Uh-oh.
In Kentucky, it is 1050 here in Seattle. And how about that win, Big Blue Nation?
An absolute masterclass of a performance by Kentucky as they take out Gonzaga in one of the best
non-conference games that I,
I can ever remember Kentucky and Mark Pope become,
Mark Pope becomes only the second coach in UK history
to win his first two games against top ten opponents,
having beaten Duke and Gonzaga.
By the other one, the other one's name was Adolf Rup.
He was pretty good.
We are here at the Atlas Sports Bar.
It is an unbelievable night.
Kentucky beats Gonzaga, 90 to 89.
It's a local toy dealers, KSR post game show.
I got everybody here.
I got Drew, I got Shannon, I got Max, I got Ryan.
Mario's wandering around.
taking fireball shots. It is absolutely packed with people. Seattle. The historic climate pledge arena,
the site for one of the best games I can remember in the non-conference. The only thing that's
even close for me is North Carolina and Kentucky and Vegas. Yep. Back the Malik Monkey. That's the only
game I can remember they like this. Cats down as many as 18 in the second half. Come back and win in
overtime. I got a lot of thoughts, but let's each take a quick 10, 20 second hit on what you thought.
about the game what a game I mean that was a big shot after big shot really
exciting game I cannot believe Kentucky came back and won that game I really can't
I mean I thought they were dead the water and they found away with with your
point guard out your backup point guard left and you still found a way to win the
game that's a sign of a good team right there buddy I want to give a shout out to
two people Matt always talks about the people driving home good luck to you
next day and a half driving home from this one hopefully you've got plenty
of time to call in and then the second person
The most underrated person probably of the game. The witch. The witch that gave us the curse breaking candle.
The curse breaking candle.
The greatest luck we've ever had in our life. Thank you to that witch she was probably watching. She probably tuned in.
Thank you so much.
The KSR curse is broken. So was the rule of 71 tonight because Gonzaga got the 71 first.
Kentucky still came back. Showed a lot of fight a lot of grit and I think that going zone in the second half
was a big difference in the game. It completely threw
off Gonzaga's offense and the game changed at that moment.
Well, I'll just build off of Shannon's point there because it's kind of my point.
It's the same recipe as the Duke game.
They went down big, looked like they didn't belong on the same court,
and then they go into halftime, make the adjustments, come out and look like a completely different team.
Well, they have like a 16 to 2 run there.
I mean, Gonzaga was scoring at will early and then out of the second half with the zone
and just completely changed the intensity.
We've now seen at least twice.
Pope calls it collecting data early.
I wish he didn't have to collect so much.
But, I mean, they come out as a completely different team in the second half again and get a top 10 wins.
All right, I'm going to do, I have a million things I could say, but I'm going to do like five things.
Let's start with number one.
Mark Polp, that's how you coach.
Like, that's coaching right there.
That is coaching.
They come out in the first half.
Things don't really work.
Adjustments at halftime looks like a different team in the second half.
I mean, that's what you hope for.
You hope you don't play like they did in the first half when they were down 16, but then you have.
hope to get that in the second half.
What an amazing job for Mark.
If there were any questions about whether or not Mark was the guy, and there shouldn't
have been after Duke, there certainly isn't now.
Second, Jackson Robinson, we've been sitting there going, do they have a dude?
Do they have a dude?
Do they have a dude?
Do they have a dude?
He's the dude.
Andrew Carr played great, too.
Don't get me wrong.
But he's the dude.
He had the ball in his hands.
I thought the two most important plays of the game, actually the three most important plays
the game, he made all of them.
The two passes to start overtime, the one where he found O.A. cut into the basket,
the length of the court pass, which Mark Pope said in the post-game press conference.
Well, that was pretty gutsy.
Well, at least it worked.
Four different hands could have touched that.
It went through all of them.
And he caught it.
And then the shot at the end, which was basically the game-winning shot,
all of those made by Jackson-Robins.
Three, the defense.
I think, Shannon, you hit it with the one-three-one.
I asked Pope in the post-game press conference, what made you play?
the 131. He goes, well, when you're getting crushed doing anything else,
you might as well try some. But it worked. It started as a one-three-one,
and then it morphed as it went on to a one-three-one that would collapse into a man-to-man.
Gonzaga seemed completely baffled by it.
I think they did it seven plays, and Gonzaga only scored on one,
and it was the last one, and it's just because Carr lost his man and gave up an open corner three.
I think if Carr hadn't lost his man, they might not scored on that all the time.
Those were huge plays, Shane.
I think that was a really good point to bring that up.
The environment, the Big Blue Nation, they can't hear me right now,
but that was awesome.
That was a great college basketball environment.
80% of the fans there were probably Gonzaga fans,
probably 20% were Kentucky fans,
but those 20% were as loud as the 80%.
When Gonzaga would hit a shot, it'd be loud,
when Kentucky would hit a shot to be loud.
And I got to tell you, I really like Gonzaga fans.
They're what you should be.
They're passionate, but they're not jerks.
No, I mean it.
They're not.
They're into it, but they're not jerks.
It was a great college basketball environment.
I absolutely loved every minute of the game.
I was nervous through a lot of it.
But especially starting in the second half, that's what you want.
And then last thing, to win that game without Lamont Butler.
I mean, I think he's our most important player, and he didn't play.
And then Kirk Creesa went out.
And I've said, I took a lot of, especially all my,
line mocking about saying Jackson Robinson or O way should be our backup point guard a lot
and it worked I'm really sorry to hear it looks like Kirk Creeza has a real injury that it's not
cramps they said foot or ankle injury Mark said they're going to do imaging if you heard his
voice it didn't sound great it didn't sound great what he was saying I hate that because
I want to say this about Kurt he couldn't guard anybody tonight but the play he got hurt
If he ends up really hurt and misses the rest of the year, which I hope doesn't happen.
I don't have any reason to think that would or wouldn't.
But that last play shows why I do love that kid.
He got hurt and he got back on defense, right?
He got back on defense.
And if he has a serious injury and he ended up getting back on defense,
to me, Drew, that says something about that kid.
And I think it says kind of why he's on the team.
But when he went out, Jackson Robinson did an amazing job kind of in that point guard.
He basically played it the last 10 minutes of the game.
Before we get to Jackson, I had one curve thing.
With about a minute left in regulation, I was looking at the bench.
He had been in the back the whole time.
A trainer literally carried him out.
He was on one foot, didn't have a shoe on.
He couldn't get to the bench by himself.
A trainer, he had his arm around a trainer, and they carried him and set him on the bench,
and he cheered, just sitting there with his foot up.
Sounded like it's going to be bad, but the fact that he wanted to come out for that last minute,
he was engaged as anyone out there in huddles and on the bench,
but he could not stand up on it.
I watched him come out.
And my last point, and I wish the people that are here could hear this,
but you'll hear it when you listen to it on review.
And if you are awake tonight, I know a lot of you are, you'll agree.
If you're listening on podcast tomorrow, you'll agree.
Here's what I felt like tonight after the game.
This is what Kentucky basketball is supposed to be like.
We've gotten away from that.
Everybody can decide when we got away from it.
Some people think it happened the moment the last coach got here.
I disagree with that.
But I think we can all agree.
started to happen in the last few years. It just hasn't been the same. It's been too toxic. It was
losing. It was antagonistic. I just want to give you a sense of what it was like in there tonight.
