Welcome, everyone.
It is the local Toyota dealers KSR Postgame Show.
I am Matt Jones here live in the studio.
I'm never in the studio for the post game show.
but I left my equipment in Louisville.
So I'm here with Billy.
Billy, how are you going to answer the phone with me sitting in here?
You're just going to just put people immediately on hold?
I can only do it during the break or putting people right on hold and then getting their name during the break.
Well, I'll tell you what.
Why don't we open up the phones?
You can go answer the phone and I'll talk until you come back.
Okay.
Yeah, I can do that.
859-28027.
Don't turn the music up before you go.
All right.
Now you go answer the phone.
Open up the lines.
859, 280, 2287.
I'll talk about the game.
103 to 62.
Kentucky wins.
Kentucky wins by 41 points.
41 points for the guy who wore number 41 when he was at Kentucky.
I thought it was a very encouraging game, very encouraging game because they win by 41.
They play a team that was, what, fourth in the country and scoring last year and return most of their team,
and they held them to 62 points.
So not only did we score 103.
we'd play enough defense. They scored 19 below their average from last season.
And I don't think Kentucky played particularly great and scored 103 points. And that's a pretty
good sign. Your best player, Jackson Robinson, had eight points. And yet you score over 100 points.
It was just, you know, we could break down and I hope people will the way we play and the good
stuff and the bad stuff. We got to see and we'll talk about it. But just overall, what a fun environment.
I mean, I knew it was going to be cool when I was at the bar, got there at like 4.15, and the place was full because it wasn't like that for the first two exhibition games.
And it wasn't like that, to be quite frank with you, in the non-conference the last three or four years.
But it was tonight because this fan base is ready.
This fan base is ready for this era.
And they're ready for playing games like this and stomping people, right?
I mean, we're used to winning games like this.
I don't know.
in the last few years
7964
or
you know a couple times we've lost
but more of the point it's usually been like
you win but
it's a five point game at half time this was
you know we came out and I don't think
we ever trailed
saw a lot of good stuff
let me just go over some player thoughts
for me I mean I'm not the only one
that thinks this way he was the MVP
by the broadcast but Otega
away 21 point
It's eight of nine shooting, three of three from three.
I think the storyline for me of the season,
as far as it goes to individual players,
is that I underrated that guy coming into the year.
Maybe because I just didn't know as much about him.
He had played for a big program,
so he hadn't won like a lot of awards,
but the kid can play.
He shoots well, he's a good defender,
makes great passes, eight of nine from the field.
Like, that kid, you may remember me saying a lot
during the off season.
and I feel like we were one player short from being great.
And I still think that was true unless he ends up being that player.
Right?
Like if he's a lot, I kind of thought of him as like a six man.
And if he ends up being a guy who can get you 21,
he's not can get you 21 every game,
but let's say he could get you 14 every game.
Well, now of a sudden you got that second guy.
So he's been for me the surprise of the year so far.
Great game from Kobe Bray, a seven,
eight from the field, four for four from three and 18 points. Four for four from three. So between
he and Oway, seven for seven from three. Now, the rest of the team went four for 17 from three. But
those guys were money. Mont Butler, I thought, played good defense. You know, I still think there's
more to come from Andrew Carr, but Jackson Robinson only had eight. You know, the only,
if you wanted to be picky,
our bigs got a little, you know,
our bigs got a little aggressive.
Amari Williams had four turnovers.
I don't know if we need to necessarily try to take as many guys one-on-one Amari.
But he still finished in double digits.
You have double-double, 12 points, 12 boards.
That's pretty good.
Or 12.13 boards.
So I love, but I love this team.
I love to watch them.
I love the way they play.
They're fun.
They can put an 8-0 run on you quickly.
At one point, I think we led points in transition like 34 to 2 or something.
It was just a good.
This team is exactly what this fan base need.
And we're going to get to Saturday and we're going to play Bucknell.
I think that's going to be a great environment.
And then Duke next Tuesday and it's on.
as opposed to tomorrow, which is the Tuesday I kind of dread.
I can't wait for next Tuesday.
It's going to be fun.
And Kentucky basketball is going to be a lot of fun this year.
If you were at the game, 859-280-2287,
or even if you watched it home,
cats, not only with a big victory, but a fun victory.
And then the Pope era starts with a huge W, 41-point win.
We'll take a break and be right back.
You got the phone lines full?
they're full all right so when the show goes on you just like punch him on so if you call like he's not
going to say hello to you you'll just be immediately put on correct all right because that's the only
way we can do this with me here we'll take a break and be right back this is the local toy dealers
ksr post game show welcome back it is the local toy dealers ksr post game show billy it looks like
i'm going to hit a 14 team parley to start tonight 14 teams 14 teams now it was before you get too excited
It was a 14-team money-line parlor.
And I just picked 14 heavy, heavy favorites.
Okay, so you didn't win any money?
I mean, it was one-to-one.
So I bet 100 and I win 100.
Okay.
But would you like to know the teams real quick?
Yeah, please.
I picked Butler over Missouri State win.
Tennessee over Gardner Webb, Louisville over Moorhead, Providence over Central Connecticut
State, Syracuse over LeMoyne, Pittsburgh over St. Francis, St.
Joseph Navy. That was a little close. Seaton Hall, St. Peter's, St. Peter's nearly one.
They almost did it again. Michigan, Cleveland State, West Virginia, Robert Morris, St. John's Fordham, Harvard Marist, and Michigan State Monmouth. All of them were minus 2,000 or greater. But when you added them all together,
you about what?
I double my money.
Oh, well, no, it's hard to make money early in the basketball season. I've heard that. This is what I always do early in the year.
take like 10 to 15 big favorites, bet them just to win,
and then hope there's no huge upset.
Usually there's one game that's close.
