Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Starting point is 00:01:35 Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hardway with your favorite therapist and host Keir Games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor. It signals to the world that you're not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to. Listen to learn the hard way on the IHare radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome, everyone. It is the local toy dealers, KSR post game show. Big win for the cats at home in Rupp Arena, 85 to 80 in a game that they had to win, fought through.
Starting point is 00:02:18 It was close throughout. But the cats did enough kind of in the second, middle to second. half of the second half to get a lead that they were then able to hold and get the victory. You can give a shout 859-280-2287. Would love to talk with you as you're driving home or listening. It was, I thought, a gutsy win for Kentucky. They needed it. Texas is kind of the epitome of a bubble team, right?
Starting point is 00:02:48 They were on the bubble last year, made the first four. I think they're going to probably be on the bubble this year. and when you play a team like that on your home court, you have to beat them. And Kentucky did. In terms of the thing that I am keeping my on for the rest of the year is, can Kentucky do enough to make the tournament, which still is my goal,
Starting point is 00:03:10 and that probably became even more true after what happened tonight. This was one you needed. And you need Saturday against Ole Miss, because then you're going to start your schedule, starting next game, starting after Old Miss. schedule the hardest in the country. It already was anyway. But it really is the hardest in the country. I mean, you have every game except one after the next one is against a team, maybe two, a likely tournament team. So you got to get your wins when you can, and this was a nice one to get.
Starting point is 00:03:42 O.A was great in the first half. Well, first of all, let's talk about some things that I think the team did overall really well. Drawing fouls. Okay. Texas comes into the game, leading the country, in fouls drawn, leading the country in free throws, leading the country in free throws made. Okay, that's what they do. They are, you know, Mark Pope sort of said. They're kind of a dirty team, but not in the way that you think of like, for hockey fans, the Florida Panthers are. They're like dirty in the sense of they're going to bang into you and make the referees call
Starting point is 00:04:18 fouls. And they did that tonight. This game had a lot of foul calls, but Kentucky matched them. and they did exactly the same thing, maybe even did it a little better than Texas. Kentucky makes 30 of their 35 free throws. That's awesome. And three of their misses were Aberdeen in the last three and a half minutes. Before that, they missed two free throws for the game.
Starting point is 00:04:40 I mean, that is really, really impressive, and it's why they were able to win. They held Texas to two three-pointers made. The two they made were two threes where Brandon Garrison didn't get. out on his man and let him shoot once with the shot clock running down. Otherwise, they might have gone through the game allowing no threes. I thought they played excellent defense on the perimeter. They said Texas beat us down low, and Texas scored 80, but we were able to score 85. I kind of thought Texas puts up a lot of points.
Starting point is 00:05:11 I think I said on the pregame show, 80 is the minimum. Well, if that's true, we held them to the minimum. And that's what you needed to do, and the Kentucky offensively found its rhythm. I thought, obviously, Colin Chandler was great in the second half. Scored 14 out of Kentucky's 15 points at one point in a row, made shots, but also was aggressive. This was the Colin Chandler that we saw a little bit in the non-conference and that we expected going into the year. We had it the whole game tonight. And that Colin Chandler, by the way, he will have to do that going forward.
Starting point is 00:05:48 And then Denzel Aberdeen was good again. had a little bit missed those free throws had a turnover at the end but made enough down the stretch to get the victory obviously you got great minutes from Moreno I might thank billy nate oates for saving our season remember when they said we he said we never passed it out of the post marino had six assists tonight he Nate oats was right you it's funny I think it was last year Nate oates said after the Alabama game I think they now know how to play and he was right And I think he was right about this team, too, because you're seeing a lot more ball movement since he said that. Moreno was six assist.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Diabate gave some good minutes defensively, although his plus minus wasn't great because of one particular stretch he was in. But overall, I thought for the most part, you got something about everybody. Now, the bad news, Cam Williams breaks his foot. I'm not sure that you can have much worse injury. luck than Kentucky's had the last two years. I mean, just think about it. Lamont Butler had an injury very similar to Jalen Lowe's. You basically lost your starting point card both years
Starting point is 00:07:03 when it was the one position you couldn't afford to lose in both years you lost it. You last year had constant injuries, nagging injuries, for Andrew Carr and for Jackson Robinson, and then Kirkreza is out for the year. So they had four very significant injuries. injuries last year, and even though three of them played through it, I don't think any of those guys was 100% healthy at the end of the year. And now this year, Jaylon low out for the year, I don't know what's going to happen with Quaintons. I hope he's coming back, but every game he
Starting point is 00:07:39 doesn't play, you start to think more and more that he might not, and now you lose Cam Williams. Now, apparently his injury is a broken foot, depending on the kind of fracture that can be four to six weeks. Pope did not rule out him coming back, but I mean, you can do the math. You would be looking at, at best, you know, SEC tournament, NCAA tournament. And I don't know how you can think that immediately that guy would come back and be ready to go. So I'm just going to, for my mind, think he's not going to play the rest of the year. If he does, I'll be very happy. But from my mind, I'm just going to assume he doesn't. So on a roster where you had 13 guys, you're now down to nine because they've chosen not to play Braden Hawthorne yet.
Starting point is 00:08:29 So what happens? Well, on the one hand, if you're Jasper Johnson or your Trent Noah, I mean, the reality is you've got to play. Probably both of those guys have to play. Jasper certainly has to play. but I think Trent Noah now probably will as well. And both of these guys are Kentucky kids who a lot has been expected of them for a long time. All right, guys, now you've got 12 games to do it. You've got 12 games to sort of be the guy that everyone has hoped you'd be since you were in eighth grade.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Like, that's what they have because they need both those guys. There's no way they can play without them. You know, they have two of every big man, but now at the guard position, you know, you're going to play Oway, Aberdeen, and Chandler until they fall over, but they're going to have to have a break, and Jasper Johnson and Noah are going to have to play. So it's time for those guys to step up. I think you also have to consider, Billy, do you have to consider whether you pull the red shirt for Hopple? Yeah, maybe.
Starting point is 00:09:42 I mean, I think you have to consider it. Like right now, what is the rule? I think there's a rule for an injury red shirt. Is that correct? Where if you're injured, you get it. Because Jalen Lowe, if he played one more game, would not have been able to get his year. Right. There's a medical red shirt.
Starting point is 00:10:00 But there's not a, hey, we could just play the last nine games of the year. Non-basket. In football, you can play a few games and still get a red shirt. See, I think there should be. But there's not. But the NCAA may change that rule, by the way. The NCAA is a lot of people think it's going to do to kind of keep these guys from coming in from other things a five years to play five rule. And if it does, I would assume it would apply retroactively.
