So I'm here with Billy. Billy, how are you going to answer the phone with me sitting in here? You're just going to just put people immediately on hold? I can only do it during the break or putting people right on hold and then getting their name during the break.

Well, I'll tell you what. Why don't we open up the phones? You can go answer the phone and I'll talk until you come back. Okay. Yeah, I can do that. 859-28027. Don't turn the music up before you go. All right.

Now you go answer the phone. Open up the lines. 859, 280, 2287. I'll talk about the game. 103 to 62. Kentucky wins. Kentucky wins by 41 points. 41 points for the guy who wore number 41 when he was at Kentucky.

I thought it was a very encouraging game, very encouraging game because they win by 41. They play a team that was, what, fourth in the country and scoring last year and return most of their team, and they held them to 62 points. So not only did we score 103. we'd play enough defense. They scored 19 below their average from last season. And I don't think Kentucky played particularly great and scored 103 points. And that's a pretty good sign. Your best player, Jackson Robinson, had eight points. And yet you score over 100 points. It was just, you know, we could break down and I hope people will the way we play and the good

stuff and the bad stuff. We got to see and we'll talk about it. But just overall, what a fun environment. I mean, I knew it was going to be cool when I was at the bar, got there at like 4.15, and the place was full because it wasn't like that for the first two exhibition games. And it wasn't like that, to be quite frank with you, in the non-conference the last three or four years. But it was tonight because this fan base is ready. This fan base is ready for this era. And they're ready for playing games like this and stomping people, right? I mean, we're used to winning games like this. I don't know.

in the last few years 7964 or you know a couple times we've lost but more of the point it's usually been like you win but it's a five point game at half time this was you know we came out and I don't think

we ever trailed saw a lot of good stuff let me just go over some player thoughts for me I mean I'm not the only one that thinks this way he was the MVP by the broadcast but Otega away 21 point It's eight of nine shooting, three of three from three.

I think the storyline for me of the season, as far as it goes to individual players, is that I underrated that guy coming into the year. Maybe because I just didn't know as much about him. He had played for a big program, so he hadn't won like a lot of awards, but the kid can play. He shoots well, he's a good defender,

makes great passes, eight of nine from the field. Like, that kid, you may remember me saying a lot during the off season. and I feel like we were one player short from being great. And I still think that was true unless he ends up being that player. Right? Like if he's a lot, I kind of thought of him as like a six man. And if he ends up being a guy who can get you 21,

he's not can get you 21 every game, but let's say he could get you 14 every game. Well, now of a sudden you got that second guy. So he's been for me the surprise of the year so far. Great game from Kobe Bray, a seven, eight from the field, four for four from three and 18 points. Four for four from three. So between he and Oway, seven for seven from three. Now, the rest of the team went four for 17 from three. But those guys were money. Mont Butler, I thought, played good defense. You know, I still think there's

more to come from Andrew Carr, but Jackson Robinson only had eight. You know, the only, if you wanted to be picky, our bigs got a little, you know, our bigs got a little aggressive. Amari Williams had four turnovers. I don't know if we need to necessarily try to take as many guys one-on-one Amari. But he still finished in double digits. You have double-double, 12 points, 12 boards.

That's pretty good. Or 12.13 boards. So I love, but I love this team. I love to watch them. I love the way they play. They're fun. They can put an 8-0 run on you quickly. At one point, I think we led points in transition like 34 to 2 or something.

It was just a good. This team is exactly what this fan base need. And we're going to get to Saturday and we're going to play Bucknell. I think that's going to be a great environment. And then Duke next Tuesday and it's on. as opposed to tomorrow, which is the Tuesday I kind of dread. I can't wait for next Tuesday. It's going to be fun.

And Kentucky basketball is going to be a lot of fun this year. If you were at the game, 859-280-2287, or even if you watched it home, cats, not only with a big victory, but a fun victory. And I just picked 14 heavy, heavy favorites. Okay, so you didn't win any money? I mean, it was one-to-one.

So I bet 100 and I win 100. Okay. But would you like to know the teams real quick? Yeah, please. I picked Butler over Missouri State win. Tennessee over Gardner Webb, Louisville over Moorhead, Providence over Central Connecticut State, Syracuse over LeMoyne, Pittsburgh over St. Francis, St. Joseph Navy. That was a little close. Seaton Hall, St. Peter's, St. Peter's nearly one.

