Welcome, everyone.
This is the local toy dealers KSR postgame show.
The Cats with a strong win tonight against the Lipscomb Bisons, 9768.
Kentucky led from start to finish.
only tied once at two to two big lead early, kept it the whole game and gets the victory.
You can give us a shout.
We'll go ahead and open it up.
859-280-2287.
Really two main things about the game.
First of all, the game itself, it was nice to see Jackson Robinson get back on track.
I think that was the thing that clearly Kentucky wanted to focus on after maybe not the best game against
Duke, he ends up being the leading score, has 20 points, six for 10 from the field.
Another great game for O'A, O'A, O'A, O'A, O'A, O'A, O'EGa, O'O'A, O'EGa, O'EGtega, only played 15 minutes and had 14 points.
15 minutes, 15 points.
Lamont Butler goes six for six from the field and has 16 points.
So for me, those three guys obviously stuck out the most.
But the great thing about this team is you can even point to other guys and say,
okay, Kobe Brea, three for three from three.
He is now 16 of 19 for the year from three.
He's shooting 83% from 3.1.
That's pretty good.
I don't know for sure.
I will guess that leads the country.
I also think that would be a record if you were to finish like that,
probably by about 30 percentage points.
When he's open, it's the most money of money shots.
I wonder if we'll see him miss a wide open one all year.
I'm sure he will.
I haven't seen it happen yet.
The three missed, I think I can remember two of them were kind of contested.
So I bet they all three were.
So those are the four people that, if you look at the stat line,
are most impressive.
But then, of course, Mark Pope made an interesting point at the end.
The person who played the most minutes, you look and you say,
okay, well, Andrew Carr only had two points in 25 minutes,
one for five from the field.
You go, well, okay, Andrew was a little off tonight.
But then Mark Pope made the point.
that in plus minus, he had the highest plus minus on the team, plus 29.
Now, there are people who will tell you plus minus is overrated,
and that may be true a little bit, but I do think it says a lot over the course of a year,
and that is now at least two of the four games where he's had the highest plus minus.
I don't remember the other two, but I know he had it in the Duke game and in this game.
So that's at least two in a row.
So, you know, you look at this and it's just one guy after another playing well, you know,
and that is really exciting.
You get my favorite dude, Almanor, gets six points.
Brand Garrison, eight points.
There's just, it's just everywhere you go, you see players playing well.
And I thought tonight, as odd as it sounds for a team that had 97 points and shot 54% from the feet,
I actually think they could have played better offensively.
They probably, I thought the first half were a little bit stagnant offensively.
Pope said that at the end as well.
But that's the on-court story.
I think the more interesting thing tonight to me were three things that were said in the post-game press conference.
I have to tell you, I had gotten to the point in recent years where, like, I just,
I didn't even listen to the post-game press conferences.
Nobody ever said anything.
I would just sit here with Billy and wonder when Cal was going to finish so that we could finally go on the air.
And sometimes it would be a long time.
If we won, Billy would be like a half an hour.
If we lost, it would be like four minutes.
That's right.
Mark Pope's comments like, I'm going to listen to all of them.
But it wasn't just Pope.
So let's start.
Let's go back to the first one, which was Jackson Robinson, who was talking on the television broadcast.
Which, by the way, shout out Travis Ford.
I thought he did a great job tonight.
Like really, really good.
He could do that if he wants.
He can be a color commentator for college basketball if he wants to do it
instead of get back into coaching.
But he, in the interview with him, he said,
I feel like he was talking about the Duke game.
Remember, a game we want.
He said, I felt like I let down my team in BBM with my body language.
Notice he didn't say with his play, but with his body language.
And, you know, that's clearly something somebody had said to him
and he took responsibility for it.
That's a really a veteran, a real veteran thing, and I like that a lot.
Second, the Lipscomb coach, Lipskin's good program,
I think they went to the NIT finals or Final Four a couple years ago.
The Lipscomb coach said, you know, we play a lot of Power Five schools here.
They do.
They probably play four or five a year.
That's, you know, basically how schools like Lipscomb fund their programs.
He said we play a lot of Power Five schools.
and he said this is the best Power 5 offense that we've played.
I think what he means by that is there may be offenses that are equally as efficient,
but much less talented.
But as far as just efficient offenses, the best he's played.
And when you think about that for at least a half, I'm not sure.
I mean, we only had 10 assists.
He didn't even get to necessarily see the best version of it.
He basically said if you make one mistake, you give up an open 30.
that's also pretty exciting from a coach that's very smart and been coaching for 30 years
but then the third thing is was mark pope's interview there with uh with with with tom leach
some of these quotes i mean like i'm not telling you all that listen to this anything you don't
know but like billy don't tell anybody but i'm a little bit of a of a dork and a nerd is that
right you don't tell anybody i i don't think people know that but like
It is true.
And it is nice.
I feel like we have an inner nerd as a coach.
And I really, really appreciate it.
I'm just going to read you a couple of these quotes.
First of all, he was asked by Tom if he and his coaches were worried about a letdown game,
you know, after the Big Duke with.
And he said, quote, we don't stress.
We don't worry.
We don't get nervous because it doesn't actually help.
Billy, that's the most profound thing you'll hear today outside of sports.
Yeah.
That's exactly right.
Like, we don't stress, we don't worry, we don't get nervous because it doesn't actually help.
