The Cats get a necessary and important win against Indiana at home 726. the renewal of the rivalry after over a decade of it lying dormant. Kentucky wins kind of going away in the second half in a surprising but very important victory.
Starting point is 00:02:41 You can give us a shout. 859-280-2287. We'll be taking your calls. I'm in Middlesbrough with my parents here, so I'm, this haven't done a show here in a while, but glad to be with you guys late on a Saturday night. I know the weather. is bad right now in Lexington and Central Kentucky. I'm told that it has dropped like 10 degrees in temperature in the last hour.
Starting point is 00:03:07 So for people who are driving home from the game, everybody, please be careful because I know it's not the best condition. It was a really good day for UK athletics. The volleyball team, of course, makes the final four. But on this basketball thing, this was, I think, about as close as you can get to a must-win game in December. for a lot of reasons. One, Kentucky's got has to start getting wins against teams that are decent,
Starting point is 00:03:32 even just for a tournament resume. I mean, they've played four top 25 teams going into tonight, and they've lost them all, which isn't the worst thing in the world for your tournament resume, but you've got to beat somebody. And losing at home hurts you double, and they needed to win. And in the first half,
Starting point is 00:03:48 it looked a lot like the Kentucky team we've seen pretty much against every good team this year. Stagnan. on offense. Kentucky was kind of fortunate that Indiana fouled quite a bit in the first half, even though Kentucky didn't shoot free throws great in the first half. It kind of kept them going. But the second half was a different Kentucky group, and the optimist within us can say that's closer to the Kentucky team that was envisioned before the season started. Two guys made the difference, Jalen Lowe and Mo Diabate. I don't think it's a coincidence that those guys
Starting point is 00:04:24 have been out. Diabate did not play in the last couple weeks, but really, in terms of health, you haven't had those two guys together since the Louisville game, and having them on the floor together, was a huge difference. J.L. Lowe was plus 24. I want you to think about that for a second. Kentucky won by 12. He was plus 24, whereas, and Mo Diabate was plus 18. It was just a different game when those guys were in. Diabate was a beast on the glass, as was Brandon Garrison. This was one of the few games against a good team this year where Kentucky has had an obvious advantage in an area, and that was height and on the boards. Kentucky did, and you're going to hear me talk about Barclay in Vitale in a minute, but Barclay did a good job of calling this early.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Barkley was like, you got them via size. He basically said, just put the ball up on the glass and get offensive rebounds. He called that early, and it ended up being a really good strategy. Kentucky missed a lot of layups, but because they were able to hit the glass, get the offensive rebounds, they got putbacks, and I thought Diabate was excellent. There's a picture that's gone viral, but it should. There's a play where there are five Indiana guys under the glass and one Kentucky guy, and the Kentucky guy was Diabate, and he got the rebound.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Same thing with Brandon Garrison, by the way. he's been kind of an easy dude to give a hard time to this year, and I think a lot of the year he's deserved it, but not tonight. Played hard, really had a lot of energy and aggression. I think the kind of spark that started the second half, a lot of it was Brandon, I think. The energy he had in the first half when they were struggling scoring, he had back-to-back scoring plays that were big,
Starting point is 00:06:14 and then, of course, the dunk was nasty, should have been an N-1. I think he deserves a lot of credit. Great game for Brandon. And then Jalen Lowe, you know, Billy, I held on to my Jalen Lowe stock after everybody was telling me. It was overvalue. Yes, because you saw in the second half tonight, he's not going to be consistently great. He's a streaky guy. But this team cannot be really good without him.
Starting point is 00:06:41 They just can't. He is, again, Barclay noted this, but we've been saying this since me in the year. He's the only guy on the team who can consistently get his own shot. Now, tonight he missed that shot. He missed a couple of layups. But he's the only guy that can cross over his man consistently and get his own shot and get open and then get other guys open and get other guys shots. No one else on the team can do that.
Starting point is 00:07:07 You know, there are some guys who can get buckets occasionally. But, you know, I like Denzel Aberdeen, but when he starts that crossback dribbling, that's usually not going somewhere good. O.Way can like bully his way into the basket, but he's not a guy who can beat him, you know, beat a player to the side, the bigs, that's not their strength. Low can do it. And it just opens everything up.
Starting point is 00:07:32 The moment he got in, in both the first half and the second half, it's just different with him. If he ever gets to the point that he starts shooting the ball well, I mean, he was a 90, I think Billy was a 91% free throw shooter at Pitt, and he missed three free throws tonight. But if he gets to the point that he starts shooting the ball will, okay, now it's a different thing. Because he was clearly hesitant to shoot at times from the outside.
Starting point is 00:07:58 But it's just a different offensive team without him. Now, he causes some problems for you on the defensive end. But the rest of the team's defense, I thought the defense was actually great the whole game. In the first half, Kentucky played really, really poorly offensively. But they stayed in the game. game because of their defense and their energy. And I think from a, I mean, Indiana scored 117 points against Penn State earlier this
Starting point is 00:08:25 week, a Penn State team that took Michigan State to the final horn today. 117, and we held them to 60. Some of that was they couldn't really get in rhythm. I think the constant foul calling probably helped us a little bit because they never really got in the rhythm of their offense. But we extended out on the shooters, except at the very end, we did a very end. a pretty good job of keeping them off the glass. And I thought from an energy perspective, Kentucky gave energy all night.
Starting point is 00:08:55 But then they started to click in the second half, especially offensively. And it's a positive step, you know, excuse me, I don't know. I don't know if this team can be really good. I still think, you know, I want to see low play more. I want to see what happens when Quaintance comes. There's a lot of things I want to see. But they had looked abysmal in some of these games. And tonight, in the second half,
Starting point is 00:09:25 you started to see a team that you were hoping to see. And you started to see a team that can have success that can beat and play with good teams. I mean, I kind of wish we could have just pulled out that North Carolina game because your resume looks very different if you win that. But you go, we play St. John's next Saturday. St. John's has struggled. They don't really have a point guard like we haven't had most of the year.