Not only all these people having fun, the atmosphere of a road game, it's been like that a lot.
But when the game was over, just a few scenes. First of all, I went down on the court. A ton of
Kentucky fans stayed for no reason. The team wasn't coming out. They just wanted to be there.
and celebrate with each other.
Mark Pope actually came up and started hugging people in the crowd.
But they had already kicked people out at that point.
But they literally, all the people just gathered around the Kentucky bench just to say C-A-T-S
and just hug strangers.
Like, I just think that's awesome.
That's what this is supposed to be.
That's what makes all of this great are things like that.
Watching the fans celebrate.
People giving each other high-fives like, yeah, it can be cheesy.
But you know what?
that's what makes sports great and that's what makes community great and that's why this is special are moments like that
second we win the bag i'm a human being just like anybody else i haven't been to a press conference in
four years i stopped going for a variety of reasons this was my first one in like four years i asked a question
and when it was over mark pope looked at me and he looked at jackson robinson he goes jackson
see that guy right there he and five other dudes drove here from lexon
and he said that's awesome
Jackson goes are y'all driving back
now jump in look
do you know
like just to notice that
right just to notice that
that's a cool thing
it was cool for me personally but it's also just
symbolic of how he notices things
like that and then finally as we were
about to walk out
Andy Katz who I haven't seen in years
was doing an interview with Jackson
Robinson and Mark Pope and I watched
and at that moment there was Mark Pope
his family, the players, Mitch Barnhart, Mark Hill, who's the assistant AD,
and they were all hugging and talking to each other.
It hasn't been like that in years.
You could cut the tension backstage at games with a knife every single game.
You'd see one person would see another person, you'd be like,
they don't like each other, they don't like each other.
And it wasn't just cow.
Cow was part of it, but there were other people too.
There was just, it was just always, he doesn't like her.
He doesn't like him.
He doesn't do, not tonight.
And there was a moment where it just felt like, you know what?
When it was going good, everybody was going in the same direction.
Now, I don't think this team is as talented as 2010, 12, 15, maybe even 17.
But man, they're fun to watch.
And man, they play hard.
And man, they seem like good kids.
And if you can't get excited about watching this group, even when they stink, they stunk in the first half.
Yeah, they did.
It's still so refreshing and fun.
And, oh, yeah, they're still pretty good as the fact they've beaten Duke and Gonzaga to start the season, both on neutral courts.
It's a brotherhood that's been missing, I think, between the players, between the players and the fan base, coaches, you got it all.
And like you said, these UK fans that live up here, man, it felt like a tournament atmosphere because of the players.
They don't get experienced that moment anymore, and they got to experience in front of their home people.
I mean, it was just a special night to be there.
Let me ask you a question, Billy.
I know you always say we got to do something at 2 a.m.
I know we're coming to that.
Do we need to take a break or do we need to talk through it?
No, let's break right now and we should be fine.
Let's break right now so Billy can get his stupid 2 a.m. break in.
I'm just kidding, Billy.
I know you have to.
We will come back.
I want to talk some more with these guys and take your calls.
859-280-22.
An exciting win.
The Cats beat Gonzaga.
We'll be right back.
This is the local toilet dealers, KSR Postgame Show.
Welcome back.
It is the local Toyota Dealer's KSR Postgame Show.
859-28027.
All right, those were my bigger thoughts.
Let's just talk amongst us here a little bit about the game.
Ryan, this is the ties for the biggest margin of victory
in a neutral court game Kentucky's never overcome at halftime.
It was unbelievable.
You know, you're down 18, I think, at one point early in the second half.
Your best, one of the best three-point jurors in the country
hit the side of the basket in the first half.
That's right.
I'm thinking, man, this game, there's just no coming back.
But they fought and clawed their way into it.
We've all talked about it.
Switching to that zone totally through Gonzaga off.
Kentucky has to go to their third string point guard.
But you said it.
Jackson Robinson kind of became the guy.
He became the man.
Maybe he needs the ball on his hands like that,
but he definitely became the man tonight.
It wasn't just the one three one though for me. I mean even before that we started switching screens
we started going underneath screens but Nimbard absolutely tore us to threads in the first half
it wasn't even close like pre-sequent stay with him like wounds was coming off screens he was just
dumbing it to it's Eke right yeah okay was killing us he probably had 45 million points of the first
half yeah and then we said and then Pope because he actually makes adjustments as a good coach
it's like all right let's not do this anymore let's go under screens let's switch screens
We saw the one three one for a little bit.
It was great coaching.
Nimbab looked confused as sometimes to the second half,
and he's a great player.
He literally dribbled the ball sometimes.
It was like looking around like, what should I do?
I thought he should have shot more.
In the second half, I looked over at Ryan when it got down to like three points.
And I go, I cannot believe this team came back and closed it down to three points.
Going into tonight, here's another stat for you.
Gonzaga was 175 and 0.
Leading by 10 or more at halftime.
Kentucky tonight.
Not only won, they penetrated their soul.
They did.
I mean, we're happy we won, but if I can be slightly negative.
Oh, no.
Okay was doing whatever he won.
I hated that guy all night.
He played well in Rupp last year.
I hope we never see him again.
It was nice to win.
That dude had a hell of a game.
They couldn't stop him much until the very end.
Luckily, missed some free throws.
That guy was a nightmare.
You said you had a story you wanted to tell.
I did my rapid reaction, talk some fans outside.
Not many people had voices.
You mentioned we were outnumbered.
They were drowning us out with the DJ, by the way.
I don't know if y'all caught on.
But when there would be a Go Big Blue, the house DJ would, like, play music.
Oh, yeah.
But the fans were trying to power through it.
But I met someone that Matt Jones would appreciate it.
All right.
He's the one I tweeted a picture of them.
Everybody can go look at it.
But at halftime, he went to the bathroom and never came out.
His friend, no, he did.
His friends vouched.
He stayed in the bathroom the whole time.
I was with his four friends.
They all vouched that he was texting them.
No way.
Right out of halftime, we went on a little run.
No way.
Staying here.
He did not come out until the game was over.
I love it. Really?
That is the sacrifice that only BBN can make.
That is awesome.
I even asked them, I was like, was there a TV in there?
Nope, just sound.
Just lived it out.
So they came from Kentucky, too.
They're from Denver.
Okay, well, still, that's pretty far to go and not watch the game.
That's unbelievable.
I've done that, though.
I've done that on many NCAA time left.
I know you have.
Not in the bathroom, but I've left the arena for games before.
I want to make sure to tell you about that.
He watched it all just, I guess, circling around urinals in there.
I thought you were leaving today.
You know, when things weren't going,
well you got up i thought oh he's leaving yeah you talk about my pope giving us a shout out after
the game he needs to give that guy and the witch a shout out i mean you talk about two people that
changed the game they did i uh a few more i think just uh stuff from the game you mentioned
nimhard who killed us in the first half but it quickly became clear and i tell you was the first
person to note this to me was Mario who was sitting next to me Mario just goes that dude don't want
to shoot yeah he didn't and he didn't
And it was clear Pope saw that and was basically daring him to shoot.
Now, he did make a three at the end, but he did not want to shoot.
You could tell.
And when you were talking about going under screens, they were leaving him,
and he would not take the shot.
