Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. NFL Cover Zero with Matt Jones and Drew Franklin is a production of the NFL and IHeart podcast. We are five of the six games into the NFL wild card playoffs and cover zero is here. I was talking to Matt Jones, Drew Franklin, I was talking with the guys at the NFL. I say the guys, you know, like Roger and those guys. And I was talking about this podcast and they said, we love that you guys just. start.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Yeah. Like there's no intro. Right to the point. You just go, all right, well, it's week's and I didn't realize I did that. Now I'm self-conscious about it. That was one of the first things they mentioned. They said they liked it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:51 That we did it that way. I didn't expect that to be the feedback. I feel like these are pretty normal intros. Yeah. And also you wonder, though, is that something you say when you don't know what else to say to people? Or they're only listening in the first two minutes. Yes, and they stop.
Starting point is 00:01:03 You're like, do an episode this week? Okay, all right, we're good. Maybe we could just read God with the Wind for 30 minutes in the middle and they wouldn't know. But for four of the five games so far in the wild card playoff, as exciting a round of, exciting four games as you could have and then just finished with the Patriots and Chargers. But for the first four, we'll throw the Patriots and Chargers to the end. How awesome were these games?
Starting point is 00:01:31 It's been a great weekend. We knew this field would be wide open without the usual names we see in the mix. And then even with the big point spreads, like our first game on Saturday, still coming down to the wire. The first four games of the weekend, the team leading with two minutes left ended up losing them. It just shows you the comebacks. I didn't make that connection. At the two-minute warning, the first four games, they ended up losing the game and all of them. So it just shows you how the chaotic finishes we got in every game up until the snoozer we just got to end Sunday night.
Starting point is 00:02:00 The NFL's been on kind of an historic run just in terms of having. It probably coincides directly with the start of this podcast. I mean, like, all these primetime games this year have been ridiculous. I mean, we've talked about two or three of the craziest games I've ever seen. And then, I mean, we might as well go right into it to my Chicago Bears. There you go. The first playoff win in 13 years. And the third game of this Packers Bears trilogy,
Starting point is 00:02:28 all of which have been insanely good games. This one, however, as a Bears fan, It's the best win since the Super Bowl in terms of excitement when you consider the opponent, the comeback, the plays made. I mean, Drew, I can't think of a time that I was more like into, I mean, I was a little kid for the Super Bowl. I was pacing up and down. I threw something at one point. You know, we were connected for my UK basketball postgame show and I was embarrassed for the sounds I was making.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I knew Billy could hear it through the thing. I actually recorded the sound that you made when the Bears won on the final play. No, you did. I did. You want me to pull that? Yeah, we need to hear this. You don't have that. I was in Florida.
Starting point is 00:03:19 I didn't get to hear this. You did not record. Stop it. Now, you're not. All right, here we go. Come on. All right. You're playing this right now?
Starting point is 00:03:33 Yeah, I'm going to play it here now. Recording your access. Yeah. Nice. That's good. I was by myself. That was me. I like, you got it.
Starting point is 00:03:46 That was the last play. What an amazing comeback and win. Happy for you. I mean, everyone in the NFL were treated to a great game, but for Bears fans. I mean, I'm seeing your excitement now and a day later. That atmosphere on Soldier Field, that looked awesome. I'm on my couch thinking I would give any, I don't even care about these two teams. I would give anything to me in Chicago.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Everyone there was just out of their seat, seemed the whole game and having a blast. Nervous in the beginning. but Bears fans wanted that game so bad. I don't know how if you're a Bears owner or a Bears management, how you can see that atmosphere and think you need a dome. Right? Like part of what makes that atmosphere is it's cold. They know how to dress.
Starting point is 00:04:29 They already own the gloves. They know how to do it. I think part of what makes it great. It's night. It's cold. Everybody's like in this thing together. And then, of course, it's the Packers. And there's so many things to talk about from the game.
Starting point is 00:04:43 I'm going to give you like the four things that are most interesting to me. First of all, I think you have to say Caleb Williams, the throw on fourth and eight, where I don't think either one of his feet were on the ground when he threw it. Is that one of the best throws you've ever seen? Yeah, I mean, I think the announcer even said this. I'm still on his point because I thought the same thing. He couldn't have walked out there and put the ball at a better place, handed it to the receiver. Three guys encircling him.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Yeah. Yeah, incredible throw. And in that moment, and Caleb, not just that throw, even when they were just slowly building the comeback and you could see the belief, he kind of had a calm composure. There was a moment where he was yawed and his teammates where he had showed some fire. He did. But that was a guy that didn't look rattled
Starting point is 00:05:26 on that stage, even down the way they were. It's interesting when you look at his day. I did not know until I was in the game that he has the lowest completion percentage of any quarterback in the NFL, but he also has the fewest interceptions. Which means he kind of knows like just how to throw in complete passes.
Starting point is 00:05:42 Going away from the defense. No, but that's right. Like, he avoids the big mistake. And then he makes those massive plays. He was unbelievable. And, you know, I mean, for all the sort of people saying, well, he's kind of, he's a little weird and he's a little quirky and all that. The team still really rallies around him. And those plays, I mean, were unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Then second, the comeback. And how poorly the Packers made. manage the second half of the game. Seven points in missed kicks. And then Matt LaFleur, what is he doing with the clock? How do you get a delay of game out of a timeout? I mean... Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:24 A delay of game on second down throwing it when you need to run clock, which then leads you to have to throw it on third down when it's incomplete again. So you give the bears all that time. They didn't end up needing it, but you didn't know that in the moment. He already had a little reputation for, you know, not knowing what to do with the clock. It goes back. Packers fans are even bringing it up where they were like down eight. years ago and he kicked a field goal
Starting point is 00:06:44 with like two minutes left. Like, what are you doing? On 10-yard line? You know, that was in the past. But, you know, they were already on edge about him anyway in big moments. And he dropped the ball big time today. Well, he had some clock issues in the game that the Bears came back a few weeks ago. He had the same thing. Now, the kicker, Brandon McManas, does he have to move? You got to move. No, he should have already moved.
