Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories,
Starting point is 00:00:52 their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford Show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome, everyone.
Starting point is 00:01:45 It is the local Toyota Dealer's KSR postgame show. The Cats get a huge win in an exciting game in Rupp Arena, 11 to 102. The sixth time this year, Kentucky has scored 100 points in a game, the most ever in the John. Caliperi era. You can give us a shout. 859-2802287. I'm here at KS. Bar and Grill where we got a ton of people here enjoying the post-game action, including a sad Arkansas fan who turned it into happiness, though, because everybody's buying him a drink. They lost the game and they're like, hey, I'll buy you a drink.
Starting point is 00:02:21 He's going to end up Billy at the bar not even having to go out tonight. That's not bad. Kentucky fans to buy him celebratory drinks. But we are here to celebrate the big victory, and I will say, It was an important win. There was a moment where, you know, down nine, about eight minutes to go, you think, man, this is going to be a really, really bad loss. And then Kentucky does what they do. Go on a huge run quickly, get the victory and escape to now, I guess, Kentucky is what? Eight losses.
Starting point is 00:02:52 They're 21 and 8 with two games left. At this point, fourth in the SEC, if the tournament started tomorrow, they would have a double by after this victory. Like I said, 859-280-2287. Let's talk a little bit about what happened today. I thought Kentucky offensively really was great throughout the game. I mean, 111 points is a pretty impressive amount of points. You know, I don't really care what you do.
Starting point is 00:03:19 But the way they did it, seven different players in double figures. Just for historical context, it's only the sixth time in Kentucky history that seven players have scored double figures in a game. Six time in history and the last time was in 2004. I mean, you just don't see that very often where that many guys go off. And it was Antonio Reeves and six freshmen, six freshmen in double digits. And then at the end of the game, you know, as maybe the biggest Antonio Reeves fan in the country, with like six minutes to go, I thought to myself, why is Antonio Reeves not in the game? Well, Cal said he wanted to give him like a minute break before the final push, which I understand.
Starting point is 00:04:07 But then they went on a run without him. And they ended up closing the game with five freshmen and played amazing during that period of time. Rob Dillingham, for 33 minutes does not play well. And then he wins him the game in like a five-minute stretch. I mean, that's the thing about that kid. I've never seen a kid where like what happens in the first of the game. game does not necessarily mean what's going to happen at the end. You go 33 minutes without scoring, and then seven minutes, he just becomes, he takes over, taking it to the basket, you know,
Starting point is 00:04:45 helping his teammates, setting them up. It was awesome. Go on a run. And then Justin Edwards, with some big plays down the stretch to help him get the victory. It's an excellent win for Kentucky. Arkansas has not been good this year, but they played, they played, they played, played today like the team, I think they thought they were going to have all year. Defensively, Kentucky was bad throughout the game, but they did get a handful of possessions, I think five in a row where they held them from scoring, and really that's probably the difference in the game. They were able to get three minutes worth of stops and win. You know, this team is still going to have to win games outscoring people. They're just not that great defensively,
Starting point is 00:05:27 and thus, they got to put up points. But man, they can put up points in bunches. And when you have a day like today, when DJ Wagner hits four threes, Justin Edwards hit shots, and Z is finishing down low, and Aaron Bradshaw has one of the best halves he's had at Kentucky. And then Antonio Reeves with a silent 22 points. I barely remember him scoring, and he had 22 points. That kid is amazing like that. you know and then the Dillingham stretch it's just a team that is very very very hard to stop offensively
Starting point is 00:06:05 the only negatives like I said the defense was what it was Trey Mitchell didn't play particularly well but he's coming off an injury I don't you know that takes a little time but I'm very happy with the result we just needed to win same thing Wednesday night against Vandit just need to win and then I think they'll play Tennessee for a shot to be the two or three seed in the SEC tournament, maybe for the shot at a three seed in the NCAA tournament. A lot on the line next Saturday if they can get the win against Fandy on senior night. We are here at KS. Barr, come on out if you want and celebrate the victory. Two folks sitting here next to me.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Everybody was scared. You two were the only two that stepped up. There was a line of people, and I said if somebody wants to sit here, they can. And two different couples turned it down. Wow. Why would they be scared, guys? You don't know. I mean, you're wearing a nothing fancy hat,
Starting point is 00:07:01 and so, like, it's nothing fancy just to sit here with me, so I appreciate where are you all from? Monticello. See? I was just there a couple weeks ago in Monticello. Nice to see you, folks. Thank you for coming. What are your names?
Starting point is 00:07:14 I'm going to give you a shout out. Aaron, and what's your name? Carissa. Aaron and Carissa from Monticello. Nice to see you. Now, Billy, did you see the picture I tweeted out during the game? of the guy on his truck. Yes.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Yeah, I did see that. I do want to tell this story before we get off and take the calls. So for people who don't know, I have an apartment in Lexington. I'm mostly living in Louisville, but I have a place in Lexington. And it's right, it's real close to Rupp Arena. And I'm watching the game, and you know, Billy, I start to get nervous, right? Like, I get nervous when things aren't going well. And they cut, they take an eight or nine point lead.
