Welcome, everyone. It is the local Toyota dealers KSR postgame show.
Starting point is 00:02:49 The Cats get a massive win in the rivalry, the 14th time in the last 17 games that Kentucky has beaten Louisville, taking them down. at home tonight in a fun game. Kind of Louisville's back competitive again, but Kentucky wins 9385. 859-280-2287. I'm at the KS Bar and Grill, and we'll be here until the end of the show. Billy, I was in such a celebratory mood.
Starting point is 00:03:17 I told everybody that beer was $1.50 tonight, and we were $1.50? Until 10 o'clock, yeah. Oh, okay, that's the stipulation. Yeah, I mean, it's not, well, it's until the end of this post-game show. But we got a good crowd here, and they seem to be just by looking around and enjoying my generosity. And we'll see what that ends up with at the end.
Starting point is 00:03:40 But with Kentucky, great game, a game that the cats led by four to ten points, nearly the entire game. I counted by six times they got up ten points with a chance to kind of run it away. And then Louisville would always come down. usually hit a three, get it back to seven, and it kind of fluctuated. Kentucky never lost the lead, but they also weren't able to pull away. However, they still got the victory. And really an awesome day for Kentucky basketball. Lamont Butler is the story.
Starting point is 00:04:16 After having not played the last two games with an injury, he comes out and is just excellent. 33 points, 10 for 10 shooting, the third most. baskets made without a miss in Kentucky history. Only Rodney Dent and Melvin Turpin had more baskets without missing a shot. Ten for ten. Pretty amazing. All the guys in the top seven are all bigs and he's a point guard and went ten for ten. Six for six from three and a lot of huge shots when he did it. I thought his threes to start the second half were kind of crucial to the victory. just a great performance. He controlled the game.
Starting point is 00:04:59 When he was in, Kentucky was the far better team. When he was out, we struggled. I think you, if we didn't know before he was the most important player on the team, we certainly know now. He was named MVP of the game. I thought it was an excellent, excellent performance. So just some thoughts in general about the game. You had obviously Lamont Butler played well.
Starting point is 00:05:21 I thought Jackson Robinson played well without scoring. He had eight rebounds. I thought he played really good defense when he was, his, his man didn't really do a whole lot. Obviously, Hepburn and Edwards were their big scores. But I thought he played really well without scoring a ton. You know, Otega Owe, for about 35 minutes, you could have forgotten he was playing. He didn't, he actually was out of the game quite a bit more than usual. And then in the last four minutes, he probably makes the three biggest plays of the game.
Starting point is 00:05:54 His steel and a dunk was at a crucial time. His and won towards the end, his three-pointer. I mean, O'A had eight points in the last four minutes, and Kentucky probably doesn't win without him. So 36 minutes, maybe a little slow, but right at the end shows why he's so good. I thought Kobe Bray have really struggled most of the game, especially on defense.
Starting point is 00:06:16 But in my opinion, the biggest shot of the night might have been his three he hit with the guy on him. Louisville was on a run, had cut it to three. he hit a contested three and while defensively he was a real weakness I thought that was a big play in the second half but overall hat tip to Pat Kelsey's team
Starting point is 00:06:36 they are obviously a lot better but they also play hard seem like relatively likable guys compared to some of the Louisville teams over the years I liked Billy the the fight it was the has to be the most aggressive fight with no punches thrown in history.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Aggressive pushing, yeah. Yeah, well, I don't even know if there was pushing. I think everybody kept their hands down to the side. I don't really know what Brandon Garrison was doing, but there was a lot of them. There was only one of him. Mark Pope somehow came and if you see the picture, it looked like he put Pat Kelsey in a headlock.
Starting point is 00:07:13 I don't think that's what he did, but the still frame picture makes it look like he did. But that's what you want in a good rivalry, right? Like you want some aggressiveness and you want some sort of, I don't know, you want to see two teams who really care. And I think you had that tonight. And Mario was just here and he said to me it was the loudest he had ever heard Rupp Arena. And I think that's during the second half. I think that's another great side.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I mean, this fan base has connected with this group. When you consider when the season started, the fact that there's probably never been a Kentucky team in history, that the fan base knew less about than this one. Matter of fact, I'm certain there's never been a Kentucky team where the fans knew less about them. We didn't have any players continue from last year. With the exception of Travis Perry, most people never even followed these guys at any point in their careers.
Starting point is 00:08:13 And then all of a sudden they're just on the team. And I thought to myself, will fans connect with a group of guys that they know nothing about? Well, the answer that question is certainly yes. I mean, these guys get what the uniform means. And at a time when lots of people, including my good friend, Tony Vanetti, sit here and say, oh, college sports are ruined, college basketball is ruined. How could you not love this group?
Starting point is 00:08:40 This game tonight, to me, is exactly why I love college athletics. The fact that some of these guys are getting money now didn't change how hard they tried. It didn't change how hard they played, and it didn't change what the names on the front of the jerseys meant. You had a Louisville player flipping off Kentucky students. You had Peyton Siva yelling at a group of Kentucky students barking back and forth. You had Kentucky players getting into it on the Louisville sidelines. You had Kentucky players throwing L's down after the game is over. It was a great chapter in the rivalry.
