NFL Cover Zero with Matt Jones and Drew Franklin is a production of the NFL and IHeart
podcast.
Welcome everybody.
It is week four of NFL cover zero, Matt Jones, Drew Franklin, and Billy R. Sports after
somewhat exciting, I actually, I will say an exciting week four, especially in the
first window, you had a situation where at 1.4 games were coming down to the end and
having key plays all at once, which I think was a really good red zone situation.
A lot of teams sort of separated themselves today.
Drew, I thought a good Sunday of action, except for your team, which is the worst.
Yeah, we don't even have to add my team to the conversation anymore.
But there were a few games that I think we could be talking about having an impact when we look at the standings at the end of the year.
A couple big AFC games and in the NFC.
Yeah.
So we used to try to start with what we think.
think was the best game. I guess I'm going to go with the Chiefs and the Raiders to start just
because, you know, those were both undefeated teams. And I thought it was the game that probably
if you wanted to, you could have really positive takeaway, regardless of whether you were,
regardless of who you were rooting for, right? Like, I thought it was, let's start with the Chiefs.
They are now 4-0 after missing the playoffs. Four and O, four-and-o,
has like an insane percentage of making the playoffs if you start four and oh only three teams doing it
this this year and again it felt like all those games during the chief's great run i don't think
the chiefs played great they were behind a lot of it but there was just never a moment where you
didn't think that they would get the drive that they needed and then they did methodically down
the field and then kenneth walker junior it's just you sit there and you watch that and you go how did
to let him go. I mean, I get why they let him go, but he is, he is, I'm not going to say he's
better than Mahomes, but maybe this year he is. He is an absolute beast, and the Chiefs get a big
win. And I now think you can make an argument they're the best team in the NFL, if not the
second or third, but it's, I enjoy watching the Chiefs be back, Drew. I think the league's
better when they're good. Yeah, 24th quarter points to just rip the Raiders' hearts out when they
played so well and Kenneth Walker
is the story. I know
Mahomes is looking pretty good this year. Kelsey
found some youth, but Kenneth Walker
has been a monster and he's carrying that team
right now. His stats have just been unbelievable
every week. I don't know if he
can do this for an entire season
with what they're putting on him right now, but he's
been an amazing start and he's the reason that they're
4 and 0. Yeah, I mean,
they are
I mean, they're fun to
watch and they're
And they did exactly what they needed.
And on the other side, I feel like the Raiders, I mean, if you're a Raiders fan,
you've got to be pretty happy.
Now, their schedule gets a lot harder here starting now.
But they were in that game the whole time.
Cousins played pretty well.
I mean, if you were a Raiders fan, wouldn't you, I mean, you want to win, but you
come out of that still feeling good, right?
Yeah.
They got to be in a weird spot.
You know, before the year, we were like, okay, cousins will start the season.
but at what point have they lost so much, you just say, what do we have with Mendoza?
We didn't expect anything like this.
So now they're like, all right, leave Mendoza sitting there.
Maybe Kirk Cousins can lead us to something because three and one with that roster they had.
I don't think many people saw this coming.
Yeah.
Billy, were you, I can't remember.
Are you a Chiefs hater?
No, no, I don't mind Mahomes and the Chiefs.
I did hate that Tyquan Thornton injury.
That's a big injury for them.
And they didn't show the replay.
I was in a spot where I couldn't rewind myself.
I was a little mad that didn't show it.
But then I saw it online and then I understood why it was mad they didn't show it.
Well, like, he was hurt on the ground.
I didn't know what happened.
You want to see brutal injuries?
I didn't know it was that brutal.
They didn't show it.
I found it online later, but I was-
And was it brutal?
It was bad, yeah.
Okay, so that's maybe why they didn't show it.
Well, like, I needed to know.
Like, I didn't know what had happened.
So they just decided.
So you'd think if it's a really brutal injury?
They have like a responsibility to show it.
Well, I don't know if that's the right word.
Responsibility, but that is what happened.
What's the word?
Duty.
I don't know.
Duty.
Okay.
They have a duty.
I just wanted to see what happened.
I just didn't think of you, Billy, as the guy who, like, set.
Do you just want to sit and watch people get injured?
No, no.
Like the old faces of death videos when we were in college.
He was a Red Zone channel where they just go to the injuries.
I didn't realize you were like this sick.
Well, I still think of the Kevin Ware one.
I mean, I saw a replay of that back in the day.
Were you looking for these replays?
Like, are you just searching Injury.com?
No, but I need to know what happens.
As somebody that follows the league, I needed to see the injury.
Well, I didn't feel the, I still haven't seen it.
Don't.
But was it his knee?
His ankle.
His ankles.
There are two types of people here, and I know both.
Some people, when things like this happened, they want to rewind it and they want to stare at it.
And there are others like me who's like, yeah, I don't need to see that.
You're telling me it's bad.
I'll take your word for it.
I don't need a visual.
You say it was ugly.
I'm good.
Let's just move on.
I don't need a replay.
Yeah, I'm like that.
So, I mean, there have been various things that have happened that I have intentionally not wanted to see.
But you felt like you couldn't fully process the Thornton injury.
I wanted to see it.
Unless you got to see it.
Yes, I wanted to see it.
He wanted a confirmation.
