Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. I'm Joey Dardano. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to me.
Starting point is 00:01:24 This is Help from a Hypocrat, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hippocrite Wednesdays on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was part of it. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Marquis keep coming to you. He's like, you know I love you, dog.
Starting point is 00:01:56 You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just. basketball. So listen to Point Game on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Ready for the game. This is the Kentucky Select Chevy Dealer's KSR preview. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone. It is the Kentucky Select Chevy Dealer's KSR pregame show. I am Matt Jones here live at the KS Bar and Grill where it is absolutely wild. The biggest crowd that I I have ever seen at this place. Maybe period, certainly for a basketball game.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Let me ask your question. Are we beating Arkansas tonight? Yeah. Unbelievable. Seriously, not an inch of this place does not have a human being standing in it. I maybe the Georgia game for football the one year that if we beat them, we thought we could do some.
Starting point is 00:02:57 I don't know, Drew. I'm not sure I've ever seen this many people in here and they are wild. Most of them know they're not getting a table for anything. They just want to be in here to get ready for the game. I've been here almost three hours and when I got to the parking lot it was like the football game day parking lots.
Starting point is 00:03:12 I'm like down there by the hospital. I come in here. I was supposed to get a table for someone. Sorry about that. It's a standing room only but this is a great atmosphere and it's not just the amount of people. Everyone in here is so excited. That's exactly right. There is such energy. Downtown
Starting point is 00:03:27 people everywhere. I'm telling you if you're going to the game, you can figure out where you go park. Maybe just park here, although I don't know if there's any spots here. Just walk. It's going to be, it's going to be a wild night in Lexington. Ryan, you know, Kyle Mann is here from the ringer, and he was asking me like, okay, when has it been like this for a Kentucky game? And I, you know, we've had really big games, but the fact that it's at nine o'clock,
Starting point is 00:04:00 you get all day to get wrecked, right? I was trying to think. Kentucky played Florida the year after they won the title when they brought Noah and all those guys back. Yeah. We lost, but game day was here. I camped out for 24 hours on pavement for that one. There you go. I remember that one.
Starting point is 00:04:17 That game was at 9 o'clock, so you had all day. And I remember that being like, wow, this city is crazy. I don't know, man. I mean, Patino, that game was during the day. The Kentucky Carolina games were during the day. I don't know for a nine, I don't know that we've ever seen this before. It sets up almost perfect for a big blue nation, man. You've had all day long to get ready for this.
Starting point is 00:04:38 Downtown has been a zoo since this morning. People camping out at Rupp Arena. I mean, not just our restaurant, all restaurants, all hotels. Everything is all blue right now. I mean, let's just do it like historically for a second. I mean, if you were to write the history of Kentucky basketball, the three most important names would probably be Adolf Rup, Rick Patino, and John.
Starting point is 00:04:59 John Calapar. That's fair. And the idea that one of them is coming back a year afterwards with a different team that's a conference rival that he left here to go to, it's almost an unbelievable thing to happen. And then he would be replaced by disciple of the second guy on the list, who would become beloved after the third had sort of dropped off. It's Shakespearean in some way.
Starting point is 00:05:29 and here it is playing out before our eyes. The only way it could be better would be if they were actually good, which they're not, but nevertheless, it's just, it's like drama of the highest scale. And the fact that College Game Day is not here is insane. Because Duke Carolina play twice every year, we may not get this again ever in Rupp Arena, in terms of this kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Are there more people here than Game Day in KS Bar? There may be. That was sad. There are more cars in that. parking lot than we're in day. I know that this whole situation. I was thinking about it today. I don't know if it's outside of tournament runs. The biggest day in Kentucky basketball history, but I mean, you can't have this situation of a regular season. They have a comparison. What's better? I'm not saying final fours and titles, but regular season. It's for,
Starting point is 00:06:20 I would say older fans would go the first time Kentucky and Louisville play, right? Like that, that had never happened before. And then they play. and sort of all that went into that. But this is just a wild scenario. This is like Coach Kay going to Virginia or Bill Self going to Iowa. We won't see this probably happen again. And have we seen it before? Yeah, I mean, Rick.
Starting point is 00:06:40 But you're right, very, very weird. The Rick Petino, his first game at Rupperin against Tubby was incredible. But Louisville wasn't very good. To answer your question, if Arkansas was really good, like if they were 8 and 1 or something, I think I might be sweating bullets. I'd be scared to death. I'm a little nervous about this game anyway. Well, I'm nervous just because.
Starting point is 00:06:58 But my nervousness is not rationality. I mean, if this were, if this were Arkansas, with anybody besides John Calapary as a coach, I wouldn't even be nervous. And it's not even about his ability. It's just about all that this is about. You know what I mean? It's not really about the game itself. That's kind of my point.
Starting point is 00:07:19 The Rick thing was one thing, but it's a different era. It's not just Cal. He took players. He took coaches. He took managers. That's why this is a situation. Took our student manager for crying out. I literally have not seen this in college basketball and were a couple hours from it down the street.
Starting point is 00:07:33 I mean, he took the whole operation. He even talked about it himself. If you think about it, I mean, the in-conference part of it is also rare. The only time I can remember in recent years this happening on a much smaller scale, Ed Cooley left Providence for Georgetown. He was very beloved. They just destroyed him when he came back. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:54 I mean, a lot of talk this week about what's going to happen. And we'll get to that a little bit later. But it is, there is a game that's going to be played. And I was thinking driving here, because I had to sit in traffic, about the, like everybody else today. The matchups. Okay. So on one level, our strength is their weakness. We shoot the three well.