Starting point is 00:09:15 And while both teams, I think, maybe have had more talent, but I'm not sure you've had a lot that have cared as much as the guys did tonight. And I think that's what made the win special. Kentucky is now 10 and 1. They go to New York to play Ohio State Saturday. It's finals week. So there's no game during the week. Play Ohio State Saturday in Madison Square Garden.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Ohio State does not look to be very good. They lost by 40 today to Auburn. So a good week of getting rested up. And then they'll have 10 days where they'll only have one game before they start SEC play beat Duke, beat Gonzaga, beat Louisville. It's a pretty good start to the Mark Pope era. Also, a little special announcement for there are going to be five Saturday home games this year where if we win the game, on the Sunday after the game, we will have an autograph signing with one of the players here at KS Bar. This was game one. So Jackson Robinson will be at
Starting point is 00:10:16 KS Bar tomorrow from 2 to 3.30. You can come meet him, get an autograph, take a picture from 2 to 3.30, while the Bengals, by the way, are playing the Titans as well. So hope you guys will come out and go watch Jackson, or come say hi to Jackson Robinson. And I bet he'll throw some mails down for you, too, if you want. 859-28027.
Starting point is 00:10:39 I'm going to take your calls. Billy and I are here. Billy's off next week. So as soon as this is over, he goes on vacation. so maybe we should let this one linger a little bit. No, no, we can wrap this one up. No, this is Kentucky Louisville. We can't be quick with this one.
Starting point is 00:10:51 We got to enjoy it. We're here at KS Bar and Grill. We will take a break. Kentucky, over the cards. Big Brother beats Little Brother. This is the local Toyota Dealers, KSR Postgame Show. Welcome back. It is the local Toyota dealers KSR postgame show.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Yukon leads Gonzaga, 43 to 40. I'm pulling for the Zags tonight. That would help the cats, especially after Clemson Law. a little bit earlier today. Tennessee beats Illinois on a coast-to-coast buzzer beater. Or excuse me, Tennessee, yes, I said Tennessee beats Illinois on a coast-to-coast buzzer beater to stay number one in the country and undefeated. Great game there where, well, it was.
Starting point is 00:11:34 They had 45 free throws, Billy, in the first half, 45. In the first half? I guess they had a meeting at halftime. They were only like six in the second half. So I don't know. No foul. I don't know how you call it. Speaking of officials, by the way, Pat Adams.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Come on, dude. Like, you know, the era of sort of look at me officials in college basketball, which was a huge thing even when I was a kid, it's kind of come close to ending. There are not many of those guys still left doing it. There are a handful. Our guy, Dougie Shows, and, you know, what's the one guy's name? Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:12:13 The one with the roofing company? No, no, he doesn't do it anymore. The guy, well, I can't remember his name. I can picture him. He always used to tee up cow. TV Teddy? Well, he's not going. He retired.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Yeah, I think he's gone. I think he retired too. But Pat Adams is still going strong on that. And tonight he had some epic Pat Adams moments. I mean, culminating for me when a guy called a foul and he ran over and said, that's not who fouled. And the guy was like, I'm the one that called it. I think I know who failed.
Starting point is 00:12:47 They go to the monitor, and of course Pat Adams was wrong. And then during the fight thing, Billy, he comes on there and he gives like an exposition to say that they were calling nothing on anyone. Yeah, less is more in those situations. I mean, Pat Adams, you talk about a dude that loves to see his face on television. I didn't think it was a poorly officiated game in general, but Pat Adams was specifically bad. All right, let's get started. Who's up first? Chop.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Chop. How are you, Chop? I'm good, man. How are you? First time, long time. Who are? What's up? Hey, so I've never called in before, but I'm a Cincinnati fan, but also a Kentucky fan. So I hope you'll have me. But all I want to say is all season long and then leading into the season, you said that Jackson Robinson would be our best player. And I think, you know, I think he's good. But I also think Lamont Butler obviously showed that he is our best player.
Starting point is 00:13:56 And I just wanted to get your thoughts on that. Yeah, I mean, he may be. I mean, you're also the best. Appreciate the call. He may be our best player. I mean, he's certainly without question our most important player. I mean, we're a different team when he's not in there. And that's even more true now that Kirkreisa is,
Starting point is 00:14:15 out. We have to have him in. I thought Pope managed his minutes very well. You know, Travis Perry didn't score and, you know, he got beat a couple of times on defense, but I thought his seven minutes were actually important because you got to get, you had to get Lamont Butler arrest. But Lamont is, is great. I think Jackson's very good, too. I mean, we don't beat Gonzaga without Jackson Robinson, but Lamont, Lamont's the most important player on the team. He's the leader, and the thing he's doing that is different. than what he did. He was a great defender at San Diego State.
Starting point is 00:14:50 But his sort of rep was get to the rim, but he can't finish. Well, he's finishing this year, and that's really making a huge difference for Kentucky. Because, you know, we've talked about, are there guys that can go get their own shot? He can't do it against everybody, Butler, but he can do it against a lot of guys. And that's important.
Starting point is 00:15:09 It was especially important tonight where he got some, when our offense was stagnant, got some big buckets at the rim. Who's next? Brock. Brock. What's up, Brock? First time, long time.
Starting point is 00:15:21 Who are? What's up? Hey, a quick question there. What's up with Colin Chandler? And he's playing time. He's not as good as everybody else. The answer to every question on that, unless you're talking about Cal with Reed Shepard and Rob Dillingham is,
Starting point is 00:15:37 he's not as good as the other guys. I mean, you've seen Colin Chandler this year. He's playing a lot of guys games. Has he been as good as the other guys? That. It seemed like he did pretty well. during the exhibition games. Well, but that's the exhibition games.