Starting point is 00:09:50 So I think that's a winnable game for us Saturday. And now I feel like there's a chance we can actually win it, which is not necessarily something I felt like earlier today. Two things before we take a break and then get to your calls. I liked Barkley and Vital. You didn't get to hear it, right, Billy? So you didn't get to hear it. I could have done without the camera on this.
Starting point is 00:10:13 them, even though, but like, for me, Dick Vital, to me, is college basketball on television. And Charles Barkley might be my favorite non-Kentucky basketball player of all time. And I think he's the best former player sports announcer in any sport ever. And you put the two of them on a game, it's a Kentucky game. That's kind of cool that they're on a Kentucky game. And I enjoyed it. I actually thought, you know, it's clear if Barclay hasn't watched us play. He discovered Jalen Lowe was on the team, I think, during the game.
Starting point is 00:10:50 But I actually thought his analysis was pretty good. He called early on that we were not spread out and we were not getting any offensive movement. He noted the two guys that changed the game when they came in. I actually thought he did a really good job of talking about the problem. And he had a great line where he said, Dick Vital said, well, now they're getting past. or something like that. And he said, well, you can't get paid and lose, which is what was happening. I do want to know where he ate his fried chicken.
Starting point is 00:11:22 You didn't hear that, Billy. He said that he had the best fried chicken of his life in Lexington last night. But he didn't say what the restaurant was, right? Like that restaurant, I think, I think it was Frank and Dinos. But I don't know. And now I want to have the chicken. If Charles Barkley, who grew up in Alabama, is telling me that the best fried chicken he's ever had in his life is in Lexington, don't you want to know where that is? Oh, it'd get overrun, just like Sissy-Kays.
Starting point is 00:11:53 I think it would be like the best thing that could happen, but he didn't say the name of the place. But I think it was Fracadinos, but I could be wrong. Don't everybody go rush him for the fried chicken there until we get confirmation. But I thought he was good. And people were like, well, they didn't talk a lot about the game. What did you think when it was those two? but those two guys will go down in history as maybe the two most important basketball announcers of all time. Dick in college and Charles is in the NBA.
Starting point is 00:12:22 And to have them in Rupp and to have Charles talk about Rupp Arena and Kentucky basketball like he did, he said like it was a religious experience the first time he came to Rupp Arena. That's a cool thing. So there'll be plenty of games where we can get analysis of the game. I actually thought tonight was kind of awesome. And then secondly, I do want to say this. Like, I'm at home. Obviously, I'm visiting my parents.
Starting point is 00:12:46 It was very cool to get to watch that game tonight with my dad and watch us win that game. You know, it was very cool. Kentucky basketball unites people in families and the like. And I'm very grateful I got to have that this evening. So I missed the pregame show today, but I also appreciate everybody understanding that I want to do the show tonight, but that was also a very cool thing for me personally. 859-28027. We will take your calls.
Starting point is 00:13:23 The weather is bad. Not here, but it is where a lot of you all are. So stay warm, and we'll be up with you tonight. We'll take a break and be right back. This is the local toy dealers, KSR, post-game show. Welcome back. It is the local toy dealers, KSR. I saw our post game show.
Starting point is 00:13:38 All right. So a number of you've written me and said it was the Merrick Inn. I guess he said that on the broadcast. I don't know how I missed that because I heard him talk about, I heard him talking about the woman in the kitchen that he thought worked there. But I didn't hear it was the American Inn. That's the most good publicity, Billy. The Merrick Inn's gotten since Billy Clyde was in town back in the day.
Starting point is 00:14:02 One of the great Billy Clyde Legends was at the Merrikan. Although I don't know if it was, nobody ever really knew if it was true. But I haven't been to the Merrick Inn to eat. Maybe I used to go with my family, but it's probably been 10 years. So now maybe we had to go for the fried chicken, right? It'll be a little busy for a while. It might be busy. That might be the best, the best advertisement.
Starting point is 00:14:30 It's for all y'all, Billy. Oh, okay. I hadn't heard that enough. I got to eat at the gondolier in Harrogate, Tennessee. It's pretty much the same. 859-280-2287. By the way, Alabama is getting run off the court by Arizona. Arizona and Michigan are like both really, really, really good.
Starting point is 00:14:55 Arkansas won today too. So who knows? Maybe Arkansas and Cal might be one of the favorites. Although they remember Arkansas did almost lose to win. Thrope and Sanford. So with Cal, you give it and you take it away. But there's still UCLA and Gonzaga tonight. Who's up first?
Starting point is 00:15:13 James. James. Go ahead, James. Is it me? James. I guess it is. Yes, go ahead. All right.
Starting point is 00:15:21 So I've been screaming about platoon, I don't know, for a month now, but why did Cal do a platoon in 2050? Is that what you're leaving? him with after we just won? Yeah, I am. Okay. You've waited 10 years to ask that question? No, I'm just asking tonight.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Okay. Well, I appreciate the call because he had a lot of good players. But I'm not going to focus on that tonight. I actually thought where you were going with that was Pope narrowed the lineup in the second half. Basically, for most of the second half, only played six dudes. He essentially was playing Low, O'way, Williams Garrison, Diabate,
Starting point is 00:16:11 and then he gave a few minutes to Aberdeem, but not a lot. I mean, he basically stuck with those guys, and it worked. Chandler didn't really get in much in the second half. Noah didn't really get in much in the second half. Moreno really didn't play. I thought that lineup worked. you know, O-Way is so much better when he can kind of be in that secondary role and obviously low controlling the game and Diabate hitting the glass
Starting point is 00:16:39 and Cam Williams I thought played pretty well. First of all, we got to start those guys. We started the first half poorly and the second half was starting poorly, offensively, and then he immediately put low in. Lo and Diabate should start every game from now on. I think Lowe and Diabate are in. I'm open to switching at the other positions. But low O-A-Diabate, I cannot imagine a scenario where those three guys shouldn't start.
Starting point is 00:17:11 And everybody else, you know, I could see Chandler, I could see Aberdeen, I could see Cam Williams, I could even see Garris and Moreno, but you got to have those guys in at the beginning games. Who's next? Austin. Austin. Austin. Go ahead, Austin. Hey, gentlemen. How are you all doing tonight?
