NFL Cover Zero with Matt Jones and Drew Franklin is a production of the NFL and IHeart podcast. It's week two of NFL Cover Zero. I'm Matt Jones, Drew Franklin, Billy R. Sports here. We are doing this on a Monday for your scheduling reason. So we missed the late night window last night, but that means we've had time. to fully digest all the games. Drew, as exciting and score-filled as week one was, week two was kind of characterized with a lot of really boring starts to games.

Now, there were some really good finishes, but there was a period during the one o'clock window where like every game was six to three or seven to zero. The defense is kind of won in week two. Yeah, it was unusually chaotic. We didn't get the exciting start in the beginning, like we did a week ago, but then when you look at this scoreboard at the end of the day, Sunday seemed kind of drunk with some heavy favorites going down and some teams we didn't expect

to be undefeated, undefeated through two weeks. Well, okay, just to make that point, I mean, after the first week, you would have probably said that the worst teams were the Browns, you know, the jets, you know, the dolphins, etc. and some of them put up huge fights and one of them even won. Vikings are 2 and 0 in first place in the division. This has been a weird, Chargers are 0 and 2 and like almost seem like a lot to not make the playoffs. We have to remember, I think we forget this every year. The NFL is ridiculous.

Yeah. And unless you have one of the three best quarterbacks and they're healthy, you can make an argument that you never really know how these teams. teams are going to do. Yeah, we think of teams that stink, and there are teams that stink. I'm a fan of one of them. But for the most part, not to be cliche, any given Sunday a team can show up and win in the NFL. It's not college where the disparity is so big. These are pros. It still has been quite surprising, though, even knowing that, like the Chargers Raiders game yesterday, sure, I would expect one of those teams to be 0 and 2 and the other 2 and 0 after that game, but I wouldn't have the Raiders as the undefeated team, and the Chargers is winless. So it's been a little more

upside down than I thought it would have even been being the NFL at this stage. I think that's right. Did you sit and watch all the games yesterday or were you like me and celebrated so much watching the Kentucky game that I maybe took a good nap from the second

quarter through half time of the first set of games? I'm glad you confessed first. I told Billy before we started this. I rarely miss a minute of NFL football and I was on my couch the entire time, but there was moment where I woke up and there was like five minutes left in the fourth quarter.

I probably was out for about 30 minutes, but it was a very action-packed 30 minutes on Red Zone when I was out. I give them credit, though. Like, it was a good nap day. You don't get a lot of those in the NFL. And a good nap day is not bad. So let's get started. Let's start.

I'll lead off on the first one. The Chiefs last night win in overtime against the Colts, 3330. You know, last year the Chiefs were what? one and nine in one score games. Of course, two years ago, they were 11 and one. Seems like they can never hit a happy medium, but they, for a night, get their old ways. Travis Kelsey hit the throwback machine and had over 100 yards. He ties gronk for the most times any tight-ins ever done this. I think the most important takeaway of this game, were you cool with Taylor Swift pointing to the ring after Kelsey scored the touchdown?

Is that good wifey behavior? Was she just saying that's my husband or is she saying he's going to go get another? Was that like, let's get a Super Bowl ring? I hadn't either. I wasn't sure with the interpretation. I loved it, whichever it is, but I wasn't sure if she was just saying, that's my man or like we're good and we're going and getting another one. That's an interesting point.

I hadn't thought about if she was like, that's my husband or he's going to go get a ring. I'm going to say it was more, that's my husband. What's that TikTok trend? Yeah, that's mine. You know, where it's just saying like, oh, no, that's what I'm doing. Yeah, I'm doing the TikTok trend. Yeah, that's my husband. Why are you laughing?

No, I know it. That's mine. And it just shows the husband. I get it. Yeah. And then she said, why, wine. Isn't that the other one? I think so.

See, we're young on this show. People try to say we're old, don't know stuff. We can get us. I keep up with the trends. I can get a white wine. But, uh, I thought Mahomes look, I mean, he played well last week, but I thought he looked very Mahomes like yesterday. You know, they started the season at home, both games, they get two wins.

I mean, I'm not ready to put them in the Super Bowl yet, but I think you, you, it's looking like last year, assuming Mahomes stays healthy, more of a blip on the radar than the way they're, then headed for a downhill stretch. Yeah, assuming they're healthy, they have two things that have gone gone for them so far. see looks like he's had a little bit of the founding of youth looking young again in the last two games and Kenneth Walker didn't find the end zone last night but had almost 200 yards he's just going to be an absolute weapon for them I remember how many

passes he caught I know of at least one he had close 60 yards receiving so the way he can do it as a dual threat just getting on a good team the six win team of a year ago long gone in the rearview mirror and they're going to be there in the conversation at the end this season you got to make sure you don't overwork him I think think if you're the chiefs because there is a little bit of a, I think, worry they might do that

considering how much they're using him. But with that said, I'm not sure you could have much better of a performance. And, you know, you can't help but be, if you're a Chiefs fan, very excited about that offense. And then on the Colts side, they had life, right? I mean, would you have gone for it on the fourth and eight in regulation? Yeah, just because you're playing at Kansas City. I'm more of a gambler in situations like that. As good as the Chiefs looked in getting the win, my big takeaway of the night is how the Colts still managed 30 points in that game.

I did not think that year two of the Daniel Jones experience there coming off an injury. That offense would look great, even though they do have Jonathan Taylor. And for them to take it to overtime, had the lead at halftime, as plays well as they did in the loss. I thought that said a lot. I know they don't want moral victories, but for me, I think the Colts are a lot better than I had given them credit for. Well, he looked a lot more mobile than he did in week one.

