What?
Time out.

A rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?

Welcome, everyone.
It is the local 20 dealers, KSR postgame show.
The Cats, with an absolutely dominating performance,
beating Alabama 117 to 95 to go to 19 and 8 on the season
with four games to go and beat a top, well, I guess Alabama was 13th team in an awesome
Rupparina.
You can give us a shout.
Billy will open it up at the end of this segment.
When you look at this game, there's a lot of ways to go and a lot of things to talk about.
But to me, the most interesting, like, way to look at it is to say, Alabama shot 57% from the
field and was never in the game after the first eight or 10 minutes.
I mean, you shoot 57%.
you probably think you're either going to win,
well, you probably think you're going to win.
And they lost by 22 points.
At one point they were shooting 54% and they were down 35.
Kentucky absolutely offensively was a machine.
I mean, they were a machine.
Kentucky shot 63% from the field.
They were 13 for 24 from 3.
At one point, they were 13 and 18.
Justin Edwards' career game.
goes 10 for 10 from the field, which this stat, again, I love Kentucky basketball history
stats because, you know, we have such a rich history, so I like to think about this stuff.
Justin Edwards, that's the third most field goal attempts made in a game where you don't miss one
in UK history. Kenny Walker was 11 for 11 once, and Rodney Dent was 12 for 12 once.
And now Justin Edwards, who is not a, is not.
not a big. Now neither is, I mean, Kenny was kind of played a similar position, but 10 for 10.
Only the third player in UK history to have double-digit field goal attempts and not miss one.
Who would have ever imagined he would be that guy this year, but he has 28.
Antonio Reeves was great again with 24. Big Z with 18 and like, played really well,
not just like random points, played really well. It was a perfect fit for him tonight with the way Alabama
plays. And my biggest takeaway from tonight is when Kentucky plays this style that you just saw
better than anyone in the country right now. I mean, I think you could make a strong argument
that the three best running offensive teams are Alabama, Kentucky and North Carolina,
and Kentucky is now beaten both of those other teams. So if you get in the tournament
and you get against a team that likes to play like that,
I like Kentucky's chances a lot
because they kind of out Alabama-d Alabama today,
hit more threes, you know, got up and down the floor.
It gave up 95 and we're never in,
the game was never in doubt.
That's pretty awesome.
And it was interesting after the game,
listened to the coaches,
and Nate Oates said something kind of interesting.
He said, I sort of wonder if,
cows found his lineup because they may just
he goes if he can't stop that
offensive lineup it doesn't matter if they can guard and I
I've kind of wondered about that all year
I mean the difference though is how good
offensively they can be when Justin Edwards is like that
because he went long stretches
where he basically played three guards
Justin Edwards and a big whether it was
most it was a V-sitch most of the time
who go a little bit
but Justin Edwards at the four playing like that.
Like, you can't guard them.
And basically, if you look at it, both teams were scoring a lot
the first 10 or 12 minutes of the game.
And then Kentucky went on a run where Alabama didn't score for like 10 possessions,
and we built up a 12 or 14-point lead.
They never looked back from then.
But if you go look at the way they played from about the 10-minute mark
in the first half,
to the 10-minute mark in the second half.
Edwards was playing the four most of that time,
and they just could.
They could not guard Kentucky because there's just too many offensive weapons
and the fact that he can be at the four and shoot threes like he did.
He went four for four.
I mean, he's not going to do that every game, but that's still awesome.
And then you had Reeves, who was great.
Dillingham had good minutes, you know.
Wagner didn't play particularly well,
but he still kept it going.
Shepard made shot.
Shepard had, well, I guess Shepard had six.
It felt like he had more than that, but he, or eight, but he had six assists.
So you get a game like that.
Like, I mean, that lineup, you can't play that lineup against everybody.
But that lineup of Shepard, Reeves, Dillingham, Edwards, and Z, you know, they can score 150 points.
Now, they might give up 140, but if they're shooting like that, I don't know that it matters against some teams.
Now, can they do it against a team that plays physical and grinds it out?
That was a question Bill Rafter he talked about during the game,
and I don't know the answer to that.
I mean, you look at Kentucky's wins.
They've beaten a certain kind of team.
Their best wins are against teams that are pretty good offensively,
North Carolina, Alabama, and Auburn.
Their worst losses are against teams that are physical and slow it down.
So we'll see.
But they get a team like this in the tournament, they're not losing.
And it gets me to, well, there's four games left in the season.
Two of them are Arkansas and Vandy at home.
Let's assume we win those.
Although Arkansas's playing better, but let's assume we win those.
That makes you 21 and 8.
Then you're at Mississippi State and you're at Tennessee.
Let's just say for sake of argument, you split those.
Be 22 and 9.
all right you'll go into the SEC tournament you may or may not get a buy it's going to be close
depends on which of those games you win probably but you'd be 22 and nine and i think you'll end up
with that record as a four or five would you want to be a one seat and see this team sitting
there for you in the sweet 16 i don't think you would because when they play like this they
can beat anybody.
And it's also worth noting, you know, we've talked about a lot at various points,
the struggles of this team.
But it is worth noting how close they are to being a two-seed or maybe even contending
for a one.
I mean, Rob Dillingham misses a free throw against Florida.
They also chose not to foul, but either of those things go different.
They probably win that game.
It's kind of a fluky play there at the end of the game.
the LSU game, although in hindsight, Dillingham, if he was there, probably would have boxed out.
And then at A&M, they had the ball and just turned it over.
You know, those are three games that easily could have gone the other way.
And what if they were sitting here 22 and 5 and going for a one seat?
We'd have a completely different view.
So this will be the most hard to anticipate March for Kentucky.
that I think we've ever had.
I mean, in 2014, they went on an amazing run,
but I don't know that we went into the tournament thinking they would.
This year, they could go into the tournament,
and there's almost nothing they could do that would surprise me.
If they won the whole thing, it wouldn't be crazy.
They lost the first round, depending on what their seed is,
wouldn't be crazy.
I mean, it's going to be nerve-wracking, but it's exciting.
because you still, as today showed,
you still can't give up on this group
because they just are so explosive when they're going.
And I think it's worth also saying,
obviously Justin Edwards played amazing,
but he deserves a game like this.
He's taken a lot of criticism.