Starting point is 00:17:27 Doing good. Good to hear it. Matt, great job. Diamond Hands on Jalen Lowe. I was right there with you. I agree. I don't know. And he's going to have bad games. Okay, he is. He is going, you know, he made some bad plays at the end of the Louisville game. We're going to have to live with that. But without him, we ain't beating anybody good without him, in my opinion. 100%. 100%. I agree. Tonight was much needed. I was ready to throw the towel in. this season if we didn't win tonight. So this was a big one for us, and I'm glad we got it.
Starting point is 00:18:02 But I'll shut up and let you guys talk. Me too. I agree. And I thought the first half was one of the more miserable halves of basketball by both teams I've ever seen. And then I thought we looked great. I really thought we played really, really well in the second half. And the crowd, again, I wasn't there.
Starting point is 00:18:19 But I'd be interested if somebody was at the game, the crowd seemed awesome on TV. Like, it really seemed like that place in the second half was really. rocking. I'd be interested if those of you that were there, is that correct? Because it just felt like one of those great atmospheres in that second half. And we went on, what, a 17 to 2 run in just a few minutes? That would have been one of those. I think it would have been really, really cool to be in the building. Who's next? Heather. Heather, go ahead, Heather. Well, hello there. I haven't talked to you in a while, so I feel like I've got a lot to air out here, but first I want to say prayers to Larry and your mom and you.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Thank you. She's listening downstairs and he is asleep, but I will pass it on. Okay. And then I too loved Dicki V and Chuck something different. And I loved hearing them. And then tonight I really felt like I was watching a whole different team. They had energy and effort. They was tough.
Starting point is 00:19:32 I mean, we had really a lot of toughness out of any of our players. And then Mo Diabote comes in, and it's like he's Incredible Hulk or something, you know, just showing toughness. And rebounding, Lord, I scream at my TV every game. Like, somebody get in there and rebound. and it was nice to just see him rebound tonight. It was. They did a great job. You're exactly right about that.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Nice to hear from you, Heather, by the way. I glad to hear your voice. Appreciate the call. I love the toughness. I thought they gave, even though they did not play well in the first half, I thought they gave energy the whole game. I loved, you know, the Gensaga game was such a meltdown in every way. That having that energy, and, again, not to keep praising Barker,
Starting point is 00:20:25 But Barclay said that at one point. They're not playing well, but they are playing hard. And that's true. I think they were. And then it started to click in the second half. And I don't think there's going to be a lot of games this year where we're going to be tougher inside than the other teams. Maybe some, but not a lot.
Starting point is 00:20:43 But we were tonight. And so we needed to take advantage of it, and we did. And, you know, Indiana is not an athletic team. And they don't have a lot of size. And we were able to take advantage. And then I don't think you can dismiss Lamar Wilkinson getting in foul trouble. He got his fourth foul early in the second half, and that took away. They just didn't have a whole lot of offense outside of him, which is crazy to think they scored 117 the other night.
Starting point is 00:21:08 And they didn't have a lot of offense. They just didn't. And we did a good job of getting out on their three-point shooters and contesting them. I thought we did a really excellent job at that. Who's up next? Larry. Larry. Go ahead, Larry.
Starting point is 00:21:20 This is something for his dad. Okay, thank you. My name is Larry. But where do you live, Larry? Where do you live, Larry? I live in Leslie County. Leslie County. All right.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Good deal. Yeah. Yeah, and I'll listen to y'all all the time and time, but that's pretty good. You can't be 100% time, you know. What, what, what, can I ask you? Where are the 10% where I mess up? No money on football. Because basketball, I guess it, but I watch, I watch TV.
Starting point is 00:22:31 I watch on the radio. This old woman called in and said I. There you go. Well, Larry, my good friend, my good friend, Chris Mosley, his dad used to own the Napa there, I think. So I don't know if he still does. Chis or Chin. We got him in Chis or Ten. I play football with him.
Starting point is 00:22:52 Luce County, yep, football. Well, good. Well, good. I know them all. Well, good. I just talked to Chris the other day. You all every night, whatever the game is to see you.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Thank you later. I'm just going to turn you back on. Appreciate it. Thank you. I see, Billy, I liked him. Yeah. What? I have a soft spot for people from Easter Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:23:20 And that's Larry. And he knew, I've never heard my friend, Chris's dad called, did he say chisel chin? I didn't understand a few words. I didn't understand that. But you know what? I'll ask Chris if that's true.
Starting point is 00:23:35 He seemed to light up when he mentioned that guy. I mean, I'm sure everybody, it's the Napa store and Leslie can't. I'm sure they knew him. I mean, there's only one, so I'm sure they knew him. Who's next? Butler. Butler, go ahead, Butler.
Starting point is 00:23:50 Hey, man. How are you doing, brother? Doing good. first of all i hope your dad's doing good is he all right he's doing okay but thank you for thank you for asking we had it we had a good day so thank you okay well second of all everybody always asks how the the person in need is doing how are you and your mom and the close family doing because that's that's just as important you know people don't ever ask that they need to ask that how are you all holding up it's very nice of you it's upset and we're doing all right.
Starting point is 00:24:24 My mom's, you know, she's also, she's got a lot going on too. So, but, yeah, thank you for asking that. You're very welcome. You all were there for me when my dad was in a hospital. You even gave me tickets to a football game and all that. And that helped in that time of need. You know, you're going through a rough spell and any little thing like that helps. So nobody ever asks how the family's done.
Starting point is 00:24:49 They ask how the person in the situation is done, but they don't ask about the family. But anyway, prayers to you. And I hope things are going well with you. I remember you now, and I hope things are going all right. Thank you for calling. Oh, you're very welcome. But my question is, do you think going forward now?
