Starting point is 00:02:18 Things are about to change around here. Each week, we catch up with Hollywood's hottest girl posse, Kelty Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jack Vanek. Hello, hello, hello, and welcome to the Lady Gang. I am Becca Tobin, actress and blogger. Across from me is Kelty Knight of Entertainment Tonight. To my right is Jack Vanek, clothing designer and CEO of Jack Vanek Clothing. Sup?
Starting point is 00:02:40 Hi, guys. Hey. Let's just jump right into it. I have to start. Go. No, you have to say it's time for. It's time for. Good week.
Starting point is 00:02:49 Yes, it is. Bad week. Oh, no. Thank you. okay i have to tell you guys i have the greatest good week of all time doubt it so yesterday i was doing a red carpet shoot i had many a-list interviews and i was like oh yeah i'm on it and like everyone it was awesome shoot and so i went home that night i took a shower got my makeup off i went into bed and i was like just rolling through my instagram before i went to sleep you
Starting point is 00:03:19 know like you do and i i never really check my dms that aren't from people i follow but i was like let me just go through and try to clean up the hundreds of messages i have and i can't tell you who i was going to but chris said that there's like a code of celebrity that i really can't because what if this person's like baby mama or wife or what i don't even know his story i got hit on my dms by an ala celebrity and i quote you know i have a crush on you right you look awesome tonight and every night what oh my god i can't wait to figure out who it is so i didn't respond but i screenshotted it but they won't be able to tie screenshotted because i don't follow them and i didn't accept the message also they can't tell anyways it's amazing anyway
Starting point is 00:04:01 i'm so famous and i'm so beautiful that even the a-listers are hitting on me can you pass them my way you don't want him to be passed i feel like i know who this is you know i'm good at guessing i No, but we can't talk. I'm going to be good. I'll talk after. Okay. I need to know. All right.
Starting point is 00:04:15 Bad week. So the Emmys are passed. Anyway, this happened like three weeks ago, but I didn't have a chance to tell you guys. So I got invited to go on HLN, the big morning show, Michaela, to talk about the Emmy nominations. And so literally, my segment was at 8.50 a.m. The Emmy nominations didn't even end till 9. So I had like half of the info. And they're like, what are you going to talk about?
Starting point is 00:04:37 I'm like, I'm good. I'm good. And I'd been like taking notes. I literally sat on television for five minutes And was like, yeah, Michaela, Oprah's gonna be at the Emmys Beyonce's nominated for Lemonade And then I was like, but what about the snubs? The This Is Us women didn't get nominated
Starting point is 00:04:50 It's horrible I literally said five minutes of information that was completely wrong On national television Because not all the nominations had come out yet So yeah, Chrissy Metz did get nominated And there wasn't a This Is Us snub And Beyonce's not nominated Titus Burgess or whatever from Kimmy Schmidt
Starting point is 00:05:05 Is nominated for his partake of Lemonade Anyway wow so you really screwed it up it's not even like something i could fix and then after i wrote to my show i was like should we let them know that like most everything i said was absolutely wrong on national television they're like we don't want to draw attention to your mistakes damn that's well i'm also bringing up a bad week from weeks past because i didn't want to break this to you when you were still living in your old house but i had to tell you now so kelty lived in the middle of hollywood and she recently moved and we were getting dropped off in a car service
Starting point is 00:05:39 after an event and we get to kelty's house and the next stop is supposed to be mine well they screwed up and they didn't tell the car service that i was the next stop so the guy has very strict instructions that it stops here like they can't drive me home whatever i was like i'm so annoyed it's so late at night i was like fine i'll just get a freaking uber at this point kelty's already upstairs because it's like we assumed it would be fine so i'm outside and i'm like i'll just call an uber it's three minutes away what can happen what happened i'm standing there and i hear like slapping and i'm like what is happening just slapping and slapping and it's coming closer it's coming closer and i look around the corner it's a crazy person with a sex whip
Starting point is 00:06:21 like walking down the street slapping it and coming in my direction i jumped into the fence your neighbor has a lower fence yeah i jumped into it waiting for my uber because i was like this is it this is it this is how i die i know it they're gonna talk about on the lady gang they're gonna be like she always knew she would get killed by a crazy person i don't know if he's homeless he was just crazy and not a sex whip that's right oh so i'm glad you moved praise the lord okay so that was my bad week um my good week is that i just finished a really good book and i feel like now that we talk about books a little bit more on the podcast there's book club blah blah i'm really proud of myself because i probably only get to finish like maybe five books a year because i
Starting point is 00:07:06 really have terrible add it's called the passenger oh and it's really good it's really good that's all i have to say there's my book my book recommendation wow you're so smart lisa lutz lisa lutz lutz sounds like she didn't get t's in high school no jack okay um so my good week i have confession to make tell me i haven't listened to our podcast in probably a year what because well we live it i know well but you do you guys listen to it i listen to it every week so i used to and then for some reason when my ex and i almost broke up the first time that we should have broken up um i had some weird like anxiety about it because i could talk about it and i like didn't want to make you upset it'd make me upset and then i'm like thinking about the time it was
