Welcome to the Lady gang that's amazing say that again the lady gang things are about to change around here each week we catch up with hollywood's hottest girl posse kelty knight becca tobin and jack vanik
Starting point is 00:02:01 hello hello hello welcome to lady gang i am becca tobin here with jack vanik and kelty knight hello guys how are you what's up what are you eating i'm having a halls because i a little bit of a coughle coughle coughle i'm sure the listeners love to hear you moving your hauls around your teeth i was thinking that earlier i know it's like the whole time we've been podcasting oh or i'll choke so you're welcome just keep it in your in your cheek like a little chipmunk chipmunk okay um you guys are you ready do we want to do it yeah it's time all right it's time for good week yes it is bad week oh no i'm so excited yeah yes okay okay yes You guys, bad week.
Starting point is 00:02:45 I got bejeweled into going to a PR company showroom. You got what? Bejeweled? I got bejeweled into doing the thing that I hate that I had signed off of doing for such a long time and then somehow got bejeweled back into going to a PR house showroom for a little shop. Oh, God. so what happens you guys out there in the world is that a lot of times brands will like send you you know they're like hey we want you to wear this on their instagram or use it on your instagram or
Starting point is 00:03:15 cook with it or whatever so they'll send you like a little pr package which is so lovely and it's a great form of marketing and it really works and then these packages come from showrooms so they have like showrooms and there's fashion showrooms and like um product showrooms and whatever and like there used to be a thing when i first started insider where i'd get invited to the showrooms and they would be like come in and just pick out whatever you want it's like a little mini gifting yeah yeah and at the time you're like well this is so great because i have zero dollars and like this is going to be amazing and anything helps and i'll take whatever you know yeah really in what i would call like my free shit era yes and then i got out of my free shit era and i was like
Starting point is 00:03:52 it's not worth nothing is free nothing's free and it's not worth the like humility of having to show up and like be like can i have this can i have this like it's a 19 tank top i could have just Like, you know, like all the hounding and it's just so like so much. And I was like, no, from now on, I'm going to buy things I wear or I'm going to rent them from rent them from showrooms where I pay and I don't have to tag you if I don't want to. So like that was my new era in my bitch era. And then I saw this owner of a PR company and she's amazing. She has the best PR company in L.A. Oh, and I was like, yeah, I'm going.
Starting point is 00:04:25 And she's usually come by the showroom. Great. Go to the showroom. And I instantly was remembered. Why? first of all almost everything there was a lady gang sponsor oh my god i do not need a free pair of rothy shoes i'll tell you right now i can get a rothy shoe tomorrow um but what it what it is is like even when you're in the showrooms and i totally respect the business of this there's like
Starting point is 00:04:48 this showroom in particular tiers it to where if you're important enough they take you to the good brands but you know i know exactly who this is it's my biggest pet peeve with this for this pr fashion place so if you're like a celebrity they take you to the best brands if you're like an influencer like i've literally been because i've literally been on every scale of whatever that is i've been shown places in the showroom that i've not been shown since that i know are still there and brands that used to get offered to me by these people are no longer offered to me but offered to others and then i get offered shitty things like $19 tank tops so this is what happened I went on the loser route at the PR company and I knew it was the owner that invited you there.
Starting point is 00:05:31 And I knew as I was doing it, that I was on the loser route because I saw the sneaker company that I, I saw on Instagram. I was like, wow, they really repping these really good brands. Yeah. I should like, do I have time in this? No, I have four jobs. I'm, you know, I was like, I don't have time to do this and I don't really need this. I can just buy the sneakers online if I want them so bad, but I was like, fine. Yeah, I'll go. It's a nice invite. And I am so thankful. And I'm going to wear the shit out of my j crew you better believe that but I went and I was like as I was going I noticed there was like a whole area that I wasn't being shown I was on the loser route and I left feeling so defeated and I was like Kelty don't do this to yourself anymore yeah like don't
Starting point is 00:06:12 try to matter in a world that you don't matter you're not an it girl you're not cool you're not like none of that is real you are there I saw this Taylor Swift clip where she was like I'm not it girl, cool. She's like, I am creative and smart and whatever. And like, I'm done. That was the final straw. Cause I'm moving into this era of my life where I was like, I really want to be like it. Cause I'm having this moment. I'm trying to have this moment, but like, no Kelty, you're going to create shit. You're going to make money cause you're smart and you're creative and you have good work ethic, but like, you're never going to be cool. No one's ever going to be like, you know who we should send this to is you. And that's fine. So thank you for having me.