All this fake news out there, he wanted to see for himself that there was an injury.
Okay, so now you believe it.
Yes.
All right.
All right.
Just interesting.
I didn't think about this from you, Billy.
I didn't think you were devious like this.
As for Thornton, you know, that's a big loss, Drew, for them going forward.
I still feel like if there's ever a position that Patrick Mahomes can make do,
on, it is wide receiver.
And it might be what leads Tyree Kill to become a chief again, right?
Oh, I haven't even considered that angle.
But yeah, he's still.
Apparently, his agent says he's talking with teams and may have a decision this week.
Okay.
Well, wouldn't that be interesting to see him in that uniform again?
Yeah, they still have plenty of pieces.
Obviously, it's a big hit, but I don't think it will change the win-loss column moving
forward for the chiefs at all.
They still have plenty of weapons that he can go to.
you believe in in the Raiders?
Like, are they a playoff team?
They were in this game the entire time.
I mean, if you believe in the Chiefs, I mean, they were right there with them.
No, I believe they were at the 50-yard line.
I mean, they needed one more completion to have a shot at a field goal.
Yeah, I mean, they were winning going into the fourth quarter against the Chiefs.
I believe they're good, but looking at the playoff picture, those AFC wild card spots can be hard to grab.
And I see them coming up just short.
Well, can I read you five of their next six guys?
games?
Yeah, they should have the easier ones, but go ahead.
They don't.
Oh, they don't.
Patriots, Bills, Rams, 49ers, Seahawks.
See, that Patriots game, if they're going to make the playoffs,
that's a team that's going to be fighting for one of the wildcard spots.
They got to win that.
Yeah, they play in New England.
That's a big game.
But, you know, I mean, you sit there and look at that, like, that's a tough ride.
I think if you came out of that, if you could find a way to win two of those,
you'd celebrate.
Because then it gets a lot easier after that.
Then you play like the Browns, the Chargers, the Titans, the Cardinals.
So, yeah, two out of those five, you'd probably be pretty happy.
All right.
NFL.com gives them a 43% chance at this moment.
It feels high.
I agree that it feels high.
Looking at that schedule, that actually feels a little bit high.
All right, let's go back to Thursday night.
Steelers and the Browns.
What a win for Cleveland.
You know, people don't like to say anything positive about Deshaun Watson for obvious reasons.
Like, nothing at all, ever.
But at the same time, he played well, didn't he?
He did, and he's kind of played well all year.
I also have this awkward, what do we do with Deshawn Watson?
Heck, he's on my fantasy team, and I don't even like him.
But, I mean, he and the Browns look good.
I'm not saying they're a playoff team, but the team we've laughed at for decades,
they are much better than that.
That defense is looking good.
And to win a division game like this against the Steelers,
you've got to pat them on the back.
It's not what anyone saw at this point.
I mean, I think they look really good, to be honest with you.
I think they, you know, they, you know,
they've got the good, good young receivers.
Their defense, I'm not going to say it doesn't look like it's missed a step,
but Jared Verst, if he can stay on sides, that dude goes off sides more than anyone.
And he looks surprised every single time Aaron.
Every time Aaron Rogers hard snapped him or hard counted him, he'd be like,
oh, got me again.
But besides that, I mean, they're good.
Are they at all lovable?
No.
I think the quarterback makes it hard to love them.
But on paper, it's an underdog story, right?
Like, they're not, they haven't been good.
They're in a city that always gets disrespected.
Shouldn't they be like the lovable losers?
Yeah, I mean, you look at the dog pound and you're like, oh, look, they're so happy.
I'm happy to finally see the dog pound smiling.
Personally, you know, my guy, Harold Fana Jr. is having a great year.
Yeah, when you get to the quarterback position, it's like, oh, that guy's just so hard to be happy for.
So you wouldn't call the Browns lovable.
one person ruins the whole thing for you.
I think so.
Really?
Yeah, I'm with Drew.
I can't root for him, even though that's three straight fourth quarter
comebacks for Deshaun now.
I mean, that's in and of itself.
I'm going to say, I root for him.
Not because of Deshaun, despite him,
but the Browns fans deserve happiness.
Don't people deserve happiness in life?
Especially Cleveland.
They got the Guardians winning games in baseball.
baseball. They don't know what to do with the Browns right now being three and one.
Yeah. I mean, they haven't had happiness since Drew Carey. And here they are.
They thought they were getting LeBron this summer and they didn't.
They did. They did. I'm happy for the Browns. And as for the Steelers, I root against everything Aaron Rogers does.
And he no one whines more when a play goes badly.
Is there a chance the Browns are the best team in that division right now?
Well, do we know how much Lamar's out?
Yeah. MRI today. No news yet.
Okay. Well, that's it. I mean, it's plausible.
What about him and Mike McCarthy fighting?
Did you...
The most predictable thing ever. I don't understand why they were excited about their reunion.
Like, we all forgot...
They didn't like each other.
Yeah, they had a bad breakup and green bag.
It's like that couple. They were like, this time it's going to work.
I believe it. Like, this time.
and it didn't work before.
Sunday morning, the Colts played the commanders.
I woke up, turned it on.
It was great because it helped me drift in and out of sleep.
