Starting point is 00:02:52 I am like each and every one of you listening right now. You may be driving home from the game. You may be stuck in traffic. you may be up at home and you can't go to sleep for what you just saw. And I am like each and every one of you asking myself, what in the heck is going on? What in the world has happened to our football team? And if you just heard Mark Stoops, he's not sure either.
Starting point is 00:03:25 If you just heard Dick Gabriel and Jeff Piccaro and Tom Leach, they're not sure either something has happened to our football team that I still believe is the most talent Mark Stoops has had since he's been here
Starting point is 00:03:43 on one team but how can you lose with his now seven straight SEC home games seven straight 0 and 4 this year SEC home games
Starting point is 00:03:59 and you are now in your last 13 SEC home games 2 and 11 I don't know man I don't know what has happened I'm upset I'm mad I'm disappointed I'm embarrassed I'm embarrassed
Starting point is 00:04:20 that these this three game stretch well let's back it up a little more you went down and you beat Ole Miss on the road and held them to half of their 600 yard average. You held them to around 300 yards of offense. Since then, you let Vandy manhandle you. They pumped you on your own field.
Starting point is 00:04:49 You went down to Florida, and you stunk it up against a struggling Florida team. And then here comes Auburn. that's been struggling, one of the worst records in the SEC, and they ran all over you. Your first three possessions, you hold them. Defense held for three and out on the first possession, right? Then they got the interception by Waller, and then turnover on downs on the third position.
Starting point is 00:05:26 So Auburn's first three possessions, defense looks awesome. three and out an interception, turnover on downs. After that, they start handing the ball to the hunter guy. You couldn't stop him. Your defense that everybody's been bragging on
Starting point is 00:05:47 that I got fussed at today on the pregame show and I said, I don't know why we're patting this defense on the back here lately, they fell apart and could not stop runner. Jarrez? Hunter who now has the most rushing yards against Kentucky in the history of
Starting point is 00:06:08 Commonwealth Stadium slash Krogerfield it's not Herschel Walker it's not Bo Jackson it's not George Rogers it's not Emmett Smith it's Jarrez Hunter ran for 278 yards most ever at Krogerfield and Auburn Let me discuss some of the defense just for a minute. Auburn made your defense look horrible. I mean, I know we lost JJ Reaver, Derek Jackson, Maxwell Harrison's not out there, it doesn't matter. You've got enough talent out there.
Starting point is 00:06:46 You should not let Auburn run all over you. That last two drives, they went what? 80 yards and 90 yards on back-to-back drives, I think, something like that? Offense. I mean, I know our quarterback kind of struggled. Brock did in the first half. But then you make the switch at halftime and give the ball to Gavin Wimset. And it's like all of a sudden there's no, and it's not Gavin Wimitt's fault.
Starting point is 00:07:16 I'm not going to say it's his fault. But there was no urgency. There was no sense of urgency. There was no rhythm. There was nothing. Three and out looked bad. and some of it's going on the play calling. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:07:34 I think it was Wimson's second drive out there. Wilcox and Patterson didn't even touch the ball. You got two guys that are running the ball pretty well. Didn't even touch the ball. They threw three long balls in that one possession. It was an awful possession. It was an awful game. It was an awful performance.
Starting point is 00:08:00 And now Kentucky is probably not going to go to a bowl game. One in five in the SEC, three and five overall. And the way they're playing, you think they're going to go down and beat Tennessee and Knoxville? No. You think they're going down and beat Texas and Texas? No. You think they can beat Louisville? Probably not.
Starting point is 00:08:21 So the bowl streak is going to end. And to be honest, they don't deserve to go to a bowl game. They have the talent where they should. be going to a bowl game, they don't deserve it the way they've played. And I know, I'm at KS Bar and Grill right now, and our bar is full of people that are in here because they're mad. They're upset. We love this team.
Starting point is 00:08:48 We love Mark Stoops. But people are not happy. Now, I know we got a couple Auburn fans in here, and they're celebrating. But I'm just looking on these guys' faces in here, and we're all just like, we didn't just get punched in the stomach, we've been punched in the crotch. We've been kicked in the crotch tonight, and it hurts, and it's not a good feeling,
Starting point is 00:09:13 especially after what we've experienced lately with our UK football program. So I, like I said, I said here to listen to the post-game show and listen to Jeff and Tom and Dick kind of break it down, and nobody seems to know the answer. how to fix it, what's wrong. And I don't either. And then when I heard Mark Stoops come on, you know, he said some things I want my coach to say.
Starting point is 00:09:42 You know, he sounds hurt. You know, he didn't make any excuses. He kind of owned up to everything. That's the right way to handle it because life is not good for the UK football team. Our studio engineer, Billy Rutledge, is, uh, he's, Join us, Billy. Before we get some phone calls, what was your take on everything that transpired tonight over there at Krogerfield? You know, I think you hit the nail on the head in the beginning when you talked about how much talent this roster has. And how is it possible that they could be this bad this late in the year? It's a failure.
Starting point is 00:10:19 F-A-I-L-U-R-E, Ryan. There's no other way to put it. And I do want to give some props to our guy Dane Key, though. If there was one bright spot today, it was your man who was going to be playing on Sundays one of these days, Ryan, that was an incredible. incredible performance of him, and I give him a lot of credit for not only that, but doing the post-game interview with Jeff afterwards. I appreciate you saying that, because obviously I think when I brag on him, I think it gets misconstrued sometimes, but he did. He was great. He played great.
Starting point is 00:10:50 He's been playing great all season. And I would hate to think where this football team would be without him, because he is the only constant on offense that this team has had all season. season. You're right. I mean, take away a penalty. They had three yards in two drives in the third quarter. I mean, when Auburn was going 14 plays, 75 yards, 7 plus minutes, winning the middle eight. Yep. It was Kentucky that just laid down. And they, you know, they got a break right before half time where they got the sack and Vandy couldn't get the field go unit out there in time. So it went into halftime tied at 10. I thought that was.
