It is late at night, and we are here in Windsor, Colorado, after the Kentucky Wildcats lose 70 to 66 at Clemson. in a disappointing performance. 859-280-2-287. We got our full house here. We got Drew, we got Ryan, we got Shannon, we got Max. I'll give you a quick two or three-minute rundown and let these guys talk. 859-2-80-2287.

We watched the game in Fort Collins, had a big crowd of Kentucky fans come. So thank you to the folks who came, probably 40, some people come to a town in the middle of Colorado to watch a game with us. So that was a lot of fun. And the game itself, Kentucky, I think, you know, I said before the game that I thought if Kentucky won tonight, the difference between being a great team and a very good team is winning games like this. And I think, you know, after beating Duke and after having kind of rolled through the bad teams and then losing this game, I think Kentucky is more in the line of very good than great.

Now, you can still do really good things with a very good team, but probably more like a ranked eighth to. the 12th, 13th ranked team. A couple of things that stood out. One, for the first game, really, that we've seen this year, big gap between the starters and the reserves. Butler was in foul trouble in the first half. Mark Pope says maybe he thinks he might have messed up and coached him into foul trouble.

Basically, maybe he should have played him more in the first half. And then he got hurt in the second half. And there was just a huge drop-off between Butler and Kerr-Krease. Butler was plus 17 on the game. Kerr-Kriza was minus 21 on plus-min. Ouch. That is a huge difference.

Now, that doesn't mean if Butler plays, you win, but I think you have a much better shot. Kerr was really bad tonight on both ends. Got just worked on defense, and on offense didn't really add much. So I think there was a big drop-off there. There was also a big drop-off between Amari Williams, who I don't think played particularly well,

but did add some points at the end. But then Garrison was actually minus 20 tonight. So you had one guy minus 21, one guy minus 20. That's not good. So, and those were the only two players, by the way, on the Kentucky roster. Oway and Butler, O'A and Jackson, who played essentially the whole game, were like minus one. So really, that was that, if you look at the plus minus, Mari was plus 16, Butler was plus 17, Garrison was minus 20,

Kreeza was minus 21. I mean, if you just look at the plus minus and there's more to it than that, that's the difference in the game. Is when you had to go to those other two guys, it made a big difference. Kentucky still had their chances, though. O'Away had three open threes in the last two minutes. If he hits one of them, it's a different game. But he misses all three. He was the leading score, but still missed those shots.

That hurt you. Got crushed on the glass in the first half, better in the second half, but was minused. 10 on the glass in the first half plus 10 in the second half. I think Kentucky lost the game in the first half. They were kind of digging out of a hole the entirety of the second half and just couldn't quite get out of it. Led a couple times by one. But just, you know, if the game's tied at halftime, they probably win.

So I think the first half, the foul trouble, the getting out rebounded, it killed them. And then the last thing I would say is my worry on the entire season has always been the same thing. Do you have a guy that can go get a bucket when you need one? When you really need a basket, do you have it? And I don't think Kentucky, as of yet, has shown that they do. Against Duke, Andrew Carr made a couple big plays.

But even tonight, I mean, we hung in there, but I want you to think three of our last five baskets were back to the basket little hook shots by Amari Williams. They went in, so I'm not, I'm glad, I'm happy, but that can't be your offense to win games. games at the end. So some concerning things. With that said, it's one loss. It's on the road. Clemson's probably a tournament team. It's not the biggest deal in the world. And if you beat Gonzaga Saturday, it's not a deal at all, to be honest with you. That's my take. Let's go

around the room. Drew, what do you think? Um, Amari Williams, he got a few buckets there at the end, but I, that's my guy. Still worried he's, he's calling his own number a little too much. He does so many good things, but sometimes I think he thinks he's John Wall and it's his time to He's only dribbles with one arm. He and Kerr, Kriza, were a little disappointed. In Kerr especially, I think he went 0 for four from three. Were you surprised how bad he was? Yeah, it was pretty bad.

I mean, he was bad. If we can delete the Instagram graphic where he was my MVP pick, I'd appreciate it. I thought he'd play well in the road, not a good night for him. I was disappointed those two guys. And then just as a team, they didn't shoot well from three, which has now happened more times than we thought we'd see so far in the year, I think. Three straight games or something like. The last three games are something like 23 of 82 or something.

