Cats win by 46 and led from Moment 1. Game was never in question, and Kentucky gets the victory. You can give us a shout 859-280-2287. We will take your calls tonight, getting ready for big weekend. Obviously, the cats play tomorrow as well in football. Let's just really two different things to talk about. First, the game. I thought Kentucky actually played really well.

I said great on social media, and we had a lot of sort of negative folks saying it wasn't great. It was bad, or it was just serviceable. You know, you win by 46 and you're up by 30 at halftime. I'm going to take it. I thought a lot of good things happened. First of all, you look at this roster for Eastern Illinois, tallest player 6'7, you need to dominate them inside. They dominated them inside. pretty much all the bigs had nice point nights.

You should do that when you're taller than the other team. And then they did. So I'm not going to complain about that at all. They dominated on the glass. You know, just sitting here looking at the stats. Kentucky had Diabate had 20. Garrison only 6. But Yellovich with 11, Moreno with 11.

They outrebound them 49 to 17. That's an insane number. Billy, I'm not sure I've ever seen a 49. to 17 rebounding discrepancy. That's a lot. Yeah. That's crazy. Shoot 61% from the field. That's pretty good.

36% from three. Decent. Not great, but you'll take it. 21 assist. You like that. You know, free throw line, they didn't take very many, but 12 for 16. So overall, I'm good with it. The one negative number you sit and look at it is 13 turnovers.

That's too many. But a lot of those, I have. I mean, you've got to have a little bit of context. A lot of those are at the end of the game when the game's over. I mean, we're up 42 with 13 minutes to go. I think at that point maybe we had seven turnovers. You get six in the last little bit. I mean, I'm not going to get upset about that.

It's hard to keep your interest when you're up 43. In general, my sort of wonders about the team, though are still there. I mentioned Brandon Garrison only have six. You know, I still watching the game. I don't, well, first of all, I'll say the positive. Diabate was excellent. 20 points, 8 for 9, high energy. I loved, he needed a bounce back, double, double,

because I don't really think he played very well against Louisville. I thought he was really good. It was good to see Aberdeen continue. Had 26 the other night, 13 tonight. He ran the point, thought he played well. Jasper Johnson, a little inconsistent, but especially in the second half. I thought you saw some good stuff from Jasper.

He's going to have to be the backup point guard. If you listen to the game, the announcers who clearly had been talking with Pope said, basically he's going to get run at backup point guard. I think that's a good decision. Good to see that. So I'm generally happy. Cam Williams came in, hit two threes. That's what we want to see.

You know, negatives, I'm still a little concerned about O.A. I mean, he had 12. He gets 12 in his sleep. He still, though, to me, looks a little lackadaisical and just doesn't, he doesn't completely look to me like the guy I saw last year. And I thought Jack Givens, Goose, had a really good point on the postgame show. Against Michigan State, they are one of, if not the most physical teams in the country. They're also a team that gets out in transition. They're kind of like they sprint up the floor, they either get you with a layup or then they run a long set.

That's the way they play. Try to get transition or if they don't get it, then let's set up our offense. On defense, they're going to be the most physical team we play, probably. They're going to beat you, they're going to bang you. It's going to be a real test to me for O-Way. Jack said this, so I'm stealing his point. But will O-Way be the O-Way from last year, take it to the basket, draw fouls, draw the defense, or will he settle for threes from outside?

That's going to be the question. Which O-Way is it going to be? be. That Michigan State game will tell me a lot about where he is because the Louisville game he was bad. And then even tonight, I just, I just haven't felt like I've seen the Otega that I saw last year. Defensively, by the way, I thought Kentucky was really good. We held them to what? Was it 19 in the first half? That's a pretty amazing number, especially when you consider that nine of them were three-threes on back-to-back-to-back-to-back plays. So in a minute, we gave up nine and the other 19 minutes, I think we gave up 10 points.

That's pretty good. At the end, it gets sloppy. We fouled a lot. I've got to be honest with you. I don't care. Whatever. This game was over at that point. Michigan State becomes a very important game, and we'll have a lot of time to preview it.

Now, what I was the most interested in after the first half was, all, what's Mark going to say about, first of all, Jalen Lowe? I give Mark Pope credit. I think he's a lot more honest about injuries once you get him to talk. It's interesting, Billy, I feel like he's a lot more honest with the fans on that postgame radio show than he is with the media. I'm not saying he's not being honest with the media, but he's a lot more open. Yeah, I think he just likes talking to the fans.

I agree with you. I think there's something about when the fans are sitting there looking at him and they've stayed after the game, he just wants to be more open. He said about Jalen Lowe essentially said very similar injury. Now it's just about, and I think what he said was sitting with his, with our medical staff, his family, and his agents. You don't hear coach say agents, but he did, right? He did say that.