He was just happy to just pick and roll.
We were going over the top, and then he was just dishing it to EKK every single time
or making his own layout.
As soon as we started going underneath or switching it, you're daring him to shoot,
and he just wouldn't do it.
He was like, well, I'm just happy of passing and just setting everyone else up,
and he just had no impact.
after that. I don't think he did, besides that, he hit the big three at the end.
But besides that, he didn't do a thing in the second heart.
You know, they locked up Otega.
I mean, he was locked up.
You know, Kobe had a bad shooting night.
So we had to find somebody to more offense besides Jackson Robinson.
And Andrew Carr, the two biggest games of the year, Duke and Gonzaga, he plays his best offensive games.
He played great.
Yes, he did.
You know, I always talk about threes and layups.
Some people get sick of it.
I used to drive me crazy.
Maybe the two biggest shots of the game were mid-range twos.
One was by Andrew Carr that tied the game in regulation,
and one was by Jackson Robinson.
It hurts me, but probably our two biggest shots, Drew,
were mid-range jumpers by those guys, both of them runners.
I haven't seen a shot chart or highlights or anything yet,
but I felt like most of Jackson-Robinson's points were mid-range.
He had two-threes, but he showed a lot of mid-range night
in attacking in his great night.
That little fadeaway was so smooth that he knocked down there at the end, man.
He looked in complete control at the end, and I love that.
He looked.
I felt like in the first half, no one looked comfortable.
Not one guy in our team looked comfortable.
A couple guys I don't think O'A ever looked comfortable.
I don't really think Bray ever looked comfortable.
But Jackson looked comfortable at the end, and so did Carr.
And at the end of regulation, it didn't work, so we'll forget it.
But Pope had a hell of a play right there.
Yes, he did.
I mean, that was a hell of a play.
O.A., if he gets a half an inch higher, that's a dunk to win the game.
And I think the secondary option was Carr was wide open for three if he kicked it out.
He did the one thing you can't do, which is throw it into E.K.'s hands.
But it was a hell of a drawn-up plot.
Go ahead.
We may not, I mean, I'm really hoping I'm right about this.
I feel like Robinson turned the corner in the second half against Clemson.
Like, he just changed the way that he played, and then tonight it led into that.
I mean, all of a sudden we're seeing a guy that's like, yeah, give me the ball.
I'll shoot it, I'll pass it, I'll do whatever we need to do to win the game.
You can just say even those passes were just full of confidence.
I mean, that pass, the pass, the court was a great, and it's a two-point game,
and he throws at the length of the court to Amari Williams not exactly the surest hands in the world,
and he nicks and he puts it right on.
Think about the Duke game, Kobe Brahe.
We have two full-length court passes that have won games for us.
Still in the beginning of the game, I don't know how you fix this,
Maybe it's just experience, but just these, the Duke game in this one, just right out of the gate, they look so timid and scared.
We know they're better because we saw them go on to win, but whatever happens in the beginning, they are completely different as it goes on.
I don't know if they're just not used to to be in top and having Kentucky cross their chest in a game of that magnitude,
but it's been too slow starts in their biggest games.
I just want to add this about Jackson Robinson.
Mark Pope said tonight, Jackson played some backup point guard for him at BYU, so he's comfortable in that role.
I thought doing it back and point guard is the most comfortable.
looked at the entire season.
Hope in the press conference, one of the things he said is he said at half time,
I looked at the coaches and he said, we realized they're pressing up on us.
He didn't say this, but this is true.
That's exactly what Clemson did.
Let's go back to the game before that.
That's exactly what Western did.
The teams that were giving us problems, they've decided we're going to get out on you
on the three-point line, we're going to make you beat us.
He did not say this, but I think he had an implication of,
I don't know if our guys can beat people off the dribble consistently.
He said, I told the team cuts, cuts, backdoor cuts, cuts, and that's what they did.
Yeah.
And they got a ton of action, Max, a ton of pretty easy baskets or baskets that led to an
open shot somewhere else through cut.
We talked about it in the post game after Clemson.
Not enough off ball movement.
It was just too much stand dribble, stand dribble, maybe too much Williams at the top.
But tonight there was so much movement.
There was probably three players that were kind of interesting.
Obviously, Perry and Chandler didn't do a whole lot.
They kind of got their opportunity.
He didn't do much.
One guy I thought that did really well, that moved around a lot, was Garrison.
I thought Garrison played well.
And on defense even as well, like he got exposed a little bit early.
They were kind of picking on him.
But then after that, I thought Garrison was awesome.
He also, what do he hit?
Hit three.
Hit three.
He had a big stretch there.
He did have a big stretch.
He's so raw still.
Like, Amari's a little more polished.
But Garrison just comes in with so much energy.
You know, we went on a 13-0 run.
And Shannon, unfortunately, I'm not 100% sure what we did.
because that's when Andy Katz was talking to me.
And I assumed we were going to lose.
So I was talking to Andy Katz and he started talking to me.
He really, he's really into politics.
He started talking to me about Andy Bashir.
And he was like, can Andy Bashir be the president?
And I'm talking to him.
And then I'm like, wait a minute.
We're down five.
So I can't say I totally know what happened during that period.
But that was obviously a huge.
I heard a little bit of the conversation going on and I heard you go, I got to get back to this game.
I did.
I get down like three points.
I got to get back to this game.
I really like Andy.
I haven't seen him in like.
Maybe since COVID, but I literally missed that stretch.
I was like, Andy, it's a five-point game.
I got to turn back around.
We all was watching you talk to him.
We thought maybe when they're making the comeback, you're like, okay, I got to keep talking to him.
They're playing well.
You should have just kept talking to him.
We might have won by 20.
That's a good point.
That is my fault.
All right, so we're going to take your calls.
It is loud in here.
So here's what I'm going to ask you.
If you call, it's going to be hard for us to hear.
Please speak up.
Don't ask me how I'm doing.
Just assume it's great.
We're doing great.
We won.
As soon as I say your name, just go.
All right.
Here we go, Billy.
Who's up first?
Jordan.
Jordan.
Go ahead, Jordan.
Hey, Matt.
I just want to say shout out two guys
that's driving all the way out there.
Another shout out to Shannon.
We got a bunch of Bulletsiech alumni here.
All right.
Go chargers.
Great win from the cat.
I think Mark Pope, fruit.
And he's one of the best coaches in the country.
I think that's two top five net wins this year already.
It's a great win, man.
We're feeling great.
It is a great win, and two top five net wins.
I do think that's huge.
I mean, I saw Matt Norlander say on Twitter,
this is a seed line victory, basically, meaning you might get one seed line higher for winning this.
This technically is a rote, is a neutral game,
but they also treat it as like a neutral plus
because they realize you're only a few miles from campus,
so actually you will get more credit for this than you will.
a regular neutral game.
Yep.
And not just our resume,
which looks as huge for them,
but I was thinking about
just our fan expectations.
Before halftime,
it's like, well,
maybe we're not what we thought we were.
Now you come back and win this one,
and I'm walking with Mario.
Yeah, we're title.
Well, I'm thinking that.
But then I opened on Twitter,
I saw the field of 68 was live,
and John DeFanta said something like,
Big Blue Nation,
whatever you're drinking,
drink it all because you are for real.
Like, you are everything.
Yeah, why not?