Starting point is 00:07:04 I mean, I would have walked out of Lambo or, excuse me, out of Soldier Field. Would have gotten on the Chicago flight, my team flight Packers flight get my team confused here. McManus, I would have gone straight to it, Uber, and started a new life somewhere else and forgotten all about being a member of the Green Bay Packers. It would haunt me a little bit if I were the Packers of the little things that could have gone differently
Starting point is 00:07:24 that would have just ended the game. First of all, go back to the field goal at the end of the first half. You know, people forget he missed that one, right? Like that was a huge momentum thing, but it was a little bit of one. Obviously, the extra point would have made him only need a field goal instead of a touchdown. But even there was the one point.
Starting point is 00:07:40 play where it was on the fourth and eight, before that throw, it was fourth and three. And it was a false start. But the snap was over his head. So if they hadn't called the false start, the game would have probably been over. So the false start actually saved the bears there. Like little things like that if I were a Packers fan, Drew, would absolutely haunt me. That and even on the final play of the game, you got one shot. They fumbled the snap and he's like picking that up and scrambling around.
Starting point is 00:08:10 I thought that was going to be like, what a way to lose. There was a moment where it was a little green space. But that was just, it was just error after error, self-inflicted stuff. I think the crowd played a big part, especially in that delay of game. But Packers couldn't have dropped the ball any better. And for the Bears, my goodness, what is that, the seventh? I mean, I lost count. How many comebacks this year?
Starting point is 00:08:32 It's like, just don't even play the first half if you're in Chicago. I saw a social media post that had like the scoreboard and time in like five different games this year and said the Bears won all of these games, you know, where they was like down 10 with two minutes to go, all this stuff, that Bengals game was one of them, both Packers games. It's really been a magical thing. Now, which brings me to the third thing,
Starting point is 00:08:54 you mentioned the crowd. The crowd was unbelievable. How did that guy get a cheese grater in? I actually have that in my notes right in front of here. I have a question. How were so many bears fan? One, one. It seemed like every time there was a crowd shot,
Starting point is 00:09:08 not just the hats. The hats are false. So I understand that one. But they got metal cheese grangers here. I don't understand. And then did you just bring? In different variations of cheese, I saw a cheddar.
Starting point is 00:09:18 I saw a Parmesan. So that means multiple people on their own decided I'm going to take a block of cheese to this game. Multiple people did that. Like just took big hunks of cheese, I guess, in their bag. And we're like, if I get a moment. Pull the shredder out of my side. I'm going to pull the shredder out. And I'm going to bring.
Starting point is 00:09:40 full of this cheese and I'm just going to grate everywhere. Do you know the story of the hats? I love it. A guy was making cheesehead hats for Packers fans. And he got a cease and desist letter from the Packers to stop selling Packers, Pro Packers, Cheesehead, Stoom Fom Hats. So he's like, all right, I'll do cheese graters. And his sales have just been through the roof.
Starting point is 00:10:00 So he just had this little bitty cheesehead company. He's told to stop selling them. And he flips on the Packers and makes some cheese grater. And he can't even keep up with the orders. And there's no. to tell them to stop. I mean, that whole crowd seemed to have them on. The players have them on.
Starting point is 00:10:14 That's right. I mean, that guy took a little Packers cease and desist and turned into America, baby, right? That's right. It's a great idea, too. That is a great idea. But you're right about getting the blades in. I thought we had metal detectors at these events. Well, I mean, they make me, like, I had to throw away a pair of fingernail clippers
Starting point is 00:10:29 once at a Reds game. Now, you might ask, why were you taking fingernail clippers at Reds game? You got to do something between the innings. I mean, take care of your nail. But I had to, like, just hand it over. And, but yet a big cheese grater, no problem. I think I had an electrical version, too. I saw one actually plugged in and he was running through like a big food processor cheese
Starting point is 00:10:49 grader too. Just a stunning development. They were able to get those into Soldier Field. I don't think Billy or Mario would know this reference, but do you remember Abdullah the butcher? Yeah, a wrestler? The wrestler, yeah. You know, he had a forehead where he took a lot of cuts to the forehead.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Like, so, you know, you're not really a wrestling person. But like when you, when somebody bleeds, oftentimes they just take a little tiny razor blade and they cut the area right under their hair line. Okay. Because you bleed more like right here. You bleed more than you bleed anywhere on your body. Without doing any damage. And it doesn't do anything. But Abdul the butcher did not have hair.
Starting point is 00:11:27 So he had cut that so much that it was really gross because it had all these scars. And he was a big fat guy. And so he had all this. So he had a really ugly top of his head. Well, towards the end of his career, when he kind of like, he didn't have a lot of moose left, he would just have the wrestler he was wrestling, use a cheese grater on his head. Really? Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Wow. This is, I mean, this is a family show, so we could talk about it. But I just kept thinking when I saw the cheese grater, I haven't seen a cheese grater used in public like this since Abdul the butcher. And it just shows how much this rivalry's flu. up. You got the confidence to start grating cheese in your section. Just cheese landing everywhere on the people in front of you. But Bears fans are so happy to be in this position.
Starting point is 00:12:14 And I'm happy for you and all the people that saw the field. That really was the best atmosphere of any we saw this weekend. That's one of those games where you would say, like, if you're a Bears fan and you were there, that's when you would talk about like your whole life. Now, the fourth thing is Ben Johnson. When he was hired as the Bears coach, he said in the press conference, I like beating Matt LaFleur. Didn't initially say Green Bay, said Matt LaFleur.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Called him out by name. Called him by name. Said I like beating him twice every year because Detroit had beaten him twice like three the last four years. Now they do it again two out of three times this year. The blowby handshake was a blowby. Great blowby. I mean, one of the all-time blowbys.
Starting point is 00:12:59 And it looked like LaFleur wanted to have a moment. And Ben Johnson was like, oh, no moments coming. I am blowing by. He was even leaning the other direction before he stuck the handout. He had a foot out to the left to go the other way. And then in the locker room, he says, blank the Packers. I bleepin hate the Packers.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Several times. Fair or foul? I'm going to say fair. He just won a big game against the Packers. They got your number. I mean, I wouldn't say it in the press conference, or I wouldn't say it at like an event with fans and kids around. But in that moment,
Starting point is 00:13:32 you would say it to where the whole world. World season? It was a leaked video, right? I think it was a... The Bears put it out. It's linked to be in the Bears media team. I'm cool with it.