Starting point is 00:25:08 Do you think we're back on track, or do you think this was a... Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I think we'll know a lot more on Saturday. I don't think Indiana is very good. I agree. But at the same time, I don't think. think North Carolina was very good and we lost them. So, yeah, it's certainly more positive.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Let's see how we do against St. Jaws. Win or lose, I want to see that the offense that I saw in that second half, because we saw – this is the first time in the second half, in my opinion, that the offenses looked good since that stretch of the Louisville game where we came back, you know, because we were down like 20 and we cut it to four. I don't really know that the offenses looked good since then. And I think it looked good tonight. And so I want to see,
Starting point is 00:25:56 can we continue that? Do you think Jalen Lowe is back now full time? Well, I mean, they played him a lot in that second half. I was worried because he only played seven minutes in the first half. And so I was thinking, like, are they just only going to play him 15 minutes? But then they played him 16 minutes in the second half. Basically, they only took him out. They didn't start him.
Starting point is 00:26:17 He came in two minutes in, and then he set out two minutes in the middle. So if he's playing that much, then I got to think they're going to keep playing him. So I hope the answer to that question is yes. Okay, my last name. Defense should not be, I mean, in the beginning of the season, I remember Ryan Fleming saying that this is a dagam good defense. Should have been. But you got to play the right guys.
Starting point is 00:26:48 So it's good to hear from me. I appreciate the call. So the problem is this is how I would read the defense. side. Diabate is a really good defender, and he was out, right? I think all the guys were mispositioned, and then I don't think we were given effort. And I think Brandon Garrison, who should be a good defender and was good tonight, was not playing well.
Starting point is 00:27:14 And then we have a couple guys who just are not good defenders, okay? Trent Noah is not a great defender. And so when he's playing a lot, that's going to hurt you a little bit. I think Cam Williams, he got a great block on that three, but he had not been playing well on defense. I actually thought he was good tonight. Moreno is a good perimeter defender, not a great interior defender. So, I mean, we were having to play some guys who maybe that wasn't their strength. Chandler has played good defense some this year, but tonight especially was not.
Starting point is 00:27:46 Lowe is not a good defender, but you got to have him on for the offense. The one thing Lowe can do is get you steals. he kind of got the steel that sort of ended the game. But I thought O-Way played really good defense tonight, too. So if Kentucky's good, this is an O-Way night, right? Like, we can't, if we're waiting on O-A to score 23, I think you're in trouble. I mean, if that's what you're waiting on.
Starting point is 00:28:12 Tonight, to me, is O-A's kind of night. Because, like, you don't think about him, and then you look up and let's see, what did he have here? Let me pull it up. O.A had 10 points, well, four rebounds. It didn't have as mean as I thought. But 10 to 15 is where you want him and playing good defense. And I thought he ended up with that tonight.
Starting point is 00:28:31 The three he hit was big. I don't think we'd hit a three yet. And then he hit one that I think cut it to a two-point game. 859-280, 2287. Let's take a break. Gonzaga and UCLA starting. Now this is part of the year. We probably want Gonzaga to win games like this.
Starting point is 00:28:49 so we need to pull for them. Top 25 match up. This is the game we played in last year. It's in Seattle. We'll take a break and be right back. This is the local Toyota dealers, KSR, post-game show. So, Billy, during the break, I was trying to think, I was thinking about the Larry that called and said that chisel chin, right?
Starting point is 00:29:07 Right. But, you know, it didn't occur to me. I think of someone having a chiseled chin, but that's probably the same thing, right? It's just more, some people add the ED. Is it? Well, I look it up and it says chisel chin is someone who has a strong, well-dified jaw line with sharp angles symbolizing confidence, strength, and attractiveness. And they're showing examples. And, yeah, that's a chisel chin.
Starting point is 00:29:33 And my friend Chris Mosley has it. So I don't know if he was talking about his dad or him. But I don't think either one of them thought they were going to get this much airtime, at least that their chin would on the post game show, right? How handsome they are, I guess. Yeah, I mean, who knew in Leslie County? You're getting that kind of run. 859-280-2287. A couple things.
Starting point is 00:29:55 I'd like everybody to prayers for the stuff for the situation at Brown University tonight. I don't think they still have not caught the shooter, right? Am I right about that, Billy? This mass shooter tonight? I had not heard of this news before you just said. At Brown University, two students, I think, are dead. and they're like eight seriously wounded. Kids were studying.
Starting point is 00:30:21 I don't know if it's in the library or studying somewhere for finals and a shooter opened up fire. You know, my friend Craig Greenberg, who's the mayor of Louisville, his son goes there. So, you know, they still have not caught the person. So prayers to everyone there that hopefully everybody.
Starting point is 00:30:42 Yeah, so a Brown University professor says that the shooting broke out in a review session for an economics class. It's awful. Terrible. 859-280-2287. Who's up next? Kyle is next.
Starting point is 00:30:56 Kyle, go ahead, Kyle. Go-cats. Go-cats. I just want to say that Terry Miner's interrupted episode, Matt, was very good. Just love that. So I have to get out of the way first. We've gotten a lot of good feedback on that,
Starting point is 00:31:11 and I appreciate that. He and I both probably got a little more in depth than we thought we would. But go ahead. You did. I'll go all the way back to the already 80s with that guy. But, man, the crowd of rough was just lit up. You can just tell you, and coming through on TV, the energy was there.
Starting point is 00:31:30 And it seemed to really rub off on the players. But, man, one thing I saw, did, did you see the stupid sign, Dispy Dude, Dunkeroo? It's Dipsy dude. Can't they spell that right up there? Oh, did they spell it? Was that a student son? Was it a student sign?
Starting point is 00:31:46 Yeah, the student sign, but they just kept showing it, you know, dispy dude. Come on, guys. Yeah, it is. Although I do wonder, like, if a kid, if it was in the student section, like, do kids in college remember how big a deal Dick Vital was? Like. That was very true. I mean, he was doing, and I appreciate the call, he was doing games, he's been doing games this whole time. But post-COVID, he doesn't, it's not, he hasn't done as many.
Starting point is 00:32:13 but I don't know Because like in my era He's a legend But I don't know if like college kids now If that's what do you think Billy I mean you're a little younger What are you 30? I'm 30 I remember Prime Dick Vital
Starting point is 00:32:28 But so you you Because like he would they showed the Watford shot He was doing that game You know that was 2011 2012 season so Yeah Mario doesn't give me a lot of hope For what these kids know From back in the day
Starting point is 00:32:39 Honestly you're like What are you like three years older than him Like you don't have to like you're four years older than you? Yeah, it's like four. Yeah. Okay. By the way, we crashed the American website.
