It's time for a quickie.
Podcast One presents The Lady Gang, The Hollywood Girl Posse with Lady Gang Quickie.
Here's Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek.
Let's make this quick.
Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to The Lady Gang Quickie.
Obviously, this is Jack.
It's not Becca.
I know it's a little bit weird for you.
But I wanted to welcome you to the best of Good Week, Bad Week, part two.
Like Kelty said in part one, maybe you're a new listener.
Maybe you don't really know the lore of Lady Gang.
There's so much stuff that has happened over the past decade to us.
The good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between.
So we wanted to kind of refresh you with all of the good weeks and the bad weeks.
Enjoy.
My good week actually happened at Hooters.
We're sitting there and it's like late at night, probably 11, 1130.
A lot of kids in there.
Very questionable.
yeah we're in place for a kid to be honest so many kids oh i guess it was saturday no idea
no idea dallas likes their kids like to party but we're in the hooters it's me caitlin jack
and kelsey it was so fun if turns out we need caitlin to infuse fun into our lives because
we're so sick of each other that we need like a new it's like bringing in a yeah a person in
your thruple you know like bringing in new energy yeah yeah in the bedroom so caitlin's our swinger
yep and so we're at hooters and we're feeling really festive because it was a great show we're
toward the end like it's a good vibe yeah well we're sitting there and there's tvs everywhere
and all of a sudden entertainment tonight weekend show comes on and kelty is you know laser focused
and then that in turn we become laser focused we start watching entertainment tonight weekend show
and there's a giant table of like middle-aged like 20 people 20 people below the television
and we're just watching watching watching and it's suddenly an outburst from kelty she screams
it's me and points at the tv so then all 20 people below the tv look up look at her look up look at
her and i guess they showed you from like a previous interview yeah it was like a brad pitt
yeah like five years ago yeah yeah and so they're like confused and you're like i'm on tv i'm on tv
like you would think that it was the first time you've ever graced a television it was pretty
insane it was so crazy and then at the end everybody's like looking and the segment ends and
she goes thank you very much
and then she proceeded to do some sort of almost a strip tease coming down the stairs that i did
post on instagram so i hope you saw it um in a oh in a baggy sweat pant a tour t-shirt a hair
and a clip a claw yeah and like grandma walmart sandals like a ripoff birkenstock yeah but like
the from walmart yeah yeah yeah and those people were also watching you do that and they're like
wow this is weird this is really taking a turn it was so fun though even the reason that i got
so psyched about it is i know this sounds so stupid but i hosted entertainment tonight weekend
for three years i never saw it on it comes on at where it was midnight 11 it comes on at weird
times in weird cities and like it was my it was my main host i was a correspondent on the regular
ET but ET weekend I was a host of and so like but I never saw it and so this was a you know wow
what a moment treat and you know what it still doesn't matter it's still so unimportant that
no one at the table is like oh yeah I've seen you for 10 no one was I don't know her it was
I don't know her moment great I thought it was great it was a good moment for me
so my good week is I have a new word uh but it really has to do with us so it's perfect okay
they um so there's you know how there's like the webster dictionary thing that's like the word of
the year yeah they do the color of the year and then they do like the yeah they're like chartreuse
yeah okay so the word of the year came out for 2022 and i love it it's perma crisis okay it's
the word of the year it means an extended period of instability and insecurity wow i mean that is
your life yes i'm like perma crisis they were they were talking about how 2022 just like
gave you hit after hit of like recession covid job loss war i mean like you know i feel like it
always does but i think with social media now you see it all the time anyway perma crisis is the
word of the year so i love that use it as you can my good week and it's i totally forgot to talk
about it but was this is months ago that this happened but uh my trip to salem was probably
one of the best trips that i've ever been on and i am not a person that likes to go look at
monuments and like i don't like to do the touristy things but i was just balls deep into the salem
wish trial like i was seeing ever i was learning i was visiting i was i was doing tours of museums
And it truly was, like, one of the best and most informative trips that I've ever been on.
But my good week out of it is I have never been recognized more than in Salem, Massachusetts.
And witches love Jack Vanek.
Wow.
All the emos were out.
And it was kind of all, like, emo girls, too.
Like, there was definitely a vibe that was happening.
So this was in October.