Tonight it was St. Seton Hall, St. Peter's.
But Seton all hung on.
And now we're celebrating.
Got the cats win and a 14 team parlay.
14 teams sounds a lot better than the amount of money.
Yeah, just leave that part off.
859-28027. Let's get started.
I actually walked from my house down here to the studio.
So I passed by everybody, and there was such happiness coming outside the arena.
Let's see what the callers are like.
Who's first?
Caleb.
Caleb, go ahead.
Turn it up, Seth.
Go ahead, Caleb.
What's up, Matt?
What's going on?
All right, there you go.
Good start.
Caleb.
All right, he's gone.
How about Johnny Versauch?
I was excited about Caleb, and first start, well, it was an airball.
That's okay. Johnny Versace will be there. Go ahead, Johnny.
Hey, Matt, you know, I would just say this is just refreshing.
I mean, we were prepared. We played a fun style.
We looked like we were competent and not just like turning the ball over and dribbling the ball of the death.
Yes.
Super excited.
You know, even if we went out and.
shot the ball terrible, it would be fun to watch.
I agree.
And the thing about, like, I love the fact that we shot under 50% from three.
I mean, we only made 11 threes and we still scored 103 points.
Well, under 50% from three is, you know, that's pretty good.
Yes, but I guess more than point than the under 50% is that we only made 11 and we still
scored 103.
Absolutely.
And, you know, it just feels so different.
You know, coming into this year, you know, like you said, I mean, we don't know a lot of these players, it seems like.
You know, we had all this excitement about all these names that were coming in, but the product on the floor was just not fun to watch.
And this is the opposite.
I mean, we might not know every single player, but, man, it's fun to watch.
And it doesn't even feel like it matters who's out there at the time.
It just feels like we can execute.
Yes.
That's something that's been missing for years.
Totally agree with everything you said, Johnny.
I appreciate it.
I mean, everybody can score, you know.
I sometimes wish our bigs didn't feel like they could score quite as much as they do,
but they also dunk out some people's head.
So that's fun.
But the other guys, it's just anyone who shoots, anyone who shoots, I feel confident.
anyone. Anyone out there except Garrison shooting a three, I'm for it. And they shot one long,
too early in the game, Billy. And I was like, no. And then I go, man, we used to do that all the time
last year. All the time. That was the preferred shot. But I really enjoyed the first five minutes
of the game. Yeah. I don't know what it was. They were really on the first. They didn't even shoot
well those first five minutes, but just the way they were playing, they got steals. I just really,
Oh, one-class.
What was a play by Patrick Mones?
Give me a break.
Bring that back.
You wish that you could be as good as Patrick.
Beat him in the Super Bowl.
Oh, did he get knocked out?
Oh, no.
Oh, if he's hurt, that's bad.
Well, anyway, a great, great performance.
I love the back court with Oway and Butler is a defensive nightmare for people.
And they get their hands on the ball, which gets the fast.
I mean, a 34 to 2 fast breaks at one point.
I don't know where that finished, but it's just.
So refreshing and fun to watch, and he was not over the line of scrimmage.
So sorry, Billy.
Who's next?
Sam.
Sam.
What's up, Sam?
I'm going good.
I hope I'm better than the home's ankle.
Man, it looks like you heard it right there.
Go ahead.
I thought what was special to me is when Kerr came into the game, he just brings that energy.
I mean, you saw that push.
He just wanted to get down the court.
But these guys are just playing real basketball, making the actual basketball,
making the extra passes
I hope we've seen that in a little bit
but you kind of in color
before so I mean it's really just refreshing
to watch. Yeah, no it is
it's refreshing and it's fun
you know I like her a lot
I think he's probably he had five
assists no points so you're right
he does push the pace
you know
he's the only one I'd like to see him get going
from a scoring perspective
because that hasn't happened yet
but you're exactly right.
I love the way
I love the pace all these guys play at.
They never stop.
They never stop going.
There's never a moment, sir,
where like it feels like they take,
you know, they take a step back or they slow down.
I appreciate the call.
There's people online saying that might be in Achilles.
That would be terrible.
Yeah, it just had to get helped off.
That would stink.
If that's an Achilles, like,
that would be terrible.
I hate to see that.
You know what I mean?
Well, there's already so much great quarterback play in the league right now.
Now the best guy goes down.
He's got a chance to be like one of the best of all time.
And to lose on,
to loses and Achilles,
that would just stink.
I hope that's not the,
I hope that's not what it is.
Who's next?
Bobby.
Bobby, how are you, Bobby?
I'm doing good.
What's going on?
I'm actually watching the game again, man.
Oh, are you?
that's fun.
I can see that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm so excited for this team.
Every player on this team can step out and shoot a ball.
And I think this is going to be a great season.
I think that,
I think Kentucky fans haven't been as excited for a season in what,
seven, eight, ten years.
It's a close to last year.
That's a great question.
When is the last time a season has started with this much excitement?
I mean, I certainly think in 2015 there was that.
excitement because we felt like they could be amazing. I can't remember if in 17 with Fox and Monk,
we knew how good those guys were going to be. Yeah, they did kind of come on late.
Yeah, it may have been. You may be right. I mean, it may have been 15, maybe the Murray-Ulas 16 team,
but like it's not, it's been a while. Yeah, yeah. And I think, you know, we've talked about what we had.
and Cal was great.
He's the coach we needed for this program at that time.
And I think Pope is the coach we need it this time.
I think that we've got to turn the page from Coach Cal
and look for the future with Pope
and make this Kentucky team great again.
And I think it's going to happen.
And people say that a lot of people said that, you know,
Coach Cow's gone, this team, how they're going to recruit.
Well, Kentucky basketball was,
here.
Like you said, everyone said long before Cal and we'll be here long after we're gone.
