Kentucky with a probably the performance of the year in Rupp Arena, beating Vanderbilt, 91-77. And what really was from start to finish. excellent game by Kentucky to get a much needed victory that probably ensures they will not have to play on Wednesday in the SEC tournament and will certainly be big coming for seating.

You can give us a shout, 859-280-2287. I am at KS Bar and Grill where it's been an exciting day here, both before the game during it, and now folks here some hanging out after. Right now, Kansas and Arizona are playing. It's 40 to 33 Arizona. of our attention was on Rupp. And I think this was Kentucky's best performance of the year against a good team from start to finish. They led right out of the gate.

Colin Chandler hit a couple big threes to start and really never took their foot off the gas going up 10 early. And once they got a double-digit lead, basically kept it the entire game. Well, all the way up at one point it was 22, but really stayed between 22 and 13 the entire game. Vanderbilt would make shots, but then Kentucky would make a big play. A lot of people to stand out. We'll start with Colin Chandler, five threes in the first half, six for the game. He gave Kentucky the spread that they really needed throughout. But he didn't just make threes.

I thought he penetrated. He was able to pass at the right times. He was excellent. Denzel Aberdeen, quiet, but with 15 points. Also, I thought, played excellent. Really good distribution. You know, the staff that I heard today, I had no idea this was true. 16 assists and one turnover in the last four games.

16 assists and one turnover. That's a pretty amazing thing to see him do. And he was excellent, leading the team and really playing with, just playing with a calm but able to penetrate and score. I've been so impressed by him. in the second half was excellent. When he gets that head of steam and starts going to the basket, there's nobody better in the country with a head of steam getting to the rim.

And then today he finished. Kentucky was 12 of 14 on layups today. We've talked a lot about the missing layups in games. 12 of 14 on layups. I thought Malachi Moreno was excellent. 11 points. He had four different post-up scores with his back to the basket, which we really haven't seen a lot from him this year.

One-on-one moves. he would get little hook shots or a little post-up moves. I thought Malachi was great. If I could just get him to grab the ball a little stronger, I think he would be, well, we don't want to be too good, or he might not be here, but he'd be in the NBA. But he is, I thought he played well. And then the guys who are the reserves, who, when they've gone in the game,

it has been a problem for Kentucky, I thought tonight they had played their role really well. Diabate's been really good the last few games. I thought he was again. You got to give him one shot a half where he gets the ball, but he's going to shoot it no matter what. But the way he finished at the rim was excellent. Brandon Garrison, I felt like had some really good moments tonight. Brandon Garrison played really good defense, I thought, for a lot of the game. Got some buckets.

Jasper Johnson came in, especially in the first half, and was very effective. And then Yelovich hit threes early. Didn't play a lot in the second half, but with 16 minutes, I thought, was played really, well too. A total team effort. When you get all eight guys who played a lot of minutes, when you get them all contributing, this box score tonight is what I think an effective Kentucky team looks like. starters play most of the minutes. Reserves come in, hold serve, starters extend the lead, and that's what happened. And I was really impressed with the entire game. I thought Mark Pope had a great game plan. They attacked. They were able to not make the mistake.

that they made last game, and they attacked Vandy at their weakness. They did just high ball screens. If Vandy did not extend out, they would shoot the three. If they came out, they'd roll the basket. And if they gave the guy with the ball a step, he would get to the rim. And really, Vandy had no answer for it. I thought it was the best offensive game. The best offensive game, Kentucky's played all season.

So you've got to be happy about it. And the impact of this game is huge. So let's just start with the SEC tournament. Kentucky now 10 and 6 in the conference, play at A&M and play Florida. I think if Texas loses another game and they play Texas A&M, actually I think, Billy, are they playing right now, Texas and Texas A&M? I'll check. If Texas A&M wins right now, then I think Kentucky is guaranteed to not play on Wednesday.

But if not, Texas will basically have to win out for us to not play on Wednesday. Right now it's basically tied. Texas 3,130. And if Kentucky beats A&M, it will also ensure they don't play on Wednesday. But probably by winning, they've ensured they don't play on Wednesday. And what's crazy is they now have a chance. It's a small chance, but it's a chance to get a double buy. If they beat A&M and Alabama beats Tennessee tonight,

there is a process they can get a double buy even if they lose to Florida, which would be kind of amazing, but that process does exist if they beat A&M. So the worst case scenario, which was, you know, you were going to have to play on Wednesday at 1 o'clock, that is a very, very unlikely scenario because of the win today. You also got your fourth top 20 net win. No team in the SEC has four wins in conference in the top 20.