I looked up, I didn't see Mario to get hurt,
and then there was a guy playing quarterback that had so many letters in his name.
Athon-C-A-M-A-N-A-H-A-N-A-A-T-A-A-N-A-A-K-A-A-A-K-A-A-K-A-A-K-A-A-A-K-A-A-M-A-A-K-A-A-K-A-A-M-A-A-K-A-A-M-A-K-A-A-S.
The proud of Rutgers.
Seventh round pick from Rutgers.
Okay.
And he did a spin move?
He sure did.
It was great.
A little early.
The thing about the spin move is that there wasn't anyone around him trying to make a tackle.
He's just running straight forward inside.
I'm going to do a little spin.
I need to see this.
He hits the spin about four or five yards too early.
All right, spin, here we go.
I'm watching it live.
He comes in the pocket.
He goes.
Oh, I like it.
He spins.
He spin right.
into the tackle. It's like he hit the wrong
button when you're playing a video game. Like he accidentally
hit the spin when he... Yeah, I'm sitting there looking.
He spins six yards away from
the defender.
He's at the 40 and the defender's
at the 46 and he spins.
He completes the spin just in time
to be forward facing the defender staring at him.
All right,
I really like this guy.
Aidan Calla Manacchus. Out there just making
moves. Close enough, yeah.
Is it not Cala Kamenakis? I mean, I'm not.
entirely sure either. Kalamakas?
Kaliikmanis?
Definitely not that last one, but we're getting there.
Well, but I mean, that's how it's spelled.
K-A-L-I-K-M-A-N-I-S.
Cala-Comanus.
It was a tough day for the commanders.
Mario da led the team in rushing, and he only ran one time.
So, I mean, it's been doing it.
Wow.
Is that the stat of the day?
That's a great stat.
Well.
So is Galapinakis the new quarterback?
He's between two ferns.
We're still waiting on Daniels.
He wasn't put on the IR, so they expect him to come back within four weeks.
But for now, it's this guy.
Well, I like this guy.
And I'm going to start just spinning in my regular life.
Just walk down the street, give somebody a spin move.
Another former titan got a touchdown this game, just for me.
Who is that?
Treylon Burks, we drafted him to replace A.J. Brown.
has more touchdowns this season with the commanders than he did in three seasons with the Titans.
Wow.
That's tough.
First round pick.
Jets and Bears.
So I went yesterday to a Chicago Bears bar to watch this game.
I don't know if you saw the beginning.
So the bear, so this bar is all Bears fans.
Packed.
It was great environment.
Like Bears fans everywhere.
Everything you would eat it, it was like Chicago Burger.
You know, which I don't know what that.
means. But then it would be like
Chytown hot dog.
Everything was called Chicago
something. You know,
Chicago iced tea.
And when they score,
they play the Bears fight song.
Bear down,
Chicago Bears. All right, so
first time the Bears drove to score, I don't know if you saw
this, it looked like they scored,
and they played the song.
Bear Down.
And then they went
in a review and they said he was short.
Okay? Go to
Second down.
Score.
Bear down.
Chicago Bears.
Sent it to review.
Once again.
Reverse it.
Now it's fourth down.
Fourth and one.
Watching in real time,
Billy, I was certain that he had not gotten in.
But I don't know who was working the music.
Because I think he thought they did go in.
Played again.
Played it again.
and we were stopped.
They played the fight song, Drew, three times during the first drive and came away with zero points.
I'm going to say that has to be a record in sports history.
You all were having a surprise party and random people just kept walking in.
You were doing the surprise, wasting them over and over.
What you did, though, I know that's your team, but I like when I'm in another city, specifically in New York where you can find them, going to a team-specific bar where they have all the themes and watch.
in a game there. That's the way to do it when you're out of town, even if you all did waste all
your bear downs early there. It's a fun experience. Because I don't live in Chicago. I never get to
be around other Bears fans, right? So it was a lot of fun. I ended up at a table with two 22-year-old
guys who just graduated from Syracuse and a couple in their 50s. And we all just, we became
really good friends. By the end, when I left, Drew, I hugged them goodbye.
same time next week.
I just met these people.
And I gave this woman a hug and I was like,
this was a wonderful experience.
Now you're in a Bears group chat with them and you're talking about going to the Bucks
game together.
It was a lot of fun.
We should do that more.
There should be community seating at that sporting event watches a lot more.
And as far as the game, Bears won.
So that's good.
The Bears.
Tyler Bage.
Three different quarterbacks have won a game already.
And you've done it.
You've been flashy.
This one was kind of just run the ball.
Meen potatoes.
The Bears had more first downs than the Jets had total plays on offense.
That is an amazing stat.
34 to 32.
I will say, did you see the Big Jets moment?
Yes.
They got an interception for the first time in 600-something days.
20 straight games.
I'm glad you said that.
There was a guy in the bar wearing Jets jersey.
And when they got that interception, he stood up and started pumping his fist.
I was like, hey, that's the first one in a long time.
It was 21 straight weeks, and I bet us to get one every week.
Well, just like your bear down, did you see they thought they had one?
They got reviewed and taken away.
So there was a celebration for the first interception.
The announcer said it.
All the tweets came, and they took the interception away and had to go find another one.
Well, this guy finally got to cash his bet after 21 straight losing bets.