Starting point is 00:08:18 They don't guard it well. We also let people shoot the three and they don't make them. But they are good at driving to the basket, which is the three. the thing we defend the worst. So it's weird. You know, they have Big Z who's kind of a weak, big man. I think Amari's a pretty good defender for him. I worry about the Adieu matchup. I don't think Ansley-Albanor and Kobe Brea or Andrew or a hobbled Andrew Carr are going to be great defenders. But I also don't know who they have that's going to guard Robinson and O.A. So it'll be interesting. Yeah, and without Lamont Butler, you know, he's not going. So Kentucky,
Starting point is 00:08:57 Obviously, he'll go with that lineup of Brea, Otega, and Robinson on the perimeter. Like we said yesterday, you can make an argument that they're a better offensive team with those guys. So if Arkansas gives them all those threes, those are the three guys you probably want on the floor. How many points do we have to score to where, if I told you we score this amount, you would go. I feel very confident we would. 49. I'm serious. I'm not.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I worry about the pregame show jinx. I'm not going to get too cocky. But Mark Pope is about to put that coaching staff's brain. and a pretzel. Do you think Chin Coleman knows about Mari Williams bringing the ball to court? Do you think he has anything for that? They're going to look at each other and go, what in the hell are they running? Yeah. Yeah. And then also, we're just going to run the recipe with Tennessee. They're going to sag off and dare them to shoot. The last couple minutes of Tennessee was hilarious, and I think that's what we're going to see today. These were the
Starting point is 00:09:47 teams that gave Cal the hardest time at Kentucky. Teams that played like Pope. Cow just, I mean, Oakland played like this, right? Like, he just couldn't guard teams like So it's hard to see that that's gotten better. You know, my only worry is you get a dude to score 20, and then John L. Davis decides to beat the player he hasn't been all year. It goes back to his Florida Atlantic days when he took him to the final four. To me, that's the only scenario where I see us not winning. I think the crowd, I mean, that's a whole, like, what is the crowd going to be like?
Starting point is 00:10:20 It's going to be wild, isn't it? The crowd's already this year, even for like Brown and Colour? have been awesome, loud, into the game, stay to the end of the game. It will be triple that today. But you know, Arkansas only had two offensive threats most of the season, boogie flan and a dude. Well, boogie flans out.
Starting point is 00:10:39 So now they've really just got that, just one offensive threat, ado, and it's like you said, he gets most of his action driving to the basket. Well, John L. Davis should be a threat. He hasn't been, yeah. But he should be. I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:10:51 It's so weird. And, you know, then you're having have everything that goes into. I mean, after saying the UK Arkansas game didn't matter, Seth Greenberg, they spent two-thirds of the show today talking about that game. Yeah, while they're at Duke, they're talking about that game. What a way, shout out on Andrea Carter for being the only one there with a personality. Like, she had the greatest line during the show about going into the club with the downgrade,
Starting point is 00:11:18 and those old men just looked at her like, who are you? That's the first time I'll watch the game day in a long time. That'll be the last time. That show is made for people that still twist their VCR into their body. Fox TV. Like that is not a young production. That line was great and they didn't even smile. They stared at her like they didn't even know what she was talking about. It was unbelievable. And you said this on Twitter. The football game day would have eaten that up. They would have fallen out of a chair. Yes. Greenberg just stared. It looked like he was a mannequin up there. Jason. Jay Will and Reese were the only ones that even acted like they knew what she had said. Honestly, if I ran ESPN, it's probably a difficult thing to say since I am an employee. If I ran ESPN, I would use that clip to say, I got to change this show. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Like, I got to change. That should have been, like, the viral moment of the day with the reaction. Imagine if she says that with Kenny, Charles, and Shaq. Oh. Right? Like, that's, and they would have a graphic of cow walking into the club with a hog or something, right? Instead, they all started talking about their wives. Yeah, I mean, who can't?
Starting point is 00:12:21 Like, so anyway, I, I, I, but regardless of all that, it's going to be wild. ticket prices, you know. I mean, I got people, I know people going this game who haven't been to a game in 10 years. I mean, literally, like, they were like, I'm going to that one. I talked to a lot of people here before our show. They're from everywhere, Atlanta, Pennsylvania, Michigan. You know, because they want to come and be a part of this game. If there's one game you're going to spend the money on, you want to be in there tonight.
Starting point is 00:12:50 Are you going? I've only been in, I've gone to every SEC game, SEC tournament game, Every NCAA tournament game, we've gone to some road games. I have only been to one home game since COVID. Really? Variety reasons for that. Well, I've been to games, but in the crowd. I haven't gone as a media member.
Starting point is 00:13:15 I've been to one game since COVID. And part of that was the cow thing. And part of it was, you know, our seats are now up in the, you can't even see. So I went, but I was like, I got to be there tonight. So like when this leaves, I'm going to go, I'm going to park my car. I want to be in there for that moment. I'll probably then watch the game at home because I'm too nervous to stay. But Drew, like there is a sense of this will be one of those iconic moments in the few minutes leading up the game.
Starting point is 00:13:42 And I hate for a lot of people listening on the radio, you might not even get to see it on TV because they might be showing the Duke Carolina again. Yeah. I haven't missed many home games in 15 years. I go to all of them. I even get a little immune to it. But last night I'm trying to go to bed. I look over and it's 4 a.m. And I'm like, you have to go to sleep.