But the thing that shocks me the most is free throws. 61% tonight, I think, and it's not the first time they've had a bad free throw night. I just thought with a team of shooters, this free throws would be a problem. But at some point, we need to worry, is this going to be an ongoing issue? Because, you know, you lose by 4, but you went whatever, 11 of 18 from the free throw line. I mean, that's a big issue there. Six of, I think six of 13 in the first half. Yeah, it was a very physical game,

and that's now three games Kentucky's played that's physical, and they've been our three, I don't say worst performances. We beat Duke, but the three hardest offensive performances are the games where teams have played physical. I think we're going to see that all year from teams. They're going to be SEC teams that want to just fight. Well, let's remember. The SEC went nine and one tonight against the ACC.

We were the one. So that's not fun. Ryan? We said that during the game tonight. You and I said, this is the way teams are going to play Kentucky. They play physical. Big guys did not play very well. All three of them did not play very well.

Carr wasn't good either. No, he wasn't. No, he wasn't. I'm really, honestly, am not disappointed. They lost. I think we all kind of thought they might lose, and it's not that big a deal if they did lose a true road game. But I am disappointed in offensive execution.

I think for the first time, we saw their offense not really, be in sync. Well, I don't think the offense was really in sync at the end of the Duke game either. It's just Carr made a couple big plays. Yeah. Those and ones. I mean, I think the offense,

when it gets up and down, man, I'll take them against anybody. But in the half court, it's one of those dudes. Butler was the guy who got to the rim the easiest tonight. He did. And the other two guys, Jackson did a little bit, but then he wasn't able to finish.

And then O.A was just, he scored seven. team, but it was just kind of off. Yeah. It was good to see Jackson Robinson kind of step up in a big game. You know, he hadn't seen that yet. So I was happy with him. But yeah, but something about the offense just. Kentucky's shooting 27% from three in the last three games.

It's going to be hard for them to win this year if that doesn't improve. Clemson just slowed down Kentucky's offense. Kind of threw him out of rhythm. I didn't feel like Kentucky's offense was ever really in sync. You know, the thing, again, going back to Amari Williams, dribbling too much. I mean, a couple of shots. did knock down, but that's not what you want to see in your offense. Your strength is shooting.

Even on nights that you're struggling, you still, I feel like I've got to keep jacking them up, but you don't want to abandon the three, and I kind of feel like they did a little bit towards the end of the game. And I think that that may be led to why they lost. Yeah, I don't know if I was repeating what had been said in many previous and post-game shows, but I did allude to the fact that the two most important players are Butler and Williams, and that was the plus minus that worked out tonight. I think Butler gets to the rim great, but he can't be our only offense because he's so small in there that he gets blocked.

And then it's like, all right, the other two ways that you can get easy points are Amari Williams, honestly, throwing it inside. When he gets the ball in the paint, I'm okay with it. When he gets it outside of the paint, I'm not a fan. Agreed. But if we can throw it into him, that's a way that we can create buckets because he's big. And he's massive. They scored three.

The other way that I think that wasn't great tonight is like, if we're going to be a three-point shooting team, you'd like to see a little bit more movement. Like there wasn't a whole lot of movement of like guys coming off screens, guys running baseline. Like there was just kind of a little bit of just standing still and just seeing if something could be great. Those O-A shots came off of movement. He missed them. Yeah. But they came off of movement. But there were a lot of possessions you're right.

I mean, the possession before the two O-A-3s back-to-back, that possession before was one of the worst possessions. It was a huge possession of the game. I think we were down two, maybe. And Amari Williams just dribbled it for like 22 seconds. Then they called time out. And when we came out of the time out, Butler just shot a contest at three and was blocked. That was a really awful possession and an important possession. Definitely.