Correct. And making a decision. And that's a, you know, we'll see. I mean, there's a lot for, it sounds like to me, and I've talked to a couple people that you, a couple of you all have written me who work on these injuries. Like, he's going to have an unstable shoulder all year, which means this can happen again,

and it can happen again. And at some point he's going to have to get that fixed. So do you want to do it now, or do you want to wait and do it later? And I don't know what the downside of waiting and do it later is, but I would guess there must be some. Maybe it's just pain. I don't know.

You got to remember he still has another year of college eligibility. If he stops now, he might have two. So what happens if you play eight games, lose your second year of eligibility, and then get hurt? So they're probably thinking about all that, and he says they're going to decide over the next few days. So we'll see. Luckily, it's not a worse injury, or he would have already had surgery.

So that's good. then there was the whole Louisville thing, the pregame Louisville thing, which he gave two completely different answers to in his two postgame comments. In the comments to the media, here's what he said, in the comments to the media, he said, there's really not much to it. At some point I'll tell you the story, but I'd like you guys to prognosticate on that for a couple more days. It really is nothing. And then he quoted Taylor Swift. What did he say about Taylor Swift? I didn't hear this. Well, he did it to the media. So I didn't, I didn't hear it because I just saw

it on Twitter. So he said something about Taylor Swift, which, yeah, I don't know. I mean, I like Taylor Swift, but like, I don't know if this is the time to bring up Taylor Swift. But he said, I'm a big Taylor Swift fan, and I just love to leave out these things that keep everybody wondering and guessing. It really is nothing. It's just something about the emotional level of the team. So I have to tell you, I didn't really like that answer. Just because, I love Mark Pope,

but like, this isn't the time to screw with us. You know, we just lost the Louisville three days ago. We don't know if our point guard's going to play. I don't think this is the time to put, like, B-side album drops. You know, if you're going to say something happened before the Louisville game, just say it.

Well, I kind of wonder, Billy, if between when he talked to the media and he walked out and talked to the fans, I kind of wonder if somebody at UK said to him, hey, can we stop all this teasing? Oh, really? Well, I say that because then he said something different to the fans. To the fans on the post game show, he said, we are very meticulous about our emotions, but we don't want to be controlled by them. And then he told this story about how they do this thing before the game. The goal leading up to the game is to keep your emotions in check. And then right before the game, they flip the switch is what he says.

He does something where they flip the switch and get really pumped up. That's how I listen to it. And he said, quote, we flip the switch in the locker room an hour and a half too early, and that hurt us. So I don't really know what that means. I guess that means they do some kind of thing where it's like, you know. Game time. I don't know.

I guess. I mean, I have no idea because I'm not there. So I don't know. But he says we did it an hour and a half too early. Now, the question is, why would that matter? I guess it could matter if, you know, some of the rumors we've heard about, you know, potentially interactions with fans or interactions with each. other, if those were true, I don't know.

He said he would say more about it later. I just have to tell you, but I don't like this thing. I don't know why he's doing this. I think Drew said it really well in the pregame show. We all, both the fans and the team, need to move on from the Louisville game and this kind of like teasing back and forth of what happened. I just don't know what that does for anybody. He's kind of laughing about it, you know, poking fun at BD and how they're overreacting about a comment he made.

But you know, the last person that did that was Cal. I don't think laughing at the fan base is a great idea, especially after we just lost to Louisville. Now, he did say in the post game, like, we're embarrassed by the performance we gave you against Louisville. And he thanked the fans for come out. See, I love that about Pope. He doesn't scold Kentucky fans for being upset. about the game. Our previous coach would do that.

He'd scold us for being mad about losses. Pope does not do that. He recognizes, we lost, and that is bad. So I give him a lot of credit for doing that. But I don't understand the desire to kind of keep this story going. Do you disagree? No, no, not at all. This is kind of his first misstep to me.

I think it's a misstep. I do. I think it's a misstep. And I think it's a misstep born out of like, I don't know. I'm not sure why he's doing it. But either way, I hope he just gets rid of it before the Michigan State game. Either way, it's not the end of the world. I think Kentucky actually played well tonight.

You beat Michigan State, a lot of these things will go away. He did also note, there were two other things I thought were interesting. Number one, he noted that, he thinks the biggest problem against Louisville was not getting back on transition, which Jay Billis pointed out a lot during the game. He said they did a thing tonight where if you didn't sprint in the last 10 minutes of the game, he was going to make you run 17s. I think 17s are apparently some kind of sprint drill.

And then in the last 10 minutes, you can see those guys going crazy. And he essentially said the next home game, which is I think he gets loyal in Maryland. They're going to do it the whole game. and then well, my mind's already slipped on what the second one was. What was the second one? He said. I'm not sure.