Starting point is 00:13:58 I wake up at 7 and I just start walking around my house with headphones on because of the excitement I have for this game. And, you know, I like to think I'm pretty good at Lexington. I get about town a little bit. I don't know that I've seen this city like this. There were people here on Thursday going crazy in bars. Last night was wild. I really think we're going to see Rupp Arena like we've never seen it before. You know, we just to give you an example on something I know, which is the final.
Starting point is 00:14:25 of this place. We have an amount that we think we will do for home Saturday basketball games. We did it by 5 o'clock this afternoon. Nice. Before the pregame show even started, because people were here when we opened the door at 11 a.m. I was here at 1.30, and there are some faces I'm seeing that were here at 1.30. So, you know, now, for those of you listening at home who want to watch the game here, this place is insane right now. All these people are going to leave. All these people are going to leave and go to the game.
Starting point is 00:15:01 So if you were to come here at like 715, 7.30, you can get here to watch the game. All these people, if you walk up here right now, you'd be like, this ain't happening. But all these people will leave, and then there will be a game crowd here afterwards, and I think this will be an amazing place to watch the game. It will be an amazing place. If there's any advice we can give you, go early. Whatever time you think about going down to Rup Arena for the game, if you're going, go earlier than that.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Because you want to be inside, in your seat. When the players are introduced, Cal walks out, when Cal is introduced. And I heard a little, I got a little scuttle butt. Okay, wait a minute. I'm going to wonder if it's the same scuttle butt I have. Okay. So I have some scuttle butt. Let's see if your scuttle butt is the same.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Because I think if we have two scuttle butts, two cheeks will make a scoop. Well, mine's about the introduction. There you go, two scuttle cheeks. Here's about the introductions? Mine's not. Okay. So, go ahead. Like, they've got it playing.
Starting point is 00:15:53 Like, whenever they announced John Caliper. they're going straight to the video. So I think that noise of the video will drown out a lot of the booing or applause. I actually think that will make people boo loud. I think they're going to want to be heard. Yeah. Well, I mean, I understand why they're doing it. Now, Tubby was at the airport this morning.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Yeah. What are the chances Tubby's the W? If he's truly in Lexington and at the game, it's that there's no other option. It's Tubby. He's never been the Y. He got his high point moment. Has he never been the Y? He was coaching that game.
Starting point is 00:16:25 the pre-game jersey retirement but you know he's in a time out even though we're down by 50 he didn't get to be the Y and he hasn't been back since that was his first time back so tubby is got to be good got to be awesome would be awesome there's no way Rick Patino gets on a plane and comes I'm already expecting you I don't know anything I mean they they they're game finished he could have gotten here and they won they were done it too there's no I mean that the thing about tubby is you can bring him in it like cow loves tubby pope loves tubby it's fine you bring Rick Now that's a whole other thing. I want the Y to be Tubby and Rick, like tubby left arm, Rick, right arm.
Starting point is 00:17:03 They're standing together. Yeah, make a double Y. Like a double coach. Yeah, that would be awesome. Bring Billy back. He's out driving around New Circle right now anyway. You think you would bring Billy back? What's your percentage chance?
Starting point is 00:17:13 Rick Patino shows up. Low, but I wouldn't say it's crazy. Like, he made the video. So St. John Spans' head would explode if he shows up. How about Richard's tweet today? That was funny. That was really good. 859-280-2287.

Duke, North Carolina is already 18 to 6, so maybe they should come here. Although I hope that's our score too, to be honest with. This guy right here was just saying to me, he said if you had told me when John Caliperi came here that we'd get 14 years of him and we would during that time, did we get 14 or 15? 15. 15. 15. 15. 15. years of him. We'd have 10 really good years, five slip, one national title for Final Fours, do you take it? And the answer is probably yes, Drew, but remember what I always say on the show. The two days that matter the most in your working life are your first and your last. And he couldn't
Starting point is 00:22:03 have had a better first day. And in a lot of ways, the last was about as bad as you could have too, which is why I think you get the mixed emotions that you see throughout Big Blue Nade. He was way too hot too early if you flip it and he was a gradual climb from the billy golespie era and we see slow progress and it ends with those first years i mean it's a perfect run but he he was too good in the beginning and the end was too bad to to bring it back for another run can i be honest with you yes i'm starting to have those mixed emotions i saw the jimmy dykes interview with coach cow this afternoon and it was pulling at my heartstrings man i'm guilty why did that i've heard people say that why did that change your mind i mean it's the same stuff he's always said
Starting point is 00:22:43 This is just me. He came across very sincere, very emotional. Talk about how much he loved this place. It was 15 great years. His family loves this place. All of his friends that are here. But that's all true. I got to admit it.
Starting point is 00:22:58 But that's what Rick said when he was at Louisville, and you didn't cheer him. I did not cheer Rick Petino. I don't remember if Rick ever said anything like that. Rick called it Camelot even while he was at Louis. Yeah. This, I don't know. Like I said, I'm just being honest. I got a little bit of a mixed emotions.
Starting point is 00:23:13 Okay. So with all that said, I guess it is worth asking what happens when his name gets announced. Let's leave aside the music thing, although I do think that's important if that's what they're going to do. What happens when they announce his name? Having been here a while, I took a lot of the temperature of people here, and it is 99% boo at least in here, and they're can't wait to get down there and do it. I mean, they're bragging about how hard they're going to boo in here. Well, there you go.
Starting point is 00:23:39 I know. I just think the 9 p.m. tip did John Caliperi no favors. true. I think if it had been noon, it had been different. I did hear a group of students say there was, somebody went and interviewed students. Mario did, but it wasn't on Mario's. It was on somebody else. There was a group of students, and one of them said, I didn't come here and stand in line at 6 in the morning to cheer.