Now, of course, in some ways, that's easier said than done.
But it's also completely true.
Like, if you can't do anything about it, you let it go, right?
You don't have a choice.
You can't sit there and worry about it.
not worrying is not going to change anything.
Let's say hypothetically, Billy, there's a big event in the country
where something like a news story or an election happens
and you don't get the result you want.
Oh, yeah.
You can't worry about it.
What are you going to do?
Yeah, I can't change anything.
Can't change anything.
So I like that.
But then I like this one even more.
They asked him about preparing and they said something to the effect of
were you going to warn your team about a let-now?
this is
I wrote this is as close to the direct quote as I can get
because I you know I was trying to write while he was talking
he said quote
the neuroscience is 100% behind this
we don't spend any time talking about what we don't want to have happen
we only talk about what we're trying to do
the neuroscience is 100% conclusive
focus on what you want to have happen
not the opposite
First of all, how many college basketball coaches in America, Billy, you think have ever uttered the word neuroscience?
Not a ton.
I am sitting here trying to think of any coach that I'm aware of that has come through Rup Arena that would use the word neuroscience.
Yeah, not many.
I don't know.
I can't think of one.
I'm sure there's some one.
I'm sure Mark's not the only nerd.
but there's someone, but there aren't many.
So he's out here, quote, neuroscience.
This is game four against Lipscomb,
and he's out here quote neuroscience.
And he says, we don't spend any time talking about
what we don't want to have happen.
We only talk about what we're trying to do.
The science is conclusive.
That's what you focus on.
That's also not just in basketball.
That's great life advice.
Like, don't spend your time trying to make something not happen.
Spend your time trying to make something happen.
That makes complete sense to me.
And really, I'm not sure I've thought about it like that.
So here's a post-game basketball quote from which you get two, like, actually really good life advice comments.
And it wasn't like Tony Robbins' like preachy stupid stuff.
It's actually real, you know, real intelligent theory.
But before you think this is too hide-minded, I'll go to his final quote.
because you can tell a lot by the way coaches say things and what they say.
He said, he ended the interview by going,
we have a chance to be a really great team,
and I'm really excited about it.
Now that's not, as they would say, Billy, highfalutin language,
a really great team, and I'm really excited.
But you know what?
Coaches don't say that unless they're good.
You know, Cal over the years.
You could tell by about game seven or eight
whether or not he really thought the team was any good.
Coaches know, right?
They know what they have.
We're four games in the year.
My guy saying we could be a really great team.
Not a great team, a really great team.
I don't know, maybe we underestimated this group.
And by we, I mean me, like, is this a group that can, like, really do something?
Why not?
They've won every game by 30 points and beating Duke.
No, it's hard not to get excited.
I'm trying, Billy, to not, you know, not getting myself too hyped up.
I don't want to do that because you don't want to let down.
But I'm not going to worry about it.
You know why?
Because he told me not to.
Yeah, I can't think of that.
And I am excited about this group.
This group is fun to watch.
They play a style that's visually appealing.
They play for the name on the front.
of the uniform and they really play hard.
And that's not going to win every game,
but that's going to win a lot of games.
And this is,
you ask long-time fans and you say,
well, what was your favorite team?
You'll get a lot of answers.
Usually it coincides with teams that were champions.
But for me, an underrated favorite team.
My favorite teams are probably 92, 2015, 2010.
but the fourth one of that group was 2003, the tubby team that was number one overall seed.
Bogans gets hurt.
We lose to Marquette.
That team, I can sit here and read you the players on that team.
Hawkins, Fitch, Hayes, Daniels, Estel, Bogans, Barber.
You go, well, Keith Mogan's was really good, but, you know, rest of that group.
They were all solid, but the hole was greater than some of the parts.
And that was kind of what made that team so fun to cheer for it,
because you knew what you were getting collectively,
it was better than what you would get individually.
This team kind of gives me those vibes.
That team, you remember, used to blow people out.
And I don't know, this team has a little bit of that 03-tubby thing.
Maybe Jackson Robinson can be Bogans,
but you know they were games.
Fitch lettuce.
Hawkins hit game.
winning shots. Estelle could be dominant sometimes. Hayes was a warrior.
I don't know. Maybe there's a little bit of that in this group as well.
859-280-2287. We'll take your calls, take a break. Another great win for Kentucky.
The start of the BBN invitational while the tournament feeling you could get in that arena.
We'll be right back. This is the local toy dealers, KSR post-game show.
Welcome back. It is the local toy dealers KSR post-game show.
Purdue leads Mark, or excuse me, Marquette leads Purdue, 39, 32 in the second half,
a chance for a top 10 team to go down, you know, because we're number nine.
Every time a top 10 team loses, you can sit there and go, oh, we're moving up, moving up.
So probably pulling for Marquette here to get the home win against Purdue.
Louisville won against Bellarmine, who was without their best player,
but otherwise a pretty slow night in college basketball.
Well, next week is the big week in college basketball.
Next week is you get the Maui Invitational and you get the Bahamas,
you get all the Nike things.
So a lot of big games next week.
But we will be in the BBM Invitational,
which, of course, is the most prestigious of all.
Western next week.
Western.
What, is that Tuesday night?
That's Tuesday night, yeah.
Are you nervous about that?
You think Western can give them a game at all?
I'd love to be the one to tell you that,
but I don't know who's going to stop this Kentucky team,
and I don't think it's Hank.