Starting point is 00:07:51 weird i just stopped listening to it and i haven't listened to it since and then a guy that i was talking to i was telling him about the podcast whatever and he's like oh i'm gonna listen to it and i was like shit what else are you gonna listen to i hope i'm not talking about anything like insane or embarrassing to listen so i needed to listen so i ended up listening to like 10 of our podcasts and we're kind of funny and i was pleasantly surprised you're such a dork thanks for listening to your own podcast so anyways there's one extra download from me thank you um we just made three cents yes my bad week um i was recently staying in a nice hotel that i will not name and uh you know i wake up in the morning and i'm going to get ready to shower
Starting point is 00:08:33 and i get my brush to brush my hair and something falls out of my hair i was like what the a rat i look on the ground it was a nail like a fingernail and i looked at my nails i'm like did i break a nail in bed okay no i looked at my toenails what are that are painted i was like not mine somebody else's nail was in my bed and ended up in my hair that's disgusting that's what you get for going to the bungalow what's coming up well we're very excited because today we're going to be talking about eating and sugar and kind of just learning about you shouldn't boil certain oils they're bad that was not a good tease crosby taylor's here now back to the lady gang hello everyone we're back and our guest today is the editor-in-chief of tailoredlife.com he's a
Starting point is 00:09:21 fashion model and graduated college football athlete turned biohacker and sugar-free dessert chef he believes that everyone is different and therefore not just one diet or lifestyle is going to work for everybody he's tried every diet fad out there he went vegan he did the body ecology diet the hardcore paleo diet the alkaline diet as well as the super high fat ketogenic diet it and never actually felt that good. So he decided to take bits of information from each one of those and upgraded his own life. And he's here to share his journey with us. He's also the creator behind Crosby's Cookies, Eat, Dessert, Burn, Fat, a sugar, gluten, and grain-free dessert company born from a labor of love. He's hacked the dessert world and has come up with hundreds
Starting point is 00:10:04 of recipes for cookies, cupcakes, donuts, pancakes, cinnamon rolls, ice creams, and chocolates. So when it's our period, we can eat all of them and not feel so bad. Every single recipe is boosted with superfoods and beneficial ingredients and we want to welcome to the lady gang crosby taylor who brought treats yeah treats what an introduction thank you i do want to just say now there was some talk on the lady game facebook group because this is like uh we're having like a sugar-free sort of conversation about eating and food this is not a nutrition lesson this is a how are you going to live your life because we've all read the magazines and the books we've all heard the nutritionists talk, but now we're going to have a conversation about what has worked for us and how
Starting point is 00:10:48 to eat. So that's my disclaimer. Yeah, it's about upgrading and enhancing your life, not about telling people how to eat, what to eat, those things. Yeah. Okay. So how did you get started in this? How did I get started in which part? I have a question. Can we talk about these cupcakes first? Yes. So I mean the one I just finished. There's two different kinds and I need to know which is the best. Oh, it's gone. It's gone. It's completely gone. It's gone. That was fast. Okay, well, can I tell the backstory of how I met Crosby? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:14 We have friends in common. And so one day I was like, oh, I'm going to follow him on Instagram. And he would like be Insta-storing these like treats and these cookies that are famous in LA. All my friends in the fitness world know all about Crosby's cookies. Layla Ali has a podcast. She came on ours. And she's talking about her friend Crosby, like her guru who she talks to about food and nutrition. So finally, she's the best.
Starting point is 00:11:38 Finally, I was like, I want one of these cookies because when I'm eating healthy at the end of the day, all I want is something sweet. And so then I'll usually like bomb out and like ruin everything I did during the day and I'll eat something sweet. So finally, Crosby brought me brownies, his double fudge brownies. And I was instantly a believer because it was, I mean, it tastes just as good and I didn't feel bad about it. And this cupcake might be better than the fudge brownies. It's better. Yeah, I like the cupcakes a lot more than the brownies as well. But I love a brownie.
Starting point is 00:12:10 This one that you just had is actually a brand new cupcake. It's the orange spice cupcake, which I started making these orange spice cookies a while back. And it's very similar, but I have a new like actual cupcake batter recipe that's completely different than the cookies. so and the cool thing about these cupcakes that we can tell our listeners is i have something on my instagram that talks exactly about the calories the fat proteins carbs sugars in each one of these cupcakes so when you get the recipe eventually i'm actually going to do um the recipe on an extra tv segment with uh renee oh cool likes yeah so we're going to shoot that in the next couple weeks and then that'll be out at some point and so we'll do the cupcakes and then people can have the recipe
Starting point is 00:12:55 but i kind of want to exclusively keep it for that episode until yeah well we got a taste and it's worth it it's delicious but i still need to know which one of these cupcakes is better well it depends if you're into the like cinnamon orange flavor or more of like a vanilla matcha type situation because the and the matcha one is going to give you some like pick me up caffeine in it as well so i'm gonna do a matcha okay you can choose whatever you want they're all sugar gluten and grain free that's amazing the isenes are all made with probiotics and uh protein there's less than a gram of sugar in each one oh my god that's insane okay so let's begin sure let's get into it the girls have asked questions no no just kidding you're in the hot seat i think one of the questions