You are in the conversation.
This is not a,
fluke you beat duke and gonzaga you've looked so good he's saying whatever you want to think be crazy
go be crazy duke beat auburn who i thought had been the best team in the country
shannon gonzagga beat baylor by 40 i don't know how did they lose to west virginia i have no i
didn't watch that game so i don't know but yeah you should be excited when you looked at the
schedule when it first came out the three games duke and then the last two that we just had
we're going to be the defining games to where you were like okay we know what we have and we said i
said, I hope we go one and two.
Well, we went two and one, and we beat the two best teams of the third.
Duke and Gonzaga are two of the best teams in the country.
Flat out, no argument.
And we just beat both of them.
I think that says a lot.
And tonight, you know, it's rare Kentucky fans are outnumbered.
We were.
We were.
You shoot 28% from three.
You're better than that.
Lamont Ballard doesn't play.
Kirk Creeza goes down with an injury, and you come back from down 16 and a half time to be Gonzag.
I mean, Kentucky's for real.
Just quickly.
We gave a lot of shout out.
to all the players and they deserve it.
The first half, one-on-one, you know, like we talked about with screens and that, we got our play.
The coach made some of great changes.
Like, Mark Pope deserves so much credit.
Like, that is called coaching.
That's half-time adjustments.
That's called, like, being able to study film, like he says, gathering data.
Like, all that stuff was absolutely unbelievable.
Like, that's the stuff you want to see from your coach, because we may not have the most talented team.
But if we can out-skinned, guys, then we're going to be a right.
I totally agree.
And one of these days, we will have the most talented team.
Like right now we don't have the, I don't, we're not the most talented team.
But one day we will have that.
And then when you get that kind of coaching, let me read you Fran for Shillis tweet.
This is kind of an amazing tweet from a national media member, Shannon.
You like, you're kind of a dude who likes Shade.
And he likes Fran.
This is Fran for Shill.
I like Fran.
I hated to see BYU lose Mark Pope.
But we saw this outstanding coaching last year in the Big 12.
Every Kentucky fan should send a thank you note.
to Andy Enfield for leaving Arkansas.
I like that.
But that's kind of a shot.
It is.
Well, yeah, Andy Enfield.
I mean, he's basically saying thank Andy Infield, or excuse me,
Andy Infield for leaving USC, so that Musselman goes so that Cal goes.
Yeah.
Sorry.
I think that's, we should.
And if he want to do that, we can make that happen.
I'll gladly sign him one.
I'm trying hard.
They're showing the replay here.
I'm really trying hard not to look backwards, but we don't win that game.
Oh, stop.
We wouldn't even have been.
I mean, to be honest with you, let's be real.
We saw that game last year at Rupp Arena.
We were down 17 at halftime, and we lost my 20.
This time we came back and won.
And we praised Mark Few for making the coaching adjustments last year.
This year, Mark Pope makes the coaching adjustments against Few.
So who's up next?
Matthew.
Matthew, go ahead, Matthew.
Hey, first of all, it's Patu.
It's like Matthew, but with a P.
Secondly, I'm glad you guys made it out there safely.
Safe travels back home to you.
They've got one question for you, and I'm going to hang up and listen.
Tell me who's in the house tonight.
You can.
There you go.
Pathew.
Never heard of a Pathieu?
You ever heard of a Pathieu before?
No, never.
They just keep giving Drew Fireball shot.
No, this is straight bourbon.
I don't want to be...
It's only 11 o'clock here.
I don't want to be a granite chicken fry right now, but Mark Vue is really small.
I didn't realize how small he was.
He's a little guy. He's a tiny little guy.
Like, I didn't, I thought he was like seven foot.
I was like, he's four foot tall.
I couldn't tell. I mean, we were way up in the rafters.
I couldn't tell how big it was.
That was the scariest press row of all the time.
It felt like you were gonna fall off the edge of the earth.
I don't really, you have vertigo.
Yeah.
When we stood up for the national anthem, I didn't feel safe.
Did you?
It hit me with just walking on the corridor to our seat.
If someone came up behind and gave you a good stiff pat on the back, you very well could have tumbled over.
It was, that was, I don't, as a lawyer, former lawyer, I think they need to redesign that.
You're not an architect though.
Well, they're asking for an injury there. I'm a little worried.
When I was just reaching over my computer at one point to like plug in, I thought my hat was going to fall off and land on the court.
Yeah. I've covered a lot of.
away games and they usually give me bad seats because I work for KSR. That's the worst
seat I've ever had ever. Yeah, I mean that was we were on this stage but it was nice to be
in historic climate play. Yeah, it was absolutely with their plastic straws or paper straws.
You look like you're about to absow down the wall like you know that high up. That was
we were way up there. Well we had good seats for like you know a few minutes that we got
kicked out. That's right. Let's do really tell if like a ball was going to go in
and just a different sight line. One of the Kentucky baskets I didn't know what in. I thought
I thought our bench was screaming because they wanted a foul,
and instead of it had gone in and they were cheering,
I couldn't tell from the angle we were in.
Who's next?
Snoop.
Snoop.
Go ahead, Snoop.
Hey, Matt Jones.
Robinson was out there.
That buddy was smoothed and a temp on Ethan going to search with his mama, man.
He was smooth tonight, man.
Stay calm and elected.
And I guess, Gunzack, and they didn't realize Mark Pope picked the boys up.
from Wisha, uh, which a brother Wood, Kentucky.
And those boys are ready for anything.
I mean, anything, Matt Jones.
They just ready.
Listen, Robinson and Andrew Carr, Ryan, were dudes down the stretch.
They weren't nervous.
They wanted the ball.
You know, I felt like a couple of our guys looked nervous.
I love O way, but I felt like he didn't want to shoot.
And the one shot he took was not close.
You know, Amari Williams frustrates me sometimes, but he's not scared.
Like he I mean he's definitely not scared listen that little hook shot he hit was a big shot he hit after I mean you know he's not scared
I I I worry a little bit like like Kobe didn't want to shoot but that lineup though that five
did really well down the strike Gonzaga defensively really did took trying to take Otega out and they did
when Brea came in boom they had that number 99 is one of the best defenders we faced it's really good
he was gonna take him most of the game so that's when we needed
Jackson Robinson to step up and Andrew Carr and they did it man and that's what they're supposed to do when you're the best player on the team
You got to step up in a big game. It's a good thing we didn't need those free throws at the end shit
Yeah, because he missed them both but but he did actually get the ball like he tapped the ball away
I tried he made this yeah
I mean you can't have any complaints right now you got the win it was a feel good win they come back
And you know they very well could have laid down it and gotten beat by 25 or 30 points I thought we
Again we could have lost that game yeah
Yeah, I mean we would oh yeah
You know, I mean, there's a world in which you quit, and that's a 30 point.
That's what Baylor did.
And if I'm being honest, if I'm being honest, that's what I thought was going to happen.
Yeah.
Can I make a confession?
I wrote a post that we had already lost at halftime.
Right.
I had to go back and rewrite the whole thing.
Yeah.
There's something to, and I know Matt, you think that I'm a nerd for this, but there's something to.
You love sports psychology.
Correct.
There's something to the way that Pope approaches this kind of stuff, talks about positive things,
only focuses on the things he wants that gives you that belief at halftime.
I mean, that team doesn't.