Well, somebody will.
Somebody's going to.
somebody's going to win.
I think we'll lose to Gonzaga on the road.
Make that long drive out there for the first loss of the year?
That's all right. It's all right.
Actually, I'm trying to think.
I've attended a lot of road losses.
But I've also attended some pretty amazing road wins.
I mean, I was at the game where Malik Monk had, what, 47 or whatever he had against
what was it, 41 maybe, the game against North Carolina,
then the game with Oscar and Severe, where they had such a good game against North Carolina.
I was at Tyrese Maxi's Champions Classic game
where he went off against Michigan State.
So I've seen some pretty amazing performances.
But I was also at the Ohio State loss in Madison Square Garden.
I was at the Champions Classic loss to Duke
and Champions Classic loss to Michigan State.
So I've had some bad ones too.
All right, who's up first?
Let's start with Eli.
Eli, how are you, Eli?
I'm good.
First time, medium time.
What's up?
So great game.
I was at the game one way home down.
But all the people saying that Travis and Trent should play more,
I think those last six minutes kind of prove why they shouldn't.
Well, I mean, look, the problem for those guys and the problem for sort of the bottom group is two things.
One, they have a hard time generating offense because they,
because they're young. But the other thing is really defensively.
I mean, you heard Mark say in the last five minutes,
you know, Lipscomb ended up shooting about 65% from the field those last five minutes.
So I think defensively is as much of an issue for those guys as scoring is towards the end.
I just think they'll be good in a year or two, but right now I just don't think.
Yeah, well, listen, I don't know how people, I appreciate the call.
I mean, if Kentucky was losing, like I would understand.
those comments.
But who do you want to take out?
Like who are you trying to not play?
I mean, you could make an argument that there are dudes not getting to play enough.
Like, Kirk Creasa can't find a way in, even though I think he's really good.
But like, who are you going to take out?
Oway Butler and Robinson are a heck of a back court.
Then when you have Crea coming in off the bench, I mean, Chandler would play for
most teams, 95% of teams in the country, and he can't get in.
So, you know, Almanor was a starter on a team that beat a one seat in the NCAA tournament,
and he's our ninth man.
Like, it's just, this is a really deep team.
Who's next?
You mentioned Chandler.
He had the play of the night, don't you think?
Oh, that was a great play.
I was certain he was out of between the legs.
Yeah, I mean, good for it.
Listen, that made the highlight real there.
That was awesome.
Like, I've got to love that hustle.
He's going to be good.
By the way, I think he's going to be really good.
I don't think it's going to be this year, but I think like next year when you're looking at the roster and we're saying, okay, well, O'A, maybe back, Garrison, blah, blah, you need to pencil Chandler into play next year because he's going to be good.
Nathan is next.
Nathan, go ahead, Nathan.
Yeah, I mean, I think tonight it's like, it's kind of like Mr. Biagi.
Like he tried to get everybody focused.
and I think they got a bunch of Danielsons on there.
Okay.
So you like a little wax on, wax off?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, it's been, it's been fun to watch, man.
You said focusing earlier, and that's the first thing I thought.
He was like, Mr. Miyagi.
Mr. Miyagi, there you go.
I appreciate the call.
Yeah.
Mark Miyagi.
Been a while since I've seen Karate Kid.
but I do remember he was a person of focus, a little Zen view.
Listen, it's clear the sort of sports psychology component of the way Pope approaches this.
That's a big part of it to him.
There's no doubt about that.
That is a big part of how he looks at all of this.
And it's clearly working so far, and I don't see any reason why it won't continue.
Who's next?
Chris.
Chris, go ahead, Chris.
Hey, can you hear me, Matt?
I can hear you.
All right, I'm going to read something real quick.
There was nothing more important than being on the team.
He created a culture and identity and a style of we have a collective sense of effort and purpose,
and we're going to get this done.
I made a comparison Wednesday on the pre-show to Pope to John Wooden.
I don't mean championships.
I mean, setting the culture, his leadership style, and his mindset.
Just like you were saying, he's an intellectual.
He is like John, he's Woodenesque in those factors.
I'm not saying we're going to win all those championships, maybe a couple,
but I really do think Pope is one of one and woodenesque.
I'll hang up.
Wow, I love it.
Well, I appreciate the call.
You know, Wooden was like a great from people who know him was like a very kind man who was like sort of a silent, yeah, culture builder, et cetera.
I don't think Mark's very silent.
But I also think he's like, he combines some of that.
Like I have to tell you, just on a personal level, a lot of people who sort of live their lives by motivational quotes, I find to be really cheesy and I sort of roll my eyes at it.
But his are not based on, you know, again, a saying that you get in a calendar when you rip it off every day.
His are like based on science.
I mean, when he talks about not just the neuroscience, but talks about why they do that.
Like he said at that one point tonight, he was like, the number for us is 39%.
We want to hold the teams we play to under 39%.
Well, I went there and looked, Billy.
first gate right state was 35 okay but now uh was 39 exactly duke was 38.6 and lipscomb was 38.8.
Hmm. So 39% is their number and guess what? They come pretty close to it every time. So that'll be
something to kind of watch as the year goes on. Look at the field goal percentage. You know,
are you shooting? Are they holding the team to 39?
percent or less because the way I think Pope's theory is the way they play because they're going to
shoot so many shots and threes and they're going to play so quickly as long as they don't get up to
43 44 Kentucky's going to win a lot more than they're going to lose and I think that's the way
they look at it. The new rule of 71 in the analytics age is what Pope. Yeah there's no.
