well what is this welcome to the lady gang that's amazing say that again the lady gang
things are about to change around here each week we catch up with hollywood's hottest girl posse
kelty knight becca tobin and jack vanik hello hello hello welcome to the lady gang i am becca
tobin here with jack vanik and kelty knight this is so exciting today i know that you're
all a Twitter, all a flutter, all a quiver. I'm sorry. But by the way, I didn't even know
that this episode was being recorded until five minutes ago. So I didn't get to look
cute for this. I don't have my outfit on. No, I didn't know either. Just a few days ago,
I was talking to our guest and Cheryl Burke, and they had sent this really nice video for our 100
million party. And I was like, Hey, and they were kind of asking for podcast advice. And I was like,
well, you should come on the podcast again or whatever. And I, I just randomly texted Cheryl
and I was like, Hey, do you guys want to do the podcast this week? Like, let me know. We have
some openings and literally didn't hear from her. She did not respond. And I just got a text from
AJ being like, Hey, can I hop on in 10? I'm like, well, I need to mentally prepare. I should have
been listening to the Backstreet Boys all day long. Like I needed to hype myself up right now.
I don't have it on my parents' house. I slept in it last night. I'm so sad. I sleep in it many
nights a week. It's not that soft. It's weird that you sleep in that. I guess it is. It's soft
with AJ's touch. Oh, Jesus. Oh, Lord. Okay. Don't say, oh, Lord, Kelty, like you don't agree. I
know. Well, now it's time for good week. Yes, it is. Bad week. Oh, no. Okay. I can go. I had
an online hacking. Oh, it's been a while since I had been hacked in any way. Like a social media
hack or a bank? No, it's a banking hack. So I got hacked on PayPal and they changed everything to,
I believe Japanese. And, um, it was very beautiful. Um, and it was so weird because
they, everything changed to Japanese. So I want to click on the, like, please send a new password
thing, but I couldn't get it to click because I had to enter like a code, but the code wouldn't
enter. And anyway, it took a very long time, like an entire week. And they did a really good job.
But if you're trying to hack me now, I've changed all my passwords. So
won't be hacked again. But do you still have it all in your cell phone?
Yeah. I feel like everybody does at this point. I don't do that. How are you going to remember?
Oh, I have like, I don't usually remember them. Yeah. You change it every time. Yeah. I have a
whole password keeper and it's just a lot of information. I'm sorry. I have a good week.
Good week. I have a new word for the lady gang dictionary and it was given to me by someone on
a DM on Instagram and they said, I have a word for lady gang dictionary. And I was like, okay,
but we got told not to use the words as our good week bad because they want to hear about our
lives, but I just have to use it. Dictate. D-I-C-K-T-A-T-E. Okay. I hate it. I'll use it
in a sentence. I hate it when someone tries to dictate what I do with my life. I like that.
He's dictating what I should, like a dictator. Like a man. A man is telling you what to do.
They're dictating you. Yeah. Like, why are you dictating what, how I should be cleaning this
counter right now? What was the word that I, it was, we had a full episode named after it.
What was the one that I came up with on the fly the other day?
Oh, it was like he man, man, something.
Mandled it.
Mandled it.
Mandled it.
Mandled it so good.
It's a good one.
Now we have to write another book because we have an entire new dictionary.
That's how I feel about writing a new book.
I want to go, I'm going to go next because my good week is a word.
It's not a word for the dictionary, but it's a word that I just discovered.
And it started off from a DM from Becca.
and we're, we're talking about some specific person out there that kind of grinds our gears
a little bit. And I had sent her an article about said person. Was it me? You wish. I have many
articles. Well, it was an entire Reddit thread. So I don't think so. And in the end, one time I
did a Reddit, ask me anything like as a publicity thing. And I got like two questions. I was like,
I'm an entertainment reporter. Ask me anything. And I was expecting people to like, tell me about
Brad Pitt's face. Like no one asked me anything. It was so embarrassing. I kind of remember that
happening. Okay. So anyways, uh, we were like kind of writing back and forth about it. And
Becca was like, Oh my God. And it's so funny about the Beck B E C. And I was like, what is this? And
then I looked it up. Have you guys heard of this? Well, Becca's heard of it. Have you heard of this
word Kelty or acronym? I learned it from the Reddit. Oh, you did? Yes. I didn't see this.