Starting point is 00:07:51 I start pacing around. Then Dillingham goes on his run, and I think we're up three. I think it's like 95, 92, or something like that. And I decide to step out on my little patio and look out and I see a guy. And I loved it. He was standing in the bed of his truck. He had his phone. If you look at my Twitter account at KY Sports Radio,
Starting point is 00:08:16 he has his phone on top of his truck and he's listening to Tom and Jack and his head is on the truck with nerves. and he has clearly left the game because to be where his truck was, you would only be there if you're parking for the game. He is standing there. He has clearly left the game because he's too nervous, listening to the game on the radio. And I just want to say to that guy,
Starting point is 00:08:41 Billy, I didn't want to embarrass him by, like, listening. So I made sure I didn't take the picture until you couldn't see his face, right? Right. But I do want to say to that guy, I've been there. That's me. I did it at the 2014 Final Four, and I feel like that picture, Billy, is Kentucky fans in a nutshell. We've all been that guy at some point. That's relatable content.
Starting point is 00:09:03 And you know what? This team has just been so up and down, how can you blame them? You know what I mean? Yeah, that's part of it. But part of it is sometimes it's just so nerve-wracking, you can't take it anymore. And he clearly left the arena and listened to it in the back of his truck. and I thought that was awesome. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:09:28 We're going to take a break. We will take your calls, Kentucky, with a big win. On a Saturday night, you get the rest of the night to watch, and then the big game this evening, Tennessee and Alabama. We'll get you ready for it and be right back. This is the local toy dealers, KSR post-game show. Welcome back. It is the local toy dealers KSR post-game show.
Starting point is 00:09:49 North Carolina in a battle at home against North Carolina State. 15 minutes to go. it's 51 51. Billy, at halftime, Carolina was tie, or was down eight, and it was even money, Carolina money line, and I may have put, I may have put
Starting point is 00:10:07 your Christmas bonus on it. So if I were you, I would root for North Carolina, because I thought you can get even money to win the second half at home, but if we lose, I just want you to, I want you to know you need to follow the end of this game. Okay, well, if they win, I'm going to be expecting a little more this
Starting point is 00:10:24 No, no, it would have just been your normal. Oh, okay. Normal. Well, you know, Kansas lost again today, too. If you lose, if they don't win, there won't be a Christmas book. Well, Kansas lost again today, too. So that's another big team. They have seven conference losses.
Starting point is 00:10:39 I think I saw the most they've had in like a decade or something, 10 or 12 years. They have the most conference losses. But again, that was on the road at Baylor. The game they lost that really surprised me was at home to BYU. You know, Bill Self's teams usually play a lot better coming to, down to stretching in March and they've kind of, they're not very, they only got six guys. And I think that's ultimately what's going to be hard for them. They only have six guys and it's not, it's not going well for him.
Starting point is 00:11:05 All right, let's get started. 859-28027. Who's up first? Shannon. Shannon. Shannon. Oh, yeah. Hey, Matt.
Starting point is 00:11:13 What's up? Man, I was a doubter on Edwards, but man, he is like changed my mind here lately. He played well. I can't believe he took that three, though. It went in, okay? It went in. But there were like 20 seconds left on the shot clock with a minute and 30 seconds to go, up five. I couldn't believe he took that shot.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Now, it went in, so I'll take it. But that was a big shot. It's a good thing he made it. I get another thing. Yes, go ahead. Scenario, what if you had, like, Dillingham with the Marshall Henderson Greenlight? I think if you gave Dillingham, that kind of green light, he would lead the SEC in scoring.
Starting point is 00:12:00 He would be first team all-American, but your team probably wouldn't be very good. Does that make sense? No. Like if you let him do that for 35 minutes a game, I don't know how good you're going to be. Now, in the scenarios that we do it, I think we, I think Cal uses Dillingham almost perfectly. I really do. He does. He gives him his stretches. When he starts rolling, he lets him go.
Starting point is 00:12:33 When he's struggling, he takes him out. I think Cal, you know, we can be, I'm critical of how Cal's uses some guys. I think he's been perfect with dealing him this year in the way he's used him. Sometimes I wish he'd play him a little more, but then sometimes I wish he'd play him a little less. So I think all in all, he's used him correctly. Yeah. That's all got, man. All right.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Appreciate the call. 859, 280, 2287. I think Dillingham is the most fun UK player since who, Billy. Like the most fun, just fun players since who? Oscar was pretty fun. No, I love Oscar. He's not fun. Oh, as a fan favorite he was.
Starting point is 00:13:16 You like rebounding and boxing out? 20 plus at Rupp Arena. I think that was fun. No, no, I mean, he was, maybe you and I have a different definition of fun. I mean fun is like exciting. Like Tyler Ulyss was fun. John Wall was fun. Fox.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Fox is very, Fox is probably the guy that's the most recent dude like that. That's just pure fun. Dillingham, though, is up there. I mean, you never know what's going to happen with that kid. And it, you know, it makes it exciting. It would be fun to watch him on a team where he was just allowed to do whatever. but I don't know that I would want that to be my team, but it would be fun to watch.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Who's next? Vance. Vance. Go ahead, Vance. Yeah. So I live in Colorado Springs, and I'm a... I'm getting booed around town,
Starting point is 00:14:10 everyone booed in the corner. They went crazy when Arkansas took that big lead against us, and I clapped back at them whenever we came back. It was just so satisfying. But you talk about, Dillingham. Dillingham, I think, is an Iverson with no defense. You want to talk about fun.
