All right, welcome in.
The local Total Ditters KSR postgame show, Ryan Lemon in for Matt Jones with a telephonic systems controller, comptroller, Billy Rutledge.
Look, that was tough.
I mean, we're going to sit there and talk about it for the next hour.
But that was tough, man.
That was a hard one to take.
you had the number one team in the country,
the undeniable best program in college football history
for the last couple years.
You had them on the ropes,
you had them at home, the crowd was going crazy,
just couldn't get the ball to bounce your way one time
and just couldn't get the ball in the end zone.
You know, it was a good game to watch,
but when the game was over, I felt like,
I felt so defeated because that was,
that win could have changed,
could have changed everything for Kentucky football.
It would have been, in my opinion,
one of the top three wins in the history of the program.
Maybe some would argue the biggest win in the history of the program.
Georgia had won 41 regular seasons games in a row.
Georgia had beaten Kentucky, what, 15 times in a row.
Georgia is the king of the hill, and you had them.
Defense played great.
I mean, Kentucky defense was awesome.
but so was the Georgia defense.
So a lot of people probably see that score and think 13 to 12,
that must have been an awful, ugly game.
No, it was awesome.
Both defenses played so good.
Billy told me this stat before we started,
that Georgia in the last five years has only scored under 20 points three times on the road.
Correct.
Only three times on the road have they scored under 20 points in the last.
five years. Who'd they play those three games, Billy?
All three times at Kentucky.
All three times at Kentucky.
What the other games were 16 points, I think, and 14
points. Tonight you held them to 13 points.
If you had told me before the game,
Kentucky was going to hold Georgia to 13 points
tonight, I thought for sure they would win.
Just couldn't get it in the end zone.
Bless Alex Rayner.
Without him, we wouldn't have scored. We've got
Zero. The guy just kicking him from Mars tonight. He kicked one 55 yards, a school record, the first one he hit.
Billy, I think it was the KSR bump. He was on the show Friday out there at Country Boy Brewing. He was there for the Scott County Humane Society. He was holding a puppy most time he was there. It was a KSR bump I think he got today.
I'd say so, yeah. So it was tough. I mean, that was a tough one. You heard Mark Stoops tonight on his postgame show. You could hear the dejection his voice, man. I mean, he's hurting, just like we're all hurting.
I've heard it was a tough locker room.
You know, guys hanging their heads, some tears.
Because they wanted it.
They wanted to prove us all wrong.
They wanted to prove that what we saw against South Carolina was just that one game a year where they just lay an egg.
They wanted to prove they were a better football team than that.
The defense had a lot to prove that they were not the team we saw playing against South Carolina.
The offensive line.
They wanted to shut us all up from talking about them all.
week and how bad they played against South Carolina.
And they did.
The Kentucky offensive line tonight,
they're playing against NFL guys.
Those Georgia guys are all going to be in the NFL next year.
And they played great.
They were awesome.
They did a great job blocking up front for DSK.
Dino Suma Kangbei.
He was awesome.
He's supposed to be our backup.
I don't know how you can take him out of the lineup now.
What he did tonight against Georgia.
I know Chip Trainham is probably going to be out.
He's our number one guy.
But Dino has earned the carries.
He's earned the touches, especially what he did tonight.
Billy, what was your take on everything?
Incredibly proud by their effort and their response after what I'm sure was a really tough
week after that performance against South Carolina.
I mean, man, if one thing could have gone the cat's way, if they could recover a fumble, that'd be great.
No kidding.
If that pick six early in the game would have stood, that could have been.
bend the momentum Kentucky. Exactly. But I think we'll all remember this game for the decision
to punt at the end. Well, that's what we got to get to. I mean, I know we'll probably get a lot
of calls about it. That is the number one topic online. It's the number one topic on social media.
Should they have punted with, was there three minutes left? Three and three and change.
303. 3.03. Okay. And it's fourth down and seven. Eight. Eight. And Kentucky
opt to punt to give Georgia the ball with three minutes to go.
I have seen, I mean, it's 50-50 online.
50 people think it's the wrong call.
50% of the people think it was the right call.
Before we get into it, Billy, what's your take on it?
I think in a vacuum, I could see the argument.
You don't have three, you have four timeouts to stop Georgia with if you include the
two-minute warning.
Very true.
And it's a defense that has done pretty good.
Yes.
All game.
Really good.
But we're not in a vacuum.
And you're playing the number one team in the country.
You're across midfield.
And I think to be able to beat somebody like that,
you've got to have the balls to go for it on fourth and eight.
And honestly, I'm not too mad if they don't get the fourth and eight.
Because even if they allowed a touchdown, Kentucky would still be a one possession game.
So I'm pretty torn, but at the same time, I'm pretty frustrated that the offense didn't have a chance to get that first down.
If how mummy was the coach here, he would have let him score.
There are coaches that believe that.
Then you're down by eight and you just go down the field.
You just go down and score.
Then you score, get a two-pointer, and you tie it up.
Here, my take on it is I was shocked.
Stoops didn't go for it.
I mean, I really was.
I thought the way he has coached.
his whole time here.
And like you said, Billy,
you had the number one team in the country
on your home field, on the ropes,
and you had the ball.
You're in control of the game.
I was honestly,
I was shocked.
But how?
Like, he's known for being conservative.
Like this, like his legacy,
people might look back at this game.
They will.
And overall, this is stoops
and how conservative he is.
They will.
So you're shocked that he didn't go for it.
I was shocked.
I thought just that there was three minutes was the fact of where it was in the game three minutes left
I was I just thought for sure they would go for it well the problem was they stopped running
because remember on that see that's another good point right I mean Demi was great
yeah Brock Vandergriff had a 10 yard run it was second and seven and you're only 12 15 yards away
from being in field goal range and you go incomplete incomplete and I'm a guy that wants them to
throw to number six every single play. I mean every single play. But you're right. They tried to
throw a couple times, had two incomplete passes when Dino Summa Carbé was just killing it. I mean,
he looked like Chris Rodriguez, Benny Snell, Ray Davis there for a while. The guy was awesome. Why not
put the bonnie's hands and let him pick up some more yards? And then you're looking at maybe a
fourth and one or a fourth and two instead of a fourth and eight. And I guess
did I hear correctly coach stoops when he was talking to tom leeds said if it was a shorter distance
he would have absolutely gone for it that he did he say something like that 100% he would have
gone for it if it was less than fourth and eight that's that's what he called fourth and eight well so
I don't know what if it was fourth and five fourth and four fourth and three I don't know man I just
felt like once you gave the ball back to georgia you weren't going to get it back and your your defenses
played great but also you had allowed two long drives
in the second half.
That's true, too.
And 11 play drives in the second half.
Carson Beck started looking like the top draft
pick that he was.
So, yeah, I'm a little frustrated.
Well, you're right.