He underachieved for much of the year,
but he is probably in the last five to six games next to Reeves
been our most consistent player.
It's kind of been under the radar because he hasn't put up huge points,
but he's been our most consistent player,
and he's become a really good defender.
And Cal stuck with him the whole time.
A lot of people, myself included, were saying,
man, why does he keep starting him?
Well, it's paying off right now.
And if he stays consistent, he gives you an option,
especially if Cal's willing to play him at the four,
he gives you an option to just become unguardable offensively.
At the three, he's now a lot better than he was.
But at the four, I just think, I don't know how you guard this team if he's playing
at the four the way he is.
So it was a great win, great crowd, nice to get a Kentucky, a win at home in that kind
of environment.
We've had three really good environments here in the,
second half of the year, and it was nice to get a victory in one of them.
And now go to Mississippi State on Tuesday night, another midweek game in a random SEC town,
and we need to get a victory.
I was going to be at the bar for, if anybody's there, I'm very sorry that I went down there,
Billy, and I couldn't get connected, and I left the backup equipment at home, so I'm back home,
unfortunately.
But we'll get to take your calls.
859, 2807.
Kentucky gets a big victory.
They are now, are they, where are they in the SEC?
Are they fourth or fifth, Billy, at this point?
Well, let's see.
Let's look at the standings.
They have five losses.
South Carolina, South Carolina won today, right?
They beat, they beat, yes, we have five losses, so we're in fifth right now.
But those teams ahead of us all have pretty hard games.
And we give ourselves a fighting chance to, if Alabama, they still play Tennessee and Florida.
If they were to find a way to lose both those, Kentucky could still tie them.
If you're to beat Tennessee in the final game, they still have a shot to get a first round by
and be able to not have to play on Thursday at the SEC tournament.
859-280-2287.
Big win for Kentucky.
We'll take your calls and take a break.
We'll be right back.
This is the local Toyota dealers, KSR postgame show.
Welcome back.
It is the local toy dealers KSR post game show.
859-280-2287.
One person on the text machine writes, Matt, we had a lineup that we played for seven straight minutes with no sub.
It was the lineup you talked about.
Do you think that was important?
Well, yes, I love it.
I love letting almost any lineup that's not terrible play consistently because you get in a rhythm.
and that rhythm of that group was working.
I mean, tonight, Theero played well, especially early,
so it was nothing against him, but Edwards at the four was working.
And then they kind of Dillingham mostly, but played Wagner a little,
kept Reeves and Shepard in, and Z played great.
I mean, I think there's a lot of teams Z he's not going to be able to play against,
but he can play against this one.
And offensively, you know, he just gives you such a weapon.
So I thought it was, I thought it was excellent.
Before we go to the phones, Billy, do you think we've seen at the end of this year?
Is this going to be it on court storming after what happened today, you think?
Oh, if you saw John Shire's reaction, yes, I think it will be.
But, you know, they don't have a fine system in the ACC.
So there's going to be no.
Yeah, it's only the SEC.
Well, people say, I mean, listen, I love court storming, and I would actually hate to see it end.
Because I do think it is a uniquely college basketball thing.
but two things.
One, people say you can't stop it.
Of course you can.
They don't do it in other sports, right?
So you can stop it if you want to.
Now, you know, I don't know.
People have gotten hurt before, like in small games.
It's just it wasn't on national television.
This was on ESPN.
It's Duke.
And the guy, have they said, is he like,
really hurt? Is Philposky really hurt? Or is it just like, is it going to be like the
Caitlin Clark thing? I haven't seen an update, but if they slowed it down and you can see that
one guy tried to push him in the back and like, you know, they... Yeah, at first it looked like
Philopowski may have pushed the guy, but I actually think it got bumped knees with him.
I don't, so you had, I think the first guy looked like he bumped knees with him and that's where he got
hurt. And then another guy coming from behind looked like he was going to try to push him in
the back. So either way, I love that. I love that. I love courts.
storming maybe so what do you think about this idea somebody suggested you wait like 15 seconds after
the game to get the team off and then let people call i think that's plausible i mean just let everybody
get escorted to the locker room and then just release the fans i but you lose some of that
you know i don't know because i was at the kentucky indiana game in in the 2012 season and i don't
even though i do think you could stop it i also i'm not sure you could have stopped that on the last
second shot. You know what I mean? Because everybody just runs. I don't know. I hate it, though,
because it's a uniquely cool college basketball thing. I know they do it in football too,
but that's more playing. College basketball, a lot of these arenas that the students can just
run right on. I don't know. But you can't have dudes getting hurt. And I feel like maybe they
crossed the threshold today if he's actually hurt. I don't know if he is or not. All right,
who's up first? Kenny. Kenny. Kenny, what's up? Kenny. Hey, how's it going, Matt?
Doing good.
Two quick things.
We had 92 points with 11 minutes of stuff in the game.
I know.
That's amazing.
That's insane.
I thought we were going to score 130, 100.
Well, I was looking up what the all-time was, and the all-time is like 142 or something
in 1956.
I don't know what happened in 1956.
They scored over 100 points nine times that year.
But still, this was pretty amazing.
Yes, it was.
And another thing, Justin Edwards, man.
That kid, he's taken a lot of criticism from the fan base, myself included.
And we've had kids come through here with similar expectations that were not able to live up to him.
And, you know, gave up, didn't pan out, to see him bounce back and be successful and do it with a smile on his face.
man, that just makes me so happy for that kid do it.
And I just, I agree with you on that.
I do.
I think it's really awesome for him because you're right.
I mean, he has been, he's been criticized a lot.
And when I, you know, is it fair?
Is it not fair?
It's, it's, it's tough for freshmen to get criticized.
But he has, he had been disappointing.
But I hope, I mean, he should be praised as much as he was criticized.
These last five games, he's been great.
if he keeps that confidence going i think the sky's limit for him man i'm just i'm just excited for him
well he's definitely got the you're exactly right i appreciate the call i mean if he shoots like that
and he plays part of the disappointment was he was not really playing defense which was the one thing
i always thought he'd be great at well he is now and then when he makes that shot man i mean he's shooting
now the way wagner did at the beginning of the year and that gives you four guys who can be
really, really good three-point shooters.
So I'm happy for him.
You know, they're playing at Kentucky, if it works, like, what's better?