Starting point is 00:10:26 So I think there's a real question about whether or not you bring Hawthorne on it. Because he plays the position you need. I don't know how good he is, but he's a body. You've got a situation now where if you get foul trouble, you know, what are you going to do? You're going to play Diabate at the three? Like, I think you have to think about it. And if I'm Hawthorne, like, I might end up getting that year back anyway
Starting point is 00:10:54 if the NCAA changes its rules. So I wish I kept hoping someone in the media, I don't think they did, or Tom Leach would have asked that question. To me, that's the question to ask. What about him? He's on the roster. Reese Potter's on the roster, but you don't really need another big. So I think you've got to think about it, don't you, Billy?
Starting point is 00:11:20 Yeah, I think you're right about Noah. I think we're going to see a lot more of him. It's going to be his opportunity. I'm fine with that, but I think you still may be need him. Because, like, they're going to be guys Noah can't guard, right? Uh-huh. If you play a team that has a Cam Williams as their three, Noah can't guard him.
Starting point is 00:11:39 I'm not sure if Jasper Johnson can guard him. so I think you have to think about that. And then the other option is, you know, Alabama added a G-League player today. Do we add a G-League player, Billy? Now that's interesting. There was a report that some guy named Dink is Kentucky been in contact with. I think that unless I got trolled and now, listen, anything is possible nowadays with, with, but isn't there, a guy named Dink Pate.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Dink Pate is a G-League person. I believe he's a guard. He apparently played for Jason Hart on, okay, Westchester, Nick's guard, Dink Pate, Dink, I can't say his name. Dink Pate is exploring college options. He's a 19-year-old former G-League Ignite product, averaged 18 points a game for the. the G-League Ignite.
Starting point is 00:12:45 I mean, can I just say? I don't need to know anything else. Just go get him. We could use some of that. Right? Why not? Well, locker room this year. He had 31 in his last game.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Who cares? I mean, get over it. Y'all don't like each other anyway, Billy. Well, that would be the one thing. Although I will say that looks better to me, by the way. What? The sort of like, you know how it looked for a while? The team didn't like each other.
Starting point is 00:13:09 I feel like that looks a lot better now. if you just kind of watch them both on and off the court. Yeah. Hopefully it is. But so I'm saying, I don't think if Cam Williams is out for the year, I don't know if you can status quo it. Because I don't think you have enough guys.
Starting point is 00:13:28 I think you have nine guys, which normally would be okay, except you have four of them are post-bigs. You know what I mean? Like four of them are post-pigs. Malachi, Garrison, Yellovich, and Diabate are all, I mean, Yelovich can step out. They're all bigs in the traditional sense. You have five players to play the one through three.
Starting point is 00:13:55 One guy gets in foul trouble. You're in trouble. Yeah. And with Hawthorne's redshirt, do guys really stay for five years anymore? Like, is that the plan? It just seems very hopeful. Now, I think more people would consider doing that now. because of NIL.
Starting point is 00:14:12 But I don't think Braden Hawthorne came to college and said, I hope to be here five years. Right. And like I said, they may very well change that rule to where everyone gets five years, where basically they say you have five years from your, I mean, the report has been the possibility of you graduate high school and you have five years from that day to play five years, and then you're done no matter what you can go to the United Nations.
Starting point is 00:14:35 You're still done. but between Braden Hawthorne and Dink Pate, I think you've got to add one of them, don't you? I mean, you're making sense. If you got five guys for three spots, I mean, it's just a number of games. Five guys for three spots, one of whom hasn't played in the last 10 games except for a minute tonight, Trent Noah. So, and Jasper Johnson, I don't think he's had a game with more than 12 minutes all year. So I think you've got to, I think you've got to consider it. If you think either of those guys can help you at all, and I don't, I admit that when I hear the name dink pate, that doesn't even sound like a real human being.
Starting point is 00:15:15 That's a tough first name. Dink. But I think I would like it. Phil, you could be a dink twink, all right? That's what you could be. Dink twink. You would be that excited. I know Drew is looking for baby names this morning, so there's one for you.
Starting point is 00:15:32 So I just, I think you got to consider doing that. But I want to give this team a lot of credit. winning this game was big tonight. This is one you could have dropped. This is exactly, now Saturday. I don't know what the weather's going to be like. That's going to be another subplot of the next 48 hours. Are people going to be able to get to the game?
Starting point is 00:15:49 I think it's supposed to start snowing during the game. But now you get to where if you can win Saturday against Ole Miss, you have a chance to still get the path for the tournament, which is where my goal is for this team. You know, I think I tweeted to somebody earlier. don't expect this team to win the ninth title. I don't even know if I expect them to get to the second weekend. But I want them to get to the tournament.
Starting point is 00:16:16 I like how they're playing with heart. I like that guys are starting to come into a role. And I think if you have one more piece, you can be the best version of whatever it is you are. And I hope they do that. 859-280-2287. We will take a break. Billy, I want you to learn some facts for me about Dink Pate.
Starting point is 00:16:39 I'm on it. Even though, this may be a person we never talk about ever again. If we're going to do it, though, we're going to do it like in the next day or two, right? It has to. I think the drop ad I saw for UK is Friday. So, like, literally, if you're going to have him, you've got to call him tonight. I'm not kidding. Well.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Like, if he's got to be, if he's got to be, we'd have to be enrolled Friday. Been playing in Mexico City. Fine. Get his passport stamped. Get him in here. We'll take a break. We'll be right back. This is the Local Toyota Dealer's KSR Postgame Show.
Starting point is 00:17:21 Welcome back. It is the Local Toyota Dealer's KSR Post Game Show. I'm talking about Dink Pate, whether you want me to or not. Somebody wrote me and goes, Matt, Dink Pate's not all that good. I don't know why you're worried about it. You don't know. Do you think anybody knows, Billy, what Dink Pate is like? Unless they're watching.
Starting point is 00:17:38 First of all, look at a picture at him. He's the same height and has the same haircut as Cam. Yes. That's good. That's a good sign. Plus, nobody, no one's seen him play. One person says, Matt, I don't think these G-League guys should be in the, in college basketball. Thus, I don't think we should sign them.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Whether you think they should be or not is a fair question to debate. It doesn't bother me, as I said, when the Baylor kids signed them. But even if you don't think they should, I would say. still argue you still get him. And here's what I mean by that. Like, I think there are tax breaks that are given to people that should not be given. There are loopholes to paying your taxes. That if I were in charge, I would say get rid of that.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Make these people pay this. But if they exist and I'm eligible for them, why wouldn't I take it? You can fight the fight to say they're. shouldn't exist. But if they do exist, you would be silly not to do it. Similarly, you can think G-League players shouldn't be in college basketball. But if they are allowed to be in college basketball, then you fight to not make them eligible in the future, but you take them now.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Am I wrong? No, I mean, you'd be foolish to not go through with the tax loophole if you're eligible for it, even though you hate it. Even if you think it's bad. you know I there I've thought this many times
Starting point is 00:19:14 there when I get my when I talk to my accountant a couple times he'll be like you can take this and I'll go really and he's like yeah
Starting point is 00:19:24 and I go well okay and I would think well if I was president I wouldn't allow that but you still do it same thing here you
Starting point is 00:19:33 if it's allowed and he can help you you would take it now the Hawthorne thing Pope has seen him in practice all year, so he would know. I don't know because I never saw the kid play. So Pope would know whether or not he thinks he could be helpful this year. And I trust his judgment on that because he's seen him play.