Starting point is 00:13:41 I'm cool with it. Yeah, I'm cool with it too. Especially for a rivalry like that and the Bears have had it so bad for so long. Let them have their fun. I think what I like about it is, in pro sports, because guys switch teams so much, it doesn't feel like people
Starting point is 00:13:55 hate each other in pro sports a lot. Like, think about it. 20 years ago, it felt like the Yankees and the Red Sox hate each other. But now they've had a bunch of guys play on both teams. Some legends have gone back and forth. So, like, that's not really a thing anymore.
Starting point is 00:14:12 You know, I mean, we've talked about the Ravens and Steelers. They seem to dislike each other, but then now they've had guys switch teams. Everybody's just jersey swapping. I like that the Bears and the Packers, at least the coaches, may legitimately hate each other. You see that in hockey. It'll happen in hockey. Like the L.A. Kings and the Edmonton Oilers really hate. each other. And there are, and guys in hockey tend to stay on the same team longer.
Starting point is 00:14:37 So, but I like seeing that in the NFL. And I can't think many examples in pro sports, you know, they'll say I hate our rival, but to just call the other coach by name. Like, I enjoy beating him. Specifically, like, I don't want them to ever fire him. I want to just continue to beat him. Now, at the moment of this taping, Matt LaFlor has not been fired yet. They said they're going to meet tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:15:00 They can't bring him back, though, can they? I mean, like, presumably they were going to bring him back, even if he lost. But I think he lost in a way that almost makes you have to fire him, right? And didn't they lose like the last five, I mean, they all several games in the year. So maybe five out of four to five or two to backers. I know the Micah Parsons injury hurts them. That was big for the defense. But, yeah, I mean, you can't.
Starting point is 00:15:22 To be a favorite like that, not even win the division and to go out the way they did to the Bears, blowing a lead. I mean, Jordan Love had three first half touchdowns. It was looking like it was going to be a blowout in that game. They just completely folded by self-inflicted wounds. And it was 27-16 with seven minutes to go. I mean, you've got to find a way to win that game, right? Yeah, I think so.
Starting point is 00:15:42 I mean, they should have won the division. Then you go up into Soldier Field and go up that big. You had so many chances just to hang on, and now you're already at home. And he's, like I said, they've already been complaining about him a little bit anyway for some other mistakes in past playoff games. So it seems it's running out of time there. All right. So the Bears move on.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Another crazy close. when they're going to play the Rams. We'll preview it later in the week. But do you believe the Bears are legit? Or are you just like they're a team of destiny? I lost all my bets this week. Multiple sports. It's truly unbelievable for my gambling account.
Starting point is 00:16:16 But I was big time on the Bears. I really believe in them. And, you know, even when we were making plans about going to the Super Bowl, I'm like, probably going to see your Bears there. I really think that they have the... Do you think they got the mojo? I think they can do it. I want it to be really cold when the Rams come.
Starting point is 00:16:31 you know, because it's going to be in Chicago. Rams are indoor team, L.A. So you want it to be really, really cold, really nasty. We're going to the Super Bowl. We found that out. We'll talk more about that probably later this week, too. We're going to the Super Bowl. And we're supposed to leave right before the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:16:50 It's all right. I like to watch for my couch anyway. It will probably be in the air. On the plane. It will probably be on the plane. But if the Bears make it, I'm going to stay. Even if I have to, like, sleep at the game. because, I mean, you have to if they make it.
Starting point is 00:17:04 The Titans were in position to go a few years ago, and I was like, if they're in that game, whatever it costs, I have to do it. It costs a lot. Ultimate bucket list. I was ready. I went to Kansas City. I was in Nashville when the Bengals came in and ripped our hearts out,
Starting point is 00:17:18 but like when your team is in it, especially when your team is the Bears or the Titans. Who haven't been in it in 40 years. And you don't know if that time will ever come again. Now Chicago looks like that could maybe have something here. But yes, you have to stick around if your team's in it. I think our guy said the ticket was $12,000, Matt. Would you pay that to watch?
Starting point is 00:17:36 I mean, no, but I wouldn't pay $12,000 to go by myself. Well, it's your team. So, like, when would this ever happen again? Well, I mean, it might happen next year. But, I mean, if I had like, if you said to me, you can get two tickets for $12,000. $250,000 off coupon. Yes. promo code
Starting point is 00:18:00 Cover zero 50% off I feel like if you wait until kickoff You can get it for A little cheaper A little cheaper But I would definitely
Starting point is 00:18:08 I would at least want to be in the atmosphere For you know I saw all those pictures from the bars In Chicago Forget about the game Just the bars They looked unbelievable I mean it looks so much fun
Starting point is 00:18:18 I mean I'm genuinely thinking about If they make an NFC championship game Going and watching it in Chicago Even if I don't go to the game Just to be in something like that. I am genuinely thinking about doing that. Yeah, I know a lot of people have done that for other teams. My brother-in-law is
Starting point is 00:18:35 an Eagles fan. Instead of going to the Super Bowl last year, he went to Philly just to be a part of the mayhem, because if you can't be in there in a seat and maybe sometimes it's even better when you go to these cities and you're part of the parties. A lot of times the Super Bowl, it's, well, I don't mean it's an NFL show. You want to go to the Super Bowl. Of course. But it is a very, it can be
Starting point is 00:18:51 a corporate crowd at those games, and especially when it's in San Francisco, a very, you know, Silicon Valley, very sort of, you know, you could make an argument. Chicago might be even wilder than the actual. And that's where most of the fans still are. Even though we travel, when we were at the final four
Starting point is 00:19:07 when Kentucky won the National Championship, New Orleans. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Best sports moment of my life. But at the same time, we would see the videos in Lexington. But there's a part of me that's like, I bet Lexington is so fun, right? I wouldn't trade. But there was a part of me wondering what I was missing with everybody back home. We were in a party city
Starting point is 00:19:23 too. So, yeah, well, it was a great win. You know, probably it is the franchise's best wins since the Super Bowl. And I think part of what you said, Drew, the promise of this might be the start of a long thing. I think that's part. And then what about Cole Loveland, the rookie tied in? They picked him over Tyler Warren. There's a video of the Packers Radio people doing the draft mocking the Bears for picking this guy who then runs all over him. That was my touchdown pick.