Starting point is 00:32:50 I mean, it doesn't work right now, but I guess when people looking up the chicken. Thank you, Sir Charles. Yeah, no kidding. Who's next? Stub. Stubb, 859-28027. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:33:05 So the pajama pant wearing bob-knit and boot lickers can go back to Indiana and suck on chili. outside the tasty freeze. This is a big win. Go cats. I appreciate. Appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:33:24 If I was an Indiana fan, I would not have enjoyed the broadcast because it felt like to me, Vital and Charles only talked about Kentucky. At one point, Charles Barkley said, get in on a Jalen low shot. He was feeling it. He was like,
Starting point is 00:33:42 I think Charles especially was actively rooting for Kentucky. I don't know what India, but I cannot imagine Indiana fans enjoyed that broadcast. I just can't. Maybe they did. One second, because I forgot to do this a minute ago. Volleyball.
Starting point is 00:33:58 The women make it to the Final Four. I heard an amazing crowd at the volleyball game. Mario was there, said it was like wild. They will now make the Final Four. Did Pitt, is that who we play next? Pitt. Let me look it up here. I think Pip beat Purdue, and I think we play them next.
Starting point is 00:34:19 But we will be in the final four. That game is Thursday night in Kansas City. We will have a watch party at the bar that should be a lot of fun Thursday night. And then the finals, I believe, are on Sunday. So I think the semifinals are on Thursday. And then if we win, the finals are on Sunday. I believe we play Pitt, and I think that's one of the two teams this year that beat us, if I'm correct. We've lost twice, Nebraska, and I think the other one was to.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Pitt did beat Purdue today. Yeah, and I think one of our two losses is to Pitt. So congratulations, though, to Craig's kid. Only the second final four in the history of the school, and they dominated today one, kind of won every set going away. Who's next? Jeff. Jeff, go ahead, Jeff. Hey, Matt, Jeff and Barson, how are you doing tonight?
Starting point is 00:35:12 What's going on? I'm good. I'm actually a student in the UK and just to answer your original question about Dick Vitale. Dick Vitale is basketball royalty. People have controversial opinions about him. I think he's great. He's awesome. Diper Dandy and all that stuff. But the reason I called tonight was I was actually the student that hit the half court and that was pretty exciting.
Starting point is 00:35:31 Okay, so yeah, you hit the shot. They showed this on ESPN for $10,000. Your celebration was actually muted. I would have thought if I'd hit it I'd have been going crazy Were you expecting to make it? Honestly, I knew it was going in From the very second
Starting point is 00:35:48 I was missing the first two on purpose Actually, it was all scripted You know, you gotta hype up the crowd beforehand And then, all right I got people in back seat You got to do three You got three shots Is that right?
Starting point is 00:36:01 You missed the first two and made the third Yes, sir You gotta miss the first two Pump up the crowd, get the crowd reaction And then swish no backboard No nothing sploosh. Okay, can I tell you the only thing I was disappointed in when I saw it on the replay? If I'm you and I make that shot, how did you not run over and hug Barclay and Vital?
Starting point is 00:36:24 I don't know. Those guys have to be treated with higher respect. I don't want to throw other seats. Fair enough. Fair enough. That's a good answer. So what are you going to do with the money? I have no idea. I honestly am a college students. I'm probably going to end up saving or putting it towards college at least. about $3,000 or maybe a little bit more for your taxes. All right, I don't want you to get a bill at the end of the year and you're not able to pay it. I'm an accounting major trust. I know what that's all about.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Oh, you're good. You didn't need me. Well, congrats. Good, nice shot. Well, done. All right. Thank you. Appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Look about that. Love that. Yeah, that was smooth. Nothing but net. He just held up his hand. Like, he knew that that was good. He was like, Steph, just knew it was going to go in. I would have run over to Barclay.
Starting point is 00:37:10 You know, I've known. Vital for a while, but I've only met Barkley once, and he was very nice, but like that's my dude. I mean, Barkley, Cornheiser, Letterman, like, Stern, those are my guys. And I really wish, I can't believe
Starting point is 00:37:25 he was there tonight. Who's next? Speaking of dudes, Matt, let's give our Johnny Rocker personal injury attorney moneymaker of the game. Injured, get small town compassion with big city results when you call the Rocker at 270321-4429. And tonight was about Moe and Low, but our moneymaker tonight goes
Starting point is 00:37:41 to Brandon Garrison, six points, three of six from the field. He had five rebounds, two of them being offensive rebound, but I thought he brought a necessary energy tonight. He got, you know, sat down for the entire second half last game, could have easily quit, but he came back and showed some toughness. I'm giving him our moneymaker of the game tonight. Is that like your sports announcer voice there? It is. It is. It is, yes, just for one segment. All right. Well, it was very good. And I agree with you. Brandon Garrison, I think you want, look, dude did not play the last 28 minutes of the game against North Carolina Central. Mark Pope said in one of his two post-game comments, I'm not sure which one, but he said
Starting point is 00:38:17 something to the effect of, I rarely lose my temper on guys because I don't think you can do that anymore. Excuse me, but he basically acknowledged that he did it with Brandon Garrison. And it must have worked because that's the best game he's played this year. He played the way he played last year. That's how he played last year when he was playing well. energy, hitting the glass. That's the Brandon Garrison that you really were excited to have come back.
Starting point is 00:38:47 And really, we had not seen it, I think, at all this year until that game. And so that also is a good sign. Who's next? Cadence. Cadence. Go ahead. Cadence. So first what you were saying earlier about the crowd being lit on the broadcast.