Starting point is 00:11:32 huge. I remember I told Dante, I said, man, if they can just come out and get a stop, because Vanderbilt got the ball to start the second half, I said, if Kentucky can just get a stop, you know, they can maybe do some damage here. Well, like you said, they let Vandy go the length of the field pretty much and take seven minutes off the clock. And not only that, it was on eight straight run plays to start that drive. They just ran right up the middle on us, Ryan. I would too. Our run defense was awful. I mean, this great defense we brag so much about was awful. Hunter, they couldn't stop him.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Auburn did the right thing. They kept giving it to him because Kentucky sure wasn't going to stop him. Yeah, 23 carries, 278 yards, two touchdowns. You just, you couldn't do anything to stop the guy. And again, you can't score inside the five-yard line. How bad is that? That's the third time now that has happened. Three out of the last, what, four games.
Starting point is 00:12:30 We've had it inside the five. First and goal and can't punch, can't get a touchdown? I mean, Kentucky got a lot of breaks in this game. Like you said, the end of the first half, their kicker missed a field goal in the second half to keep Kentucky in the game. And they just didn't take advantage of any of it. And it feels like the end of the season. It does.
Starting point is 00:12:52 You know, you're right. It does. And I think that's why I feel so dejected. this season's over. They are not going to a bowl game. Even if they beat Louisville, I'm still not going to be happy with what has happened this season. It started out great.
Starting point is 00:13:09 Well, first of all, late arriving crowd, Billy. I mean, it was a very late arriving crowd. The seats didn't get filled until they're lining up for the opening kickoff. There was no excitement in that stadium, no energy, no buzz at all. until kickoff. And then everybody finally got there, and there was a buzz. They hold, you know, they hold them to three and out. Get the ball, boom, get a field goal.
Starting point is 00:13:36 I think, well, I think Kentucky scored first. Got the field goal, held them to three and out, got the ball back and scored a touchdown. It 10 to nothing, and the stadium's kind of alive. But then the next seven possessions, zero points. Zero. It was awful. Yeah, it really was. And then, you know, Brock through one of the worst interceptions I've seen this year.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Oh, that was bad. And then after that in the second half, they go to Gavin Wimsaat, and he really didn't do much, if anything at all. The offense, and again, I'm not going to say anything bad against Gavin Wimson, but the offense stalled. There was no urgency. They're running the play clock down to the final seconds before he snapped the ball, and, you know, you're down two touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:14:22 I mean, I just don't understand some of the play calls. and the way the offense is being run. Against a bad Auburn team, Ryan. This is a team that had won a game in the conference. Now, you're the worst team in the conference. It's Kentucky and Mississippi State. Maybe they need to meet for the Egg Bowl, cereal bowl, or whatever, to see who's the worst in the SEC.
Starting point is 00:14:44 So look, I don't know. We're going to get a lot of bad calls. It's deserved. You know, we'll try to let everybody speak their peace. 859, 2802287. We'll take our break, come back. We'll loan them up, Billy. Local Total Leaders, KSR Postgame Show.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Kentucky loses tonight 24 to 10. We'll be right back. Welcome back. Local Total Leaders, KSR Postgame Show. Cats lose 24 to 10 to a bad Auburn team. Almost said Vanderbilt. They've already lost to Vanderbilt too. Golly, man.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Seven straight SEC home losses. Just let that sink in. Come on, man. Programs better than that. Teams better than that. How can this happen? So we're going to get everybody on, but I'll try to read. We're getting a lot of text messages and things too and tweet stuff.
Starting point is 00:15:36 I'll try to kind of mix them in as we go. I'm going to read this one. It says it's just incredibly disappointing how the season has crumbled over the last few weeks, and I can't imagine how fans mentally can recover from this. That sums it up. And that's that's how I feel. I feel like the season is over and I don't know what can make me. Well, of course I go down and beat Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:16:03 I'm going to be like, yeah, back on board. At this moment, I'm not feeling it. So do you agree with that season? With that what they said, Billy, that fans mentally are going to have a hard time recovering from what we've just seen these last three weeks. Yeah, no doubt, but that's not out of line. I mean, you looked at this three-game stretch. and you licked your lips a little bit.
Starting point is 00:16:25 You know what I mean? Vandy, Florida, Auburn, that's doable. You could set yourself up and have a big game at Tennessee or at Texas, but now you're looking at a game versus Murray State where there may not be a lot of people in the crowd. Man, after the Ole Miss win, we were talking possibly a chance to get in the playoffs. Nine and three.
Starting point is 00:16:45 Because they were going to win these next three games, Vanderbilt, Florida, and Auburn. That seems ridiculous now. That's how things change. And nobody seems to know what is the reason why. All right, let's go to the phone lines, Billy. Who's our first caller? Stub.
Starting point is 00:17:03 Stubb. Hey, Stub. Hey, Stub. You know what Bill Parcells used to say, you are what your record says you are. They just don't have the players. They've got some talent. They've got good skill players.
Starting point is 00:17:27 But the offense. offensive line is not very good. It comes down to jimmies and Joe's. They don't have a good offensive line, and they're just not very good. Also, what do you think will be the over-and-or on the attendance of the Murray State game? 25,000, over or under?
Starting point is 00:17:48 Appreciate the phone call, stub. I mean, it'll probably be over $25,000. and they should be able to get that. But Billy, after that last interception in the fourth quarter, on the goal line. On the goal line, the interception, it emptied out really, really, really fast. And there were definitely less than 25,000 people there by the end of the game. What was maddening for me was you were down to possessions,
Starting point is 00:18:24 and every time you were snapping the ball, there was one second left on the play clock. No sense of urgency. I mean, Tom and Jeff were screaming into the mics like, let's go. Let's get this offense rolling. I am with you. I don't understand how you're down two touchdowns. You've got to be playing a little more up-tempo, and you're taking the clock down to the final seconds before you snap the ball.