He finally won.
Giants beat the Cardinals, 36, 24.
James Winston said I'm starting to find my inner Jamesus experience.
What do you think of that?
I was happy for James just as the character.
I did not think the Giants were capable of scoring that many points once DART went out.
Really, for me, the bigger disappointment was Love and the Cardinals.
He had some weird comments after the game, too.
I don't know if you have those.
What do you say?
Diled up exactly, Billy.
I can pull it up.
Something about this is going to be a long year or?
This is going to be the longest year of my life
I think he said after the game
That's what he said
Yeah after the game
He said this is probably going to be the longest year of my life
True
So on that end
Your star running back rookie you're excited about
Didn't have a good game and he seems to be in a dark place
And he's up
I mean the season's not over
They're one and three
And they've been pretty competitive in a lot of these games
Yeah
I mean Jacoby percent
Although you can't let it
You can't let
at James, you can't let him score 36 points, you know?
I mean, Arizona was up 14 to 3 at one point in this game.
It ended on a pick six, so it's a little skewed there.
But did you see Trey McBride and the ref go at each other in this game?
That was bad.
Again, we don't know what McBride said to the ref.
But with that said, I feel like the ref can't ever do that, right?
No, he was passionate.
That wasn't just like a little simple bleep.
I mean, he was really giving it to him.
There was a reporter who tweeted, and I don't have her name, but I saw it.
She said she was standing there, and she kind of backed McBride.
He really didn't see.
He said, please out loud.
Said you're ruining the game was the other one that she said, that he said.
You're ruining the game.
Who hadn't told a ref that they're ruining the game?
That's one of the go-to lines.
Yeah, I agree.
That and like in a basketball game, call it both ways.
I like what old men yell at refs.
you know, and like
hold up their glasses and go
do you need these?
I mean, there's some good like old school
ref things. What else is it?
Call it both ways.
Yeah, there's one that's not family friendly.
I won't say on the podcast, but I'll admit I've yelled at your
ref a few times.

Houston has now lost four games that have been a one possession game in the two-minute mark.
That's amazing.
They're 0 and four.
Big win for the Cowboys.
C.D. Lamb had like one of the great receiving days of all time.
I mean, he was on my fan.
I think he had 42 fantasy point.
17 for 189 and a touchdown.
I mean, that's crazy.
17 for 189.
Cowboys get a big win.
Yeah, he had 41.3.
fantasy points.
And that was a big win for the Cowboys,
gets them back to 2 and 2.
And then for the Texans,
they got to be the best 0-and-4 team in history, right?
Yeah, I completely agree with their own 4.
I still think they're good,
but they will also be sitting on the couch where I'll be when the playoffs
start so they can tell whoever's hanging out of their home with them.
C.J. Strowd actually played pretty well.
And he said, C.J. Stroud said,
I got to be like the iPhone, get a better model every year.
That's bad.
I'm not even really sure what he's trying to tell us there.
He's trying to say that a new iPhone comes out every year with more advanced skills
than he needs to be like that,
but that he didn't know that he's doing it right now.
I think I'm out on the Texans the rest of the year after that.
You don't like that line?
No.
He didn't get any help from his running back.
I thought David Montgomery was a good pick up there.
He didn't do anything yesterday.
He did Woody Marks.
And then I know it's Dallas, but that defense's giving up 34 points.
This wasn't all on Stroud on this one.
Huge win for the Cowboys, though.
Huge win for the Cowboys.
Huge win.
And Dack played well again.
Dax had a great year kind of quietly, even though they're two and two.
Packers beat your buck, 1714.
I did not watch one minute of this game, Billy.
So tell me what happened.
Did you bet the Jalen Daniels rushing touchdown bet?
Did it make it?
No, it didn't.
But I was, it almost did.
Yeah, he got tackled on the one.
He was tackled on the one.
I was getting ready to text you guys, but no, no shot.
He's definitely getting one this.
year. Packers needed that win to keep
the Fleur's job. I agree with
you on that. I think I
got mine. Derek Henry scored, didn't he?
I think he scored right at the very first of the game.
Yeah, he does. He did. And then, who did
Drew have? Did I have Josh Allen
or did I go overseer? I don't remember. I did quarterback,
so I actually don't have that in front of me,
so I'll have to tally that up on the
other show this week. So you didn't
keep track of it? No, I did. I'm just
in Louisville, so I don't have it.
Okay. All right.
I want to say I had Jamar Chase who did not score.
But I'm not positive.
I heard, I believe.
Yeah.
I curse him.
Did you, so anything come from the game, Billy?
I mean, I literally didn't see one second.
No.
I mean, in Green Bay had many chances to put this game away, and they just couldn't.
They fumbled on the one-yard line, wasted a bunch of opportunities.
Tampa is just a mess.
I mean, Todd Bowles is a defensive coach, and they've been egregiously bad.
So it's the beginning of the end.
There's no doubt about it.
Yeah.
The Packers, you know,
know, they're already beating up with injuries and missing guys.
They're linebacker Cooper, Torres Achilles.
He's been pretty good this year.
So just one more thing for them to have to overcome.
Do you have any hope that this Daniels could be your quarterback in the future?
I actually like him a lot.
I do.
Unfortunately, we just paid Baker Mayfield $100-something million.