Starting point is 00:13:45 we got the most was just about dairy and sugar. Like how bad is it really for you? And why do you hear everyone in Hollywood is cutting it out? Well, I think you have to look at a couple different things, especially with dairy to begin with is number one, we grew up, everybody grew up on pasteurized dairy. So eventually we get to a point where we can't handle it anymore and you develop an allergy to it. Now there's people that have grown up on their own farms, kids that have been still drinking dairy and it's raw grass fed pastured all that and they're like wait what you guys have a problem with milk like what are you talking about so there that's definitely number one as we've what happens is when you pasteurize the dairy it destroys the lactase enzyme that you
Starting point is 00:14:29 need to digest the lactose which is the sugar right that's in the dairy so that being said since we've already all screwed up our guts doing that now we're at this position now um i also look at like blood type and i ask people what's your blood type and they're like oh i'm an oh well o's are you know one of the things that they don't do well with is dairy like a lot of people that are oh are like oh i can't drink milk so then there's that and then if you combine it with everything else in your diet and you're already eating a lot of sugars and starches and you're just feeding the bad bacteria in your gut on a regular basis too with the dairy you're going to be a mess so you kind of have to pick and choose your battles i like to go with all types of dairy
Starting point is 00:15:12 that don't have sugar so i still do grass-fed butter um i get that from like pennsylvania like amish country in pennsylvania like raw i don't know if everybody's gonna do that i'm so weird you're the weirdest but like there are like good grass-fed butters out there people are using ghee a lot which is butter without lactose casing and salt so that's a great alternative and then um i do like fermented dairy so like if i could get like a cult really good raw kefir that's really good for your guts people actually sounds disgusting oh like it's good yeah yeah it can be it depends on how much the some the some that certain somebody is eating a lot of like sweets and they're going to taste something sour be like no yeah but that and
Starting point is 00:15:57 then you you said oh sugar well sugar i don't know if you can the the really like when it comes to your metabolism and how your body breaks down sugar everybody is different so some people can thrive off of like a lot of fruit every day for a certain amount of time i don't know how long that will last um but for a time being like a lot of people are like oh my god i'm on this fruitarian thing and it's like i'm feeling so great and i'm losing all this weight i'm cleansing well i think there is a cleansing period to that because your body you're literally boosting your metabolism way beyond what you've ever been used to um but of course like cane sugar and all those things when it comes to even high doses of natural sugars eventually i think will catch up to you uh they'll
Starting point is 00:16:45 start to feed the bad bacteria in your gut um they'll start to start to it'll start to give you brain fog it's glucose um can be beneficial at certain times and your brain uses some of it obviously but you can also get tons of energy from ketones which come from fat so that's how i kind of work my way around somebody that i might be working with is like well you can have both types of energy let's be able to adapt to both of them um and not and then stay away from all the processed type sugars obviously like that's a big one processed sugar um can you scare me straight right now to stay away from that stuff like what is something what would i just tell me like the worst part i need fear i need you need fear i need fear the lady gang needs fear i need
Starting point is 00:17:30 to know because it's like i'm like oh my god this isn't gonna hurt it's just like a little sugar well what is the little sugar that you're having i mean it's i mean it runs the gamut it's like skittles or ice cream like i mean yeah my my friend i saw my friend at the gym and he was like yeah dude i need some help i eat a bag of skittles every night while i watch a movie and i said that is it's 2017 straight 2017 like where are you getting i don't even know where to buy skittles you have to go to a gas station right you think that's so funny you think that's so funny i had like a bad week a couple weeks ago and i went to 7-eleven i bought one of every kind of sugar candy and just had like eight bags of candy and i was going from like swedish fish to gummy rings
Starting point is 00:18:11 to gummy bear to sour straws but like tell me why my friend violet's like that too it's just candy there's a lot of girls just like randomly we'll just go buy a bunch of sugar and eat it all at once but it causes dementia right i mean sugar has everything though you could yeah you could write a list the list is just never ending of things that it'll feed all different types of diseases and and brain problems and you name it to the point where it's kind of the beginning in my opinion it's the beginning of how everything starts to get to detriment um i don't know anyone that's really thriving completely i mean there's people that genetically can take on sugar all day long and they just look like a brick house but they're always being like oh but i feel like
Starting point is 00:19:04 this right so there's always something negative going on when you're consuming large amounts of it what is that large amount depends on the person for sure and what they're able to withstand and their age and genetics and everything because i i made friends with an 86 year old man awesome guy who said the key to life is to not give a shit and and and this guy's waking up and going to air one and having bacon and eggs yeah and then he's having like a normal breakfast like a normal lunch like a sandwich or something and then he's having strawberry shortcake every night really and he said this guy this guy this guy and he's tall and skinny and he's still just He's riding his bike to Air One.
Starting point is 00:19:47 He's amazing. And genetics. He said his grandpa lived to 102. So we can get away with a lot if you have genetics, but if you are one of the people that's having issues, then you definitely need to cut back your sugar. And even to some of the natural sugars, they're really the only one that I think can be beneficial because of the fiber and stuff is certain types of fruits, especially berries, high in antioxidants, those types of things. I still eat a lot of that, but I have certain portions.