Starting point is 00:19:50 All right. Who's up first? Doug is up first. Doug, go ahead, Doug. Hey, I just want to know how they overcome not going down 12 points in the first half or 15 or whatever it was. Well, you saw when we don't do that, it's an easier thing. You know, I like the fact that even though they gave up like two or three, 70 or 90 runs, I like that they immediately followed up on that because, you know, against Tennessee and against LSU,
Starting point is 00:20:22 I think those runs were like 13 to 2. And by limiting it to 70, you were able to kind of write the ship and keep the game closed. They were, and it's pretty awesome. I've been turning the games off every night because I don't. like it. Do you understand that concept? What do you mean? What do you mean turn the post game off or turn the actual game off? The actual game off, because it seems like every time I turn it off, they come back and win. Oh, I know that. Oh, yes, for sure. Like you think, I did that tonight. I did that tonight.
Starting point is 00:20:55 They got up. They went on like a 70 run. I think we were up six. They went on a 70 run, took a one-point lead. I turned it off, came back a few minutes. We were up three, and I thought I'd fixed it. I never felt comfortable until it was like 20 seconds left or whatever it was. I didn't feel comfortable until they missed the three when we were up five. I appreciate. Hey, God bless y'all. I'm first time caller, but God bless you all hang up and listen to rest of it.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Appreciate you. I agree with you. I do that. Listen, I'm, I'll be completely honest. I do the turn it off for a couple minutes because I can't watch. I've been doing it since I was a child. I'm not proud of that, but that's the kind of, and I think it makes a difference sometimes. Well, it was just nice not to go down 17 in the first 10 minutes of the game, wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:21:47 Yes, without a question. By the way, I am really bummed about Cam because I think he was just playing really well. And I think he gives us exactly, you know, I think it gives us an exact, exactly what we need. Now, apparently, Mark Pope said he made a statement on the current situation with the NCAA eligibility. He said the NCAA may lose in court, but they still gets to decide who makes the NCAA tournament. So use that to bring some sanity to the situation. Mark's really smart, but the NCAA would be ridiculous to violate court orders.
Starting point is 00:22:35 I mean, when the court, I mean, Mark, you're a smart guy. There was a court order in Alabama that says a federal court, a federal judge said, I think it was a federal judge, maybe a state judge, but I think it was a federal judge, said you have to allow this guy to play. If the NCAA were to get in the way of that, that would be phenomenally stupid. What is he saying? They would hold us out of the tournament if we were to have some. somebody like that?
Starting point is 00:23:06 I guess he's saying the NCAA should say Al-A to Alabama, they can't go to the term. That's like using, you know, what is it? Using a nuclear weapon to shoot a fly. Okay. No, I'm serious. Like, if you, if the NCAA wanted to escalate this Alabama situation and hold them out of the tournament, when a federal judge or a state judge or whatever has told them they have, to play, have to be allowed to play, then you're just, that's, I like Mark, that's the silliest
Starting point is 00:23:43 thing I've heard Mark say. That's ridiculous. Now, with that said, maybe that means he's not going to go get dink paid, but there are reports today that they reached out. So if they did actually reach out, then that statement makes even less sense to me. If you reached out, why are you ranting about the idea of him plumbing? But I didn't hear the question. So to be fair, I didn't hear the all answer. So I can't say for sure what it was about. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:24:10 Richard. Richard. Go ahead and Richard. Hey, like you said, I'm really bummed out about Cam Williams. But, you know, everything happens for a reason. And to push back on the G-League idea, I think that, you know, like Sunsu said, throw your soldiers into positions where there is no escape and they will prefer death to flight.
Starting point is 00:24:29 that's why we've gotten Dindal Aberdeen to be a demon. That's why he's gotten Johnson to step up because there is no other option. Now there's no other option for Trent Noah. He's going to have to step up and he will. Because the best version of this team is not one where we go get some G-Leak mercenary. It's one where we had at least two big Trent Noah Gates, signature, Trent Noah Gates. So you wouldn't go get any, if you knew he was going to be, if you knew he was going to be eligible, let's just assume you knew he would be eligible.
Starting point is 00:24:58 and let's assume you knew he would be, let's just say it'd be good as Cam, maybe a little better. You still wouldn't take him? No. First, because it's chemistry problem. Second, because it's not Kentucky. We've been put in purgatory once. We don't want to be there again. But we're not going to be in purgatory.
Starting point is 00:25:15 These other teams are getting to play them. I know, I know, but at least spiritually. I mean, you know, push aside, Nato, push aside, Scott Drew. They're losers. I'm glad they didn't come here. the best version of this team. They've won since we have. I want to see.
Starting point is 00:25:31 The season I want to see is going to be one where we have Trent Noah starting, where he's stepping up into Cam's shoes, and Cam is going to guide him through practice and to making him the best version of himself, and we're going to have some very good Trent Noah games. I'm sorry I'm kind of taking a Chester role here, but I haven't heard Chester call here since like two years, and I miss him.
Starting point is 00:25:49 He's very optimistic. I appreciate the call. He has called since then. No, that's a completely reasonable take. I would disagree with you on the some sort of like this is some sort of spiritual thing not to take a G league guy. I mean, we have taken European pros. Yellovich is older than this guy would be and also played professionally. So I don't believe there's some sort of spiritual difference in playing basketball for money in Europe
Starting point is 00:26:22 versus playing basketball for money here. Now, the chemistry issue, I think, is a reasonable one to wonder about. Like I said, I'm not sure this team has had the best chemistry all year anyway. But again, this is something Pope would know that I would not. If Pope thought having a kid come from outside the team would cause chemistry issues, then he shouldn't do that. He could judge that better than I could, because obviously I haven't been around them to know. Did you find any facts for me? Yeah, here's some facts about Dink.