Starting point is 00:15:52 He's playing against people like me and you. Right, right. Okay, I mean, we put him in against Gonzaga. He played, he had to play against Gonzaga, and he got worked. So, I mean, I like Colin Chandler. I think he can be really, really good here. But he's not as good as the dudes that we have, so. Right.
Starting point is 00:16:10 I didn't know if I missed anything, if it was any injuries or anything. But a quick shout out to Billy Rutley there. He's the man. Not two for two. See, there you go. Appreciate the call. Yeah, but see, the person who's asking after we beat Louisville while we don't play Colin Chandler more, that's a Billy Rutledge fan. That's fine.
Starting point is 00:16:29 I'll take all of them. All fans are welcome. Okay. No, I mean, the answer for all these guys is always going to be the same. You know, it is clear who our guys are, okay? I think we have five guys. I think we have four guys that are better than everyone else. I think Butler Robinson, Carr, no way, are our best four players.
Starting point is 00:16:52 I think Brea is a great shooter, so he slots in at five, but he can't defend. Amari Williams frustrates me because he is either, I don't know what you think about this, Billy, but he is either like a bundle of energy or like slow to the ball and looks like he doesn't care. It's so weird because when he plays with energy, he's everywhere. But tonight, I mean, he only played 15 minutes. And when Pope pulled him after he got beat a few times at the beginning of the second half, he didn't put him back in. This game specifically, there were a couple times he just didn't put his hands up to contest the shot. He didn't even put his hands up.
Starting point is 00:17:31 No. And he made some bad decisions. And so he's kind of feast or famine. Brandon Garrison's got a lot of energy, makes mistakes, very athletic, but makes a lot of mistakes. I would put him then at seven. And then I think there's a big drop to everybody else. Almanor is probably eight. And then, you know, Kerr's out.
Starting point is 00:17:55 So then basically 10, 11, 12 with Chandler Perry, Noah just depends on the situation. But in my opinion, you've got five guys throwing Williams and Garrison and Almanor. You got eight guys you're going to play a lot. And really, you know, you're five. at the end of the game, Garrison and Williams hit, went on the bench. They played Carr, went small, and that's their best team. That's their, in my opinion, their best team is Carr at the five and then the four other guys. That's their best team.
Starting point is 00:18:26 But they, but, you know, there are going to be guys, teams you have to play Williams and Garrison against. Who's next? Rick. Rick. Rick. Go ahead, Rick. Hey, guys. Love this team.
Starting point is 00:18:37 Love what Pope's doing. And I've got a name for this team. It may be a little early. Yes, please. And it may have been brought up, but how about the stray cats? And they could play the stray cat strut when they come out onto the court. You know, I actually don't. I don't hate that one.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Because they were from everywhere else, and so it's like herding cats. Well, I don't know about the hurting part. I actually kind of like, I appreciate the call. I'm not going to, I mean, you know, I hate nicknames. But Billy, I actually kind of like that one, because there is a little bit about that. Like these were kind of all people. from everywhere. And I don't think they were unwanted.
Starting point is 00:19:16 I mean, they were all very good players on their various teams. But it is a little bit of that, isn't it? It is. I mean, there's a little logic behind it. It just,
Starting point is 00:19:23 it didn't do it for me. Yeah, and it's also not necessarily complimentary. Right. Like people don't always, when they say stray cat, they're not always thinking something complimentary. But Drew had the right idea.
Starting point is 00:19:38 The, the Remarkables, the marksman. No. The Island of Missfit Toys? That's the worst one. You cannot call for the Island of Missing. What I mean?
Starting point is 00:19:49 You've never heard of the Island of MissFit Toys? No, no, I do from Rudolph. But, like, what was that person thinking when they submitted that one? I don't think that was a very complimentary one. Who's up next? Isaac. Isaac. Go ahead, Isaac.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Hey, Matt. How are you? I'm good. I just got two things. Number one, Lamont Butler is one of my favorite point guards, I think, in a long time. He kind of reminds me to Tyler Ulysses because he's short and he's really tough, kind of unassuming, but as tough as nails he is. I just love watching him play.
Starting point is 00:20:26 I do too. I think he is so tough and he's smart. I mean, one of the things that's great about this team with how old they are is that they are so smart. I mean, the basketball IQ on this team is really high. And I agree with you. After watching a lot of young teams, it's fun. see that. And my second thing to all the Louisville fans coping saying if we were healthy we would have won this game and all this got to feel like a loss to Kentucky because it didn't cover.
Starting point is 00:20:57 I don't want to hear that. You got to suck out down and go cat. Yeah, I don't want to hear that. When people say, well, if we were healthy, you know, Louisville fans, if we were healthy, we would have won. I mean, stop, okay, stop. Your two best players played. They were without the guy who got hurt the blonde hair and that does hurt them but they you know we didn't dominate them down low to be honest they out rebounded us uh on the offensive glass at least early so yeah i'm not i'm not going to listen to that if they if they had had another guy the score would probably been about the same because they also kind of i mean they hit a lot of threes they were 344th in the country and three point shooting and while their percentage wasn't great tonight they made like 14 of them or 50 i mean they end up making
Starting point is 00:21:42 15, that's not their normal thing. 14. 14. Okay. So, I mean, that's what they took 39. So it's not a great percentage. It's like 37%. But, you know, they've been shooting 27%.