That's what we're all going to talk about.
And we're all going to remember this game for the punt on fourth and eight with three minutes
to go and you had the ball.
And, you know, there's one touchdown scored in the whole game.
That was it.
One touchdown.
But a reminder, against the number one team in the country and a team that's lost one
game in the last three years.
Yeah.
All those straight regular season wins that this team's won and Kentucky had a chance to do it.
Georgia's lost what was the stat twice in the last three years and both times it was
Alabama in the playoffs, never in the regular season.
And I do want to give a major shout out to our fan base.
Man, they were.
We were a little worried during the pregame show because we kept seeing a lot of red and
we were getting reports that the tailgate was not as maybe what it was for the South
Carolina game.
Dude, our crowd was awesome.
They were loud.
They were loud from the very beginning.
And Zion Childress set the tone early in the game.
We had two big tackles, and our crowd got on their feet.
And I think they stayed on their feet the whole game after that.
So if you went to the game tonight, man, kudos to you.
Because you guys were loud.
You were into the game.
If you're on the way home now, give us a call.
859-280-2287.
That's the Clark's Pump and Shop phone number on KSR.
and is also our postgame phone number here tonight
on the local total ears KSR postgame show.
So we're going to dissect it.
We'll give you your chance.
It's tough, man.
I mean, I've done a lot of these postgame shows
when Matt's been on the road after a tough loss.
And this is up there with one of the toughest ones.
You know, Eric, wouldn't it funny, Billy?
Last week, I was not upset that they lost.
I was upset how they lost.
I've completely flipped this game.
I'm not upset how they lost.
I'm just upset they lost.
Because it was right there.
Yeah, it was.
I was there for the LSU game in 07.
I was not there for obviously the Cotton Bowl game.
No, it was Sugar Bowl.
Sugar Bowl game in 1951 when they beat Oklahoma.
And I think they beat Ole Miss when they were number one in 1664.
There have been three times Kentucky's beat a number one team.
51, 64,07.
Almost 2024.
Almost, Billy.
But you've got to be optimistic.
Maybe they play like that again the rest of the year.
You get back to that bowl.
Well, that's the question we'll have all this week on KSR.
Where are you now in your thoughts about this UK football team?
How do you feel about this UK football team now?
Because last week, you didn't feel very good about them.
You were already wanting to sell your season tickets.
I think they're only going to win three games all year, maybe four.
there's this awful blah blah blah blah they stink blah blah blah okay where are you now a week later
that's going to be the topic of a lot of us talk about all week on ksr and the ksr pre-show
starting our own telephonic systems comptroller billy rutledge and shannon t dude all right
we'll take our break we'll open up the phone lines 859 2802287 local toiler deers ksr postgame
show we'll be right back all right welcome back
Ryan Lemon in for Matt Jones, who's up in Milwaukee with Mario tonight with the ESPN big dogs.
Matt did, had a tweet and said that on that interception said he, I guess, must have screamed out loud and made some noise.
And, of course, the people in the party are looking like, what is wrong with you?
That happens.
You know, you're watching a game.
You're into something to have a big play like that.
859-2-287.
We got phone lines are full.
So what we'll do?
I got a bunch of text messages.
is we'll do a text message and then a call.
How about that?
Then a text message and a call.
Okay.
People I think are maybe too mad to call, but they'll text me.
This one says section 227 was on their feet all night.
Crowd was great all night.
Are we worried about the offense?
No touchdowns in two straight games.
Granted against good defenses, but eight quarters without a touchdown.
Billy, that's got to be concerning a little bit.
Yeah, maybe a little.
Did your opinion change at all when you saw South Carolina,
beat LSU today?
I was pulling for South Carolina.
I kept thinking, man,
okay, they're better than what I thought.
They're better than the America thought,
and they're going to beat LSU,
and that loss won't look as bad.
And then they couldn't hang on.
They blew it.
Got up 17 to nothing on LSU at home and then blew it.
And not even Darius Rucker could help them today.
All right, let's go to the phone lines.
I know we have a lot of people.
We're going to let you talk a little bit, so who we got first, Billy?
Ian.
Ian.
Go ahead, Ian.
Hey Ryan, this is Ian from, originally from Patoka, now in Paducah.
But here's what's frustrating.
And if you get me just a second, the past two games are an exact reflection of why some of us have been frustrated with Mark Stoops for a long time.
And that is because last week we, I think,
historically seen Stoop's overlooking opponent because next week is going to be a big game.
And previously it's always been, you know, poop state teams and we've been able to squeak out of
win.
It's no big deal.
But South Carolina was a different thing.
I understand.
So this week, we obviously show up and we play like the team that we are supposed to be.
And yet the conservative play calls that he has consistently shown that he will do.
time and time again lead us we're right there we are right there ready to just take it and we
don't do it because we just don't make the right plate calls uh you know all we had to do is run
the ball instead of make three straight pass plays uh to and just kick a field goal so we had to do
yeah and we just don't do it i appreciate the phone call i think ian
summed up what a lot of people are feeling right now.
Just that frustrated.
You could hear it in his voice, couldn't you, Billy?
He's just frustrated, man.
He's not really mad.
You're frustrated.
So that goes with this text I wanted to read.
It wasn't the punt in the end of the game.
It was that they tried to throw it on second and third down.
Yeah.
And that's when you're having so much success running the ball
and have had zero success throwing the ball.
I know they completed one to Barry on in the second half,
but Dane didn't get any completions in the second half.
he got three catches in the first half.
The Georgia's secondary guys are NFL guys also.
So you got to go with what works and putting the ball in Dino's hands.
And even with letting Vandergriff run,
those are two best offensive plays all game.
Yeah, and a credit to this offensive line and going out there
and being able to run block the way that they did, right?
You're right.
They really showed us something after a week of just what was brutal from the media,
but I'm sure they weren't happy with at all how they played South Carolina last week.
You know, you're right.
We need to give that offensive line some credit because we were all hard on them all week long.
And they showed up and played great against, like I said, guys that are NFL guys on the other side.
All right.
Who's next, Billy?
Phoenix.
Phoenix.
Phoenix.
A first time, long time.
Is this the Phoenix that I know?
Probably not.
Oh, okay.
All right.
Hey, it's a great game tonight.
I really had much complaints about it that really exceeded my expectations.
But one of the complaints I got right now is we got to do something about not calling blue and white on defense.
We need the whole crowd screaming in unison instead of half the crowd screaming blue, half the crowd screaming white.
I mean, we need everybody screaming their heads off all on defensive possessions.
It's driving me crazy.
So you all got some pool with the UK people.
I'll just like to see if you could help us out on that.
Okay, Fee, appreciate it.
I want to have a hard time saying anything negative about our crowd tonight
because they were awesome.
They were loud.
I mean, you know, when you're sitting at home and you hear how loud the crowd is coming
through the speakers, you know that they, what it's at the stadium is going to be awesome.