It's okay. So it's stands for bitch eating crackers. And it's when somebody annoys you
so much that even when they eat crackers, they annoy the fuck out of you. And I, one of the most
annoying things that people could ever do around you. I hate to hear someone chew. Do you have that
fear, that phobia thing that like when somebody's a phonia? Yeah. Okay. So my bad week, and this
comes from a couple of weeks ago, so a little bit of a delayed bad week, but I had posted this
picture wearing the Becca suit jacket, the white one from our express line with like no pants or
a shirt underneath it. And it was very Jack of me to do. And I got a comment on my post that I've
gotten a few times on posts that I am not wearing any pants. And it's this, I want to start off by
saying that your knees are beautiful, but I do see a face of a small baby on your right. I saw that
baby. I saw the baby. Like they're talking about, this is probably the fifth comment that I've
gotten on a photo saying that I have a baby's face in my knee and I don't know what's going on.
is this a normal thing to happen? I need to look at the photo. Yeah. I've, I saw it though. I saw
someone post that. And then I went and zoomed in and I was like, there is a baby face. I think
it's just like, there's a man in the moon, Jack. Like this is, this is what your knee is. And at
least it's not an ugly baby. It's a cute baby. At least it's not like an old man. At least a baby
is a nice snail or I saw a snake in your knee. Like it's like, I don't understand the baby.
are you on the right picture i don't see the right picture i feel like maybe it's like a baby
in like uh ultrasound well since this is a podcast and people can't see anything i guess um go back
to my pic and let me know if you see a baby's face yes comment on the picture it's on no i need
your reaction becca it's the third photo third photo the back darker knee that's not a baby
looking at you, peeking out from on a baby like this? No. Oh, fuck me. You see it. You see it.
Sorry, Orly. This is a shit show of an episode. We're just doing our best. The Lady Gang,
sometimes it's a dumpster fire. The Lady Gang does their best. The Lady Gang does their best,
which is this episode. Orly has shut the fuck up. Good week, bad week, Becca.
My good week.
Actually, it's actually quite perfect for what just happened.
Zach has agreed that we can get another dog when I come home from Canada.
Oh, my God.
What are you going to get?
I don't know, but I'm really excited.
I am fucking excited.
You're going to get another dog?
Oh, my God.
I'm so excited.
Can you get a King Charles Spaniel?
That's what I wanted to get, and then I rescued Callie.
I think we're supposed to rescue.
I know, but you know, pup.
Wagmore.
Wigmore Pups has, my friend Kelsey is literally fostering six mini baby pits,
pit little Labrador mixes that are like six weeks old. I'm going to see them tomorrow. She said
she'll put them out on the front lawn and I can have one hour with six puppies. It'll be on my
Instagram. Cute. I'm so excited for Orly's best friend. I know. That is very exciting. Okay.
my bad week I have fallen down the rabbit hole of or Alice in Wonderland or I don't know what
the correct way to phrase it is yeah but today I finished my entire upper body IPL and I was
sitting there taking inventory on all the shit that I've done to my face and body in the last
COVID moment, it's time to stop. Is it? Really? There's literally no end in sight. I'm laying
there thinking, what other laser can I do next time I come? And what else can I do? And it's just
like, it bums me out. Because in the beginning of COVID, it was like, you don't get your hair done.
You don't get your nails done. You don't get your Botox. And everybody's like happy and fine. And
now I'm like, now you're back. You're back at it. Well, the issue is that we let it go. We let it
go so far out of control than to pull it back in. It just seems double. It requires a lot of
extra maintenance. See, I haven't done any of that yet. So I'm about to spend a lot of money
coming up. You're going to reemerge as a butterfly. I will reemerge. A spray tanned
butterfly. It's just like, look, I mean, look at my chest. I wish that this was actually.