Starting point is 00:26:56 He's 19 years old, graduated college in 2023. He did sign an exhibit 10 and completed that deal in the NBA. What is an exhibit 10? I don't know, but this is what like prospects do in the NBA. Yes. Sounds like a court paper. But he is holding off on signing a two-way because he does want to keep his option open to rejoin. Okay, so he hasn't even signed the two-way.
Starting point is 00:27:20 He's not. So he would be, I would argue he has a better eligibility case than both the Baylor and the Alabama. Did they sign two ways before? They did, yeah. Or I know the Baylor kid did. I'm not sure if the Alabama kid did. Yeah. Or actually, maybe neither of them did.
Starting point is 00:27:40 I don't know. I could be wrong about that. Don't hold me to. But still, them not signing a two-way, that's good. The only other person I've ever known named Dink You know another Dink Well, in wrestling There was a guy named Doink the Clown
Starting point is 00:27:59 Did you do you remember Doink the Clown? No, I missed that Doink the Clown was a character Kind of at the low point of the WWE Like mid-90s It was just an old guy and he was in a clown suit Look him up so you can see what I want you to see him while I tell you what I'm going to say
Starting point is 00:28:15 Look up Doink the Clown Okay All right. I'm looking at them. Yeah. Looks like a, like, you know, they had Barnum and Bailey circus, but then there was a circus that came to Middlesboro that was a little bit more low budget. It was Doink.
Starting point is 00:28:28 It was like the minor league of circuses. I don't remember who put it on. It wasn't Barnum and Bailey. It was like Carnham and Faley. And Doink, the clown looked like one of their clowns. Well, Doink, for a while, he would have a little person come out with him, and he was called dink. Oh, he had a little dink with him. They would be doink and dink.
Starting point is 00:28:48 I kind of love that. Very few people. There are very few people listening to this who know doink and dink. But if you do, send me a text on the text machine, so I don't feel like I'm the only person who does. Apparently, Exhibit 10 is just a 10-day contract according to Mario. Now, I don't know if Mario knows that or not, but let's just go. I would trust Mario on that. All right.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Yeah, he watches the NBA a lot. Also, doink was paired with his little person sidekick, Dink, who was giving him. given to him by Santa Claus. I don't remember the Santa Claus part. I did not remember that part. All right. Who's next? Cannon.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Canon. Go ahead, Cannon. Hey, Matt. How's it going? How you doing? Here's something wholesome for you. I'm down here at Beth's Health right now, and my daughter was born today at 3.47 p.m. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:29:45 Thank you. So your daughter was born today, and you called a postgame show tonight. So it's postgame both for the game and the birth. Yes, sir. Well, obviously, when she was born, I was in a little bit of shock. But one of the first things I remember telling her, I knew it was coming, but, you know, it's my first baby. I'm only going to. I understand.
Starting point is 00:30:12 I was in shock. But the first thing I remember telling her was, you get to. to watch the basketball game tonight with your daddy. Oh, that's nice. And to me, that's what Kentucky basketball is all about. And, you know, for me, it always goes, God, family, Kentucky basketball, and I can't wait to experience it with her. Well, you proved it tonight, and I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:30:34 That's very nice. We've had this, that might be the first call the day of a birth. Maybe not. Actually, I think about that. Maybe we have had that happen, but it hasn't happened very much. So congratulations, sir. Mario was wrong about the 10th. Oh, Mario.
Starting point is 00:30:51 Well, his score prediction today, too, was what was that? Was the aliens impact that? Well, no, I like it. He needs to keep picking Kentucky to lose because we're undefeated when he does. We are 4 at 0 when Mario's picked us to lose. So I'm going to keep doing that. My mom says that two of her lawyer friends had a mother whose name was Dink. So we have Dink the Clown.
Starting point is 00:31:14 my mom's lawyer, friend's mother, and maybe a future Kentucky basketball player. Who's next? Jerry. Jerry, go ahead, Jerry. Hey, man, I got one thing to say, man, I'll make you quick. Why in the world would you not play Potter and Hawthorne? Well, Potter's another big. I mean, Potter's seven feet tall.
Starting point is 00:31:35 I don't think we need him. I mean, he would probably not get off the bench. Hawthorne, I think's a better question. Okay, I understand that. But at the end of the day, if you don't play Potter or Hawthorne, you know they're not coming back next year, but at least play Hawthorne. He's 6'8, athletic.
Starting point is 00:31:55 Go ahead and play him. Let's see how it all, you know, see how it all works out right now. I understand. I think you do it. I'm with you. Especially because I think it's very likely that you get a fifth year anyway. I think that rule is coming. So, yeah, I think that year is coming.
Starting point is 00:32:14 So that's what I would say. Apparently, Dean Pate has the same agent as Brandon Garrison. That's good, so we know who to contact. That's true. Who's up next? Ryan. Ryan, go ahead. Yes, hey, going back to either Trenton or a Jasper Johnson plan,
Starting point is 00:32:36 I think Jasper would probably be your best option. I feel like he can defend better than Trent Noah. Trent Noah might be able to step back and hit three. But the overall package, I feel like it's Jasper Johnson. Jasper Johnson is who needs to step up. And I appreciate the call. I said that when we lost low. I mean, we need Jasper Johnson playing 20 minutes a game.
Starting point is 00:33:01 And we need him playing well. It hasn't happened yet except for the first half against Tennessee. But we need that. So Jasper Johnson, if I'm ranking, for you options. Jasper Johnson becoming really good is the number one option. If you could tell me that tomorrow I could get the Jasper Johnson I thought I was going to get this year, then that would be my option.
Starting point is 00:33:26 But I don't know that because I just haven't seen it enough. And then I don't see Hawthorne, so I don't know that. And as far as Noah, Noah can play better than he's played. I think even he would acknowledge it's been a disappointing year. But can Noah guard the kind of guys we're talking about? And I don't know the answer to that. I really don't. I don't think that's what they use him for.
Starting point is 00:33:53 So I don't know. 859-280-2287. One person says, Matt, I've been to two Westchester-Nicks games this year. Wow. Dink is our second best player behind Donovan Williams who played at UNLV. Sounds like Kentucky could use him. Yeah, I think so. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:34:16 Michael. Michael, go ahead, Michael. Hey, Matt, first time. Who are? Glad the cats pulled that off. I got a little word there towards the end when they were kind of close, but Prethos really won that game for us. Today, I'm surprised how many we took. I'm surprised we got to the line so much, but I'm also very impressed we made.
Starting point is 00:34:40 I mean, 30 out of 35, again, and three were missed at the end. In serious time, I think I saw at one point they were like 26 of 28. That's winning basketball. And to get to the line more than the team that leads the country and draw in fouls, you've got to give them a lot of credit. Oh, for sure. And I just want to say, and this team has been cursed ever since Annabelle came in the Lexington. Well, that had nothing.