Starting point is 00:21:54 So I don't want to hear that. Who's up next? Oh, by the way, Kentucky just got a commitment from the transfer portal. Marshall linebacker Landon Watson is coming to Kentucky. I will say, you know, we still are waiting on the Vince Merrow what happens there. and I think we'll probably know more tomorrow. But those are two really good gets today in the transfer portal. There's been a lot of bad news with Kentucky football.
Starting point is 00:22:20 But Sam Green, the edge rusher from USC. And then this, Landon Watson was maybe Marshall's best player. So those are two good gets to start their transfer portal. All right, go ahead. Chris. Chris. Chris, go ahead, Chris. I just want to say I love watching this team.
Starting point is 00:22:36 But one thing I think that gets lost about, maybe you've said it on your show, is typically when there's a coaching changeover, you know, you have players from the previous coaching staff that stay, and, you know, one could argue, oh, you know, they're doing good because it's the other coaches guys kind of thing. But one of the things I love is, and I think is special, is these are all Mark Pope's guys. We don't have that gentleman over in Arkansas saying,
Starting point is 00:23:04 you know, those are my guys, you know, that's what, you know, and so, you know, to me, that's one of the things that makes this whole, thing so special. I agree with that. I mean, yeah, I mean, they are, I appreciate the call. They are, I mean, it's, by the way, my mom is endorsing stray cats too, Billy. Oh, well, game over now. But no, they are.
Starting point is 00:23:26 I mean, they're all from all over. There have been multiple commentators now say they think Mark Pope is the early season coach of the year. And I kind of agree with that. I mean, while these guys are, like, they're better than they're, individual talents. Do you agree with that, Billy? Like, there's no pros on this team, in my opinion.
Starting point is 00:23:48 I hope so. But I'd be surprised if any of these guys play in the NBA in the future. Yeah, no doubt. They're greater. But the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Exactly. I mean, Antonio Reeves is better than everyone we have on this team. And he, you know, is a, although he had 28 in the game, he's kind of a fringe NBA player
Starting point is 00:24:10 right now. I don't think we have any NBA players on this team. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so. But like, it doesn't matter because they are really, really, really good college basketball players. And that's just very different than what we're used to. What's next? Jay Witt. Jay Witt. Go ahead. Matt, how about them cats, baby? That's all I got to say. Mark Pope. The Pope train's rolling our citizens preseason. Let's go. BBM for life. BBM forever. Let's go. I love it. I love it. I love that. Now, there's some people, Billy, who are saying to me that a blue coat, all right, so I'm going to read you. Have you seen this tweet about the guy at the game? Are you talking about the police officer?
Starting point is 00:24:58 That a police officer came and told fans in the lower level if they didn't sit down, they would go to jail. Again. Yeah, I mean, obviously, we don't know if that's true or not. If it is. is I don't think it's a crime to stand during games. I'd have to see the code. I'd see the statute where it says that. But, you know, we shouldn't be doing that. But, yeah, there's a couple people saying that happened,
Starting point is 00:25:29 and there's a video of the officer walking down. But we didn't hear the conversation, so that is important to also know. Who's next? Lane is next. Lane, go ahead, Lane. Hey, Matt, what's going on? Maybe first time, long time. Who are? What's up?
Starting point is 00:25:48 Man, I got two things for you. What about the guy in the shorts across from Kelly Cratch in the front row, cheering on the Wildcats, baby? Who was that? Who was that? I have no idea. Seen him on the television. I wanted to shout him out on my first thing.
Starting point is 00:26:08 I got one more thing for you. What about Mark Pope? putting pat Kelsey in a headlock in that scuffle we had. Yeah. What do we think about that? That's sad. Did you, I don't think he was trying to, but it's what it looks like. Well, he kind of pulled up the big daddy versus little daddy,
Starting point is 00:26:29 showed him who was boss in Rupp Arena, and kind of showed him what the deal was. I mean, it does look like that, Billy, doesn't it? I mean, it kind of, it looks like a little bit. That's what we'll remember that in the flipping the off, the fans. Yeah. Well, I like it. I agree with you. I appreciate to call that. I think in this game, when we look back at this rock, you know, every Kentucky Louisville game, there's like one or two things you can remember. This one will be Lamont Butler went 10 for 10 and then probably that little, that little scuffle on the sideline. Those will probably be the two things
Starting point is 00:27:02 that people remember from this game. And, you know, Lamont Butler goes into the lore of great, of big time players that made their play against Louisville. I mean, he joins Jim Master. Cedric Jenkins, Patrick Sparks, Tyler Ulyss, Antonio Reeves last year who had 30 against Louisville. I'm trying to think. Who are the other kind of Louisville takedowns over the years? I remember the play where Willie stole it from Montres-Harrell and dunked and then looked back at him. That's one that I remember pretty well. So he kind of, I think Lamont Butler joins that list of Kentucky. guys that we will always remember their performance. Jorts in the game against Louisville.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Jorts had his coming out party against Louisville that season. So I think he joins that group. Who's next? Jerry. Jerry, go ahead, Jerry. Hey, what's up, Matt, John? Thank you. But the only thing of bothering me about Kentucky is right now is our preventer defense, man. I think we just. Well, we're not great. We knew tonight coming in, the white kids, shoots left-handed, and the guard, they was going to take off the game. But at the end of the day, we won the game. At the end of the day, my call.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Go cats. Yeah, they play hard defensively, but we're not a great defensive team on the perimeter. You know, Butler is really good. Bray is not. O'A and Robinson are okay. Allmanor is not good defensively. Perry's not very good.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Carr's not very good. Williams is pretty good, but can still get beat. We're not a great individual defensive team, but when we give effort, we are a team that can still hustle and get a lot of accomplished. But no, we're not a great team defensively, especially on the perimeter. 859-28027. We're going to take a break.