Starting point is 00:14:31 That kid's going to be fun to watch whenever he's able to do. He's going to be a great pro. He's going to be a great pro. He's going to drive his coach crazy a lot of the time, but he's going to be a great pro and he's going to be wild. And at any given moment, you're not going to know what he's going to do. He reminds me of Iverson his first couple years because Iverson at first was a good defender. He became a good defender. That's kind of what Dillingham is right now.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Right. And if you remember in the game tonight, Dillingham got an elbow to the chest, from playing to the ref, and then went down the course behind the back to the rim of the court. He's amazing. Yeah, I appreciate the call. Is that his phone or is that me, Bill? That's his phone. Okay, I just wanted to make sure because he kind of was going in and out. A 5-9-2-80-22-8. Who's up next? David. David. Go ahead, David.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Hey guys, how are you all doing? Can you hear me? Yes, go ahead. I want to preface this first. I'm a Reed Shepherd fan, first of all, first and foremost. I just want to talk about this team, first of all. I think this team can come alive in the tournament. I know we've not played great defense and whatever, but I think we've played good enough offense.
Starting point is 00:15:52 I think we can put this, we can put it to it. together, we can make a run because I have seen greatness on defense at times. No, you haven't. I know we've not. No, you haven't. When have you seen greatness on defense? What game? At Auburn.
Starting point is 00:16:09 At Auburn, we have. They did play what they played, I think, good defense at Auburn. I also think Auburn shot an unbelievably poor percentage. Like if you go back and look at how many open. But listen, man, I love you. I love this team. I love this team more than anything, but the words great defense with this team is just not something after we give up a hundred and two points, you can say. I think this might be the best offensive team.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Maybe Kentucky's ever had along with the 96 team. But defensively, it's not in the realm of great. I don't think we have a great defensive team. I'm not saying that. But I do think we have a smart enough team, an athletic enough team. I think we have a team enough with a great enough coach. And I seriously, man, I mean, I do, I do think that we have a great coach. I really do.
Starting point is 00:17:07 Nobody's disagree with that. But I do think that we can put it together for a six-game run that we can, on a game-by-game basis, with the talent that we have, that I think we can put a game-by-game, team-by-team. I believe that we can put it together. Okay, I got you. You believe we can put it together. I appreciate the call. I do too.
Starting point is 00:17:31 We can. There's no doubt this team could win six in a row and win a title. Yes, we would have won six in a row in the last six games, if not for that. To the LSU game, right? So, yes, we certainly can do that. It's not going to be because of defense. if we do it.
Starting point is 00:17:54 It's going to be because we're the best scoring team that I remember. The Auburn game is the best defensive game we've played this year. But I think besides that one, I'm not sure we've really played a good defensive game all year. But what we can do is what we did against Mississippi State, where we took a four or five minute run and played well enough that it allowed us to get a lead. That I think we can do
Starting point is 00:18:23 Against maybe not all teams But most teams Who's next? Matt, the final score of the first Arkansas Kentucky game was 63 to 57 And then this one a 111 to 102 I mean they had that half time If I remember correctly
Starting point is 00:18:35 Did we only score 63 at Arkansas? Yeah I remember Arkansas Shooting very poorly But I don't remember why we scored So few points Yeah I think Antonio
Starting point is 00:18:49 Played well down there right Was it Antonio and Reed down the stretch that played well? We were saying he's the hog killer. Yeah, I think it was Antonio and Reed down the stretch there that got us that win. Who's next? Matt. Matt, what's up, Matt? Hey, Matt.
Starting point is 00:19:04 A couple things here. So I kind of understand what that last caller was saying. We're never going to be great defensively. But I think this team in Spurt can play good defense. I also know Cal is a defensive mind. coach and I don't I'm going to be a little careful
Starting point is 00:19:26 here but the tweak we're going to tweak our defense before the tournament come on man there's a week left in this season there's a week left in the season what
Starting point is 00:19:38 look Cal acknowledged on the post game show Cal said we're going to have to win most of our games by outscoring people he was like get rebounds Get 50-50 balls and outscore people. And he's right.
Starting point is 00:19:55 I mean, we get beat off the dribble every play. Every single play. And that's not going to change. I have a defensive coach to, even if we don't make a huge drastic change, just a slight improvement would pay dividends to this team. And speaking of the post-game show, I wanted to ask you about Kyle's comments on that post-game show.
Starting point is 00:20:21 because he made a football reference. I don't know if you heard it. I did not. And I immediately heard it, and I thought it was a shot at Stoops when he said, you can't win playing prevent defense. Because if you're playing pre-vent defense,
Starting point is 00:20:37 you're playing not to lose. Yeah, that's not a shot. That's not a shot at Stoops. I mean, Cal wouldn't. I know, but Stoops is notorious for the prevent defense. He is. He is, but that's not a shot at Stoops. I mean, I think,
Starting point is 00:20:50 and I appreciate the call. I don't think those dudes particularly like each other, to be honest with you. But after that win, Cal's not going to take a shot at Stoops. He's not going to do that. Yeah. I mean, don't get me wrong. They're not friends, but that's okay. They don't have to be friends.
Starting point is 00:21:10 I mean, if they win, listen, it's all about March. We've talked about this for two months through the bad times in January and early February. February to the last three weeks of good times. This is all going to be about March. And this team, I think, is set up where they can do really well. What I'm excited about is if they keep winning, I think a three seed is possible. And this team with a three seed, I think, is a lot more dangerous than as a four or five. Because I think the three best teams, maybe even the four best teams, are a lot better than the others.