That's big. because when it comes to seating, they really look at who you beat. As Jay Billis often says, anybody can lose a game. Who did you beat? And they really focus on who you beat. Kentucky now has beaten a lot of good teams with this win. And then when you get to the NCAA tournament, there was some talk amongst some bracket people online.

The Kentucky right now might be a six seed. Most of the teams on the six-seven line of the seating, they all lost today. So Kentucky is probably looking at a six seed today. And if you beat A&M, I think you can make a strong argument that they're going to be a six seed, which when you consider where they were during the course of the year, that's pretty awesome. So if you want to see Kentucky make a run in March, I'm not sure you could have had much of a better result than today. They had the three guards who, I guess, Otega Owe has named the three guards

Aberdeen O'A and Chandler, the three-headed goat. Do you like that, Billy? The three-headed goat for O'A. Aberdeen and Chandler? No, but they are really important. You've got to have two of those three on the court at all times, I think. No, I mean, they're not, they're not, they are the most, I mean, they are 80% of our offense.

And the three-headed goat, are you trying to say O'A can't name himself the three-headed goat? He can name himself whatever he wants, but. Okay. Well, the three-headed goat had a big. impact in the game, and they're playing well. You've gotten good contribution from four different big men, and then today, Jasper was able to play good minutes, too.

So I'm very happy. I think the results in other games have come out well. And so tonight, if you're rooting for Kentucky, I would say, Hope Alabama beats Tennessee and Hope Florida beats Arkansas. If you want to see Kentucky have the best chance of having a good SEC tournament run, Route for Alabama over Tennessee, route for Florida over Arkansas. Brandon Garrison sure did get smacked in the face today, didn't he?

First of all, that call, he should have been kicked out. And I'm not somebody who's normally kicked someone out. But that was after the whistle when he got hit in the face. If that would have been in the regular course of people, play, then that would be a flagrant foul. But to get hit in the face like that after the whistle, because I mean, I think the announcers, I don't know if Tom and Dane were 100% clear, although they said it, that was not even the foul, Billy.

The foul was before that. That was after the foul. So to me, that's, to me, I don't know how they don't kick him out there, don't you? No, they should have. But I did enjoy Doug Schow's trying to announce it, and then, like, the fans started booing him before he could say. And that was a terrible call on the three where they called the foul on Chandler. Uh-huh.

Yeah. Come on. We tripped him. That was a terrible call. I mean, I actually don't mind that call when it happens, but I don't think that that happened right there, do you? Yeah, he tripped him. You think he did tripping? He did, but, I mean, did it impact anything, I don't know, not the shot.

that i think when they kick it to the side to try to draw a foul i i'm fine with that call but he just moved he just kicked it forward yeah you can't be just kicking your feet out like that every shale's apologize by the way i actually thought the officials were good tonight i thought that was part of why the game was entertaining is they kind of just let them play and I actually thought Billy the fouls the officials were good what did you think yeah I agree I agree besides that guy not getting kicked out yeah I thought the way they officiated that game led to it being much more entertaining of course we won so that's partially why I feel it all right who's up first Adam Adam Adam go ahead Adam hey what's up Matt I'm typically conservative but I like to see the

pot stirred so I don't call Aberdeen uh Chandler and O-A-A-O-A-O-C. Oh, I like that. You know what? We hadn't noticed that before. So are you saying now, sir, that you are team A-O-C? What it comes to Kentucky basketball, yes. Look at my man, Team A-O-A-O-A and Chandler. I had not noticed that till right now.

Well done, sir. Appreciate the show, Matt. Appreciate you. Listen, those three guys. Those three guys have been so excellent this year, especially in SEC play. And, you know, Chandler, when he gets hot like today, this is a very difficult team to guard. When he's out, you see the lanes it gives away to the basket. And then Aberdeen, I mean, Tom Leach said that statistic, Billy, 16 assists and one turnover in the last four games.

Incredible. That is incredible. I mean, that's for a point guard. and he's playing 37 minutes a game. Somebody that won a title last year bringing a lot of experience to this team right now. He had such a disappointing first half of the year, and to turn it around like he's done,

really, I think he is the difference in the season. The way he has played, I mean, look, we haven't been great in SEC play, but we were bad for the first two games of the SEC. And really, since then, His shift, I think, has been a big reason why Kentucky's been much better. Who's next? Jake.

Jake, go ahead, Jake. Hey, Matt. I just wanted to shout out a three-point defense today because I know Chandler is getting all the praise and he definitely deserves it. But, you know, Vanderville shot like 70 percent, I think, if I'm right, from two-point range. And the fact that we won a game by 14 when that happens says a lot. And I want a shout out. Wait, wait, just say, hang on just a second.

Did you say, did you say they, Vanie shot 70% from two point range? Is that right? Yeah, Corey Price tweeted at like 35 minutes ago, I think it was. That's amazing. 77% from two. That is, now, that is amazing to win a game with them shooting that percentage from two.