But when you're being criticized, like, it's got to be one of the hardest things,
especially for an 18, 19-year-old kid.
And to see him have that success and bounce back is, it is awesome.
I, you know, I don't know him at all, but I'm really happy for him because he seems like a good dude.
Who's next?
And that bench reaction when he hit that three in the foul when they all came out.
Yeah, that was awesome.
I mean, that's awesome.
Like, because they, you know, those guys know how hard it's been for him, right?
Like, they know.
So that's great.
You know, I said I was walking downtown last night and I saw him and Wagner and a couple of the other guys like on the street.
And, and like he, he seemed so joyous.
He was like telling jokes.
And like, it's just good because he had seen, he had had such a scow on his face all year.
Because I know it probably felt like the way to the way to the.
the world's on him, and it's great to see him have the success he has the last few games.
Who's next? Jeff.
Jeff, what's up, Jeff?
Hey, Matt, great day for the UK. How are you?
Doing great.
Great. A couple of things for you. I've been trying to catch you a couple of times.
There was some of the naysayers that are talking about the way the fair weather fans,
oh, let's get rid of cow, let's get rid of cow.
Always, for the time, I've always been a cow supporter there and what he's going to do.
I mean, you've got a bunch of armchair quarterbacks who weren't.
to run everything.
It's like, well, they're not breaking down film.
They're not looking at everything.
Well, first of all, that's not what a fair weather fan means, by the way.
A fair weather.
I'm not saying, I have never once said and do not, I have not yet and don't expect to say,
I don't want Cal here.
But at the same time, what, that does a fair weather fan, somebody who only cheers when
they're good and doesn't watch, like, when they're bad.
That's not.
We have very few of those people in our fan base.
Now, we do have some that are pretty negative.
And maybe too negative, but that's different than a fair weather fan.
I agree.
I agree with what you're saying.
But I think one of the ones there is, as I hope you agree the way I do,
it's like as much as everybody talks about are the ones that don't want to
are always talking about getting rid of Cal or get rid of somebody else.
Well, you know, the new boss is the same as the old boss.
Be careful what you wish for.
You may just get it.
You know, kind of be happy with what you got.
The man is good, as you said the other night.
We've only got seven coaches that have won national championships.
and he should have won the one with Memphis anyway,
so he should have two rings from there.
That's true.
A couple of others, though, that I think one of the,
some of the fans to get about is I know you remember,
there was a coach a while back, and he's on TV now,
a gentleman by the name of Digger Phelps,
and Digger was on there, and when he was coaching,
he ended up starting five freshmen at a one time,
and for a long time there, and they called it Digger's Daycare.
And for the point there, the fans pretty much ran him out,
and he got tired of him,
youth with freshmen and what they wanted.
And so he ended up leaving the game.
I mean, it used to be that if you wanted to be a point guard in the NBA,
you went to Georgia Tech under Bobby Kremies for one year and then you were a point guard.
Yeah, but none of that really has anything to do with this.
I mean, this Kentucky team right now, part of the reason I think it's been, it's had more,
you look at the Kentucky teams that have had a lot of success here consistently.
Now, I know the 2014 team went on.
on the road.
But it's, or excuse me, went on a run.
But usually there's at least a couple veteran presence.
I mean, imagine what this Kentucky team would be without Antonio Reeves, right?
Oh, my God, yes.
They would, like, getting Antonio Reeves to come back, well, if this team were to make a
final four will be the most important thing that happened, right?
Was getting him to come back.
So I do think having some of those guys has been huge for them.
Two other things real quick, and I'll get off here because I know you got a bunch
of people on it who were as happy as I am about today.
one you mentioned a great thing.
It's kind of like having me.
I'm going to give you one more thing, okay, because you've already done three.
All right, so go ahead.
I'm sorry.
The utility players, you know, these guys can play so many different positions and gets
him so much thing there.
As for storming the court, if you remember a couple years ago, there was one kid.
It was kind of like Sister June.
He was in a wheelchair by the side of the court.
They stormed the court and knocked him out of his wheelchair, and he just about got trampled
until one of the other players picked him out and carried him off the floor.
Well, I don't think that's terrible.
Well, I appreciate the call.
I don't remember that.
But I also think the fact that it happened a couple weeks ago with Caitlin Clark,
and then the fact that it's Duke and it's in this game,
it's in this game that everybody watched.
I think that's going to make it.
It'll pin, though.
If Philpowski's not hurt, they might not do anything.
But if Philpowski, who's going to be a first-round pick, is really hurt,
then I think the days of the court storm might be headed towards the end.
Who's next?
Eric.
Eric, go ahead, Eric.
First time, long time.
Who was?
Hey, love seeing the cats play so well.
Big Z and Justin Edwards, finally getting that sigh relief.
Real quick, I am pro field and court storming.
Got the hug.
Jacob Tammy back in 2007 when Stevie got loose, which was awesome.
I'm anti-ruparina ice cream.
It's just softer.
We're not fooling anybody.
And my last thing, I got a bone to pay.
pick with Billy. Last
football season, my nine-year-old
called after her first football game
and said her favorite part of the game
was the wave. She went to her
first basketball game. She's
a little intimidated to call because she was
a little afraid Billy might get on her again,
but she wanted me to tell Billy that her favorite part
of the game was the go big blue chance.
See you guys. There you go. I appreciate
the call. Billy can be
mean to children. It is
his unfortunate
quality, but Billy, you've been
nicer in the last year or so.
Yeah, I didn't know children were living in fear of Billy R sports.
I think it's all over the state.
Children are scared of Billy.
Been like that for a long time.
By the way, right now I'm watching the end of Georgetown DePaul.
Eight win Georgetown.
Three win DePaul, Billy, coming down to the final possession.
DePaul down one.
Three win to Paul.
You know, there's never been a team, Billy, to go 0 in conference, ever.
because most teams don't play 20 conference games, right?
Yeah.
DePaul, if they lose this, if you look at their schedule,
is almost certain to be the first team to ever go 0 in 20 in conference.
They have the ball down one with eight seconds to go.
So we'll see what happens.
Who's next?
Didn't they beat Louisville this year?
They did beat Louisville.
Yes, they did.
Okay.
TJ.
What's up, TJ?
Hey, man.
You know, it is crazy that Wadker shot,
I think it was Miller or maybe it was Liggins right before.
the bench that got trampled up.
