Welcome in to the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's postgame show.
Drew Franklin here filling in for Matt Jones on night one of Kentucky basketball's 25-26 season.
I'm in the downtown Lexington studio with our dear,
friend Billy R. Sports, who just
loves sitting in the studio during games.
Billy, you've been here all day and it's so good to see you.
Looking well-rested, energized over there.
It's just nice to see another human being, Drew.
So I appreciate you. And whoever's hosting
the post game actually coming in to do it with me today.
It's good to be here. I was at the game. Did the rapid
reaction on the sidewalk. Walked
right down to the studio after Kentucky
handled its business against
Nichols, the Colonels, not Nichols State.
We're just going with Nichols, Billy. 77-51.
Not only the first game of the season, but the first
game of the BB and United
Tipoff Classic presented by Kentucky
Tourism. If I'm the only person
that's going to get excited about that, that's fine
but I'm going to keep pushing that message because it's a
big four-team, three-game
multi-team event to start the season
and Kentucky got it started by beating
Nichols 77 to 51.
It was a tail of two halves
and that's putting it lightly.
First half, a brutal run
for the Wildcats, second half they got it
going and pulled away late. We're going to
be here for the next hour, breaking down that
game, the highs, the lows. We want to hear from you.
859-280287. Call us throughout the night. Want to hear your favorite moments of the game.
Not favorite moments of the game. Concerns moving forward. Predictions for the season.
Maybe you were there. You can talk about the crowd. It wasn't the crowd's best effort,
but it was a good start to the season, Kentucky, getting the win. I will say before we go on
and get into the basketball, I have to mention the tragic accident that happened in Louisville
shortly before the game tipped off.
A UPS cargo plane
crashed just a horrific scene
with videos and photos going around.
I think, Billian, you can correct me,
you've been here getting the news.
I've been at Rupp, but at least four people
were killed, 11 injured.
Three, actually. Three people.
Excuse me. What I've seen.
Oh, three, three, okay.
But three, 11 injured.
It was an MD-11 aircraft
heading for Honolulu, so it was packed
with a ton of fuel, just an unbelievable
scene there. So we're thinking about
everyone, praying for everyone involved
with this tragedy news is still coming.
Did you say that they didn't even carry the game?
They're basically just doing news.
WHA, yes.
We were doing a lot of news updates, keeping people abreast.
So, you know, thinking about everybody involved,
and the images are striking out of that.
So wishing the best.
Yes, and I had to mention that before we get into a fun night of basketball
as Kentucky got that win,
because just a tragic situation in Louisville
and more will be coming on that throughout the night
as they continue the investigation going.
But that's what we know for now.
I want to acknowledge it
and send our thoughts and prayers out to everyone there.
There's not a good way to transition into basketball,
so I'll just do it again.
Kentucky got the win, beating Nichols, 77-51 in Rupp Arena.
Billy, I would love to skip the first half
and just get into when it really got fun,
but we should acknowledge that the first 20 minutes
was not the best basketball we've ever seen played.
From either side, we had a 28 to 15 halftime score.
There were people online who had struggled to fight,
Find ESPN. We all know that situation tonight. And at halftime, they're wishing they had never found it. It was so ugly. Kentucky shot two of 16 from three and 32 percent from the field. It felt like it was zero zero for several minutes early in the game. You get to that 2815 score at halftime. But it just looked brutal offensively to start. Aberdeen played but did not start out. They went with Chandler, Oway, Trent Noah, Mo Diabate, and Brandon Garrison. The same five that started against Georgia.
Georgetown and lost. We saw pretty quickly what it's like not having Aberdeen and low. There's just
no flow in the offense. Colin Chandler, who had a great night, and I can't wait to get to that
later on. Early on, the ball just kept getting stuck. Pope kind of doesn't kind of. He loves
the space and pace offense, a lot of reading and reacting. And in that first half, at least
what I saw, just a lot of dudes looking each other and chucking up threes. And as I mentioned,
the threes weren't going in. Two for 16, Billy. Yeah. And according to Goose on the radio broadcast,
a lot of dribbling, no communication on defense, even though they held them to what?
Only was it 15 points in the first half, which the low ever was 11, and Mark Pope was gunning for that one.
But I mean, what were your thoughts after that first half?
I guess it wasn't all bad because defensively, even though I don't think Nichols is very good.
They shot one for 14 from three, and some of those were open, but you have to give Kentucky credit for holding them.
They shot 12% from the field, Nichols did.
Wow.
And a lot of that was Kentucky forcing into bad shots.
Again, they miss some open looks.
But overall, Kentucky did play well defensively.
A huge step forward from the Georgetown game where those guards were getting whatever they wanted on Chandler, especially my guy.
You take a step down in competition tonight and Nichols just couldn't get anything on that defense.
But it wasn't, I can't compliment the defense when the offense was as poor as it looked in that first half.
Yeah, it was bad.
It was really bad.
I mean, a little concerning, especially for the first game.
but you mention it.
It shows you how valuable a good point guard is.
And when Aberdeen was at the one in the second half,
and Colin moved it to the two,
I mean, Drew, it's a good night for the Colin Chandler fan club
to be hosting the postgame show tonight.
Yeah, I didn't want to jump straight into that dunk.
I'm still going to wait a couple minutes before I pop the champagne in here on that.
But you mentioned Aberdeen in the second half.
He got a lot more minutes, played with Otega Owey in the second half,
which I thought was important.
He was limited in the first half as Pope eased him in,
but you didn't see him get a lot of run with
that first group. I thought when
Chandler played a little more off the ball
and Aberdeen got some run at point guard
in the second half, the offense
looked much better. Pope even
said that. He acknowledged that
Chandler, his natural position is the two
plays much better that way and he's having to go
above and beyond. But Aberdeen, he had
six assists, zero turnovers. Pope said
that's his great, his best assist
to turnover ratio of his career.
It helped Chandler get going because
Chandler did not have a great first half,
but he turned it on with four for four in the
second half. Three of those were three-pointers. And then, of course, an early nominee for dunk of the
year came late in the game. Chandler drives the lane. Billy, he cocked that back. I knew he had
some hops. I knew he had some bunnies, but the cocked back like that, that's an NBA dunk. And he
caught a body from the Nichols player. And just as good as the dunk was, the team reactions were
even better. Otega Oway is standing in the corner, and he covers his eyes when Chandler plants his
feet to jump on the
sideline, I believe it was
Cam Williams who ends up just completely
flat on the ground laying down.
Rupparina exploded.
Without question, the highlight of the night
is Colin Chandler punches in his 14
and 15th point there, point, which
led the team high score. That's got to be the best
part of those posterizing dunks. Not only
the reaction of the teammates, but the other team.