Starting point is 00:18:47 I was surprised they benched Brock like that. I mean, he didn't play well in the first half. He had a bad half. He threw a really bad long ball to Barry on. That is bad. He threw one to Dane. It was about three feet behind. Dane was cutting across the middle.
Starting point is 00:19:03 He threw it like three feet behind him. He made a really bad interception. And I think, well, here's what I know. That's why I picked Gavin Wimson as my MVP because he was supposed to come in like the third series. Not just for a play, for a series. and I just felt like he was going to run the ball a lot well they must have changed their mind
Starting point is 00:19:28 they scored on their first two possessions so he didn't come in and just periodically until the second half they gave him the keys over said okay we're going to run a series with you kept him in there that second series that he was in when Wilcox and Patterson didn't even touch
Starting point is 00:19:44 the ball and they threw like three deep balls they weren't even close I mean, I don't know, man. I just wonder where some heads are at. Okay, who's next phone call? Ethan. Ethan, go ahead, Ethan. Hey, so we're at the point where the fan base is like we'd be happy with making the great value tortilla chip bowl.
Starting point is 00:20:06 And that's just so embarrassing. And I get this may be putting you on the spot, so it might be better question almost for Billy. But, like, if you're a parent of one of these players that might be playing on Sunday, one day. What are you saying to your kid whenever that transfer portal opens up? Like, I don't see, because, I mean, it's just pitiful being on this team anymore. It's like you're not helping yourself in any way. Like, this game here in a couple weeks is going to look like a Thursday night JV's football game.
Starting point is 00:20:41 I've got season tickets. No part of me wants to drive two hours to go watch this team play. It's pitiful. Yeah. appreciate the phone call you know this this passed off season before this season even started
Starting point is 00:20:56 you don't think Dion Walker Dane Key Barry on Brown Maxwell Harrison they had other schools courting them those four guys are going to play in the NFL they all could have left
Starting point is 00:21:09 they all could have transferred played somewhere else they all chose to stay here they believed in what was going on here the culture here but something has happened, something has changed, and I honestly believe nobody knows what the answer is to this problem. Well, it works the other way too, because I don't think Dionne Walker's earning the Buku NIL dollars that Kentucky gave him, right? He's not.
Starting point is 00:21:41 The word Brock Vandergriff? He's not. I mean, it goes both ways, but if I'm talking to my son or daughter, that could be potentially making a million dollars elsewhere. If the transfer portal is open, I'd say you have to do what's best for you, right? Yes. I think, you know, we've got some good young talent on this team
Starting point is 00:22:01 that would probably be hearing from some other schools and using now against us. Like, man, you don't want to play for them. You know, they just, they lost to Vandy, Auburn, and Florida. Three teams that maybe have losing records in the SEC when the season's all said none. Although Vandy looked good again today. It's like Iowa football.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Ryan, except you're not winning any games. Who's the next phone call? Matt. Matt, go ahead, Matt. Hey, Ryan, how's it going? Not well, Matt. How are you doing? You know, down here in National Tennessee, we're holding it down as much as we can. But, you know, with all these Tennessee fans, these Vandy fans, it's not going pretty good.
Starting point is 00:22:42 You know, I wish we would have done a whole lot better against Vanderbilt than we actually did. you know, it seems like Vanderbilt has passed us in the SEC and we cannot get back on top of them. They beat us in football and who knows what is next. You know, it just pains me to see because this football season, we all look forward to this. We all look forward to the seven to eight games in September, October, and November. and then we just lose them all for home games.
Starting point is 00:23:20 You know, I am not to the point where I want to fire suits at all. But I want to win some dang home games. Thank you so much, Ryan. Thank you, Matt. Appreciate it. He said what we've all been saying, man. I don't know what has happened to our ability to win on your own field and play well in your home field.
Starting point is 00:23:45 I don't have to our ability to stop people. I don't what's happened to our ability to get the ball in the end zone. So we've played what now, six SEC games and I think we only have
Starting point is 00:23:57 six touchdowns. Is that right? Six offensive touchdown. Is that right? I got to look, but I think that's right. I think we've had six games and only scored six touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:24:10 And your offense should be better than that. It is better than that. So who's next, Billy? Elliot. Go ahead, Elliot. Hey, Ryan. Hey, Elliot. Is there any way to exchange my last two season tickets for maybe a basketball game?
Starting point is 00:24:33 You know, we're going to start hearing more of that, Elliot, where people are going to just have tuned out because basketball season is upon us. That's just how life is here in our state. Absolutely. Yeah, it was just aggravating to see. It looked like two completely different. teams from the first quarter to the last three. And it's the same way from Georgia and Ole Miss to the rest of the season.
Starting point is 00:24:59 I'm just confused, and I know everybody else is too. Yeah. Appreciate the phone call, man, Elliot. You're right, man. And Georgia, they played Georgia, who may win the national title again to one point. You hold Georgia to 13 points. you crushed Ohio and then you go on the road
Starting point is 00:25:20 and you beat Ole Miss may still get in the playoffs and then the last three games man nobody now my football buddies nobody has given me an answer what's going I didn't have one of my football friends text me I'm going to read his text I'm not going to tell you who it is
Starting point is 00:25:38 but he said we have a serious culture problem with our team you know we heard we've heard other former players say a leaderless team you know I don't know man I don't I don't I don't think anybody knows the answer or can put their finger do you have any idea of Billy what would be your guess uh no it's tough I mean when you you know everybody's got a plan until you get punched in the face you've heard that a couple times before but I
Starting point is 00:26:13 think that's amplified when you don't do the little thing right, the attention to detail, the entitlement. I think we've talked about that for the past couple years. You know, the sad part is, you know, Mark Stoops is throwing away what he's built. You know what I mean? Yep. The streak is ending of eight straight seasons making a bowl. That's impressive.