Timler, like Darius could have gotten hurt.
I mean, he didn't.
But like, like they, Darius kind of got caught up in it a little bit.
You know, I, the best and worst of court storms were that day.
That was as loud a crowd as I've ever seen.
I also thought a student was going to get trampled.
I mean, I did.
That's not an exaggeration.
There were people stepping on this kid and I thought this is going to be awful.
And me and a couple other people kind of got him up.
and he just ran away, never saw him again.
But I remember thinking, goodness, I'm amazed somebody hadn't gotten really, really hurt in one of these.
Yeah, definitely.
First off, go Texas A&M.
Hopefully they beat Tennessee.
Two questions for you.
Do you think DJ Wagner lost some playing time after tonight?
And number two, maybe it's because he's a leppy.
Do you think Edwards could be the Terrence Jones different maker for us this year in March?
It is funny how people, like it's so easy to compare lefties to lefties to left.
We always do that, and I don't know what it is about.
But they're different players.
I mean, Terrence Jones was a dude who really liked going in.
I mean, he could shoot, but he was actually kind of physical.
So, no, I don't think they're exactly the same.
But I do think he can be a huge difference maker.
As far as DJ Wagner, they're still going to need DJ Wagner.
I mean, this was a game that kind of, it didn't matter if you didn't have him
because they didn't play defense, you know, Alabama.
but they're still going to be a game when we play a physical team we are going to need to have to have DJ Wagner because he's just the most physical of the guards that we have so but I appreciate to call Billy poor DePaul what happened wide open layup to win the game and he missed it a layup he is on the ground crime missed missed a wide open layup to give them their only win
Oh, my goodness, poor kid.
Made a great move all the way down the court, and he missed a while.
Oh, my goodness.
That's what happens when you're 3 and 24, I think.
Who's next?
Clay's next.
Clay, go ahead, Clay.
Hey, Matt.
How you doing?
Doing good.
Hey, I'm just calling from KS Bar and Grill at the patio here.
Hey, I'm sorry.
I left my equipment, or I would be there.
I feel bad.
Oh, it's all right.
It's all good.
I mean, you probably don't care either way, but I still wish I still said I'd be there.
But go ahead.
No, we still would like to meet you and stuff.
But anyway, we just came from the game and stuff, and I took my dad.
He just turned 73 yesterday in this first ever game.
So I'm pretty sure he was a good luck charm tonight and that this team going forward,
if we can just get a whole balanced attack from everybody, not just one or two players,
I mean, we can just be unstoppable.
I agree with you on that.
I mean, well, first of all, the good thing about this team,
and I appreciate to call, enjoy yourself at the bar there.
John Cal Perry said this.
The good thing about this team is one guy does not have to play well.
We can still win.
Okay, so like last year, we'll go back to two years ago.
Two years ago, when Taita got hurt, we basically had to have Kell and Graham.
Brady makesh shots.
And he kind of went cold towards the end of the year.
Then last year, Oscar was a consistent force, but we kind of needed Antonio Reeves because
Kays and Wallace wasn't 100 percent.
And then against Kansas State, he went cold.
This year, we, I mean, first of all, Reeves has scored double digits in every game
but one, so I still think he's going to shoot well to matter who we play.
But let's say he doesn't.
We got other options.
and that's, again, why they're scary.
We got a lot of options.
And if we could get to the point, so now Edwards is playing well,
and Wagner's not playing so hot.
If we could get to a point that those guys,
Wagner, Dillingham, Shepard, Reeves, and Edwards,
if you can get four of those five guys playing,
you're going to win.
And if you get three, you're probably still going to beat almost everybody.
You just can't only have two.
but in other years it's been like one guy and he had to play well i don't think this team is like
that and that is exciting now that now here's the negative most of our best teams have had a big
dude of some sort who you could count on demarcus anthony davis carl towns bam oscar we don't
really have that. So our guards have got to shoot. This isn't like those years where if everything
else is going wrong, get it to Carl, get it to Anthony, get it to, and they'll, it'll succeed.
We don't have that. So we got to have dudes hit shots and make plays. And when they do,
you get a game like tonight. Who's next? Xerxes. Zerxes. How are you?
Hey, Matt. How do I love this Kentucky team? Let me come.
down the ways. This team
that we watch tonight,
I've already restarted, rewatching the game
right now. I've started rewatching the game right now. I'm so excited.
Yes, as I told Billy, it will definitely be
a hot tub and champagne
and strawberry night tonight.
I am
ecstatic. I mean,
we have so many potent weapons on this
team. I mean,
our cup won it over.
If Big Z can produce like he
did tonight, it's just a
for everybody.
The one team...
Well, that's true.
I mean, if he were to play like tonight,
there ain't nobody beat this.
I do think he...
Exactly.
He ain't going to play like that
against physical big man.
I mean, just, he just not.
Like, he's not...
But tonight, they didn't have a physical big man,
and we'll probably play a game in the tournament
where we play a team that doesn't,
and he can have another night like this.
Well, even if we encounter that physical big man,
draw that big man out the paint
and let big people who work around the perimeter.
I love Z.
It was awesome to see him play like tonight.
The issue for Z against a physical big man is not scoring.
The issue's going to be getting annihilated down low.
So like that's, but again, that's what Ogo's for, right?
Who goes for games like that?
He is.
He is.
But when we have five players who can shoot threes on the court at one time,
this is an extremely dangerous team.
Oh, yeah.
One case and point, how did a dude flubbed that dunk that behind the back pass that Z gave him?
That would have brought the roof down.
Oh, listen, if, and I'm glad you brought that up, Xerxes.
I appreciate the call.
Had a do made that dunk after the behind the back pass.
That's like an all-time highlight play.
We already had the behind-the-back three for Reeves against Georgia.
But that dunk, that one, I thought the one the night,
Billy was even better than the one against Georgia
because it was kind of unexpected, right?
Like you could see the one against Georgia,
he kind of telegraphed it.
That one tonight was amazing.
Did you get to see it?
I know you have to listen to the broadcast.
Yeah, I saw it.
Yeah, and, you know, he just kind of goes out there and plays loose.
That's when he's at his best when he doesn't think about it.
And I mean that in a positive way.
He has the joy of like an eight-year-old child.