Starting point is 00:24:00 And I thought to myself, you know, that's probably true. The kind of person that went and stood in line all day. They ain't going that early. They didn't probably go to cheer. Three minute or not in Cal's interview, he said the point I've been making. He said, you all have to remember, I'm coming here to ruin your day. Yeah. Like, I love Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:24:20 I have fond memories, but I'm not here for that. I'm here to beat you. So he actually expected the booing. They're getting warmed up right now. I want you to hear that booing, and this guy didn't even coach here. So I'm getting like, you know. Welcome, John. It's up.
Starting point is 00:24:35 John. What a welcome I got here. See, I was going to say everyone was so nice. You know, they've been nice for three days. But when you get a nine o'clock start and people have been drinking, all day this is going to be the reaction it's been awesome you have been here since Thursday this is John neighbors he hosts the show in in Fayetteville what how's it been for you know honestly like this has been an awesome experience I have
Starting point is 00:24:56 loved my time in Lexington it's my first time here first time in Rupp Arena and everyone's been really nice really classy it's I was expecting a lot worse I will admit but I think when you're one and six it's a lot easier to what do you think about this crowd like it's wild you know I've heard I've actually this in the paper this morning that I read the paper yeah it's apparently Kentucky loves their basketball you know and I just heard about this and I was like oh man look at this press you read the paper yeah yeah well you know these days you know who to trust these days so I mean we talk a lot about what we pay what do the
Starting point is 00:25:31 Arkansas fans think of this is this just like a party they're not invited to and they're just kind of looking on bemused I would say it's more of a it's like This isn't about us. Yeah, we know it's not about us. Yeah. It's about Cal versus Kentucky. It is. And we've accepted that role.
Starting point is 00:25:49 And it's more of just, hey, Cal's going to be maybe wearing red tonight. Who knows? If he does, but it's just about. That's an interesting question. Is there any chance he does? The Jackson's a great question. How about not thought? Is he going to wear red?
Starting point is 00:26:01 He can't not wear red coaching Arkansas tonight at Rup, can he? He's got to wear red. Okay, wait a minute. What's he wearing right there? That's red. That's bad lighting. That's maroon. That's like a Texas A&M color, I feel like.
Starting point is 00:26:15 The average ticket price tonight is $633. That's probably what I'm going to end up paying here in a second. It's the highest men's college basketball ticket price in history. You don't have a ticket? No, I don't have a ticket yet. Well, good luck. I've been monitoring it very heavily, though. Yeah, keep monitoring.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Well, I mean. Listen, you can't put a price on a great college basketball game between two historic teams, right? Well, one historic team and then there's another team. There's another team that's there. All right, so give me your best case, worst case scenario. If you're previewing Arkansas, for our fans who haven't watched it, what happens to know? Well, best case scenario is that Cal gets ejected because he's so fired up, and then Kenny Payne comes and takes over the team.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Well, he's had a good success. And he leads him to a victory, just like he did against Arkansas years ago. And then we don't get to hear from Cowan post-game press conference instead Kenny Payne. So if he wins he'll have like 20% of his whole win total at Louisville So that would be it'll add a lot it'll add a lot to him that's the best Well listen I've been we've been happy to have you here no it's been great I enjoy yourself tonight and good luck for the rest of the season and you know once this one gets out of the way It won't be the same on the rest of them but John I hope you enjoyed it do you
Starting point is 00:27:33 No I hope you enjoyed the trip I don't know trip okay I thought I don't hope you enjoy tonight I hope you have a miserable two hours then I Afterwards, I hope you have a good evening, and the Kentucky fans treat you will. Well, if the game goes my way, I'll be back here. There won't be anybody here. By the way, if we lose, we're closing the moment the game is over. We've been open all day. We are closing the moment the game is over.
Starting point is 00:27:58 Like, we are shutting. I have a memo. If we lose, close immediately. Haven't seen it. KS. Bar haven't seen it. KS. Bar, haven't seen it. John, thank you very much.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Appreciate you guys, ma'am. So back to what we were saying. You feel weird about it. I'm starting to. I still feel, I remember those good times we had with him, and I see him and he looks so sad. I'm pulling on my heartstrings a little bit. I've got to admit it.
Starting point is 00:28:24 My takeaway from the interview was Jimmy Dyke's outfit. I've missed the first four minutes because of his full zip hoodie under a blazer. You know, he's hip. He is hip. Probably had no socks on. He's cool dad. Cool dad. Don't you know? Cool dad.
Starting point is 00:28:40 859-280-2287. We will take a break. We will get to your calls. We are here at KSmart Grill. Cats and Hogs, the return to Caliperies, two hours away. This is the Kentucky Select Chevy Dealer's KSR. Pretty good. Welcome to the Chevy Lightning Round.