Starting point is 00:26:34 That's not a lot of teams that have done that before. Like we all said, he's done things here that most people thought could never be done. When eight games in a season, come on, man, not in Kentucky. go to a bowl game eight years in a row that ain't happening in Kentucky he got the program where they were beating every year South Carolina Mississippi State Missouri Vanderbilt now those teams are punking you not just beating you they're beating you down and making you look pitiful yeah this season's not living up to the standard that he built here amen they're exactly right and I think if you heard him tonight he owned up to it. Like I said, he didn't make any excuses. That's why I like the guy. Let's get one more. Then we'll go to our break.
Starting point is 00:27:21 Nathan. Nathan, go ahead, Nathan. Yeah, I just want to say, it was super disappointing to see, well, I guess my biggest disappointment is, like, to see Gavin come in so early, does that not turn Brock off?
Starting point is 00:27:38 I know we don't have a line that let Brock do his thing, whatever this, that. But, like, to see another quarterback come in so soon. To me, that would throw me off. I mean, I've never played college football. I played high school, just that. My coach was to bring me out on a third and so what and put another player in.
Starting point is 00:27:59 It's just like, oh, am I not doing the right thing? Which then again, it comes back on him. And also, I want to state Dion. I mean, did he just come in and play when he wanted to play tonight? He didn't start. So, why bring him back in? Thank you all. Go KSR.
Starting point is 00:28:17 Well, you know, Walker was hurt. He was even questionable whether he was going to play. So I give him a little credit if he, you know, toughed it out, try to get out there and play. He didn't have his best game. And the thing about the quarterbacks, you know, you'll hear people argue, Billy. A two-quarterback system never, ever, ever, ever, ever works.
Starting point is 00:28:38 I think they wanted to use Gavin some because the running back room was so thin. He gave him another pair of legs. He does run the ball pretty well. like I said, I had heard he was going to come in in the third series tonight, regardless, and then they scored and maybe they just pushed it. Then after Brock struggled, went ahead and threw him out there to start the second half. But answer the guy's question, Billy, I think, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:02 I mean, you're an athlete. You want to play. And if you get benched, it definitely, I think, would mess with your head. Yeah. But you also want to see what you have in Gavin. And, you know, you got to start thinking about what you're going to do next year. But that was a game that you could have won this year, and you still could have been bowl eligible.
Starting point is 00:29:20 It seemed like a quick rash decision to me, but Brock made some pretty bad plays in the first half. There's no doubt. We'll take our break. Come back, go back to the phone lines. 859-2-2-287. Kentucky loses their seventh straight SEC home game. Now 2 and 11 in their last 13 SEC home games.
Starting point is 00:29:40 Losing it tonight, 24 to 10 to Auburn. We'll right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. local tootidos KSR postgame show after the cats lose again this time to Auburn 24 to 10 I did get a text that's kind of some displeased kind of some bad news for somebody uh oh says some jerk broke into my car and left two Murray State tickets see if we're going to start getting that now we're going to start getting that how do you keep
Starting point is 00:30:12 getting these post game shows by the way I You think you have impact the result? Yes, because, you know, I was supposed to do the Florida postgame show last week. That's right. They stunk it up and Matt decided, man, you know, he needed to come in and do it because it was such a bad loss. You know, I've lost track of the ones. I know I did the Evansville basketball loss. I did the St. Peters postgame loss because Drew and Matt were there.
Starting point is 00:30:45 There's a lot of football ones I've done. Yeah, you're not very lucky at those. No, I'm trying to even think back. There were some really bad ones I've did over the years. I can't remember. 859-2-802-287. Let's go back the phone lines. Who we got?
Starting point is 00:31:01 Ryan. Ryan, go ahead, Ryan. Hey, how are you doing tonight, Ryan? Well, could be better. How are you doing, man? I know, I know. Look, I'm going to say this, and I've been saying it for a while. Our football program, we have a great football program, great spirit around here.
Starting point is 00:31:17 our fans are awesome, like our basketball program, awesome. I just believe, like I've been saying, I called in a couple weeks ago and said, we're stuck in neutral, but I was on the, I was on y'all's YouTube where you posted his comment on there and said that, you know, we need a new phase. It's time for a new change. It's time's up. We're stuck in neutral. Somebody commented back and said, we're not stuck in neutral.
Starting point is 00:31:43 We're stuck in reverse with suit. So, I mean, I don't know what's going on. with this program. I mean, I say I love our football team, but we're way better, we're way better than what we're playing this year. And I do believe that if we had a new face, maybe it would give us a fresh start. Like y'all commented and said that, you know, you don't know what's going on. Maybe it's, you know, morale around the team, the spirit. Maybe if we got a new coach like we did in basketball, maybe that, you know, be a good head start to it. But I appreciate you all taking my call and y'all have a good rest of your night be safe going home thank you Ryan
Starting point is 00:32:18 appreciate it brother you know goes along with this text I just got on the aviaglass text machine forever grateful to stoop for what he gave us so difficult to see it crumble like this would hate his era to end in disgrace the way that cows did painful you know I get it yeah I think we a lot of us feel that way we're forever grateful for what cow did here but it was time it was time for a change We're going to forever be grateful for what Mark Stoops did here. A lot of people are getting to that point where maybe it's time for a change. Are you there?