So our crowd, I was worried about our crowd after what happened last weekend.
But Billy, I think they showed out and proved to me.
that they still believe in this program and this team.
Well, you're right about Zion Childress.
He made some huge plays in this game.
Set the tone, didn't he?
They got everybody up.
And they got to see the light show during a game that when it mattered, right?
Yeah, Zion Childress, he was on every play to start to get.
Like, George's first possession, like he made a tackle for loss.
He made another open field tackle, batted a pass down.
Like he was everywhere to start the game, wasn't he?
And he was the one that had the interception that went back for a touchdown that was overturned, I believe.
I believe so.
Yeah, that gosh.
See, that's the other player,
everybody's going to talk about too.
Yeah, yeah, it was close.
I think it hit the ground.
But it just goes back to Kentucky
not getting a single break
over the last two weeks.
When is the ball going to bounce their way?
Like Darren said this
when he was standing here with us.
It looked like there's been
at like seven or eight fumbles
in the last two games,
and every one of them went the other way.
Every one of them.
All right, who's next?
Alan.
Go ahead, Alan.
Hey, how you doing, Ryan?
How are you, Alan?
Hey, man, we were two plays away from upsetting one of the best teams in the last 10 years.
Yep.
We were the called back fumble on the Zion play.
And if the Eric Jackson would have picked up the fumble in the fourth quarter,
that would have been a rack.
You know, Alan, we appreciate it.
We've not talked about that play.
Georgia fumbles the ball.
We have some players right there,
and they're busy complaining and looking at the ref
and not falling on the live football.
It rolls in Georgia's favor.
Another role that didn't bounce Kentucky's way.
Georgia falls on it.
Now they recover the fumble,
they get a huge first down in the process.
We had guys that were right there.
Could have fallen on the ball.
all.
I'm kind of like you.
It hurts more than it was so close.
It does.
I've always been
and felt like even when I played
and when I coach my boys and stuff,
a close loss like this,
man, it just eats at you.
That loss like in South Carolina last week.
Yeah, I was upset about it,
but it didn't eat at me like this one tonight's eating at me
because you like you had it.
A huge program changing win.
in your fingertips and just couldn't get the ball to bounce your way one time
or couldn't get in the end zone one time.
Here's a, uh, this is another text from our buddy Darrell.
He said he didn't go for it on fourth and eight,
but said he would have gone for it on fourth and seven.
It's one freaking yard.
First half, you take shots before the half with nine seconds left and you got a field go
out of it.
That's true.
They were kind of aggressive at the end of the first half, set up another field goal.
And how about Rainer?
six, it was six to three at half time, right?
Yes, it was three to three.
It was six to three at half time.
Rainer not only hit the 55 yarder.
He hits the one right before halftime.
Comes out, first drive of the second half made a big field goal.
Yes.
Dude was awesome.
That guy, you know, he broke Austin McGuinness's school record.
Dude, you know, he's like in the kicker Mount Rushmore here at Kentucky.
So now his Rainer bumped off Austin McGinnis and the kicker Hall of Fame?
Well, we may forget the performance because of in a loss,
but that guy has been automatic and a little bit of revenge for him.
I think he came from Georgia originally.
He grew up in Georgia, went to Georgia Southern,
and then transferred here to Kentucky.
Let's get another call.
Who we got?
Ethan.
Ethan. Go ahead, Ethan.
Hey, Ethan.
So, if you don't mind, I'd like to just talk directly and Mark Stoops here for a second.
All right.
Don't cuss.
Stoops.
soups you are at the point where people are wondering what your buyout is.
If you are in a position where you can make people completely forget about last weekend
and have one of the biggest wins of not only maybe the program,
but if not so, his coaching tenure easily, you go for it on fourth and eight.
Even if you don't get it, your defense has been rocking on all cylinders tonight.
They get it on the 50-yard line versus getting it on the 20.
I don't understand.
And didn't we last week go for it on 4th Allen on our own 30?
It just doesn't make any sense to me.
I know.
That's why I was kind of shocked.
He didn't go for it tonight.
I really was.
And that's the thing.
We've had coaches in the past where I feel like if it's that game in 2017,
it's LSU, we go for it because that is, it's a once-in-a-generational win.
And at what point does something change?
He's obviously on the hot seat, but you would think he, if we go for it on fourth and eight, and we don't get it, nobody faults him for that game.
You can't say that he didn't give it his own.
But now it's the complete opposite, and we're right back where we were last week, even though we just lost the number one team in the nation.
But it almost feels like we lost by 40.
It's just a kick and the gut.
Ethan, great, Ethan, great phone call.
Great phone call.
And he's right.
a lot of things that he said.
And, you know, kind of echoed
to what I was saying about.
I'm just, you know, the way he's been,
I was so shocked that he didn't go for it right then.
And it does hurt.
I mean, there's no other way around it.
You feel like you had like this win that could have just,
think of what this post game show would be like right now if they'd won the game.
I'd be down at KS Bar.
I'd probably be up on top of the bar with my shirt off.
That's what I was going to say.
Squirting champagne on people.
We'd be celebrating.
State Street will be rocking over there
But tonight, then we're all now, tonight we're all going home,
hanging our heads down,
listening to this sappy music
And all of us complain on the post game show.
How about this one?
I got to read you this one too, Billy.
This is from Doug in Section 30.
Okay.
Crowd was incredible.
So much juice.
I'm more frustrated than I was last Saturday.
Our coach not having the stones to try it and win the game
in plus territory is so Mark's dues.
Not just the fourth and seven,
but kicking a field goal with 10 seconds left in a half.
on first down and not throwing one in the end zone before the field goal.
That is true.
Even Greg McElroy said, you know, why don't they just take a shot at the end zone here?
You're still going to have time to get the field goal unit out and go ahead and try the field goal then right before half time.
Yeah, I think Stoops talked about that post game as well.
I think he went back to the numbers historically over the last three or four years.
People just aren't completing passes in the red zone against that Georgia defense.
Maybe you could say that's coaching scared.
But, you know, maybe they have a penalty.
It's a 10 second runoff.
then you get zero points and you're gutted going into the locker.
But it was conservative stoops again, no matter how you look at it.
859-280-2287.
Who we got next?
Lance.
Lance.
Lance.
Go ahead, Lance.
Yeah, Ryan, everybody's talking about the fourth and eight on every side of the field in the fourth quarter,
but I kind of want to reiterate what you just read on a message you got.
I cannot believe we did not take a shot at the end zone at the end of the first half.
when we had 10 seconds left, how do we not try to do something there?
It was clear we were playing for a field goal the entire time.
I don't understand that.
Yeah, it's such as it was first down.
Might as well just take one shot, man.
You got, you got Dane over there, just throw him a jump ball in the corner maybe one time and go for it.