Starting point is 00:19:55 can't go wrong with Warren or Loveland. They both had a great year, but he's been fantastic for the Bears. They got a lot of youth. That's why, even with the head coach being first time, that's why it's whatever happens the rest of this playoff run, there's still going to be a lot of excitement in Chicago moving forward. They did lose their left tackle, though, during that game,
Starting point is 00:20:12 which I do think is going to be, we'll have an impact on them in the next round. But if you're going to lose your left tackle, Caleb Williams can move, so that's good. I was also happy for DJ Moore. I saw he hasn't had a winning season since 2014 on any team he's been in. Wow. Been over a decade of playing high-level football and hadn't even had a winning season, not even a winning record. That's amazing.
Starting point is 00:20:46 All right. So then the game before that was Rams and Panthers, another great game. I thought the Panthers acquitted themselves well. But Matthew Stafford looked like an MVP when he had to go down the field and get a two-minute drive for a touchdown. They go and do it. The Rams are my Super Bowl pick. I'm still, I'm hoping we beat them next week, but I'm still holding to that,
Starting point is 00:21:11 and I think you saw that in that game. A stunning score, you know, the spread was 10-and-a-half, 11, even 12 points at one point. I think a lot of people expected to blow out. So kudos to the Panthers. Another great atmosphere. I'm not putting it above Solver field. But another team fired up to be hosting a playoff game.
Starting point is 00:21:28 But at what, you know, Stafford is Stafford. And I saw Devante Adams said, with two minutes left you picked up his helmet and went over to the offense. It was like, well, let's go rip their hearts out. And he was like, the way he said, said it was so gangster. Like it was just the most like stone cold killer, let's go do this, that they had no doubt that they were going to finish the job.
Starting point is 00:21:43 That was, I knew when they had that much time. I'm like, they're winning. But I thought Bryce Young played surprisingly really well. I mean, people have kind of gone back and forth on his, is Bryce Young a real, is he real NFL talented quarterback? And, you know, you can make cases either way. But I think in the biggest moments, he played really, really well. And they weren't the Bears, but they had a lot of comebacks this year, led by him, some big fourth quarter drives to go win games.
Starting point is 00:22:12 So if I'm a Panthers fan, I'm excited about him. He's not, you know, I don't know. He's ever going to be that top tier, you know, MVP caliber quarterback. But he proved to not give up on him and give him a little more time because he was a winner this year, even though it was the NFC. South. Did you see, excuse me, how popular Cam Newton is in Charlotte? I love him, don't they? He's beating the drum. But, like, man, they love him.
Starting point is 00:22:36 him in Charlotte. Is that because, of course, he got him to the Super Bowl. But, I mean, they've had McCaffrey, but he leaves. They've had other good players. They leave go to the teams. You know, he's like, he's like, okay. He's the one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:51 I mean, if you sit there and say, okay, give me the most exciting panther of all time. Jake Delome. Jake Delon. But no. Steve Smith's probably their greatest player. Mushe Mahalo. But let me ask you a question. Do you know for certain what Steve Smith looks like?
Starting point is 00:23:06 I can spot Steve Smith. I don't think I could. I can pick him out on the sidewalk. He's been on TV. Well, not on a channel I'm watching. Is he in the diplomat? I think it was the NFL network. Good show.
Starting point is 00:23:18 I'm enjoying the diplomat. Have you ever seen the diplomat? Yeah, yeah, Netflix. Carrie Russell. All right, so I'm halfway through season three. Don't spoil it. Well, you're ahead of me then, so don't spoil it. Season one, slow.
Starting point is 00:23:29 Like, really slow. So slow, I'm like, I can't believe this got made. But then it picks up towards the end of the season. Then season two is just fire. But it starts to get absurd. But absurd in a way I'm really enjoyed. And then season three, forget it. Like they've just decided, let's just be wacky.
Starting point is 00:23:48 What about Julius Peppers or any other? Oh, no, he's a good one. Yeah. Who is the Panthers all-time top five? Newton, Smith, Peppers. Luke Keckley. Keekley? Is it Keekley?
Starting point is 00:24:00 Sorry. Apologies. That's what you think. And who's the fifth? Thomas Davis. No DeAngelo Williams That's him and Jonathan Stewart
Starting point is 00:24:12 We're doing together That's a good one Kevin Green Boom Kevin Green Yes Former WCW tag team champion That's actually why he came to mine
Starting point is 00:24:24 Was the wrestler came to him out I'm like oh yeah he was a panther Kevin Green Well we've just given our all Panthers list And Carolina Mike Is on the list Well I thought the Panthers acquitted themselves.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Well, then you start today. Bills and Jaguars. What a game. Great game. Josh Allen. I'm not. I've got the bills in the Super Bowl against the Rams. I'm even more confident in it now.
Starting point is 00:24:47 You are not. You give me Josh Allen against another quarterback. I'm taking Josh Allen. He was awesome against today. And it's like a superhuman effort too. He just first half seemed like he was in the tent over and over. I even know how many injuries he had, but it was a different one each trip.
Starting point is 00:25:03 had all the rushing touchdowns, including the one. It was supposed to be a tush push, and then he ends up taking it to the house on like a 20-yard quarterback sneak. He was just doing whatever he wanted after a slow first half. By the way, the Golden Globes just ended. Best Drama. Hamnet. Haven't seen it.
Starting point is 00:25:22 That's the one about the writing of Hamlet. Okay. First I've heard it. You don't know this story? William Shakespeare, you've heard of him. Yep. Bill, he wrote a play Hamlet. Oh, what?
Starting point is 00:25:36 Yes. Yeah, I'm making sure you're following me. Yeah. So he wrote a play Hamlet. But did you know he had a son named Hamlet? Hamlet did or Shakespeare did? Shakespeare. Okay, no.
Starting point is 00:25:48 He had a son named Hamlet who died at the age of 11. Okay. And then three or four years later, he wrote Hamlet. In Gaelic English, Hamlet and Hamlet are the same. Wow. So people believe, although they don't know for sure, that Hamlet was based on his son, Hamnet's death. And so this movie is about Shakespeare writing Hamlet and how his son's death was a big part of why he wrote. They made a movie about the writing of Hamlet. Yes, they did. And it stars the one dude. I don't know. What's his name? It's he's handsome. Paul.