Starting point is 00:06:52 It was a great finale. I will never be back. I'm not doing it anymore. She wants to do her podcast. I'm done. No, of course not. No way. I stopped doing that shit after the final time when I had that exact same experience.
Starting point is 00:07:03 That is so crazy. It's crazy. I'm like, you guys, stop being so obvious about what this is. Call it two different showrooms at least or something. Separate them. Yeah. Whatever it is. Don't walk me by the stuff that I want and just like act like it's not there.
Starting point is 00:07:17 I'm like, I can see it. They literally have forever 21 there and they literally only give it to you if you're, they, they, they only give that to us. Yeah. To Kulti. It was wild. And J.Crew. I'm excited about J.Crew.
Starting point is 00:07:27 I love J.Crew, but I also would rather just fucking buy it. I'd rather buy it than have to like, I'm like, I can get this vest. Anyway, long story short. Okay. Good, good week. I got a new name for the lady gang. Someone DM'd me this. It's not just a podcast.
Starting point is 00:07:42 It's a whorecast. The whore, like a whorecast. Like what's in the forecast? Oh, the whorecast. What's coming up on our forecast is a... I don't think we're allowed to use whore anymore, are we? Not even if it's a pun? Well, we used ho-ment.
Starting point is 00:07:59 Yeah. I think whore is, like, more aggressive. People, like, don't really... But we can call ourselves whores, I think. Yeah, you just can't call somebody a whore. This is our personal whorecast that we approve and are okay with. What is the whorecast saying for today? It's saying, bitchy with a side of sass.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Great. Love it. Jack? okay so um i don't really know if this is a good week or a bad week but i'm no no i'm gonna say okay i'm having deja vu this is a good week because we finally sent all of our rsvps out to for the wedding and basically everybody rsvp'd yes wait i didn't get it you told no we didn't send our invites out for the oh i just got nervous that i was a bad guest and didn't officially RSVP.
Starting point is 00:08:46 No, but like I know your text. Okay, okay. I was like, oh no, I'm doing the thing that I hate. No. Basically, well, because we told everybody. We're like, this is basically the invitation. Go to the website and like let us know and then the official invitations will come out. We were assuming that like a good 30%
Starting point is 00:09:03 would shit your bum. So now there's too many people for the Chateau that we're renting out. So it's very, now we're stuck in like a tetris game of trying to fit everybody into the chateau so good week because at least people love us enough to come to france for our wedding but bad week because now that how many spillover do you have uh 15 i think oh i was gonna say if it was a couple you could probably roll the
Starting point is 00:09:30 dice because some people will fall out yeah no well 15 is a lot but does that like seven rooms like couples well some of it's like family that's like random cousins coming and stuff we'll figure it out but it was funny because we're so scared because i'm like if i can't fill up the chateau i'm gonna have to pay the difference and like blah blah blah so it's crazy and everybody wants to come to france so that is then how do you decide who's in the chateau and who's not where that's the problem well i think we're putting some family like if you need us we can i'll go to the hilton i got points is there a hilton unfortunately there's nothing around there and you guys are in the chateau i have a tent no we could bunk together together i'm not having sex
Starting point is 00:10:11 anyone is chris coming yeah i mean we could share a room it's two nights yeah is there a double queen room uh actually look i don't know if there's any more we already have like a bunch of our couple friends like smashing into one room but we'll figure it out okay well but anyways it's crazy because i was scared that nobody i have the fear that like nobody's gonna come to my birthday party like always always so um that was i mean good at least that's good and bad good i understand why you couldn't find the category for it um my bad week is so i've been posting our engagement photos and i've been doing tiktoks about it and like blah blah blah trying to get the engagement up you know whatever yeah one of them went viral and the reason why it went viral is because
Starting point is 00:10:55 everybody thought that it was a video because it goes moment versus the picture so it's like a video and then the pictures yeah everybody thought that the video was ally and aj like the singers wait i know the sisters yes oh my god is this on your instagram yeah it's on my tiktok oh they're like i they're like the way that i thought this was a new ally and aj promo oh well i mean jared has beautiful hair yeah beautiful and it was like it's from far away we're like sitting on chairs like in the ocean and the waves are like crashing on us and we're both kind of like moving our heads back and forth so it does look like their vibe right now it's not like a close-up and it was literally hundreds of comments being like like this if you thought it was ali and aj and it's