Starting point is 00:21:47 I actually think there's probably six teams that I'm trying to figure out which of these six can win a title. Connecticut, Houston, I don't think Purdue will win, but they keep winning games. North Carolina, Tennessee's not going to win a title, but I think they're really good. And then us, I think those are the six. And I'm going to narrow those six down to five. kind of based on how Kentucky does in Knoxville next week and down at the SEC tournament because what I'd like to do is take Tennessee out and put us in
Starting point is 00:22:26 and if we beat them down there I'll do that who's next Nathan Nathan go ahead Nathan hey Matt hey what's up doing good first time caller long time with me who are let's go yeah man
Starting point is 00:22:44 I called the 90s one time trying to get on here. Pretty much, I just heard you talking about Monticello. I want to say shout out Monticello, poolhole. Shout out to Monicello. You got a call here from Monticello, my man. See, you're sparing the Monticello people. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:23:00 Yeah, outside of that, yeah, I think all the cow hates got to stop. I think we got to stop. There's no, what do you mean? There's no Cal hate today. What are you talking about? Not from you, but, There's no Cal. Listen, the fan base all wants the same thing.
Starting point is 00:23:21 The fan base all wants us to win. We just had a great win. This is not the time to debate pro or con cow. I was thinking to myself, if we lost to Arkansas, I still don't think that's the time to do it either. March is here. We're a week away. Let's all rally and root on the team. And then we'll debate how the season went after it's over. 100% I agree with you. Yeah, I don't know. Pretty much, I just wanted to shout out Monticello and say go catch.
Starting point is 00:23:59 So, yeah, a big win today. Feeling good. Let's go. Appreciate the call. The cow situation is not going to be determined this week. And, you know, I had a person who is one of cows. biggest supporters sitting at a table next to somebody who's one of Cal's biggest detractors, and they were yelling at each other. And one of them said, so what's it going to take?
Starting point is 00:24:28 And to the guy who's more of a detractor, and he said, if he makes the final four, I'm good. And the guy who was a supporter goes, well, if we lose in the first weekend again, I'm done. And I think that's what it's going to come down to. Let's just see what happens in March. But I feel a lot better about March today than I did three or four weeks ago. Who's next? Tom. Tom, what's up, Tom? Hey, Matt, just got a comment to make.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Yes, we are a great offensive team, but we can't stop nobody man to man, so why can we not play a zone like Syracuse? That's my comment, and I'll listen to you. Well, I mean, you've got to remember back when Beheim was there and they played really good zone, that was all they did. and they taught it from the moment they got there and they became masters of it.
Starting point is 00:25:20 It was like their signature thing. And so, like, it was, they became the zone team. I don't think we're going to be able to do that in a week. But can we do it six to eight plays a game? I think so. He did it, I think, two possessions this game. I think he did it two possessions the last game. Billy, maybe next week they do it three or four.
Starting point is 00:25:43 possession. But I do like when he throws that look in. Well, Arkansas was hitting everything from the floor and then he went to three and it got to stop. So it worked this time. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, they were shooting lights out. How about them from the free throw line? They were 27 of 28. There were 70 free throws in this game. Yeah. But it was physical. I didn't feel like like I didn't feel like the refs were calling too many. Did you? No. No. No, but you're right about physical. I mean, Bradshaw took an elbow to the face, too. Yeah, it was very physical.
Starting point is 00:26:19 I mean, Arkansas play with more effort tonight than they've played all year. They were 27 of 28 from the free throw. We shot 81% from the line, which is pretty good, and they shot 96.4. Pretty amazing. You combine the two teams free throws. They were 61 of 70. 61 of 70. That's great.
Starting point is 00:26:43 Between the two. That's pretty amazing. Let's do one more and we'll take a break. Who's next? Camden. Camden. How are you Camden? Hey, Matt.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Your boy's back. Hey, Camden. Hadn heard from you in a while. How you doing? I know. I had to make my return. I want to say this. I agree with you.
Starting point is 00:27:01 Another player that's actually fun is the most month. He was very fun to watch. It's actually when we almost hit that 50 with Carolina. He's another fun player to watch. That's almost a day. All right, well, my question is, how are you feeling about these next two games? We have Vanderbilt and Tennessee. So I feel, I mean, I feel very good about Vanderbilt.
Starting point is 00:27:23 Appreciate the call. I think it's going to be a route. Tennessee, I don't know, man. We've played really, really well in Knoxville the last few years, like really well. So I think we got a shot to play really well again. but I can't pick us to win but I'm not going to pick Kentucky but I do think we have a good chance
Starting point is 00:27:51 so I'll say I'll probably pick Tennessee today but by next Saturday Camden I'll probably switch in big Kentucky he's gone Tennessee will probably be playing for the SEC title that day because I think they'll beat Alabama tonight and if they are they will be
Starting point is 00:28:10 playing for the SEC against us on Saturday. 859-280-2287. We are going to take a break. Come back, take your calls. We are here at KS Bar and Grill. Come on out if you would like to have dinner, hang out this evening.
Starting point is 00:28:26 It should be all the games will be on, including Tennessee, Alabama, and a lot of others. Right now, Severe Wheeler and Keon Brooks are playing on a television I'm looking at. We'll take a break and be right back. It's a local Toyota dealers, KSR, Post-GAM show. Welcome back. It is the
Starting point is 00:28:44 local trade dealers ksr postgame show here at k s bar and grimm. I like this one. I was saying what the Dillianam is the most exciting player since when. Somebody suggests Malik Munk. I think that's a good one. Malik Munk used to, he and Fox both were so exciting, but Munk could really get you off your feet.