And you can see with the recruit commitment that Pope is going to be able to recruit here.
That's not going to be a problem.
Yeah.
And I think we're going to be a great team to watch this year.
I don't know, you know, how far we can go, but it's going to be fun.
Well, let me ask you a question.
You know, the intensity puts on SEC tournaments, you know,
that will be fun.
correlation with teams that do good in their tournament in their league tournament and teams
that win titles.
Yeah.
Well, I appreciate the call.
I'm with you on all that.
I agree with all that.
I don't understand why there's this notion that this team can't be really good.
Who's saying that?
Well, I mean, he said, I don't know how we're good we're going to be.
And I've said that most of the year.
But what have you seen so far to say we can't be really good?
We won by 71 points in the first game.
We won by, how much did we beat, did we beat the Minnesota team by?
30 something.
We win by 41 tonight.
You know, why can't we be good?
What do you need that this team doesn't have?
Okay.
We got locked down to perimeter defenders.
Check.
We got bigs.
Check.
We got guys who can shoot.
We play modern basketball.
We got a coach who can coach.
Check.
The only thing that I could think of that you need that I'm not certain we have
is a dude who with a minute left, you need a bucket and he can break somebody down and get him.
Maybe that's Robinson.
Maybe it's O-A.
But besides that, what do you want?
Right?
Like, what do you want?
I guess you would say maybe you need a draft pick.
Maybe you need a superstar.
Yeah.
From a roster standpoint, I don't think you can ask for much more.
Now, an argument would be Pope hasn't won any games in the NCAA tournament.
Fair point.
But like, do you get the sense that he doesn't know how to coach?
No, not at all.
I don't.
You know, I mean, we'll find out in the Duke game and then in the Gonzaga game
when we're playing these top 10 teams, like how big is the talent discrepancy?
Right?
But it doesn't feel like it's crazy.
I mean, you know, let's just look.
you know, let's take the Fox Monk team.
Is Fox better than anybody on this team?
Yeah.
Is Monk better than anybody on this team?
Yeah.
Is Bam in college better than anybody on this team?
I'm not sure.
I mean, he became an amazing pro.
But if this team played that team, you're telling me they couldn't beat them?
No, they could.
They could.
Especially the way they play up-tempo.
But, you know, you said it, they only hit, what, 11, 3.
and still scored 103 points, that means even as modern basketball as it is,
it's not live and die by the 30.
It's not.
It's not.
Alabama, when Nate Oates first got there was live and die by a three.
But now they shoot threes as part of a more coherent offense, and that took them to the final four.
I think that's what this could be.
That's the mixture.
Yeah.
It looked like Mahomes is up, so maybe he's okay.
Yeah, he's a, I hope so.
He's a gamer.
Yeah.
Porn in Tampa.
Kansas City.
Whatever.
They're right next to you.
Who's that?
I think that's what's in the map.
Mason is next.
Mason.
Go ahead, Mason.
Hey.
Hey, what's going on?
Matt Jones.
Yes.
Hey, I got three things.
I heard that gratitude brings joy.
I got three things for the BVN to be thanks for if you'll hear it, Matt Jones.
If you'll go quick, I'll hear three.
If not, I'll hear two.
Hey, got to thank the athletic director of the UK, man.
We've got a volleyball team winning national championships.
We've got baseball team going to World College Series.
I mean, it's unbelievable.
We're getting disappointed in Mark Stobs losing football games.
I've never been so excited for football in my life.
Number two, we've got to be grateful for our moms, CBN.
Mark Stub just lost his mom and God bless his family.
I'm telling you right now, if you ain't thankful for your mom, you're silly.
And I promise you this.
Our coach, Mark Pope, he's thankful for his mother.
I promise you that.
And finally, I've got to be thankful for you and KSR, Matt Jones.
You guys single-handedly got Califery out of here, baby.
That's not true.
Well, I liked your call in the first two.
I like your call.
Hands down the best pyre of the decade.
I appreciate the call.
I liked your call in the first two because you should appreciate your mom.
And Mitch isn't perfect, but you know, Mitch,
Mitch stuck his neck out on this popeyer.
Sure did.
We'll see if it works.
but maybe he ends up looking like a genius.
You know, was it Jimmy Dykes said they got the coach.
They maybe not, didn't get the coach they want, but they got the coach they needed.
I think that's what Jimmy Dykes is saying.
Yeah, I didn't hear it.
I'm radio.
Where did that come from?
That came from like a superhero movie, right?
Like not the hero we wanted, but the one we needed.
Is that where it comes from?
I think that's Batman.
Is that what Batman is?
I'm going to, my limited Marvel knowledge, I think that's Batman.
Oh, that's DC.
and I don't even know anything about that. Good call. But yeah, I think that is Batman.
So what made Batman not the hero we wanted? What did we not?
Well, he's a little grimy, you know. He kind of takes things into his own hands.
So we didn't want him? I wanted him. He's my favorite.
Well, he doesn't listen to authority.
Well, neither do I.
Are you Batman?
Well, let's see. He doesn't seem like to go out much.
True.
Got a nice car. I like cars. You have a billion dollars?
No, I don't have that.
but yeah maybe i'm maybe no but i mean mark pope was not the guy that any of us really wanted
outside of a handful of people but hopefully he is what we need so far he is you know we'll see
what it's like we'll see what it's like but like i mean what could he have done better so far
nothing so far not much who's next ksr bar athlete chase chase how are you chase
are you. Good. I just want to say I've missed talking you all been working at the bank and that's
been going good. What do you think the keys will be moving forward like you said to be a top tier
team after getting a hundred points a game the last three games? I mean, so far, if you play like you
played, I appreciate the call. Nice to hear from you. Jason. If you play like you played in the last
three games, I think you're good.