All right. I'll think of it. He had a second comment I thought was important. But I do like that he recognized that in the Louisville game, getting back on defense, was maybe the most important issue. So, 859-280-2287. What did you think about the game? What do you think about the low news?

what would you do if you were Jalen Lowe knowing what we know about the injury, which is it could happen again, but also he might be the player most crucial to us having a chance to win the national championship. Oh, I remember what it was. He said, I'm a little upset with how behind I am with these guys, basically thinking they should be better than they are.

It's another thing I give him credit for being honest about. How many coaches would come out and say, we're just not as good as I think we should be right now. None. None. They would all just tell you to be patient. He's like, I am disappointed that I'm still having to teach basic stuff and that's on me. I just appreciate him saying that.

Not who. just currently played in the game we're talking about. I like that, though. By the way, I said it doesn't happen very much with the rebound margin. Kentucky won the rebound by 32. According to Big Blue history, this is only the second time that's happened since 1998. We outrebounded Vandy by 39 and 98 and Ohio by 36 in 2021. So that's in part when people say, well, why do you think the game was great?

We have, like, the third largest rebound margin in the last 30 years. It's pretty good. I think that makes it a pretty good, pretty good game. 859-280-2287. All right, who's up first? Brad. Brad. Go ahead, Brad.

Hey, what's up, fellas? So we blew out Wagner, so that was good. We did, you know, we didn't have a good offensive game. But the issues I did see was we played. played some rotations that I don't think we're going to be able to play against Michigan. I was hoping to see a little bit more, you know, play in regards to messing with the rotations. Like, who would you have wanted to see? Well, like, I don't think we can have Garrison and Moe playing together.

You're almost essentially three-on-five offensive. Well, I mean, I agree with you. If there was ever going to be a game where you could do it, though, it would be Michigan State. You know, I mean, like, if there was going to be any game this year that you could play two dudes like that together, it'd probably be them. Because they're a physical team that probably will have two guys like that in the game at the same time. So I don't disagree with you. I think against a lot of our schedule, you don't want to play those two guys together, but you actually might want to do it against them. Yeah, I mean, another three guys I would really like to see grow this.

year and I think they can. They've showed in Spurs as they can is a Cam, Yellowvich, and I guess, I mean, he's already showing him, but Chandler. I think Chandler is going to just continue to build upon his success. Well, he is your MVP, by the way, of the BBN Classic. Oh, is that right? Yeah. Yeah, they named him MVP. He gets an MVP trophy. So he only had four points tonight, but his past performances made him MVP. Sure. Yeah, and then on the O-Way thing, it just seems like he's checked out. I don't know if you guys saw that there was a pretty odd picture of pre-game before U of L,

and he was in street clothes, I think, during a walk-walk-through. So I don't understand. Yeah, but there were other guys in street clothes in that picture. I mean, he wasn't the only one. I mean, he was the obvious one, but there were a couple other guys. I'm with you. I don't want to say checked out because I appreciate the call. That makes it sound like he's not, like he doesn't care.

It does not feel like, though, the O way that we've had where he is locked in 100% effort, attacks the basket, diving for every loose ball. It doesn't feel like we've seen that yet, and I don't know why. but I think Michigan State will be the best test because that's a team that plays like that, right? So that's a team where they're all always in some ways. So let's see you match that. I think it's, you know, Jack said it earlier. I think that's going to be a huge test is what is Otega like in that game.

Who's next? Joe. Joe, go ahead, Joe. Hey, folks. Thanks for taking the call. I just wanted to note how lucky are we that Denzel, first of all, is just on the team because it was supposed to be the Indiana guy, who I think is just a two-guard, not a point guard. Say that again.

You're talking about Lamar Wilkinson? Yeah, he's just a shooting guard, right? At Indiana? Yeah. You know, I haven't seen him play. I think he is a shooting guard but can also kind of move over. and can't handle the ball if he wants, but he is, I think, primarily a shooting guard, yes.

Okay, yeah, I thought he was just a pure shooter. But, yeah, I was just going to say, I have confidence in Denzel. He was plus 37 tonight. Jasper was plus 13. So a little concerning there. But also remember, Jasper's playing with the bench, right? So, I mean, Aberdeen's getting to play with the starters.

Jasper's playing pretty much the entire game with the reserves. So it's not a, you know what I mean? It's not an equal comparison. That's true. That's true. Last thing was, I guess it's good you couldn't physically actually buy the Jalen Lowe stock that you've been talking about because you might be down a lot. Yeah. But I think with injuries, I feel like injuries don't count in the stock market.