When they're reacting like that, you
know it was a great dunk. And man,
Colin was just building that confidence. He finally
hit a couple shots, and then from him to get that
dunk, I mean, it really could be the catalyst for a good year for Colin.
I was worried about the fan club in the first half.
Other than playing some decent defense, he was not looking good.
As I said, no one was looking good.
Chandling in the first half went one for four from three.
Mentioned went three for three in the second half.
But I was worried about the fan club there a little bit.
I had a flash sale going on after the Georgetown game.
I mentioned on the pregame show, you can bundle your Colin Chandler fan club subscription
with ESPN Unlimited.
At halftime, people in Rupp Arena were.
patting me on the back saying it's going to get better. And you know what, Billy, it sure did get
better. It sure did get better. But you're right. It felt like he took the first couple
shots of the game and they weren't getting close. So happy for him building that confidence.
Happy for the young guys still playing well. Jasper Johnson had some moments when they were trying
to find a bucket. You know, overall, they were able to get to that victory. They didn't cover
the spread though, Drew. Not a cover. I thought that number was way too big anyway. Also, Kentucky's
team total, the over under was 95.
My goodness, not even close to that.
I didn't bet it, but I wouldn't have thought on a good night they'd get to 95 with the limited roster.
But still, big second half.
First half, as I mentioned, not good.
The starters, Otega Oway was one for five.
Trent Noah, Ofer, Mo DiBate, I believe, one for three.
Trent Noah, a big piece of news there.
He rolled an ankle in the first half.
Look pretty bad.
Stayed down for a couple minutes.
Billy, I was there.
You could have heard a pin drop in Rupp Arena while he was over there on the baseline.
He's kind of in a crowd by the camera crew.
You don't get a good look. Look, he hobbles off the court.
But at halftime, I don't know what they've said on the broadcast or what Pope's bit said specifically,
but he was a full participant in shoot around at halftime.
They just didn't end up playing him the second half.
So it doesn't seem like that'll be a lingering issue, even though that was a scare there early on.
Well, you may have been walking to the studio here, but you may have missed Pope saying that Trent Noah is a liar.
Called him a liar several times in the locker room because Trent was like, yeah, I'm ready to go.
I don't feel any pain.
put me back in, coach.
And he knew that was Trent just trying to get back in there.
You know, high expectations for him this year.
He struggled in the last exhibition game.
You'd hope he'd see a couple fall.
It was good that it happened to Colin Chandler.
But Trent's next.
And hopefully Kentucky can avoid that injury bug.
Yeah, there was a moment where we just thought, no, not another one.
Because we all know how last year went.
Completely ran out of point guards.
You've got low sitting up there.
You've got Quaintant sitting there.
Aberdeen ended up playing but didn't start, miss the Georgetown game.
so I thought surely not one more,
especially in the first game of the year,
and a fan favorite in Trent Noah,
but it looks like he'll be okay.
Still, when he was in, 0 for 2 from 3,
he and Cam Williams,
they're supposed to be the shooters.
Billy, how much do we need to worry about the shooting on this team?
Second half, evened out the percentage,
7 for 27 in the game,
which still isn't good.
But Trent Noah not hitting his,
and Cam Williams had an ugly night from 3.
Cam Williams did get a nice two-handed dunk in traffic.
But other than that, I'd be really worried and worried about him moving forward 20 minutes and didn't offer a lot outside of that dunk.
Those guys have got to get going because when this team's not hitting threes, that's why everything clogs up as we saw in that first half.
And Goose was begging for one of those guys, one of their shots to fall because as soon as you see one, it's going to be like Chandler.
You're going to get that confidence and you'll be a different player.
But Mark Pope after the game said that he doesn't even worry about guys missing shots.
He's worried about the amount of shots they're getting up.
He's still not satisfied as they didn't get over.
the 30 mark when it comes to three-pointers.
So I don't know, maybe it's early, but I'm a little concerned early on.
Yeah, and I know Pope wants them to get to 30, but when they were two for 16 at halftime,
I wanted them to take zero-threes at that point.
I did not want to see any more.
That evened out, but I'm still worried about the free throw shooting.
That didn't even out that well.
This has now been both preseason games and the first game of the season where Kentucky
is not shot well.
What they finished tonight, it looks like 12 of 22.
12 of 22 is not going to cut it.
That's even worse than I remembered.
Oway and Jasper Johnson went four for five,
so that says a lot about the rest of the group.
And you miss one or two that just kills a lot of momentum.
I mean, and it gets in the guys' head,
especially you saw that in the first half.
I could not believe the first half score was 28 to 15,
but Drew, we made it out on the other side.
Pope was proud of the 15.
I didn't know, but that was pushing a record for the lowest
halftime score by an opponent.
So they flirted with that.
On the free throws, Malacom Reno,
pretty big culprit there, one for six. But otherwise, I thought Malachi had a pretty good game.
Got close to double-digit rebounding, had some nice passes,
finished a couple of dunks in there. So the Kentucky boys, not a perfect night,
but he and Jasper did some good things. Noah was limited. But I liked what we're seeing
from Malacomarino. Brandon Garrison, still Brandon Garrison, had a decent night. Took a three
he didn't need to take. Contested three with like three seconds into the shot clock.
But I like until we get Quaintance, I like what we're seeing as,
Marino pushing Garrison for those minutes
because he's right on his heels. Yeah, I'm worried
about Brandon Garrison and his playing time.
I mean, he was playing point guard. It felt like for the
first 10 minutes of the game dribbling up and
doing some passing. That's
a guy that if he doesn't start playing well quickly,
he's going to see a lot of minutes lost to Moreno
and then JQ when he gets back.
But we'll see. I mean, he's somebody that
was in Pope's system last year, so you expect
some improvement, but definitely a concern
early on. And I mentioned
Aberdeen 60
turnover, assist turnover ratio, which is great.
Kentucky as a team improved.
Georgetown, they had more turnovers than assists,
and that was one of the biggest things I was looking for in this game.
I had five notes of things to watch for.
Maybe I'll go over those as the show goes on.
But one of them was the assist in turnovers.
21 assists tonight, 13 turnovers.
Much better improvement from the Georgetown game last week.
Offense still has plenty of room to grow,
and that will happen when Lowe gets back,
but they clean that up a little bit,
led by Aberdeen getting in there and running the show.
He had a great no-look pass for one of those Marino don't.
in the second half.
Yep, that ball movement got a lot better.
And, I mean, we've seen this story before.
When Pope doesn't have a point guard, it can be a real struggle.
And after that second half with Aberdeen, it just shows you even more so.
There's a brief rundown of the game here.
We have plenty more to say, including some of my takeaways from the crowd and just being there.
Lots more from the actual basketball, too.
And we want to hear from you, as always, here on the Kentucky Select Toyota Dealers Postgame Show, right?
That's the one.
I nailed it.
That's right. It's a little confusing.