Starting point is 00:32:54 I'm not there. You're not there. No, I'm not there. And maybe it's because when I hear him on these post-game shows, he sounds as defeated as I feel. I know he doesn't want to go out like this. I know that he's proud of what he's done here and build this. program. He hates losing as much as
Starting point is 00:33:19 anybody. So, I still think there's a lot of fight left in him. It may not we may not get to see the results of it though until next year. I think this season's over. Who's next, Billy? Evan.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Evan, go ahead, Evan. Hey, Ryan. How are you? Good. How are you, Evan? I'm doing good tonight. I just want to talk about, you know, I traveled in for the game.
Starting point is 00:33:50 And the fans did bring good energy tonight. I thought it was a great environment. The fans have brought the energy pretty much the whole season. The crowds have been great. And I guess that's just kind of why, like, going back to last
Starting point is 00:34:05 year, the pony up comments kind of irk me. Because the fans bring it, the fans have brought it. And the product on the field just hasn't been been great for the fans to enjoy. I mean, you know, like we've said, we're, what, two in ten or two and eleven, or, sorry,
Starting point is 00:34:25 two and nine in the last however many home games, conference home games. And it's just not a product on the field that the fans can enjoy despite them bringing a very good atmosphere for Kentucky. I appreciate the call. You're right, man. Like I said, the crowd was a late arriving crowd, and it was, the, The stadium was kind of flat until kickoff, and then it really picked up. Fans have showed up.
Starting point is 00:34:54 Fans were, it was an awesome environment for the Vanderbilt game. It was an awesome environment for the Georgia game. It was an awesome environment for the South Carolina game. There is no excuse this fan base has been there showing full support through this whole season. Now, I don't know how many people are going to the Murray State game, but they've done their part. There's no doubt about it. They just showed Dane's two catches on the SEC. network, Billy.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Yeah. See, I'm seeing him on video for the first time. I was there at the game, so I'm seeing a video. My goodness. Oh, yeah, buddy. He was great. He mossed that guy in the first quarter, the catch he made on the sideline. That's an NFL catch.
Starting point is 00:35:34 That's a pro catch. Plain and simple. Who's next? Chad. Chad. Go ahead, Chad. Hey, Ryan. I appreciate you doing this. I know it's probably a tough show for you to do. So I keep seeing Matt. tweets about we don't have the money so forget about it I mean do we really not
Starting point is 00:35:58 think that there might be some donors that will get their money together and decide that it's time for a change I mean don't get me wrong I love what soup has done for our program but I mean it's time I mean I hate to be this way but it's time. It's time for a change. We need to, I think we need to get like an exploratory committee together. They need to start looking. I mean, he's lost.
Starting point is 00:36:31 I mean, when you listen to his post-game comments, he has lost. And you say it, I say it. There's talent on his team, but he cannot get it going in the direction that we need to. So I honestly hope that there is enough donors to where we can get together and decide that it's time for a change. I'll listen to your comments. Okay, Chad, appreciate it. I'm trying to think of the best way to say this. Bigger schools that have the big perennial power football programs, they've got, let's just say,
Starting point is 00:37:16 100, let's say 50 even, 50 donors that donate multi-millions of dollars. Okay, 50. Probably most, probably may have more. Kentucky has like five. So when people want to buy out Stoop's contract, it's not that simple. And for them to go to these donors that they're going to all the time to build this facility. upgrade the program, upgrade the facilities, upgrade the stadium, let's build that. There's only like five guys that have that kind of deep pockets that could do something like that.
Starting point is 00:37:59 But this is not, you know, Texas, someplace like that, where they could do something like that maybe. Texas A&M spent $77 million to buy out Jimbo. See, there's no way Kentucky would ever have a chance to. ever come up with something like that, ever. And Mitch Barnard wouldn't do it. He wouldn't jeopardize the rest of the athletic programs to buy out a coach if he had something like that. He just wouldn't do it.
Starting point is 00:38:26 He's got too much pride in the rest of his program that he helped develop. All right, we've got time for one more. You've got to take our break here. Yeah, you can take one or two more. All right, let's take another one. Then we'll take our break at the top of the hour. Who we got? Hunter.
Starting point is 00:38:39 Hunter, go ahead, Hunter. Hey, how are you guys doing the night? Well, it could be better, Hunter. I know I was screaming at the TV the entire time I'm just frustrated Ryan something's got to give
Starting point is 00:38:54 you know we can't keep being insane Sandy's doing the same thing over and over and expecting different outcome and we've been insane for the last two years that's all I can say my two questions is I know a lot of people have called for stoop to get fired
Starting point is 00:39:08 I feel like a lot quicker than Cal Perry do you think it's because we had a bad experience with Cal we kind of have like a shorter leash on stoops and then I actually get to take my dad I'm from Utah and I get to take my dad to his first ever Kentucky event around Thanksgiving time would you rather go to the Western Kentucky basketball game or the football game against Louisville? Oh Billy this is a perfect question for you and me because you're a Western grad so if you could take your dad your first first ever UK event are you going to watch a UK basketball game against your alma mater or you big rivalry football game between louisville and kentucky well i guess it just depends if you want to see a win or a loss if you want to see a loss i think you got to go to the western kentucky basketball game but if you want to see a win you want to see
Starting point is 00:40:01 the cats beat down louisville then you go to the football game right i think if it's just if taking his dad to the first one you want to go to the kentucky louisville football game i mean it actually could mean something for kentucky because that's maybe their only chance they can salvage what's the last months of the season. Oh, it's not going to salvage anything, Ryan. Season's over. And, you know, the chances are they're going to run Western Kentucky off the floor and basketball. Hey now, hey now.
Starting point is 00:40:29 I don't know if you heard the crowd mic tonight, though, Ryan, but that made it be the MVP of the game. Did our producer sound engineer correct the problem from our caller on the pregame show that said the game mic was too loud? Yeah, we turned it down a little bit. Did you send some directives to have it turned down? Yeah, you know, I had to send a couple messages out, make sure we put on the best broadcast possible. And they followed through, followed your orders? Yeah, we had a little lighter crowd, so hopefully that guy that called in had an easier time listening to the game. Well, yes, he was very upset that he couldn't hear Jeff and Tom because the crowd mic was too loud.