And then you still have time to come back and kick the field goal.
Absolutely.
Throw a fade rock to him or barion or something.
Just do something.
Just give the fans some kind of excitement to show that you were trying to win.
this game instead of playing it safe.
Lance, we appreciate it.
I appreciate Mark's
emotion after the game
on the post game show.
You could tell you was hurting.
You could tell you was disappointed.
You could tell you was frustrated.
That's not like we get in basketball the last several years
where the guy who was here was like,
now I get to go home and feed my dog.
Oh, well, you know, I get to go home and watch
Alaskan TV.
No, I want my coach to hurt.
And Stoops is hurting.
You know?
Little House on the Prairie.
Little House on the Prairie.
What was that Alaskan show he used to watch?
Alaskan bush hunters or something.
He said he used to watch.
To add insult to injury, you know, there was a mistargeting call right before the decision to not go for it.
Yeah.
At the end of the first half, Stoops was screaming at the ref.
It was helmet-to-helmet contact.
Clearly forgot about that.
I really don't know what targeting is.
Yeah.
We could spend a whole show on how refs don't even know what targeting is, I think.
But McElroy, he even said it there when they showed the replay.
It's like, oh, yeah, you can tell it to his shoulder.
It went right into the face mask.
So then you're on the one compared to, you know, middle of the red zone at that point.
This is from my friend, Sarah.
Hi, Ryan, listening to the postgame show.
Maybe I'm alone on this, but I'm not sad.
Do I wish we won?
Yes.
I don't get punning in the fourth, but also I have hope again about this season.
After last week, I thought for sure we had no hope.
This way I'm excited for what's to come.
that's going to be how we are, I think, this rest of the week.
Where are you now with this UK football team?
Where's your head now?
What's your feeling now?
Those people who said they were going to sell their season tickets,
I hope you didn't, and I hope you're going to go back every home game now the rest of the year.
People said they weren't going to win more than two or three games.
I hope you now realize that was probably a wrong prediction.
Where are you now, Billy?
Encouraged.
Absolutely.
I am too.
Absolutely encouraged.
Okay.
Where were you when you and Matt did this post-game show?
last Saturday night.
Lost.
Completely lost.
Embarrassed.
Defeated.
Like, why are we playing the rest of the season defeated?
I wasn't thinking negatively about the rest of the season,
but I was feeling negatively about them for sure Saturday night,
how just the effort was not there.
The fight wasn't there.
Dude, they came to fight tonight.
The boys brought it tonight from the opening possession.
You could tell they came to fight tonight.
Well, their manhood got tested, right?
Yeah.
You had to respond.
You had to respond after that last game.
But, you know, Florida may not have a head coach by the time Kentucky plays them.
You still got Ohio, Murray State, a down-awburn team.
Vandy, they got beat by Georgia State today.
Vandy, Louisville at the end.
But speaking of Florida, you know, they have called, there's reports out there,
a board of regents meeting,
emergency meeting tomorrow morning.
Oh, you know what that's about.
That can't be good for Billy Napier, Billy.
That can't be,
they're getting together to give him a raise.
Yeah, they were chanting Fire Billy,
I think, in Gainesville today.
Fire Billy on their home field
after Texas A&M ran them off the field today.
So yeah, Florida may not have a,
they have an interim coach when we play them.
They may have an interim coach this week.
You want to take one more before we break?
Whatever you want to do.
Yeah.
You're the producer.
You are the telephonic systems comptroller.
I appreciate whatever the title that was from JMI this evening.
So who we got?
Chris.
Chris, go ahead, Chris.
Hey, what's up, Ryan, man?
I was actually a country boy at the breakfast the other day and met you guys.
I told you Kentucky was going to come to play.
They came to play.
Plus seven and a half is what I called it.
And I tell you what, I took a lot of heat for this.
but Vandergriff outperformed Beck tonight
totally outperformed Beck
it was Kentucky's game all the way through and through
and it was raining threes in Lexington
and not on the basketball court
uh appreciate it Chris yeah
a lot of threes nobody could get in the end zone
their kicker and Alex Rainer just taking turns
banging them in from everywhere
but yeah for those of you who've bet
Kentucky at least to cover
draft Kings uh has
to pay out quite a bit tonight, I think, because I was one of those myself, Bill.
Did you bet him to cover?
The cats?
Yeah.
No.
Oh, I did.
You did?
Yes, I did.
Nice work.
Well, we talked, I talked myself into it during the pregame show when Adam Luckett said, you know, Kirby Smart's not one of those guys when he gets ahead.
He doesn't put his foot down the gas pedal.
He kind of pulls it off the gas pedal.
And then we all realized, well, they do have Alabama next.
So maybe they're overlooking us a little bit.
So maybe it'll be maybe just a three touchdown game and be,
be under the spread.
That was my thinking anyway.
Yeah.
I didn't think it was going to be 13 to 12.
I should have bet the under.
Everybody should have bet the under.
All right.
Well, take our break.
Come back.
859, 280, 2-287.
859-2-80 Cats.
Ryan and Billy.
Cats lose a tough one.
13-12 to Georgia.
We'll be right back.
All right, welcome back.
Ryan Lemon in for Matt Jones.
Billy R. Sports here as well.
The telephonic systems comptroller.
Kentucky lose a tough one.
1312 to Georgia, number one, Georgia, the overall best program in the country, Georgia,
the team that's won 70, 41 games in a row. The team has beat Kentucky 15 times in a row.
They lose by 1.1312. We'll go back to the phone lines, but we're trying to read a lot of these
texts that are coming in as well because there are some really good ones. And I know people
are more comfortable maybe texting their frustration than saying on the phone. So this guy says,
Billy, can't disagree with you and Billy Moore, man. All these basketball bennies are showing their
lack of football knowledge griping about fourth and eight.
You got three timeouts and the two minute warning.
It's a field position game at that point.
You can't gripe at him about being conservative there and the same breath say he should
have run the ball more.
I'm Team Stoops forever.
He is UK football now.
Stoops runs his program like an NFL team.
His conservative play calling kept Kentucky in the game and maybe that's to a T what the
pun on fourth and eight was.
But it's not a field position game at that point.
You've got to win the game.
Even if they score again, it's still a one possession game.
And like we said earlier, and they were having some success running the ball.
Okay, so why did they throw it on second down and third down?
Just go ahead and try to run the ball, try to move the chains a little bit more.
Both DSK and Wilcox averaged over four and a half yards per carry tonight.
Didn't even mention him.
Wilcox was awesome too.
Two scholarship running backs on the roster tonight.
They brought their lunch.
and played, I'm trying not to cuss,
played really, really, really hard.
They did.
I thought we would see Gavin Wimpsett tonight,
mainly because his running ability.
But, you know, Van der Gryph was playing so well,
I don't think you could take him out.
And Dimo and Wilcox,
they were running the ball so well.