They've never even played really in Kentucky for that long.
And they come out and they're like, we can still win this.
Because if you don't believe that, you're going to get knocked out by 30.
It was a great.
You're exactly right.
And they do have that belief.
And it was important during the time that Andy Katz was talking to me about politics.
They needed to go on that run at that point.
Because then with 12 minutes left, it was a five-point game.
They basically, you know, got back in it during that straight.
K-A-T-Z, Katz, Katz, Katz, Katz, Katz.
Honestly, I have no idea.
Honestly, I have no idea what happened.
I like Andy. He just kept going. You don't think he can be president? And I'm like, well, I didn't say that.
I was like Garrison for three. What? Did I miss Garrison?
Brandon Garrison hit a three-pointer, yes. I like how he has a job to do also. So he was not
into it.com. What does he know? You know how like he's just running in Andy Bashar or four.
It's sort of like when if you if you go somewhere and you have one person that likes something you like that
no one else does. You know what I mean? So for instance, I don't know. If I, if I,
Like you.
When we went to the Australian restaurant, the guy could speak Australian to me.
I could chat to him for a little while.
Yes, that's exactly.
Like, it was like, hey, I think Andy was like,
you're the only person in here that will want to talk about this,
so I'm going to talk to you.
But it just wasn't the exact moment.
I wish he'd done it at a half time.
Well, he changed the tide, though.
He did change the time.
No doubt.
He did.
All right.
899-28027.
We're going to take a break.
We will come back.
It's the local toy dealer's KSR post-game show.
Welcome back.
It is the local toy dealers, KSR.
our post-game show where's Mario I'm worried about our boy boy very well he had to
carry him home there's a lot of generous fans in here I get a test he got a loud round of
applause when he walked in he got the biggest applause of anybody when he walked in the whole crowd
Mario he's reading some Spanish directions back to the Airbnb right now
we haven't even been to our Airbnb yet I hope it's there we literally drove into town
went straight to the bar for the pregame into the arena this is reminds me of the
LA trip because we drove straight to the game there was no let's set her down to
eat no we left we've already spent more time in Seattle than we did in LA we
we've undersolded a little bit honestly and I'm really like I just want to give
more of a shout out the witch was maybe the biggest pivotal moment in UK
basketball history if honestly like we we haven't we just keep jumping over it
you guys keep laughing that
was pivotal yes I mean Mario was even scared to walk into the building I mean you had
Ryan getting soap rubbed on his head laughing as if it was a joke no this stuff works it
works and I suggest you go there whatever luck you need go there get the candle get the
sage have a bath with your friends have showers with your friends do whatever you need to do
I take a bath with my friends right now I'm so happy they want it's like a BB in bath in
here right this has been a long day by the way I mean I
We woke up this morning in Oregon.
Just for the record.
We woke up this morning in Pendleton, in Eastern Oregon.
We weren't even in Western Oregon.
We were in Eastern Oregon.
We drove through an ice storm that if it had been two degrees colder,
would have been treacherous through those mountains.
We got through it.
We got to Seattle.
I don't even really feel like I've been here
because we've just parked and been walking around.
It's been quite a day.
Pulled in, went straight to the bar for the first.
free game show, went straight to the arena for the game, came straight to this bar for the
post game show.
Oh, it has been, I saw Mario's post earlier where we met the family from Pineville.
Yeah.
That was today.
Yeah, no.
So I saw this picture right before our show and I actually got mad at myself.
I'm like, man, you wore the same outfit two days in a row.
And I was like, wait a minute, no, that was today.
That was today.
We met the, I mean, we ate in Yakima.
Do you all even remember where we ate today?
When we walked in the bar today.
W.W. something.
Drew made a great comment.
He was like.
Cincinnati feels like two weeks ago, maybe three weeks ago.
That Bingle Steelers game was two months ago.
The Iowa trip going to shoot from the Caitlin Clark shot, that feels like three weeks a year.
Listen, this has been, in all seriousness, it's been a great, like, it's been a lot of fun,
but it's also been great with you all, the engagement.
I mean, we, the morning show hit the top 20 nationally in podcast episodes.
We've hit the top 20 in the show, but episodes during NFL season, that'll happen sometimes in March,
madness but during the NFL season that never happens that just shows how many of you
have followed and we really do appreciate it I'll give you a little insight I
had to stay at the bar because Matt didn't want to buy me a ticket because I like
ramen so I basically got left out and I got banished from the group so I had
to sit the bar but anyway there was a lot of UK fans that came up to me and were
asking me the typical questions like what's it really like on the trip all that kind
stuff I'll give a little teaser there's gonna be a great story on Tuesday
that's gonna be told by Shannon
Matt, Drew, the guys that went to Pendleton Bar.
Oh, yeah.
It's going to be unbelievable.
So stay tuned for that because that might be the story of the truth.
You should come in Tuesday.
You'll come in Tuesday for the afternoon.
No, because I'm going back to Pendleton.
Pendleton, Oregon.
We're just going to drop you off there.
You left your heart in Pendleton.
All right, who's up next?
Jordan.
Jordan.
Hey, Matt, so tonight, I had to get out of Matt right as quick as I could.
to get to the chance bar and grill.
He wore a UK jersey to his set, right?
He did.
It was number nine.
It said right from the back.
He held the show too long, though.
So I got out of there as quick as I could.
I showed up to KS Bar and Grill at halftime, down 16.
We didn't know who wanted to say or not.
But Kentucky started battling back, and I can say, for your bar,
it was the loudest crowd I've been to in that.
on a long time with the catch chance with the fun with everything the bar was wild tonight
that's awesome i'm glad to hear it i was hoping somebody would send me a video so people didn't i
was worried everybody would leave at halftime they stayed through it people nobody left it
whenever i showed nobody left everybody rallied through it everybody had a great time the way if
anybody has a video i would love to post it on the k s bar account i would love to see the video
of the bar because i bet it was good but i obviously
was not there.
The catch chance were wild throughout the entire second half.
I mean, we immediately, I mean, the second half was just run.
We started, I mean, we just played so good.
We looked so good.
It was a great time.
And then also, I have one thing for Max.
Max, my buddy Adam Banks, Max, my buddy Adam Banks wants me to tell you hello.
And he also said that you need to come on his podcast again for our March Madness series.
All right.
We'll talk about it, not at 2.30 in the morning, and we'll figure it out.
But thank you very much, and I appreciate the call.
That's the Martin County guy.
Hey, Martin County, how we doing?
How are you the one that called?
Good to see you.
I just saw a picture.
It did look like if people were going nuts.
I don't know who at the bar is posting on the account, but I saw a video.
It's supposed to be Mario, but he was here, so how would he even know?
Well, whoever did.
Mario has an intern, I think.
I have one question about excitement, and I'm trying to temper it, not lose my mind.
If we could make a layup, what would we have won?
Oh, my goodness.
If a layup would go in, what would have?
How many layups do we get?
There are so many things Kentucky didn't do well and still won that game.
It makes me think, well, if they do hit their threes.
That's true.
But to be fair, Gonzaga missed some open shots there in the second.
Well, that was our defense.
Yeah, they missed a.
They went really cold from three until the end there.
They only shot.