Rule 71 I don't know if that's going to, although it's four and oh so far this game this year,
but I don't know if it's going to stay. Well now it's 39% from the other team.
Who's up next?
Trey go ahead, Trey.
Hey, what's up, Matt?
What's going on?
Got two things here.
First one is, man, it got the wheels turning in my head tonight when I saw Jacks come back and play a really good ball game, which I was glad to see him put up 20 points.
But the thing that got my wheels turning in my head was, man, if going back to the Duke game,
your best player scored, I think, did he score one point on Kentucky?
One point.
You had one point.
One point.
Okay.
Super Flagg scores one point on Duke.
Is Duke even in that ball game?
Yeah, they're right.
They have no chance.
That would be true any game.
Any game this year, any game this year where Cooper Flagg scores won, they're losing by 15.
That is a testament to our debt.
I mean, we really have it.
And then the second thing is, so I live here.
You know, on that point, before you get to second thing, I want you to think about Kentucky.
On that point about your second thing, I want to just take a second.
Let's assume, because I do agree with you, Jackson Robinson is our best player.
We had a caller today say he thought it was like our fourth best player.
He's our best player.
Now, I don't think he's definitively our best player like I thought he was before the year,
but he is our best player.
So let's go through like Kentucky teams and think about the Kentucky teams of recent years
how they would have done if their best player had one point.
So like last year, how many games we win in if Antonio Reeves has one point?
The two years before that, how many games we win it if Oscar has one point?
You know, even go before, even go, John Wall, Brandon Knight, Anthony Davis,
Nerlands Noel, I mean, you saw it happen with Nerlands when he went out for the year, right?
Julius Randall.
Yeah, I mean, you could go through all of them.
We ain't winning a lot of games if our best player only has one point.
And then on this team, our best player had one point and we beat Duke.
You're right.
That's a very good sign.
Yeah.
No, it was good to see him get back in order.
The second thing, so I live here in St. Louis, Missouri.
And I miss the, I don't know, like the first two and a half minutes, three minutes of the first half at Kip.
And I get on the telecast, and I'm like, man, that the color commentator sounds really,
really familiar. Who is that guy? Well, he started talking about the 92
team and about Kobe Brea being a nightmare
coaching against them last year. I'm like, oh, my God,
that's Travis Ford from Slu and sure as heck, it is. And man,
he did an awesome, awesome job. I thought he was great. I thought he was great.
It's interesting. You call him not Travis Ford from Kentucky,
Travis Ford from Slew. So like, he's Slew to you.
Well, I mean, it is what it is, but, you know, he's a lifelong cat.
But yeah, no, I'm not much of a slew fan, but it was just crazy to see that.
Yeah, that's true.
I appreciate the call.
I'm not sure that I noticed that he said that about Kobe Braille, but that makes sense.
Yeah, he would have coached against him last year with Dayton.
So, yeah, he would know.
Well, man, he's got a pretty shot.
I remember, you know, we've had this debate over the years.
We talked about it with Antonio and Reed some last year.
And then what's his name before that?
Kellen Grady and then Chimal Murray, we've said it about over the years.
But if they're open, do you know it's going in?
I don't know.
Is Kobe Brea the best at that?
I know it's only four games in, but like who do you feel more money about when they're open than him?
Yeah, not many.
I mean, the one three he hit against the zone.
I mean, I knew it was in as soon as he shot it.
Yeah.
And the one where he kind of pumped fake, the guy went flying.
Went flying, yeah.
Yeah, it's like, you just kind of know that's going in.
That's a layup.
I mean, I think that's what Travis Ford said.
It's a layup, and it kind of feels like it.
Who's next?
Grant.
Grant.
Go ahead, Grant.
Hey, Matt.
First time, a long time.
Who are?
A couple years ago, my brother was getting married, so I brought him up to Lexington for his best
party. We did the whole bourbon tour stuff. And then to watch the game at night against
Auburn, we came to your restaurant. And we rolled in late. You guys were packed, and we had
10 people. And you made it work. You gave us a spot up by the stage and the stage itself,
and we had a blast. So I want to thank you for that. Now I owe you an apology for the same night.
At the very end of the evening, things are wrapping up. I came to find you and said,
hey, we're going to get out of your way so you can do the postgame show. You said,
no worries. Stay where you are. I'll just scoot in a little bit. So we did.
And then I got a text from my wife.
And she says, your brother didn't throw up outside of KS Bar, did he?
Oh, I do remember that guy.
Yes.
That was bad.
And I turned to my right thinking he was next to me, and I looked over and it was empty seats.
And I don't know if you noticed, but I just disappeared after that.
I noticed we had to clean that up.
I remember that.
Yeah.
And by outside, I think she met on the patio.
I don't think it was all the way outside.
I think it was.
He didn't tell me that.
But you know what?
That's all right.
It's all right.
No big deal.
But he made up for it.
He came down to Atlanta with me, and we went to the Duke game, and I screened my lungs out,
and I still don't have a voice from Tuesday.
So anyway, I appreciate your kindness up there.
We were there.
No problem.
Thank you.
859-28027.
I remember that guy.
You know, we've had that bar now for seven years.