Yeah, it was unreal, and I don't know what Vandy shot from three, but the fact that we won that game by 14, it just said so much about O.A. and January 9th, into career night so i just want to get them a shout out and appreciate you have me on yeah so you're right so vandy was seven of 28 from three and they were 30 of 58 from the field so that means billy they were what 23 of 30 of uh 30 of uh 30 from two wow 23 of 30 from two and we won going away Yeah, and UK's been so bad at guarding the three lately, so that's a big change. Well, they miss some open ones as early, but we had a hand in their face most of the time.

Nickel was three of 12 from three. And I think the two he hit were like back to back there, and towards once the game was over. Who's next? Isaac. Isaac. Isaac. Hey, what's going on, guys? So I got lucky today.

I want to shout out my buddy Greg. He won tickets to the lower level seats like Louis. literally right behind where the ESPN guys are doing their announcing. So it was a whole new world for me just to be in the environment. It was a great environment. But just real quick. What was the crowd like, by the way? It's so hard for me on these ESPN games to be able to tell the noise.

What was it like? Was it loud? Oh, yeah, so loud. And I know you guys are talking about, you know, you said the refs did good. If you were in the arena, there was one rep in particular. It wasn't even Doug Shows. It was one of his, one of his guys. One of his minions?

Yeah, they were just like letting him have it because every call it seemed like he made that was controversial was going towards Vandy. So that was just... Yeah, was he the one that... What was the call he made? I know which one you're talking about because he had a couple calls back to back

that were against us, you're right. Yeah, and everybody was letting him have it. But just real quick, I wanted to shout out. I'm a Moorhead State alum. I saw Rocky Atkins down there, and then right behind him coming from, I guess, one of the suites was Andy Bershear. And I was just shocked by that because I'm usually not that close to the floor. So it's just incredible. Well, I mean, that's what you said.

You were big time today. They had you seated with all the leaders of the state. Well done. Yeah, man, I felt like asking if we can get some legislation to keep that rest from ever coming to the state again. Well, you should try. I appreciate the call. So Texas leads A&M 4438. So basically if you would like to see us get a double buy,

then it is probably good for Texas to win. But if A&M wins, then that will ensure we don't play on Wednesday. So would you rather have the chance, Billy, for a double buy, or get rid of the possibility of playing on Wednesday? Which one's more important? Get rid of the chance of playing on Wednesday? Then you want A&M to win. Okay.

because I was at the Gonzaga game earlier of the season, and I felt like that was the lowest we could go, and they just kept fighting up a hole. And I want to get that double boss. It's very much possible, even if A&M wins. We just need things to fall our way. But I think this team can make if they play like they are doing today, they can make some big noise and marks,

and we should do a theme night for Florida, I think. I think we did deny it. No, if we went, yeah, I'm with you. Especially if we beat A&M, appreciate the call. If we beat A&M, then you could be playing in that Florida game, where if you win, you definitely get a double buy. And I think Rupp, if we could win Tuesday, I think Rupp will be electric on Saturday. Electric. It would be, that would be a special environment if you could get that win Tuesday. I mean, it'll be a great environment anyway, but it'll be an especially great environment.

Because, again, you beat A&M. If you were to beat Florida, now of a sudden you're sitting there knocking, Billy O'clock, going, well, why not a five-seat? Yeah, right. Yeah, that would be big. Just end the season with that momentum, too. Oh, yeah. This was, listen, this was a massive win for Kentucky today. Even if they lose the last two, this was a massive win for them.

And we'll see it when we're announcing these brackets here in a couple weeks. Who's next? Jason. Jason. go ahead jason hey mad how's it going tonight i'm doing wonderful well here's what i got to say i got to sit in the lower bowl tonight too and um i feel like we just need a change around the the stigma of the old people just they don't want to stand up and it's like we could have we were up 20 at one point right and if if the lower bowl gets into it we can extend the 30 and i feel like

a week ago, I'm defeated at home in the SEC. If just the rich people just would stand up, cheer it a little bit, you know, you can get behind this team and just keep rolling. So you, so where, were you at the game? Yes, sir. I was in the lower bowl. So you were in the lower bowl. Did you stand up and were you loud?

Oh, I got told to sit down three, four, five times. And what did you do? Well, the first time I was like, well, I'm not going to sit. down. Then the second time I'm like, well, I kind of feel a little bad. Then the third time I'm like, well, I paid for my ticket, buddy. I can sit down. Oh, so that's interesting. You went from confident to peer pressure to back to confident again. Yeah. Interesting. Okay. There's probably some psychology to that.