Starting point is 00:29:09 We are here at KS Bar and Grill. Had a great set of crowd here all day before, after, or before, during, and now after the game. and we'll do 30 more minutes and then Billy gets to go on vacation. This is the local toy dealers KSR post game show. Welcome back. It is the local toy dealers KSR post game show. Are you coming up for a picture?
Starting point is 00:29:29 You can come up and take a picture. I'm still doing the show, but that's all right. We'll do it while this guy's giving his comment. 859-280-2287. Who's up first? Rance is next. Rance. How are you, Rants?
Starting point is 00:29:43 All right, Matt. You know, a gritty win. I think we had to grind it out. You know, I think it was a grinding type victory, a good win. But I got some stats I want to throw at you. And if you can, just explain them for me. I'm kind of confused. We out rebound them, 4131.
Starting point is 00:29:59 We have 11 turnovers to their 7. Yeah. But we only get up 55 shots to their 70. Yeah, it's a good. I thought the disparity at halftime was even more surprising. I think we went to the line more than they did. Am I right about that? How many free throws did we shoot?
Starting point is 00:30:20 We were 18 of 28 while they were 9 of 14. Yeah, so we took 14 more free throws, which is basically seven more possessions. So seven of the possessions go down to us in and up shooting free throws. The turnovers, I think, makes some of the difference. And then their offensive rebounds, at least in the first half, had five offensive. of rebounds, we had one. I'll have to look up for the game here. They had 10, and we had seven.
Starting point is 00:30:48 So, I mean, that explains the difference in possessions, but it is a weird score sheet for exactly, like you said, they ended up getting up 15 more shots than we did, but we out rebounded them. That's kind of odd. But I think it was the reasons I just said. Well, I'm not sure, but if you don't get immediate, when the ball comes off the rim, if you don't get immediate,
Starting point is 00:31:12 if one team or the other doesn't get an immediate possession and becomes a loose ball, correct? And maybe that's part of it? It could be, yeah. I mean, the ball can bounce and still be called an offensive rebound, but then if it, like, we're to get kicked to half court, it's not considered an offensive rebound. So, but most of the time when the ball, on a miss shot,
Starting point is 00:31:34 from my day's scorekeeping, you almost always end up giving a rebound unless it, like, becomes a loose ball, situation. Well, I think Louisville got in there and mucked it up. No, they did. That's how they play. The only surprise was that they scored a lot. I mean, they played exactly like they've played all year. The only surprise is they scored 85 points. Yeah. And a lot of those were off, I don't know if the rebounds or office rebounds or got loose balls or what, but they seemed to out hustle us to a lot of balls, Matt. I think they did for part of it. And I appreciate the call. I do think they out hustle us some.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Listen, they played hard. But, you know, I mean, they hit, so they hit 14 threes, but nine of them were Edwards or Hepburn. So, I mean, Edwards and Hepberg go nine for 18. They shoot 50% from three. The rest of their team went five for 20. So two guys shot 50%, and the rest of the team shot 25%. And, you know, the problem was we just gave up too many looks to those two guys, especially, I mean, Edwards was in foul trouble a lot of the game. So he only ended up playing, let's see, he only ended up playing, how many minutes?
Starting point is 00:32:49 Edwards ended up only playing 30. He missed 10 minutes, but he ended up getting up seven threes and 14 shots. We gave him too many looks. Who's next? Moffitt. Moffitt. How are you Moffat? Hey, good, Matt. First time, long time. Who are? What's up? Oh, man, you know, just over here celebrating this win. Hey, you know, I really liked that wrestling move that I saw Mark Pope put on Louisville's coach over there. It got me thinking. It was a side headlock.
Starting point is 00:33:20 Right now, we just finished the main event at Christmas Chaos for OVW, and there wasn't a better headlock, I'm sure, than what Mark Pope put on. Well, I'm glad you brought that up because it got me thinking. Who do you think would win in a cage match between Mark Pope and Shannon the dude? Well, I think everyone that you know outside of Billy R Sports would win in a fight against, Shannon the dude. So that I would certainly put pick Mark Pope. I love it. I love his team. I love Mark Pope. Go Big Blue. Appreciate to call. Yeah. Thanks to all the people who came. We had a huge crowd at OVW in Georgetown and sold out tonight in Louisville. So it was it was a good day. A lot of
Starting point is 00:34:02 people went after the basketball game went and watched the show there. Who's next? Bones. Bones. How are you? Good. What's going on, fellas? That's two in the row. My birthday week, man. So I just got to couple real quick observations, man. So for one, Kobe Bray is still kind of getting tors on defense, but he's getting better. But how about him actually looking for the drive and actually beat his man once or twice off the dribble? He did.
Starting point is 00:34:27 That was nice. That was nice. He played. I actually thought he played well offensively. He played well offensively. He missed a couple. I think he would normally make. I mean, defensively, he's just not good.