You know, if you play, I think, you know, what, what, so far, maybe I, if I was just going
nitpick, I'd be like, well, I wish we got a little bit more from Carr.
What are you going to complain about?
So far, it's been great.
I want to see a guy, I want to see us have a game where we need a dude to just take guys
one-on-one.
It's going to be interesting to see us play against Duke.
They're long, they're athletic.
Duke is Kentucky Cal teams.
Let's see how we do.
Win or lose, we'll see how we do.
But I just kind of think they're going to be right in these games.
I don't know why.
I don't know why it's just a suit.
They have his eighth in the SEC.
We're not going to be eighth in the SEC.
Well, we've talked about gratitude,
but it feels like the guys are playing with joy.
They are.
Actually, that's true.
I think they are.
And I say, so is my home's in?
Is he back?
That's him, yeah.
Okay, good.
Yeah, we're not coming in eighth in the SEC.
We're just not.
It's a good SEC.
It is, but they also, like, A&M lost to Central Florida tonight.
South Carolina already lost, like these SEC, South Carolina lost to what?
North Florida.
We're not coming in eight.
I'm going to say, we're not coming lower than fourth.
You write that down.
Okay.
All right.
Let's do one more, and then we'll take a break.
Well, I don't know their name, so I put them on hold.
You want to just put them on?
Yeah, just put them on.
Who's up?
What's your name?
This person.
All right.
So for all of you on, just lead with your name.
When I say go on?
Yes, lead your, wait, if you hear me, then you're on.
What's your name?
All right, go.
I was just calling, I'm on the way home from the game heading back home to the Louisville.
I was at the game.
And this team is something special.
You will not hear me say, if we can be good.
I don't know how good we can be.
This team is special.
It's really, really, really refreshing to see us be able to guard a ball screen,
to run an in-bounds play, to run an offense, to be well-coached.
And this team has experience, and this team is beat.
I don't think anybody's talking about how freaking deep this team is.
Ten guys, ten guys who've played either big minutes at a major school or been
first team all conference in their conference. That's pretty good.
And we got that bleeds blue. That's right. And Kirk Crease, think about
Kirk Crease. Kurt Crease is probably our ninth or tenth man, at least so far. He started 93
games in a Power 5 conference. Sir, that's pretty good, isn't it?
It's really good, Matt. I want to tell you one other thing real quick. This is kind of off of
the whole this team being special, but you was talking about parley's. You'll get a kickout.
out of this parlay. I had a four team plus 1258 parlay tonight, just my taking Kentucky
on the spread and the over on the total and betting Louisville and Rick Petino of St. John's.
Those four plus 12. Well, good for you. A little state of Kentucky parley. Well, I appreciate
the call. And yeah, Louisville, Louisville looked good tonight, although nobody was there.
Yeah, I saw that picture. Wow. I mean, Kelsey was almost begging in the postgame for people to
come to the Tennessee game Saturday.
It's kind of sad.
Like, he seems like a good dude.
Like, how's anybody going?
I mean, there's no, that's a terrible crowd.
They announced the crowd at 12,000, which means there was like, not though.
You think they need proof of concept or are they just not supporting?
Louisville's a party fan base.
They show up when the party's good.
So if they're good, by January, it'll be full.
They'll be there.
That's a party fan base.
The party's got to be fun.
If the party's not fun, they don't come.
I mean, that's, it didn't used to be like that,
but I think,
I think George made it like that.
And so now,
when it's good, it's good for them,
but when it's not,
I just,
I thought they'd have a good crowd tonight.
I mean, we had a good crowd.
It wasn't full, but that was a really good crowd.
So,
I think we'll have,
I mean,
we're playing Bucknell Saturday,
but I don't know why it won't be full for that.
Saturday afternoon, right?
Yeah, Mark Pope wore a suit today,
so I'm on board.
Yeah, he wears a suit all year?
Oh, yeah.
What goodness. It's got to cost money to get a suit when you're 6.11.
That's true. I didn't think about that.
I mean, I've, big and tall.
When I started getting on TV, Beaumani Jones saw me in my test.
I sit my test show to Beaumonti Jones on Hey Kentucky.
I was like, hey, man, what do you think?
And he wrote me back and he goes, the things you need to fix on television, you'll fix over time.
He was like, but you got to get a suit to fit.
That was his thing.
So I order, I got a guy, and they're expensive, but like it makes a big difference.
And when you're 6-11, it really makes it different.
859-28027.
We'll take a break.
Bill, you go get these people's name, so I don't have to yell and go.
Is this your name or not?
And we'll be right back.
It's a local toy dealers, KSR, post-game show.
So college basketball starting across the country tonight,
let's talk a little bit about what happened outside of here.
I said South Carolina lost at home to North Florida.
That's probably the biggest upset so far.
A&M ranked 13th the country loses at Central Florida.
It's not a great loss, but that's not a horrible loss because you're on their home field.
But still, how about this?
Elon.
Musk?
No.
I hope he takes a loss tomorrow.
But with six and a half minutes to go, Elon is tied with North Carolina, 69.
North Carolina.
Wow.
Elon was down 12.
at halftime and now tied with six and a half minutes to go.
What about that picture of Doug Gowley?
He's sweaty.
If you guys haven't seen it, go on Twitter.
I tweeted it out.
Look at the picture of Doug Gawley.
Doug Gowb, if you don't know, is coaching Green Bay.
Also doing a radio show, which I, how's he doing?
I haven't kept up with that.
Is that awkward?
It's got to think it's a little awkward.
But doing a radio show and coaching Green Bay, he is the sweat.
That's the sweat.
Have you ever seen a sweatier person?
than those pictures?
Oh, oh, yeah.
Who?
I mean, there's been some coaches in the past.
Who's been sweatier than that?
Look at his back.
Now, that is a lot of sweat.