Starting point is 00:41:10 And Billy said he would take care of it today, and you're telling everybody you came through for the guy. I think so, yeah. I think we got it. All right, very good. The one win tonight. You've earned your big paycheck tonight being our sound engineer. All right, we'll take our final break. Come back, our final segment, 859-2-2-287.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Ryan Lemon on the Billy R Sports Post-game Show. We'll be right back after this. Welcome back. Final segment of the local tornadoes KSR post-game show. Cats a loser, 24-10 to Auburn. Their seventh straight SEC home loss. they dropped to 1 in 5 into conference. I mean, I could go on and on and on,
Starting point is 00:41:48 but if you want to get really depressed, go to Corey Price's Twitter. Corey P.08. And read some of the about eight of his last 10 posts. If you're not depressed already, that will make you depressed. Ryan, they had 464 yards in three quarters. I liked how you did it.
Starting point is 00:42:20 Not Bo Jackson, not Herschel Walker. Not Emmett Smith, not Heisman winner, George Rogers, some guy named Jarrez Hunter. Jarrez Hunter. Carves up the cats for the most rushing yards ever in the history of Crogerfield slash Commonwealth Stadium. Against the defense that we all thought was really, really good. Remember?
Starting point is 00:42:45 We're going to win a lot of games this year, the defense is going to keep us in the game. By the way, our offense, still the only team in the SEC not to score 21 points. Ouch. How can't, like I said, I think they've got six touchdowns and six games, SEC games. Can't score 21 points. What is wrong with you? You get the ball inside the five.
Starting point is 00:43:09 What is wrong with you? Speaking of which, you know, we talked about Jamarion Wilcox was on draft kings that Earlier in the week, he scored two touchdowns. It was like plus $2,800. Some guys got on that. He ended up being RB number one, scores the first touchdown of the game. Those people probably feeling pretty good about themselves. Why did they not give him the ball when they're down there inside the five?
Starting point is 00:43:35 The dude can, he can pick it up. Yeah, maybe he didn't have his shoes on. Jay and Lyndon sends me a great tweet. Text, I'm sorry, on the Avis last text machine. I'm worried the NIL money won't be there for what we need next year. That's where it's going to hurt the most right there. Those people that have donated all this money, supported the NIL, are going to keep the money in their pockets next year if they feel the way they do tonight.
Starting point is 00:44:08 It's just life. 859-2-287. Who's next, Billy? Brandon. Brandon. Go ahead, Brandon. It's me, yeah? Yeah, go ahead, sir.
Starting point is 00:44:22 Hey, how are you doing, Ryan? Questions. So I was actually, I was at the Vandy game. I don't know how many years ago. I'm 24, so it's probably around 12 or 13 when there was nobody in the bottom level. Yep. So kind of a different vibe now when we're still losing. But on the Stoops kind of question, not the biggest win in the Stoops career,
Starting point is 00:44:43 but what do you think the best, like, the fans felt, I guess, in the Stoop tenure? about this program. I'll hang up to listen. I appreciate it. I mean, you know, like we've said a lot tonight, I think everybody is very thankful for what Mark Stoops has done here and built a program up that many people thought could never be done. I never thought this program would win eight games in a regular season.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Hell, they've won ten twice. Never thought that would ever happen. So I will forever be grateful. And even though I'm upset with the way things are going right now, like Billy asked me earlier, I'm still not ready to go get rid of him. I know a lot of people are, and I completely understand that.
Starting point is 00:45:23 There's nothing wrong with feeling that way. I'm just not one of those guys yet. Where are you, Billy, in that argument? I was still thinking about the best moments of the Stoops era. And mine was that drive with Wondell. Was that against Iowa in the Citrus Bowl? We had the five straight catches or whatever it was? He got popped on, like, the first play.
Starting point is 00:45:44 Is that what the guy was asking of great moments in the Stoops era? Well, maybe. Maybe I misunderstood it. He was just saying maybe some of his favorite moments. Austin, Guinness, field goals. Yeah. The Missouri game on the road. Yes, when the Conrad, C.J. Conrad made that catch.
Starting point is 00:46:01 How about the, oh, I had it and it just lost it. Oh, the Bud Dupree. Yeah. Against South Carolina. Absolutely. JoJo Kemp ran the Wildcat, like, what, 12 times in a row? That wasn't. Joker was that was stoop's wasn't it
Starting point is 00:46:18 I'm not sure it was predates me but think about Lynn Bowden taking over at quarterback for half a year and you win in the belk bowl come on how awesome was that some big wins versus Louisville Lamar fumbles there's been some great
Starting point is 00:46:35 great moments during the Mark Stoops era the last three weeks are just been disappointed Tennessee coming up next prime time 745 kickoff in Knoxville with a women will be down there chewing tobacco and spitting all over my shoes they'd be spitting in your face next Saturday who's next Billy Jordan Jordan Jordan
Starting point is 00:46:58 hey guys I was pretty hard on Bush Hamden last week and I continue to be pretty hard on him tonight I think it was pretty stupid to bring in Gavin on a first down earlier in the game when the defense will know what's coming oh there's no doubt yeah I appreciate the phone call when he comes in there's no doubt he's running the football
Starting point is 00:47:32 but they tried to mix things up today had him throw some long balls I don't know why they did it they're in the second half during that one possession but they're trying they were trying to give him a shot give him a chance to earnie stripes
Starting point is 00:47:48 I just don't know if this is the right time to do it, but what would you have done, Bill? Would you have made a change? I wouldn't have been doing this two-quarterback BS the entire season, honestly. I know you want to make everybody happy because you've brought some other people in, but this is football, man, and that doesn't really work. It doesn't really work.