So when you remember a certain person, that means something, Billy.
Must have left a mark, yeah.
I do, I remember that guy.
859280-2-807.
Let's take a break, and we will return.
This is the local toy dealers, KSR, Post-Game Show.
Welcome back.
It is the local toy dealers KSR Post-Game Show.
859-2-8-2-287.
Text machine is 772-7-7-4-5-254.
One person writes,
My husband and I are sitting here listening to the Post-Game show.
My husband is drinking a girl.
glass of milk, I can't believe I'm married to a psychopath.
Salute.
Sorry about that.
I hate that you're married to a psychopath, but, you know, just watching.
That's all I'm saying.
Again, it's not the, it's not, Billy, that everyone that drinks milk is a psychopath.
But I think the amount of people that are psychopaths that drink milk is 100%.
Well, maybe you're right about that.
Yeah.
I, as a proud milk drinker myself, I'm here to say I'm not a serial killer, though.
But I said on the show today, if you were to read the headline, KSR member has secret life as serial killed.
I think most people would agree you first, that you would be their first guess.
Yeah, I don't know about that.
You know, I thought Shannon might defend me.
He says, no, that's perfect.
Well, then who would you say?
Who would you put?
Who do you think is most likely of the group?
You know, we've said the nicest person on KSR is also the meanest.
So you think Ryan would be the most life? Maybe he's lived a double life and he's the actual serial killing.
He gets the, well, you get angry too. You and you and Ryan get the angriest.
The one that would surprise me the most of all six of us is Mario.
Yeah. Mario would know what to do.
That would be the most surprise. Whoa, shots fired.
859-28027. Who's up next?
Jordan.
Jordan. Go ahead, Jordan.
First of all that, milk is a mess.
So either red top milk or chocolate milk is amazing.
Okay, but again, that's not milk.
You're talking about sugar.
Basically, when you're getting chocolate milk, you're saying what you like is chocolate.
I'm talking about bareback milk.
All right, that's fair enough.
So let's get basketball now.
We'll scratch the milk conversation.
So it feels amazing to sit back and watch Kentucky run set.
They're bringing their big men up to the top of the key.
everybody's moving.
It's not an isolation move like a Calipari offense.
I've watched a terrible offense for 15 years.
And now we're seeing movement.
People are getting open.
Everybody's got a shot at all time.
This team is so much fun.
I know Calipari had fun teams,
but this might be the funnest team I've seen in probably 20 years.
Might be.
I mean, you know, again, fun.
I agree.
I mean, I,
Are you old enough to remember the 03 team?
I am.
I'm 35.
That's who they remind me of.
And that team was a lot of fun, right?
I mean, I would encourage younger fans, go watch, I think it's on YouTube,
the 03 Kentucky Florida game.
And I contend that some of the best basketball
Kentucky team has ever played, the first half of that Kentucky Florida game.
Second half, they were up like 20.
But Florida was number one in the country,
and they came in and we were,
up 25 at half time.
And the way they played, I think, is a lot like this team plays.
That team was elite defensively.
This team might be better offensively than that team.
But they're both like, like they can just put spurts on people.
And what's funny is I still don't think we've seen this team play their best yet.
I think they've played really well.
But I think they're still like, like we're going to beat somebody good by 30 this year at Rupp.
and it's going to be fun to watch.
It's going to be a Jackson Robinson game whenever we do it.
The thing that's fun about this team is everybody can hit threes.
Jackson Robinson has still not showed his true potential yet this year.
It's something, I think he's waiting for a big game.
Lamont Butler tonight hitting the two quick threes to start the game.
You weren't ready for that.
Nobody was ready for that.
He's not been hitting threes all year.
But that just shows what Mark Pope has in this team, what he's doing with this team.
It's one of the, every, the players.
and this team loved being here.
Mark Pope just has the environment and everything put together.
I think this is going to be a fan favorite for years to come.
Yeah.
I appreciate the call.
That, you know, Billy, are you, are you too young to remember the O3 team?
I am, yes.
Oh, my goodness.
That's crazy to me.
That was eight.
You were eight?
Yeah.
Okay.
So, like, somebody wrote me in and they said, okay, Matt, rank your,
top 10 favorite teams. I'd have to think about that. But for me, probably goes 92, number one,
2010 to 2015-3-03-0-34. And then five can go a lot of different ways. And I could see this one slotting in there
if they keep playing like this, just because of all the good mojo around it. I don't like
I'll ever like a team like I like the 92 team
and probably the 2010 team.
But who knows?
Maybe we'll have this conversation at the end
and this one will be like number three.
Who's up next?
Cooper.
Cooper. Go ahead, Cooper.
I just got home from the UK game
and I saw a stat that said that
they are the first UK team
in UK history to make 10 threes
in their first four games.
Yeah, what do you think about that?
Cooper, that's crazy, isn't it?
Yeah, it seems so unrealistic.
How old are you, Cooper?
11.
All right, so Cooper, 11 years old.
When I was 11, the basketball team, they stunk that year.
So I didn't get to have the year that you're having here.
So you tell me, Cooper, give me your breakdown of this team so far this year.
So far, my favorite player is probably,
Jackson Robinson or
Otega O'Way
and I think
their best
chance to score is when the other team's playing
his own defense if they get the ball
to Kobe Bray is always going to be wide open
in that.
You're already, you're already better
out of than Billy.