But give that number one more time.
We'll open up the phones right now.
859-28027.
I want to hear what you thought about the game.
If you're even able to watch the game,
did you get logged in or did you have to listen to a little Tom and Jack?
We want your thoughts here.
We're here for the next 45 minutes who are an hour or so in Lexston,
a late night after Kentucky got a win in game one beating Nichols 77 to 51.
Drew Franklin with Billy Rutledge here on the Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's postgame show.
We'll be right back.
jogs it up the right side now picks up the pace puts two defenders gets into the lane loses the handle but garrison there to find it fires a diagonal pass to chanler turns down the three he'll drive the lane
Boom.
Oh, what hand in South Sanders.
Oh, my.
Welcome back in to the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's postgame show
after Kentucky beat Nichols 77-51 in the first game of Mark Pope's second season in Lexington.
Billy, you have to ask, was that some fancy producing there?
Do you always play sound clips coming back from breaks, or is that just because I'm so excited about it?
That was for you, Drew.
Oh, look, she's showing off.
And the fan club, probably one of the better reactions I've heard from Tom and Jack.
And how was Rupp Arena?
Did it go crazy too?
It exploded.
And I feel like on the way out, everyone felt like they needed to come up and give me a high-five
because I've been so adamant about Colin Chandler.
Even though it was a slow start to the season, and he still has a lot of growing to do.
We're not perfect.
I acknowledge that.
But that dunk right there, that's what I'm talking about.
Not a lot of people can do that, Billy.
That is what I see in Colin Chandler, that we just got to get dialed in
the right position, get that roster back, and let him focus on doing things like that.
And instantly became the favorite player of some children out there, right?
I mean, some kids in BBN just had Colin Chil that become their favorite player.
I mean, it was a great play, no doubt.
Well, kids, get in line because he's my favorite player, and I had him first, but there's
plenty of room on the bandwagon.
One other note before we get to these calls, I mentioned how poorly Kentucky shot in the
first half and Nichols, the combined one for 14 and two for 16.
What is that?
Three for 30 combined in the first half?
I thought something might be wrong with the rims
because there's no reason two college teams
should shoot three for 30.
But there wasn't something wrong with the rims
because during a timeout, a guy named Jared
walked on to the court and hit the $10,000 half-course shot.
So as I'm watching Chandler and O.A. Williams,
Noah and the boys not hit shots,
random student, I think, from the crowd just walks in
in the first central bank 10K shot of the year, he busted.
Yeah, that was in the first half,
so everybody's still missing at that point.
Jack said he was over the line.
Oh, okay. I didn't know that. I sit about as high up in the corner as you can sit.
So he looked like an aunt to me. But I know where Jack sits and he's got the best view.
Are you telling me? Is this a thing?
See, I don't know. I mean, they didn't break it down on air after when they came back for break.
But, you know, a lot of these companies sometimes they like void it when like the one little thing's off.
I'm not going to name the company, but many years ago and longtime KSR listeners and
readers will remember this because we covered it extensively, but someone hit a half-court shot,
and the company would not pay them, and we did some zooming, and it was right on the line,
and it was a whole thing.
And I think the lesson there is if it's close companies, take care of them.
Just do it.
Yeah, the kid hit a half-court shot when nobody was making shots.
Yeah, come on.
Congratulations, Jared.
Billy, let's get through some of these calls.
Let's hear their favorite moments.
Maybe Jared will call in and tell us what it's like to win 10K shooting a half-court shot.
Who's up?
Let's talk to Angus.
Angus, nice name.
What's up?
what's up guys how y'all doing tonight excellent good good i'm uh watching out of knoxville i was in
sports bar watching so i didn't get to see a whole lot of the game is loud and crazy here but um
i just thought the first half we looked like we were missing a facilitator somebody to get other guys
their shots we looked like we were trying to find our own shots and i think jlin low will fill
that spot perfectly when we get him back just hope he's healthy about next tuesday um calling chanard
dunk play of the night that's all i got go cats it's great point i agree play of the night and i agree
Jalen Lowe will change everything
that looks like it could be a problem right now
as frustrating as that first half was
I kept reminding myself
this is not the team that Pope built
this is not the team I will be watching here pretty soon
you know we're a week from Louisville game Billy
these are unique circumstances
I don't like it I don't like the Louisville game
being so soon but that's why those exhibition games
were so big just to try to learn something
about yourself before that game
because Friday who do they play Drew
Friday they play Valpo
in the second game
of the BBN United Tipoff Classic presented by Kentucky Tourism.
Then they will step away from the BBN United Tipoff Classic
presented by Kentucky Tourism to play Louisville
and then end it with Eastern Illinois next week.
Okay.
That's just strange, but you got to get ready quick to be able to beat your rival.
And you got to have Lowe back.
Look, I'm a Louisville hater and I will forever pick Kentucky to beat Louisville in anything.
If we're playing checkers, I'm picking Kentucky.
But I'll feel much better if Lowe's back next week.
I have some concerns if that offense, even though it got better in the second half,
if that's what Mark Pope takes to Louisville next Tuesday,
I'm a little worried.
Let's get low back.
But it sounds like he's been fully practicing,
and this might have been a precautionary sit-out
with that big game coming up around the corner.
Who's up next?
Mandy is next.
Mandy, thanks for calling in.
Hey, no problem.
A question, was that the greatest dunk in Rupp Arena history
by the Air Mormon himself, Colin Chandler?
The greatest ever?
I think
Dirk Minnefield would still have something to say about that
I remember a Michael Kid Gilchrist
Dunk against Portland
Darius Miller against Ole Miss
those come to mind
but it is in the conversation
behind Minnefield
At least top five
Top five
I'm with you
Top five
Certainly top one of the 2025
2026 season
Yes
Did you have another favorite moments
Of other favorite moments
I'm just ready to light it up again
Louisville next week.
I think that's, we're going to, the shots,
we're just going to start falling.
All right, I like it.
Can't stay cold forever.
Thank you for calling in.
Who's up next, Billy?
No problem.
Let's go to Chase.
Chase, what's up?
Hey, guys.
I mean, come on now.
That calling Chandler will
better be on the Sports Center
and top 10 tomorrow.
I agree.
It should be number one.
Should be number one.
Now, it'll be a question of
if people get to watch it on YouTube TV or not,
but we'll see if they get that fixed.
Did you have any trouble finding the game?
No, we have the ESPN select stuff,
so we're lucky, but I'm still mad at YouTube TV.
Me too, Chase.
I coughed up the money to Mickey Mouse myself.
I caved and I had to watch the cats,
but Billy's still a lot of complications.
Yeah, it was awful on YouTube, not YouTube TV,
if you just tried to find it somewhere.
It, you know, buffering, just random commercials in the middle of it,
it was torture over here.