Starting point is 00:11:41 like 2 000 likes on the comment i love this so much it's jared's it's the bane of his existence his hair is just too beautiful too beautiful zach did look at me yesterday he was scrolling on his phone he's like i hope we do get to see some some engagement photos from jack and jerry well you know i have to milk it i told him i go listen this is what the disclaimer i have to tell all the people that i love in my life and i say mute me if you need to but i'm doing what i gotta do for me i gotta do it you know it's getting the engagement up brands want to be a part of it again my my first thought this is so funny that's your first thought my first thought was wow if jack put the amount of effort she put into these photos into anything relating lady gang even just
Starting point is 00:12:20 one time she's a true content creator i know i know that that ocean photo shoot with the suits is it good it's incredible directed by yours truly incredible it was beautiful thanks guys well don't worry you're gonna see 400 more of them yeah well now the worst part is not the worst part for everybody what so my best friend alexis her uh boyfriend is a photographer so these pictures were taken and then he offered to just take some more photos oh lord jesus so There's a whole new set of photos that nobody has even thought about seeing yet. So they're coming. Oh, Lord.
Starting point is 00:12:55 They're coming. This is your karma, though, because I feel like there's been people that we and you specifically have really gone hard on and been like, enough already. And then I was like. I thought about that. Yeah. And then I was thinking about your engagement photos. Then I was like, OK, we still got a while till the wedding. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:12 And then we've got the wedding photos, which are going to trickle. People really like to trickle. Two years. And then a honeymoon. moon i'm like we are so yeah inundated oh yeah sorry guys meet me if you want there was a post and i you'll appreciate this and maybe you've already seen it but there was a post somebody made they're like you just need to lean into your cringe because your followers that love you are gonna like love it and then everybody else that hates it wasn't a good person anyways well
Starting point is 00:13:38 for to follow you yeah i've been leaning into my cringe for years no i know you didn't need to be told actually this is a great segue into my bad week okay um i don't post that regularly and when i do it's like kind of my audience is the opposite they're like if you lean in too much we're gone like we like the bare minimum we like it because they're beccas they are me and so i posted something bare minimum and i put and like they also are so me because so many of them don't have the time or they don't want to comment they don't want to engage because we are the same I don't want to have to tell you I liked your photo I want you to assume I saw it and it's a kumbaya we're moving forward I love you um having to try to explain this to a social agency
Starting point is 00:14:25 my engagement is low because they just know they don't have to like they just know so um what happens is I post something and it gets a few comments because there's still some women out there who follow me with a little bit of energy and time but the ones that really crush when i get a lot of comments it's because kelty has said something in the comments and literally her stands are replying to her being like kelty crying laughing face not even having to do with my caption or my video it's what kelty commented on so your stands go so hard that they comment on your comments on other people's pages yeah and i was like this loser who are you yeah i get comments like that too being like i wonder what kelty thinks about this i'm like this is a picture
Starting point is 00:15:12 of me and jared it's so good it's so good it's so true okay here's my good week and i hate that it has to do with someone that we've been really harping on well we me i got annoyed with ben affleck as you guys all know i'm very irritated with him yeah and the lies he's spreading yeah but i also heard him say something on a podcast that really resonated with me so he's back in good graces okay if you get asked to do something in six months in a year in a week only say yes to that thing if you were going to say yes if it was tomorrow so only say yes to something if it's something i have such a problem only say yes to something if it's if it was something that was happening tomorrow and you would genuinely say yes to wanting to do it okay does that make sense
Starting point is 00:15:58 no it is because everybody this is the problem with everybody is they'll say yes to plans and And then when it comes time to do it, it's like something about you will be different at that point. Yeah. That sounds good in the future. You don't have to worry about life. That's rude. I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:16:12 No, this happens to me all the time because people are like, will you come to my charity event? I was like, of course I'll be there because it's in July. And then July comes and I was like, what am I doing on a Tuesday night at 1130 PM at a silent auction? Like, yeah, no, it's true. Sometimes now I've been doing that. So whatever it is that I get asked to do, I take a moment and I think if this were tomorrow,