Starting point is 00:20:23 Do you ever wonder if Gwyneth Paltrow will like, and I hope this doesn't happen, but will just get a horrible disease and then the goop will be over? She might. the other day on facebook she posted like it looked pretty good actually was like her morning elixir when she's not cleansing and it was like that probably cost like a hundred dollars to make right it was so crazy but then i was like i wonder like how gwyneth paltrow will die like what will she just die of old age like will she get cancer no i know it's horrible to say but i'm just saying like she made such a commitment to her health like she is not but messed around
Starting point is 00:20:56 that's the same thing with genetics too it's like you there's some things you can't but wouldn't be so horrible if she got like anyway okay what is the healthiest oil to cook with to cook with yeah that's a really good transition i would say there's three different types of oils to use depending on grapeseed if you're no coconut sunflower coconut olive definitely not um guess one becca oil so what do you have coconut extra virgin olive oil no you do not want to cook with extra virgin olive oil isn't that what everybody cooks with exactly i cooked my brussels sprouts it's a low heat oil so olive oil so as soon as you sunflower already is that one there's there's three that i
Starting point is 00:21:39 like to get people to use just tell us coconut oil ghee and because they're all high smoke points and avocado oil actually very high they're all three of so the highest one i think might be avocado oil over ghee what's the point of a smoke point because it's at a certain temperature so So say you're pan frying something and it gets up to like 300 and something degrees. That olive oil is already rancid. Like you've kind of destroyed the molecular makeup of that olive oil and it's going to turn into more of a carcinogen than it's actually going to be good for you. What? I literally doused my Brussels sprouts, thought I was so healthy in olive oil last night.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Yeah. I mean if you keep it at like a low temperature, you can get away with that. I was at 350 in the oven. Exactly. so you're better off doing like the avocado oil in the oven and then drenching the olive oil and then smoking a cigarette yeah okay cool yeah and then and then depending on genetics crosby here's the truth though here's the truth even though we do have some real rich bitches in the lady gang we're mostly coconut oil is affordable no coconut oil is affordable but
Starting point is 00:22:42 i will say that i have been on a health kick as you can see when i just devoured my cupcake that was healthy um so and the difference between the difference between going to like a grocery store and just buying the food yeah and then going to try to make healthy organic meals there is a price difference and it's very difficult for people to eat that are on a budget to eat healthy and that was our next question how can i eat healthy when i'm busy broke and exhausted easy cheap meal ideas busy broke and exhausted i mean i have a great answer that sounds like an autobiography i mean yeah you want to start what do you do what do you do becca well no it's not it's a mindset that i get into because i think about all the things i spend money on and granted like it's all relative
Starting point is 00:23:30 but you know the girls that get their weekly manicures or the girls who go to like three bar classes a week or like there's there if you truly are broke i get it but it's like picking and choosing what's most important and in my opinion it's like what you're putting into your body should probably be the highest quality thing more than your purse or shoes like that's just my opinion yeah i mean obviously but also i think that people looking at food as fuel and eating something that's going to get them through the day should start to recognize that the thing that digests the slowest and actually gives them long-lasting energy throughout the day is fat and so many people are scared are scared of fat me too yeah so like literally like if you don't
Starting point is 00:24:17 have any money and you can afford to like go buy an avocado and like or eggs and eggs and be able to have that in the morning and you could you could fast on that for a while i mean i'm not telling people that they should go not eat food at all but there's instead of going and getting snacks that are high carbohydrate snacks that are going to leave you hungry two hours later get something that's going to fulfill you for a longer period of time top five fatty foods to eat eggs avocado three more eggs and avocado i mean having coconut oil on something like a bulletproof coffee would be a really great idea especially if you're already drinking coffee every morning and you want to incorporate some fats and you don't just like one spoonful coconut oil
Starting point is 00:25:00 which is disgusting you can throw that in your coffee and that's your first meal and now you know some people most men i know can withstand that till two or three o'clock in the day but even women you know one o'clock you do it right i love a good bulletproof yeah bulletproof's great um you can do it as a matcha if you want it to be a little bit more like on the alkaline side people are worried about the acidity these days so depending on where you're at with that matcha or or bulletproof and and having throwing olive oil on things in the morning too spirulina is actually uh also loaded with with good fats and acai acai bowl has good fats an acai bowl and acai the real acai is actually loaded with fat it's got a lot of omega-9s which are great for the skin
Starting point is 00:25:48 but yeah but not are you talking about like but the acai bowls but i'll say bowls smoothies that you're gonna get are actually loaded with extra cane sugar they don't tell you but you can but So you can buy acai at the store unsweetened, and then you can sweeten it yourself. I can't wait to have my avocado acai olive oil spirulina breakfast. It sounds so good, right? Delicious. I recently made the ketogenic granola at home. How do you feel about that?
Starting point is 00:26:20 I don't know this recipe. It's the ketogenic diet. It's just basically like stevia. With nuts and seeds? Yeah. How do you feel about nuts? I feel like there's two very different schools with nuts as being a snack. I personally don't eat any more nuts.
Starting point is 00:26:37 No. Why? I'm trying to think if I do. Every once in a while, like macadamia. Right. But that's because I realize that they don't sit well in my stomach, especially because I'm not going to eat a small handful of almonds. I'm going to go to Whole Foods and binge eat that. That's always my problem with nuts.
Starting point is 00:26:58 And everybody does that. They're like, oh, I need to get done with their lunch. And then they go to the bulk section where all the nuts are literally bad. They've been sitting there for like three months. Gross. Just think about the bottom of the bulk. They fill that up all the time. It never gets to the bottom.
Starting point is 00:27:15 They never get to the bottom nuts. Only the top nuts are red. You need to go when it's full. Don't get on the bottom nut. Nobody wants a bottom nut. Also, can I tell you guys a quick story while you think about your nuts? When I was a kid, I had really messed up teeth, and there was black spots all over them. I don't know, something about the fluoride.
Starting point is 00:27:34 And I used to tell people it was because I was allergic to nuts and I ate them, but it was just that I didn't like nuts and I had messed up teeth. Oh, wow. That makes no sense. That's the end of my story. Okay, anyway. Anyone can use that now. I know.