Appreciate the call. You know, I mean, he can't help getting hurt, right? No, I think you lost all your money on that one. I don't think injuries. I don't think injuries should count in the stock market. You got to hold until next year? Is there any? I don't know what.

This is a tough game for me because I hate Louisville, but you know how I feel about dabbo. I am definitely rooting for dabbo here. I'm rooting for, I am rooting for dabbo, but, you know.

Brian. Go ahead, Brian. I'm at first time, long time. Who was? I'm calling today. Actually, a couple things. First, I want to give a shout out to my brother for hooking me up with a ticket to the game. He got called in right after the game was over to go deliver a baby.

Oh, okay. We were supposed to hang out tonight, but he got called in for baby delivery. Well, shout out to your brother for coming through, and I hope the baby ended up amazing. Right. And my other point about the game, I was thinking, with a game like this, like, we're going to blow this team no matter what. It's kind of more like looking at like trends and like players and like how they do in the game more so. Yeah.

I guess my big like complaint was like just Jasper and like the backup point guards and stuff and not really like seeing a real defined like player step up there, which is kind of disappointing. Yeah. I mean, I get it. It's going to, you know, it's going to have to be Jasper. I think if you don't have Jasper do it, then you're taking away. what makes Colin Chandler so good, right? So I think it's going to have to be Jasper, and he's going to have to be good. I mean, look, if I'm Jasper Johnson, and I see what, you know, he's played his entire

life playing against McHale Brown, right, the kid from Woolworth. Like, they've played against each other their whole lives. And McCale Brown was a star against your team, and you played six minutes. So you can either complain about that and say you should. should have been in more, or you can say, okay, I got to step up. So my hope is he sees that and elevates his game. He's going to play in a game, Saturday, which if you remember, every year the Champions Classic is like next to Duke and Carolina, it's the most watch college basketball games

of the year. He's going to have more eyes on him on Tuesday than maybe any game we play the rest of the year. So if I'm Jasper Johnson, I'm going to get chances in a game that matters. I hope he is more focused for that game than he's been any all season. Yeah, I think it was good to see him hit a couple of shots. And I think for a score like him, just seeing the ball go in the basket is huge. I just wouldn't like to have seen him make a couple better reads on some of those passes. Yeah.

Well, I appreciate the call. I mean, I'm excited about this game against Michigan State. part because I think we need to win it after losing the Louisville game. I also think the rest of our non-conference schedule looks a lot harder than it did two weeks ago. Indiana's been good. North Carolina's been good. St. John's we knew was good. Gonzaga's been better.

This is probably the easiest game of the power games we have in the non-conference. You've got to go win. And by the way, we're going to play six top 25 teams in the non-compet. I mean, I'd be surprised if there's very many other teams that do that. Who's next? Hunter. Hunter. Hunter, go ahead, Hunter.

And in my opinion, like, the great teams, they win these games by 30 to 40, like the really good teams every year. Yeah. Let me, on that point, let me just, I'm going to look, I'm looking real quick at the scoreboard. Okay, because I had a lot of people get like, how could you say this was great? All right. So I'm going to look right now real quick at the scoreboard. I'm just going to look at the top 25 teams in the country because almost everybody played tonight. Illinois's beating

Colgate by 18. Carolina's beating North Carolina Central by 26. Looks like Duke beat Indiana State by 38. Arkansas beat Sanford by four. Craton beat four. Craton beat Maryland Eastern by 27. Texas Tech beat Milwaukee by 17. I just say that to say, if we didn't play well, how do you explain the fact that we won this game more than any other team won their game in the top 25? And by the way, some of these teams played really bad teams as well. Go ahead. Exactly. And like I don't understand, like, I agree with you. I don't understand the, oh, like, it's whatever. But like, most of the great teams, when they play these games, they win 30 plus. That's how you know that they're good. That's how I tell that we have a good team from a maybe average.

team is, you know, do we beat him by 20? We beat him by 40. The other thing I'd say, though, is the one thing I will say is this game has left me with a lot more questions than answers, specifically because of Mark's post-game comments. Like, Mark's a smart dude. He doesn't just say something to say something. So what is his intention by this? And I don't really know. And hopefully we get some answers. That's my take. Have good night, guys. Appreciate it. I don't know. Listen, he has been pretty perfect in dealing with the fans. Like, I've seen no mistakes. I don't understand how he's handled this Louisville thing.

It's not the end of the world. It's not the biggest thing in the world, but it's the first time I'm like, what do you do it? And the fact that he also gave two different, like, he said two different things tonight. Not contrary, but, like, he wasn't going to say it, and later he said it. It's just almost like they're not exact.