So that's why you just listen to Tom and Jack.
Do you have one more thing there, Chase?
One more thing.
We're going to be forward to this Saturday,
and we're going to be at Louisville next week,
and we're going to have us a big week here, Go Cats.
I love it.
That's the spirit.
Go Cats, indeed.
Who's up next, Billy?
Let's go to Brett.
Brett, what's up?
Yeah.
I just wanted to call.
I got two tickets for the Florida game, and yeah, that was Arab Jordan Dunk there.
That was something.
But when's that low going to play?
We don't have an official word from Mark Pope yet,
but the way it sounds like he's ramped up practicing at our practice we attended last week,
he wasn't a participant, but he was in uniform and doing a lot of drills.
it sounds like he's pretty close being ready to go and just speculating
Pope will have him ready by next Tuesday because he knows how important that is.
Well, I know this is basketball night,
but I've been going to them football games.
I was in junior high when my uncle was in medical school,
and we got two tickets to go, and that's when Frank Curze was coached.
And both times they played Tennessee,
and they just got demolished.
Yeah, so I'm, you know, I just hope he can pull it out.
But, yeah, I agree with you all.
If he can't win six, they probably need to go in a different direction.
But I just hate it because of Cutler Bowley.
I live in E-town, so my cousin lived over there in Hodgesville,
and she had him in school when he was little.
All right.
We appreciate the call.
Yeah.
I like the enthusiasm for Saturday.
I don't want to confuse people that might have just gotten in the car
and we're talking about Cutter Bowley and beating Florida.
So we'll keep it on basketball.
But thank you for calling in.
I agree with everything you said about the importance of Saturday's game
and wanting Bowley to do well.
Can't be talking football, Billy.
No, no, this wrong posseum show.
You want to take one more before we take a break here?
I'll do whatever you want to do.
This is my first basketball postgame show, and I don't know how long...
You're in charge.
You're in charge.
And we did one last year, I believe, right?
Yeah, I think that might have been my first basketball.
and before that you all locked me out of the building one time when I was supposed to be getting in here.
Yeah, well.
But you butt in any time.
I don't get to hear these because I'm always in the press box.
So there's formats and callers and apparently you hate kids.
There's things you know I don't know.
So feel free to chime in and coach me if you need to.
Don't worry.
We'll hit all the bases.
It's just unfortunate we don't have a World Series game or something to react to here.
We're watching Fox Magic right now in the studio.
Yeah, that's exciting.
Well, let's get this other call in and we'll go to our break.
Who's up next?
Yeah, let's go to Bluegrass.
Bluegrass, what's up?
Hey, what's going on, fellas?
I'm trying to keep it down here.
I mean, bad don't want to wake up everybody.
I'll tell you what, I was pretty excited.
I liked what I've seen tonight, you know, not the first half, but you know what?
It's only how BBN does.
I was going back watching some Tulane games trying to see what's going on with Cam.
And I think, do you remember when Pope said he was making his shot a little quicker and they were working on that?
Yes.
If you go back and watch Tulane, like, you.
he does take a little bit more time, and he was making him.
I don't know if he's rushing him.
Don't you all think he's trying to get him up a little too quick?
Maybe right now.
Maybe tonight, but I noticed in the Georgetown game, he was a little slow.
He had some open shots, and he actually pumped faked into a contestant shot,
but it could be the case that he's trying to.
I'm not talking about the hesitations.
I'm talking about, so he just gets in fires it, man.
It just seems like, and to your guy, like, it's so nice to see him at his true position
at the two.
right, Chandler looks so much better.
He guards the two much better.
Like, that's what we're missing at point guard, the shiftyness.
Like, Chandler's one speed and low, like, he's stop, start, stop start.
And that's what we're missing that shiftingness in the point guard.
And I think when he gets back, fellas, I think we're all right.
How about yourself?
I completely agree.
I appreciate the call.
And I agree about Chandler at the point guard.
Chandler is doing a little too much dribbling.
And that's one thing Pope has really been preaching, especially below, is,
You know, we don't do too much dribbling.
We're a read and react team and get that motion going.
It just seemed like when Chandler had the ball on his hands,
he was a little indecisive and things just weren't moving as quick as they need to.
They were a little stagnant in the first half.
But then when he slid over to the two, his natural spot,
I think that's where he's going to shine.
Well, I think people have been worried who's going to be the odd man out
with all this talent on the roster.
And I think Colin Chandler showed that is not going to be him,
at least at the two position.
Oh, yeah.
Big statement tonight, especially that second half,
going three for three from three. Kentucky, really the whole roster needs to see some shots going in
and he especially seemed to turn it on in that second half. So a big exciting night for Colin Chandler's
biggest fan here and an exciting night for Kentucky fans after they won the first game of the
BBN United Tipoff Classic presented by Kentucky Tourism. We'll talk more about that after this break.
We got two more fun segments. It's Drew and Billy here on the Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's
postgame show. It's the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's postgame show.
after Kentucky beats Nichols in game one of the 2025-2020s season, 77-51.
Billy Rollidge, before we go back to the phone lines here,
and we have a full bank with some people I'm excited to hear from,
I want to address a couple of complaints.
Oh, right?
One, at halftime, as we've addressed, we weren't very happy with that first half performance.
Ugly shooting.
I saw a lot of the $22 million complaints.
I can't do a whole year of this.
Is that going to be?
I can't.
Every time they play bad.
If they shoot poorly for 20 minutes, I can't go to Twitter and see $22 million complaints.
Or here's someone yell at in Reparina.
Is that going to be the whole season?
It is.
It's almost worse that we know the dollar amount because not only will we say it,
but every opposing fan base after Kentucky loses a game too.
But you just got to let that roll off the backer.
I do, but I had to bring it up because I'm already annoyed by it.
And if we want to get technical, that wasn't $22 million out there.
That was like $15 million out there.
We have a lot of injured millions right now.
So easy on the 22 million.
The other complaining.
The CSPN thing's got to get figured out.
You were telling me during the break that you took some of Shannon the dude's advice.
I did.
And it was terrible.
I mean, unwatchable.
It was like four minutes behind what I was hearing on the radio call.
It's already a tough way to digest a game hearing the play before seeing it.
But it was a disaster.
I don't know how people did it out there if they had the same issues I did.
but is it like a was this like a bootleg stream you don't have to tell yourself we're just talking in general
you're not involved yeah yeah this was some piracy going on the internet well i mean if i don't have any
bundle to be able to play it so we we try to find means to watch it and uh you could tell a lot
of people were as well as i think it slowed down a couple times and whatnot but i don't know drew
even if it does get worked out these games are still on the computer right uh the entire b bn united
tip off classic presented by kentucky tourism is uh a streaming computer only game as matt would say so we got
getting figured out. So yeah, maybe I just need to get with the times then. Yeah, it is expensive,
though. ESPN is at fault here. They're stealing from us. It's way overpriced and people,
good, hardworking people like yourself shouldn't have to rely on pirated internet streams
to watch your favorite basketball. Now I'm paying only $90 a month to watch Orlando and Atlanta
battle it out in this NBA game. This is exciting. Valpo beat Eastern Illinois, by the way. So
Valpo and Kentucky control their own destinies in the BB& United Tip-off Classic.
in by Kentucky Tourism.
