Starting point is 00:00:52 to speak to an advisor free of charge. BetMGM operates pursuant to an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. Carol Posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to the Lady Gang. I am Becca Tobin. Jack Vanek is to my right. Kelty Knight is across from me. She's got a real top knot happening with a pen through it. I used a Sharpie because I'm classy.
Starting point is 00:01:41 You're a classy lady. What are we all wearing today? Today I'm in a black turtleneck and some Adidas pants and a sweatshirt. Today I'm dressed up in leggings and a white tee and what's this, a teddy coat? Yeah, a teddy coat. A teddy trucker coat. Today, I'm wearing our sponsor, Figs. You know how in that sponsorship, I talk about the greatest hoodie?
Starting point is 00:02:02 I really like that it has these slits on the side. This is not an ad. They did not pay for this, but I do really love this hoodie. And I got these sweatpants for free when I took Elena to a thing. Great. And Elena and I are wearing the same outfit, so she doesn't have to say what she's wearing because we're twins today. Same.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Twinsies. Mine's cuter, though. Okay, so it's time for... Good week. Yes, it is. Bad week. Oh, no. Okay, I'm going to go first.
Starting point is 00:02:25 So I was at the airport and I had Orly with me and I was wearing this long duster jacket and I had a lot of crap with me in the bathroom. And does anybody else just hate going to the bathroom at the airport because you have all your junk and the stalls are so small. Like, where's my suitcase supposed to go when I'm in the freaking stall? So I'm kind of in a rush. Orly's like tugging, trying to go under the stall, like to visit everybody in the bathroom. So I finally just go to the bathroom.
Starting point is 00:02:51 I squat down, and I start peeing. I had to pee so badly. Well. Like, is the story done? I missed the entire toilet. Did you pee on your feet? I peed all over the floor. Not my feet.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Wait, but how long did it take you to notice that you weren't peeing in the toilet? Till the end. When I turned around to wipe, and I go, I'm either very hydrated, or I pissed on the floor. And I never have clear urine because I'm never hydrated. So I pissed all over the floor. And then what do you do? There's no supplies. I mean, bathroom or airport bathrooms are so dirty.
Starting point is 00:03:31 It's so gross. You just leave it with the rest of the piss on the ground. Okay. Well, there it goes. That was my bad week. Here's my good week. So it's very rare that your friends date people that you like, right? Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:45 It's pretty rare to have, like, your girlfriends be like, I fell in love with this guy. you're gonna love him and then you actually meet him and you're like no he's not amazing and he sucks well my friend is dating a guy who is awesome he's super awesome and we went on a couple's trip together recently and it was a really fun time but you know what's even better than that he's awesome he's the owner of an awesome clothing company which means i get a lot of awesome clothing and it's a free t-shirt it's amazing okay what is the clothing company it's called AYR yeah stands for all year round their stuff is legit I saw this on your Instagram yeah
Starting point is 00:04:21 Elena's shaking her head and Elena is the fashion pinnacle what kind of stuff do they have it's amazing stuff I'm gonna try but I really like it because the prices are reasonable for what you're getting even though you're getting it for free really awesome yeah if I had to buy it no I actually I will from now on be buying it because you can only get hooked up like once with your friend's boyfriend but it's just like you know when you get free stuff it usually sucks yeah i got these jeans they're magical anyways you should check it out ayr love new clothing okay okay good week i am extension free after two years of glowing glowing gluing sewing clipping in shit to my head i have no more extensions and your hair looks amazing and
Starting point is 00:05:05 How good does it feel to not have extensions on your head? It feels like life-changing. It's life-changing, and I'll tell you why. Because at night when you shower, you can actually wash your whole hair with whatever shampoo and conditioner you want. And you can brush your scalp. You can brush your scalp. That was the best part. It's amazing.
Starting point is 00:05:23 Bad week. So I'm in New York for work, and I was really busy the week that I went. And so I thought, I'm going to try to minimize what I take to New York. So instead of taking my full wallet, I just put my credit card, my work ID, and my driver's license in my little purse case, and off I went to New York. I get to New York, and all of a sudden I'm in a taxi about to get back to my hotel, and I try to pull out my credit card to pay for the taxi. The credit card is gone. I have an ID and my CBS ID. That's it.
Starting point is 00:05:52 So I'm like, what am I going to do? I was like, well, I know I put my credit card down when I signed into this hotel, so I go to the front desk. I'm like, just wait the cab here. I'm surprised he didn't beat me. I was like, just wait here. I'm going to go charge $40 on my room, and they'll give me the cash, and I'll come pay you. I go up to the front desk. Those assholes, they wouldn't do that.
Starting point is 00:06:08 Even if I had my ID, they were like, we don't charge things to the room for cash. And I was like, well, I'm in a pickle here. I lost my wallet. Assholes. So then I had to call my friend, Marcella, and I was like, Marcella, shout out to you. I called her. She lives all the way uptown. I was like, I'm in a cab.