Thank you very much, Cooper.
Appreciate your call.
Do you like milk, Cooper?
Yeah, I love it.
See, but he's 11.
That's a perfect age.
for milk. Keep drinking milk.
Do me your favor, Cooper. When you get to be 18,
don't drink it anymore, okay?
I think about it.
All right, thank you, Cooper.
I appreciate the call.
I like Cooper.
That's the kind of sass you need from a future
radio home. That was a good kid call.
He had stats. That was. Good kid call.
See, you don't like kids. Cooper's why you should
like kids. They're our future. Who's next?
We have another Jordan.
Jordan. How are you, Jordan? 859-280-2287.
well, Matt. How are you doing, buddy? Doing good. So I want to call this out. First of all,
the O3 team, if you recall that senior night game against Vandy, they at one point time,
they were up, I think, what, was it 42 at one point in the first half? I remember that game.
The first half, that team, the first halves, there were three games that year where they played a
first half that's as good of basketball as you're going to see. Florida, Georgia, Georgia was top
10 that year. People don't really remember.
And we did the same thing to them.
And then that Vandy game,
we were up 40 in the first half.
Azabuki had a dunk that you're
still going to have a hard time convince me it in the
greatest dunk of all time.
It's definitely out there.
And honestly, you actually have made a good point.
But I was one to talk about that clip
that UK, the social media
group put out with Mark Popen, the coaching.
But, you know, you said something about
Azabuki, so I'll kind of say that part.
Does Otega Owe not remind you of
a version of as a booking in terms of how he's built and just how physical he plays but can still
make that open shot. He's a lot more physical than I think I realized to be honest with you
when the year started. You're right. I mean, he is, and I appreciate to call, I mean,
15 minutes, 14 points. He had a little bit of foul trouble in the first half. You know, he's been
for, you know, I was saying during the off season all year that I thought we were kind of one
player short.
But it may be that O.A.
was that player and I just didn't know he was that good.
Because in my mind, I thought, okay, Robinson's
the best player, Butler's going to be really good,
Carr's going to be really good,
Braille make threes,
got a couple bigs, but we're
one player short. Well, if
Owe ends up being really good,
maybe that's your player right there.
And then
Kerr kind of gives you what
I thought Oway would, and all of a sudden
you have the makings of a team that can
really, really do something.
Who's next?
Cathead.
Cathead.
What's up?
Hey, guys.
You talk about the raw milk.
And Matt, I'm from Knox County, so you know where that's at.
Of course.
My grandparents used to keep goat milk in a refrigerator, and that was terrible.
Was it raw?
Was it raw?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Go out and milk it and put it in a jar and put it in a refrigerator.
But, yeah, that's probably why I don't like milk.
milk right now.
Well, you're smart.
People in Knox County know what they're doing.
You, not your parents.
They didn't know.
But go ahead.
Right, right.
So what I want to call about is this year so far has been so much fun.
Mark Pope has put energy in here.
It's fun to watch.
And I just wanted to say that I'm having a hard time, not hard time, but I'm still learning
the players, right?
I understand that.
I'm still enjoying the name on the front.
Yep.
So we're still rooting just as hard as we are.
I'm trying to learn the players, and I will learn players.
But I just want to say it will be really fun to go to Nashville this year
and, you know, hope that we can win some games, possibly win the tournament,
and then Ryan and Drew can get another great go-kart.
golf cart to run around Nashville in.
I love it.
I love it.
Appreciate the call.
You're exactly right.
Yeah.
It's going to be,
I mean,
there's a lot of things that the last few years
haven't been as fun that are going to be fun this year.
Like the,
you know,
the home game Saturdays during conference play,
those can be,
they're going to be great.
We've got,
I think Alabama and Arkansas coming in here on Saturdays.
That's going to be,
think about how much fun those Saturdays are going to be,
even the Louisville Saturdays.
coming up here in a few weeks.
The SEC tournament is going to be an absolute blast.
You know, this has just such a chance to be such a reinvigorating, you know,
reinvigorating season.
By the way, the only people, Billy, crazier than the people who drink milk or the people
who drink raw milk.
Yeah, I can't say that's me.
I know.
I was thinking about this.
at least two famous people that drink raw milk.
And then there's like two people I know in my regular life.
And one of them may even be listening now.
And you know, I love you.
But all of them are kind of off that rocker a little bit.
Right.
Yeah.
I mean, like when you have the ability to not,
like when you voluntarily say,
I'm going to go back 200 years in technology
and drink the things that used to kill people,
to me that's an odd decision.
What about the farmers across this great commonwealth, Matt?
What would you tell them?
Keep making their milk for children, cereal, and other dairy products.
Just don't drink it.
Just don't have adults drink it.
And if they're drinking it raw, put them in prison.
Who's next?
Todd is next.
Todd, go ahead, Todd.
Hey, what's my bad?
What's going on?
I mean, I'm 45, you know, I grew up into Eddie Sudden era, but I haven't seen Kentucky basketball like this in years.
What do you mean?
I mean, Pope just gets it.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, he does.
He's Kentucky basketball.
Somebody said to me a few days ago that they think Pope combined.
the best of Rick and Tubby, meaning like Rick's style of play and excitement, but Tubby's kind
personality. Do you agree with that? Yeah, I do. And I mean, he just, I mean, how do you get
15 players to come together to play like they have played in the last four games? Yeah, it's been
great. It's been great. Appreciate the call. Marquette is going to beat Purdue, it looks like. Billy,
The Cam Jones of Marquette has 11 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists.