Quite the matchup.
Let's get to the phone lines
and I want to put in a request.
I hear our guy Jared is on the line.
I love everyone else on the line,
but I want to go straight to Jared.
This is Jared who hit the half court shot in Rupp Arena.
Jared, how does it feel to be the best shooter in tonight's game?
I feel amazing.
I'm still in shock.
It was awesome.
I heard,
so the reason why I'm calling,
I'm glad to call in, I love KSR,
but I heard that there is some
some controversy,
controversy about my foot.
Yeah, so I mean, here on the radio broadcast, we got people court side and they were saying that your foot might have been over the line.
Jared, do you remember where your feet were during the shot?
So I actually, a couple of my friends, like when I found out, I texted them and told them that I was going to be doing it.
And they took videos that I have where you can see, because I was worried about that, you can see before I take the first shot, I actually walked off the steps that I was going to take before I showed.
shot and I made sure the steps I walked off, I was a foot behind the line because I was so scared
of doing it. And I know for a fact, I didn't cross the line. Perfect. Well, good. No controversy then.
Jack Givens might have just seen it wrong. You know, he had a big night. He was busy. So no
controversy there. How did you get picked? Do they just walk up to you during the game and say,
hey, you come shoot for 10K? Yeah. So there was a lady that was walking up the rows. And I guess some
people even said no. So I don't even think I was the first one they asked. And they got to
my row and my buddy and I who were at the game, she said, did anybody want to do a half-port shot?
And both of us were like, we're like, yeah, like we want to do it. And she was like, just one,
just one. So we played rock paper scissors for it. And that's how I ended up down there.
Oh, so you had to win that just to go out and win your 10,000.
So the story about that is I actually lost the game of rock paper scissors
and my and my buddy was like he kind of saw how devastated I was
and I had the tickets for the game and I let him come with me so he let me shoot it.
Well that worked out perfectly.
Maybe take him out to a nice dinner.
Yeah. I'm going to hook him up.
Before I let you go, what's your basketball background?
That doesn't look like the first time you've hit a half-court shot.
No basketball background at all.
I was the leader of the student section.
My senior year of high school, I did not play.
I don't think I've shot a basketball in three years.
Well, let me give you a piece of advice, Jared.
Never shoot a basketball again.
I wasn't going to tell people you got two tries and missed the first one.
But now that you put it out there, you're one for two,
and your last shot in Rupp Arena went in from half court.
So I would never touch basketball again.
Never going to 50% at Rupp Arena.
I'm keeping that percentage for the rest of my life.
all right well congratulations and thanks for calling in it was good to hear from you
thanks i appreciate it go got uh billy before i get to the other calls i had i had another uh
note from the environment i don't know if this made it to television okay what do you got
do you know where they put the media where we sit this isn't a complaint i don't complain
it's in the corner like top corner now right yeah if i was going to complain i would mention
that it's my 16th season and my first seat was under the basket then they moved me a little farther
back then a little farther back and now i'm literally to where i can't go back any farther
but i'm not going to bring that up yeah i do have to bring up that i sit there
because that's the point of the story.
We're very, very, very high up in the top corner.
And we look to our left, me, Jack Pilgrim, Zach Gagan, Jacob Polichick, the whole KSR crew, Stephen Peek.
And there's Dennis Johnson, Jasper Johnson's dad, in the very top row of Rupp Arena, in the end zone that they don't even bother seating for games like this.
I mean, there are barely any people in that entire area.
We're talking two or three full sections.
It's pretty empty.
And Jasper Johnson's dad has his back against the wall.
in front of him, you'd have to go down 10 or 15 rows to find another human.
And that is how he watched Jasper play his first game.
Dennis couldn't be at the two preseason games because he's Woodford's high school coach.
They had games.
Couldn't be there in person.
He finally gets to go see Jasper playing Rupp, and he chose to sit in the absolute worst seat.
But I got to admit, kind of like a guy who knows a situation.
They're parents.
You know, I have family.
I know people, dad and mom can't sit together.
Just gets a little too intense.
so they space out. But I've never
seen a parent actually choose
the worst seat in the building, but it looks
like that's what Dennis Johnson's going to do this season.
Look, he's used to the limelight, right? He gets it all the time
being the head coach already.
So when he goes to see his son play, he doesn't
want the attention. He's going to the very top
and I absolutely love that.
A man of the people, one of us, going out there
and watching it from the same height that
the media is watching it at.
They do have you up there, though. They do.
Not a complaint. Like your ears popping
up there? It's pretty hot. Not a complaint, though.
just bringing up that Dennis sits there because I found that fascinating.
And Jasper, who had some huge moments in this game,
anytime he'd get a bucket, you know, he hit a couple threes,
I will look over and just doesn't move, doesn't flinch,
just locked on the game.
Makes me wonder, because this one was pretty empty,
not Big Blue Nation's best effort as a crowd.
When we get to these big games like North Carolina, Florida,
and it's sold out, does Dennis, does he like request that seat?
Or does he walk up there and ask someone?
one to scoot over because tonight I assume he just walked up from the normal parent section
because it was empty and set there. But if that's truly going to be his seat, do we have our
first parent that requests section 241 row zz? That would become a thing, wouldn't it? Like,
when the students go up there and sit with them and that could be a whole other student section,
but I got to think he just scoped it out after he got there, right? I mean, when it's packed,
he ain't going to be up there with the college kids and amongst them up there. But when there's
nobody there, it probably looked pretty appealing.
Yeah, well, something to watch, because most parents demand, I want to be as close as possible.
But Jasper's dad, he's locked in up at the top, and I thought that was neat.
I wanted to share that with the show listeners, because I didn't know if the TV broadcast caught it.
Let's get another call in before we go to a break.
Wilson.
Wilson, what's up?
Thanks for taking my call.
I was at the game tonight.
It was a, I mean, a wins-a-win, so I'm not going to complain.
I'm really glad we had the Chandler dunk because I feel like the game is pretty forgettable besides that.
But my question is, after the dunk, he did a little.
a stare down and said something.
I kind of wonder what his Mormon trash talk was.
Was it a G. Willickers or like, take that buddy.
What do you think he said?
I appreciate the call.
Thank you for bringing that up.
I too noticed that and wondered what Colin Chandler would say because that was a pretty
filthy stare down and he mouthed something.