That's the sweatiest back I've ever seen.
I do feel fun a little bit.
Touchdown Kansas City.
After we thought moms and torn his Achilles,
he comes back in and drives all the way down the field,
leads 2417.
Dude's amazing.
Just admit it.
He's amazing.
I know it's your tape of my bucks.
I hate it.
He did a real good,
scoring nine points that game.
That was what, his second year?
I mean, he was like
It's his second year
He sucked it up that game
Yeah
I think he's doing pretty well tonight
But don't you feel for him
I mean like you ever been
In a sweaty moment like that
I mean
Not like that
Who's up next?
Caleb
Caleb go ahead Caleb
All right
What's up Matt?
I was the first caller
Had to call back
My first call ever
So hopefully your second one's better
True
So me and my buddies
Drive up for Morehead State
today, go watch Pope's first game, and two things stick out to me.
One, when is Kobe Brea going to be a starter for this team?
Well, who would you start him over, though?
Who are you going to start him over?
I don't know.
You know, you got Jacks on, Lamont.
I mean, you're going to have to take out O.A, who was our leading score.
So I think he's got to be a six-minute.
I think that's what, I think that's his role on this team.
The only way I would dis, maybe there are teams you go small and you play car,
at the four or at the five and Jackson or him at the four.
But I think otherwise, he's a six-man.
Next thing, Kirk Crea.
I was coming in with him as like my favorite player.
I felt like Pope hyped him up.
I liked him.
And he disappointed me today.
That second half, in the first half, that was a terrible player.
At the game, you can see Pope kind of coaching him up over on the sideline talking about,
he kind of just stood there and even looked at him and was like, what were you
doing.
We're going to need him, though.
There's going to be a game.
There's going to be a couple games where we're going to need him.
I think he's also, I appreciate the call a reserve, but there's going to be a game where
you put him in.
I mean, he couldn't score, but he could have scored tonight.
He gave up an open layup to kick it out for three, which I thought if anything epitomizes
modern basketball more than give up a layup to shoot a three.
A couple more things real quick about college basketball.
Ohio State is playing Texas.
Ohio State leads.
Aaron Bradshaw didn't start for Ohio State.
Really?
Coming off the bench?
Coming off the bench.
Isn't that crazy?
And then how about our women's team?
Really good.
I got to watch some of that.
They are tall.
They are very tall.
I mean, historically, like top five players of all time tall.
That girl from Brazil is going to be really good.
She's just a freshman and she went seven for seven.
Portugal?
Excuse me, Portugal, yes.
Like, she's going to be really good.
They're all good.
Like, that was, you know, I don't know how that good that team was they played, but they were good.
Exciting.
They play Thursday night at home.
I'm going.
I hope people will make that a thing because, like, I kind of feel bad for them.
They had to play tonight because they didn't get a great crowd because everybody was for this.
But I hope give Kenny Brooks's love.
He's going to be a great coach.
All right.
Who's next?
Austin.
Austin.
Oh, hey, what's going on, guys?
What's going on?
I just want to say, like, I feel sorry for whoever plays us when all of our.
players like are in sync and making shots.
I mean, I feel sorry for whoever that team is.
Well, I mean, yeah, if we're hitting, if we're, let's just say you play like tonight and
you're just, you don't miss and you don't make turnovers.
Like you're going to score 120 points, right?
Yeah, plus.
I mean, if you think about it, if everybody's shooting the way that they can, I mean,
it could be, you know, a high scoring game.
And they slowed the game down a little bit.
Like, you heard Jimmy Dyke say they didn't really play.
meaning right state the way they played last year,
which was smart on their part.
So we'll get a team that'll run with us
and we'll score a lot in that game.
Absolutely.
And then also, I don't know if you noticed,
but Duke was only up on Maine like 44 to 33 or something at halftime.
So, I mean, we may have a chance.
Well, I appreciate it.
We definitely have a change.
Who's going to guard Cooper Flagg?
Who cares?
Who's going to guard our guys?
Like, Cooper, like,
He's going to be great, but that Duke team is like the Kentucky teams early in the year.
And they're all freshmen.
Yeah.
You know.
Yeah, I mean, could they beat us?
Of course they could.
Will they beat us?
Maybe.
But like, why do we think we can't compete with him?
Just a big stage early on?
I think it's just because we've never heard of these guys.
Yeah.
We somehow think they're chumps.
And I mean, maybe I was as guilty as anybody of it.
But like, these guys are good.
They're talented.
They're skilled.
They play together.
They're old.
They are old.
Who's next?
Dawson.
Dawson.
Dawson. Go ahead, Dawson.
How are you doing today, Matt?
What's going on?
Two things that I noticed that was kind of lacked the past couple of years are toughness and execution.
Yes, I agree with that.
And the second thing I wanted to say is, I think you've mentioned this before.
on the day show that we don't have a lot of pros on this team.
So for them to kind of just buy in, like, they're playing for the University of Kentucky.
Like, they are playing for the greatest tradition in the history of college basketball.
So it's really cool that they're buying into the phrase that this is Kentucky's team.
It is very cool to have.
And I appreciate the call.
We won't have a team like this again.
I mean, I think it's clear.
Pope's going to go recruit guys who want to be pros, which I think is smart.
We'll have dudes like, like it's not going to be a team of all freshmen like Calhead.
but we will have good freshmen every year.
I don't think we'll ever have a team like this again,
but I like this team because nobody on this team
outside of Jackson Robinson and Brandon Garrison
probably thinks I'm definitely an NBA player.
Right?
And it's neat to watch guys like that play.
They're playing like this is, I don't want to say it,
because all these guys can have pro careers in Europe if they want,
but like, they're playing like this is my stage.
Yeah, they're playing like this is my stage.
Yeah, this is my stage.