No, it's so ugly. She does a great IPO. I mean, you can't tell on Zoom. It's bright red. Yeah,
it's so gross, but it's going to look so good after. And you know what? This is what you have
to do. You're about to be on a big hit TV show. You got to have a nice young chest. Get that
chest, young girl. That is a real thing though. Your chest, you start to see. And I've never
looked at my chest before. I mean. Right. Well, I have something that'll cheer you up. Our friend
AJ has quickly finished Dancing with the Stars rehearsal and he's calling us for a check-in
and we're very excited. That's next. Now back to the Lady Gang. Everybody. Yeah.
Hello. Hello, ladies. AJ. Reunited. Did you just finish the rehearsal? Yes. Did you miss me, girls?
We miss you every day. AJ, I don't have an introduction prepared for you, but I'll just
say this aj is our favorite lady gang guest of all time we just highlighted our entire five years
as the lady gang and the only mention that was given was our backstreet boys concert moment of
2019 before the world went to hell but 2020 has only been saved by one thing which is aj's on
dancing with the stars and he's crushing and we're so happy for him we get to see him in all kinds of
sparkly outfits not shirtless yet but that's okay because he's safe this week we're gonna get a
sexual rumba soon please welcome back to the lady gang aj hello ladies yes i'm actually working on
the samba right now a lot of hip action a lot of sexy sexy time uh it's gonna be it's gonna be a
really fun dance i'm really hoping uh well actually cheryl and i both are really hoping that this is
our breakout dance that we we finally get a couple nines in this uh score but so not up to me
well yes it is up to me actually i i guess i just have to do my routine do your part the issue i'm
having aj with you competing this season is there's not enough of your personal best steps
in the choreography like that's why i was like cheryl what the like there's not a hip thrust
to be found look between the samba yeah and what i know of the rumba there will be more of the kind
sexual intimate yes pelvis the pelvis the pelvis because when we saw you when we saw you in las
vegas at the baxter boys residency you would throw like a frontal thrust and it hit us and
we were like in the 17th row and that's what america needs aj we are we are still talking
about what your hip thrusts have done to me and kelsey and it is almost been a year yes we're
still feeling like the residualness of the hip thrust hats off to myself then i obviously i i've
still i've still got it apparently you do oh yeah so how has it been so far because um we are friends
with a lot of people this season so it's been very difficult because we know caitlyn we have
we know chrishell we know jesse who just got kicked off which i was not expecting but like
how has it been has it been what you thought it would be um you know what it's it's been
interesting. I'll say that. You know, when I talked to Nick eight, nine weeks ago, when we
started the preliminary rehearsals before opening night, you know, I asked Nick, I said, can you
give me some advice? He's like, you just got to kind of go with it, bro. I mean, there's really
no more I could tell you because every pro teaches different. Every pro is different. The one thing I
will say that's been the biggest challenge for me is, and you know, Cheryl would, I guarantee you
would also agree is a lot of the female contestants the female celebs that have male pro dancers those
guys they know how to lead like they know what they're doing i've never had to lead a woman in
my life even at my wedding it was like you were wearing the dress oh yeah of course i was wearing
a dress but it was like it but my wife and i's first dance was like an eighth grade dance it was
like just step touch step touch awkward awkward right so you know that's been the biggest challenge
for me this entire time is just keeping a frame, keeping a strong frame and being able to kind of
manhandle Cheryl in a leading man kind of way. But I will say the self-exploration side of this
whole process has been amazing. I've learned so much more about myself. I've got over 10 months
sober now and it's just been a whole new way of thinking for me now. Everything like the thought
of a drink or a drug is not even a thought anymore. Like I, there's literally no, no rhyme
or reason and no good excuse. I'm in the best shape of my life. I'm, I'm literally still losing
weight. Cheryl's not so happy about that. Um, cause I'm, I'm like wasting away and she's like,
now I look like this. I'm like, Oh my God. I'm, I'm literally eating probably about 60% of my
diet is good and the other 40 is all shit but you you gotta be at least burning 2500 calories
every freaking totally every single day right yeah so you know i like the self-exploration part
of it and and i think it's really cool that you and cheryl she had told me like if i go back to
dancing for the stars like i gotta have aj like i i just like we're kindred spirits and then you
guys started the podcast, which is, you know, it's really, really cool, um, for you to come
together and be able to like, even dive more into that, but you're a very busy guy. And like,
at some point, you know, the world's going to open up and you're going to be touring the world.