Starting point is 00:27:46 Next question. We didn't even talk about how bad nuts are for you. Tell us the nuts. We've got to talk about that real quick. Yeah, why are nuts bad? Because the average American diet, and I was talking about this with a friend of mine, max lugavere today the average american diet is highest in omega-6s which come from grain antibiotic meats and all that crap but also nuts and seeds are really high in omega-6s but is that
Starting point is 00:28:11 the reason why everybody is so high in that is from the nuts or is it from the meats well it's a combination and many other things that from the oils that we're getting in our diet like if you even if you go to whole foods and you get a chicken or whatever that's has the oils it's canola oil canola oil is so high in omega-6 as well so when you're comp when you when you have a combination day of canola oil nuts and seeds and you're eating like bad meat whatever you're getting a lot of omega-6s and you're barely getting any threes so like grass-fed pasture-raised meats and eggs as well as wild fish you're getting your threes so to be able to get that more into your diet and less of the sixes will put your ratio more and more closer to one to one which the
Starting point is 00:28:53 average is 40 to 1 6 to 3 so when you're at 40 to 1 6 to 3 your inflammation is through the roof once you start to bring that back and that's why all the doctors are saying oh take a fish oil if you have inflammation it's because it's narrowing that field it's creating that type of um chemistry in your body right so that's a big problem for so are you saying when i'm bloated if i take a fish oil will i be less bloated no bloating is going to be a whole another ball game okay yeah all right fine so lately zach's been bringing his lunch to work savage i know isn't he savage um but if people want to do that like what what do you suggest like what kind of meat like what do you look for when you're grocery shopping for your lunches it they're making this meal the night before and
Starting point is 00:29:45 then they're going to have it for lunch the next day and there's a refrigerator so it's not just sitting somewhere there's a refrigerator it's all that it's a really nice office uh i think if you're going to have animal protein on a regular basis i mean you don't have to have it for every meal that's the thing it's like a lot of people work really well and i just started doing a lot of research on this one guy um stephen gundry this doctor who wrote this book called the plant paradox and he's a firm believer that you don't need any more than like one flat like flesh meal a day or animal protein meal a day he doesn't say you shouldn't have it he's like not telling people to go vegan but if you're having that one meal maybe it's at lunch or dinner
Starting point is 00:30:24 especially when it comes to digestion the the best would be to like have any type of ground meat so everything from chicken turkey lamb bison beef um and then you can even switch it up and have days where you you know you might need a couple protein meals that day so having something like that cooking it the night before bringing it to work the next day with some cruciferous vegetables whether you steamed and sauteed broccoli brussels sprouts cauliflower any of those things or you made like a you know salad and brought it with certain types of dressing um and then had you can even have like a breakfast for dinner with like eggs and i'm i really like having three uh eggs over easy at night sometimes with like fermented vegetables and and some type
Starting point is 00:31:13 of green but i feel like that's like the extreme extreme yeah that's the extreme and for people to you know and and i can't say that i cook every night either i don't like i end up at air one a lot of the time because i'm making my own stuff if i make if i bake all day long and make a bunch of desserts the last thing i want to do is also make myself lunch or dinner and then clean up after after myself so instead i'll go and get a plate but it's the same rules apply for me all the time i i always try to get a really good cruciferous vegetable um that's broken down in some type of way because a lot of those cruciferous vegetables need to be steamed or sauteed or get the fibrous walls broken down to actually absorb the nutrients as opposed to having those raw so
Starting point is 00:32:02 especially if you have issues with digestion like stay away from raw vegetables especially kale and broccoli and obviously brussels sprouts i don't know anybody that is dumb enough to eat raw brussels sprouts even though you can go to like restaurants and they have like shaved raw brussels sprouts as a dish and you're like huh nah what about the time that they wanted me to drink liquid collagen and the whole bottle's still in my fridge and i drank it for like a day or like chlorophyll what about all those like moon dust all the powders like what powder things should we be adding or do you think it's just bullshit like supplements like collagen can you drink collagen yeah of course do you think it makes a difference yes i i use a powdered collagen
Starting point is 00:32:49 you are very beautiful thank you intermission um yeah bulletproof collagen is the collagen that i use all the time but i i think people really like the vital proteins collagen as well they're both really good um you can throw that into all different types of smoothies it really doesn't have a taste so it's easy to hide in your food i even will throw a couple tablespoons of that after i've made like some type of ground meat i'll throw a couple to like make it creamier you can throw a couple tablespoons of that into the meat afterwards and there's just so many ideas you could use with collagen into bone broth and enhancing that um but it's definitely great for the skin joints hair it's overall really really amazing for stabilizing your blood sugar
Starting point is 00:33:42 too it's a great source of protein that doesn't take a lot of digestion it's usually like i think they say it's seven times pre-digested so it's a pretty much a fermented food in my opinion you can put that in water and drink a couple tablespoons of that and you'll be held over you won't even realize it we're very basic we know we talked about this a little bit coconut oil on your skin in your hair in your body it's a yay yeah yeah you can put coconut oil well you can use it for everything what do you think about when we put on tampons and put it up our vaginas smart right yeah why not it's antibacterial and fungal and all that so that's why it worked jack i know smart okay how do we get pooping more that's a that's a process definitely if you're
Starting point is 00:34:29 not especially if you're constipated yeah yeah which most girls are coffee yeah what is what why is it that most women are and not so much you never hear men being like oh i'm so constipated bro we have a bunch of other things going on i think for a lot of my friends who get constipated when becca's opposite i'm the opposite i don't know a day i haven't pooped seriously but like normal like a couple times two three times a day what one i have like one good one oh nobody what you know when i was at my cleanse they said that you're supposed to be pooping three times a day and i was like excuse me what i'm like one if i'm lucky if you're lucky exactly because of coffee if i didn't drink coffee it would never happen i'm on the squatty potty i'm trying it out