One assist away from a triple double.
The last person to get a triple double for Marquette, do you know who that is?
Dwayne Wade.
Dwayne Wade against that Kentucky team in 2003 in the elite eight.
So I kind of hope he gets the other assists so that they'll never show that stat again.
because that's amazing.
In 21 years, that's the last time they had a triple double.
Guys got a chance one more assist to get it tonight.
We'll take a break.
It is 859-2802287.
Who are the only three triple doubles in UK history, Billy?
That's a good one.
Did Oscar get one?
No.
Kenny Skywalker?
No, you don't know.
I don't.
Why am I asking you?
You thought Reggie Hansen integrated the school.
Love Reggie.
For most of you.
UK history, the answer was only one.
Chris Mills.
And then in 2017,
two different players got it that year.
Do you know who they were?
2017, I've narrowed it down for you.
Nope.
Deering Fox.
And Malik-Moss.
And Isaiah Briscoe.
Oh.
It's a weird group.
All the Kentucky players, you were to say,
who are the only three to ever get a triple double?
I don't think you would just randomly assume it's Chris Mills,
Isaiah Briscoe, and Deer and.
Fox, but that's the answer. We'll take a break.
859-28027. Come back. Final segment. It's a local toy
dealers, KSR Post-Git. Welcome back. Final segment, it is
the local Toyota dealers, KSR postgame show.
If you needed one assist to get a triple double, would you just like just pass at the
moment you got it, give up a layup to try to get somebody else a basket?
I'm definitely like colluding with somebody. Like we're just, we're running a BES.
This game maybe a little close to do that, but I would, I think I would do it.
That's 11.
That's three and a half minutes.
This is a big game.
It's a top 10 team.
People are riding me with the teams they think I should have had on the list.
All good points.
If I gave you, I gave you my top four.
So let me go real quick after the, after the 03 team.
I would say number five would probably be 98.
Number six would probably be 96.
number seven would probably be 93 with Travis Ford in the building tonight with the
Mashburn group I think number eight would be 2012 I know we won the title I just I didn't
think those games were as fun to watch as some of these other teams obviously I loved
the team then after that maybe 2017 number nine and uh we'll just
to say number 10, we'll just throw in like 04, the team after Bogans that was also really,
really good, but got upset in the tournament by UAB and those twin brothers.
Their names were like squeaky and fruity or something like that, Billy.
Squeaky and what?
There was a guy.
One of his name was squeaky.
I don't remember what the other one's name was, but they were like twins, and they both
had names like squeaky and squawky or something.
And what they threw in famous play from that guy, a guy threw it behind his head all the way
down the court and dunked on us.
It was bad. That was a bad loss. We were number one overall
C lost in second round. Who's up next?
Hall is next.
Hall. Go ahead, Hall.
Hey, Matt. First, I'm a,
I don't drink milk, but made about
five or six times a year.
And the majority of the time, it's usually with
like a hot brownie or a warm cookie
or something like that. I don't drink it.
But again, no, but again, the reason you like it,
if you're putting a cookie or a brownie in it,
you're really doing it for the sugar
of the cookie and the brownie. It's not about
the milk. You know what I mean? It's about
the thing you're putting with the milk.
Yeah, that's a good
point. You're absolutely right. That's a good point.
But there's one thing
I think, you know, I've started to realize
about Coach Pope here the last
couple games, and even in the preseason
games. And I think Jay Billis
talked about it a little bit because he was so
surprised playing against
Duke. Coach Pope, his ability
to get
guys from random schools
playing in different conferences and such.
and to come play together is quite incredible.
Let's see.
I mean, I know we saw that with Cal maybe in some early stages of his career.
He talked about me like the 11-12.
Yeah, he did that with high school kids.
Kyle did it when Cal was at his best, that's what he was able to do with high school kids.
He'd get a lot of guys who were stars and give him to play together.
Absolutely.
But we always talk about how Coach Coach Pogue's offense and how, like, that was a big talk coming into this year.
But for him to do this is really quite incredible.
See, I'm so looking forward to this year.
And then also the other thing to remember about these guys,
I'm not sure any of the guys that came, as crazy as this sounds,
I don't know if any of them except maybe Carr were even the best players on their team.
Think about that for a minute.
I mean, you know, Robinson might have been the best player,
but he was the sixth man, right?
Braya was the sixth man.
Butler was probably the second best player at San Diego State.
I don't know where Oway ranked on that team for his team.
So, you know, Amari Williams, I don't know enough about Drexel,
but I don't know that he was like, I know his first team all defense,
but I don't know about it.
But like, so it's not like he went and got five mid-major superstars.
He got like five.
Yeah, exactly.
five mid-major really good players and then watching them collectively become even better.
That's that's that's that's that's that's that's you're absolutely right and uh you know going
I think of next year his ability to get guys to buy in and think about the freshman coming in this
year I know some may jump the NBA maybe next year if their talents in or for whatever but for
them to buy in just for a year just for the as coach Pope said even coach recino said to buy
for the front of the jersey and the back will take care of itself.
It's really cool to see.
That's exactly right.
Appreciate the call.
I think that's, yeah, I mean, they all, you know, you get a dude.