Starting point is 00:35:04 It has not been the same. Yeah, that had nothing. That was not the reason. People write me that every game and they act like me downplaying Annabelle had something. to do with it. Although I will say... We need a better priest or something to bless Lexington. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Yeah. Maybe I need to, you know, maybe I need to repent. I'll tell you what, if they get Dink, I will. I appreciate the call. By the way, apparently, see, I'm learning more facts. Dink is very good friends with Jasper Johnson. That's what we need. So he could help bring him in for the chemistry part, right?
Starting point is 00:35:39 They've got a friend together. He's got a friend. Yeah. and I'm already You're all in on the dink I'm already in I am I mean The only thing I'm more in on than this
Starting point is 00:35:53 Is watching these weathermen The next 48 hours I'm gonna give you a hint Of what I'm gonna do tomorrow, Pilly This is a little preview Okay And you cannot say this on the pre-show Okay
Starting point is 00:36:03 Okay Because Ryan's not listening right now So he'll find out live on the show I am going to ask all the I'm going to ask all these weather people to give a prediction of the total snow in Lexington and whoever's the closest I'll donate money to the charity of their joy.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Oh, okay, I like that. Do you like that? But it'll make these weather men go on record, okay? Like they have to predict an amount. And we'll see who's got the Jews. You think they're going to do that and set themselves up? Well, I want to see. it's for a good cause, right?
Starting point is 00:36:46 Yeah. I'll donate money to their charity from me in their name. But they take a prediction of what the total snow output will be at Bluegrass Airport for the storm. Well, you've been funny online the last day or so. You've just stirring the pot trying to get these guys. But do you not think that's a good idea? I think it's a great idea. And it goes to it'll go to a nice cause.
Starting point is 00:37:09 Maybe we'll even get other people to donate. but then they actually have to take a stand, right? All these slippery weathermen. Now, and if they refuse, then that tells you something, too, Billy. That's right. Not confident in their models. That's exactly right. They can talk trash about other people's models, but they don't believe their own models.
Starting point is 00:37:31 We'll take a break and be right back. It's the local toy dealers, KSR Postgame Show. Welcome back. It is the local toy dealers, KSR postgame. show. I have some news. You know, our friends at Commonwealth Causes. Yes. You know, they've been with us for many years. They do the bourbon raffles. They do a lot of good work in the state. They used to be involved with the NIL and now they do other things for charity. They are offering to donate $5,000 for the Weatherman Challenge. Right on. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:38:11 So now they have to do it, right? Well, yeah, it's for charity. You throw in that $5,000 with, I was... How much were you going to donate? I wasn't going to do $500. No, no, I was going to do like maybe one or two. But if they're being generous and do five, I'll do two. So now we're up to seven.
Starting point is 00:38:28 All right? So that's $7,000. They got to give a prediction, don't they? That gets their attention. They have to. And the publicity of the radio. Yeah, because, I mean, there's a little bit of public shaming if they don't. Don't.
Starting point is 00:38:42 Oh, yeah. But I just think it would be fun. It's fun, right? It's fun. It is, but their reputations on the line. But they'll have to get it on. I understand, but they'll have to get it in by, say, you know, Friday afternoon. Because it's supposed to start after that, right?
Starting point is 00:38:57 Yeah. Because anybody can say after it happened. Yeah, we got to have a deadline. You got to have it, like, say, Friday at, like, five. Then I'm asking if Dink's going to join the Kentucky roster. Yeah. I just tweeted out a. a tweet of
Starting point is 00:39:12 a gif of dink when he was did you see it look on look on twitter look at my this is what dink looked like when he when he wrestled this is not me saying by the way he's coming it was just me showing oh there he is that's what he looked like and everybody's like what does this mean matt
Starting point is 00:39:29 yes it doesn't mean anything it's just I was just showing it out there okay who's next Tim is next Tim go ahead Tim hey man how's it going good how are you I'm just hanging in there Listen Billy first of all
Starting point is 00:39:44 You need to Wake up You know You sound like you're asleep You don't want to be there On these post game shows Just get to the call Tim
Starting point is 00:39:54 I don't need you to lecture me About my energy How about you just get to your call So we can hang up on you Don't hang up on you yet I'm about to I like it Sometimes people need
Starting point is 00:40:04 constructive criticism Go ahead I'm 71 years old Now, Billy, I'm in Oldham County, and I run the transportation department at one time. Did you ever ride a bus out of Oldham County? I did, yeah, rode a bus to South Oldham County. Okay. Okay, and I probably had some, you know, some bad memories of you riding the bus for sure.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Anyway. Wow, Billy, take it. Are we going to get to the call or what? We're just going to talk about Oldham County. Yeah, I know. Listen, I'm really, I was born in Paintsville, but I grew up. All right, go ahead now. Enough, enough lead in.
Starting point is 00:40:41 Go ahead. Enough lead in. Listen, hey, let's go. We've won four straight. Let's go for five. But I wanted to pitch myself as the greatest basketball, Kentucky basketball fan ever. I appreciate the call. We're not doing that.
Starting point is 00:40:59 I said on the show today, I'm not doing pitches for greatest call. We're going to maybe have an event later in the year. We're greatest fan in later in the year, but we're not calling in. Weather now Kentucky, the Twitter account, which apparently I didn't know was a thing. That's one of the sort of Ryan Hall y'all like imitators, right? They say that the new GFS model slams Kentucky makes it the centerpiece of the entire store. Oh. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:29 Some of these, I mean, some of these, it's crazy. Even Bill Mac, even Bill Mac acknowledged today that he thought it was going to be bad. Any chance they canceled the game. I don't think so, because as long as the TV cameras are there, I think they'll do it. Plus, I think their snow is supposed to start around the game, right? So I think they'll play the game. I don't remember Kentucky game ever being stopped for snow. Maybe older folks can remember.
Starting point is 00:41:56 I remember Kentucky playing in the SEC tournament once it Rupp in a just horrendous snowstorm, I believe, in 1994. Somebody can check me on that. I think it was in 1994. They played in Rupp. We played against LSU and Geert Hammock. But I don't remember a game ever being canceled for snow. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:42:20 Leslie is next. Leslie, go ahead, Leslie. Hey, Matt and Billy. How y'all doing? What's going on? Okay. So I know y'all play golf, right? And surely you all have a good dink shot, right?
Starting point is 00:42:33 You know what a dink shot is, right? Well, I use that in tennis. That's what we would call, like, uh, okay, yeah. So in tennis, like, you know, you do ground strokes. I was a serving baller, so my ground strokes were not great. So sometimes just to keep points going until I could get to the net, I would just dink it across, right? And that's what we would call just kind of almost doing a slice forehand. I would call it a dink.