Like podcast isn't, is going to be really, really hard, but what drew you to like wanting to start
a show? Um, so it's an interesting story. The long and short of it is, um, my mentor for 20
years and my best friend renee alessandro who's also one of the co-hosts on pretty messed up um
you know him and i had reached out to iheart to do a podcast called circle the wagons which is what
my my everyday aa zoom meeting that i have done for the last 10 months we literally do it every
day at 4 30 and the phrase circle the wagons is kind of referring to back in the old west
when a threat was coming all of the carriages would circle up as like a barrier to protect
the women and children so circle the wagons represents us in recovery always trying to
always protect each other so that was the initial idea and then cheryl at the same time was also
working on doing her own podcast so shortly after the show got started and i heart found out that
Cheryl and I were partners, they, they were like, this is freaking genius. Let's get all three of
you together. And we went back and forth with different titles and all three of us, I mean,
look, everybody's pretty messed up in their own way. It doesn't matter who you are. It's all a
matter of, did you come out the other side and how do you get there? And it's different for
everybody. And this whole podcast is just about experience, strength, and hope talking about
recovery talking about whatever but just living life on life's terms you know because everybody's
worst critic is themselves everybody's always in their head and if you let this voice run your life
you're you got to follow your heart and just put one foot in front of the other and that's that's
how i've been doing everything that's how cheryl does her life and that's how renee does his life
so well i love this and then i also want to bring this up so you know the other day thank you so
much for the cute video for our hundred million party which was thank you our girls loved seeing
you it was so sweet and when I had reached out to you guys you literally were like I'm sorry I like
just had a huge breakdown and like I'm just having a day and so even though you're having a day of
positivity today I know that the self-exploration and especially being on Dancing with the Stars
like it does it's really freaking hard and it really breaks people um what do you think has
been the part that's broken you and made you think have a hard time I think for me um it was me at
the end of the day um you know I the one thing Cheryl has always asked me to do is to embrace
the process um and for me to separate what I've known for 30 years coming into something I know
nothing about and trusting someone that I don't really know um and learning learning dances I've
never done in my life, it's a difficult process to just let go. So when I fight the process and I
fight Cheryl's teaching style because of what I'm used to, I'm getting in my own way. Then I get
stressed out. Then I get overwhelmed. Then I get in my head. Then I think, oh crap, I'm not going
to do good. Oh, my scores. Oh, this. I mean, look, coming into this whole thing, the pressure was
already put on me. But you're the favorite to win. Yeah, for sure. Like a hundred percent.
But see, like, even that, that was said to me, like, before we started rehearsals, that was said to me in interviews beforehand, that was said, by production, AJ, you're a front runner. It's like, why would you say that to me before I even start rehearsal?
and it right from the first day of rehearsal I had this preconceived idea of pressure
that outside people put on not intentionally and I took it on and I manifested it this entire time
up until last week when I finally I personally hit a breaking point with myself and Cheryl was
there to help pick me back up um you know because she's seen this happen with people before on the
show and she is she's been my rock through this whole thing and if we if we weren't friends
outside of the ballroom and outside of rehearsal i don't think we'd have the relationship that we
have you know what i mean like that's the kind of person i am like i don't like with my band yeah
we all are co-workers so to speak but then we all hang out on days off we go golfing we go to the
movies we go to dinner whatever it is if there was no relationship like that outside of the ballroom
with cheryl this would not work i guarantee you like we are friends outside of this and we've
helped each other grow so much in the last two months i can't believe it's been two months it's
so crazy. Also you guys schedule is, I don't think people realize that you are eat, sleeping,
breathing. Like this is intense. Yeah. Like, you know, from, from my wife to say how much she
misses me. Not that she doesn't want to tour in Asia. Yeah. Yeah. But like the fact that she's
so close, hold on, hold on. Somebody's, somebody's peeking her head in cause she can't help herself.