In week one, it kind of looked like he was post-Akilly's injury, just not going to be the same guy this year. And he looked closer to that this week. I still don't really think they're relevant long-term. But I think you got to go for it there. I mean, the moment they kicked that field goal, like, I could have written script to the rest of the game. You know, the question was just, you know,

because one thing, moms, like, never fails in that situation, ever. Like, he never fails. in that situation. So I thought either the Colts will get first ball, kick a field goal, then Mahomes will score a touchdown, or we would get what we got, which is, you know, them not scoring and then the chief scoring. So I would have gone for it.

You got a better chance of making the eight yards there, I think, than beating on Mahomes team at home in overtime. So that was a mistake, but I think most coaches probably kick it because they're scaredy cats. All right, Billy, you're going to lead us through the games here. What's your first? Well, Daniel Jones now one in 16 in prime time, does that matter at all to you? Yes.

But it's also in part because the Coastal, like, that's when they play the good teams. Like, I mean, when they're playing the Titans, the game's not in prime time. So I would use it more as he's one in 16 against the best teams in the league. And a lot of that, he's a giant playing Eagles, Cowboys, a lot of games like that, punching up in that division before he got to Indy. That's a really good point. Yeah, there's a lot of those games that were occurring. All right, what's up?

All right, we'll start with your team, Matt. The Bears lose a rain-soaked 9-3 ball game against the Minnesota Vikings. It's the seventh straight win at Soldier Field for the Vikings, and now Carson Wentz, who's at the helm. But we all saw the injury to Caleb Williams. We got some news this morning that it looks like Caleb has avoided any major injury to his hamstring. Ben Johnson says he expects Caleb Williams to be weak to week with his hamstring injury. Yeah, so I don't really take anything at all from the game because of the weather.

And the Bears, DeAndre Swift fumbles at the one. You know, Caleb gets hurt. Like, the Bears should have won that game. Didn't. Maybe that'll end up costing him. We'll see. The bigger story is Caleb's injury or, so when I saw it in real time, I was like, he's out for the year and I saw it how terrible.

Their season's gone. Now it looks like it's basically just a slight pull of the hamstring and people are saying he can play in week three. So people are making fun of him, Drew. Yeah. I'm not objective. I like Caleb. You know, sometimes you, sometimes you hurt you.

Sometimes you get a boo-boo and it hurts. And in the moment it hurts. So like, do you think people should be making fun of it? There's a lot of it. I am not participating in it. However, I am someone like everyone else watching in real time, thought there goes the bear's season. He's going to be out a long time.

My first thought was the Madden Curse strikes again. And then, you know, to wake up, up this morning and see that it was a fingernail. I'll admit, I'm not participating, but I have read a lot of the making fun of him online. And I won't say it's justified, but it did the Paul Pierce comparisons of the wheelchair and some of the memes that are popping up. I get it. I get it. It's not fair. Okay. I stumped my toe last week. And it hurt. And I was on the floor and I was screaming and I thought my toe was broken and I nearly called the ambulance. You know, sometimes you get hurt in life and it may not linger, but, you know, people, people might have a heart attack, Drew, and it really hurts

in the moment. And then, like, they get to go home the, like, two days later, didn't mean they didn't have a heart attack, you know what I mean? So, like, just because he ended up not being hurt, doesn't mean he wasn't in a lot of pain in the moment. I'm with you. I think it's because it's a lot of the, you know, he did the thumbs up that you see going off the fifth. when a guy's been seriously. But if you had a heart attack, you might do a thumbs up. I get it. And you got to defend your quarterback.

It just did. It felt like, look, we may never see Caleb Williams again. And then now he's back at practice. And that's what we should be doing. We should be celebrating that. We should not be mocking a young man who, by the miracles of modern science, and by the fact that he is tough as nails and is willing to overcome injuries, by sheer will.

We should not make fun of him for the fact that, you know, we should be praising medical science. We shouldn't be mocking him for pain tolerance. Now, I know some doctors have come out and said, this is like the lightest injury you could do to a hamstring. I don't know. No, no, no, but I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm not.

I don't believe that's, don't get me alternative. I'm with you. I'm raising the question for those doctors. What if it only turned out that way because Caleb was built to withstand that injury. Let's say it had been any of the other 31 starting quarterbacks, maybe it's the worst injury they've ever seen. Thank you.

But because of his physical makeup and his toughness and just how strong as hamstrings are, maybe that's why it became such a light injury. Great point. He's almost like a bionic man in some ways. And in that respect, he deserves the utmost praise. And I think it's shameful people are making fun of him. And I do not make fun of players ever.

and I expect others to take the lead. Billy, what's next? A good game in the one o'clock window was the Saints coming back to beat the Ravens 24 to 17. Baltimore led 17 to 9 in the third quarter with the ball. But Tyler Shuck led the Saints back. They scored on a quarterback sneak with about two minutes left. The Ravens were without Zay Flowers, but on the other side it was Chris Olive,

who had another great performance for New Orleans. Are the Saints for real? I don't know, but I wouldn't want to play them in the fourth quarter. I mean, they should just tell them there's only one court. It's two straight games where they've looked awesome. You've got to give them credit. I mean, they're like the plucky team that doesn't have a ton of talent. And Shuck is like kind of the epitome of that.

He's just sort of a dude running around and hoping stuff happens. The lobby was great. My sleeper fantasy pick from the fantasy draft, Devon Valey, he's sitting on my bench, but he's starting to ask for reps here because I picked him. As you know, I said on this show, watch out for him. I mean, everybody was like, why? And I go, I don't really know him. It just feels like the right pick.