This is what I'm here for.
This isn't a step to the next thing.
This is the thing.
And I really like, I like watching guys like that.
I like watching guys have moments like that and appreciate what's, what's happening.
Somebody did send in a photo of Sean Miller, sweating.
True.
But Godleaves not even wearing a white shirt.
You know, at least wasn't Miller wearing a white shirt in that?
God leave is wearing blue
I'm going to advise my guy
I don't dislike Doug
Doug's always been nice to me
first of all
gotta cover up the pits
What more can you do besides deodorant right
Well first of all
You don't get pit stains like that
Unless you didn't put on deodorant
I mean look at that
Come on
The back stain I can understand
But the pit stain
And he's got he's sweating on his stomach
Who sweats on their stomach like that
Nervous
who's next?
I think it's bones.
Bones, what's up Bones?
No, you're right. Archie Miller was sweatier.
I just saw that picture.
Sean Miller. He was sweaty.
All, go ahead.
What a great time to be in Kentucky basketball fan
in this new era.
Just a couple things, man.
First of all, I'm betting dollars to donuts.
There's no way Arkansas finishes ahead of us in the SEC.
I can't believe they're even giving him forth
because other than the colors he's wearing,
it's the exact same thing that would be here.
And then number two, I'm not so necessarily worried about
beating a man off the dribble because we can run a play for anybody
in a shot instead of having to get to the rim.
And we run a pick and roll just as good as anybody in the country.
And then third, this is just the beginning of this team
and we're scoring over 100.
They only get better and better.
I'd be scared to see us come March.
I see no lies.
I appreciate the call.
Why not?
This team is good.
I feel confident this team is good.
We're going to be competitive all year,
and we're going to win a lot of games.
Are we top?
I am now 100% on board.
We are top 25,
and I'd say we're even like top 15, top 20.
Are we top 10?
We'll see.
but this team's good
Bobby says
I just wanted to enjoy the post game show
but you just have to throw in a political jam
Bobby I'm looking at you
I like you Bobby
but Bobby you
I've seen you before
this is Bobby
you send me political comments all the time
you can take a joke
this is going to be over
well maybe it's not over tomorrow
but hopefully it's over tomorrow
yeah big day tomorrow
you can take a joke
you guys don't be don't be a snow
you can laugh
Oh, same. Be careful now.
Well, that people used to call me that.
Calling snowflakes a day before the election.
I said this on Twitter, by the way, and this is true.
Whether my person wins or your does.
Don't let tomorrow ruin friendships,
make you do something that you don't,
is not like you or get you fired.
Good advice.
It ain't worth it.
Neither one of these two people, Trump or Harris,
it's worth losing a friend.
Because they'll both be gone
and that friend will still be there.
We'll take a break and be right back.
Welcome back. Final segment.
Local Toyota's KSR Post-Same Show.
Chiefs lead the Tampa Bay Bucks 2417.
Two minutes left, bucks have the ball.
Are they going to go down there and score and tie the game up?
No. You haven't watched enough bucks on prime time games.
They're really bad.
Oh, they're like, as traditionally bad?
Well, just 0 and 4 the last two years.
Well, you got Maker Playfield, as my guy Dan Orlovsky called him.
And you got Liam.
Oh, yeah, Liam.
Apparently Dan Orlovsky said during the game that Liam has done enough to earn head coaching jobs next year.
Yeah, maybe the bucks.
They may fire Todd.
Louisville fans are mad.
And I just posted the screenshot of the crowd they had tonight.
What's new?
Between Louisville fans.
in the Tennessee fan Saturday
and the people
I asked who they were going to vote for
to make fun of Ryan
how do you even look at your social media
Twitter's like so bad
now you can't even look at the comments which I hate
because I always enjoyed it I did
I always enjoyed getting to see
but now it's easy as you can't do it
like it's too it's too toxic he's ruined
it text machine though is still
the thing that's what I like the most
772 7754
to 5-4.
The, let's see, North Carolina, Elon, what's the score?
Still close.
Four minutes to go.
No, North Carolina's pulled away a little bit.
80 to 71, three minutes to go.
Still, though, close game for them to start season.
Yeah, Toppers didn't pull it off either.
Yeah.
All right, who's up next?
Cam.
Cam. Go ahead, Cam.
What up, boys.
Man, what a game.
First regular season game for Cole, real happy.
I'm excited for him.
I tweeted that that was a refreshing win over, you know, in a game game.
It's been a few years since we've had like a, you know, start to finish, like, no doubt or with a football or basketball game.
So it felt good to see that.
I love the lobs to the big.
I think those are, like, underrated for getting the crowd into the game.
Yes.
We saw a lot of those.
like we hadn't seen those just like the first
few years with Cal
I hope that's a consistent part of the offense
and really happy for Kobe Bray
I was nervous for him after the exhibition games
I was too yeah
and he boy he looked good tonight didn't he
but look he was on fire
and he was on fire and it looks like
he can kind of you know he may be another one
there's like two or three guys if they're open
I think it's going in
exactly exactly
and then I'll hang up and live
listen on this, man.
I wish there were more than two political parties.
I feel like the last 12 years or so,
it's kind of created an even greater divide.
I feel like there's way more voters
and potential voters in the middle than are in the extremities.
You know, in European countries,
there's like lots of parties,
but we've kind of created a system.
The electoral college makes it because it's winner-take-all
that, like, it's hard to have other parties.
So it's what it is.
I wish I could fix it, but I can't.
I appreciate the call.
My hope is, I think I said this this morning.
Whoever wins, I hope it's bylaw.
So that it's like, everybody knows.
And then you just like move on.
I don't think two months of us fighting is going to be good for anybody.
Yeah, unfortunately, I think that's the most likely result.
Probably is.
Probably going to come down to Pennsylvania, come down to like 40,000 votes.