Starting point is 00:34:37 And I don't think that's getting better. But if he's hitting the threes, if he's hitting the threes and getting those drives, it's okay. Right. And then a number two, like in that little scrum there when Garrison, that guy wouldn't happen. If you look, Garrison tries to step over the guy after the foul call when he raised his hands. And one of the Louisville players, I'm not sure which one it is, whoever's in his face, actually hugs Garrison and pulls him into the scrum. So I think you're trying to get some dirty shot. Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:06 So I went back and looked at that. It might be how you describe it. It also might be he did one of those things where you hold your hands up, but you keep walking towards the guy, kind of, so I don't really know. It was hard to see. Yeah, I couldn't really tell either, but you definitely see his hands around it, but I was glad to see Mark Pope go in there, and the first thing he does besides splitting everybody out there and putting him in a headlock
Starting point is 00:35:31 was just to get to Garrison and get him out of the scrum. Which is what he needed. And then he went and then he stopped O-Way. You know, O-Way, both of the little scuffles we've had, O-Way's been right in the center of both of them. That dude's ready to go. Yeah, and then O.A is like our enforcer, but if you kind of go back and watch the game, I'm a little concerned.
Starting point is 00:35:50 I don't know if it was the switch or if it was the screen, but a lot of the times O.A. kind of got lost, and that's how we kind of left them. And I was kind of disappointed that we weren't pushing out the threes because that's what Louisville was known for because they don't have any inside game. But either way, great win, go catch. Appreciate you guys. Take a more call. Love you guys, man.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Thanks. Appreciate the call. I'm not in any way complaining because we want to. won the game, but there is a sense for me where I think Oway and Braya especially just didn't really play smart on defense because they gave away the only thing you didn't want to give away to Louisville, which is threes. I wanted Kentucky to make Louisville beat them off the dribble. And in the last five minutes we did, and they weren't able to do that. We gave them too many three-point looks.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Now, I mean, that may have been the game plan because they don't shoot the ball well from three normally, but tonight they've made a bunch of. Who's next? JT. JT. How are you, JT? Hey, Matt. Just want to give a shout out to those Louisville Cardinal basketball managers.
Starting point is 00:36:55 I hope that was a big win for them last night. I know the real players, we're 14 to 17 and the last 17. So as long as our players in the league and their players are coaching, I think they got a good shot in those manager games. Did they play? I mean, did they play Peyton Civa in that game? That doesn't sound like I said. That doesn't seem fair if they did that.
Starting point is 00:37:18 Peyton Seva's too good to be playing in a manager game. What did you think about Peyton Seva kind of talking trash with the students? Are you good with that, Billy? Yeah, yeah, I'm fine with the jawing. I don't know if it was Peyton that started it, so I'm sure he just kind of gave it back a little bit. That's part of the rivalry, and I'm glad both sides participate. Yeah, I was totally fine with it.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Peyton Seva is a good dude. I like it. You know, I posted that video because I like it. That's what it's about. I mean, there was no anger. It's just playfully going at each other. Peyton says he has a ring. I feel like they took that from him, but otherwise, he was a really good player in his time in Louisville.
Starting point is 00:37:56 Who's next? Danny. Danny. How are you, Danny? Hey, how you guys doing? Doing good. Yeah, so I thought Butler was great, but Otega's little, he missed a free throw, then he got a still and a dunk, hit a three, and the hand one.
Starting point is 00:38:15 I mean, that was the difference in the game and the key, moment. You got to love that. I don't think he played well. I don't think he played well for 36 minutes. But then he had a great final. No, absolutely. And he had a great final four minutes.
Starting point is 00:38:28 And you got to love that toughness. Game doesn't go well. He doesn't put his head down. He ends up making the big plays at the end. It was crucial. And also, do you think Levant Butler is better than Marcus Teague? Yeah, probably. But, I mean, Marcus Teague was a freshman when it, when he was.
Starting point is 00:38:49 when he played and Lamont Butler is a fifth year senior. But, but yeah, I do think Lamont Miller's probably better than Marcus Teague. All right. That's all I got. Appreciate the call. Yeah, I mean, that's no criticism of Teague. But I mean, if Marcus Teague was a fifth year, was a fifth year senior, he might be, he'd probably be that good too, you know.
Starting point is 00:39:12 But I would say if you're just talking about their time at Kentucky, yeah, I think Butler's probably a little bit better. Let's do one more and we'll take a break. Who's next? Ed is next. Ed, go ahead, Ed. Hey, guys. How great is it when you beat your rival and you can say another one bites the dust
Starting point is 00:39:31 and I'm looking forward for the next victim, Go Cats. Totally agree. I'm looking forward to Saturday in New York. I'm not going to, I don't think I'm going to go. Earlier this year was thinking about going. I don't think I'm going to go because of our trip to Seattle, but it would be a lot of fun. And I'm looking forward to January 4th.
Starting point is 00:39:51 That Florida team is going to be top 10 that comes in here. They're going to play at 11 o'clock in the morning, Billy, which is going to be so strange. What are we doing it, 11 a.m. for? I don't know. That's when they're playing it. I think that's the day of the kids. I don't know what it is. Because it's not the college football playoff.