You couldn't take them out.
So those two guys carried the lobe.
All right, who's our first caller this segment?
How about Seth, a Georgia fan?
Seth, a Georgia fan,
is he calling to rub it in?
We'll see.
All right, Seth.
Go ahead.
Hey, Ryan, no.
Not calling to rub it in at all.
Really, I'm in an awkward position because I'm a Kentucky resident,
have been for a long time, but my first experience,
college football was at Sanford Stadium.
I heard Georgia fan, but also cheer for UK as long as they don't play Georgia.
My parents are season ticket holders at UK.
That's the loudest I've ever heard of that stadium in night.
It was so loud.
my son got a headache and we had to leave in the first quarter.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
I just want to say that from like a co-fan point of view, there's no reason Kentucky should hold their head tonight.
You guys took the most talented team in the roster to the last play of the game.
South Carolina was a fluke.
That's just plain and simple.
When the game gets out of hand and the ball bounces a couple different ways, it's hard to bounce back from that.
And that's just football.
If you've watched it long enough, you know that's true.
As a Georgia fan, I'm really glad we got a bye week next week before we go to Tuscaloosa.
As a Kentucky fan, I couldn't be prouder of how the team responded.
For those of you that are stoop's naysayers, I just want to say the reason you keep him as your coach is the difference in mentality from last week to this week.
This team was ready to play.
This team dominated the line of scrimmage.
The ball didn't bounce their way a couple times.
You all didn't get a couple calls.
It's tough.
You played a more talented team.
It is what it is.
But there's no reason this Kentucky team can't win seven or eight more games.
There's no reason that anybody in Big Blue Nation should hold their heads.
As a co-card carrying member of Big Blue Nation, I'm extremely proud of the team.
And go cats the rest of the way, go dogs the rest of the way.
What a wonderful game, wonderful environment.
Don't hold your heads.
That's all I got.
Well, thank you, Seth.
Appreciate the phone call.
How about that?
How about it?
It takes a Georgia Bulldog fan to pull us up from our bootstraps
and make us feel better about our team and ourselves.
and our coach and everything.
That call alone made me feel a little better, Billy.
How about you?
You know, Seth is just glad both teams had fun tonight.
I wonder if he had a blue shirt on under his Georgia stuff
just in case it went the other way.
Well, if his parents are UK season ticket holders,
they're obviously UK fans.
How did he grow up a big Georgia fan there?
How about this one?
Another text that came in.
Yeah.
We won the Freddie Middle Eights,
which is true.
That's something that Freddie was very critical about
when he would do the pregame shows with us over the years,
not play well at the end of the first half,
and then not play well to open the second half.
They scored on both possessions.
They scored to close the first half.
They scored their first drive of the second half.
And if I'm not mistaken against Southern Miss,
I think they did the same thing.
So maybe we're,
maybe that's one thing we can be optimistic about.
We're playing better, Billy, in the middle eight.
11 play 61-yard drive.
You kick a field goal, you go up 9 to 3 in the third quarter.
Nine to three.
It's the number one team in the country.
Yeah.
And then I think you get some goosebumps.
You start to say, is this real?
That's when I was texting my buddy.
And I texted him.
I said, I can't let myself accept what's happening right now.
Because they were.
They're up 9 to 3 and you get excited.
Like, man, the defense is playing so good.
We held Georgia without a touchdown for the whole first half.
Then they convert on a second and 20.
They convert on a third and four.
they get a field goal up, and then UK goes three and out, and then Georgia finds the momentum.
And I will say this too about our offense, much better on third down.
You said we didn't have that third and four.
We converted a lot of third downs tonight.
I don't know what the number is.
Maybe you can find it somewhere.
On third down, I felt like we were really.
Nine of 16.
I mean, that's better than what we usually get.
That's pretty good.
Yeah, heck yeah.
Usually we're like four of 16 or something.
like that. What did you think of Brock?
I thought he played pretty well.
I thought he didn't make any of the tentative throws that we saw him make against
South Carolina.
Maybe it's because he was playing Georgia.
He knows those guys.
He had a little something extra that he wanted to prove to probably do the Georgia guys.
But I thought he, you know, if I had to give him a grade, maybe a B.
Made some good throws.
He did make some good throws.
Made one costly mistake.
He made one bad mistake.
Strip sack led to points for Georgia early in.
the game. And you heard McElroy say, you know, he's got a hold it with two hands.
He's back there. He's holding it with one hand and they knocked it right out of his hand there.
Who's next to Matt? Matt. Matt, go ahead, Matt.
Hey, shout out to the telephonics and communications, maestro, Billy.
Thank you.
Two things. I texted, I was at the game tonight. I texted a buddy in the third quarter.
And I said, I'm waiting for Kentucky to become Kentucky.
and I'm waiting for Georgia to become Georgia
and neither one happened.
It was like neither one wanted to win the game.
It was a weird thing to watch.
And to your point earlier about the goosebumps,
dude, I'm telling you, hair on my arms and legs standing up
late in the game.
It was crazy.
So, yeah, I was waiting on both to happen.
Neither one did.
It was almost like neither one wanted to win the game.
but here we are.
It was a fun game to watch.
And yeah, that's awesome.
All right. Appreciate it, Matt.
Thanks very much.
Yeah, that's what I think he was kind of like what I was.
I was like I've texted my buddy.
He said, I'm not going to let myself accept what's happening right now.
Because you do start believing.
You're up nine to three and this is the number one team in the country.
Yeah, your defense is playing so well.
You've kept them out of the end zone.
I mean, surely we'll get a break here or there.
We'll get a ball bounce our way one or two times.
just never happened.
It just didn't happen tonight.
Not tonight.
No.
Who's next, Billy?
Jerry.
Jerry, go ahead, Jerry.
Hey, yeah.
First off, I want to say that I think the coaching was a lot better this week and last week,
because I think a lot of what happened last week was coaching.
I think we had a lot better this week and gave you a lot of encouragement for the rest of the season.
But for those who want to criticize stoops, you know, they're at the end of the half.
If you get a sack or tackling bounds and the clock runs out,
then everybody's saying he's stupid for not kicking the field goal.
And so he did the smart thing.
And at the end of the game, it's not only with fourth and seven,
as fourth and seven you had four timeouts.
And you everybody likes to play analytics.
You look at the analytics.
The analytics would be you have a better chance of putting the ball
with four timeouts, getting the ball back about your own 30
than you did of what happened with the way the defense was playing.
But once again, that was the number one defense in the country.
And what Stewart said in the post game wasn't like to have been fourth and six.
he was kind of like they did him like fourth and three or four
they might have gone for it so
I mean right now my view is
if they play like the day tonight
they could win the rest of the games in their schedule
if they play like that did last week
they can except for Ohio and
Murray State they can lose you the rest of the games
in their schedule so you know you got to feel better
about the rest of the season after night
although it is you know it is really disappointing
Jerry we appreciate it so that like I said
Billy that's the question we're going to have all this week
will the real slim, shady, please stand up?