I asked Mark in the post game, I said, if I told you you had scored 90
and you only hit seven threes, would you have?
believed it he just went no and he said we've got to work on getting more open threes we know
that there were several possessions on the defensive end where Gonzaga got the offensive rebound like
three times my god and he kicked it back out for another open look offensive rebound another open
and they missed all those on them missed all of them on one of them who's up next Mike
Mike Mike go ahead Mike Mike okay no Mike we'll go to Chris Chris Chris by the
way we hit the KSR Parlay plus a big one.
Uh-huh see another KSR plus or gone gone yeah our parlay hit plus 13 50
that's our biggest one yeah we have plus 900 that's a great one I go ahead Mike
Chris Chris Chris Chris hey guys so how good is it to have coaching it is it's
awesome that you're exactly right that is
That is one of the coolest things is to know, like, to know that you can have that deficit and we could come back.
Right.
I mean, some belief, right?
Number two, second point.
Flintston beat us up a little bit, right?
Like, I think they tried to do that again.
I think teams are trying to create a blueprint, how to beat us.
And if you don't stop it now, it will go on all year, which we've seen year after year.
So it's nice to see us put a stop to it right away, right?
Like totally agree with that.
Appreciate the call.
We wilted physically in the first half.
I mean, from a, from a physicality standpoint, we did not meet Gonzaga's challenge.
But then in the second half, they turned that around.
So I said, we got to figure out what's, what's holding them back because the Duke game, minutes into it,
I remember saying shouldn't be on the same floor with these guys.
This is going to get ugly.
Even tonight, I think some of us were ready to drive back to Lexham before halftime.
Met the guy that went to the bathroom.
He never came back.
I don't know what you can change
maybe it's experienced but they got to get off to better starts
when they know they can fix a bad start
but this is twice they've gone off getting so bad
yeah
I couldn't hear what you said
because that guy was talking to me
I was talking and couldn't even really tell what I was saying
it's okay and it's like when we ever we pause
I don't think people were on the
think we're on the air
he could tell Drew was talking
he got my back to him
yeah so I'm sure I made a great point
I don't even know what I said
It's late.
Oh, the slow starts.
Fix the slow start.
The one thing that Butler being at actually kind of like cleared up maybe for us
and we're going to keep learning more and more things about the team is
is maybe, and even the cruiser injury maybe a little bit.
Robinson comes in, you get Brad to play a little more minutes.
He gets to spread the floor out.
He might not be our best player and he might, he's missed a lot in the last three games.
He spreads the floor out, gives us more chance to score.
He does.
All of a sudden, Carr gets a bit more space.
That's right.
He gets to playing space and Carl was awesome one-on-one.
Bray is defense.
He's obviously a weakness.
So when he makes a good play, he needs to be celebrated,
like two games ago where he took a charge.
Tonight he made a great block,
and that was cleaner than hell,
and he got called for a while there.
So I hate it when a guy who's not good defensively,
makes a great play and he's not a reward for it.
We know that Bray is a good shooter.
I don't know what's been going on the last couple of games.
I mean, he had one that went off the side of the backboard tonight.
That's not a good shot.
And that's not characteristic.
Second half.
Yeah, that is not him at all.
So if we get him back on track, we're going to be in good shape.
All right, we're going to take a break, and we will come back for a final segment here,
kind of wrap up the night, wrap up our trip.
We are not, we are off on Monday because we're flying back.
Monday will be Billy, who you got in with you Monday?
It's me and Myron, host on the show Monday.
Somebody's got to stay back and run the show.
Mary Monday with Myron and Billy, and then we will be back on Tuesday.
We will take a break and be right back.
This is the local toy dealers, KSR, post-co.
game show welcome back final segment is the local toy dealers Ksr post game show
by the way in college football just for the record one of us played college
football the other four did not amongst the two of us one person in the major
conference games went oh and three that would be the guy who won the Ray Guy
Guy Ward and one person went three and oh that would be the person me that you
made fun of on the drive and acted like I would not know what an out route was
Yeah, I mean, you take Davos-Win-side and just tell Australians that they don't know what they're talking about
We don't want them on our team I mean you and him are very very similar
You know love God, you know all those kind of things like you do you do love God
And also yeah we can't let these Australians take over our game
Dabo was just so cringy after the game you guys missed it but oh my god
It was it was hard to say and I'm so disappointed that he's made it but it makes it even better now when they lose by 50 in the first round
Yeah, they will they they probably be interesting they probably won't get a buy
They'll probably be the team that has to play.
Oh, yes, I think they will.
They didn't even know they were.
Look at that guy's excited.
This is a very happy fan base right now.
Yeah.
A lot of these people like us came from Kentucky out here to watch the game,
and you win, you got to celebrate.
And also back home, it's 240 in the morning in Lexington, Kentucky,
and our phone lines are full.
It's too 40.
And it probably, we probably could go to six a year.
We've shouted out the witch.
We've shouted out Mark Pott
We've shouted out the guy that stayed in the bathroom
We maybe didn't talk great about Danny
Who made the bad prediction
There's one person we actually need a ridicule
Above anyone else
Your pregame
Johnny Rocker underrated player is just a curse
I believe it might be
You're gonna have to do better with your Johnny Rocker
Don't know don't choose anyone
Just choose the other team now
You know what
Johnny Rocker's even disappointed
Yeah
The guy chose Kerr in the
Clips in game.
He was awful.
He was off.
If you got hurt tonight.
If you pick him again, it's going to be really bad for him.
He's got canceled the endorsement if you pick him again.
So don't do that.
All right.
Who's next?
Heather.
Heather, go ahead, Heather.
Howdy, guys.
I'm so excited that it's kind of giving me a headache because of just the excitement.
But first of all, I think that was.
a
dig on bad
crappy technical
that they caught
on Garrison
because we would have won
in regulation
had they not
called that technical
and
Gonzaga made the
free throws from it
so that was bad
yeah I didn't understand
that technical at all
and then the guy from
Gonzaga did the same thing
two plays later
like they gave him a technique
again from where we are we couldn't see
but apparently he just like yelled after a
it would have
have to be something verbal because there was nothing that you could see that would cause a
technical foul.
In the arena, they didn't even make an announcement.
So, like, why are they shooting pre-dress?
The ref was out of position.
Like, Garrison had his back to him.
Yeah, I have no idea.
And I have no idea what he did.
From where we were, we couldn't really see.
On the replay, it just showed him when he made it.
He turned around just like all the other people, when they make a basket,
and they turn around and, you know, just celebrate and, you know.
And there was a Gonzaga guy right there, and even Jimmy Dach was saying, like, that was bad tall.
But anyway, I think that it's going to hurt Cal like a hog bite win, hope wins,
the SEC coach of the year, maybe even the whole, you know, NCAA coach of the year.
And one more point was, I think that they play with heart.
They come out and they leave their heart on the floor and that's what wheels them to me.
And I'm so proud of them.
I agree with all that.
I appreciate the call.
Let me give you, when the game was over, a bunch of text messages come in.
Let me give you some names of people that you may have heard of who had things to say.
All right.
Do it.
Andy Katz, first of all, I ran into him again.
He did not ask me this time about the year.