And now that's starting to come to fruition. Yeah, the Saints are a 2-0 team. But in my brain, I'm thinking of them as one because the way they played at Detroit, down on the wire and lose that one in week one. And then go to Baltimore and win, I'm starting to think maybe they are for real. And that way, just a little bit of luck in week one playing Detroit so close. and on the on the baltimore end you got rid of a good coach because he'd have a few games like this and couldn't take advantage of a healthy lamar i mean this is the same problems ahead lamar's healthy

they went up on the saints and still end up losing this game this is what the ravens were trying to avoid doing the reason they haven't gotten over the hump and won a super bowl yet is little things like this and here they are two weeks into the new coach and they're losing the game they shouldn't have when they had a lead at home yeah this is i don't know what this is a little bit of a concerning loss to me for the raven I mean, look, you're whole. That's the big thing. You're home. But they do this.

Like, they've done this last couple years. They lose an early game at home. And then you go back and you look and you go, well, how did that happen? But this is one, like you said, 173 with the ball. You have got to, you know, you've got to finish that. And so I think it's very, very disappointing. But I will say, I am impressed by the fact that the Saints were able to come back. And I kind of like the Saints.

You know what I mean? I don't know about you, but I'm kind of, I think I'm kind of a fan. I mean, Tyler Shuck might be good. I don't think he had a turnover in this game. I mean, he didn't go up and completely light him up, but it was at Baltimore and a team that was supposed to have reloaded its defense this off season. So for the way he started year two, going on the road to two places known for having pretty good tough teams. I'm very impressed with how he's playing as a sophomore. I am too. I think you got to give him a lot of credit. and give me the Saints is my like secondary, fun to watch. You never know what's going to happen to.

The other overtime game this week was the Packers at the Jets

with Green Bay coming back to win 20 to 17 in overtime. Green Bay snaps a six-game losing streak dating back to last year. They were down 10 in the fourth quarter despite 14 penalties in the game. Jordan Love scores for two touchdowns, and the Jets are no longer undefeated. Yeah, a big putt return in this game that sort of made a difference. I was watching this game in New York, and there were Jets fans everywhere,

and you want to talk about a group of people to just have an absolute doom complex. I mean, the entire game, They were just like, when are we going to collapse? When are we going to collapse? Okay, now we have collapsed. It was like one of the sadder things that I have seen. I mean, the Jets could have been 2 and 0. The Packers worry me.

Like, even their win in a little bit, I mean, there was never a moment in this game. They were impressive, you know, down 17 to 7. But there was a big pass interference call, a big punt. And so they got a lot of breaks. I still wouldn't feel great. was Green Bay. No, Green Bay got to stole this one.

The Jets out gained them, won the turnover margin. They did just about everything you're supposed to do to win a football game and the Packers come in and steal it at the end. If the Packers hadn't

have come back and gotten this win, I don't think it's crazy to be like the seasons might even be over for them if it's right. Like if you're Michael Parsons trying to come back from injury and the Packers are 0 and 2

with losses to the Vikings and Jets, that's hard to come back from. So it's crazy it is to say a season saving win. I think that kind of in week two against New York Jets of all teams, but almost that bad. I think it is season saving. The Jets are better.

That is a takeaway, even though they lost this game. They are competitive. You know, the weather was nasty. I think that was part of that. The weather played a role in a lot of these games. And I, but it was a very, it was sloppy. And so, again, it's kind of like with the Bears game, when it's that sloppy and it's outside.

I don't know how much you take away. but if you're sitting there for the Packers, you should thank your lucky stars, as Lee Green would say, to be living here today. Because one in one stands for having a chance, and they can't take that away. So good for Green Bay.

Otherwise, I think they would be in trouble. What's next? Well, speaking of sloppy, two bad offenses went out in Foxborough, as the New England Patriots beat the Steelers 20 to 3, the Pat's defense forced Aaron Rogers to have two fumbles and carried Drake May, who only had 208 yards and one interception. The Steelers have scored one touchdown in 25 possessions through two weeks. Aaron Rogers, after the game said he needs to do a better job of letting his coaches know

that they're calling the wrong place. I mean, what a perfect, again, such a perfect Aaron Rogers comment. A 42-year-old man should not let his body get beat up like that. He needs to retire because he looked, the Patriots abused that man. and all day. Yeah, and they were blitzing him. They were going right at him like he's 42 years old. Now, five straight games going back to last year,

the Rogers has not had more than one touchdown pass. You know that's eating him up a little bit. And I'm glad that I'm not taking, wasn't taking crazy pills before the season, because Aaron Rogers and Mike McCarthy were talking about their reunion and how excited they were. And I thought, I didn't even think you all liked each other. And now, I know.

But in the preseason, it was all we're getting back together, getting the band back together. Well, now we're seeing it's not going to work, and I didn't think it was ever going to work. And that's clear right now is they had three points this week after their defense had to do the scoring a week ago. You know, for people who like New York Sports Talk Radio, it's like Mike and the Mad Dog, they have like a reunion every few years. And they sit like 100 yards away from each other. It's not fun. They're both angry.

Like, that's what this reunion is. I also will note, though, if the Patriots still don't look good, even though they won this game. You all made fun of me in the fantasy draft for picking two quarterbacks. Thank goodness, because Drake May set the bench for me today and Brock Purdy had a huge game and allowed me to go 2 and O. Because Drake May, he's still kind of looking Drake, nah, even today. I know they scored 20 points, but he didn't, that offense still looks kind of shaky, even in a big win. Yeah, and yesterday, or yesterday, last year he had the highest, QB rating and statistically he was

great. People just questioned if that would sustain. Now, sorry, you've got four interceptions in two weeks, one touchdown. It's looking like getting A.J. Brown and trying to get up some pieces hasn't exactly been working just yet in New England. Yeah. Do you, if you're D.K. Metcalf, do you wish you had

stayed in Seattle? Yeah, probably. Yeah, probably. I mean, this hasn't worked. This has not worked. I mean, like, if I was a wide receiver, I wouldn't go anywhere without first. getting in writing who the quarterback is. It wasn't all Rogers, but just look at what happened when Pickens got out of Pittsburgh.