Starting point is 00:26:30 No, not Pedro Pescal. Paul Meskel. He's in Sunburn. You've seen this guy. He's in everything. Anyway, he's in it. All right. Well, you guys are really not up to date, don't it? I didn't know they made movies these days that weren't Marvel or Avatar or something flying around in space. Paul Meskall.
Starting point is 00:26:49 Yeah. Meskel? Anyway. Well, check it out. And then one battle after another, one best comedy. I've seen it. Wait, that's not a comedy. I've seen it too.
Starting point is 00:27:01 Why is it a comedy? I don't know. It won best comedy or musical. It's also not a musical. I downloaded that to watching the plane. It was longer than my flight. Have you seen it? Parts of it.
Starting point is 00:27:09 It's really good, but it's not a comedy. Not at all. You threw me off when you said it won best comedy. How did it win best comedy? I feel like this happens at the Golden Globes almost every year. They continue to call the bear a comedy. It's never been funny. That's the example I knew.
Starting point is 00:27:22 I knew there was a recent one. I'm like, why is this a comedy? But one battle after another is not a comedy in the least. No, not even. a little bit. Huh. How did Nikki Glazer do? She was the host, right?
Starting point is 00:27:34 I was watching football. She had a good joke. I'm trying to remember what it was. Well, I forget. She did have, I thought she, I watched her my longer. I thought it was pretty funny. We'll catch the highlights. She does a good job.
Starting point is 00:27:44 I'm a fan. Big gift for her being the host of that. Yeah. Although she could be any eight. I don't know. I have no idea how she's been around a while. She killed it at that Tom Brady Roast. So she's kind of, that was kind of when she's a good, mean,
Starting point is 00:27:56 comic. Yeah. All right. So what were you talking about? Josh Allen. I know what I was going to say, Haley Stanfield, his wife was, there we go. She was nominated for sinners. But she was nominated.
Starting point is 00:28:10 People wanted her in Jacksonville, supporting her hubby. They wanted to skip the Golden Globes to go to Jacksonville. And go watch Josh run all over Jacksonville. Go get the hot tub, Haley. That's a little like the people that wanted Braxton Berrios to skip the game to go to dancing with the stars. Come on, people got work to do. Big night for the Allen's, though. Yeah, big night.
Starting point is 00:28:28 She didn't win, though. Anyway, Josh Allen was great. He was. Trevor Lawrence played well, but then on the last drive, throws an interception and you see who's better than the other one. Yep, two interceptions. Mark the end. There was a moment in the game.
Starting point is 00:28:43 I was very worried, you know, longtime cover zero listeners know our trip to Buffalo and our good friend Ray Davis. Oh, yeah. I was very worried about Ray Davis's fumble. The first team all NFL. But we had just bragged on Wednesday about how good he was, and I was worried about a cover zero curse developing, but the defense held strong after
Starting point is 00:28:59 I'm going to even further I my ESPN show this morning my ESPN lock of the day was that Ray Davis is going to run a touchdown back on the kickoff and Myron had never even heard of Ray Davis and so of course the moment he fumbled texted me and goes well that was a good pick and Ray looks so crushed they were doing this let's show this guy on the sideline let's see how miserable he is
Starting point is 00:29:23 but now he gets another chance yeah he gets no chance defense bailed him out and up zero points off the turnover He was all right, but in the moment, I was very worried about her boy. What did you think about the reporter after the game who tried to make Liam Cohen feel back? She basically said something like, son, you keep your head up. You move those shoulders back. I'm proud of you. She sounded so sweet.
Starting point is 00:29:49 She sounded like the nicest woman in the world, but she's getting crushed on the internet. If you want a symbol of why our society is falling apart, nicest woman in the world gets crushed for being nice. I wish that I had that woman's number where if I had a bad day, I could just call her and say, well, you talk me through this because she had the sweetest voice and her message to Liam Cohen was so sweet. It was so nice.
Starting point is 00:30:11 And the internet's being so mean. Why are people so mean? Like, okay, technically, is that what a journalist is supposed to do? No. Probably not. I mean, Drew did one time say to Marksie-Workechie, how are you doing? Like, he did do that. But sometimes it's nice.
Starting point is 00:30:29 I was caught up in the moment. Oh, wow. He called him Marksy-Warksy. You know, I'm with you. I hear the complaints that should be media, but it's also, Ari, that was 30 seconds. Did it, we all, it heard anybody, we good? Everybody. I haven't seen her picture.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Let's all move on. I don't know her age. But she feels like she would cook good food at a. a homecoming at a church. Oh, the internet was like, that's anti. Can you imagine how good her casseroles are? And I don't like people being mean to her. There are things that happen in press conferences where you're like, all right,
Starting point is 00:31:04 this is not hard-hitting journalism at the moment, but whatever. Just be nice, though. Like, she's a nice lady. Is she a reporter or did she- I don't know. Jacksonville Press. She writes for a Jacksonville publication. Which one?
Starting point is 00:31:17 Jacksonville Free Press is, I believe, what I remember hearing. But what is that? I don't, I'm not sure. Okay. I don't care. I like her. It didn't hurt anybody. There's a person who's been covering the University of Kentucky Games since I've been doing it, who I don't believe has ever written a story for any entity.
Starting point is 00:31:36 I'm not kidding you. And I'm not trying. It's a wonderful part. But I have never seen any actual outlet to produce anything he's done. But he's nice. front row every time. He always sits on the front row. He has a cookie.
Starting point is 00:31:54 He seems to really like the red chocolate chip cookies when they have them. Why can't everybody have one of those? And if she wants to tell Liam Cohen to keep his head up, what's wrong with that? Play with you. I hope she's okay. I hope she's not taking all this criticism to heart. Imagine hearing that, the message and the voice and thinking, you know what, I'm going to type off a tweet hating on that one. I agree.
Starting point is 00:32:16 And you could tell Liam Cohen was touched. He was. You could actually. to literally see him in a world full of hate. Billy, why can't we be nice? Yeah, I was going to be that guy tonight. You were going to be that guy.