I might have to go back to the tape.
Are you a lip reader, Billy?
No, but I need this breakdown.
If you can only do one more story on KSR, the website this week,
I need a breakdown of what he said afterwards.
I'm going to need to go back to the TV broadcast, hope it was zoomed in.
But that was some, I don't know, I don't know what the latter day,
what they're allowed to do when it comes to dunking on someone in a game like that.
But I have a feeling Colin said some things that might have been frowned upon.
And he deserved it in that moment.
But maybe not.
Maybe he's perfect and didn't.
But there was a nice stare down as the rest of the team reacted to that big dunk.
Who's up next, Billy?
Let's go to Ben.
Ben, what's up?
Hello?
Hello?
Hey.
I was at the game tonight, and that calling Chandler Dunk was amazing.
It sure was.
I see your favorite player on the team?
That was my friends.
We're in the car.
Maybe.
But also another thing, that foul, the charge call, I'm sorry, that was such a bad call.
You're right.
Thank you for bringing that up.
I didn't mention that yet, and it was right in front of the Kentucky bench.
And that, thank you.
I appreciate the call. That got Mark Pope fired up.
We don't see Mark Pope get fired up very often.
I've seen it twice in the last week.
He yelled at Mo Diabate for not paying attention in practice.
Startled everyone, Billy.
It was really crazy.
Pope's got, Pope can get angry when he's getting angry.
What was it?
And that charge call, he was all over the rough right when it happened.
It was right in front of him.
Well, I missed it.
It was on the baseline.
I was four minutes behind and lagging the entire time.
Made one of the players touched the roof of historic Memorial Colisean.
Was that Yellovich?
Yeah, Yellovich has been doing a lot of roof touching.
He's up there.
saying how to Dennis Johnson at the top.
Yeah, he's talking back a little too much, I think.
When you're a pro, it's kind of hard to come back to college ball.
I liked what I saw out of Yovitch tonight.
You know, not a huge game.
He had six points.
Took a lot of shots.
I think he took, was he over three from three?
I put my box score.
Let's see.
Yeah, maybe we don't need O from three every night.
But a big rebounding game, we had five rebounds, six points.
Only played 18 minutes.
So he's coming around.
I don't know where he'll fit in the equation when Quaintance gets back,
but that's one of those things that I'm not paid to figure out.
Mark Pope's got that problem on his hands, and that will get figured out as time goes on.
Yeah, no disrespect, but a better player than Big Z.
And somebody that – it's going to click at some point, don't you think?
Whether it be somebody in foul trouble and he's thrust it into the situation or just, you know, a couple threes in one game.
There'll be some Yellovich moments, no doubt.
Yeah, there's more to him for sure.
I don't know what it looks like when he clicks, like if he can be a star or anything.
But he's just going to get better with time.
He had a late start this summer, and we're seeing with each game just a little bit more here and there.
Drew, we do have a sponsored element of the postgame show, if you don't mind me taking over for a second.
It's actually got a new name change now.
The Johnny Rocker Personal Injury Attorney Moneymaker of the Game.
Used to be the role player.
It's now the moneymaker of the game.
Injured, get small town compassion with big city results when you call the Rocker at 270321-4429.
And we don't usually like to pick the player of the game in the Johnny Rocker, Moneymaker of the game segment.
But it was all about Colin Chandler tonight.
After a bad first half, he really turned it on, played in that two spot.
And as you know, somebody that Kentucky could count on to make a little money when they needed it.
So call Johnny Rocker, the personal injury attorney, the Johnny Rocker moneymaker of the game.
Beautiful, beautiful.
So we don't do those on pregame.
You do those here?
Yes.
So Ryan got fired and you get to do the...
It shifted hands, yes.
Well, I like that they're a 270 number.
It's a shout out 270.
2703-1-44-29.
Beautiful.
I'm a 270.
I won't do the other seven digits.
But shout out Western Kentucky.
Yeah, Western Kentucky.
I know it very well being up on the hill.
Yeah, former Hilltopper.
Let's take a quick break.
Do we have more calls, run through those?
We've got a few more nuggets from the game.
Big night.
We're excited.
We're moving on in the BBN United Tipoff Classic
presented by Kentucky Tourism.
Drew Franklin and Billy Rutledge here
on the Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's
post game show live from downtown Lexington.
We'll be right back.
We're back for one last segment
of the Central Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's post-game show
after Kentucky beat Nichols
77.
51, Drew Franklin here, Billy Relage, who I think lives in this studio.
This month, I do.
I had a long day, but I feel like you had a longer day.
Pre-show, what time you get here?
8.30.
Did you get a little break in the afternoon?
I did. I went and got lunch.
Okay.
So you ate. That's a big day.
I ate and sent some emails outside of the studio.
But you know what? It's a grind, man.
This month, crossover season, you know, you're no stranger to it with all the articles you're pumping out.
So sometimes we sleep in.
see our families, but it's fun. The one time I saw you at 2.30 in the morning on Winchester
Road after a game was funny. We're the only two cars at a light. Yeah, that happens. But not
complaining there. Fun night. Love doing this. Love the opportunity to fill in on the postgame show.
And good to see you because you're going to give me some recipes. That's right
maybe later tonight. Do you have any that you can share? I mean, I will give you some recipes.
I don't want to stay up any later to talk cooking unless you want to. We've been talking cooking a lot.
Yeah. I digress. I'll teach you that another time. I'm into soup season right now, Billy. In fact,
when I get home, I have a nice bowl of corn.
and Poblano chowder that I made yesterday
waiting for me because I didn't get to go home today
and eat it for lunch. So I'm very excited about that.
I'm jealous of that. Let's save that for another time, though. I think people
are excited about the cats. Let's do it. Unless you want to talk soup, then we can.
Who's up? We got five left. Let's go to Trey.
Trey. And talk super basketball,
which other direction you want to go. It's all you.
What's up, Drew? What's up, Billy?
Hey, so
last year I was talking
to Matt about how good
I think Colin Chandler could actually be.
I actually could foresee this kid being a lottery pick.
I mean, I really do.
And let's not forget, I mean, he was,
what was he ranked in the top 100 at one point before he did his mission trip,
like 25th overall, if I recall that right?
Yeah, he was a four-star recruit.
It was big on the AAU scene, but just had those unique circumstances
we had to step away.
Yeah.
So outside of that, my takeaway from the night, poor first half, of course, we all saw that.
But, you know, I think the shots will start falling.
You know, Williams is too good of a shooter.
Chandler is a good shooter.
Doe is a good shooter.
Obviously, you got hurt.
You know, that was unfortunate.
But I think we'll be okay, especially when we get healthy.
we'll really see what this team can end up ultimately being.
So that's all I got, fellas.
All right.
Appreciate you calling in.
I agree with him about Chandler.