Starting point is 00:06:23 I'm driving to you right now. Please go to the ATM. I need to borrow $100. I lost my credit card. And she's like, it's fine. I'll take out $500. dollars. You can borrow it for the week until you get back to LA. Fine. So then I'm on my way up there and I'm like, oh my God, I feel like such an idiot. What am I going to do? I'm still in New
Starting point is 00:06:37 York for a week. I have no money. I have no credit card. Like this is horrible. And so finally I was like, you know what? Let me just call like the last two places I went. And I called Pret-a-Mange and I was like, did you, a credit card was left there? And they were like, nope, sorry, no credit cards left here. So I went back to CBS. I searched my whole dressing room. I'm like, oh my God, my God. Then the guy manager calls me, a weird number comes through. I just pick it up. I'm like maybe a telemarketer might be Pret-a-mage this nice guy Shout out to Pret-a-mage he was like I found
Starting point is 00:07:03 Your card I had in my pocket the staff didn't know I wanted to keep it safe I walked over to there And he was like this happens all the time I left it in the chip machine Damn it anyway that's a nice Samaritan Though that was good yeah good for him Jack what's happening okay so my good week Is somebody in the lady gang Facebook
Starting point is 00:07:19 Group saw a flyer that looks like I made it And it's a barbecue for tall people and it says you must be six feet or taller to gain admittance and it's from a guy by the way it says i don't want to hear any complaints from you short pieces of shit human beings that are not invited to my barbecue it's my house and it's my meat so i gotta decide who comes to eat it and hang out with me i'm a very busy and important man so don't give me any of your bullshit elise do not bring your short five eight husband at this time no way you know once i had to interview
Starting point is 00:07:50 the tallest women in the world and they were like seven feet tall and i have a picture and it's amazing i was only their tiny leg yeah some guys are really into what they said there's like sexual fantasies of like there is it's called a gigantris fantasy of like only you would know that i know it from you're a gigantris you know who i know it from oh interesting yeah anyways okay bad week um i was recently in montreal and i met this french guy very very french spoke maybe 10 words of english i obviously do not speak french but he was super hot we like we're at the same bar together and we like locked eyes it was one of those that it's like that guy and he was like that girl yeah he ended up coming over to me and we're talking and kind of flirting even though we weren't
Starting point is 00:08:30 speaking the same language and then he goes to order a drink he orders a rum and coke which by the way is just so gross to begin with it's like old man's drink but like it was not an old man's drink because it was like a captain morgan and coke that's weird so it's like a 16 year old's drink then it's like the shit you steal from your parents yeah literally i haven't drank run since i was like 16 the bartender brings the drink and he gives it back because he wanted it without ice yeah so he wanted a warm rum and coke they don't ice their soft drinks rum and coke it's disgusting it's a travesty was that over or was the like fact that you don't speak the same language the deal breaker no then well we are trying to like make it work you know and uh but then he wouldn't
Starting point is 00:09:14 tell me his last name or what he did for work, and I finally got it out of him. I'm like, do you work for the government or something? He's like, yeah. So either he's a French spy or he's married. He's definitely married. I love that Jack's like, he's either a French spy, which is
Starting point is 00:09:30 like, what are the chances? They don't even need spies. 99.9% chance he's married. Whatever. I didn't like him anyways. I love that you left French spy on the table, though. I think he might be. People are not French spies. That doesn't exist.
Starting point is 00:09:46 A French spy? Let me live my fantasy that I may not have a guy. He's a French spy. I once dated a French Canadian from Montreal. He also turned out to be married. Nice. Thank you. Did you dump him?
Starting point is 00:09:56 Maybe it was the same one. Mine was from Paris, though. Oh, so you thought. So you thought. Yeah, right. Whatever. Okay. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:10:03 That was a great good week, bad week. It really was. We really pushed through. It's an even better week. Why? Because one of our faves is here. Yep. She's back.
Starting point is 00:10:10 She's amazing. Fix our ovaries and progesterones. Okay, what's going on? Now, here's the lady gang. Ladies and gentlemen, back by popular demand. Today, we welcome back one of our most popular guests ever. Hormone health expert and the founder of YourHormoneBalance.com with over 30 years experience in the field.
Starting point is 00:10:36 She's here to figure out what is really going on with your hormones that affects your sex drive, the effects of birth control, eating your way to hormone balance, weight gain, and much more. Please welcome back to the Lady Gang, our hormone guru, Candice Birch. Welcome back. Thank you for having me. We're so happy to have you back. Well, I'm happy to be back.
Starting point is 00:11:00 What a time, huh? I think I'm going to get overwhelmed with some questions. Oh, you will. Well, I hope I can answer them all. I think that we should say to all of our listeners that you were the second, if not first, most popular episode we've ever had. And we've had over 100 episodes. That's true. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:11:16 You're the most popular celebrity. Holy hormones. Holy hormones. No, but I think it's a testament to the fact that this is going on in all of our lives and we all feel wackadoodle and out of control. And and then like some of the questions really do show that when you go to your regular doctor, sometimes they don't even really understand how to test or like what to say to you. So before we start, if people hadn't met you on the first time you came on the podcast and they're maybe new to Lady Gang, talk a little bit about your training and why you got into this and explain sort of the help that you give women. Okay. So I have a master's degree in health education.
Starting point is 00:11:55 And so I was in publishing for a long time, doing a lot of writing. I lived in London. And I worked at a big publisher. And then I did a lot of writing for a major magazine called Witch Magazine, which is like our consumer reports. So I'm comparing things, et cetera. So I have a lot of experience in the health field in disease prevention. How do we stay healthy? Staying healthy.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Living longer. taking, forget lifespan, what about healthspan? You know, how long are we healthy? That's really key. So that's been my focus. And then when we moved back to the States, I was 48 years old. I had a six-year-old and a nine-year-old, and I started going into mood swings and hot flashes. So I'd have a hot flash every 20 minutes and a mood swing in between. And I remember one day looking at Ryan, who's here, who's now 28. And gorgeous. And hormonally balanced, of course.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Obviously. Her sister Jess also. And she was, you know, I could tell that she was afraid of me because I was having another meltdown. And I just looked at her eyes and I thought, this is nuts. I've got to do something. I've got to take matters. And here I was, a health educator.
Starting point is 00:13:08 I was drinking too much. You know when you're stressed and you do everything wrong, You don't take care of yourself in particular because you're, oh, I'm so stressed. I just have to have coffee in the suite. So I started reading this book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause. It talked about the fact that there is a test you can do to, I knew it was a hormonal thing. I did the test. I wrote the author of the book, John Lee, who was the guru of natural hormone balancing
Starting point is 00:13:37 in this country. He brought it to, put it on the map anyway. And I wrote to him and I said, I'm a health educator and I'm a hormone mess and I want to learn about this. I want to work on this. I want to focus on this. Can I sit at your knee? Can I learn from you? And he said, well, I'm retiring but there's a guru out there in Portland, Oregon where you live and he's got a big hormone testing lab.
Starting point is 00:14:00 So long story short, I ended up being the director of education at this very big, prestigious hormone testing laboratory that was, you know, cutting edge, testing hormones of mostly men and women in menopause. That was the demographic, men in male menopause, women in menopause. And so I did that for 15 years. So I've seen a lot of test reports and I've talked to a lot of women and men about what's going on with them. And, you know, it transformed my life just knowing there was a test that you could measure this stuff and correlate where your hormones are at a certain point in time with the symptoms you're experiencing. And that is a huge relief to people. Yeah. Because, you know, most people feel like, am I just all screwed up?
Starting point is 00:14:45 Or, you know, as I've said many times, people just get so used to a new normal, which is maybe that they're tired all the time or they're frazzled or they're irritable or they're impatient with the people they love most in all the world or they can't get rid of belly fat. All of these symptoms just become something to over. This is me. This is the new me. And it doesn't need to be. This is not a permanent situation. Right. So let's begin.