But when it was over, he did say to me,
man you guys are fun I'm going to be in New York in two weeks this may be the most
entertaining team to watch him college president Rob Doster from field of 68 he text
this team is so much fun I know you guys are loving this hell of a win man
Pope is the best all right Terry Miners wrote an incredible comeback love watching
Pope that's a good one right and then finally Jimmy Dykes who was calling the game
yes that performance was worth your drive what an
incredible game. Yeah, he said something to you before the game. Like hey man, I've been following you guys trip all the way out here
Hope you guys had a good time Jimmy Dykes was following our trip does that make you happy? It does I'm a big fan of Jimmy Dykes
And he's probably wondering why we didn't take Jimmy's jet Jimmy's
He took the words out of my mouth. We all had the same joke we're gonna take we're gonna take it back
Tomorrow or whatever we go by whatever day it is I'm so confused on what day it is at this point
Yeah, I was gonna be Jimmy I got a text from Andy Besheer saying tell Andy Katz is stop messaging
me i'll be fine it's all right we're doing the best we can just say thank you and to listen you can't be
doing that who's up next luke luke what's up luke ah guys i am so fired up it is 2.42 here on the east
coast and i can't sleep because it was such a badass win from a badass team with a badass coach
and i'm just this is it was amazing absolutely incredible uh apparently i don't
know if you guys mentioned or not according to cori pro rye price it was the biggest uh come from or
biggest half time deficit come from behind victory in kentucky basketball history tied for that
i think he meant on the neutral court i think he meant on the neutral court because i mean
the ls u the ls u game that was i think he meant on a neutral court and he just left that out
okay okay fair enough but uh by the way jimmy dykes was not criticizing that technical he said and i quote
Because all Brayna Garrison did with turnaround and say and won, because he got fouled and scored,
Jimmy Dice said, and I quote, he got teed up because we got to get that foolishness out of college basketball.
Screw you, Jimmy Dikes.
You suck.
Get out of here.
You're a nice guy.
And you care about college basketball.
But the boomer energy on that is ridiculous.
Regardless, Pope is dope.
And we run college basketball.
The rest of y'all just exists in it.
And the only reason you get to play is we've got to have somebody to ask the kick.
Go Big Blue, baby.
Wow.
There you go.
You can text that back to Jimmy Dikes.
Dude, I was texting.
I like Jimmy Dikes.
I do, too.
He's a good guy.
He sometimes has a little boomer energy.
I think that's fair to say.
Well, he's a boomer.
That is a call tonight.
I will say this.
People were complaining about Jimmy a lot.
I don't know what he was doing during the game,
but I was getting a lot of people very upset about you.
I like Jimmy Dikes.
I think that what I like,
about when Jimmy Dykes does our games is he knows our team he knows Kentucky
I hate when we get an announcer who doesn't know anything and then just says like
you know the same like gibberish I wish I could hear the commentary because
unfortunately at the bar I was sitting at Oregon Penn State and I was sitting
right next to like 25 Oregon fans but there was enough Kentucky fans in there that
they were clapping and cheering and all that kind of stuff and Oregon had at one
stage a two-yard run and the Kentucky fans went nuts because they hit a big three
and the Oregon guy goes there's a two-yard run why don't
Why do we care about that?
Let's just relax.
It's like, no, dude, Kentucky.
This is the Kentucky basketball.
I'm confused about this.
There were people at the bar here that weren't at the game.
I feel like if you made it this far?
Him?
It's true.
Who would come all the way out and not go to a game?
We drove you over 2,000 miles to watch it on TV, which you could have done from home.
It was me.
It was me, everyone that loves Roman, and so penetrator.
I can't.
I can't tell you.
When we walked into this place, Shannon and I walked in, they were like,
five people. They were all watching the UFC fight. And I told him, I said, look, can we do our
radio show? There's going to be a lot of people come in. I don't think he understood how many people
were really going. By the way, there's two bars who owe us a cut. I'm just saying the pregame and
post game, these people are at least been nice about it. If you watch my rapid reaction,
I'm trying to talk about the game with fans walking out and the whole video is just going,
where's Ryan? Where's the post game? I'm trying to get people on topic and it's just like,
what bar are we going to? Yeah, who's up next?
Janie.
Jamie, what's up?
Hey, I just want to say how excited I am as a lifelong fan
in representing Big Lou Nation tonight.
I just wanted to comment on when you guys were talking earlier
about just excitement and just the feel of, you know,
being excited about the cats this year and what we have to look forward to.
You know, not that we aren't always excited,
but just saying that I really am really looking forward to this season in general
and excited that we're all looking forward to each and every game coming up.
And I want to make a comment about the players tonight.
Of course, Jackson Robinson and Andrew Carr, I thought were clutch.
And I think they said they were 12 for 14.
The combined 28 points in the second half, I mean, how awesome is that?
But did anyone notice that Jackson Robinson never breaks a sweat, it seems like?
I think that that was an interesting.
He's a cool customer.
You're exactly right.
Janie, I can't hear you.
I'm sorry.
I would listen.
We can't hear you.
But I did hear you say Jackson Robinson was a cool customer.
So thank you very much, Janie.
Appreciate it.
Field of 68 just tweeted out.
Mark Pope has won more games, Shannon, in five weeks,
trailing by 16 points at halftime than John Caliperi did in 15 years.
That is unbelievable.
That's the style of the night right there.
1-0 versus 0-6.
That feels like a little bit of a cheap shot.
Well, I mean, look, the stats, the stat.
He didn't make that up.
I mean, it is what it is.
It's a little bit of a cheap shot.
Like, it's what a random thing to tweet out.
Whoever tweeted that out tweeted out at 2.20 in the morning.
You got to do a little digging for that, too.
You know?
I ain't wrong, though.
All right, two more.
Who's next?
Aaron.
Aaron, what's up?
Matt, how you doing today?
It's a good day for the Kentucky Wildcast, my guy.
I'm not going to lie.
at first time we hired folks.
I was a little skeptical.
Skeptical I am no more.
But much like the guy in the bathroom at 11.22 p.m. today, I texted the group chat,
and I said I had to stop watching the game.
I sat in front of my TV, head down, texting everybody that I knew about the game to keep me calm.
So shout out to Baxter, Jared, and Daniel.
Shout out to the Kentucky Wildcats.
And shout out to Mark Pope, man.
There you go.
Appreciate the cut.
That's a hell of a win.
Appreciate the call.
Let me also say, I'm going to give a shout out Shannon to Mitch Barnhart.
He made a hire that at the time was completely unpopular.
And it has ended up working out.
You can shake your head, Max.
I wasn't shaking my head, Mitch.
No, he did.
I mean, sorry, he wasn't.
But seriously, I mean, it took guts to make that higher, and he defended it.
You know, I've talked about that.
I had a conversation with him the morning before the show.
And he goes, Matt, this will be the right call.
And I was like, all right, if you say so, well, it was.
There were a lot of big names, a lot of big names for the candidate for coach here.
And, you know, he kind of went outside the box with Mark Pope, you know, a guy who has never won an NCAA tournament game in his coaching career.
And so far, it's still early.
So far, it looks like a great hire.
I have another Mitch take.
And I've seen this before, but I walk by Mitch tonight.
He gets so intense in games.
Oh, yeah.
I don't think people realize because you get, you get like press conference Mitch and media Mitch,
and he's just a nice, wholesome guy.
You catch him mid-game.
Oh, he gets into it.
He'll yell at a ref, too.
He yells at the officials.
He'll let a ref know what's, uh, give him the hearing there.