Like he's got like, first of all, he looks like a little kid in the face to begin with it.
And then doesn't he just look like a kid who, like, scored his first point every time he scores?
I think he's appreciating it as much as anybody.
He looks as happy as anybody I can ever remember playing basketball when something good goes his way.
All right, we'll take a break.
859-2-287.
Billy, I need all your focus on one thing tonight, okay?
What's that?
every parlay i have comes down to vermont needs to beat bryant okay i have like three all of which could
hit and be a great but it all comes down to vermont and bryant are they on right now or what's
i don't think that's a channel that any americans get but i'm following it on ESPN so i just need you to
put in your inner uh what is vermont known for maple syrup put it on
put some maple syrup on your payoutes the catamouts the catamouts Bernie Sanders
right Bernie Sanders catamounts remember when Vermont they beat somebody in the tournament a few
years ago didn't they uh they beat uh Syracuse I think in the tournament see if I'm right
about that I believe they did they had that coach that was a big character he I co-hosted with
him once on the SPN Brennan do you remember that guy no I do not all right well you're young you don't
know you. All right. We'll take a break.
2807. I'm in a good mood. We'll take a break. Be right back.
It is the local Toyota dealers, KSR postgame show.
All right. Welcome back. Local toy dealers, KSR post game show. I found the Vermont Bryant game.
It's on ESPN Plus. I just turned it on. Vermont, I forgot. All the more reasons.
So even if you all don't care about my parleyes, you know, you know who's on Bryant?
Doug Eddard, the dude from St. Peter's.
Oh, no.
So we got to pull for Vermont just for that reason.
Who wants to see Doug Eddard win a game?
Jerk.
Beat us two years ago.
I'm just kidding.
I don't know.
He might be a nice guy.
So Vermont, let me, okay, so you got, you got maple syrup, Bernie Sanders,
Ben and Jerry's.
Oh, right?
Very nice.
Ben and Jerry's was there.
Okay.
They're the cat amounts.
Now, did you look up?
They won a tournament game, right?
They did.
It was back in...
2005, they beat Syracuse as a 13 seed, 60 to 57 and overtime.
I think I can name at least one of their players.
On Vermont's team?
On Vermont.
I believe they had a guy whose name was like Taylor Copernath or something like that.
Yes.
Is that right?
Yeah, you played 45 minutes on the game and scored 16 points.
Okay.
Now, there's another guy whose name I'm not going to be able to remember, but he was
was good on the team too and when you say it, I'll remember it. Read me the starters.
Martin Climes. That's not him. Germain, Mopa. That's not him. T.J. Sorentine. T.J. Sorentine. He was
really good too. Taylor Copernap and T.J. Sorentine. And the coach was Brennan. I had to do an ESPN show
with him once. Actually, he hosted with me my first year that was supposed to be.
I was filling in.
Who, TJ?
No, the coach.
Oh, the coach.
Okay.
Yes.
He, he, I had to fill in.
I think it was for Marty and McGee.
No, it wasn't Marty.
It was a show.
Long story short, my co-host forgot to connect.
I'm serious.
And they pulled, the Brennan dude was walking down the hall and they pulled him in and made him co-hose.
Wow.
Well, there's your Vermont story.
They're named the court after him here on ESPN.
Tom Brennan.
That was his name.
All right.
Back to the Kentucky game.
Who's up next?
Some good useless knowledge you got in that brain.
Yes.
He was funny.
That dude was a funny guy.
I think he used to be a, he was a goofy, funny guy.
All right.
Vince.
Vince.
Go ahead, Vince.
Hey, what's up, Matt?
What's up, Billy?
Thanks for taking my call.
So listen, me and five of my friends got a group chat.
We made a pact.
We've got to face our demons.
And we went back and rewatched the Wisconsin,
in 2015 game, heartbreaking again.
But I've never watched it since the first time.
I haven't watched a single clip since that night,
but I think that's the key.
We all have to reverse the curse.
Oh, you think we all need to watch it?
I can't watch it.
We were, even though they were the only team in the tournament that could beat us,
we had them beat,
and they screwed up the shot clock thing,
and then we had a bad turnover,
and we were trying to kill the clock rather than just play.
and it's just too frustrating to me
because you win that game, you win the title,
and like, it's history.
I mean, it's brutal.
It's like, you know, you become a legendary squad,
so I can't, I might watch it if you convince me I have to,
but I don't want to.
If we win again, I'll watch it before every game.
I'll tell you what, if we beat Tennessee in the final game of the year,
I'll watch it before the SEC tournament.
Do it.
You already know the outcome.
It's not as bad.
Well, that actually makes it worse.
Because it's hard to be happy during the moments because you're like, I know, you know, we already lost.
Hey, we're thrilled about tonight.
I mean, if we can do this, we can beat anybody.
So let's get it.
I appreciate it.
I agree.
They're taking Doug Eddard out.
You're the worst Doug Eddard.
Who's next?
Ethan's next.
Ethan.
Go ahead, Ethan.
Yeah, I'm kind of like Xerxes, the previous caller.
I'm so in love with this team.
I love to watch them.
but it's kind of like being in love with a beautiful woman that's always unfaithful to you.
And I just don't trust her yet.
So how can I learn to trust this team, man?
Well, I don't, I mean, all right, so I'm going to use your analogy,
which I don't know is the best analogy, but since you gave it, I'm going to follow it.
All right, so you say this team is like a beautiful woman that is unfaithful to you.
Here's the thing.
If you spend all your time thinking about how it's going to end,
then you won't enjoy the time together.
So I think what you have to do is not worry so much about whether or not the relationship's going to last or is going to end,
but just enjoy the moments with her and then the ending's going to be what it is,
whether you worry about it or not.
So let's enjoy the games.
Because at this point, we know we're going to make the tournament.
We know we have a shot.
So the best we can do is just cheer.
How's that for it now?
Matt, you've really helped me.
I can't tell you how much you've helped me tonight.
Thank you.
All right, I appreciate the call.
I'm going to probably, if I can get my fingers to work again, Billy,
I'm going to write a post on the KSR website,
if I can get my fingers to work.
Before the SEC tournament, it's basically going to say,
look, whatever any of you think about Cal or whatever,
let's just for the next four weeks put all that to the side and try to witness.
You know what I mean?