Starting point is 00:29:28 Noisy gems, hits to the head, and other loud hobbies really took a toll on my hearing. The ringing in my ears got so bad that I had trouble talking on the phone and watching TV. That's when I found Bluegrass Hearing Clemm. Dr. Heath was able to assess my hearing needs, and after having the hearing aids in, I was able to better control my tentatives. I can go back to live my life as I was. Starting point is 00:30:34 Because you hit a gas line and it's going to cost you. Not to mention that it's also very dangerous. Now, where's your phone? Good. Call 811 before you dig. One call, and you'll know where to dig every time. So call 811. No problems, no accident, no fines.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Oh, and, uh, it's the law. Ever wonder where the capital A and Chick-fil-A came from? It started with grade A top-quality chicken, but we believed everything, not just the food, should be grade A. Hi, I'm Jura. I am a team leader at Chick-Fillay. To me, the A and Chick-fil-A is a smile. I want to give the guests a little encouragement,
Starting point is 00:31:14 maybe just a little joke that makes them laugh when they come through the drive-thru. The A and Chick-fil-A is for all the little things we do to bring you our best every day. Real team member paid for their testimonial. ADU's accessory dwelling units are now permitted in Kentucky. Starting point is 00:32:10 This is the Kentucky Select Chevy dealers KSR preview. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. It is the Kentucky. Kentucky Select Chevy Dealer's KSR pregame show. 859-28027. We welcome the folks at 981, the Bull. We are here at the KS Bar and Grill,
Starting point is 00:32:31 and it is an absolutely wild environment. Probably the most people I can ever remember here, certainly for a pregame of basketball, maybe for anything. I was talking to the manager. She said the only time she thinks there were more people in here was when we beat Houston in the Sweet 16, our first year we were open during that game that was in, I think, Kansas City.
Starting point is 00:32:55 And that's the only time she thinks there's been this many people. I mean, it's not super warm in Lexington, and our patio is completely packed. People standing everywhere. I think they just want to soak up as much of this excitement environment as they possibly can. Well, this is why you're a Kentucky fan of our nights like tonight, right? Like, this is something we do that almost nobody else does, and we should take a moment to really enjoy it. Of course, we have to win or the memory won't be quite as good.
Starting point is 00:33:22 Well, I was thinking that on my way here, not to get too emotional, but win or lose, boo or cheer, whatever you think about the game. This is why we have sports. This is exciting right here. I agree. All day, I mean, I'm trying to focus on stuff around the house. I can't even eat. My brain is Kentucky Arkansas.
Starting point is 00:33:37 Kentucky Arkansas. It's been like that since 7 a.m. You don't get many games like that. You go entire years without having games like this that just lives in your brain. You've been looking excited to for so long. And that's why we do it. Hopefully it ends in a win, but so far, this has been fun up to this point. This is what this is exactly why you do it.
Starting point is 00:33:53 This is what makes Kentucky basketball unique. This is why it's such an honor for both of these guys to have coached here as you get to have this moment, and this is why this fan base is the best. And this is also why, you know, it was so ridiculous for people to say, well, nobody cares about this outside of Kentucky, Arkansas. So who cares? We care about it more than anybody.
Starting point is 00:34:21 And that emotion, I don't care what happens when they announce his name, that clip is going to live forever, just like Rick's coming in, live forever. Yeah, when they posted Rick's, him coming in the Rupp Arena that first time, the booze were super, super loud. I remember that moment, man. I mean, you sit there and you just, you can feel it. You can feel it on your skin. It's going to be that way, maybe even more so, I think, tonight.
Starting point is 00:34:43 Yeah, well, here we go. 859-280-2287. Let's talk to a couple people. Who's up first? Christian. Christian, go ahead, Christian. Hey, guys. Look, I know everybody wants the emotional hedge,
Starting point is 00:34:57 but I'm here to bring us down to reality. In conference play, Arkansas has averaged 64 points a game. Against power competition, we've averaged 94 points a game at home. That's a 30-point difference for them to make. up here in this game. I would say Arkansas probably has to score 80 to beat us. And they haven't scored more than 75 in a game in the FCC so far. So like I get the cows back. There's like mojo with all that. But like when you really just break it down, that's a huge, huge margin for them to make up. I think we'll kill them tonight.
Starting point is 00:35:36 I think that's that is the that is a very cogent. I appreciate the call analysis. Objectively, there's no reason to pick Arkansas. Just objectively looking at the game. I mean, if I were to make the best case for Arkansas, it would be, okay, well, they do penetrate well, that's our weakness. But they don't score, we do. They defend decent, but not great. We kind of score well against anybody.
Starting point is 00:36:02 If John Kelly Perry wasn't the coach, I mean, there's no sweating this game. Again, I'm trying to knock and don't want to jinx anything on the pregame show. But just from a basketball standpoint, matchup standpoint, this is a nightmare for Arkansas. all. They have like the SEC's 10th best defense. And they're supposed to be a good defense. They're at the bottom of the SEC in defense. I just think and not getting into the coaching too much, but we know that staff that Cal has and we know that staff that Pope has and who do you think was putting in the most work and the creativity that they have. I think they're going to do some things that
Starting point is 00:36:32 coach Cal staff honestly doesn't know what to do. They're going to look and be like, I don't I've never seen that. Is that they're cheating? And the things we're weak at, they're not a great offensive rebounding team. That's something we've given up. They're not a very physical defensive team. Usually Cal's teams are, but they're not really. So like the things we've shown vulnerabilities to, they're not really, they don't really have those things.
Starting point is 00:36:55 Like you and I said the other day, we've probably watched, Kentucky's the only team we've watched more than Arkansas. I've watched a lot of Arkansas games. They're just not good, and they struggle so much offensively. Like I said, when a dude is your main offensive threat in most games, you've got to feel pretty good about yourself. If Z hits a three, does he get applause? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:14 Z's getting cheer. I think there's still a soft spot for Z, and maybe see you next year for Big Z from Big Blue Nation. Does he get a- Maybe not applause, like a cheer that it went in, but it won't. If the game is like comfy. I mean, if it's a two-point game, they're not doing a plus. But like, let's say we were up 17 with four minutes to go and he hit a three.
