw to Josh Katas at all?
I was expecting a big game out of him.
See, I make that game day graphic that goes up in the morning,
so I pick who the player is going to be.
I put Katas on there thinking big Katas game.
Didn't see much.
I don't know if he was targeted.
I think Willie led the team in receiving.
Two catches, 66 yards.
Law had five catches.
That's because three of them were jet sweeps.
Yes.
That's what we do to get.
And even on the big game to Rodriguez,
that was the, let's just lateral it around and get goofy before halftime.
Yeah, yeah, and I feel bad for a guy like Jemori Macklin, right?
Somebody that kind of broke out at the end of last year after we wanted or we expected a lot more from him.
And then maybe he comes into this year thinking that that's more coming and it's more of the same.
It probably wouldn't have mattered, but he should have had a touchdown.
He got open.
He broke free and bullied just missed him about a yard over through him there late,
but not that that would have mattered in the 35 to 13 finish, not 10.
But we'll take a break.
We want here for more of you.
859-2-80-2-8-7 got some people on hold
when you get your thoughts on the game
and what's next for Kentucky.
This is Drew and Billy on the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's post-game show.
All right, welcome back.
Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's Post-game show.
One last segment here, Drew Franklin, filling in for Matt Jones
while he's off riding zebras and playing Jumanji down there in South Africa.
Ryan Lemon, what?
He's probably asleep.
It's 1 a.m. right?
So they got me hosting the show, Billy.
Yeah, what are we doing after this, Drew?
Are we hitting a couple bars?
No.
I'm going to bed.
I'm worn out.
Absolutely worn out, especially after that damn game.
If they had maybe one, might have seen what downtown has in store late, but no.
Straight to bed after this for me.
But we have more calls to get to more disappointed fans to hear from.
So let's just get right to it.
Yeah, let's go to Ethan.
Ethan, what's up?
Yeah, guys.
I'm driving back right now from Columbia.
Heading back to Corby, Kentucky.
I'm pretty disappointed to say so myself.
If I'm being real here, Cutter Bowley could have had four interceptions if they would have caught the two that they dropped.
He had two fumbles.
Bush and coached my high school team.
Mark Stoops needs fired.
Our receivers can't get open, even if I was guarding them.
McGowan is the only player on our team that's any good at all.
our kicker's pretty good.
Other than that, that's about it.
Yeah, well, appreciate the call.
Yeah, other than all that, Billy, not too bad, other than all that.
And Eric Wilford just got another raise.
Don't tease people, they'll believe it.
Be safe, heading back to Corbyn.
It's a late drive.
Appreciate you calling in.
Who's up next?
Jerry is next.
Another Jerry.
Another Jerry popular.
I just have all Jerry's.
What's up?
Second Jerry.
Hey, Jerry, you know, Matt was giving me crap about being negative.
That's because I saw this coming like a freight train.
You did.
When you look at that roster, you're bringing back the same offensive coaches
that had all that talent last year, couldn't coach him,
and now you're expecting a different result.
You bring in an offensive line coach that led to conference in sacks at allah-friken Bama
and you're surprised that they can't pass block.
Come on.
You called it, Jay.
I mean, something changed this program, something changed this program
about between the pony up and the Tech State and M thing,
and then when Liam Cohen left, something changed.
And the foul straw was Vince Leighton.
Now we're not recruiting Ohio and keeping the good kids in Kentucky anymore.
We're doing some other freaking thing that Wolfram wants to do.
And it, you know, so I haven't seen any net depressing on offense since L.U.
Zlek and Bill Curry had Tim Coucher on the option.
How many more wins you got for him, Jerry?
I don't know what to do.
How many more wins the rest of the season?
One.
I'm guessing you're going with Tennessee.
They might, I'll tell you what, the Florida game's going to come down to,
basically two lane duck coaches, and which team wants to play harder.
Yep.
But I only see one more win, and that being that wherever,
East Tennessee State.
One of those.
I mean, at this, at this point, hell, like that guy said,
let Eddie Grand run the offense.
let Drake Jackson or Bunchy Stallings coach the offensive line.
They couldn't do any worse.
That's right.
Well, we appreciate the call.
We knew Jerry'd be worked up.
Also, I think, didn't Drake Jackson at like Rhode Island or something?
Is he?
I mean, yeah, I think he's the coach at Rhode Island.
Bring him down.
Maybe he could call plays from Rhode Island.
Couldn't be much worse.
John, I'd be on the phone.
Shout out Drake Jackson, though.
He's back when they were rolling with the big blue wall.
Miss those days.
Yeah, and shout out to guys that are still in the league.
I think Landon Young's doing things with the Saints.
Can't name anymore.
Yeah, there you go.
Nailed it.
Well, who's up next?
Cody's next.
Cody, what's up?
Hey, Drew.
Long time just we talked, man.
Sorry about the manny news.
That was terrible when I heard it last week, man.
Thank you.
We lost a good one.
I mean, look, I've been on this train for a while, but like I just realized a good metaphor.
We're on the Titanic.
We're going down the ship.
And you know when the iceberg was?
It wasn't today.
It wasn't last week.
It wasn't the Louisville game last year.
It was the Louisville game in 23 where the Texas A&M reneged happened.
This thing was over after that.
It's over.
It's been over.
The timeline certainly backs you up there.
There's no arguing against your point.
It's still playing.
Yep.
We appreciate the call.
But.
Oh, we still have him?
Yeah, we do.
Sorry, carry on.
Yeah.
No, I mean, it's, I mean, today, I mean, who looks worse, Keegan Bradley or March
Stoots today?