Starting point is 00:39:05 I was there. It was incredible. One of the best atmospheres. It was similar to the UNC game, which I was also out. It was pretty nice. Second of all, I agree about Brandon Garrison. I don't think that he could have done anything better than just come on and just absolutely play his butt off, like getting offensive rebounds. We haven't seen that from him this year, and I thought it was big of him to do that.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Yeah, I agree. And so the crowd, I mean, the crowd is a huge part of this because especially kind of, kind of, to start the second half, I think the crowd was a big part of getting the energy to make the run. Crowd was loud. I think it was only Indiana's second true road game. And so anytime these teams go on the road for the first time, we saw this when we went to Louisville. Like, teams get kind of rattled the first time they're on a true road game. And this was only their second.
Starting point is 00:40:00 My guess is that crowd for that Minnesota game wasn't much. So this was probably the first time they had faced a real environment. Yes, sir. And one more thing, I think that when our crowd's getting big, like when we get those points in transition and we're just running up and down the floor, teams can't keep up with us. And that's when we get in the game. And it's just like, just can't stop us. Yep. Appreciate call.
Starting point is 00:40:23 It's another thing, Barclay said, getting transition. And I also think this crowd was cheering effort. I think the effort was so bad against Gonzaga. And it was that the crowd just wanted to see effort. and they got a lot of it tonight. We actually play, Billy, the winner of Texas, Wisconsin tomorrow. So we might play Texas for a third time. And I believe both of those other Texas games have gone to five sets.
Starting point is 00:40:48 So I'm going to pull for Wisconsin tomorrow. But it will probably be Texas. Probably be another Kentucky tag. More Marcus Spears on my screen. Oh, that's right. He was their cheerleader in the stands for that. Well, we've already had one. We've actually already had two watch parties at KS.
Starting point is 00:41:05 bar for Kentucky, Texas. We had, that was our one. So we've had two, and we've won both of them. So let's keep it going. Who's next? Drew. Drew, go ahead, Drew. Hey, Matt, I thought Cam Williams was a very underrated player a day.
Starting point is 00:41:21 Even though he airballed and got posted by Charles Barkley, I feel like he played great defense. That was a really bad shot. What do you think happened on that? That was like, that was a really, really bad shot. But go ahead. he just hasn't hit a three team to hit a three all year it seems
Starting point is 00:41:38 but if that's energy we get from one broken clipboard I say we send Mark Cope all the clipboards he wants I love the energy tonight from all the players and final thing is my favorite Charles and Dickie V moment was when Charles asked Dickie V if Petino wanted championships at Louisville and Dickie B said no I don't know if I think Dick I think Dickie
Starting point is 00:42:02 forgot but it actually kind of worked. You know what I mean? Like, I don't think he was trying to make a joke, but it kind of worked as a joke. So. Yeah, it worked out anyway. It worked out.
Starting point is 00:42:13 So I liked it. I appreciate, uh, appreciate the call. Apparently they're doing one more game to game. I think they're doing one of the, like the first four in the NCAA tournament. I think they're going to do that together as well. But, uh,
Starting point is 00:42:26 all right, let's take a break. 859-280, 2287. We will come back for our final segment. This is the local toy dealer's KSR. post game show. Welcome back. It is the local toy dealers, KSR postgame
Starting point is 00:42:38 show. A couple of the things went on tonight. John Sina lost his final match in the W.W.E. Tapped out. You guys called that, Billy. You called it. Taped out. Yeah, but you go out on your back. Yeah. People were outraged. People were outraged. Don't know anything about wrestling.
Starting point is 00:42:56 You go out of your back. Every major wrestler in history has gone on their back except sting. And everybody widely says that that was the worst decision because they had Sting win his last match and you don't win your last match if it's like planned. Everybody
Starting point is 00:43:11 loses. So now he tapped out. That's a little surprising because, you know, his thing is don't ever give up. And he gave up. Why do you make them lose? Wouldn't you want to give them their flowers for their last match? No, because you go, it's wrestling. You go out on your back
Starting point is 00:43:26 so that you build someone else up. It's like you're paying your dues. Okay. Yeah. You know, you're saying, I'm going to take this rub of my final match and I'm going to give someone else a career boost from it. So they usually have them lose to somebody that is like up and coming. Now, Gunther's not up and coming. He's been around for a long time, but like he'll always be the guy known is ending his career, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:51 So that's why you do it. The Spurs and the just won against the Thunder. So the Spurs and the Knicks will play for the NBA Cup. Do you care about the NBA Cup? I'm just glad the courts will be gone soon. Well, that's Tuesday night, the NBA Cup. Can you tell me who has won the other two NBA Cups? The Lakers won it because they treated it like their Mickey Mouse championship.
Starting point is 00:44:18 They had a couple years ago. The Lakers did win it. Now, can you tell me who won it last year? No. No, is it the Pacers? I think it's Milwaukee. Hmm. See if that's right?
Starting point is 00:44:31 They stink now. The Lakers won the first one. I think it was walking. See if that's right. The Bucks, yeah, 2024. Man, see, I know my NBA Cup. Did I hear you thought I was doing TV for the New Orleans Bowl? Yeah, yeah, at one point.
Starting point is 00:44:52 Why did you think that? I didn't know they had a radio broadcast. I'm not on ESPN TV. Yeah, I'm on the radio. I don't know why. You thought they were just going to advance me to television? I had high hopes for you. Yeah, I thought you had Dave Fleming finally transition.
Starting point is 00:45:08 Never calling a football game in my life, they would put me on television, do it. Yeah, I thought they had the faith in you. But, you know, people were giving me a hard time. I would argue the stats stay the same if I was giving you stats. But you're not going to be able to go, right? No, I can't go. Yeah, so. So now I'm going to have to find a new stats guy.
Starting point is 00:45:29 Yeah. So I'm trying to think. They don't know what they're getting into either. I can't take a rind. You just bring Corey Bryce. Drew's got, Drew's busy. I don't know. Mario's not really a stats guy.
Starting point is 00:45:44 Yeah, I don't know. I guess I'll. And I asked them for. I guess I'll just use one of theirs. The default. Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's a shame.
Starting point is 00:45:52 It would have been nice. But you know what? You're too cool. Well, I can call in. It sounds like you're going to take calls on the broadcast. You should. You should call in. You should call in.