Starting point is 00:15:11 Yeah. Deep dive. We posted in the Facebook group that you were coming back. The ladies were thrilled. Rabid? Rabid. Rabid, darling. Ravenous.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Ravenous, darling. Okay, so first of all, the number one question, and I just summed it up. Let's talk about hormones and weight loss and how I know this is a big topic, but there were so many questions about it. I'm just going to let you deep dive. Okay. So hormones and weight loss, I have often said that the hormonal picture is the missing link. A lot of people say always, I always get this question, why didn't my doctor ever mention this? So there are two kinds of weight gain that you start to see. There's the estrogen-dominant kind of weight gain where you're not ovulating every cycle, and there are a lot of reasons for
Starting point is 00:15:58 that, which we can go into. So therefore, you're not making progesterone, which is the hormone that balances estrogen. So estrogen is the growth hormone. It makes cells grow, multiply, and divide. It is the hormone that grew our reproductive organs, our boobs, our curves. It grows the egg in the ovary. It grows that blood-rich lining of the uterus. It's all about growth. So that's why when you go on birth control, you get your boobs because your estrogen is up, right? Yes. And birth control raises estrogen levels, by the way. So estrogen becomes dominant relative to progesterone if you're not ovulating properly. And I always say young gals, especially who are into high intensity exercise or who are vegans or who are on birth control or under a lot of stress,
Starting point is 00:16:43 whatever it is, if you don't ovulate, you don't make progesterone, you become estrogen dominant. And estrogen dominant weight gain is the kind where, as I said, growth. Think heavy, heavy periods. Think bloating, weight gain before your period, water retention, tender breasts. I think I mentioned fear. There was somebody that wrote in about, I can't have my husband hug me. It hurts too much. These are hallmark symptoms of estrogen dominance. And the pattern of weight gain that goes along with that is weight gain in the hips, the thighs, and the bottom. And that's when you start to see this weight migrating into, that's kind of the female fat pattern distribution, what they call estrogen-dependent weight gain. And the other kind is to do with adrenal stress,
Starting point is 00:17:27 where the adrenals are stressed and they may be a lot of people say to me god i thought my adrenal levels would be really high my cortisol because my life is so high octane you know i'm going and often these levels are low and this is when the body's in its wisdom starts to say man she is stressed to the max you know this gal doesn't know when to stop and we're going to pack on a little extra belly fat we're going to pack on some fat especially in the belly it's a fat depot abdominal fat depot, a lot of fat cells in the abdomen, great storage for immediate accessible energy if you were in a stress response, a fight or flight response. The body doesn't know if you just had a death or a divorce or you just ate a bag of donuts. The response is all the same.
Starting point is 00:18:15 If you're under stress, your body wants you to eat. It wants you to fuel up. It's like the Jewish mother, Edie, your skin and bone, wants you to fuel up and store fat. So if you've got adrenal stress issues, you're going to be storing fat in the belly. And guess what? Your body's not going to let go of it. It likes to hang on to that belly fat. So two kinds of fat, estrogen-dominant fat weight gain and adrenally stress-related weight gain, belly fat being the numero uno symptom. So you got belly fat, you know, you've got stress issues, blood sugar regulation issues, insulin goes up. Insulin is a fat storage hormone and it likes to store it in the belly. So in a nutshell, I call it the gunt that we talked a little bit the last time you were on about hormone changes in your 30s.
Starting point is 00:19:04 But I'd love for you to talk a little bit about in your 20s, because I feel like I went through like a major body life shift at like 22. Is that normal, or am I just extra special? Girls were sort of saying, like, what is going on with us in our 20s? Well, you know, I think in your 20s, sometimes you're not, your cycles aren't fully established. Right. You know, sometimes you haven't gotten to a place where you're actually ovulating regularly. You know, you can have a period and not be ovulating. And if you don't ovulate, you don't make the full or proper complement of hormones in the right proportion.
Starting point is 00:19:41 And interestingly, a lot of the gals I've talked to since our first podcast have been put on birth control for all kinds of issues to do with classic hormonal imbalances, mostly to do with heavy, painful periods. Lots of younger gals have very heavy, painful, clotting kinds of periods and And PMS, really bad PMS or really bad cystic acne. And for the most part, they're put on birth control for that reason, not because they're sexually active. Yep. But I think it's because the establishment of the cycles is not really quite down.
Starting point is 00:20:22 And then also, you know, in your 20s, how many gals in their 20s? It's amazing. I talked to a woman who's an attorney. She's 27 years old. She works 70 hours a week. she's been on birth control for 17 years wow she's got just got married good stress but you know hey she's she is you know her cortisol curve her adrenal her adrenal levels which should be high you know it's like imagine we we ask you to test four times over the course of one day because we
Starting point is 00:20:52 want to see how your cortisol levels are are they highest in the morning when you need to get up and go and get you know be pumped for your day and do they gradually drop throughout the day to the lowest point at night so you can calm down and sleep or are they way low in the morning and way high at night so you're not sleeping and you're dragging yourself out of bed well this gal had that and then in between this huge spike and then this huge drop and she was a total basket case and in her 20s so i think in the 20s it's kind of you remember being in your 20s you don't really even know who you are you've just got identity problems you've got stress issues because your parents want you to be this way they want you to go to college you want to hang out and veg you
Starting point is 00:21:33 know there's just all these pressures and people just really don't people become very emotional about animals and they become vegans so they're not getting the right amount of protein a lot of young gals are junk food they don't know how to eat properly they don't know that you don't lose weight by eating having coffee in the morning and then not eating again until two in the afternoon and these are the kinds of things I mean I don't think there's anything intrinsically wrong in our 20s it's our habits it's becoming look at all these gals that listen to you that are saying I want to get my life back on track I've just not been eating right I've not been sleeping I'll sleep when I die you know I I'm burning the candle at both ends it's well I think there's this thing
Starting point is 00:22:15 when you you know you get out of college or you're starting sort of in at your life you might be in those times where at the bottom of rung of the ladder, you're paid the least and you're in that like, you have to hustle and prove yourself. And so like, I'm in a lucky place now because I am a little bit higher up my rung of ladder where I can help get someone to help me clean my house or whatever. But when you're in your early 20s, it's like, you're doing every man for themselves, man. And you're like, you can barely afford to buy groceries. So of course, like the 99 cent menu at McDonald's is like the best choice because for 10 bucks,
Starting point is 00:22:46 damn, you can have a meal. How about Top Ramen? That's what I lived on. It was a dollar a package when I was in college, you know, and, you know, a lot of these gals are gaining weight and they and their skin is breaking out and they're just so many pressures. And I do think also that's in the 20s. What's wrong with me when I'm in my 20s? I'm on birth control. And that's another that's another big issue.