Starting point is 00:29:03 I don't know that very many performances have had me more excited than Munks did in Las Vegas against Carolina. I think that's what Camden said. Oh, I'm sorry. I couldn't hear him. Was he talking to me on a speaker? I could barely hear him. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:18 I told him to take it off speaker, but maybe he didn't. Okay. Well, if he said that, then Camden and I are on the... But Camden had to be like four when he was there, right? Isn't Camden like 11 years old or 12? He knows more about UK than I do, honestly, so... Well, now that's true. How would he remember League Month?
Starting point is 00:29:39 I couldn't... To be fair, Camden, I'm sorry. I could barely hear what you were saying here at... the bar but uh again if you call if folks call try to try not to be on speaker or air pods or i won't be able to hear you who's next lester lester go ahead lester lester hey there man's lester i'm in wolf county if you're familiar i am familiar with wolf county nice to talk to you sir well i appreciate you having me on a team me and uh my cousin we watch the game then are at the wicked wolf and uh i got a question
Starting point is 00:30:19 in regards to Trey Mitchell, I believe Trey Mitchell coming back today a little rusty obviously, but I think in my opinion the boy might have him a draft king's account. He's betting on the razorbacks because I'm going to tell you right now, I never seen
Starting point is 00:30:36 anybody with a more lackluster effort. Yeah, I don't think that's fair at all. I mean, he's been hurt for three or four weeks. Has it played? I think only started practicing a few days ago and he had a bad game but I'll take you back to earlier I'll take you back to earlier in the
Starting point is 00:30:57 year when there's probably two or three games we won that if it wasn't for tray Mitchell we would have lost and there are some games when he was out specifically Gonzaga where I think if we had him we might have won so I'm I'm not going to go with you he had a bad game that happens But to say a kid doesn't have effort because he plays bad. There's a difference between playing bad and not trying. He played bad. But that doesn't mean he didn't try. Well, I tell you, Matt, I got to agree with him.
Starting point is 00:31:30 One thing, he played bad. I appreciate the call. I mean, I, yeah, who's up next? I don't, did we not win and score 111 points? Yeah. It seems weird to me, some of these calls so far. But go ahead. Justin.
Starting point is 00:31:49 Justin. Go ahead, Justin. Hey, Matt. I've been wanting to call in for a while and discuss the comparison to Rob Dillingham. I'm surprised nobody's brought it up yet, but I think Tyrese is a good one. Yeah, and Maxie's great, but I think Dillingham's more explosive. Now, Maxie's bigger, and Maxie was a pretty decent defender, and Dillingham is a, bad defender, but I still, offensively, I think he's maybe even more explosive.
Starting point is 00:32:20 I am amazed at what he's able to do offensively and the way he's able to score. And he's like, gee, this may be the best team I remember in many years at throwing it off the backboard in crazy angles and making it. Between Reeves, Dillingham, and Shepard, it feels like they take more sort of Tim Duncan-esque ball takes a weird, like it'll hit the right corner and it goes in on. bank shots and Dillingham's as good as anybody at it. I think he's a lot more shifty. He's a lot more shifty than Maxie was.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Yes, he is. Definitely shifty, yeah. That's all. Thank you. Appreciate the call. Yeah, I can't believe what Dillianham did in that little three or four minutes stretch. I mean, he's now had the LSU game. Now, we lost that game, but people forget he played bad in that game for 34 minutes and then
Starting point is 00:33:14 was unbelievable in the last. minutes. Tonight he plays bad for 33 minutes and then is unbelievable in the last seven minutes. You just never, like, you talk about a kid that never gives up. That is definitely an example of that with Rob Dillingham. Who's next? Bones. Bones. How are you Bones? I'm good, man. How are you guys doing? Doing great. Good. So I called in like I think it was a month ago and I was the one that said once we got Justin Edwards going, we would be undefeatable. and man, was all right. Like, this kid just steps up every single day,
Starting point is 00:33:48 and the more he puts in, the better we get. And then the other thing I've got is to the BBN. Like, I know we're all heartfelt. I know our hearts are involved in all of it. But come on, man, give these kids a break, dude. You can't tell me that these kids ever lay down or they never stop trying. They put their heart and soul into everything,
Starting point is 00:34:07 and they're always on each other's side. This is probably the most cohesive team with love in passion and effort since the John Law and Cousins there. I agree with you. I don't know that I have ever at any point thought anyone on this team didn't try. Of all the issues, I certainly never thought
Starting point is 00:34:29 that that was one ever at any point. So I agree with you. I just saw something really weird happen. What's that? My guy from Monticell. Did you see that? So the people, that guy, as he was walking out, He was not sitting at that table right there.
Starting point is 00:34:45 As he walked out, he took that empty glass that was at the table of water, and he took a drink out of it as he was walking up the door. And it wasn't his table. Quenching his thirst a little bit? No, Billy, I just saw this. He literally walked out. There were different people at that table, and he and his family were walking out,
Starting point is 00:35:05 and he just grabbed a glass, Billy, and drank from another person's glass. Did he put it back, or did he take it with him? He put it back on the table. I just think it was like he needed, he thought he needed something to drink, and he was like, well, this one looks okay. Well, sometimes you're dehydrated. I've had friends see food on plates as they were walking out and eat it. I've seen that before.