So I feel like we're wedded to him.
But if you'd like to stick around, he's got a shot because I think he could grow.
So you don't think he'll ever be a Maker play field anymore?
No, no.
I think that's probably why he's behind him.
Honestly.
All right.
Jacksonville wins in Cincinnati, 22 to 17.
It's kind of a disappointing game.
I say it was there for the taking for Cincinnati,
even after Jamar Chase got hurt.
But I think you can say, like, Burrow doesn't seem Burrow-like.
Like, he had chances to make plays and just wouldn't and odd decisions.
And I don't think Jacksonville even particularly played all that well.
But Cincinnati just felt like they were stuck in mud.
it all day. It did not look like the
Bengals offense we've grown accustomed to.
Now, Burrow threw
it almost 60 times and still only had
one touchdown. I know he lost Chase
and I think Higgins even got banged up there
at the end. But they've been disappointing
and part of it is the expectation the Burrough
set when he said, I feel like this is our 2019
LSU. This is our year where we got
everything, watch out. And then they
have kind of, the record's
fine, I guess, but they've not
meeting the bar that he and many others
set in the preseason. Yeah, I
I thought it was a very disappointing performance.
And this is a swing game because these are two teams that I think probably see themselves is about the same.
The AFC, to me, is wide open.
And, you know, this could be a game that when you get to the end of the year, at least for the Bengals, you say, okay, they missed the playoffs by one game.
You might look at this one loss at home as what does it.
The Rams beat the Eagles 24 to 20.
Jalen Hertz, not a great day.
but I actually thought the Rams were also not kind of clicking 100%.
Still were able to make plays when they needed to.
And then it kind of got close at the end.
The Rams were up two scores, but the Eagles got the ball back.
Yet the Rams were able to hang on.
I'm still all in on the Rams.
I still would make them my favorite for the Super Bowl,
even though they're two and two.
This was a big win for them, though, to get this through on the road.
It was.
And remember last week this is our game where we pre-recorded our
hot takes and I think we were all talking
about the Rams winning
this game. Do you remember what you said? I remember
that I said if the Eagles don't
score some points, get Siriani
out of there, their offense.
You did.
I think I said, I mean,
I had 20. I didn't see.
I actually think my hot take was exactly
what I just said. I just didn't say it with as
much force and personality,
which is they are still a Super Bowl
contender. They go on the road, show they're
gritty and their two losses
were in
unique circumstances both times.
Mine was Puka is the best receiver in the league.
He played great, nine for 125.
Yeah, Kyron Williams had a big game for the Rams.
That was kind of, I think, the story is he had two touchdowns, I think, in the last few minutes.
And the Rams, I flipped that.
The Rams actually rallied.
I think I said that they held them off.
They scored twice in the last four minutes.
The Eagles had a chance to put them away and just,
we're not able to get a first down.
And once that happened, the end result was obvious once you give the ball back to the Rams.
Sequin hurt, too.
Yeah, Sequin hurt.
He's now – there's two games this year.
How serious is that?
Testing today, so not sure.
But hamstrings are –
A lot of injuries, by the way.
I mean, you had Chase, Higgins, Barclay, Lamar.
Who else?
I think, Thornton.
I mean, Billy knows.
Billy sits home and just watches them all night.
Yeah, Mariota.
What was your favorite injury yesterday?
He was big on the Ladd-McConkey foot injury.
Oh, Ladd was terrible.
I got zero from him.
He went out with the foot.
You're right.
What I mean you got zero from him?
He's on my fantasy team.
I've heard a lot of your fantasy team.
Well, fair enough.
You need to hear about my fantasy team a little bit.
Fair enough.
He should be ashamed of himself for not giving you any points.
In a game that kind of, I don't know if it saved the season,
but maybe save Drake May's slide, the Patriots beat the bills on the road.
This is the third straight year
the Patriots have won in Buffalo.
Why do you think that keeps happening?
I mean, Buffalo looked like an absolute wagon.
And if they win this game,
they would have been three games up on New England
and all but had the division like clinched.
And instead, Drake May kind of goes back to what he was last year.
And even though he had a couple turnovers,
made big plays down the stretch and got the win.
Even though they were in the Super Bowl earlier this year,
This was my most biggest surprise this weekend because you scored six points at Jacksonville last week.
I completely wrote you off at Buffalo, which I think is number one in the power rankings.
And then you go and beat Buffalo at Buffalo.
So I was completely surprised by this.
I thought the Patriots were, I mean, they still could moving forward to have a down year.
But I did not have them having a chance in this one whatsoever.
But they had a big moment.
Buffalo was up 26, 21.
You get New England gets the ball.
And, you know, a great quarterback goes down there and scores on a game-winning drive.
And that's what he did.
And I think a lot of this year he's not looked like that guy, Billy, but he did.
It was like he included about 40-yard pass.
His touchdown pass was great to Keon Coleman.
He had a big third-down conversion where he rolled out to.
Yeah, a huge third-down conversion where he kind of lobbed a pass to a guy.
and that was really like I'm hard on Drake May, but I thought Billy he looked like the Drake May people thought.
Yeah, he had two turnovers, but he did also have three touchdown passes.
That laughed one to Efton Chisholm, undrafted from, I believe, Eastern Washington.