Cheryl? Hi, Cheryl.
Hi.
Hi. How are you?
Congrats on another week.
Thanks. We have to get all your
peeps to vote for us. Yes.
Hell yeah. That's what this is for. All
100 million. All 100 million.
Just a chill 100 million votes.
It's fine. And then we'll have our
five followers on our podcast vote for
us. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly.
Our five downloads. That's not true.
Enjoy it. We love you, Cheryl.
you're listening to the lady gang i wanted to ask you you know i i think it's actually really
interesting so you know you had said to us before that you know when you were a kid you were like a
song and dance kid like you're taking dance class and all this stuff and i think your issue is that
you are naturally really talented like i think that you have the best you your voice is pretty
effortless like you've been a really good singer your whole life like of course you've expanded
but like whatever right and like you're obviously the best dancer in the Backstreet Boys like I
think are you the dance captain is there a dance captain no better dancer in the Backstreet Boys
so I think this is the first time that you're having to do something that you're not naturally
like really really good I mean you're really good but not like that you're like struggling with and
have to try no but I mean yeah because I think Backstreet Boys easy for you well I mean it's
it's what I've known for almost 30 years and you know sing dancing hip-hop jazz all that shit
that's what I do so you know coming into this with literally no expectations except
everybody's expectations of you everyone's yes exactly everyone else's expectations of me and
then as the show is progressing I've got to start to not put pressure on myself and not get
competitive that's where people make mistakes from what I've seen on the show in past shows
is people that get too competitive they start to lose sight of why they're doing this
and you know dance is obviously the epicenter of the show but it's really not what this show
is about that's what i've learned now is this show is about growing and about becoming a better
person a better performer a better actor actress whatever you are a better politician i don't even
know but like it's really about the individual kind of that self-exploration like i was talking
about the dance is is is just because look nobody's gonna be perfect on this show although
there have been contestants that they just they just get it you know what i mean like there are
people that just get it like you look at someone like neve shulman he's got great frame he's got
great lines like he looks like a ballroom dancer but you have someone like me who does hip-hop
so you know i'm used to keeping everything a little bit tighter my shoulders rolled over
now everything's got to be back and my chest has to be up my nipples to the ceiling and it's like
what the hell is this but I am so proud of what I've learned thus far because not only can I take
this into future dance with the fellas but what I'm learning about myself and the relationship
I have with Cheryl is like it's literally like I like I've been reborn it's and and then being
sober through all this that's the number one thing for me i've already won i whether i win
the mirror ball or not doesn't matter to be honest i've already won by doing this show sober because
man if i wasn't i either would have dipped out already or i would have like my scores would
have been absolute shit from day one you know like i because i just wouldn't be i just wouldn't care
but i do care a lot and so does cheryl we're very passionate a lot we the lady the lady
cares a whole lot oh yeah now since you are in prime aj shape will you be going shirtless
there there now let's get to the serious topics when can we expect it to shirtless you on the show
um if if it happens yeah uh it would probably happen maybe during salsa and or rumba yeah
if we get that part well the rumba is a very very sexual very intimate romanticized
performance like that's what it's supposed to be so yeah there might be some spray tan and some
trimming down there on the old uh chesticle hair uh before that nev's like nev i've i've been
or neve neve i've been um i've been really really had to think about that chest to chest hair he's
owning it he's owning it and i love every guy everybody is different and fine it's not my
preference no but like literally it shocked everybody because when he came out for i think
it was argentine tango week three and everybody was like whoa like i thought it was fake i thought
he put it on oh my god could you imagine i didn't know nobody knew like wow dude that's all you and
it became like a thing for like the next two weeks yeah i mean you know hey everybody's got
their got their thing that's his thing um aj did you know that when you were on lady gang tv you
were the highest rated episode of all of our episodes i did not know that um thank you that's
true yeah uh i cannot wait to come back on um literally well we got also so also i just want
to let you know that if you do need to get your spray tan on, Jack has become a very, very great
at home tanner. If you don't, he'll do a house call just for you. I'm great at it. I'm basically
a professional and you know what? I'll give you a free one. You don't even have to pay me.