Starting point is 00:23:08 So we're having vexed relationships, lots of people, you know, falling in love. But when is it that you have your first, you know, big heartbreak or you get, you know, you just, that person is waiting in the wings that maybe you haven't met them yet. In the meantime, you're sexually active, you're not sexually active, you're on and off birth control. It is wreaking hormonal havoc with young women. And most of them that I've talked to since being on this show have been on birth control not just since they were 15, 16. It's like you don't even know how you are off of it. You don't even know how you are. That's what so many people say.
Starting point is 00:23:44 I've spent my whole life on birth control. My whole life is 27 total years. You've been on birth control all that time. Who are you when you're not on birth control? And so this is interesting. Like for someone like Becca that has an IUD, and so she, do you ovulate then? You still ovulate? Well, I have a localized hormone IUD, Skyla.
Starting point is 00:24:07 It's like the Mirena. You don't have a period though, right? I don't bleed every month. So, but I still feel my body go through sort of the symptoms of PMS and like I know when I would be bleeding. Yeah. But I'm just not. That's what a lot of people say.
Starting point is 00:24:22 Okay. Well, what's going on is there are these pituitary hormones controlled by the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus signals the pituitary make these two, what they call gonadotropin hormones that are signals to the ovaries make estrogen. There's FSH, follicle stimulating hormone, first half of the cycle makes estrogen. estrogen, estrogen. LH, second half of the cycle makes progesterone. Those two have to be made. So that signal still goes out, but the contraception is dampening that signal. So the signal is kind of falling on deaf ears. So maybe you're getting a little bit of this and that,
Starting point is 00:24:57 you know, you're getting a bit of it, but basically you are, the whole idea of contraception is that you are not going to ovulate. So, I mean, to interfere with the pregnancy. But what I find so interesting in talking to all of the younger gals now is that you guys are having the same symptoms as women in menopause. A woman in menopause is not ovulating anymore. Her ovaries have packed up. We're done. We're not ovulating. Shop's closed. Shop is closed. Curtain's drawn. And so we're suffering all the same symptoms as a lot of younger women. And I'm thinking, wow. So they're trying to do us in the big pharma with the birth control synthetic hormones that are shutting down our natural hormone producing facility, it takes a good long while to get it
Starting point is 00:25:46 back once you meet Mr. Right or you want to have a baby. It can take a good while. So there's some prep you need to do for those of you who want to become fertile. You know, now you're ready and you weren't ready for the last 10 years. So, you know, the ovaries need to be woken back up again because they have been in latency mode and they don't know how to act. They don't know how to be. And all the same symptoms that come with the shutdown of ovaries. So, you know, we have lower levels of everything. We have lower estrogen. We have even lower progesterone.
Starting point is 00:26:21 So relatively speaking, that's still an estrogen dominant. We have lower testosterone. At the same time, birth control pills raise estrogen levels. They raise sex hormone binding globulin, which is a protein that binds up testosterone. so your testosterone is bound up and taken out of circulation so it's not working for you how many of you gals have low libido i can't i'd say nine out of ten that i'm talking to yeah women saying you know i love my husband but he thinks i'm not attracted to him but he's gorgeous and i he i adore him but i i just don't feel like it i don't have any desire what do i do
Starting point is 00:26:58 so common and it's not you know it's it's not just people on birth control this is also a common feature of hormone imbalance for many all the other reasons that create imbalances but i've just noted with the birth control i'm beginning to think and i was on the front i was on the front lines of birth control i was one of the first people to ever you know i was in the 60s in college i was right in there getting my birth control yeah then all i did was cry all day long yeah so i mean the birth control pill is a wonderful thing if you are in a relationship you're sexually active, and you're not having horrible symptoms. But if you are on the pill, like 58% of women who are not using it for contraception, but because you had a lot of
Starting point is 00:27:46 these symptoms I'm talking about, heavy periods, acne, fibroids, all this stuff, that is not a reason to get on the pill or on any kind of contraception. Let's talk about freezing our eggs. So we've had many a friend freeze their eggs in the last few years like we're in our mid-30s which is like when everyone is like oh shit I'm not ready for a baby I better freeze the eggs and then there's like this insanity of hell that you have to go through and pumping all the hormones into your body um so is there a prime age hormonally speaking to freeze your eggs where you wouldn't maybe have to go through hell the way that you do at 35 or they say I mean basically you want to freeze your eggs when you're under you know in your
Starting point is 00:28:31 late 20s um before before 30 i mean under 30 is is the most prime time but also you want to be prepping your body for healthy eggs right so when beating lots of avocado um there are really there are all kinds of nutrients and things that you want to if you're going to freeze your eggs you want to be um you know optimally we got it we're talking optimal nutrition and that doesn't mean being a vegan because you're not going to get enough protein unless you're really darn good at combining proteins. You want to have good proteins. You want to have all the good healthy fats. You want to have, you know, the anti-inflammatories like turmeric and, you know, all these great things that flaxseed, et cetera, just get them in healthy, viable shape. And don't,
Starting point is 00:29:21 you know, you want to be off the pill for a while, obviously, for a good, I'd say, six months before. And yeah, this is the prime time, the 20s, the period of you're the boat, all of us. Miss the boat! Someone asked this question. I thought it was fantastic. She said, what's the absolute best thing you can do in your daily routine that will help balance hormones? Wow. Well, you know, I think it really comes... Oh, by the way, I wanted to mention about freezing eggs and all that prep for it. Read Alyssa Vitti's book, The Woman Code. I think that is a great little book. I think every one of you young gals should be reading it. You know, I would say probably the most important thing is keeping your blood sugar stable. So that would mean
Starting point is 00:30:14 eating breakfast, probably. Seems impossible. Don't ask us to do these impossible things. That would mean having a proper breakfast meal. You know, when you wake up, your body is low in nutrients, and blood sugar is down. And when blood sugar is down, the adrenals are down, they start to impact all the other levels of hormones. It's a knock-on effect. So really, you know, the blood sugar imbalances are just major because the adrenals get wonky, then you get exhausted and burned out. You can't produce progesterone or estrogen in the right amounts because the adrenals are tied in with ovarian function and thyroid, too. So just the kind of diets that I'm hearing about are just not eating.