Starting point is 00:16:32 would i say yes or no gotta tell you the no's are plenty yeah yes rolling up nobody wants but you know time like kelsey said in a previous episode it's all we really need it's all we have and we're giving it away at silent auctions all right let's get into our episode when we come back we're going to spend some time if you're looking for a great gift for mother's day or really for anyone in your life i strongly recommend story worth they've been a sponsor of lady king for years ever since they were sponsored around christmas time a few years ago i gave my mom one and it's one of my favorite things so story worth is the coolest thing it's like this little online prompt series where you gift it to your loved one and every week for a year story where
Starting point is 00:17:13 sends them an email and asks them a question like what's the bravest thing you've ever done in your life what would you want to find out what are you scared of what's one memory of me as a child or whatever and you can pick what questions that get sent to them and then at the end of it they take all of your parents or loved ones husbands in-laws nieces nephews stories and they put them together in this beautiful beautiful book this keepsake book and like honestly i feel so much comfort having all of my mom's biggest stories and like this memoir of her life with me that i'll have forever so give all the moms in your life a unique heartfelt gift that you'll all cherish for years story worth right now for a limited time you'll save ten dollars on your first purchase when you

Starting point is 00:20:14 burke and you've also seen him judge world of dance with j-lo no big deal and then he returned to be a judge on dancing with the stars we really needed him but when he isn't dancing singing or acting yep you've seen him in harry potter he's also new york times best-selling author for his memoir taking the lead please welcome to the podcast derrick huff yeah hello hi ladies how are you long time long time so many accolades i know my god you probably feels like she's inadequate that was that was an intro it was an intro thank you appreciate that but here's the thing the thing for me is like i know everyone knows you from dancing with the stars obviously but for me it's world of dance like that show was so good and i will eat anything j-lo cooks like i
Starting point is 00:20:58 just think and the funniest thing is that it's still like so popular online like i'm always watching the clips on tiktok of like people's performances and my favorite thing is i'll just hear like a like ow or like like it's like you don't hear the actual like uh judges like critiques because the the performance is going but they had them do what like they did it like showstopper dance competition jack you won't know this but like they record you while they're doing the competition and then they're like make sure you pull up on your releve make sure you do this and then just like oh yes work and it's just derek's voice going work like on tiktok yeah the thing with me especially with royal dance i literally couldn't contain myself i i was so just loving
Starting point is 00:21:41 everything i was watching in front of me i just i'm just a very vocal person and uh physical so i you know i'm i'm jumping on the table making sounds and by the way it was the first time i've ever like watched myself watch something else so all those reactions and facial expressions were also kind of like new to me i was like well i make that face when i watch something oh my god but um it was it was such a great show it's like when you sit too close at a concert and then you end up having to like perform for the person doing the concert and you're fully aware like you're suddenly very aware of how you're dancing and singing along and the faces you're making it's i i would not be able to do it that makes a lot of sense the artist kind of looks at you like
Starting point is 00:22:18 yeah i'm enjoying myself yeah look don't worry reba i'm here i'm with you girl i love it well we're gonna get to uh to tour and the fact that you speaking of live shows have some stuff cooking but i want to talk about wedding first because jack is jack is our bride to be in the lady gang we are getting married all of us together jack france in september um do you guys have a date uh we do we have a date we have a date we have venue we have um lost our minds um it's it's it's gonna be great it's everything starts it seems to be like falling in place we're looking at like wedding furniture and all the stuff all the different things um it's really exciting it's really exciting and uh yeah man well i'm on