What I think happened is he wish he hadn't said anything, and now he doesn't really know how to get out of it. Who's next? Josh. Josh. Go ahead, Josh. Okay. Well, first thing is I'm sure you've already done it,

but if not, if the folks haven't mentioned it, a big shout out to UK women's volleyball. I actually haven't. They won tonight. Yes. Yeah, they won. They were down two sets to, you know, nothing and then mustard got their championship stuff together and it was just a great overall effort

so you were at the volleyball game you were at the volleyball game no no actually i was at the basketball game we were just it's a harder ticket to get the volleyball games these days especially when they're playing against oklahoma um but we were one i would i really enjoyed and I think overall, I think this UK team is going to get a lot more out of this game. I know the score was lopsided, but as I was watching it, I saw that Eastern Illinois was a better team than I think the score reflected. I saw them executing sometimes to get into the rim against our defense, and as you've noted, they've played some pretty good defense. but I do think that they had skills enough that when they go back and they take a look at this, they're going to be able to isolate where we have some significant weaknesses.

Yes. You know, there was a period of time, and I think it was in the, you know, the second half of the top of the second half. He had a lineup in there, and I didn't know if we were going to score for a little while. I mean, it's, you know, obviously, it's still early in the season. They're learning how to play together. I'm not so worried. I'm hoping O.A. wakes up when it's going to be, when it's, you know, when you're on the big stage.

That's the question is, will that happen? And I'm with you. I hope it does. I don't think East Illinois is good. I appreciate the call. But I actually think they're probably better than the other teams we played this year. and we did, I mean, not obviously Louisville, but in the BBN United Classic. So one concerning thing, by the way, the SEC Billy right now, you know what the SEC's record is against Power 4 opponents?

No, is it bad? The SEC's record right now against Power 4 opponents is 2 and 9. Ouch. You know, we were the best conference in basketball last year. You could argue one of the best conferences of all time. And they're two and nine right now, and that includes one really good win, Alabama against St. John's. But like Central Florida beat Texas A&M by 15 tonight or 12 on their home floor. We have some bad losses so far.

I just say that because, you know, you get to some of these scores and it's like, maybe the conference isn't as good. And where that will matter is, you know, last year, we lost 10 games and we're still, what, a three-seed? Is that what we were? Believe so, yeah. I think we were a three-seat with 10 games. Well, ain't going to happen this year if the SEC's non-conference record doesn't get better. 859-28027.

Kenny, first of all, I got to say, who do you have to talk to about your schedule maker?

You've been on the road at Buffalo and on the road at Marshall. Who's scheduling you with all these road games in kind of random places? Well, I have to take credit for that, Matt. You know, it was very intentional. Obviously, getting back to Buffalo. Clara Strach is from Buffalo. I got to go back there. a tremendous experience for everyone.

The community really rallied around us. We actually have probably as many people there than they did. And then this game here, I just thought it made sense. Playing it on a road is going to give us an opportunity to get ready for SEC play. And so the schedule is very intentional, and hopefully it works out for the best for us. You know, you mentioned you were in Buffalo. We're leaving for Buffalo tomorrow. We're going up there for a Bill's game.

Me and Drew and Billy and Mario, we're driving up there. Any Buffalo tips? The wings are as advertised. So you got to go. I think it's a place called wing nuts. It's pretty good. So you have to try that. I actually love Buffalo is my second favorite team.

I'm a diehard Cowboys fan, which obviously they're not doing too well. So I've adopted Buffalo Bills because all the Kentucky boys is my secondary team. But the trip was wonderful. And everyone there really greeted us nice. We got a dove, so it was all great. Yeah, you got Ray and Dion and Maxwell all up there as well. You probably went up there as someone you were recruiting Claire, I would think. So you probably know the area well.

Well, I actually don't. You know, the way the whole recruiting process went, we didn't even go to Buffalo to see her. She came to see us. But, you know, we wanted to make sure we wanted to make sure we got back up there for her. And that was my first time there, so it was really good trip. I think it's cool you do that. I remember Shoshchewski used to do that at Duke for some of his guys. He would go play a game in their home place.

Roy Williams did it. So I always thought that was cool. Now, you're playing at Marshall tomorrow. That's a good team. I see they played Indiana very close and played the Buffalo team that we just talked about. Tell me about what you're expecting in Huntington tomorrow. Well, you know, they thrive on chaos. They're going to try to speed us up.

They're not as tall as we are, but they're fast. And they're going to try to just run around and cause havoc. Their system is very similar. to Tennessee. And we felt like this would be a really good preparation to get this under our belt. We have a new team, essentially, no Georgia A more, so beating a press is going to be different for us. So this will be a really good test for us.