Are you going to watch the entire time?
I'm going to go, I already know my game plan tomorrow.
You know what I'm going to play anymore?
I've got to go to the hand doctor
because it's a stupid cut on my wrist.
And then I'm going to go to the Louisville.
I'm going to go to the movies.
Oh, yeah.
You talked about this.
I go to the movies every election night.
So like, you know, like go to a movie at like 7 o'clock
or something like that.
By the time I come out, like 9.30,
it'll start to have a sense.
So I'll check.
And then maybe what the problem is,
All the leagues take the night off.
Why do they do that?
Like the NBA's off.
Oh, the leagues, the sports games.
The sports leagues.
I would think have games to distract everybody.
Yeah.
But they don't.
And schools out tomorrow, right?
I didn't know that.
I think it is.
I think schools out for presidential election.
Well, a lot of polls are at schools.
Yeah, it makes sense.
You have to close the school so you can have the poll there.
Shout out to all the people who are working the polls tomorrow.
That's a thankless job that a lot of people have to do
and that nowadays they get yelled at for.
And it's usually just a little old lady.
So, you know, be kind to him.
Who's next?
Nate.
Nate.
Nate.
Nate.
Nate.
Nate.
All right.
No, Nate.
Who's next?
Okay.
Brian.
Brian.
Brian.
Go ahead, Brian.
Hey, man.
First time caller here.
Who I?
Hey, just calling from National.
My question is, do you think that this Polk team is better than BYU
your team. Oh, of course. Yeah. They got better players.
They, yeah. So the question of if this team can beat good teams, it's pretty obvious. I mean,
last year they beat what Kansas and Baylor. I mean, we've got, I think we had the potential to
be anybody. See, I agree. And that question you had is like a basic question that we didn't really,
that people didn't really talk about. But like, is this team more talented than BYU? Yes. Did BYU
you beat good teams? Yes. Well, then of course we can beat good teams. Now, they did
losing the tournament. They lost to Duquesne. And so that makes people kind of go, oh, uh-oh,
they, you know, and I get that, but that's one game. So I'm with you. Why, I mean,
if they, they went into Kansas and beat them by like 20 on their court. Yeah. One guy I was
impressed with tonight was Ainsley Alamor. I think, I mean, it didn't play so later, but I think,
It's like, I feel like he scored and doubled it.
He had 11 points.
He had 11 points, yeah.
Yeah, it's funny with Al Minore.
I appreciate the call.
Mario and I went to Pro Day, and I made the mistake of saying to Mario, I don't know about Almanor.
I don't know if I think he's very good.
And so now every time he scores, he giving it back to you a little bit.
Mario texts me.
Every single point.
Every bucket he's texting?
Every bucket.
It's a lot.
He texts me and says, there's your boy.
It'll be a long ear for you.
He's looked good, though.
I mean, he's looked good.
He looked good in the two exhibition games, too.
He's looked good in all of them.
How many, let's do...
Do we have three left?
Do you want to do more than that?
Let's do four.
So 1, 859, 2,80, 22.
We'll do four, because that'll probably give time for this football game.
We can see who wins.
Who's next?
Todd.
Todd, go ahead, Todd.
Hello, Matt.
Hey, Todd.
We had six players in double figures tonight.
I thought that was amazing.
That's great.
And another thing concerning,
Mark Pope, I think he'll have a good report with the officials compared to Cal.
I think the officials under Cal kind of aimed to piss Cal off.
And I believe we'll get more calls our way with Pope.
What do you think about that?
I think that's very plausible.
You know, there's a, I appreciate the call.
We used to say, I don't think anybody has ever changed their mind.
because people scream at them.
I've often wondered if screaming at refs is counterproductive.
I mean, human element of it, right?
There's a human element.
Nobody wants to be yelled at.
Now, maybe there are people like Bobby Knight was back in the day that could yell so much.
It would intimidate you and then you would.
Yeah.
But, yeah.
I mean, I don't think there's not going to be, I can tell you this.
There were definitely officials.
Uh-oh.
Not quite in.
They're down at the one yard line.
There were officials back in the day, Billy, who clearly had it out for Cal.
I don't feel like any of these officials are going to have it out for Mark Pope.
Do you think Stoops has the same issue?
No, it seems like to me, he gets mad, but it doesn't seem like to me refs hate.
Listen, I got sued by a ref that hated Cal.
I mean, there were clearly refs that hated Cal.
Yeah.
And I thought they were unfair, some of them, the cow.
But I don't think Pope's going to have that at all.
Would you go for two here if you lost word to say?
I think you have to go for two.
I think you have to go for two if they get it.
Three more.
Who's next?
Hayden.
Hayden.
What's up Hayden?
Hey, Hayden.
Hello.
Hey, how are you?
Good.
Heading back from the game.
We're heading to LaVarst County, Kentucky.
You know, it was a really good game.
Did you say Lawrence County, Kentucky?
Yes.
So you're in the mountains.
Yes.
Look at that.
Mountain.
My mountain man.
What's up?
Go ahead.
Well, what's your prediction game predictions on the Duke game coming up?
I mean, I don't know if we're, I think it's going to be a great game.
I think it's going to probably be, appreciate the call.
I'm going to say a five-point game either way.
Let me see how we do against Buck now just to get another game that's real under our belt.
But I think it's going to be a great test.
I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
By the way, we're going to make that like our official Pope launch party at KSbar.
that night. So it might be hard for you to come from Lawrence County, but it's going to be late,
but we're going to make that fun. I guess that's next Tuesday, Tuesday night.
All right, there's a touchdown for Tampa Bay. So are we going for two? I mean, I know you're
Liam. Come on. I mean to say this, there's 27 seconds. Mahomes can drive down the field in 27 seconds.