I want you to think about what it's like to be these guys for the other teams.
Like take a dude like Ansley Almanor who starts for Fairley Dickinson and then comes here to play 13 minutes, right?
or, you know, all these guys.
None of them are guaranteed, guaranteed minutes.
And to do that, that's even another level of sacrifice.
And we haven't even seen like a hint of ego.
I mean, Jackson Robinson said, I let down my team with my body language.
Billy, I didn't even recognize it as particularly bad body language.
Did you?
I mean, you know.
Half time, he was kind of like holding his head in his hands a little bit.
And I could see it then.
but just a really mature thing for that guy to say.
Yeah.
Still one assist short for Cam Jones.
I'll keep you up today.
Let's do four more in call tonight.
Who's next?
Doing good.
Doing good.
Go ahead.
Hey, guys.
I'm doing good.
I hope you're doing well.
The biggest thing,
the biggest takeaway that I've got from these like first four games is, you know,
comparing it to last year.
The sum is so much better.
than the parts. You know, with Calapari, I love Cal. He was the perfect coach for us at the
perfect time for a while, but especially in recent years, he become kind of like the Wendy's
commercial, you know, parts is parts. But with this group, my gosh, like you said, we still
got a really high ceiling. They are so much fun to watch as multiple people have, you know,
commented even on this. I never know who's going to be the leading score. I have absolutely no
idea and it is just it's fantastic it's like a real a real breath of fresh air and i've just i've enjoyed
every minute of this season so far uh one of the other things that i've really enjoyed for those
of you that haven't heard it yet you and mire it on sunday mornings you're becoming must listen to
radio you guys are absolutely killing it on sunday mornings and i'm really enjoying your NFL show
i'm going to maybe call in one of these days yeah please do uh you guys that's very nice of you
Thank you very much.
I enjoy doing that.
And for those of you listening, subscribe to our podcast, Sunday mornings with Matt
and Myron.
When the NFL season ends, it'll be easier to do stuff.
Like the problem is we preview these games and then they happen.
And then it's like, well, after they're over, do you want to hear the previews?
But we try to make it interesting.
But when the season's over, it'll even be like more timeless.
Like Billy's post-game show, he's going to be hosting Friday night.
That's right.
Billy. It's only second time you've ever done this, right?
Yeah, I did it for Drew's wedding with Max Duffy.
So you haven't done it yet. Yeah, I remember I was on that one. So you haven't really done it yet just by yourself.
Yeah, no, I haven't. Are you nervous?
No, no. I was born for this.
Oh, you were? You were born for it. Post game radio shows.
Not nervous at all. Like, so you've been like waiting for your Jackson State call up.
Well, what's the point of being nervous, Matt? I mean, I just think all the positive things that could have.
That's right. The neuroscience is clear.
That's right, Billy.
All right. So he'll do that.
He's going to do that on Friday.
He'll be hosting the post-game show.
So for those of you that have wanted to call in with Billy,
he'll both be answering the phones and doing the show.
Who's next?
Let's go to Wayne.
Wayne, go ahead, Wayne.
Long time.
Who are? What's up, Wayne?
I have two things.
The first one is about my first.
favorite play of the night. It was the path that Chandler made through the legs to Williams
and the slime dump. Yes. Well, that one was great. Do you think you could do that? Probably not.
Probably not. Okay. And my second is Jackson Robinson's my favorite player and just watching him
tonight because I was there at the game and I was amazed of how many points he had.
Yeah, he was great, wasn't he?
I like him, too.
He's kind of silent, but another guy who has a pretty shot,
and I'm glad you had a good time at the game.
You're going to go to another one?
All right.
I appreciate the call.
Okay, well, good.
Well, enjoy yourself.
See, there you go.
Billy, how do you not like the kids?
Now, when you host Friday, if kids call, you're going to have to be nice.
I don't know about that.
I mean, I'm in charge.
So is it a no-kid Friday?
Is that what it's going to be?
It'll turn into all that.
the kids calling on Friday if I say that.
Nice. Okay. Hey, I think he got his assist right there.
Did he get it? I think he did. Does that mean no more, Dwayne? I think he passed that.
That should be an assist. They haven't put it on the screen yet. We'll see. All right. Who's up
next? Jacob. Jacob. Go ahead, Jacob.
Hey, Matt, first time long time.
Who on? What's up? Hey, headed back to Webster County. What was at the game tonight?
hey, just want to paint this picture for you.
Tell me if you ever heard this before.
A team comes in the Rupp Arena and just shoots the lights out.
You know, it was encouraging tonight to see, you know,
Lipscomb started over 13 from the three point line.
It was just kind of nice to see that.
Yeah, that doesn't happen a lot.
You're exactly right.
Normally they're making them all.
He did get the triple double, by the way, Billy.
So no more Dwayne Wade to have to worry about on that stat.
But go ahead.
No, hey, man, that's great.
I think maybe we gave our defense a little more credit.
A lot of bets hit on that drafting tonight.
Well, good, yes.
Appreciate.
Webster County all over the place this week.
I had two Webster County groups today at the bar for the radio show,
and now you're on the post game.
Be careful going home.
Big win for the Cats.
Kentucky's looking great, man.
Fun year.
It's been exciting.
Let's just hope the good vibes keep rolling.
Cats win.
9768.
Tomorrow we'll be at the bar as well.
At 10 a.m.
I'll see you then.