I don't want to sound like I keep making excuses for Chandler because he's had some bad games,
but I feel like he keeps getting told,
are you got to go play point guard now when that's never been what he's here to do.
I hadn't been practicing that way much.
You know, you had Aberdeen in that spot, Jasper Johnson learning it.
So sure he's not the best point guard on the team.
But when this team is at full strength, Billy, he's not going to have to play point guard.
I hate to just dismiss what we've seen the last few weeks.
But as soon as Lowe's back, this is all going to look completely different.
Yeah, it's about playing your role.
And he's just gotten shifted into a completely different role than what he's comfortable with.
But what was it about Nick Richards that led to the same conclusion with Colin Chandler?
Same system.
It's a system play for me.
Nick Richards, people forget this.
He didn't play basketball for a long time.
Like he picked it up as like a junior in high school or something.
So of course a guy who's only played a couple years will need a little longer than
everyone else on the court with him who's grown up with the basketball.
That's fair.
So I just gave freshman Nick Richards more time.
I thought it was unfair to throw him aside when he was out skateboarding and playing soccer
when everyone else was playing basketball.
And then what happened?
Oh, just a little behind the normal schedule.
He clicked and it was great.
It's the same thing for Colin Chandler.
He's been playing basketball forever.
but that year away, I think, took a lot of his growth away,
and he just needs to be graded a little differently.
And you don't have to throw him away as early as a lot of people wanted to last year.
And not the same circumstances,
but similar in how they haven't had a basketball in their hands at every moment
as most of the players we see come in.
I like this.
This is your edge is you find guys that either take a break from basketball,
maybe they have a passion outside of the sport
and really the second year of development maybe that they start to make that jump.
And both of them for their respective position.
very athletic.
Nick Richards is a very athletic dude,
and even when he couldn't hold on to the bar,
catch a pass,
I thought that guy's going to figure out
how to catch a pass.
You can't teach people that big
to run a jump like that.
So that's kind of how I got there with Chandler.
Chandler's got that NBA athleticism.
I would love for him to be a lottery pick,
like our caller said.
That's a big stretch.
We might put that up,
a poster up in the fan club headquarters
for a dream,
but I do think he has some unique athleticism
for two-garden.
Well, that second half really helped.
the show. I mean, it had been a much different fan club
show if it was just the first half
we had to go off of for Colin Chandler tonight.
Fan club ain't dead yet. We're just getting started.
Who's up next? Joel. Joel, what's up?
That was almost my name, by the way.
Joel? Random fact. There you go.
I was almost a Joe. They went with Andrew.
Yep. What's up, Joel? Could have been you.
Hey, can you all hear me?
We can. What's up?
I'm sorry, my dog.
He told me something.
window there.
I got a couple
things for you if you
got time.
Do you know
which SEC
team
is actually
an acronym
and you can call
a quarry price.
Maybe he can help you
but
those thing was
Matt was talking about the best shows that you guys ever done.
And to me, the one that you guys did with
Brother Were Out to, whatever that movie is.
Brother Were Art Thel, yeah, okay. I'm with you.
But I know that you like Forrest Gump.
I do. I do like Forrest Gump.
I would like to see if everybody that could call in and would do, you know, the Forrest Gump thing.
And my initial one is, you know, all right.
You get over there?
We need to check on that dog.
I know.
He's going crazy.
All right.
Why don't you go check on him?
and Billy and I will wrap up this show in this game recap.
It's Colin Chandler.
Is that the best dunk we've seen in many years?
Yes.
And that may have been one of the worst calls.
Yeah, I was actually asking him that to get him on track.
Oh, I got on him.
No, that's all right.
I appreciate it.
I enjoy the call.
And we were going to get there.
I just think he's getting a little sleepy.
We'll get that thought out next time.
But thanks for calling in.
That damn squirrel outside the window.
The damn dog.
Mixing a few waters, too.
Who's up next?
We've got three more.
Let's go to Josh.
Josh, what's up?
Hey, thanks for taking my call.
I got a question.
What's the status on Reese?
Oh, Reese Potter?
That's a good question.
Tonight, with the minute left,
Zach Toh and Walker Horn got in,
but Reese did not.
So I'm not sure.
I thought there'd be an opportunity to put him in there.
And last week in the five-on-five scrimmage we saw at Family Day,
he didn't participate kind of a numbers game.
Odd man out.
He was 11th.
But I don't know why we haven't, we didn't see him tonight in mop-up duty.
I was okay, I just didn't know if he's injured or, you know, I haven't read or seen.
I thought maybe y'all might know something.
That's the reason why I was asking to go-cats.
Go-Cats, thanks for calling and asking.
And, you know, maybe I should know that since I'm hosting the post-game show.
But I haven't heard anything to Pope.
Did he say any Reese Potter stuff while I was walking through downtown?
I'll be honest.
I wasn't listening for the Reese Potter news.
Didn't know that he was injured.
But that's a guy, I guess, if push came to shut.
he'd have to be thrusted in there at some point, but
I don't know if he'll be a big part of this.
He didn't Braden Hawthorne.
Yeah, those are really the two odd men out?
Nothing against him, but enjoy the ride with this team and where he are.
It can be a big piece next year,
but I just think it's too loaded in front of those guys with,
at least on Hawthorne's in, some growing to do.
But I don't know if Potter's heard or not.
It would have been good to see him get in when the other guys got in there at the end.
Two more left.
Okay, who's up next?
Let's go to Steph.
The same Steph I just saw downtown a little bit ago.
Is this our regular KSR caller, Steph?
Well, hello again, Steph.
My two favorite people, Billy and Drew.
Oh, how about that?
I'll be sure to tell the others.
Thank you, Steph.
As you know, Drew, Billy, this was my first basketball game.
I enjoyed it.
How about that, Billy?
Steph's first game.
She calls the shows, watches all of them,
but tonight was her first time in Rupp Arena.
That's amazing, Steph.
And they got a win for you.
That must have been an awesome night.
What was your favorite part, Steph?
The ladies of KSR, she has season tickets, and she was nice enough to give me her two tickets for the night so I could go.
Oh, that is very nice of sharing.
You all have a great thing going with that Ladies of KSR group.
I don't know what happens because it's private, and it's for the ladies.
You could be talking about us, but it seems you all have a good community over there.
I'm glad you got tickets.
Colin Chandler Dunk was amazing.
It sure was.
And thank you for coming to our rapid reaction outside the arena.
It was good to talk to you.
No problem. Hey, I wanted to tell you, I had my flag football state tournament last Sunday, and we won gold.
Oh, that's awesome. Congrats, Steph.
Yep.
All right. Well, thanks for calling in and letting us know. I appreciate it.
You know, Bill, Steph's a big Titans fan, so it's nice of her, nice that she gets to see a win on a Sunday.