Starting point is 00:31:05 They're not really real food, you know. And I think the people that are realizing that, as Jess, my daughter, who's an Institute of Integrative Nutrition coach, and she works with me on our weight management package to help people learn, that you've got to have a really good protein, fiber, greens, and what's the fourth thing, Jess? And fats, good fats. That's the other thing, having good fats in your diet. So I think maybe it's one thing because if your blood sugar is balanced and your adrenals are balanced, then you're going to sleep. That's the other thing. sleep is so huge a lot of people aren't getting enough sleep so they're going you know waking up at 6 30 in the morning because there's just so damn much to do and then get to salt cycle yeah
Starting point is 00:31:49 and that's or whatever over exercises i can't tell you how many women i've talked to that are maybe spinning four or five times a day sometimes that's crazy spin cycling what do you call it spinning a day but i think when your body like when your hormones are off and your body's off you can do cardio until the cows come home and nothing's going to happen and that's the most frustrating thing and it makes it worse
Starting point is 00:32:11 makes it worse yeah and I had this similar thing like a couple years ago when I wasn't in the best health and I started putting on weight it freaked me out and so I would just like
Starting point is 00:32:19 so I was like in the morning so I was like at night work out like all the time cardio, cardio, cardio, cardio and I never had like and nothing happened
Starting point is 00:32:26 more weight happened in my life and I could not get it off no matter what I did and that's a real conundrum and I'm sure a big question for people and that is what I referred to earlier
Starting point is 00:32:34 the adrenals saying wow We got some stress stuff going on here. The woman is cycling from the Taliban or I don't know what. But this is, you know, we need to make her eat more, actually. We need to get, or if she's not going to eat, we're going to store fat for her. We're going to turn this blood glucose that we can find right into fat and put it right in her belly. And that's one of the biggest frustrations I do hear from gals.
Starting point is 00:32:59 I'm exercising all the time, except that they're not eating properly. They're not sleeping. they're on their cell phones at night, which disrupts sleep. Now, this is an interesting connection, which I may have talked about. The blue light from our electronic gizmos. I think we're all hip to this now. So we know it hits the pineal gland in the brain and it disrupts melatonin production, melatonin, the master sleep hormone. So then what happens is that you're not sleeping properly and melatonin and cortisol, the stress hormone, are supposed to be in this perfect balance. So it's kind of like Dracula. You know how Dracula went back into his crypt
Starting point is 00:33:35 when the light came up? So melatonin is supposed to be low and cortisol high in the morning. Cortisol is supposed to go into its little crypt at night and melatonin is supposed to come up. That gets reversed with this blue light. And the other thing that happens is appetite hormones, ghrelin and leptin. Sound like two little elves. They sound horrible. Horrible, hairy elves. Yeah, they're going to come haunt you. Rumpelstiltskin will get you. They come and they do get you. They get totally reversed.
Starting point is 00:34:05 It's like Rumpelstiltskin. So ghrelin is eat, eat, eat, eat, eat. And ghrelin goes up, up, up, up, up. And it's like you're hardwired to overeat. It is telling you to overeat. And your leptin that tells you to stop, you're full. Hey, you're full. Stop eating.
Starting point is 00:34:22 It's not that you're a slob. It's that you are hardwired to overeat right now because you're not sleeping. And that's that whole connection between people who don't sleep well have weight problems. It's just like snowballs. And that is 6.5 hours a day, by the way. If you are getting less than 6.5 hours, you are a short sleeper and you're not getting enough. Wow. Balancing your hormones helps you sleep better, too.
Starting point is 00:34:45 I feel like when I'm sleep deprived, the next day I am ravenous. Oh, me too. And it's like my body is just once more and more and more. Well, it's almost like you're hungover that you just want to like overeat to just feel normal. And that is exactly why. And you're waking up also. You're probably dragging yourself out of bed. Wow.
Starting point is 00:35:04 That makes sense. The Lady Gang. Now back to The Lady Gang. This is a really interesting question. She said, after Candice was on the first time, I asked both my GP general practitioner and OBGYN about the hormone spit test. and they both said they'd never heard of it and it doesn't make sense because blood tests check for testosterone and proteins and all the things she says that it doesn't what is her thought on doctors saying no to the swab no to the swab say no to the swab well first of all it's not a swab
Starting point is 00:35:43 it's a spit it's a spit no no no it is allowing your saliva to flow it's a flow by the way that spit test is kind of hard like you wouldn't think that it would be that hard to fill this tiny little canister with spit yeah but it's so hard we should talk about yours too yeah but you don't need to fill the tube oh i did oh dear and it took me like 20 minutes i'm like how and then all of a sudden you have dry mouth it's like it's like when somebody tells you like what's been new with your life and then you go blank it's like the same kind of thing the pressure just like i couldn't do it and then our cortisol level goes up and she's stressed out and then she's not sleeping and It's a disaster.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Last time our cortisol levels were all over the place. Well, that's why you have to let the saliva flow and know that you only, and if I didn't tell you that, I'm really sorry. You don't have to fill, but just like under half, minus bubbles. So here's the thing with saliva. So as I said, I worked for 15 years at a very prestigious hormone testing lab in Portland, Oregon. There are several of them in the country. And the functional medicine scene, which is those new age doctors that know that we need to look for the root cause for problems, those doctors that know that hormone replacement therapy of synthetic hormones made from pregnant mare's urine and other horrible things, big pharma has to add those molecules to patent something. You know, you can't patent a natural substance.