But it was so nice to meet all of my fellow emos in Salem.
wow incredible it was very on brand for me um but it was a shit show my good week is i know you all
are wondering about karen goes to college yeah i am my series of becca at middle age going back
to college to complete her one class that she missed many years ago i am officially enrolled
i think i earned a credit just from that process of how unorganized and insane oh it's still going
on i'm still trying to apply my merit scholarship to my tuition fees you know nothing is easy um
but i am enrolled and i have started my class and the class that i'm taking this semester is called
introduction for writing to writing for screen oh cool wait can you turn lady secrets into a tv show
well that's a great question i'm not sure because we see the lady secrets book as being more of an
anthology type series so that might be hard concept wise anyways so now i'm having to do
things that i thought i would really hate but i'm actually loving so my my um assignment this week
is i have to watch whiplash the movie the award-winning movie miles teller from a couple
years ago it was based off of a short a short movie a short is what they call it in the biz
so i have to watch the short watch the movie and read a bunch of notes and read the script for
for the original whiplash script and guys i have found something that interests me
and it is it's great i mean it's not as torturous granted i'm week one so stay tuned
but i was sitting there last night and i was like you know i don't hate this i don't hate this
I love it. Cause it's like kind of, well, it's kind of like just going back to college as an
adult. It's like, you actually want to learn. Yeah. Like it's not like you're dragging your
feet through the whole thing and you're doing something interesting and creative. Like I want
to do it. It was crazy to read the original script of what whiplash was and see what they did on
screen. And basically I think I've cracked the code to make an award-winning film. You basically
have no dialogue whatsoever oh they cut so many scenes so many lines and i'm like
you just they just kept what was necessary you know it's just my hands bleeding yeah putting
it in the ice bucket it's all showing and not telling so you guys i'm already an incredible
screenwriter just call me aaron sorkin um thank you so much for karen goes to college
i can't wait to see what you got guys yes
the lady gang bad week um is that you know i have callie the rescue dog and she's been amazing how
many years have i had her like six years five six years now right she came to me trained from
wherever she was on the street and she's never had an accident in the house and now she's decided to
pee in my husband's office every single morning at 8 a.m i can't do anything to stop it i don't
know what's happening i got the oxidizer i got the stuff i'm giving her the treats like all of
a sudden and i think it's because we were gone on tour yep chris was gone she's been at the dog
sitter she's like you mom you're a terrible mother i'm gonna pee on your hardwood which is really
hard to get the smell out every day you okay who wants to go next she's mad at you she's a realtor
yeah well you could do that i know they're so they're malicious little bitches you could have
been a good person and brought your dog on tour like i did callie on tour orly was hard enough
and Orly's a good drop and good dog. That's true. That's true. My bad week is so stupid.
This is so stupid. This is classic being Kelty. Okay. This is the stupidest thing you're going
to hear all week long. Get ready. You guys know, I love my house and you know that I have a driveway
from hell. So you can't see my front door from the street. You have to drive up the driveway from
hell, which when you're living in a house is lovely. No one bothers me. I don't hear people
walking by. Like I feel very safe. I'm like the king of the castle, but now it's the holiday
season and I don't have a good door for a wreath. Put it on your gate. Why don't you have a big
wooden door? What are you talking about? And no one's going to see my wreath. Oh, you want people
to see it? I mean, it just doesn't like, it's not a good festive holiday. You can really dress up
that gate and the wall that goes up to your driveway yeah yeah you get some lights you could
probably write ho ho ho out of lights up your freaking wall you that's right and you can see
that whole your whole driveway from the road you could be super festive wonderful canvas for
i mean it's not it's not pinterest like where normally are like i don't know but i guess i
could get a wreath for the gate you're right there's so many beautiful wreaths these days
I know they really are so gorgie. I want to be festive and have the arch. Anyway.
Okay. My bad week. I ran my marathon. I know. Let's hear about the marathon. Half marathon.
Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Half. Um, and I didn't, I skimmed, I did a Kelty night and I knew that I
needed a very specific weekend to, to run this half marathon. Like things have just been so
crazy and I didn't want to push it off too much. So I needed the perfect amount of time to like
train which i think i did like three months but i wasn't like super intense like i gave myself
wiggle room i could have done it shorter but i just whatever long story short i it's called the
spectrum trail run and so i didn't realize that there's a whole offshoot of marathons and half
marathons and runs that are on trails this is way harder becca oh no did you not have your trail
shoes. Definitely didn't have trail shoes. It was way harder. And, but the good part of it was that
I was so focused on not twisting my ankle. Cause I'm not joking. There were three times that my
foot caught a branch and I, I tripped, I didn't fall down, but I tripped and I'm like, this is
how I break my face. So I was so focused on not killing myself on this run that I, the time went
by quicker than if I was just on a road run doing my normal, you know, it would get boring probably.