Starting point is 00:37:35 They're going to show love. I can see us cheering, Matt. He's still one of us. They stole him for a year. I guess the other thing is. What if Z hits three or four three? Now, that's different now. No one's cheering that.
Starting point is 00:37:45 Nobody's cheering that. He's got to remember who got him into school halfway through the semester. Who brought him over here? Who put up a billboard? He knows where home is. He knows exactly who's got his back and who doesn't. He would have been good in this office. Yes, he would.
Starting point is 00:37:57 He would have. Maybe next year. Who's up next? Andy. Andy. Go ahead, Andy. Can you hear me? Yes.
Starting point is 00:38:06 All right, well, I just want to start out by giving a rewind of the last four years. You know, he comes out of the COVID era with a 9 and 16 record. Does, performs terribly in the SEC tournament every time since he's been there. No SEC titles. We lose to Oakland. We lose to St. Peters. We lose at home three times in a row in Rupp Arena, the first time in program history.
Starting point is 00:38:35 Yeah. We get all these guys like Shaden Sharp or aren't even playing. and they're just here to use the facilities and mooch off of what Kentucky has to offer. And then you hear these national media guys like Chef Greenberg tune in and say, oh, well, the fan base is spoiled, they're entitled, they, you know, who else are they going to get? Well, you know, Kentucky basketball, we're not a circus show. We're not defined by John Caliperi. We've won with other people besides him from year to year.
Starting point is 00:39:09 And, you know, if that's going to be the performance over the last four years, I better hear all of Rupp Arena standing up on their feet booing him. All right, there you go. I'm about to cut you off because I got to go, but I appreciate the call. That was a good case for the other side. Yes, it was. I think there's going to. So I thought that the cheering was going to be louder.
Starting point is 00:39:31 It still, I think, will be there. But there, the 9 o'clock, as Drew said, Ryan, I think it does him in a little bit. I think the 9 o'clock gets different reactions. And it does just seem like just based on the crowd that's in here that's going to the game, they are fired up already. Like I said, before they even go down there, they are chomping at the bit to watch that man walk out and let them hear it, let him hear it. Does he get it?
Starting point is 00:39:54 Does he get the boo when he walks out or when they call his name? Both. Both. When he talks to the ref, when he does anything. Yeah. That he will really get booed for. If he is yelling at the ref, that will be. Well, we just can't lose.
Starting point is 00:40:11 Someone just sent me a video and I'm walking in. Yeah. It's just in the back. I mean, just coming into the building. Yeah, they just showed. I think they just showed that on the end. Yeah, it's a maroon code. So let me ask you this.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Another talking point like Kentucky's guys don't have really players don't have a lot of an emotional attachment to this game, unlike the Arkansas players. Well, that's an interesting thing. Like, only three people playing in this game really have an attachment the way that we do. Yeah. And it's three guys for them. Is that good or bad?
Starting point is 00:40:39 Like, do you like that they have that? I mean, if you're Jackson Robinson and all these guys, like, they're probably more excited for the Auburn game or the Tennessee game, right? Like, this is, so it's interesting. Jackson Robinson, well, he's the one because he played there. So he actually does have that attachment. Even though with him, it's a logo to him, no one that was there with his experience is a part of it. So, I mean, he'll fill it with the school, but he's not looking over at faces he recognizes.
Starting point is 00:41:04 It's a completely different look for when he was there. But I think the team, and I mentioned this earlier in the week, I don't know if Pope would say, hey, guys, this one actually does mean more because normally you try not to do that. But I bet those players already know that they need to play this one for Pope. So even though the pressure is not the same that it do feels and DJ feels and Big Z feels, I bet the pressure, they still feel a little bit knowing we got to get this one for Pope. It'll be interesting to see if those guys in Arkansas feel the same way about Cal.
Starting point is 00:41:31 I mean, Myron Metcalf said to me last week, you're going to see how much Arkansas's players like that. That video wasn't very inspiring last night. You know, like Arkansas, are Arkansas players going to, because they know how much this means to him, are they going to go out there and try to give that to him? That's a great conversation. Do you want to step up for your coach?
Starting point is 00:41:50 You're going to give a little extra for your coach. Do you want to do everything you can so your coach can win this game that means so much to the coach? Yeah. I mean, there's no one in the world. This is, okay, so let me play good guy for just one. second. Because everybody's accused me of like firing on trying to encourage booze. I'm not. I would not boo. But I do think Gary Parrish had the best argument for not booing. And I sent him a voice
Starting point is 00:42:18 message and told him this. He basically said this and this is going to be my positive moment. Okay. This is positive man. In my house, cheer against him all night. For everyone listening to this, this is a big deal to us. But we will all get up tomorrow and we will move on with our lives. We play Ole Miss Tuesday night. We're going to be into it no matter what. We will remember this moment, but we will not fixate on this moment forever. He will.
Starting point is 00:42:48 This will be one of the bigger things of his coaching life is tonight. Whatever happens, he will remember forever. And Gary Parrish's point was, If you have a chance to give a person joy, or have a chance to give them pain, why not just give them joy? Now, I'm not saying I totally agree with that, but I also don't think that's a crazy point to say,
Starting point is 00:43:17 look, that first time, it's going to matter to him more than it matters to any of us. So just keep that in mind. That was his point, and I actually thought that was a valid point. It's a very valid point. And while we're throwing flowers... And Gary Perez is someone who doesn't like Caliperi at all. But he is the one who said that.