What's the real Kentucky team?
Is it what we saw against South Carolina,
or is what we saw the night against Kentucky?
Yeah, I don't know.
Maybe South Carolina's defensive line is that good.
Maybe.
And they just dominated Kentucky early,
and then that's football,
kind of like the caller said,
it snowballs into a poor performance.
But I think they showed me a lot responding like that.
Didn't they to you, Ryan?
The old line definitely did.
They responded to all the criticism,
and I think they had something to prove tonight, and they did.
I think our defense had something to prove tonight, and they did.
Secondary, I don't remember any of the glaring mistakes or anything.
Made some big legs Zion Children's, but we already talked about him.
Ty Bryant had a massive play one time.
Overall, how do I think the team, I think we may not play.
It's going to be tough to keep a team out of the end zone in the SEC
when you got Tennessee and Ole Miss and Texas coming up.
But why not?
You could do that, play that way against the other teams and win those games.
The defense could maybe win those games for you.
Boy, you're right about Tennessee.
Did you see their game tonight?
Was it 71 to nothing?
Is that what it was?
It was 65 to 0 at halftime.
They actually asked Kent State if they wanted to go to reduced quarters and a running clock.
And Kent State said no.
I kind of respect that.
I don't want you to embarrass me.
I'm going to play.
We're going to play.
we're going to man up, we're going to play you.
I don't want to send a message to my players that I'm embarrassed
and I want to try to get out here before you run up a bunch of points on us.
It was 30 to nothing in the first quarter in Tennessee went surprise onside kick.
Oh, did they really?
Well, that's why the Kent State coach was all ticked off.
He was mad from them doing an onside kick and you're up 30 to nothing.
No, we'll play it out.
We'll play it out.
We're going to kick you in the mouth.
Here's one more text, and we'll take another phone call.
Okay.
Is there a reason Barion is not returning punch this year like he did last year?
I'm confused about that.
I'm kind of the same way.
I mean, I don't know if they're just trying to give him a break, trying to, you know,
when he's out there, teams don't punt to him.
You know, they try to just get a fair catch all the time or kick it out of bounds.
I don't have an answer for that.
Do you?
I don't, no.
But the receivers have not lived up to their expectations this year.
No. I said Dane had three catches in the first half.
Barry and I know had one in the second half. Maclin had one in the second half.
Fred Ferrier had one, but they called it out of bounds, right?
That was tough. That was another, why didn't it go our way?
Toll was on the out of bounds line.
I don't remember did Anthony Brown Stevens catch any? I'm not thinking.
He had a sweep one time. That was a running. Yeah. That was a run.
All right. Who's next, Billy? Bones.
Bones. Go ahead, Bones.
Ryan, I love KSR.
I'm a huge fan, but I'm going to have to hurt some feelings,
and then I'm going to pick you guys up by you butt buckles.
What was your prediction for the game today?
Your final score?
27 to 10, I think.
Okay, we're playing the number one team in the country.
We're having an offensive line that's 75% freshman
against the best defensive line in the country,
and we lose a one-point game.
Granted, we made a one-point game.
one mistake and got some bad cause.
But even if at full strength without our running back, without all of our alignment,
we could have to play a perfect game to win that game and we lose by one,
y'all better stand up, son.
These freshmen showed out and showed off.
And if they played like half of what they played with these freshmen,
we're winning six or seven more games easy.
Let's give what credit where credits do.
We stood up, we showed out, and we showed them we're not a lot of chunks.
It's time to stand up, guys.
Let's go.
I hope there are more people like bones out there.
I really do.
They're now encouraged of what they saw tonight
and enthusiastic about the rest of the season
and not this stuff we had this past week, Billy.
I'm going to sell my season tickets.
We're only going to beat the three stinky teams
and maybe Vandy, four wins, tops.
I don't want to hear any of that anymore.
Yeah, I mean, that's, I think,
probably the biggest takeaway of the game
is them responding to that adversity.
They didn't respond very well against South Carolina.
And then you saw them come out and put on a performance like that.
It kind of reinvigorates, I'm sure, some that were ready to sell season tickets.
Yes, yeah.
Well, there was a lot of red in there tonight.
And it was because I think a lot of people sold their tickets.
They didn't want to go.
Shame, shame, shame, don't you wish you to have been there for that?
As a heck of an atmosphere, heck of an environment.
Didn't on those wide shots they took, didn't, didn't Crografield look beautiful.
I did.
It looked beautiful.
It looked awesome.
All right.
Do you need to take a break?
We've got to take one on.
We'll take another call.
Let's take one.
All right.
We got.
Bo.
Bo. Go ahead, Bo.
What's going on, Ryan?
How are you, Bo?
Pretty good, man.
Dude, talk about taking the prom queen to the dance and somebody else sneaking in and taking the last dance from you.
Man, that was tough, man.
That was real tough.
But you asked the question earlier about how do you judge his team or how do you look at it.
It's hard to judge at it looking at it from what the three games.
You got a game that he's a game that he's.
ends at half time or third quarter lightning delay last week and then this week I mean the
defense played lights out tonight but it's almost like last week they were looking ahead to
Georgia all the headlines were saying college game day coming to town yeah and then you look at
that it's it's pretty hard to to see tonight appreciate it bow you know that's why it hurt
south carolina beat us they took our game day away from us then you we watch them on TV and they go
down 17 to nothing.
They go up 17 to nothing on LSU.
It just kind of made it sting a little worse for us.
But I hope a lot of people are like Bones and Bow that they're feeling better about the team,
about this season.
You know,
winning at Florida,
you should get that.
You should be able to beat Auburn here at home,
Vandy at home,
Murray State, Ohio,
Louisville at home.
I don't know about those other three games,
Tennessee,
Ole Miss, and Texas on the road.
But by God, you just took the number one team
had it went down to the last play of the game.
I think you can compete against anybody.
I think that's the mindset you have to have.
It's the mindset you've got to have.
That's right, Billy.
All right.
Is this is it?
We'll take our last break.
Yeah, take our last break.
Last segment, 859, 2802-287.
Cats lose a tough one, man.
13 to 12 to Georgia,
over at Kroger Field.
God bless all you fans were there
because you made it a great environment for everybody.
We'll be right back and wrap it up here
on the local Toyota dealers, KSR Postgame Show.
Final segment.
local total dudeers ksr postgame show
Ryan and Billy in for Matt
got some great text messages
some great tweets
calls this are we got a full bank of calls for this final
segment so we'll try to do one text
one call again this is my buddy Nick
says this reminds me of the Tennessee game when
Stoops didn't go for it on fourth down
you know
he did say after the South Carolina game
that he went with analytics
that's why he went for it on fourth down
but from here on now he was going to go with these
gut. I mean, I guess maybe he felt it didn't feel like it, that it was going to work for him.