He was nothing with the Steelers, and Dallas takes him, and he's instantly twice as good. So part of it was just being there. I mean, the guy on the Falcons, what is it, London? Drake London. I mean, by the way, Jack Strand played for the record. I said before the year was over, we would see Jack Strand. It ended up being in week two. We saw Jack Strand.

He did throw an interception in his first pass, so we're not going to, It wasn't the star beginning I'd hope for. But the quarterback situation, Aaron Rogers, if you're the Steelers, I just don't even know why you're playing. I don't know what the point is. He's not good. He's not the quarterback of the future. He second guesses you, I mean, that quote of, I should have done a better job telling

them they were running the wrong place is the most Aaron Rogers thing. It's like I'm putting it on me, but I'm clearly making it about them. It's my fault for not telling them. Yeah. It's like saying about your wife, it's on me more to tell you how annoying you are. That's not a, that's not taking responsibility at all, but that's what Aaron Rogers does. What's next? Well, you mentioned Jack Strand.

Let's bring them up now. The Panthers pounced on the Falcons, beating them 34 to 3. Bryce Young, 287 yards and three touchdowns. And a good response from the Carolina defense who allowed 59 points in week one only allow three. But Cooper Rush, three turns. turnovers. They turned to undrafted rookie Jack Strand and threw a pick six on his first pass. Didn't watch one second of this game, except I got a news alert. Jack Strand is in the game. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I did have a Google notification on Jack Strand.

Because I wanted to be right about this and I get this notification Jack Strand's in the game. So I quickly turn it over and the first thing I see is him throw an interception. And so I turned it back off. So I can't say a lot about this game, Drew, because I watched one play and it was the Jack Strand interception. Otherwise, all I see is that, like, looks like Bryce Young is good. But beyond that, nothing. Yeah, Carolina's offense has looked good this year. Had another big game this week.

But the story is just Atlanta. You have Bijon Robinson, Kyle Pitts, Drake, London. You have what you need. But your quarterback position is Cooper Rush into Jack Strand. I don't know how that happens when it hadn't even been three years since you overpaid cousins, drafted pinnicks, and you go get Tua. and somehow none of those guys are playing for you, and Jack Strand is out there throwing the ball.

First of all, Kyle Pitts only has two catches on the season. Like he's not, he's been completely non-existent. In his two coaching gigs, he has had the worst quarterback luck of anybody. I think I saw he's like coached five years. This is his fourth year as a coach, and he's had like 13 starting quarterbacks during that time. I mean, you can't, you cannot have worse quarterback luck than he's had. Well, a year ago, he's trying to decide between Dylan Gabriel or Sodor Sanders behind Deshaun Watson.

And now he's like, I have this thing called Jack Strand that I did not know existed four months ago. And I'm trying to give it to him from Cooper Rush. Like, what did I give up on Jack? I'm not. But if you're Kevin Stefansky, you're like, how can I prove I can coach when these are the quarterbacks I'm working with? I need you to stop acting like Jack Strand is not going to work. I just have sympathy for Stefansky. He started on the bottom, and one day he's going to be there. I think so, yeah, I think he's still the backup. All right, go ahead. It was considered one of, if not the hottest game in Titans' franchise history. The artificial turf was 157 degrees and players' cleats were melting. The Titans took on the Eagles.

They sacked Hertz three times, picked him off twice, but Hertz still led them on a 65-yard drive with two minutes left to win the game. I don't know about you, but there was never a moment I thought the Titans were winning this game. I just knew somehow, come on. We kicked one on. About the 157 degrees. So first, I don't know if I believe that. I mean, I always read that and people show thermometers, but I kind of don't know what that means.

The cleats melting, that's crazy. I guess they just, they got to get grass or something, right? I don't think they're putting that in the new dome. It would be nice if they did that. Well, they have it in the LA Dome. When did this new trend start? I'm seeing it all the time now of reporters walking up with the thermometer. It's before like every game now.

It is, yeah. I'm like, you're in the Mercedes Benz Dome. They carry meat thermometers everywhere they go, just in case they get a pot roast or a football field. Anything to not talk about the actual Titans before the game. However, I became a believer. We're going to win a game this year. Oh, you are?

Okay. Well, this week taught me, all right, maybe the Jets are a little better that I gave them credit for. And then... No, they lost. No, when they beat Tennessee. I thought the Jets were just picking on a bad Tennessee team. But they lost this week. Yeah, they played well.

They played well. I'm just that. The Jets know how to tie their shoes for the first time. And I'm learning maybe my Titans can tie their shoes too. It says a lot about Philly. I don't think they're dominant. But the fact that we should have won it and tells me there will be a game this year.

I'm officially changing my prediction from zero wins to one win this season. But was there ever a moment you thought they were going to win? Yeah, yeah. We had a three-point lead late in the game. I thought, come on. We got this. Yeah, I never thought they were going to win. As a matter of fact, I was, like, trying to figure out how they were going to lose.

I was playing in my head. And then the moment the Eagles got the ball there, I was fairly certain. But I was pulling for them for you. I want them to win a game. You are hard suffering. And, you know, they have 157-degree turkey boil on the field. I would like to see them. By the way, I saw the movie.

The moment that game ended, I ran the movie theater, saw Tony last night about Anthony Bourdain. it's a good movie. Didn't even know that was out. I'm behind on my movies. How did you not know it was out? Do you not follow the news? I legit haven't been to the movie theater or seen more than two movies in years.

You didn't go to The Odyssey? I think the last movie I saw in theaters was the new Top Gun. I'm not kidding. How long ago was that? A couple years. Yeah. So you didn't see Tony.