They almost did it again. Michigan, Cleveland State, West Virginia, Robert Morris, St. John's Fordham, Harvard Marist, and Michigan State Monmouth. All of them were minus 2,000 or greater. But when you added them all together, you about what? I double my money. Oh, well, no, it's hard to make money early in the basketball season. I've heard that. This is what I always do early in the year. take like 10 to 15 big favorites, bet them just to win, and then hope there's no huge upset. Usually there's one game that's close. Tonight it was St. Seton Hall, St. Peter's.

But Seton all hung on. And now we're celebrating. Got the cats win and a 14 team parlay. 14 teams sounds a lot better than the amount of money. Yeah, just leave that part off. 859-28027. Let's get started. I actually walked from my house down here to the studio. So I passed by everybody, and there was such happiness coming outside the arena.

I mean, we were prepared. We played a fun style. We looked like we were competent and not just like turning the ball over and dribbling the ball of the death. Yes. Super excited. You know, even if we went out and. shot the ball terrible, it would be fun to watch. I agree. And the thing about, like, I love the fact that we shot under 50% from three.

I mean, we only made 11 threes and we still scored 103 points. Well, under 50% from three is, you know, that's pretty good. Yes, but I guess more than point than the under 50% is that we only made 11 and we still scored 103. Absolutely. And, you know, it just feels so different. You know, coming into this year, you know, like you said, I mean, we don't know a lot of these players, it seems like. You know, we had all this excitement about all these names that were coming in, but the product on the floor was just not fun to watch.

And this is the opposite. I mean, we might not know every single player, but, man, it's fun to watch. And it doesn't even feel like it matters who's out there at the time. It just feels like we can execute. Yes. That's something that's been missing for years. Totally agree with everything you said, Johnny. I appreciate it.

I mean, everybody can score, you know. I sometimes wish our bigs didn't feel like they could score quite as much as they do, but they also dunk out some people's head. So that's fun. But the other guys, it's just anyone who shoots, anyone who shoots, I feel confident. anyone. Anyone out there except Garrison shooting a three, I'm for it. And they shot one long, too early in the game, Billy. And I was like, no. And then I go, man, we used to do that all the time last year. All the time. That was the preferred shot. But I really enjoyed the first five minutes

of the game. Yeah. I don't know what it was. They were really on the first. They didn't even shoot well those first five minutes, but just the way they were playing, they got steals. I just really, Oh, one-class. What was a play by Patrick Mones? Give me a break. Bring that back. You wish that you could be as good as Patrick. Beat him in the Super Bowl.

Oh, did he get knocked out? Oh, no. Oh, if he's hurt, that's bad. Well, anyway, a great, great performance. I love the back court with Oway and Butler is a defensive nightmare for people. And they get their hands on the ball, which gets the fast. I mean, a 34 to 2 fast breaks at one point. I don't know where that finished, but it's just.

So refreshing and fun to watch, and he was not over the line of scrimmage. So sorry, Billy. Who's next? Sam. Sam. What's up, Sam? I'm going good. I hope I'm better than the home's ankle.

Man, it looks like you heard it right there. Go ahead. I thought what was special to me is when Kerr came into the game, he just brings that energy. I mean, you saw that push. He just wanted to get down the court. But these guys are just playing real basketball, making the actual basketball, making the extra passes I hope we've seen that in a little bit

but you kind of in color before so I mean it's really just refreshing to watch. Yeah, no it is it's refreshing and it's fun you know I like her a lot I think he's probably he had five assists no points so you're right he does push the pace

you know he's the only one I'd like to see him get going from a scoring perspective because that hasn't happened yet but you're exactly right. I love the way I love the pace all these guys play at. They never stop.

They never stop going. There's never a moment, sir, where like it feels like they take, you know, they take a step back or they slow down. I appreciate the call. There's people online saying that might be in Achilles. That would be terrible. Yeah, it just had to get helped off.

That would stink. If that's an Achilles, like, that would be terrible. I hate to see that. You know what I mean? Well, there's already so much great quarterback play in the league right now. Now the best guy goes down. He's got a chance to be like one of the best of all time.

I'm so excited for this team. Every player on this team can step out and shoot a ball. And I think this is going to be a great season. I think that, I think Kentucky fans haven't been as excited for a season in what, seven, eight, ten years. It's a close to last year. That's a great question.

When is the last time a season has started with this much excitement? I mean, I certainly think in 2015 there was that. excitement because we felt like they could be amazing. I can't remember if in 17 with Fox and Monk, we knew how good those guys were going to be. Yeah, they did kind of come on late. Yeah, it may have been. You may be right. I mean, it may have been 15, maybe the Murray-Ulas 16 team, but like it's not, it's been a while. Yeah, yeah. And I think, you know, we've talked about what we had. and Cal was great. He's the coach we needed for this program at that time.