By no means, it's going to be an easy game for us, and we're going to have our work cut out for us. But we think it's going to help strengthen this team and try to build some chemistry as we go along to try to get ready for the SEC. Do you do that? That's interesting. Do you schedule sometimes games in the non-conference to me? mirror teams that you will play in the conference play?

Absolutely. Absolutely. We're going to play. We played Moorhead State. That's not a game that I really love to play. They're very methodical, but that's going to mirror some of the teams in the SEC. This game in particular is going to mirror some of the teams in the SEC. And the only way that you're going to get ready for it is that if you've seen it a little

bit to some simulence. And this is going to be great preparation. And Julie does a tremendous job. I think the Lexington fans, Lexington and the people are very. very familiar with her from Transylvania. And, uh, it's just felt like it was a break game. That's my alma mater. She won us a national championship.

There, there you go. There you go. And next year, next year we'll bring her back to, uh, to Memorial and she'll be able to come back to, uh, Lexington. So, you know, this game had a lot more meaning, uh, you know, than just the actual game. And, uh, and that's why we really, you know, signed up to play this game. Oh, that's great. Yeah, of course.

I mean, she, are my alma mater's only national title. You mentioned your team's height. I'm sitting here looking at the stats. You guys are averaging 11 blocks a game. That has to lead the country, isn't it? Well, you know what? It does. We led the country last year in Block shots, and that's part of our defense.

You know, our DNA on defense is not, you know, fast where we're going to run and steal the ball and trap you. Our DNA is to protect the rim. And women's basketball, when you have a Clara strike on Tiani Key and Amelia has it, which we affectionately call the triplets, they really really, really caused a lot of havoc, and it makes us a very efficient defensive team. And that's what we lay our hat on is that type of defense. And it really works for us.

And on the other end, it gives us a plus two because we're a really good offensive rebounding team because of our height. Yeah, also your three leading scores. So I watched some of your last game. It is a very different team than the team last year because you don't have Georgia. I think a lot of people tomorrow and then Tuesday when you play, Purdue will be seeing this team maybe for the first time because the games have been on the computer and there's the YouTube dispute. It is very different than the team we saw last year.

It is. And obviously, when you have such a player, a dynamic player as Georgia, they almost are like once in a generation for a coach. So you have to go and, you know, you have to rebuild and restructure your team. And we've been very fortunate to have Tony Morgan, who was an all-ACC performer at Georgia Tech. She's come in. And Matt, I can't, can't tell you how excited and happy I am for her just because she's put in so much work. And when you follow a legend, you know, someone who's played for the coach for five years and is a sixth pick in the WMBA draft, sometimes people will shy away from that. But she's come in and she doesn't match.

She doesn't mind if I say George's name 100 times. She feels like that's the blueprint. And she's been able to take what we've given her and put her own little spin on it. And, you know, as a result, you know, she had one of the more dominating. games I've ever seen from a point guard the other night with 11.16 assist and zero turnover. See, wait a minute, 16 assists and zero turnovers. Wow. 16 assists and zero turnovers. And, you know, so she's putting her own stamp on it. She's trying to get comfortable. Everyone's trying to fill the way out. And this day and age, you know,

it's a little bit difficult for coaches as well as fans when you have the transfer portal. And essentially you're having, you know, a pretty much an all new team. Everyone has to get used to each other. And so that's what we're doing right now. And, you know, we're stumbling and we're fumbling a little bit, you know, but it's a good thing when you can win while you're doing that. And, you're creating our own identity. On Georgia, by the way, you didn't get to hear it. She was great on the Big Blue Mattis. Like, she's got a future in that. She's, I think you know. She was one of my favorite interviews that I've done since I've been here. All right, so you got the game tomorrow.

I don't want to skip ahead, but Tuesday, you guys play Purdue. Schedule picks up starting with tomorrow and then the Purdue game at home. You want to make, I think, a huge crowd impact on Tuesday. Talk about what you have going on Tuesday and Purdue coming in to Memorial Coliseum. You know, Purdue's coming in, obviously a big 10 opponent right up the road. It's going to be a great test for us, you know, and we want to get Memorial. This time of the year, it's difficult for fans. I get it, I understand.

They've got to make a choice. You know, they got the men's games. They got women's games. We're in full swing with our volleyball teams doing great. You know, we have soccer that's doing well. You know, so you have to pick and choose. This will be the last time that we'll be at Memorial for a month. You know, we're going to be able to go on the road and, you know, test our wits on the road a little bit.

So we want to get the fans in. We want to pack the house out. We want to give the young ladies, the Wildcats, a great send-off, so to speak. But we want to show everybody what's to come. And I think it would be a great opportunity. And, you know, there's going to be some fans. I know the men are playing on Tuesday. I think they play a half hour later than we do.