Starting point is 00:42:58 Okay, okay. Well, one thing I was going to say is if we get dink and he can dunk, then we're good. And he could also sign a deal with Dunkin' Donuts. And he could be the Dunkin' Dink. And then there's also that song called Skinner, Skinnamarinky, Dinky Dink, Skinnamarinky Do. I love you. So there you go. So I think we need to sign him.
Starting point is 00:43:18 He has lots of possibilities. You already got his NIO possibilities. I appreciate the call. That's right. He's, if nothing else, Billy, he's a legend of this post game show. I'll remember him forever, even if he ends up not even being a lot. Follow his NBA career. But it is weird to me.
Starting point is 00:43:34 There are reports today that says Kentucky. talked with him today. But Pope's comments in the post game, at least the video, I see, they don't seem to make sense, though. Why would you say that if you talk to him today? Maybe that's, I mean, I guess the report could be wrong. I don't know. But, I mean, I wouldn't think it's wrong.
Starting point is 00:43:57 It just seems sort of, sort of, uh, well, Mark will probably play it safe, right? Yeah. By the way, did you see there, this has nothing. to do with what we're talking about. But did you see Fernando Mendoza, you know, won the national championship? going to be a number one pick in the draft. He was asked if he had a girlfriend. Did you see his answer?
Starting point is 00:44:16 No, what do you say? He said, I do not have time for girlfriends. Girls of distraction. Distracting. If I had one, I'd be spending my time hanging out with her instead of watching the extra film I need. Probably some truth in that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:32 I mean, that's partially why I'm probably not married. While I'm doing this show. You were grinding so hard. I'm spending the extra time blogging and focused. Who's next? Well, what's next is the Johnny Rocker, personal injury attorney, moneymaker of the game. Matt, let's bring some energy to this. Injured, get small town compassion with big city results when you call the Rocker at 270321-4429.
Starting point is 00:44:56 And while I'd love to give it to Colin Chandler for his flu game today, we are giving it to Denzel Aberdeen. 19 points was 9 to 12 from the free throw line. In 32 minutes, he only had two turns. turnovers, and this award is just not for this game, Matt. He has played great over the last three. And that's why Denzel Aberdeen is our Johnny Rocker personal injury attorney, moneymaker of the game. He has been excellent. He's been excellent. And I think he's been, I give him a lot of credit. When Jalen Lowe went down, if you had told me he would have been able to do what he's done, I would not have believed it. I mean, he has played really, really well. He's going to make
Starting point is 00:45:30 mistakes. He turns the ball over some. I think he holds it too much sometimes. But in the second halves of these games, he's been excellent. He shot the ball well. So Denzel Aberdeen has really stepped up. And we would be in a way different spot if it weren't for him. He really has been excellent.
Starting point is 00:45:51 Who's up next? Luke. Luke, go ahead, Luke. Hey, Matt. Just wanted to say I was at the game tonight with my fiance. And Malachi Moreno was a presence on the front line with six blocks to
Starting point is 00:46:06 I think he deserves a shout out to. Excellent, excellent. You know who Denzel Aberdeen kind of reminds me of a little bit? He reminds me of Drew Holiday a little bit. If you remember him in his prime, it kind of, yeah, it's a similarity. I mean, he's definitely a lower budget version of Drew Holiday, but yes, I can kind of see where you're coming from. The rich version of it, yes, yes. And it just seems like Hope was never rattled.
Starting point is 00:46:35 I was in the lower level, so I got a pretty good view of him. I mean, he's obviously huge. So, you know, you could have a great view of him in the upper level anyway. But he seemed calm the whole time. Like, he knew that they were going to win. Like, he's very, very, very confident. And Colin Chandler was very, very, very confident in that second half. He had a step back three.
Starting point is 00:46:55 He grabbed the offensive rebound, I think. He had a step back three with the defender right in his face. A bigger defender shot it right over him. And I was like, wow. If he plays with confidence like that, He can be really, really, really good because he's very talented, I think. And I think he plays hard. I think it's just a confidence thing with him.
Starting point is 00:47:13 And to see him play with confidence was great tonight. Billy, don't listen to the haters either. You have worked how many hours today? Yeah, you're working your butt off, man. He does. He puts in big hours. He puts him big hours. And he also, you don't know, he also produced a podcast for me today,
Starting point is 00:47:34 which where I interviewed a woman, Cat Rosenfield, and that'll come out tomorrow. So he's been doing great. Kentucky had a starting quarterback in 1972, Billy, named Dinky McKay. It's meant to be then, Matt. Stars are aligning here. I've never heard that name before. What was his name? Dinky McKay.
Starting point is 00:47:54 Dinky McKay. Never heard that name once. Again, someone might be making that up because that doesn't sound real. somebody listening's got to tell me if that's true because that sounds like that wouldn't be real i'm also reminding dinky mackay so it was a nickname and he played here in 1972 yes i'm looking at 1971 72 yeah wow james dinky mackay i bet he didn't expect to get a shout out on the post game show also folks reminded me doink the clown's finishing move do you want to know what it was called i'm a little worried to ask but yeah the whoopee cushion
Starting point is 00:48:32 Did he bring out a whoopee cushion or was this just him? No, it was just a, it was a whoopee cushion. 859, 280, 2287. Let's take a break and we'll be right back for the final segment. It's the local Toyota dealers, KSR postgame show. Welcome back. It is the local tour de dealers, KSR postgame show. The SEC, Jeff Drummond lets me know.
Starting point is 00:48:57 The SEC tournament was 1993. I was right that it was against LSU and Geert Hammack, but there was a foot of snow in Lexington for that SEC tournament. People had to walk to the games. I remember watching it on television while being sort of trapped. Barberville High School, or as we say in the mountains, Barville. Barville had a basketball coach whose name was Dinky Phipps. He also probably didn't know he was going to get a shout out.
Starting point is 00:49:27 More dinks and dinkies than we thought. night. Yes. Dinky in 1972, McKay, that was the quarterback for UK, he led the team in total offense. He had 879 passing yards and 94 rushing yards. Impressive, a little dink and dunk game. One thing I wanted to note about tonight, in general I'm very positive about tonight. Here's a little negativity.
Starting point is 00:49:52 Malachi Moreno was plus 17. Andre Yellovich was plus 16. Diabate and Garrison were both minus nine. We just take a drop off with those guys, which is hard to understand since they've been on the team longer and since they are more experienced. Well, I mean, they've been in college basketball longer, in Diabate's case.
Starting point is 00:50:16 But there's a big drop off when we switch the bigs. And that's got to stop because we, you know, with Diabate, for instance, you need the plane because, you need to be able to play him some because of his defense and rebounding, but you can't have that big a drop-off, Billy, in your backup bigs. You're right. I'm glad to see Diabate kind of getting on the right track after he was yelling at everybody, but, I mean, I'm so impressed with Moreno.