You know, I've said this for years. I think people should be not only allowed to stand. They should be encouraged. Also, I don't think should be rude. So that's a balance. I think usually we sit too much at the games. And, you know, today it felt like the arena was really electric early, but I couldn't tell if that was true after the first 10 minutes. But I will say, again, when you watch these games on ESPN, it's hard to tell what the crowd is anywhere.

Whereas if you turn the games on CBS, you can tell when the crowd's into it when it's not. So I think it's just how they mix the sound. Appreciate the call. It's really one of my kind of pet peeps. Like right now, let's see, it's Texas, I don't know what games on CBS, but I was watching a game earlier today on the CBS Sports Network. And I'm telling you, watch a game on the CBS Sports Network and just hear how loud you can hear the crowd.

And it's just not the same on ESPN, especially when we're on the SEC Network. I know today was on ESPN. Who's next? DW. DW, what's up? Hey guys, so I've been super critical of Pope here this past year because it's just been a weird year, you know, but it's still good wins like this going into March that make me think, you know, like, if he can be the dude for this thing of ours, then I wouldn't want anyone else, you know.

I agree with that. I agree with that. Yeah, I agree with that. I know it's still a big if. But like wins like this buy me into that next season because you kept saying, you know, next season is his season, you know, make a break. But we don't have any recruits. I'm sitting here looking around like what do we have to even, like, why even wait until next season if it's going to suck? But wins like this keep me into it, you know?

Well, I mean, listen, think about, I understand what you mean, and we can point to bad losses because they certainly exist. But you also can point to, I mean, these are some amazing, they've got some great wins this year, right? I mean, they're going to go into the tournament, having beaten Tennessee twice, having beaten Arkansas, having beaten Vanderbill, having beaten St. John's, and beating Indiana. Those are good wins, all of them, every single one of them.

Absolutely. So you do have to, you know, you have to take the good with the bad. There are some terrible losses, but there's also some great wins. Yep, thank you. Appreciate the call. I don't know.

Would you rather Billy have a team that does what they're supposed to in every game or have a team that gets some great wins but then also take some really disappointing losses. Hmm. Probably the one that's more consistent, because I know what to expect, because there's been some really bad games in Nashville this year that we cannot forget. I can't forget.

Well, but those were against good teams. Like, it doesn't, I mean, I don't want to lose by 40 to Gonzaga, but, like, what bothers me more is losing to Georgia at home. Yeah. Right. Losing to Georgia, Missouri at home is what bothers me more. I still, though, love that when you go into these games against good teams, you really can't rule these Pope teams out. Because you go to the tournament, and we might be a, you know, succeed, and we got a good chance against the three and maybe against the two in the next round.

So you might have a tough time getting out of that first game. You might have, you might lose to the 11. You're exactly right. Like, that's just kind of how it's been so far with Mark. Who's next? So that's his only That's his only victory Against the team That has been good So would you rather be that? Because they don't lose to anybody bad But they don't be anybody good Which would you rather be?

People come up to me and they're like 23, 24, 25, something, and they'll show me a picture, Billy, of when I took a picture with them when they were like nine or ten. And there's very few things that will make you feel older than that.

Then seeing a picture of you with like this six four kid when they were nine years old. And in my mind, Billy, I look the same. But I know that I do not. Yeah, and they've completely transformed. And they've completely transformed. And then you have to think, well, you probably have two. What person writes, Matt, I'm with Billy. Excuse me, I disagree with Billy.

I want to have the double by as a possibility because it will keep Kentucky playing hard. I think they're going to play hard. I mean, having these two good teams left, you know, I'd like to see them stay out of the eight or nine because I think Florida is so much better than the other teams. If you can get in the bottom half of that bracket, then Billy, I don't see why you couldn't make a run in the SEC tournament.

You agree? I get that. I just want to make sure we have a show at Ten Roof in Nashville. We cannot lose on Wednesday of the SEC tournament. Well, I'm not as worried about that. And like I said, depending on what happens in this A&M game, that might not be a possibility even today. 859-280-2287.

But these guys as I was with some of Cal's team. So I can't say that I've seen that. You know, I think that the injuries and taking some of these guys off the court has, and there's a theory, and maybe you guys have talked about this,

that that has improved some of the team chemistry because if there's two guys that don't get along and now one of them's injured and not playing, that would certainly help. And I think there's some type A's. You're like, Otega O'A is a type A. Like, he's got to be the dude. If somebody else is getting in the way,

I think that that's where you get the friction. I can't really speak to that part of the film. Seen a lot of teams all over the country going into the SEC tournament and into the NCAA. do you think Kentucky can do something? I think the way they played today, and Vanderbilt's a really good team, I think the way they play today, that's an elite 18, you know, because they play with a ton of confidence.