I do think all these conversations about Cal and everything that's happened,
I don't think any of them are wrong or unfair.
But like at this point, it kind of is what it is, you know?
So let's see what, because I do still think this team has a chance.
I do.
I didn't think last year did.
I didn't really think the year before did.
Certainly didn't think the COVID team did.
But this one does.
And so, might as well try to make it happen.
Who's next?
Relationship advice with Matthew.
It could be a new segment.
I feel like for somebody that's my age and single,
I am good at giving relationship advice to other people.
Who's next?
Lenny Bluebeard.
Lenny Bluebeard.
You were at the bar.
See, I heard it was a good environment.
It was awesome, man.
It was awesome.
Everybody at the bar got exactly what they came for, man.
It's just I tell you, man
That
Just Jay Edwards
I think he may have turned the corner
Hopefully for the better for us
And for the worst for the competition, man
I just love what you just said there
With the Cal thing
You know, let's judge the movie
At the end of the movie
You know, not halfway
But go cats, man
I love what I'm seeing
Let's keep continuing it
Throughout the end of the season
and the S&E tournament, and as long as it can go, man,
and I'll continue to listen to the show, man.
But y'all missed a great one up at the bar, man.
All right, I appreciate it.
Thank you very much.
859-280-2287.
So I saw Billy a friend of mine from college's brother at the bar
when I went there to try to get the post-game show, and he was very nice.
Yeah.
And it was good to see him.
I haven't seen my friend from college or him in a long time.
And his friend just wrote me and said,
He thinks I left the bar because of him.
I just want you to know I didn't.
I didn't have my equipment.
So I just need to send that message out, you know?
Yeah.
I mean, the equipment would have worked if he would have stayed there a little bit longer.
Probably.
But then I didn't want to not be able to do this show.
You didn't see his face and run the other way.
Yes.
No, I talked to him.
I didn't.
I wasn't like, I'm getting out of here.
All right.
Who's next?
I did enjoy your pregame show with Vince Merrill.
put that on podcast. Yeah, we did. That was really good. And Vince is very high on this team.
I highly recommend if you didn't. Normally we don't put the podcast or pregame show on
podcast. This one we did and it's very, very good. A little bit of football, a lot of basketball,
and him just kind of being in, you know, Vince Merritt. Who's next? Nick. Nick, go ahead.
Hey, Matt. Billy, how are you all doing tonight? I'm sure you're happy.
What's that? We're doing great. Great, great. So are we, I just took a shot of patrol.
just for the victory
Kentucky had tonight, and boy, it tastes good.
I'm not a fair weather fan.
I'm just a fan that,
just like if you're a fan, you're going to get upset,
you're going to get mad, but you're still going to cheer for them.
They win, you're going to do the same thing.
You'll be happy for them, glad they won,
but you don't quit being a fan, just be one-sided.
That's for one thing.
Another thing is, oh, Edwards is reminding me,
me a lot of Gilchrist because Gilchrist struggles the first part of the season and he turned
it on at the right time.
Well, Gilchrist though, was always a, he was always like a lot down defender, even when he was
struggling offensively.
And that was my frustration for a while with Edwards is he wasn't doing that part.
But now he, I don't want, he's not a lot now, but he's still, he's become a good defender.
And so that, I think, helps a lot.
True. Another thing, the thing about this team is it's a love-hate relationship.
That's what it is.
And eventually, they're going to keep going if he keeps the right chemistry going.
And the chemistry for that team, he's got to have it to a team, to a T.
But they really like each other.
I mean, they do really, and I think that matters.
When teams don't like each other and struggle, they can fall apart.
This team really likes each other.
and I think that's helped them get through some of these struggles, too.
Well, that's true, and hopefully they keep liking each other.
Maybe we'll make it all the way to the national championship.
I hope you're right.
I appreciate the call.
Nobody would be happier to me.
I hope that happens.
Vermont teddy bear, Billy.
Is that something that Vermont's known for is the teddy bear?
Isn't that that that's a thing, right?
Like, isn't that, don't they have, didn't they have that in the mall?
In Vermont, they got a mall.
in Vermont?
Not in the Vermont mall.
Like, I think they had it.
Oh.
I'm not making this up.
I think there was a thing called a Vermont teddy bear.
Yes, I looked it up.
Vermont teddy bear.
Yes, they used to have them in the mall.
You'd go into the mall and you could get your, or no, that was build a bear.
Yeah, they still exist.
Yeah.
Okay, never mind.
But there is a Vermont teddy bear.
I don't think that you went to the mall for it.
I haven't been to a mall in a lot.
long time, though, to be fair. Who's next? Let's try Lucas. Lucas. Go ahead, Lucas.
Hi, Matt. My dad's really been getting on Justin Edwards for the start of the season, but today
he showed him. I went to the game with 28 points. So let me ask a question. So, Lucas,
your dad would get mad at Justin Edwards, and did you not like that? Very much still.
but I mean did you tell your dad stop getting on Justin Edwards
no I would ask him why he was yelling at Justin Edwards
oh you didn't feel like you could tell him to stop
no I understand well you can't you can't you can't talk back to your dad
but now I had 28 points and so now it's exciting is he your favorite player
uh no Antonio Reese is I'll see that you're just like you're like me Lucas I love the guy
he's awesome um well
So you enjoyed the game. Do you go a lot?
Yeah.
Okay. Well, good. And I enjoyed the game.
Well, good. Well, thank you, Lucas. I appreciate it. Tell your dad to calm down like what he needs to. Thank you. Appreciate the call. Let's do one more. And we'll take our final break. Who's next?
Bart.
Bart. How are you, Bart?
I'm outstanding. I've never known a finer hour. Matt, I have a comment for you on rushing the court.
And then I have a question for you about personnel.
And with the storming of the court, when I hear all these people whining about it,
and I happen to be in Winston-Salem when my daughter went to that game,
she might have been down there.
I don't know.
But what it makes me think of is those people need to spend just 30 seconds across from Memorial Coliseum
when they blow that air horn at 5 a.m. in the morning, and we all rush across to get our tents put up for the tent city.
Because I would rather run with the Bulls in Pamplona than with that.
I mean, that is rough.
Well, let me ask you a question.
So you clearly, it doesn't, you know, you, and I like that.
Don't get me wrong. I like court storming, too, but you want them to keep it.