Starting point is 00:23:10 just back up for a second you're getting married in in france yeah we're renting out like a big chateau we only have 60 people coming because okay i have a very hard line of people i care about in my life so we're renting out like a whole chateau mostly because it's cheaper than getting married in the states um but it's also just like so beautiful there but absolutely um i have a question for you are you like involved in the process at all like where is your where do you fall because you're a creative genius three times i have to say i have to say i'm i'm pretty involved i'm pretty involved um probably more than most i would say to be honest with you um you know we've gone to the venues i'm there i like i said we went to this
Starting point is 00:23:52 like furniture thing looking at furniture and um i'm making phone calls you know to to people co-calling people for certain venues and places like a welcome party you know there's this beautiful place that we found that was just like it's like this it's it's unbelievable it's just crazy i can't explain it but um but uh it's one of those things where like okay that's not really in our range of what we can possibly do for a welcome party but i just called the guy and he picked up and then now our best friends and now we're gonna fly out there and check out the place and so yeah i'm very i'm very involved there's certain things where i'm just like hey babe just don't let don't even let me know just just do that you know but smart but um but as far as
Starting point is 00:24:34 the photographer and the videographer and the lighting and the all that the production part of it um i certainly will be very much involved with for sure are you guys gonna do a dance a choreographed dance no they already talked about i listen i already looked this up the answer he has the answer but you can tell them you can tell them well no i mean so i listen yes we'll do a first dance but it won't be what i think what people will expect i think people will expect you know a spectacle i suppose yeah like i want disney fairy tale weddings christmas special whatever you guys do every year and she's in the white dress and by the way exactly we do it every year we we have those we have those you know those moments for me the first dance for me is very very
Starting point is 00:25:16 important that it's just um i'm very present and we're just like in we're just it's just the two of us you know what i mean and i think that if we're doing like a choreographed dance you know we're doing it for everybody else we're not doing it for us and i feel like that first dance that first dance is for us is that for that moment but listen that doesn't mean there might not be a up like something later in the night where we might do something who knows a little flash mob or something you know if i'm invited if if i'm someone invited to your wedding and i don't at least get a performance i'm pissed i'm upset yeah i agree but here's here's the thing most people because we're also going to have a relatively small wedding as far as like it's
Starting point is 00:25:54 it's, you know, 110 people. Um, which by the way, what I, what I say that I'm like, wow, that's a lot of people. And every time I say it, I'd be like, that's a really small wedding. Good job. And I'm like, what? That's like, how do I know 110 people? I was like, I know it's crazy. So, um, but, but you know, the majority of them are all, you know, not even who aren't professional performers or dancers or entertainment, but they're in my family and they're all very active and they'll be on the dance floor so derrick we know we watched you since you're 12 we're fine but exactly exactly exactly because i saw this video you posted on your instagram where hayley is like it looks like she's like at williams gnome or something she's like creighton
Starting point is 00:26:36 barrel like looking at china and you you put you recorded this video of her and she's talking to the sales guy and she's like really into it she's wearing her picking out china dress like it is like a beautiful thing and then i'm like okay what's going on here either derrick is bored out of his freaking mind because he's like i actually don't care what china you pick or he's just an awe of how beautiful she is so what was happening in that video i guess it's kind of a bit of both so he so he was our wedding planner she's talking to her wedding planner and that was a place where it was like and that that's a place where it's literally like a um an event furniture what plate for the table at the wedding we're talking we're talking about like
Starting point is 00:27:16 plates silverware chairs chairs tables table cloths textures of tablecloth like all that kind of stuff so but here's the thing for me I feel like I walked in and within 10 minutes I'm like that one that one that one you know what I mean um I just kind of feel like I just I like that one I like that one like that one um but I to be honest with you I was kind of in awe because I love, I do love when she's in that like wedding mode, there's, she does, she starts, she does this a lot when she starts talking about the wedding. The fancy things, the fancy things. She starts, she starts, she starts playing like air piano.