Starting point is 00:40:08 That'll be the couple days before. So I don't know why they're playing at 11 a.m. But they are, and it'll be a big game. I mean, it's a huge game. two top 10 teams at 11 a.m. So 859, 2807. We will take a break. We are here at KS Bar and Grill.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Cats with a big win over Louisville. Final segment coming up. This is the local toy dealers, KSR Postgame Show. Welcome back. It is the final segment of the local toy dealers, KSR postgame show. Remember tomorrow 2 to 3.30, Jackson Robinson will be here to meet the fans. So come on out and say hello to him, and he'll give a signature. a picture and if you if we win enough games during the year throughout the season if you come to
Starting point is 00:40:53 all of these you could have a picture and a signature with all of the big players for Kentucky wouldn't that be nice billy to get them all over the course of the year you can the stray cats yeah you can get the straight cat I kind of like the stray cat I don't think you do but I kind of do I'm not going to lie to you feels like you need to maybe embrace well if karen's on board I've got to get on board there you go Gonzagin yukon tied at 55 Gonzaga's been down this entire game. They fell down 10-0-0 to start. I don't think they had ever tied it until the last play.
Starting point is 00:41:23 And now it is 55-55 in Madison Square Garden. As a Kentucky fan, I'm pulling for the Zags here. Who's next? Gary. Gary, go ahead, Gary. Hey, Matt. Long-time listener, second-time caller. All right, what's up?
Starting point is 00:41:40 I first called after the Pope press conference. It's just kind of been a resurgence, man. After watching this team tonight, I ain't even going to lie. The first couple games, Duke and Gonzaga, I felt myself, I was in the mindset of the old Kentucky, like the last couple years. When we would get down a bunch, I wanted to turn it off. I had friends going, no, keep watching it. Keep watching it, keep watching it.
Starting point is 00:42:14 So I kept watching it. And I said after the game the other night, and we came back, I said, I was not going to have that mindset anymore. This game here was not like that. From the start, we were, we, we, this is what we've been waiting for, Matt. This is right here. Well, I agree. I mean, it's a fun team. I'm with you.
Starting point is 00:42:43 I believe in them. You know, there have been years it's been hard for me to watch the Louisville Kentucky game. I watched all this one. I felt good about it. And, yeah, so I'm with you. It's a different culture now. And you're right. The last few years, if we fell down, I thought we're probably losing this game.
Starting point is 00:43:01 Don't feel that way this year. Appreciate the call. What did you think of the, Billy, what did you think of the O-Way-3 at the end? There's still 20 seconds left on the shot clock. I was definitely doing a no, no, no. Yes, that great shot because I can't believe he took that shot, but he made it, and it ended up kind of sealing the game. No, I was the same way.
Starting point is 00:43:24 And that guy had some pretty good dunks tonight, a couple times, came to the lane. I could believe he took that. There was still 20-some seconds left on the shot clock. But you know what? Went in. I'd be interested to see if Pope had the same no, no, no, yes, that I did during it, or if he was happy he took it. Who's up next?
Starting point is 00:43:42 Lily. Lily. Lily, how are you, Lily? Good. How are you? Good. What's going on? I love that Lamont Butler was back, and I love that the rivalry was back. I do, too. How old are you, Lily? I'm 10 years old.
Starting point is 00:44:05 10 years old. Okay, so you've barely even seen us lose to Louisville, so you've been very lucky. Yeah. Well, glad you called it. I hope you enjoyed the win. Appreciate it, Lily. 859, 280, 2287. Just had a couple walk out of this bar. Guy was, had a Louisville hat on. His wife had a Kentucky shirt.
Starting point is 00:44:28 So there are still split marriages around the state. Let's do five more and we'll finish the night. Who's next? James. James. James. Hey, first time, long time. L's down.
Starting point is 00:44:41 L's down. Yeah. So it was great having you guys down in Seattle. It was great watching that win. It was great watching the win today. and did I see Vince Merrill in the in Rupp Arena? I did not, but I wasn't looking for him. I saw him.
Starting point is 00:44:59 He very well could have been. He was there. Okay. Would he actually go to the game if he was going to leave for UNC? Probably not. I feel better about him staying than I did on the pregame show, and I'll just kind of leave it at that. We'll talk more about it.
Starting point is 00:45:18 I think we'll probably hear more about it. maybe tomorrow and talk about it on Monday. But I feel on the pregame show, because I hadn't heard anything, I kind of wondered what that meant, but then I talked to some folks after the game, and I feel better about it now. Awesome. I appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:45:35 You guys have a great night. Thank you. You too. Four more. Who's next? Terry's next. Terry. Go ahead, Terry.
Starting point is 00:45:43 Well, tonight is going to be my first real criticism of Mark Pope. I thought his substitution pattern tonight was an A, but his defensive adjustments was about a D. He should have went zone. He should have went zone on Louisville. I mean, the only way they could hurt us and the way they did hurt us was the three-pointer. And had he went zone, I think that would have mixed them up a little bit, and we would have been fine. But my hat's off to Louisville a little bit because in the first half,
Starting point is 00:46:26 I didn't think we could have played much better, and they didn't fold. They stayed with us. Yeah, they did. But Lamont Butler, I mean, for a guy who's coming off of an ankle and is a game time decision to play that, kind of game. I mean, you just got to take your hat off to that, dude.