Starting point is 00:37:07 So all that stuff has been shown to be quite dangerous. Plus, it doesn't test very well in blood. you can't test these levels in blood so if you if i got on my soapbox here i could talk about the 50 years that women have been on synthetic hormones and were never tested my mother who just passed away two weeks ago was 93 she had every problem in the book with especially with thyroid she had been on prem pro synthetic estrogen for 30 years and her doctors never tested her it's like okay you've got hot flashes and night sweats you're a bitch on wheels you here's here's six point point six to five milligrams of prem pro catch you later 30 years
Starting point is 00:37:48 later so what's happening you become estrogen dominant because nobody thinks to put progesterone in there when i tested my mother in saliva because saliva tests active hormone levels if you test your hormone levels in blood if you get a free free testosterone or a free estrogen that that's good. That's measuring the fraction of hormone that is actually active. That's what you need. But the typical blood test is usually an FSH test. They test that follicle-stimulating hormone that I was mentioning earlier that sends a message to your ovaries, make hormone. That's not telling you how much you're making. That's not telling you how much has been released from the bloodstream and is on its way to the target tissues. And I may have mentioned before, hormones are like a key
Starting point is 00:38:33 in a lock. They travel from the blood. They're traveling in the bloodstream all the time as a reservoir. They're bound to a red blood cell. And there's always this 2% to 4% that's getting unbound because, hey, you're spinning or working out. And the brain says, hey, she's working out again. She's spinning. She's lifting weights. We need a little testosterone over here. So we get some testosterone released into the saliva from the blood, goes into tissue where the cells are. Well, we can capture that active level in saliva. And that level is what is much more easily correlated with the symptoms that people are experiencing. So in the 15 years that I worked in the lab, we went from 75% of our clients were women who just knew, I know there's
Starting point is 00:39:19 something wrong with my hormones and I need to test them without a doctor's help, to 75% functional medicine doctors who know damn good and well that this is the most accurate way to test active hormone levels. And it's also the gold standard for testing adrenal function because you have to test morning, noon, evening, bedtime. Now, where are you going to do a blood test before bed? Right. And you can't be pricking, doing a blood draw. That's really stressful. That's really going to skew your results. So there's the answer to that. I love that. A woman said, hot flashes and i'm 25 the internet tells me i'm menopausal my doctor says i'm fine but it still wakes me up at night i'm sure it does yeah and night sweats too i women 20 so
Starting point is 00:40:07 be interesting to know if she's on birth control um if if she is then her estrogen is going to be way low and and low estrogen and fluctuations of estrogen and progesterone create hot flashes big time. That's the roller coaster effect, hot flashes and night sweats. So it's probably a low estrogen thing. And sometimes that's because if you're not on the pill, that can be because you're a very slim person. She's 25. She may have a very low body fat. And we know that body fat is one of the major producers of hormone. So women who are underweight and really low in body fat are often low in estrogens and will have a lot of the same
Starting point is 00:40:50 symptoms as women in menopause with the hot flashes of night so it's not only about vaginal dryness vaginal dryness vaginal dryness yes there is are you one of those people that has a song I do that too
Starting point is 00:41:05 I always love to burst into song I'll think of one a lot of these are about birth control I like this question about the girl trying to get pregnant that's what I was going to say yeah so she no go okay she said um i'm trying to get pregnant and my timing always seems off for ovulation is it possible to ovulate late even if you have a positive opk oh dear that's a good question i i think so but i would like to do a little more digging into that
Starting point is 00:41:36 but it is possible to ovulate late yeah and especially if she's prepping for ovulation i I mean, it's not just about, you know, here's where testing is important and the test results are, they're a guide, but there needs to be this behavioral, you know, diet, sleep, all the stress management stuff going into this piece, too, so that it's not just about the OPK. What is OPK? I don't even know. Do we know what that is? It's the little test kit, right? The ovulation kit? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:09 Oh, okay, got it. It's like the ovulation period kit. I don't know. Ovulation period. Do we know what an OPK is? I'm just... It's a gestro-ovulation test? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:20 Oh, it's a... Yeah, the ovulation test. It's like just... Yeah, I bet a lot. Is it the classic ovulation test? I should know that. It's the ovulation test. God, take me out.
Starting point is 00:42:28 No. That's fine. Take me out. You can only know so much. I know. I know. You're like... I feel like we know a lot.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Your brain is big enough already. This woman says, I have a fibroid and a cyst. My doctor recommends adjusting my birth control from ortho-low to regular. Is it going to help or is it just going to make me a crazy bitch? so fibroid and a cyst those are both linked big time to estrogen growth multiplication anything to do with growth fibroids cysts endometriosis where the lining of the uterus is so thick and blood rich that you don't shed it every single cycle and it continues to become so overwhelmingly voluminous that it migrates out of the uterus into the pelvic floor.
Starting point is 00:43:15 Did you hear Lena Dunham had a full hysterectomy? Did she really? Because of that? Yeah. That's a shame no one got to her and that she was able to test and see what her levels were. You know how many unnecessary hysterectomies there are? Most of them are to do with heavy, painful periods or horrible fibroids, which grew because of probably a long time.
Starting point is 00:43:36 these are silent things you know these imbalances are hidden they're hidden hormonal imbalances they give you symptoms that you know i think one of the most important things may be an answer to that person's question what's the most important thing you can do know the symptoms of hormonal imbalance know that it is not normal to have horrible periods that cause you to stay home all day or migraines all the time or cystic acne or you know feeling completely just unable to sleep because of hot flashes and night sweats, know your symptoms. But growth, anything that is to do with growth, you know that this is an estrogen-related thing, and that's reversible just by balancing estrogen with its natural balancing partner, progesterone. And in younger
Starting point is 00:44:23 women, there's a great herb called chaseberry. It's called Vitex agnus castus, which is its Latin name, or sometimes it's called monk's pepper. But it's an herb that actually is a a medicine of antiquity. Hippocrates talked about it. And it's used to restore normal cycles. It signals that LH, that pituitary hormone, to create more progesterone in the body. So there are a lot of things that women can do, especially younger women, can use this herb instead of maybe using natural progesterone right off. But first, they can use Chaseberry first because you can react to that more. So this woman needs to get her levels tested to balance her estrogen
Starting point is 00:45:07 and also be aware of all the things that increase estrogen dominance like all those chemicals in the environment too. Now the last time you were on, Jack had her copper IUD. And since she has taken it out, and our next question is going to sound a lot like Jack, and it might be her on the Facebook page I'm not sure. She said, I just put in a copper IUD. This has made my bleeding a little longer. If you were Jack, you never didn't have a period.
Starting point is 00:45:31 You bled the whole time. And I feel more PMS-y. How do I cut down my PMS so my husband doesn't hate me and I don't feel depressed when I'm on my period? Before, my periods have been a breeze. I'm just a little confused as to why there has been such a big change. So she's on the copper IUD. Well, that's dismaying because the copper IUD is the better choice for trying to go non-hormonal. But with the copper IUD, if it makes your periods worse, does that also make the PMS?
Starting point is 00:46:02 Are those correlated, your actual period and PMS? Or could that just be maybe she's a placebo from bleeding so much? Yeah. You know, I'm thinking maybe that this person was already estrogen dominant and that signal is still happening. There's still an estrogen dominant situation. That's not going to be cured by the IUD, the non-hormonal IUD. I know a lot of people talk about the copper being hard to get used to in the first month, but then it gets easier. It is very possible to use something like Chaseberry that I was just talking about, Vitex, or natural progesterone while being on an IUD.
Starting point is 00:46:42 Just a little bit less than you would use if you weren't on birth control to alleviate symptoms like that. Yeah. Well, because I had the progesterone cream. I got it after I had my consultation with you. So, but like for her, because I know it takes like up to six months for somebody to get used to the copper IUD. So it's probably with her just like a waiting period to see if it's better. And some people don't ever adjust. I know that when I was, you didn't.