Starting point is 00:35:29 I've never seen somebody take a drink of another person's glass on their way out the door. Who's next? Is it over the line for you? Well, he's a paying customer. I think as long as he's not hurting anybody. Who's next? Let's try Molly and Lily. Molly and Lily.
Starting point is 00:35:44 How are you? Good. What's going on? We're at the Country Club in Louisville, and we just got back on the game, and we feel like DJ Wagner played the best. Yeah. He played really well.
Starting point is 00:36:02 He had four threes. Yeah, and it was my first time at Ruff Arena. Oh. And you guys are already back in Louisville? Yeah. Boy, your parents drove fast if you were at Rupp Arena and got all the way back to Louisville. Well, good. Well, I'm good.
Starting point is 00:36:20 So it was your first time in Rupp. Did you have fun? Yeah. What was your favorite part? What was your favorite part? We got on the Jumbotron. Oh, you got on the Jumbotron for which part? It was at, I can't really remember what part it was up.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Okay, that's all right. Well, good. Well, I'm glad you had fun, and they won, and so now. Now you can enjoy the rest of your night and get ready for, you're ready for the tournament? Yes. Yeah. We're good. Well, have fun there in Louisville.
Starting point is 00:36:51 Appreciate it. Molly and Lily. See, I don't understand why you don't like children. People, I like, look, wasn't that sweet? Yeah, we figured out they had their first game at Rupp Arena. And they were better operating their phone than adults are often. Now, did you listen to their call this time, or did you, did it? just go one ear out the other what do you mean like camden it was i couldn't hear camden could you
Starting point is 00:37:19 hear them i could hear okay good yeah they says i couldn't hear him i don't know what you want for me just don't steal their opinion i got i wasn't going to interrupt him and i wasn't going to get on him for being on speakerphone i just couldn't hear him so i was going to let him talk and then we would be finish all right severe wheeler trying to bring washington on a comeback who's next McGuffie. McGuffie. How are you, McGuffie?
Starting point is 00:37:44 Good, Matt. How are you? I'm doing well. All right. So, you know, you already kind of talked about what I really wanted to talk about.
Starting point is 00:37:53 And, man, Rob, like, when it gets past that seven-minute threshold in the game, I mean, he is just a whole different player.
Starting point is 00:38:00 I don't know what it is, man. The thing I love about him, you talk about, he never gives up. If he's not playing well, doesn't matter. He's going to,
Starting point is 00:38:08 he's going to keep bringing it. And I, I love a dude who's not scared. He's not scared. He and Reeves and Shepard are not scared. And I think that also makes them more deadly. I mean, and I love how, I mean, I love Reed and Reeves. People talk about how clutch they are, and they are very clutch,
Starting point is 00:38:29 like Reed on the free throw line. I mean, he's stone cold. But Rob, I mean, it has been games, games and games, where he has just been hitting big shots at the end of the stretch. He has. Yep. I appreciate the call. They're clutch.
Starting point is 00:38:43 What can you say? We've had years where it's felt like we didn't necessarily have anybody down the stretch who was clutch. This year, you got these guys, you got multiple options. I mean, I love the fact that with 30 seconds to go, you got three or four guys, I'm okay having the ball in their hand. There have been years like last year when I'm not sure, two. years ago i'm not sure there was one guy you felt really comfortable about now you've got multiple guys let's do one more and we'll take a break one question do you think rob starts a game this year no and i'm okay with that i would start shepherd i wish we started shepherd but i'm okay with
Starting point is 00:39:28 rob not starting because i think he just brings energy when he comes in i think you look up six man in the dictionary there's a picture of rob dillingham in there who's next price price what's up eyes. How's it going, Matt? Thanks for taking my call. I'm calling from Hazard, Kentucky. Hazard in the house. How are we doing?
Starting point is 00:39:49 I'm doing good. I watched the game at KS. Bar and my nephew and my brother, and we had a fantastic time. I just want to say that I'm Is everybody cheering during the game here? Getting excited? It was getting very excited,
Starting point is 00:40:04 yes. Yeah, and I just want to say that Cal said they were all, we're built for March, And I think that it's true, and I'm behind this team. This is one of the funnest teams. I'm around your age, and this is funnest teams that I've ever watched. Yeah, I mean, you know, when you think about like one thing. Okay, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:40:26 I want to give a shout out to my brother-in-law, Corbett Caudle. All right, there you go. Appreciate the call. I would not, for me, it's among the three or four funnest teams. I think 96 was a lot of fun. 92 is a lot of fun. 2010 was a lot of fun. And this one's a lot.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Fox Monk, Bam, was a lot of fun. And I think this one is a lot of fun. But I think this team, we'll see how they finish. But this is one of the best offensive. This might be the best offensive team we've ever had. The only one that, to me, comes close is 96. Let's take a break. 859-2-80-2287.
Starting point is 00:41:11 Keon Brooks, just cut this game to three. How about this comeback, Billy, for Washington, on the shoulders of Severe Wheeler and Keon Brooks? It doesn't matter. My Christmas bonus is riding on North Carolina right now. North Carolina is up 10 with four and a half minutes to go. So your Christmas bonus, I'm not going to say it's safe, but it's looking better. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:29 We'll take a break. Be right back. This is the local toy dealers, KSR Postgame Show. Welcome back. It is the local toy dealers KSR Postgame Show. I didn't realize two of my favorites are on S&L together tonight, Billy. You know, I like Sidney, but then Casey Musgraves, who's the singer I really like, is the singer. Did you know that?