Starting point is 00:32:31 I knew you would because that's you. See, look at her. Found a picture. And Billy's right. It was the Jacksonville. Look how sweet she looks. And, okay, you're Liam Cohen. You're crushed.
Starting point is 00:32:42 You're down. You just lost a home game. Season's over. Nice top. Would you rather a reporter be like, oh, what did you think about the play of the safety's tonight or would you rather get that message? You'd rather get that message.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Now go give your little pessimistic. I'm a journalist. No, no, I'm actually... Here's the thing. You've already got people in the Letterman jackets. The team reporters there that are biased and asking questions and say, talk about this. I mean, journalistic integrity is already dead. So, come on.
Starting point is 00:33:08 Let's just say nice things every once in a while. Look at you. Besides Rick Stroud. He's still the journalist out there. Who's Rick Stroud? The Bucks reporter. Networked with. I was a little.
Starting point is 00:33:20 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I freaked out. Oh, the guy you got really excited about it. He was the only person there before us. Yeah. Well, I'm for it. I'm for it. And I like that lady.
Starting point is 00:33:30 And I hope she bright and Liam Cohen's day. Do you think this is the start of Jacksonville being regularly, like, in this position? Or is Trevor Warren's not good enough? Man, he was awesome the end of the year. I know today with the two interceptions led down. But the last month and a half of the season, he was pretty incredible. And it helps that division. Oh, Houston's defense's league.
Starting point is 00:33:49 but you've got a few built-in wins with my team. I think Jacksonville can still have something moving forward. It's a great first year for Cohen, obviously. And then you have a top pick that barely even played. We still don't know when you're going to get out of him. Is he still on the team, Travis Hunter? Yeah, he was injured all year. But I mean, to have a turn around.
Starting point is 00:34:05 That is true. Like, you don't hear that guy talked about at all? To have a turnaround like that without even using your top draft pick, go from four wins to what they did is a heck of a year. Yeah. Great defensive line. They need a little more star power, a little more punch. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:19 Well, they probably, I don't know. I feel like they're pretty good. I mean, they were great this year, but just, you know, made those two interceptions at the end. Then you get 49ers Eagles. I feel like the Eagles fans were waiting for today all year, just waiting to lose to prove they were correct. Sometimes fan bases can get like that.
Starting point is 00:34:50 They're so mad at their team that they're almost like hoping they will be right that the team is not good. I got that sense today. just I mean the makeup of the year plays out in this game they just don't have enough and then you have a j brown what'd you think of the serion well let's first of all the game 49ers win george kittle gets hurt they lose another person they just find a way to keep winning and same what the 49ers have gone through i mean tonight with kettle but then tange just comes in makes a big catch right after kittle goes down but all year the receiver room has been banged up they've had this for a couple years uh at the end, the linebacker's names escaping me that breaks up the pass. He was signed to the
Starting point is 00:35:31 practice squad in November. Kendricks. Yeah, Kendricks, thank you. They're just throwing people together and now they're on to the second one in the weekend of the playoffs. Incredible job by Shanahan and then Robert Salah. They showed him so much on TV. There's never been a coordinator shown on TV
Starting point is 00:35:47 more than him, but he earned it with how that defense's played. Again, it's handsome privilege. It is true. He gets a handsome bump. He gets handsome. When you have handsome privilege, they will put you on TV. They show Sala all the time. All the time. They showed him more than Shanaan.
Starting point is 00:36:02 I kept thinking that as the game was ending, like a coordinator has never gotten this much attention. They love him, but he's clearly a good court. Maybe not a good coach, although the Jets are worse without him than they were. He's on the Titans' lesson. I wouldn't hate it compared to some of the names. Really?
Starting point is 00:36:16 Yeah, I'd take him. I'd feel like he'd be the perfect Titans coach. I'd take him. He'd go 6 and 11. That's fine. It's an upgrade. Better than some of the names. Brought Purdy, gets it done.
Starting point is 00:36:25 and then but when it comes down to it just don't have enough. Now, AJ Brown. What did you think of the Siriani, AJ Brown? Then AJ refused to talk the media when it was over. Siriani said,
Starting point is 00:36:36 we're like brothers. I kind of don't know if that's true, but what do you think? Yeah, I saw a tweet that he like hugged his teammates and then abruptly just left the locker room. So he'll never play for them again. It does not look like it.
Starting point is 00:36:45 I mean, the bad drop on third down. That was a terrible drop. Like, for a guy who swined all year, that was a major play. And you're an all-pro receiver. You catch that every time. I mean, rookie that's the moment's too big. You're A.J. Brown. That's supposed to be an automatic
Starting point is 00:36:59 catch and you're paid for that to be an automatic catch. Yeah. I will say, though, I'm big on that and shouldn't taking that last week off. You've got dropped routine catches. Heard's... Could have played Green Bay. Hurds missed a throw. He should have had there at the end. It throws it high. You've got your kicker missing kicks. I really don't think it's crazy that week off. Look a little rusty. Some little just fundamental mistakes here and there. Maybe in the half before they took the week off was that horrible half at Buffalo where they played so bad.
Starting point is 00:37:27 I really think there's something to them not figured out in that last week and playing a little more football. I also think you would rather have played Green Bay. Just as a practical matter, you'd rather have played Green Bay than play San Francisco. Yeah, that 49er Seahawks Ram's division was now. All three of those teams. The 49ers Seahawks will play for the third time. Those first two are both good. So now you have another like trilogy that's going to end up playing.
Starting point is 00:37:52 I mean, that is, that's a powerhouse. game and I think they each won on the other's field. For the Seahawks it was their last game. They just played the 49ers because two and around. Darnal walked off the field and said see in two weeks to Purdy, patted him on the chest. Oh, that's right. I forgot about that. And then
Starting point is 00:38:09 Juan Jennings throwed a CMC reverse touchdown throw. It was great. That was a great call. I felt like a lot of times when the people tried to do trickeration, it didn't work this weekend, but it did work on that one, which was a big one. It's just the Eagles office. Just embarrassing stuff. They're at the end.