But, you know, rest of short, we're going to show a majority of the game on the big screen at Memorial while it's going on. So come on out. You can double dip. You know, you can cheer on the lady cats. And all the while, I still see the men playing and cheer them on to victory against Michigan State. I just think it would be a wonderful opportunity. And, you know, we got a lot of special things going on. uh in the house you know we need people there to show that we're going to be a great basketball team

I mean, we've got a lot of big games coming up, and there's going to be some lineups we've got to throw out there that, let's just say it can't guard. Can't guard very well. Is there any thought you think of maybe playing a little zone in the future? Just a little bit.

They could a little bit occasionally, but I actually disagree with you that they there are going to be lineups where we can't guard. I think in against Louisville, we didn't. Well, wait a minute, let me put that back. There are lineups where we won't be able to guard, but the good thing about this team is we should be able to always put a lineup on that can guard every kind of team. Now, against Louisville, we didn't.

But I think it was more execution and effort. I don't think it's like last year, because I think last year we just had guys who simply, I don't care how well they played, they were not going to be able to guard Alabama. I don't feel like Andrew this year's team is like. that. I think pretty much every team we play, if we execute, we will have players who can guard them. I hope so. Last year, it just kept coming back that we just, we can't stop a straight

line drive. Why don't we zone? But we weren't athletic last year. I mean, I agree with you, we should have played more zone maybe last year, but this year's team is not last years. I mean, last year, Kobe Brea couldn't guard anybody. Jackson wasn't a very good guarder. Andrew Carr couldn't guard anybody. Like, I mean, we just had some deficiencies that I don't, Travis Perry, like, I just don't think this year's team has those deficiencies. Yeah, I agree with you. One more quick question.

I'll get off here. What do you think about the bottom half of the SEC? I think it's going to be significantly weaker this year. And I don't think, I think we're going to have a chance to rack up some wins this year. I just think, don't think we're going to get as many quality opponents down the bottom of the conference. Totally agree with you. It's a weird conference schedule for us this year.

I appreciate the call. It's a very weird conference schedule because we play all the bad teams at home. So, like, you know, we have a home schedule where we shouldn't lose. I mean, the only two good teams we play at home are Florida and Tennessee. The rest of our home games are against, like, the worst teams in the conference. But the counter to that is we play all the good teams on the road. We play Alabama on the road, we play Auburn on the road, and we play Arkansas on the road. And I think we play Ole Miss here.

They're supposed to be decent. But so because of that, I think we're actually going to have, even if we struggle, we're actually going to have a pretty good conference record. But I do think, you know, it's not going to be like last year where every single game was a war, but it also meant you could get a quality win. the bottom half of the SEC, he's exactly right. It's much worse this year. I still think Alabama is really good.

Florida is really good. Tennessee's good. Arkansas's good. And Ole Miss is probably going to be all right. And then I just think there's a huge drop-off after that. And I think there's just a lot of teams. I may be missing somebody. But there's like A&M's bad, Georgia's bad, Mississippi State's bad,

South Carolina's really bad. I don't think Van Gogh is. Andy's good. I haven't really, Texas did not look good against Duke. Don't know much about Oklahoma. I just think it's a much weaker conference than it was last year. Who's next?

The key to Rupp Arena parking is to, first of all, do you want to, are you cool paying or do you not want to pay? We don't mind paying. If you don't mind paying, if you don't mind paying, then there are lots. on like second, like on second, main street, second, third, like, towards the, towards trancy, okay? There are little side lots that are easy to get out.

So get on that side and then get out. So like there are little church lots or things like that that you can get out pretty quick. And that's what I would do. And then now, if you don't want to pay, the best thing to do, and I can't tell you, where they are Billy because I'd be ruining it for other people. But there are side streets. There are side streets between KS Bar and Rupp that, think if you're at KS Bar and you're coming to Rupp.

There's some side streets on the left on that drive that nobody uses. There's some parking over there. I walked by 10 minutes before the game and the street had like 10 spots. So that's where I would do. And that's actually very close to the arena. and free. So I'll just, that's the biggest hint I can give you.

Okay, we come to KSR during football season and do the shuttle. There's no shuttle. Yeah, and it's about a mile, it's like 1.1 miles from KS Bar to the arena. But in between, there's some side streets

but if he's going to play and have a substantial role, he's going to have that better decision-making. I just worry that he's going to be the odd man out when Quentin comes back. I worry about it, too, but I'm more worried about his defense. I just think last year, he was a decent defender, and I feel like he's been really bad this year so far defensive. He was awful against Louisville, but even tonight, I'm just, I don't know. It feels like he, especially on screen, just makes really bad decision.