Starting point is 00:41:58 Yeah, I like Casey, country singer, and I like Sidney. So, this might be two weeks in a row. I watched it. I watched Shane Gillis last week. Did you like her in Madam Webb? Is that why you like that so much? I haven't seen that. I am going to watch that, though, because it is.
Starting point is 00:42:14 It now has 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's impressively bad, honestly. Yeah, I mean, there are people who think that, like, it's going to be a cult classic bag, and I feel like I need to see that. And it would be nice to be able to say that had only been to two Marvel movies, Ant Man and Madam Webb,
Starting point is 00:42:33 are the only two that I'd gone to. Yeah, that's not cool. We need to educate you on all that. Yeah, I'm not going to watch any of it. I prefer things that actually are in the real world. Like betting on Little Rock? basketball. A little.
Starting point is 00:42:46 It's much more fun. Okay. The reason I like betting on games is not the money. It's a skill thing. Like, I'm not, this is one of the things I try to tell you to. I'm not a gambler. Like, I wouldn't go to a slot machine or, like, roll dice or things like that. I don't care about any of that.
Starting point is 00:43:05 There's a skill to poker and sports gambling, which is why I like them. It's more competitive than it is luck, you know? Yeah, I can see you want. That's why I like it. It's like a game. Like, I would do it even if the money wasn't real just because I enjoy, like, the contest. But I won't see you at the blackjack table or crap. Sometimes we'll do blackjack, but just to pass the time.
Starting point is 00:43:28 But like all the other stuff in a casino, I don't really enjoy because it's just luck, and I don't enjoy that. Like, who wants to do that? Blackjack sometimes I'll do because it's fun to sit with your friends and do that. Who's next? Tyler. Tyler, go ahead, Tyler. Yes, first time caller, long time listening. Who are?
Starting point is 00:43:52 That's why I don't play the lottery, Billy. What a waste of time, you know. But go ahead. I was going to say, awesome atmosphere today at Rupp. This was the, I would say, fourth game, fourth home game in a row, starting with, you know, we had Tennessee, Gonzaga, Alabama. And today where just the crowd was, I mean, almost. standing up for several minutes of the game, including the last four or five minutes.
Starting point is 00:44:22 I remember when I saw the schedule come out, and I saw that we had Saturday home games in February and March that were Tennessee, Gonzaga, Alabama, and Arkansas, and I thought, man, you couldn't ask for a better schedule of Saturday games than that. And while we lost a couple of those, the crowds have met the moment in all of them. Yes, yes, definitely awesome. I mean, the last four minutes, you know, all of us around were all wanting Reeves back in. But I do got to give it to Cal. I mean, he did stick with, you know, he was really scoring and on that run.
Starting point is 00:44:56 Well, it worked. I mean, I was at home thinking why isn't Reeves in the game? But it worked. And again, I mean, Cal said that he just did it to get a rest and was going to put him back in. And then they went on a run. And he's right. So I understand why he did it. I mean, you know, if it works, if it works, it's a good decision, right?
Starting point is 00:45:19 Yeah, I definitely agree. And like you've always been saying, enjoy the ride. I mean, I keep telling all my friends and family that because, I mean, this team is, I mean, the most fun watching team. Seriously, that I've watched for a long, long time. And I just hope we can just keep enjoying this ride all the way to number nine this year. Yeah, totally agree with you. Appreciate the call. Let's do five more, Billy.
Starting point is 00:45:46 Who's next? Badger. Badger. Go ahead, Badger. Hey, guys. Thanks to taking my call. First out, this was an awesome game to close it out, down, you know, like seven with eight minutes to go, one timeout. They closed it out the way you want to.
Starting point is 00:46:04 This team is peaking. Shout out me for flipping my hat around backwards. Did they say I won the game? Okay. I mean, it helped. Okay, good. You know, you take showers sometimes. I mean, you know.
Starting point is 00:46:15 Listen, if that's what turning around, you need to be thanked. And I want to send a Hershey bar to Lester. I don't know what that guy's deal is. Trey Mitchell, you know, he's awesome. Thanks. There's going to be a game in the NCAA tournament where I think we're going to need Trey Mitchell. I appreciate the call because the game slows down
Starting point is 00:46:35 and there's going to be a big we play like Gonzaga had or like South Carolina. had where we're going to need him to play defense. And, you know, he's not, even before he got hurt, he hadn't really shot the ball well since the start of SEC play, but he shot really well in the non-conference, and that's still in him. And I think there's going to be a game where he really, really matters. Four more.
Starting point is 00:47:03 Who's next? Tim. Tim, go ahead, Tim. Hey, Matt. First time long time. Come in. Who are? Hey, a couple things.
Starting point is 00:47:13 Don't know if you remember my daughter. She worked at Skyline on Barchstone Road. You called her Red. Yes, of course, I remember. Give you shout out to her. She loves you. Does she still work there? Does she still work there?
Starting point is 00:47:25 She works at Roosters now. Oh, well. It's like she follows the places I eat at in Louisville. But go ahead. Right, right. Also, love Justin Edwards' three-pointer with a minute to go. I love that they didn't slow it down. and they kept their foot on the pedal, and I think that's what won the game,
Starting point is 00:47:44 and I love that they did that. Yeah, how about Justin Edwards, two big steals down the stretch, and then, of course, hit that three, so great stuff for them. It was great. I loved it, and I think this team is going to do very well. I'm real excited about it. Completely agree. Tell your daughter I said hello.