And I think Pope is the coach we need it this time. I think that we've got to turn the page from Coach Cal and look for the future with Pope and make this Kentucky team great again. And I think it's going to happen. And people say that a lot of people said that, you know, Coach Cow's gone, this team, how they're going to recruit. Well, Kentucky basketball was,

here. Like you said, everyone said long before Cal and we'll be here long after we're gone. And you can see with the recruit commitment that Pope is going to be able to recruit here. That's not going to be a problem. Yeah. And I think we're going to be a great team to watch this year. I don't know, you know, how far we can go, but it's going to be fun. Well, let me ask you a question.

You know, the intensity puts on SEC tournaments, you know, that will be fun. correlation with teams that do good in their tournament in their league tournament and teams that win titles. Yeah. Well, I appreciate the call. I'm with you on all that. I agree with all that.

I don't understand why there's this notion that this team can't be really good. Who's saying that? Well, I mean, he said, I don't know how we're good we're going to be. And I've said that most of the year. But what have you seen so far to say we can't be really good? We won by 71 points in the first game. We won by, how much did we beat, did we beat the Minnesota team by? 30 something.

We win by 41 tonight. You know, why can't we be good? What do you need that this team doesn't have? Okay. We got locked down to perimeter defenders. Check. We got bigs. Check.

We got guys who can shoot. We play modern basketball. We got a coach who can coach. Check. The only thing that I could think of that you need that I'm not certain we have is a dude who with a minute left, you need a bucket and he can break somebody down and get him. Maybe that's Robinson. Maybe it's O-A.

But besides that, what do you want? Right? Like, what do you want? I guess you would say maybe you need a draft pick. Maybe you need a superstar. Yeah. From a roster standpoint, I don't think you can ask for much more. Now, an argument would be Pope hasn't won any games in the NCAA tournament.

Fair point. But like, do you get the sense that he doesn't know how to coach? No, not at all. I don't. You know, I mean, we'll find out in the Duke game and then in the Gonzaga game when we're playing these top 10 teams, like how big is the talent discrepancy? Right? But it doesn't feel like it's crazy.

I mean, you know, let's just look. you know, let's take the Fox Monk team. Is Fox better than anybody on this team? Yeah. Is Monk better than anybody on this team? Yeah. Is Bam in college better than anybody on this team? I'm not sure.

I mean, he became an amazing pro. But if this team played that team, you're telling me they couldn't beat them? No, they could. They could. Especially the way they play up-tempo. But, you know, you said it, they only hit, what, 11, 3. and still scored 103 points, that means even as modern basketball as it is, it's not live and die by the 30.

It's not. It's not. Alabama, when Nate Oates first got there was live and die by a three. But now they shoot threes as part of a more coherent offense, and that took them to the final four. I think that's what this could be. That's the mixture. Yeah. It looked like Mahomes is up, so maybe he's okay.

It's really, really, really refreshing to see us be able to guard a ball screen, to run an in-bounds play, to run an offense, to be well-coached.

And this team has experience, and this team is beat. I don't think anybody's talking about how freaking deep this team is. Ten guys, ten guys who've played either big minutes at a major school or been first team all conference in their conference. That's pretty good. And we got that bleeds blue. That's right. And Kirk Crease, think about Kirk Crease. Kurt Crease is probably our ninth or tenth man, at least so far. He started 93 games in a Power 5 conference. Sir, that's pretty good, isn't it? It's really good, Matt. I want to tell you one other thing real quick. This is kind of off of

the whole this team being special, but you was talking about parley's. You'll get a kickout. out of this parlay. I had a four team plus 1258 parlay tonight, just my taking Kentucky on the spread and the over on the total and betting Louisville and Rick Petino of St. John's. Those four plus 12. Well, good for you. A little state of Kentucky parley. Well, I appreciate the call. And yeah, Louisville, Louisville looked good tonight, although nobody was there. Yeah, I saw that picture. Wow. I mean, Kelsey was almost begging in the postgame for people to come to the Tennessee game Saturday. It's kind of sad.

Like, he seems like a good dude. Like, how's anybody going? I mean, there's no, that's a terrible crowd. They announced the crowd at 12,000, which means there was like, not though. You think they need proof of concept or are they just not supporting? Louisville's a party fan base. They show up when the party's good. So if they're good, by January, it'll be full.