Starting point is 00:46:52 I mean, obviously, without him, we don't win. But he just, I mean, what a game about Lamont Buller. He played great. I mean, it was just there. And I really, I liked Pope down the stretch. He stayed with Garrison instead of Williams, and I thought that was key. Thanks. Appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:47:15 Yeah, I defensively, we did not. play well. And I didn't like the shots we were, we were kind of letting Louisville get. Some of it's because they could beat us off the dribble, but really not a lot of it. That was really only Braya. A lot of it was we were just, we were getting, we weren't playing up on them. I mean, think about how Gonzaga played against us in the first half. I wish that we had played Louisville like that. I think they would really struggle to score. But with that said, we were able to answer and it ended up being fight. As soon as I said Gonzaga tied it, Connecticut goes on a 10-0 run, and now they lead by 10. Three more. Who's next? Nathan. Nathan. Go ahead, Nathan.
Starting point is 00:47:56 Hey, Matt, can you hear me? Yes. How's it going? First off, I just have a question about Amari's defense. I know he was all defense, you know, against with Drexel. And, you know, I'm not sure who he's playing against, but, you know, especially tonight, his defense didn't look great at all. His defense was bad tonight. But there are times he plays really good defense. I mean, for me, I think it's like an effort thing with him. Because I feel like when his effort's good, he is really, really solid on defense. But tonight he was not good.
Starting point is 00:48:30 And as Billy said, there were a couple of plays where he didn't even have his hands up. And you can't do that, especially as a big. Yeah, like it seemed like a guard would go to drive in and he would just back up and like leave him alone and not even try to jump and block it or contested or anything. And also, are you, like, shocked that O.A. is doing as good as he is? I feel like he wasn't. Oh, he's definitely, if you're looking at the overall year. Yeah, if you're looking at the overall year, he's been my biggest surprise, no doubt.
Starting point is 00:49:01 Appreciate the call. I thought he'd be like the sixth man, and he is, you know, probably our fourth best player. And some nights, he's our first best player, depending on how it goes. So, you know, our top four of Robinson, but, let's. car and O way is a really, really good top four. And then when you throw in how good a shooter Brea can be, that's a really good five. And like I said,
Starting point is 00:49:28 I don't think any of them are pros. But I don't think that matters. I think they're just really, really good college players that they're fun to watch, too. Who's up next? Keith. Keith. Keith, what's up, Keith?
Starting point is 00:49:43 All right, man. I'm sorry. I'm just watching the redneck brawl on the Louisville Media box. So if, you know, after this last call, you don't need to switch over to that. It's classic. What is redneck bra? I don't know what that is. Well, just think rednecks in a boxing ring with, um, but what's it on?
Starting point is 00:50:03 With some, uh, it's on the Louisville media box. Oh, all right. So I probably don't have that channel, but go ahead. Anyway, uh, great, great, uh, you know, back and forth about, about each player, blah, blah, blah, blah. But all I can talk about is the broadcast. I cannot stand. Every time that UK would cheer, ESPN would mute the sound. I don't like, I don't know why they do that.
Starting point is 00:50:33 I don't understand why. You know, now all of our games are on ESPN, and that's what it's going to be for the future. I mean, we're, that's their our broadcast partner. But there's no doubt back when CBS used to do the games, that Rupp sounded. louder during those games. And I watch when, when they're at Kansas and Duke, you can hear the crowd. Now, I'll grant you that Rupp isn't always like that, but tonight it was, and I'm with you,
Starting point is 00:51:00 the crowd does not come through on ESPN broadcasts of our games, and I don't know, I don't know why that is. Even when we got loud and the broadcast even got a little louder, it turned it down from 11 to 5, like instantly. It's like, oh, we're waking up the old people. We've got to turn this down. I'm sitting here with my family and we're like, what is going on? We want to cheer, but it's like, nope, nope, don't stay. It's kind of like the guy who's getting arrested for standing up.
Starting point is 00:51:32 You're like, you can't stand up at home. You're like, they just mute us. Yeah, I do think there's something about the way they do, and I appreciate the call, the way they do their crowd mics or something. Like, it's, the sound does not come through from Rupp Arena. on ESPN and I don't I don't like that like I saw the clip this morning of Tayshan prince hitting the five threes and that was a CBS game and if you listen you feel like you're at the game and it just does not feel like that when they're at Rupp Arena on ESPN and since all of our games
Starting point is 00:52:06 in the foreseeable future are going to be there I wish they would find a way to to do it who's next our last caller fuzzy go ahead Hey, Matt, it's been a while since I've called. Been several years since I've been to a game, and I'm so happy I got to go to this game tonight. The energy in that place was amazing. Everybody around me was loud. So many people standing up.
Starting point is 00:52:30 Cameron Mills was actually right beside of me, and that dude is such a fan. Like, he was jumping out of his seat. We were all jumping out of our seat. Absolutely loved it. I love what Mark Pope has done with his team. He has made Kentucky basketball fun again, and I stayed and was actually the last person in line
Starting point is 00:52:46 to get an autograph from him. And every person he talked to, he was so happy to see him. He traded stories with people, smiling ear to ear. Like, this was such a fun night. Elves down, go big blue. Well, I love that. I mean, it is great to have a coach who he gets this place. And that, you know, it's not more important than winning to us, but it's right there with it.
Starting point is 00:53:13 And he gets this place. And that's awesome. to be a part of. Cats get a victory once again over Louisville, 14 and the last 17. Big win at home, 10 and 1 now on the season. They will play against Ohio State on Saturday. Billy, I hope you enjoy your vacation. Thank you. Tomorrow, Jackson Robinson is here at KS Bar signing from 2 to 3.30. I hope you'll come and say hi to him, throw some Ls down with him, and I will talk to you all next on Monday.