Starting point is 00:43:40 I think it's a very valid point. So the flowers we should give, you know, Calipari raised a lot of money to help a lot of people in this state. The flooding victims, the tornado victims. That's great. I don't think that has anything to do with sports booing, though. To be fair to people. There's not one person in here who wouldn't say it was awesome
Starting point is 00:43:58 what Cal did for flooding and tornado. Not one person. That really doesn't have anything to do, though, with this. I kind of don't like Drew when people can play that. You know, no one is ungrateful for Coach Cal and the communities around Kentucky. I mean, that's silly. This is separate. This is a basketball game.
Starting point is 00:44:14 It's a competition. Pope said that. On the thing about this interaction and giving him joy, I hear that. I don't disagree. But also, there's consequences for your actions. And when you're thinking about going to Arkansas, your brain should be like, well, I'm going to have to play Kentucky. And if I'm really going to make this jump, I'm going to be put in this awkward spot one day. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:29 So he doesn't just get a pass on that. And that's the other side. He went to Arkansas knowing this day was coming, and he made that decision. Yep. Totally agree. This wasn't like, you know, he's in another conference and a random draw on the tournament. Oh, no, I got paired with him. No, he knew this game was going to happen when he signed the contract.
Starting point is 00:44:43 And that's the counterpoint and that's a fair point. I don't think it's fair, though, because this will happen if he gets booed. People will go, look what all he did. You know, Billy Gillespie was a disaster here. And you know what? He also did good stuff. He really did. He also donated money to children's cancer.
Starting point is 00:44:59 They're like... In the big dance blue moment where he cried. Exactly. People are complicated people. Nobody's all good. Nobody's all bad. You know, it is, as you said earlier in a week, it's sports hate. It's not real hate.
Starting point is 00:45:13 And I think that's important to remember as well. 859-28027. We're going to take a break and come back. It's Kentucky Select Chevy Dealer's KSR pregame show. Good job, baby. Let's go. Come on, boy. This KSR preview is presented by.

All right, those of you in town who want to come to the game to come watch here, like I said, give it 30, 40 more minutes. This place is going to clear out. It's clearing out slower than I thought it would, but I still think it will clear out. And then you can be ready for the game, and I think it should be to be fun.
Starting point is 00:49:38 It's definitely something, if they win and we've got a packed house in here, this is a deep place to be because it can be a lot of fun in here. Yeah, if we lose, though, either. Where are you all percentage? I'm, like, 90% excited, 10% nerves. What is your excitement versus nerves break down there? Like nervous about losing. 60-40. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:49:58 Just because I want it for Pope. Yeah. You know what I mean? I, yeah, I just, I want it for Pope. I've now, over the court, I've met both his wife and all, but I think one of his daughters, just randomly, all at different times. Really? And they're all just so nice.
Starting point is 00:50:18 And then you take how nice Mark is. And I want it for them. I don't want this to hang over them. Like it doesn't have a huge effect on the season either way. But I don't want it to be something, Ryan, that hangs over him. Because otherwise, I think this season has been like perfection for him. Yeah, you know, you beat Duke Louisville and Tennessee, your three rivals. People are going to be happy no matter what.
Starting point is 00:50:42 But this game would hang over him. If he can't win this one tonight, Cal's four. first trip back, the guy he replaced. Are you pointed, that was strong. What's that? You said that like you were Stephen A. Like this game would hang over here. Well, I feel a little Stephen A.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Ryan A. 559-2802, 27. Who's next? Matt. Matt. Go ahead, Matt. Hey, guys. What's up?
Starting point is 00:51:07 Kind of piggybacking off Christian's take earlier. You know, Kentucky, I think I thought, Kentucky's like 28th in the Texas for games. Arkansas is a hundred twenty-eight. I mean, we'll run in two guards, you know, with DJ and John L. I mean, is it a pace game for the cast? I mean, when it's that 10-minute mark in the second half, I could just see this, just take it off.
Starting point is 00:51:29 And then another thing on that game day with Greenberg, it's funny that he will hold Dan Hurley's water and take up for him with his shenanigans, which I'm the best coach, and then is very quick to criticize Kentucky fans is a little holier than now. It's kind of the comedy of just ignoring Kentucky today on game day. You're exactly right.
Starting point is 00:51:50 But you know what? The good thing is his opinion matters less and less, and as long as that show is not great, you're going to have the same situation. I appreciate the call. 8.9-2-8. I mean, literally, it's 40 to 50. Good grief.
Starting point is 00:52:03 And it ain't going to get closer. I mean, did Caleb Wilson commit to a program that's not going to have a coach? Yeah, maybe. By the way, I think Duke and Auburn are the two best teams, And I think it's, the Auburn game was actually very impressive. They did not play well today and still won at Old Miss. At Ole Miss, yeah. Like that was, I think that was, I mean, I don't think they'll go undefeated
Starting point is 00:52:24 because they still got to play Alabama twice and they got to play us. But like, they're pretty good, you know. Everybody on the floor on the floor can shoot the three for them if they are so dangerous. With our late game, this is the most SEC basketball I've watched on Saturday. And as I can remember, and I've watched every game. And that one was tight with about, it was a two-point game. little bit left but they pulled away but they just looked so good yeah and you know Missouri is six and two Missouri is is all 18 last year and they have the same coach it's not like they
Starting point is 00:52:52 brought in somebody new he just went from oh and 18 he might still SEC coach of the year from Pope yeah they're really good if they stay like this he deserves it I mean to go from oh and 18 to six and two is kind of wild who's next chester and they won by like 30 yeah Mississippi State Chester go ahead hey Matt I'm listening I tore the pieces about all this. Here will be my dream. Here it would be my dream. When the players are now, we cheer them.