No, I do like Anthony Burdane, so I'll have to see it. It's good, though. he's not very likable in that movie. Yeah, he kind of, even though I like him a lot from reading his books, he's got a little jerk to him. I obviously haven't seen the movie yet to know how they paint that up. Stavros is in it.

And the dude, the British dude from White Lotus, who I, he plays a jerk to everyone's a jerk in the movie, except Antonio Banderas, who, it's hard for me to watch Antonio Banderas in a serious role because I just think he's going to break out in Bizarro at some point. And Salma Hyac's going to walk in. Yeah. Exactly. And so it's good. It's worth it. You should go see, you should go see Anthony. I will say, it's a little bit of a digression. I'm going to give you one spoiler from the movie. Anthony Bourdain meets a girl at a bar. And he's like, what are you doing this summer? And she goes, oh, I'm going to be in Provincetown, Massachusetts. You should look me up when I come back in September. Like, she's being kind of a little flirty, right? My man just goes and lives in Provincetown for the summer. her.

Just, like, hoping to run into. He committed too hard. And he runs into her. He's like, hey, I just happened to be living in Provincetown, too. And she's like, what? And he goes, yeah. And then she acts like that's normal. Come on.

Like, it's one of the, can you imagine meeting someone in a bar? And then just moving to the town that she's going to be in for the summer and like, didn't even have a place to sleep. Yeah, he leaned way too hard into that. for there of hoping to run in one time. It's like, it's like, it's like, I didn't know you lived here. You know, he's just, you know, he worked. Like, he literally, okay, again, spoiler alert, he gets her high school yearbook out of the library, not sure how he did that. Um, it gets her high school yearbook, rips out her high school yearbook page and walks the streets of Provincetown going,

have you seen this woman? Yeah, I think he needs to be on a list somewhere. She needs some kind of restraining order. And so, and one guy just goes, yeah, she's in that piece. How did he know she was in there? Life was much simpler back then. I'm just saying, the ick meter would have gotten pretty high for the woman I would have thought on that scenario. So you found a stat that said this is the first game. Both games are Todd? Yeah, well, I heard it on the red zone. But the Browns beat the Bucks 23 to 19. There was a two hour and 12 minute lightning delay after Tampa Bay was at the 20-yard line with two minutes left. They do not score. And Deshawn Watson saves his job for another week for throwing for two touchdown.

So what are you, Billy, I mean, this is a terrible loss for your team. Terrible. Tried to tell you in the offseason. What do you, I mean, what, your season's over, right? Season's over, yep. You got to fire bowls. Is Baker done? No, Baker's the guy.

I mean, you paid him, so we're stuck with him now. But, you know, we've had, what, four or five offensive coordinators in five years in a row. There's no continuity. Todd Bowles has got to go. Why didn't want him now? Why wouldn't have paid you? Why? I mean, this result.

Oh, yeah. Yeah, well, it was disappointing. You know, that was a revenge game, you know, playing the Browns again. But, I mean, it was a monsoon. There were standing water in the end zone that the bucks were trying to score in. And then, you know, the rest is history there. But Browns get a win. Now they have to play Deshaun Watson now, right?

Yeah, that's the big takeaway for me. I had faded the bucks this year. I'm surprised they lost this one, but I didn't have high bucks expectations. Now I'm actually looking at Deshawn Watson like, maybe you do know how to quarterback. I mean, that was... Yeah, I don't know about that. That was a legit comeback because they were not running the ball at all.

They had like 40 yards. Like Deshaun Watson went out and won that game, which I would not have believed possible a week ago. So are they going to booing? Yes. I mean, if he's lost, absolutely. He just won a road game as the quarterback of the Browns. I don't think you can boo that even with everything going on.

I mean, I think secretly, they wanted to look. I think the Browns are so bad that when they want to lose, they can't even do that. Because I think they secretly wanted to lose, and then I think they were going to cut him, right? But now they, I mean, it's got to be the first time in history. It's either start or be cut based on one game. But now I think you have to start him. You can't bitch him after that, right?

Not at all. He played really well. I mean, you would be tanking if you handed. it to Shadour or Gabriel right now after as good as he played on the road in that game. Whatever you think of the bucks, whatever, anything. I mean, Deshawn Watson played a good game and I, it'd be

even though I don't like the guy and all the stuff you have going on, it'd be crazy to take the football away from him now going back to Cleveland. Yeah, but the record show Drew is very pro Deshaun Watson, just for the right. Well, he did help me. I want my Titans to have the number one pick, and this is a

great start to the year if we're going to do that. Yeah, let the record show, when you think of Deshawn Watson. Think of Drew Franklin. They're both. I'm pro Deshawn Watson. He earned another game. All right. In the final one o'clock game, Joe Burrow in Cincinnati traveled to Houston and beat the Texans 20 to 6. Jamar Chase, who only had two catches for 12 yards in week one, had seven for 75 and two touchdowns, including a catch-of-the-year candidate. CJ Stroud, meanwhile, threw the ball 55 times as Houston running back's only had 18 yards, and Houston who started 0 and 3 last year are now 0 and 2. Really boring game.

That's my biggest takeaway. Really boring game. For two teams that I was really excited to watch this one, it was brutal, but a big win for the Bengals. They've started the season terribly for like the last five seasons, and now they're two and oh with two wins against good teams scheduled. They got some easier games coming up. I think, you know, Bengals fans got to be really excited.

definitely we know what their offense is and what it could do but they spend a lot to try to improve the defense and if they're going to be good this year the defense has to improve week one me but going into houston and holding that team to six points stopping that run game looks so good a week ago and shutting them down if i'm a bingles fan i'm i'm very excited about what we did defensively there and then i just pray to the injury gods that the offense stays healthy this season and i think we have a really great team and then the texans i mean they're now owing to two contenders came into their building. They lost both games. I mean, the season's not over because they're in an easy division. But that's a tough start. I mean, it's hard to get, I think I thought they could be a contender this year. I don't think you can say that now because they've really given up a huge opportunity. And they go to Indy next, which is obviously a tough game.