Starting point is 00:47:07 No. And I had the same problem before I had children. After I had children, the IUD was a breeze and it was wonderful. If it's a problem for somebody and it's painful and they already were, you know, out of balance, then, which it sounds like with this person, it might be better to use some kind of barrier methods. I just read about something. There's a vaginal film now that people can buy that has a spermicide in it. Is it like this sponge? With the stuff you put on your teeth.
Starting point is 00:47:35 Oh, like a pressed white strip? Yeah. A whitener for your cervix. cervix. Will you just shove it up there and then it just has sperm? Like a Listerine tab kind of? Wait, no. I haven't actually heard of those and it just kind of like sits on the side of your... Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:51 But I mean, there's the male condom. What about him taking some responsibility? Yeah, come on, dude. Male birth control, they like shut off the testing and stuff for it because the guys had side effects. So they just like shut it all down. Isn't that sad? Yeah, so sad.
Starting point is 00:48:07 I think it was weight gain and irritability, so poor guys. Amazing. And we live with this, and it becomes normal. Yeah. But, you know, I think anybody that has really bad PMS definitely has an estrogen dominant. Forget whatever birth control you're on. You are low in progesterone. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:25 In fact, this is funny. There was a doctor in the U.K., Dr. Katerina Dalton, who did tons of research on PMS because she knew there were, like, 150 symptoms of PMS. And she's the doctor that Dr. Lee, who brought all this information to us in the States, studied with. But she actually defended a woman in court who had killed her boyfriend. And part of the defense was that her PMS had caught, that she had low hormone, low progesterone levels. Wait, did she get away with it? Yeah. No.
Starting point is 00:48:58 Yeah. But I don't know if that was part of her defense. temporary insanity. She was shown, a medical doctor was able to get up and say she had a physiologic imbalance. Yeah. Seems like a little bit of a cop-out, but... I mean, there's been some amazing...
Starting point is 00:49:14 You know, what about women who have postpartum depression? Yeah, I mean, that's... Who drown five children. Adria Brady. Well, that was insane. If she had known when you give birth and you deliver that placenta and it's loaded with progesterone and you are rock-bottom low,
Starting point is 00:49:30 you could be horribly wildly depressed yeah that's interesting some of the women i'm gonna skip over that yeah like someone uh we'll get back to the lip dark lip um hair but someone um someone wrote i'm currently six months pregnant and i have a really good girlfriend who's sort of struggling right now with this at post-pregnancy um this woman is six months pregnant she said i read that if you tend to be more sad angry negative during pregnancy you're more prone to having postpartum depression Is this so? What can I do to help my hormones adjust after having a baby?
Starting point is 00:50:01 After having a baby? Well, you know, actually, the thing that you're lowest in after having a baby is progesterone. And as I mentioned, my mentor at the lab I used to work for, he's a guru in this field. And I remember after Adrienne Brady drowned her five babies, he came out, her five children, and he said, if that woman had only known about progesterone, if she'd only known. because it is the natural calming hormone in our body. It is our natural valium. It hits the pleasures that, you know, progesterone is, and GABA. Progesterone hits the GABA receptors of the brain.
Starting point is 00:50:39 That's what keeps the baby asleep in the womb. So what you lose when you give birth, you know, think about it. We women are exhausted. Nine months we have to carry a baby. I remember thinking, my God, I've carried this baby. Now I have to give birth to this baby. Now I have to breastfeed this baby. I'm not getting any sleep.
Starting point is 00:50:56 I can hardly go to the bathroom. I mean, it is kind of tough. So this is when you need extra TLC. This is all adrenal stuff. You know, the adrenal glands that have to monitor all your response to stress. And that means from the moment you get out of bed in the morning, like I said, divorce, death, accident, Christmas, birthdays, it's all stress to the body. And the adrenals have to function full on, full stop all the time. They need extra support.
Starting point is 00:51:23 So when you've just been through nine months of pregnancy and delivery and you're really low in hormones, you not only need to replenish with a little bit of progesterone, rub in a little bit, a quarter teaspoon of natural bioidentical progesterone cream at bedtime, you're going to feel worlds better. And then you need B-complex and you need some adaptogens like maca and rhodiola and ashwagandha. I love the tincture Adrena Soothe by Aviva Ram. Great book. The Thyroid Adrenal Revolution. Adrena Soothe. It's a tincture. You put it under your tongue and it's supporting your adrenals.
Starting point is 00:52:00 The Russians did research on these herbs that actually nurture and strengthen the adrenals. That is the key. Adrenal strength. Now, not to be a creep. Postpartum. But my question is, you said you've got to rub the progesterone is what makes the baby sleep in the womb. Yeah. Can you rub progesterone cream on the baby to make them sleep?
Starting point is 00:52:18 Probably, yeah, absolutely. I mean, I know that sounds crazy, but— You can rub progesterone on yourself, on you, baby, and sleep better. That's one of the big wake-up calls with—it's the go-to-sleep thing. With women that start to use progesterone, they start to see they're sleeping a whole lot better. Wow. Because it's inhibitory, and estrogen's excitatory. So you're, and also I should mention progesterone is the hormone that the adrenals need.
Starting point is 00:52:47 They need it as a precursor, like it's the raw material for the adrenals to actually create cortisol and all that cortisol you need all day long to keep going. So when you're low in that, you get a raft of symptoms. But I think postpartum wise, yeah, you need really super nutrition. You need adaptogens. You need progesterone. You need sleep. You need a good diet, no caffeine.
Starting point is 00:53:08 um you know good fats good fiber thanks for coming okay we have so many more questions we are going to have to have you back for a third because we're not going to get through all of these in an hour but the last one i'm going to talk about is hair so there's two types of things um girls are saying they've been losing weight and they're losing hair um and hormones and then other girls are saying i have a mustache so let's talk about hormones and hair well interestingly the girl that is losing hair and has a mustache has probably the same issue and that is going to be high androgen hormones androgens andro is the greek word for male so we know that the male of the species has more testosterone than we women but we all share the same hormones just in
Starting point is 00:53:56 differing amounts but testosterone is that hormone that gives us the hair you know why do men have Hairier bodies because they've got more testosterone. They have heavier bones, heavier muscles, deeper voices, you know, heavier body mass. That's all testosterone. Wait, I need to interrupt you. Does that mean when a man, like, starts losing his hair, his sex drive goes down, like, automatically? Like, a bald man will want less sex because he has less testosterone? Or is that, like, totally something else?
Starting point is 00:54:21 That's the reverse. Oh. So bald men are hornier? Yeah. Oh. Interesting. Becca just woke up and she was like, what? And she was confused.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Is this why there are so many men walking around that are shaving their heads? Are they really bald? Do you guys know? No, they go bald and they don't want you to know. Any man that's going bald needs to bick his head, by the way. Because they're hot. Like Zach's hot with a shaved head. Is that your husband?