Starting point is 00:27:56 She's just like, she's like, so what we need to do is we need to do one of these things. And I literally just, I'm like, she's, she's never done that ever. And every time when she's like, we sit there and the wedding comes in and she goes, well, so what I think about, and then her, this hand comes in. you know what i like i can feel that that it kind of makes sense i'm like do i do that when i talk about the wedding i'm unsure but i'm gonna definitely do because it kind of it it only makes sense for that because like everything has to be in its own little place and you're suddenly in a hallmark wedding movie yeah she's putting she's she's like placing her she's like
Starting point is 00:28:31 putting her thoughts in an imaginary shelf she's like so basically you're they put it there and Then we put it over there. But what if we just there? Yeah. But actually literally like warm. Like, I love it. It actually makes my heart. I think you would be such a great like I know you'll be a great husband, but I feel like you'd be such a great groom.
Starting point is 00:28:52 The other thing I was going to say, I love a dance at a wedding. I just want to put my vote in that. I still as a former NBA dancer, I do feel like it's a little cringy when the bride was like a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. and she changes into a bridal booty short and does like the bride thing oh right you know and then they do like the they do like the all the girls change and they do like a performance for the guy and i was like it's essentially like doing a lap dance in front of your dad like it's like so like so much booty movement anyway yeah um i'll go on record just say that um i'm almost positive she will not do that she won't be in a booty short are you sure it's just not not her thing
Starting point is 00:29:34 in that way so um but uh but hey there might be one later you know what i'm saying but also like i feel like you guys like no one actually needs to experience that because we just are going to see that on tour and we've seen it on tour and by the way i just want to say something also as a former rockette not that it's about me but there was a spring show at radio city and derek was the lead of it and it was the only year that they had a spring show and that it was successful they tried to do a spring show without derek the next year and then it got canceled like literally you saved the spring show that's how many people love him so i'm not surprised you're going back on tour and i really like the promos for this because i know you play a bunch
Starting point is 00:30:11 bunch of instruments and you um sing and so it's called symphony of dance tell me where that came from yeah so basically um this tour a couple things i haven't been on tour in four years right it's been it's wild to me how long it's been i've had two vegas residencies since then But I haven't been out and seen people and gone out to their cities and been there. And I love tour. I love being on the bus. I love the traveling. So basically, so yes, so the show Symphony of Dance, the reason why the word symphony
Starting point is 00:30:40 kind of came to my mind was one was that symphony is broken up into four parts, right? You have like brass, percussion, strings, wind. And each one of those sort of movements, for me, lends itself to a certain style of dance and emotion and feeling, right? It's like a violin. You have the Argentine tango. you have this percussion latin you know uh brass like big band horns like that kind of like fun vibe which sort of like so for me and as a dancer you know our instruments are our bodies so we play
Starting point is 00:31:09 the symphony we play the music with our bodies so it's this idea of the symphony of dance where um we're hitting on all these different genres of music and styles but there's like this cohesive sort of through line um so it's not going to be like this like orchestral you know production it's going to have rock and roll and all these different things and you know everything's going to have every type of music you could think about but the concept is this idea of collaboration that's what symphony is right each person even from like a you know sort of an everyday life you know thing it's like we're all sort of our individual players but as as when we come together we are this beautiful symphony of people and a community and and of dancers so for me it's
Starting point is 00:31:50 it's everything it's not just like i'm gonna go watch the sim it's it's every type of music every style of dance but then also this idea and this concept of just like unity and bringing ourselves together as like a beautiful symphony so symphony podcast we are i'm honestly just more i'm tired thinking of you doing this show over me too i'm exhausted i'm exhausted no like it's gonna be wild and i'll tell you what i've also done is we've uh i've decided to go on tour while i'm doing dancing with the stars oh my god so so we'll be i'll be going back and forth um on the road no so that's gonna be that's gonna be uh that's gonna be crazy wow but here's the thing you mentioned radio city just now you know the spring show so that show i did 13 shows a