Starting point is 00:35:11 going to the bathroom has a lot to do with both your good and bad battle going on between your good and bad bacteria as well as stomach acid and your bile and all that so if all that's screwed up and then your hormones are screwed up yeah the last thing you're going to be doing is evacuating because you're toxic and all the toxins want to stay in and have a party in your body so which can create a lot of issues eventually i mean one of the most toxic things to yourself is to not go to the bathroom every day because we're bombarded by environmental toxins just alone every day. So we're all getting them. Even if I eat the cleanest I could eat in the next year, I still detox myself and take a bunch of stuff good for my liver and my probiotics
Starting point is 00:36:05 for my gut and prebiotics and all that stuff because you just never know the world is falling apart and we're all getting the backlash of that. So if you compound that with your Skittles every night or every other night you're really fighting an uphill battle you're really fighting death sentence via skittles because that's going to create a big imbalance in your microbiome and once that's off that's the hardest thing to get back on track and that's the number one thing that's going to cause you to have bloating acid reflex not go to the bathroom all that stuff stems from an imbalance in the gut and it starts with having way too much carbohydrates and sugars because those that's what that it feeds that and once it gets going and the candida starts to
Starting point is 00:36:50 flourish in your body and it literally is having a party it's so happy when you eat when you feed it more sugar and carbohydrates it's like ready to go but if you starve it for a while and you do certain things to you know cleanse yourself of yeast and and bacterias then you you can be on your way to start pooping again what should girls be taking like a probiotic or it's a prebiotic too prebiotics are the foods that feed probiotics so if you're only taking a probiotic say you're taking a probiotic that's 50 billion right you're like oh i'm taking 50 billion a night this should go well that goes like that our body you'll lose 50 billion probiotic bacteria and traffic screaming at somebody stress kills probiotics so if what shit yeah so if you're super stressed all
Starting point is 00:37:40 the time friends are always constipated it's true probably why i can see and you gotta because what happens is if you're feeding yourself good prebiotics all the time your probiotics will constantly be multiplying so they're they're gonna take over the terrain and fight off bad bacteria on a regular basis so a prebiotic is like a pill there is a really or can we talk supplements on this yeah yeah okay there is there is a really amazing prebiotic that i found from this company called arthur andrews medical um it's called floriphage and it multiplies your probiotic bacteria 24 times okay as well as eats your bad bacteria at the same time and leaves your good bacteria so you have one of those along with a good probiotic i really like vsl3 or
Starting point is 00:38:29 megaspore biotics which are more of the high-end ones for people that are going through a friend of ours me and becca's is going through some stuff with her gut and like sebo and that kind of stuff and she started taking some of these things to the high end but if you're just taking even probiotic foods in on a regular basis from sauerkraut to coconut you know the coconut yogurts and kefirs and does coconut yogurt have the same prebiotics like as regular yogurt i think the coconut yogurt nowadays if you were to like walk into a store it would be better for you to get than the the milk based one because it's probably going to be pasteurized and you'd rather have it come from coconut than dairy okay yeah the last thing i wanted to ask you is a question
Starting point is 00:39:15 that we got a lot um and i think it's something that a lot of women struggle with especially because of like our hormone cycles is just the binge eating of it all. It's like, I don't know about you guys, like day one through day 10 of my cycle, I'm like, I'm so healthy. I'm eating breakfast, lunch, dinner. Look at me sautéing my cruciferous vegetables. Crosby's so happy. And then after that, it like completely goes to shit.
Starting point is 00:39:38 And by the time I'm like close to my period, I'm like, I'm absolutely eating 15 Pop-Tarts for dinner and then nothing else the rest of the day. Do you guys do that? Oh, yeah. I PMS it so bad. Yeah. Yeah. So binge eating, how do we, you know, we need to eat. Obviously we always joke on this podcast. We're like everyone in Hollywood isn't eating, which is probably like 50 true, kind of
Starting point is 00:39:57 true. But the rest, our girls, we want them to eat, you know, it's healthy to eat and feel your body. So, you know, can you just talk about how you can help yourself grab this cupcake instead of like, like your sweet potato? Yeah. When it comes to food, start to look for certain alternatives if you're making your way from 7-eleven food in the next step is like a chocolate bar that might have coconut nectar in it from trader joe's like you're making progress if you're that that type of person that's going to make its next step to like an air one or whole foods and find something that's sweetened with monk fruit or erythritol or something like that then there's your next step so there are sweet alternatives and more and more coming out out there as well
Starting point is 00:40:44 is like recipes and stuff if you go to any new age food bloggers website and check out their recipes from everybody from that's doing paleo and sugar-free vegan and and keto and these things they have really cool recipes and a lot of them have stuff for like the normal soccer mom out there that can't get astragalus and all these chinese herbs that people are working with in la and they're like well why can't i just use oh oh they have i have coconut oil and i have cacao powder well i can make some type of brownie or chocolate recipe um to create you know seeing that you need to be more aware of your hormones and watching what you eat on a regular basis and how that changes your hormones and seeing somebody and asking questions whether it be going to see
Starting point is 00:41:32 somebody that is more into like the chinese medical field because i think that that field the eastern side really knows a lot about how to get your hormones back into balance through herbs and certain things and eating certain ways. Those all have a lot to do with balancing your hormones back out. So like if I have horrible PMS and I want to have salty and sweet, like first I'm going to eat a bag of Doritos. Then I'm going to eat my Skittles. What would be like your go-to, like a beet chip?
Starting point is 00:42:07 What would be your go-to salty, like can grab it at Trader Joe's? There's Trader Joe's everywhere. I saw there's this new chip out there from a company called Siete. No. It has to be from Trader Joe's. They might have it. Talk to the regular girl. They might have it.
Starting point is 00:42:22 Okay. I don't know. Maybe. What's it made of? It's like cassava flour, and they use pink sea salt. Okay. They're delicious. But yeah, there's sweet potato chips out there with sea salt.