We know Indy just lost, but scoring 30 points at Kansas City and going back home. then they have the Cowboys after that. I mean, it's not crazy to say Houston could be 0 and 4, a team that is expecting to go to the playoffs and win a few games in the playoffs. Only teams that go 0 and 2 to start the season only make the playoffs 8% of the time. So you got to say, are they one of the 8%? Hard to say they are, at least by what we've seen so far. What's next, Billy?

In the 4 o'clock window, Denver scored 17 un-undered points to snap, Jacksonville's nine-game regular season win streak. They beat the Denver beat Jacksonville 20 to 13 at home. Jalen Waddle, big game, eight catches for 138 yards. And Bo Nix is now 24 and 11 as a starter, the same record John Elway had after 35 games. Davis Webb, the offensive coordinator, had seven quarters of looking like the worst hire

that's ever been hired to run a football team. And then the fourth quarter probably saved his ability to call plays. I think if they had played the fourth quarter, the way they had played the last seven, Sean Payton would have been announcing today he was going to take over the play calls. Didn't happen. Now I think that, you know, the Broncos had a great quarter. I still do not believe, I mean, they are one of eight in quarters, but they're one in one. Jacksonville had their opportunities in the fourth quarter.

Trevor Lawrence had a huge interception, which has always been the issue with him. you wonder if in a big moment he's going to fall through that interception probably cost him the game and put the momentum on Denver side but a big win for Denver who did not want to go on to it yeah big win for Denver and a week after jalen wattle who you go out and get to really help you out I think he had like one catch for two yards in week one had a huge game here with close to 10 catches that's the jelan wall you won showing up this season and that they might have been a little worried about after that loss in kansas city when he was absent yeah if you're jacksonville Well, you know, I think they had a pressure rate of something like 40% in the second half.

Like the offensive line is, that's a huge. Listen to this guy, pressure rate. You really are an NFL expert, Matt. Look, let me tell you some. While you all are sitting around like lollygagging, I'm reading advanced metrics about pressure rates and being, you know, I'm doing my inner cold Kublich and saying, look, we got to work. on our left guard here, Jacksonville. Who's still the left guard in Jacksonville again? Well, he's got to be

working. I mean, I think it's probably up for grabs in practice this week. Yeah, that's your point is that they don't have one. They need a new name. I'm with you. Right. If they don't get a better one, then there you go. Pressure rate could get up 50%. Exactly. Even though Jack... You need to start studying pressure rates. It's a very good... I'm impressed. I'm impressed.

and oh after beating the Chargers 26 to 14. Kirk Cousins throws for three touchdowns in his second consecutive game, and now Jim Harbaugh falls to 0-and-2 for the first time ever in his college or NFL career. Not a shocking result in terms, but like if you said before the season, the Raiders would be 2-0, Cardinals, or Chargers 0-2, you'd be shocked. Let me get to charges in a minute. I do want to say, I'm going to read this guy's name. the Raiders fifth round rookie, Hezekiah Masses.

First of all, no one told me they had a guy on their team named Hezekiah Masses, because that would have been my favorite player in the league. Hezekiah Masses is a great name. Intercepts Justin Herbert twice. Kirk Cousins looks like a functional quarterback again. Could the Raiders make the playoffs? 62% of teams that go two and oh make the playoffs. It sounds dumb, but yeah.

I mean, Cousers looks good early. Probably not going to hand it off to Mendoza anytime soon with having two loans to start the season when we thought this would be a little change over a year. I mean, Genty didn't have a huge game in this one, but he's still Genty. But that's part of what's his brother. They played well, and he wasn't Genty.

And then you have two of the best tight ends in the game. You got Brad Dean over from Philly on defense with Crosby. two weeks ago, I would have laughed at you, but right now with the two results we've seen, I don't think it's crazy to say they could get a playoff team. Genty didn't have a big game. Brat Bowers is still not a factor, and they're two and up.

I mean, come on. Call the Hezekiah masses and let them know what's happening. This is big. Now, on the other side, the chargers, they're done. I mean, they've done. The chargers are, are done. They're 0 and 2 with five, they're extremely

difficult games to come. They just lost at home to the Cardinals and the Raiders. Those should have been giving me games at home. They got their stadium overwhelmed by Raiders fans. Drew, the charges are done. Write them off. I think maybe next to the Titans,

they're the team that I'm able to write off the most. Get them out of here. And I was promised that Mike McDaniel, Justin Herbert, Harbaugh, they were going to be the fun team. Even if they weren't winning the championship, they were going to be fun and score points. And let me read you their schedule coming up because it's truly unbelievable. These are their two easy games. They go at the Bills, at the Seahawks, Denver, at Kansas City, at the Rams, Texans, at Ravens.

That is an insane seven-stay games. DJ Mikey M on the ones and two. is out. I mean, you could go 0 and 7 in that stretch. He's going to be on the 0 and 7s. Like, he is done. I mean, he is done. I mean, the chart, this will be one of the epic bombs of a season of all time.