I saw some of that tonight.
I mean, he's, he's passionate and he's into it.
Not that he shouldn't be, but, I mean, I saw it first-hand tonight.
I've come up some Mitch feedback, not always positive on the sidelines sometimes when the team hasn't been gone.
You and he, you and he, as to quote him about Cal, you don't trade.
Christmas card.
Well, he and I don't either.
But he did, he did.
You don't even have, why would you have a relationship?
With Mitch Barnhart?
Yeah.
Don't you remember me asking about the checker boards?
Oh, he didn't like that.
That was a long time ago.
I mean, I'm just saying, I did challenge him.
You did.
He didn't like being challenged.
Yeah, well, now you see why I don't ask Vince.
Two more.
Who's next?
I think it's one more.
Oh, one more.
Okay.
Butler.
Butler, go ahead, Butler, finish strong.
Lamont.
Heck yes, and I will.
Can you hear me?
Gotcha.
All right, awesome.
All right, first of all, shout out to Billy,
because when I told him, my name was Butler, he said,
your first name is Lamont?
And I said, no, I wish.
I mean, who wouldn't want to be on the Kentucky team, right?
But I have two serious questions for you, Matt.
Okay.
First of all, first of all, does the, I'm sorry, three points thing that Pope did.
Do you think he did that to get teams to force us on the outside so we can drive in?
No, he wants to shoot four-threes.
He wants to, this defense that teams are playing, I think you'd rather not see it.
I mean, this is how you play against Kentucky, but if they continue to be able to beat them with backdoor cuts,
if Jackson Robinson steps up, teams will not be able to play like this.
I mean, you know, we only scored 34 points in the first half,
but it's also worth noting we scored 56 in the second half in overtime.
So if we play like we did in the second half, teams will not be able to play us the way they did in the first half.
Right, but we were shooting like crazy in the first few games, and now all the all the teams.
heard him say.
Yeah, they're extending their defense out.
I don't think it was a roper dope.
I think he wants.
Okay.
He wants to shoot threes.
Okay, I mean, he, you know, he wants to shoot threes,
but teams, I think, correctly said,
well, we're not going to let you beat us like that.
And I think Western actually was probably the team that gave the best blueprint.
Yep.
And then Clemson utilized it.
And then Gonzaga utilized it.
And now we kind of do the counter to their counter.
Okay, my second question.
question is it took me about 30 to 40 times dialing before I got in.
Do you think nowadays it's harder to get into a sports talk show like you're all than it was back in the day?
You said you call in yourself.
Well, yeah, I mean, look, this is, I mean, I'm not trying to pat our own backs here, but no, this is the most, you know, for a non-official, a non-official UK
show. I mean, the official UK shows when Kay Wood hosted and all that. It was a massive thing.
But for a non-official UK show, this is the biggest one that's that's been around.
KSR, in my opinion, is the biggest show there is because I've been calling in since before who all
even exists. It's hard. You're exactly right. Yeah, it's harder now. I appreciate it.
Especially after a big win like this. It's harder. Hey, uh, it's good night.
To get back with the offense that he plays, just to answer that question.
If you go watch Golden State at their best, when they were shooting every three possible,
a lot of their points come from backdoor cuts.
They do.
Draymond Green would be up the top, just dishing backdoor cuts.
Clay Thompson, the amount of backdoor cuts you get.
And that's what we're going to get.
And we got more in the same hour.
We got more of them.
That's exactly right.
There was a play that we didn't get rewarded for.
Amari Williams, I know he can be able to turn around.
He made a nasty pass to a backdoor cut.
Jackson Robinson missed the layup.
It was like David Copperfield.
That was a great pass.
He's a good passer.
It was like Witchcraft.
He's a good practice.
He should never dribble.
But he is a good pass.
Max said on pregame, get him the ball,
and I know people are frustrated with him.
As long as he's not dribbling.
Yeah, I totally agree.
Just don't dribble.
And he's good at the little handoffs when guys come around.
He might hit those free throws tonight, too.
He did hit those free throws.
Those were big free throws.
All of us were big.
All of us were covered around.
Because he missed Carr for what would have been a layup.
And then he got fouled, and I was like, oh, and then he made the two free throws.
Those were a big.
All right, so trip is over.
First, two things.
First of all, you guys had a blast.
We do this once a year, sometimes twice in the summer.
But I thought this one was a lot of fun.
I hope you guys had a fun, too.
It was a lot of fun.
You know, we got to do some cool things, go to some place we've never been before.
And the fact that ends on a great game like this, a great win, just makes it all worthwhile.
So thank you.
Thanks to all the people at Tim.
didn't listen to. Having been the one that's done more of these than anyone with you,
this was the most driving, but we maximized our non-driving opportunities. It was fun the whole
way. It was a lot of fun. I'm trying to remember like what was my favorite part. Maybe
you asked me Tuesday when I have a chance to think, yeah, last night was a lot of fun at
karaoke. We'll talk about that next week. But yeah, just a good way to put a bow on this trip
with a great win, a good feel good win tonight. And I wish Mario was on here. This was his first one.
I'd like to get his take, but he is busy.
Two sheets to the, how many sheets to the win?
Max, this is your second one.
I appreciate you joining this.
I hope you had fun.
It was awesome.
It really is.
And, like, honestly, like, the thing that I just continue to marvel at is, like,
we'll go the middle of nowhere, and there'll be a Kentucky fan that comes out.
It really is awesome.
We come to Seattle, and there is a line out the door around the street,
six miles down the road of people trying to get in.
I've got past trainers from Kentucky football messaging me.
Can you please sneak me in?
I'm sorry that I couldn't, but like it's unbelievable, and it's awesome to be a part of,
and I just love every moment of it.
Yeah, I mean, in Cincinnati from an ESPN show, we probably had 40 or 50 people come back.
We had like, so long ago.
I know.
We had 10 people in Iowa City, right?
We had like seven or eight people in Kearney, Nebraska.
Carnegie, Nebraska.
We had a couple of people in Vale, Colorado, right?
We had people in Salt Lake City.
I'm missing one.
Where else did we go?
Fort Collins.
Fort Collins.
We had a restaurant.
We had 50 people come watch the game at the restaurant.
We had, you know, 10 people come by our house in Windsor, Colorado.
We had 25, 30 people come to Salt Lake and then pregame and post game.
I'm telling you, BBN is the best fan base, but hyper specifically, the KSR fan.
you guys are the absolute best and then you're the reason you know Ryan
people give him a hard time with saying you're the reason we do this we really are
I mean and sometimes all it ever takes when I get frustrated with with various
parts of this job all you got to do is one time go on the road and meet people out and
you see why it's so awesome and I'm glad everybody got this victory tonight enjoy it
we play Colgate on Wednesday rush your teeth that will be a cleansing
game. Hopefully we'll have a packed house in Rupp Arena
Wednesday night. We are going to be traveling back on Monday.
I'm skipping my ESPN show tomorrow since it is three in the morning.
We're traveling back on Monday. Billy and Myron will be on the show
Monday and then we'll all be back Tuesday. Getting ready for the game on Wednesday.
Ryan, Bax, Shannon, Drew, Mario,
wherever the heck you are. Billy in studio. We'll see you all later.
Cats with a huge win over Gonzaga.
This has been the local Toyota dealers, KSR, post-game show.