Starting point is 00:54:49 Yeah. Right. But he lost his hair from steroids in college. Really? Really. Why was he on? Oh, he was on muscle boosters? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:58 And I guess that was a sign. He never came back? So there is a perfect example. So high androgens cause you to lose hair from the scalp and excess facial and body hair. You lose hair from the scalp, but you grow. Oh, so a woman could lose her hair, have thinning hair, but be having a mustache. Yes, she'll have thinning hair. How nice.
Starting point is 00:55:18 If it's really bad. And one of the reasons, and you've heard the term PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome. Those are the gals that have, if they have PCOS, they generally will have, depending on how bad it is, they will have excess facial hair. I remember consulting with a gal who had full-on sideburns. And I see women all the time. I want to say to them, you need to test. You've got too much androgen, honey. You've got too much testosterone.
Starting point is 00:55:46 And there is a way to reverse this. The way that usually happens is that 9 out of 10 times, these are people who have had junk food diets for a long time. They've been eating too much sugar, too many carbs, not getting the fiber and the fats and the protein they need. They have been in a state of hormonal imbalance for a long time. Because what happens is when you have a lot of sugar coursing through your system, whether it comes from your diet or your stress levels, that sugar is has to be regulated by insulin right so insulin goes up and then you've heard of insulin resistance so we tend to have these people that have high sugar and high insulin because after a while insulin can't it's like the pizza guy he can't keep delivering pizza to the
Starting point is 00:56:33 same door we've had enough pizzas delivered thank you very much you know stop the you know you lock the door and say go away after a while i would never say that won't all the pizza after a while the muscle cells can't use any more glucose for fuel the liver has got enough fuel and now it's becoming a fatty liver and oh by the way it can't clear excess hormone and we become estrogen dominant the liver has to be clearing this stuff so what happens is that extra insulin that's hanging around actually causes the ovaries to overproduce testosterone or the testes in a male And that overproduction of testosterone causes these cysts on the ovaries. What it does is it suppresses estrogen and progesterone.
Starting point is 00:57:19 So we don't get that nice cycle where the egg is growing in the ovary, very lovely. No, instead we've got testosterone tamping down those perfect cycle hormones and creating cysts, like a bunch of grapes on the ovaries. And all of those cysts are making more testosterone. Isn't it insane that, like, how many times have you gone to the gyno and they've been like, you have cysts, right? Uh-uh. Oh, I know I do. And, like, I've never had a gyno be like, this is why you have cysts. They're just like, oh, we need to keep watching those cysts.
Starting point is 00:57:47 Or at least test you. I mean, I get asked this. Why isn't my doctor telling me that? This is known. I mean, these are androgen-related issues, high androgens, and also acne, horrible acne and abdominal fat. All of these things go together with that syndrome, metabolic syndrome. is part of this picture which is a pre-diabetic situation which is an infertility risk big time so anybody that has the the this is why i say probably the most important thing know the
Starting point is 00:58:19 symptoms of hormone imbalance if you have a mustache or you're losing hair that's not you that's not your greek heritage or whatever for whatever reason or because your dad is bald you No, yeah. No. Wow. Before we wrap up, do you guys have anything? So many things. It's just like overwhelmed.
Starting point is 00:58:39 Well, I have a question, and this might not really pertain, but I have been dealing with a lot of the high-grade cells on my cervix from HPV. So they actually, I did a ton of research in seeing how I can sort of get those levels lower, And I read somewhere that I could do an estrogen metabolizer, like a supplement. But I didn't really know, like, how that, the correlation, like, with my estrogen and with these cells. Well, again, growth of unnatural, anything to do with unnatural excessive growth of cells, cellular growth is going to be, you know, cells are supposed to grow and then die. Yeah. Apoptosis.
Starting point is 00:59:22 You have overgrowth of cells. It's an estrogen-fueled thing. And estrogen accumulates in the body not only because of these synthetic hormones we're on, not only because birth control raises those levels, not only because we drink out of plastic water bottles and aren't aware that we cannot eat meat and dairy that is shot up with hormones. We get this estrogen burden going in the body. And the body has three pathways to get rid of estrogen. Everything in the body has to metabolize properly. So when they talk about an estrogen metabolizer, they want the estrogen to go down the proper pathway. There are three, and two of them are bad.
Starting point is 01:00:03 If it goes down the 16 or the 4 pathway, these are called methylation pathways. It's just like, you know, breakdown metabolism. Then we're storing estrogen, so that even makes it worse. We're accumulating more and more estrogen, becoming more and more estrogen dominant. it. There's a pathway called the two pathway. And the way to get your estrogen to go down that way is to use a metabolizer, which would mean, number one, the best one, the best way is to eat lots of cruciferous vegetables. But you can't eat enough. You'd have to eat two pounds of broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, all that kale. Those vegetables have an ingredient in them that actually promotes
Starting point is 01:00:43 proper estrogen metabolism and down the right pathway and actually also clears accumulated toxic estrogens in the system. So it's good stuff, but we can't eat enough. So there's something called DIM, which is D-I-M, and the active ingredient is indole 3-carbinol, and that is what he's probably talking about. That's what it is. Yeah. Doesn't that make you way more fertile, too?
Starting point is 01:01:13 Or am I just making that up? Well, I mean, it's very balancing. Indole-3-carbinol DIM is very balancing because it's another way to get your hormones into a much better balance. Therefore, you would be more fertile. I just remember hearing about it a couple years ago and looking at it on Amazon or something and reading all of the reviews. And there was a bunch of people that were like, oh, and then I got pregnant. Interesting. And anyone that is really, you know, that tests high in estrogen.
Starting point is 01:01:46 Because with estrogen dominance, some women are actually low in estrogen. But their progesterone is so much lower that, relatively speaking, they're still estrogen dominant. But some women are way high in estrogen. They're not aware they should be asking for hormone-free when they eat. You know, they're just getting all these hormones in. And they can use DIMM very successfully. I just would have paid way more attention to my health classes if they had taught me things that I actually needed to know. Like, I understand where the ovaries are.
Starting point is 01:02:15 I'm good. You know what I mean? But, like, this is fascinating. I know what the food triangle used to be. We're going to have you back every time you're in town. But I know that you want to help out the girls. So let's talk about your site. We know that a lot of lady gangers have gone.
Starting point is 01:02:28 And so give us a deal. Oh, yes. And thanks so much, lady gangers.