They'll be there. That's a party fan base. The party's got to be fun. If the party's not fun, they don't come. I mean, that's, it didn't used to be like that, but I think, I think George made it like that. And so now,

when it's good, it's good for them, but when it's not, I just, I thought they'd have a good crowd tonight. I mean, we had a good crowd. It wasn't full, but that was a really good crowd. So, I think we'll have,

And he wrote me back and he goes, the things you need to fix on television, you'll fix over time. He was like, but you got to get a suit to fit.

I said South Carolina lost at home to North Florida. That's probably the biggest upset so far. A&M ranked 13th the country loses at Central Florida. It's not a great loss, but that's not a horrible loss because you're on their home field. But still, how about this?

Elon. Musk? No. I hope he takes a loss tomorrow. But with six and a half minutes to go, Elon is tied with North Carolina, 69. North Carolina. Wow. Elon was down 12.

at halftime and now tied with six and a half minutes to go. What about that picture of Doug Gowley? He's sweaty. If you guys haven't seen it, go on Twitter. I tweeted it out. Look at the picture of Doug Gawley. Doug Gowb, if you don't know, is coaching Green Bay. Also doing a radio show, which I, how's he doing?

So I think he's got to be a six-minute. I think that's what, I think that's his role on this team. The only way I would dis, maybe there are teams you go small and you play car, at the four or at the five and Jackson or him at the four. But I think otherwise, he's a six-man. Next thing, Kirk Crea. I was coming in with him as like my favorite player. I felt like Pope hyped him up.

I liked him. And he disappointed me today. That second half, in the first half, that was a terrible player. At the game, you can see Pope kind of coaching him up over on the sideline talking about, he kind of just stood there and even looked at him and was like, what were you doing. We're going to need him, though. There's going to be a game.

There's going to be a couple games where we're going to need him. I think he's also, I appreciate the call a reserve, but there's going to be a game where you put him in. I mean, he couldn't score, but he could have scored tonight. He gave up an open layup to kick it out for three, which I thought if anything epitomizes modern basketball more than give up a layup to shoot a three. A couple more things real quick about college basketball. Ohio State is playing Texas.

Like, she's going to be really good. They're all good. Like, that was, you know, I don't know how that good that team was they played, but they were good. Exciting. They play Thursday night at home. I'm going. I hope people will make that a thing because, like, I kind of feel bad for them. They had to play tonight because they didn't get a great crowd because everybody was for this.

I just want to say, like, I feel sorry for whoever plays us when all of our. players like are in sync and making shots. I mean, I feel sorry for whoever that team is. Like, you heard Jimmy Dyke say they didn't really play. meaning right state the way they played last year, which was smart on their part. So we'll get a team that'll run with us and we'll score a lot in that game. Absolutely.

And then also, I don't know if you noticed, but Duke was only up on Maine like 44 to 33 or something at halftime. So, I mean, we may have a chance. Well, I appreciate it. We definitely have a change. Who's going to guard Cooper Flagg? Who cares? Who's going to guard our guys?

Like, Cooper, like, He's going to be great, but that Duke team is like the Kentucky teams early in the year. And they're all freshmen. Yeah. You know. Yeah, I mean, could they beat us? Of course they could. Will they beat us?

Maybe. But like, why do we think we can't compete with him? Just a big stage early on? I think it's just because we've never heard of these guys. Yeah. We somehow think they're chumps. And I mean, maybe I was as guilty as anybody of it. But like, these guys are good.

So for them to kind of just buy in, like, they're playing for the University of Kentucky.

Like, they are playing for the greatest tradition in the history of college basketball. So it's really cool that they're buying into the phrase that this is Kentucky's team. It is very cool to have. And I appreciate the call. We won't have a team like this again. I mean, I think it's clear. Pope's going to go recruit guys who want to be pros, which I think is smart. We'll have dudes like, like it's not going to be a team of all freshmen like Calhead.

but we will have good freshmen every year. I don't think we'll ever have a team like this again, but I like this team because nobody on this team outside of Jackson Robinson and Brandon Garrison probably thinks I'm definitely an NBA player. Right? And it's neat to watch guys like that play. They're playing like this is, I don't want to say it,

because all these guys can have pro careers in Europe if they want, but like, they're playing like this is my stage. Yeah, they're playing like this is my stage. Yeah, this is my stage. This is what I'm here for. This isn't a step to the next thing. This is the thing. And I really like, I like watching guys like that.

And we run a pick and roll just as good as anybody in the country. And then third, this is just the beginning of this team and we're scoring over 100. They only get better and better. I'd be scared to see us come March. I see no lies. I appreciate the call. Why not?

I feel like there's way more voters and potential voters in the middle than are in the extremities. You know, in European countries,