Starting point is 00:53:21 And at some point in the game, we get a Tyler Eulish chant going because he's my favorite player in basketball for the University of Kentucky in all time, and I don't think he would want to be there. I think he would rather be here if he could. And then if I could just have my druthers on the cow thing, we don't have to cheer him,
Starting point is 00:53:40 and we don't have to boo him. If I could have my dream, I know this won't happen if we could take a moment of silence for the death of the slow death that happens here these last four years when what we had to watch. It don't do my heart any good. It's a sad, sad thing, especially when I think about having Reed Shepherd and the way that it ended for him, Borden Bread right here in Kentucky, he deserved a final four, Matt. And Cal could have stuck it to it. He could have stuck it to it, but I'll give it this. He walked away.
Starting point is 00:54:09 He walked away. He knew he had failed. and I don't take no joy or no satisfaction in it. It's a sad, sad situation. It deserves a moment of balance is what it deserves. Well, I appreciate the call. I think that's an interesting way to look at it, Chester. A moment of silence.
Starting point is 00:54:30 I also want a moment of silence for what Reed Shepard did tonight. Did he lose a bet? Is that why he's wearing an Arkansas shirt? So for people we don't know, he walked into the Arkansas. game tonight. The Rockets game. Excuse me, the Arkansas game, or the Rockets game tonight with an Arkansas t-shirt and Kentucky shorts. Oh, thought maybe he lost a bit. I mean, at least to the Kentucky shirt Arkansas shorts. It's almost more prominent Arkansas. Just it looks like there's a pair of blue shorts. There's a
Starting point is 00:55:00 picture of Stacy and Arkansas from gear while back too. So they they've embraced the hog. Wow. Funny how life turns and twists. They were not happy with Cal for a long time. I'm not sure if I would have done that if I was in. You know, I love you, Reid. Does you have a PR person? I mean, the Arkansas people ain't going to all of a sudden be cheering for him. I don't know what I think about that.
Starting point is 00:55:24 All right. Who's next? Johnny Rocker. Johnny Rocker. Go ahead. No, that's Ryan. Ryan, it's your going to go. It's Johnny Rocker.
Starting point is 00:55:32 Sorry. I'm just a little shaken by the Reed Shepard thing. From the John Elder Law Office in Lebanon, Kentucky. It's time for the Johnny Rocker role player of the game. Johnny Rocker's role player, have you been injured? Get small town compassion with big city results when you call the Rocker. There is one guy sits on the Kentucky bench that knows all about John Caliperi. He recruited him.
Starting point is 00:55:51 He wanted to play for him. His dream, his entire high school career was play for Coach Cal at UK, and then he leaves him. Travis Perry, who's going to play tonight without Lamont Butler. He's still going to get a lot of minutes. He's going to have to guard DJ Wagner. Travis Perry will give more than 100 percent. So he is our Johnny Rocker role player of the games. Can I tell you why I like that?
Starting point is 00:56:08 John Calipary was not going to let Travis Perry. see the floor and if he has an impact as a true freshman against DJ Wagner I mean that is poetic for for Travis Perry yeah that that would be now you want to talk about a person who would get some satisfaction if Travis Perry were to hit a couple shots because he would not apply if Cal was no I mean he recruited him because he felt like he had to because he's gonna go to Ole Miss he told him I'm not playing you and did Jack Pilgrim said that on sources say today with a little scoop and Travis I I'm going to make you play me I'm still committing and Cal's like okay but I'm not playing you
Starting point is 00:56:44 that was per jack earlier wow that would make it yeah so watch the watch the Travis period of DJ Wagner matchup stare right at him right it is now time for our Penn Station picks cats in Arkansas one of the most highly anticipated games in UK history Ryan lemon who wins and who's the MVP Kentucky wins 81 to 66 over the hogs and my MVP will be Jackson robinson is going to have to play a lot of point again he seems to to play better, but he's got the ball on his hands a lot. So I go Jackson Robinson. Going with the cats, obviously.
Starting point is 00:57:16 I'll give the Arkansas, I'll give him a cover. I think a dude plays very well, and I think he's going to be a matchup nightmare. But Kentucky still wins, 81.73. My MVP is Kobe Brea because Chin's going to draw up that Jack Golky defense where they try to steal it from him way out behind the three-point line and leaving wide open for a three. So Brea, Golki's, Chin, and Cal again tonight. Well, you took my two MVP's.
Starting point is 00:57:37 I'm going to take Kentucky 79-73. I'll say the MVP is Amari Williams just because I think he can do well on the glass against this group. If he wants to, maybe play a little point guard. And I also think for Kentucky fans, if you're at the game, but if you're at home, take a minute and really enjoy the five to ten minutes before the game and the start. Like this is why we're fans. This is like this will be, we still referenced the Pettino game 20 years ago. This will get referenced by the first.
Starting point is 00:58:11 that replaces me in 20 years. This will be one of the culminating moments of Kentucky basketball history. Enjoy it. Don't just be nervous like I am. Enjoy it. I'm going to go get my car and go so I can experience it as well. Thank you guys very much. Come watch the game here. I'll be here for the post game either way. I hope it's not a depressing one. I hope it's a fun one. Got this. This has been the Kentucky Select Chevy Dealers KSR pregame show. Cats going to play the hogs, the return of cow. Send him home sad. Go Kentucky. This is KSR.