That was disappointing. The OA3s, Butler made a great offensive rebound to get him a second look. And then in the past, on the end. other one that's robinson oh yeah yeah yeah both times those were such good looks but it just wasn't falling tonight we we knew when mark pope got hired we how many times you heard live by the three die by the three it just wasn't going in tonight this was a die by the three night and the free throw line a few other things but they had they had an opportunity to make a shot at the end it didn't go in are you worried about the depth thing right like like we came into this going

okay they're going to have nine guys Chandler's maybe the 10th they can get guys in and out I mean I felt like, first of all, he didn't play Bray a lot down the stretch, which was odd to me. But I feel like there was a huge drop off between the starting five. I don't know, Braya, that was kind of weird. But when they went to that next group of Almanor, Kressa, and Garrison, I just felt like it was a big drop. It's like the first time all year I felt that. Yeah. It was just, especially in Kirk Kressa, when he came in, the offense just didn't run very smoothly at all.

All, Brea, I don't know what, he only had three points. He wasn't looking for his shot and maybe. He didn't play. Only had three attempts in the entire game. He didn't play the last 10 minutes of the game. One of two from threes. I mean, I maybe would have liked to have seen some of those Creasea minutes go to him. I mean, I guess you had to have Robinson run the point or something.

But like I would, Kreeza, you know, I love the kid. And they'll be good moments with him. But he was off. Yeah. I mean, most of Clemson's points, if you go back and look at those plays, Shannon most of Clemson's points were picking on Creesa either just beat him off the dribble or beat him and then a guy would double and then hit that guy would hit the shot or they put him in a pick and roll I mean he just got abused yeah I mean I don't think Kirkreece is going to be a guy that you're going to look to for offense but a guy that maybe he's going to come in and bring the energy level up you know and I felt like you're right they did pick on him tonight and it was not a good good game at all for him yeah I mean him or car I mean they pick on car a lot too and that's one of the things that Williams again offers you is defense but then also rebounding. I mean, we got destroyed in rebounding when he's not in there.

When he's not in, the other dude, the dude that looked like, first of all, he doesn't look like me. Those of you online. It does not look like. First of all, I wish. If there were you look like contests, he would place. Yeah, but I think the, the way we would not place. Podium.

He would not be podium. Yeah, okay. He would get a rivet. He's got, vice versa. He's got his hair is curly. It's long. I haven't had long harder since I was like 15. You know, you

He doesn't look like you. Thank you, Shea. He looks more like John C. Riley. Exactly. I don't look like those. From stepbrothers. I don't look like John C. No, he looks like a young John C. Riley.

You were supposed to disagree. I do disagree. I did like, he went one from eight from three. I wanted him to shoot him all. Like, we should have just let him keep following. That was definitely the scanner report. We're going to let that guy shoot. I'd forgotten about him.

But I remember in the NCAA tournament, watching him and thinking, he's not good, but yet he has 15 points and 15 remounts. How is that possible? I mean, he shot four for 20. He was four for 20. But he had 20 rebounds. Yeah, I mean, like.

How does that happen? And he can't jump. How does he get those rebounds? First of all, he goes over the back. I'm not, we lost, we should have lost. But you are kidding me if you're telling me that dude had zero foul. That's true. He went over the back at least three times.

I mean, you are kidding? me if you're saying he had zero fouls because he just throws himself into everybody which is he was he was giving clash peters i mean he he literally had 20 you're telling me a guy can have 20 rebounds and no fouls come on i like that he had eight offense rebounds how many of those were just his own miss and then him but he would bellowing his way he would go over everyone's back they never would call it because he didn't jump high enough but like and his shots were so bad i mean listen i'm not i'm not i'm not in any way saying that's why we lost. But there's no way a dude that plays the way he does has zero fouls, Max.

Come on. Oh, I agree. I mean, the difference was, though, unfortunately, he got a lot of rebounds. And then the difference for them compared to us was they had the 45-year-old that could get a few buckets himself. And then the point guard who can get a few points. I mean, that guy, I need to see his birth certificate. Yeah. The Russian guy is at least 35.

And number 11 is 60 minutes. Exactly. He got to look like he'd been in a wind tunnel. I forget the skull it. Yeah, he does have a skull. Like, I mean, that dude, they have... They're an example of the COVID-year stuff needs to go away. Let's go back to traditional seniors.

You get four years. I mean, come on. We can't have people's uncles out there. They're going off polio years. That's how old they were. Oh, well. 899, 8,80, 2287. That was good.