Starting point is 00:46:00 I have takes. Yeah. Who's up next? Brad. Brad, go ahead, Brad. Hey, Matt, the first time in a long time. Who are? What's up? Hey, just great win. We needed that, certainly against rival state.
Starting point is 00:46:16 I wanted to pick your brain on what you meant exactly by the inside presence, how we took advantage of that. I think we played great, and it's good to see Garrison make a great effort, finally. But we were out rebounded by Indiana. It's kind of hard to believe. Yeah, but we were, but that's, I actually think, though, I believe our points in the paint, and our points in the paint and points off transition were a lot,
Starting point is 00:46:42 I believe we had a big advantage on that. I saw the stat at some point during the game. I don't remember what it was. I think they had, let's see, they had, in terms of turnovers, they had 18 turnovers, we only had four. We were out rebounded. That's a huge deal. We were out rebounding.
Starting point is 00:46:59 We had offensive rebounds. We had 14, and they had eight. So, and I think a lot of our offensive rebounds we scored off of. So I think what I, right, I think total rebounds is sometimes a misleading staff, right? Because, you know, and they got some offensive rebounds at the end on long threes, you know, those last few possessions, where they'd shoot a long three, or you shoot a three, it'd be a long rebound. They'd get it, they'd get another three, miss it. But I just felt like we had an advantage.
Starting point is 00:47:30 I mean, Barclay noted that in the first half. And then I think we took advantage of it because I agree. We still didn't shoot the ball that well. I mean, what did we shoot from three? We shot from three. We're 20 percent. And we shot from the field 38 percent. So, I mean, I think the baskets we got around were huge for us.
Starting point is 00:47:50 Yeah, I think we had some great pull-ups. I think first half that effort was poor and I was worried. Second half, I think that we just moved the ball so much better. We did. We did. Transition was there. And I think we needed to run. with the team more.
Starting point is 00:48:03 And I was disappointed. I thought Marino would have had a bigger game, this game, given the size advantage. And he just seemed like he couldn't get going. No, you're right. You're right. I appreciate the call. They shot 26 of 29 from the line.
Starting point is 00:48:19 If they don't shoot 90% from the line, then this game's over. Or to put it another way, if we shot 90% from the line, because we missed 13 free throws. You know, if we shot 90% from the line, just doing the math, we would have won by 20. So they kind of stayed in.
Starting point is 00:48:37 We took more pre-throws, but they made, we took 38. They took 29, but they still made one more than we did. What are you going to say? I was going to say, if you saw Kentucky stats before the game, I don't know if you would have thought they would have won this game. If you saw Kentucky's stats like how it ended? Yeah, like before the game started. You're probably right.
Starting point is 00:48:58 I think that the stat, you know, I've mentioned offensive rebounds, but he makes a good point. Probably the stat that matters the most is they had 18 turnovers and we had four. That Jalen Lowe effect. I mean, only four turnovers in any game is kind of impressive. Brandon Garrison had two of them. So one of them was a teen turnover. So Denzel Aberdeen was the only person besides Garrison on the team with a solo turnover.
Starting point is 00:49:25 That's pretty amazing. That rarely happens. We'll do five more. Matt. Matt, go ahead, Matt. Hey, Matt, prayers of you and your family. First of all, most importantly, the whole state is lifting you guys up. I hope you realize that.
Starting point is 00:49:44 Thank you very much. And I do, I do feel that, and I appreciate it. Second of all, congratulations to the volleyball team. And third of all, I just wanted to share something. My son met Charles Barkley in 2012. we're getting on a cruise. You have to go on a cruise in New Orleans, and he met Charles Barclay, and he was a great guy.
Starting point is 00:50:07 And I thought it was great having them do the game tonight. I've met him once, but I've seen him probably four or five times in public settings, and I've never, this is true, I have never seen him fail to be nice. Actually, both of those guys. If you were to say to me, Matt, who are the three or four people you've seen that are celebrities, who are the unfailing the not unfailingly the nicest to people that come up to them those are two of the four and that's not like i've i've watched them both over the years just be nice to everyone that comes up and i can tell you that's a hard thing to do and those guys
Starting point is 00:50:46 and especially somebody like barclay and dick vital who are insanely famous so you're right they're both really really nice he was great to my son um my son ran across uh he actually ran across the road as Berkeley was heading to the casino, and my son ran across the road, and he was pretty young at the time, and he kind of got grabbed by one of the security guys, but then Charles Buckley was like, oh, oh, it's okay. He talked to him for a minute, and then what he made it better is my son was at a game tonight, so it was pretty awesome. Well, that is awesome. Again, well, thank you, sir. I just want you to know that we're all thinking about you all the time. Appreciate it. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:51:28 As somebody notes, Billy, this is a good point. If you look at their rebounds, nine of them occurred on Miss Kentucky free throws. Oh, that's pretty easy. I mean, that's actually, though, that matters. They out rebounded us by three, but we got only two rebounds off their free throws, and they got, actually not nine, they got 12 rebounds off our miss free throws. So that's 10 of the advantage right there. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:51:57 Carl is next. Carl, go ahead and Carl. Hey, Matt. A couple shoutouts, guys shooting the ball to halftime, man. I think I got the crowd going, got us going in the second half. Second is UK volleyball, man. Are we going to be facing two teams in the final four from the SEC? I mean, shoot, man, we're ruling that.
Starting point is 00:52:21 Yeah, well, we're going to play. We're probably going to end up if we make the finals. We're going to be of Nebraska. I mean, Nebraska is going to be the one. I mean, that's, I watched them play today. They're pretty tough. Yesterday, I guess.
Starting point is 00:52:34 They're pretty tough. Go ahead. Well, I mean, we put it on everybody else in volleyball, but that's right. Is Indiana that good? No. They're not good. Great win today. They're not good.
Starting point is 00:52:47 I mean, Louisville put them in the dirt for a little bit. I just got to finish watching Arizona, Alabama. I mean, Arizona is tough. Number one, we're not in the league, man. We need a point guard. Who is our point guard moving forward? Well, Jalen Lowe is our point guard. I think that's clear.