Starting point is 00:48:12 No. Let's get another phone call. Who we got? Ben. Ben, go ahead, Ben. I just want to say that Gerald Mincey's probably the worst offensive lineman in the SEC right now. And how hard is it to make defensive adjustment? Yeah, man, appreciate the phone call.
Starting point is 00:48:31 You know, we were ready to crown our defense the best ever in the Mark Stoops era. They were so what they did against Ole Miss, but the last three games, our defense has not been good. Like I said, I said that on the pregame show, Billy. I got a little pushback from our boys. but let's just go through. The Vanderbilt game, opening drive, you let Van Die go, I think, 95 yards or 90 yards, whatever it was. You were like 3 of 13 on third down.
Starting point is 00:49:04 I'm sorry, Vanderbilt was like 10 of 13 on 3rd. You could not stop them on 3rd down. Florida, awful. Florida just picked you apart. did whatever they wanted to against your defense. And tonight we saw a guy just run all over you. So even though the defense did play well against George and Ole Miss, they have not played well these three games in a row now.
Starting point is 00:49:29 Yeah, no, they haven't lived up to expectations. You know, they have been injured. Deerick Jackson got hurt in this game. J.J. Weaver got hurt in this game and did not come back after he made a big play to end the half. Maxwell Harrison, obviously out. But a guy like Dumas Johnson has got to be like, what the heck did I sign up for?
Starting point is 00:49:47 You know what I mean? He didn't lose one game or maybe one game in three years at Georgia. Dudes, what are we up at two now? Five? Yeah. What is I reckon now? Three and five? Something like that.
Starting point is 00:50:01 One and five in the SEC? Yeah, we're three and five overall. One and five in the SEC. I'm sorry, Duma, Duma Walker Johnson. We should have done you better. All right, he's next. Todd is next. Todd, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Todd. All right, Todd. Hello, Ryan. How they are. Mystery, love company, so I thought I'd join in. Listen, I'm with you, Ryan. I don't think I'm ready to lose stoop. First of all, I don't know who we would get.
Starting point is 00:50:40 Do you? No. People say Brad White, John Summerall. That's what, you know, everybody on social media is pointing to. towards? Yeah, I just, I just can't go along with getting rid of. And like you say, can't afford to pay it anyway. Can't.
Starting point is 00:51:02 And I'm hoping things will get better next year. And I just was curious as to wondering if there was some turmoil in the locker room, maybe between players or coaches. Appreciate the phone call. I mean, there's been other people that have asked that question, and I'm 100% being completely honest. I've not heard anything like that. Matt said he's not heard anything like that.
Starting point is 00:51:36 Drew said he's not heard anything. Now, maybe that'll come out later. But as of right now, I really have not heard anything where there's a problem in the locker room or a problem with coaches and players. That's why it's kind of a head scratcher What is going on? Even Stoops is like he doesn't know I have the answers either
Starting point is 00:51:59 But they it's it's I don't know a lot of football But I can watch the game and see that they're not executing on offense That offense is kind of stuck and Some of the play calls don't seem to match the situation But again, I've never had to make, be an offensive coordinator, so I don't know. But I just don't know why, like when Gavin came in, Billy, they seemed like that just kind of let off the gas a little bit. And you're down 14 points. Yeah, we really haven't seen any extended action of Gavin.
Starting point is 00:52:36 So that did seem a little puzzling. But, you know, I think we're past anger at this point. It's like misery. It's depression. It's like embarrassment. Yeah. I think we're realizing now where we're at. I realize I'm the only person left here at KS. Bar and Grill.
Starting point is 00:52:54 Why are you at the bar? How come you couldn't go to the house? Your brother's an Auburn fan? They wouldn't give you a ride home? Yeah, they wanted to stay to the end of the game, and I don't blame them. And I didn't think I have enough time. I may have been able to make it, but we've been close. I just didn't want to jeopardize.
Starting point is 00:53:10 This was such kind of a big show where I knew a lot of people would want to call in. I didn't want to put you on the spot, Billy. Well, the poor workers having to wait there until you leave. Are you the last one there? I am now the last one here. I do need a ride home. Can somebody take me home? Let's take another phone call. Who we got?
Starting point is 00:53:27 Thomas is next. Thomas. Go ahead, Thomas. Danky had an awesome night. He's definitely NFL quality. But Mark Stubes has capped his productivity in Kentucky. And I know we're stuck with him. Can you rid of him? But look at the offensive coordinators we've gone through.
Starting point is 00:53:46 got to stop saying these offensive play calls. Why do we call this? Why do we call this? It's reflective of the head coach, period. But I think he's captured his productivity, and we're not going to be better. South Carolina's passed us up, Vanderbilt, Missouri. All those three schools have passed us up. I think we're done with him. Appreciate the phone call. You know, Vince Merrill came on this radio show. Came on KSR and said, you know, we now, we now. beat South Carolina every year. We now beat Vanderbilt every year. We now beat Mississippi State every year. We now beat Missouri every year. Now we got to go beat Georgia. That's where we were, man. We were at a point where we were no longer in the bottom echelon of the SEC. We were knocking on the door at the top. We were going after Georgia for crying out loud. And he said many times, we still have to prove we can beat Georgia.