If you're up this late, you're probably either coming home from the game or you just like to talk basketballs. We'll open up the phones. We're going to be here probably a little bit shorter than most for other postgame shows because we're going to be on the air at eight hours doing another one. So we'll take a break and be right back. It's a local toy dealer's KSR post game. 125 in the morning and a loss and loaded phone lines. I mean, I do want to say it's worth noting with this fan base. I mean, there were 40 people in Fort Collins today on very little notice.

Very little notice. There were people that drove from Denver, from Boulder, from Vale. One guy drove from Wyoming, all to come watch the game in Fort Collins. That was awesome. There was C-A-T chance in Fort Collins, away, away, away song. Probably louder than it's been in Rupp Arena was there. So, right, I mean, this fact. band base, we continue to be like amazed by it every time.

And we got in down in Clemson. There was a big blue contingent. We heard the catch cheer you heard it during the broadcast TV broadcast. They ended up actually, that ended up being a much better atmosphere than we thought. One of the rare December court storms. Yeah. Yeah. They went with the lights off court storm too.

When people run on the court, Shannon, I don't think you should turn the lights on. What could possibly go wrong? You know, if somebody just wanted to punch somebody in a face. the lights are off. People could trip. Zero video evidence of what happened. Anything could go on. I don't know that that's the way to go.

I kind of thought the court store might be good for our players. Kind of feel it like you're Kentucky. You just felt that loss. Did you see the Pope quote? Pope has a good quote about that. Tell me about it. Pope has a quote. I'll find it.

Here's what he said. He said, I know Calapari used to say, where everybody's Super Bowl. This is why you come to Kentucky. This is why you put on the jersey. it's an honor, but it also requires you to be great, and we weren't great tonight. I like that. Yeah, I do.

I mean, Cal was right that it's everybody's Super Bowl, but it is also an honor to play. There is a sense we often go, man, everybody banks in threes against us, which they do. And we always get everybody's best effort, which they do. And we always get everybody's best crowd, we do. But that's the honor of the jersey, right? Like, that's why you come here. That's what Alabama gets in football. You know, that's what you get.

That's why you come here. and you have to reach that effort. Yeah, and I think maybe you don't want to lose that game, but we already know how much they appreciate being at Kentucky, but maybe just seeing how much it saw for another team to see what it meant for them to lose. Maybe that'll just inspire them even more. Like, yeah, we've made it to UK, and we are the top dog

because that court storm early December you don't see many of those. Yeah. All right, who's up first? Drew. Drew, go ahead, Drew. Hey, how are y'all? What's going on? Hey.

first thing i got to say is climpson going to be the ugliest team i've ever seen i mean i'm not an attractive fella but i probably be a stud on that crazy but it is not it is not uh it's not a cover of gq i think that's fair to say i'm glad you said it not me but i it's not a terrible boy But one thing that confused me was the rotations tonight Because I felt like we went on some runs And then after the timeout we just completely do something different

And I was just confused by that Because we were going We were going like an 8-0 run And then we just change it all up out of nowhere And then they Yeah, if you had to, if I had to do I appreciate the call If I had to do something over Shannon

If I was coaching, which thankfully I mean For the team I'm not We go on that 9-0 run We go up 28-23 Clemson calls time out. Pope takes out Butler, who had two fouls, Williams and Carr. He takes all three of those guys out. I don't remember who he put in, but I think it was Crease of Garrison and someone.

I can't maybe Bray or maybe Almanor. And Clemson then immediately goes on a 10-0 run right back. That to me was a key sequence. Yeah. And then, I mean, Butler put the team on his back and carried them for, I mean, most of the game. So, yeah, I mean, some of the rotations were a little confusing. I'm not really sure why he did that. He probably thought.

My guess what he thought, Ryan, is, okay, we're up five, there's three minutes to go. I can get Carr, I can make sure Carr and Butler don't pick up their third foul and I'll get us to halftime. Yep. But then you have that 10-0 run and we don't get it, right? In past games, your reserves conventure held their own. Probably would have protected that lead a little better. Tonight, they just didn't get it done. tonight as much as we've seen in any game,

Ammon Butler is a dude you got to have out there. Like you just said, the moment he sat down, they went on a 10-on-run. He was so good tonight from the field. He had his free throws. He had the usual defense. That guy needs to be out there as much as possible. I don't hurt him when he got in foul trouble. You're not going to see too many games, Max,

with plus 17 for your starting point guard, minus 21 for your run. That's ridiculous. I mean, you're not going to see that very much in basketball. And you don't want to go back to the calipari of like early March Matt is, But, I mean, there is a part of Pope that would be like, we've got to put some of these guys out there, see what they can do, keep trying to develop them.