Well, he said it would have been, if it was less than fourth and eight or fourth and seven,
then he would have gone for it. So Matt says on Twitter, you guys have to add the tipped
interception opportunity that went through Jordan Levitt's hands into the Georgia receiver's hands.
Another example of why didn't the ball bounce our way. It did. It went right through Loveitt's
hands, right into the Georgia guy's hands and he made the catch. All right, who's our next caller?
Nick, Nick, go ahead, Nick.
Hey, guys.
I don't know how to feel about this.
On one hand, our defense is really good.
On the other hand, I don't trust our offense.
So I feel like if we get behind more than 10 points to anybody,
I'm not sure we're going to be able to come back.
Also, I'm a Steelers fan, so I've watched 12 quarters of football,
and all I've seen is my team's kick field goals.
I'd like to hit touchdown tomorrow, hopefully.
But I'm, I think, right now I think we go 7 and 5.
I'm way more optimistic than I was last week.
I was one of those fans that sold all of my season tickets and now I kind of regret it.
Oh, shame, shame, shame.
Yeah, I know.
I'll be back next year and I'll probably end up buying tickets,
trying to buy my tickets back.
Yeah, but, but I think, I don't know, I think, it's crazy how much better
run blocking we are than past blocking.
But against the lesser teams
who struggle to score, I think
we could just, maybe we can just
run it. And I don't,
I'm not sure. I don't know how to feel
about it. All right, Nick, appreciate it. Thanks for the phone call.
Shame, shame, shame on Nick.
Sold those season tickets. Now he wishes he had them back, Billy.
I don't think he's alone. Shame, shame, shame.
This is from Randolph on Twitter.
Stoop's coaching tonight may be frustrating, but he represents
the closest we've come so far to beating
Georgia. Even if Stoops goes three and nine and gets fired after this season, then Kentucky
is guaranteed to never get a win against Georgia ever again.
Georgia. Didn't Rich Brooks beat Georgia?
In 2009. That's the last time Kentucky beat him when Morgan Newton went down there as our
quarterback and Randall Cobb scored a touchdown. Two touchdowns.
Two touchdowns, okay. And they beat Georgia with Rich Brooks in 2009.
Stoops, I felt like though, has definitely narrowed the gap.
and Vince Merrill said on this radio show many times.
We've jumped, we've crossed a lot of hurdles,
we've done things this program has never done before,
but we still have to prove we can go out and beat Georgia.
Had a chance tonight, Billy.
They sure did.
I had a chance.
Who's next?
Steve.
Steve, go ahead, Steve.
Hey guys.
I just wanted to tell everybody tonight,
you know, Stoops made the right calls.
At halftime, analytics say against Georgia,
you don't take that extra shot at the,
end zone you kick the field goal and that's why he said at fourth and seven he would have went
for it but fourth and eight he doesn't that's analytics so we can't be mad at him for doing the
analytics when that's what we want uh also the the the freshman off on the offensive line played
much better tonight uh maybe they need to keep playing they looked great and uh the last thing
to beat a team that hasn't lost a game in 40 plus games you have to get
one of the bounces to go your way, the interception, one of the fumbles.
I saw three plays tonight where on offense, we got our helmets ripped off and we didn't
get any face mask penalties.
And the targeting penalty when we got hit in the head, you need something like that
to go your way if you're going to be a team like Georgia.
You're right.
You're absolutely right.
Steve, appreciate it.
Yeah, this Seth on Twitter says, Georgia fumbling the ball forward for a first down and
helps them win the game.
That's so Kentucky football.
That's, it's right.
It's just how things have gone, especially these last two games.
Every bounce would go the other way or if there was a break it needed to be made.
It was against Kentucky.
I forgot about that.
That was the last drive.
And they fumbled forward.
Fumbled it forward.
And then got the first down because they recovered.
And that's what the one call I was talking about.
We had a player was right standing right there that maybe if he was paying attention could have
fallen on the football, but he was kind of looking at the ref complaining at the time.
So, all right, it's getting another phone call.
Who we got?
Red.
Red.
Go ahead, Red.
Hey, what's up, guys?
How are you?
How are you, Red?
I'm all right.
Look, I don't know how to feel about tonight.
A little disappointed, but, and I'm not a moral victory type of guy,
but I think what I'm the most disappointed about tonight, quite honestly, is the callers.
I mean, let's look in the mirror, like last weekend.
I mean, we thought there was a.
chance that we win three or four games we beat murray stayed in ohio yeah like that was a legit
chance like we were on the edge of the bridge we wanted to fire stoops like i'm disappointed in us guys
i mean are you kidding me like we took georgia we had a chance to be georgia we lost about one
point like i'm i am so frustrated that we lost this game but i mean come on like is there really
a game on the schedule now the fact that we took
it to the line that we don't think we have a shot to win.
I mean, we 100% need to make some changes.
We need to, you know, step up.
You know, there's some things I would have done differently than stoops.
But, I mean, come on.
Like, like, can we just look back seven days ago and look where we were?
We thought we were going to, we thought we could win three more games.
And we took a team that had not, has not lost a regular season.
game in 41 games and we took them to the wire.
Amen.
I mean, yeah, dude, I'm not a moral victory guy.
Like, this sucks.
Like, sucks.
I'm so frustrated we lost.
But come on.
Like, let's get some perspective here.
Like, this is insane that anybody is upset and like, like, okay, fine.
Like, be upset for 24 hours.
I get it.
But, like, I hope that every UK fan in the world wakes up tomorrow morning and is really
pleased with where we are. And if they're not,
then, you know, I don't know, maybe they should take some more cornbread hemp or something.
I have no idea. But come on now.
Reda, good call. Let's go. Let's go. Appreciate it. Yeah. Great, great call. He's right.
I hope there are more people. I hope most of the fan base, Billy, are like Red that can see
the forest through the trees and see that this is still a good football team. They're as good as we
thought it was bad against South Carolina, but this is a good football team that can still
win a lot of games this year. Yeah, offense is going to start scoring some touchdowns. You're
going to have to if you're going to want to win some of these. But he's right. I mean,
you could be a Florida state fan right now. Could be a Florida state fan or a Florida fan.
That's right. This is from Patrick on Twitter. Majority of Big Blue Nation would be looking at this
game differently if we won last week against South Carolina. Oh yeah. Absolutely.
100%. Absolutely. If we had beaten South Carolina, game day would have been here. And you play
Georgia to a one-point game, you're thinking that maybe you can go 10 and 2 again.
Oh, yeah, we can beat Ole Miss.
We can win every game and maybe sneak up and beat Texas.
Stoves normally has a clunker, right?
That was it.
Was South Carolina the clunker?
That was the clunker.