Starting point is 00:42:35 What about the sweet potato fry? The other thing is I think those- Sweet potato fry? The people that are really having issues and are craving foods usually have strong adrenal burnout. And the one thing that a lot of these women have in common when I talk to them is either they restrict salt or they do hot yoga or they do both. And all of a sudden they like have no minerals left in their body and they're like walking
Starting point is 00:42:59 around like a zombie. And that's when you binge. It's like if you're just keeping up on a regular basis with the needs of your body, one thing literally is salt and people restrict don't be afraid of salt like if you can get anything from this podcast like don't be afraid of salt obviously don't go to a restaurant and just have any type of salty food yeah because they're not using sea salt pink salt those things but salt your food um find a good like mineral supplement put it in your water we're getting stripped on a regular basis all day long of that of minerals and so if you're doing that
Starting point is 00:43:40 you can kind of keep yourself pretty level-headed throughout the day um that controls your blood pressure a lot of women have really low blood pressure and i always be like well do you eat do you like salty food and they're like oh my god no i stay away from salt and like why like oh because it causes water weight it's like no exactly the opposite bad salt does good salt actually will flush the water that your body doesn't need because everything that you're eating on a regular basis that's a good nutrient for you as long as you're getting it your body won't hold on to it as soon as you restrict it your body will hold on to it so if you're not eating good fats all the time what does your body hold on to fat if you're not getting good minerals
Starting point is 00:44:21 and salt on a regular basis what does your body hold on to water weight it's just like our bodies are only designed to survive they're miracle things that are only designed to survive and we treat them like they're i don't even like weird barbie cutouts that were all we care about is what it looks like all the time we don't realize that the only thing going on in our body intuitively is survive survive survive survive so that's exactly what fight or flight is is when you're not doing something that your body feels like is keeping it safe it'll go right into a fight or flight response and you'll be stressed all the time on that note right i did everybody held their breath the whole time i was talking during that as well because we're listening i had a
Starting point is 00:45:07 doctor tell me because i have low blood pressure that was like a year ago and he was like oh do you eat a lot of salt and i was like well not like really more than the average woman which is like nothing he's like you need to salt all of your foods right because i had such low energy yeah and i suddenly started to feel so much better also if you start to you know not eat as many carbohydrates and sugars yeah your body actually depletes sodium tremendously so which is why when you go keto for like a week you can dry out and lean out really fast because you're just like peeing all the time and you're getting rid of all your water weight yeah but what will eventually happen is you'll be sitting there and you'll stand up from a chair and faint and literally like
Starting point is 00:45:48 almost faint because your blood pressure is so low. And you're like, Oh wow. Like the only reason I know any of this is because I've been there. Yeah. I've literally been there. I walked around when I was modeling in New York, I walked around New York restricting all the things that are really actually good for you. I didn't know at the time I was just like, well, all I got to do is look like this for this photo. And that's my only, my only job. And I never thought about the way I felt and i ran on caffeine and it was terrible i ran my adrenals to the ground and it began kind of my journey to find what made me tick inside and and made me aesthetically the way i wanted to look outside but it started from the inside and i was like i'm not gonna only focus on
Starting point is 00:46:36 the outside even though that's how i make money right now and how i survive i still have to be feeding you know my longevity so that i'm here in 10 years when you know some people they really can like put themselves in a in a rough place when they have a nutritional deficit of anything yeah so now i'm scared i know but like the 86 year old man said the key to life yeah i'm giving not giving a shit that guy you're like thank you so much for being crosby we like the old guy it was my favorite advice I am going to not saute with my olive oil anymore
Starting point is 00:47:17 you learned one thing I learned a lot today when we come back, Crosby is successful and hot and he's going to help you figure out your life before we start, ask the lady gang if you guys want 20% off at jackvanek.com use code LADYGANG and there's lots of things and t-shirts and mugs and stuff about eating junk food on there so
Starting point is 00:47:45 perfect for this episode very topical so for this part of the podcast you're gonna help us answer questions from our lady gang are you ready we're ready he's instagram storing right now or something um trying to stay on top of the story stay on it stay on it our first question comes from danielle and it's a great question she says do you think joining a polyamorous relationship would be healthy or draining for me i don't know what that is i copy and pasted this oh so it's like sister wives kind of but it aren't there there's like it's not many people well i was answering this question i think hold on jordan our intern knows jordan come on the microphone she goes to usc and she's young she's very smart it's like what all the kids are doing these days so my
Starting point is 00:48:29 friend derrick may or may not be in one right now he doesn't know he doesn't so he doesn't know his girlfriend cheating on him and no his girlfriend did he in a polyamorous relationship okay well they're not boyfriend and girlfriend she he is seeing her regularly but she is in a polyamorous relationship so she has multiple partners which she is with regularly right he is one of them but i don't and this is a debate in our friend group whether or not derek is in a polyamorous relationship because if you're involved with one person like does that mean that you're involved in the relationship and my opinion is no. His penis is. For him
Starting point is 00:49:09 it's not. For her it is. For her it is but he's not involved romantically or sexually with any of the other partners. So for him it's not poly it's mono. I think polyamorous is if you're all involved. Thank you Jordan and thank you for your service to the Lady Gang this summer.