You know, and I don't want to be like a special lady gang special. Okay.
that's not a it's not a not a good look like before i got married we had like half the bridal
party uh all got spray tanned and there's a photo of myself and my best friend and my wife and i's
closest gay friend mark um who i actually married him and his husband i got ordained and all that
stuff but yeah uh there is a hilarious photo of all of us and like we all looked really dark and
nice and like islandy but then my wedding photos i look like this because my wife is so fair
fair skinned yeah oh my god it's bad that's what happens when we go on the lady gang tour
all the photos i'm just like lily white between these two oompa loompas and i'm like you guys
i won't stop the spray tan or not it gives me too much confidence i love a spray tan yeah it's
the only happiness i have left one of the worst parts about it though is if you do it and they
put me in a light colored shirt it's gonna bleed through yeah during dance and that's not cute
no i'm glad that you know that bleeding yeah oh and of course no oh yeah he knows
i ruined half our wardrobe on the beginning of the dna tour because i just got gray tan and the
whole white outfit i had like literally both both look one and look two destroyed yeah so we had to
like re remake them yeah it was bad when are you guys going back on tour and which city should we
come to or should we come on the whole tour so sad we need our own bus we should follow their
tour around with our tour van and we'll just follow you and do you need us to open yeah do
you need an opener that's like a funny sort of like i would love nothing more uh we are we are
talking about um you know hopefully next summer yeah it's obviously it's up in the air we know
it's really hard to guesstimate but that's the plan okay is to do our second us run next summer
great us is exactly what we wanted to do too this is just text us the dates and we'll just
dates we'll follow i'll even wash your white outfit every night for you or hand wash even if
even if you don't allow us to tour we can just play the bar next door and say we're opening that's
fine that's fine well before that happens i will be releasing hopefully while i'm on the show right
now i'm in i'm actually back in the studio working on my first ever solo project so i will be
releasing music while i'm on the show that's my plan and then hopefully doing some some kind of
either i could do a live performance on y'all show we could do whatever like yeah yes wait
i heard a rumor that you were gonna go back to pop i am i have country is out the door
i have gone back to like pop funk soul r&b yeah me yeah you that's what we want sexual
can't wait yes way more way more way more comfortable for me than you know yeah and
more hip thrusts more opportunities for body rolls and hip thrusts
yes a lot more open shirts if there's any shirts right a drop we don't need a shirt sweat pant a
nice like that's how we like you so thanks well what's asking of course what's interesting is
ever since Cheryl and I started doing the clothing swap, uh, TikTok videos, it's kind of sparked this
thing for me that I want to start doing a clothing line that is kind of androgynous in a sense of
where girls can wear it and still feel feminine, but there's a masculinist to it and vice versa.
Like there might be jeans that have a skirt that go across and stuff like that. You know,
like I really, cause I'm, I'm really comfortable in my own skin. So like I, I, I could put a dress
on and i feel still like a freaking man um and i want to kind of also show that to my to my girls
like yeah you can be confident whoever you are as long as you're confident and you love yourself
and you're confident in your own skin it doesn't matter if you're a guy that wears a dress or a
chick that wears a suit it doesn't mean anything you know what i mean like as long as you own it
own it so i love that well i know you have to go but i mean you have you've been rehearsing all day
but i do want to tell you one thing so as we've been watching you and dancing with the stars
especially this week the waltz i couldn't help but think about your daughters because i was like
oh my god age is gonna be such a good dad when they get married and you have to do the dance
with them at the wedding oh you were like the blue tux and it was supposed to be like prom or
whatever but i was like oh my god like those girls are probably like just truly gaggling over
watching you on tv like a disney prince like both my girls are also dancers just like my oldest
competitive dance my youngest is following her big sister so and my oldest just started taking