His name is Effin.
Chisholm.
Had probably the catch of the year to win that game.
It was like one-handed, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, bad interception by Josh Allen in this game, which is,
It looked like a young Josh Allen where he kind of throws a silly one.
But big win in the AFC East.
And I think the storyline is, hey, maybe Drake May isn't quite as a disaster as he looked early.
I didn't watch any of the Ravens and Titans, but Lamar went out.
I mean, the key is going to be what his injury is.
Derek Henry did exactly what you thought and run all over the Titans.
Any report from the game that would matter to those of us who try to not watch the Titans play?
Well, first off, let's just a round of applause with Tennessee Titans for covering a spread.
We haven't even done that in a long time.
So we did cover the 11 and a half.
Cam Ward didn't look that bad.
He's a big talking point today because of, did you see the post game where he went to the podium?
He goes to the podium and the media is not there yet.
And people in the media explain, like you go to the locker room and then you come back for Ward and you're on the road in Baltimore.
So it was unique.
But he was like he's caught on camera saying he's going to leave.
where are they?
He's like, I'm threatening to walk out.
It's just, it's some attitude issues that he's had since he's been there that
has just added to concerns with him.
I mean, he threatened to leave, like, hey, media, I'm going to leave you.
Well, he got to the press conference first, which seems odd, but they had like an open locker
room, and it's a road gamer in Baltimore, so the reporters didn't have time to get there yet.
And they're like, they're on their way.
Let's give them a minute.
And he says, no, I'm like, I'm going to walk out.
Where are they?
just a bad attitude for a guy that should be leading a franchise.
You wouldn't see that out of my homes or someone else.
And it's just something else for him where people are questioning if he's built to be the guy.
Yeah.
Well, it was kind of a mucky game.
They gave the ball to Henry a lot.
And he wasn't really – you guys did an okay job on him.
But you could tell he wanted the ball quite a bit.
I think he ran it like 25 times or something in the game.
Yes, good to see him.
If Ward loses this upcoming week,
he will have the worst record in the history of the NFL
for starting quarterback through whatever amount of games.
That'll be 22 or 23, I think.
Really?
Worst than Jamarcus Russell.
There's a chance.
If he doesn't turn it around, he could be in the bus conversation
for one of the biggest ever, just off record and things like, a few of the stats.
So you've given up?
I was never in to give up.
Oh, you're never in.
I mean, you hear how I talk about this team.
He doesn't like them.

Vikings winning 15 to 10, but what is surprising, Drew, as the Vikings are 4'0.
That's very surprising.
This game was 15 to 10.
It needed to be 50.
That feels like a game that should be 15 to 10.
Yeah.
As much as I think the Titans stink, the dolphins are right there with them.
I mean, they are terrible.
So the Vikings were blessed to have a.
free win here to help him get to four and oh but the story is how Miami can't tie their shoes
Miami's all terrible but it is interesting to think about if the Vikings are good like I don't know
if they're good or not I mean they they continue to win um they got a lot of kicks in this game
but uh in Hawkinson um you know played well to get the victory had 13 receptions I believe which is
he was targeted 13 times and had 13 times and had 13
13 receptions, which is the second best total for a tight end of all time in terms of having
100% catch right.
And, you know, there's no Justin Jefferson, so they had to throw to somebody.
Collar Murray, 27 for 37 for 247 yards.
Vikings are 4 and 0 in two of those games, they didn't even score a touchdown in them,
the bears and the dolphins.
I don't think that's ever happened before.
Well, that is odd.
We say you don't think it's ever.
happen. Do you know if it's ever happened?
I don't know for sure, so I'm saying I think.
Okay. I think it has. I think it's happened five times.
It feels like it might have happened at some point.
I don't know. All right. The Vikings, here's their schedule coming up.
At the Saints, home to the Colts, at the Lions, home to the bills, at the Packers, at the 49ers.
than Falcons and Panthers.
Like, you look at it and, Drew, they should make the playoff, shouldn't they?
That's a pretty easy schedule.
I still don't think they're any good.
They could easily go to Detroit if you beat the Saints and the Colts and be 6 and 0.
They're hard to grade.
Their defense has been awesome.
Teams have not been scoring on them.
I believe in their defense.
I can't figure out their office.
Like Justin Jefferson doesn't play.
You know, the quarterback's been changing.
We had Carson win.
I guess they keep winning, but they're not, their offense doesn't look good.
Just like Billy said, I think they have the worst points per yards per play in the entire NFL, and they're still undefeated.
The offense just didn't do much.
Is that right?
Maybe if they turn it on and get healthy and they get some chemistry going when Jefferson's back, the office starts scoring, but right now they've been all defense.
That's an amazing stat.
I mean, their defense has been excellent, but that is amazing.
If they are last and points per play and four and over.
play NFL. Let's just confirm that. I mean, I hope it's either true or you're wild.
I thought my stat was a little better, but whatever you want to go with.
Well, but I don't believe your stat is correct.
I said, I think. Both of you just created a stat. I think there's a chance Drew's stats right.
We'll go with it. 49ers beat the Broncos 2414.
49ers are also 4-0. Brock Purdy, two touchdown passes.
thought he played really well, made the plays when he needed to.