Yeah. So I up so bad. And when I got there, there were only like 20 people there because who chooses
to run through trails versus a road. Um, and there was this guy in front of me, he's probably in his
fifties and he's talking to somebody else. And he was like, Oh yeah. Like I got into trail running,
like with my ex-wife like she was really into it he was talking about it like it was this very like
niche thing and it is a very niche thing and it well I saw on Instagram people were like whoa you
did trails that's so much harder like after you posted your medal and I was like I don't think
she knew it was a trail I didn't at all and this is where I really faltered but I I'm now I have to
actually do a normal one to see the difference i'm sure they're and but it's it was like when
i got there there was no one there because also there's there's it was it's not like a big thing
it's a very like niche thing where people just like who like to run trails which is all of like
20 people in the austin area they don't have like their whole families with signs and shit
didn't have to like cheering them on for your number no it was so like pared down there was
one other guy who i think it was also his first big run everyone else they were normal they were
like every day they do this all the time yeah one guy and his wife was with him and she was the only
person at the finish line like standing there cheering and like taking pictures of him and i
was like so this is it this is this is the thing i've been training for for three months are you
happy about your time? Yeah. Tell us all the details. People can tell me that know more about
this, but I used my app on my phone that I've been, that does the mileage. And I got really
pissed because it was two big loops and a half marathon is 13.1 miles. So I finished the first
loop and I looked down at my app and it says that I ran seven miles. And I was like, well,
I have to do that all over again. So that's like a whole, pretty much a whole extra mile on top of
my half marathon, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it's a lot more. So when I finished,
when I finished, it said that I had run 14 point, like, I don't know, three miles. So I don't know,
people can probably tell me maybe the apps aren't perfect, but I also think because it's trail
running, that's also not a perfect science. So, um, my time was fine. I finished under three
hours, which was my goal. And I was like two hours and 40 minutes, but I'm telling you, I think I ran
14 miles versus 13. So I feel like my time should have been a little better than that, which is why
I'm actually in the process of trying to find like a regular half marathon to do like early next
year. Were you sweaty? No, it was freezing, freezing the morning that I got up to do this.
it warmed up as I went, but it was, it was so cold and I barely sweat because it was just
like, I even came home from it and I had taken off like all my clothes and I, but I was too tired.
My legs hurt so bad that I just threw on sweats. Yeah. And it was like three hours later and Zach
looks at me and he's like, there's something really weird that's happening right now. You
shower so much in your normal life. Like you'll shower if you've gone to the grocery store,
but you have yet to shower after running in the, in the woods for three hours.
I was like, I didn't sweat. So that was my bad week. So congratulations. That's like a huge
thing. I can't even imagine walking for three hours. So that is, that's insane. You got a medal.
I mean, everybody gets a medal. It's like everyone gets a trophy these days,
but whatever. It's still exciting. Yeah, you did it. That's like a huge accomplishment.
What did you do while you were running? Like just thinking, or were you listening to shit?
I listened to, um, one podcast, like one podcast episode. Um, I listened to a little bit of music
cause I was like, I need my Ben Platt to get me going. Like I was like this and because there
was no risk of blowing it out and running too fast. Cause there was just, I would have died
if I ran too fast. So it was actually kind of nice. Cause I could still listen. I listened
to way more music than i probably would have if i had done it on a road so right um but it was good
it was i had a playlist had some sean mendez in it oh what about some charlie pooh no charlie pooh
weirdly no charlie pooh his music missed opportunity do it for me maggie mad maggie
rogers i had a lot of her i love her anyways well congrats becca thanks guys we're all so
excited for you i won't be joining you my knees could take about five seconds of running and then
to give out yeah my knees that night were so like I've seen all these videos of people coming back
from marathons that like cannot walk like their partners have to like lift them up to go to the
bathroom after and I'm like this doesn't seem like it's good for your body like I don't know
not doctor but but I think it was good for your soul oh for sure it was I mean I talked about it
a lot just about like it it had I got the relationship back with my body that I had when
I was dancing. Yeah. Like I feel like a different relationship and I, I never thought I would feel
that way unless I was dancing. So it was kind of nice to feel that like physical challenge and like
be proud of my body, even though like I look at it in the mirror sometimes and I hate it. That's
how we are. We're human, but it's like a lot less loathing and more like, Oh, I'm pretty proud of
myself. Cause pretty soon I'm not going to be able to do anything. Cause my joints are so, but
my bad week is that we can't do our walk tale you guys why illegal to walk with an open can
and the only place we could do it is norway vegas oh
vegas oh yeah can you walk outside with vega in vegas yeah i think they have like an open
container oh okay well if any of our lady grand girls know of any cool places that aren't
oversaturated where there's happens to be open container non-open container so i'm sad about
that because i was diving into it it was on my list i bet we can figure something out like i
don't know how i hopefully it's not just on like the vegas strip but if you go out a little bit
i don't want to go i don't want to ask the lady gang to go to the suburbs of las vegas for our
we're gonna meet in henderson we can go to ryan ross's uh there's nothing wrong with it there
it just doesn't seem like it's like a hot spot you know yeah yeah yes you're correct
it's like not really fun because you're just climbing over like beads and yeah we need like
a huge private property like if somebody owns like a huge plot of land that we can make ourselves a
little trail on then we can do it thanks for listening the lady gang is produced by alex