But let's say that we lost to Mississippi State Tuesday night.
And they storm the court and Antonio Reeves gets hurt for the year.
Would you still feel the same way?
I would feel the way I feel now about Philpowski.
When you lose like that, you need to get your behind off the court.
Wow.
Get back in the locker room.
It's time to celebrate.
I feel like.
don't know if he had a chance to do that or not.
But all right, well, I appreciate the call.
Do you agree with that, Billy?
No.
What a hot take from Bart?
You got to get off the floor in three seconds.
Yeah, I don't know.
I mean, if you watch that again, they sure got out there quick.
So I don't know.
I don't know that I blame Philpowski.
It did look like when I first saw it that he pushed the guy, but I don't think that
happened.
There's another video now where it looks like he and the first dude not knees.
and then he fell, his arms went out probably to try to stop himself.
And a dude pushed him for behind.
But I don't think he got hurt from the guy pushing him.
I think he knocked knees with one of the dudes.
And I think that's just one of those things that happens.
Hopefully he's all right.
When I saw he knocked knees, I thought, well, maybe it's just like a bruise and he didn't, like, tear something.
Hope he didn't, because he's a really good player.
All right.
We will take a break.
859-280-2287.
Vermont, by the way, leads by six with five minutes to go.
For those of you scoring at home.
and we'll be right back.
This is the local toilet dealers, KSR Post-Games show.
Welcome back.
It is the local toilet dealers' KSR Post-Game Show.
I've had three different people send me pictures of their kids, Vermont, Teddy Bears.
So clearly those exist.
Apparently, Billy, they advertised, you know who their big advertiser was for many years?
Rush Limbaugh.
Oh, God.
On the radio.
I wouldn't have thought that the Rush late.
Limbaugh radio audience would also be in the teddy bears,
but maybe it was like grandparents buying it for their grandkids or something.
I think you're right.
I can see that because I bet that Rush Limbaugh audience was probably wealthy.
That and buy some gold.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, you know, that's Vermont teddy bear.
Vermont's up nine, three and a half minutes to go.
859-2802287.
You got, let's do, we'll do five more and we'll call.
call it a Saturday night. Who's next? All right. We've got
five on the line. Let's go to Alan.
Alan. Go ahead, Alan.
Alan. Hey, man. What's up?
Hey, how are you?
We're going to have to go faster than this. Go ahead.
Let's go to talk to Billy about this one.
Yeah, what you got, Alan?
Any day.
Alan? Are you all right?
I don't know what he hung up. Finally.
I don't think he counts. I'm not going to count those as one of the five.
So, if I'm not doing 2287, I don't know what Al was doing.
That's the classic call.
That's a good representative of a caller that calls for Billy.
Right there was Alan.
He's waiting for me.
I don't know.
Alex.
Alex.
Alex.
Hey, what's going on?
One quick thing and then one question.
I called in a couple months back with some, I'd say, pretty negative comments on Edwards.
Obviously loved his progression and I think he's dangerous.
Oh, I hung up on him.
I'm sorry.
Why did you hang up on?
I was working the phones.
Well, I can't count that one either then.
You've given me no calls so far.
I'm sorry.
We're falling apart.
All right, Billy, don't hang up on people.
That's not very nice.
Who's next?
It wasn't on purpose.
We'll go to Scott.
Scott.
Go ahead, Scott.
Can we go to Alex?
No, Alex, that's enough Alex.
Scott.
We'll go back to Alex.
Then Scott.
Hey, guys, are we on?
Yes, go for it until Billy hangs up on you.
Okay.
Don't hang up on me, Billy.
We'll go, Scott.
It's been a rough two minutes.
I'm not going to lie to you.
This has been a rough two minutes.
Come on, let's go, Scott.
I got you quick.
My biggest thing is when do we as a fan base really start to really care about these kids and this team as opposed to being negative on Cal?
Because I thought this team is so exciting to watch.
I don't think that's fair to the fan base.
That's not fair to the fan base.
That's not fair to the fan base.
This fan base has been positive about this team.
these players all year.
Part of the reason I think the frustration has been what it's been,
whether you know, people think,
whether you think it's been too much or too little is that everybody's own opinion,
and I'm not saying anybody's wrong.
But the reason people have cared so much is they love this team.
I agree.
I think this team, I don't think it's fair to say,
when are you going to start caring about the team?
That's not fair to the fans.
This fan base really has cared about this team.
between Rob and Reed and Reeves, I can't think of too many times.
There have been three players and Z that, like, as many a do, like, people love this team.
So I agree with you, the fan base needs to kind of come together and sort of put the bickering aside in March.
But it's also not fair to say they haven't loved this team because I think they have from moment one.
Yeah, I understand.
That's kind of what I was really, my angle I was going at is, let's, let's, let's,
cheer these guys on. They're so fun to watch and let's get after it and go win this thing.
I'm with you. I appreciate the call. 859-2-80-2287. What you got, Billy?
We can try Alex again. I won't hang up. All right, Alex. Go ahead, Alex.
Billy's lucky. I'm in a good mood. No, I was going to say I had one quick thing and then
one question I was talking about Edwards. I was looking at something pretty random the other day,
just past jersey numbers. It's looking at guys who wore number one after Darius, James
Young, Booker. It's been Scowl, Kalia Jones, Sistina, C.J. Frederick, and Edwards. So I'm hoping he
he's breaking the curse, though, right? Like, he's starting to play. And some of those guys,
well, I mean, if you almost look at it, it's almost like they've gotten a little better each one.
Right. And now, right. And now, now he's got a chance to, to, listen, man, he's played really well the last five games. It's gotten overshadowed.
a little bit because we've had a couple tough losses,
but he has played really since the Tennessee game,
I think played really well.
I agree.
And actually,
that leads into my question.
Obviously,
one of the lineups we love tonight was Reed Reeves,
Rob, Edwards,
I guess maybe you can factor in a do and then Big Z.
But what's the status of Mitchell?
And when Mitchell comes back,
I don't know.
I mean,
he's going to play again this year,
at least that's what we're hearing.
I still,
you will need him.