If you just keep them on the bench and play seven guys the whole year, then you're going to get nothing out of some of them. Like, they're not going to get any better. So you may as well use games like this, put them out there. Now, that doesn't sound good for a one-off game, but in the whole term of the seasons, you've got to put them out there and let them see if they can get better. I mean, you've got to see what Creaser can do if you can put him out there for 15, 20 minutes.

Well, he's got to play better. Yeah, he's going to play better. He was on offense, and he was. He was, in the first half, his offense was glaring to me. But in the second half, that defense, I mean, they were just, they couldn't leave him out there. Grandpa guy was just driving right past him, just time after time after time. And even the, I thought the biggest shot of the game was it was a two-point game when the old big guy, what was his name? The Russian.

He hit that three. Yeah. That took it from two to five. But he was open because Carr had to double to stop the drive. because Creasy had gotten me. Yeah, they had some big shots. I mean, Kentucky had shots at the end. O-Way went over three there in the end.

On the opposite side in Clemson-Hadom, they made them. Here's the thing. We got this game out of the way. Let's move forward. We've got Gonzaga coming up. We all said we'll probably go one-in-one, which would you rather win? We're following our own script. The worst part about it, though, we are the one loss in the SEC-ACC challenge.

That's right and one. Nine and one. Not nine-in-one. The SEC has already won the challenge. It's over going into night. We could have swept. Yeah, who's up next? Pat.

Pat, how are you, Pat? Hey, Matt, doing well. How about you? Doing good. Good. Hey, I was just calling in, actually, about an article you tweeted by Kent Smith, saying Bree, Cali, Arkansas fans get it more than Kentucky fans. Well, somebody pointed out there's a bunch of typos,

and it was a really weirdly written article. We think it might still be that artificial intelligence stuff that Sports Illustrated got caught doing at the end of the last year. You noticed that in that article? Yeah, it was terrible. It might have been. But what they're basically doing is they're having fans do articles now. I mean, like fans, like sports.

It's not Sports Illustrated writers anymore. I mean, they have some, but most of the team sites are run by fans. And so, you know, it's just, it's a blogger. That's why I deleted the article, by the way. I appreciate the call. When I first saw it, I was like, oh, this must be a Sports Illustrated article. And then when I read it, I was like, that's not a Sports Illustrated article. and I'm not just going to retweet a fan blog.

Arkansas came back to win that game tonight. I thought they were dead. I thought they would. Miami's bad. But they hit some, I mean, like they hit some big shots. We watched the end of that game.

They hit, they were, that game was tied. I think boogie flan or whatever. Yeah. So DJ and Big Z had some big shots in the comeback to it. If they've got anything, we don't.

It's guys that just create their own shot. Well, that's always been, I mean, like you honestly saw the difference in the two coaches. All right. Cal doesn't run late offense, but he does have guys who can go get a shot, and if he's playing against a subpar team, they can get their thing.

Pope right now, I think he will in the future have a guy who can go get his shot, but he doesn't have it, and he can run offense, but if you miss a shot, you miss a shot. You know, oh, he was open twice. He missed it both times. Who's next? Blake. Blake, what's up, Blake? Hey, guys, I just want to say it's always good to have the whole crew together. you guys have been fun, you know, the whole way through.

And I'm excited to see what y'all do for the rest of the trip. But I just wanted to say with the – I know Pope's a big analytics guy, and I hope – I was kind of, you know, disappointed he didn't run any, like, different defenses with the backup crew. Because I feel like they could have done a, like, a zone at some point because they were getting killed in the second half with that second group. Just going to the – like the outer – like, you know, they're getting beat not to the baseline, but on the wing, pretty much on both sides with several different. guys. So I hope that they kind of see and run some different defenses with that second group because the first group can play man to man all they want. But I'm not too worried about the loss because it was still

fun. We battled back a bunch of times. We just didn't have the ball go down and shots we didn't hit. So I hope this is like the Indiana game in 2012, right? You do hope that. You're performing and we hope that they're pumped about it for the rest of the season and use that as fuel. Appreciate the call. That's a really good analogy. I mean, Kirk Crease have played 21 minutes.