And, like, it's not just that they're losing. They look inept. Like, they can't do anything. Justin Herbert, he can't, I mean, to be fair, he has no time. I didn't look it up, but I'm sure the pressure. rate is very high on the chargers and Herbert's not been performing they don't have receivers that can get open they're done five of the next seven games on the road all but one of them are a playoff team and the one that wasn't a playoff team is at the kansas city chiefs that is a just

gauntlet right here after two games where they were supposed to figure everything out get two easy wins and then go into that unbelievable really one of the worst that's what happens when you get married exactly no that's what happens when you hire Mike McDaniel and let him wear those sunglasses in your building, that's what happens. Yeah, I think it's more getting engaged. Like, you know, he's distracted by, you know, Kelsey now. But what's weird is Kelsey re-found life after he got married. Well, they're trying to be them.

Madison's trying to get on TV. Taylor's already got that spot. Y'all need a new angle. We already have the spouse in the booth every game. We don't need another one. Madison, you got to pick a new avenue if you want to be a celebrity in the league. That's right. Madison going 0 and 2 with that schedule.

It's not how you do it. Not how you do it. What's next? Dak Prescott threw for four touchdowns as the Cowboys beat the commanders 37 to 20. He actually passed Tony Romo as the career franchise record for touchdown passes. C.D. Lamb had a big game as well with two touchdowns and 150 yards, but it was hard to watch Jaden Daniels dislocating the same elbow that he hurt last year. end the loss.

Yeah, I, that's not good to get hurt in the same way. I mean, I don't know how long he'll be out, but if you do the same injury twice in row, I'm not a doctor, but that, that worries me. I mean, I think I'm, you kind of almost like with the charges, kind of ready to say the commanders are done as well. Do you feel like the Cowboys mojo is back as a secondary Cowboys fan? I'm still very disappointed by last week. Yeah, this helps a little bit with us.

go to the offense looked, the Daniels injury that hurts them this year, but I'm also wondering, like, if you're the commander's decision makers, like, he's got one more year on that contract, and we know he's good, but do you, is this your future, a guy that's this injured? I mean, you certainly can't spend a lot of money, right? I mean, I don't know what he's, but you can't give that guy $55 million. Well, that's a decision they'll have to make very soon, but, you know, same injury on the open. You can have him play another year on the franchise tag, but then you do leave yourself open to other penalties with that. But I don't think you can do it.

No. The answer is commanders cannot do that. You cannot commit those resources to a quarterback who's had back-to-back dislocated. You just can't. It's malpractice. And that's crazy in his rookie year. They're thinking, we got our guy, this is the future for a long time. And here two years later, he just can't stay on the field.

That was gruesome. I don't know if you saw it live. Tom Brady just, he yelled a cuss word. And he's like, oh, sorry, I just didn't expect to see that. It's like even the announcers did not have to react. Tom Brady. I like that he showed human emotion. I mean, listen, no one wants to see someone to get hurt.

You know, I mean, not everybody's like Keel Williams and can, like, fight back as quickly as he did. So, like, there's the normal human, like, you know, recovery time. And hopefully Jane Daniels, I guess we'll find out probably tomorrow. Hopefully he'll be able to come back. But I'm still worried long. term based on having that injury twice. There was a moment yesterday.

We've since learned that Caleb Williams was just a bad migraine, but it was like, did we just lose Caleb Williams and Jalen Daniels? Back to back. Yeah, that would have been terrible. In the 4 o'clock window, the Seattle Seahawks beat the Cardinals 31 to 7. This game was 7 to 7 at halftime, but then Seattle turned it on, Drewlock, through for three touchdowns all to Jackson Smith and Jigba. The Seahawks have won 10 straight over Arizona.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals have now lost eight straight home games. Yeah, I mean, Drew Locke decided, oh, yeah, I've got Jackson Smith and Jigba. Let's just do that. And, I mean, he's the best. Would you call him the best receiver in the league right now? Yeah, and I don't want to downplay Darnold last year. But part of me is like, okay, now Drew Locke's doing it. Could I do it?

Could Jack Strand do it? I mean, these guys are, but these guys are making it look so easy. I mean, Drew Locke has looked awesome through two weeks. I mean, he's looked, I don't know about awesome. He's looked awesome throwing it to Jackson Spinn and Jigva. But he's doing what he needed. I mean, it's exactly what they need from him. They've got probably what, two more games he's going to play

before they get Darno back. So they're taking care of business. And, you know, I think if you were looking at the NFC, especially with Caleb's injury, if you're to say, okay, who's the best team in the NFC so far? It looks like the new answers, same as the old one, Drew. It's Seattle. Yeah, absolutely Seattle. To even lose Walker like they did, I know the draft pick didn't play well last night, but for that team to just basically

pick the bag back up and go back to work after that loss and then not having, why is his name escape me, the Notre Dame running back hasn't really popped. Price, excuse me, Janarian Price, just hasn't popped yet. So yeah, Seattle's going to be there at the end in the conversation for sure. If you're Arizona, like you won in week one, you can deal with this. I don't think it really changes a whole whole lot. What's next? Two more.

The 49ers beat the dolphins 35 to 13. 49ers scored touchdowns on their first five drives of the game, and Christian McCaffrey became the fourth fastest player in the Super Bowl era with 100 career touchdowns. I do have to say one thing from this game. So this was the other game I didn't watch one minute of. So I logged on to the NFL's website. because they do what I think is a pretty good, like, review of the games.

And there was somebody, I don't know who wrote this, but this is, can I read you what they wrote from this game? Please. Brock Party never seen stress, and he channeled his best Oprah Winfrey going, you get a touchdown, you get a touchdown. Oh, no. Oh, that made me about skin crawl a little bit. That was on the NFL website for this game, Drew.

Just kidding. We love the NFL and our colleagues. I'm sure whoever wrote that. them in the break room after this taping. Probably not what I would have written, but Purdy, your boy, he's not one of your fantasy guys, is he? I started him this week. Okay, yeah, yeah, 20.