Starting point is 00:50:43 Like, so happy for that kid. Me too, man. He's been great. Yeah, 93 SEC tournament, we beat Tennessee 101 to 40. That was when Alan Houston played for Tennessee. He had three points, and Todd Sabota, our walk-on, had four points. that's what most people remember about that game. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:51:01 Dave. Dave, go ahead, Dave. Matt, thanks for taking my call, buddy. What's up? The cold night here in Lexington. Yes, it is. I'm sitting here and thinking about, I had a Nintendo game that had doink the clown on it.
Starting point is 00:51:15 It was a spinach move with a little shocky, pulled his hand out and shocked you with it, so it was doinked the clown. I remember that very well. I'm old enough to know about all that stuff. Real old is funny. And it still works, actually. I still pull it out once in a while and use the old shocker on him.
Starting point is 00:51:31 I'm glad to hear it. True. And here's one more thing to before I hang up. You've got a really good staff. Drew Franklin. He's a good dude. I have a brain cancer. And he,
Starting point is 00:51:41 every time he saves me, he comes and talks to me. So I just want you to know, you've got great staff. And thank you very much. And I'll hang out and listen. Hey, God bless you, sir. Thank you for listening. And I appreciate you. Yes.
Starting point is 00:51:56 Good night. Thank you, Dave. Good night, sir. 859-280-2287. Who's up next? Bob and Jamestown. That's a great game, guys. I'll tell you what, Chandler.
Starting point is 00:52:12 I mean, he is really stepping up. 18 points. I got a little nervous there at the end, though. We had like a little slip. I mean, you know, when the UK beats Tennessee with 1.6 seconds, and then here we are down within two points. So were you nice to be? Mario this weekend.
Starting point is 00:52:31 Oh, yeah. Hey, telling I've got three ticket reservations, and this is going to be a great event. So we're at the Capitol Arts Center over there in Bowling Green. That's in the next 10 days. Malcolm X's daughter is doing a free public lecture. She's giving away 200 free books to the first 200 people to get in that. Malcolm X's daughter? Yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:52:57 What is she telling you? talking about aliens? The Warren County Library, Public Library, it's that South Skycap over there. What is she going to talk about? Well, she's an author. She's written three books, produced documentaries about her dad.
Starting point is 00:53:18 I mean, she's a heavy person. That's a very different thing than going to hear about aliens. Well, I mean, I could say it's, I got a while. taste and like events. I can see that. I can see that. All right.
Starting point is 00:53:35 Well, thank you, Bob. I've got three reservations if he wants to go. He's busy that weekend. All right. So who's up next? What an emotional roller coaster that was. Tori is up next. Tori.
Starting point is 00:53:47 Go ahead, Tori. Matt, I'm on the internet a lot. And I've never seen anything. Where does Bob go to find this stuff? That's a really question. Great question. I don't know where he finds these events. What forum is it where you find out about aliens at a church in Ohio and Malcolm X's daughter in Warren County?
Starting point is 00:54:09 I might actually go see Malcolm X's daughter in the right circumstance, but I would be odd to be able to find out both. You could give me infinite guesses on who he was going to say, and I would have never landed on Malcolm X's daughter. That's exactly right. You're right. But anyways, have you seen Chris Bailey's most? recent tweet. No, what did he say? So, and I'm quoting here, he said, the new GFS period, mercy, period, and then an American flag emoji. Oh, an American flag emoji. No clue what that signifies, but it can't be good.
Starting point is 00:54:52 American flag comes out. So it's, yeah, well, I mean, I think this is going to be a big one. I'm told that the last time UK had a game canceled due to snow. This comes from, uh, Big Blue History, our guy, well, John Scott, Big Blue History is January 28th, 1978, Kentucky versus Tennessee, was canceled due to snow and it was played a month later. So it's been the year of my birth is the last time, sir, that we canceled a game because of snow. Yeah, and I do have a basketball thing. So a lot of folks, there's a huge sect of our fan that's like, we don't have to do this.
Starting point is 00:55:35 We're Kentucky. And the downside is like, we have to do this. Like we have to get G League players if you can get G League players. Because if we don't, someone else will. And then that player will come into Lexington and beat us. This is Kentucky. It's not dead, but it doesn't really amount to a whole lot anymore because these players are making decisions with agents and a bunch of people. It's no longer come here.
Starting point is 00:55:59 This is a great place. You got to have the stuff. And if we're not going after every avenue we can, we've got to move on. I totally agree with you. And I think part of what I would, the only way I would modify that, it's not that Kentucky doesn't matter. But where it matters is it's now part of a puzzle, but the other parts have to be there too, right?
Starting point is 00:56:20 And so, yes, I think Kentucky matters when you have a great coach, when the money is equal, all these things. but if you don't do the other things, Kentucky's not going to get you over the top anymore. You know what I mean? So if these guys are, I am fine believing that these dudes shouldn't be players in college basketball. That's a perfectly reasonable opinion. I might disagree, but it's reasonable. But if they are, then what are you doing?
Starting point is 00:56:52 It's like you remember, sir, a few years, like in the 80s, when every other team in the world played pros on the Olympics, but we still didn't. You remember that? And we lost. You may be too young. No, brother. I was born in 91.
Starting point is 00:57:07 I have no idea what you're talking. Okay, well, I'll appreciate the call. I understand. In 1988, maybe 84, but certainly 80, I think 88, the rule was you could only, the Olympics, the Olympics changed the rule to where pros were eligible to play in the Olympics. And for some reason, the United States decided, well, you know what, we're still only going to have college guys. guys. And we lost. We lost, I think, badly. I don't even know if we meddled. And then in 92,
Starting point is 00:57:38 they were like, you know what, let's put pros in. And of course, we won. It was a dream team. It's one of the most historic things ever. But in 1989, when we refused to play, all we did was hurt ourselves. And at the time, the argument was, we're standing up for this principle of amateurism. Well, who even talks about that? Who even knows that the Olympics used to be amateur, Billy? Did you know that? that it used to only be amateurs in the Olympics? The only frame of reference I had is the miracle on ice when the college kids. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:58:07 That's exactly right. But that used to be considered a sacred principle. The Olympics were for amateurs. Now no one even talks about that. That's going to be how it is in college basketball, too. So let's say we stand up for the purity of Kentucky. In two years, when everybody is doing this and it's legal, what did you stand up for? Right?