Lamont Butler played 19. That's a problem. He was forced to because the fouls and the injury. So, I mean, I don't think that was Pope's choice. But that's a big thing. He also played Creas. I think they're going to have to maybe Drew to look at whether it's Robinson or Oway, letting them get some minutes at backup point guard for games like this.

Dick Kerr was that bad? Yes. Tonight. I'm not saying he's always going to be that bad. But he was that bad tonight. And it's just so reckless. I mean, some of the threes he takes, it's like, what are you doing? And they're not even close.

We love his attitude, but this is kind of what we knew coming in what we were getting. And we're seeing the negative end of it. I mean, he was 0 for 4 from the field and getting cooked on defense. And again, I'm not blaming him for the game, but like you can't have that. I think it's because we need you the Johnny Rocker role player the game. What you do that? PSR cursed him. You cursed him.

Why did you do that? I'm trying to help the poor man. It's a new sponsor. New sponsor. Johnny Rocker. Don't play the sponsor. Yeah, first of all, don't put it on him. Johnny Rocker had nothing to do with this.

He had zero minutes in the game. Did we find out was Davo ever introduced? I don't know. If he did, they should have booed. Who's next? John. John. Go ahead, John.

I think having no point guard tonight for half the game, as you mentioned, leads to 60-something points, which is unfortunate to see. But, you know, what are you going to do if you don't have somebody out there kind of leading the offense, which we saw a lot of dudes struggle today.

From a defensive perspective, everybody minus Creesa played really good. So, you know, this game had to happen. I'm glad it happened today versus this weekend against a ranked team. And I'm curious, you know, I'm from Kentucky. I live in North Carolina. I made that same drive. I live here in Portland. What are you guys doing from the next part of the trip?

What are you doing once you get to. So we're going to go tomorrow night. We're going to spend tomorrow night in Vail. We're going to spend Thursday night in Salt Lake City. We're going to spend Friday night in Boise, where we may go to the Boise State Mountain West title game and see if they make the playoff. Then we're going to get up early. Saturday, drive to Seattle, and we'll be there Saturday night and all day Sunday.

Cool. Any chance of a pregame show in Seattle? That's the goal. It depends on what time we get up in Boise. That's the goal. But we definitely will do, if we win, we'll definitely do something in public for the post game. And maybe even if we lose. There'll be a way if people want to come say hello. We'll make sure we do that. But appreciate the call. The Boise to Seattle drive is a longer drive. If I had told you before, the game, Ryan, that we'd hold them to 37% shooting from the field, 32% from three, that at the end of the game, we would tie them in rebounds, and we'd hold them to 70 points. You'd probably feel pretty good about our chances to have won. I would have taken that in a second, because I

would have felt like we would have shot the ball well enough to win the game. So as difficult, as poor Shannon as the defense was, at times, overall, I think the problem was scoring more than it was defensive. Kentucky just looked different tonight than they have all season. I mean, even against Duke, they looked more comfortable. I don't know if it was the environment. I don't know, maybe just something that Clemson was doing defensively to sort of throw them off. They didn't look like the same Kentucky team that we've seen in the first games. O-A-5-13, Robinson 5 for 13, Carr 1 for 7. Those are probably your three best scores. O-A, Robinson, and Carr. They combined to go 11 for 33.

from the field. Robinson didn't have a great night, but I'm going to be honest. And that second half, he kind of started to show something that we would like to see a little bit more, him being a bit more aggressive, attacking, opening the floor up for others. Like if Kobe Bra is going to get more shots, he needs guys to be able to create, so then they have to come double team. So Robinson's going to have to be that guy that just like, just put your head down sometimes and go for it and just see if you can get that drive to open things up. Let me say with Lamont Beller, we don't only say he's important. 19 minutes, 16.6. assist in 19 minutes.

And I feel like we saw it with the Duke game. Kedongue struggle with it. They won, obviously. But then tonight, they were thrown in the same situation, and it was a loss. And I feel like the big issue will be with just a team that plays physical. And a team that makes you sit in half court, and, you know, run plays and all that stuff.