Starting point is 00:48:01 Appreciate the call. 859-8-0-2287-3, boy. Jordan. Jordan, go ahead, Jordan. You're looking good here for North Carolina. Hey Matt Jordan from New Jersey I just wanted to shout out
Starting point is 00:48:15 to DJ Wagner and Aaron Bradshaw They played really well tonight Oh you live in Morris Town New Jersey I'm from Central New Jersey So I've seen them play in Camden Gotcha I just really wanted to shout out to them
Starting point is 00:48:32 They did really well And yeah this team We can't really guard a stop sign But they play They play well when they do too. They really do play defense. And this team, they have tremendous confidence, which
Starting point is 00:48:45 I love. Well, yes, they do, and I appreciate the call, and you're right. Aaron Bradshaw, nice to see him have a good game. Thank you, guys. Appreciate it. Hey, now everybody's leaving me. I appreciate. Aaron Bradshaw,
Starting point is 00:49:01 that first half he had, he was excellent. And then Z had a great second half. So those dudes can each play one good half. We're in really, really shape. You know, Billy, we didn't talk about this. What about the truck in Louisville hanging from the bridge? Oh, my God. That was amazing that they were able to save that woman. Big shout out to the Lexington Fire Department for doing that. How did that truck not fall, though? Like, I don't understand the physics of how that thing didn't fall in the water. Thank goodness it didn't, but how did it not?
Starting point is 00:49:31 Or what happened? I don't know if you saw that or not. Did somebody cut in front of her? Oh, I don't know. I don't know. Well, I mean, you know, people can wreck. but how did that thing not fall? But big shout out to the Lexington Fire Department, or Louisville Fire Department for saving that woman's life. Can you imagine how scary it would have been just to sit there while you were waiting? It looked like it was out of Madam Webb or a Spider-Man movie. But I mean, I don't know how long, I don't know if you saw,
Starting point is 00:49:57 I don't know how long she sat in the car. Like, I don't know how long it took them to rescue her. But it had to be half an hour probably, right? Yeah. Response time to get there. Yeah. That had to be terrified. just to sit there and be like, you'd be worried that if you moved, it would fall into the water.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Yeah, absolutely. Two more. Who's next? Will. Will. What's up, Will? What do you think Kentucky needs to improve to be a better team? And my comment is, I think this was Aaron Bradshaw's breakout game.
Starting point is 00:50:34 Well, I hope you're right. As far as what do they need to improve? I mean, the easy answer would be play better defense, but I'm just not sure that's going to happen. I think they cannot get beat rebounding. They cannot allow teams to get offensive rebounds. They're going to give up a lot of good shots, so they can't let them get second and third chances. That's the key. So that's going to be my answer.
Starting point is 00:51:03 But yeah, I hope you're right about Aaron Bradshaw. had all the talent coming in and it would be nice to see him actually actually hit it. It's like Carolina is going to win. Christmas will come to the Billy Rutledge household. Thanks to the win for Carolina. Let's do one more and we'll call it tonight. Who's next? Jonathan.
Starting point is 00:51:24 Jonathan. Jonathan. Hey, Matt, they stay my call. And also, crazy thing about the bridge is that they've already fixed it. I can't hear you. What did you say? I can't talk to your phone. What'd you say?
Starting point is 00:51:37 Hey, can you hear me? Yes. All right. The crazy thing is that they already fix the bridge. Like usually they take a while to fix that second street bridge, but they already fixed it already. So it's crazy response time by the people, all people involved in that situation. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:51:54 And then about the game, I just wanted to highlight, like, the beginning of the season, like, we could not execute a lob play at all. Like, I think we were by the worst team. And now, like, we seem pretty money. So I just think the teamwork, the chemistry is all coming together at the right time. I definitely wouldn't say we're maybe even top five of Cal teams with throwing the lob. But we're definitely much improved from beginning of the season because it just was not going down the first half of the year. That's a really good point. People forget we were awful throwing lobs at the beginning of the year.
Starting point is 00:52:25 And now, I mean, they had probably what, five or six of them today, I think. So I think that's a good point. And part of it is, and I appreciate the call, you know, Z's pretty good at catching it. So, no, I think that's a good point. And listen, they're executing well. The Tennessee game is going to be a good test, and then the SEC tournament's a good test. I'll go so far as to say if they either will beat Tennessee in Knoxville
Starting point is 00:52:51 or win the SEC tournament, then I think they've got a shot to do the whole thing. If they lose them both, it doesn't mean we can't, but those will be two good tests for them. Can you beat Tennessee and? in Knoxville, can you beat that team that plays a style that you really struggled with? And then the SEC tournament's probably going to have the most Kentucky fans that's had in a long, long time because it's been a while since we've gotten to get a run.
Starting point is 00:53:17 Let's see if we can go win it. Thank you folks very much for listening. Thanks to everybody who came by the bar today. It's been a fun day here. Billy, I'm going to, I guess there's a new, like, foo-fui Chinese restaurant here in Lexington. Oh, where at? So I don't know. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:53:35 I'll tell you the name of it. It is called... Why am I looking at the text messages from you? You probably would... I don't know the answer. Shun Lee Lex. Okay. You got a big date tonight?
Starting point is 00:53:50 No, no. I'm going with some friends. But watch out Shunley, Lex. Here we go. Watch out. Thank you all very much for listening. And enjoy your weekend. We'll be back on Monday morning.