They scored on three straight second half drives after being downed at halftime.
I think the big play in this game was when a fumbled punt return by Denver flipped the field and got the 49ers going.
But I'm in on Purdy, who I think has had a really good start of the season,
might even be an MVP contender, Drew.
Yeah, your boys looking good.
good. There's also a play in this game where Kittle hit the Jets. I didn't even know he was capable of that.
Did you know Kittle was that fast? No, and he's coming off an injury.
I thought he would get to midfield on that play. And then you were like, what?
Yeah, he outran the whole secondary.
That was one of the more eye-opening runs. I don't know if he's that fast or that defender going after him was just that slow.
But that was pretty impressive.
And that was the play of the game that was late.
It was 60 yards roughly to get in the end zone.
It was a three-point game and they were just trying to make it to where Denver was not able to get the ball.
And instead they just went and drove down the field and scored.
Did you see that run, Billy?
I did.
And Kittle tore his Achilles in January of this year and he's running that fast.
So is Kittle one of these dudes who's like, I don't need to get rehab, I can eat kale.
I don't even know if he's eating kale.
I think he's eating the tobacco and butt heavies.
I mean, that doesn't seem like a guy that's reaching for the kale, if we're being honest.
That's true.
I mean, at his size and to be over 30 years old, like you, I'm like, well, he's going to get tackled.
And he just kept picking up speed.
I gave him a lot of credit because he always looks to me like he needs to shower.
And yet, and yet he's really, really good.
and that is Matt Jones's pick for most surprisingly athletic play of the season.
I did not see that one coming.
Seahawks beat the charges 30 to 23.
Scores a little misleading.
Seahawks dominated this game.
Justin Herbert got some garbage time touchdowns at the end.
Seattle has, you know, since their second week, surprising loss, looked really good.
I still think they're a contender.
You can make an argument that the three best teams in the NFC are all in the same division.
And the Seahawks will have something to say before this is over.
I agree about that division.
And also the Chargers, for a little while, they could blame bad luck and injuries.
At this point, they're just not good.
They had a bunch of penalties, a bunch of turnovers, a terrible first half.
I mean, they're going to be at the bottom of the standings when the season ends.
and it's not because an offensive lineman got hurt
or because the ball bounced the wrong way once or twice.
They are just not good.
Yeah, and it was 30 to 13 in this game, and they were done.
I mean, so Herbert, if you just look at his stats,
it looks like he played well.
I think he had 19 of 31 or whatever, but he did not.
He played, if you just watch the second half, he looked great,
but he was awful in the first half.
Panthers beat the lines on Sunday night football.
Bryce Young is good.
I'm going to go ahead and say it.
329 yards passing.
He had a couple touchdowns, no interceptions.
Chubba Hubbard, who when I picked him in the fantasy draft,
I got some scorn, has been a huge player for me.
122 yards.
They had McMillan had 192 yards receiving on 14 catches.
Crazy good game.
You know, they had a bunch of receivers out.
So McMillan was really the only guy that they were going,
that they could go to and he was awesome.
Carolina, I mean, they're two and two, but I feel like Bryce Young has played well.
Yeah, Bryce Young is, it's like a little case study we have in the NFL because now,
especially with my team in Tennessee, you draft a quarterback and you expect him to be good
immediately and then you throw him away, Malik Willis, will have assumed to be Cam Ward.
But Carolina is talking about how the patience with him and letting him develop has turned into
this and what is this year three?
And we're normally, everywhere's quick to give up on a guy.
Carolina has trusted him, and it's paying off because he was getting crushed in his first year as a rookie.
And now I think they really like what they have.
Yeah.
I mean, the Panthers have scored 37, 34, 18, and 32.
I mean, it's pretty good, right?
Yeah, they're going to win a bad division, I think.
On the Lions end, remember last week I said they've had 31 every game.
I mean, they got 26.
their offense is scoring a lot, but they are giving up so many points.
That defense is going to ruin their year.
They have the worst past defense ever.
I mean, they are literally playing like random Joe's out there.
I'm telling you, you're going to look back and go when Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn left,
I think the whole Campbell thing just took a huge hit.
And even though Aaron Glenn hasn't been overly successful with the Jets,
the defense sure misses him.
I mean, the Jets defense, Drew, is really good.
So I think it showcases how much he's missed in Detroit.
Yeah, I like Dan Campbell, but this season is not good for his argument that it was him and not those coordinators.
Because we know Ben Johnson a year ago, but the Jets are not the Jets of old.
And Glenn has that defense looking pretty good as the Lions.
Even though they have some injuries in the secondary, their defense is letting everyone score.
And Matt, what do you call it?
What do you call it?
What's his name?
I was just reading this thing there.
Did I pronounce it wrong?
I think he said Chubba Hubba.
I did not say Chubba Hubba.
I said Hubbard.
I said Chuba Hubbard.
He certainly didn't say Chuba.
I did not say Chuba Hubba.
I'm not like talking about bubble gum hubba bubba over here.
Well, he is on your fantasy team, so I imagine you just got in a comment up in it.
I said Chuba Hubbard and you somehow turned that into Chubba Hubba.
Well, that's what I'll be calling him.
What is it with people acting like I said something I didn't say?
Well, you were right the first time.
Yeah, you were right.