Starting point is 00:53:05 I mean, he is our point guard. He's the only point guard we have. And he's not perfect, but he's about a thousand times better than our other options. Denzel Aberdeen is he going to play. What's what time? Well, he played tonight. He played 20 minutes. No, he played, I think he played 24 minutes.
Starting point is 00:53:24 He played 16 in the second half. So listen The minutes when he's out, I am worried Because when he's out And when he was hurt We have no ball movement at all on offense But when he plays This team has been
Starting point is 00:53:44 This is what I would say And I appreciate the call This team has been really good In two segments of games Against teams that have any talent We've played five good teams relatively good thing. And we've had two segments of games where we've played well.
Starting point is 00:54:02 And in both segments of those games, Jalen Lowe has been the driving factor. That is why I've said since the summer, this team will go as far as how he plays. He doesn't necessarily have to be the best player, but he is the, we will go the way he goes. And that's why I think he's so important. And we have to keep him from getting hurt.
Starting point is 00:54:26 When he dove Billy into the thing, I was like, no, no. Okay, I like the ever, but no. Okay. Because if he gets hurt, it's over. I mean, we can't. We have to have him. Everybody else, like, Diavate is great to have. But we can't.
Starting point is 00:54:41 We have to have him. We don't have a point guard otherwise. By the way, you'll see St. John's, that's their problem. They don't have a point guard either. Three more. Who's next? Jay. Jay.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Go ahead, Jay. Hey, Matt. Just wanted to echo what everyone's saying. for you, what you're all going through with your family. Always tough. Just one of those quick hitters here as you get to the end, basketball, volleyball, and American end. I think on basketball, I think we'll be okay
Starting point is 00:55:12 as long as we get healthy and stay healthy. Yeah. I think we'll be all right. And as far as Kentucky, Indiana go, Joe B's greatest win was beating them, in the 75 Mid-East regional final in Dayton. It even surpassed the national championship. Well, I mean, they said that.
Starting point is 00:55:34 Barkley and Vital talked about that game, and it is kind of amazing. Indiana lost one game in two years, and it was that game. That's true. We kept them from back-to-back undefeated national championships. That's unbelievable. Doing the Lord's work. And a lot of people think the 75 team was better
Starting point is 00:55:55 than the one that went undefeated in 76. By that time of the year, they won't get into all the John Wood and crap and how that worked out. But anyway, volleyball, I went to the match today. I'm 64 years old. That was one of the greatest in-person UK events ever went to. That's awesome. And on top of the win, stood in line to get in before the match with Todd Spoboda, and he was just as awesome as awesome as I figured he would be. So that was cool.
Starting point is 00:56:25 Good. Nice guy. Yeah. And the American, the fried chicken there is the bomb. It's really good. But if you go, get the pork-crusted, the con-crusted pork tenderloin, it's indiscredibly good. It's so good.
Starting point is 00:56:46 So that's it. Well, I appreciate it. Thank you, sir. And Mary King could not pay for this kind of publicity tonight. Right. Websites down, yeah. I mean, the website's down. Like, they couldn't pay for this kind of publicity.
Starting point is 00:57:00 By the way, cool that UK had shuttles that went from the volleyball game to Rupp. I didn't know they were going to do that, but that's a cool thing they did. Two more. Who's next? Tyler. Tyler, go ahead, Tyler. What's up, Matt? I live in Indiana.
Starting point is 00:57:16 I hate IU, so I'm really glad that we got that. We don't have to hear from any fans. Well, there got one the Heisman tonight, so they can, you know, they can take a loss to us. That's right. I have young kids that play sports, and the things that I always tell them are, like, I don't need you to be an all-star, but I need all-star effort. And I feel like we saw that tonight. You know, nobody stood out necessarily as, like, dropping 25 on Indiana,
Starting point is 00:57:44 but the fighting for rebounds, the all-star effort, I love that. I totally agree with you. And they gave it the whole game, even when they played poorly. Yeah, they did. Lastly, I would like to thank Louisville for giving us an exciting football coach. And they've also given me my wife, who is a U of L dancer, who gave me my kids and they're all Kentucky fans. So thanks, Louisville.
Starting point is 00:58:10 Well, good. Well, congrats to you and your wife. I appreciate the call. By the way, we should know, since you mentioned Will Stein, he hired three coaches today, added to his staff. Cutter Leftwich, which means we have another coach named Cutter, or another person on the team named Cutter. What are the chances there would be two cutters on a roster when you count player and coach?
Starting point is 00:58:38 Probably never happen. Probably not. Cutter, Lefwich, who was the Oregon offensive line coach, Houston Safety's Coach, Josh Christian Young, and I can't remember the other guy's name. But he hired three coaches today. I think maybe the wide receiver coach from UTSA, which is where he was where he was before Oregon. One more.
Starting point is 00:59:01 Who's next? Brian. Brian, go ahead, Brian. Hey, Matt. Energy tonight was great at the game. I just think that the crowd was awesome. It's fitting out on the last call, so I want you to do something. You've got to send something back to damn dockage.
Starting point is 00:59:20 That's all I got. What did he say? Did he say something? Oh, no, just from a couple weeks ago. Oh, well, let me say this about Dan Dochage. I'm not over the years having on many different occasions, not a huge Dan Dockage fan on a lot of levels. But I will say this about Dan Dockage.
Starting point is 00:59:45 When I put out the thing about my dad, he sent me a nice note, Twitter, or excuse me, a nice text, which, you know, he didn't have to do. So there are things more important sometimes in sports, and I think it's good to know that even a guy, even after all the stuff over the years with him, he was nice enough to do that. But I appreciate you calling, sir, and it gave me a chance to say that,
Starting point is 01:00:14 because I meant to say that on the air the other day. Thank you all very much for listening. I will be up again in the morning doing ESPN with Myron, and everybody have a safe ride for the rest of you going home. Cats with a huge win as they renew the rivalry against Indiana and get a big victory. Play again on Saturday against St. John's. This has been the local Toyota dealers, KSR, post-game show.
Starting point is 01:00:53 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and headwriter Streeter, Idle help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform?
Starting point is 01:01:13 We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Starting point is 01:02:21 Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker.