It's going to be difficult. There's no doubt. There's no doubt that's going to be, you know, I appreciate the call. Unless you're a super team, you're going to have a weakness. And the question is, can they exploit your weakness? That's ours. Ours is going to be a team that plays physical defense. Can we score on?

They're going to, and, you know, when you're on the road, you're not going to give as many calls. although that guy did double dribble. Oh, yeah. I'm all for but man he can't initiate the offense out front he just can't I don't know why they run it when he gets the ball and he starts to dribble what do I do Mario it wasn't just you there was a crowded bar of Kentucky fans there was a gas when he would put the ball Start dribbling, I'd go, no, no, no. And one time he had it outside the lane, he was dribbling. You and I both were like, you're too far out.

You're too far out. You're too far out. This might be maybe counterintuitive, but I think if Creasch is going to go out there with our lack of physicality, go get some fouls. Like, go beat some guys up. Like, go crash through some guys trying to get the ball. Like, put some physical stuff on the game, because that's kind of going to be his role or, like, ignite us and get us going. if we can put him out there. I still can't believe they didn't call a foul on that guy.

Yeah, that is. And that was disappointing to see the offense. I didn't expect to see the dribble drive tonight. But, you know, it's we'll turn it around. It's a fun team to watch. I got to see him beat Duke, so it's not all bad. I can't wait until I see him in Nashville. And hopefully I'll see him a couple more times then

One thing, look, I called on after the Georgia State game and talked about how I think we should occasionally full court press and against a team like this that wants to slow you down, I really wish I would have seen a full court press at some point just to try to speed the game up.

And their bigs don't handle the ball well. So this would have been a team to do that again. Yeah, you know, you did say that. I told you I didn't think we do a lot of that. You might be right. This might have been a game to do it. Yeah. And like, I mean, obviously I know you don't want to do that in 2024 too often.

And as a better team, you don't want to do it. But tonight might have been a night to try it out. but shoulda coulda woulda at the end of the day, if you knock down 10 of 27 instead of 7 to 27, you win. If you knock down 15 of 18 at free throw line, you go to overtime. But again, shoulda coulda wooda, it is what it is. If you win on Saturday, we'll find out a lot about this team because if they can come back and win on Saturday against a very good Gonzaga team, you know, then it doesn't matter. You got a split on the road trip and you build from there. But, you know, just a frustrating game, but I do like that they didn't quit.

thought, I mean, they got absolutely outmuscled and outmanned in the first half. And in the second half, they didn't back down. I mean, we got out rebounded by. Yeah, yeah. We got out rebounded by 10 in the first half. And we ended tied. So that means we out rebounded them by 10 in the second half. Exactly right.

So that shows that they did man up in the second half and decided to be physical. But at the end of the day, the shots just didn't fall. And that play that Pope ran to get away that shot in the corner, I have seen many of coaches run a play just like that, and it almost always works. Actually, John Caliperi, when he had things rolling, that was one of his favorite things to do at the end of games. Frank Vogel did it in Indiana as well when he was coaching there. But I mean, I got the shots they wanted. Yeah, I mean, I appreciate the call.

They got the shots they wanted there at the end. They got the shots they wanted on those threes. Oh, I missed him. I mean, like, on that, of all my complaints, that's – But by the way, he missed badly on those shots. I mean, they were not close, Ryan. Not only did they makeers, not shooters. I mean, if you notice, Butler could take him almost every time. Creason was not able to, but Butler was. But yeah, no, they play good defense. And they're physical. I mean, they bump you. The refs didn't call a ton, and so it worked out for him.

Yeah, at number four, he was really pumped up. I mean, he don't look at athletic either. No, looks kind of like Ryan. But I just didn't think we played very well tonight. Played better in the second half, but, you know, I just didn't think we played. No, we didn't play great. I mean, if we had won, we would have stolen it, and I appreciate the call. and we had a shot to, but we did.

Well, there's going to be games. I mean, there's going to be games where we don't shoot well. I mean, you know, under the Cal offensive system, we lost games. Under pretty much every offensive system ever known demand, you lose.

Yeah, but we didn't even shoot that poorly from three tonight. And we still... We were seven for 20... We were seven for 27. That's bad. Yeah, that is pretty bad, but it could, you know, 30... It's 26%. That's nearing 33%.