You said the correct thing the first time.
Chubba hubba.
Well, he's been good.
I'll say that.

Finally, do you have any news?
Yeah, I got three news notes for you
The first is that Jim Harbaugh
has said that offensive coordinator
Mike McDaniel's job
Is not in jeopardy after the
and four start.
Well, I mean, I guess they're just like, why pay someone else?
Because, I mean, they're done.
But Mike McDaniel, you talk about a guy whose career, like, trajectory has just completely reversed.
He came off being this hot shot coordinator and then had some success early in Miami.
And since then, Drew, just falling off the map.
And they have the pieces.
They're supposed to be an offensive team.
and he's supposed to be an offensive mind.
And I don't know how many touchdowns they have this year.
I don't have that right in front of me.
But they're only scoring like 14, 16, 14.
You know, they're not putting up.
I don't even know if they've scored 20 in a game yet this year.
I guess they just did at Seattle on a loss by patting it there at the end.
But that was with some late meaningless points.
The problem is McDaniel keeps going to places where he can get distracted by the DJ scene.
He went to Miami in L.A.
He needs to be in, yes, he needs to be in Green Bay or Charlotte.
because everywhere he goes, he's on the ones and twos, and he's not creating any offense.
And he doesn't have the excuse like he had Miami after, well, Tua was hurt and he didn't have his quarterback.
I mean, he's got Justin Herbert just not working out.
What's next?
What's next is that Kyle Shanahan passed Bill Walsh and coached his 167th game for the 49ers on Sunday.
That's the most in franchise history.
He's 95 and 72 in that span, while Bill Walsh was 92 and 59 for his career.
Should we start thinking about Kyle Shanahan the same way we do about Bill Walsh?
I mean, you could make an argument.
What Shanahan has done is even in some ways more impressive.
Because he doesn't have Joe Montana and Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, and those guys.
Right?
Like, I mean, who does, what all-timers is Shanahan coaching?
I mean, he's got McCaffrey, but McCaffrey's been hurt most of the time he's been there.
I guess George Kittle.
he did have Debo
McCaffrey
yeah I said that
but I don't know
I mean
Bill Walsh is a legend he also kind of
created a lot of the modern
West Coast offense
but I do think Kyle Shanahan
he's not underrated
people appreciate him but
he is
he's certainly in the
conversation drew with those great
coaches in history
yeah and I didn't
live through Walsh to know
you know, the specifics of how it was going.
But with Shanahan, I know that last year they beat the Eagles using a linebacker
that was signed out of the parking lot because for the last three, four years,
their injury report has been so long.
So Shanahan has overcome stuff and is still winning,
also in a division with the Seahawks and the Rams right now.
So as good as Walsh was, there's just a lot of things working against Shanahan,
and he keeps finding a way to win.
Really good point. What's next?
All right.
And finally, Matt, you touched on this at the beginning of this show.
Tyreek Hill's agent Drew Rosenhaus says he plans to begin negotiating a deal for his veteran wide receiver with multiple teams today.
One of those teams are the Chiefs who lost Taekwon Thornton to injury and Rishi Rice.
He's going to the Chiefs.
Like why even act like he's going anywhere else?
And that's where he should go.
Like if I were his agent, I don't care what the financial offer is.
You got to rebuild his career.
And the best chance for him to rebuild his career is with Andy Reid and Patrick Holmes.
I wouldn't even consider going anywhere else if I were here.
And Drew, the chiefs need him now.
Thornton's not coming back.
Are they going to get, they'll get rice back, right?
At some point.
So, yes, that's where you should go.
Tyree Kiel should be on the Chiefs.
It makes sense for everyone, especially Tyree Kiel.
It's like you did Tom in Miami for three or four years after your chief for so long.
Other than some personal success, the Dolphins did nothing.
If I were him, I would be crawling back to Kansas City to get back with my homes in a winning culture.
Can I say one more thing about the on the Chiefs game?
I will say this.
I'm pro-Chiefs and they play with it.
My Holmes made a big mistake in that game.
Did you see that?
When they were trying to run out the clock and on third down,
he just threw it up in the air and it went incomplete, which stopped the clock.
Had he not done that, they would have been able to,
probably run 40 seconds off.
Instead, he throws an incomplete pass, and he gives them a minute and a half, and all they
needed was a field goal.
Billy, I thought that was a play that Mahom's way too smart to do.
Yeah, this seems like a big mistake from somebody like him.
It also sounds like your strategy when there's only two seconds left in the game,
just throw it up as high as you can.
I just saw the Thornton thing for the first time.
Was it an accident?
Yeah.
Yeah, it was on the TV screen.
Although they didn't show, they showed him because he stood up.
Yeah, stood up immediately after, then sat back down.
They just showed him stand up, but then they didn't show him.
Oh, so he had that adrenaline rush where, you know, think good.
Probably didn't realize what was going over.
It was like trying to pick him up.
He's like, no, man, my ankle sideways.
I can't believe he would just sit and stare at that all the other.
No, no, I just wanted to see it for the first time.
Don't gatekeep the injury from me.
Billy wants all access.
All access to all gross things.
Zoom in.
All right.
Well, thank you folks very much for listening.
We'll be back later this week.
Tighten up.
We'll see Thursday.