I mean,
not like and I appreciate the call you go back to these games like like LSU but really I go back
to Gonzaga he would have been huge against Gonzaga because we didn't have we could not we could
not guard them down low and I think he would have given us our best chance to guard now he is not
great at guarding on the perimeter but down low he's probably the toughest dude we have along with
do. So I do think he's going to matter. And I do expect him to play again before. I mean, I think
he'll probably play again before the SEC tournament. Who's next? Josh. Josh, go ahead, Josh.
What's up, Matt? Look, I called a couple weeks ago after the Gonzaga loss. I'm from Alabama. I told you.
And I was pretty down cow. But, you know, I'm happy. I can't be any happier. We'll beat Auburn.
We've just beat Alabama. I can't go. I can't wait to go into work Monday.
on my Kentucky gear and talk trash.
So you live down there, right?
Yeah, yeah, I lived down here, and I told you it's just, it's been awful lately.
But now that we're beating both of them, I can't wait.
I can't wait for Monday.
I wore all my Kentucky gear after the Auburn game the other day.
And I went to Walmart, and I had a bunch of guys been like, a bunch of Alabama fans coming to me,
like, man, yeah, y'all look good.
And I was like, yeah, I can't wait for tomorrow.
I'm going to walk into Walmart again.
We're on my house.
Yeah, to walk in Walmart and let them know.
All right, you go tell them.
You walk in Walmart and you let them know.
But that's very cool.
And listen, there's nothing better than living in a state that's a road state
and then getting a victory over the team.
So enjoy.
Yeah, appreciate it.
I can't wait.
Appreciate the call.
Two more, Billy, and then we'll all go home for the evening.
Donnie.
Donnie.
Donnie. How are you, Donnie?
Matt, I'm doing very well.
How are you?
Doing good.
great tell your mother i said hello i love her um there's something you said earlier in the show
you know we're talking about edwards and he's a left-hander he had a great night tonight
my top five left-handers of uk basketball all right so i'm gonna number one and two have to be
givens tachshun right well they're up there james lee was one of my favorites also
oh this is just your personal favorites okay gotcha well no i mean well given
He was a better player than James.
He played with James Lee.
So, yes.
Then I'm confused.
You got Terse Jones, maybe Eric Daniels.
But have we ever had a seven-footer that was left-handed?
I don't think we have.
I didn't want to Google it.
Let me ask you a question.
I just wanted to like your brain.
Let me ask you a question.
Can you ever remember a seven-footer anywhere that was left-handed?
Yes, David Robinson.
David Robinson.
Good call.
Yeah, he played on the
I can't think of a other one.
The day before the Super Bowl game.
That's right.
Yeah, yeah.
All those points.
That's right.
Yeah.
I appreciate the call.
Can you, I can't think of another one.
What percentage of the population is left-handed, Billy?
Oh, unofficially.
Well, take a guess before you, take a guess before you Google it.
I'm going to say eight.
What do you think?
Oh, like 15.
15.
All right, what is it? Look at Google it.
I'm sure it'll come up on the Google machine.
708 million people that are left-handed in the world.
Okay, that doesn't answer my question.
What percentage of people in the world?
2% of the world's population was left-handed in 1860.
4% in 1920.
We're growing here.
Are you going to have one from now?
I mean, you're giving me the stats in 1920.
Do you have 2020 or?
Oh, currently stands at 10 to 12 percent.
10 to 12 percent.
We got there.
So it used to be, now that's interesting.
So in the Civil War, it was two.
And now it's 10 to 12.
Why do you think that is?
Hmm.
I don't know.
Why would the amount of left-handed percentage people have be five times more now than then?
Did they have an evolutionary, like, step on us?
They have something going for them that's better than us, Billy?
I don't know.
It says genetics plays a major role.
Well, but I mean, the only reason you'd have more in genetics is like if they were,
if they were somehow like more, I don't know, attractive or fertile.
I don't know.
I'm just reading off of this random article.
Okay.
You just want to go home.
I understand.
He's like, Billy's like, shut up.
Darren.
Darren, we'll finish up with you.
What's up?
What's up, Matt Jones?
How you doing now?
What's going on, Darren?
Hey, wonderful night.
proud of my cats.
I'm glad to say they're, you know,
finally putting it together, I feel like at the right time,
showing Alabama we're still to basketball school.
And I got two things.
Go cats and go Donald Trump.
He won't South Carolina tonight.
All right.
We're not ending on that one, Billy.
I appreciate the call.
I'm not ending a Kentucky.
My man, it's Kentucky Alabama,
and you're talking about Donald Trump.
Stop.
You got to do another one, Bill.
Well, I've got two people on the line.
I cannot end on that.
One is from Jamestown.
The other is from a place unknown.
Which one would you like to go to?
I'll go with the unknown.
Okay, Alan.
Alan, go ahead, Alan.
Hey, I've got it back.
Oh, this is Alan.
No, why did not go from James Town?
Go ahead, Alan.
All right, this is with Billy.
Go ahead.
Billy.
All right.
Yeah, Alan.
33 and eight.
33 and eight.
All right, let's go to Bob in James Town.
Let's go to Bob and James Town.
I'll end with him.
Bob, go ahead.
Matt, what was the backstory of the guy from Alabama that got expelled from the game?
Did he did something?
He elbowed a guy in the face last game.
Well, they said he was like one of their top players.
He averaged four points a game, Bob.
I thought maybe he was like, you know, double digits.
Anyway, I was really worried about this game.
And then I don't know what happened.
Alabama, this collapsed.
I mean, they scored 95 points.
I mean, they didn't collapse.
We beat them.
We beat them down because we were better.
And I appreciate the call, Bob.
They didn't collapse.
They shot 56% from the field and scored 95.
We just scored 117 and shot 63%.
And that is an epic game that we all should be thrilled with.
That was Kentucky offensive basketball at its best.
And the thing to remember is, yeah, we gave up 95, but that's the best offensive team
in the country.
And they never had a chance and we're down 35.
We won by 22 and it wasn't that close in my opinion.
So it's a great win.
A lot of excitement.
Vermont won.
the cats have a victory
and Billy I hope you have a good rest of your weekend
Myron is off tomorrow
on my ESPN show
Oh you need a co-host
I don't think they've found one yet
Oh

I'm gonna wake up in the morning
And I don't know who it's gonna be
There's just gonna be some random person
sitting next to me
I will tell you if by like 930
We don't have one I'll have them call you okay
Just tell them to give me a ring
I don't make it happen
Sounds good