Starting point is 00:38:25 Hertz, when they have one chance, fourth and nine, when Hertz throws it, it looked like there were six 49ers players in the shot and no Eagles. Like, who are you throwing it into in traffic here? They just, they've looked so unhappy all year. So it almost feels like they got put out of their misery. And it's crazy, Siriani. I don't know if you'd get fired. He just won a Super Bowl. And they were very upset with him right now.
Starting point is 00:38:47 You can't fire. I know you can't fire him, but for a guy that has a ring on his finger that's not even a year old, I mean, they're unhappy with him and how that offense looked this year with so much star. He just seems like the players don't like him. Like when A.J. Brown dropped that pass, he ran down the field to let him know about it. Well, now he claims he ran down the field to tell him to get off so they could punt. Do you agree or disagree with it? Big Dom had to jump in. I don't know if Big Dom would have to jump in.
Starting point is 00:39:11 They had to be yelling at each other all year. But he said, I ran down because he was arguing and he wasn't getting off the field for the punt. Okay. I bet you there were some undertone. By the way, I don't believe him. I'm just telling you what I say. I remember his opening press conference. And now he won a Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:39:26 So I felt like, well, you know, you got to give him credit. Well, their roster that they have is a Super Bowl roster. And to lose at home in the first round after he fizzled out in the regular season is a huge disappointment. And Siriani has the second most wins all time in the first five years of coach in a playoffs. Is that right? So to fire him would be probably crazy. They won't fire. But I didn't think they fire our ball.
Starting point is 00:39:50 And then they did. And then Mike McDaniel, they waited three or four days. to to fire. We talked about that earlier in the year, don't fire him. Then he actually wins some games and finish his strong, and then they do fire.
Starting point is 00:40:02 And then they do fire it. So, which one do you, but by the time we, which one do you think John Harbault is going to get? Which job? By the time we come on again,
Starting point is 00:40:09 he may have one. I know I've seen he's doing his homework, watching clips of all the quarterbacks. If I'm him, I'd go to the Giants and try that. Yeah. What about Baltimore? I mean, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:40:21 I'm talking about a different question. Yeah, maybe they should go back to Baltimore. Sorry. John Harbaal Giants. Of the jobs, though, what's the better job? Baltimore or Giants? If you're like the fans. Lamar doesn't have that much left.
Starting point is 00:40:37 See, that would be my take. I mean, Derek Henry doesn't have left. They have a lot of... My take was you got a lot of more long-term upside with the Giants. And New York. It's the Giants, the tradition. I will say, though, if LaForgia gets fired, the Packers is a pretty good job. Oh, definitely.
Starting point is 00:40:51 That would... Would you put that ahead of the Giants? Maybe because... Love, maybe a little, I mean, Dart's exciting, we still don't truly know what Dart is. Love looks like a quarterback that you can win with. You know Love's good.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Michael Parsons is on your defense. Yeah. I think that would actually be the most. But you are in a division with the Bears and the Lions. Higher expectations. Much higher expectations. The Giants would be happy. They haven't been good in a long time,
Starting point is 00:41:17 so they'd be pretty happy about it. But there you go. I was very surprised the Ravens let him go. That happened after our Wednesday show, like right after. I was shocked by that. I was shocked if they were going to do it. Why didn't you?
Starting point is 00:41:27 I mean, like, what were you waiting? He's been there 20 years. Like, what were you going to learn in two or three days? Like, if he's not going to coach. That was an important kick. Do you think they would have fired Tomlin if he would have made that kick? I mean, to the whole time coaches. That's a really great point, Billy, because that kick had nothing to do with Harbaugh or Tomlin's ability.
Starting point is 00:41:49 But if he makes the kick, Harbaal stays, Tomlin goes. He misses it. Tomlin stays Harbaugh goes. that makes both of those decisions seem so arbitrary because what happened had nothing to do with it, really. You have two really legends where they are. I've been over a decade, and you have a 22-year-old kicker deciding what should happen.
Starting point is 00:42:10 Yeah, well, Patriots Chargers was miserable. I'm going to make a motion. I need a co-sponsor. Okay. Aye. Chargers should not be allowed to play in the playoffs again. At all? No, I mean, Justin, I've watched this game.
Starting point is 00:42:29 I feel like I've watched it 10 times. I don't even know how many times they've made the playoffs, but I feel like I've watched them lose a pitiful performance in the playoffs with Justin Herbert many years. No matter the coach at this point. Yeah, I just, I don't think they should be allowed to be in the playoffs anymore. And this was just a repeat of all the Chargers losses this year. He just got absolutely beat up and killed.
Starting point is 00:42:50 The offensive line, he got killed. Who is blocking for them? They've had a lot of injuries. I mean, Mario got here on time. I assumed he was playing for him. Like, they just, they're awful. I think they ended up with six sacks. He was just getting rocked at every turn, running for his life.
Starting point is 00:43:05 He never stood a chance. Three points pretty disappointing, though, to your point about not letting the chargers in. Yeah. You can do a little better than three. And it didn't really answer my questions about the Patriots either. Because, you know, they dominated on defense, but I don't know. So, you know, they'll get either the Texans or the Steelers. I think what's funny is I think they'll probably win that game
Starting point is 00:43:26 and I still don't know if they're good. Yeah, I mean, to have a team with that record, an MVP candidate and score one touchdown in a game like this, it was disappointing on their end too, but their defense was outstanding. Their defense was outstanding. It was, but that was our payback for four games being good. Really didn't get to hear Chris Collins were moan very much.
Starting point is 00:43:47 He made a few noises. I heard him. He didn't have a very good game, though. So, like, he didn't have a game where he could moan you know. Do you think he was jealous of all the other games? Like, man, I can be moaning so much right now. And here it is.
Starting point is 00:43:58 It's six to three now, too. Yeah, it's six to three at halftime. He's just looking out the window thinking about all the moans he left behind. Couldn't have done. All the moans. Just a cloud over his head. Do you have YouTube TV? I do.