He was my backup. So I drafted him early and got, you know, junk for drafting a backup quarterback early, but I looked Drake Miami-I, I didn't think he had it this week, looked at Purdy. He said, I'm next man up, and then he had like 35 fantasy points.

He did, and almost only had a couple of incompletions. He's also getting an old man Kittle involved, and old man McCathrie, and all these people in San Francisco. They even got the guy involved whose wife makes the jackets. Oh, yeah. You check. Mike Evans, everybody's like all the 49ers, they're a retirement home,

but they said not just yet. I think they got at least this season of getting maximum potential into success at all those guys that we thought might have been a little too old. Oh, wait. How about that? Billy thinks that we don't know anything about football. We've already referenced pressure rates and fullbacks wives jacket making abilities.

NFL experts. That's what happens in year two of a cover zero podcast. Yeah, I want one of her jackets. She also pointed at the ring and said, that's my husband when he scored. It was his first touchdown since like week three of last year. There's not much to say about this game. The 49ers are really good.

What's next? And finally, in Thursday Night Football Action, the Bills opened their new $2.1 billion stadium and beat the Lions 41 to 31, Josh Allen had five touchdowns, three in the air, two on the ground, and the Lions defense gave up 446 total yards. They're pretty banged up. But Detroit now, oh, and two.

Yeah, that was really never a game. I mean, that was really never a game. It was over early. Dionne Walker, by the way, has the highest player rating of any of a defensive lineman in the NFL through the first two weeks, which is pretty impressive. My only thought about Dean Walker is I don't understand why these players don't get jerseys that fit over their belly. Why?

I think they like it. Why do really fat defensive linemen not want to cover their belly? I mean, I'm not really fat, but sometimes if I've eaten too much, I'll have a little bit of a belly, and I'm like neurotic about one to hide it. These men, the fatter they are,

the shorter the shirt they want, and the more belly flab they want hanging out. Yeah, and I like when they're resting between plays. It's almost like they're pushing it out. You know, they're arching their back and making sure you're seeing all that exposed belly that you can see. They don't care.

No, not at all. I assume they make jerseys big enough to cover it. If they wanted those bellies covered, they would easily get covered. But I guess it's part of the brand. People are loving Dion. Some of them wear the cutoff with a white t-shirt under it, which just looks sloppy, where the white t-shirt covers the belly, but the jersey doesn't. It just feels like this is something we should address.

I mean, they get mad. They get mad in the NBA. if guys wear the shorts too short or whatever. Untuck the jersey. In the NFL, they're just like, yeah, let that flab stick out of there. I think it's just part of the brand. If you're nose like that, your job is to take up space and you just want to show off.

Look, I've been working hard on this gut. I want you to see it. Can I ask you one question about this game? What is the appeal to people of Ryan Fitzpatrick taking his shirt off? I don't know. Because I watched the, I was. board and I couldn't sleep. So I watched the Amazon postgame show of this game. And the entire postgame show, literally the entire hour of it, seemed to just be an elaborate setup to get Ryan Fitzpatrick

to take his shirt off. They, I mean, like, the crowd was chanting it. The announcers were talking about it. Then they brought Josh Allen and essentially Clarissa Thompson had to tell everyone to stop because they would get there in a minute. And then at the very end, he takes his shirt, off and it was like it was the final scene of the Sopranos. People were so excited. Why? He's not even, like he's not even fat. Like, he's in good shape.

Like, what's the point? He's got that nice sweater look. You know, it's not too much chest hair. Like, he's got, I've got the same amount of chest hair. And the beard. When I go places, people are not chanting for me to take my shirt off. I don't know. For some reason, people embrace it with him.

Others do it, you know, Maccafee does it. Kelsey does a little bit. Fitzpatrick's been doing it from the beginning, and I guess that's why people just embrace it. He'll do it in Lambeau and it's the coldest. But I don't understand why. Like, I get, okay, if it's in Lambo and it's minus 17, okay, I get it, right? If someone's really fat, okay, I get it. If someone has, like, shaved a picture of their woman into their chest hair, I get it.

But he's just a normal-looking man. Why? So what is it that's so? great about it. I don't know. I would prefer that he left it on, but I guess it's just he's, everybody likes him because at one point he played for their team. Everybody has it right. He was a titan free gear. Everybody has a Fitzpatrick memory. I guess they're just rooting him on. If I were Fitzpatrick, I would be like, hey guys, they paid me to sit here and talk about the game and you are just like, don't shut up, take your shirt off. When he talks to the crowd,

the only chance for him to take his shirt off. Like they don't, he might be a road scholar. I don't know. He went to Harvard. You hear him. Huh? He went to Harvard. Exactly. And I mean, imagine you spend all that money at Harvard. And then everybody, like you, they don't, we don't do this in other walks of life.

Like, somebody's up there, like, you know, give it a lecture on physics and they don't just go, shut up. Take you shirt off. They do for Ryan Fitzpatrick. I bet he has really good things to say otherwise. We just, we don't give him time to say it. I never listened to anything he said. Now that you mentioned, he went to Harvard. He knows the inside of every organization in the NFL.

This guy should have all of the knowledge. Shut up and take your shirt off. That would be harassment in many cultures. Anyway. All right. The touchdown. Who got the touchdown? Lamar did not score for you, Matt, and Sequin did not score for Drew.

But Mecca Abuka did score for me. Sequin got hurt right away. Yeah, he did. He got hurt early. So it's what, 1-1-1? That's correct. And for the Survivor, Drew lost with the Bucks. So I win with the 49ers. In week two.

Week two, I won. I thought I was the Ravens, which would still be a loss. Tough week for Survivor pools everywhere. There were three touchdown favorites and all three lost. Yeah, so Survivor pools are gone, including this one. Billy wins for the second straight here. Yeah, I'll keep going.