Oh, Keegan.
Don't make me think about the Ryder Cup, too.
He threw out Moracalla in English twice.
Oh.
Number 132 out of one day to golf analytic pairing.
He did it twice.
One of those days.
But, uh, I'd feel, I'd feel him awesome.
They're more comfortable with him calling an offense and Bush and him.
Well, I appreciate the call.
It's certainly a bad day for golf fans and Kentucky fans.
And I don't like the Titanic metaphor, but you're not wrong.
And I guess, Billy, are me and you, the band that's still playing as it's going down?
You got your violin over there?
I guess.
Are we those guys?
Yeah.
Are we jumping off and trying to share a door like Jack and Rose out there as this goes down?
Which are you going to do?
Which are we?
The women and children need to be getting on the lifeboat right now.
As long as you're not painting me like one of your French girls.
Who's up next?
We got two more.
Two more.
Casey is next.
Casey, what's up?
Hey, fellas.
Good afternoon.
Oh, this Casey.
Hi, Casey.
Hey, so would you guys say I'm a big fan of Kentucky sports?
I think that's fair.
Okay.
Well, can I tell you what I did tonight?
I went to a concert because I just saw this coming from a mile away.
And I was lucky because at the concert I could actually see a TV.
and watch the whole, I don't know if I would call it lucky getting to watch all that.
But just, it was 10 to 7.
I look up and all of a sudden it's 28 to 10.
I just don't even know, like, how it went, it goes so bad, so fast.
And so I'm worried, the reason I mentioned the concert, I'm worried about the apathy
because if me, I consider myself a pretty big fan,
if I'm skipping watching games to go to a concert,
whatever is everybody else going to be doing by week 10 and week 11 when that's here
and so I think suits has to go I don't know if at during the season or it's to wait to
the end but this is just really bad but and I just dread the Louisville game already so much but
what concerts you go to I saw Haley Witters okay um he's up and coming she's at the burl she's
awesome all right that sounds fun appreciate the call Casey one of my one of the site's
joke if everybody around you think and you're the middle person you're probably the one that
sinks and i just feel like stoops is the one that's got to go so i hope you guys have a great night
i think it's time see you guys soon all right did not expect that didn't either she's trying to say
bye feller trying to get them out of here where is my skipping games for concerts geez i wish i'd
skip the game for concert think a lot of us would have we got one more is it going to be a good one
don't don't give me a bad one it's my first time hosting it's been i want to say
it's been fun. It's been something. I've been here. It's been good seeing you, Billy. It's been
an honor to have the opportunity. I apologize to everyone that I sound like my dog just died,
but I kind of feel that way. Just very disappointing the cat. It's very somber tonight.
And it's 1 a.m. Well, the real problem would be if you were super enthusiastic after this game.
So I think I think you're measured and with the right response here. But let's try to end it on a good one.
If not, maybe we'll open back up the phones. Phil is up. Phil, take us home.
Well, yeah, you just gave me tons of pressure there.
No pressure.
I'll yell, Billy, if it's not good.
I did win money tonight, unfortunately.
So I moved the line to South Carolina minus nine and a half.
Because, you know, I just knew what was coming.
But my huge hit was there was a winning by margin.
It was South Carolina to win by between 19 and 24.
So we won by 22.
So I hit that and that was huge.
That's plus 850.
Oh, nice.
Yeah, I mean, obviously I'm happy about that.
Yeah, obviously.
I mean, but I am a UK fan.
Okay, so I want us to win games.
I feel like I am the only fan that would prefer us to be a football school than a basketball school.
I want to win football.
You're probably not alone in that.
Did your big bet just, I don't want to get into your personal life,
but did it pay out anywhere near like 40 million-ish, anywhere close?
38.
Anywhere in the ballpark there, maybe get it within 60 days?
No.
Yeah, I did actually send a tweet to somebody like,
they take Venmo, $38 million?
We'll figure that one out.
Let me shop with some money around.
Congratulations on your big win tonight.
We appreciate the call.
Maybe get a little sleep there.
I want to rest up on that one.
Margin of victory, though.
That's a big hit.
Margin of victory.
That's a big hit.
I had Seth McGowan over 70 yards and Kendrick Law over 20 yards.
I got a couple hits.
Everybody loves hearing about bets, right?
You guys took the over on every single prop on the pregame show today.
Yeah.
All right.
We did well.
KSR Parlay hit.
Did the parlay hit today?
Yeah.
We've hit enough KSR parlays already.
we can go the rest of the year.
It's all house money.
Already made enough.
Mario's both of his picks hit.
Unfortunately, yeah, both Mario Parley's hit.
But unfortunately, it's hard to smile over a KSR Parley
when Kentucky goes down to South Carolina,
needing a win.
Needed to beat Ole Miss or South Carolina
to have hopes before it just turns into an absolute gauntlet next week.
But they came up short, went up big early with an early touchdown.
But then South Carolina took it the rest of the way,
especially in that second quarter with four turnovers by the cats,
two of which went back for touchdowns on back-to-back plays.
Beginning with Pete, just not falling on the ball.
Hold on to it, Pete.
But that was the story.
All downhill from there.
South Carolina's now won four straight over Kentucky,
and the road is looking dark ahead.
I guess next we're heading to Georgia,
but for now we'll sign off from here
on the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's post-game show,
Billy and I, we had fun.
We wish we had a lot more fun with a win,
but instead we're all even disappointed
with lots of questions to answer.
Good job.
Sad night.
Cats lose. Thank you, Billy. Thank you all for tuning in. Sleep tight.

Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes.