As a Titans fan, we don't get to do a lot of celebrating on Sundays, but Steph sounds like she just won golden flag football.
I'm so sorry, Steph. You can change your, at least.
allegiance to a team if it gets this bad like the Titans.
I like how the night I get the postgame show happens to be the night that every caller
just wants to say how awesome Colin Chandler's do.
It was perfect.
It was kind of like fate that I get this moment.
It is.
It is.
Now I think all of our expectations are as high as you had them for Colin Chandler this year.
Mine are pretty dang high though, but it's nice that people are catching up to me, starting
to have those conversations.
We got one more?
Yeah, let's go to Brad.
Is this the last one?
It is.
Brett, send us home with a good call.
No pressure.
Hey, I just wanted to say I live here in Fort Worth, Texas,
and I was watching the first half on my phone here in Chick-Pillate my son was playing,
and a pretty good thing that I was because I was trying to really contain myself
from how frustrated I was, but it was definitely good to see that pulled away in the second half,
but I had to really contain myself from not making a team in front of my son.
There's plenty of frustration, especially that first half.
Do you have any lingering frustrations moving forward, like free-throw shooting, anything in particular,
that worried you or do they solve some of it in the second half?
I think they were just taking a lot of bad shots for like no other reason
and just to just to kind of do it.
And that was kind of frustrating.
But hopefully Mark Pope was like, let's just take the easy stuff, you know,
just get into the basket and then just take what the Davis is giving you.
Yeah, I don't know if we'll get a journey video from this.
And I appreciate the call.
Sorry, I had to go through that in Chick-fil-A being frustrated.
I don't know if we'll get the behind-the-scenes,
but I would love to know what Pope did at halftime
because they looked like a completely different.
team. They did. They came out quick. Aberdeen was at the point. Collin was at the two. He was pretty
optimistic going into halftime too. I mean, you'd think after that type of shooting performance,
but the first thing he said was they had seven kills in the first half, which is a kills,
I think, three stops in a row. So, I mean, they were, there was a great night defensively. So
he was keeping it into perspective. Yeah, I mentioned the kills, but when in the first half,
when the other team is one for 14 from 3,
12% from the field overall.
Pretty easy to get kills.
Well, I mean, you got to credit the defense too.
Yeah, yeah, no.
They never force them into bad shots,
but Nichols just couldn't get anything going.
Even their open corner threes.
I feel like, I'm slipping my mind on the player.
Maybe number nine,
I think he had like eight open corner threes and missed all of them.
Well, I don't think he missed any in the secret scrimmage
against the team that was picked to win their conference earlier this year.
That's true.
We didn't get to find out what happened there,
but it doesn't matter anymore because we can now move on from Nichols.
77.51.
On to dimes.
On to Dimes. On to Valpo Friday night.
Valpo. Game two of the BB and United Tip-Off Classic, presented by Kentucky Town.
And then it's Louisville Tuesday, right?
And then it's Louisville. The fact that that is now about to be less than a week away is outrageous.
And how are you feeling?
Lowe, please come back ASAP.
I love this team so far.
Got a lot to work on.
But I love them a lot more of Jalen Lowe is wearing a uniform and participating in the Yom Center next Tuesday.
Well, you got to have Aberdeen or Lowe, one of the two.
Definitely.
I feel like this team's a lot different without one of those two at point.
Got to get my king Colin Chandler off the ball.
He doesn't need those other responsibilities.
He's got his own stuff he's got to do.
How was our post game show tonight, Billy?
Give me a great.
I enjoyed it.
Be honest.
Like a C minus, D plus?
You know, it was the first game of the year.
And besides the Colin Chandler dunk, I think I agree with the caller,
maybe a forgettable game.
But you brought the energy.
We had the guy that hit the half court shot.
Tell me I was wrong.
and he didn't step on the line.
So it was a great B-plus A-minus show for you, Drew.
I think he said Jack was wrong,
because you were just quoting Jack Givens.
Well, I'll fall on the sort.
I mean, Jack wasn't the one calling anybody out.
It was me.
So I'll fall on it, but God, I love this show
where you can just say something like that.
And then they call in?
And then they call in.
That was pretty cool.
We just manifested that and it happened.
It's the power of KSR,
just like the non-injury collision
next to the jingle bell road or whatever it was
that you guys talked about today.
That was a nice KSR curse yesterday.
You know, I don't want to pick on Jack.
We've called him out for this tow thing that I don't even know that he said.
I'm just trusting you.
I've made it a bit.
But I have a Jack.
There was a Jack moment tonight.
Oh, tell me.
Well, yeah, they were celebrating him today, right?
They were.
They brought out Jack Givens and Rick Roby and recognized them at half court during a timeout
because they linked up for the first points in Rupp Arena history.
And tonight marked the 50th season of Roperina.
So a little moment with Jack Givens and Rick Robby at midcourt.
I didn't realize it was year 50 for Kentucky basketball and Rupp Arena,
but I hope they continue to do Rupp Arena things throughout the year.
And Jack was giving Rick a hard time because Rick was the center man
and then he tipped it to himself and then tried to throw it up real quick and got fouled
and had the first free throw.
That's why Jack was the first field goal and he was the first free throw.
Okay, because I wasn't sure why they were both out there.
I didn't hear the first point.
I heard his first point.
I'm like, two people was one and assist.
One was the point.
So Jack scored the first field goal.
Yes.
Rick, the first free throw.
Yeah.
But tipping it to yourself on the first jump ball.
Everett Rupp Arena. He was going for that historical landmark, no doubt.
He wanted to be recognized 50 years later on the night Colin Chandler had the dunk of the year.
That's what it was. I think so. But a fun night. Thank you for letting me do this, Billy.
And to Matt out there, wherever you are, I appreciate the opportunity. Maybe I'll do a few more of this season.
This is a little more fun than after like a football loss. I had South Carolina earlier this year.
That wasn't a lot of fun. Well, you come into the studio. So I enjoy that. You know, Matt's in bed by the time the fourth segment's going on.
Well, I get it now because it sounds like we had a caller called from bed.
That was a little weird.
Thanks for thinking of us while you're in bed.
Joel in that dog situation.
Hope he sleeps that off, but we enjoyed hearing from him.
But a fun show.
I guess we'll wrap it up here.
Did I hit my quota on time?
Do we do everything we're supposed to do?
Yeah, we're over time.
We hit all the sponsors.
You've done it again, Drew.
Well, I'll stop delaying and layering.
We'll wrap it up after Kentucky got the big win.
Game one of Pope's second season, 7751 beating Nichols.
moving on to Valpo on Friday.
We'll sign off here from downtown Lexington.
It's been Drew and Billy on the Kentucky Select Toyota Dealer's postgame show.
We'll talk to you in the morning on our regular morning radio shows.
See you then.