But go ahead. My second thing was, I'm a season ticket holder, so I was at the game or not. And I'm surprised Pope hasn't tried a lineup of Aberdeen, Chandler, Mo, Yellovich, and Marino all together. I know it kind of limits the penetration from the guards, but I just think Yelovich and Mo are just so good. And I just don't think you'd keep them off the court. I just think that would be. I mean, you got, yeah, I appreciate the call. Yeah, I don't, I mean, I don't think you played three bigs.

But I do, I mean, tonight a lineup that was kind of effective for them is they had Cam Williams at the three with Yellovich and Moreno. And it actually seemed like it worked decently well. In general, I don't advocate that, but, you know, all those guys can shoot a little bit. So it probably, probably works out okay. 25 seconds. Louisville has it on the 20. Who's next? Eric.

I think this was a good rebound game for us. We did exactly what we needed to do. And I think the thing that I'm most happy about with this is that this team has a huge upside, and we were able to do in this game exactly what we needed to do after the loss of Louisville. Because everything we struggle with in Louisville is fixable, even though it burns really, really bad to lose to somebody like them. Totally. I agree with you.

I don't expect us to be as bad defensively. as we were against Louisville. It just doesn't make sense for how this team is built. So I hope. And we still scored 88 points. I mean, the problem to me was more defense than offense. I agree. And I think that we've got offensive weapons.

And the biggest problem I think that BVN is facing right now is that last year's team didn't have great athletes, didn't have superstar players. And I don't know we have superstar players. this year, but we have much better athletes. And Pope was able to get them to overperform a lot last year, I felt like. And I think BBN is going to expect the same thing out of this lineup. And if we don't, he's going to have a lot of naysayers, unfortunately.

No, he will. He will. But we're still a long way away from that. But I appreciate the call. Good to hear from you. Billy, you know that story. Were you with us in 2017 when my car got, what happened to it? That was when I joined, so I don't know the story.

So I was driving to a remote. I think it was in somewhere in eastern Kentucky, and I had a Cadillac, like an SUV Cadillac, and the engine locked up because I didn't change the oil enough. Oh, I have. I do know this story. Which was really stupid. And I got it towed back to the Cadillac dealership, and that guy, he worked there, and he bought it off of me because he said his wife had always wanted one, and he could fix it.

and he fixed it. Like, I thought that meant when your engine locked up while you were done, right? Right. So I sold it to him, and he fixed it, and then he gave his wife a car. Do you regularly put in oil now? Now I do. Okay. I wasn't as good about it then.

No, I will tell you, when your car locks up on the eastern Kentucky Parkway, and you end up on the side of the road, and then you can't use the car anymore. You learn, Billy. Honestly, I was just kind of calling to ask about, like, given the Jalen Lowe situation, what would you say, like, realistically, let's say he, like, does not come back for the season. What do you think is, like, the cat's, like, realistic destination going forward into the tournament?

Okay, so I don't, you know me. I don't predict what we're going to do in the tournament because I think it's random, right? So now if you're asking me, though, what could our record be? I think we still can be a contender in the SEC and a two or three seat. I don't think we can be a one seed without Jalen Lowe. Now, when you get to a tournament, I think we're an elite, I think we're a little, bit better of a tournament upside than last year. So I think we're like an elite eight level team.

But, you know, if you get a good draw, you can get to the final four still. If you get a bad draw, you could lose in the sweet 16 or second round. But I sort of see this team if it reaches its potential without Jalen Lowe as being like, I don't know, six to ten. but there's also a world where they don't and we're like a six seed. So it kind of depends on if they reach their potential. Because the one thing about Jalen Lowe, beyond the fact that he creates offense is end-of-game situations, that's a dude who can get you a bucket. If nothing else is going.

Like think about the Louisville game. We had a long period of time where we were not able to score, and then they put him in and immediately we scored. Right. I don't know if we have a dude like that without him. him and that's what worries me a little bit. Yeah, I agree. Well, that's all I had.

I'll be joining the St. John's game, so I'm planning for that. Well, thank you. Enjoy it. You know, I mean, maybe Aberdeen will be that. I heard you early this week say that. That's the only reason I'm bringing up. I'm a big fan. My wife and kids tolerate you, so it should be okay. That's the kind of random thing I like to do on these trips. So here's what we'll do. Because, I mean, if we can get, I hope you understand, if we can get farther than that, we need to just do it.

But if we're going to be close to there, like, that's about where I thought we were going to be. So I'll tell you what, hang on, give Billy your address and your phone number. And if it works out that we are close to that, then yes, we will do the post-game show in your house. if you, now, this is the one, and I'm glad to pay for it. I'm not asking you do something, but will you have pizza there so that we can then get on the road when it's over? Would you like Costco pizza or you want to get something local?