Starting point is 00:32:41 week which that's not normal people so we did three shows a day sometimes and then and i was also doing dancing with the stars and so so and and and as a pro so i was a pro not even just sitting there judging being sitting in the chair so i'm doing three shows a day sometimes right being rained on like every show it's like you're seeing the rain it's raining on us the whole thing and crazy stuff and then in between shows teaching my partner and then on a sunday after we did three shows on a sunday red eye land monday morning do the show live with my partner who i've been teaching in between shows oh my god and then red eye back to press red eye back monday night so for me after doing that you're fine run i'm like i could do anything like literally it was crazy so
Starting point is 00:33:28 um it'll be good it'll be great how do you keep yourself together how do you stay energized like what like how do your joints still work yeah that's mind-blowing lots of for me supplements you know just certain things that kind of keep my body like you know malleable i guess you could say um and lots of rituals and routines like you know ice baths hot tubs masseuses you know because i was you know i'm 30 i'll be 38 in may so um as a dancer like that's your geriatric baby that's that's also yeah but that also motivates me that also motivates me a lot because i guess you know we've all we've been told that right our whole lives like oh dancer's career is like from here to here and and i was kind of like wait what do you i have so much energy are you kidding
Starting point is 00:34:13 me like i have so much more going like so i kind of like i like that kind of drives me of just sort of taking care of myself and my health and all these different things and i've changed a few of my habits in the past five years and i feel like it's like you know um stretched out my longevity a little bit even longer so um i feel i feel great i feel amazing i don't um i want to ask you something um are you annoyed or excited i know you're gonna say you're excited that julianne is now hosting dancing with the stars like she's your sister and you guys do everything together and it's very lovely but are you annoyed a little bit that it's like it's the derrick and julianne show again i had one thing that was my paper yeah yeah you know i just i'm sick of it i'm just sick
Starting point is 00:35:01 of it i just just just disgusting she's gonna have such good outfits and such good hair and it's like all of a sudden no one's looking at you again babe no i'm actually really stoked about it i think it's it's honestly it just makes sense it's perfect it just it makes perfect sense and i will say too tyra was so gracious in um you know she sent a beautiful message to julianne and and by the way she was she sent me emails almost after every show just beautiful emails and and so i know she kind of got like a bit of a a rap i guess from like certain fans on the show but but just from behind the scenes she was always so gracious and so kind so um so yeah but i'm very very excited about jules and her and alfonso i mean the two the two of them together i mean
Starting point is 00:35:50 it's gonna be it's gonna be a lot of fun they're gonna have a lot of fun with it and um it makes sense it makes sense so i'm excited about it i'm really excited about it but also really annoyed come on jules does it ever get old people comedians making jokes that you guys sleep together do people make that joke i was gonna say i was like i feel like when you guys is it just you back no no no no no i feel like you're right over there comedians i feel like when you guys came on the scene because it's not i mean when is the last time we've seen a brother dancer duo where you're both beautiful people who dance like angels
Starting point is 00:36:32 and sing and you know what i mean it's like it's been donnie and marie it's been that long yeah it's like but i feel like the common thing was like you know there was chemistry i don't think that it was a common thing becca's telling her deepest darkest right now by the way but i'll touch on that a little bit because i because i will say this i will say this when we go on tour and we would have like meet and greets and people would ask us and they say like hey do you guys like you know um like we get along right we just we get along and we're siblings and people are like that's so weird yeah it is weird how you guys are brothers and you guys get along that's just a weird thing something must be afoot you know yes um okay you're right
Starting point is 00:37:12 you're right no right right so so so i guess for me i guess you know knowing our understanding our backstory of like of like you know i was 12 years old she was nine years old we moved to london with our coaches so there was very much this like like team sort of like you know well we're we're like we gotta take care of each other you know what i'm saying so um so there definitely was that i mean and here's what's funny actually as we've gotten older we're we're so much more of like like siblings like we actually kind of bicker more as like adults than we did as kids or as like teenagers um but uh but no to answer your question no it's not because it's it's just it's weird i mean it must be disturbing for that person to feel or think that way