It's already over.
Everything is positive from here on out.
Who's next, Billy?
Duane.
Duane.
Go ahead, Duane.
Ron, you just said it.
This is a Billy R's for the post-game show.
It is.
That's right.
It is.
Yes. If we would have won last week and this week had happened, that's what we've been saying.
But we didn't win last week, and this week we played one point.
So I think we just need to keep looking forward. The game we had tonight, that's what we are.
This is the team we are. We may have had, there was a couple of penalties that we should have had that didn't go our way.
when we got the 15-yard face-mast penalty
when our guy got his helmet ripped off
and we got our face-mast penalty
that should have been an offsetting
and it didn't happen
but now we've got to look forward
and we can beat every team on the schedule
the rest of the season
we can win out
because there ain't nobody that we're going to play
any better than Georgia the rest of the season
we played them to a one-point game
and we had a chance.
We had a chance to beat them, and it didn't happen,
but we've got to look forward,
and we can win out the rest of the season,
and we can go to the playoffs.
This team is good.
We had a clunker last week, like you said,
but we can win out,
and this team is marked for destiny,
and we can win out,
and we can win every single game left on our schedule this year.
There's not a game left on our schedule.
other than Tennessee is going to be the hardest game left on our schedule,
and then we can go down there and we can beat them.
Duane, you got it going, man.
Appreciate it.
Thanks to the phone call.
Duane's got us going to the playoffs.
He's so encouraged about what he saw tonight.
To heck with that South Carolina game.
You almost beat Georgia.
You can win out and go to the playoffs.
And if they went out, they would go to the playoffs.
That would be a lot.
I hope it happens.
I hope it happens too.
It would be awesome.
That's a pretty tough road to.
climb. Daniel Reefer tweets
in said don't forget Brooks also beat Georgia
in 2006 in Lexington.
That was when we tore the goalpost down.
Beat Georgia and we tore
the goalpost down in 06
and then went 09 in Athens and beat him
with Morgan Newton and his quarterback. All right, who's next?
I got two more. Two more. Ian.
Ian, go ahead, Ian.
Hey, I feel like when you look
at last week that they maybe
had some speed off the edge
against our O line and I feel like that's what we
struggle with because when you look at Georgia,
I feel like we match up well against their play style.
They're just a more talented version than us.
So I was wondering what you guys think about that.
And how many other teams on the schedule have a speedy type rush on the edge?
And I'll hang up and listen.
I don't have that answer.
I don't know.
But you're right.
South Carolina's got that freshman, that dude, who lit LSU up today doing the same thing.
The dude, if he was eligible for the NFL draft, he'd be a first round pick this year.
I think he's that good.
Stewart is that his name?
Stuart, yes, thank you.
That's his name.
You saw the video clip after our South Carolina game.
We triple teamed him one time.
He still got through and got to the quarterback.
The dude is awesome.
So I had to answer your question, Ian, I don't know who else has speedy ends like that
that we're going to face coming up.
That's a question for Nick and Adam Luckett and those guys that fall a little bit more
closer than I do.
There were a few injuries to the Georgia defensive line.
So they were definitely not at full strength.
That's true.
And I think they even had one to.
in the game.
A couple things I want to bring out before we get out of here.
I only have one more call.
UK definitely, in my opinion, won the line of scrimmage, both sides of the football.
I never thought I would have said that going into the game.
But I think, really, Kentucky won the game up front.
And that's why they were able to have a little success today.
Well, that's part of the reason why we were so frustrated after South Carolina,
it because the talent is there.
You know, it's just said it's about the coaching staff,
putting them in the right positions to succeed.
The all,
and I think there's another good, interesting stat.
The only time Georgia got into Kentucky territory,
well, the first time was when Brock fumbled it
and they recovered it on the 23,
that was their first time they were in our territory.
And like their offense didn't get into Georgia territory
until like the second half.
That's how good our defense.
was tonight. I don't know what happened
last week against South Carolina while they had
trouble defensively and made
some mistakes, but that defense tonight
dude, dude,
the Rainer dude,
Dumas Johnson, Derek Jackson,
JJ Weaver, those guys in the middle,
man, those linebackers, they were awesome tonight.
And the guys up front, Silver,
Oxendine, of course, Big Dion,
who am I missing? Oh, Ripka.
Ripka had a big player. Yes, he did. Those guys were
all awesome.
So, all right, we have one more caller.
Chuck.
Chuck, you're our last caller.
Bring it home for us.
Hey, Chuck.
I'm a younger Kentucky football fan, and I went to the game tonight.
And to piggyback off what you said earlier in the show, talking about how the punt was what we're
going to remember, I disagree.
I had the game, you know, I heard the Georgia fans go bark and like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
And I feel like, we earned it.
a little bit of respect, not just from
Georgia fans, but from
football fans all across America.
Even though we lost, it was
a one-point game, and I've got to say, I'm proud of it.
I stay the whole game, I stay, my Kentucky home.
I stay my Kentucky home against South Carolina.
And I have to say, I'm proud.
I'm proud of what we came from, just from last week.
Chuck, that's a great call to end on.
That's a great call, and I hope there's a lot more fans like you,
man, that are that way, that feel that way
after leaving the stadium tonight.
At the end of the game, when people were walking out, were people pretty optimistic, do you think?
I mean, they started walking out before we even got the ball back.
And people, they just, they gave up.
I mean, for usual.
Yeah.
It's sad to see.
It's sad to see, you know.
Well, we look forward to having you back there next Saturday at noon against Ohio.
Yeah, sir.
All right, brother.
Appreciate it.
Be safe going on.
That's our last caller, Chuck.
We ended up with some good collars there, Billy.
That last segment made me feel a little better about what we just went through tonight
in the gut punch that we took from Georgia losing one point.
One point.
One point to the number one team in the country.
One point to the number one team in the country.
You're that close to a program changing win that could have changed everything.
Recruiting the national playoff scene, ESPN,
what they were led with that game all night.
tonight, all day, tomorrow.
You were that close.
That close. Just couldn't get a break
and just couldn't get it done. Couldn't get it
in the end zone. Well, unlike last time,
there's a lot to build on.
There is a lot to build on.
And somehow, we've played eight
straight quarters in the SEC and not
scored a touchdown.
That's got to change.
Come on, Bush. So we won't be able to have a chance
to score a SEC touchdown until the
Ole Miss game. We got Ohio.
Is there by week then?
and then Ole Miss?
Yeah, I'm not sure.
I think there's a by week coming up somewhere pretty soon.
All right, that's going to do it.
We appreciate all our phone calls.
You made me feel better.
You guys had called in and kind of commiserated with all of us
because it was a tough one.
It's a tougher for all UK fans to have to walk away tonight
knowing you had a chance to make history.
You came up one point short.
So for our telephonic systems comptroller,
Billy R. Sports.
Thank you.