Starting point is 00:54:41 Man, they almost did it this year. 1312 was the final score. touchdowns. Kentucky did not score a touchdown, but there's still one point. Now we are at the bottom of the SEC. Not even in the middle. We are at the bottom of the SEC knocking
Starting point is 00:55:00 on the door down there with Mississippi State, Auburn, whoever else is floundering down there. Yeah, you can take that. We got one more call, Billy? Yeah, one more. Okay. Somehow we got to end on some positivity. So be thinking of that
Starting point is 00:55:17 After we take this last phone call Who's our last caller? Nolan Nolan, go ahead Nolan First off, I just want to start by saying You know, thanks guys for staying up late You know, I know you all have a lot invested Billy, you're at the station all day, Ryan
Starting point is 00:55:33 You know, you want to be, you know, home celebrating Or at least kind of dealing with some thoughts So the fact that you all stay on So late and, you know, kind of help the fans work through this It really doesn't know a lot But I have been trying to think What would I say? And I think there is so much to say, you know, we have struggles at quarterback.
Starting point is 00:55:52 We can't shift to a different style of defense when they're running it straight up the middle. We can't figure out to go to a single high safety and load the box. I mean, at the end of the day, that's just a game of numbers, right? And, you know, I listen to KSR every day. You know, we can't get rid of stoops. But at the end of the day, you do have to ask, you know, what's going on? It was crazy all night. Even when we make big plays, you didn't see.
Starting point is 00:56:17 guys running off the field. There wasn't a sense of urgency, like you said. You saw guys quitting on play. Dane had an incredible night. He was working his butt off, but there was just moments where you could see, like, the team quit on us. I, you know, I save up every single year, have a side hustle, even to save up for football tickets. Football truly is something that the fan can become a part of. Basketball's hard. But football, you can really feel like you're a part of a program and you can feel like you earned a product. This program has gotten to a point where fans just, you know, it's just not worth it for some of us.
Starting point is 00:56:56 You know, I have to drive two and a half hours in this case. I'm on my way back to Bowling Green right now. To drive back two and a half hours after watching that, it's miserable. I will say on a positive note, the one thing that does kind of help keep me through is all of these young players that have come in at that event as brink. brought in. We had that four-star tied-in that we picked up from South Carolina the other day. We still have cutter bowling. We have all these young kids coming in. My one thought leaving this is, you know, clearly the people we're putting out there, whether it's a lack of effort or just
Starting point is 00:57:30 play style, I don't know what it is, but the guys that we've got out there, they aren't just cutting it. I don't see how we can do much worse. I don't know why we start to look maybe put in some of these younger tackles and guards. You know, how do these young wide receivers do? I don't know if Cutter's ready, but give them a rep or two. Just kind of see what happened. What we have is not working. So I would be excited to see, do we have something for the future, or do we just need to look to do a complete clean of the slate?
Starting point is 00:57:57 Gentlemen, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Once again, appreciate all you all do. Have a great night. Great phone call, actually. As we kind of like, look, they lost the game. The bigger point of view to me is the program. You've heard me say already tonight, I'm not in the ship that think the program is done. I think there's still a little gas in the tank for that guy for Coach Stoops.
Starting point is 00:58:24 I still believe in him, actually. He's the guy I want leading my program. Yes, the last three games have stunk. I'm embarrassed. I'm mad. I'm upset. I'm not happy. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:58:35 He's not either. So I'm still in the boat willing to give that man a chance to get it back on the right. track because like that caller said, Billy, there is a lot of very good young talent on that sideline. And I think there's still a lot of good football coming from that program. Yeah, and he's earned a bad year, right? Eight consecutive bowl seasons, bringing Kentucky up from the ashes. He's done a lot, so maybe he deserves our grace. Can we get the Tyson chicken guy to take him out to dinner or something? Boyd that $40 million via? That seems to be a big obstacle, but, you know, I'm with you, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:59:14 I mean, this guy has done a lot of good, and we can't put the blame solely on him, but I don't know, man, like you said, you see this game versus Georgia, you see them win versus Ole Miss, you know it's in there somewhere. Why have we not seen it against three mediocre SEC teams? I want to end the show with this. A lot of our young fans don't remember Kentucky going one in ten. two and nine Kentucky fans
Starting point is 00:59:43 just begging for six wins we can go to a bowl game thinking that when Tim Couch went seven and five we had just won the national championship and won the Rose Bowl because we went seven and five and played in the Outback Bowl
Starting point is 00:59:59 and then the next year oh my goodness went to the the Music City Bowl with Dusty Bonner back-to-back years the bowl game you don't understand how happy this fan base was just to go to a bowl game, just to go to a ball game.
Starting point is 01:00:18 Now we're mad when we don't get eight wins. Now we're mad when we don't play on a New Year's Day ball game. That's how far this program has come. Yes, it's not the greatest at the moment, Corey Price, who just walked in. The last three weeks have not been fun, but I want the young fans to understand where we've come from. Billy, you might be one of those guys.
Starting point is 01:00:43 Look back at the era of the early 90s and see how far we've come from those days. Then maybe you'll have a little more grace and a little more patience to let us try to let him steer the boat back on track. That's what I want to say. Listen, thank you to everybody who came out here to KS. Bar. great pregame crowd. God bless every one of you that went to the game and set through that and all these home
Starting point is 01:01:17 games that they've lost, the crowd has been awesome. We used to complain about the crowd and the fans not showing up. You can't say that anymore, man. They show up and they're loud and they've done their part. So thank you to each and every one of you that went to the game. Thank for everybody who tuned in tonight. You know, it's kind of group therapy. It's kind of like, you know, we're all sitting on the couch in the therapist room,
Starting point is 01:01:42 and we're all talking our problems out tonight, Billy. So is Corey Price going to give you a drive right home, or do you need me to swing by the bar? What's up? Corey, did you come to take me home? Is that why you're here? He says he can. Okay, well, good. It's Corey, me, or the cleaning lady down there?
Starting point is 01:01:57 Yeah. Well, just let me know if you need me, buddy. But good way to end it. All right. Well, thank you, everybody, Billy. Great job is our sound engineer. And thanks for correcting that problem with the film mic. Listen, folks.