Starting point is 00:37:54 no it's not like a genuine i'm like i'm so sorry for that person who has to hold that in their brain okay when becca i'm gonna get you out of this with a commercial break i don't feel bad about it i'm gonna it's it's first of all you spoke you spoke what you spoke with some people america wanted to know they wanted to know well listen if people aren't talking about you you're not doing anything you're doing something wrong right or if they're talking about you you're doing something right so it was you know it had to be said all right when we come back hollywood heartbreak and some other stuff angie's list is now angie and i'm so glad that they are partners with us on this podcast because y'all, you need Angie and I need Angie and they've made

Starting point is 00:40:50 Derek I feel like you are one of those guys and I know this is not true which is why I'm bringing this up but you're like you're like a golden child like you're so talented you're good looking you win the Emmys you you have not not worked yet in your Hollywood career like you're always working something's always going on and so we have this section of the podcast called Hollywood Heartbreak which is like the thing that you wanted that you did not get did you audition and you were supposed to play the role leo dicaprio played in titanic or like what is the thing has there been something where you really wanted something and you didn't get it or something didn't go your way because it feels like it always goes your way i mean just from a dance with us let's just go
Starting point is 00:41:36 dance from the start let's just go there for a second okay um because that's an easy one to say uh sean the sean johnson season the all-star season uh became second and i was like and i looked back at that season i was like man that was such a solid seat i felt so good about that season it was such a good one um and i was really bitter about it because i remember carianna in the final being like how dare you derek you know um this was the wrong routine to choose for so i really felt responsible for it um so that that one hurt but but i will say following that i won that you know with my partners two seasons in a row after that one because i was so like i was so like oh i was so um you know motivated i guess you could say yeah um but and joke you
Starting point is 00:42:22 know we mentioned about julianne earlier um my dance with the stars was kind of funny it was that so i i did the show i did the um the musical footloose in london for you know a year so i did like over 100 and something shows as the lead role as ran mccormick you know in the west end and um dean pitchford the writer uh who wrote the original screen you know movie and screenplay and everything he was a big fan he was always they were about to do a remake of footloose and and dean pitchford told you know the the producers hey derrick huff is your guy he is he's like trust me he's he's the one but this is i literally had not been um i think i just moved into la like for two months i was only here for two months and i met with the
Starting point is 00:43:07 producers and they're like we don't know who you are i'm sorry like you're kind of a nobody like they didn't say that but that was kind of the idea um but they're like but there's that your sister she's on that dancing with star show she seems she's having like a moment right now and um and so they uh so she obviously auditioned and stuff like that and she actually she did the remake she she got the lead role as ariel um so that which is by the way again like fine but i remember at the time being like dang it like that was that's my that's my role man that was my thing um but no but it honestly was just uh i just find it fun it was just like a fun story because that's a perfect example though because it feels like you get everything so i'm kind of
Starting point is 00:43:52 like you know it's not that it's nice to hear that you didn't get it but it's like i don't get a lot of things trust me trust me but here's here's the thing this is what i'll say at least the past you know a couple years for sure um is i just i don't really go for things really i just i try to just make things like i just you know what i mean like even yesterday the reason why my voice is a little hoarse right now is i i directed this video yesterday um for like 14 hours and and we're in the dust and powder and my i'm like inhaling all this stuff but um but those are things the projects i'll just set a date of like okay this is a day i booked the studio booked the film crew now i gotta come up with a project and so i kind of forced myself to sort of
Starting point is 00:44:34 stay creative and stay doing and keep doing things and then from those things you know other opportunities arise um but it seems like i'm always doing stuff because i i really feel like i'm constantly trying to create those opportunities instead of wait for them but uh that's what we do at lady gang too i feel like you and kelty are the same person yeah i'm like i'm not gonna wait around for someone to hire me because no one's gonna hire me so i'll just make my own tour and my own book and my own podcast and my own show exactly and that's why you're always working you know what i mean by the way how you guys how long lady gang you guys were like there at the beginning yeah seven years we're old what's up no no but i feel like i feel
Starting point is 00:45:11 like you know and you guys were like you know i remember oh geez and you know starting starting when the start in the beginning so i think it's awesome still going strong thank you you just really are so amazing and we love you so much tickets for symphony of dancer on sale now at derrickhuff.com.