Starting point is 00:49:25 He needs to get out of this. Derek I'm sorry but that's terrible. Derek don't do it. Why isn't Derek not dating you? okay okay never mind her face says it all i think polyamorous is when everybody's involved with everybody okay i think no or else you're just in an open relationship i think it sounds draining danielle sounds draining i have a friend that's in one and it works for her but it's like i'm too jealous of a person to even like think about doing anything like that so yeah i mean i
Starting point is 00:49:56 know of a guy that's in one and he's very open about it and he's actually has a very successful business um he runs like a huge supplement company and he raves about it but i feel like there's an very interesting evolution to the maybe the people that went in and joined that together like male and female that decided oh yeah this is going to be okay for us right because like you said yeah of course all different types of emotions are going to get involved ego is still it's still going to be there your ego is still so involved even if you're like oh this is going to be awesome for all of us so great yeah i it's a no from you but it's yeah i'm not other people too in the relationship yeah okay so they're all one becca you down entity no definitely not do
Starting point is 00:50:51 you think it's she's got a fat rock on her why don't you just but here's the other part like why not just be dating unexclusively like if you want to have i sound like an old judgmental lady right now but it's like if i what isn't this the bottom line that like one person is not enough for these people they need like you know a group of people do what i did when i was single you know well you could go back to the ancient times when this when we wouldn't be talking about monogamy you would be like monogamy what yeah like that's what how everybody lived like there were but like why but it does sound so draining to have to like deal with so many people seriously the best part about being single was that you like didn't have to take on other people's
Starting point is 00:51:37 bullshit emotional baggage yeah okay right sounds like a nightmare because energetically you're getting everyone's energy no matter if you like it or not if you're having sex with all those people like that those energies are in you now and there's got to be one person you like better than the rest of them so it's literally all inside you also that sounds like a mess that sounds like a disaster it's a constant checkup sounds like a constant blister you're at the med clinic like every three days okay on that note our second question comes from we're old amanda yeah we're pulling it for it amanda says up until today i've been studying in a graduate program that my whole heart was not invested in. I always figured I was quote unquote stuck
Starting point is 00:52:21 because I didn't know what else I could do. Recently, I discovered your podcast and you've truly inspired me to carve my own path and find what makes me happy rather than just follow what has been set out for me. You're so great, Amanda. I want to be a boss lady just like y'all. The only issue is I have no idea what career path I want to take. Any suggestions on how to find my way or any books that are particularly interesting or advice you have gotten at a similar time in your own lives. I recently heard something that was crazy enlightening. I'm not going to say where because it's embarrassing. But this person said that when she was younger, she used to do like a vision board and like really put it out there what she wanted. It was like specific jobs, specific
Starting point is 00:53:02 honors, people, whatever. And now she does a thing where she puts it out there and writes down what feeling she wants to get like she's she's seeking out a feeling as opposed to a certain like a thing and i think when you're not sure what career path you want to go into start off by like accessing your what you're gonna want your goals for do you want to feel inspired do you want to feel like appreciated do you want to feel creative do you want to feel productive like i think that that's the most important thing and then also just leaving every door open and once you start feeling those things it could be the most random path that you wouldn't have expected but it would have stopped you before if you didn't know to just do that if that made any sense i
Starting point is 00:53:47 couldn't have imagined at 35 or 33 when we started that we would like have gotten together and started this podcast like you know like i feel old and i felt like i already had my career set and this has been like one of the greatest gifts so i think leaving yourself open and if you're a good person you work hard your life will turn out incredible no matter what exact lane you go in and you'll get you'll get so much out of it and i think especially because it's 2017 with social media and with all these small kind of stores that people are starting online and etsy and i don't know what kind of field you want to go in but we have the tools today to be able to start our own businesses and be our own bosses that nobody had even like five or 10 years ago. So I think
Starting point is 00:54:37 whatever it is, even if you started as a hobby or as a blog on the side and really take the time to figure out what you want and keep your doors open, then yeah. I mean, passion leads to purpose. That's a mail message. I'm running. So, so as long as you start to understand or become aware of what you're passionate about on a regular basis like start doing that all the time and eventually you can if you love something you can really turn it into a way to make money look at you right loving it yeah and if that's the case um you like you were saying the world's at your fingertips you have your phone right in front of you if you all of a sudden want you love fashion you want to start a blog i mean there's all these bloggers out there doing it but people are still
Starting point is 00:55:23 coming up and doing it and finding a way to create abundance in their life um but it all started with having a passion for something and maybe that passion you know there's totally all different types of ways to create passion in your life from from amused to just being inspired on a regular basis by yourself i don't know but but definitely find out figure out what your passion is totally last question elizabeth says i'm 22 years old and i've been dating my boyfriend for six months now three months into the relationship he was accepted into the canadian army kelsey oh snap do they have one i don't know well they're called the peacekeepers i think are you joking no i know they're called the peacekeepers we don't really have an army you don't do anything you
Starting point is 00:56:10 just sit around and give each other compliments you can do massage trains all right well her boyfriend got into the peacekeeper army massage train army and he left for basic training whatever that means we've done the long distance thing for months now but i'm a television production graduate i'm starting to look for jobs in my field if i go where i want to work there's a good chance i won't be able to live in the same city as my army guy how do i decide what to do when it comes to balancing work in my career and keeping the only guy to ever make me feel good enough oh can it work long distance if you want it to it definitely can i mean i'm married to someone who i did not know if we would ever live in the same city but i like had a feeling
Starting point is 00:56:52 and i liked it and i didn't want to you know leave it and so you just sort of like i don't you're 22 also and life is long so continue until you feel like maybe you're not as happy or maybe you're too sad or maybe it's just you you know he's also in the canadian army i feel like he probably gets a lot of vacation you're so mean you're a dick no what wars have you fought lately canada oh wait none no the canadian army and the peacekeepers and stuff they do a lot of relief efforts and i'm only talking shit about canada because of kelty i love canada it's just so funny to make fun of It's true. It's so easy.
Starting point is 00:57:33 But yeah, I think that like, but also definitely don't let what he's doing stifle what you're doing because that's a big one. And I think that that was a balance that I had to figure out for myself. And you will too, if you want to. I love that. And you're only 22. So I think, you know, you do you and if he can fit into your life that you're doing as you great, but don't sacrifice and don't spend so much time like not having a life because
Starting point is 00:57:58 you're sitting at home on Saturday night, FaceTiming him, like go live your life. because you'll regret that one day too. Yeah, and just like stay very aware to how you feel and if it ends up being too frustrating or too much or annoying that he's in Canada, then, you know.
Starting point is 00:58:11 Crosby can't answer this because he only dates models. Yeah, totally. You're out. Crosby's out. No, we love Crosby so much, Crosby. On our Instagram, you can watch him make ice cream with me.