Starting point is 00:58:28 you didn't stand up for anything except losing so if we can do it and the kid's interesting pope thinks he could help he could help i would say you do it let's do three more and we'll call tonight who's next Mitch is Mitch go ahead Mitch all right first billy you're on tired people quit they'd be into billy that's just terrible second anyone who's last name is pate my best friend in the world ray paid who's gone now was a Churchill down for years we need that guy because every paid I've ever met is going to be amazing. So I'm all in on Pate. And I'm telling you, Ray was the best man ever.
Starting point is 00:59:08 Third, I've worked at Microsoft for a long time. We have one rule other than destroy our competition terribly and mean. Is that if you don't know the rules, you can't play the game. And the rules right now are non-existent. So we need to start playing with whatever's on the table. table, we need to get whoever we need to, we need to spend whatever we need to, we need to do whatever we need to until it's not what we need to do. And that's all I got saying. Appreciate the call. Totally agree. I remember, well, the only times, Billy, I ever took up
Starting point is 00:59:43 for Donald Trump was during the case, and Mitt Romney. Actually, it was Mitt Romney first, when people were like, well, he didn't pay this and this on his taxes. And I said, the fact that Mitt Romney pays zero in taxes is wrong. But if he is eligible to play zero in taxes, you can't get mad at him for paying zero in taxes, right? You change the laws to where he's not eligible to do that. But if the law says that, it's the law's fault. It's not his fault. Same with this.
Starting point is 01:00:15 It's not Kentucky's fault if this dude can play. It's the rules. But you get it. Now, I would also argue, remember what I said about the Baylor kid? Remember I said everybody's getting mad for nothing? He's not good. Baylor's lost like every game since he got there. I think there are one in five since he got on the team.
Starting point is 01:00:35 So there's also a part of this. If these kids were like amazingly good, they'd probably already be in the league. Right. They would have signed a two-way or got drafted. The one thing that makes the Dink guy interesting to me is that he's a guard and he's only 19. And according to the reports, he himself was the one who decided not to sign the two-way. That makes him a little bit different to me. But in general, there are guys playing college basketball right now
Starting point is 01:01:04 that if they were eligible to play in the NBA would be in the NBA, correct? Mm-hmm. Yes. A.J. DeBonsa, Darren Peterson, all those guys would be in the NBA and playing minutes right now. So if a dude is in the G League and not getting in the NBA, then I'm not going to think he's going to dominate college basketball because he'd already be in the NBA.
Starting point is 01:01:24 Two more. Who's next? Brad. Brad, go ahead, Brad. Hey, I just wanted to say prayers up to Camilliams. I know it's a devastating injury, but as I want to know, do you all think this would change Mark Pope's stance on as far as Jaden Quentin's if he would try and rush him back more if he had plans to sit him?
Starting point is 01:01:43 Yeah, I think the Jaden Quaidantz decision will be Jaden Quaintz. I don't think there's any holding him back from Mark Pope. Jaden Quince is going to decide whether he plays. And let me say, whatever he's. decides, I'm not going to get mad at him because he's got to do what he has to do. But I think it's fair to say Mark Pope probably did not think he was going to only play three games when he brought him here. So, but, yeah, I don't think, him not playing, I think what Mark Pope will do because he's a really good guy is he will say, we decided. I think the reality of the situation is Jaden will decide.
Starting point is 01:02:29 that's fair that's fair well hey i'm i'm i'm up here in north texas and i'm going to be heading that way to kentucky in a little bit but uh prayers up to y'all is they're dealing with the storm yeah well you be careful if you're driving from north tex to kentucky you may hit the storm yeah that's true be careful appreciate the call i mean i think you are just as in a way the storm as anybody else because i think it's coming from north texas up here to kentucky although i don't think it's supposed to be bad snow till it gets up here so one more who's next Marty. Marty.
Starting point is 01:03:00 Marty. Hey, a couple things. Real quick. One, tonight, the weather's getting me thinking about around 1980, two, three, that time period. UK played in Champaign against Illinois. And the referees could not make it to the game. I've heard this story. They got people out of the crowd, right?
Starting point is 01:03:24 Yes, I've heard that story. I love that story. They played and they just got, there were three high school. reps that just were in the stands, right? Yes, exactly. That's amazing. Remember that. Other thing, you started making me think about Kreeza, Kirk Kreeza, one of my favorite
Starting point is 01:03:39 players last year. What ran him off from UK? Was it playing time? I think playing time. I mean, I think they had a lineup that they felt was already loaded. They decided they needed to get a point guard to start. So Kriza knew he would have to be the backup. And I think there was also, you know, a lot of the answers to a lot of these questions going forward is how much was that other school willing to give you versus what this one was, right?
Starting point is 01:04:12 Because I think Mark Pope really liked Kers-Kreasa. But, you know, it's one of these things like the difference between getting $300,000 and $200,000 doesn't sound like a lot unless you're the one getting $300,000. you know and then it may be a lot and I and so I think that was probably the the reason well the one thing I keep thinking is you know from now on starting next year we have to have two good point guard you have you have you just cannot rely I mean who would think that you know we have a point guard who's almost exact same surgery is butler surgery I think that if there's any lesson that comes from this year more than any other the two lessons that I hope Mark Pope takes. Lesson one, you've got to get shooters. Have to, have to, have to. If you're
Starting point is 01:05:07 going to coach like he coaches, you've got to have guys who can shoot the ball. And second, you've got to have two point guards. Completely agree with you. Appreciate the call. I think there's, you just can't get away. And I know that's hard because point guard is the one position where only one guy can start. I mean, Cal used to sometimes try to play two point guards, but it's rare. A point guard wants to start. And so it is probably hard to recruit two really good point guards because only one of them can start, but you have to find a way to do it because we've now lost our starter two years in a row. And it's just hard because that makes everything else more difficult. All right, folks, fun post game show. We get a big time victory. We're on the precipice of a historic storm.
Starting point is 01:05:53 We have two days to decide if we want to enroll a G-leager or pull a red shirt, Billy, a lot of news over the next 48 hours, right? Yeah, and I'm kind of with you. I'll never forget Dink Pate from tonight's postgame show. You know what? Even if he never plays here, even if he never is brought up again, I will always root for the best. What I like to think sometimes is about like Dink Pate sitting in,
Starting point is 01:06:20 did they say he was in Mexico right now? He's been playing in Mexico City. I don't know where he's there. I thought he played for the Westchester Knicks. He did at one point. That was one year G-League. Oh, so now he plays for Mexico City. So it's kind of interesting.
Starting point is 01:06:33 He is just sitting in Mexico City probably, hanging out, doing whatever he does in Mexico City, having no idea that in a state far away, everyone's talking about him. As one of my family members used to say, ain't life strange. Thank you all very much for listening. we will see you again in the morning. Cats win, 8580.