Yeah, I understand. But you're getting close... If we had shot 33%, we would have won. Yeah, probably. Okay. Appreciate the call. Okay. Yep.

I mean, they shot similar. They shot... Similar to that in the previous two games and won. I'm not sure what his argument. Yeah, so I mean... If we'd shot 33%, we'd won. When people say live and live by the three, die by three as well, that's literally one of our best places to score.

So, like, it's not just some, like, phenomenon where we're, like, we're rolling the dice here to see if we win every game. It's just a good way to score. Yeah. Who are? All right, so I got two fifth points here, guys, and I'll hang up and listen. First off tonight, I got a lot of people on Twitter. or talking about Kobe Brea's plus minus and how he was kind of there with it was minus 16 yeah it was low

exactly everybody's talking about him with you know Kirk Creson brandon garrison plus minus tonight and uh I guess my first point is that I think I think we can all agree that Kobe Bregg has a defensive deficiency and I just think as a coach you would

you would want to mask that right you kind of want to you want to mass that he's got a defensive deficiency. So in my opinion, I think he should get more minutes with Lamont Butler, Otega Owe, and Amari Williams on the court with him. So you've got three elite defenders. And that way you can kind of mask his deficiencies defensively a little bit. Because, you know, you're throwing him on the court with Kerr-Kreza.

You're throwing him on the court with Kurt Kriza, who's also notoriously not a great defender. And I think that's going to just, you know, make, you know, everybody's life a little more difficult. when you got multiple bad defenders on the court. So that's my first point. And I'll let you guys talk about that. My second point is I'm a little bit worried about our big men. And my point being is that this is the second good team, I would say, we've played this year. First game was – first good team was obviously Duke.

And against Duke, I think you could genuinely – obviously, I think we played a good game against Duke, especially in the second half. But I think you could genuinely make the argument that – we maybe would have lost that game if Malawatch didn't go out with cramps. You're probably right. But we might have won tonight if Butler didn't get it. We might have gone one tonight if Butler didn't turn his ankle. Exactly, exactly.

I completely agree with you. But I think you could make the case that if Malawatch didn't go out with cramps, we maybe would have struggled in those last nine, ten minutes there. So I just think our big men got a little bit, it was a little bit better in the second half, They got bullied a little bit tonight. No, they're not, listen, our big men are not elite. Our big men are not elite. I mean, I appreciate the call.

I think Amari's a really good defender, Drew, but offensively, they're not elite. And I think Amari's a decent rebounder, but he also can get outworked sometimes. I think he did in the first half. And we've seen something out of him just recently. He gets a little emotional, too, when things gone wrong, and it's affected him. You know, one bad play turns him to a couple. Yeah. And, you know, for every amazing pass he makes, because he is a good passer,

we also see a lot of turnovers when he's trying to make those passes. So, I mean, he'll give you a lot of good, but there's also a lot of bad with him, too. I feel like Pope just needs to reel him in a little bit. Like, hey, you don't always have to try to take your man off the dribble or try to make that perfect pass to a guy making a backdoor cut. Because he does do a lot of it. I mean, defensively, he's great. I think he's rebounded well, but he is way too turnover prone.

And lo and behold, as we were sitting there, somebody from the UK staff came up and said, hey, would you guys like an upgrade?

And they gave us tickets six rows behind the bench. So we got to move down and watch the game there tonight. And it was, he said, courtesy of Coach Pope and Miss Leanne. So I just want to give them a shout out. And that was a great blessing. My daughter and I loved it. Had they just walked all the way to the top, saw you guys and brought you down? Yes, sir.

He handed me two tickets, like, you know, the old school printable tickets, gave me two tickets. And then there was another eight people around us that all got upgraded from the nosebleed section they brought down to be in behind the bench for the game tonight. It was completely awesome. It was a great environment. Hate the outcome. But, man, it was a great, great game. I give proff to Clinton.

They were super loud, noisy environment. And, you know, right there by the student section, it was wild. That's very cool, though. That's a very cool thing that they would go up there to the people who came at the time. That is a nice, feel-good way to end. and I'm glad you got to go with your daughter. Thank you very much.