Starting point is 00:44:10 Okay. So I don't know if they've always done this. But now when you, if you're watching YouTube TV and you turn it off, when you come back. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It just leaves you right. you were. It's gotten me many times. It still gets me. I was 20 minutes behind that game tonight. And I was like, man, this show's going to start so late. Is that an option you can turn off? Which game did Pam Oliver have? Was it the Panthers? It was the Panthers on Saturday. Pam Oliver is
Starting point is 00:44:45 talking. It's like the second quarter. And then I realize I'm watching the pregame show. I left the room or changed rooms or something and she says something like, I think so-and-so is going to play today. I'm like, what do you mean? It is seven to three. And it will do it like 24 hours before. Yeah. So like I this morning got up and I turned it on and I'm like, are they showing the replay of Fresno State, UNLV? Was it that good a basketball game? I don't like that feature. We got to get that fixed. I fall forward every time. It throws me on. Twitter and the score is completely different than what I'm watching. Yeah, it throws me off. So, uh, they have, Let's see. Do we have an updated NFL playoff schedule?
Starting point is 00:45:39 So have they released who win everyone's playing here? I don't know if we have when, but we have the matchups, I believe. Well, but I mean, I knew that. They haven't said win yet. I guess it depends on who wins these games coming up. No, here we go. Bill's Broncos, 430 or 8 Saturday, Texans Patriots. That'll be Sunday.
Starting point is 00:46:01 Seahawks 49ers are Saturday. Rams Bears will be a Sunday game. Exciting stuff. So for all of you. Rams Bears. And I'm like Drew, I'm all in on the Bears. Like I hope this is the You hope it happens?
Starting point is 00:46:17 The run to the Super Bowl and we're there for press row and everything. And play the tapes. I was saying this week's before the season. I just believe in that offense and that swag. This is the 40th anniversary of 85. See? So if they make the Super Bowl, you're going to be shuffling?
Starting point is 00:46:31 I want you to think about all that stuff. We're not going to be here to Feathers Ruffle. We're going to, and like they'll recreate it. They'll probably bring those guys back. To dance with Caleb Williams. Yeah, I mean, it would be kind of awesome. If Stevie can't, Jimmy can't do it, I sure can. That's what the backup quarterback's saying in it.
Starting point is 00:46:51 It's going to be great. Maybe the old guys can come back and, like, paint their nails and wear the earrings like Caleb would. Oh, that would be nice. Caleb Williams. It's a little nod to him. Yeah. As he shuffles.
Starting point is 00:47:01 Oh. Will you paint your nails if the bears make the Super Bowl? I mean, I'd do it anyway if someone will do well. Got a recommendation? And you know someone? I could use it. Okay, let's do the touchdowns. We picked touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:47:19 How did we did? Matt, both you and I hit three of our five touchdown picks. Who do we get? I had Pooka Nakua. I also had Parker Washington. That was a big one. A surprise. Christian McCaffrey.
Starting point is 00:47:35 Okay. You had Kyron Williams, Josh Allen, yep. And DeAndre Swift. DeAndre Swift. So we both had three. We were tied at eight in the touchdown game.
Starting point is 00:47:46 Boy, we've done well. I had Cowron Williams. No, you did. I had Karen. I'm positive because I said I don't want any of the receivers from the Rams. I want the running back. I had you as Dowdell. No, that was Matt.
Starting point is 00:47:56 No. Positive. I had God. I'm positive. I'm positive. I'm positive. I'm positive. I'm sure.
Starting point is 00:48:02 I know exactly what I said. First of all, there's no record of this. Matt said I've got Rico and Nico, remember? No, I said I have Rico and Kyron. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I had Kyron Williams. No, I said I have Nico. Because Rico didn't play.
Starting point is 00:48:15 And Kyra. Chuba Hubbard played over Rico. Which allows me to get Kyron. I had Kyron Williams a thousand percent. Who did it? I'm very organized. I have it as Kyron Williams. I had Kyron Williams.
Starting point is 00:48:28 We will review the tape. There's no tape. Matt, do you remember, do you remember Matt? I don't remember any of this. He said, why did I write down? Rico twice. Do you remember this conversation? No, I said, why did I write down Pyron and Siren and Kyron? I did not do well, but I had Kyron Williams. He might have been my only one. Did he get one? Drew, you were
Starting point is 00:48:45 O for five. Exactly. No, I had, this is, this is, this is, he was over five. It sounds like to me he was over five. I specifically said I do not want any of the Rams, Puka. I don't want them, fight of the receivers. Give me Kyron Williams. I have a distinct memory. Now I'm worried about the whole season. Maybe I'm still in the survival. league. Who do we have for the game coming up, though? So Houston Pitt.
Starting point is 00:49:11 I have... Pit. Is that what you call Steelers Pit? Yeah. Okay. I've never heard him call Pitt. I have D.K. Matt, you have... Howard Williams.
Starting point is 00:49:25 He has Nico Collins. I have D.K. Matt Caff. No, I have D.K. Matt Caff. Drew, I actually don't have written down with you. Billy, what did you write down? No, wait, I think I might have taken a running back in this one. See, it's the only selection I don't have. He's claiming.
Starting point is 00:49:42 I'm going to pull up our podcast on my phone employee. He's claiming lies. He's claiming now he has D.K. MacG. You already proved. You didn't write down anything for me. So I'm already questioning you. Who do you have as me having in this thing? I had one of the Steelers running back. I had Nico Collins for you in this game.
Starting point is 00:49:55 I did have Nico Collins. Because I tried to take Collins and you're like, I just took them. That's right. And I went Warren or Gainwell, but I can't remember which one I picked. Final answer. I want you have both of them. of them. It doesn't matter because you didn't have unbelievable. I can't trust this game anymore.
Starting point is 00:50:08 Who do you think is going to win to Bardi? Steelers. I'm doing it. Yeah, I think so. I know the Texans defense is elite, but I'm going to believe in Aaron Rogers in the playoffs. One more game. It's also just in Pittsburgh. It's Monday night. You know, they're all going to be like, they got all that steel.
Starting point is 00:50:26 And they're going to get off work, have a brew, and then they're going to go, and I think they're going to win. I'm worried, though. Billy will say I pick the Texans when we come back on Wednesday. They will matter. so far behind. Wow.
Starting point is 00:50:37 How do we know? How do we even know? What can be trusted? Stop the count. Hopefully it's a better game than how we finish tonight. Let's get another classic. Who you got, Billy, on this one? Who are you picking to win?