I know. That's why I don't kick an extra point. He'll do it to you anyway.
All right. So they're kicking the extra point. So that means that. I hate that.
Yeah, I do two, but 27 seconds, he can still, I mean, they have 27 seconds and three timeouts.
He's going to get down there.
He's got a herd of killies.
And then the guy whose wife, he said, don't work.
She'll kick the.
Harrison Butker.
Harrison Butker, he'll kick it.
He's got a great leg.
I hate this decision.
Yeah.
Who's up next?
Germo.
Germo.
How are you, Jermo?
Hey, Matt.
How you doing?
I'm doing good.
Second time, long time.
What's up?
I was more concerned about, I guess, when I was watching the team and stuff,
the lack of underclassmen use until the last minutes.
Why does that concern?
And when I say, sure, Travis Perry, that's why I'm talking about.
Travis Perry.
I mean, why does it concern you?
I mean, I understand why you want to see Travis Perry play.
I mean, I'd love to see him play, too.
But it doesn't.
It shouldn't concern you.
There are our 11th and 12th man.
Sure.
And the reason being is, like, what's his role going to be?
He's not going to have a big role.
I mean, they're going to be, they're going to be guys.
Listen, I love those guys on the team, and I think they both have bright futures at Kentucky.
And I do think there will be games where they will play, maybe because of guys injured,
or maybe just because some people are cold.
But they're the 11th and 12th men.
And you're probably going to hear me say this all year because I'm going to get this call all year.
but if you go back historically, the 11th and 12th men, they don't play.
Okay.
So again, we can just probably just give this like Reed Shepherd fantasy just a kick.
It's not going to happen.
But they always should, we should have always given that a kick.
I mean, I've said all summer, anyone that thinks they're Reed Shepherd because they're
white and from Kentucky, that's not the case.
Reed Shepherd was an elite athlete, like elite.
And you're saying that this year's guy.
Travis Perry and Tritt, or excuse me, Travis Perry and Trit Noah are not elite athletes.
They're great shooters.
They're great players.
Reed Shepard was the third pick in the draft.
Reed Shepard played AAU at the highest level in America and held his own against every player he played against.
It's not the same.
Okay.
Well, whatever takes to win games, man.
I mean, I'm on your side, too.
Yeah.
You know?
I just, I mean, it's, I get it.
Like, I totally get why people want them to play.
I want them to play.
Trent from Harlan, I want to see him out there.
I want to see Travis Perry play.
And, you know, could they have put them in two or three minutes earlier?
Sure, they could have.
But those guys are the 11th and 12th men.
And as the 11th and 12th men, they're probably, and I appreciate the call,
they're probably not going to play all that much.
Reed Shepard had the highest
vertical jump in the NBA draft
Yeah, I mean Travis Perry
played a lot in the first exhibition game
but remember
Cresa was hurt
Yeah
Right
So he didn't play
So I think there will be games this year
Where players are out because of injuries
That happens in games
And then those guys might get minutes
But this is going to be their role
Most of the year I would think
Wouldn't you?
Yeah, so Travis Perry gets in
if there's an injury to Butler or
Creesa, when does Trent Noah get in?
If there's an injury to Albinore, Chandler.
Okay, the three.
You know, those guys, three or the four.
That's just my, oh, interception.
Wow, Kelsey.
Oh, incomplete.
Boy, Billy, was excited there.
It looked like an interception.
It must be you during Kentucky games.
Oh, during a close Kentucky game.
Oh, that got tip.
That was not Kelsey.
That was the defender.
All right, who's next?
more. I don't know this person's name. Okay, who is it? Go for it. Hello. Caller.
All right. No, just put somebody else on. All right. Well, we don't have anybody else on.
All right. Well, call. 8.592. I want, I can't finish. I got to finish with one. All right. It'll be
seconds from now. Here it is. All right. You're on the air caller. You're on the air caller.
Hey, Billy. Hey, what's up? Go for it. Turn the radio down and go for it.
two things, Matt. Sorry, I got two things. All right. The first thing is that Lamont Butler is the best on-ball
defender since Ashton Hagen's, and it's not close. I think that's probably true. Although I'm going to have to
give credit to Kason Wallace since I kind of downplayed him the other night. You go look at his stats. He was
really good, too. But I would say you're right since Ashton Hake. But he's also the worst at the
rim finisher since Ashton Hagen's. And he's got to tighten that up. But other than that, that was just
funny. I thought. Yeah, he did miss two
open layers. Justin Edwards was
pretty bad finishing at the RAM too last
year. But go ahead.
I just thought it was funny.
I liked everything I saw tonight.
I really loved
the 41 points. I don't know
why that just was
what it was, but it was perfectly Kentucky
and I absolutely loved it for Mark Pope.
It was just a really
good way to start the season off.
I've got a great feeling about this season
no matter what happens.
I'm just really, really, really happy for where we're at right now.
I totally agree with everything you just said.
I love that they had 41.
I love that they had 41.
One by 41.
That's a perfect way to start this.
So let's go over the schedule for the week.
Thursday, Kentucky's women play at home.
And then the Bengals are also playing.
So Thursday night at KSpar,
we're going to have a big thing with both the women's basketball and the Bengals.
Kentucky plays Saturday at 4 against 4.
I was checking that 4 o'clock. That's correct.
Four o'clock. And it is on, is that a computer game?
I don't know about that.
I think it is a computer game. I think that's a game on the computer.
And then, yeah, Tuesday night next week against you.
You're correct. It is.
Yeah. Thank you all very much for sticking with us at night and listening.
Bill of the Chiefs and Bucks go to overtime. Billy's going to sit around here.
I'll be here for another 20 minutes.
Yeah, I'm going to sit here with you and watch it too.
and we will see you tomorrow morning.
Happy Election Day Eve.
